Welcome, everyone at Kentucky Sports.
Tuesday, October the 1st.
Yeah, that was nice of you.
Tuesday pop.
I can't believe it's October.
October 1st.
It doesn't feel like it should be October.
I thought we just got into 2024.
And now it's October.
And you can give us a shout on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line.
That's 859-280-2287.
We talked a lot yesterday.

And this is sponsored by the TJ's middle office.
You call TJ, he'll make them pay.
I'm here with Ryan.
We got folks from Owen County, Owensboro, Baxter, Tennessee, which I didn't even know, but originally from Shelbyville.
It's an exciting morning.
You're wearing green.
And we decided today to invite because of his first place finish in the hay bale contest.
You know, Drew's on vacation this week for people.
I think I forgot to say that yesterday.
We decided to invite Billy and allow him to co-host with us.
Billy, nice to see you fresh off your victory.
The first time you've ever not come in last in a KSR-related event.
Yeah, thank you for having me, man.
It's an honor.
I want to thank all these people for coming out to see the Hay-Bel Toss champion.
It's nice of you to make the drive down.
So he's already gone.
Trophy's in the studio next time you're there, Matt.
You should keep it.
I hope you keep it.
I know you were very proud about it.
And, you know, I kind of thought when I saw him,
warming up he was going to win and that's why I had him go last you know that's the showman in
me by the way oh yeah because originally the plan was for me to go last and then I realized
billy's probably going to win so it's a better show if he goes last but then he actually had to
go win and he did the the biggest upset of the weekend was not Kentucky over o' miss it was
billy R sports winning the haybell championship and you're right it could not have played out
any more perfect we're leading up to it the whole show billy's one throw knocks it out you're excited
Has he, Billy, you yesterday were one of about 75 people in the company yelling at me to finish my training.
So I did that last night.
Thank you.
For people who don't know, you have to do this training, which is the worst stuff in the world.
It's awful.
It's like, should you be able to take money under the table?
And the answer is always no.
And it's like 45 minutes, and I hate it.
It's the same thing every year.
and you all would not stop pestering me.
And finally, I finished it last time.
Well, it's really important stuff.
We've got to make sure that all on-air talent isn't doing something they're not supposed to do.
But it is the second year in a row that you were the last person, I believe, in the entire company.
That's a good honor.
That's a great honor.
When you say in the entire company, do you mean like in this region or do you mean in the entire country?
I think I mean in the country because it starts with like, hey, we have this deadline, get Matt to do it.
And then, hey, the deadline's here.
Matt still hasn't done it.
and then corporate calls, and then you know that we really did.
Well, the deadline had already passed, Shannon, which shows it's not really a deadline.
What do I always say?
A rule is not a rule unless.
Yeah, and it's really not a deadline.
Which is why you're not getting a paycheck this week.
But I did get it done.
It's really stupid.
I hate it, but I did it during Monday night football last night.
I had done it before, and I guess it didn't register.
So we found something that you finished last place in.
I did.
Listen, I'm glad to finish last.
Well, we found Shannon's at the Haybell Toss contest.
He finished last in that one.
Hey, I'm going to cut your mic off.
A sidebar note to this story that you just kind of admitted to,
you took a test from a couple years ago, a couple weeks ago.
You took the wrong test.
There was one test that was left from four and a half years ago that I never did,
Shane, that I finished that.
Which again goes back to your point.
Yeah, I thought it was the one I was supposed to do now.
It was for four and a half years ago.
How's that even still there?
But nevertheless, we're caught up now, and it is October 1st.
It is October 1st.
All right, you all are on one today.
There's just too, there's so much energy over here.
It is October 1st, the last three months of the year.
We've got a great ending to the first September month with the win against Old
Miss.
And now these next two months are, at least for us, at least for me, the busiest months of
the year because you have basketball and football going on at the same time together.
I also have been to be traveling with the NFL with ESPN a couple weeks.
So this is a busy time.
But we get a buy week to start.
I looked at the college football slate on Saturday.
It's the worst slate.
It might be the worst slate I've ever seen for a Saturday of games,
which brings me to what I want to start with, which is Mario, one of his jobs,
he does some stuff for us for KS.
Bar on the side.
This is not part of his eye-hard job.
We pay him separately for it.
And one of the things he has to do is every week he creates a list,
a banner of a list of all the events here this week. Correct. And he does a good job. He does it on Sundays,
I guess while he's watching the NFL. And the good thing about it is you never know what Mario's going to pick.
Like he knows, okay, you always put the Bengals on there. You always put Kentucky on there. There's trivia on Wednesday night. He's got that.
Yes. But then sometimes he does like a little hodgepodge. You don't know what he's going to put on there.
So the football game Saturday are objectively terrible, right? I mean, look at the,
Look at the sleight of game.
Best game is probably Missouri, Texas, A&M.
Wow.
You said game day is going to Cal of all places.
Game Day is going to Miami versus Cal, which is a conference game.
Miami versus Cal.
By the way, you stare at me like you're going to murder me.
I hope you.
Literally, like, you're in the front row and you have a look on your face like, I'm going to get murdered at any point in this.
Are you a fan of the show?
or are you just here?
You're just here.
Well, I can tell.
That's premeditating.
I can tell.
All right.
So, anyway, Miami at Cal is game day.
Yes.
So Mario has to look at the list and say, okay, with Kentucky not playing,
what are going to be the couple of games we highlight?
One of the ones he puts, Tennessee, Arkansas.
Makes perfect sense to me, Shannon.
Right.
Tennessee is our rival.
They're playing Arkansas.
I get it.
But then the other one he chose, Navy versus Air Force.
Now, I grant you that there aren't a lot of great games on here.
But Mario looked and saw that and said,
you know what I think will bring people to the bar in droves, Navy versus Air Force.
And I looked, it's on national TV.
Okay.
I wasn't certain that would be a game that would be on television.
It's on here at KS Bar.
It's on everywhere in the country.
What do you think of Mario's decision to highlight
is the game of the day, Saturday, Navy versus Air Force?
Maybe he's a step ahead of us.
Maybe he knows we're going to have like military discounts
if you come and watch that game.
No, he didn't know that because I hadn't made that happen.
But do you...
I want to know what his mindset was,
where he sat there and said, you know,
hmm, what moves the matter?
The naval corps and the Air Force, I don't know if they're a core.
But I love Mario, but sometimes I think he's an alien that has just dropped onto earth.
And that I don't understand.
And picking Navy Air Force, Billy, was one of those moments.
Yeah, well, Mario supports the troops.
I hope you do too.
Well, so I post that.
And then everybody just goes, thanks Mario.
Way to support the troops.
There we go.
Way to be part.
And I had nothing to do with it.
But now Mario has become Mr. Military in the first.
process and there you go.
That's a big rivalry game.
It is Navy.
By the way, this is the first time Navy and Army have both been 4 and O since like the 80s.
Did you know that?
Really?
For the first time, Navy and Army are both 4 and O for the first time since the 80s.
I mean, they are setting up.
There is a world in which that Navy Army game at the end of the year could be to put
somebody in the playoff.
I mean, it's an outside chance, but there is a world that if these teams keep winning,
you could be, they could be playing for the playoff there at the end of the game.
That would be amazing.
That game is already awesome.
I could say that game is already.
You know, we listen to it.
We're on the road a lot during that week.
Wouldn't that be, that would be a sound.
That would be incredible if that game come down.
So because of Mario.
Yeah.
And Ryan, of course, Shannon played spoiler as he tends to do before the show starts.
Yeah.
I have decided since he made it such a big game that I will do something for should.
Now, the question is, should we just do it for Navy and our,
Air Force or should I throw in the Army?
All the military.
Yeah, all of them.
Yeah.
It's not your own's money.
So you could do that.
I understand.
But we will do, so because of Mario and his love for the Naval Academy and the Air Force,
we will do some sort of military discount this weekend.
Very cool.
At the bar.
Thanks to, thanks to Mario.
I love it.
I think it's a great idea.
And I think you should, you know, go ahead.
So as you come in this weekend, you can take a little picture of your receipt or something
and thank Mario for that.
So I'll announce what it is later in the week.
Now, Kentucky, this week is off, but still sort of on the heels of the Old Miss victory.
And I heard Mark Stoops was on a podcast.
I'm not sure what it was because I'd never seen the host,
and at no point did it say on the podcast little thing what the name of the show was.
So I don't really even know what it is.
I would have given them credit.
I just didn't know what it was.
He was on there to talk about the game.
talked about a lot of things, but one of the things he talked about was his decision to go for it
on that fourth down. And I thought it, first of all, was a great explanation, and there were two
things that were important to me, because I've criticized him a lot for the punting against Georgia.
Number one, he said it was different than the Georgia game, because in the Georgia game, he basically
was like, we had stopped them, and we were having a hard time moving it. And he said in the old
miss game, he thought it was harder for them to stop them, and they could move the ball on.
But he also made a very good point, which is what I thought when they went for it, he was like,
we're down four.
So we have to score a touchdown either way.
If I don't get it right there and we get a three and out, they'll kick a field goal,
and I'll still only have to score a touchdown, which I thought was actually a very smart way to look at.
He basically was like, we're going to have to get a stop either way.
if I go for it
and we stop
if I go for it
we don't get it
then they go
if we get to stop
they're kicking a field goal
and I'm in the exact
same position I was before
I actually thought
that was pretty smart
but then he said
something that was maybe
most important to me
he said on every decision
someone is in my ear
feeding me the analytics
now
I'm actually really glad to hear that
yeah
because I sort of wondered
if that was happening
because a lot of times
his decisions
don't know
necessarily go with the analytics.
I had somebody look up last night who has access to that stuff,
that the decision he made against Old Miss, people were like,
well, not so conservative.
Now, it actually was the correct analytical play, by the way.
That if you look it up, it was like 55% go for it.
So he actually made the analytical play.
But he said they're always telling it to me,
but sometimes I like to do what I think is right in the course of the game.
Now, I still disagreeing with him about the Georgia decision.
But, Ryan, I was glad to hear that at least that information is out there.
And if he chooses to go against it, I guess that's ultimately his choice.
Because we've kind of talked about in question for a couple of years,
is, is there somebody on the team that helps them with analytics, clock management, whatever?
Well, I knew there were somebody on the team.
The question was, was there somebody telling him that stuff in the moment?
And it is, apparently that does happen.
Good.
It's good to hear.
You know, that somebody at least has that angle talking to him.
And, you know, he did say after the Georgia game from there on,
he was going to go with his gut a lot of times.
I hate that answer, by the way.
I hate that going with their gut.
But, you know, ultimately it's his team.
He's got to do what he does.
Because your gut, I mean, why even have the analytics if you're going with your gut?
Right.
I mean, Lane Kiffin, for instance, and again, we won.
So clearly Stoops was correct.
And Stoops did go with the analytics on that old misplay.
It's just, you know, analytics.
By the way, doesn't always mean go for it.
Right.
I'm going to speak out of both sides of my mouth here for a second
because I want a coach that uses analytics
and bases a majority of their decisions by it.
But it also, I think there are moments when you have to go against the computer.
Why?
Because there are defining moments in every game,
and I think that is what is remembered,
and that is the difference.
You heard Lane Kiffin talk about going out of character for stoops
and going for it on those fourth and longs.
I mean, I think that is ingrained in every football coach.
But he didn't go against the animal coach.
But he didn't go against analytics.
That's surprising to hear.
Analytics would have told him to go.
Well, that's surprising to hear because that is...
It's not surprising if you understand what analytics are.
Analytics are play all these situations out a million times.
What is most likely to happen?
And because of exactly what Stoop said, which is you're still going to be down a touchdown either way,
the analytics say that you should go for it.
So, you know, Lane Kiffin takes the position, by the way.
He goes with analytics no matter what.
He's like, I just go with it.
I think a lot of people listening will be like,
I like using my gut sometimes to overrule it.
On going with his gut, stoop's 0-1.
Because the analytics told him to go for it on this one, and he did.
Do you know that they were three-for-three on fourth-down conversions against Ole Miss?
I wonder, did the analytics say go for it all?
I bet they would have said to go for it every time.
Because we were across midfield.
Well, the one wasn't, but it's because it's with two and a half minutes.
Yeah.
But I was, I guess the reason I brought all this up was just to say,
I'm glad to hear that that information is being given him.
Because after the Georgia game, we talked about,
is he even getting that information.
Sounds like he is.

What's up, fam, it's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have rooted,
in the lineup, he has to really guard
guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard
Julius Randall. And then he has to give us
everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis
on offense. And when IT's friends
stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive
into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing.
That man, hell get to fly. He run
running the court, licking his fingers, why he got the
ball like, after you go
through a training camp with that, Isaiah,
you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court,

Absolutely.
Now a redacted amount of years later, we're still joined at the hip.
Just a little bit bigger hips, wider.
This is a podcast.
We're recording it as we tailgate our youth soccer games in the back of my Honda Odyssey.

Why did you get hard salsa or?
instead of beer.
I had a bogo.
Well, then you got them.
Do you want a white collar or something here?
Just take it.
What are y'all doing?
Microphones?
Are you making a rap album?
Oh, I would.
Come on.
How did you imagine?
I would buy it.

That sounds delicious.
Oh, you're lucky.
I'm not a drug addict.
You're lucky I'm not an alcoholic.
You are.
I'm not a killer.
I love this team, and I'm really trying to be a figure in their lives that they can rely on.
Oh.

One person writes, Matt, why does Billy take all your grief?
He should go to the other stations in Louisville as a heel turn where they would appreciate it.
I can tell you why he doesn't.
He'd like for someone to hear him.
That's exactly right.
Nobody's listening out there to the other stations.
I'm just kidding.
But I will say it.
I mean, I'm just kidding.
I like, there are people on those stations that I like a lot and are talented.
There are others that aren't, but there are a lot of them that are.
Well, besides Mario just joining us this past year, I was the youngest for the longest time,
and I feel like naturally you pick on your youngest brother, right?
So you just got to be able to take it.
I mean, I basically, I mean, I kind of, hopefully in a good-natured way,
pick on all the folks that I work with.
It's harder to do with Drew just because I've known him for so long,
but the rest of everybody I feel like I do.
It's what I do kind of with Myron.
ESPN, but it's in a very loving way, right?
That's it. We don't mind picking on each other. We don't like, we don't let other people pick on you.
Yeah, no, I mean, if somebody else were to come at us, look out. Yeah, I much matter when people
criticize you all than when they criticize me. Same. That's always been something from the beginning
with me. Now, I didn't think that at first, but now I have come to know. Did you really not think
that I liked you? Didn't know what to think. Yeah. I mean, I didn't like you the first day.
Yeah. But no, I mean, I was always, I always found you.
entertaining, but sometimes it was because, I mean, you have, you have a very high vision of
yourself, and I like that. I find that kind of entertaining, and it used to be even more so,
and there's like a slight bit, especially early on, of delusion, that really entertain me, and I liked it.
Well, you're right about one thing. I've never been more locked in than I was for that haybell
toss on Friday. You really were. I mean, I was, I was ready for me. Don't worry, Billy. He didn't like me.
in the first few years either.
No, I definitely didn't like you either in the first few years.
But I quickly, listen, I like all of you now.
That's why there's, that's why there won't be a change.
One person writes, Matt, analytics don't always figure into coach's personality.
Stoop said Kiffin's aggressiveness on defense has also figured into his decision.
Yeah, that may be true.
But I'm just saying I feel better about the fact he's at least getting the information
because ultimately he has to live with the decision
win or lose.
And one more thing, when you make a decision based on the analytics,
that doesn't mean it's going to work.
True.
Okay, I mean, 55, 45, still means there's a 45% chance of losing.
I mean, right now, like take the presidential race.
I think it's like 60-40, Harris wins,
but there's still a 40 where Trump wins,
and they only run the election one time.
So in that one time, anything can happen.
The same thing is true with the play.
Ryan. It can be whatever it is. And one play, it can be 95-5, and then the five happens. That's part of it.
It's good you said what he said on that podcast because, you know, after the game, he was a little more like,
we didn't think we gave him the ball. We'd be able to stop them and we weren't going to get it back.
So it's good to hear they really, yeah, there was a lot of thought process in that decision.
Shannon, Pete Rose passed away. And I think you can't do a show in Kentucky and not talk about Pete Rose
passing. 83 years old. I'm a Reds fan, but to be honest, was not a Reds fan when Rose played.
But of course, I knew he was. I mean, I was watching when he got the, obviously, the hit.
The whole, all of America was an iconic baseball player. But I think if you live in the Cincinnati,
Kentucky area, he was kind of even more than that, the most famous red of all time,
you know, suspended for gambling for life, not in the Hall of Fame.
I've said many times all those guys should be in the Hall of Fame, Rose, Barry Bonds,
Roger, how are you going to have a Hall of Fame that doesn't have Pete Rose,
Rose, Barry Bonds, and Roger Clemmons, three of the best players to ever play.
But with all of that said, you know, had his life, troubled life in some ways,
but Shannon, a legend of baseball.
I know you're a huge baseball guy, and I'm sure you were sad to hear the new.
Nobody plays like Pete Rose played with that.
aggression.
No, I don't know.
It's just like running over catchers.
I mean, the way that he played the game was, in my mind, the way that I wish everybody
played.
But he was absolutely a legend.
And one of the most beloved baseball players, especially, like you said, around this area,
everybody loves Pete Rose.
Yeah, I mean, I think I've been in Vegas three times when he was in my hotel signing
autographs.
I'm not, if you don't have Pete Rose's autograph, that's on you because he was, he sold it
pretty much everywhere at some point.
You, I know, Ryan, as a huge baseball guy, even as a Cardinals fan, you had to be sad about the past.
He was the biggest superstar on the best team in the 70s, you know, the big red machine,
and Pete Rose was the leader of it.
And he did, like Shannon said, he kind of changed the way baseball was played with his, you know,
the head first slide and, you know, Charlie Hustle for crying out loud.
So the only time I met him, too, was in Las Vegas.
It's funny he said that at Cesar's Palace.
He was always in Las Vegas.
We, Drew Franklin and I were in Las Vegas for a blog conference 13 years ago.
And we were just walking down the hallway.
And there was Pete Rose sitting by himself, four people standing in line to get his autograph.
It was like $60.
And I thought to myself, it was $60 because I paid it.
Oh, you did?
Oh, yes, I did.
You paid the $60.
I did.
What did you get him to sign?
I got like two, eight by tens.
But he sat and talked to my buddy and I for like 30 minutes.
We were the only people there.
There was nobody else there.
Like he, there were only a couple people there.
It's interesting.
You had to pay $60.
I got it for free.
Oh, you got it for free, Shann?
Multiple autographs and pictures and everything.
He would be at, a couple times when I was at CBS, they would send me to Cincinnati games.
I think I did the Cincinnati Xavier game two years in a row, and he was always at that one.
Oh, yeah.
And it was, he and Nick Lachay would sit on the front row together and watch the game.
He did kind of cuss me out a little bit for what?
Because we're sitting there, we're talking baseball.
You know, my buddy and I were former baseball players.
We're connecting.
We're bonding.
And then he says, what are you guys doing tonight?
And I'm thinking, he wants to get together with us tonight.
You didn't really believe that.
You thought Pete Rose just wanted to go and hang out and talk baseball with you?
Talk baseball.
We were getting along so well.
And I said, well, first we had got to take us to see David Spade.
And he looked at us like we were Martians and said, David effing Spade.
You're going to go see David effing Spade.
of all the effing things
in Las Vegas
Bet Miller's down the tree
you're going to see David
effing Spade
and basically walked away
the conversation was over
Wow
what's wrong with David Spade
What's an odd story
So it made him mad
You're going to see David Spade
Instead of going to see
Bet Miller or Cher
or whoever else was on performance
He was so offended
that we were going to see David
And he was so offended
He just walked away from you
And I got thanks for coming guys
Got to go
Wow
That's a really strange
Encounter with him
That was the same trip to Vegas
and we met Robin Leach and he's like, you know,
oh, please.
All right, well, that was a great tribute to Pete Rose,
but it is all-time hit leader, Johnny Hustle.
It is funny, though.
Charlie Hustle.
Just same thing.
Johnny Hustle.
It is funny to me that Channon said he wishes everybody played like that.
I think if somebody played like Pete Rose today,
the media would crucify him for being a dirty play.
I'm talking about guys that Lolligagged down the first baseline
That's what I'm talking about.
When he got old, his fast was lolly gag.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
So what is this song, Shannon?
Pete Roseway.
It's the baseball project, volume two.
I thought maybe being a Reds fan, you would know this, but it's called Pete Rose Way.
Pete Rose Way. I've never heard this.
I've never heard it either.
There's that big statue of him out front of the Red Stadium.
I walk by every game with him doing that slide.
It's kind of a cool statue.
It's a very cool statue.
When it's over, when the games are over, there's always these guys,
and they're playing buckets outside.
Yeah.
And they do it in like a rhythm, and I find myself after every game just dancing,
walking all my way out.
They're there every single game, and they are the best bucket players I have ever seen.
And they do like, it's like three of them.
They do a rhythm, and it's, and they're always standing right there on Pete Rose statue.
See, I didn't know they did it every game when we went up for the Cardinals game this year
when you gave me your tickets.
They were out there playing.
They're there, certainly every week in game, but I think they're there most games.
Wow.
And they're always playing when they get there.
859-280-2287.
One person writes, Matt, there's no poll that has Harris winning 60 to 40.
I don't know what you're talking about.
That's not what 60-40 means.
60-40 means like a 60% chance.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
That's what I'm saying.
So I'm saying if you ran the election five times, I think she'd win three.
I think Trump would win two.
But you only run them once so you don't know what it's going to be.
Are you going to watch?
There's a debate tonight.
Yeah, the vice presidential debate.
Vance versus Walls, the vice presidential debate.
You're going to watch it?
I probably will not watch any of it.
I did hear, though, that they're going to leave the mics on.
You know, he turned the mics off when Trump and Harris did it.
Yeah.
I'm not going to watch it either.
But I think both of them will do well.
Like, Vance is a, is, remember before the Harris Trump, I said,
Harris will do well because she's good at the skill of debating.
Vance is good at the skill of debating.
So forget whatever you think about his policies, whether you like them or not.
Just the skill of debating, he's very good.
And then Wals is pretty good.
So I actually think they'll both do fine tonight, no matter whose side you're on.
Because Vance is good at arguing, which is something I feel like I'm good at.
There's a skill to that.
And so I think he'll do well with that.
I'll probably turn it on for like 20 minutes or so, just how ridiculous those debates are.
Why are they ridiculous?
I just think they just say crazier and crazier things every single time.
Not only the presidential candidates, but the VP people.
But I'd like to hear a Shannon the dude scorecard.
I'm going to get that for this?
That's not happening because my baseball team actually plays a lot.
Yeah, so the playoffs are the playoffs are today.
So we'll talk about the place.
That Braves Mets game, the first one yesterday, Shannon was unbelievable.
I watched the last three innings.
Braves up three nothing.
Then the Mets go up 6'3.
Then the Braves go up 7, 6th.
Then the Mets go up 8-7.
it was that was one of the more exciting baseball games I've ever seen
it was it was that that's you know that's why baseball is good in October man you get
those finishes like that and it was kind of cool and just like I said whoever won the
first one had no incentive to win the second one and the roads ended up one in the second
gentleman's agreement yeah it should have been a gentleman's agreement that's what they
ought to have done well they celebrated together after the second game did you think that was
weird yeah yeah that's weird that they got they celebrated together I didn't see the
celebration together I didn't yeah so that when
After the Braves won, both teams kind of got on the field and sort of shook hands and celebrated.
I didn't like that because the Braves and Mets are in theory rivals.
So like if Kentucky and Louisville, like let's say we play Louisville, let's just say for sake of argument,
we played Louisville in the last game of the season in football.
And something happens to where we both make it.
I don't know how that would happen, make the playoff.
But let's just say there was a way that after it's over, we both made the playoff.
we're not getting on the field and hugging each other, are we?
Absolutely not.
So, I don't, Shannon, I didn't like that.
Getting on the field and hugging each other when it's old.
I wouldn't have liked to have seen it, but I didn't see it,
so I can't, I guess, get too mad about it.
But yeah, probably a bad look.
But you knew that's what was going to happen.
They were going to split and both teams go to the playoffs.
Yeah, but I knew they were both going to do it, but they shouldn't have both.
I don't like celebrating together.
If Kentucky and Louisville were to play, let's say,
let's say Kentucky and Louisville were both, I don't know, undefeated.
but then, you know, we beat Louisville, but then Louisville, someone loses so that Louisville wins the ACC.
I don't know, something like that.
We should not both be on the field celebrating with each other after its own.
Yeah, back in my day, Ryan, people actually hated their opponent.
They didn't jersey swap.
They didn't celebrate shake hands.
I'm not saying that.
I'm just saying, I just think that, I just, I don't know.
The Braves and Mets are supposed to hate each other.
Like, they're rivals.
Yeah.
And they're likely can meet in the second next round of the playoffs.
So, all right, who's up first, Shadder?
Joe.
Joe, go ahead, Joe.
Yes, thank you, Matt.
Two insights, first on Pete Rose,
and then I'll have an insight on the UK game gets old missed.
In the old days, Matt, before you start watching,
Pete Rose, if he saw that center field or creeping in on him,
Pete was just smacked that ball off the center field fence,
and he wasn't known to be a home run hitter.
But, Matt, he would hit this ball 400 feet against that wall
if he saw that center field or creeping in.
That's one of my favorite memories of Pete Rose when he played.
If he saw that center field.
Okay, I got it.
I saw the center fielder.
I got you.
What else?
Okay.
Then on the UK game, I called you on Saturday morning.
They gave a prediction a tight end with scored a winning touchdown.
I don't think that's, you did say that.
I don't think that was what you meant in that way, but I got you.
Well, I said Rodriguez.
And let's face it, Rodriguez probably should have been in there.
We probably could have had Anderson in there, or we probably could have
had our third tight end, Dingle.
In that game, Caves, we've probably been to four tight end,
but the inside of Vince Merrill,
the heavy man at that game at that time,
was that analytics or was that just pure luck?
I think that was probably pure luck. I mean, that was, look,
sometimes you win because of luck. I appreciate the call.
And that was, that was a lucky,
excuse me, a lucky recovery, right?
But credit to Cattis for seeing it,
for having the hands to catch it.
But, Ryan, I'm not going to act like there was any grand plan.
on that.
We were in the right place at the right time.
And I'm fine with it because we had three fumbles against South Carolina
and three against Georgia where we were in our hands and we didn't get them.
Yeah, the ball had been on the ground, what, six times in our first two SEC games
and Kentucky got none of the six.
The football God, it was our turn.
It was our turn for that ball to fall riding Caddus's lap.
And I'm glad we got some folks here from Owensboro.
I'm glad for Gavin Wimsett.
Yeah.
Because that would have been a brutal if after all that happened,
he fumbled that last thing.
That would have been a brutal thing for him, and that kid would put him in a tough spot, I think, if that happened.
Yeah, because he'd been doing really well just running the football, got us down there, got us into the goal line.
Except for the drive against Ohio where he was the main quarterback.
On plays this season, where he's come in and Brock is the main quarterback.
You see what I'm saying, where he's coming in for a play.
I think there are, I said 21, I think it's 19.
there are 19 straight plays where he's run the ball
19 straight plays where he's run the ball
first of all if you're the other team how are you not just like
selling out yeah but secondly
are they going to throw it at some point
is even going to hand it off he doesn't even hand it off he keeps it himself
well you may know this out of the 19 are they all positive yardage
I don't know if he's had any negative yardage plays
I don't think he's been sacked I'm not
sure he may have been like stopped at the line of scrimpage a couple times but do you do you think they ever you know remember that
virginia tech game where lyn bowden ran it like 27 straight times and then on the biggest play through it you think we're going to get one of those yeah we'll definitely get one of those that was are you going to pass the ball with gavin are there any sets for that and mark said he said yes but he's also not going to reveal his game plan on the call-in show so i think we'll see something i thought in the first half the gavin plays were very useful
useful.
They all went for four, five, six yards.
In the second half, they kind of got stopped a little easier.
But it actually was a good, it actually worked in the first half pretty well.
I think they're just keeping it in their back pocket for that Tennessee game.
They put that final drive.
We're going into score.
That's when they pull it out.
Well, I don't know about final drives after that fumble there.
That was.
But I think that's when they'd love to use him is in the red zone.
Yes.
I think in the red zone is where they may feel he is the most dangerous if he will not fumble the ball.
Who's next?
Mike.
Mike.
Mike, go ahead, Mike.
Hey, man, how you doing?
Good.
Hey, listen, I had a, I called in,
y'all, you know, y'all was talking about yesterday about how much fun it is to win on the road.
Yes.
I came back when we beat Auburn back in the day, the day of the year before we won the national championship.
And we didn't, after the game, of course, we had the flags fly and all that kind of thing.
And we're driving through Alabama coming home.
and I don't know if there was one, there must have been a dozen Alabama fans
drive up next to us and give us a thumbs up because we'd all.
Yeah, well, I mean, I love the, I love rivalries.
Whoa, there's a bird.
Okay, there it goes.
I love the rivalries where the other team hate you so much that they're rooting you on.
I told the story about the Mississippi State kid.
Look, when Louisville loses, I'll, you know, I'll donate to the, especially if it's an upset.
You know, they play SMU this weekend.
Is that right?
Listen, go SMU.
Mustang.
That's right.
I'm for it.
There you go.
Well, listen, you all have a good day.
Appreciate the call.
I think there's absolutely nothing wrong with that of donating to the other school your rival loses to.
You don't have to support the other school.
Do you, you know, I was looking at Louisville's schedule.
The only game they have left, really, is Clemson.
Yeah.
I mean, they very, I think there's a decent chance they come in here at nine and two.
their schedule is so weak.
I don't know if that's good enough to get them in the playoff.
But I think if they're nine and two when they come in here, if we beat them,
we could definitely knock them out of the playoff.
And Billy, I think that would be a fun thing to do.
The guy staring at me angrily here is apparently a Louisville fan,
which explains everything, by the way.
I was going to say the Buffalo Bills do that a lot.
They donate to the charity of the winning.
That's one of the best things about their fans,
is that they donate to the charity when,
somebody beats a team that matters to them.
I think that's a really cool thing.
Prices are falling at Don Franklin's family of dealerships.

Yes.
And then a few months later, the world finds out about it.
What was this one?
We'll tell you right.
Okay.
What a tease.
Last night.

We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me, he goes,
hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?

And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the
lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nasree.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court licking his fingers while he got the ball.
After you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.

Louisville also plays Miami, by the way.
I said only Clemson.
Apparently, they play Miami, too.
For some reason, I keep getting their schedule confused as to who they play,
but they play both.
So if they win one of those games, I don't think they will.
But if they were to win one of those games,
I think they would come in, you know,
with a shot to make the playoff if they won here.
Okay, so you may remember when I told you all a story a few weeks ago,
or actually a couple months ago,
about the town in North Carolina that produces all the quartz
that's needed to make silicon for your phones.
Do you remember that?
Yeah.
I said there was a town.
You couldn't even get into it without a security credential,
and basically all of the silicon,
which is used on phones,
pretty much every electronic computer,
every device you have uses silicon.
And to make it, apparently you need a pure quartz that is only in like six places in the world,
and one of them is in North Carolina.
And a couple of the others are in China, which we don't have access to.
There's like one in Belgium, but there's only like six places in the world.
So this little town in North Carolina has one.
And remember, I told the story.
I read an article about it.
Well, I read yesterday two days ago.
The flood has greatly impacted that town.
Oh, my.
They have yet to actually be able to get to the quartz mine to see if it's impacted the quartz.
But you can't even get in out of the town.
The railroad that goes to the town where they take all of this quartz to send it out is destroyed.
Wow.
And so there is a real worry that it'll take a – it's like when we had the problems during COVID with the supply chains and all that.
And you really didn't feel it until like a year later.
And that was part of when inflation started to hire it.
etc. They're worried, they're like, it'll be okay in the short term, but they're worried that in like
three or four months, if this is not, if access is not restored, that like phones, computers,
we could have like a crisis of not being able to get the silicon. We need it. We need because of
that flood. And they still have not even been able to get access to the town well enough to
tell how bad it is. So all the business is in the town apparently have been destroyed.
which will also affect the ability of people to live there.
And like literally a huge part of the American economy requires what this town produces.
And it's like there are multiple stories today.
If you Google, it's pine spruce worries amongst economists.
Like what is going to happen if we can't get to this town?
That's scary, man.
I mean, that's a major story coming down the pike pretty fast.
It sounds like that it's going to happen to it,
especially if that main artery, that railroad railway is wiped away.
way, how else can they get it out? I mean, the human tragedy is awful. There are still the
governor of North Carolina still, there's still 600 people missing. Now, a lot of those,
you remember in Eastern Kentucky, those numbers were high, and a lot of it was just people couldn't
get in contact to say they were okay. So I don't think all 600 of those are dead, but probably
some percentage of them are. It's going to end up being, I think I saw 150 already passed away.
I mean, the human tragedy is unbelievable. The pictures and the videos are awful.
awful and like for towns like
Asheville you know
that's in that place never going to be the same
no it's not it's truly
amazing that that small town has such a
huge importance when it comes to the
economy of this nation and to go along
with the dock workers I guess going on strike
we're going to be paying for more for good
no I mean I think it won't probably affect
itself now but if they
people should watch because they
expect to be able to get to the
quartz mine today
to see whether or not there has
been damaged to it.
But the big issue is they're going to, that train, you know, it's the only way out
because this place is way up deep in the mountains and the only way out and they think that
train, at least that line has been destroyed leading into it.
You got that main artery gone and like you said, the workforce, those people, they get
they're trying to put their lives back to get, let alone go back to work and work in these
minds again.
It's just, it's just awful.
I mean, those pictures, I mean, it was really bad in Eastern Kentucky, but, you know,
in Eastern Kentucky, it didn't hit a city the size.
of Asheville or Boone. I mean, Boone's a pretty big city too, or, you know, it's not city, but pretty
big town. Just, just an absolute tragedy there. Who's up next? Poe. How are you, Poe?
I'm a little under the weather day, guys. Well, I hope you feel better. Thank you. Billy,
congratulations, buddy. Thank you, Po. You're welcome. It was entertaining. I had a comment on
the analytics. I'm not a huge fan of analytics because I think the coach knows the personnel
of the team there than anybody, in a computer especially.
Well, let me ask you, when you say you're not a fan of analytics, are you a fan of making
smart decisions based on rationality?
Absolutely.
Well, that's what analytics are. I mean, that's analytics is saying, if I do this this many
times, here's how many times it's likely to work.
Yeah, but don't consider your teams.
Yeah, they do, though.
But advanced analytics do.
Advanced analytics will actually place the stats of your team and say, not just how would a
generic team do it, how would your team do in this situation?
Like now they have models that control for everything.
Momentum of the game, times of situations.
I don't know about momentum per se, but a lot of people who believe in analytics would say momentum is kind of overrated anyway.
But I'm not, well, go ahead.
Finish your point.
I'm sorry.
Well, I'm just saying we, I'm going to just talk about something different about Brockie and the line.
You've got to give them a lot of credit.
And the receivers missed a lot of catches that game that were catchable.
that we could have that Brock was running his tail off and I'd like to see him throw it away a little bit more.
But yeah, I think Brock, Brock was, Brock was unbelievable.
He was.
Brock was unbelievable.
Like he, I think whatever questions people had about is this guy or guy, to me, Ryan, they got answered.
Finally got some answers.
We couldn't really judge him after those first two games.
Now we kind of see what he can do when he settles in, has a little time,
and is able to, you know, sit back there and pick his receiver to go for.
If you were at all worried, Billy, if he is, you know, become the quarterback, taking that drive down 1713,
going the length of the field and getting them in a position to win that pass to Barry on.
Like, I don't know what else you can ask for.
I think he's improving over every single game.
I agree with that.
You got to remember that this is a guy that was going to be the starter at Georgia until the last week of training camp,
and they named Carson Beck the starter.
So this is his first time getting a chance to get better in real action.
So I've been very encouraged, and that's why the Gavin Wibbbs at Fumble would have
been tragic if they would have lost it because he had played so great go ahead poe finish your last point
okay well he barion missed the third down conversion on good pass by brock he did he did drop one yeah
he did drop one a little bit early and he made up for it on the home yeah i appreciate the call i mean
that catch but wasn't for the alabama catch that night of that 17 year old probably would have been
the play of the day that that was the highlight of the day was barion until that ryan Williams made
that catch kit for alabama yeah but uh
You know, I still don't know how Brock's going to be the rest of the year,
but I now feel confident in a way that, you know, I don't know if after week one, two, three,
you really were sure.
To me, now you know he's the guy.
