Welcome, everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio Friday, September the 20th.
I'm Matt Jones here at Bywater Farms in Georgetown, Kentucky.
The Adventure Farm Capital of Autumn Fest here in the Lexington area.
We are here.
You can give us a shout to Clark's Puppet Shop phone line, 859.
280 2287. A Vision auto glass text machine 772, 774-745254 in this edition, sponsored by the T.J. Smith law office. You call T.J. I'll make them pay. It is an absolutely beautiful day. Again, a week straight of beautiful days. When we come to Buywater Farms, though, we've had a lot of different weather. We've had it actually be really cold here before. We've had it rain here before when we were outside. And today we get a new thing. It's going to be hot. If you look, our crowd is spread out as
Some of them are in the shade.
Some of them have umbrellas.
I like these folks right here sticking it out on these egg carts.
You guys, if you get through the whole thing sitting on those, I'm going to be very impressed.
My man's getting a sun tan here, suns out, guns out.
But we are at Bywater Farms where every autumn, they have Autumn Fest.
It is, what's the phrase?
It's a venture, it's not venture tourism.
It's, what do you call it, Ryan?
I don't know.
No, thank you for being right there ready for me.
It is like fall tourism.
But Autumn Fest, this is their 30th year, and I'm going to give you some of the things they have.
Okay.
They have a pumpkin cannon.
They have a jumping pillow, paintball shooting, kids' ziplines, pumpkins for you to carve, fudge, pies, a scary haunted house.
It's all there, Drew, since you would be more helpful than Ryan just saying, I don't know.
But go ahead.
This is actually where I get my pumpkins every year.
I was sitting here with a list for after the show.
Got to get some apple butter.
Always like coming out here.
You're a big pumpkin carving.
aren't you? Not carve them, but you've got to put them on the porch. I haven't carved one in
about 30 years, but this is where I load up for my, getting into the festive spirit.
It's fault. We turn to fall. I just have one request, and I mean this. We've been here,
like, what, three or four or the last? Yeah, something like that. I just really want to see this
pumpkin cannon one time. So is it possible for anybody here that's listening that runs this place
that we could actually. I don't think they could shoot it out here next to the road. That would
probably be dangerous. Wherever they shoot it, I just want to see it happen one time.
Yeah, well, we'll see. I bet we can make that.
happen for you.
They get the trolley and take you out there and see it.
Let's go.
Yes.
So they're all here.
Hay rides and a lot more.
If you've never been to buy water farms, you should.
It's a great.
A lot of people come every year and we are here today.
They give, what is that, spice apple cider donuts?
Yes.
So great.
Every year.
All right.
A lot of stuff to get to today.
Like a ton of stuff.
First of all, Jimmy Dykes is going to be here later.
You know, I don't usually do a lot of guests, but Jimmy saw the UK basketball team practice, Ryan.
yesterday. Very few people have seen that outside of the inner circle and a handful of former
players. He's going to let us know what to expect. He seemed excited on social media about what he saw.
And that's good that he's going to come here because, you know, I think Tom Hart told us one time some
things that we didn't really know about a team. And I think we'll hear that today. I think he'll
probably surprise us with some facts about maybe a guy or the way they're playing that we weren't
expecting to hear from him. And then UK Ohio play football tomorrow. I said to this crowd, Drew,
before we started, I was like, I want to hear some energy because we're going to need that tomorrow.
And I think they did a good job.
But tomorrow at 1245 Kentucky plays Ohio, we're a lot better.
But actually, they're not awful.
So Kentucky is going to have to show up tomorrow.
They're going to have to show up.
You know, because of the last two weeks, they've put a little pressure on themselves.
Where in a lot of cases, this is when you just get a win and get out of there.
But I think the offense, they don't just need to win.
They need to score several touchdowns.
They need to get some confidence in themselves.
You need to find themselves.
need to prove to the fans they can do it.
But after two weeks of not getting the end zone,
I think they need to be in at least the 30s
tomorrow against Ohio. That's the thing for me, Shannon.
I got to see this team score.
Right? I mean, they scored in the first week,
but that was a weird game with the lightning
and then stop, start, stop, start.
Haven't scored a touchdown last
two games, you've got to be excited
about the defense in the Georgia game, but I think
everybody's going to be watching tomorrow to go,
can we put the ball in the end? That's it. Yeah, we're not
concerned at all about the defense, but on
offense. There's a lot of questions. I think maybe this is the first game where we truly get to
see what we have in Brock Vandergruff. Yeah, it's also Parents Weekend. Let me ask a question. How many
of you all are going to the game tomorrow? Well, that worries me a little bit. Yeah, you know,
I do, but I was a little worried about the crowd for the Georgia game and it ended up there,
so hopefully tomorrow does as well. Also, I need to clarify, I made an error on yesterday's show. I gave the
weather forecast, and I missed it by about 30 degrees. How did you do that, by the way? My app was set to Maine. I'm
going to Maine in two weeks, so my
weather app was still on Portland, did notice
that. So if anyone wanted the weather for Portland,
Maine, it's on yesterday's show. You said 55
to 65 degrees. Should have caught that in real time, but you know,
live radio, and I didn't realize my
app was still in Maine. Why is your
weather app set to Maine? I'm just said, I'm going
to Maine in two weeks during the by week.
Okay. Go check out some locks. So, that's where I got
off by about 30 degrees yesterday. So 90 degrees
tomorrow. I mean, it could be
it could be one of the hotter
games that we've had. You know, sometimes
that very first game will be really hot.
But tomorrow, if you want sun and you want to have a nice day out,
you're going to have it because it's probably going to be toasty tomorrow.
Yeah, and we said the parents' weekends.
I think there'll be a decent crowd out there.
And I think people are excited again about the team.
I think it took that close game against Georgia to get us kind of back on board with the team.
So I think the crowd won't be a sellout, but I think I'll have a really good crowd.
And we won't be home for a while.
It's at the end of the 4-Gat-Sand to start the year.
I mean, this is the only game you have to go to the end.
of October for another home game.
So, I mean, you're basically going to have a month where they're gone.
I mean, they play one game in October.
They play the Vanderbilt game, and then that's it.
So, like, if you want to, it's going to be a while before you see this team play at home
and, you know, Ole Miss on the road next week, then a buy.
So actually, that's also, I think, as much of a good reason to do it as any.
I don't know how much you all follow news, but, yes.
Yesterday was one of the weirder news days.
And I'm bringing all this up, not even really, well, not to joke about it, because
there's serious situations, but there's a lot happening in this state.
And I think we'd be remiss if we don't know what happened down in, in Lechard County,
where a sheriff walked in to the clerks, to the, excuse me, to the judge's chambers
in Lechard County and shot dead, a judge in Lechard County.
you know, it's a very sad situation all the way around.
There are a lot of stories around it.
I don't really want to get into all of it because I don't know what is and isn't true.
But I do know I had somebody write me last night and say both of those people, as you would assume, a sheriff and a judge were extremely well known in the community.
Everybody knew who they were.
And as somebody said to me, Letcher County is absolutely completely torn up today.
and I'm sure that's true.
I mean, when you see that headline,
Ryan, that is an insane headline out of,
from Eastern Kentucky.
It is.
It's a very sad situation.
You know, somebody didn't go home last night.
Violence is never the answer,
but to be two stellars of the community,
like apparently the sheriff is like beloved by that community down there.
So it's just, it's very sad.
We need to keep both those families in your prayers.
You would think, too, in a courthouse.
That's the one place you could feel safe.
Well, in a courthouse, the one person who's allowed to bring in a gun is the sheriff, right?
So, I mean, you have, it's a, it's a wild situation.
Then there's a story of a representative in Louisville.
I don't know if you saw that, Shannon, a representative in Louisville, state rep, allegations that he,
he's had allegations for a while, and then he got, he got, like, kicked out of a strip club for inappropriate behavior as state rep.
And then you also had last night, Robert Kennedy, a reporter following Robert Kennedy's campaign,
is alleged to have had a romantic relationship with Robert Kennedy.
Both of them are married.
It feels like to me when I was at home, that the world is falling off its axis with weird stories.
It's almost like a Madlib's headline.
Every single day, something stranger continues to happen.
I missed all those headlines, except for the judge getting shot.
I was at Bourbon and Beyond Fest.
But, yeah, it sounds like a lot was going on yesterday in the world.
That's a lot going on, I feel like for one day.
Well, and like I guess on TMZ or one of these sites,
two of the top four stories involved Kentucky with...
Yeah, I feel bad for Fred and Sheila McCoy.
They deserved a lot more time in the sun.
And unfortunately, Fred and Sheila McCoy got Drew taken out of the headlines yesterday.
I feel like they had another 48 hours of media tour
that they were going to be able to do that just completely went away.
They didn't even do the daytime TV tour yet.
I was just about to add that...
Yeah, I was like, they're going to be able to do.
to be on Good Morning America?
I still haven't gotten over Old Atlanta yet, and they're just throwing me more and more stories.
One of the time, please.
I'm a new subscriber to their YouTube channel.
Oh, you are.
I went back and watched the full video, the 30-minute video and another video or two on there.
What kind of video was that?
Well, he was just explaining, like, you know, everything that happened behind the scenes.
And he also.
What did he say?
Well, I was talking about the fact that there was so many media outlets that were trying to reach out
and that they felt bad because they couldn't respond to all of them, which I understood.
Yeah, we were one of us.
Everybody with their podcast, too, I'm sure.
But it's a fascinating watch for anybody who wants to check it out.
Well, I feel bad.
They should have gotten more time in the spotlight.
But with all of that said, probably the story that was, to me, the most annoying was Louisville football coach Jeff Brom.
Yesterday, Jeff Brom was doing an interview on another radio station in which he basically,
said he was talking about their season last year, and I think he was maybe talking about
how close they were to getting the playoff or something.
I'm not exactly sure what the point was.
But in the process, he said the phrase, you know, and then we played a game here where
somehow SEC officials didn't find a way to call any penalties on the other team, blah, blah,
blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Essentially whining about the officials.
Now, you may remember, I said this a couple weeks ago about the deployment.
bait, and I've said it about many things. When you are complaining about the refs, what did you do?
You lost, all right? That's why when we were complaining about the interception call against
Georgia, whether it was right or wrong, what happened, Shannon? We lost. We lost. When you
complained about the refs, you lost. But for Jeff Brom, it annoys me even more, Drew. That team,
that Louisville team was what?
10 and 1 when they came in?
Am I right about that?
9 in 2 or 10 and 1?
9 and 2, 10 and 1, whatever it was.
We were a dog on their field.
They were up 10 points in the fourth quarter.
They got, I think, three turnovers in the game,
and they had no penalties.
But here's a little secret.
We only had three penalties.
They only called three on Louisville,
and two of them were for people punching
us in the face, which weren't as it wasn't even
in dispute. So really,
they only called one
penalty in the game.
Now, that may be good or that may be bad,
but it's not cheating if you
call one penalty the whole game
on either team. Drew,
I thought when Scott Satterfield
was gone with his, please don't
do the L's down, that's mean, that we
were going to be done with these Louisville coaches
whining, and now the new one is already doing it.
It's just that position. I guess it comes
with it. You know, it's been
10 months. We're at week four, the college football season, and he's complaining about
SEC reps in that game and how Kentucky got the favorable whistle. Why did you kick it to
Barryon Brown? What about all the turnovers? Yeah, what about all the turnovers? I mean,
they lost at home, fair and square. At home. And it was last season, and he's talking about it
in mid-September of the following year. It's just something with that program. I don't know what it is.
And, you know, everyone will tell you he's a great guy, but he's starting to show his colors as the Louisville
head coach. It's what they do. He might say. He might.
He might be a great guy, but great guys can whine.
And he's a whiner.
It looks like following in the tradition of all the other winers they have.
Everyone they get there must complain and whine.
What really makes them mad, right?
Is that they can go 10 and 1 this year.
And yet, when we go into that game, we can be 4 and 7.
And we still think we're going to beat them.
And we probably will still beat them.
And it annoys them that there's not anything they can do.
that will not make us say, you know what, when we play you in that last game, we are going to beat you.
I love it.
I'm so happy when I read that.
I want the coaches to say stuff like that.
I want the rivalry.
You want him to whine?
I want him to have a little spark.
I want him to have a little bit.
It gives us fodder for our show.
I want Jeff Braun to be a guy I don't like.
You know, I want him to say stuff like that.
Well, I wish he wouldn't whine.
I'm one thing for trash talk.
But whining is the most annoying thing.
And I've, you know, say whatever you want about Bobby Petrina.
But that dude would just come out and say, we're going to beat you, right?
And then he might, they've had a string of coaches going from Chris Mack to Satterfield that just whine and complain all the time.
And I love it.
I don't love it.
I think it's lame.
But I also would say, I think the Kentucky players and coaches have to be like, these dudes.
We're already in their head.
The game hadn't even played here.
That's what I was about to say, rent-free.
I mean, we're in week, what, four?
And this is the last game of the year, and we're already talking about it.
Yeah, I mean, they're about to open up ACC Play Saturday,
and he's still whining about a game that happened last year.
I find that to be very hilarious.
859-28027.

What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano,
and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs
without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash will get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball.
Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.

This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Now here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio, here live at Buywater Farms.
We got a couple open lines.
859-280-2287.
The text machine is 772-774-5254.
One person writes, Matt, you're at Buywater Farms.
I love it.
Every time I go out there, one of the things I love are the jokes around on the
signs. Shannon just read one.
Yeah. So read one of the, what's the joke over there?
When does a skeleton laugh? Flip that up, Mario, quick.
Flip it up. Flip it up. Flip it up. That's not quick. There you go. Go ahead, Mario.
When does a skeleton laugh? When something tickles his funny bone?
When something tickles his funny bone.
I was right on that. Yes, you guessed that. That's a terrible joke.
It is. They're good dad jokes out here.
One person writes, Matt, I would like to tell you, every UK fan I know says that UK
loses football or basketball games because of the refs.
Every game, you need to shut up.
And this is from someone that likes Louisville but still listens to your show.
We do have people that do that, Drew.
And I always say, hush.
Now, look, it's the boy who cried wolf, okay?
When you say you lose every game because of refs,
when you actually lose a game because of a bad call, I don't listen to you.
Right?
So I think the 2017 North Carolina game, I'm not going to say we lost because of John Higgins, but he was a huge part of that game.
But you can't say every game because if you do that, no one will ever believe you.
If you say everything is rigged, then if something is actually rigged, no one will believe you.
So Jeff Brom, did anyone watch that game and think they lost because it was rigged?
No, so when they complain, I have no sympathy for them.
Now, if Rick Patino wants to complain because Patrick Sparks walked and they didn't call it,
all right, I get that one.
But the rest of them, I don't understand.
And complaining about the refs, that's part of being a fan.
I'm guilty of it too.
But we're talking about the head coach of the team complaining 10 months later in week four of the following season.
That's what we're making fun of here, not the actual complaining, which is still a little funny of itself.
Why is Brom even talking about this at all?
Now, when in Kentucky sports history, right, what is the most egregious call, however, that has cost us a game that win against us?
What is the most, can you think of one that you, and 772, 774-5-254?
What is the most egregious?
One that comes out to my mind is the shot clock violation against Wisconsin in 2015.
And another one is the football game down at Florida.
where the play clock ran out and they let them do it and then scored the touchdown.
Those are the two because to me whether or not something's a foul is always a little bit of a judgment call.
But if the clock is out and the shot clock goes off and the play clock goes off, that to me is a like black and white situation.
Yeah, that's the first one I thought of was the football game down in Florida where it was obvious from the TV replays that that clock ran out and yet they didn't.
And we hadn't beaten them yet.
That's right.
That was before we had broken.
broken the streak, if you remember. That was like Stoops' third year or something. We had not broken
the streak yet. So that's one that, two that stick out to me. Do you have any more? I have one
while he's thinking. Benny Snell should have never been ejected from the Music City Bowl, and Kentucky
would have won that game. That's a good one. Yeah, I forgot about that. That's right.
He barely grazed the ref when getting up, and he tossed him, and then, you know, not having Benny
on that team. That was the end of that. Wasn't there a Florida game or there was a game? What's the
game where they called a hold on one of our offensive line.
That was Florida at home.
It took them out of field goal range.
And it took them out of field goal range.
It might have been bunchy.
I think it was bunchy.
And then it like it did.
You watched the replay and he didn't hold them, but like he got the call.
Can you got any more?
How about the, uh, the goaltending call?
Was it against LSU and basketball?
That changed the rule.
They changed the rule for that.
Yeah.
I think that call was right.
But it should like they ended up changing the rule because of it.
Did Leitner get teed up or stepping on, was it Timberlake?
Yeah, I mean you did.
Yeah, but there are people who think he should have gotten kicked out.
Yeah, like, okay, so either way you want to play it, either he should have been.
I mean, Leitner, Leitner essentially, like, if Leitner had just punched him.
Yeah.
He's kicked out.
And then the game is.
And then we win the game.
But he steps on him.
I don't know, do you think stepping on someone is as bad as punching them?
Yeah, I'd say it's equally as bad.
When he's laying on his back, yeah, and he kind of stopped on his chest there.
Yeah, but then that wouldn't have become one of the most legendary games of all time if they don't do that.
That's true.
Yeah, 859-28027.
If you have some more times in the past, we've gotten absolutely screwed.
Who's up next?
Justin.
Justin.
Justin, go ahead, Justin.
Yes.
I would like to see for progress this week, I want to see Brock Van degriff throw at least 200 passing yards.
What do you need to see for?
progress. Yeah, I want to see, you know, he's got to be given the opportunity, Drew, to throw for
200 yards. It depends on what the past plays are. But what I want to see is we've got stud, in theory,
receivers out there with Dane and Berion and Macklin. And now we've seen this Fred Farrier kid
develop. I just want to see them use those playmakers more. And I assume that's going to be
through the pass, but whatever.
Like, I just, I mean, we cannot just hand it to Demi Sumo Carmbay all year and think we're
going to be, by the end, he'll be hurt if you do that by the end of the year.
Like, we've got to use those playmakers.
Yeah, you can't just switch to an air raid overnight.
They're going to have to use the run to set up the pass, but the last two games,
they haven't even been able to attempt it.
They haven't had the time.
They will in this game, and Ohio's passing defense has been pretty bad.
Week one, they went to Syracuse.
That's the most comparable opponent, and their quarterback had 350.
yards and four touchdowns.
So if Syracuse can do it, I don't see any reason why Kentucky can't put up similar numbers.
Well, let's say, if it's 200 yards, it's 200 yards, over under Brock throws for 200 yards.
That would be over.
I would be going over.
I would definitely go over because I think that's the one element.
They proved they can run the ball.
They ran the ball, had 200 yards against Georgia for crying out loud.
All right, we need to make sure the passing game.
Everything about the passing game.
The line, Brock, receivers, everybody has to have a good game on Saturday.
And the Southern Miss game, you know, they took four shots consecutively down the field.
It'd be nice to see some of that tomorrow.
I'd love to see.
He's got the arm.
I mean, he doesn't have like a 90-yard cannon arm, but he's got an arm to get it downfield.
You're going to love this.
Richie Farmer is listening on streaming.
And, you know, when you stream, for those of you listen on stream, it's about a minute to a minute and a half behind.
He writes me and says, you've got to say Christian Leitner stomping our guy not getting it ejected as number one.
And then a minute later, I'm sorry, I'm behind.
There we go.
Richie was in the game, and Richie thinks that is the one where we got screwed to most.
I love the fact that Richie has said he's never watched that game.
I think he finally sat down just a couple years ago, but for 20 years or more,
he never sat down to rewatch that game.
Yeah.
I like this one.
Texas A&M.
Isaac Humphreys.
Oh, yeah.
Isaac Humphrey's getting the ball.
Remember, he slams it down and then kind of loses.
He wasn't trying to slam.
He was like bouncing it to himself, and then it gets away from him,
and they call it technical.
That was a big one.
That was on a, like, Saturday night primetime game.
It would have won the game, and he would have been the star.
He would have been the hero.
And we probably would have gotten seated higher in the tournament.
That was a loss that really hurt us in the tournament seating as well.
That is a big one.
859-28027.
We'll take a break here with all the pumpkins at Bywater Farms.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J., he'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back.
Tugey Sports Radio here live at Bywater Farms in Georgetown.
Tomorrow the game is at 1245.
Our pregame show will start at 8.30, goes from 830 to 1030.
KS Bar is opening at 9 and we're serving breakfast, which is not something we do a lot.
I have to say, I really like our breakfast.
It is good.
I wish we did it more because I think it's so good.
So we will open.
So we'll be doing the show at 830.
The doors will open at 9.
The shuttles start running at, I think,
at 10. So it'll be
show 830,
doors 9, shuttles 10.
Game is at 1245.
It's not at 12, it's at 1245,
so it's a little lighter. So just
keep that in mind. And assuming we win,
I'm going to do the postgame show there
after the game. If we do not win,
you will not want to see me in public
after we lose to Ohio.
I think we're going to win, so it should be all right.
A couple people on the ref call. One person
writes, Matt, what about Auburn?
Benny Snell scored a touchdown
they didn't give it to us.
That was the COVID year, Drew, right?
Chris Rodriguez.
Or, excuse me, yes, Chris Rodriguez.
They're on the goal line.
He scores, definitely scores.
Three-fourths of his body and the ball were in the end zone.
They don't give it to him.
And then Terry Wilson throws an interception that they took the other way a play later.
Yeah, I think that's a big one.
Because that game, the final score was like 10 to 9 or something, and we would, that made a big difference.
Totally forgot about that one.
But, yeah, they took that touchdown off the board, man.
That was crazy.
He fell all the way in the.
end zone with the ball. I remember Tom Hart was on the game and he's even on the broadcast going.
How is that not a touchdown? Yeah. 8-59-28027 here at Bywater Farms. Remember, this is open over the
next few weeks. All kinds of family autumn activities. You should come out and see it. Let's talk about
the blue-white game. Tickets went on sale at 10 o'clock. It is, we've had a lot of people writing
about our thoughts on it. It is a 6,000 people having it.
Memorial Coliseum. It is a fundraiser for NIL. It is a lot different than what they've done in the years past.
The tickets, the lowest price ticket is $100, but they're going to have all these interactions.
You're going to have, it's not going to be on television. It's going to be kind of a behind the scenes.
Mark Pope said it's going to be like a practice. I think it's a really good idea.
I also understand how fans would say, man, that's a lot of money for the blue-white game.
And I get it.
I also would say, though, this is kind of the world we live in.
And if you want Kentucky to basketball to be what you want it to be,
this is a one-time event they can have that actually can be a really big fundraiser.
So I think it's kind of important for the program that it works.
Do you think the fans, how do you think it's going to go?
They've just gone on sale.
Do you think we'll end up with this being a very successful event?
I'm glad Coach Pope came on yesterday and talked about how the things it was going to be, like you said, a real practice.
And the coaches are going to be biked up.
I mean, I love that part of it.
So there's a lot of things, and the fans can get up close and personal with the players.
I mean, there's a lot of positives.
But I'm like you yesterday.
Everybody kept saying, man, that's a hard one to swallow.
Steep price, no doubt.
But, you know, it's going to be your first real look at this team.
And it's going to be a competitive game.
It's going to be an actual game, not just a dunk on each side as it has been in the past.
Well, I say this all the time about.
out when we talk about prices for things, and this has come up a bunch over the years.
I totally get it if somebody says, like, I can't do it.
You know, everybody's got a different situation in life.
I totally get it.
I think what I would say is if you're somebody who thinks, like, I'm going to donate to
Club Blue.
Well, the way this works, basically, if you become a Club Blue member, you've essentially
saved about half the cost.
So if you're going to be a Club Blue member, you might as well do this.
But the second thing is, you know, I think you look at it as not everybody can be Joe and Kelly Kraft, right?
Like, not everybody can have that level.
And, I mean, I can't.
But at the same time, you've got other ways to contribute to the program.
And UK has essentially given this game.
This was used to be part of your season tickets package.
For people who bought season tickets, they used to have to pay for this game as if it was a regular game.
Then it was free for a while, and the thing about free tickets, you learn this in the music industry.
Sometimes if you have free tickets, you have no tickets.
Almost like it's a weird thing.
People would rather pay $10 than have a free ticket because people won't show up as weird as that sounds.
They don't value it as much.
They don't value it.
There's like psychological studies about how it's better to sell a ticket for $10 than to give it away for free because people don't value what's free.
And they're like, well, why should I come?
It's free.
This is expensive.
But I also think for the basketball program, it's a good one-time way to help.
I mean, they can raise, they were telling me, because some of the seats are premium,
they can raise like 20 to 25 percent of what they need for basketball NIL for the year from this event.
And that's why I do think it's so important to them.
Yeah, I sympathize for people that have gone every year on the cheap ticket and maybe can't afford this year
and it's ending tradition and they're upset because it is a big number and it's different.
I get it.
but we talk about how you got to get creative
when we keep complimenting how Tennessee does these things
to bring in more money.
I mean, this is what Club Blue is doing here.
And when we're having conversations around like a Jasper Johnson
or the next big recruit,
and is our NIL good enough,
I mean, what they're doing with the Blue White game,
making it a fundraising event is kind of what we're asking for
to get recruiting done and to help out.
So it stinks for people they can't afford it,
but it's one of those things they're just having to do
to get enough money to keep the basketball program.
6,000 tickets.
You think they'll be able to do that?
I really hope they do, but I'm a little skeptical right now.
Are you?
Oh, really?
Yeah.
I think, well, all right, so they're given, I think they're going to do 150 to students that will be like they're going to do something.
I don't know what they're going to do, but to see who the most passionate students are to get to go.
I think that's important.
So you give a chance for students to get to go.
I love that.
I think they'll end up.
I think there's going to be some that's given to local, you know, organizations.
To me, I think they'll end up doing it.
I think they'll end up being able to do it.
But I also, I mean, listen, I talked to them before it started.
I said this is going to be a tougher sale, you know.
But I think they'll be, and I think the event, I'll give this credit.
I've talked to them a lot about what they're going to do in the event.
I think it's going to be a great event.
I think it will be.
I do think what the UK's really never done anything.
like I think they're planning on doing that night.
Who's up next?
Bob and Jamestown.
Bob and Jamestown, 859-2-80-2287.
Go ahead.
Matt, I've the Harry Coggle, the late editor of the Mountain Eagle over there in
Whiteburg is spinning right now.
I mean, it's just...
I don't want to get into the detail.
I mean, it's very, very sad, Bob, and I...
But there's a lot we don't know, and I don't want to...
I say this with respect.
I don't want to be speculating, but it is very...
sad for that whole community?
All over
the state, right here in Russell County, we
had over to our deputy sheriff taking
out. It's just, I don't know.
It's a crazy
time we have right now with so many
people just acting
out, and I don't know,
we just had to pray for our
well-being in our state.
All right, Bob.
There you go.
It's true, yeah, the Russell Springs
Sheriff's deputy. Yeah. No, I mean, it's been
this has been one of the wilder weeks of news in Kentucky that I can ever remember.
I mean, just in one week, what happened in Russell County, the representative in Louisville,
what happened in Letcher County, they find the body with Fred and Sheila.
I mean, Shannon, that's one state.
That's a lot in one week.
That's enough for an entire year that we got in just a few days.
So, yeah, it's a lot of crazy news stories.
All right.
So we have done a really, really, really terrible job.
job with the KSR parley.
Oh.
I mean, not only if we not, not only if we not hit it, we've really, every week gone
one of four.
Yeah.
Okay. The great leadership books will tell you set the bar low and overachee.
But one of four is not.
We got to do better than this.
We got to do better.
So this week, I'm committed to doing better.
Okay.
All right. Let me.
I'm committed to make it.
And I have one.
I don't want to pick them.
But I also think if we're.
being honest, it's real.
All right.
Tennessee at Oklahoma, Tennessee's going to wipe the floor with them.
This is going to be a welcome to the SEC moment for Oklahoma.
Tennessee's a six-point favorite.
I think Tennessee is really good.
I don't think Oklahoma's very good.
I don't like to pick road teams in big games.
Game Day is there.
But nevertheless, you know it pains me to do it.
but for my pick, I'm going to say Tennessee covers the six.
What about you, Shand?
I think at this point, we'd all be better off just flipping a coin.
All right, so flip a coin then.
You want a big one?
I'm going to double down on my hatred for Kansas.
West Virginia is at home.
They're a two-point dog, or no, two-point favorite.
I'm going to take West Virginia minus two.
You're going to take the Mountain Mamas.
Yes.
All right.
So you're going to get, so we've got Tennessee, West Virginia.
We're doing a very Appalachian set of picks first.
Right.
Ryan.
I like both of those, actually.
So I'm going to
Don't say that.
He said that last week.
You always say that and you're always wrong.
So I'm going to go
Arkansas is at Auburn.
Auburn's a two-point favorite.
I'm taking Arkansas.
Arkansas to cover.
Yeah.
Bobby Petrino.
I mean, you did win last week.
You were the one leg that actually hit last week.
That's true.
I was only one that won last week.
Yeah.
Well, Drew and I both were big on Auburn this week.
I read a thread this morning that said only a sick person
who bet on this game.
So I love it.
I love it.
I love it.
He has had vertica.
You have had vertigo.
That's how we'll explain it.
I don't know if I like that one.
But all right, so we got Arkansas.
Again, keeping with the country theme, Arkansas, Tennessee and West Virginia.
Drew, you got the last one?
I do.
The most confident I've been in a bet was two weeks ago in this parlay.
I had Texas killing Michigan in Ann Arbor.
You were big on that.
That worked.
You know what?
Michigan's getting killed in Ann Arbor again.
Oh, wow.
USC is a four and a half-point favorite.
I think Michigan, even though they're our national champion, they have gotten much
worse on both sides of the ball.
They're in trouble. They lose another one at home.
All right. So let me ask you this. Because you picked one where you picked the team
that was the underdog, I think we could all just pick the team to win
and get the odds that are necessary. So how about we just pick them to win?
I like that. We just pick Money Line of Tennessee, Arkansas, USC, and West Virginia.
I like that. Is that good? This gives a chance to get back on track. Let's hit it.
We got to see one go in, you know? I'm not sure.
We got to be makers, not shooters.
Thank you very much, Cal.
Stop over paying for sunglasses.
Most of these people got on sunglasses.
Anybody got on Shadyrays?
Look at that.
Oh, yeah.
Look at that.
Yes.
Go to Shadyrays.
Shadyrays.com.
There's one in Lexton, one in Louisville, premium polarized shades for every activity.
They've started right here in Kentucky, and they really have taken over around the country.
They're one of the fastest growing sunglasses companies in America.
It is Shadyrays.
Shadyrays.
Try it for yourself.
like these folks here, you will continue to wear.
We'll take a break and be right back.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Last night, a blown call changed a game.
This morning, the internet lost its mind.
Highlights are trending, opinions are flying,
and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
That's where Sports Slice comes in.
I'm Timbo.
Every episode, we're cutting through the noise,
breaking down the plays, the controversies,
and the stories behind the headlines.
We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves,
their locker room stories, their reactions,
the stuff nobody gets to hear.
The laughs, the drama, the triumphs,
the moments that never make the highlight real.
From viral moments to historic games,
from buzzer beaters to controversial calls,
we break it down,
give you context and ask the questions
everybody wants answered.
Sports Slice brings you closer to the action

What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy
in the lineup, he has to really guard
guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard
Julius Randall. And then he has to give us
everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis
on offense. And when IT's friends
stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive
into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass, get that thing.
That man, hell get the fly. He run
running the court, licking his fingers, why he got the
ball, like, after you go
through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you
figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball. So, listen to

What's up, guys?
This is Clivert Taylor the 4th.

Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me.
He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue with 42.
A rep.
My mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Hey, Ms. Parker.

Hey, I'm Jordan Arano. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet.
Help! Somebody! Please! But there's so much more to me than me. I'm an actor. I'm a comedian.
And recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast,

Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
A lot of energy here. I'm glad. We're going to need it tomorrow for the game.
859-280-2287. Text machine 772-7-7-4. You said somebody gave you another good referee call.
Our boy, Billy R. Sports, came up during the commercial break. He goes, how about the game the last time we were at Ole Miss?
when Dane scored the touchdown and they took it away for the illegal.
Oh, that made you so mad?
I'm still mad about it.
I can't believe they took away that moment from Dane.
It would have won the game, lead story on the Sports Center,
an illegal formation on Barryon Brown.
By the way, there's some people telling me that the club blue code
for the blue-white tickets for the members isn't working yet.
I told the people running it.
I mean, I'm just trying to help them.
And I'm sure that will get fixed.
If it gets fixed, I will let you know.
So if you have the code and they need to get that working, because if you're a member, you need to be able to do that.
859-2-80-2287.
Big shout out to Billy R Sports.
One of only 10 people left in the KSR NFL Survivor League.
Yeah.
I hate it because of why.
Yeah, don't give him any thoughts.
I'm pulling for him.
I'm not.
I'm actually pulling for the other nine.
But we have, he's got, he's got Dan Arlofsky, he's got Slice, Vince Marrow still left, Tim Couch,
Randall Cobb, Dari Noca, Peter Burns.
A lot of people, yesterday on Fade This, I had Billy give his personal opinion, Shannon, about each person left.
And he was taking shots at these people.
Really? Wow.
Okay.
So what would Billy win when he wins the Survivor League, other than bragging rights?
That's it.
It'll be his thing.
He'll brag about it forever.
Now, you picked Tampa Bay.
Is that right?
So Billy is on Tampa Bay.
Who do they play?
Denver.
So he's got Tampa Bay trying to move on here.
This is a good chance.
He's going to move on to another week.
It's true.
Yeah, Bo Nix is struggling in Denver quarterback.
I was wondering if you guys want to start up in Survivor League.
We started to be a non-fight football.
Don't invite Bill?
You're not.
Billy's out.
Billy's out.
Who's up next?
Lee.
Lee.
Lee.
Lee.
Hey, this is Lee.
I got it.
I understood that.
Go ahead.
All right, man.
I'm going to go way back now, and I was at these games.
1975, when we lost the UCLA, I've never seen so many.
bad calls at the end of the game with John Wooden when it was blue.
You know what I'm saying?
Do you remember one in particular?
Yeah, Kevin Grevy went up and took a shot, got foul, and it would have been a three-point
play, and they called him for charging, and the guy didn't, he didn't even fall down.
It was just, but I was fraternity brothers with Jimmy Dan Conner, Kevin Greby, and Jerry
Hale, and they said it was the worst call game they've ever been in in their life.
Yeah.
All right, I appreciate the call.
A lot of people think in 1975 that the refs kind of rigged that game so that Wooden would get a chance to win his final time.
I've heard that for years and years and years that there was no way the officials were going to let John Wooden walk out of there losing his last game.
No way.
And he announced it right before, right?
He announced it right before the game.
Put the pressure on it to make sure he won.
It started to sound like a fan base that lost that game.
Yeah.
Sound like a bunch of wine.
No, no, listen.
I think he did.
Let me notice.
Again, back to my point from a couple weeks ago after the debate,
tell me a game where we complain about a call where we won the game.
Exactly.
Can you remember one?
You don't because you only complain when you lose the game,
and unfortunately, every one of these that we're doing, we lost the game.
That's fair, but part of being a fan is being a little off in the head sometimes.
No, I agree.
And finding something to blame.
If you're ranking them, if you're ranking them, the call that makes you the
maddest. Which one is it? For me, it's
2015 Wisconsin. Because I think
I think if they call that shot clock violation,
we win that game. Right. Like even the
Florida game, we probably win that football game, but it's not certain,
right? But I think we win that Wisconsin game. And then I would say
it's probably the Florida football game. And then after that,
I think we forget how bad that call was on Bunchy Stallings,
and it feels like Florida is the one that's gotten us a few times.
What would you say?
I agree with yours.
It's like your point.
We have evidence.
We have the screenshot of the clock saying zero,
and the ball still not being snapped or the ball in the player's hand.
Nigel Hayes, I think.
There's no debate.
It's not an opinion.
We can see that it was the wrong call.
So those heard a lot worse.
Yeah, fouls are up for interpretation.
When it's black and white,
and now that it doesn't happen as much because you get replayed,
but back then didn't happen.
Who's next?
Chris.
Chris, go ahead, Chris.
Hey, Matt, one question about the blue-white scrimmage.
Are they still planning to have both the men and women's teams?
It is the men and women.
Yes, they're going to, I don't know exactly how they're going to do the various things.
I think the women will play a game.
From what I understand, they're going to play four quarters of basketball, like, for the men.
I don't know if they're doing four for the women or not.
to be honest with you, in between each quarter, they'll have events that involve the fans.
I think there's going to be stuff with kids where they get a chance to like be, you know,
how Cal used to have big donors sit on the bench.
I think they'll have kids who get to do that.
I don't know.
People have asked me about autographs.
I honestly don't know because that's a lot of people.
But I do know the women are involved, but I don't know if it's a full game or not.
Got it.
Well, that makes it more appealing to me.
I've already looked at my tickets and, you know, being able to see both new coaches go through
and showcase their players.
I think that's a –
Yeah, but it is – it is men and women.
They're kind of combining the men's and women's in a blue-white game.
Thanks.
And one other thing, I think that Oklahoma game, they're going to lose.
There's no way they can't be Tennessee because High Bowl, he was dismissed, you know,
as I think they're co-o-c.
Back a few years ago and used almost like a scapegoat.
Yes.
So I think there's a lot of bad blood there, and I think he's got something to prove coming into Norman.
I think they're going to, I mean, listen, I think they're going to crush them.
I'll even go so far as to say, if you look, I appreciate the call.
You look at the rest of our schedule.
The game I am the least confident in, Drew, is Tennessee.
I think Tennessee's good.
I think the way they play offense is the hardest thing for us to defend.
I think we're going to have a real hard time scoring.
I could see us going and beat no miss.
I don't think we'll beat Texas, but I could see us.
playing them like we played Georgia, have a hard time seeing us beat Tennessee with the way they play.
Even though Tennessee has been better than Kentucky, just about every year that I've been alive,
it's been fun to make fun of their arrogance and how they're not back.
I'm a little worried how close they are to back this year.
They look to be one of the elite teams, and Nico being just out of high school,
they're going to have to get used to him.
They got two first round picks on their defensive line.
We've already seen we can't block a pass rush.
That's just going to be a tough, tough game.
We're going to take a break.
Come back.
Jimmy Dykes will join us in the second hour to talk about UK basketball.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy,

Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for band.
