So tell your friends, tell people you meet on the street.
10.40 a.m.
Mark Pope will make only his second appearance.
It's on KSR ready to talk to us.
How about that?
Our new head basketball coach is going to come on for the second time in five months.
And the previous coach.
So we focus on Mark Pope coming and not making it about things of the past.
But Mark, excited to have Mark on.
The math on that is crazy that.
It's been five months since he was on this show.
It feels like it was just yesterday.
Maybe not for you.
You took a little bit of lap around the world.
But I remember he'd get on here.
He said, I want to get in the weeds.
Yeah.
He was talking about their whiteboard with a broken wheel.
It was really fun hearing from him that first.
time and I expect it again. I think he's done that, by the way. I think he has gotten in the
weeds. Yes, oh, absolutely. He's been about as good as you could have hoped for all the parts of
the job that we wondered if he would. So really excited to have him on. Also, today is Mario's birthday.
Yay. I mean, I am Shannon, like, we never got the treatment he gets. I know. It's just people
bringing him gifts. He's wearing grandma glasses today because it's his birthday.
and you know, happy birthday.
He's now a quarter of a century old.
Half is old as Saturday Night Live that turns 50 this year.
I have a son older than Mario.
That just makes me feel really, really, really old.
Well, you are old, so I think it's...
Really, really old.
Yeah.
I mean, I don't know.
One really.
I don't know if I'd go with two reallys, but Drew, happy birthday tomorrow.
Yeah, I love Mario.
He's on quite the heater.
I mean, he did that Chicago boys trip.
Yeah.
Lambo, got that night.
gift yesterday now celebrating the birthday he's just killing it absolutely the way that gift from the ladies
of kSr yesterday was awesome if you saw what was all in there a lot of these gift cards and they did a good job
of getting the places that he likes his like favorite places the for the women listeners if you haven't
joined the ladies of ksr facebook page you should they seem like they are like the nicest group absolutely they are
uh yeah and then for our newer listeners bond that bridge so to speak is the regular facebook page you know it was
It's a cool name.
I think it makes it hard for people to find it because it's bond that bridge.
You have to go back 12 years to know that reference.
Yeah, but if you know, you know, it's like a secret club.
So it's like you know, you know, not as many haters on there because if you know, you know, right?
So, yeah.
Now, look, Mark Pope being on here, there's an announcement about the blue-white game that I think is a big part of why he's coming.
Okay.
But we have to start with the vulture couple in London.
I mean, this is one of the great, in my opinion,
Drew, Kentucky's stories of all time.
Okay, so what started almost two weeks ago as a real tragedy, potentially,
man on the side of the road, shooting at the road hit seven people.
Nobody passed away, thankfully, and then he was on the run.
And, you know, there were schools closed for a week.
Yes.
The state police and federal agents were looking everywhere.
Local police could not find him.
And then Fred and Sheila McCoy.
And Fred and Sheila McCoy, just so you know, I tried to get Fred and Sheila on the show today.
I got their phone number.
I called and texted.
I think it was Sheila.
Didn't get back to me.
But you know what?
I'm sure they're very busy.
Right.
Fred and Sheila go on a date night.
Now, what is your...
Like, Ryan, what's your average date night?
Just probably pre-drink somewhere and then go to a nice dinner.
It's usually my go-to date night.
You pre-drink?
Yeah.
Before the dinner.
Yeah.
You have a nice buzz before appetizes.
I mean, what?
Yeah, you go to someplace else for pre-drinks and then you go to a day.
That's like what college kids do.
You're pre-drinking at 57.
Yeah, it's like, you know, you tailgate for a football game.
You tailgate before dinner.
You tailgate before your date.
Yes.
All right.
Yeah.
So pre-drink.
Yeah.
Pre-drink dinner.
What about you, Drew?
What's your and Abby's kind of day night?
Trying a new restaurant.
You know, Lexington's got so many places, but I was trying to find a new one and go there.
New experiences.
So that's not.
What's yours?
You know, nothing.
I like go to go to dinner.
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, there's not, I'm not.
Read a magazine together.
Yeah, exactly.
We read a magazine.
That's not Fred and Sheila.
Fred and Sheila are on a date night, and they're like, how can we, you know,
How can we keep the...
You don't want to keep the spice.
Yeah, sure.
Like, that's the thing.
Like, if you're going to have...
As someone who's never been married,
what I do know from people who have success...
You've got to keep it spice.
Oh, yeah.
You got to keep it going.
And they decide, it's date night.
How are we going to keep it going?
Let's go hunt for that body.
And the thickets and the thorns and the weeds.
Like, let's be pillars of our community,
and let's go hunt for that body.
And so they're YouTube streamers.
You look at Fred and Sheila McCoy, Shannon.
Excuse me.
You don't necessarily think YouTube streamers when you see them.
Yeah.
They YouTube stream.
That's a great thing about YouTube.
Drew, everybody's doing it.
The Hatfield McCoy Museum Adventures.
That's the name of their program.
They run the Hatfield McCoy Museum Adventure.
Here's what's interesting.
It's in Casey County, which is nowhere near where the Hatfields of McCoys live.
True.
It's part of the adventure.
Exactly.
The adventure is you're not anywhere close to where any of this is.
You're going to have to find your way.
I've been to the Hatfield-McCoy Museum in Williamson, West Virginia, which is where they were.
Farby, I didn't know there was one in Casey Camp.
It's a satellite location.
You know what?
I'm going to it at some point.
So they go, their YouTube streamers, they decide, and you've got to give Fred and Sheila credit.
You know, the whole government was looking for this guy.
Yes.
And they decided, let's look where the vultures are.
Uh-huh.
Very smart, Shannon.
Vultures tend to, you know.
Nature takes care of itself.
Nature takes care of itself.
This feels like something Harvey would have suggested.
Rest in peace, Harvey, Harvey would have been with them.
Yes.
I think he would have been a love triangle with Harvey there as well.
They go, they use the maps to see where the vultures are,
and they go into the woods and they live stream it.
And let me just tell you, it's 30 minutes.
the major moment is 29 minutes in.
But you shouldn't skip over the 29 minutes before if you see the video.
I didn't link it because they do come upon a body,
and that might be troubling for some folks.
But they're good characters, the two of them.
The woman is holding the camera and narrating,
and the guy's going, stick over here.
Look at that tree.
Like, it's oddly fascinating.
at about the 29 and a half minute mark they discover it.
Shannon Sheila channelling her inner DJ Tanner from Full House.
That's right.
That says, oh, my Lanta, we found him.
That was, I mean, you're talking about a reference.
I haven't heard in a long time.
Oh, my Lanta.
I didn't know what it came from.
J.J. Tanner used to say it instead of saying like, you know, oh, my blunt, you know, cursing.
Oh, my goodness.
Well, the other one, the one you wouldn't say, because it's heresy.
She would say, oh, my, Lanta.
So that's where it came from.
She says, oh, my Lanta, we found him, and they find the body.
And two YouTubers who were on a date night looking for bodies end up finding the shooter.
Thankfully, that'll probably keep, I mean, it's, you know, unfortunate, well, it's unfortunate the situation.
But it makes the community, I'm sure, feel safer, et cetera.
But what a story.
You love it.
And what a Kentucky story.
I think Fred maybe used to be KSP.
Yeah.
So, you know, he knew tactics.
But they found it, from what I see, from what I heard, on looking where the vultures were,
and they just get out in the woods themselves.
Drew, do you love this story as much as that?
I can't love it more.
There can't be a more Kentucky resolution for this story.
you mentioned that video's 30 minutes long.
I've watched an hour and a half of it.
I've seen it three times all the way.
It's so good.
It is so good.
Fred and Sheila are perfect.
They're the perfect people to find it.
They need to name exit 49.
Fred Sheila exit, put a statue up.
It's just crazy that there is this huge manhunt that's going on for days.
And what's nuts is he would just hop out.
The body wasn't that far from where they did it, which is odd to me, Shannon.
They spent all that time searching, and it was like right in front of their notes.
That's crazy.
It was like right close to where he did it.
But the vultures hadn't picked up on it yet.
The vultures hadn't gotten.
And like she's walking at one point, Shannon, and she goes, you smell that, Fred?
She gets a smell.
She's like, you smell that?
Wind.
It's a body.
She was like the wind.
And I thought, how does she know?
Sheila smelled a minute before Fred stumbled on it.
And by the way, this was live streamed.
So she smelled.
And then she goes, now I don't smell it now.
Oh, the wind's.
picking up again and then she smelled it and she was telling fred to go left or right based on the
wind i mean i can't even i can't even change my oil this woman is smelling bodies based on the
direction of the wind that's a woman that's a mountain woman that's the kind of person you bring home
who you know will help you get through life a woman who can smell bodies in the wind ride
limit just like she did a bloodhound she was leading the pack out of there
Go ahead.
Well, the whole, like you guys said, the whole thing's perfect.
The fact they're from Casey County.
They call themselves the Hatfield-McCoy Adventure Series.
You know, his name is Fred.
They're in the chomping around, looking at vultures in the sky.
Everything about it's perfect.
And if you were to draw up what I want him to be wearing when he finds the body, he is.
That's right.
You know what I mean?
He is.
Now, Shannon has what he wears to bed, what he wears to farm, what he wears to everything.
He's awesome.
Shannon has the audio of when they discovered the body.
Okay, here it is.
You found him?
Oh, my lanta.
I'm coming.
Oh, my lanta.
You found him?
Oh, my lanta.
He's deteriorated.
Oh, my lanta.
And for those of you that haven't seen the video, that's the actual live audio.
Yes, it is.
That's the actual lot.
Do it one more time, shit.
Okay.
You found him?
Oh, my lanta.
I'm coming.
Oh, my lanta.
Lanta, you found him?
Oh, my Lanta.
I mean, come on.
How are you not, like, if I'm her, I'm selling old Milanta shirts.
It should.
Like, oh, my Lanta, when we score against Ohio Saturday,
if you don't think I'm screaming, oh, my Lanta, I don't know what's going to happen.
I mean, Drew, it's so perfect.
And I wanted to get them on the show.
I understand, like, they probably got, they might have been on Good Morning America today.
But nevertheless, what a great story.
They need to have a reality show within a month.
What other mysteries do we have that they need to go?
That's true.
We don't need Buck Stivers and Richie Farmer to host this show.
Give me Fred and Sheila, right?
Like, there's so much there.
I want to hear more from them.
Where does that rank on date nights?
Is that just a typical date night for them?
Not even, it's in the middle of the pack.
Like, it's not even one of their best date nights.
Oh, my goodness.
They are doing, like, their date nights, they accomplish more on a Tuesday.
than I do in an entire year, Reynne.
We're obviously been doing it wrong.
They're doing it right.
If they're a happy couple, they got their own date-night routine.
So parade, statues, name the highway after them?
You got to do something.
Bring them to a game.
It's Fred and Sheila.
I'm fine with calling Exit 49, exit Fred and Sheila.
I'm good with it.
And, you know, when the news outlets interviewed him last night, he was like very not shy about,
like, yeah, we're doing it for the ransom for the money.
They got $35,000, Shannon.
So they were like, you know, they were like,
honey, how are we going to pay for these dates?
Let's go find this body.
That's a good reward.
They need NIL on top of it.
Yes, why not have an NIL deal, right?
Yeah, billboards.
Yes, I love it.
So salute to Fred and Sheila.
Amen.
And, oh, my Lanta.
Oh, my Lanta.
They did it.
It's awesome.
And if you're in Casey County and you know them,
and I'm sure you do.
It feels like to me that's not a couple that's kind of under the radar.
It feels like to me,
a couple that people know in the town.
859-280-2287.

American soccer is about to explode. The World Cup is coming.
Ramos sending on the only store at the chip.
I'm Ty Bramos. I'm Tom Boone. On our podcast, inside American soccer, you'll get the real
storylines. I'm not worried about Policic. I'm not worried about Balligan. I'm not
worried about McKinney. My only concern is what
happens in the back. The biggest decisions. You're going to look at stats and numbers. He has no
shot at making this World Cup team. And the truth about the U.S. national team. It wouldn't be a
huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the
semifinals. The World Cup is almost here. Experience it all with us. Listen, inside American soccer

Kentucky Sports Radio. By the way, it's Lincoln County, not Casey County. It's from Houstonville.
Yeah. In Lincoln County. Yes. Apparently she maybe worked in the court clerk's office or something.
One person writes, and this is right, early in the stream, Fred says, I got the flu and can't smell.
Sheila, you do the smell it.
Beautiful.
You know, like that, Shannon? I can't.
do the smell she let you please do the smell that's right hey that's what she's out there for listen
division of labor like everybody has a string that's right you know i have a really good nose yes you'd be
i don't have sheila level nose you might but i have a good nose but like you know 17 years of wearing
these headphones hearing's not as great so if i was to go with mario mario listens i smell right
Drew, you see, you got Lysick, and all of a sudden we're out there doing our thing, right?
It also says a lot about their marriage.
You know, he's down a little bit.
She's picking up the slack.
You can't smell.
Don't worry, honey.
I'll smell for us.
That's exactly right.
One person writes, I don't think I could be married to Sheila.
The moment I farted, she would know.
He called me out.
You say, oh, my lanta.
He's deteriorated.
That's exactly.
Apparently it was not DJ.
It was Stephanie, Tanner, Shannon, who said, oh, my land.
No, it was DJ.
I watched every episode.
That's what I said.
Corey told me it was my, it was Stephanie.
It was DJ, right?
In Fuller House, it was definitely DJ.
All right.
Corey, don't argue with me about 90s television references, please.
She said how, Stephanie said how rude.
How rude.
That was Stephanie.
Yeah, that's how she would say it.
That's right.
So there you.
Don't argue.
859-28027.
One person writes, Matt, I'm happy for Fred and Sheila.
But is it a bad look for the police that they've been searching for a week and a half,
and it took two people on YouTube looking at vultures to find it?
I've heard that argument a lot.
What's your all's take on that?
You've got to understand that area, though.
That's a tough area to try to find anything in.
You're trying to find a body.
They had helicopters.
They had drones.
They had boots on the ground.
I mean, they were out there actually looking for this guy.
But the vulture people.
The vultures.
Well, there were 50 vultures, they said, about 50 flying around yesterday.
So that should have been a pretty good clue.
Something's over there.
So do you think it's a bad look?
Maybe a little.
He's like a politician, Shannon.
He just talks around and then never answers the exact question.
You think maybe a little?
Maybe a little.
All right, what about you, Derr?
No.
Did you see Fred and Sheila?
That's not their first time walking those woods.
I know there was a lot more manpower, a lot more in the budget, a lot more at their disposal to search for him on the police side.
but Fred and Sheila have been around the block on exit 49.
Do we know how many Fred and Sheila's were out there?
Like, were there a lot of people out there besides the police and they just came upon it?
Or was it just the police with a parallel Fred and Sheila operation?
Yeah, I mean, this has got to be maybe a date night thing we don't know about.
Maybe there were other couples out there tramping around.
I feel like you are going to be direct.
Do you think it's a bad look?
No, I don't.
I think it's right place, right time.
I think if Fred and Sheila were out there maybe a week ago,
they wouldn't have found it either.
I think it's just long enough
to where the buzzards picked up on the body
and they just so happened to be out there
at that moment.
There are some people that say the police
were not that far from them.
Like the general area
the police were in too,
and that may be to Shannon.
They just came upon them
before the police.
But still, I mean,
YouTube streaming,
I will tell you this,
if they go hunting for something again,
I will be tuned in life.
New subscriber.
I will be a new subscriber.
I will be tuned in live to whatever hunt, Fred and Sheila, go on in the future.
On the police end, how about Sheila versus the dogs with the nose?
I mean, that's what's more impressive.
So are there some people?
Sheal really smelled it and the dogs didn't smell it.
So like, I have a good-in-law.
I have a good nose.
Yes, you do.
I don't think I have a Sheila knows.
Are there people?
I mean, they always say dogs have, like, insane.
sense of smell, especially crime dogs.
Are there people who are like that who just are able to sniff out the most, like, do you think,
like you'd think if there was a person, they could do like the dogs do at the airport and
smell the drugs.
I think we might have found one.
I mean, that may be a reach, but there are people that have just this incredible sense
of smell.
I think you're one of them.
Yoga girl's one of them.
Some people can, like, taste something and break down the spices in something they're
tasting.
I mean, they had that ability.
Yeah.
Well, amazing story.
One of the most Kentucky stories of all time.
It is.
And if Sheila, Fred, I would love to have you on.
If you got my number, hopefully we can make it happen.
Who's up next?
Josh.
Josh, go ahead, Josh.
Hey, guys.
How you doing?
Doing good.
Hey, so last year I was a really big fan of Alabama's offense,
and I was always getting mad at Cal for not playing Big Z out there with, like,
Reed and Rob and Antonio.
know, do you think that a Pope would be willing to play, like, Carr at the center,
and then, like, Anzolore, Robinson, Brea, and Kerr, like a five-guy lineup that could just shoot the lights out?
Yes.
Do you think we'll end up playing that a decent amount of time?
Yeah, I think we'll have, I think that will happen quite a bit.
I don't know if it'll happen at the start of the year.
I think probably Carr plays the four at the start, but he's a four that can shoot.
I mean, one of the things, the key to me, and I appreciate the call.
It's less Drew about the height, right, than it's about can the four shoot?
If the four can shoot, the five doesn't necessarily have to shoot, although you'd like them to.
But the four has to be a really good shooter, in my opinion, to make sort of a modern offense.
And Carr is that, right?
I think if you try to play two bigs, like if you try to play Garrison and Wheeler,
Williams or something. That might, that's not going to work. But if you do that, I don't see any
reason why that can't work. You know, and if I'm not mistaken, Carr played a little bit of the
five at Wake Forest last year. Defense and rebounding might be an issue with the area. He'll primarily
play the four, especially if depth is good with Williams and Garrison, but there will be
situations where he plays the five and they go even smaller. Yeah, I think there definitely will be.
I think that's actually going to be a centerpiece of what he does. I think in a perfect world,
he's going to want five guys that can shoot threes. I mean, I think you take
a dude like Nate Sestina or a dude like Olivier Sarr,
Mark Pope would be better players with the,
or be a better coach with those guys.
Now you take a dude like Isaiah Briscoe,
he was probably a better Cal fit than he would be a Pope fit.
Would you agree with that?
Yeah, but like the caller said,
that lineup he put out there.
I think we're going to see a lineup like that.
Put five shooters on the floor and let's run with them.
Let's see what we got.
Who's up next?
Mike.
Mike, go ahead, Mike.
Got about a minute.
All right, Matt.
Hey, so Fred and Sheila, they're very interesting folks.
My son actually had Sheila as a kindergarten age in Houstonville.
And she still teaches there.
Oh, she still teaches there.
So she's like in class today.
Uh-huh.
Correct.
And Fred was the, he was the police chief there in Houstonville forever.
Okay.
And he started the Houstonville haunted house.
Oh, there's a Houston.
Fred has a haunted house.
Oh, man.
This is so many layers.
He had the haunted house.
He sold that.
He sold that to a guy, but he started it.
And I mean, it was him a really popular deal, and he sold it.
So he's a pretty interesting dude.
Yeah, I can always say is the haunted house still open in Houstonville?
Yes, there is still a Houstonville haunted house, but it moved to the metropolis of Junction City.
Oh, the friend's haunted house.
You know what?
As soon as the big corporation comes and buys the haunted house, they move it from Houstonville to
Junction City. I understand. Well, I appreciate the call. I already love these people.
They are awesome. We'll be right back on KSR.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay.

matt i do think fred and sheila would have gone for it on fourth and eight absolutely no
doubt what their mindset is going to be you think fred chila are punting no no no they're not
punton they're going for it they're going for it they're going for it they're going for it's we're going for
it friend would go for it she would go for it she would smell out the defense before we go
no way they're going for it it it sounded like the vc said that he has the flu his smellers bad he must
maybe have that sense of smell also just that day he didn't have the flu sometimes it happens
my voice is kind of shaky all right so let's talk for a second about what mark pope
uh is going to be on for to talk about the blue white guy
game, tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10 a.m. This is a, we always say we want Kentucky to be kind of
at the forefront of things. This is an example of where I think Kentucky is being at the forefront
of things. They're going to have it in Memorial Coliseum, but it is a fundraiser for NIL. It is,
they decided to move it from Rupp, and they're going to basically have it if you, excuse me,
are a member of Club Blue, you get a discount to go. That's right. It's also set up.
up to where if you've thought about being a club blue member, like, you should do it now
because it will essentially make a fourth of the ticket price go away for the game,
your first month.
So it's like also an incentive to join.
I've heard some plans about what they're thinking about doing.
I think this is going to be an unbelievably cool event.
They're going to have like a real scrimmage, but not like a big blue madness scrimmage
where they just dunk.
Like they're having a game.
and it'll be the first one they have.
Like they're doing it at Blue White.
But also, they're going to do interactive stuff.
And the big thing is, I think every school in the country, by the way,
is going to be doing this at some point.
I just think it's a smart idea.
And I think it's going to be a great event for fans.
You know, I've talked a lot with the Club Blue people about some of their thoughts.
They've listened to me on some things, I think, would be good.
but they go on sale tomorrow at 10.
And honestly, for UK basketball, if this goes well, if this event goes well,
it's a huge step on getting the NIO you need for the year.
If this thing goes well, and you can go, I think, to clubbluenil.com.
There's a link to the ticket page and see the tickets and they go on sale tomorrow at 10.
I love the idea.
I love the idea that they're doing something, perks for the people that join.
And if this, like you said, successful, they'll have more events like this
where there'll be better perks and other things you can do if you become a member.
So just the way they're reaching out to the fan base is something we haven't seen in a while, and I love it.
Now, listen, I mean, it is a, you know, it is a cost.
I mean, it's not, but it's like a ticket to a regular game.
But I think in order to justify that, you got to give a good experience, and I think they're going to do it.
All the players are going to be there, the coaches, men's and women's team.
And I think the difference from this is that it's actually going to be like a real game.
You know, sometimes when you see the big blue madness thing, that does, that's not a game.
I think this is going to be an actual game.
And that for us, this is the first time we're going to see these dudes play.
That's right.
Well, it's very unique circumstances.
Actually, it'll never happen again.
You have a brand new renovation that you're kind of unveiling.
You have a brand new women's program, new coach, new players across the roster outside of a couple of returnees there.
Brand new men's coach, all new men's team.
You'll never be pulling back the curtain on something new.
They are this.
You won't.
And I think it's cool to have this event built around it.
I think it's very exciting for anyone who's able to go in addition to how you can
unique it is with the fundraising aspect.
So I, I'm looking forward.
I'm going to go.
And you know, nowadays, I have to, I don't go to a lot.
But I think this is going to be one of those that's the start of something kind of, kind
of special.
So Mark's going to come on, talk about it.
Also going to ask him about the team, how recruiting's going.
We haven't gotten to talk to him since we first got hired.
April 29th.
That was the day.
April 29th, and now we are, you know, almost at September 29th and ready to go.
So we're going to take an early break so that we can have a full segment with him.
So we will take an early break.
Come back.
Mark Pope when we return here on KSR.

A, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue 42.
Hey, ref, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Where's she at?
Hey, Miss Parker.

All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own.
I was like, what the hell is that?
I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that nest was going to be.
Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive.
Wait, what sex?
Dating at 45.
How can it be getting naked at 50 with a new guy?
That one's kind of hard.
Well, that's lighting.
They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure.
you're going to try. So let's get blunt with laughs, tears or tears of laughter, and dive into it
unfiltered and unbothered and ask, how hard can it be? I cannot believe I'm about to say this

Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. Now joined on the phone by Mark Pope, the University of Kentucky
head basketball coach, Mark, great to have you on. We talked to you right after you were
hired and now it's been almost five months in the job. Does it feel like it after that long?
Oh, you know what, Matt? First of all, I'm so hyped to be on. Second, I think we've lost
all sense of space and time, right? So I don't know what it feels like. It feels like brilliant and
beautiful and big blue, right? So I don't know if it feels like it's just been a day or it feels like it's
been five years, but probably both.
Yeah, well, you've been everywhere.
I see you all over the state, all over the country.
You know, you get a job like this.
You sit there and you say, okay, I've got the job I've always dreamed of.
What's it like now that you've actually done it for five months?
It's the greatest job in the world.
It's the greatest job in the world.
You know, the day I forget that is the day that Mitch should move me out of here because
This is just really incredibly special.
And it's the greatest challenge that I'll ever face in my life professionally.
And it's also the greatest honor to be here coaching this program.
And so every day, it's not hard to remember that.
It's really not.
I mean, you know, there's some, you know, occasionally we have a day where it's a heavy work day.
But every day is joy, man, because we're doing something we love.
And we're doing it at the greatest institution in all of college.
basketball and we're certainly doing in front of the greatest fan base in all of sports i think i really
do like that greatest fan base in all of sports all right i want to talk let's talk about the event that's
coming and then some questions about the team uh tomorrow tickets are going to go on sale for this new
uh blue white game that's a fundraiser for nil for uk basketball tell people the thoughts behind it and
what's going to happen there in a few weeks yeah i'm so excited about this so this is this is just our
regularly scheduled practice.
So it's going to be, what's going to happen is that we're going to scrimmage.
Like we're going to live scrimmage.
In fact, I think it'll, I think it's going to be the first time the public will be
able to see a live scrimmage for a full game.
The BBN will be able to see that.
And so it's going to be really exciting.
Club Blue now is just taking this normal practice.
And they turned it into this incredible event where.
you know, they're going to have every time it's going to be a
siesta, right?
It's going to be, I think it's going to be pretty epic.
I'm really excited about all the things that we're hearing
that Club Blue is going to do around this.
And then, you know, for us, like, we're going to compete.
Like, it's going to be game speed, full intensity,
kind of pride and guts and blood and sweat on the floor scrimmage
where our guys are trying to prove themselves.
Like, we have a lot of guys.
You're going to be trying to earn time, earn time,
earned position, learn how to play with each other.
Our coaches will be
miced up, so you'll be
able to hear them coaching.
Oh, wait a minute. We're going to get to hear you guys
coach during the game, for real.
Yeah. And there'll probably
be some commentary from us during
timeouts and halftime where you
really get an inside look at
exactly the mechanism of how this is
and how we operate
and how we're trying to
you know, build this thing.
I think it's going to be incredible, actually.
So I'm super excited about it.
I've never seen anything done like it before.
And it's the way Kentucky should be.
I mean, we should be doing things that have never been done before.
And this is certainly going to be one of them.
And so I'm incredibly excited.
It also, Club Blue is also a linchpin organization in the future of Kentucky basketball.
Like in this new environment, what Club Blue is doing to allow us to compete?
I can't, I cannot overstate it's important.
It's quintessentially important to everything we're doing.
And so the fact that we get to partner with them on this,
that they're building this incredible event around our practice is actually super cool.
So if I'm coming, if I'm a fan that's coming, I'm going to, you know,
one of the things I've heard over the years is people go,
well, you know, these blue-white and the madness, they're not really playing.
Are you planning on having these guys really play in this situation?
No, hey, listen, so this is what I would say to BBM, okay?
Come to this deal and bring your pom-poms and your size
because you're going to cheer like crazy, but also bring your notebooks
because you're going to be able to take notes and kind of have the best insider look at what we're doing.
Like, you know, Matt, I'm not a secret guy.
I'm not smart enough to have secrets.
And so, and this opportunity for, for BBN to roll in there and really, really get to know us and how we do things and why we do things and how we're trying to build this.
So it's going to be the greatest fan experience in terms of cheering these guys on and getting to know him.
But it's also going to be, in a sense, like a coach's clinic and like an insider dive into who we, who we are as a program.
I like that, right.
That sounds, that sounds very interesting, get to see him break it down.
Well, let me ask you a little bit.
You know, there's never been a Kentucky team, maybe ever,
where the fans probably know less about the players going into it than this year.
So you've been around them.
Tell us on some of these players, what you're seeing, what they play like,
and how fans can kind of, for some of these names, what are these guys?
We know their names, but what are they like as players now that you've worked with?
Yeah, so you let me all start with them as people.
So I can cite a dozen examples, but most recently, you know, we got a chance to kick off this school year by going to Eastern Kentucky and having a weekend of service to the people in the state of Kentucky.
And, you know, it was hard work.
It was blistering hot.
It was uncomfortable.
Guys are, you know, carrying timber and pounding nails and, you know, and doing all that.
a good solid day's work at the hot sun to serve.
And this group, I'm telling you, there was not one guy in this group that hid.
There was never a word of complaint.
Like, these guys were all in.
It was really impressive as a staff, you know, experiencing that with our guys.
That's something we keep going back to.
It's just like, man, our guys are just fully invested.
Like, they're just, they know work, they love work, they're about work, they're about service.
So when you have that as a foundation for what a team is, it's pretty cool.
And as individuals, you know, always probably start these conversations with Lamont Butler and Kerr-Kr-Krissa.
You know, in some ways, they're really the head of the snake for us.
And they could not be more different as human beings and basketball players.
They're great in different ways and they're brilliant.
And they've actually become good friends.
They add different things.
Lamont Butler is really trying to bring a leadership voice to this program.
I used to, you know, he's also given us a defensive presence that you can't overstate.
You know, this league, the SEC is full of great point guards, and I'm spending exactly zero time.
I sweat about a lot of things at night, but I'm sweating zero, exactly zero ounces of sweat
are coming from my body when I think about
garden point cards in this league, which I don't know if anybody else.
Oh, wow. I like to hear that. I've heard, Mark, you tell me if I'm right,
that those two go at it in practice.
Like, that is a great battle in practice.
And listen, Lamont is the greatest gift to Kirk
because he just pressures the living day.
And Kerr is such a talented, offensive-minded player
that he's a real challenge for Lamont.
Like, he's really a test of Lamont.
like Kirk is an incredible cutter.
He shoots the lights out of the ball.
He's very, very clever.
So that matchup is super fun.
And then, you know, Kurt's got a little defensive juice to his own.
He's not really taking your ball, but he's going to end up flopping at some point
and you're going to get offensive style.
You're going to be so pissed at him, right?
He just is beautiful that way to kind of get under your skin.
And so, you know, that's just a little glimpse into those guys right now.
It's going to be really fun, kind of at that point guard spot for sure.
Do you look at the rest of the team?
You know, I think if outsiders would say, I suspect the leading score and kind of the main
offensive guy will be Jackson Robinson.
Do you agree with that or are there other guys to watch in that role?
Yeah, I mean, we got guys that can score for sure.
You know, Jackson, you know, we had a couple live scrimmages against former players this
summer and Jackson certainly was, you know, was incredibly impressive. He's proven his ability
to score. Kobe Bray is a guy that can really, really fill it up. I mean, incredibly quickly.
You know, Anzley Almador has been incredible making shots all summer long. You know, on our team
right now as a staff, we're like, we have got to get the ball to Andrew Carr more often.
Andrew Carr actually had a stretch this summer where he went five days of practice straight.
It wasn't five straight days of practice.
There was five consecutive practices because we have to take days off because of summer.
He went five straight practices where he did not miss a single flu.
Not a single one.
Stop.
And then he needs to shoot more, right?
Like he's got to shoot more.
Oh, my God.
So we're like, we've got to find more ways to get the ball in his hand.
So we have a bunch of guys that could really have an impact scoring a ball.
And I didn't even talk about Otega.
O'A.
And you think about O'Key, he's probably our most productive player all summer long.
So there's a lot of places.
And I haven't even mentioned Brandon Garrison or Amari Williams,
who, you know, as much as our point guards, those two fives,
they really stir the drink for us.
Both those guys finish second and third in the whole summer in terms of a cyst.
And we got that for me a two-five, man.
It's super cool, man.
That's a fun way to play the game.
Andy Kat says that Kobe Brea was, it was his pick for best three-point shooter in the country.
Kobe Brea then said, I'm not even the best three-point shooter on the team.
Travis Perry makes more than me.
What do you think about those guys?
Yeah, you know what?
Listen, I've talked about our Kentucky guys right now, Travis Perry and Trent Noah.
They have been awesome.
I mean, I'm so proud of those two kids.
They've grown so much.
and, you know, they kind of came in here, just excited, eager, hungry, and Travis Perry just has this.
He walks around with his confidence, and I think he's growing so much.
I think he's having fun growing, and this dude is assessing.
So he had three straight – I've never seen this at any level in basketball.
So our guys were doing some shooting series during the course of the summer,
and he had three straight days where he made 100 of 100 free –
Three straight.
Oh, my God.
That's 100.
I've never heard that before.
Have you ever heard about that run?
That's crazy.
Not three days in a row.
Yeah, it's great.
And it's Trent Noah guys.
So Trent's going to be mad at him.
I said, but the first, like, five weeks of summer, he couldn't make a shot.
Could not make a shot.
I think his head was spinning.
Everything was going so fast.
He had the exact consummate rookie experience moving into this jersey.
in this joint.
And then, but it's been incredible to watch him start to be like, no, I belong here.
This is where I'm supposed to be and I'm good at this.
And now I feel like this kid can't miss a shot.
He's got a physical out and super fun.
Like, those kids, man.
Yeah, I just got like a minute.
Real quick.
Colin Chandler, we know nothing about.
Give people a quick rundown.
So Colin Chandler, so Colin is, you know, he took two years off.
He didn't really take him off.
He went to serve for.
two years, right? And he set down the ball for two years. And so with these guys coming
off two-year service, their on-ramp is incredibly, like it's massively important. We have to go
really slow. He kind of got into full action that had a little setback, and he's almost
fully back. And it was super fun because week six of our eight-week summer, all of a sudden
he was dunking on guys. And everyone was like, whoa, where did this cat?
come from, right? Because we had to on-ramp him so slow. He is going to be incredibly excited. He's
almost back to live play. We're thinking maybe next week. He won't go to full two of a day's,
but maybe next week we'll get him some live play with this, dude, he is going to capture the
heart and soul of BBN in a way that's going to be incredibly special. This blue-white game is
Saturday the, what is it, the 19th, Friday the 18th, Friday the Friday?
Friday the 18th, Clubbluenil.com, we'll have the tickets tomorrow at 10 a.m. 30 seconds, get the fans to show up. Tell them what they're going to do.
Well, listen, I'll tell you, this is all I can say. On Friday, October 11th, Big Blue Madness, we have some things in works that have never been seen in college basketball before. I kid you not. Like, it's going to be awesome. Big Blue Manor is always awesome. We're trying to go next level.
And then this Friday, October 18th, this club blue event surrounding our practice is going to be the greatest insiders' lives on this season that we can ever have.
We got to run, Mark.
Thank you very much.
We appreciate it.
Thanks, Matt.
