Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing. How many men carry a suit or armor? It signals to the world that you not to be played with. And just because you have the capability that does not have. mean that you need to. Starting point is 00:02:06 get your podcast. I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on, a Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman. Multimillion dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud. But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know. Is somebody coming? after me. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:02:38 Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live in Bowling Green, Kentucky at the grand opening of the Draft King's Sports Book at the Mint in Bowling Green. We already see a yellow suit this morning.
Starting point is 00:02:53 That's how you know things are big. And you can give us a shout on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line. Look at that suit. 859-200. 80 2287. A Vision auto glass text machine is 7772-745254 in this edition sponsored by the T.J. Smith, all of us. We call T.J. He'll make them pay. Ryan Lemon, how about this crowd this morning here in Bowling Green? Look at how you know. Listen, look at this. How about Bowling Green? I mean, it's been a long time that we've been here and boy, they showed up waiting for us when we pulled up the parking lot. So thank you so much everybody. This is awesome. On a Thursday.
Starting point is 00:03:26 Thursday morning. Great crowd on a Thursday. I was trying to think. When's the last time we've done a live show in Bowling Green? Have we done one since COVID? No, no. Cheney's Dairy Barn. Oh, wow, that was a long time ago. Yeah, I mean, I think it's been. I think it's probably been that long, at least since we've done it.
Starting point is 00:03:45 Yeah, that was our last show. And Bowling Green was Cheney's Dairy Barn. We came to the old Stone Golf Course a couple of times, but that was like way back in our early days. Yeah, so it's great to see everybody in the home of the hilltoppers this morning. This is the, we are here because this is the grand opening of the new Draft King's Sportsbook here at the Mint. The Mint is next to, what's the ball? Is that Greenwood Mall? Is that the name of the mall?
Starting point is 00:04:09 Yeah. And nice room in here. Drew got golf simulators over there. Top golf swing suites, they call them. They are going to at noon, eastern, 11th Central have the ceremonial first bet. I got booted from it, Shannon, from the mayor pro tem. I don't know what. even know there was a mayor pro tem but i guess it's the vice mayor is going to give the first
Starting point is 00:04:32 bet so i'll give the second one and i'm still trying to figure out what i'm going to do that's okay i think you know you mentioned yesterday maybe dabbling a little bit with kutucky and lulville that feels like a good bet to make so i think maybe that's the one i really feel comfortable about i don't i don't necessarily feel fear uh feel comfortable picking kutucky to win the national championship no i don't necessarily feel comfortable picking them to even cover saturday Yeah. But I still think we're going to beat Louisville, no matter what. Yeah, I mean, like, at the end of the day, Drew, it's still Louisville, we still own them, we'll beat it.
Starting point is 00:05:03 Yeah, if you can't get a line on that yet, just take Ryan Liman's punt bet that he loves doing so much. That'd be a fun ceremonial first bet here at the Mint. Yeah, so you guys actually came down last night. You stayed at the Kentucky Downs, Ryan, at the Mint there. How was that? It was awesome. I mean, they've got a mint just 25 minutes down the road. That is incredible.
Starting point is 00:05:24 new hotel down there. But before we did that, Matt, Billy drove us through Western's campus, kind of nostalgic. He was so cute. Like, hey, this is where I used to go to school. Hey, this is where I used to date this girl. Hey, this is where I used to live. Those were not the words you used with me when you were telling that story. I cleaned it up a little bit for you.
Starting point is 00:05:41 But he was very cute going a little tour through campus, his old stomping grounds. We went to Heliums, the big bar there last night and hung out. How was it? Was it as awesome as he said it was? Well, you know, maybe Wednesday night's not the best night to go to Hilliams. Hilligans, right? Hillians. Helians is not the same thing, I don't think.
Starting point is 00:06:00 It went from a 30-minute trip to like a two-hour trip, though, I heard. So something must have been fun. Yeah, we're waiting for you. Yeah. Well, Darrell over here kept buying us, you know, beverages, so we didn't want to... That's nice of you, Darrell. Yeah. Appreciate that.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Well, we... I'm glad to be here in Bowling Green. We've talked. Bowling Green's been a topic of conversation a lot on the show. First of all, more restaurants per capita than any city in America, which drew, I think, is a pretty amazing statistic for a place. What do you think? Like 75,000 people live here, something like that?
Starting point is 00:06:31 When school's not in session, probably 75? Nobody seems to know how, well, we'll ask the mayor when she gets here. But, you know, a lot of restaurant choices are endless. Oh, I believe it, this strip right here, it's like a tour of like a fast food museum. There's one on top of each other. I certainly believe it. In this crowd here, I know we've been talking about a ZIPA, I feel like we are the Exhibit Clinic here.
Starting point is 00:06:54 with this crowd we have showing up today. I don't know what that means. I mean, I feel like we're serving a Zipik here. There's somebody in Bowling Green. Okay. I was like, I have no idea what you're talking about there. I did see a sign for OZimpic already when I came in here. Everywhere.
Starting point is 00:07:09 It was like. No way. Yeah, right on what is it, Scottsville Road? Is that right? Yeah. Really? Yeah. Like an advertisement?
Starting point is 00:07:16 No, it's like one of those little things he planted in the ground like a political sign. But it was so, well, we are glad to be here at a massive crowd. We appreciate it. The cats are going to be a 24-point underdog Saturday against Georgia. So I decided, Ryan, I gave everybody that I know around UK football a little space for the last few days. Maybe a good call. Yeah, I mean, I just felt like when you have a game like that, the only thing worse than being a part of it is probably having to talk about it, right?
Starting point is 00:07:50 So I sort of gave everybody some space. and then last night had to drive from Lexington to Louisville, so called some folks, and I just kind of said, what's the mood like around the facility? And I will tell you, there's a handful of people, there's a handful of people I talk to around the football program that I know are going to just give me the happy view.
Starting point is 00:08:10 And then there's a handful that will give me, like, the real view. And yesterday, they pretty much all had the same mindset, which was, we don't really know what happened Saturday. It just kind of got away from us. And they all pointed to two or three plays where they felt like after they happened, it just kind of was a different vibe. It's the same ones, Shannon, we picked it, talked about. It was the decision to go for it on fourth down.
Starting point is 00:08:40 But still, it's 10 to 6 after that. I think maybe the morale plays that maybe hurt the team that we didn't really talk a ton about was do you remember the two plays back to back where we strip sack them, but then don't recover the fumble? Yep, yeah. Like it was two straight plays. On first down, we strip sack them. They don't, they fumble, we don't get it.
Starting point is 00:09:04 Second, when we strip sack them, and number 42, whoever that is, it's like ready to bounce in his hands, and he had a run for a touchdown, and we were to take in the lead. He misses it. They get it. And then on third and 18, they complete a pass. And two different people involved with the program yesterday told me the sideline changed at that moment. That when they got that first down after the two they didn't, there was like a,
Starting point is 00:09:31 we should be leading and now they get a first down. And they thought like what was very disappointing to them is all of a sudden just the air went out of it. And I think Ryan, what was interesting to me is they sort of pride themselves in the last few years on like bouncing back, bouncing back. But that string of plays, somebody probably should go back and look at them defensively. First down, strip sack, don't get the ball. Second down, strip sack, don't get the ball. And a guy misses a chance to run it back. Third play, third and 18 conversion. Ryan, in talking the folks around the team, that was kind of when they felt like the team maybe just kind of gave up. That has to be what Stoves was talking about them when he said he was so unhappy
Starting point is 00:10:14 that they didn't respond. They didn't punch back. And they seemed like, like you said, just didn't kind of lost the wind in their sales a little bit. That has to be the scenario. Because it was 10 to 6 right there. It was 10 to 6. And again, I'm not making excuse. We lost 31 to 6, Drew, but it's 10 to 6. And if if they, let's just say they run it back and we're up 13.10.
Starting point is 00:10:34 We probably win the game. But what really was disappointing to the staff is then on 3rd and 18, you can still stop them. Yeah. And they didn't. And then you end up, they score, I think, the next play. Yeah, I understand those are all backbreaking plays. one of those fumbles. I feel like South Carolina recovered it and got positive yards.
Starting point is 00:10:52 Yeah, they did, I think. I think you're right. Those are wild, but a veteran team, you still have to bounce back for stuff like that, and it still doesn't explain how bad the offensive line and offense looked. I agree that those probably changed the tone on the sideline. Those were huge backbreakers. That doesn't answer every problem. I think
Starting point is 00:11:08 fans are concerned about moving forward. There was a lot of frustrations that just built up and mounted on top of each other. I mean, also go back to when they had the ball and they had, was it two or three offensive of holding calls. Yeah, at that point, I thought the game was already over, but you're right. Yeah, I mean, but that just, you know, just add it to it to the frustration on Saturday.
Starting point is 00:11:25 So I sort of asked him, okay, what should I expect Saturday? You know, remember, because last year we lost these guys 51 to 6. Like last year was not, not a pretty game. And then pony up was the, what came up in the post game. And we'll find out Saturday, right? but the belief was this group wants to go and show that Saturday wasn't real. And the expectation I heard was they actually expect to play really well. Now, nobody would tell me even privately rhyme, we're going to win.
Starting point is 00:12:00 Although I think, you know, obviously they feel that way or hope to. But I do think I'm going to go on record as saying, I think we have a better performance and I think we cover Saturday. Now, I still think we'd probably lose by 17, but I actually think we will feel a little bit better. about the team Saturday than we do not right now I hope that's right you know okay you didn't say you hope I hope you know really before last year Kentucky had really kind of closed the gap with Georgia remember the game we went down there with
Starting point is 00:12:31 11 we all went down there that was a really competitive game into the third quarter we played them well at home yeah the last four games against Georgia at home have all been like 10 to 14 points which again I'm not saying that's a moral victory but that's been the best program in the country and except for last year we've actually played in pretty close Kirby Smart said before the game last year you could make an argument this team has played us consistently better than anyone but Alabama that didn't happen last year though yeah take out last year's game but before that and I think a lot of these guys on this team still you know still had that mentality like hey Georgia is not like this dominant team that they used to be with us I think the defense is going to step it up because they've held a lot of these guys have got the experience
Starting point is 00:13:15 they've held Georgia to I think 16 and 14 points in Lexington the last two. They have, yes. But offensively, that line, I mean, the injury report came out yesterday. You've got Jaggers doubtful. There wasn't already much depth behind him. You have Mincey that I don't believe practice this week. I believe it said probable on him. But the line we're already worried about going against Georgia.
Starting point is 00:13:35 It looks like they're going to have some pieces that didn't expect to be playing this early in their career. I was asking Drew this last night. I'll ask you this, Matt. What do you think the scenario is this game on Saturday where we're in the fourth quarter and it's a one-score game. Like, is there any, like, what is the scenario? There's a scenario. I mean, I think to be in a one-score game with Georgia,
Starting point is 00:13:54 first of all, they're going to have to have a game plan that gets the ball out of the quarterback's hand quick. Because I don't think there's, I'm giving up on the offensive line protecting against the team like Georgia. Now, again, I was talking to the stat, and they said, look, South Carolina will be the second or third best defensive line we play all year.
Starting point is 00:14:14 The only ones that are in competition are Georgia and Texas. So I don't expect it to be significantly worse than last game, but it can't even be close to last game or we get run off the field. So the scenario is they create a game playing, get the ball out of Brock's hands when he passes. I think you're going to have to have a special teams or defensive touchdown. You're going to have to have something like that. And then maybe you go in and it's 2017 or 17, 14.
Starting point is 00:14:44 in the fourth quarter. And that's, to me, the only scenario, Drew, where I can see it. We're not going to win a shootout against them. No, no. So, like, if, you know, we've got to find a way for the defense to play well and us, we're going to have to run the ball. We actually ran the ball decently well for a while in that game on Saturday. Yeah, Demi was one of the bright spots, even though the offense wasn't doing much.
Starting point is 00:15:04 We don't have Chip back. He was listed as out. So Chip's out. And then the freshman Patterson's out. So we're down to two running backs. It's all on Sumo, basically. It's all going to be on Sumo. Demi, Sumo, and the Wilcox kid.
Starting point is 00:15:17 I wonder if Wimson may get a lot of more touches, have him on the field just because he's proving he can be a good runner. They're going to have to do so. There's going to be some freshmen trying to bull to Georgia, which that doesn't sound like a good recipe. To answer Shannon's question about how it's close, like I said, it was 16 and 14 points the last two times they were here. If the defense can just keep them out of the end zone,
Starting point is 00:15:35 I think that's the only hope. That's a big ask. What's the crowd percentage going to be Kentucky versus Georgia? I've seen a lot of tickets for sale. Let me ask you a question. How many of you all have season tickets or go to a lot of Kentucky football games? Raise your hand. All right.
Starting point is 00:15:51 Six. Seven. How many of you are going this Saturday? Four. All right. So, I don't know. I think there's going to be a lot of Georgia fans there. I do.
Starting point is 00:16:03 But you know what? At this point, they got to prove something to the fans, I think, to get them back. Because Saturday I'll have a lot of people. I worry about the next Saturday. That next Saturday when they play Ohio, I don't know. But I would just say to the fans, and I've got friends who have season tickets, and they're saying the same thing. I'm selling my tickets this week.
Starting point is 00:16:24 But who you sell them to, by the way? Somebody, I'm sure. I saw all these people on Facebook. I'll sell my season tickets for $300. Who you think's buying them, honestly? But if you buy season tickets, don't you buy season tickets to see these teams come in to Krogerfield? Wouldn't you want to be there just in case? Yeah, I would go to this game.
Starting point is 00:16:41 Yeah. I think it's going to be harder to convince people to go next week. 8-9-2-8-0. 2287. We are here at the Mint and Bowling Green. Beautiful little beautiful sports book for Draft Kings. We'll take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking. Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we
Starting point is 00:18:08 don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth,
Starting point is 00:18:24 or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose
Starting point is 00:18:40 on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free, iHeartRadio app search learn the hard way and listen now. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back.
Starting point is 00:19:04 Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levan this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me?
Starting point is 00:19:33 Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer them? On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness,
Starting point is 00:19:57 professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WNBA standout, Kate Martin, and rising hockey star, Laila Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
Starting point is 00:20:14 It's hard to be in spaces. that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel on. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladecki. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world.
Starting point is 00:20:38 Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up. even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHart Women's Sports.
Starting point is 00:20:57 Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Starting point is 00:21:20 Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Come back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at the Mint Gaming Hall in Bowling Green. Couple open lines, 859-280-2287. I'd like to know, do you all have any confidence that the game Saturday will be better than the game we had last Saturday? But before we do that, we try to do this everywhere we go. We're in Bowling Green. Ryan is the man who knows where everybody's from.
Starting point is 00:21:52 So without including Western Kentucky athletes, WKU athletes, give me some famous athletes from Bowling Green, Warren County. Well, Daryl and I were talking about this guy last night. Corey Hart, baseball player, played like 13 years in the big leagues, made the All-Star game a couple times. He's probably the most recent superstar, I think, to come out of Bowling Green. Hasn't Kentucky had a lot of football? all players that went to Warren County, right?
Starting point is 00:22:17 Jansen Dunn is on the team right now. He played down here at South Warren. But I know there's more, right? Vito Tisdale. Vito Tisdale was there, yeah. Cisco Bryant, Bowling Green guy. The Dingles? The Dingles, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:29 Adrian who? Adrian Middleton, yeah, that's right. That's a lot of Kentucky guys. What about a, is there a basketball guy? What was the kid from? George Fent. George Fant. Oh, George Fant's a great one.
Starting point is 00:22:41 Yeah. Played the NFL for quite some time. Yeah. He's a bowling green guy. Yeah, he's, but who's the, there was a basketball player that was really good from here. Rex Chapman. Josh Carrier. Josh Carrier, I forgot about Josh.
Starting point is 00:22:54 I did too. Didn't miss in practice, I'll tell you that. Well, during the break, you can give us some more. Who do you think is the most famous WKU athlete of all time? Probably Devin Key. Football player, plays for Denver Bronco. I'd say probably Devin Key. When they were good at basketball, who would, like in the 70s when they were really good.
Starting point is 00:23:11 Jim McDaniels. Jim McDaniels. Yeah. Don't forget Tyrod. with the big shot. Ty Rogers. Patrick Sparks. When Patrick Sparks was here.
Starting point is 00:23:18 Actually, I had somebody tell me the last time they had been to Hilligans, Patrick Sparks tripped them. That was the last time. I'm surprised he wasn't there last night. Oh, wait a minute. The big dude that played with him, Chris Marcus was a really good play. That's a good pool. People forget how good he was.
Starting point is 00:23:33 Yes, he was. He was like a preseason All-American. I think he got hurt maybe that year. So a lot of non-athletes, Duncan Heinz, the cash cab guy. The Carpenter dude? John Carpenter from Halloween. Nappy roots. Nappy roots.
Starting point is 00:23:50 The elephant? Yeah. Taste the elephant. Another good one. Bolling Green a little bit. Bowling Green producing all the celebrities. 859-28027. One person writes on the text machine, which is 772-745254.
Starting point is 00:24:04 Matt, my mom listens to you every day. We talk about it on the weekends. Usually talk about what you've said. I appreciate you being away for me to interact with my mom. But I could tell she was mad at you yesterday because she called me in the middle of the week to say, did you hear Matt say that people can't work well remotely at home? It made my mom really mad. You should apologize to her. I apologize to your mom.
Starting point is 00:24:33 It was interesting because I assumed the most hateful text messages I would get were for me saying that Harris won the debate. Nope. It was people saying about. the remote work. Shannon? You and I were on the same side on this. That's right. But there's a lot of people that want to be able to work remotely and did not like you and I saying that they couldn't be as efficient working remote. Part of me is just being spiteful to the fact that I had to go in during COVID and work at the location. You did. You had to do it when literally no one was going anywhere. Yeah, everybody else got to stay home. I had to get up and go to work every day. So I'm like,
Starting point is 00:25:13 come on, I think everybody should have to go to work like me. So, yeah, that you're right, though. People have strong opinions about that. You did hit a nerve on that one, for sure. And it seems like, oddly, the nerve is with younger people. Yeah. It feels like to me, I think a lot of older folks are like, probably like I was. Well, we have to go in.
Starting point is 00:25:32 But the younger people were the ones who, now I can see why companies have a hard time telling them to go back to work, Drew, because if bosses got anything like I got yesterday, people get people got angry about it which is which was really eye opening to me they don't want you messing that up people like to pop in at work from the beach or the brewery or wherever they want to just work remotely wherever they want to be they say working from home but the best part is just being wherever you want to be to work that's true yeah you don't have to you're not wet it to uh having to go in you can just work from bed if you want to you don't have to get out of bed so i i you know i am sorry to your mom i will say right it doesn't truly change my opinion although i will note it's probably worth noting And there's a caveat that I'm sure there are people who can work just as officially or maybe even better.
Starting point is 00:26:18 But on average, I'll keep my opinion. But I will also note maybe I won't bring it up again for a while to give everybody a chance to calm down. So where do you think, where are we in 10 years from now? Are more people working from home or are they going away from that in 10 years? The robots are working from home. Yeah. I think the way company, I think people who got used to it during COVID are going to be allowed to do it a lot. But I think what you're going to see and what I've read is that companies,
Starting point is 00:26:43 with new hires are saying you got to come in so that they set the expectation of coming in and then, you know, so that they don't have this issue. But there are companies who like it because they don't have to pay for so much office space, right? So like they don't have to rent as much office space now because people are working from home. So what happened to all those office spaces in like the big cities? You're empty. Or in New York, a lot of them being turned into apartments. A lot of the office spaces are being renovated and turned into like large apartment. But a lot of are empty. I mean, you look at I heart. I mean, even we downsized buildings. We were in that huge
Starting point is 00:27:17 building in Louisville, Matt, and now we're in, you know, a smaller building. When I started, we were in a massive building out there next to the milk plant in Louisville, and now we're in a very small space at 4th Street, so things changed a lot. Who's next? Eric is up next. Eric,
Starting point is 00:27:33 go ahead, Eric. Hey, guys, just a couple. It is amazing how, it is amazing how the moment they get on, Shannon, the phone stops working, but go ahead. I'm sorry you guys were talking yeah let me sorry it sir were you on Bluetooth I was and I okay that's sorry do not call on Bluetooth I'm going to post that with Mario on all the graphics he does for the show do not call on Bluetooth but go ahead
Starting point is 00:28:07 okay so yesterday you guys were talking about some national events that really stick with people and and we just thought it was funny because my wife's probably around the the same age as you. The challenger was number one for her and she always talks about it, even still to this day, which we kind of tease her about. So it's just kind of interesting. Because we were all home from school. That's another thing. We were all home from school. If you're in Kentucky, there was snow that day. You all may remember. So we were all home from school and we were watching it. And I remember Larry said to me, do not watch soap operas while we're gone, not that I was going to. And then all of a sudden I had to watch people.
Starting point is 00:28:45 will explode and I think that was probably worse than the soap operas, but go ahead. Yeah. Yeah. So, and then on the football team, I think now that NIL has kind of settled in a little bit, I think they really need to make a huge effort to build the offense from the inside out and really go after that offensive line. Because we've seen in the past that they have a really good offensive line, we don't even need a quarterback.
Starting point is 00:29:09 So I think if they concentrate a little bit more on that, and maybe they are and they're just not getting the players they're trying to get. Whether it's Marksuits or somebody else, I just really think it'll behoo UK to build an offensive. Well, you're not the only one that thinks that. You're not the only one. I mean, there are people who think, I think somebody called maybe on the postgame show that we spent too much money on skill players and not enough money on offensive line. We'll see what they do in the future.
Starting point is 00:29:33 We'll take a break and be right back here at the Mint in Bowling Green. This is KSR. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Rick, you're playing the long instrumental version of this intro. This is a little Bon Jovi. Well, first of all, let it play in the background. Well, actually, we don't do it because then they can't put it on the podcast.
Starting point is 00:29:54 You can go ahead and stop it. This is Bon Jovi. Two things before I get to Bon Jovi. Number one, the Bowling Green Fire Department came and gave us patches. So big shout out to the Bowling Green Fire Department. Yes, absolutely. Thank you very much for that. We are here at the Draft King's new draft king's sports book at the Mint in Bowling Green.
Starting point is 00:30:15 Did you hear the story, Ryan, about? John Bon Jovi, what he did yesterday. No, I don't know this. Bon Jovi was filming a music video in Nashville right off Broadway. They were filming it, and he, I guess, there was a woman that was on the bridge there thinking about, like, taking her life. She was, like, about to jump off the bridge. Somebody tells Bon Jovi, and Bon Jovi walks to the bridge and talks her off the bridge.
Starting point is 00:30:43 How awesome is that? And saves her life. Yes, absolutely. Wow. Which you have to say, she probably didn't see that coming, Shane. She probably did not think Bon Jovi was going to show up. But he apparently did it. There's, and like he didn't make a deal about it.
Starting point is 00:31:00 This happened like two days ago. And there was surveillance video that the police released yesterday just to say, hey, we want to give him credit for this. He did this and he did it on his own and that's kind of neat. Can't imagine being in that situation and you look over Bon Jovi? Is that you? You would think it was like a sign from God. You would.
Starting point is 00:31:22 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, if you just. God, if you don't want me to jump, bring Bon Jovi right now. He walks around the corner. And then he walks up. Yeah. What if. Yeah, you're like, Lord, send me a sign.
Starting point is 00:31:33 And then here comes Bon Jovi. Like, then at that point you go, you know what? So a very cool gesture, and I think it's even more cool that he didn't say anything about it. That, like, it was the Nashville police that put it out. I think Drew that makes it even more impressed. Yeah, I mean, she was standing on the other side of the rail very close to, you know, making that move. And for him to be there, I'm still giggling at the thought of send me a sign. Like he's up there in the lead singer of you two or something.
Starting point is 00:31:59 Yeah. Such a random story. He had to be careful not to go sing and be like, you're halfway there. You have to like, you're to think of a different song. See, you can make a joke just because she survived. So it's good. And so anyway, I thought that was actually very cool. Some more athletes we didn't mention Damien Fishback, Bowling Green Athlete.
Starting point is 00:32:21 Mr. Basketball. Lonnell DeWalt. Oh, that's a good one. Lonnell DeWalt, who could jump and block. If we're going to mention Western Kentucky sports, you can't go without mentioning another Kentucky and Clem Haskins from Taylor County. Legendary. Did he play here too?
Starting point is 00:32:37 I know he coached here. He played and coached here, so you got to mention him. And his daughter, Clement Haskins, at the time, was one of the best female players to ever play the game. Her name is Clement. Yeah, Clement. I like that. I have a daughter, Mattette. Courtney Lee played in the NBA for a long time. He's a Western Kentucky Hilltoper. Clement. Clemette. One person writes, Matt, if we were to beat Georgia, is it the biggest upset in UK football history? And if not, what is? And then what's our biggest UK basketball upset in history where we did it. So the football one is probably LSU, but I would argue,
Starting point is 00:33:21 because they ended up winning the national championship that year. So am I right about that? Yeah. So that is, that's our biggest. Would the Georgia one drew if we did it Saturday be even bigger? That Kentucky team was at least good. I mean, that Kentucky team, you know, we beat, we beat Louisville a couple weeks before that. We played Florida the next week, had game day, the only time we've ever had game day. I think this would be a bigger upset than that if we won. Part of it is this team is supposed to be better than they were a week ago. So if you ask me before the South Carolina game, I wouldn't say, no, it's not a bigger
Starting point is 00:33:57 upset at all. But they were so bad against South Carolina, it's having a hard time figuring out what Kentucky is. If they're as close to as bad as they were last Saturday, then, yeah, I think it would be a bigger upset. They've only lost to one team in four years, Shannon. Yeah. And that's Alabama.
Starting point is 00:34:10 They've won 41 straight regular season. 41 straight regular games in the last four seasons, they've only lost out. It's the only team that's beat them in four seasons. They beat them twice. I would argue, Shannon, this would be bigger if you did it. Based on what we saw last week and if Georgia were to go ahead and end up winning the national championship, I think that would be the biggest win in history. So, Ryan, what is our biggest upset basketball win where we were the ones doing the upset?
Starting point is 00:34:37 I have an answer, but I want to hear what you think. I need to think about it a little bit. I couldn't come up with one immediately. I'm going to say, and this is before my time, so some of you older folks are going to have to let me know if you agree. I'm going to say Indiana in 76. 75. 75.
Starting point is 00:34:55 Because they were undefeated, right? And then they went undefeated in 76. The next year. So, I mean, they could have had back-to-back undefeated years if we didn't beat them. Do you like that answer? That may be the right answer. That's a good call right there. Another one, you know, I can't think Drew of a whole lot of other ones.
Starting point is 00:35:16 Like in the tournament, if we had beaten Duke in 92, I think that would have been number one, even though we were the two seed and they were the one seed, but they were the defending national champions, but we didn't win. Kentucky's been other team's biggest win of their history, you know, but like for Kentucky to. For us as an upset, let's take. How about when they beat Shaq and Stanley Jack, That's a good one.
Starting point is 00:35:41 That's a regular season game. That's a really good one beating them. Basically all the wins they got that year in 1990, or I think it is. You got one? The favorites in 99% of their games. I don't remember this, but like what kind of underdog were they in 98 against Duke? I know they were down a lot in the game. It made a comeback, but before the game, how big of an upset.
Starting point is 00:36:03 If you're talking about the biggest win we've had from a seating perspective, I can tell you our biggest win from a seating perspective. Can anybody think of it? Wichita State. When we were an eight and we beat Wichita State, they were a one. We're almost never an eight or lower. So that would have been, but like it doesn't feel like it, Shannon, because it's Wichita State versus Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:36:29 Kentucky's that brand name and you almost expect it, you know, regardless of what the seating is, that you're going to beat Wichita State. But that's probably the one. But if you're talking. Our biggest win probably was, Wichita State in 2014 was probably the big. From a points bet spread perspective, when they won in Knoxville, which is C.J. Frederick a few years ago, they're like a 13-point underdog. Kentucky's very rarely a 13-point underdog.
Starting point is 00:36:53 Another one of those is when we beat Knoxville, won in Knoxville, what was it, the COVID year? And we only won like nine games, but yet we won in Knoxville against the good Tennessee team. That might have been one, too. Who's up next? Trevor is up next. Trevor, go ahead, Trevor. How are you doing, Matt? Good, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:37:16 I have season tickets, and I'm going to be there Saturday, mainly because I spent money on them and I have nothing better to do. But, you know what? I have to tell you, I don't think that's a bad reason. Like, what else are you going to do Saturday? You know, the number one team in the country is coming to town. Like, why wouldn't you go? I'm kind of with you.
Starting point is 00:37:39 It's like buying a lawnmower and then having a company mow your yard. Like, what's the point? That's interesting. I like that you're playing going to the game as mowing the yard, but that's all right. Well, for some people, they view it as a chore now because we're not good. So some people probably think about it that way. Yeah, you might want to shut that door there or whatever, but go ahead. It would be the most Mark Stoops thing in the world if we could.
Starting point is 00:38:07 cover the spread. In my opinion. We lost the game we shouldn't have lost. Then we're going to play Georgia close and cover the spread. And that's what the Mark Stoops thing to do. And I appreciate the call the Mark Stoops thing to do would be Shannon for this game to be a one score game with 10 minutes to go. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:28 And have everybody go, well, wait a minute. Why did we lose last week? Like that would be, Stoops has had a lot of these games in his career where you give up and then all of a sudden they reel you back in a little bit. I do think there might be a little bit. They play Georgia as close as anybody in the SEC throughout the last few years. So I think that there's a good chance that that's going to happen. And why would fans be upset about that?
Starting point is 00:38:51 That's going to make you feel better, I think, moving forward. What's more likely to you, Ryan, 10-point win for Georgia or 35-point win for Georgia? I'm like you guys. As a matter of fact, I had a friend who said, I feel like betting Kentucky to cover a lot more confident than Kentucky not to cover last week in South Carolina. So I think if you're giving me one of those two scenarios, I think Kentucky keeps it closer and probably does cover this spread. See, we're talking ourselves into this.
Starting point is 00:39:17 We do this every week. Monday or past the best of Friday, we're going to beat them. Tomorrow a country boy, I'm definitely pissed to be Georgia tomorrow. Not yet. There is something to be sad. I feel like any time you write stoops off or his teams off, that's when they respond. In 2016, they lost to Southern Miss, lost the next week. I think 0 and 2, they go on to win eight games.
Starting point is 00:39:36 last year we were losing a little faith going in that Louisville game where they do they go to Louisville smack Louisville in the mouth Yeah, it's almost like when you're telling them they're out that's kind of when they surprise you when you're building them up talking about how good they are that's when they let you down That's I think that's a very very good point here's my prediction I I'm gonna pick them to cover tomorrow, but I don't I'm not confident on it But I think the game where they're gonna surprise people's I think we're gonna go down there and come real close to beat an old miss. I really do I That's the game where I think that everybody will have written them off at that point. And that'll be the game where you'll go, wait a minute, do we have the ball with a chance to win this game? Like, that'll be the one to me that I think where they'll surprise me.
Starting point is 00:40:19 I don't know. I just think George is so good. I think Saturday's going to be on. But they got to keep it close for a reason that you hit on. The next week, if they get completely blown out on Saturday, the Ohio attendance for that game is going to be ugly. Apparently it's parents weekend. So that probably will be. That'll help. If you look historically, Parents Weekend is actually a pretty well-inted game, so maybe that'll help.

Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Back, it is Kentucky Sports Radio here at the Mint, Bowling Green, right next to Greenwood Mall, Draft King's Sportsbook. They also have top golf swing suites. I'll tell you, if I was living in Bowling Green, I would be standing over there a lot of the time. I bet that place is going to be very crowded.
Starting point is 00:45:55 They have the sports lounge. Look at all these televisions, watch the game. Very cool for the city of Bowling Green. A couple more people from Bowling Green. Ryan. Chief Justice, former of the Kentucky Supreme Court, John Minton, is from Bowling Green. He swore me in. I think did it to be a lawyer many, many years ago. Yeah. And then
Starting point is 00:46:15 Rand Paul. Rand Paul. And the guy that tackled Rand Paul. Yes, his neighbor. They're both from here. You're in Bowling Green. People fight about mulch now, Drew. You don't want to get your mulch on people's yard here in Bowling Green. I didn't even look at anyone's yards when I drove in. Didn't look any direction. I'm not getting in a fight. Even when you walked in, you were like, no. No part of the landscape. Completely straight ahead.
Starting point is 00:46:40 I was wrong about the biggest gap, Bob. I was wrong about the biggest gap in seated wins. I bet you didn't know this. Okay. In 1986, we were the 12 seed in the NCAA tournament and beat a four-seated Washington. Wow. I don't even remember that game. Anybody remember that game?
Starting point is 00:47:05 I don't. No, I don't remember that game at all. She remembers it. There you go. That is our last gap in seed win, Drew of all time for UK basketball. I don't know memory of that, but if the text machine says it,
Starting point is 00:47:16 we'll trust it. I've tried to remember, who did Kentucky beat before they beat Wichita State in that first round game? Kansas State. Kansas State. Because remember we didn't go,
Starting point is 00:47:24 because we, and then we went to the Wichita State game and we're there when we won. I remember you called all. 31 and 0 that year? Yeah. undefeated you called all of us like man I feel like we got to go just in case they win we need to get up our credentials for the next round for the Louisville game do you remember the
Starting point is 00:47:42 names of the uh Wichita state players Baker Baker Baker Baker Van Flea and then Cleanteley and then Cleanteley early was actually their best player was and he's the one that didn't even make the NBA which is kind of their coach's name what was that uh Greg Marshall he had a good I remember him good family that guy has uh did you see Shane and the story about your fellow namesake Shannon Sharp yesterday. Yeah, he had quite a day yesterday. I didn't know who we were going to talk about this or not. We're going to talk about it.
Starting point is 00:48:12 Yeah, be careful when you go on Instagram. So Shannon Sharp, apparently, according to him, had his phone, decided to throw it on the bed, and in throwing it on the bed, accidentally activated Instagram live. and then he proceeded early in the morning to have a loving time with a wonderful young woman. We don't know who it was. And it was all streamed on Instagram live. It's very primal. I did not watch it.
Starting point is 00:48:49 I guess Shannon apparently did. I did. I listened. We listened to the audio driving. We did. Driving down? I did too, driving down. That was my entertainment.
Starting point is 00:49:00 Hang on just saying it's not a podcast Hang on just saying I didn't know that Wait a minute you all listen to the audio drive like it was like I thought you buy the ride together did you buy the audio book? No, but the curiosity got the best of me and I see three videos Each of which are like two minutes long. So for six minutes of my drive down here. I was listening to Shannon Sharp do his business I felt like we needed to do some research and some show prep to get ready for this conversation Well, actually, I think all of you seem to be more are more prepared about this story than I am. Now I know how to get you all to actually prepare for the show.
Starting point is 00:49:37 Did you hear his statement after the fact, though? Yeah, he was not apologetic. It was awkward and like. Yeah, it was weird. It was too much information. He's like an event happened. Yeah. No one was harmed in the event.
Starting point is 00:49:50 He said I'm an athletic male. Yeah, he said he was. So anyway, you know, it happened. It doesn't happen. How do you accidentally? Go live. Well, why would you want to do that? There's several buttons you have to push through.
Starting point is 00:50:02 Yeah, and that's the thing. It doesn't. He says he claims he just threw his phone on the bed and it turned on. Drew, I don't believe that. Do you believe that? He threw something on the bed to turn down. But the phone, you need several buttons to actually get to live. It's like, are you sure?
Starting point is 00:50:19 What's the title? Publish. I don't know how you could accidentally go live. I will say, I've tried to go Instagram live, and it's hard. Sometimes I can't even get it to work. I have to call Mario. and say, how do I turn this thing on? This terrifies me, though.
Starting point is 00:50:32 Now if it's that easy for it to come on on accident. I don't think it's that easy. We'd had Instagram for a long time. This is the first time I've heard of this happy life. Okay, but let's just say he did it on purpose. Like, what's the end game here? Well, I mean, we're talking about him. I guess that's the end game.
Starting point is 00:50:45 And he gave you a podcast to listen to. I like that where you find yourself in that situation, you're going to call Mario to come home. Not in that exact situation. Okay. Who's up next? Shut up. Chester is up there. Chester.
Starting point is 00:50:57 Oh, wow. Chester, how are you, sir? Chester. Hey, Matt, you guys were talking. Yes, sir, can you hear me? Yes, go for it. Yes. You all were talking earlier in the show about working from home.
Starting point is 00:51:16 Well, a lot of people don't know about jobs that you can work from home. Okay, there's a lot of jobs that ain't possible. And let me tell you a job that isn't possible to work from home. That's to support the Kentucky football team. Now, if you were talking about this, listen, people are talking about selling their tickets. Let me tell you who knows that you can't support a team from sitting on the couch like you can't in the stand. That's the Georgia fans. And they're the ones buying them up, Matt.
Starting point is 00:51:42 They're the ones buying them up. So here's the deal. If you put your tickets out there, they're the ones getting them. This is the best time of the year, Matt. We go to the games, we get our tailgates, we get our TVs and generators. We get our food. We get our friends. We enjoy this time.
Starting point is 00:51:57 We have hope and anxiety. about the program, and I do not, I just want to encourage every big blue flag. If you've got a ticket, do not let one fluke game. And that's what it was. You talked about it's a opinion. The ball bounced a couple different ways. We got a different game. Do not let one fluke game rob you of the joy of supporting this team.
Starting point is 00:52:19 The truth is, Matt, we don't know what kind of team we got right now, okay? Them coaches over there, they are excellent coaches. They are top of the nation. They're going to get these boys, swear to. way. I'm not saying we can win. I was disgusted with the performance. I'm not saying that we're going to win, but I'm also going to not say that it's an impossibility. I mean, South Carolina beat up. Nobody has them beat us. The ball bounces a couple ways. It does. But regardless, we improve. We go in next week. We take care of business. We improve. And then we go
Starting point is 00:52:50 down there. And that is the game, Matt. You mentioned earlier, and I was calling it about that old miss game. And that's another thing. Listen, you want to talk about people bouncing back. We'll come back.
Starting point is 00:53:10 I'm sorry, Chester, give him a round of applause. They're cutting me off. We'll be back, hour number two. Chester getting them pumped up on KSR. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the Yajar Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:55:25 Hey, what's good, y'all? listening to learn the hard way with your favorite therapist and host Kear Games.
