I have Ryan Lemon, Shannon, and fresh off being banned from the Fort Knox High School football game last night.
Max Duffy is here.
here with us. Thank you very much. Thank you. It's good to be allowed in this forum. Yeah, for people,
like, he didn't do anything to get banned, but he coaches at Lexington Christian, and you were telling me,
because you are a foreign citizen, you were not allowed to go to the game last night. Fort Knox
said no, no, no furriners that will be at this game, and so the Lexington Christian had to win
63 to nothing without you. Yeah, last two weeks, I haven't been there, and they've won 50,
5-0 and 60-0 so maybe they'll just keep me away forever but yeah they were a bit afraid with my
ties with Putin and all that kind of thing didn't want to let me in the military base I understand
but good to have you with us today Ryan it is the I guess our last Friday and weekend until
April with nothing no sports this weekend how you're going to use your time drew went to Maine
what are you going to do I'm going to watch Kentucky Wesleyan college play football tomorrow
Yeah, the premier division two institution and all the land.
But like I said earlier this week.
Where are they ranked, by the way?
They're up there pretty high.
Where?
You know, you just check the website.
Okay, all right.
Division 2 football.com.
It'll have it there for you.
But like I said earlier this week, I wish Kentucky was playing this week or come off that big win and Ole Miss.
And it's a perfect weekend.
I really wished it was a game.
I wish the bye week was maybe next week, not this week.
You've had two very big weekends, Shannon.
You've had larger than life and you've had more than beyond.
How are you going to use your weekend?
Actually, I've got some more of these remotes.
I'm going to be set up at one of these places that sells like $5 steaks.
You see these places like travel around?
There's a Fondrosa?
No, it's like these tents.
They do these meat tent cells.
Meat tent.
Yeah, I'm going to be at a meat tent.
Interesting.
So, come on out and buy some meat this weekend.
I don't understand what it is.
It's like a traveling thing, and they have like pork chops and steaks,
and they're all on discounted rate.
and they're going to have me out there saying,
everybody, come buy our meat.
All right.
So that's going to be.
Is that in Lexington or Louisville?
It's in Louisville.
It's in Louisville.
And that's going to be after I go to Sargham Festival tomorrow.
I'm going to get up early and go get some country ham.
You need to tell me what time I'd like to come have some of your $5 meat tomorrow.
Oh, I thought you're going to come to Sargo Festival.
But you want some of my $5.
No, I'm in Louisville tomorrow.
I'll come see some of your $5.
I'll buy you a $5.
Okay.
Thank you very much.
Don't say I never did anything for you.
All right.
Doesn't that sound very American for you?
That sounds very, very, what's wrong with it?
Why is it reduced?
You know, don't ask questions.
They're selling it out of a guy's trunk.
Yeah, that's what it is.
They're selling out of the back of the guy's trunk.
I think it sounds good.
I'm looking forward to it.
You tell me where to go tomorrow, and I'll be there.
8.59-280-2287.
Max is here, and I wanted to get your take.
We haven't gotten to talk to you yet about the big victory Saturday at Old
Miss.
What did you think?
You know, preseason last year, you were more down on the team than we were in the preseason,
and they ended up, you kind of were more ripe than we were.
This year, I thought you were kind of more optimistic maybe than a lot of our fans were.
Did you feel vindicated by the game Saturday?
Yeah, I think preseason I said nine and three, and then the South Carolina game happened,
and I thought I looked like an idiot.
But since then, you know, obviously two really good performances,
Georgia R Ole Miss, and then getting the job done against Ohio.
For me, you know, talk about weighted numbers and the trends your friend,
we've played four really, really good games out of five.
And now you kind of see South Carolina as the outlier,
and the other four games is our consistent football.
And so I think I'm really excited.
We're going to play some really, really meaningful games come November.
And I'm just super excited for that.
I'm so happy.
Like, that look on Stoops' face when he was walking back to the locker room.
So you've seen that.
You've been part of big wins.
You were part of that win at Missouri the year.
You're part of beating Penn State.
You're part of a Florida win, etc.
Part of a Tennessee win, right?
Did you get a Tennessee win?
At Tennessee.
What is Stoops like in those big victory moments?
I mean, the crowd surfing is unbelievable, isn't it?
When he punched that hole at Missouri, it was one of my favorite moments of all time.
And honestly, like, I'm not sure if he would say this,
but I feel like the South Carolina game just kind of woke him up a little bit again.
It just seemed like Stoops was kind of, you know, from the outside looking in going through the motions.
He was a little bit, like, underwhelming during the preseason.
I think he thought we had a great.
You said this to me some off the year.
You just didn't feel like that sort of thing that Stoops has, that sort of spark.
You didn't see it.
You were saying this even after week one before we played South Carolina.
Did you see that Saturday?
Absolutely.
And I think that's what I'm saying.
I think the South Carolina game woke him back up and maybe woke the program back up.
I think historically we've always been the underdogs.
And we've played our best as the underdogs.
He's coached his best as the underdogs.
And when you go into a South Carolina game where you're a 10-point favorite, it's kind of uncharted territories.
You don't really know how to handle a situation like that.
And then he lost, and as disappointed he would have been in that loss, I think he was like, now I'm back.
I wonder if Ryan, for a home game in the S...
Do you think we've been a 10-point favorite in many games that were not...
We're SEC games except Vandy?
I bet it hadn't happened often.
Maybe one Missouri game at some point.
But I don't know if that's probably ever happened.
That's a great point.
I can't remember one time they've been favored by more than 10 against somebody other than Vanderbilt for an SEC game.
It just doesn't happen.
It just doesn't happen really.
No.
So that's interesting.
Well, we are here at Shady Rays.
They have new UK-themed sunglasses.
I have one of them on right now, blue and white.
They're kind of, I don't know, how would you describe it, shit?
And they're, like, you know, sporty.
I see, I see, like, college-age dudes wearing glasses like that.
They look cool on someone else.
Yeah.
That's why Max is here.
That's why he's here.
Are you suggesting these don't look good on me right?
Now, the ones in the middle, Shamed.
I'm not sure I can pull that one.
Those look more like snowboarding goggles that you put on, right, that almost cover your whole face.
I've seen Brock Vandergriff wear those glasses.
He can't pull them off.
Yeah, I don't think I can.
The other ones I think they'll work for me, Ryan.
Are you going to get some before you get out of here?
I know.
They even offered to make me some prescription sunglasses.
so I can have some new UK sunglasses.
Prescriptions.
Bill has prescription sunglasses on.
Those are prescriptions.
Those are prescriptions.
Look at him back there with the slick back here.
That's great.
All right.
So we're going to talk football.
I also want to talk some basketball because if you were online last night,
either on social media or on Kentucky Sports Radio.com.
And if you haven't seen this, I suggest you go watch.
UK basketball released a seven-minute video that was basically them.
It was basically a day of one.
what they called, what is it, Camp Banner?
Not Hell Week.
Banner Camp. Banner Camp.
But more importantly, I thought it was fascinating because it was seven straight minutes of Mark Pope coaching.
And you ought to watch it because it's cool to see.
But the most interesting part of it to me, Ryan, was listening to Mark Pope talk about offense.
He basically was showcased, they were running up and down the floor,
and they basically run this play, and they try to shoot as many threes over the course of time
while running the play over a minute.
And I think he said the first one they made,
I guess they shot, they made 57 points,
which if you do the math would be 19 threes,
and then the last minute they made 77.
And anyway, he was talking,
and this is what I found was interesting.
And I know it is,
there are people who are like,
you've got to move on Pascal,
and I agree,
but some of what's going to happen this year
is you're just going to have to compare styles
because we're going to see a completely different,
Turn your music up louder.
Thank you, man.
We couldn't hear it with your windows rolled down.
Yeah, everybody cares what you're listening to.
Yeah, thank you.
But we, it was a different philosophy,
and I think we're going to see a huge change.
And one of the things Mark Pope said in that video is he goes,
if you shoot and we miss our first four threes,
when we come out of the timeout, shoot four more threes.
That was basically what he said.
And if you remember, John Caliperi had a different philosophy.
He would say if you're shooting threes and miss them, scoot in and shoot twos.
That was his exact quote.
I find it interesting.
They are going to live and die with that outside shot,
and the variance of our scoring, Ryan, is going to be fascinating to watch.
Like you said, it's a change, but it's a change.
I think that most fans are going to welcome because it's now it's about execution and efficiency.
It's not just my guy's better than your guy.
Go out and beat that other guy.
If you like the keep shooting, keep shooting, fire, get up.
down the floor. I mean, if you watch the offense, I'm sure this is the drill, but basically
it was driving kick, driving kick, driving kick, and everyone taking threes. Do you like, I mean,
that's going to be so, I know we shot up a lot of them last year, but it's because we had three
historically good shooters. I think, Max, we're shooting them this year, no matter what, that's
just what we do. Absolutely. And you had a caller, call in maybe a couple weeks ago, a girl that
said that he had visited the class and talked about sports psychology. And that's what you want to do,
filling with confidence, right?
Like, just keep telling them, hey, don't worry about mistakes.
Go out there, shoot.
No one cares if you miss.
Let's just keep making them.
I will say this.
Early in the year, Shannon, bet the over on Kentucky.
No, I mean it, because I don't think, I think we are going to put up.
Now, we may give up a ton of points, but I think we are going to put up absurd numbers of points
because we're going to score at an average, and we scored a lot last year.
But if you look over the course of the Cal era, we're going to score at an average that we haven't seen.
know how good at the end of the season this team is going to be, but I do know one thing. It's going
to be a lot of fun to watch this team, just based on that style alone. And when you have as many
good shooters, just by the numbers, I mean, you're going to get probably an absurd amount of
made three-point shots. That's going to be the majority of their offense, I think. He's very much,
Ryan, kind of a slogan person. He's very much like, if you put it in the bucket, it'll come out
in the pail and all that kind of. Is that what he says? That's a good one. That's really a good one.
But I'm just saying he's very much like, I feel like one day he could be like a motivational speaker.
You know, every, everything.
Not if he uses that line.
Put it next to Socrates.
Head up on the Kentucky branded T-shirt next week's show.
Put it in a bucket, put it in a pan.
If you put it in a bucket, you get it back in a pail.
That's what it is.
But do you think that works with college kids in the NIL era?
All the sort of, you know, it's a little cheese ballie, maybe.
I would think that it would work more so than the old school coach.
screaming and hollering at you.
You know, that just doesn't seem to work anymore.
I think Mark Pope is the kind of the new coach that can reach these kids by talking that way.
I mean, you're 10-Max to sort of roll your eyes when people say things like that.
How do you think you would deal with a coach that was kind of always doing like motivational quotes
and putting Vince Lombardi things over you?
Like, how would you deal with that?
Yeah, I guess it's a little different if he's trying to build a mantra of what the team's going to be.
Every coach talks about having your own language in your own language in your,
locker room or in your facility.
And if he's, you know, preaching these five things, maybe that's their values or their
core values, whatever it's going to be.
And if he keeps preaching these things, then, yeah, guys are going to buy into it if he has
early success.
It's just if you don't have the early success, then all those cheesy things become cheesy.
Actually, that's a really good, if they work, they're not quite as cheesy.
Well, Shannon, when I was watching it, I was excited.
Yeah.
I'm sitting there and they're getting those seven minutes, I've been kind of like, I'm very
excited to see Pope, but I've kind of been like, yeah, basketball, basketball's a week
way. You know, when we do the show next week, Big Blue Madness is that night.
Yes. I mean, we're going to be right across the way over there at Kentucky Brandon next Friday.
And then we got Big Blue Madness that night.
Keenlands, or excuse me, Kentucky Vandy Saturday, Keenland, UK Texas volleyball Sunday.
I mean, these sort of big, massive weekend of UK sports starts next week.
And I think that video is part of what got me excited.
Pope gets it, man. He's had all of us excited for what's to come in the basketball season.
I love the fact that they're bringing an LED floor out for, for, for, for, for,
Big Blue Madness.
Well, they did it at the NBA All-Star game, if you remember on that.
It's going to be cool.
I think it's going to be interactive and something that fans are really going to enjoy seeing.
Yeah, I do too.
I think it's going to be, listen, I don't know how we're going to do, but we're going to be fun to watch.

Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through life one hot flash and hormonal crying jag at a time.
You ladies know what I mean. I'll bet you a perimenopausal chin here you do.
So let's talk about it. Join me on my new podcast. How hard can it be with Deanna Maria Riva,
where I call on my Gen X squads from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate midlife's most fantastic BS.
All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening.
on my own. I was like, what the hell is that? I was married when I had her, so I didn't even
consider how empty that nest was going to be. Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive. Wait,
what sex? Dating at 45. How can it be getting naked at 50 with the new guy? That one's kind of hard.
Well, that's lighting. They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try. So let's get blunt
with laughs, tears or tears of laughter, and dive into it unfiltered and unbothered and ask,
How hard can it be?

uh the next person wrote uh max is he good this would be good max is a smart ass why don't you tell
him to not be so mean when he's on the radio is that your mom nice for karen to text in on the
text line my mom is coming you can say that to her face when she gets here in just a little bit
we are here at shady rays they got food from wild eggs they got coffee from funky rooster coffee
right over there, and we got a great crowd.
This is a wonderful crowd this morning.
It's going to be suns out a little bit.
You can get a little tan, Shannon.
Suns out, guns out.
It looks like it.
Did you see, by the way, the Arkansas fans kind of picked up,
the Arkansas media picked up our hog thing yesterday,
and now they're saying we're obsessed over them
because of you, Shannon, because you made all those jokes about the hog.
I don't understand why they're upset about that.
I mean, I think it's ridiculous.
They're trying to make their logo, their mascot, more class.
It's a hog.
You want to have a classy hog?
I don't think what they're...
No, no.
I think it's the opposite.
It doesn't slobber.
They want to go back to slobber.
Oh, so they want to be unclassy.
That's typical in Arkansas fans.
This is him doing it, not me.
859-28027.
A couple open lines.
Give us a shout.
Ryan Kerr, Kreza, said yesterday that in his entire life of playing basketball,
he's never dunked.
He's never been able to dunk.
Now, I believe he's my height.
So he's like maybe an inch shorter, 6263, says he's never, ever once dunked.
What do you think about that?
I'd say then after some conditioning in the weight training, I can see a runout before he leaves here,
goes up for the dunk, and misses it.
I think that's what's coming.
I think we're coming for that.
He's going to try it.
That was the most anticlimactic ending I've ever heard.
Can we get the guy like an adjustable realm, lower it down, like the non-teeat maybe?
say, I'm a little surprised because I've watched the kid play defense. He's really good defensively,
and he's quick, and he's close to my height, might be a little bit shorter. Now, I can't dunk now,
but there was a time I could dunk. I don't understand. I'm really surprised, Max, that he's never
been able to dunk a basketball. Now, listen, my dunking, I meant I did it like three times in my life,
never in a game. But, like, I could, like, run down and do it. Are you a little surprised? Very surprised. I mean, I thought,
if you were playing Division I basketball and you were over six foot,
everyone would be out of dunk.
Right?
I mean, I would think so.
I'm trying to think what Kentucky players, Ryan, do you think,
were never able to dunk?
Was Tyler Ullis able to dunk?
Probably not.
No.
Brandon Stockton?
Yeah.
I tell you, I don't think Brandon Stockton would have been able to.
I don't remember Wheeler ever dunking.
Severe Wheeler, yeah.
Severe Wheeler.
But those are really short guys.
Yeah.
I mean, I'm trying to think he could in the warm-ups, though?
Like, no.
You know, we had the little Kareem.
The one kid on the team last year could, have you had, Kareem Watkins?
Yes.
He could throw down.
Didn't he went like the dunk content?
He did.
He won the dunk content.
Yeah, he did.
He was under six feet tall and he could throw down.
Who is the best player, Ryan, that you can remember at Kentucky, that never dunked?
Patrick Sparks.
Travis Ford?
That's a good answer.
Somebody just said Travis Ford.
Patrick Sparks and Travis Fort.
Well, Tyler Ullis, if he didn't.
Tyler Ullus, yeah.
What about somebody?
Can you think of anybody six feet?
because I think he's six feet.
Can you think of anybody six feet that was good that never threw down a dunk ever?
Is Patrick Spark six feet?
Patrick Sparks might be six feet.
He might be six feet.
That's a really good call.
I'm trying to think who else.
Richie Farmer.
Richie's not six feet, is he?
I know he's listed at six feet, but he'll text us in a minute.
He's going to text me and tell me how tall he is.
I don't think he's six feet.
I'll tell you, kid, I don't remember ever dunking that's taller than I am.
Do you ever remember seeing Kell and Grady dunk?
That's a good call.
No, because all he did was stand out by the three-point line.
But certainly he could if he wanted to, right?
Well, I would think Kerkresa would be able to dump.
But he said he never has in his life, so I would say that he hasn't.
Well, he can't.
I love that the fact that he talks so much trash and he can't even dunk a ball.
But he also admitted it.
Yeah.
He also admitted.
Now, some good news for me, Ryan Lemon, Terry, Framette.
Rankona was named the new manager of the Reds.
Do I have any Reds fans here?
Dude, that's a good get for you guys.
Absolutely.
Two-time World Series champion.
Two-time World Series champion.
He has made the playoffs 17 of the last 22 years that he managed.
He went to three World Series, won two of them.
Ryan, of all the people I assume they get, I would argue he's the best choice they could have gotten.
In the last, what, 10, 15 years?
He's one of the top two.
or three managers in all of baseball.
And for the Reds to pull that and get that, that's a huge hire for the Reds.
He has won, Shannon, the 11th most games in the history of baseball.
And he's now, I saw the quote right before came in here.
He said he thinks this is the best young core in baseball, and he wants to be there to
watch them win the world's here.
He broke the curse of the Bambino, bringing the Red Sox two titles.
You know, I can think of another team that's got a long drought in Cincinnati Reds.
So maybe this is their chance to,
win one. And maybe most importantly for you, I was kind of wavering on renewing season tickets
till I see who they got. Now I'm going to get it and you can at least get one Braves game every
I love it. I appreciate that. I always enjoy that. That's a really nice thing that you do for us. You
give away your tickets. You're not a baseball guy. But you would watch the Redsum when you're in
Lexington. Yeah, Delhi. Yeah, I watch a little bit. Hey, Sally. Ellie. Ellie, not Ellie. You said Delhi.
You said Delhi. That's not his name. Deli. I'm thinking the Australian basketball player.
That's close. Similar, similar sports.
No, he retired, though, last year, correct?
So he's probably old...
Yeah, he retired and said he had health issues that he needed to attend to for the rest of his life.
And I guess a year later, I guess they've cleared up, Ryan, and he's back.
Makes you wonder if that's why it was kind of controversial to let go of David Bell.
They already, maybe they already knew they could get him, because that's definitely a move you would make if you knew you were going to get him.
I think you would.
And for the first time, you start to see Reds fans having a little bit of excitement.
I'm thrilled because actually, you know, all these young dudes,
they, I think, having an old timer to lead him help.
Now, I need a follow up on your whole.
That's all you need is an old guy.
When you're young, you just need an old guy telling you what to do
and tell him about his day.
That's exactly right.
I need a follow up on your swing for a home run to get season tickets.
Do you have somebody for that yet?
I'm working on a ringer.
I have somebody.
It's in two weeks.
It's just about matching the schedules.
But now I think, listen, I think,
think they're going to get a lot of excitement on their tickets.
Oh, absolutely.
859-280-2287. Rick, who's up first?
Ray is up first.
Ray, go ahead, Ray.
Hey, this is Ray from Australia, and I wanted to ask Max if you got to watch the grand
final yet.
I did.
I did get to watch the grand final, so you know it's going to ruin the school.
Brisbane Lions won the grand final everyone, so congratulations to them.
Yeah, I guess.
Yay.
But, no, Brisbane, Ryan won it was very entertaining.
you the guy who called and spoiled it for him on the pregame show?
Yes.
I'm going to tell you, for people who don't know, on the pregame show,
he had saved a game that had happened in the middle of the night,
was going to, after the pregame show, watch it.
And then this guy called and told him the winner,
and I'm going to tell you something, Ray, not to be mean.
He would have punched you in the face had you been standing in front of him at that moment.
I really hate to hear that, because I really like Matt.
I appreciate that. I didn't like you at the moment. You're back in my good books.
It's literally like if someone, if you moved to Australia and they had the conference championship game on,
and you saved it because you knew no Australians would tell you,
and then we tell you the Green Bay Packers one. It's like, come on.
Yeah, so I know you were trying, Ray, but this call, I think, help make up for it.
Good. I'm trying to make amends. Thank you. Thank you very much.
859-280-2287.
By the way, I got so many messages about festivals.
I forgot maybe the most important festival this weekend.
The Middlesbrough Fall Festival.
Oh, there you go.
So in addition to the Apple Festival, the Bourbon, St. James Faye, Sorghum,
Middlesbril Fall Festival is right in there this weekend as well.
We'll take a break and be right back.
We're here at Shady Race in the summit, KSR.
Here's not Joe.
Welcome back, Techie Sports Radio here live at Shady Race.
Shady Ray's got great deals on sunglasses, a ton of them in there.
They've got the new Kentucky blue and white sunglasses.
You got all kinds of choices, and we've got a few of them on today.
Great crowd here, 859-280-2287.
Some people writing names of folks that play at Kentucky never dunk.
Okay.
See if you agree.
All right.
Do Cameron Mills ever dunk?
I'd say at least once in his life he dunked.
You know, he couldn't do it now, but he was your son.
size, 63, 64?
A bunch of people say Duran Lamb.
I feel like I remember him dunking.
Do you think Duran threw one?
I feel like I do.
I got one, though, that's the tallest player we've ever had that hasn't dunked, and I
guarantee you he never dunked.
All right.
See if you can think of one taller.
Mark Curry.
That's a good call.
Mark Curry is the best call yet.
Yeah.
For people who remember, like, if you were to tell people Mario's age about Mark
Curry, he sounds like a mythic figure.
Dude, wasn't on scholarship, never was good, started.
Every game would play one and a half minutes and then go out,
and we'd usually be down six nothing by the time he went out.
I like to think he could dunk.
He just never had an opportunity.
He wasn't a game long enough to dunk.
There may be a lot of guys on that team.
Michael Porter.
Michael Porter could dunk.
Think he could dunk?
What about Kyle Macy?
Hmm.
I don't know.
That's your era, Ryan.
What do you think?
I don't remember ever seen him dunk.
I don't know if he could.
I mean, you know, he combined Michael Jordan to score 65 points in an NBA game one time.
I know, I've heard that.
Isaiah Briscoe.
I think he did.
I don't know.
I don't remember.
That would be it.
Mario is giving the thumbs up.
Mario, you think you got one?
All right.
One person writes, Matt, I know who could don't, but never did Justin Edwards because he missed 30 of them during the course of.
Oh, my.
That's mean.
But that's actually.
To be honest with you, I know that's mean, but that you know that's true.
Well, the vertical was there.
Just couldn't get it down.
It just never went in.
I don't think I've ever, he and Jared Prickett miss more dunks during their career than anyone at Kentucky.
859-28027.
No really good games this weekend in college football.
I mean, it's a terrible slate.
Probably for our purposes, the one I want to see the result to Max the most is
Old Miss going to South Carolina.
We beat Old Miss.
We lost to South Carolina.
Ole Miss is an eight and a half point favorite, though, there.
Who do you think it's a win?
I think it's going to be pretty close.
I want to see, like you said,
I want to see South Carolina's D-Lyline go up against Old Miss
and see if we were able to do amazing things,
or maybe the Old Miss O line isn't that great.
So that would be a big one.
Then obviously Louisville SMU will be good to watch.
I think SMU will get the job done there,
so that'll be interesting to watch too
with a down-the-road game coming out.
Yeah, South Carolina,
the scout for the NFL,
He said yesterday that he thinks South Carolina has the best defensive line in the country by decent margin,
which I thought was really interesting.
We knew it was good.
But the best in a decent margin, I think we'll get a notion of that Saturday.
Because when I look at the two teams, I know South Carolina beat us by 24, and I know we beat Old Miss there,
but I still feel like Ole Miss was better.
It might end up being different.
I think Kentucky showed the blueprint how you can slow down and beat Ole Miss.
And South Carolina, they've got the dudes that can do it.
do it, those guys up front on their defensive line.
They have a way to, I think, to rush to get some pressure on Jackson Dart and slow them down.
For our purposes, I think we want just, you know, for the 1% chance we could play a game for the
playoff.
We need Old Miss to win.
I think because South Carolina is going to lose some more games almost certainly.
Shannon, we need Old Miss to win so that Old Miss is in contention.
Maybe has the same record we do, but we've beaten them at home and we would have a Trump card off.
Talking about South Carolina's defensive line, I mean, we made them look like an NFL line in that game.
So maybe, you know, if South Carolina beats Ole Miss, maybe you feel a little bit better about that South Carolina loss.
I don't.
I want that old Miss win to have meant something.
And I want that win to have been, you know, something that was very worthwhile.
Who's next?
Danny is up next.
Danny, go ahead, Danny.
Hey, Matt, just a quick football question and I'll listen to the answer.
If the season kind of plays out the way we think it's going to, at the end of the year,
Who do you think has got more pressure on them in that Louisville versus UK game?
Brom or Stu?
Depends on what everybody's records are, right?
So, you know, if Louisville loses to, well, they've already lost to Notre Dame,
if they then lose to Clemson and they lose to Miami, you know,
we'll know they're not very good, I think, and we'll beat them, it'll be fine.
But if they come in there, the scenario that would scare Jeff Brom to death is they come
in there nine and two and a win can put them into playoffs and then we knock them out of the
playoff again like i think that would be the kind of thing that would scare it's a long way down
the road but there is a world where we could be playing them both programs nine and two and that
would just be an unbelievable lead up to the week i mean i heard you guys talk yesterday the day before
about would we beat texas would we take beating texas and tennessee and lose to louisville
absolutely not no because they because they because they because they because they're not because
Wait a minute, hang on.
You go beat Texas on the road, go beat Tennessee on the road.
Because we lose to Louisville at home, you'd rather beat Louisville and lose those guys.
Because we would be certified in the playoffs, and they'd beat us and knock us out.
100% they'd knock us out.
Because if you lose to Louisville, we'd be out of the playoffs,
and then we have to live for a year with Louisville and beating us out of the playoffs.
I want it to be, hopefully we can make it, but I want it to be the other way around.
Well, here's a scenario I think where both teams would have an unbelievable amount of pressure.
or excuse me, Ryan, if Kentucky were to win one of Texas and Tennessee, I don't think we can plan on
win them both, but win one, and we're eight and three. And they're sitting there nine and two.
Yep. Okay. That would be the scenario where there's still a chance for both teams to make it,
and the other one would put themselves in a possibility while knocking the other one out.
That scenario, an eight and three Kentucky team, and a nine and two Louisville team would be a scenario where
that might be the most tension that game has ever had or will ever have.
And that's not crazy.
That's not a crazy scenario to lay out there like that.
I think the original question, where would the most pressure be?
You almost feel like maybe it's on stoops.
It's at home, and you've got to.
You just beat them at their place last year.
In the scenario I gave you it.
Yes.
Now, if we're six and four, I don't know that I agree with that.
But if you had a scenario, Shannon, where there was something to play for.
And to get there, after this gauntlet of an SEC schedule, Louisville was all that stood in your way.
Shannon, you would have to win that game.
I would love that scenario if it played out that way.
And to me, in my opinion, that's why you have to keep Louisville on the schedule.
Because there would be nothing sweeter than beating Louisville, knocking them out of playoff contention,
and you have a chance to go to playoffs.
And that's why this playoff is so good, because everyone said, oh, it means regular season games going to mean less.
They mean so much more.
That's stupid.
So much more, because if we were going into that game and if we were eight and three and they were eight and three,
it would be like, yeah, okay, big game for us, big game for them.
But not big game in the whole scheme of things.
It means a playoff berth now if we played that game.
If you were to play it out like that.
Also, did George Alabama seem less interesting because of the play?
I mean, that George Alabama game, did those guys like half try?
Of course not.
They played all out.
But that scenario would be awesome.
And I'm with you, Shannon.
You can't cancel that game.
That's right.
be the last person in the state saying if I have to that you got to play the players they want
that game absolutely absolutely we have to play that game who's next andy is up next
andy go ahead andy hey man i got a question for you since uh you're the shoe expert uh i don't
slow down well i mean you know a lot more about it than i did put it that okay um i'm wanting
to buy a pair uh new pair of shoes and someone the price rings i don't want to
$300, $200, somewhere in there.
Okay, you can get a really nice pair of shoes for that, Andy.
Okay, but I'm looking for something that will be comfortable,
but yet, you know, pretty fashionable too.
All right, here's what I want.
This sounds like a perfect YouTube video.
Mario, what do you think about you help Andy pick out his cool pair of sneakers?
Are you in?
All right, there you go, Andy.
I'll tell you what, next time you're here for a game,
Mario will take you.
There's a couple like secondary
shoe stores that have stuff for
resale. He'll take you
and he'll make you look as good as you
can, all right?
Hey, sounds good. There you go.
Look at that. Andy didn't want to give up his comfort
for fashion. It's something he
might have to sacrifice. I understand, but I
like that. Mario will make sure
he's got the best sneakers.
I immediately looked and see what
you're going to have on today. These are Jordan
Four Raptors. These are
Like Toronto Raptors colors?
I got you.
I like them.
All right.
Well, there you go.
I'm glad I needed your approval.

Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at Shady Rays.
Great crowd.
Sun is out.
It's a little hot.
We've lost a couple people to the heat.
This will happen as the show goes on.
Some people will move to the shade back there.
I understand it's hot out here.
I feel like every time we come out here, Ryan, it ends up being hot.
Shady Rays brings the good weather.
Shady Rays is bringing it.
I saw you went and over.
I got some wild eggs muffins over there.
That's right, I did.
They were very good.
This will be, Max, a wild day at Keenland.
Oh, yes.
Opening day with this weather, that place will be, they'll be busting out of the scene.
A little too hot for the suit, though.
You know, like normally the best thing about Keenland is it's just the perfect weather to start bringing the suit out.
You know, you're at that perfect body temperature.
There's going to be a lot of people sweating.
Yeah, a lot of sweating.
It's going to be a hot day.
I'm actually glad we're not playing.
Now, Mario, come here.
just second. Come on over here.
Shane will you let him on?
Sure, quick. Come on over here.
Are we doing it?
Get up for our Super Mario.
Don't get in any hurry.
Yeah, that's what I was to say.
Mario, take your time.
We're doing our Navy Air Force.
We're not on live radio.
Take your time.
Stroll.
It's totally fine with me.
What's up?
Okay, so if you remember this week, you picked as your game of the week,
Air Force and Navy.
That's right.
Air Force and Navy.
Now, tomorrow, the game is at noon.
in honor of Mario
tomorrow all day we're given
20% off for all active
or veterans of the military
Nice
So at KS bar
Any game you come watch tomorrow
If you're a veteran
Or an active member of the military
You get 20% off and that's thanks to
Mario but Mario
Navy and Air Force play at noon
Yes I have instructed them to put it on the big screen
To put the sound on Navy Air Force
Something we've never done in our life
will there be people there to watch Navy Air Force tomorrow?
The people will show up, man.
The people will show up.
Isn't that right, guys?
People would show up.
Now, Billy, a while back, he said people would show up to watch Western.
I didn't believe him.
And then people did show up.
Do you think they will show up for you tomorrow with Navy and Air Force?
Even bigger crowd.
Even bigger crowd.
Okay.
Now, will you stop by and say hi to people?
I will.
I will.
All right, good.
So Navy and Air Force.
it's at noon, who you got to win?
In true military fashion,
no non-U.S. citizens
would be allowed into KS bar, so
all the fellow Australians and Canadians
and all that, don't bother going to KS bar tomorrow.
They just have to pay full price.
So let's pick it.
The Mario Game of the Week.
Max, who you got, Navy or Air Force?
Navy's a wagon. I'd love to see Navy
play Army at the back end of the season, both
undefeated for a playoff spot. That would be awesome.
So I'll take Navy. I'll take the Navy as well.
You got it? You know, I'm an Army guy.
My brother, we're doing.
West Point. I hate to pick Navy because of him, but Navy's going to win. I go Navy. Shannon.
Air Force. I'm not standing for this disrespect of Air Force. All right, Air Force. There we go.
Now, Mario, you picked the game of the week. Who you got? I got Navy. Navy's got the better
records. I'm going to Navy. All right, so there you go. So that's at noon tomorrow.
Mario, we'll see how it will see how it goes. So you take a picture and I want to see how it ends up.
It's going to be packed. All right, there you go. Appreciate it. Give Mario a big round of applause.
Other games, like we said, Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, Texas, A&M.
and South Carolina Ole Miss.
I have a fact for you based on somebody just sent in.
Ryan, I feel like you'll get this right.
Okay.
Can you name the only high school in America that is part of one state high school association
but is physically located in a different state?
Oh.
And it's in Kentucky.
The only high school in America that is part of one state high school association
but is physically located in a different state.
Can you get this correct? Kentucky is the only one that has it, and it's one school.
Fulton County?
That's actually a good guess, but that's incorrect.
Anybody else have a guess?
Anybody?
Belfrey's no.
I was thinking Fulton, too.
Fort Campbell High School is actually in Tennessee, but plays in the Kentucky thing.
See, it was based on what Max's experience yesterday with Fort Knox.
So there's a little fat.
I love that.
Who's up next?
Greg is up next.
Greg, go ahead, Greg.
I learned that on my trip.
Very good.
Yeah, guys.
Go ahead, Greg.
I'm talking again about Ricky Farmer here.
Yes.
All right.
I had a friend that went to a barnstorming tour after Richie's senior season,
and he claimed to me that Richie Farmer was dunking all over the place.
Don't believe.
They were throwing an alley-eastern everything.
Don't believe it.
I mean, I might believe he could have thrown a dug down.
But Shannon, Richie Farmer was not dunking on players.
I don't know about that.
I think Richie could have done it back in the day.
I don't believe it.
Richie claimed on this show that he had a 40-inch vertical.
He had one guy called in.
A lot of things have been claimed on this show, too, that aren't necessarily the case.
I'm going to throw out the gun with somebody else call in and verify this.
All right, we'll see.
I appreciate the call.
Feldhouse could dunk.
Pelfrey could dunk.
You know, Richie was in great shape playing for Petino.
I can see him maybe being able to dunk.
Sean Woods could dunk.
Oh, yeah.
So three of the four, Richie, I love you.
I think there's a good chance Buck Stivers dunked as you did.
Now, he can out shoot anybody.
Who's up next?
David is up next.
David.
Go ahead, David.
Hey, Matt.
Sorry.
It's on topic today.
I usually catch up on the podcast.
I was wondering,
Would you rather have a bunyan lesson or a Tim Couch story?
What?
A bunion lesson or a Tim Couch story.
Oh, I know what he's talking about.
Appreciate the call.
By the way, I had a lot of people after our show yesterday tell me about their bunions on the text machine.
Very nice.
That's what you want to hear about.
Yeah.
I mean, if you wanted to reply on the text machine, starting it about your bunions was probably not the way to go.
But I was amazed, Shaded, how many people guessed which CVS I was talking about.
Because it is.
I'm telling you, you could do a reality show in that series.
And that was in Louisville, right?
It's the one in Louisville.
I think I know the one.
Yes.
I mean, I'm telling you, you could do a reality show.
Who's next?
Kyle is up next.
Kyle, go ahead, Kyle.
Two things for you.
All right, the first one, if we're able to beat Duke in the Champions class,
I think there's going to be a huge of this bandmate that we haven't seen in a long time.
And two.
I think if we, on that point, before you go to the second one, before you go the second one,
I think if we beat Duke to start the season, Ryan, this fan base will lose their collective minds.
I mean, the next few games will be absolutely awesome.
We are overdue to celebrate.
We're an overdue fan base to have something to be excited about, and that would do it.
Start the season off with a new coach, new players, and beat Duke, that would absolutely do it.
One of the underrated things, Drew talks about this a lot.
We haven't been good at the Champions Classic.
I think we're like two and six or two and seven in the last eight or nine of them.
We need, I'm not saying we're going to beat them because I think they're going to be really good,
but it would be awesome for the excitement of this fan base max to go get a win in that early game.
I mean, I don't know if you've even seen us win a Champions Classic game.
I was going to say, I was going to hop on Drew's point.
It always seems like at the start of the season we'll drop a couple early,
and Cal would always say, well, we're young, which is true.
This year is the opposite.
When is the last time we won a Champions Classic game?
They didn't play it the COVID year
The year after that so they didn't play it that year
I think we lost the last couple are we talking pre-COVID since we've won a champion's classic game
19 maybe that is unbelievable
Was it 19? No, we won that one that was when I got McConnell kicked me off the air
That was my last day on the air and they won and they won I did the post game show and you may remember I wasn't allowed to be on the show the next day
So it's all Mitch McConnell's fault Mitch McConnell with the curse of Mitch McConnell who was your second point? I
sir he's gone no that's right that we that was tyrese maxi scored like 30 points in the garden right oh yeah yeah
yeah it's right i went to the game it was the night of the governor's election i remember and then i did the
post game show at like 1 30 in the morning and then the next day woke up and had a message i couldn't be
on the radio wow what a great memory so now it's time to reverse that curse by going and winning here
