Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headlines. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:00 And for more, follow Timbo Slica Life 12 in the TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. Hey, what's good, y'all? You're listening to Learn the Hardway with your favorite therapist and host, Kear Games. This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing. How many men carry a suit or armor? It signals to the world that you not to be played with. And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to.
Starting point is 00:01:30 Listen to learn the hard way on the AHA radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on. A Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman. Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud. But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:02:06 Life is full of hurdles. So how do you keep going? On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we're talking with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness from professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions about the challenges that shape them and the mindset that keeps them moving forward. At our level, at this scale, being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287. The text machine, 772-744-5254.
Starting point is 00:02:54 Ryan Lemon, I want to tell you about this week. I can't wait to hear your stories. All right, so I got Mario on here as well to talk about it. Mario and I drove. Here was our schedule. We left here Friday. We left from the remote at Country Boy. We went and stayed in Chicago Friday night.
Starting point is 00:03:13 Saturday got up, went from Chicago to Milwaukee, went to a party, the ESPN party Saturday night. And then we got up Sunday morning, drove from Milwaukee to Green Bay, which is two hours, then eight and a half hours back after the game to Lexington. and then we got up this morning and came to Somerset. So I'm going to be honest with you. I'm a little bit tired. But, first of all, describe what you thought of northern Indiana your first time seeing corn and windmills.
Starting point is 00:03:43 Lots of woodmills, lots of corn. I didn't know. I've always heard of woodmills in Indiana. I just didn't know there are so many. Yeah, stretched out for miles and miles. And I'm telling Matt, Matt does a good job. The whole, like the entire trip, everybody's talking about the music with Matt. He was just making me laugh the whole time.
Starting point is 00:04:01 Like, he was a big jokester. Like he was just cracking jokes the whole time. But, yeah, like I said, Whitmills, lots of corn, and then we basically got into Chicago. Yeah, but you said you thought it looked like a horror movie. Yes, it did. At one point, Matt was playing, I don't remember what song you were playing, but the vibes of the song matched where we were. Yes. Did you like Conway Twitty?
Starting point is 00:04:24 He was interesting. He was interesting. He was not my vibe, Matt. He did say he'd like listening to Tyler Chilbers. He liked Tyler Chiltern. He really liked your favorite song I played was that Jamie Johnson in color song. You really liked that one. Great lyrics.
Starting point is 00:04:42 You said that I didn't realize the guy that's from Nicholsville. I can't think of his last name, but he's from Nicholasville. He went to E.K.U., the guy that wrote that song. I didn't know that. All right, so we get to Chicago. Then we go to Milwaukee. So I just want to explain this party we went to. First of all, they.
Starting point is 00:04:54 have us in a very like sprinter van was it a sprinter van matt yeah yeah it was in a spriter but they have us in this like very artistic hotel right like there's paintings everywhere mario walks in goes i don't really do art so it was it was a different vibe i think but then they we all this guy has it in his house now he all of our ESPN bosses are there my radio boss the sales boss this is at the guy who basically runs the sales and all that this is his house I want you to think about a house that's as nice as any house you've ever seen. I want to picture this house. It is on Lake Michigan.
Starting point is 00:05:34 But when I say it's on Lake Michigan, I don't mean like it's up here, he's got a dock. I mean the water comes up to the rocks and there's his yard. Wow. You walk out of his yard and you're on Lake Michigan. It is unbelievable. He has a house. In his house is a basketball court. where he has the 2021 Milwaukee Bucks NBA title.
Starting point is 00:05:59 You remember that sign that said Fear the Deer that would be by? He has that in his house. He bought it. He bought the 2021 Milwaukee Bucks title, Drew. It's in his house. This sounds like some goals. The house is unbelievable. And as we walk up, though, it's on a street where you have to ask permission to get on it.
Starting point is 00:06:20 Okay? As we pull up, there are people, if you've ever seen white loat, There are people standing out front waving, like as the boat comes up in White Lotus and everyone's waving. And Myron looks at Mario and goes, dude, I wonder if this is like a get-out situation. Definitely get-out, a lot of get-out vibes. He was, and Myron says to Mario, if I signal you, we're running. It was definitely that vibe, because it was probably what? 200 white people you and Myron?
Starting point is 00:06:52 There was about me and Myron and I think two other black people. Two other black people were in there. So there's a lot of people there. All right. We walk up. We're early. I don't know why we got there so early. The bus came late, man.
Starting point is 00:07:05 The bus came late. We were still early. We get there. The only people there at the time are me, Myron, Mario, Mike Tannenbaum, and Steve Levy. Okay? So Steve Levy from ESPN. This guy is like our boss, and I've never met him before. ever, ever, okay? This is his house. He's very nice. He's welcoming us in, et cetera.
Starting point is 00:07:29 We go around and introduce ourselves. Miron goes first, says, I'm Miron Metcalf. He goes, oh, Myron, I love you, blah, blah, blah. I go, I'm Matt Jones. And he looks at me and says, oh, you're the guy that makes everybody mad at ESPN radio. What? That's what he said. That's your boss saying that. Is that not what he said? You're the guy that pisses everybody off. Well, that's not the language we were going to use on the radio, but that's what he said. Mario's told us exactly how it was. That is exactly what he said.
Starting point is 00:07:58 And I've never met this guy, and I'm like, oh. Oh, is that? I was like, is that really what he was like, well, not everybody. Just you do things very differently. And I'll go, oh, okay. So that's the introduction. Wow. From one of your bosses.
Starting point is 00:08:16 That's my introduction. They say the same thing about you. What you should have said. So we spend the evening. Then they tell us, hey, we're going to interview you and Myron and one of the morning show people, Michelle Smallman, in front of the crowd. So there's 200 people in the crowd, and we're sitting on chairs. I don't know anyone there except Myron, Mario, and Michelle. And they interview us in front of everybody.
Starting point is 00:08:42 It's a little awkward, but I thought it went all right, right? It was a great interview. But this is the funny part to me. Mario sits in the front row. Okay, because he's being nice. He's watching us. When we're done, we leave and go out the back, but he's trapped. I can't move.
Starting point is 00:08:58 Because then they bring Steve Levy and Mike Tannenbaum to do their podcast live in front of everybody. I don't want to be rude, Drew. Everyone else in the party decides to go drink. They decide to go eat. My man is trapped. Watching the Mike Tannenbaum and Steve Levy podcast. You were stuck there for like an hour and a half. I couldn't move.
Starting point is 00:09:20 I didn't want to bring too much attention and just disrespect them. Are you a regular listener now? I guess so. I guess so. Then Steve Levy, okay, how long have you seen Steve Levy on television? Since I've had a year. He's been around forever, and then, you know, he's right there. There's Steve Levy, right there.
Starting point is 00:09:37 He comes up and I go, hey, Steve, man, been watching you forever. And he just looks at me and goes, so how do you piss everybody off? Really? And so now my first introduction to Steve Levy, I'm thinking, I don't really know how that happens. And he goes, well, I got to figure that out. He goes, I want to be able to do that too. You like the ESPN bad boy. I guess.
Starting point is 00:10:01 I didn't know that. Do the party. I talk about how I freak out during the Kentucky play. Everybody's coming up and watching the game. Like, again, I'm the Kentucky guy. Everybody's talking about Kentucky. We're about to leave. The boss, again, thanks everybody.
Starting point is 00:10:16 Nice guy. and he looks, he pulls this stranger over, and he pulls him over, and he goes, and he points at me, he goes, Matt Jones right here, let me tell you something. He's a great radio talent. I mean, he's not as good as he thinks he is. Wow. But he's a great radio talent. And I went, oh, well, thanks.
Starting point is 00:10:38 I mean, how do you answer that, Drew? I mean, I never dealt with this man before, and, like, twice. It's like you got ambushed. Was this an intervention for you? Every interaction you have. I mean, he was like talking to me like we were friends. I was out of love. It was out of love.
Starting point is 00:10:52 I think it was out of love, but it was in front of strangers crazy. So what did you think about being at the party in the house? You'd never been to anything like that. It was like an Instagram house. You see those houses when you scroll on Instagram Reels is one of those houses. It was incredible. It felt like I was in a movie set, like in a movie scene where, you know, me, Matt and Myron, we'd walk right by the rocks in front of Lake Michigan.
Starting point is 00:11:14 The sun is set at this point, and it's just a great. great view and we have our drinks and we're just was talking and enjoying life man i i enjoyed it man to be honest with you like i said felt like i was in a movie and then you went to the steve levy podcast yes i did he told me when i first got here because i asked him about the trip before we started the show he said tyler childers is an incredible he's incredible he's no he's seriously yeah hey shannon find this song this was the one you thought was a great when he sang from the Willie Nelson concert I went to. You remember I went to the night?
Starting point is 00:11:48 He's saying Time of the Preacher. His strong voice. See if you can find that, Shannon, and play it on the way coming in. Because, like, Mario thought it was the, like, best voice he'd ever heard. He was a strong voice. I rode down with Mario today, and so we were talking a lot about the weekend and the trip. And I actually, what was the thing, the funnest thing you did? He said, that party.
Starting point is 00:12:06 That party was amazing. I mean, that's a house. Like, I don't get to go in houses like that very often. And then Sunday at Green Bay, I have to tell you, you know, you get some moments sometimes where you're like, how did I get here? I had a little bit of that yesterday in Green Bay. To be up there doing a remote in front of, like, hundreds of people I didn't know at this tailgate with Myron, ESPN radio sitting behind me with the thing, and then Lambo Field right behind that. And at one point, and he'll never know how important this was to me, because this will be something I'll remember.
Starting point is 00:12:45 I'm sitting there doing it. And I look, and Steve Levy has come over and is just listening to me. Like he's just listening to me and Myron talk and, like, intently listening. And I get a little nervous because I see him. And then to try to make myself less nervous, I go, hey, look there's Steve Levy. And I was like, Myron, look how, look at that guy. What a well-dressed guy. Look at that hair.
Starting point is 00:13:10 Look at that guy. And I said, we love you, Steve Levy. And he just looks at me and he gives me a signal like, you're the man. And I never thought Steve Levy would make me emotional. But it was almost, I don't know. I guess because I never get to go to ESPN, I don't always feel like I'm on it. I'm just doing the shows at my. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:13:31 There was something about that. And then those folks list, like having them listen to me, Ryan, that made it. It was just a cool day. I'm not going to allow to. You know, we look at these guys, and they're kind of larger than life because this is what we do, you know, and you see somebody like that who's been in the business for 25 years, and he's acknowledging what you do. It sounds like you need a moment to yourself right now. It was really cool.
Starting point is 00:13:51 And then, you know, unfortunately, we finish. The game starts, and we just have to get in the car and come right back. I didn't even get to go to the game. But it was still a really neat day. I thought it's cool on social media seeing all the KSR fans, including one of my best friends in college, Mario, tweeted a selfie with. I'm like, what is going on here? How did you two?
Starting point is 00:14:09 We probably had 40 KSR. What do you think? 40 KSR fans come over? Ten groups of five? Ten groups of 40. So like 10 groups of four or five people come over, found us, based on Mario's pictures on social media, found us, came over and said what, like, how big of fans they were. And then it was crazy.
Starting point is 00:14:30 I had a couple people that do me from that show. Yeah. Come over, you know? It was a really cool thing. Mario was a lot of fun, and you seemed. It was neat actually watching Mario experience all that, because he'd never been to Green Bay, never been to Chicago, never been to Milwaukee. It seems like you had fun.
Starting point is 00:14:51 Dude, I had so much fun, man. My favorite part, Matt, was probably, like he said, we're watching the games outside of his house, so his TVs inside the living room. They finally let us in. They eventually invited us in, but just watching that, and when Zion had to almost had the interception, and I had to tap Matt's shoulder because he was too busy celebrating.
Starting point is 00:15:13 So he's running off and he's celebrating. I'm like, Matt, Matt, he's got the ball. He's got the ball. And, like, it was just incredible, man. Like, I enjoyed the entire experience. So I appreciate. Had a lot of fun, man. Appreciate all the people that came up and saw us up in Green Bay.
Starting point is 00:15:27 It was very, very cool, including at the casino in Milwaukee. My friend Adam Kuhlumbeck texting me goes, I'm in Milwaukee at this casino and we got to hang out with him, and I walk into casino, how would you describe the man who recognized me from wrestlers? How would you describe how that man looked? Let's just say I was surprised when he started talking, because I wasn't expecting him to recognize you. It didn't look like a person. You said you're being nice.
Starting point is 00:15:51 You said to me he looked like he needed to shower and I needed to go wash my hands when he shook his head. Very true, very true. But he came up and he goes, aren't you that dude from wrestling? And it threw me off. Like that was crazy. Said Matt, Joe. And then he got our attention, and he's like, you're from wrestlers. I love that show, man.
Starting point is 00:16:13 It was an awesome trip. Well, you could tell. Mario talked a lot about it. Complimented you on your music selection, said he didn't force you. I played some rap for him, so he wouldn't feel totally. He'd never heard of Craig Mack. So I gave him some, I put some brand new flavor in his ear there. A little bit of Luda.
Starting point is 00:16:30 A little bit of Luda, so we did that. But it was fun. Thank you for going, Mario, and helping during the drive. 859-2-80-22-87. We're going to get back to the football and more. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind.

Starting point is 00:17:35 Your host and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
Starting point is 00:17:52 we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Starting point is 00:18:13 Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Keir Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose. On my new podcast, Learn the Hardway. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now.
Starting point is 00:18:33 Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levant this went to a billion dollar fraud.
Starting point is 00:19:06 But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer them?
Starting point is 00:19:39 On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions, to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WMBA standout, Kate Martin, and rising hockey star, Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you,
Starting point is 00:20:02 but don't ever feel like you don't feel on. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ledecki. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world.
Starting point is 00:20:24 Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.
Starting point is 00:20:49 Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days I'd put on 10 pounds, I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back, Techie Sports Radio. All right, so listen to this. When he gets to the chorus here, this was the, you know, Mario Wooden didn't show a lot of emotion about songs.
Starting point is 00:21:25 And then when he heard this, he goes, my goodness, listen to that voice. We have another Tyler Childers fan. I just picture Mario looking out the window at all the windmills. Just so much joy. All right. So, Chan, I want you to turn it up. And when we get to this chorus, because you'll see what I'm saying. Absolutely, tell me somebody who has a voice like this.
Starting point is 00:21:47 Go ahead, Shannon. That is a strong man. It reminds me, Shannon, of how we used to say, no, George Jones. Nobody sounds like him. Nobody sounds like Tyler Childers when he sings songs like that. And it's going to be right here in Louisville. coming up on Sunday. He's going to be there Sunday.
Starting point is 00:22:02 I'm trying to get up the energy to go and fight a festival crowd at Bourbon and beyond. I'm not really a festival guy, but I may have to go on Sunday. Oh, you'll get in there. You don't miss a toddler show. Yeah, I don't miss a lot of them. One person writes, Matt, with the football game on Saturday, do you think that when we go to play Ohio, we will have a better crowd?
Starting point is 00:22:23 I do now, actually. I think a lot of our fan base back on board after what happened this past Saturday. So, yeah, we were a little worried about what the crowd will be like this Saturday. It's parents' weekend. It'll still be full because of what happened on the weekend. I think it will too. Who's up next? Let's go to Joe.
Starting point is 00:22:38 Joe, go ahead, Joe. Thank you, Matt. Usually when I call your show, Matt, I'm usually pretty serious about football. But I'm going to tell you something that happened before the game. We're sitting in the West End Zone, row 18. And I tell my wife, this Georgia boy is getting ready to kick an extra point in practice. And I telling her, it's going to go over the net and come right for her head. And she's just giving me that look like, okay, well, here it comes, Matt.
Starting point is 00:23:07 This ball's heading right from my wife's head. And I'm 72 years old. I'm not as athletic as I used to be. And I kind of whipped on the ball. And the gentleman behind me saved my wife's life. He caught the football for it killed my wife. I don't think he would have killed her, but that's still very nice to the guy sitting behind you. Yes.
Starting point is 00:23:25 I think your wife would not have killed. her, but it might have hurt. Well, I was trying to stand by my lady, but I just didn't get the ball. But thank God the gentleman should be hired her, got it. All right. I don't like you because you kicked it over the net. Do I have a chance for a night? I understand.
Starting point is 00:23:45 Well, I appreciate the call. By the way, shout out there in the back. We have Natalie, I think, is her name. It is her bachelor. This was their Bachelorette Party weekend, and they are playing in the screen. and she is wearing her veil while she plays in the scramble today, Drew. I have to say that's, yeah, everybody should applaud that. I don't think I've ever seen that before at a scramble.
Starting point is 00:24:08 I saw the pull up earlier. I thought, are we really having a bachelorette party at Woods and Ben, KSR scramble? That's exactly what we're doing. That's right. They say they're coming to win, too. All right. Well, listen, we've only once, I think, had an all women's team in this, and they are an all women's team, and they're coming to try to win the thing.
Starting point is 00:24:24 So we'll see what happens. Who's up next? Poe. Poe. How are you, Poe? I'm doing good. I hope you guys are all right. That we are.
Starting point is 00:24:33 Good. I've got two things to say, and they kind of link together. Kentucky should be proud, first of all, playing so hard and coming so close. And also the game before shows that the South Carolina game, you know, South Carolina is pretty good, too. Yeah, no, South Carolina is better than we thought. We still shouldn't have lost 31 to 6, and we still should have beaten them on our home field. But you're right. They did show against LSU that they're probably better than we thought they were before we played them.
Starting point is 00:25:09 Yeah. But teams like South Carolina and Kentucky, just certain teams and programs have to learn how to win big games. And that's hard. LSU knows how to do it. Georgia knows how to do it, Alabama, all these teams. but I agree with you on the fourth and eight and this is what my point is they're playing not to lose
Starting point is 00:25:31 I agree I totally agree and I appreciate the call my most my only complaints generally speaking about Mark Stoop's teams are time management and the risk factor when you have to go win the game I think those are two things that have plagued him over the course of his career
Starting point is 00:25:51 They are bad at time management. They've never tried to get better. They've never brought in someone who understands the clock, and that's always driven me nuts. And then I'm all for conservative play. That's how Mark Stubbs plays. It's how he knows. But you have to know, Drew, that sometimes there's a moment you have to hit the gas,
Starting point is 00:26:13 and sometimes they just don't do it. Yeah, it's like he has more trust in his defense than his offense most years. Showed it on a fourth and eight. They didn't seem to trust him to go out and get eight yards. I'll add, which was a complaint that I already mentioned in the first half of the show, never loved Mark Stoops at the end of a half. Never, he's never been good at it. How many times have we seen Kentucky give up a touchdown?
Starting point is 00:26:32 Never been good at it. Just to get to the locker room. And I thought that came back to bite him a little bit on Saturday, too. The time management part, because to me, that's the most easily fixable. Just go get a kid who knows math. Just do that. Just go get a kid who knows math and let him stand there. and tell you the math. That's it. And they just never do it. I think every football staff needs
Starting point is 00:26:55 a Madden kid. You played thousands of football games, at least with the clock. That's not crazy. They've played out so many scenarios. It's just math. Just go get the math guy. I think it's a fair criticism. And like I think it was Craig, our caller earlier said, there are times you have to need to seize the moment. And that was a moment that doesn't come around very often for many football teams where you've got a chance to beat Georgia. And again, it's not a big deal. But that moment I talked. about with 208 and the two minute warning. The old school football mentality was let it go to the two minute warning. Not so much in college, but in the NFL. But anyone who has studied analytics and numbers says call the timeout before the two minute warning so that you get two and they didn't do it. And it cost them eight seconds. Do we win? No. But here's what's it. We might have gotten one more playoff. We might have gotten one more playoff and then who knows. Who's next? Let's go to Lance.
Starting point is 00:27:52 Lance, go ahead, Lance. Hey, guys. First, you know, I didn't get on stoops on the part. I agreed with Billy in the Post-game show. The biggest problem was when we quit running the ball on the last drive. I mean, you're getting three to four yards of run. Georgia showed that these defensive line couldn't stop Jimmy late. So that frustrated me.
Starting point is 00:28:17 But what really made me mad, and I don't. don't want to blame it all on the officials. But that interception that was overturned, if he would have maintained possession, they called that a catch every time. But remember, but remember if it's a catch, he's down. No, and that, what I was saying, he would have been down. And so it's still frustrated me how quick I felt that call was. And I don't know, I don't know if people feel this way or see it.
Starting point is 00:28:48 but I feel like when you're playing a Georgia or in Alabama, and the SEC can keep them undefeated to save that money to get in the playoff, you've got to be 14 points better or you're not getting that win. There's anything that's questionable. It goes the other way. I mean, I know what you're saying, but in today's world, even if Georgia lost, they wouldn't have been out of the playoff. I mean, you can probably lose two or three games and still be in.
Starting point is 00:29:12 We'll take a break and be right back here. It's KSR Golf Scramble. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome to out. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Starting point is 00:29:25 Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. Everybody's serving a little Red State barbecue for lunch, and I'll tell you, Red State barbecue has been giving quality smoked meat to Central Kentucky for nearly 14 years. I remember when they opened the place. It was right when KSR started. Seven days a week and enjoyed brisket,
Starting point is 00:29:42 pulled pork, pulled chicken. And, of course, they're one of the kinds smoked and flash fried wings. And on Sundays, they have prime rib. Red State barbecue. It's out on Georgetown Road. I pass it when I go to Georgetown College to teach. And I always say, man, that is so good.
Starting point is 00:29:57 Eat there often. Red State barbecue. If you've never tried it, you definitely should. We were just talking during the break, right? We've had such bad luck on fumbles. Three fumbles against South Carolina, all of which bounced right in their hands. And then Georgia had three fumbles, all of which they recovered.
Starting point is 00:30:13 It's six fumbles in two weeks. we haven't gotten one of them. The one fumble that happened like when Derek Jackson was standing right there and kind of was complaining at the official, and not only did the fumble, did George recover it, they recovered it for a first down. It rolled forward and they got it, recovered it, and got a first down out of it when Derek Jackson was standing really right there and could have maybe fallen on it. Some of it's been bad luck, but if I can be critical, they've also quit on a few plays
Starting point is 00:30:38 and not gone to the whistle, especially in South Carolina, where they kind of didn't realize the ball was on the ground, they're already looking at the sideline. you got to keep playing until you know the play's dead. But they've had bad luck, too. Been a lot of fumbles in the last couple games. There were a lot of fumbles. They're creating the turnovers. They are.
Starting point is 00:30:54 They're just not, you know, the math suggests that the offense recovers a fumble about 55% of the time, and we've gotten zero of six. So, like, 45%, you'd think we'd at least get one or two, and we haven't gotten any of them. I didn't think there was any way you could play Georgia within a point and them not have a turnover. Because even when you've played them close the last couple of years, they've had four turnovers in a loss.
Starting point is 00:31:19 Yeah, they almost lost. They've turned it over several times in the games that have been close in the Stoops era, but to have zero turnovers and it still be the way it went, showed that Kentucky just lined up and went at them toe to toe. The last time they've had a really close call against a team that wasn't that good was at Missouri two years ago, and I think Missouri recovered four turnovers from Georgia, and we were right there and we didn't have any.
Starting point is 00:31:43 to recover. Who's next? Let's go to Clay. Clay. How are you, Clay? What's up, guys? What's going on? If I have two things, this is for Drew. Drew, I'm the one you, on the rapid reactions to South Carolina game. I was the one that told you
Starting point is 00:31:59 we're going 11 and 1 and all the Debbie Downers and all the haters didn't believe it, you know. You shot your shot. You almost called it. I think we're the best team in the nation still. We got absolutely sold. My dad's on that. My dad's the team in the nation. You think we're the best team in the nation?
Starting point is 00:32:20 Yeah, I still do. Okay. He said he talked to the head ref and the refs said the pickshakes should have stood. I mean, I think it's ridiculous. And then my other thing is, uh, I like the confidence. I was, I was sitting in about sex and seven and, uh, there was about three minutes left. And there was fans leaving. I think it's unacceptable.
Starting point is 00:32:42 I mean Yeah, he shouldn't have left for three minutes. He's leaving early. Lucky even said that to me. It's like, why are people leaving? I don't understand that. I will say, even after the fourth and eight, you still had a shot. I mean, if we had stopped them three and out, we still have a decent shot.
Starting point is 00:32:58 We did not. But I do not understand how you would leave with three minutes to go. Oh, it needs to be much better. I expect the Ohio game to be sold out and fans to not leave. I mean, if you're going to leave, just tailgate. Just tailgate. I appreciate it. I love your confidence.
Starting point is 00:33:14 Okay, I gave you like five. I love the confidence, though, they're right. There were some early exits, though. We noticed that in real time. I mean, it's unlikely Kentucky wins, but I wouldn't be leaving. It's disappointing because that crowd was so good all night long and so loud to see a couple of them bail out there at the end. Well, let me say this to the crowd.
Starting point is 00:33:32 If you went to that game, I can't remember the last time Kroger Field looked better on television and more. excited than it did say. I mean, you have to go back. I don't know when the last one is, I would say. But from start to finish, I cannot remember watching a game and going, man, Krogerfield looks lit right now. Like I can't remember, Drew, one that looked better. Yeah, and I think the lights went a long way, too. You know, they didn't really get to use them against Southern Miss because it was the, you know, the lightning delays, South Carolina afternoon game. I think the new light show really added to the atmosphere,
Starting point is 00:34:10 because you can make it completely dark in there and now we just get everyone fired up. The Tim Couch towels they gave away. That guy added to it. Everybody waving those. It really was a special night that just came up just a little short of the end. There are moments, you know, I can name Stevie Got Loose, you know, the Bud Dupree play that one time and all the moments where the place went nuts.
Starting point is 00:34:31 But, I mean, I can't remember a game that from start to finish was like that. And I was jealous. You know, I was in, I was at ESP. PN when we beat Florida for the first time. And then I was like, if they win this and I'm not there, that would have, that one would have heard a little bit. Who's up next? Let's go to Jessica.
Starting point is 00:34:51 Jessica. How are you, Jessica? I'm doing good. First time, long time. Who was? So two things. We, me and my good friend Angie, the year that John Wall first came to madness, we were there in the audience.
Starting point is 00:35:10 we left and you were trying to get a cab and I was a long time ago if I was getting a cab. It was. There was a yellow cab in front of it. And I said, aren't you going? I said, aren't you going to Louisville? We can take you back because we're from Louisville. And you said, oh, no, no, no. But me and my girl, we are just about fanned out thinking we could drive Matt Jones back to Louisville that night.
Starting point is 00:35:38 We actually ended up hitchhiking. in that night. So it would have been good. No, I did. And so the other, my second thing, I love all of the music that you always play and all the artists. But I was wondering if you had ever heard of Stephen Wilson, Jr.
Starting point is 00:35:56 I have not, no. Wasn't he our quarterback a few years ago? He wrote a lot of songs for a long time and now all of a sudden he's got an album out. But if anybody listen to this song, I promise they love it, and it makes me think of you guys a lot, too. It's called 1994, or just 94.
Starting point is 00:36:18 And I'll look it up. Yeah, it's a great song, and I just wanted to share that with you because you play all the game. Well, thank you very much. I will look it up on my drive home. I appreciate the call, and thanks for offering me a ride in 2000. I guess if it was 2000, John Wall, it had been 2009. There weren't. Appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:36:38 That was for Uber. Yeah, maybe that was. pre-Uber. Shannon, speaking of music, why did Jane's addiction get in a fight on stage? That was wild. That was one of the craziest ending to do a concert I've ever seen. I don't know what was it with Perry Farrell, but he wasn't happy with... I mean, have you ever heard of that?
Starting point is 00:36:56 A lead singer and a guitar player getting in a fight on stage, two guys in the same band? I'm sure it's happened before, but I haven't seen one like that. I mean, we got to work on Perry Farrell's right hook. That wasn't very strong. That looked like a week. That was wild. That was wild. They said the, uh, playing guitar too loud.
Starting point is 00:37:13 I read fans in the front, where, row were yelling, we can't hear you sing, so he got mad at the band for playing too loud. That's on the sound guy, though. That's not a guitar. What does that mean playing the guitar too loud?
Starting point is 00:37:23 So are they like quitting? Or do they just going to go back at it? They, they canceled the next gig, and they're on tour. So I don't know that they're going to continue that tour. I don't know that they're quitting as a game. Well, I will say this.
Starting point is 00:37:33 If they decide to keep going, this is great publicity. I haven't thought of Jane's addiction in 20 years. and now I've seen him fight. You watched a couple of years ago. Oh, well, I didn't remember it well. That's right. They weren't larger than life, right before Metallica.
Starting point is 00:37:47 Now that you say that, I do remember that. Who's next? Chuck. Chuck. Well, you know, that was the first time I'd been out of the house. All right, go ahead, Chuck. Hey, Matt, I appreciate to taking my call. I've got a theory for you.
Starting point is 00:38:01 I've been talking about this play over and over and over my head, like you've been talking on the show. I knew it'd be up. But the interception, my theory is, they call it it the, first of all, they called it a catch and pick six on the field, right? Yes. All right. If they do that and they go to, they ship it to New York or wherever they did,
Starting point is 00:38:22 they should come back and say, well, they got this completion of the catch. Well, the guy had control of the ball when he went down and touched the ball, but ground can't cause a fumble. He's complete making a football move when he's turning over on his back. our defender just happened to complete the rest of the kids, right? Yeah, but again, it's college football. So if he caught it, he's down. If it's the NFL, then our argument's a lot stronger
Starting point is 00:38:49 because he wouldn't have been touched, but if it's college and he caught it, he's down. So that's why, I mean, I hate to, I wanted it to be a pick six. I just don't see the scenario where it was a pick six, you know? I'll say since they called it on the field as that as being grounds to maybe keep it. Well, that's the best argument for it, and I appreciate the call. The best argument, Drew, is, well, we're not clear, so we just go with what's on the field. That's where I am.
Starting point is 00:39:19 I mean, you've got to have the inclusive evidence to turn it over, and even though it's hard to imagine that scenario, it's kind of hand and ball when it shoots straight up in the air, so I was hoping they would just stick with their original decision. Still would have been nice. You could have given us a break? Like, if I put George on the ropes, let them try to go and do something, right? When does Kentucky football get a break, man? Give us a break.
Starting point is 00:39:37 Give us a break. I think we should. That should be a rule. Once a year, give Kentucky a break. All right, do it for them. Who's next? Casey. Casey, how are you, Casey?
Starting point is 00:39:46 859, 280, 2287. Hey, good morning, fellas. So I had two quick things. I can't catching myself during the game, not enjoying it because I was so nervous that it was going to turn. And the wheels were just going to fall off. So I don't know if anybody else experienced. Yeah, I actually was the opposite.
Starting point is 00:40:03 because I was very nervous during the South Carolina. I actually was the opposite. I didn't think we had any chance of winning. So, like, it made it to where I actually didn't feel nerves until the moment that I actually thought we could win, and then I started getting nervous. I just kept waiting for them to run all over it. So I'm really proud of our guys,
Starting point is 00:40:23 and what I was most impressed with was the middle eight. Freddie always talks about that middle eight, and we were so disciplined and zoned in and that middle eight I felt like. Yeah, but we did. Thank you, guys. Yeah, I appreciate the call. That was, however, I mean, wasn't it the middle eight where we fumbled or no? Or was it right before the middle eight?
Starting point is 00:40:41 Was it right before the middle of the second quarter? Well, you know, I mean, again, I didn't have a problem with them not taking a shot. Ryan, you were telling me Greg McElroy had a problem with it. That was one of his big critical comments he made, I think, during the broadcast, that there was nine seconds on the clock. Why not take one shot at the end zone? Because you still got plenty of time to get the field goal unit out there, throw a jump ball today, maybe you get a P.I.
Starting point is 00:41:02 and then you got a shorter field goal attempt, something that they just stood taking advantage. They could have been in a bigger hurry even before they got to the time. See, that's my thing. Okay, again, back to clock management. That whole drive, they were not in a hurry. It was almost to me like the whole drive that we were playing for the field goal. And it's like, dude, how many times are we going to be in the red zone? It's probably not going to be a lot.
Starting point is 00:41:25 Let's go. This is Georgia, man. You got to take advantage of it. And I know it's nice to have the photo that you're up at halftime, but three to three, six to three. Let's take a shot. Let's try to stretch this out and land a punch on Georgia. Hey, if you're looking for new furniture appliances or beds, how about P-Rats? They give you more.

This is before they fight. Been caught fighting, Shannon, on stage. So are you going to all of Bourbon and Beyond this weekend?
Starting point is 00:46:56 Are you going to be out there? I will be there for all four days of that and all four days of louder than life. So eight out of 11 days I will be out there. That's wild. And you're going to go and you're going to go to my Reds Braves. tickets once too right yeah Wednesday I appreciate the tickets yeah so you're gonna you're gonna have three you're gonna have a you're never gonna be home but wait do you think anybody will fight at bourbon beyond is like Zach Brian punches guitar player in the face or something there's a good chance
Starting point is 00:47:21 Dave Matthews goes over and puts somebody in the face yeah he's too high he's not gonna he's not gonna punch you buddy so who all's playing you got Tyler Childers Zach Brian Dave Matthews Beck who else match box 20 sting is the other headliner That's a pretty amazing group of people to be part of one festival, isn't it? There's a ton of of all my morning jackets on there. Okay. About Lahl Lovett, the Beach Boys? Wait a minute.
Starting point is 00:47:46 What night is Lyle Lovett? I love Lyle Lovett. I don't know what day, but... Dude, I love Lyle Lov, and I can't see him play in a festival, but I think that would be awesome. I've said this before, but when I worked at Malone's, I waited on Lill Lovett, one of the nicest people that's walked this earth. That's nice. Sometimes there's celebrities know how they're going to be.
Starting point is 00:48:04 Unbelievable. I mean, he had to have gotten Julian. Robert somehow it wasn't on appearance so i guess being nice was probably part of uh part of how he made it happen 859 280 2287 who's up next let's go to sean sean what's up Sean what's up Sean hey guys breaking news i was on instagram when you were talking about jane's addiction hot off the press dave navarro is the guitarist the tour will be canceled due to the health difficulties of our singer perry farrell we have come to the conclusion to cancel the remaining of the dude that's like they could have really they could have really capitalized on this and now well
Starting point is 00:48:42 they must be something going on with bad shape yeah hey man real quick though your buddy your buddy maryland manson shannon pull it up he's been in a fight with his guitars on stage that doesn't surprise having sat next to him on an airplane i can i almost fought him and we only went 45 minutes so uh yeah i appreciate the call that's what i mean i know we've talked about at it before, but sitting with Marilyn Manson, middle seat between me and Drew is top three weirdest things of my life. He never stopped talking. He never shut up.
Starting point is 00:49:18 I mean, never shut up. It's still, don't you think that's the weirdest thing? I have selfies where we're sticking straws in our nose. I don't even know why, but he's like, let's just do this. An empty plane, Ryan, the plane is empty. Drew and I intentionally on Southwest sit to where there's an open middle seat thinking like, well, nobody will sit there. We stretched our legs out.
Starting point is 00:49:37 So we can stretch our legs. And he walks on the plane. Nobody else is there. And he chooses to sit middle seat in between the two of us. He was with his fiance and said, I'm going to sit with these two. And she's like, well, I'm going to sit. And she's like his fiancé. Unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:49:49 That was such a weird thing. We should have him on the show soon. Yeah, I don't know. Who's up next? Dalton. Dalton. Go ahead, Dalton. All right.
Starting point is 00:49:58 I got two things, the kicker and time management. And we talk about the decision not to go for it in the punt. And then the, uh, not having enough time or not taking a shot at the end of the first half. Well, both of those situations are directly derived from what happened before. In the second half, you've got a DSK that is running it over NFL players all the way down the field, and then on second and eight, you try to pass it. The reason you're going for it or punting it for than eight is because how you played up until there and the decision we get that.
Starting point is 00:50:31 I agree with that, but as I said, I think you're totally right. but I would say if you go back and watch the video of the second and eight, he designed a good play. If Brock had had a millisecond more, that is maybe a touchdown. So while I agree with you, his second down play, you know,
Starting point is 00:50:55 I'm not trying to be Shannon Dawson if it'll work, you'd have loved it, but there was a little bit of that. That's exactly what I was going to say. But you're putting your face in a quarterback that's play. in his second S&D game opposed to the S-K. I actually don't think it was his fault, though, that pass. I think that pass was probably on the line.
Starting point is 00:51:11 But go ahead. And about the kicker. So I'm pretty sure Alex Rainer's right leg has scored more points on Georgia than both of the teams they played before, twice as many points than those two teams. I guess it's probably right. That's a fact. That's a good call.
Starting point is 00:51:28 They were talking towards the end of the game where we might have to kick a game-winning field goal. They were saying, you know, this other guy, They say he can boot it in practice, but he's all over the place. But he can get 70 yards. If I'm Alex Raynor, I've scored all 12 points on Georgia, Mark Smith. I set two records in this game, and you're going to give it to this kid. Let me tell you something.
Starting point is 00:51:47 If they had gone out there, and I appreciate the call, I don't care if it was 58 yards. If they had gone out there for a game-winning kick and sit someone else out there, might have been a mutiny. And then he missed it. We would all. Yeah, I think they would have had to give Raynor the chance. Drew either way. Absolutely. I mean, the ones he made to that point, four of them. By the way, Kentucky's four times better than Clemson. Clemson scored three. That's right.
Starting point is 00:52:12 You would have to give Raynor than another. Court.com. That's K-O-R-T.com. If you need physical therapy, they've helped Ryan. They'll help you if you have any. You're feeling better, aren't you? Thanks to court. Absolutely. That's exactly right. They'll help you get off your, get your pain out of the way, get you back up and working. They take almost all health insurance. It's at court.com. You do not need a doctor's referral. locations all over the state. If you are in pain, call court. That is k-o-r-r-t.com.
Starting point is 00:52:41 Looking forward to this scramble today. I'll be on 18 with Ryan and Mario all day, not going to play.
