Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headlines. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories,

It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano. It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast point game, the playoffs. We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season. And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments. If we didn't talk ever again, I was part of it. You just understood. That's how personal it got. Wow. Then after that game seven, Mark keep coming to. He's like,
Starting point is 00:01:25 you know I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs. This was just basketball. So listen to Point Game on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, everyone. It's Ryder Strong and Wilfredel from PodMeets World. And now the PodMeets Twirled podcast. We're two men who were completely clueless to reality TV, and we're gearing up for the season finale of Survivor. I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners by our severe lack of survivor knowledge. That is the point of the show.
Starting point is 00:01:55 I'm just going to remind you. Aha! Who? Ah, who. Again, we are experts. Listen to Pod Meets Twirled on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Your 20s can be so exciting, but they can also be really overwhelming, confusing, and honestly, just kind of lonely. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the psychology of your 20s is breaking down the science behind the biggest roadblocks we face.
Starting point is 00:02:21 I was six years into my career, the 80-hour weeks, and just the first one in, the last one out, and I ended up burning out. There was a large chunk of my 20s that I like was just so wanting to like be out of that phase out of my skin. And I just like really regret not living in the present more. You don't need to have everything figured out right now. You just need to understand yourself a little bit better. Listen to the psychology of your 20s on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. From his hilarious, watch your language tour, comedy off Broadway and Lexington, welcomes Ismo, September 20th and 21st. Then catch Stephen Ho.

Welcome back, Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287, here at the K.S. Bar and Grill where it is Wings Day, Dollar Wings All Day, and trivia here tonight. I want everybody to join me in.
Starting point is 00:03:38 It is IMAGine's 90th birthday today. Yes. Come to the bar. Happy 90th birthday. She wanted to come see our two of the show. Thank you very much. You don't know how much that means that you would want to spend your 90th birthday here. Where you from?
Starting point is 00:03:56 Winchester. All right. Well, nice to see you. dressed up, ready to go, makes us look like slob sitting over there, dressed up nice. Look at, she's beautiful, beautiful, and we're so happy you came in to celebrate. Thank you very much. Had a party at the Winchester Country Club yesterday's a surprise party. So you're with all the fancy folks there at the Winchester Country Club, and now you come here.
Starting point is 00:04:17 ESPN's Pete Thamele reporting that UNLV quarterback was verbally promised $100,000 from a UNLV assistant coach for transferring there and was given none of it. See, I'm signing with him. Don't promise him 100,000 if you don't have it. Yeah. We shouldn't give them a pass. He did his end of the deal. Again, that's assuming Thammels right, which we don't, you know, ultimately we don't know. Let's go over a couple things before I go back to the phones.
Starting point is 00:04:42 The White Sox had a chance to break the record. For most losses in history, they got their third biggest crowd of the year last night. Everybody wanted to be there to see him break the record, and then they went one. They won. They won the game. So you got to, if you're the team, if you're the fans, you can. to see them lose. So if you're a White Sox fan, do you wish you lost?
Starting point is 00:05:05 It is interesting because it might have been split. Are you there rooting to not be the worst? Are you there like, let's just be the worst? We're going to do it. Let's go all the way. I want to know how it played out because they were down two to nothing going to the bottom of the eighth, and they scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth. I wonder if their own fans were like, didn't want them to score.
Starting point is 00:05:26 It's like a witness history. So now they play again tonight. So I'm sure people, it's actually good for the White Sox. They're probably getting a couple big crowds as people try to be there for the worst, for the worst game. I give the White Sox social media credit. They're being funny. They're being like when they lose instead of putting the score up now,
Starting point is 00:05:43 they'll be like, uh, check social media. Like they're trying to make jokes about it, which is the best. But they, they disappointed all their fans last night by winning. Yes, by winning. As they tried to break the record. Do you think the players are thrown off by the crowds they've been playing? for no one for months.
Starting point is 00:06:00 You know, messing with them a little bit. Yeah, maybe so. I also wanted to talk. We talked not that long ago about, you know, there was the Trump, the assassination attempt. Right. So they put together a government group to try to figure out why did it happen? Like, why was this, why did this happen so easily? And their initial report came out.
Starting point is 00:06:24 And I wanted to bring it up because it showcases something I've said over and over about things. Basically, there were a lot of reasons, but the main reason was no one was in charge. There was a state police group. There was the Secret Service. There were local police, but no one was in charge and everybody was kind of doing their own thing and stuff slipped through the cracks, specifically this guy. So two different police officers actually IDed the guy, but they didn't feel like they were in charge of that area. And so they didn't, and they didn't So like the local police don't report to the Secret Service, the Secret Service don't report to the local police.
Starting point is 00:07:04 There was no sharing of information, and you ended up with the situation. Which, by the way, if you remember when they did the 9-11 report, was the exact same thing. There was nobody sort of in charge, and there was all this information that didn't get shared. Goes to my thing, which is ultimately, people, especially on my side of the eye,
Starting point is 00:07:23 liberals like to say everybody should get to talk. Not everybody should get to talk. There has to be somebody in. charge because when someone is not in charge you end up with stuff like this and that report basically said the problem was they said at presidential events where the president or a candidate is going there needs to be one person in charge of the event and it's not like that now for presidential candidates it is like that for the sitting president and that needs to be changed which seems perfectly reasonable perfectly reasonable that that can't happen like you said especially in an
Starting point is 00:07:55 an event like that where you have an important political figure, you've got to take precautions. You just have to. Things like that cannot happen. So Congress, this week actually passed, which I can't believe this hadn't happened yet. They're giving both Trump and Harris the presidential level of security for the rest of the campaign, which to me, I don't know why that wasn't happening before. I mean, I would argue Trump and Harris are in much more danger now than Biden is.
Starting point is 00:08:25 right because he's not running again so it seems to me that like as soon as someone is the nominee of their party Drew shouldn't they at that point be treated as if they're the president almost during that period of time I agree and especially in this case when the nominee is a someone who's already been the president I was surprised because Trump should in theory be getting former president service I thought they did it and Harris is the vice president so in theory she should be getting it I don't understand why the two of them weren't already getting that level of protection. I thought Trump would have already had it being president. And I would have thought she would have.
Starting point is 00:09:04 She's the vice president. So I don't understand why Ryan that wasn't already had. No, I was kind of the impression former president still get the presidential security. But apparently it's not the same level as the actual president, which makes sense to me unless they're running again. You know, and then I think they're back in the, because then they're right back in the, in the middle of them. Yeah, if they're just at the beach or golfing, you know, the rest of their lives, maybe not. But that's the problem. They actually said they're in the most danger.
Starting point is 00:09:31 Like when Trump golfs, they said that's when he's in the most danger, which makes sense. Think about how big a golf course is. Yeah. And there are trees everywhere like that would actually, I could see why that would be really. I read that book about him golfing and it mentions how, like, Secret Service is hiding in trees on golf courses and everywhere you can't see them when he's playing a course. Yeah. And finally. And I feel like.
Starting point is 00:09:54 So there's this guy on Barstall I like a lot named Jack. Jack Mack, I think is what he goes about. He's really good on TikTok. I've been using him. I've been trying to sort of teach Mario what I want to do on TikTok via Jack Mack, because I think he's really good at it. You call him a floating head. He's a floating head.
Starting point is 00:10:12 And he did something yesterday on the story, and he was like, why is this not a bigger story? And I kind of agree with it. All right, so the WMBA playoffs are going on. Caitlin Clark plays for the Indiana fever. Is that right? Yes. And they're playing the Connecticut Sun.
Starting point is 00:10:28 All right. So obviously it gets a lot of attention. But Jack Mack said, and I don't know if Jack Mack is right, but like I feel like he probably is, one of the players on the Indiana fever is dating one of the players on the Connecticut son. And they're playing against each other. And one of the coaches on the Indiana fever is dating.
Starting point is 00:10:50 the Indiana fever is dating one of the coaches on the Connecticut son. And he's like, how are they not talking about this? And I agree with him. Can you imagine, I mean, they're in a lesbian relationship, but they are playing against each other in the playoffs. To me, that's like a pretty amazing story, isn't it, Drew? Wouldn't you wonder what their house has to be, they live together? They live together and they're playing against each other in the play.
Starting point is 00:11:20 playoffs like I want that reality show don't you it's like is she at home watching film and you're kind of sticking your head around the door watching her watch film or are you going getting bad are you talking about the game and is she going like we got to take it to my girlfriend she's weak on the left side like she can't guard that side of the of the court I how's that not a bigger story I don't know and I don't know how they're living together during their playoffs they're playing with each other one of them's got to check out stay in a hotel no or a week or something Apparently, the Connecticut player plays in Connecticut. The game is in Connecticut.
Starting point is 00:11:57 And people were like, well, we wonder if the Indiana player is staying in the Connecticut house. Wouldn't you wonder that? I would. And I don't think I could. I think I'm going to try to beat you tomorrow night. Well, if I'm the coach of Indiana, I think I'm saying to my player, I'm sorry, you can't stay there tonight. So anyway, I'm with Jack Mack. I think that's a really fascinating story.
Starting point is 00:12:20 I didn't know anything about it except for his floating head there on the two coaches that date each other. You know, they're talking strategy. What are you going to talk about now? I don't think you can't. You can't. They always make a big deal when the Harbaugh brothers coach against each other. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:35 This is even closer than that. So there's reports that the players even engaged. Like, that's how close they are. Like living together in one home. That's got to be so weird. Do you know they have to guard each other during the game and play the same position? Yes, there's a video of them after the game coming up and like hugging each other and also talking a little trash and saying, I see you at home or something?
Starting point is 00:12:53 Do they trade jerseys and then frame them at home like players in the NFL do? All right, who's next? Po. Po, how are you, Po? I am okay, guys. How are y'all? Good. Good.
Starting point is 00:13:05 That would never, that would be a huge story in the NBA. Well, but it should be. I feel like it should be a story anywhere because I think it's crazy. I mean, it's not crazy bad. It's just quite a situation, but go ahead. Yeah. I had something to say. say this, I knew this NIL and this transfer portal is going to kind of rock college sports,
Starting point is 00:13:27 at least until they get it together. But he still would have got, you got to think what's worth what a UNLV scholarship is worth, too. Yeah, but again, if that's, sir, I don't know what you do, but let's say you work and you agreed to a salary of $200,000 a year, at your job. And they paid you $50,000. I don't think you would say, well, at least I'm getting $50,000. You would say you promised me $200,000.
Starting point is 00:14:05 So just because he's getting room and board, I don't think alleviates them from the promise that they made, if assuming what he's saying is correct. And education. But yeah, but I was going to ask you about, to. Okay. And the lifetime contract a long time ago that he was supposed to get to see,
Starting point is 00:14:26 still get that million dollars a year. No. So what's amazing about Cal leaving, and I appreciate the call, is he forfeited, he forfeited all of that. I mean, Cal leaving was a fairly astounding economic decision because he gave up however much was left on the contract. And I think that was what? How much money was $60 million?
Starting point is 00:14:49 It was, it was a. a lot of money. And had he finished his career here, he was going to get a million dollars a year for life. And he gave all of it up. That's gone. The lifetime part, the ambassador role, all gone. I think the reason why the reports came out on Sunday he was taking the job.
Starting point is 00:15:15 And by Monday, he was still walking up and down the street with his dog. I don't think. I know he was reconsidered. He went to UK and said, Kent, are you cool with me stay? And UK said, no, we're not. Which is an amazing thing to do. There should be a 30 for 30 about those 48 hours.
Starting point is 00:15:39 Yeah. I know more than is public about it, but I'm sure I don't know everything. But they went from Sunday. Cal saying yes to Arkansas to, in my opinion, him having second thoughts, trying to get the Kentucky job back. Mitch Barnhart, say whatever you want about him being conservative and kind of like not embracing change. I have some of those criticisms. But it's pretty, excuse my language, I'm a jean, pretty ballsy to sit and look at them and say, no, you're not coming back.
Starting point is 00:16:16 and then Cal gave up all of that money for the rest of his life. Now, he's going to do fine at Arkansas. I'm not crying for him, Drew, but that's a pretty amazing decision. Some might say that's called fumbling the bag a little bit. He had quite a bit of money, and I'm of the belief. A lot of regret there. I don't think he ever thought it would get this far. I think he thought, I would bet a lot of money that he thought when he came back on Monday,
Starting point is 00:16:46 UK was going to be grateful for him coming back and was going to allow him to do what he wanted to do, which was hire Brad, which was get a practice facility, all this stuff. And when UK said, no, I think he was shocked,
Starting point is 00:17:02 which is when I think he went on his walk with his dog, kind of thinking maybe the fans would go, oh, he's still here. And it didn't really happen. The ground swell of support didn't happen. And Ryan, I think he was taken aback by it.
Starting point is 00:17:14 I'm with you. And I don't know this, but I think he thought the crowd, the fans were going to get behind him. I don't think he really realized how much the fan base had kind of turned on him. He did not realize it. He thought he had no idea. He, I genuinely think he thought it was me that was driving. I know that's what he thought.
Starting point is 00:17:38 And he, I think, thought that that Monday, the fans would go, let's save it. And then they didn't. Didn't. And I think that, to me honest, probably hurt him. And it would hurt me, too, if I was him, if I'm being honest. But that 48 hours should be a documentary. Unintested. I agree.
Starting point is 00:17:59 It isn't unanticipated. That 48 hours, I wish I could get, like, everyone on the record saying what really happened. Because I think it'd be. And what went down to that meeting when they went to his house. They went to his house. They went to his house, Mark Hill and someone else. I don't know who the other was. Mitch didn't go.
Starting point is 00:18:15 they went to his house and I'd love to wouldn't you love to have that video? Yeah. All right, tell me about Stockton Mortgage. You know, great people to work with. And it's always a good time to buy and I'm going to tell you that to the day I die. There's all across the state. They're growing up paying you.
Starting point is 00:18:29 I'm still going to promote them because they're good people. I'm kidding. Well, you know, it is an endorsement. It is an endorsement, yeah. They're, you know, they've expanded outside of Kentucky. So even folks that don't live in Kentucky, you can still use Stock to Mortgage for your loan needs, whether you're going to build a home, maybe you're going to add on a deck. or a pool in the back of your house.
Starting point is 00:18:46 Maybe you're going to finish your basement. Stockton Mortgage can help you with a cash out refinance even if you don't live in Kentucky. They're all over Kentucky, but they're also outside of Kentucky. So give them a call, Stockton Mortgage, NMLS, 8259, equal housing lender. We'll take a break. Be right back. This KSR. Last night, a blown call changed a game.
Starting point is 00:19:03 This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise. breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear.
Starting point is 00:19:25 The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. Sports slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Sliced Life 12 and the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. American soccer is about to explode. The World Cup is coming.
Starting point is 00:19:58 Ramers sending on to Ernie Stewart for Chip. I'm Ta Bamos. I'm Tom Bo. On our podcast, Inside American Soccer, you'll get the real storylines. I'm not worried about Polisic. I'm not worried about Balligan. I'm not worried about McKinney. My only concern is what happens in the back.
Starting point is 00:20:21 The biggest decisions. If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team. And the truth about the U.S. national team. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals. The World Cup is almost here. Experience it all with us.
Starting point is 00:20:44 Listen, Inside American Soccer with Tom Bogart and Tab Ramos on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast, Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
Starting point is 00:21:07 His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series. because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us
Starting point is 00:21:29 on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the bar like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah,
Starting point is 00:21:46 you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. There are times when the mind becomes a difficult place to live. This is David Eagleman with the Inner Cosmos podcast, and for Mental Health Awareness Month,
Starting point is 00:22:06 we're dedicating a series to understanding the mind when it struggles. I'm joined by doctors, researchers, and those with lived experience. We'll talk with singer-songwriter Jewel about anxiety. I started living in my... car and then my car got stolen. I was shoplifting, I was having panic attacks, I was agoraphobic. And making it through hardship. To be present is a learned skill and it's hard to be present. We'll talk with John Nelson about clinical depression and the brain implant that saved his life. What I learned is that procedure made me happy because I'm disease-free.
Starting point is 00:22:43 And we'll talk with leading experts like Judd Brewer about anxiety and John Hirschfield about obsessive compulsive disorder and the science of how the brain can change. This is a month of deeply personal and honest conversations about what happens when the brain goes off course and what we can do about it. Listen to Inner Cosmos on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Agency, the ability to know that we're the experts in our own body. On the podcast, cultivating her space, Dr. Dom and Terry Lulmec, create a space where black women can show up fully and be heard.
Starting point is 00:23:26 I wholeheartedly think, you know, you hit 30, you shouldn't have to share one with anybody. Mm-hmm. From navigating friendships and healing to setting boundaries and prioritizing your mental health. These are real honest conversations. We don't always get to have out loud. Totally unreasonable with different parts of life, right? Like, oh, have all three meals and make sure you're mindful during all of them?
Starting point is 00:23:48 Absolutely not. During one meal, I'm standing. That's not realistic. I'm standing and handing my children food. Because healing, empowerment, and resilience aren't just ideas. Their practices. And this Mental Health Awareness Month, there's no better time to pour back into yourself. Listen to cultivating her space on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:24:17 Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. What was that? Do that again? You didn't get that, did you, Shannon? Oh, you know I did. That'll be on the podcast. I don't think you got that. I don't think you got it.
Starting point is 00:24:27 What person writes on the text machine? Here you go. 772-77-45-254. Besides the Calipari 48-hour story, give me some more behind-the-scenes documentaries of Kentucky sports stories you'd like to see. I'm sure you'd like to see the Randolph-Morris facts story. That's my first answer every time this comes up. You always bring that up.
Starting point is 00:24:47 You like that one. Yes. I want the fight that allegedly happened on the airplane. I definitely want the airplane fight. The airplane fight is one that I would love. That's the Corey Sears and Gerald Fitch. Gerald Fitch fight on the airplane. Had their land in Knoxville on the way back?
Starting point is 00:25:05 Emergency landing due to a fight on the team plane. That's one that I would really like. I'd like to see if there were video of all the discussions about Shaden Sharks. That's exactly what I was going to say. That's a good one. I'd like to see all the conversations that were had between the agents, the family, the player, Cal about Shaden Sharp. I'd like that one. I'd like to see a behind-the-scenes documentary of what really happened on that Oscar severe team, the one that lost to Kansas State.
Starting point is 00:25:36 I think that that team should have been really good, and it all fell apart, and I'd be kind of interested why that was also the Shaden Sharp year. That's all the same year. Wow. I'd be interested to see. that would have been a good one for a hard Knox to be following that team. Is there any others you can take up? What about football? Claude Bassett.
Starting point is 00:25:55 I have a good one for football. I actually wrote about this recently. When Stoop's team won in Knoxville and it was Slarman's last game. That would be great. Just the whole trip. You know, they stopped in Cumberland for the practice, the pregame speech, kicking the ball's ass in Knoxville with all the pick six interceptions. I think that would be a fun one to say that would be a really good one.
Starting point is 00:26:14 I'm trying to think what else is. Billy Gillespie, of course. I mean, that whole thing. Yeah, if you could just have had a Billy Gillespie helmet cam during his entire life. Or especially that last day when he was supposedly driving around town. No, the Billy Gilles. Yes, that's a great one. I'd like to have Billy Gillespie.
Starting point is 00:26:29 I'd like to start at the NIT game versus Notre Dame. When Jody Meeks refused to come out for the second half and they had to literally go, like the assistant coaches had to beg him to come out. He was so mad at Billy. Yeah. And they got him to come back out. if you go back and look when the team first comes out, he's not there. And then they get him to come back. Then he gets fired, but they can't find him.
Starting point is 00:26:55 And he's just driving around Lexington, I guess, thinking if they can't find me, they can't fire me. And then Alan Cutler chasing him. And then the reports that Billy Donovan was in town or on his way in town, like that would be another one, Ryan. I'd love to see what was actually going on. There are so many like this that we could just have the behind-the-scenes stuff going on. Like I said, I like this with
Starting point is 00:27:18 Claude Bassett, Mickey DeMoss. I mean, there's a bunch of these stories out there. The Mickey DeMoss one. That's a great one. Like, I have no idea what's true on that one. For the Gillespie one, can I put in a request for like Officer Donne Sky Cam with Billy just driving around New Circle? Like we're kind of chasing him like an LA police chase. Well, I have heard, and I don't know if this is true. Let me be clear. I don't know if this is true.
Starting point is 00:27:39 But I've heard that there was a point where you, where someone from UK. Headlight was driving to his house, saw him pull out, kind of followed him, and he lost him. Like they were trying to follow him and he lost him, which is also amazing. We needed the aerial view. I mean, that's an OJ situation. That's an amazing story. What did you really think he was going to do just drive around New Circle Road and they would just forget about trying to fire him? I think that's, I think that would be fascinating to know.
Starting point is 00:28:08 So those are all good. I'm trying to think, is there any other Cal era? I'd actually love to see in real time the 24 hours before Mark Pope got hired. Yeah. Because there was a lot like, well, first of all, let's take those four days. Scott Drew is, I don't know if he was going to come, not come, but his wife and kids come to Lexington. A scouting trip.
Starting point is 00:28:35 He does not. That's kind of interesting. Like, how did that? Why did that happen? Then, you know, they show him, her around. etc. Then they decide to go try with Danny Hurley. Don't forget the Mexican restaurant. Yeah, there's the Mexican restaurant. Then they go try to decide to get Danny Hurley. He says no. And then there's like a 24-hour period where I think a lot of names got floated. Some names were specifically told by the president and the Board of Trustees no.
Starting point is 00:29:05 And then like that decision-making process would be fascinating to see how they ended up with Mark Pope in that scenario. I remember you texted us that night. He said, it's going to be Mark Pope. I remember I was just, I was stunned because of what we had just gone through that whole week. I was, at that moment, we're going to be honest, I was stunned. I would not want to have had a camera in my bedroom when I got the phone call that it was Mark Pope because I'd be embarrassed at what, because I had been told a few hours earlier it was likely to be someone else. and I think I had kind of gotten my hopes up that it would be the other one.
Starting point is 00:29:45 And then when I got the phone call, assuming I was being told it was going to be the other one, I was very disappointed and kind of had a negative reaction. And I regret that. And I said to Mark Pope when I saw him, I was like, you may have seen a couple of the tweets that I sent right after it happened. He said, I did.
Starting point is 00:30:08 He said, and he said, I'd probably have. had to say for him. That's what's good about him, man. It is. He really has an attitude that is, the attitude is perfect for here. I hope we win, because if we win, it's going to be a lot of fun with him, Drew. Yeah. I mean, I compared him to going to steak, ows, an order, and chicken tenders that night on Twitter. Yeah. And I wish I had those tweets back because that wasn't, that wasn't fair to him. We should have given, I mean, once the decision was made, and to be fair, we all got it out of our system, not just us, but the fans. There were a lot of fans that felt the same way. Everybody got it out of their system and then three days later we had that event in Rupp Arena,
Starting point is 00:30:47 which was one of the coolest things. I mean, that's one of the coolest things I've seen as a Kentucky fan. Me too. So that was a good question. We'll take a few more calls and then I'm going to give away these tickets in a minute. This is KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back to Tegi Sports Radio 859-280-2287. One person writes, Matt, I'd want to see Bill Parcells.
Starting point is 00:31:15 I'd want to see the documentary about that. They swear Bill Parcells was on a plane coming here. You believe it? I believe parts of that story, and I think Mitch Barnhart was at the UK U of L basketball game in Freedom Hall on the phone when he got the call from Bill Parcells that he wasn't coming that day.
Starting point is 00:31:34 That would be an interesting one. That would be a good one. the guy here with Imaging notes, I'd like to go back and relive the morning of the Pope hire that remote because I walked in. That was over there at the distillery district or barrel house. Talk about barrel house getting lucky. We were already scheduled to be there that day. And there were a ton of people there.
Starting point is 00:31:59 Pope gets hired the night before. And when I get there, Shannon and Billy are kind of ranting about the hire. understandably, the mood in the crowd is not positive. It's not positive. There are a ton of people there. And over the course of the two hours, the mood about the pope hire completely flipped. It did.
Starting point is 00:32:21 And by the time I left, it felt like everybody was in. And all that had happened in those hours were the crafts pledging $5 million to NIL, Mitch's interview, which in my opinion is as good an interview as he's done, since he's been the coach at contend. and then Petino's video comes out of him, you know, saying he'll give money and all this. And by the time I walked out, it felt like the crowd was into it. And two days, and that's when Barnhart announces the press conference. I think he announced it on this show that they were going to do the press conference in Rupp Arena.
Starting point is 00:32:58 And it was like the psychology of the room just flipped during those two hours. Yeah. And I also want to add, I think we had some callers that day. that we're going through it like we were and really helped, I think, everybody else like, hey, man, this is our guy. I'm going to get behind him. I'm going to get on board with this. Yeah. And now I think it seems like the right hire, which is an amazing, amazing switch.
Starting point is 00:33:21 Who's next, Shane? Mike. Mike, go ahead, Mike. Yeah, what's up, man? How you all done? Good. Quick little thing about the kid with the football. You know, if his family has more than the kids.
Starting point is 00:33:36 like, man, somebody lies to you, you know, and I don't blame him for walking away. Really, he's not going to lose much because they're not going to give him no money. That's a good point, yeah. Well, I mean, and you look at it this way, I heard one guy say about the scholarship. Well, guess what? Maybe they've seen how good a quarterback he is. So if another bigger school picks him up, you know, wants him come play for them, he's going to get money. but then again it also shows to the next kid maybe coming to you nLV
Starting point is 00:34:12 hey y'all better watch out because these people are lied to you in a heartbeat i totally agree me that's why i said i think the angles are all really good points sir i appreciate the call it's not just the money let me just in general ryan if somebody lies to you you want to keep you want to keep working or spending time with somebody that lies to your face that's tough right it's very tough and i can see why like i said There's a frustration on his fart and his family's part. On his part. I'm not saying there was a frustration on his fart?
Starting point is 00:34:42 Well, maybe that plays into it, too. He's got that stress gas. I didn't want to tell you something. Did you know there was a KSR club at South Laurel High School? I think we've heard that before. It's a high school club at South Laurel where they listen to KSR. Yeah, they haven't had a chance to do it yet this year because they had school canceled for like a week and a half of the shooting down there.
Starting point is 00:35:05 but they go in as a club, listen to segments of our show, and then break down those segments and talk about, yes, they do. Do they really? Yes, they do. I love it. Yeah, I was down there yesterday, I have a sports marketing class, and a KSR club, and they do. They take segments of our show.
Starting point is 00:35:22 Ms. Seismore down there is like a big fan, and they listen to parts of the show, and then they break it down as a class, as a club. Well, first of all, Ms. Seismore, that's awesome. A KSR club at South Florida High School. Yeah. That is very cool. Well, if you ever want, if the school will let us, we'll come and do a show at the KSR Club at South Lohar High School.
Starting point is 00:35:42 I've never seen it. So reach out to Billy, Ms. Sysmore. Billy is the scheduler, and we'll come and we'll do a show down there if they want us to. That would be nice. Ms. 4 had me come down and speak to her sports marketing class, and she brought the KSR club with her when the cafeteria today. Shout out to the South Laurel KSR Club. Who's next? Andrew.
Starting point is 00:36:01 Andrew. Go ahead, Andrew. First time, long time. Who are? So my girlfriend and I, we're big KSR fans, Kentucky fans, and metalheads. But unfortunately, we're both students at U of L right now. So I had a question for you guys. I'm getting close to graduating,
Starting point is 00:36:18 and I was wondering if it would be acceptable for me to throw Ls down as I walked across the stage. People have done it before. I've seen that once or twice where a Kentucky fan has thrown L's down at the U of L graduation. It's a bold move. Make sure you get their diploma first. Yeah, I would. Right. It's a bold move.
Starting point is 00:36:37 I'm not going to lie. But I think you're perfectly in line with your rights to do it. There is a difference between going to a school and cheering for their teams. I've lived your life with Duke. I went and sat and booed them every game. So I think you just have to ask yourself, do you want the memory of you being booed at graduation or not, Drew. If you're good with that, then go for it. If you want it to not be as controversial, maybe don't do it. I'm all for it. Couldn't love it anymore. 100% confidence behind you,
Starting point is 00:37:11 and I expect to see a photo after you walk the stage. I mean, look, if we'll move on, people will forget. You'll have your diploma. You graduated. That's all that matters. What's one little L's down? Maybe double barrel is down if you're up for it. Two little L's down Wow, double barrel. It's a little piece of sand in your life on the life of beach. I agree. Double L's down. It's a little grain of sand on the beach of life.
Starting point is 00:37:36 There you go. That's a little more poetic, yeah. And as far as the louder-than-life tickets go, my girlfriend and are actually both celebrating our birthdays this week. Yeah, I know. But you understand. I can't do it for sympathy. Like we have to have a contest that follows the rules, and so we're going to have to
Starting point is 00:37:52 do that. And otherwise, I'd love to give it to you. I'm sure it's your birthday, and you have puppies and all of that. And I'd like to do that. But like we have to follow, we have to follow the parameters of the rules. Right. Well, can I enter the contest? I mean, when we close the phones here in a minute and reopen them, feel free to try to get in.
Starting point is 00:38:11 Okay. Thank you. All right. Appreciate the call. There you go. I'm going to let Shannon help me pick because, you know, Shannon's a metal guy. This is larger than life. One of his favorite, one of his favorite events of the year.
Starting point is 00:38:24 Slayer is there, right? Yeah. Metal face. Who else is in it? Slip knot. Slip knot, Motley crew, corn, and about 130 other bands. That's a lot of them. It's a freak on a leash. Yeah. All right. Well, we will do it in the next segment. Let's do one more call. Who's next? David. David, go ahead, David. How are you, Matt? I'm wonderful. I've got a question and a comment, if I may. The comment is for Ryan is some of these NIL in college is also taking a of their family, taking care of their family back home. Not only Ryan takes care of his, but some of these young men and young women are helping their families back home. True.
Starting point is 00:39:07 Yeah. That's his point about, you know, you said you had to support a family. Yeah. Maybe some of these kids are doing that too. That may be true. I don't know. But I know in my case, I got to support my family and pay my insurance and pay my mortgage and everything.
Starting point is 00:39:21 But so do you, I mean, let's go to the Joe's, let's use Joe's an example. Okay. Let's say Josiah goes to a school. He's in his last year of eligibility. This is important because this kid's in his last year of eligibility. I didn't know that part of the story either. He's in his last – that's why he wants to stop now because he can keep his red shirt and play one more year.
Starting point is 00:39:42 If he finishes out the year, his career is over. Okay? That's an important piece of this. Josiah is in his last year of eligibility. This kid last year played at Holy Cross at a D3 school. All right. So this is his first year getting any D1 experience at all. And he gets no money.
Starting point is 00:40:03 You got Josiah. He's at UNLV. He started at Mount St. Joseph. And he's climbed all the way to UNLV. And then they don't pay him the money. And somebody goes, hey, man, if you'll wait over here at, let's say, Iowa State, we'll get you next year. What are you telling him to do?
Starting point is 00:40:21 That is a great scenario you just laid out. That is the scenario this kid's dealing with. This is his exact scenario. I don't know if it's Iowa State, but there is some college that has told him he can come play there next year. But he'd have to redshirt right now. He has to walk away right now so he didn't play another game. Yes.
Starting point is 00:40:40 Man. But he has his team. You were talking about his team. I know. See, that's hard to. So what are you doing? Come on over to my side. I think you're going to.
Starting point is 00:40:50 I think you're going to. It is easy to talk about this stuff in the abstract. But if it was your kid in that scenario, a coach had looked him in the eye and said $100,000 and he's gotten $3,000 and his career ends if he plays one more game. That's the thing. If he plays one more game, his career is now over as a college quarterback. He moved all the way across the country. He's from New York.
Starting point is 00:41:16 He was told he was getting $100,000. Holy Cross to UNLV. and presumably he's got a chance to do something else if this doesn't work out and he goes to him and says you offer me $100,000. Where is it? And they go, sorry, we're not giving it. What are you doing? That is such a tough call because I don't want, if that's his last year,
Starting point is 00:41:41 that makes a big difference in my eyes. It is. This is his last year. And you'd think that maybe if he goes to Iowa State, maybe he's got a chance to sign a free agent deal with an NFL team. You know, maybe he can further his career. I'm waiting for an answer. Yeah, this was the same debate we had at the beginning of the show.
Starting point is 00:41:59 We had a change. Practice starts at 1145. I'm going to need to know if you're going to be on the field, son. I don't think I'm going to be on the field. Thank you. There you go. Got to flip. So that.
Starting point is 00:42:12 And then a quick question, if I may, Matt. Yes. If Stoops had switched punters and we had those extra yards, do we beat Georgia then? That's a great question. I don't know. I appreciate the call. Probably not, but it's funny. Stoop said in his calling show, the punting job is still up for grabs.
Starting point is 00:42:32 We're not sure if we're going to use him. The kid had one punt Saturday, and he kicked it 58 yards. I feel like we should use him from now on, don't you think? I don't understand. I mean, credit to Wilson Berry, it is 37 or 38 yards every single time. Max texts me before and after every punt, it's a running joke now. It's incredibly does it. But when you have a guy that can kick it nearly 60
Starting point is 00:42:54 and you're a coach that plays the field position game, it should be an easy decision. It feels like it should be. Do you take the risk knowing that maybe he may shank one every once in a while? I think you take that risk, man. You want that extra. I flip the field a little more. Well, what's the average?
Starting point is 00:43:08 You're kicking at 60. Might shank one occasionally or 38 every time. I think it's pretty clear. If you want to bet a touchdown, go to Draft Kings. Tomorrow night, Cowboys at Giants. By the way, we're giving 20% off food tomorrow night, if you wear Cowboys or Giants gear. Oh, that's cool.
Starting point is 00:43:25 It's pretty good. It's pretty good. We don't care how they score them. We just want you to bet on the touchdowns. It's Draft Kings is delivering. All you got to do is go check it out. Bet $5. Get $200 in bonus bets instantly.
Starting point is 00:43:35 It's Draft King's Sportsbook. Only at Draft Kings. The Crown is yours. You have a gambling problem called 180 Gambor 18 plus Kentucky only. Eligibility Restricts apply. Bonus Speck Supplier 168 hours after issuance. It's DKNG.NG.C.O.FT.Ball. We'll take a break.
Starting point is 00:43:48 Come back. Final segment. Shannon, reset the phones. Go. First six people in get to play to get louder than life passes for the entire weekend. You can meddle your head off right after this on KSR. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
Starting point is 00:45:11 And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Starting point is 00:45:38 Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers while he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah. You figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. American soccer is about to explode.

Starting point is 00:46:22 I'm not worried about McKinney. My only concern is what happens in the back. The biggest decisions. You're going to look at stats and numbers. He has no shot at making this World Cup team. And the truth about the U.S. national team. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals.
Starting point is 00:46:44 The World Cup is almost here. Experience it all with us. This is David Eagleman with the Inner Cosmos podcast, and for Mental Health Awareness Month,
Starting point is 00:47:08 we're dedicating a series to understanding the mind when it struggles. I'm joined by doctors, researchers, and those with lived experience. We'll talk with singer-songwriter Jewel about anxiety. I started living in my car, and then my car got stolen. I was shoplifting. I was having panic attacks. I was agoraphobic. And making it through hardship.
Starting point is 00:47:30 To be present is a learned skill, and it's hard to be present. We'll talk with John Nelson about clinical depression and the brain implant that saved his life. What I learned is that procedure made me happy because I'm disease-free. And we'll talk with leading experts like Judd Brewer about anxiety, and John Hirschfield about obsessive-compulsive disorder, and the science of how the brain can change. This is a month of deeply personal and honest conversations about what happens when the brain goes off course and what we can do about it. Listen to Inner Cosmos on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:48:14 Agency, the ability to know that we're the experts in our own body. On the podcast cultivating her space, Dr. Dom and Terry Lomax create a space where black women can show up fully and be heard. I wholeheartedly think, you know, you hit 30, you shouldn't have to share one with anybody. Mm-hmm. From navigating friendships and healing to setting boundaries and prioritizing your mental health. These are real honest conversations. We don't always get to have out loud. Totally unreasonable with different parts of life, right?
Starting point is 00:48:46 Like, oh, have all three meals and make sure you're mindful during all of them? Absolutely not. During one meal, I'm standing. I'm standing and handing my children food. Because healing, empowerment, and resilient. aren't just ideas, their practices. And this Mental Health Awareness Month, there's no better time to pour back into yourself.
Starting point is 00:49:07 Listen to cultivating her space on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back, Tegi Sports Radio. All right. First of all, let me do this court physical therapy. If you're in need of physical therapy, so you're not in pain, go to court physical therapy. They'll work you out.
Starting point is 00:49:28 They do it with Ryan. Yep. Your vertigo seems better. Are you good? Only when I walk. Well, that's a big deal, though. Yeah. Only when I'm breathing.
Starting point is 00:49:38 Yeah, I mean, walking's a big part of life. It is. Okay. So court.com, that's K-O-R-T.com. They'll help get you back in shape and make it to where you can go with your normal day. Most insurance is taken. No doctor referrals necessary. It's court.com.
Starting point is 00:49:54 That's K-O-R-T.com. Dollar wings, rest the day. All right, I'm giving away three passes. larger than life. It's Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Shannon will be out there all the time. Here's the game. You have to put yourself in the mind of Ryan Lemon. So I'm giving you a trivia question, but the answer is not who's right. The answer is, what do you think Ryan will say? So I've already asked Ryan this question, and I asked Ryan how many miles from Lexington to Seattle? So from KS Bar to Seattle, which is where we're driving in December,
Starting point is 00:50:35 whoever gets it closest, it's not how many miles it is. You're guessing how many miles Ryan thinks it is. Okay, that's very important. It's different than how many miles it is. It's what does Ryan think it is. Uh-oh. Now, we have six people on. Shannon, let's have the first person.
Starting point is 00:50:55 Okay, let's go to Ronnie. Ronnie. Where are you from, Ronnie? Louisville. Louisville. Now, Ronnie, what do you think Ryan thinks it is from Lexington to Seattle? I don't know. I want to think that he would say something low,
Starting point is 00:51:10 but I'm actually going to go in the middle and say he's like 2100. 2100. Okay, 2100 is what you think, what you think. Thank you, Ronnie. Hang on. Who's next? Tom. Tom.
Starting point is 00:51:21 Where are you from? Louisville. Louisville. What do you think he thinks? I'm going to go. I'm going to go with 3,000. 3,000. Tom thinks you will say 3,000.
Starting point is 00:51:33 All right, hang on. Who's next? Slick. Slick. I like that name. Where are you from, Slick? I'm from Murray, Kentucky. Actually, a transit grad as well.
Starting point is 00:51:42 Murray, Kentucky, Transy grad. So this will be a long drive for you if you have to make. Well, that's where I'm from. That's not where I live now, but that's. Oh, you're from. Okay. I got you. All right.
Starting point is 00:51:51 So what's your guess. So my guess is 5,000 miles. I think that's what Ryan said. And I also had a basketball question. Okay. We don't have time of the basketball question. I'm sorry. We got to do this.
Starting point is 00:52:01 So you're guessing 5,000. All right, Slick, what's next? Bill. Bill. Where you live? Sadieville. Sadieville. All right, what do you think Ryan says?
Starting point is 00:52:11 1524. 1524. All right. Who's next? All right. Freebird. Freebird. I know for you, Freebird.
Starting point is 00:52:20 You're a big metal fan. This would be big. What do you think he says? I'm going to say, Ryan's going to say, $2,600. 2,600. And one more guess is Leighton. Layton. What do you think, Ryan says? Let's go with 1600.
Starting point is 00:52:40 1600. Okay. Now, the actual miles from Lexington to Seattle drew is 2,418. 2,418. So that's important to recognize. That's a lot of miles, right? I had my guess too. A lot of miles. I don't know Ryan's number. Ryan's guess, which he wrote down during the break. 970.
Starting point is 00:53:09 What? I just missed it. 970. Thank you, Imajian. I had him going way over. I did too. I wrote down 4,500. I thought he would almost double it.
Starting point is 00:53:22 I thought he would say some crazy amount. 970 is not that many miles. You literally, it was almost the third. What was the final 24-100? 24-18. Now, the person who got it the closest of the actual miles is Freebird, but that's not what we were looking for. That's true.
Starting point is 00:53:42 We were looking for who gets the closest to what Ryan will say. And because Bill knows that Ryan would be nowhere close, but he'd be low. Bill, are you there? Yes, sir. Congratulations. Yeah. Three tickets. Not two, three.
Starting point is 00:53:59 Three tickets. To larger than life. Who are you going to take, Bill? That's a good question. I have no idea right now. But you're going to go, right? Absolutely. Okay.
Starting point is 00:54:10 I'm a huge metal head. So you will have to pick them up at KS Bar. So hang on. We'll get your information. They'll be at KS Bar starting tomorrow morning. Okay. Got you. All right.
Starting point is 00:54:22 So there you go. Bill. is our winner. Hang on and give your information to Shannon. Inside the mind of Ryan Lemon, who said 970 miles to Seattle. I thought Seattle was in Iowa. Undershot it just a little bit. Just a little bit.
Starting point is 00:54:38 Just a little bit. Okay. I think that's what he wants Seattle to be for this road trip. I do want it to be only 13 hours. Slick gas of 5,000 would have been where I would have been. I would have thought he would think it was like the moon away. Instead, he thinks it's just down the road. What a wonderful treat he's going to have when we get in that car and drive to Seattle.
