Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue 42.
A rep.
My mama want you to wave at her.
What?

Welcome everyone to Kentucky Sports Radio Friday, August the 11th.
I am Matt Jones here live at Kentucky Branded out next to Fayette Mall on Nicholasville Road,
an absolutely packed house.
Ryan Lemon, this might be the moment.
people we've had for one of these shows out here. What do you think? If it's not, it's right next to us.
It's got to be close. We said, I think, the same thing last year. The crowds get bigger and bigger
every time we come out here at Kentucky. It really is. If you're out in town, come out.
Let me just give you everything we have here. By the way, Clark's Puppet Shop, phone line 859-280-2287.
A-Vision Autoglass Text Machine, 772-745-254. In this edition, sponsor, but T-J Smith-Lavis.
It's called T-J. I'll make them pay. All right, so we're here.
Buy one free t-shirts and sweatshirts in here tonight.
Today, that's pretty good.
20% off your purchase.
If you're here, if you give blood, that goes up to 25%.
And you should give blood, because the Kentucky blood sitters out there.
And, you know, you can give blood while you're here.
You always do that.
Always do it.
It's a good kind of make you feel good.
You're helping somebody else.
Apparently, I lost so much of it last week.
They told me not to give blood for a month.
I guess they got to catch it all back up.
Yours is on your porch.
Yes.
They're welcome to come to my kitchen, and I've cleaned it up, but there was a lot.
Also, is the sale online to Kentucky Brandon?
Yes.
So Kentuckybrandin.com.
We heard of baking.
Random.
I'm not sure that person works here, but if you go to Fight Cancer T-shirts are back there.
But if I don't know, let's assume that person worked here.
And you go to Kentuckybrandt.com.
And today is also the launch of Travis Perry merchandise.
So I don't know where that is, but Travis Perry merchandise is in here as well.
So a big day.
And of course, today is the start of the Mark Pope era at the University of Kentucky,
which is what everybody is celebrating.
There's an excitement, I think, around the city.
You know, I got a call from my co-owner at the restaurant last night,
and he goes, and he gave me the amount of money, and he goes,
Why did we do this amount of money today?
And I went, you know what?
I think people are ready for the weekend.
I think they're ready for Big Blue Madness and all that's going on.
You know, we're going to play the Mark Pope National Championship game in 96
from the moment this show ends all the way until Big Blue Madness starts.
But also, I don't know, man.
People I feel like are just excited.
How many of you are going tonight?
See, that's a big amount of people going tonight.
Wow.
I think you're going to have.
Drew, a full house at Big Blue Madness, which has not happened in a long time.
I mean, you've probably got to go to a couple years before COVID before you've had a full house.
I think you're going to have that tonight.
Yeah, you can already feel the excitement around here.
Even yesterday afternoon, just around downtown, people checking into hotels early, restaurants, bars last night.
Hell, this place this morning is crazy.
It's, I mean, it's a Vandy weekend.
That's nuts.
But it's just really, there's so much buzz with Keenland, Big Blue Madness, everything going on.
I don't remember an excitement like this around Lexington in a long time.
And I mean, part of it, Ryan, you know, I think you can't be a Kentucky fan without thinking about history.
Of all people, I thought Pat 40 actually wrote it well.
If you, Pat 40 for all of my negativity about him over the years, he's been in the bluegrass for 30 years covering sports.
So he does know this place.
And I do think you ought to find, I tweeted out his article.
Read his article about Mark Pope because I do think he hits it, hits the nail on the head.
Because this is a place where, as he put it, it's not just about the name of the jersey that they go to next.
There are people here who are buried in the jersey they wore when they were here, right?
I mean, that exists.
And today is the start of, well, how many coaches has this school had in its history?
I mean, this school has only had, by my count, seven coaches in its history.
Mark Pope is going to be the eighth.
You know, you're going back 75 years.
And this is the eighth one to ever walk through the door.
Today is an historic day if you're a Kentucky basketball fan.
Yeah, not just the eighth one, but one of our own.
It is eight.
It should probably be seven, but Billy's in there.
We can't act like he's not.
But go ahead.
So he's number eight, but he's one of us.
You know, he wore that jersey.
He knows what's like to wear that jersey.
And you're right, it's almost a perfect Lexington weekend.
You get the debut of Mark Pope, Madness on Friday.
You get Kentucky coming off a huge football win on Saturday.
Keenland, the weather's supposed to be awesome.
It is a perfect weekend.
That's why there's such a big crowd here.
But I want to talk about Pope.
So for Mark Pope, I want you to think about if you're Mark Pope,
what tonight will be like for him.
I mean, this is a guy who, you know, from around here,
but not initially good enough to get an offer to come to Kentucky, right?
It has to go all the way across the country and go to Washington
and finds a way to end up back in Kentucky.
He is part of the.
rebuild and then arguably the greatest team to ever play Kentucky basketball.
He leaves, probably doesn't think he's going to have a pro career,
and ends up having a multiple year pro career.
He goes to medical school, and you think, well, he's going to be a doctor,
and he'll be one of those people that about once every 10 years will show up in a reunion.
Everybody goes, hey, that's Mark Pope, remember, quits to go walk on as a coach at Georgia.
The 40 story talks about that Mark Fox was the,
coach and Pope walked in and said, I want to be a volunteer coach.
And Fox said, get out of here.
You don't want to do this.
You're in medical school.
You have a wife.
Go be with her.
And he goes, I want to be here.
He said, all right, we have a tailgate for recruits tomorrow.
Come to it.
And instead of just come and Mark Pope caters the thing.
And they get there and brings all this food.
And they were like, and that's when I knew he was special.
So now he goes and works at other schools, goes to Utah,
Valley State, you know, goes to BYU, gets this job.
Not only does he get this job, that guy who gave him the initial job comes on as his assistant
coach with Mark Pope.
So now Mark Fox is his assistant coach.
Rick Petino, the coach he had here, flies in for his first weekend while he has another
program to coach.
think about Drew what that has to be for that guy tonight at Big Blue Madness
and from what we've heard from Pope we're going to feel his emotions
I assume he's going to do kind of what Cal did and give a pretty lengthy speech
sometimes those could kind of get a little boring in the program
but tonight I'm excited to hear what Mark Pope has to say
because we're going to be able to feel his appreciation for that moment tonight
and everything that's been going on around him since he got here in April
and Shannon I think this is kind of what 40 says in his art
And this is not to disparage all the many good times we had over the last 14 years,
because it was awesome for the vast majority of it.
But there is a sense, I think, for a lot of fans,
that the shirts all of you have on and that I have on.
This is the one I was biting at Ole Miss in that picture.
This is bigger than a person.
And for a lot of fans, there's a sense of the program comes back to,
them in a way. It was not bad, but it wasn't like ours. And now it's ours. Now, will we win? I don't know. But on the
first day, anything's possible. And there is just, I'm really excited for what begins tonight.
There is now a sense of this is your team, not just my team, as the head coach coming from Mark Pope,
that we didn't have with Calipari, I felt like. I mean, we had all the five-star players. That was all good when we
one, but now it's like he's put the power back to the fans, which is just really refreshing.
I mean, I remember Mark Pope playing.
I never dreamed that that guy would be one day the head coach at Kentucky, but now that
he is, I don't think there's another coach that we could have gotten to get the fan base
as excited as they are right now in this moment.
I told you an example about when I met with him and the things he said to me, etc.
Let me give you another example.
Tyler Thompson, who is the editor for KSR, she got to meet with Pope and his wife this week.
and she was telling me that she wanted to get to the interview,
but he spent the first 30 minutes asking her about her.
Oh, you grew up a Kentucky fan.
What teams do you remember?
Where did you live?
And she was like, I only get 45 minutes with you,
and they were spending the whole time talking about her.
Because Mark was like, I knew Oscar Combs and Rob Bromley and Ryan Lemon when I was here.
I want to know all those people now, and I want to know their name.
I'll just tell you, that's refreshing and different.
But it's also, I think, symbolic, Ryan, of how if he were here and we interviewed him,
he would be sitting there and walking and talking to every one of you during the thing.
And I just think that's very cool.
It's nice to see somebody be as excited about this as he is.
He's obviously not just a great coach.
He is a great person.
You're right.
We've seen those stories where the day they drove him to Rupp Arena.
He got out of the car to meet the people that were standing out in the heat on the sidewalk.
I mean, what other coach does that?
I mean, it shows you what kind of person he is in addition to being such a great coach.
And in the 40 story, there was a fact, and maybe this came out maybe while I was gone this summer.
I don't know.
I had not read this.
But I guess, okay, remember, on that Thursday night it gets announced, and there is a lot of negativity,
including a little bit from me, just like, are we really doing this?
And the article says that Mitch Barnhart woke up at 6 a.m.
and called Mark Pope, where in Utah, it was 4 a.m.
And woke him up, and apparently, according to the 40 article, said, Mark, I'm pissed.
Mark was like, you know, it's 4 in the morning here.
Me too.
Yeah, holiday.
And he goes, and listen, think about the guts of Mitch to do this.
Mitch goes, we're going to have the press conference announcing you in Rupp Arena.
And the article says, Pope looks at it.
even goes, what if nobody's there?
And he goes, we're going to, and this is stubborn Mitch, but you know what?
He ended up being right.
He goes, they're going to come, we're making it happen.
And then, so that's 6 a.m., I think I ended up talking to them at like 8.30 a.m.
They scheduled the press conference.
It was announced on our show.
And then that Sunday is really one of the special moments of being a Kentucky fan,
Drew, in terms of what this fan base is, again, as 40 said, I can't believe I'm quoting
this guy so much, the fan base flex on Sunday.
And it's amazing that, like, it was devised because Mitch was mad and couldn't sleep
in the middle of the night.
And there's so much magic in that Sunday that it has used to do a whole segment complimenting
Pat 40.
I mean, it's been a reset button on everything.
It's a Mitch's credit, not just.
I mean, think about that.
We might be doing a segment complimenting Pat 40 and having Rick Patino tomorrow.
Like that one, too, can you imagine if you could get Vegas odds on that 10 years ago?
To make his credit, just not waking Mark up in the middle of the night for that.
But as we've said before, I think his interview on this show was probably the best work he's done,
at least in an interview setting.
I know it helped me a lot in turning around.
I wasn't the most excited about Pope that Thursday night either.
But by noon that day after that show, after we had Mitch talk to the fans, I think a lot of people thought,
well, all right, we're in.
Let's see how it goes.
And for a lot of you all, like,
This is going to be the first time you see a lot of these players.
I mean, if I were to play a game of I show you a picture of every player on the team
and you say their name, I'm going to bet there's like only 10% of you in here who'd get it right.
And I'm going to bet there's only one out of the four of the people up here that would get it right.
And that's true.
Can we do that?
I know Travis Perry.
Okay.
I've interviewed him, so I have an advantage.
I know Shannon does.
I don't think you do.
I'm still.
He thinks Robbie Bray who's on the team.
Yeah, you think a guy named Robbie Abreu's on the team.
I don't even know if I could list them all.
Might be able to get them, although I'm not sure.
But tonight we get introduced to them, and I do think, if they win, Ron, and they're
going to have to win.
This will be a group people feel special in their hearts about because they were created
from scratch in a lot of ways.
And we may never have a group like this again, meaning in the future we're going to have a
bunch of top 25 dudes here right it's become clear i think in the way pope recruits this might be the only
time we have this kind of team and i'm looking forward to watching it it's hard to explain if you
don't live here the people that don't live in it's hard to explain that feeling that we got at ruperting
on that sunday and we have right now we're going to have for this team almost like this team is like
saving our program kind of like they're not from kentucky but you know the unforgettable they
how much we love that group they come in to save the program i kind of feel that you're
feel a little like this team's kind of saving our program.
Well, let's see what happens first.
We'll have to win.
I mean, if we're 500, I don't know if it'll be a save.
I have one more thing from that 40 story before we move on.
Did you see the dig at Petino out of the blue?
He did say, did you see the dig at Patino?
He goes, Rick Patino arrived at Kentucky with a slick suit and a bald spot,
and then he put in parentheses, and eight years later it was covered up.
But like, it had nothing to do with the story.
It just said Rick Petino, who.
That's weird.
Yeah, I thought that was a...
Don't shame the man for getting hair plugs.
There's nothing wrong with that.
I definitely nothing wrong with it.
I did think that was a weird thing to throw in there.
We are here at Kentucky Brandon.
We are packed to the house.
They got a ton of UK gear.
I already got him to save me a sweatshirt I liked up there.
We will take a break and be right back to see this Kentucky Sports Radio.
Last night, a blown call changed a game.

What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast,
Point Game is about defining the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs
without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reed.
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by,
like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers,
why he got the ball like, after you go through a training camp with that Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey, everyone, it's Ryder Strong and Will Ferdell from PodMeets World.
And now the Pod Meets Twirled podcast.

and we're gearing up for the season finale of Survivor.
So yeah, now we're experts.
I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners
by our severe lack of survivor knowledge.
That is the point of the show.
I'm just going to remind you.
I have watched some Survivor.
I obviously haven't watched enough.
Did people not like it?
Yeah.
Just because we...
Yeah.
We'll be recapping the big conclusion
in the 50th season
from the final attempts at gameplay
to the desperate pleas of finalists
to a bunch of...
Ha, ooh.
Ah, ha, ooh.
Again, we are experts.
So make sure to tune in to Pod Meets Twirled for all our Survivor 50 takes.

Welcome back, Degie Sports Radio.
All right.
Hey, Rick.
Rick, are you there?
I'm here.
All right, this is an exciting day, Rick.
Okay?
This is an exciting day.
Big Blue Madness, Kentucky, Vandy.
You can't lead us back into break with Toto, Africa.
Actually, that's Weezer's version.
I don't care if it was Weezer's version.
I need you, Rick.
I need you to use your creative music mind,
and I need you to pick out these breaks.
Songs you think will excite people for this big weekend.
All right.
be exciting songs. Can you do that?
I can do that. Okay. Toto's Africa. It's not what I'm looking for.
Strike one. So, Rick, I think you got this in you. I had somebody write me. I don't know if you're
listening yesterday, Rick, but I said Rick is going to, might be on the pregame show. I was
talking about Rick Petino, but people got their hopes up, Rick, because they thought I was talking
about you. Oh, is that right? Rick Petino's now the second most popular Rick in the state of Kentucky.
That's right. By the way, I don't know if you
saw these shoes. This is how big a day it is. True Blue Customs made me these a couple years ago.
I don't normally put them in the tournament, but it has all the banners.
Nice.
Banners are on each shoe, and I brought those out for tonight.
This is the crowd.
Oh, yeah.
Like you're at the price is right, and they roll out a fancy new car.
Whoa.
So this is every banner on a pair of Jordan.
Those are pretty sweet.
I'm glad you like them.
Now, we also have Penn Station subs.
Taylor Bell ice cream here today as well.
It's like what else could you want?
More Toto.
No more Toto.
You know tonight it's a big night for songs with the players.
All right.
So let's talk about what's going to happen tonight.
They opened up as a preview the LED floor.
So the floor is going to be the first time for a college game.
It's a total glass floor.
Drew, I think you know a little bit more about it than I do.
What should people expect to see?
They had a media preview, but I was talking about Lobster
with you on Fade This and couldn't attend, but the videos that came out of it look awesome.
They used it in the NBA All-Star game, the celebrity game last year.
I don't know if anyone watched that, but they do cool.
If somebody hits a bunch of shots, the court might shoot up in flames, or it's just very
interactive.
I know they had the one years ago that it could show video.
That was pretty much you're just projecting video onto the court.
They're going to do all kinds of different things.
The coolest thing I read about it was that if Mark Pope wants to get an iPad and draw up a play,
you can watch that and see that on the floor, like him drawing up a play.
on the floor. Like how cool is that? Yeah. It's basically like they're playing on an iPad.
Brian, we don't need your like, your commentary over there. But I mean, that's kind of a cool thing
to be able to see a play being drawn up, you know, and... No, that sounds very cool. I think it'll be
very interesting. You know, we've talked for years that I felt like there needed to be some sort of
injection of energy or excitement into Big Blue Madness. Some of that's going to be there today.
They're still going to do the intros. I heard the players say, like they're trying to figure out what to do.
They're taking it very seriously.
I've been doing a lot of investigating.
I know a couple of them.
I'm going to let them have their surprises,
but one of them is you could give everyone a billion guesses,
and they would never get this one.
They would never get it?
Yeah. There's some good ones planned.
So what are you looking forward to?
Assuming they don't play a scrimmage, which is what we're hearing.
They're not going to play a scrimmings.
They're only going to do that for the blue-white game next week.
What are you looking forward to seeing tonight?
Just be honest, not even seeing just that feeling,
that feeling again, that we're going to have it back at Rupperina's excitement.
When the guys walk out, no matter who it is, we're all going to be so excited to see him, you know?
And when Pope comes out, that's going to be an awesome pop that he's going to get when he walked out and back on the first.
That will be a great.
It will be.
It will be a great.
Which gets me to, we do this occasionally, what do you think the loudest big blue madness moments of all time are?
I'm going to give you the obvious number one answer is John Wall and the John Wall dance.
Let's just put that at number one.
Nothing else is going to be there.
I'm going to give you some other contenders.
and you tell me if I forget any.
Tubby as Batman.
Yeah.
Catman and Rob.
For those that you don't remember that, that was awesome.
Okay.
I mean, I know it sounds ridiculous, but that was awesome.
I don't think he didn't end up playing,
so people don't talk about it.
But Ennis Cantor coming out as the Undertaker.
Under Cantor.
Under Cantor was pretty amazing.
They gave him a whole intro.
I mean, they gave him a whole intro,
and he did the thing where he put his hand down.
Like Shannon.
Yeah, that was cool.
That was really cool for a guy that ended up not playing.
For me, that might be the best one, being a wrestling fan.
That's cooler than the John Wall dancing.
What else do you remember?
Under Cal, there was always speculation of the guest.
I think Drake was rumored every single year and he came to two or three of them.
So Drake, going through the warm-up lines, less cool today than it was then,
after all that's happened with Drake.
him airballing the three, I think, was a pretty funny moment of it.
Do you have memories even going back to the Patino airs?
I think back, we're going way back the day that Bill Catley jumped out of the big birthday cake.
That was a big deal.
But really, in the recent years, it was been what Matthew Mitchell's dance.
That's right, Matthew Mitchell's dance.
Well, Billy Gillespie's first entrance.
I mean, again, Billy Gillespie ended up being a dud, but when they brought Bill.
Billy Gillespiean in the bus, if I remember correctly.
No, no.
They dropped like banners, like a magic tree.
That's right.
They had banners, and then it was like he was just there.
Like David Copperfield just popped up.
Yes, that was actually kind of cool.
He showed up.
Did somebody say last call, then he walks through the door?
No one thinks as highly of this one, but the Archie Goodwin dance.
Archie Goodwin was good.
I'll watch that in my head, maybe daily.
I think it's one of the best things that's ever happened around Kentucky basketball.
So, and the, but, you know, nothing will ever beat the John Wall dance just for
the whole situation. And my favorite part of that story was it was supposed to be DeMarcus
Cousins that did the dance. And then he got up there and it was too high and he was worried he
was going to fall off. If you go find the video, Wall goes last. But Cousins goes next to last
and go back and watch Cousins. He is shaking, holding on, worried he's going to fall the entire time.
We never saw that DeMarcus cousins again during his time at Kentucky. No, he doesn't flinch or
smile. He even said in recent interview that Cal told him like no funny business. So between
Cal's warning and that railing up there, he wasn't moving. I think for tonight, though,
the thing I'm most excited to see is just the three-point shooting contest because we've heard
all these legendary stories about practice and how great of a shooting shoot is. Dude, I didn't think
about that. The three-point shooting contest, like, nobody's going to miss. I mean,
there's a chance. Wait till you see these guys. If you go tonight, watch them warm up at
threes. Travis Perry and Andrew Carr and Kobe Brea do not miss. They do not miss. Like the three of
them don't miss a shot. I've interviewed Kobe Brea twice now. Last year he was the best shooter in
college basketball that didn't play for Kentucky. And he has said out loud, I don't even know
that I'm the best shooter on this team. So to hear a competitor that led the NCAA at Dayton last year,
say I'm looking around practice and I don't even think I'm the best one in here. That's pretty
impressive. We just had three of the six best all time. Now, these guys got to do it in games. That was the
thing is those guys could do it in games. These guys got to do it in games. But if you just watch
it practice, Travis Perry is a better shooter than Reed Shepard. Kobe Brea is probably a better
shooter than Antonio Reeves. And Andrew Carr might be a better shooter than Dillingham. Now, those
guys did it in games. So I'm not saying, like these guys are going to have to do it in games. But
you're about to see another group in here that can absolutely fill it up.
It's crazy, Ryan.
That statement you just made blows my mind.
We just had three of the best shooters in our history, and we got three guys coming behind
them that may be even better.
Maybe.
Now, again, they got to do it in games.
Those three dudes I just said, they did it in games.
We'll take a break.
Be right back.
We are here at Kentucky Branden.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back here at Kentucky Sports Radio.
So, Rick, what did you pick here?
is this? Phil Collins.
Phil Collins.
Who gets you more excited than Bill Collins?
Phil it coming in the air tonight.
Yes, that's right.
Yeah, this is this call.
It really cooks.
It really cooks.
It really cooks.
It is. It's really groovy.
23 skadoo.
So what's this called?
Physical attraction?
Invisible touch.
All right, whatever.
I think Barry Williams is coming out to this time.
Yeah, this is probably, we'll probably hear this
tonight.
Somebody wrote on the text machine that
Ryan Kewood Letford came out of a casket at Big Blue Madness once.
Does anybody remember that?
I've always heard that, but I never saw it.
I've never seen video of it.
Any of you in the crowd remember Kaywood Ledford coming out of a casket?
Bobby does.
I googled it and the only story is written by me.
Wow.
Apparently it came out and said, welcome to Big Boo Madness.
I don't think that would go over well these days.
That's like old humor.
Yeah.
And the same story that mentions that, we forgot the cloggers in 2000.
The cloggers.
The cloggers were the worst one.
Yeah.
I remember that that was awful.
8.59, 2.8, no offense to clogging, but that was not good.
We also, by the way, Travis Perry will come in here at 1130 and is going to be live right before his debut.
Nice.
Big Blue Man to see.
Again, another change, by the way, that is able to happen in the new era, which is these guys get to come on shows like this.
They were banned from doing shows like this for a long time, and now they can come, and Travis does stuff with Kentucky Brand.
Let's talk for a second before I go.
The phone's UK Vandy tomorrow.
Kentucky is now a 13-5-point favorite.
I kind of got bored last night, was driving,
listened to some college football stuff.
A lot of people think Vandy has a shot at winning the game,
certainly covering the 13-5-and-a-half.
I am strangely confident, Drew, about the game.
Should I be?
I'm strangely confident, too.
I was also strangely confident in the South Carolina game.
That's true.
That's true.
really good. I just keep thinking about the Kentucky's defense playing Georgia and
Ole Miss. I can't know I have the numbers off top of my head but limiting them about two
touchdowns each. I mean those are two of the best offenses in football. Georgia's
Georgia and Kentucky rose to that challenge. Now Pobby is on every channel on every TV.
But see that's good for us. Yeah, no that's what I'm saying.
Heismic candidate. You realize we got a Heisman candidate. You do not have a Heisman candidate.
You're not a Heisman. What are you talking about? We ended Jackson Darts Heisman
to see. And I think we end
Diego's tomorrow. I don't like
Ryan when you say you're positive
because that almost never works out for
us. So I would rather you not say
that, but how do you feel?
Feel good about our defense. We all
agree. The defense could probably find a way to slow them
down. But like I said yesterday, we've scored
two touchdowns in the first three SEC
games, and one of them was we fell on a fumble
in the end zone. So really the offense has scored
one touchdown in three SEC games.
They've got to find a way to put it in the end zone.
Well, the one we were going to score.
there. He fumbled in the end. I mean, I'm still
giving us credit for that one. But I do think
we do have to
we got to, you know,
we got to convert in the red zone.
If you convert in the red zone, I think you win
tomorrow. We just, we have
really, really struggled converting
in the red zone. Vandy's defense,
I mean, their quarterback's awesome and their
offense, they keep the ball and keep the ball
out of your hands, but their defense isn't that good.
And they have some pretty big injuries
especially at linebacker.
I think a lot of the guys are kind of
50-50 so we won't really know until tomorrow but if they have some absences
Kentucky should be able to move the ball they lost a bunch of guys during the Alabama game I mean
it got lost in the celebration but they lost like three defensive starters during the
Alabama game and it's it's suspected at least two of them don't play so I mean they are a
banged-up team and this team did lose to Georgia Southern State State excuse me
judge State like some respect on Georgia State
but I mean it's not taking away anything they did a week ago but I mean it's not like
this is some unbeatable force coming into Lexington.
Yeah, I totally agree with you.
Who's up next?
Got Connor up next.
Connor, go ahead, Connor.
Hey, guys, beautiful morning out on Cooper Drive,
getting our tailgate spot staked out.
Big Blue Madness tonight.
It's kind of one of those weekends, like you said, Lexington.
Work doesn't need you.
You just take off today.
Get it started early.
You should skip.
I mean, it is that beautiful day.
I'm writing you a pass to get out of any job in the city.
Like, there is no reason to.
to have to work today.
Unless you work at KSbar,
we do need you to come in for the big,
for big blue matter.
But everybody else,
you should be able to take the day out.
Yeah,
I do want to make a quick case too.
I'm seeing some griping on Twitter
and as Shannon mentioned this morning
about the blackout tomorrow.
So here's my case for participating in the blackout.
Well, by the way,
for people who don't know before you do it,
but for people do know,
UK football has announced
they're having a blackout for the game tomorrow.
All right, so they want everyone to wear black for the UK games.
Hold on.
Well, here's my case.
Hang on, sir.
Let me finish what I'm saying.
Shut up, Shannon.
They want everyone to wear black.
So if you don't have black, try to find black.
And the team is wearing black uniforms,
which they only do once a year.
So just so people know, it is a blackout tomorrow for the game.
They just announced that last night.
Now, go ahead.
Yes, so when we choose these things, in my opinion, these decisions are for the fans and the players only.
I don't care who we're playing.
Let's do what we want to do and make the environment super cool on TV and for the players to enjoy.
If the other team's color happens to be black and we beat them in their own color, then we just take their color from them.
But the second part of it is.
But we're wearing black tomorrow.
They're wearing white.
Correct, correct.
I know.
The gripe seems to be that Vandy's color is black.
Don't let social media.
Don't let six people on Twitter make you.
If they want people to wear black, we should wear black.
It'll be a cool environment.
I'm just worried about them getting the word out because usually they announce that stuff earlier in the week and I wish they had.
But nevertheless, we're wearing black.
If six people on Twitter don't like it, there's six people on Twitter that would yell at Jesus.
So don't worry about it.
Yeah, totally agree.
The second point of it is for the people who are saying they want to wear blue and white, I get it.
but on TV, it's going to look a lot better if we're all on board and wearing black,
and then you can't even tell where the Vandy fans are and they will look non-existent,
because if you show up in your blue or you're white and you ruin our blackout,
it's going to look a lot worse and be worse for us overall.
So that's all I got. Go Cats. Big weekend.
I appreciate it. I think people will wear black.
I think it'll look good.
Blacks are good. We talked about this.
Black's a good color on people.
Black's the one color. Everybody can look pretty good on us.
There is a pushback online, so people are against it.
I mean, I wish the timing.
I wish they would announce it earlier.
They need to announce it early.
Most schools do it weeks, even months in advance.
There are people already in Lexington for the game that already passed.
Yeah, they need to announce that stuff earlier.
Because, you know, you're exactly right.
There's people here who didn't bring a black shirt.
So, I mean, they should announce it earlier.
But it's now announced, and we're black.
And let's go, and we'll have a good time.
If only we knew a T-shirt manufacturer that made U.K. shirts in black
to buy one, get one free today.
I bet the black that's true
Buy one get one free
I bet if the black ones are in here
I think they're going to go pretty quick
What's next?
Kevin is up next
Kevin go ahead Kevin
Hey guys
I got a couple points to make
So the blue
The blue big big blue madness
Was sold out in 24 seconds
I was just wondering if that was a record
Over Cal
with all the premier things
Is going on with the program
I think it was 24 seconds
That would have been
I think that would have been
Yeah, yeah, that's right, my bad.
It's a little bit of a difference.
And then Caleb Wilson went to North Carolina last weekend for an unofficial visit.
Mark Pope visited him this week.
With everything going on, I think that we'll see Caleb Wilson maybe with his mom and dad there tonight and other people, too.
So keep your eyes open for that.
I'll be looking for it.
So give us quickly.
I appreciate the call.
Drew, the UK basketball, because there's a lot going on right now in UK basketball recruiting.
The Boozer Twins are going to commit to Duke.
That's actually good for us because we've been going out because we weren't going to get them anyway,
and this allows other guys to free up.
I mean, Kentucky is on the verge of getting commitments from two top ten guys,
and I'm not sure that our fans all totally realize it.
So give us it up, day.
Well, they have a guard on campus that's, that's the one could be close to pop at any minute.
Caden Lewis. He's getting the whole tour.
He's already been posting from the facility.
He could conceivably commit today or tomorrow.
They'll get the whole Jeff Ruby's experience if he hadn't had it already.
But they kind of ran into a hiccup this weekend.
Normally you have 10 people.
They have like the big event in Colorado.
Like all the recruits are out at an event this weekend.
So Kentucky actually couldn't bring in a lot of people.
But that's good.
You know, they would go all in on him while he's in.
And I think he'd be the next to go.
And the one they mentioned Caleb Pope kind of made an emergency trip
after he added North Carolina as an unofficial visit.
We don't know how that went, but maybe he convinced him to do something this weekend.
Yeah, so a Caden Lewis and Caleb Wilson, two top 10 to 15 guys,
are both like potentially on the edge of committing.
And if you get a Caden Lewis, Caleb Wilson, Jasper Johnson,
that and Moreno, that's a group that's in the ballpark of the Cal kind of recruiting classes.
And you throw in Cal recruiting classes with actually drawing up plays
and running a modern offense.
What do you mean, whoa?
We lost to Oakland.
Stop the woes.
Who's up next?
I'll add, these are the guys about two or three weeks ago.
There's all that Twitter flirting.
I want to play with him.
I don't know what Twitter you are.
We talked about it.
They were all like quote-tweet-e each other.
I want to play with him.
Come to Lexney with me, bro.
These are those four, these are the fours so we can tie that up.
What part of Twitter is he on?
That gets just the new generation of players.
We talked to heard on this show about two weeks ago.
It's a joke.
I'm kidding.
But no, those are the ones.
Shady Ray.
Twitter after dark.
Yeah, no kidding.
Shady Ray's.
If you need sunglasses, because it's going to be a great weekend for the sun,
and you're tired of buying expensive ones.
How about Shady Ray's?
Independent American-owned company started right here in Kentucky.
They got aviators.
They got the new U.K. sunglasses.
Every member of their family can find their perfect pair.
It's Shadyrays and Shadyrays.com.
Try their in-collection in-person right over here.
Cross the street or in Louisville, it's Shady Rays.
All right, we're going to take a break.
I'm going to give some prizes away during the break.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Last night, a blown call changed a game.
This morning, the internet lost its mind.
Highlights are trending, opinions are flying,
and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
That's where Sports Slice comes in.
I'm Timbo.
Every episode, we're cutting through the noise,
breaking down the plays, the controversies,
and the stories behind the headlines.
We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves,
their locker room stories,
reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that
never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial
calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered.
Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them.

What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by,
like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers
why he got the ball.
After you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah,
you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the,
iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey, everyone. It's Ryder Strong and Will Ferdell from PodMeets World.
And now the PodMeets Twirled podcast. We're two men who were completely clueless to reality
TV, who now have covered Dancing with the Stars, traitors, and we're gearing up for the
season finale of Survivor. So yeah, now we're experts.
I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners by our severe lack of survivor knowledge.
That is the point of the show. I'm just going to remind you.
I have watched some Survivor.
I obviously haven't watched enough.
Did people not like it?
Like what was...
Yeah.
Just because we...
Yeah.
We'll be recapping the big conclusion
at the 50th season
from the final attempts at gameplay
to the desperate pleas of finalists
to a bunch of...
Ha, hoo.
Ha ha, ooh.
Ha ha, ooh.

This is Clever Taylor the 4th.
And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show,
I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff.
Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me.
He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Come on out.
Quarterback on office blue of 42.
Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Hey, Miss Parker.

gang welcome back kentucky sports radio hey they're clapping oh my goodness they like it
rick all right rick how about this can i ask for one favor okay what's that you've played now a 70 song
and an 80s so can we in the next three you do like do one 90s one 2000s one two thousand 10s to
get us motivated? Sure, I can do that. All right, good. Just trying to get more and more close to the
actual generation we're living in, Shannon. I don't know, they were digging the cool of the game.
He's kind of went backwards. I was worried we were getting a Frankie Valley song here in the second hour.
Sinatra's next. Yeah. 8-5-9-280-2287. It's time to do our draft king's picks. You all have to pick one
winner, one winner to win. Remember, they've got to be a seven,
point favorite or less in order to do it while you're looking for your team because you're not
prepared like drew and i are we're prepared uh who's up front we'll take a call who's next marcia's up
next marcia go ahead marcia marcia i'm going to give you an update before you come on i talked
to somebody on patino's staff they are actively considering coming tomorrow they said they
will let me know by first thing tomorrow morning so i'm gonna wake up and either rick petino will be
into KS. Bar around 4.30 or 5 o'clock, or he won't. I don't know, but I won't be able to
it. And I don't think they want me to publicize it on Twitter. So it's like you'll tune in
and he'll either go to be on or not. So I just wanted you to know, Marsha. Well, whoopty-doo.
I love it. I don't know why we just are just pursuing St. John's coach.
I understand. Are you excited?
Marsha, leave your thoughts about Rick aside.
You're somebody who adored the era that Pope comes from.
Are you excited for tonight?
Of course I am.
And thank God I got tickets.
Good.
So, yeah, I'll be there.
I'm excited about Mark Pope.
Well, good.
What else did you have?
Well, I have a question.
Okay.
For you.
I know your life has changed.
but Miss Amy McGrath being on the news lately, that heifer,
that got that show canceled.
I miss, hey Kentucky.
I miss Roe Mines, Ricky Jones.
If you had that opportunity to do it again, would you do it?
You know, maybe.
I mean, I've had people, I've had a couple stations offer me something on it.
The problem with television is much more so than radio.
It's very, very stressful.
You cannot leave.
It wed you to a place.
Whereas like, and, you know, with the last post-COVID, I just need, I felt like I needed to have more freedom to do stuff.
But I will say I haven't given up on it.
And I, and maybe, maybe one day, okay?
But I'm not, not soon, but maybe one day.
I'll tell you, it was entertaining and I learned from it, too.
It was really good.
Well, thank you.
And I enjoyed doing it because, like, these guys did it some,
and we got to do different stuff.
I love it.
But it's just, TV is very stressful for a variety of reasons,
and it just, it's a lot.
So, but I do appreciate that, Marshall.
Well, I know you've got more going on in your life, too, now.
Yeah, no, I do.
But I appreciate it.
That's very nice of you.
Thank you.
All right.
Did you got to appreciate the call, Mars.
All right, I've got my team.
I'll go first.
I won't be stealing any years.
My winner is Pitt wins at home against Cal.
Cal's got to come all the way across the country after playing in the middle of the night last week.
They had game day.
They got all excited.
Now they've got to go all the way across the country to play a day game at Pitt.
They're going to be tired.
Pitt's only a three-point favorite.
Pitt wins.
That's part of my money line parlay for KSR.
I got Pitt.
What about you?
Right.
I'm going to go BYU over Arizona, BYU at home, getting three.
Is that tonight?
Saturday at 4 o'clock.
All right, so you got BYU at home against Arizona.
BYU is a what?
Three point favorite.
I like it.
That's a good one.
What do you got, Drew?
I like an underdog, but that's getting a little risky.
So I'm going to stick with Miami at Louisville.
Miami at Louisville?
Yes.
Okay.
Miami's for real.
Got a Heisman contending quarterback.
My other pick, though, that scares me, though.
I like LSU winning as a dog if you'd rather have that one.
They're getting points at home to Ole Miss.
That's a four and a half point favorite versus three and a half point.
I'd ready take Miami.
There we go.
I do like LSU though.
So we got Miami, Pitt, and BYU.
What's our final part of the KSR parlor?
We're going money line, right?
Money line, just got to win.
Okay, Air Force is terrible.
We saw that last week when they played Navy.
Are they?
Okay.
Yeah.
New Mexico beats Air Force.
I love it.
What do you know about New Mexico and Air Force?
I know Air Force sucks, and New Mexico's playing at home.
and they're a six and a half point favorite
and that's all I need.
It's right inside the number.
To be fair, what do we know about any of these teams?
You should listen to Faye this.
We'll tell you all about these teams.
Okay, do you not like that?
I mean, I can get an alternative.
No, no.
I mean, you did.
To be fair, you were the only one that lost last week.
But nevertheless.
No, you lost.
Well, but you lost first.
He lost, too, and blames it on me.
If that ain't a Matt Jones move, I don't know what it is.
New Mexico, Miami, Pitt, and BYU.
Mario, did you write those down?
You got it.
All right, cool.
I couldn't see you there.
All right, who's up next?
Chris is up next.
Chris, go ahead, Chris.
Good morning.
This is Chris from Jacksonville.
I normally call in when either there's games down here in Florida or on free games and post games
because I'm locked to not being able to listen live normally with work.
But I had a story to tell.
And I'll call next week about going to the game.
All right, we got to go quick.
We got to go quick.
What's your story?
No, I was in Frankfurt visiting clients this week, and before I got there, one of the folks that I've worked with for a while
tipped me off that the new boss realized, wait, that's the Chris from Jacksonville that calls it on KSR.
So it was a funny moment to share with them, so just a shout out to Hannah and her team.
And again, I'll call in next week about Florida.
That's next week.
All right.
Well, thank you very much.
There you go.
People recognize Chris, Drew.
That reminds me of Johnny Versace getting recognized
It's like a conference in the middle of Nebraska
Just by his voice
His voice is very, very
Yeah, it's funny how these collars take on a little popular in your own
Who do you think when Big Blue Madness is over tonight, right?
Who do you think is the player people are going to be going?
Wow, did you see that guy?
I think it's going to be Brea or Travis Perry
Because, like you said, they just don't miss
And I think we've heard about it
But to actually see it firsthand, you're going to walk away like,
Oh my goodness, these guys are incredible
I think Kobe Brea and Andrew Carrey
are the two players that are the best that our fans, you know, just really don't know.
I mean, everybody's had in their head Jackson Robinson because we've talked about him so much.
Travis Perry and some kids were from Kentucky, et cetera.
But Kobe Bray and Andrew Carr, I think are going to be our second and third high scores,
maybe even our first and second, depending on how it goes.
And Drew, tonight is kind of their introduction to Big Blue Nation.
Not knowing what all they'll do tonight, I think shooters will shine.
This might not be a dunk contest team.
I think people really like Kirk crease after his intro.
I'll say that, but I think the shooters will really...
Kirk crease's intro is going to...
That'll be a big one. That'll be something people talk about as well.
We're going to take a break and come back.
