Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Welcome, everyone. This is Kentucky Sports Radio Wednesday, September the 18th. I am Matt Jones here on again.
An absolutely perfect day. Can't ask for a more perfect day than what you have outside. It is beautiful.
and you can give a shout.
Well, here's the thing.
I want people to call a little differently today.
All right.
What you got?
All right.
Well, first of all, Clark's puppet shop phone lines 859-280-2287.
A Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-7-7-4-5-254.
This is sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office, you call T.J. I'm making pay.
I got Judge Yokem here from Bell County in town.
I think it was partially Wings Day, but also I think he wanted to come by and say hello.
We were talking before the show, Ryan, I watched the 2010 John Wall team play in that tournament in Cancun where they played it in a ballroom.
Do you remember that?
Oh, it was literally a ballroom that they put a basketball court in there.
I watched that game in his house because in Middlesbrough, they didn't get ESPNU on cable, which is what my parents had.
There was no streaming yet.
He had a satellite.
He had direct TV or whatever at his house.
and I went to his house.
The game was like at 10 o'clock.
I think we played, I'm not, Stanford?
Does that sound right?
Correct.
I have the answers.
Okay.
There were two games.
We played Stanford.
Is the other one Virginia?
No.
It is Ohio school.
Oh.
Dayton?
Cleveland State.
Cleveland State.
Wow.
But we played Stanford in the finals.
And it was like during Thanksgiving break.
Yeah.
And I was in Middlesboro.
and I couldn't see it.
And so I went to his house and I watched the games.
You remember they played.
You could see the chandeliers.
Yes.
From the game.
That has to be one of the weirdest games Kentucky ever played.
You could literally see the chandeliers from the sea.
At the Moon Palace Resort.
Moon Palace Resort.
Do you remember it was so wild it even went to overtime?
It did.
And I remember the people that went there was a bar.
You could see the bar on the baseline.
So while you were watching the game, you could see people like.
lined up for drinks on the bar on the baseline.
For those of you that are too young to remember this, it was ridiculous.
It was a basketball game, and it was John Wall in a ballroom.
Like you said, this wasn't the big tournament they have in Cancun every year.
This is the one down the street around the corner.
This is one Billy got an all-inclusive deal on where you could drink for free,
and that's why they played there.
Billy used points to get us there.
Billy Gillespie used his points.
It didn't have a bar you'd have like at a wedding reception just over in the corner.
It was like the Harper.
hall bar. It was people in black and they were just hand they were handing out you know.
You tell the story you said when the judge was trying to rewind it to see some. Yeah. So he was
during the game, you know, it was his TV. But you know, Drew, I don't do good at giving
other people their remotes at their house for television. You probably hit it with my man.
I think I did. He tried to rewind it and I said, I'm doing the live blog, man. I got to stay live. He
remembers that. So it's nice. That was a good, a good time when you didn't have the whatever
the cable company is in Middlesbril.
did not have ESPNU.
A weird moment in you
in John Colaparian history to go play
at that game. That was one of his first games.
It was the first month. It was on the job.
And I remember when it was over, he said I want to
thank, I'm sorry, my voice.
It's going in and out. I want
to thank the people here. We probably
won't play this in this again. He was
like very clear, we won't do anything like
this again. Schedule tells me it was on back-to-back
nights, too. Didn't even get a
pool day there at the moon palace.
It was like a Friday Saturday or something.
than during Thanksgiving break.
But the game you were at his house, you said it was at 10 o'clock.
I can remember seeing some video of the arena,
but I don't remember anything about those games.
Nothing.
Well, I remember it was against Stanford,
and I also remember it sounds like the fire alarms going off,
which is nice.
Somebody open that back door back there.
Don't not open the back door.
They do that sometimes.
Mario will take care of it.
859-280-2287.
A-Vision Auto Glass Text Machine.
Now, here's what I want people to do.
Okay, what is this?
people who either call or who write.
What you got?
Very simple.
Your job is to tell us if you pick the topic because I want today to be all positive.
Okay.
You know, we had last week, which was very negative after the South Carolina game,
then Monday and Tuesday, there's still people.
Should we have gone for it?
Should we not?
Was it an interception?
Was it not?
And you just ended up with a lot of sort of, you know, disagree.
Today, your job is to keep me all positive.
Okay, I'm going to keep you all positive.
And people can pick the topic.
All right, we can take a break from the normal topics.
People can pick the topic.
Maybe one of them is, can we turn this fire alarm off?
We'll be positive.
See, this is a tough way to get me started positive when the fire alarm is going off, right?
Mario's on it.
Just give him just a minute.
We'll have that thing shut off for you.
Mario, did you get it fixed?
You did.
It's still on.
We get a two thumbs up, but it's still going.
A two thumbs up, but the alarm is still on.
It's a little distracting.
That's all right.
But I trust Mario to get it done.
Mario does everything.
There's positive for you.
All the TVs are working in here right now.
There is.
That's exactly right.
And it's Wings Day, dollar wings all day.
Come see us at lunch.
Join us and Judge Yocum.
All right.
So I'm going to give you a couple of, to get this started.
Get it started.
Either text machine or calls, I'm going to give you a couple topics that people wrote in actually.
Actually last night or the last couple days, all right?
One person said, Matt, I'd like to know.
of the Power 4 conference program.
So we're talking SEC, Big 10, ACC, Big 12.
Which team would the four of you least want to be the fan of?
Okay.
If you had to pick of the power programs, who would you least want to be a fan of?
Now, I would suggest you need to consider football, basketball,
and let's even throw in like baseball and women's basketball,
because there might be teams like, like Vandy, for instance, that aren't good at one,
but you could win the national championship in baseball.
So which would you least want to be a fan of?
Ryan, I'll let you go first.
What comes to your mind is the team you'd least want to be a fan of?
The first two came to my head, the first one was Purdue.
You know what?
That's funny.
That was one of the ones I was considering.
Why would you not want to be?
Besides the fact you don't like.
You can't just use I don't like them because I was an Indiana fan.
What is it?
I think it's just because they're, they, they, they, they,
They did have some success with Zach Edy, but they always seemed to choke.
They always seemed to not in basketball, which is probably their best sport.
The other sports, football, baseball, I don't think they come amount to anything.
You think the fact they choke?
It's actually, Drew and I've been there.
I believe it is a 47 to one male to female ratio at that school.
Purdue, if we called it.
Yeah, we called it Purdue, because the whole time we were on campus, we only saw guys everywhere.
Yeah.
So that's one of mine.
All right, what about you?
I don't want to offend Ryan Lemon here, but Indiana came to mind pretty quickly.
I mean, football doesn't really exist.
I guess they've had a few good seasons recently, but overall, Indiana doesn't really have football even though they're playing it.
Basketball, you got your grandparents and your parents telling you how awesome it is, but you're just not seeing it in front of you.
You're going to school and it's not happening.
It's like the Sopranos.
You're sitting there thinking the mafia used to be cool and now we're out here doing this.
You're hearing about how awesome it is, but now you're a fan and you're a fan and you're not.
you're just not seeing it.
That's right.
Wilmington.
Yeah.
Wilmington's all right, but it's not going.
I pass through.
There's a chicken place that's pretty good.
What's that?
Kill gores or something?
Yes.
Kill a right experience.
But, you know, I just not seen a lot of success in the two major sports.
All right.
Shannon, what about you?
Indiana's a good one.
I would probably go Nebraska.
Okay.
I like that.
You'd have to live in Nebraska.
That's a huge one.
They used to be good at football, but now they're just not really good at anything.
They might be good this year, though.
I think their schedule is opened up.
They could go slightly back.
Nebraska could go 9 and 0 to start the season if you look at their schedule.
Yeah, still I think I would pick them.
If not Nebraska, like my 1A would probably be Minnesota.
It's cold.
That's a good one.
It's cold.
They're not really good at anything either.
Yeah, Minnesota.
All right.
So mine is in the same ballpark, Boston College.
I take another good one.
Because not only are you not good at anything.
I mean, I know they beat Florida State.
floor states now oh and three you're not good at football when's the last time they've been good
at basketball i mean tell me the last basket what was the redhead no he was what was a redheaded
kid's name didn't they have a redhead maybe i don't know i mean name me name me the last boston
college basketball player of significance i can't even think of one and i can think of one for almost
every school yep dana barros did he go there didn't bruce pearl play there that's not one i would put
I can't think of one, all right?
I don't even know if they have a baseball team,
and then I've never heard of their women's basketball team.
The other thing is you're in Boston,
and everybody cares about everything except Boston College.
They care about the Red Sox,
they care about the Patriots,
care about the Celtics, care about the Bruins.
And those teams all win.
Those teams have all won tons of titles.
So no one, no one cares about Boston College.
So I'm going to say Boston College.
We got some good ones.
That's a pretty good list to get started.
I considered Boston College and Rutgers,
but then I thought,
Well, I could do other things in the area.
Well, yeah.
But if it's just focused on your team, I agree with that one.
So we have Indiana, Purdue, Nebraska, and Boston College as our first round picks.
My second one I thought of at the beginning was NC State.
But they just went to the Final Four.
They did.
They just went to the Final Four.
But they're kind of lost in the shelf.
And I would Duke and North Carolina.
But that's why you liked them because nobody else liked them.
And they're actually for a team that didn't until,
last year didn't win in a long time.
They actually have a large fan base.
I mean, they, basically, you go Raleigh East.
Those people are all NC State fans.
And a lot of, you know, North Carolina has a lot of, like, rural African Americans, and they love,
I mean, that's NC State is their team.
So they, they, they actually, I don't, I think NC State's almost an underrated fan base.
If not for you, including baseball, I have Mississippi State high on the list.
Now, Startville was just named.
by USA Today, the best small town to live in in America.
What?
Canceled USA Today.
We went from Barnstown, Kentucky to Starkville.
Yeah.
When's last time you've seen a USA Today, by the way?
Like with the color and the actual.
That time we went to the USA Today conference in Vegas.
I might have seen one somewhere.
They don't even leave one outside your hotel door anymore.
Yeah.
So you're no on Star.
I think they're in the conversation.
You know, football, they'll have a one.
off here every once in a while basketball not much starkville is starkville yeah but they got they got
baseball going and their little park with their athletic complex they do i mean they get like the second or third
highest attendance in baseball oh yeah and their campus right there is nice i'll give them credit for that
yeah well 859 2807 20287 the text machine is 772 7752524 i need you to update me on something
drew because i don't understand i got you what is happening with these top recruits a caden
All right.
Caden Lewis and Caleb Wilson, for people who don't know, two of the top basketball recruits in America.
And it seems like on Twitter, they're all like saying we're coming to Kentucky, but I never know what to believe on those kind of things.
What's the other thing?
I got you.
I'm actually, for the first time and a long time, I'm a little hip on what the kids are doing on social media.
I'm glad to hear it.
So Caleb Wilson was on campus.
Caleb Wilson, what, where's, this is all kids in next year's class, right?
Yes.
Okay.
Potential additions with Marino and Jasper.
Johnson.
Okay.
He's like number two or three power forward five star.
Really want this guy.
While he was on campus and joined his time, got a picture with the gold medal, did
some photo shoots.
I saw that.
A great visit last weekend.
Caden Lewis isn't, wasn't here, but he announced his top four wherever he was.
And Caleb replied something like.
And one of them was Kentucky.
Yes.
And Caleb Wilson replied something like, come on over, bro.
While he was in Lexington, kind of implying, you know, come on over would kind of mean come to
where I am, perhaps.
Do you mean like come to where I am right now?
Maybe.
Maybe.
I mean, they're both considering UK.
Okay.
It's one of the only schools, if maybe not the only one.
They're both considering.
Is that all we're going on?
No, then Akkad and Lewis post a highlight video or no, excuse me, Caleb Wilson
post his recruiting recap.
And Akaden Lewis writes in the comments, I want to play with this guy.
And then Jasper Johnson has tweeted about them twice and retweeted a big three meme.
So there's a lot of public flirtation between these, uh, interesting.
five blue chips. Now, if they got all those guys, that'd be the number one or two
class in the country. Oh, yeah. Mark Pope could tell everyone to eat it if his first class had
four five-star prospects in the year. So there you go. That's where we're caught up. Do you make any of
that, like, do you think any of this is real? Like, does it matter? Well, even by themselves,
not the social media stuff they just did. They're both very high on Kentucky. Lewis is a point guard,
kind of has said he wants to play with Jasper Johnson.
Wilson's kind of considering Arkansas,
maybe a little bit of a leader,
but very high on Kentucky too.
So then when you just package it all together
and all this tweeting and DM and meming,
it's got us pretty excited.
Memean.
All right, I got you.
So there you go.
That's my report on what is happening with high school kids.
One person writes, tell Shannon to hush.
Minnesota has won the NCAA hockey tournament 41 times.
He doesn't know what he's talking.
And guess what?
Nobody cares.
Nobody cares.
That's exactly right.
8-9-28.
2287. What is your topic you want done today? We'll take a break. Be right back here at KS Park.

don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect.
We were God's chosen kingdom on earth.
He felt destined for greatness.
So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back.
Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey.
I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I'm
ever come across. When Jacob met Levin this plant to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings

investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me?
Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the I-Heart radio app,

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all,
embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

Life throws hurdles big and small.
The question is, how do you conquer them?
On Hurtle with Emily Abadi,
we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness,
professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions,
to talk about the challenges that shaped them
and the mindset that keeps them going.
From the WNBA standout, Kate Martin,
and rising hockey star Laila Edwards.
If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can.
can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in
spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel on. Don't let that
be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs, Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeke. The ability to show
gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me.
And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like,
being able to fail in front of the entire world, like, I can do anything. I can do anything. I can do
anything because resilience isn't just about winning it's about showing up even when it's hard listen
to hurdle with emily abody on the iHeart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts
presented by capital one founding partner of i heart women's sports jared dudley that's a boston
college basketball player i don't know how i couldn't think of that uh apparently nebrate nc state
drew went to the final four in men's women's and the college world series last year
Wow.
So probably would have been a good year to be in the Wolfpack.
Is that yours, Ryan?
That was about like one hour.
You want to root for a loser?
Yeah.
Yeah.
So don't necessarily know that.
859-28027.
One person writes, Matt, I saw you stop in Indiana on your way to Chicago,
and I looked to see what snack you would get.
See, and by now are people looking even in Indiana what snack?
Yep.
If you didn't get one, I thought you said you couldn't go at.
anywhere without a snack.
It is hard for me when I stop at a gas station to not get a snack.
Very, very hard.
But we were in the car a long time, and if I just ate snacks the whole time, you're going
to end up getting huge.
And so I didn't do that.
But I do think at Indiana on the way there, I did get Oreos.
I think you missed out.
I think you missed it, sir.
I think I might have gotten there.
What is there?
Something about that guilty pleasure of eating a snack while you're driving in the car.
It's just all right.
It's not guilty.
pleasure. It's bored of me. Like you act like it's naughty or something. Were you,
yeah, you get scolded for it or as a kid? I don't have snacks any other time, but I'm in the car
when our road trips. We stop somewhere. I want to get a little. I did have to drink. So I went to
get a Coke Zero yesterday and I went to the thing and they were out. And the only Coke Zero is that
new thing they have, the Oreo. Coke Zero. Have you seen that? And that sounds gross to me. Doesn't
it you? It just seems like two flavors that it just didn't consider my mind put them together. I told
agree with you it sounds like peanut butter orange juice or something like i don't understand why you
would put those two things together so did you try it well there wasn't any other coke zero and so i got
it and it tastes like oreos does it but it's not bad i don't think it's very sweet it's almost
sweeter than a regular uh-huh uh so i don't think i could want to drink it a lot but it's not as bad
as I thought it would be.
So it seems like it'd be a dessert.
It's like drinking an Oreo?
No, it's not thick or anything.
Well, I know it's not a milkshake, but it's like so sweet that it's...
It's a little sweet, but you, it definitely, I thought, how can they make a drink that
tastes like an Oreo?
It tastes like an Oreo.
Makes me want to try it.
Okay, exactly.
It is for people like you to be able to do.
859-280-2287.
Who's up first?
Steve.
Steve.
How are you, Steve?
I'm doing fine, Matt.
I love the show.
Thank you.
I've talked to you several times in the past,
and I don't really think you like me very much.
But listen to the people.
I don't know.
Of course I like you.
Why would I not like you?
He was just talking about how much you like you.
I literally, I literally, of course I like you.
But go ahead.
Now, now, now.
Come on.
Anyway, Matt, the way you handled this whole situation with Cal Perry.
I mean, you're handling it.
perfectly. You articulated the Big Blue Nation's concerns and you did it without being
judgmental or hateful or anything else. In my opinion, to me, you have just moved up 10,000
percent in my estimation. And for that, I want to thank you. Well, that's very nice of you. I don't
know that everyone shared your opinion, at least if you looked on social media, but I think
probably more people shared my opinion than didn't.
And I think for the people that were kind of very pro-Cal,
I think they didn't, I always thought they underestimated how much of the fan base he had lost.
Because I think if you were online, it didn't see,
it seemed like the fan base was kind of split 50-50.
But I always thought, Ryan, in life, it was not 50-50.
That in life, more people were ready for a change than were not.
And we felt that, you know, through this show going out and talking to people, people come up and talk to us about it.
It was definitely a turn.
I mean, in the bar, in this bar, there were very few people who didn't come up and say, man, we got to.
So, so, yeah, but anyway, what else you got real quick, Steve?
Well, just, you know, when you got the standing up and way and you asked the question in Ruck Arena, I was, you know, I was jumping up and down and cheering to.
Well, thank you.
That was a neat day.
I'm not going to lie to you.
That was a very, very neat day.
God bless you, man.
Thank you.
Appreciate the call.
That was a very neat day because it did come at the culmination of a lot of criticism.
Mario had just started and we walked out.
I will say walking from my house to Ruff the day of Pope's press conference
and seeing the excitement of the fans that were waiting there on the sidewalk,
it did feel like, you know, after two days ago when people didn't even want this guy,
it now feels like everybody's in.
I still think there could be a documentary, Drew, about the Thursday night from when it was announced
until the press conference and the way the massive change in the way the fan base felt during that time.
Yeah, Twitter was ugly that Thursday night.
We wake up, we do the show.
Opinions start to change a little bit.
Mitch Barnhart gave that great interview.
But then by Sunday, I'm with you.
I walked from the other end of downtown.
Just couldn't believe my eyes walking towards Rupp Arena and how the lines on both ends of the building
were so long they met on one of the sides.
Just people trying to get inside.
I think a lot of, when we walked into that show Friday morning at that,
what was the place that in there?
The bourbon distillery.
The bourbon distillery.
When we walked in there, the fans seemed negative.
And then when we walked out, it was almost like they seemed positive.
And if you remember, during that period of time was when the announcement of the $5 million in the aisle came,
when Mitch Barnhart came on the show, when Rick Patino released.
his video. You mentioned how some people were off limits in the search that were high on a lot of
lists. That kind of helped ease some of it. I think everybody, a big change for me was when I found out
that basically the president and the board of trustees said, no Eli Cap or she cannot. You cannot
coach basketball. I was upset, Shannon, because I wanted Eli Capiluto. A lot of people did,
you know. No, no Bruce Pearl, no Sean Miller, no
Nate Oates, although he had already, I think, said no.
Chris Beard.
And no Chris Beard.
They told them those four, no.
And then once you assume those four no and that you've gotten a no from Scott Drew and Danny Hurley,
then the question is, do you want Mark Popper, do you want Shaka Smart?
And then that's a different situation, Ryan, when you're looking at it like that.
Yeah, that was such a unique morning where we were all kind of processing everything at the same time.
I do think Mitch Barnhart's interview with us help, but we had some really great callers that morning, too.
that got us a little more optimistic about this hire and going forward.
It is interesting to me.
If Eli and the university board had not said you can't talk to those,
or you can't hire those guys,
I think Bruce Pearl would have been the coach.
And then what?
You know, then what would, you know, that would be,
it's a whole different history.
And I think maybe in the moment the excitement would have been as big,
but Mark has been, Mark's done this job almost perfectly leading into the games.
Would you agree with that?
Yeah, all these questions about a staff and about a roster fulfilled that.
Now, recruiting had the questions.
The way he's interacted with the fans.
Now, the next thing is, you know what, you've got to actually go win basketball games,
which is going to be a big thing.
But when you consider where it was, when I got the phone call on Thursday night,
they were hiring Mark Pope to what it was at Sunday night,
it's amazing how quickly that changed.
It really is amazing.
We will take a break and be right back since Kentucky Sports Radio.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J., he'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio, 859, 280, 2287.
You get to pick the topic, whatever you want.
Okay.
And we'll have to go with it.
Some from the text machine.
One person writes, Matt, sounds like you guys.
Got out of your bet with Cody about the presidential race.
Do you want to bet me instead?
No, I'll continue the bet with Cody.
I'm glad to continue the bet with Cody.
Although I will say, Cody, one of your friends wrote me and said,
you don't pay up on bets.
Uh-oh, Cody.
One of your friends, Cody, said you were in the fantasy league,
and you never paid the dues last year.
Uh-oh.
And then you didn't win, and so the winner didn't get all their money.
So I'm just saying, Cody, I need verification that you.
you're a bet payer-upper before I do it.
But if you want to, the bet with Biden and Trump is void.
Biden is not running.
That's exactly how they would do it.
Yeah.
If Kentucky played Louisville and Louisville backed out,
like they did a few years ago, we had to play Western,
if you remember, the Kentucky Louisville bed is voided.
Or you can look at it like the lightning delay.
You didn't get all the way to the end of the bet.
Yes.
So now, I like that one too.
So now it's Harris.
I'll bet you again.
I'm more kind.
I would have lost the other bet.
I'm willing to say that.
But I'm going to win this bet.
So you just have to decide if you want to do it, Cody.
And also pay your fancy football dues.
You know what I mean?
Cody, if you're in paying it's fancy football,
Drew, you got to pay your dues.
I think you need proof of payment from his 2020-203 fantasy league
before you all can even consider moving forward with your bet.
Yes.
Matt, I have a good story for you.
My mom recently was watching Fox News,
and she heard something Harris was doing she didn't like and said,
I don't think I could like any Harris supporter as a friend.
And I said, Mom, you listen to Matt and those guys every day.
And she said, well, they don't count.
Actually, I think that's a compliment.
Yeah.
I think that's her, his mom's way of being nice, right?
That like, we're the one she would consider a friend.
Don't see eye to eye politically, but yet we can still have a good relationship.
And she can still listen to the show and enjoy herself.
Did you see Reggie Cottrell?
That's the kid from Harlan with the long hair, the beautiful hair from the Sweet 16 last year.
Remember his fireworks went off and took a couple of his fingers off.
Yes.
And yesterday he was back and he was dunking a basketball.
How cool is that?
Love, love, love to hear that story.
That kid is back on the court and dunking a basketball.
You know, that happened when you were gone.
We tried to get him on to talk to us, but apparently.
Apparently he is so shy he didn't want to come on the radio.
He was very shy about the attention.
Yeah.
With his hair, we wanted to have him on after Sweet 16, and he's, you know, you wouldn't
think about it with that hair.
You'd think you'd be like ready to talk, but I'm glad he's back playing basketball.
You know, that was a great story last year with Harlan going all the way to the state
finals before losing.
And it was a really sad thing that happened on the 4th of July, but glad he's back and hopefully
going to play this year.
Yeah, I mean, the family put out a statement like the next day.
day when he was still bandaged up like oh godrell be back we're not quitting anything i did two
months later it's pretty cool to see him already dunked yeah cool to see how do you like so he lost
his was it is two i think it's like his index finger and these two middle and index fingers yeah so he lost
parts of his middle and index finger and a metal rod in his thumb there for a while and he's still
going to play that that it's his non-shooting hand it was he's left hand so maybe he can still just play
right-handed well that'll be that's going to be cool to watch dude everybody in this state's going to be
pulling for that kid. I'm pulling for him.
We picked him out from the beginning.
Yep. He still should be doing
NIL shampoo,
if nothing else. Who's up next?
Nathan. Nathan. Go ahead, Nathan.
Hey, guys, I want to talk to football.
So we have
one of the best front seven
in college football who
had Carson Beck just rattled
almost the entire game. We have
no excuse for all if it's a wine
who has the opportunity to go against that front seven
every single day in practice.
to not be good at pass blocking.
I mean, they should be getting better every single day,
and they should, I mean,
who are they going to face better than Deion Walker?
I mean,
well, they're not.
But to be, in practice,
they don't usually face the number ones.
I mean, usually the number one offense is going to face the number two defense,
usually.
If our team,
if our guys are that bad at class blocking,
maybe they should be going against the ones trying to get better.
Yeah.
I mean, maybe those,
and I appreciate the call.
the rules about practice and stuff have changed a lot.
So you just don't see, you know, I don't know how much they hit in in season practice than they used to.
But the point is still valid.
I mean, you got a great defensive line on the other side of your team, and we need our offensive line to be better.
I think they were better, but they still weren't great when it came to pass blocking.
But it's so weird because they're so good run blocking.
I mean, they are like, you know, they've kind of dominated.
at a Georgia front that's got multiple guys that are going to play in the NFL.
Kind of makes Stoops comments in camp interesting when he said we have to take Dion out of practice
so the offensive line can get stuff done.
Were they that far behind?
Should he left Dion in so they could go against him?
But, you know, he did talk about how.
Yeah, he talked about how I had to pull Dion out so the line can get working.
Work done.
Maybe they should have left him in or maybe he wrecked him too bad.
Yeah.
You know, like you said, the success they had in run blocking, man, they rushed for over 200 yards
against Georgia.
I'd be curious to see if anybody else
even does that or comes close to that this season.
That was amazing that they were able to run against
guys are going to be in the NFL next year
and they got 200 rushing yards against that squad.
One person writes, Matt, last segment I heard you say
Oreo Coke Zero, I just pulled over and got one.
It does taste like an Oreo.
See, that was not lying.
It tastes like an Oreo.
You wonder, how does it drink taste like an Oreo?
It tastes like an Oreo.
Another person writes, Matt, you're not going to win that bet.
I don't know why you say you're going to win that bet.
Trump is going to win.
stop acting like he's not, you're an idiot.
Well, I mean, we're going to have a result.
There's no reason to get mad about it.
Like, nothing you say is going to change.
They're going to have it when I win 704.
See, remember when I lost in 20, no, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not betting.
Remember when I lost in 2016, what did I come on here and say?
I said he lost or she lost, wish Trump the best, blah, blah, blah.
Then in 2020, people came and screamed them.
my face and now 704 you're going to have to do it again and it's okay every four years yeah by the way
i'm not going to do this the whole time i don't actually know for sure but i do want to continue to
eat dinner at his house or whatever it is cody's house i got to make sure he pays up i heard that he
doesn't pay up on fantasy we need a receipt yes who's next adam adam go ahead adam hey first of all
the uh coke flavored oreos i don't know if you all have had those those are also pretty good
there are wait a man hang on there's coke flavored oreos
Yep.
But I don't know what that means.
Like what would the Coke flavor be?
I had a hard time wrapping my head around it too.
Well, now I got to try that.
Me too.
Just to see what that is.
What is the taste of Coke?
Is it caramel or like what is that taste supposed to be?
Yeah, that is.
What is the kind of taste of Coke?
No, but I think if you bite into it, you'll certainly know that's, okay, that tastes like Coke.
Interesting.
Well, I may have to try that just to see.
All right, go ahead.
So, yeah, I wanted to go back to Boston College basketball if we could.
This will probably exhaust my knowledge of the program.
But you guys may recall a few years ago when they got bounced from the tournament.
There was a senior player was very emotional in his postgame press conference.
He was asked what he would remember most or miss the most about his time at Boston College.
I remember what did he?
With tears in his eyes, he said going out to eat.
Yeah, he said going out to eat.
That's right.
He did say that.
You could probably pull up the clip.
Yeah, that would be fun.
Let's find that claim.
He did.
asked him what he missed most about Boston College basketball, and he said going out to eat.
He was like crushed, right?
Yeah.
Yeah, I was expecting some heartfelt answer to that.
He just said going out to eat.
That's going to be my call today.
I like that memory.
Thank you.
Appreciate the call.
I forgot.
That was most of college.
The lines are open.
Lons are open.
You guys get to pick the topic.
Really?
Lines are open.
859-2-80-2287.
Yeah.
All right.
Shannon, I also want to tell you, do you want to hear a joke?
Oh, well.
You're going to tell a joke?
Yeah, is this your joke?
I was listening to Colin Jost and Michael Chey.
Yes.
Michael Chey said that Colin Jost told a joke so bad,
it almost made him quit Saturday Night Live.
Oh, my.
And he was so mad at how bad the joke was.
He was like, I'm going to quit Saturday Night Live if you say that on the air.
And Colin Jost then said, now I'm definitely going to say it.
And he did.
And apparently the joke.
crushed.
Everybody laughed.
But Michael Chase says it's the worst joke in 50 years of Saturday,
oh my.
So I want to read you the joke.
Okay.
And see if you,
because it's the kind of joke that I think you all would hate.
Okay.
Shannon,
are you ready?
I'm going to leave the mic open.
You can get my natural reaction.
Okay.
So,
yeah,
go ahead.
Ohio police arrested a woman for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend for eating all of her salsa.
Okay.
Okay.
Ohio police arrest a woman for her.
allegedly stabbing a man, her man for eating all of her salsa.
Well, you'd be angry, too, if your man was jalapeno business.
Wow.
Yeah, I think I'm going to quit the show.
Is that the worst joke that you've ever heard?
I mean, it's, it's not good.
No.
Mario laughed, though.
Mario laughed.
I laughed a little bit.
Drew laughed.
I gave it a natural smile.
Halapeno.
And you all know, I don't smile much in here, so I got a reaction out of me.
All jalapeno.
business. I laugh because it's so bad, though. I don't know. I wouldn't quit, but it's a pretty
terrible joke. Maybe not quittable, but it's pretty bad. All right. Well, I have to tell you,
it made me laugh. Club Blue is off to an incredible start this season. Before every home football
game, members have been stopping by. Gabe told me he went to the one before the South Carolina game.
Okay. He said there were 500 people there. Awesome. And this was Gabe's quote to me. He said the
player, the basketball players are unbelievably nice.
That's awesome.
That Travis Perry would meet people, and let's say I was meeting.
Where are you from, sir?
Yeah.
Mead County.
He would meet someone from Mead County, talk to him, and then Travis would go introduce them
to his other teammates and go, this is so-and-so from Mead County.
That's awesome.
Isn't that cool?
It speaks highly of the type of kid he is.
Absolutely.
So this is at the meet and greets that they're doing before.
game for Club Blue. You can be part of it too at the football game on the 7th. That's the next one.
The Club Blue members will, or excuse me, the South Carolina game, they got a private tailgate.
They're going to have more throughout the thing. They're going to be discounted tickets for the
blue-white game that are coming, which will go on sale soon. It is Clubblue nil.com today to
support NIL at UK, activate your benefits. It is Club Blue NIL. I have to give the Club Blue
guys a lot of credit. I think they've done a really good job.
with these players and getting them to and getting this basketball team to engage with the fans
and the players doing a good job as well.
We'll take a break.
Barry back.
This is KSR.

Welcome back, Techie Sports Radio, 859-280-2-807.
I was just saying, first of all day, dollar wings all day and night come by.
You could try them.
We won an award last week for best wings in Lexington, so we appreciate those.
Really good.
We appreciate those folks.
We always have one challenger.
It's the two of us.
We go head to head.
I'm not going to say who it is because I'm not going to give them the free publicity.
But I agree.
I think because that place has good ones, good ones too.
This guy here is from Mead County.
And we're talking about when I think of Meade County,
I think about the fact that was where I confronted my tracker during the Mitch McConnell stuff,
the guy that would follow me around.
Oh, yeah.
I remember him.
If you read the book, and I'm not going to give the spoiler to the book,
but part of the book is me getting to know him, this person that they had hired to follow me around the state.
And the first time I confronted him was in Meade County at that pizza place that's in a jailhouse or that's in a former jail.
I think it's called jailhouse pizza, right?
It's got to be.
It's something like that.
Because we have done the show at Meade County High School.
Yeah.
And all of a sudden there's this dude there.
And I go, that has to be my tracker because he's just sitting here.
at a high school.
And then when we go eat lunch, he's there again.
And so I go up to him and say, hey, man, like, I know what you're doing.
It's fine, but, like, you don't need to be sneaky.
It's, I know what you're doing.
And that started us having conversations that became to us getting along later on, etc.
I can remember you talking to him at the jailhouse pizza place.
And I remember it wasn't really awkward.
You guys, you know, you were just kind of just talking.
It could have been really awkward.
I mean, I just was like, look, I'm going to be traveling all over this state.
So are you.
We might as well talk to each other.
Yeah.
I mean, sometimes it's just me and you in these places, so we might as well, you know.
I wondered if he got in trouble for outing himself too quickly.
Like he was supposed to lay low and you're on him pretty early.
I mean, going to Meade County High School and the job pizza one afternoon is a giveaway.
When you're in Henry County and there he is, and you're in Meade County and then.
There he is. There comes a point. It's not a coincidence anymore. It's like, clearly you're here to see me. I got it, you know.
I just wondered if there was any blowback in his office. Like, man, you couldn't make it a week.
By the way, some breaking news, Shannon. Okay.
Running a nah. Adrian Wojianowski of ESPN is retiring from the news game to become the general manager of St. Bonaventure basketball.
That's the biggest woege bomb of the year right there,
him leaving ESPN to be a general manager at St. Bonaventure.
Well, I think that's where he went to school.
Okay.
He's probably the biggest basketball reporter there is.
So that is a big news.
It is big news.
Yeah.
When he reported something, you paid attention to it.
You know, worked at ESPN for the last few years.
Ruin the draft for a few years?
Yeah.
I mean, I'm not the biggest fan in the world.
he wasn't the nicest to me over the years,
especially during the Cal years.
You know, he didn't like Cal and even though I would take up for Cal
and that led to some interactions.
But I wish him the best at St. Bonavittier.
Who's up next?
Luke.
Go ahead, Luke.
Hey, Matt.
I'm a student here at Western and actually I got an exam like in 30 minutes.
But I just think it's great that we're finally, like, getting to play teams that, like, are in state.
I wish we could see more of it because I don't know.
I just think, like, it brings the state together, like, play Murray, Moorhead State, play them more.
Brian, I know you agree.
Good luck on your exam.
A little early in the semester.
You got a hard professor there giving you an exam in mid-September.
But I got two of them this week.
Oh, man.
Who knew Western with that academic prowess?
All right, well, I appreciate the call.
You agree with that.
You've always been big on Kentucky should play the in state schools in basketball.
I love those games.
And I think even the opposing fan bases love those games.
Have that one chance to come in here on the big stage and see your team on the field,
like, EKU see their guys on the field with the UK.
Murray State's coming in.
I mean, I think.
But you have to agree to come here.
You have to come here.
You have to come here.
We're not going there.
And I know people want us to go there, but we're not going there.
No.
And we shouldn't go there.
It's not charity.
Yeah, I mean, we got to, we got to.
This is a business, right?
Like we, we're not going there.
But if the teams want to come here, yes.
Then I'm for it because, and that was the thing,
is Murray Forever would make you come there.
And I guess they now backed off that because they're coming here, right?
Yeah.
And Western's been big on that one Kentucky to come there.
And one year in football, they played us here.
And then we played them in Nashville.
Yeah, but that's even different because we were able to sell the tickets in Nashville.
We're not going to play them.
at Fogg Diddle or what is it, Bo Diddle.
It's a long name now.
Oceans, Dittles, sponsor, but what's the Diddle?
Who's the Frank?
I don't remember his first name, but Diddle Arena.
Yeah, but we're not going to go there.
And that's just, you're right.
D.A.
Yeah, who's up next?
In the game.
Lee.
Lee, what's up, Lee?
Hey, guys, football.
I know we beat a dead horse on the ground about this,
but the punting at the 50 didn't bother.
me as much as at the end of the first half
we just got a first down.
There's nine seconds to go.
I thought clocked the ball.
Keep your time out. He didn't.
He called time out and then he
had to either kick a field goal or take a chance
of getting sacked. Where if he
had clock the ball, you
got seven seconds left, then you got
one time out left. You can throw to the end zone
and then if you don't score, then you can
kick the field goal. That was the one that got
me more so than at the 50-yard line.
That was Michael Roy's point.
too. McElroy didn't like that
time out. I appreciate the call. I mean, we've kind of
talked about that a lot.
You know, it's interesting. I listened yesterday
to Rosillo and Todd McShay.
And they were talking about how
basically Kentucky's defensive
scheme against Georgia, they were kind of saying
maybe the best of any team that plays
Georgia. And they went not just yesterday, but through history.
That they just, they make Carson Beck, and before that, Stetson Bennett,
kind of look uncomfortable in a way that other teams just aren't able to do, Drew.
Yeah, that stat about George only being held under 20.3 times are all Kentucky.
You know, it's coincidence or a great game if you do it once,
but it's the last three times they've been to Lexington.
So Brad White really dials it up when the dogs come to town,
and just the players were flying around everywhere.
They were.
It wasn't just what he was calling.
They were just so aggressive.
We would wrap up.
You know, there were very few broken tacked.
for Kentucky in that game.
When a guy would get a guy, he would bring them down.
And that doesn't always happen for Kentucky, and it did during that game.
We're going to open up the doors here at KSpar.
Wingsday.
We'll be right back.
