Those people are starving for banter.

This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me.
Starting point is 00:01:19 He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue 42. A rep. My mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's he at?

Your 20s can be so exciting, but they can also be really overwhelming, confusing, and honestly, just kind of lonely. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the psychology of your 20s is breaking down the science behind the biggest roadblocks we face. I was six years into my career, the 80-hour weeks, and just the first one in, the last one out, and I ended up burning out. There was a large chunk of my 20s that I, like, was just so wanting to, like, be out of that phase out of my skin. And I just, like, really regret not living in the present more. You don't need to have everything figured out right now.
Starting point is 00:02:47 You just need to understand yourself a little bit better. Listen to the psychology of your 20s on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now, here's Matt Jones. Welcome back, Techie Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:04:04 859-2-80-2287. Text machine 772-7-7-4. I'm about to read you something that's going to blow your mind. I'm ready. All right, first of all, Virgie beat Middlesbril, 71. That was clearly a home court advantage. But I'm going to read you about Ig anduk. This is from the Bell Caneck.
Starting point is 00:04:24 County Historical Society, Shannon. Okay. Didn't think this was coming on the show today. No, this is great. This is the Bell County Historical Society. This is not just some guy. This is not off the Internet. This is official record.
Starting point is 00:04:36 This is from the historical side. Clyde Ig Fusin and Herschel Ugg Fusin were two of Middlesbril's biggest heroes. I remember this part. They grew up in a time of Great Depression and were as in World War II and fought in the war, it looks like fought in World War II. Ig was one year older than Ugg. Okay. Both nicknames Ig and Ugg were given by their older sister when their two boys were young.
Starting point is 00:05:05 Clyde's name Ig was shortened by his sister for ignorant and Herschel's name Ugg was shortened for ugly. Typical older sister. Calling her little brothers. So the sister Shannon called them Ig and Ugg for Ignoll. and ugly, and it stuck with them their whole lives. They just embraced the name Ig and Hug at that point. And when they were in World War II, their comrades would also call them Ig and Ug, the fellow soldiers. So ignorant came before Ugly, right?
Starting point is 00:05:39 Unbelievable. First of all, what's the sister doing? I got to say, if anyone is allowed to do it, I think an older sister is the one that can get away with it. Apparently it was said in jest and love. Yeah. They each won all state. football three times during their high school career and the MHS high school cheerleading team had this chant for Ig.
Starting point is 00:06:03 He's a peach. He's a dream. He's the captain of our team. Very catchy. We need more cheers like that. Do you think, Drew, like, I think that would be. I might try that at the tailgates. Do you think we get the UK cheerleaders and they could chant that about Jackson
Starting point is 00:06:22 Robin? he's a peach he's a dream he's the captain of our team do it this weekend for uh brock vander if he's a georgia peach he's georgia he's our peach how about right there how about that you think we can get the stadium chanely he's a peach he's a dream uh probably not do you think that maybe tom leech can work it into the broadcast i don't know i think so tom hart hart got the game saturday well then you know he's going to do you can we get ing and hug in the game on saturday perfect we're we're getting a
Starting point is 00:06:53 he's a peach on a big prognative of play very and Jordan Rogers is going to say what are you talking what are you talking about there you go unfortunate thank you for the history lesson there that that was bill who uh who who sent me the thing all right um Kentucky has a new basketball player by the way uh we saw him yesterday uh I was like who's that guy and uh drew to his credit goes I think that guy's from Madisonville from across the gym he did and I said there's no you're just saying that like you're just saying like he's from Madisonville. Well, he is from Madisonville. Yeah, he is.
Starting point is 00:07:26 Remember they had a tryout for the students? Yes. The winner of the tryout was Zachary Toe. He's from Mad. What? Tao. Spelled like tow, but they say tow. How do you know that?
Starting point is 00:07:37 It's just kind of a common name in Western Kentucky. It is? Okay. Zachary Tao. Yeah. Zachary Tao tried out. He is now on the team. He's number 20.
Starting point is 00:07:48 Apparently, people said he's got to like finish he's on the team but not on the team yet. I don't know what that means, but he was practicing with the team yesterday. At his own number. Exactly. Yeah, he had a number. Except he wasn't on the roster,
Starting point is 00:08:00 which I thought, you know, how are we supposed to know who that is? It's kind of like Big Z last year. Still getting figured out a little bit. So Zachary Tow from Madisonville, he's a president of a fraternity. His sister played softball at Alabama
Starting point is 00:08:11 and was like... Three-time All-American. Three-time All-American. Yeah, their brother's sister. That's her sister. His sister sent me a picture. last night of him as a little kid sitting in the stands cheering for Kentucky with a Kentucky shirt with his big ears look like me and Drew as a little kid.
Starting point is 00:08:29 I thought that was really cool. Love the ears, Zach. Yeah, I'd be, I like the ears. So listen, what is more Kentucky than having a tryout at the school and then a kid for Madisonville wins the tryout and is on the team? How cool is that? If this is a tradition that Mark Pope is going to do every year, I love it. I love it.
Starting point is 00:08:47 I'm all for it. We'll give one Kentucky kid a chance to walk on and be a part of the team. How awesome is that? You know I'm fired up. I know him a little bit. He was on the, you know, we don't get many state tournament runs. Remember everybody came to the bar that year? He was on that team.
Starting point is 00:09:01 One of the first and only game since 1989 in the Sweet 16. If I may brag for a minute, I went into the Hopkins County Hall of Fame. I remember that. And Kaylee Tau was in my class. In my speech, I gave Zach a shout out for that tournament run. So got a little full circle. That's why I was so excited to see him yesterday. It had grown his hair out a little bit, so I needed to know us him.
Starting point is 00:09:21 but I'm thrilled to have a maroon. And how about Kentucky having two players from Region 2 on this team? That's amazing. Yeah, we got two second regioners and a 13th regioner. Got the, you know, full state feeling there on the team. So that is very cool. Very excited for him. Yeah, 13th Region last year with Reed.
Starting point is 00:09:39 So both you guys' regions have been represented in the last couple of years. Shannon, between me and you, it's just you and me. It's hawking, right? Okay. We're not going to, because, like, you know, we love our basketball team. But they now have a lot of managers that are also kind of practicing with the team. They basically divide into four teams, first team, second team, the kind of hybrid walk-on, a couple of the players team, and then there's a manager team.
Starting point is 00:10:02 And the manager team, it looks to me like has like four guys that can ball. And then there's a guy that is now my favorite person associated with the UK basketball. Okay. Shannon, this dude has got to be 35 years old. Oh, no. He's got a full beard. He looks just like JD Mans. Maybe it is.
Starting point is 00:10:26 It might be. I don't know whether he was on the campaign trail yesterday or not. He looks just like JD Man's. He wears, like, you know how older guys wear, like, knee braces. Like a YMCA guy. He's got, like, a lot of layers on, you know. And when he plays, he gets really tired. And that was the thing Drew and I noticed.
Starting point is 00:10:49 Like a couple times up and down the court, he's tired. And I've decided he's my favorite. Like, I had to keep watching him because he's kind of a big guy. Yeah. So he's fighting with Amari Williams and Garrison. And he's holding his own shit. Right. Like he's huffing and he's puffing.
Starting point is 00:11:04 Fighting for his life out there? Oh, he is fighting for his life out there hanging on. And I don't know who he is, but I'm a huge fan of him. It basically looks like they are making 35-year-old dreams happen. by letting them be on the court and fight with the UK bass. This wasn't like a fantasy thing or anything. I don't know. It might have been.
Starting point is 00:11:25 Maybe it is a fantasy thing. Shut up for the wrong date. You just get to, but I loved it, Drew. Not that I do anything athletic, but I feel much older than I am, like my back. I've got these knee things going on now. And when he ran a fast break drill and stopped and immediately went for his lower back and his knees, I said, I know that person. That person is me just carrying something up steps.
Starting point is 00:11:47 That's right. He was doing that thing. you do when you play in the YMCA where you run really hard until everybody's past you and then you're like, all right, nobody's looking, then you just kind of jog the rest of the way. He would like stand at the three-point line and be like, all right, I'm open out here if anybody wants some. Now our guys, like our starters are looking good against this guy, right? Like, they're dunking on this guy. They do this thing where four teams, like they just keep going up and down and up and down the court
Starting point is 00:12:10 and it requires four teams of guys. Oh, I got you. So he's on what he's on the manager part of the team. He's not sitting any records, though, going up and down that floor. Yeah. If you would go to a cow practice, not many people there, and the team was the team. Pope seems to have a million practice players. Million people there. I guess the rules have changed where more coaches and stuff can be on the floor because there's a million people on the floor.
Starting point is 00:12:33 But it was good. At the corner break, is he sneaking outside to smoke a heater, Book of Barbaro? That was last year. Yeah. I think there's no. Who's up next? Po. Poe. How are you, Poe?
Starting point is 00:12:48 I'm doing good guys how are y'all good what's up jd vans spent a lot of time in kentucky where they teach you fundamentals and i remember has it they can ball like prince is just incognito maybe so i don't know if he's a good athlete or not the the vance guy but this guy's living our dream poe very jealous of yeah but about cow man i know you don't take it serious of these these trolls anyway because you're You're right. I was ready for Cal to go myself and the BBM, I think, three or four years ago.
Starting point is 00:13:27 And I think my question is, I think they should have got Pearl when they got Cal to start with. How come Pearl didn't interview with, I'm still not straight on how come Pearl couldn't interview with Kentucky on this. Are you talking about this time? Are you talking about this time? So, again, you have to go back to the timing of how it all played out. out, but the, but the, but the, the, the basic reason is I think Pearl was one of kind of the final, uh, the final candidates. And, um, then I think Eli Capiluto and maybe, uh, some folks on the board of trustees, uh, said that, that Mitch would not be able to, uh, consider him.
Starting point is 00:14:11 And I think the reason was, um, his history with the NCAA and, you know, maybe also some of the stuff we've seen in the last few months where he's decided to be very vocal about his political beliefs maybe UK didn't want that. I don't know that that was part of it, but I think there was a sense of they kind of wanted to have somebody that was like an all-in team person, and I think maybe Capiludo didn't necessarily feel like Pearl, Pearl was that. Okay. Well, the old Pope, I'm happy for him and I feel good about this team. We're going to get some ball movement for once just stand around dribble drive. Yeah, no, you'll see a lot of ball, not bowel movement during the time.
Starting point is 00:14:56 So hopefully, maybe you'll see both. I don't know, but you will definitely see the ball movement. So thank you, Poe, I appreciate it. For those of you that wanted ball movement, you don't have to worry about it. You're going to get a lot of that now. Yeah, I think about Pearl the first time around, it was just fresh off him getting in trouble with the NCAA. And so that's why Mitch Barnes stayed way away from that the first time around for sure. I think if they, if he hadn't gotten that,
Starting point is 00:15:18 mandate from on high, I think Pearl would have been interviewed and who knows, might have been the coach. But I think as it all played out, I think it worked out the way it should have. Do you agree with that? Yeah, and yesterday, I know we've all seen it interviews and other stuff, but it's just so clear, Pope's love and appreciate that dude is so happy to be here and care so much. I'm switching thoughts here for a second, but I even noticed yesterday, they've changed. Did you see the team apparel, says Kentucky's team on the front? No long. It doesn't say like it's that same font. It doesn't say Kentucky. It says Kentucky's team.
Starting point is 00:15:53 That's just kind of example of how this is working out with Pope. We didn't know that he would bring all this nostalgia and this Kentucky connection back the way that he has. But now that we're seeing it and seeing more of it last night, it feels like the perfect guy for the job. Totally, totally agree with that. Who's next? Kentucky Cat. Kentucky Cat, 859-280-2287. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:16:12 Morning, fellas. Morning, morning, morning, morning. Morning. Morning. By the cause, is to the guy they called earlier. People like him really chapped my backside. You know what? Cal run himself out of this program.
Starting point is 00:16:24 He was a good ambassador for us. He went around, you know, he's done things, raised money. He gave the interviews. And that's the end of the last four or five years. He was a sore-ass loser. Oh, sorry about that. He, you know, he wouldn't talk to the people, the media afterwards and stuff. He run himself out.
Starting point is 00:16:39 I never thought I'd take up for you, Matt. But today I am. I'm glad to be a Kentucky fan. I'm glad we got Pope. He recruits the in-state recruits heavily. And, you know, that guy just, he can go to that and sit on the bench and lose the first round again with NCAA with Arkansas and leave us alone. Stay the hell out of Kentucky. There you go.
Starting point is 00:16:58 I appreciate the call. Wow. I like that. That's my Kentucky. Whiskey thief. With Whiskey thief call today. Shout out to whiskey thief. By the way, those of you coming in for the bourbon trail, include the whiskey thief.
Starting point is 00:17:12 You get to take that thing and do the, what do you call it? The whiskey thief. That's what it's called. That's called the whiskey thief. And, like, put it in your barrel and get it out. Yeah. Big things are coming from. I think they have a better explanation of that than I just give, game.
Starting point is 00:17:25 But you know what? Scary, Drew, when you don't know where your meat comes from. Yes. Well, when you shop at a big box store, you don't know where that cow was raised. Nope. But at No-Chalinda Farms, their beef is locally grown. You know it's Kentucky beef. Hand-fed.
Starting point is 00:17:39 No steroids. No hormones. No Jose Canseco's out there. I trust Steve Grissom. Real. beef for 20 they dry it for 24 hours and get it to you it's a kentucky proud partner and if you get shipping you can get it usually the next day it's pretty quick it's so good no j linda farms dot com no c hie linda farms dot com get the best beef at the highest quality and it's from kentucky
Starting point is 00:18:03 you call 859 707 7704 or nochelinda farms uh com we'll take a break and be right back here at ks Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines.
Starting point is 00:18:29 We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves. Their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. SportsSlice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to SportsSlice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slic Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok.
Starting point is 00:19:03 What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds. like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
Starting point is 00:19:25 We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us every. everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
Starting point is 00:19:44 we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:20:05 or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the Fourth. And on my podcast, The Clifford Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker whops up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
Starting point is 00:20:24 What? Come on out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:20:46 If you're watching the latest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, you already know there's a lot to break down. Gorsha accusing Kelly of sleeping with a merry man. They holding Kay Michelle back from fighting Drew. Pinky has financial issues. I like the bougie style of Housewives show. I think it looks like it's going to be interesting. On the podcast, Reality with the King, I, Carlos King. Recap the biggest moments from your favorite reality shows, including the Real Housewives franchise, the drama, the alliances, and the T, everybody's talking about.
Starting point is 00:21:19 As an executive producer in reality television, I'm not just watching it. I understand the game. As somebody who creates shows, I'll even say this. At the end of the day, when people are at home, they want entertainment. To hear this and more, listen to Reality with the King on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever, you get your podcast. The story I've told myself about love or relationships can then shape my behavior, and that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection. This mental health awareness month, tune into the podcast deeply well with Debbie Brown and explore the journey of healing, self-discovery, and returning to yourself.
Starting point is 00:22:03 We explore higher consciousness, emotional well-being, and the practices that help you find clarity, peace and self-mastery in a world that can feel overwhelming. The world is becoming lonelier. We're not becoming more social and connected. We're becoming more individualized, but we actually meet people in connection. If you've been searching for a soft place to land while doing the work to become whole, this podcast is for you to hear more. Listen to deeply well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the Iheart Radio app,
Starting point is 00:22:36 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your. podcast. Yeah, blame it on the rain. Or Matt Jones, whichever one you want. 859, 280, 2287. Have you watched any of the, did you watch the Menendez Brothers show? Oh, yeah, that was all of my flights on vacation,
Starting point is 00:22:55 watching those episodes. Yeah, I didn't, I've only seen the first episode, but I'm amazed how much of it is their love of Millie Vanilli, which I found to me kind of, that was a throwback a little bit. Yeah, you know, apparently they're putting out a documentary, like next week that gives kind of the other side of it, I guess. I guess, you know, it's funny. That was 30 years ago now, 30, what, 35 years ago?
Starting point is 00:23:20 And people forget it was kind of like the first big trial. It was. And then it got sort of overshadowed by OJ and kind of went out of the headlines. They kind of go into that a lot, like getting their hair right and I got to look good. This is the first trial that's been, you know, broadcast all across the country. I normally hate reenactments like that, but I think it's pretty well done. Yeah. I haven't seen, I've seen that first episode, but they're all.
Starting point is 00:23:42 a lot of scenes where they, apparently the actors do exactly and say exactly what they said on the stand in the courtroom and stuff. Like they move and things they do or they wanted it to be exactly the way it was. Yeah. One person writes, Matt, not trying to be antagonistic, but. Anybody want to guess whether or not the next thing is antagonistic? No, it definitely is. 100%.
Starting point is 00:24:03 I'm not a 300 on draft. I love you, but. Can you explain how Calipari saying you got him fired is different than you saying Amy McGrath or Mitch McConnell got you taken off television? or radio. Neither of those people had the authority to take you off. Fair point. You make the decision. I went on the radio and said, you know what? We shouldn't lose to Oakland. Amy McGrass campaign manager called my boss at Channel 18 and said, if you all don't take Matt off the air, we will not spend money with you in the campaign, a campaign where she had ungodly amounts of
Starting point is 00:24:42 money. And he, that's not me alleging it. He bragged about it in an interview that he did. You can go, go look at it. Mitch McConnell got the Republican Party to file an FEC complaint against me for being on the radio that by law, I heart, if they put me back on, would owe triple damages if they were found to have violated it. And McConnell had the commission to where they didn't have a quorum, So they couldn't meet to decide it, so I was stuck. So in both cases, that wasn't, it wasn't like Amy McGrath went on TV and said, I wish Matt Jones wasn't on TV. Her people literally called my boss.
Starting point is 00:25:26 And in Mitch McConnell's case, he used the federal government to try to, well, to get me off the air. So I don't think that's quite the same thing as going, can we beat St. Peters in a basketball game? I can verify everything you just said. Factual, yes. They called Channel 18. Fetting to pull all their advertising. Fetting to pull all of their advertising, which would end up being millions of dollars. They make a lot of money during the political season on advertising.
Starting point is 00:25:57 So, yes. So, no, I do not believe those are the same things. Who's up next? Gail. Gail. Go ahead, Gail. I want to say Mario did a fantastic job. job on his video of the pro days. That was really nicely done. I will tell him you said that. Thank you, Gail. She liked your video, Mario. Get shouts, Mario.
Starting point is 00:26:22 My second thing is, Cal always, whenever there was a crisis or a disaster, was one of the first to start a GoFundMe or a donation link to help the crisis victims. Pope hasn't done a thing. Now, the football team did the Samaritans purse donation link. Pope hasn't done anything. Yeah, well, first of all, I think the university is doing it through the football team because the football season is going on right now. I would say to you, Gail, and I'd be careful saying Mark Pope hasn't done anything, because to be fair, Gail, you might not know what he's done, right?
Starting point is 00:27:13 Like maybe he's done something personally and we don't know. And as far as like raising it in a public manner, I think because it's basketball season and in past times it has been, or excuse me, because it's football season, in past times because it's been basketball season, I think the UK is using its efforts through the football team. Well, I would think it would be a joint venture. Well, I'm sure it is. And I would make a bet. I don't know this, but I would make a bet.
Starting point is 00:27:46 bet that at some point during the next week when you have Big Blue Madness and you have a lot of attention in basketball, I think you will see the basketball folks push people in that direction as well. I hope so. All right. I appreciate it, Gail. There you go. Okay, thank you.
Starting point is 00:28:06 And we've said that many times. That was one thing that Coach Cal was really, really good at. It's raised money. But, you know, the situation out in Florida is going to be awful the next couple of days. and I fully expect the University of Kentucky to help. They'll step up and do some sort of relief fun for all of our brother and then being affected by it. What I told you I was hearing yesterday is now official.
Starting point is 00:28:25 Rick Patino will be at the UK football game on Saturday. All right, so let's discuss this for a second. First of all, if he's there on Saturday, Big Blue Madness Friday night, I'm not saying, I'm just saying I think there's probably a pretty good chance he shows his face at that. But put that to the side. let's say you're in charge of UK athletics Rick Petino's at the game Saturday
Starting point is 00:28:49 you bring him out on the field maybe you have to see how his introduction goes at madness first and if it's let's just assume he only comes to the football game so you don't get a chance to find out I say no I don't even think they really recognize I'd say would you no I would I would and you know no but I've never
Starting point is 00:29:11 I mean who I went to his trial Who would be a bigger? I mean, I haven't had. I don't know if there's anybody I've ever been a bigger critic of. So one of those in the end zone, Christy Thomas introduces him at a quarter break, something like that. If Tubby Smith was there, they would absolutely do it. If Joe B. Hall had been there. Do it.
Starting point is 00:29:31 If Mark Pope's there. Do it. Rick Petino. At this point, after all this time, why not? Do they do it for those people? I know when they've been like in the whole. Hall of Fame. I just don't remember them doing it.
Starting point is 00:29:45 I mean, they bring people out all the breaks. They'll bring former players out or basketball players or Cindy McLaughlin or whatever. I mean, you do it? Okay. So do you do it not just by himself, but maybe you have him and Pope both out there at the same time? I mean, you might do that to make sure. First of all, let's say they brought him out. Because if Pope's out there too, everybody's going to clap.
Starting point is 00:30:08 Yeah. Here's my question. I want to ask this going to the break. Use the text machine. 772-7-4-5-25. You're at the U.K. football game. They introduced former University of Kentucky basketball coach Rick Petino. Good idea, bad idea.
Starting point is 00:30:24 Yes, no. Just that simple. And then would you clap? Yes or no. 772-774-55-4. During this break, I'll tally it up and I'll see what percentage is yes. I think the percentage is going, well, think in your head of what the percentage will be. I'm thinking it in my head of the people drinking all day and having that opportunity they've been waiting for.
Starting point is 00:30:45 Let me just ask you just the folks in here. How many of you would say yes, do it? Okay. How many of you would say no? One. Are you a Kentucky fan? Okay. So there you go.
Starting point is 00:30:57 We'll be right back. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. Techie Sports Radio. I would guess.
Starting point is 00:31:12 So in this place, numbers were very similar. I'm guessing seven out of eight, yes. But now there's some emphatic no people, but most people, it seems like, seven out of eight, yes. There's no way they're bringing him to the game, and they're not going to do so. First of all, somebody reminded me he's a football donor. Yes, he is. I knew that. Admitted it.
Starting point is 00:31:39 You know? So maybe he's being invited with some of the 96 guys. Maybe it's a team thing and he walks out with him. Maybe. All right, let's do, let's, let's be, let's break it down just intellectually. Why would someone still dislike Rick today? I can tell you why I disliked him when he was at Louisville. I could give you 10 reasons.
Starting point is 00:32:00 But today, what is the reason to dislike him? Somebody get Marsha on the phone, she'll tell you. Well, Marsha could make the case. You're right. I'll start with the gigantic Louisville Cardinals tattoo on his back. Okay. The last time he was here, he flipped all of us off. Okay.
Starting point is 00:32:17 Those are two pretty strong reasons. Those are two big ones. No, I'm not. I'm just laying them out because there's a case for not booing. And then there's a case for booing him. So the case or case for not liking him, it's that he flipped us off. It's that he was a Cardinals coach, he has a tattoo, et cetera. All right, so anything else?
Starting point is 00:32:41 Any other reason for the negative? I guess someone would say morality, like the various stuff that happened there. Although most of the people who say morality, chances are there's somebody you really liked it. Yeah. We don't know. The other coach's morality either. It has the same morality issues on the other side. All right.
Starting point is 00:32:59 What's the case for liking for saying yes? He's clearly re-express love for this place. Yes. Right? I mean, he's clearly, he's not apologized for any of those things, like the flip-off and all that, but he clearly loves his place. It ain't hard to see he loves us more than he loves Louisville. That's very clear.
Starting point is 00:33:24 I mean, let's be real. He won, I mean, the Louisville people got to be losing to find. Right. He's in the middle of a season, and he's leaving St. John's to come here. He also helped bring Mark Pope into this fold with that video, right? Then you add the history when he was here. Nineties Kentucky basketball was the first step in making this program transition from kind of your grandfather's program to a program for the modern era.
Starting point is 00:34:02 That went into full-fledged with Cal, but Rick was certainly the first part of that. I mean, I think, and I'm a big believer, if you listen to this show, in forgiveness, over time, it's been, he left here in 1997. I mean, it's going on 30 years. He's been out of Louisville for at least, what year did he go away? 18, 19, so it's been five or six years since he's been at Louisville. Ryan, I, you know, to the extent anyone knows me nationally, it probably started by me criticizing that dude and laughing at the things that were happening at that trial.
Starting point is 00:34:47 Even I say at some point, you know what? Let bygones be back. Because like you said, he obviously loves our coach. He obviously wants Mark Pope to succeed. He wants Kentucky to succeed now because one of his guys is leading our program. So yeah, I know what the tide has turned to, lot and people are now more in favor of him and would applause. There's still going to be dudes
Starting point is 00:35:08 that'll boo, I think, at the football game if they introduce there'll be some people. There'll be some people. Clearly seven, because I see seven out of eight on the text machine, but there are some of the eighth ones going, I will boo him. Yeah. Drew. Yeah, I put on KSbor. Boy, there are some people just waiting to boo. Now, it's still majority ready.
Starting point is 00:35:25 That was why I voted no. Just with Kentucky having such a big football game, why even have that distraction? Now, if you brought him out with Pope and other members of that team and he's holding the trophy. At that point, it's more of an acknowledgement of 1996 than just look, Rick Petino's here, if that makes sense. Channon, what about you? I'm okay with it. I'm with you, Matt. I think, you know, at some point you've got to move on. And like you said, he still loves Kentucky. And I think
Starting point is 00:35:51 that if he had the chance, he probably would have taken that job to come back to Kentucky if they offered it to him. I mean, look, I understand to some extent I'm weird. We've talked about, like, maybe to a lot of extends I'm weird but like on one thing I'm different than most people like I'm still friends with everyone I've been in a serious relationship but like like I still
Starting point is 00:36:14 I still interact with all of them and still have like positive feelings I you know I one of the cool things for me and Drew knows this is for a long time you know there was a period of time where
Starting point is 00:36:31 there was some tension between me and TJ Bisoner. And when he left, we've been kind of able to reconnect. And that's been a really neat thing for me because I shared so much of building the website with him. And now, you know, he and I have kind of been able to be back and be friends. And like that, that's important to me. Like, Rick's a huge part of our history, you know, like Rick's a huge part of our history. And he was the coach of the best team to ever be here. And I'm a on some level like we should appreciate that.
Starting point is 00:37:06 Oh, I hear you. I think 1996 was the best year in the history of human civilization, and Rick Petino was a big part of that. Loved, everyone has fond memories, that nostalgia. I just don't need it the moment Pope is back to be like, here I am.
Starting point is 00:37:22 I get it. I get that. Maybe this is just a way we kind of tiptoe into it. We introduce him with the whole team tiptoe into it because in 2026, if he comes back, that 30-year reunion game, that's when maybe... And then there's the petty part, Shannon. What's that?
Starting point is 00:37:37 The petty part is that would really make somebody mad down the road. Oh, yeah. I mean, well, actually, make two groups of people mad. Make the people 65 miles down the road mad. And it'd make somebody in the Tyson chicken territory
Starting point is 00:37:54 pretty mad to. I mean, let's just be real. Those would have two very strong reactions. Who's next? Marsha. Marsha. Well, I can tell that. I know. He's got to be undercooked.
Starting point is 00:38:06 All right, Marsha, I will give you the floor. You're in the kitchen. All right. And I agree with Drew's summations there. I do not agree with Shannon that he loves Kentucky. He loves what Kentucky did for him. I agree with that. And we appreciate what he did while he was here.
Starting point is 00:38:27 But do you want your program, associated with what he has become. I mean, he has the morals of an al-a-cat. I don't disagree. Well, I don't disagree with some of that. I would say this, Marcia, if we're being honest, and I'm not talking about you here, I'm just talking about people in general.
Starting point is 00:38:49 We all, to some extent, like a person, feel affinity for a person that probably has some moral things that have happened that are not the best. It's, you know, I think it's very easy to cast stones. And like, I'm not saying that there are, I think there are lines that you cross that are too much. But at its core, at its core, let me put it like this. Do I think Rip Cito is a bad person because he cheated at U of L?
Starting point is 00:39:22 Not really, because most of the stuff he did is probably legal now. Do I think he's a bad person because he had that night at the restaurant? He shouldn't have done that. But I think there's a lot of people, unfortunately, that have cheated on their spouses, and I don't think we can hate everyone that's ever done that, Marcia. Oh, I don't hate nobody, but I have no respect for him at all. He left here, fine, good, so long.
Starting point is 00:39:50 And Tubby left. Tubby has never said one bad word about Kentucky fans. He has not. Rick. Rick has made his little jabs. Marvellic remarks flipped us off. I've never heard an apology. I love Mark
Starting point is 00:40:07 Pope. I'm going to support Mark Pope. And out of respect for Mark Pope, I will not boo Rick Petino. But I don't want nothing to do with him. He is still blaming Andre McGee. Andre McGee is a person with the family.
Starting point is 00:40:22 And Rick Petino will not take accountability for what went on at U.S. And he was the head dog. It lies with him. So that's why I have no respect for him. I think they're shoving Rick down
Starting point is 00:40:38 our throat a little too soon. Let us ease into it. That's the way I feel about it. Appreciate the call. So there's the counter view of it. So it'll be interesting to see. He's coming Saturday. So the first question is, will he be introduced? The second
Starting point is 00:40:54 question is, if he's introduced, is he introduced with Pope or the 96th? And then the third question, is if he doesn't do anything, what happens? Like, is he up in the stands waving? Like, it'll be, actually adds a little more spice to the thing on Saturday, doesn't it, Ryan? I, the fact they've announced he's coming. Well, they haven't announced. I heard he was coming last week. Adam Zagoria, I guess, confirmed with Rick that he's coming. Well, it makes no sense at all if he's not going to be there Friday night for Mark Pope's first madness. Yeah, I mean,
Starting point is 00:41:24 let's also, Keenland, he's coming in for the whole weekend. That's a big horse guy. And it would not shock me. Pope's first madness. Pope might be having a team reunion with all those guys that he's thrown together to kick off his first season, which I would fully expect Rick Petino to be invited and take part in that. It's just the him by himself bringing him out, I think is a bad idea. I've tried to have him on this show. I've been rebuffed a couple times. Who's that Rick? Yeah. He's been on the show. Yeah, but I've tried to have him with me. I understand he was on this show with the bar stool guys, but I've tried to have him with me and I've been rebuffed. and maybe one day we'll see if that happens too.
Starting point is 00:42:02 I do think he should apologize for the flipping on. I do think that would help. And tattoos got to go. They got procedures now. They got lasers. I think you want a little fans to really hate him having to cover up. We'll get a cover up. We'll cover that thing up.
Starting point is 00:42:19 That would be tough. Don Franklin's family of dealerships, prices are falling. Starting point is 00:42:37 859-280-2287. In the last segment, I'll give everybody, Shannon, 30 seconds to make their patino opinion. All right? So everybody on. How about 15 seconds? 15 seconds to make an honor of Rick. He gets less than 15 seconds to make your patino,
Starting point is 00:42:54 yes or no opinion right after this. Okay, it's fine. Last night, a blown call. changed the game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo. Starting point is 00:44:11 challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night to night basis on offense. And when I
Starting point is 00:44:27 T's friends stop by like Quentin Richardson. We dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash will get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. First of all, Big Blue Madness Friday, Kentucky game Saturday. The bar should be awesome this weekend.
Starting point is 00:47:38 We'll start getting, we'll be here before Big Blue Madness. We're also going to be here after Big Blue Madness. I'm considering doing, well, I won't say that. We might do something live here at the bar after Big Blue Man is just on video or something. We'll see. I don't know if that's going to happen. Then Saturday, games at 745. Our pregame show will start at 3.30 that day here.
Starting point is 00:47:59 as well. So it should be a massive weekend. Also, our remote is at Kentucky branded Friday where we give away, I assume we'll be giving away Big Blue Madness tickets. We do that almost every year. It's usually one of our best of the year. Huge sales. If you want UK gear, this is your time to come because the sales during that event Friday at behind Fayette Mall will be the best. Now, I'm going to do the ad so we can then get to these callers. Starting point is 00:48:43 for your customers, k or for your employees, kYchamber.com slash child care. KYchamber.com slash child care. All right, we got six people here. Shannon, 15 seconds, you buzz them. In honor and Petino, you make your point. Yay or nay on him, quick as possible. Here we go. DJ. DJ, go. All right, I'm going to say pro-petino.
Starting point is 00:49:08 He won the championship at 96. He led Kentucky to three final fours. One, 219 games, and I'm going to be at the big blue madness. If he's there, I'm pro-petino. Pro-Patino. That's one. There's one. Marsha won't put his negative.
Starting point is 00:49:23 Since she went yet, all right, who's next? Cody. Cody. What's up, fellas? I'm a pro-Patino. I think a lot of Petino's was jealousy. It's hate and love at the same time. He hated Cal, but he still loved us.
Starting point is 00:49:37 I think, you know, we're going to see a lot of the Warriors' offense with Pope's offense, and we've been wanting that here. All right, two for pro. Two. Says he doesn't hate Kentucky, hated Cal. Do you agree with that? There may be a little truth to that. That might be a little bit of truth to that.
Starting point is 00:49:53 What's next? David. David. Pro or con? I am pro. Rick's, are you there? Yes. Hello.
Starting point is 00:50:03 Rick brought us back from the ashes. We won us a title, handed it'll be a team to win a second title, and destroyed our rival. See, that's a good part, Drew. You always say that, too. He also crushed Louisville in the process.
Starting point is 00:50:16 They've never been the same since the day he left. Listen, if he came back and say, did you all see what I did to Louisville, I'm giving a standing ovation. Yes, pro, 3-1. Next. Jason. Jason, pro or con?
Starting point is 00:50:29 Pro Petino for the things that he did, bringing us back from the death penalty, basically, and reviving the Kentucky program, you've got to say pro, man. Four? Yeah. Is anybody besides Marsha going to give a con? Next. Dalton. Dalton, pro or con? And they walk him out in the football stadium with Mark Pope.
Starting point is 00:50:49 There's a time I would be a wild person and say things I would regret. But for the sake of that being his coach, Mark Pope, I wouldn't boo or cheer. If you go to Purchini, you promo code Leg for 15%. I actually have news update on this. Rick just tweeted, I'll be there on the sidelines helping coach Stoops with a winky emoji from Patina. On the sidelines. He's holding coach Stoops. Oh, my goodness.
Starting point is 00:51:12 Did he really say that? Yeah. Wow. But he says he's flying in Saturday. So not. Will not be at Big Blue Madness, according to him. Wink, wink. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:51:28 Wow. So he says he's going to be on the sidelines. Helping coach Stoops. Winky face. Winky face. All right. What's next? Randy.
Starting point is 00:51:37 Has to hate that. Randy, go ahead. Con, he's the Benedict Arnold of basketball. Benedict Arnold did some great things in Revolution, but ended up being a traitor. He does some good things here, but he ended up being a traitor. He left and went where to go. Our number one rival. What's he do?
Starting point is 00:51:53 Flip us on. Wow. that's interesting. You know, Benedict Darno was a good soldier. Until he wasn't. Until he wasn't. That's an interesting. So there's our first con that's not Martian next.
Starting point is 00:52:07 That's up. That's it. We've cleared the lines. That's all six of them. Oh, okay. Well, open them back up. They're open. All right.
Starting point is 00:52:14 859-28027. Jump on here. I want to get the pro or con. So if we take him and his tweet being true, he flies in Saturday, goes to Keenland, goes to the game. I find that hard to believe he's not coming 12 hours earlier to go to madness the night before. I mean, they could have a St. John's event. I don't know their schedule.
Starting point is 00:52:33 They could be doing one of their things. Yeah, don't they have a big blue madness? The fact that he said I'm helping Coach Stoops, winky face, if you had said with all that was going on two years ago, that Rick Petino is going to tweet, I'm helping Coach Stoops from the sidewalk. That's so funny on so many levels. Because not only does it pour, you know, when Cal Lefty and Stoops weren't getting along either. That's right.
Starting point is 00:52:57 Not at all. So now they have that mutual. That's why there's several layers to this. Oh, my goodness. Rick. If they win, Jeff Rubies might be the place to be a Saturday night. Oh, he'll be there. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:10 That might be a hard reservation to get on Saturday if he'll be there. Who knows? Maybe we'll get him here. Although Marsha might never come to-Rick on the pregame. If I had Rick Bettino in this place, I'm going to tell you, I'm going to try. I mean, I'm going to give him a chance, although if he walks in here, he might punch me on Saturday afternoon. So I don't know. All right.
Starting point is 00:53:30 Go ahead. Who's up? All right. Let's go to Frank. Frank. Go for it. 859-28027. Yes or no?
Starting point is 00:53:37 Well, I want to say no, he has done a lot of good things, but the finger to the fans, to me, that was directed to the fans. Yeah. So I say he's out. You know, it's crazy. That finger to the fans, I don't think people would even know that. That was worldwide Todd Harris that took that picture. And that still to this day lingers to people. And what if Todd hadn't had his camera?
Starting point is 00:54:04 Because, like, I think that's the only picture of it. I think there's one blurry picture of it, and that's it. But that's interesting. I think that's the only record that that happened. Let's do one more. Hunter. Hunter, go ahead. Pro, and do you think that tweet was a coincidence,
Starting point is 00:54:20 or do you think he's listening to KSR right now? He's not listening. Zagoria put out that he had talked to him and said he was coming. So I don't think he's listening. But I'm going to be honest with you. If he's coming, I'm going to try to do a text. Marci-O's on his staff, right? I believe he is.
Starting point is 00:54:38 I forgot about that. Oh, we got to try to. What do you think the winky face is all about? Can you imagine? What if he walked in here? Do you think you'd get a round of applause Saturday? Most of the people probably would. They did today.
Starting point is 00:54:47 That would be fascinating. Well, wow, we'll find out. See you later. It's KSR. podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
