Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:00 And for more, follow Timbo Slica Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. What's up, guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Clivert Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
Starting point is 00:01:22 What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue 42. A rep. My mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's he at? Hey, Miss Parker.
Starting point is 00:01:38 Listen to the Clifferts show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano. It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast point game, the playoffs. We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season, and I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments.
Starting point is 00:01:55 If we didn't talk ever again, I was harmed. You just understood. That's how personal it got. Wow. Then after that game seven, Marquis coming to him, he's like, you know I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs.
Starting point is 00:02:07 This was just basketball. So listen to Point Game on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, everyone, it's Ryder Strong and Will Ferrell from PodMeets World. And now the PodMeets Twirled podcast. We're two men who were completely clueless to reality TV, and we're gearing up for the season finale of Survivor. I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners
Starting point is 00:02:28 by our severe lack of survivor knowledge. That is the point of the show. I'm just going to remind you. Again, we are experts. Listen to Podmeets Twirl on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now, here's Matt Jones. Welcome back hour number two here at Kentucky Sports Radio. Good little crowd of folks here. We were open for lunch. Let's see.
Starting point is 00:03:56 I didn't get to talk to people just walked in. Those are some bright shirts here in the front row. We got you two look like you're going to Keenland after this, am I right? What? You just kind of look like a date that's going to Keenland or something when this is over. So 859-28027. We're going to give back the phones. Let's go over a couple little news bits.
Starting point is 00:04:18 First of all, Tom Haberstro, who's an NBA analyst. He used to work for Yahoo. I don't. I think he works for ESPN. now. Tom, his wife is from Kentucky, actually. I've met him over the years. His wife's from Kentucky. He said in an interview a couple days ago, the NBA has not seen somebody who shoots like Reed Shepard since Steph Curry. He said he's not Steph, but he's the closest thing we've seen since Steph. That's my praise. We talked about how Reed was underappreciated coming into college.
Starting point is 00:04:54 Now he's Steph. I mean, Drew, talk about putting pressure on the guy. I saw that quote. I closed the app and went to Draft Kings and bet him to win rookie of the year. I wish I'd done a little earlier in the summer. I guess I didn't believe enough until seeing that quote.
Starting point is 00:05:09 But between that, and did you see the clip of practice the Rockets put out where Reid hits a shot, gets a steal for a dunk, and then blocks a shot? Last night, he played 20 minutes. He played 20 minutes in the preseason game last night. He had 13 points. five of seven from the field and three steals. I mean, the kid keeps amazing me.
Starting point is 00:05:32 Look, he's not going to dominate the NBA in his first year, but he's going to be good, and he's going to play, and it's amazing, Ryan, to see. Listen, that may end up being a really stupid quote one day, but just even him being good enough that that could be something someone would say is unbelievable. It just, I love it. We all love it. You know, two seasons ago, he's in the 13th region playing against Corbyn.
Starting point is 00:05:58 Now he's going to be playing against the Celtics and the Lakers and succeeding. He played a road game at Red Bird. And this year he's going to play a road game at the Lakers. I'm serious. Two years ago, he was playing at Red Bird High School. He went to Oneida Baptist for a road game. And now he's going to be playing for the Lakers against the Lakers and the NICs. Like, that is so awesome.
Starting point is 00:06:22 Yeah, I mean, we called one of his games. Now it's going to be, you know, Kevin Harlan and Mike Brin. Yeah, it was, I mean, he had Ryan on his tell. The big coal trucks were behind the goal. It's just, it's, you just got to say, like, that is so cool. And then, like, he's going to be good. Oh, yes. I mean, they also rank, they ask GMs, who do you think is most likely to be
Starting point is 00:06:44 rookie of the year? Reed was first, Zach Edie, second, Stefan Castle, third. And you know who's fourth? Rob Dillingham. So now according to NBA GMs, two of the four most likely people to win rookie of the year came off our bitch. Ouch. Get ready for that to be a talking point the entire NBA season, by the way. Kentucky's going to get mocked when those two are.
Starting point is 00:07:10 Came off our bitch. And by the way, Antonio Reeves is going to make the regular roster. Antonio Reeves is not, I don't think he's even going to start in the G League. I think he is going to be on the roster on opening night. So you're going to have three guys who are going to be on the roster on opening night. Ha! And the thing about, you know, he's so humble. I don't know that I'll ever get over that.
Starting point is 00:07:35 I know. I mean, like, I don't know that I'll ever get over that. I think that's, I think last season is one of the biggest fails we've ever had at this school. It helps that not just they're so good. They're like all-time fan favorites. I mean, Reed is going to be number one on several people's lists for eternity. Rob probably not too far behind on a lot of lists. Look, like, think, the John Waldemarcus cousins team underachieved in the tournament,
Starting point is 00:08:05 but gave us an amazing year where, yeah, they lost that game, but I'll always think fondly of that group because it was such an awesome year, and you know what, they lost a game. They got cold. But last year's team had three of the six. six best shooters at this school of all time. And every person in this bar would have said, hmm, three people are on the team that are three of the greatest shooters of all time.
Starting point is 00:08:37 I have a national player of the year contender. I have two of the top four contenders for rookie of the year. Here's an idea. Let's play them together. Nope. Nope. Well, you know, like they don't sit after Alabama game, Cal found his lineup.
Starting point is 00:08:55 And he plays him together one game, Ryan, and we beat a final 14 by 25 points. And then he didn't do it again. Didn't do it again. That was wild when Nate Oates. I was sitting right in front of him. He's like, oh, man, I helped Cal out tonight. I gave him his lineup.
Starting point is 00:09:10 Yep. And never did it again. All right. I'm going to get over it, Shannon. Let's all hug. Big Blue Madness. I'm getting this out of my sense. Big Blue Madness is tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:09:19 New year, new coach. But when I saw that about Reaching, Shepherd. I just had to get that out of my system again. Because that kid is going to be rookie of the year. And he is going to make the state of Kentucky so proud. And we lost Oakland. All right. Enough of that. But you single-handedly did it. Certainly with me. NCA got rid of the national letter of intent. It's gone. This is how college basketball has operated for 40 or 50 years. I literally taught it in my class. last week.
Starting point is 00:09:55 I taught about the National Letter of Intent and how I actually think it's maybe an illegal contract because you're basically one side. The school is not even really giving consideration, but nevertheless, it's now gone. Players don't have to sign it, which means basically when someone signs with a school, they're actually not even signing anything anymore. Charlie Baker, the NCAA president, says he wants to replace it within a couple of years with a contract that would basically require school. Once they get this revenue sharing done, school will pay you X, you will play at school. That is, in my opinion, going to be a massive positive step for college sports and college basketball.
Starting point is 00:10:45 But there's going to be this two-year transition period where that doesn't exist. and a guy could sign and just not come, and there's really nothing any school can do about it. But this National Letter of Intent, which for 50 years was kind of the basis of college athletics, Ryan is now gone. So they just signed some sort of financial? Right now they're not probably going to sign anything.
Starting point is 00:11:10 Okay. Until the House settlement gets done, the judge, for people that don't know, we've talked about that settlement. The judge did not approve the first draft of the, the settlement, they went back to the negotiating table, and they have now approved the second draft of it. So it is now approved. So basically, here's where we are. The schools and the players have agreed on a set of principals to govern college football and basketball. It's $22 million
Starting point is 00:11:40 a year to be shared amongst players of all these different sports. Now, how that gets shared is not determined yet. I think each school gets to decide it themselves. Players have agreed to join the NCAA in lobbying to Congress, to have Congress pass a law that basically makes the settlement federal law. Do you follow me? The settlement, because right now the worry is if you took that, if someone challenged that settlement, a judge might overturn the settlement. As part of the settlement, though, the players have agreed,
Starting point is 00:12:17 we'll go with you to Congress, and we will say we want this to be the law too. I think that's very important because I think what that means is, in general, this is a huge, it's a huge, what's the word I'm looking for? It's a huge simplification. But in general, the Republicans in Congress tend to want to do what the colleges want them to do. The Democrats want to do what the athletes' players want to do in general. Now, there are exceptions to that, but in general.
Starting point is 00:12:48 The thought is if the two groups go together, they will get a bipartisan bill that then will be signed. I think that's probably true. So I think there's a better chance today, Drew, to end up with rules that will be set, that will organize college sports going forward than there was a week ago. Yeah, and it's glad we're finally cleaning up the mess that it's been that really capped off a few weeks ago when the guy quit on his team. We're finally going to get some structure around this. the letter of intent thing, the portal really hit that anyway, they've kind of been silly to begin with.
Starting point is 00:13:23 This just officially throws it out the window now, and we'll get these contracts that the players actually need moving forward. So, you know, for those of you, I actually think our worry about the Wild Wild West has actually proven to not be as big a worry as we thought it was going to be. I actually think the sports have been pretty awesome, to be quite frank with you. But I think we are now, Ryan,
Starting point is 00:13:47 headed towards having rules that will organize this to where it becomes something. For instance, Congress, when they pass the rule, then the NCAA will be able to enforce it, which right now they can't even enforce anything. They'll be able to after that. So if they go to this contract, it will be a standardized contract that all schools have to use the same one? I think part of the agreement is Congress will pass a law that says this is the contract you signed. All right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:11 So it's very complicated, but the reason this court strike all this stuff down, is because it violates other laws. The NCAA's goal is to get Congress to say this is the law that governs sports and then the courts won't strike it down. Does that make sense? Yeah. That's kind of where all of this is. Who's next?
Starting point is 00:14:32 Let's go to Floyd. Floyd, how are you Floyd? I'm doing well. How are you? Good. I think I've come up with a solution on how to welcome Rick in Crowderfield. Okay, what is it? Do not boo Rick and Kroger.
Starting point is 00:14:48 Don't do it. Fly that little bird he left in Reparina. Fly it right back at him. Okay, so I won't. Hearing that call, I wouldn't put you on the pro-Rick side. Is that right? I mean, if you want us to fly the bird. You know how you've mentioned several times your friends with your exes?
Starting point is 00:15:07 Yes. Yeah, I'm not. There are people like him. So let me ask you a question. What is for you the unforgivable thing that Rick did? Like, what is it that makes it to where you can't forgive it? He coached at Louisville. So it's just the fact that he coached at Louisville alone?
Starting point is 00:15:28 Yeah. Yeah, I backed him when he was at the Celtics. I even bought a green jacket. It was... Do you... Did you feel the same way about, say, Denny Krum? Yeah. No.
Starting point is 00:15:46 So it's the fact... So it's not like you just hate him because he coached at Louisville. You hate him because he went from here to Louisville. That's the unforgivable sin to you. Yeah. Yeah, he coached the Louisville period after. And then he did all the trash talking about Kentucky. And like the guy I said yesterday, he's shown no contrition.
Starting point is 00:16:12 Yeah, no contrition whatsoever. Do you feel the same way about Cal because he went to Arkansas? Oh, I don't even know how I feel about that sucker yet. All right. Well, there you go. I appreciate the call. And I did get to meet Cal right before he left about a year, I would say, and nicest guy ever. Well, most of these guys, I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:16:36 Most of them are very nice when you meet them. That's interesting, though. He basically says Rick did the unforgivable sin. There are people like that guy and like Marshall who feel that sense. of betrayal. Patino betrayed us. He left us to go to our rival. It wasn't just like your wife cheated. She cheated with your worst enemy. Yes. Yes, that's a good way to put it. Jane Lyndon said he couldn't call in, but texted that too. He feels the same way. Okay. Interesting. Stop overpaying for sunglasses. If you're tired of paying expensive sunglasses,
Starting point is 00:17:08 shady rays, independent American-owned company. Tangle-free aviators. They won't get stuck in your hair, Ryan. Color rush lenses that provide ultimate color. enhanced visibility. Go grab a pair of Shady Rays. There's one in Lexington, one in Louisville, or online at ShadyRays.com. And now they got the new U.K. Shady Rays. The blue and white ones we all got.
Starting point is 00:17:28 The new U.K. ones are very popular. We'll take a break. Barry Backs. KS.R. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending. Opinions are flying. And nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
Starting point is 00:17:43 That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode we're cutting through the noise. down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context and ask the questions everybody wants answered. Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories
Starting point is 00:18:14 told by the people who live them. Listen to Sports Slice. On the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slicleaf 12 and the TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:18:49 I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get to fly. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball.
Starting point is 00:19:14 Like, you go through a training camp? with that Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Ah, yeah. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, everyone, it's Ryder Strong and Will Ferdell from PodMeets World. And now the PodMeets Twirled podcast. We're two men who were completely clueless to reality TV, who now have covered
Starting point is 00:19:43 Dancing with the Stars, traitors, and we're gearing up for the season finale of Survivor. So, yeah, now we're experts. I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners by our severe lack of survivor knowledge. That is the point of the show. I'm just going to remind you. I have watched some survivor. I obviously haven't watched enough. Did people not like it?
Starting point is 00:20:04 Like what was just because we? Yeah. We'll be recapping the big conclusion of the 50th season from the final attempts at gameplay to the desperate pleas of finalists to a bunch of ha who. Again, we are experts. So make sure to tune in a pod meets Twitter. world for all our Survivor 50 takes. Listen to Pod Meets Tworold on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your
Starting point is 00:20:27 podcasts. What's up, guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me, he goes, A, ref, my mom wants you
Starting point is 00:20:44 to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office. Louis 42. Hey, Red. My mama want you to weigh better. What?
Starting point is 00:20:56 Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. If you're watching the latest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, you already know there's a lot to break down. Gorsha accusing Kelly of sleeping with a merry man. They holding Kay Michelle back from fighting Drew. Pinky has financial issues.
Starting point is 00:21:22 I like the problem. a bougie style of Housewives show. I think it looks like it's going to be interesting. On the podcast, Reality with the King, I, Carlos King, recap the biggest moments from your favorite reality shows, including the Real Housewives franchise, the drama, the alliances, and the team everybody's talking about. As an executive producer in reality television,
Starting point is 00:21:43 I'm not just watching it. I understand the game. As somebody who creates shows, I'll even say this. At the end of the day, when people are at home, They want entertainment. To hear this and more, listen to Reality with the King on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. That's true. This is kind of how that guy felt in that call there, don't you think?
Starting point is 00:22:10 I think that's exactly how he felt. There are people out there like that guy and Jane Lyndon and Marsha that it's going to be hard for them to ever forgive Rick Petino. Tomorrow we are at Kentucky Branded, so let me just tell you what I'm giving away tomorrow. First of all, Kentucky Branded will be like the best deals on UK merchandise you can find. I'm also giving a bunch of stuff away. So I'm giving away tomorrow tickets to Big Blue Madness. Okay. I'm giving away T.J. Smith is giving away his football tickets to the Vandy game that includes like K-club pass, like parking pass right up next to.
Starting point is 00:22:43 So big time T.J. pass. He's got a good seat. I'm going to make a finalist for the UK basketball, blue-white thing. So that's three big giveaways just at Kentucky branded tomorrow. And then you add that hopefully will be a fun job. show and it's our big blue madness show which always has some surprises who knows maybe we'll get a guest or something here so that should be very exciting it's out there next to fayette mall kentucky branded and the kentucky blood center will be there you can give blood and they usually they usually
Starting point is 00:23:11 have some special thing for people who do that during the course of the show the blood people will be there from uh from 10 to 2 i think always a big show always a fun show and they'll like you brand then they always do their own little giveaways that they'll have yeah they'll have stuff for me to giveaway as well. So that won't that won't be all of it. LeBron and Brony Shams reported today. Brony is likely to make the team
Starting point is 00:23:36 at least for the first game or two this year. Basically they want to have a game where they both play. Yes, that's it. Do it early in the year before my view of that. Look, he's not good enough to be in the NBA, but
Starting point is 00:23:53 whatever. But I do think It's a little, like, we don't like nepotism in a lot of life. But what do you think? Is it dad, or do you think the Lakers, you think he should keep? Because remember, Brian, he's taking somebody's spot, right? Do you think that's okay just because dad is really, really good? I just, as a dad, I think it's okay. You know, they let King Griffey Jr. play with King Griffey Sr.
Starting point is 00:24:16 That's not the same thing. King Griffey Jr. was great. It turned out all right. King Griffey Jr. is one of the best players of all time. It's not the same. Listen to you, it's King Griffey Jr. He was better. His dad was the one that held on.
Starting point is 00:24:32 That's it. They let dad kind of clip. It's not the young son. It's the old dad. They let him hang around so they got a chance to play together. So why can't they let Ronnie hang around just for a couple days so they can play together? I'm sure there's a lot of NBA players who would love to have their son on the team. I cannot get enough to play in the NBA.
Starting point is 00:24:48 I cannot believe you said. Because King Griffey Sr. didn't deserve to be out there. But King Griffey Sr. had at least had a long career of being a really good major league level player. You know what I mean? Like it wasn't. So they gave him that moment.
Starting point is 00:25:04 Let father's son play together. Why not let Brony and LeBrony play together? I'm all for it. What about you, Drew? I don't love it. I mean, if you're in that locker room, it's like, we're trying to get good here. Surely there's someone that could be useful in that spot. But at the same time, if I were in LeBron's shoes, I would absolutely do it.
Starting point is 00:25:23 Okay. So I admit I'm a hypocrite. I don't like it from afar, but if I were LeBron, I would do it. No, this is garbage. I love that you said he's good enough to make the team for a game or two. Like, no, if you're not good enough to make the team for the season, you're not good enough to be on the team. I don't care what your last name is.
Starting point is 00:25:39 You don't belong out there, and Brony does not belong out there with LeBron. He doesn't. Listen, it's a nice father. Here's the thing. Is it nice that Brony James gets to play, that LeBron gets to play with this kid? Sure, that's nice. but the person that doesn't make the team, they have a story too, right?
Starting point is 00:26:00 Like they have a story. Maybe no one in their family has ever made the NBA. You know, there's a story with them too. And if Bronny's good enough, he'll have his chances. But everyone knows he's not good enough. Everyone. And if I am, if I am LeBron, even for my son, he ain't going to be here forever his son's got to be in this league you know what i mean like
Starting point is 00:26:28 the best thing you can do is make someone earn it themselves right like that's the best thing you can do for your kid give them an advantage but then they have to earn it themselves and i just think this is he hasn't earned it himself here's what i want to happen maybe this makes me a bad person but you remember when uh coby ran through pal in the olympics i want someone to do do that to Brony on the first place. I know. Like, welcome to the league. Well, first of all, he's not. If the game's close, he's not going to play. I don't know. I just think we, it is a nice story, but you don't think about the person's story who didn't make the team because of this. They have a story, too.
Starting point is 00:27:15 Would it, would it be different if maybe in the G league, LeBron drops down to play in the G league with him for a couple of games? I'd be fine with that. I agree. I'd be fine with that. I would totally be fine with that. I just feel like this is different. I guess it's cool, but it's just not as cool to me because King Griffey Jr. earned it. This is a little bit different. You're saying Braun should go to Italy to play with Brony.
Starting point is 00:27:41 If LeBron took a step down to be with his son, to me I'd have a lot more respect to that. I think that would be like true, like Roger Clemens coming out here and playing with his son in Lexington. Awesome. That was really cool. Yep. Who's next? Phil. Phil.
Starting point is 00:27:57 Go ahead, Phil. Hey, guys. With the Picino thing, I just like to remember when the Louisville job was open before he took it, the Tennessee job was also open. Well, the big one was the Michigan job. The Michigan job, the reason I always kind of held a grudge a little bit on Rick about it was he could have taken the Michigan job, and I don't think Kentucky, fans would have been upset at all. And he chose the Louisville. But the thing I was worried about and horrible about it is I hate Tennessee worse than anything.
Starting point is 00:28:33 I don't like Louisville either. But I was afraid he'd be at Tennessee and mess up everything in the SEC. Yeah, as I remember correctly, I appreciate the call. People could correct me if I'm wrong. I think there was three jobs, UNLV, Michigan, and Louisville. And I think initially he was going to go to UNLN. And then the Michigan job came open and then the Louisville job came open. And my thought always was, Ryan, if he had taken the Michigan job,
Starting point is 00:29:00 I think Kentucky fans would have been like, oh, well, that's what happens. But then he took the loop. I'd always heard one of the deciding, well, two of the deciding factors was the horse industry. He was, you know, starting to buy horses and he wanted to be here close to Churchill and Keenland. And the airport out of Louisville, Joanne was able to fly back and forth to New York, you know. Well, they got flights to Michigan, too. Who's next? Bob and Jamestown.
Starting point is 00:29:21 Bob, go ahead, Bob. Um, reds are really, they want in power now. And a new coach, Tony Francona, he's gotten rid of all the hitting coaches. So he's going to try to get some, some power back in a red, big red machine. And then the Bengals, they got a tough game with the Giants. I don't know. T. Higgins is back with Burrow. This is a must-win game for him.
Starting point is 00:29:48 Yeah. Well, there you go. Appreciate the call. You just read ESPN.com headlines. There's your Cincinnati sports radio headlines. Well, the Reds should try to get power because we have the third easiest ballpark for hiters in the country and we can't hit. So, like, yes, they should go get guys who can hit. It's like playing at Coors Field and playing with a bunch of bunners.
Starting point is 00:30:10 Like, you know, go get guys who can hit. I'm for that. His name is Terry, not Tony, Francona. And the Bengals are one and four. So, yeah, it is kind of a must win for them. I think they're better, though, than they're one and four. I think they win this week. I think they'll beat the Giants this week.
Starting point is 00:30:24 I think they're better than one and four, even with their record. When we come back, we're going to play a game. If you would like to be a finalist for the blue, white game, UK basketball experience, call now. First six in, we'll get to play. It's going to play another of what does Ryan Lemon think the answer is. We will do that. That's next. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Starting point is 00:30:52 Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. I really like this song, Shannon. I haven't heard it in a long time. Is it Wade Hayes? Dirk's Bentley. Oh.
Starting point is 00:31:07 Well, what does Wade Hayes sing that's like this? Well, it's not this one. I don't know. I do like this song, though. What was a little white tank top sitting right there by me? I like when Matt Jones sings it. Yeah, especially acoustically on the podcast. Just don't talk.
Starting point is 00:31:23 Worst concert of ever By the way, someone posted a video from the Tower Children's Country Boy concert of them singing of him singing Lady May and if you see that video online you'll hear the voice of the person I was talking about that shouldn't have been
Starting point is 00:31:39 singing that was way too loud. They made it onto the video. I went back and watched it last night because after you made the big deal about yesterday I was like, I don't remember that that well but yep, dude directly between us really, very loud and the timing was off. that's the most annoying part couldn't even sing so i'm just saying wait a minute i was between you two guys
Starting point is 00:31:59 it wasn't you right right in front of us a little you can't sing either but you know when to do it and when to not all right here's here so as part of uh finding our finalist for this big blue remember the experience let me read you again what all you will get to do if you win this experience it is for the blue white game you will get to do all of these things that you will get to do all of these things, two center court lower level tickets. Pre-game team meet and greet access. You get to go to the pre-game private practice at the Joe Craft Gym. You get to do a player intro secret handshake with one of the players. That I think is the funniest one. You get club access and you get to be a fan assistant coach on the bench during one of the quarters of the game. I mean, that's, that's six things that just one of
Starting point is 00:32:53 the six is cool. One of the six would be worth it. You get them all. All right. So everything's going to be a different way to get a finalist. Shannon, you get the name and the phone number of who is the finalist. Okay. All right, here we go. We got six people. Here is the game. The game is, I am going to ask Ryan, what is the population of Mexico? Okay. What is the population of Mexico? Oh, good grief. And what you have to do is right on this sheet of paper right here what you think the population of Mexico is. We're not going to say it
Starting point is 00:33:29 out loud. You're just going to write it right here so I have it. Okay? Go ahead and write what you think the population of Mexico. The answer, of course, is for the person on the person listening, you don't have to do I don't want you to guess what
Starting point is 00:33:45 the correct population of Mexico is. I want you to guess what Ryan thinks the correct population of Mexico is. You guys can just seat yourself, okay? I love that wrinkle to the game. Really? It doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:34:00 Because anyone can look up what it is. The question is, what does Ryan think it is? Now, let's go to the phones. Who's first? Leighton. Leighton. Leighton, where do you live, Leighton? Hoptown.
Starting point is 00:34:13 How good an experience would this be if you get it right? Oh, yeah, that would be awesome. It would be awesome. So, Leighton, now that you think it would be awesome, You have, whoa, everybody. Layton from Hoptown. What is your guess? Oh, man, this is really hard.
Starting point is 00:34:34 It is hard because you can't just think what the population of Mexico is. You have to get in the brain of this man right here. He was so short on the miles the other day. All right, let's say 100 million. A hundred million. So Leighton's guesses that Ryan will say 100 million. All right, who's next? Ed.
Starting point is 00:34:53 Ed, where are you from? Well, the Big South Fork River Burnside. Big South Fork River Burnside. Now, Ed, what kind of handshake would you do with the player? I'll give the old standard 80s, you know, hook, snapper, you know, full palm then with the snap. Sounds great. I don't even know what those words mean, Shannon. I don't either.
Starting point is 00:35:17 I think they would be good. All right. So, Ed, what is your guess? Well, I don't know, man. Half of them came across the border. I don't need your political statement. I just need what is the population of Mexico that Ryan thinks it is. 175, $1.75 million is what Ed thinks Ryan says.
Starting point is 00:35:38 Okay, what's next? Matt. Matt, where are you from? I'm from here in Lexington. From Lexington. What do you think Ryan thinks the population is? I would say $300 million. $300 million.
Starting point is 00:35:52 Okay. Who's next? Everybody needs to be holding on, by the way. Go, who's next? Cody. Cody, where are you from? Lexington. Lexington.
Starting point is 00:36:00 Cody, what do you think Ryan thinks the population is? I'm going to say Ryan wrote down 15 million. 15 million. It's a great answer. There are more people than that in Mexico City, much less the rest of the country. Okay, all right, so there you go. You think Ryan said 15 million.
Starting point is 00:36:24 Who's next? Eric. Eric. What do you think, Ryan? I'm going to go with $130 million. $130 million. All right. And finally, Bucky.
Starting point is 00:36:37 Bucky, where are you from? Jamestown. Bucky from James Town. By the way, Bucky, do you know Bob? I do. What's he like in real life? What you see is what you get. What you see is what you get.
Starting point is 00:36:50 Have you ever seen Bucky what Bob has on his porch on his lake house? No, no. and I have tried and tried and tried, but from what you all say, I don't think. You don't want to see it. It's only can be seen from the lake as I understand it. You know what? That's good. Just don't even, don't even try.
Starting point is 00:37:06 All right, Bucky, what's your guess? Okay. I'm going to say Ryan said $250 million. $250 million. All right, first of all, there's our guesses. We have $100, $175, $330, $2.30. The actual answer. True, do you know what the actual answer is?
Starting point is 00:37:24 I looked it up. Absolutely, I do. I wouldn't have before the game. The actual answer is Mexico's population is 127.5. 127.5. So if the game was who got it right, Eric guessed 130. Eric, the worst mistake you made was guessing the actual answer. Because the goal is not to guess the actual answer. The goal was to guess what Ryan would get.
Starting point is 00:37:53 Yes. Shannon, what do you think Ryan guessed? 400 million. 400 million. What do you think? I have, in that brain, I think I'm looking at 75 million. Well, Shannon is closer. Yep.
Starting point is 00:38:10 Ryan guessed 350 million people. Ryan guessed that there were more people in Mexico than in the United States. He goes to Mexico. go a lot. You got to remember. It's always very quiet. You look around and go look at all these people. Well, he, when the cruise ships drop people off, there's just people everywhere. There's so many people everywhere. He's thinking about the weight at senior frog. Yes, that's why he thinks there's a lot of people. He's like every time I go to Los Peranza. It's very crowded. It's always crowded. No, it's 300 ride gets 350, which means our winner is Matt, who gets the highest number 300 million.
Starting point is 00:38:58 Matt, congratulations. Thank you so much. And Matt, where do you live? I live in Lexington. All right, so Matt, you're going to hold on and give your number to Shannon, but I want to ask you now, you're a finalist. You haven't won yet. There's still going to be other things to do.
Starting point is 00:39:13 But if you were to win, who would you take with you? I would take my wife, Danielle, for sure. You take your wife, Daniel. How old are you, Matt? I'm 40. You're 40. So you and your wife, Danielle, would go. Would you let you or your wife do the handshake with the player?
Starting point is 00:39:34 Oh, goodness gracious. Probably I would do the handshake. She's a huge UK basketball fan, but not as much as me. So you're going to do the handshake? So do you have a secret handshake that's kind of your thing? Definitely not. No. Well, you might have to work on that if you will.
Starting point is 00:39:55 I have to work on it. All right, Matt, you are our first finalist. Yay. Congratulations. And we will let you, we'll see if you're able to pull out the victory. So Matt and Lexington is our first finalist. And Shannon will get his. Yeah, hang on, Matt.
Starting point is 00:40:08 Congratulations to that, Matt. And a compliment to you, Matt. That was a fun game. I really enjoyed that. I love the guesses. The range of guesses says a lot about what people think of Ryan's. And the one guy was right. I was so low, too low for the last time we played this game.
Starting point is 00:40:21 I thought I'm not going this low. I'm going to go at least over. Yes. Well, you did. You did go way over. When the relief valve on your water heater fails, pouring gallons of water in your basement, what are you going to do? Well, serve pro. Unfortunately, we don't want disaster to strike.
Starting point is 00:40:37 But if you do, you need to have the equipment and expertise to clean up the damage and make it like it never even happens. Surf Pro will come to your house, fix it, be in and out, and you will be able to go on with your life. Call Surf Pro. 1-800-S-E-R-V-P-R-O. 1-800 serve pro or online at servepro.com. We will take a break and be right back. Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game.
Starting point is 00:41:00 This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise. Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines.
Starting point is 00:41:15 We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:41:44 And for more, follow Timbo Slic Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toll. Dono in our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
Starting point is 00:42:03 His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall.
Starting point is 00:42:23 And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get to fly. He running the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get.
Starting point is 00:42:51 get your podcasts. Hey everyone, it's Ryder Strong and Willfordell from PodMeets World. And now the Pod Meets Twirled podcast. We're two men who were completely clueless to reality TV, who now have covered Dancing with the Stars, traitors, and we're gearing up for the season finale of Survivor. So yeah, now we're experts. I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners by our severe lack of survivor knowledge. That is the point of the show.
Starting point is 00:43:21 I'm just going to remind you. I have watched some Survivor. I obviously haven't watched enough. Did people not like it? Like what was... Yeah. Just because we... Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:30 We'll be recapping the big conclusion in the 50th season from the final attempts at gameplay to the desperate pleas of finalists to a bunch of... Ha, hoo. Ha, ha, ooh. Again, we are experts.
Starting point is 00:43:42 So make sure to tune into Pod Meets Twirled for all our Survivor 50 takes. Listen to PodMeets Twirl on the IHeard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the Fourth. And on my podcast,
Starting point is 00:43:55 The Clivert Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, ref, my mama want you to wave at her.
Starting point is 00:44:17 What? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Cliverts show on the I Heart Radio. app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, I'm Jared Adano. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet. Help! Somebody!
Starting point is 00:44:38 Please! But there's so much more to me than that. I'm an actor. I'm a comedian. And recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike!
Starting point is 00:44:56 I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified. to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff, rant, and recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man.
Starting point is 00:45:07 If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary. Oh, cream of chicken suit. Hey, cream. Cream a chicken suit. This is Help from a Hypocrite,
Starting point is 00:45:20 the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hypocrat as part of the Mike Cultura podcast network available on the I-Hart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. In Mexico. That's right.
Starting point is 00:45:36 Sitting here talking about Mexico. You and I've actually never been to one of the beach resorts. I've been to Mexico a number of times, worked in San Luis, a little town outside of San Luis Potice. I had an orphanage a couple times, and I went to Mexico. Two years? I did it two summers. Yeah. One time we flew and one time we drove.
Starting point is 00:45:59 Oh, my. Drove all the way. That's, again, that's the love, I went, I drove all the way from, we drove from Lexington, Kentucky to San Luis, Potocene, Mexico. Goodness. Which is down, almost halfway down, like you're getting close to Guatemala. That was a long drive. And I was like, I was in high school. Remember we got pulled over by the Mexican cops that scared me because it was the middle of the night.
Starting point is 00:46:25 And they came out and they got those big ass like, Michelle. machine gun things. It was a little scary. Were you guys in a van like a church fan or something? We were in a van. Yeah, we were in a church van. And then we took, you know, Mexico has like classes of buses. They have like first class bus, which would be like a bus in America.
Starting point is 00:46:46 Then they have a second class bus, which is like kind of a Mexican bus. And then they have a third glass bus where people can like bring chickens and like, I'm not kidding. They can bring like chickens and farm animals on like you can bring anything on. So we did a bus ride. We took second class most of the way, but for the final 30 minutes, we had to get on a third class bus. And there was people on there with chickens. And I was like, this is wild, you know. But I'm glad I'm glad I did that stuff because it's like I feel like that's how you get to know a place, you know.
Starting point is 00:47:18 Yeah, you experience life the way they, that's normal everyday life for them. You got to see it firsthand. It is kind of a cool experience. But it was, yeah. I mean, it would be interesting for me to see if where I went, this was 20. plus years ago where whether or not you could still go because you know back then the cartels existed but it wasn't like it is now so it wasn't it was it wasn't quite as as you know there are parts of mexico they just tell you do not go to these parts yeah and i don't think san luis potese
Starting point is 00:47:48 is one of those parts but it's close i think i don't know if you'd want to drive it try to drive i don't think i would drive now yeah i don't think i because yeah i mean there First of all, people think of Mexico is just dangerous except the beach town. Mexico City, I was there, and I felt safer than in most cities in America. Like, I felt completely safe in Mexico City. But, yeah, some of the rural parts, I'd be much, it's like, you know how people are much more scared in America of the cities than the rural parts. I actually think in Mexico, I'd be more scared of the rural parts than the city. Same.
Starting point is 00:48:26 For the most part. Who's up next? Let's go to Mike. Mike, go ahead, Mike. Hey, guys, just try to get into this contest. What's going on? Well, the contest is over. I mean, you heard we just picked a winner in the last segment.
Starting point is 00:48:41 I didn't hear it. Apparently so. Apparently, other people didn't because other people were calling in trying to get into the contest. All right, well, I appreciate the call. So here's the thing. If you're on the phone, not for the contest and you want to talk to us, we would love to take your call. But the contest is now over for today. we will have other days of contest ago.
Starting point is 00:49:01 This is a multi-day event. Got to get back in tomorrow. Yeah. All right. UK Vandy. How many points do we have to score to ensure we win? You've heard my confidence in the defense. I'll say Kentucky holds them under 21.
Starting point is 00:49:18 Oh, I think we can do a lot better than that. I think if we score 21, we win. Think 21? That's my number. 21 and up. Okay. I think we will. I think we will hold them 10 to 14.
Starting point is 00:49:33 And I assume we'll score more than that. But I think, I mean, I'm expecting this game to be like 20 to 10. I don't know what the over-under is, but give me the under. I think this is going to be, I don't think it's going to be a high-scoring game. Yeah, you know, this defense held Georgia to 13, held Ole Miss to, what, 40 points below their average. I mean, the defense is going to do their job. Like I said earlier, we just got to find a way to get in the end zone. Two touchdowns and three SEC games.
Starting point is 00:50:02 You've got to do better than that. Do you, you know, are you worried about the bi-week thing? Because by-week stoops coming off by-week has been bad over the years. He really has. It's like been surprisingly but poor over the years. Yeah, especially like against the spread of gambling, he's like 0-8 or something. I don't think he's ever. Yeah, he's never.
Starting point is 00:50:22 It's not good. Andy Reid, I think, has covered every game after. the spread or after the by week like the last 10 years and I think we haven't covered one yeah I mean they're all probably their own circumstances you do have that concern when the record is that bad going back but I just feel like you said earlier giving Brad white two weeks to get ready for what is a surprisingly hot team in college football right now I feel pretty good about that side of the ball I have some long-term offense concerns I mean that was great getting that win and that throw to Baron was awesome but I still need to see more out of that side if they're going to do anything really special moving forward you know i was thinking if we had lost to old miss what i was going to say on the post game show is i actually thought our offense performed pretty well against old miss we just have to score in the red zone we get to the red zone and we can't we actually moved the ball both against georgia and against old miss we actually moved the ball pretty well we just get bogged down in the red zone and we really
Starting point is 00:51:24 struggle to get a touchdown i mean it's georgia we had four four field goals. You make one of those a touchdown. You win the game. You know, I mean, we just, we struggle in the red zone. Yeah, well, Alex Rainer, man. We're not, we're not score many points this year. He supplied most of our points off his leg. So for Kentucky football, like I said, their defense, they've had two weeks to prepare on this dog opavia, the guy, the option, you know, the little things that Alabama had trouble stopping if he had two weeks prepare. If they can't be ready coming off a buy week for this time, then something's wrong. Who's next year? Drew.
Starting point is 00:51:56 Drew, go ahead, Drew. Matt, I'm with you as far as the concert goes about people singing, but let me tell you what happened. My oldest son, he used to make the off-state choir a lot. It's pretty prestigious. Well, the parents have to go on chaperone certain events. You're listening to them practice. Yes.
Starting point is 00:52:14 Those songs were in my, yeah, the songs are in my head, you know, all week. And then you pay money for a ticket, and it's expensive to go. You've got to pay the hotel. No, the parents don't sing, do they? Well, let me tell you what happened. So it's in my ears, in my head, and I'm gently, gently humming. I promise it was just gently humming. The only guy that was close, yeah, listen, the guy that was close enough to me to hear,
Starting point is 00:52:38 he leans over, and he says, let's leave the singing to the kids to actually. Oh, that's a strong thing to say to you. Did you, were you embarrassed or were you angry? A nicer man than I would have shut up, but when he talked to me like that, I acted like I'd been preparing for that African spiritual my entire life. So I started, so my humming turned into the words, which, you know, we're a foreign language, but, you know, I'd heard it all week. So, yeah, I made sure that guy left not being able to hear his little fun.
Starting point is 00:53:10 I mean, you seem like a good fellow, but I think I appreciate the call. I think I would certainly have been the one telling you to stop humming. Yeah, I mean, listen, I'm not trying to not be fun. I appreciate the call. It's just. Like you said, that was probably the one. One song you wanted to hear Tyler sing maybe the most out of all of them. Well, okay, so I had, I watched some of my videos last night.
Starting point is 00:53:31 Like some of the other stuff he sings, like when he sings, I was out of my mind the first time we met of Searing Lonely and Blue, that one. When he sings that, there are parts where people are supposed to scream. Fine with that. Yeah. But when you're singing, follow you to Virgie, I don't need your take. on it. Shouldn't hear you over the act.
Starting point is 00:53:59 I just, I don't need that. What I do need, though, is cornbread hemp. You do. Because when a concert like that's over, how are you going to get relaxed to go to sleep? Take a little cornbread hemp. Mario's probably able to fall asleep. One and a half beer Mario was good after it was over. But cornbreadthemp.com for someone like me that's not really drinker,
Starting point is 00:54:17 it helps you rest and relax and get your disease. 30% off if you use a promo code KSR, check it out. is cornbread hemp.com, a great Kentucky company. Thank you all very much who came out. We got a great crowd here today for the show. So tomorrow, let's go over. Kentucky Brandon, tomorrow. Mark Pope's National Championship game playing all day,
Starting point is 00:54:39 Big Blue Madness Friday, UK Vandy Saturday. If that's not a good weekend in Lexington, I don't know what it is. We'll see you later. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
Starting point is 00:55:00 This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Starting point is 00:56:19 What? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to The Clippers show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
