Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:00 And for more, follow Timbo Slica Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Life is full of hurdles. So how do you keep going? On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we're talking with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness from professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions about the challenges that shape them and the mindset that keeps them moving forward. At our level, at this scale, being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app. Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports.
Starting point is 00:01:36 Hey, what's good, y'all? You're listening to Learn the Hard Way with your favorite therapist and host, Kear Games. This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing. How many men carry a suit or armor? It signals to the world that you not to be played with. And just because you have the capability that does not. mean that you need to. Listen to learn the hard way on the AHA radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:02:07 I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on. A Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman. Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud. But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:02:37 Welcome back. It is hour number two Tegu Sports Radio at the Mint Gaming Hall by Draft King's opening of the sports book today. It will open officially in one hour and then you'll be able to bet
Starting point is 00:02:53 to bet games here through Draft Kings. First game is tonight, bills and dolphins. We for those of you at students at KS Bar 30% off Shannon if you show a student ID on drinks and alcohol tonight the reason being I offered that last week and we couldn't get the button to work for the alcohol so we only did it on food so I feel like I have to be a man of my word wow so I'm doing the 30% off the alcohol tonight with a student ID and I'll even go so far as to say Shannon we'll take it even if it's an ID from when you were in school
Starting point is 00:03:29 Oh, really? So if I had my old Bellarmine or my Lindsey Wilson student ID. If you had a Bellarmine ID and you showed it, I'll go ahead and take 30% off your drinks, pay for it tonight. Slow down. There's no other bar in America is doing that deal. But here's the thing. If you do that, I'm allowed to take a picture of your ID and do one of those things where we go, what's the TikTok? I got guns in my head and they show you when you're in high school and then they show you now. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:57 I get to do that if you try to use. use an old one. It's a I'm going by I'm going to be there tonight and I'm going to do that. For 30% off I feel like that's a fair trade. Yeah. I mean that's going to be those will be good price tonight. So bills and dolphins this evening since we're at draft Kings let's do our draft king's pick of the day. Draft Kings go to use a promo code KSR, bet five get 250 and free bonus bets. Bill's Dolphins, Dolphins a two and a half point favorite at home who you got, Shannon? I'm going with the bills. I think taking the bills. All right. What about you? I'm going bills too too too too much drama with the dolphins this week
Starting point is 00:04:31 what's the drama with the Tyreek hill stuff but that happened before the last game but it's like it's all the media keeps talking about it bringing it up and every interview they're talking about it all right so you're taking bills yep all right really expecting a good game here that two and a half is pushing me to take the dolphins win by field goal I'll take I'll take Miami I'm gonna take I got a bill sweatshirt on I'm gonna go with you all take the bills so I go to draft king set it up and then And when we go to Green Bay later this week, I'll tell you about another thing they're doing as well. 859-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:05:09 Let me ask you a question before we get to the phones. London, Kentucky. High school football games being canceled all over the region on Friday night. School's still out. Most people have been out of school all week long. We talked about this last night. How long? I mean, how, if you were in charge of the school district of Laurel County or Livingston
Starting point is 00:05:37 or the places that are right there, would you, well, let's start with this. Would you cancel the football game Friday night? I probably would. I wouldn't want to be the guy that didn't cancel it and then tragically something happens. I just don't know if I would want to take that risk, reschedule the game for it up for a later date. Shannon, would you? Yeah, I'm kind of with Ryan. I mean, I understand that, you know, at some point you have to move on,
Starting point is 00:06:03 but you also don't want to be the reason that more people get killed if that guy is, you know, by some chance, still running loose out there. Drew. Yeah, I think you have to be extra cautious here. I'd cancel it too. I don't know the team schedules, but hopefully they can find a place later in the year to get it done. I just don't know. I mean, how long are you going to go?
Starting point is 00:06:25 Like, you know, there's a very good chance this will not be resolved next week. right I mean I hope it is but every day I mean if you've ever watched dramas if they don't catch them in the first 48 hours right it becomes very very difficult to catch them and you may eventually but it becomes very difficult to catch them I I don't know how long you like I mean are you going to have school next week are you going to have school the week after that at some point don't you have to I mean don't at some point you have to move on I mean you can't do this forever I wonder, well, we're just discussing it. Do they think that maybe he's still in the area, and that's why they're going this route? And if they do, I get it.
Starting point is 00:07:11 And I'm not even saying I disagree with the decision. They know more about it than I do, so I don't want to like, I'm not trying to say. I'll give you a perfect example. You know, yesterday we talked about Fayette County School Board going off of Twitter. And I said, well, I don't know about that. Then I had somebody reach out to me and say, well, let me explain the decision. We don't have that many people who follow us on Twitter. And what has been happening is every time we post something,
Starting point is 00:07:39 the comment section is full of, like, explicit things. And there's nothing we can do about that. And we don't want students getting on there to try to see the updates and then having to see all that. So they're like, with not many people on it, it doesn't really make sense to make it to where we set this up and students have to look at it and then they see all this stuff. Well, whether you agree or disagree with that, that makes some sense to me, Ryan, right?
Starting point is 00:08:05 You know, you can see why somebody would make that decision. Yeah, I heard the same thing. There's a lot of pornographic stuff is being posted on their site. So that's parents, kids, everybody's seeing all that. Apparently spam bots, and this is like why Twitter's falling apart, spam bots are targeting school accounts. Wow. To put the stuff under it. And, you know, Twitter, Musk, and they're not stopping it.
Starting point is 00:08:28 So it's like, I can see why they'd say that. So back to the London situation, you could see why, you know, there may be something, Drew, I don't know, but at some point you do have to move forward or you can't just, everybody just can't stay in their house forever, right? I agree. With this just being the first high school Friday, I get doing it this one time to be cautious. I would bring it back next week. Hopefully it's resolved by next week, but I agree, you can't do this forever. I just think being the first one, I understand why they're leaning on the cautious side. And probably I could also, again, try to make.
Starting point is 00:09:01 the other case I could see them saying this person clearly wanted to do destruction in large numbers if you're in eastern Kentucky the one place where they're going to be the most people in one place at the same time is a football game maybe that's part of it too yeah remember after 9-11 they canceled all NFL all major league baseball all major sporting events for that fear but it was also important after 9-11 that the Yankees played and that George W. Bush walked out there and through that pitch and said you're not going to change our way of life. I do think that mattered. It's a fine line to walk, and I'm glad that I'm not the one making that decision.
Starting point is 00:09:40 You're right, because it would hit, it'd be a huge burden if you said to have it and then something happened that way on you for the rest of your life. You know, so tough decision. Who's up next? Darren is up next. Derek. Go ahead, Darren. Hey, Matt, this is Darren calling.
Starting point is 00:09:56 First time caller. Who I? Yeah. Yeah, and I just want to switch gears and talk about Kentucky basketball a little bit. All right, what do you want to talk about? I wish nothing but success for Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats. But there will never, and I mean, Lord. Okay, your fake call.
Starting point is 00:10:17 Who's next? Who's next? I knew it was a fake call from the moment he said hello. And then the more you went, I knew it was a fake call more. I will tell you this, if you're going to do a fake call, You can't use a voice like that. I gave you, only because we were in public, did I give you about three seconds more than I would have?
Starting point is 00:10:35 That was a fake call, and I could tell. Who's up next? Austin is up next. Austin, go ahead, Austin. Oddly enough, I actually have a Kentucky basketball question as well, but I won't do that. Sounds good. I'm having a hard time putting my expectations into a regular season context.
Starting point is 00:10:53 I know we've talked a bunch about what the season being successful would look like, elite eight final four from 16 but just regular season should we you know Kentucky basketball we always expect the best but should we expect like team that's like 20 25 8 9 losses something like that i have no idea i have no idea i with basketball and i appreciate to call drew i have absolutely no idea what to expect i when i walked in here i had a guy stopped me and say what do you think the basketball team's record's going to be, and I have no idea. You could tell me this team will be 26 and 5 or 25 and 6 and contend to win the SEC and be a two-seat in the tournament, and I'd go, okay, I can see that. You could tell me they'll lose 10 games. There'll be a sixth seed in the
Starting point is 00:11:45 tournament, and that wouldn't shot me either. It would shot me if they missed the tournament, but like, Drew, I have no idea what to expect with this. And nobody does. It's so new. It's a new system, new coach. Every player on the team is new. I do think with so much experience in depth, they have a pretty high floor. They got to make the tournament. I think it's an absolute disaster. They don't make the tournament. There's enough talent to be good, just how good, really have no clue. They could be six in the SEC or they could be up there fighting with Alabama. Yeah, I mean, do you feel Ryan confident in making any prediction about the basketball team one way or the other? No. Matter of fact, I was going to say, ask me in December.
Starting point is 00:12:24 Ask me if they play Gonzaga. I think that Duke game, we've got to just write it off. I'm not going to have any expectations about that. We're not right, Duke. But I'm going to just wait and look maybe how do they do that. Gonzaga game and the Climpsons. A road game. Clipson's a road game.
Starting point is 00:12:37 I mean, I think we'll find out what kind of team they really have. But you could be really good and go to Gonzaga and lose. Of course. You could be a really good team. I mean, Duke, see, I'll tell you for me, Shannon, I just, I want to see how we do. against Louisville. Yep.
Starting point is 00:12:56 A team were probably better than playing at home, but they're better than they've usually been. I think it's going to be hard with Duke, Gonzaga, and Clemson, because Gonzaga and Clemson are true road games. Duke's probably one of the top two or three teams in the country. I just don't know that we're going to know maybe Ohio State up in New York is a good, barometer. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:13:19 If I had to guess, I would say this team is going to pull off some wins that we didn't expect. Yeah. I think they're probably going to drop some games on the road in the SEC that we don't expect. And I feel like 20 wins is a reasonable expectation for the fan base. If you can get the 20 wins, you're in the tournament. Then at that point, anything can happen. Do you think we'll have any loss this year that's embarrassing a la UNC Wilmington, South Carolina at home that year?
Starting point is 00:13:45 Do you think we'll have any loss like that? No. I think Pope will take care of business and beat those teams. What about you, right? Definitely not a non-conference embarrassing loss. think so that's not going to happen yeah I agree that's what I'm saying with the hot floor these guys have half the team is a super senior they played a lot of good basketball you got a guy who's hit a buzzer-beater in the final four a lot of those losses you know we chalked it up to being freshmen
Starting point is 00:14:06 I think that excuse is gone these guys are much farther along now how what their ceiling is is a little different but they should be good enough to win all the non-conference games and I'm with you on duke I'm not I'm not chalking up the duke game as a loss they're going to be really young we're going be really old. In years past, we've lost because our rosters have looked like theirs, and we go, well, it's the first or second game of the year. You know, we're experienced, like, they may not have played together, but this group is going to have played a lot of basketball. I mean, this group, we're going to put, we might be putting a team on the floor, right? I don't know what the statistics are, but I think there's a decent chance. We're going to put a line, lineups on the
Starting point is 00:14:46 floor that have played the most games in college of a team we've had at Kentucky. in 20 years. Which is crazy. We used to have the youngest team. Now we're going to have one of the oldest teams we've ever had. I mean, we've got fifth year guys. We've got guys who started for four years. We have a point guard who played in the national championship game, right?
Starting point is 00:15:09 Like, was the starting point guard and a net hit a shot to send a team to the national championship game. Drew, we got so many guys like, now are any of them great? I don't know. But they all should be pretty good, you know? Yeah, the one of Duns, as good as they were, those early games, it's their first time on national TV playing college basketball. They look up and it as Duke. Andrew Carr has played Duke several times. Kirkreece has played Duke.
Starting point is 00:15:36 Lamont Butler played Yukon and the National Champion. These guys have played meaningful basketball games. They're not going to be overwhelmed by the atmosphere. And think about it. We have no sophomores, right? No sophomores. We have non-jointed. juniors or seniors.
Starting point is 00:15:52 Nine juniors or seniors. And of our three freshmen, two of them are from Kentucky, and one of them went on a two-year Mormon mission, and he's like almost 21 years old, even though he's a freshman. He's 20. So, I mean, this is a team, Shannon, that shouldn't be rattled early in the year.
Starting point is 00:16:09 Yeah, I mean, I look back at a team like Baylor just a few years ago that won the national title with a bunch of transfers. Did they have like one big superstar? They had won. But it could be like Jackson Robinson. Okay, so maybe he's our guy on this team. So I think having a good mix with your roster build up is a good thing.
Starting point is 00:16:24 So I think that, you know, you got to take that as a positive. Robinson beat Kansas last year with Pope. They're not afraid of these big games that the freshmen kind of caught them off guard early in the season. Another good point. These dudes may not have played in a school like Kentucky, but these dudes have all played in tough environments. You know, he's exactly right. Jackson Robinson went into Allen Fieldhouse last year and beat Kansas on the road. and he had like 20 points in that game.
Starting point is 00:16:51 He's not going to be scared of Duke in that first game. You can experience your best happy self with cornbread hemp's new blueberry shit. Yeah. Oh, wow, I really like blueberry. I'm not going to want to you. I haven't heard about this yet. Blueberry cornbread hemp.
Starting point is 00:17:06 Full spectrum, flower-only hemp CBD, completely legal, carefree without the hangover. Didn't even know you could have a hangover, but not with cornbreadthimp.com. Cornbread hemp, 30% off. use the code KSR with cornbread hip. We'll take a break and be right back here at the Mint in Bowling Green. It's Kentucky Sports Radio.

Starting point is 00:18:16 Welcome to my. new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking. Tripp Fontaine,
Starting point is 00:18:31 Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses.
Starting point is 00:18:49 Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth, or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person.
Starting point is 00:19:03 Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free, our heart radio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth.
Starting point is 00:19:23 He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levin this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know.
Starting point is 00:20:01 Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer them? On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going.
Starting point is 00:20:34 From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't. Don't belong. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladecki. The ability to show gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means
Starting point is 00:20:58 the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.
Starting point is 00:21:32 Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here in Bowling Green.
Starting point is 00:22:01 Absolutely great crowd. Awesome crowd here at the Draft King Sportsbook at the Mint. Thank you all very much for coming by. It's been awesome to have you, and we still got some more time. Got a duty getting breakfast. breakfast looked good was that good breakfast in there he killed it that looked very very good i can i now know what i can eat when i come into uh to bowling green that in one of your 700 restaurants that you have here um at k y sports radio text machine is 772 774 5254 by the way
Starting point is 00:22:32 i heard this on the pre show and now on this one i the phone lines 859 2802287 not a ton of calls I hope that's not a sign, Shannon, for what ends up happening Saturday. Yeah. There's a part, I hope people have not turned the page on football, and I'm a little concerned some people may have. It's week three. It's still early. There's a lot of football to play.
Starting point is 00:22:55 No reason to be so, you know, checked out at this point of the season. One person writes, Matt, do I get a Shannon debate scorecard? I waited for it yesterday, and he never did it. I forgot. That's not Shannon's fault. That's my fault. I was ready to go with it. I forgot.
Starting point is 00:23:11 I'll tell you what, we'll do it. Would you rather do it today? Today's probably a better situation than tomorrow. So we'll do it. Whatever. Whatever. You just tell me. Yeah, I want to hear it.
Starting point is 00:23:21 Okay. Did you, because you're the only person that watched all of them. I watched just about every bit of it. It was, it was fiery. I'll say that. Like, both sides, you can tell if she really got under his skin. Like, kind of threw him off his game a little bit. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:35 And I think that was the strategy from the beginning. I think that was smart. She paid it even then he came. All right. So let's do it. Survivor League. Most of the people have put their picks in for the Survivor League. Shannon, you and I are out. Yeah. We both pick the bingles. Cincinnati. Stupid bingles decided to lose. So we are out. I've gotten the picks from almost everyone else in the league
Starting point is 00:23:58 and they're spread out amongst a bunch of teams. Where's Mario? Mario, you need to come on here and be able to pick. Here, take my mic since I don't know how to pick. You come over and pick him. Mario, come on over. Ryan, I will let you go first. Who is going to be your pick? It is kind of a weird week. A lot of the good teams are playing each other, and a lot of the bad teams are playing each other. So I tried to find a good team at home against the bad team. So I'm going with the Ravens over the Raiders. All right. I like how you enunciated like that. I could not figure out. Ravens over Raiders. That looks to be the most popular pick in the league so far. Billy, I'll let you go. What do you got?
Starting point is 00:24:38 Yeah, I'd like to use the Ravens later in the year, so I'm not going to take the popular pick. I'm going to take the Chargers on the road against the Panthers. Chargers on the road. It's a road team that's dangerous. I live dangerously. It's the Panthers. Do you live dangerously, really?
Starting point is 00:24:52 He was last night. Just two mimosas, please. Wait a minute. Oh, you did live dangerously last night? Oh, I did. Oh, yeah. He called Mario a lightweight. So Billy is now advanced up the partying ladder.
Starting point is 00:25:03 Billy wants Mario here. Billy wants someone on the food chain he can pick on. He's been getting picked on for years. I've been the youngest for a while. And now he wants to be the one to pick on Mario. I know what you're doing there. But that's all right. So you got the charges.
Starting point is 00:25:17 All right, Drew, what about you? I am going to take America's team, the Dallas Cowboys. They host the Saints. The Cowboys will definitely fizzle out at the end of the year. So I'm going to go and get them while it's week two and they can still win games. Wow, I think you're the first person that's picked the Cowboys in the league. Thank you. Very knowledgeable about these things.
Starting point is 00:25:34 All right, Mario. nice to have you on Mario it's you've become like the most popular person on this show like everywhere we go look at them I don't I don't know how that happened but like everywhere we go
Starting point is 00:25:49 people are taking pictures with you like it's and let me just say what we got set up for you this week I don't even think you know what's about to happen what's going to happen not only are you going to Green Bay for the Packers game we are going to have dinner
Starting point is 00:26:05 at the head of ESPN Radio's house. They not only have you to where you can come into the house, they got you. Well, I mean, he's not part of ESPN, and they're still bringing. They got us a hotel room. I assume they got one hotel room for me and you to share in Milwaukee. No. They got what I've heard is the nicest hotel in Milwaukee.
Starting point is 00:26:30 ESPN paid for you to have your own room. That's how you do it. Nice. That's how you do it right now. Mario had his own room last night. We never have our own room. He's getting spoiled. We went from you and I were going to be staying in the Lakinta Inn in Oshkosh in a shared room to now the nicest hotel in Milwaukee.
Starting point is 00:26:53 You get your own room and I get my own room. I can't believe that's happening. I'm not complaining. And here's the last thing. ESPN said I'll find out today. they might have you a credential for the Packers game. Oh. Which is insane.
Starting point is 00:27:12 Now, if they don't, we're just getting in the car and coming back, just so you know. But if they do, I can't tell you you can't do it. So can you believe this trip? I actually can't believe. I'm excited. Now, I want to go now. Or leave it right after the show at Country Boy, to watch. All right, what's your pick?
Starting point is 00:27:26 I'm going with the Chargers. I had the Chargers last week. You can't have the charges two weeks in a row. That's right. That's a big rule. It's actually the only rule. Who else is playing? Well, there are 31 other teams playing.
Starting point is 00:27:39 I went with Dallas. What did you just say? Mario, if you're not prepared for this at all? I'm not prepared. I'm not prepared at all. I'll take a call and then I'll come back to you. I like how you tried to pick the exact same team you picked last week. Literally the only rule in the league.
Starting point is 00:27:54 What's next? Lucky is up next. Lucky, go ahead, Lucky. Hey, thanks. Take a call, guys. I know it's a long shot, but what would the frenzy of the fans' reactions, expectations be like if we were to upset Duke? They would go high, but I think if we upset Duke, this fan base, Drew, will go insane in a positive way, and we will see an energy around the program that's as big as we've had in a long time.
Starting point is 00:28:28 Wouldn't you agree? Oh, I agree. It would be a great way to start the season. but I got to admit, I feel like so many people are just calling that a loss, and we're not that far behind Duke. Cooper Flag's very good, but I think Kentucky's going to be in that game. I'm expecting them to win. It seems like a lot of the energy today is that they just have no chance in that. Yeah, I think we can win.
Starting point is 00:28:45 Cooper the flag's amazing. Cooper flags great. By the end of the year, Duke's going to be great, but in that game, I don't think there's any reason we can't beat them. We are not some group of chumps next year in basketball. We are a top 15 preseason team, and I hope people realize that. What's your pick, Mario? I got the Ravens. Ravens.
Starting point is 00:29:03 Okay. So Ryan and Mario are on the Ravens, Billy the Chargers, Drew, the Cowboys, and Shannon and I are already out of a league that I created, and now I don't even get to play in. 859-2-8027-287. Text machine is 772-754. We're going to take a break. We are here in Bowling Green at the Mint.
Starting point is 00:29:23 Take your calls. Cats and Georgia Saturday. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio. 859-28027 there are people telling me here drew the hotel in Milwaukee which they guessed I guess there must not be that many really nice hotels in Milwaukee is haunted oh now I'm jealous now we've stayed this group stayed in a haunted hotel before Oklahoma City and they became they became convinced that what somebody grabbed a bottle or something
Starting point is 00:29:57 it was a glass of wine that was turned upside down that was not turned upside down when we came by earlier. Which was, of course, not true. Couldn't have been anybody else. Shannon and I slept the whole night with the lights on. Like, they're not kidding. They slept with the lights on because they were that nervous about it. It was Ryan's idea.
Starting point is 00:30:14 So, I just want to know how when we go on the road, we get to stay in bunk beds in a kid's room, or we get a couch out in the living room. You and Mario get these nice sweets in a five-star hotel. Because ESPN's pain. That's the difference. They're having, like, this is like a big event. They're bringing all their NFL people and all their college people together. And so that's why it's not just for us.
Starting point is 00:30:36 We're just jealous. We feel like you have a new favorite. The Golden Boy over here. It's true. Bed, had one last night. Yeah. What is he going to fly to Seattle and we're going to drive? Yeah, we'll meet you there.
Starting point is 00:30:45 Yeah. Well, you know, everybody likes him. What are we going to do? Give me the Prince's bed. 859-2-80. Scoot over, Shannon. I'm getting into it, too. 2287.
Starting point is 00:30:55 One person writes, Matt, I'm excited about our basketball team, but what really makes me sad is NFL Twitter is going crazy about how great Liam Cohen did at the Bucks game. That bothers me. Yeah, I don't know if you all have seen. Like, it's kind of become the thing on Twitter for the NFL sort of dorks. They're all like Liam Cohen's offense in Tampa Bay is unbelievable. And they show how he got guys open and Baker Mayfield. And it's just, Ryan, it's just like, are you kidding me? As soon as he leaves here, he's crushing it. And Shannon Dawson is crushing it with Miami.
Starting point is 00:31:35 And, you know, it's like, are you? Are you kidding me? I saw the Liam Cohen clatter. Clatter. Clutter. Yeah. But I don't know what he could have done last week with our offensive line. I mean, that's why I don't put anything on our offense or Brock Vandergris
Starting point is 00:31:49 because the line could not give him time to do absolutely anything at all. But doesn't it frustrate you a little bit? Like, at some point, it's not always. the offensive coordinator. You know, at some point we... I think we're at that point. You know, you have six straight girlfriends that you say are crazy. At some point, it's on you.
Starting point is 00:32:11 You know? At some point, like, it's not them, it's you. And there's a part of me, we've been kind of clamoring for an offense. Maybe it's not just the coordinate. Yeah, and these crazy girlfriends go find new love and really enjoying their relationship. They're thriving, doing great. Maybe we do the mirror.
Starting point is 00:32:32 Your crazy girlfriend goes and marries Brad Pitt. Maybe it's on you, like, at some point. I don't know if Baker Mayfield, Tampa's quite Brad Pitt, but you're right. That's one of the big takeaways from that first weekend. There's a video. It says like an all caps. Liam Cohen was cooking or something. It's like, I don't want to watch that.
Starting point is 00:32:48 I don't want to watch him cook. He's moved on from us. But it does sting knowing that these guys are finding success. He's from a great coaching tree that throws it around. It's not crazy to think he wasn't allowed to do that. I've not met Bush. Hamden, but I will say this. I didn't really ever get to talk to the Skangarello except once. But I'm a big believer that if you're smart, you have a really good chance of success in anything
Starting point is 00:33:12 you do. Liam Cohen was really smart. Neil Brown was really smart. Skangarello, I think, was really smart. I'm not sure if Shannon Dawson was really smart. I hear Bush Hamden is really smart. Like at some point you're going to bring in all these smart guys, Shannon, you got to let them do their thing. You got to let them do their thing. And I just wonder, and I think that's a lot of fans' question, is how handcuffed are these offensive coordinators when they come in? Because like you said, they thrive everywhere else. Why isn't it working here? There's got to be an explanation for that. And I think that maybe Stoops isn't just allowing them to be themselves. What worries me is, if you go back,
Starting point is 00:33:49 if you heard the halftime interview on radio with Stoops, as he's walking on off the field for the halftime interview. He says, I'm really not happy with these offensive play calls. It's week two. You got a new offensive coordinator. I know there were a couple mistakes, but I'll tell you what. I don't know what worked in the first half, but I know what didn't work in the second half, which was everything.
Starting point is 00:34:14 So on some level, you got to look at the person who might be putting on the handcuffs. Who's up next? David is up next. David, go ahead, David. Yeah, hey guys, regarding the upcoming basketball, really the tenure of Mark Pope, I am most excited about the ball movement that I'm anticipating. Yes, there'll be a lot of it. And even more so, even more so the off ball movement, there were times, and I appreciate what Cal did for us very much. But there were times when I would stream with the television because we would have guys like Kelly Brady go stand in your corner and we would have one guy fibrilling and maybe two guys.
Starting point is 00:34:53 moving, but we rarely had two or four or five guys moving. And I coached the difference for I coached soccer for many many years. And if my players didn't move unselfishly off the ball to make things to create spaces where they left, then I pulled them off the field because you have to be doing something. You can't just stand there. But I don't think that's the players fault. I think they were told to go stand in the corner. I mean, I agree. I agree. That's my point. That's my point. I think Mark Pope's motion offense is going to create more havoc for the defenses. And even if our players aren't five stars, I think it's going to make them look more like five stars. Appreciate the call. Drew, let me ask you. He mentioned Kell and Grady.
Starting point is 00:35:40 Let's think of some Cal players that if they played for Pope might have ended up being a lot better. I mean, look, there are definitely guys that would be better fits for Cal than Pope. like a dude like Deeran Fox was definitely a cow guy but let's think about dudes who might have been better Pope guys than Cal. Kelly Grady is one of the first one that comes to my mind. Killing Grady on a Pope team probably is an absolute star whereas he was like kind of good with Cal. Can you think of others? Really any of the shooters that just didn't get much time on the court. Juzang, I was about to say Jusang, my guy Michael Mulder, even Jamal,
Starting point is 00:36:19 Baker. I mean, you get those guys a lot younger, but those are pure shooters who just needed more looks and to play through it where we all know Cal was pretty quick to pull them out if their first shot. Johnny Jusang, who's in the NBA and couldn't get on the floor at Kentucky. He's one Ryan that I feel like would have been a different player under Pope. And it seems like most of the names we're coming up with have been just in the last four or five years. I mean, even Davian Mintz, I think would probably thrive better in a kind of Pope system than with Cal. Maybe even Scow. Somebody like to go back to the basket.
Starting point is 00:36:52 Nate Sestina. Yeah. Nate Sestina. I mean, we saw how good he was this summer in the TV. I'm trying to think of some of the other transfers that, you know, thrived at other schools. Quadet Green comes to mind as well. Look at Olivier Sars.
Starting point is 00:37:05 Olivia Sarr has found a five or six year NBA career. He's not a star, but he has a role. And honestly, on that team, he looked awful on that team. and I wonder how much of it was the way he was used. I have my number one answer. Okay. Big Z. The way he passes and shoots threes, he absolutely should have stayed with Mark Pope.
Starting point is 00:37:29 I get why he left. Cal brought him to America, got him the opportunity in college basketball. I get it. But Big Z is made for Pope's system. He won't be shooting any threes this year. We already heard. Well, here's, this will be, let me ask you this. What if we get Cal down in Arkansas,
Starting point is 00:37:43 and he plays the way we always wish he had played here in the last few years? I think there's going to be a little bit where he changes because he feels more comfortable changing there. He doesn't want to do it here where the bennies were yelling at him. That will frustrate me. If he goes out there and he plays the style that everybody was talking about him playing here down there. And if he does, I think Drew's right. It'll be out of stubbornness. That will drive me absolutely insane, Ryan.
Starting point is 00:38:10 I'm not going to lie to you. Yeah. He lets Z get out there on the perimeter. He plays three guards, three shooters out there. That's what we wanted all year. those four guys that for that rotation never saw it but here's the reality he's not going to do that because he's he once again went and got a bunch of big dudes and he's going to play them all together and they're going to struggle because of that that's my guess
Starting point is 00:38:28 for arkansas no i'm sure chin will draw something up have them looking real good dude drew franklin versus chin coleman but i tell you when they come to town keep chin and away from drew i don't think chin would like to see him Who's up next? Charles is up next. Charles, go ahead, Charles. Hey there, I've got one basketball point and one football point.
Starting point is 00:38:56 In basketball, I actually met Coach Cal out in the parking lot of the Morale Coliseum last year. And I just asked him, I said, why don't you put it into Kentucky weave and have a motion offense? And he said it would be too complicated. And I wonder now if it was too complicated for the players or too complicated for him to teach. But anyway, here's my football suggestion. If any of you all have connections to the Catholic Church, we need someone to perform an exorcism. The Pope and our boys. Okay, good.
Starting point is 00:39:26 We need to perform an exorcism at Commonwealth Stadium. I appreciate Charles. First of all, I like you, Charles. Do you really go up to Cal in a parking lot and tell him what he should, what kind of plays he runs? No. No. people who would do that. Oh, yes. Knowing Charles, he's
Starting point is 00:39:48 one of those dudes who would do that. If you're overpaying for sunglasses, stop. Go to shady rays.com. Premium polarized shades for every activity. Shannon, I see you in them all the time. I love them. I've got like three or four pair that I wear. I just kind of, you know, rotate them around. Yes, that's because you're a fashionable

I got the tangle-free. Got them last time. Tangle free. Your hair's not long. Well, I told him that. Here you go anyway.

I'm going 30% of your drinks out of my breakfast. pocket. So come on out tonight and watch the game. We finally, I think, got the TVs to work, maybe. So I think it should be really good. It's now time. He hadn't done it in a while, probably since, I don't know, Iowa. Since the Iowa caucuses back in 2020, it's time for Shannon the dudes debate scorecard. All right. Thank you very much, Matt. You know, I just want to say, first of all, I feel like we're a nation divided when it comes to politics. This is designed to bring all of us together by pissing off both sides equally.
Starting point is 00:46:11 So I want to start with the... Can we use that word? Yeah, we can. Okay, all right. I want to start with the awkward handshake to start. I'm going plus two. That's one for each. So plus one for both sides with the awkward handshape.
Starting point is 00:46:24 All right. We'll start with Trump. He got a debate haircut and nice job with the makeup. So I'm going plus two. You really like the makeup? I like the makeup. All right good. He wore an American flag a pen plus one.
Starting point is 00:46:37 You're big on that. I want to see how patriotic you are. If you don't have the American flag. pen you're not you're not a patriot you've always been like that uh he said during the pandemic he was able to provide things that no one would ever imagine like masking gowns plus two you believe him hey masky all right plus two now according to Harris Trump sold American chips to China I mean I don't know what kind of chips they were so I'm going minus three I didn't know like Doritos
Starting point is 00:47:07 Fritos Cheetos like what are we talking here we don't China to have our No, you can't have our Doritos. Trump says the immigrants are eating our dogs and cats. I knew you're going to bring this one out. Minus two for each species. One for each species, minus two. Wait a minute, you don't want, because he said it, or because you don't want people to eat dogs and cats?
Starting point is 00:47:25 Because I don't want people to eat dogs and cats. And I think he's also wrong by saying that, so that's why I'm deducting two points. That's right. He also didn't answer like any of the questions, which he had, I think, at least five direct questions that were not answered at all. So I'm going minus five there. also seem to get angry and angrier as the debate went on, minus one.
Starting point is 00:47:44 And then finally for Trump, uh, Trump said that she doesn't have a plan other than the one that she copied off Biden. He said that's a basically a four sentence plan, run spot run, which I don't even know what that means. That's, I will point out that's not even four sentences. That's three words. So minus three for a total score of minus eight for Trump. Well, you're very hard on these politicians.
Starting point is 00:48:06 You always have been. All right. I think in Iowa, did anyone get a point? positive score? I don't think anybody did. Okay. No. All right.
Starting point is 00:48:14 Kamala Harris. She also wore the American flag pin. Plus one. All right. Hair and makeup. On point. Plus two. According to Trump, she and Biden had the highest inflation.
Starting point is 00:48:24 Inflation like no one has ever seen before. People can't go out and buy bacon, eggs, or cereal now. Minus three for each one of those. Now, you know, he should have said a lot more products. It's true. A lot more minuses. Oh, hey. Okay.
Starting point is 00:48:39 Now, at one point, her micro. phone was supposed to be muted, but she talked over Trump during his time, and she was shushed. She got shushed. That's minus one for unsportswoman-like conduct. All right. She says she has plans for this and that and that and this, but then she's had almost four years to do those things, and she hasn't done any of them. I'm going minus four for that. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:49:04 Four to spell like a good number. Well, that's how many years? There you go. That's how many years. See, now you're in my mind. I'm starting to figure out Shannon's scale. She is not going to ban fracking, which I like, so plus two. Wait a minute, hang on.
Starting point is 00:49:17 What do you know about fracking? Let's move on. Had you heard of fracking? Yes. Okay, good. I may have done it a few times. She's going. I don't think that's what you think it is.
Starting point is 00:49:31 She's going to give $6,000 to everyone who has a kid. So in other words, she's incentivizing even more fracking, plus two. For a total score of zero, Kamala Harris wins at zero to negative eight. Zero to negative eight. First of all, Shannon, well done. Thank you. You're getting booed. That's okay.
Starting point is 00:49:51 That's all right. Listen, I booed John Higgins. Just be careful. You don't want to get sued when it ends up happening. Well, Shannon, well done. I don't know if there's going to be another debate, so that one may have to be the only one. Sounds like it's one and done this year. Yeah, it sounds like it.
Starting point is 00:50:07 Would you want another one? If they could have it? Yeah. Let's do another scorecard. Let's do it. All right. Who's up next? Don is up next.
Starting point is 00:50:16 Don, go ahead, Don. Yeah, I just wanted to say, thanks for taking my call. I'm in Maryland. A great scorecard. Thank you. He's the best at it. I'm looking forward to the basketball season. I want to kind of make a quick observation about players that are much better on their team
Starting point is 00:50:35 because they have a particular teammate. My example would be. Reed because he had Rob on his team and he learned some of those tips and tricks that Rob did to get to the basket and do some of his moves. I think he improved a lot because and Philo-d-d-old was pretty good at getting to the back. I mean, Reed and Rob are very different players. So I, yeah, I would say, Reed being great, and I knew he'd be good. But him being great was one of the more pleasant surprises I can remember in basketball.
Starting point is 00:51:12 I knew he was going to be good. But if you had told me he was going to be the number three pick in the draft, I would have never believed it. And you got to give that kid a ton of credit, whether it's Cal, Rob, Reed, Jeff, Stacey, whatever. That was one of the more pleasant surprises for me as a player of all time. Yeah, he was a great shooter and a great floor general. and great defensively. I just think it helped him a little bit and pick up a piece or two of Rob's game.
Starting point is 00:51:43 I think it would have helped him a lot more if they had actually let him play with Rob a little bit more. But I appreciate the call. I wish we had seen more of that. I like that exercise of players that helped others. Like we don't have Anthony Davis without Duran Lamb making him the player he became. There's not a bigger Duran Lamb fan on this planet. We don't have the 2012 title without Duran Lamb. I mean, a part of it is because you have a lot of it is.
Starting point is 00:52:04 because you ended up getting Duran Lambs used mattress, which I do think is part of why you feel such a connection. I encourage everyone. If you can get your favorite athlete's mattress when they throw it out. And by the way, I'm not kidding. He did get Duran Lambs used mattress. And then the Lees Town Goodwill got it after me. It keeps on giving. It's out there with someone else right now. Duran Gay, he had a lot that kept on giving. That's exactly right. Team no sleep. Hey, thank you very much, Bowling Green, for coming out here.
Starting point is 00:52:32 Absolutely. Seriously. Awesome crowd here at the debut of the Draft King Sportsbook. They just brought us food out here. The food is actually really, really good. Starting point is 00:52:52 Always a fun day. Usually I end up having to drive around home when it's over, so that's how you know it's a good one. And then Saturday, of course, the Georgia game should be a blast. Thank you guys very much. Bowling Green, one of our... favorite cities to go to draft teams. We will see you later.
