Time out.

Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio here live at the Kentucky branded.
Great, great crowd here on a Friday, start of a massive UK weekend.
in one hour at noon, we will start playing the 96 UK championship game at KS Bar.
So when you all finish here, you can go in your cars and see that.
We're just going to play it on loop until Big Blue Madness starts at 7.
We'll have it at 7 o'clock at KS Bar.
It is also on the SEC Network.
So for those of you at home, this is on the regular SEC Network.
So you will be able to watch Big Blue Madness tonight.
And then if you go, come see us at the bar after on your way home for a little.
little, what they call them, Shannon, a nightcap. That's right.
A couple things here before I want to talk about the UK basketball schedule that got released.
First of all, today is the 75th anniversary, Drew, of Skyline Chili.
Skyline chili started 75 years ago today, and they are, as an anniversary, they're doing a new thing.
You can get a three-way, a four-way, or a five-way, and they'll put little potatoes on top, little fried potatoes.
is part of it.
Do you like that as an addition to one of my favorite places to eat?
I would be willing to try it.
I do love Skyline Chili.
So I don't know.
75 years ago, I feel like I owe them a hug because I've eaten there so much.
You spent some Valentine's Day there, right?
I spent some Valentine's down there.
You have to say alone when you say that.
It was not with other people.
It is implied.
If you're at Skyline on Valentine's Day, there's a good change you're alone.
But go ahead.
You know, you need to be nominated for customer of the year the way you love to Skyline and plug it like that.
So happy anniversary to Skyline.
Happy anniversary of Skyline.
I also have a quick story that's non-sports before I get to it that I read that I think you guys would find fascinating.
And I want you all to be the legal jury as to what should happen.
Courts in session.
Do you know who John Lennon is?
Yes.
John Lennon, for those of you that don't know, was a beetle.
All right.
and in 1980 he was photographed walking out of a building and he had on a watch.
Okay, it was a Rolex watch.
It's a famous photograph and it is rumored to be potentially one of the most expensive watches ever on earth.
It was a special edition Rolex.
They only made 300 of them.
It's one of the last pictures of John Lennon and he's wearing this watch.
And watch aficionados have wondered, where is this watch, right?
Okay, fast forward.
He gave it, obviously, the Yoko Ono as part of the divorce.
Yoko Ono puts it in a safe.
25 years later, the watch turns up, and this Turkish guy has John Lennon's watch,
and he claims he has John Lennon's watch.
Now, the Turkish guy was John Lennon and Yoko Ono's bodyguard from 1978 until, like, 2000.
Long story short, there's some rumors he and Yoko on.
Yoko Ono had a thing, whatever it was, they had a falling out.
He actually got some criminal charges.
He gets deported to Turkey, takes the watch with it.
Okay?
He claims John Lennon, before he died, gave him as a thank you to his years of service, this watch.
Okay?
But John Lennon is now dead.
Fast forward.
2005, he's in Turkey.
He's living in Turkey.
In 2010, he sells the watch to a watch.
another guy who hears hey where'd you get this watch i was john lennon's bodyguard here's proof i was
john lindon's bodyguard the guy goes makes sense right guy keeps the watch for a few years 2000
22 sells the watch to somebody else who's got john lennon's watch that guy is like i've got something
valuable he decides to put the watch up for auction auction house goes john lennon's watch
Yoko Ono, who's now 87 years old, sees the story and goes, wait a minute, I have that watch.
Goes to her safe, and the watch is gone.
Ooh.
So, John, so now the second guy to buy it, not the original one.
The original guy's dead, okay, the guy who had it first time, he's dead.
guy who bought it in 2022 says, I bought this watch, it's mine, linen gave it to so-and-so.
Yoko Ono says my husband would have never given away that watch.
It was supposed to be in this safe.
This guy's stolen.
Now, according to Switzerland, has to decide next week, who gets the watch?
Yoko Ono, who claims it was wrongly stolen and that for 25 years she didn't know,
because she kept it in a safe that she never opened and didn't find out
until the notice of the auction came up,
or the guy who's not alleged to have stolen it,
who legally bought it,
but it's stolen so if the original guy didn't have legal ownership,
he wasn't able to buy it.
The court of Switzerland has to decide who gets it,
the guy who bought it or Yoko Ono.
What would you do, knowing those set of facts,
who would you give the watch to?
It wouldn't be Yoko Ono for me
Because that thing's been gone for 25 years
And she didn't even know that she didn't have it for that long
So she can go another 25 years without as far as I'm concerned
By that point she's 90
She's probably gonna be dead
That's my point
There you go
So why so your reasoning is
I mean she didn't
She has no proof that John did not give that
That's just her word
She says he wouldn't do it
But she don't know
Very true
But the devil's advocate is
The guy who has it
Has no proof Lennon gave it to it
Beyond the fact that he has it
So it could just be
some watch that's really worth nothing.
The question is, was it given to him?
No, it is his.
They've proven it was his.
Okay.
The question is that did he steal it,
which is what Yoko Ono says,
or did he give it to him?
But there's really no proof that either of the things happen.
Yep.
So I think you just have to let it be.
You just...
Very good.
Very good.
Oh, yeah.
Well done.
So you would take the guy...
You would take the guy who's bought it two times from now.
You would say it's his.
What about you, Drew?
It's a tough fact to follow, but I have the same thought.
I mean, if she can't prove it was stolen, and if you had it for 25 years and I was missing,
you'll be all right anyway.
I just say, I can't say it let it be, leave it as this.
All right.
What about you?
I am not trying to sound mean against somebody who's 87 years old,
but I can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday.
She may not remember.
that that situation happened, what, 44 years ago that John gave the watch to their security guard.
By the way, this is a watch they think might be worth $17 million now.
Wow.
So I'm kind of siding with my co-ords, Drew and Shannon, that the possession is, what, five-tenths of the law, whatever it is?
That's not true.
It's just something people say, but yes.
I believe that the current owner owns the watch.
All right, so let me tell you what the Switzerland court said.
the Supreme Court is deciding next week,
but the lower court originally ruled for Yoko Ono.
Wow.
And why they said neither of you has proof.
The last person we know has proof they owned it is John Lennon.
And John Lennon, they were like,
the circumstances are I can't imagine John Lennon would give you this watch
and you have no proof that he gave it to you.
With no proof, we go.
go back to the person that was the last person to have proof of ownership, and it was
Lenin.
And the Supreme Court will decide next week whether they agree with him.
But you three would have voted the other way.
Yes.
There's no proof one way or the other.
But if one friend gives another friend to watch, what kind of, do you have to have a written
contract is proved to get it to get it?
In America, if I gave you a watch like that, let's say this word, America.
And I gave you a watch like that.
technically that's a gift that you need to pay a tax on because it's worse so much money.
There's a thing called a gift tax.
And if you didn't pay it and there was no contract, I think in America I'd get it back.
Because you wouldn't have, by paying the taxes, acknowledge the gift.
Does that make sense?
But in Switzerland, there are no rules.
Apparently.
So that's why it ended up in Switzerland.
So anyway, I just thought that was an interesting fact.
It is.
It is.
Something to think about.
And you'll see that picture.
If you Google John Lennon watch, you'll see the picture.
It was taken like a few weeks before he died.
Who's up next?
Dan is up next.
Dan, go ahead, Dan.
Hey, Matt.
Hey, look, I just have brain surgery on Tuesday.
I had cancer again.
Everything's cool.
Well, I'm sorry to hear that.
And God bless you, Dan.
I hope recovery continues to go well.
Yeah, look, I want to talk about the wild stuff.
I think this is the best team we've ever had that had all three phases.
And also our defense with Wallace, it's going to be unstoppable.
Is Harrison playing this week?
Is who?
Harrison.
Harrison.
Now, I'm going to assume he doesn't play the rest of the year.
That's my assumption.
Okay.
And look, one more thing, now.
The offensive line, I'm going to get, I'm going to call them it.
It's going to be the most valuable player.
And I want to have a shout out to the neurology department at UK.
So go, Kat.
We got this game tomorrow.
Hey, we love you, Dan.
Thank you very much.
And let me just say something.
This is what 40 was getting at earlier today,
and this is what we saw in April,
and this is what we're going to see tonight.
The reason this fan base is special.
That man just got a brain cancer surgery three days ago.
What's he want to do?
He wants to call a UK sports show and talk about the cats.
That to me, that's to me why this is a very special place, Ryan.
You know, you hear it in his voice.
You know, he just loves this team and he loves this program.
He loves this university so much.
Nothing's going to get him down because he's excited about talking about a big,
game this weekend against Fandandibu. I got
chili bumps. Listen to that phone call right there.
You did get chili bumps. You know, Dan's been
listening and calling for a long time.
God bless you, Dan.
Now, I want to talk for a second about the basketball
schedule. Came out with times.
Some interesting things here. Let's run
over them real quick, Drew.
Let's start with, I think, the headline. Kentucky
versus Arkansas and Calipari.
They put that game at 9 o'clock
at night on ESPN. First,
it's the week between the championship
games in the Super Bowl, so it'll be the first weekend without any football, and they're throwing
Kentucky, Arkansas at 9. You want to talk about a gym that's going to be busting at the seams.
9 o'clock on a Saturday night, Drew. That's going to be wild. Yeah, I wrote about this yesterday.
That's a nightmare situation for John Calli P. I mean, we know he hates 9 p.m. games anyway, to be
fair, most people don't like 9 p.m. games, but he really hates them. Yes. I mean, he's going to have to sit around all day
in Lexington and think about that.
That's going to be excruciating.
I think some fans might be a little well-lubated.
Are you kidding me?
I think there might be an increase in the probability of him getting booed.
Oh, I agree.
I think it made it much more likely he's booed by that time of day.
I mean, just across the board, it's not what John Caliperi wanted and is an advantage for Kentucky.
Shannon, 9 o'clock.
I mean, I'm already juiced for that game, and it's months away.
It's going to be so wild, seeing him on the other sideline.
It's going to be wild.
Wow, man.
What a great atmosphere that's going to be.
In Kentucky, I mean, they don't struggle to get viewers, but as far as like a watch game, the numbers have got to be crazy.
That's going to be Carolina Duke level level numbers for that one.
College game day probably picked that one too.
Five SEC Network, five SEC Network plus games.
What's sort of broader scale, and I don't really know the reason, but a lot of the non-conference games that used to be on the SEC network, this is for all schools, have been moved to SEC Plus.
So you're going to need to have SEC Plus to watch them.
A lot of you have it.
Some of you don't.
But that's a new chance.
We used to have one game a year on SEC Plus.
Now, Ryan, five throughout the course of this year that will be on the computer only to use my language.
Makes it a little harder for a lot of fans to try to find it, you know.
It kind of breaks my heart a little bit.
One game a year, but then we can get by.
But now five games.
Including both exhibitions.
See, I mean, you want to watch Kentucky Wesley and come into Rup Arena next year in a couple weeks, right?
do. Yeah, I mean, you do. I do. I definitely do.
But they're slowly, though, putting more of an emphasis
on these games. They are. They want you.
They want you. Because eventually, all these
games are being on stream. That's just, it's just a matter
of time. A couple other things I've found
interesting. We play Florida on
January 4th at Rupp at 11 a.m.
That has to be the earliest game
that Kentucky, I think
Kentucky has ever played at home
at Rupp Arena, through an 11
a.m. tip-off for the first
SEC game of the year. Yeah, I mean, just
the opposite of Arkansas. We're going to get up a little early and get that energy going because we'll need to rep rocking for that one.
We'll need roughing all these games and, you know, 11 a.m. start. I get the time.
That's an upset watch. You show up at 11 a.m. You're like, you've got to be ready to play at 11 a.
You know, one of the things we hate, we hate night games. We hate playing at 9 o'clock during the SEC.
Only one 9 o'clock game besides Arkansas all year. We play at Oklahoma at 9 o'clock.
Ryan, everything else is either 7 or 8.
I've got to be honest, that's the first thing I looked at.
I'm old.
I can't stay up that late watching games.
Get over at midnight.
That's the first thing I looked at how many 9 o'clock games there were,
because there was a time where we'd have like five or six 9 o'clock games in a season.
And I'm just going to tell you I'm petty.
All right.
I'm petty.
I remember at Cal's press conference saying,
you remember how much we were on national TV before at Kentucky.
That's going to be how it is here.
So you know what I went and did?
I went and tried to see who was on national television more.
So I went at the SEC games.
You know, there are games that they've decided.
Is it going to be on ESPN?
Is it going to be on ESPN?
Is it going to be on ESPN?
But there are also games that they go, this game's so big,
we'll decide right now it's on ESPN.
Kentucky has eight SEC games that are already on ESPN
and one that's on ABC.
So half of our SEC games locked into ESPN
locked into ABC.
Shaden, you want to guess how many Arkansas has?
Not that many.
Probably three.
Three.
And one of them is our game.
And one of them is against us.
Throw that one out.
So two.
Now, they'll get more.
A lot of their games,
either or will be on ESPN.
But ESPN locked in and said,
we want nine.
The other one got three.
I'm not saying, I'm just saying.
We'll take a break and be right back.

And in recognition of mental health awareness month,
I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience
in the mental health field and conversations
with so many incredible guests.
I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing
and we're still chasing it
and we don't know when we've done enough
because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

What's up, fam?
This Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm CJ Toledano and our podcast,
Point game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reed.
He has to guard Julius Rui.
Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He run up the court, licking his fingers,
why he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real
quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey everyone, it's Ryder Strong and Will Ferdell from PodMeets World.
And now the Pod Meets Twirled podcast.
We're two men who were completely clueless to reality TV, who now have covered dancing
with the stars, traitors, and we're gearing up for the season finale of Survivor.
So yeah, now we're experts.
I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners by our severe lack of survivor knowledge.
That is the point of this show.
I'm just going to remind you.
I have watched some Survivor.
I obviously haven't watched enough.
Did people not like it?
Like what was...
Yeah.
Just because we...
Yeah.
We'll be recapping the big conclusion
in the 50th season.
From the final attempts at gameplay,
to the desperate pleas of finalists,
to a bunch of...
Ha, hoo.
Ha, ha, ooh.
Again, we are experts.

There are times when the mind
becomes a difficult place to live.
This is David Eagleman with the Inner Cosmos podcast, and for Mental Health Awareness Month,
we're dedicating a series to understanding the mind when it struggles.
I'm joined by doctors, researchers, and those with lived experience.
We'll talk with singer-songwriter Jewel about anxiety.
I started living in my car, and then my car got stolen.
I was shoplifting.
I was having panic attacks.
I was agoraphobic.
And making it through hardship.
To be present is a learned skill.
and it's hard to be present.
We'll talk with John Nelson about clinical depression
and the brain implant that saved his life.
What I learned is the procedure made me happy
because I'm disease-free.
And we'll talk with leading experts
like Judd Brewer about anxiety
and John Hirschfield about obsessive-compulsive disorder
and the science of how the brain can change.
This is a month of deeply personal
and honest conversations about what happens
when the brain goes off course and what we can do about it.
Listen to Intercosmos on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
It's Kentucky Sports Radio.
Now, is this the 90s, Rick?
Yes, it is.
This came out in 1990.
I'm excited for your 2000s and 2010.
I don't know where that's going to go.
UK Federal Credit Union.
It is banking only better.
If you have banking needs, you go to UK Federal Credit Union.
They got great rates.
They can put you in the best use of your money, and you can get a banking account.
You can do a new for your student.
For your student or – sorry, the read is not here, so I'm having to add live.
For the student in your life, they can also get their first banking account.
Try UK Federal Credit Union.
It is banking only better.
By the way, you picked Miami over Louisville.
That game does not exist.
LSU.
So you're taking –
I soon had changed it.
You're taking LSU over Ole Miss, and LSU's a dog.
So this thing's going to pay like 18 to 1 probably.
When Ole Miss does that falling down in Death Valley, they might riot.
So I like LSU at home at night.
That's a tough atmosphere.
They shouldn't be an underdog anywhere.
So we have Pitt, BYU, LSU, and New Mexico.
Those are our four.
That's a winner.
I feel like that's a winner.
859-280-2287.
Travis Perry is going to join us in just a second.
Who's up next?
Got Chris up next.
Chris, go ahead, Chris.
Hey, Matt, a couple of fact checks on that John Lennon watch.
It's actually a protect belief, not a Rolex.
But what's really intriguing to me is that that might be the most valuable watch
if it ever came up to auction in the world.
You know how much Paul Newman's Rolex went for a few years ago?
Yeah, I saw Paul Newman's watch went for like $7.5 million or something?
17.
17 and a half million dollars.
And they think Lenin's money.
So this is a big thing, the court.
trying to decide who it goes to who would you give it to sir uh give it to me man i'd love it
i don't really feel like you have a legal claim to it in any in any form but uh but i understand
my uh my brother's name is lenin they named him after john lennon so yeah that's not going to
that's not going to stand up i mean i don't know the law of switzerland but i'm not going to
think that that's going to end up being uh what it is i appreciate the call i know it's a
collector's thing, but to pay that kind of money for something that keeps time, my phone does the
same thing. Okay. I'm glad you said that. I'm actually glad you said that. I have to tell you,
I've never been a watch guy. I've had people try to talk me into getting a nice watch, and my view is
kind of like yours. My phone keeps the time. Why would I need a watch? But like, you know, watches even now,
so I don't understand, Ryan, are you a watch guy? No, none of us are really. It's just like, it's a fashion
accessory not really something you really need to keep time anymore now you have a lot what is that
yours lights up okay well then that would be worth more to me if it if yours lights up i understand
what time you got i want to make sure mine's correct i have an apple watch at home it has been
in the box for six months i just don't have any interest in anything being on the arm well this one's
going to go for a lot who's next spencer is up next spencer go ahead spencer
sir. Hey, Matt, first time, long time. Who are? What's up? Well, I just want to give you a situation
I got going on related to tomorrow's game. And I want to know you guys' thoughts on these kind of things.
Yes, go quickly. So I've been in every blackout since I was about 11 or 12. I'm 23 now. Love the
South Carolina Grove Street game. A lovely girlfriend of mine sprung the great news that I was invited
to a wedding and Mount Sterling. Skip it. That will last all night.
Let me tell you something. This is easy.
if there's somebody in your life that schedule a wedding tomorrow on Big Blue Madness weekend
on arguably one of the best weekends of college football from a schedule perspective that there is all year
on a Keenland weekend on a beautiful October which might be the best month of the year weekend
they are asking you to skip their wedding and unless you're in it I say you tell your wife sorry I can't go
I feel you wholeheartedly I'll be there for Sunday's volleyball game volleyball coach
excited for that but uh breaking my heart man breaking my heart about the game so wait
minute you're you're not going to the game it's her uh it's a step sister so it's going to be
tough to miss that one not even her one but no you're still don't say that i didn't say that
don't say that i didn't first of all to be fair did he say it was a sister when he first said it
no i didn't say it was you got you got you do have to let me know if it's a sister because i do
think that changes things a little bit if it's a sister you got to go but you can yell at the bride
for the scheduling.
Hey, that's how I feel to.
All right, I appreciate the call.
UK Vandy, you think Brock Vandergriff, he's played better, probably every game this season.
Do you think he shows more improvement even tomorrow?
I do.
Yeah, you said he gets better every single game, kind of settling in a little bit.
He's found that relationship with Dane, so I think, you know, that's his go-to guy now.
They found a way to run the football without Chip-Train of being back there.
So this is a time of possession.
You know, we dominated time of possession against Ole Miss,
but Vandy dominated time of possession against Alabama.
This game could be where they're long drives on both sides.
Vandy is very susceptible to the pass.
Alabama, I think, threw on them, but their linebackers who were pretty good.
They're hurt.
Their secondary was considered their weak spot during the season.
They are very open to the past.
Dane and Berion should have a big game.
We need Brock to play well.
Well, I don't know if you've seen a calendar lately, but it is Brocktober.
It's our first game in Brocktober, and I'm expecting a breakout performance.
I think the Vandy's line shouldn't put too much pressure on them.
They'll be a big game from Kentucky's offensive line, like Dan said earlier,
which will allow Brock to have his big breakout.
And they're wanting to feed off having that big play to Barry on Brown.
You go into a by week.
You know, they're eager to get back out there.
Alabama was successful at taking shots down the field.
Yes, they were.
Big plays.
That's what Kentucky needs to do tomorrow.
Do you, if you're a Vandy fan, what are you most worried about about that game?
Kentucky's defense.
Okay.
I think that's it.
You know, how will Kentucky respond to the option that Vandy runs?
That offense is sort of unique in how they run it.
I mean, Alabama's giving up 75 points in the last two games.
75 points.
Kentucky's defense, they're not going to do that.
I mean, the most points they've got off of this year is really 21,
because 10 against South Carolina had nothing to do with them.
I think Kentucky's defense is why they win the game tomorrow.
When we come back, Travis Perry, new U.K.
Basketball player will join us.
We are here at Kentucky Branded.
This is KSR.
Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio.
Rick, where's my song from the 2000s, Rick?
It's right here.
What is this?
What is this?
What is this?
From 2009.
All right.
Well, there you guys.
I didn't know this song.
I'm jamming.
All right.
Travis Perry is here.
Everybody welcome him.
Travis, thank you very much.
You know, it's very rare that for before the
first Big Blue Madness they bring a freshman out but you're a little different because you're from
Kentucky a state champion Travis Perry how how exciting is it to what's happening tonight going to
big blue madness man it's it's super exciting I mean it's it's something that everyone in the state
I think is kind of tuned into and for us like especially all the guys on the team have never been
a part of it really so it's going to be super exciting I think the all the new stuff we've got with
the floor with the new teams. It's going to be awesome. But you've been. I mean, you've been to
what I mean, that's crazy. You've been to big blue madness as a fan. You've been to big blue madness as a
recruit and now you're a player. I mean, you talk about the American dream. Like, how cool is that?
That's really cool to be able to, you know, it's something you watch for forever and maybe think
you'll never be able to be a part of and then you get to come out and do it tonight. So it's,
it's really cool, really exciting. I will say I had a lot of trouble sleeping last night just being so
excited for us. So it's going to be awesome. That's awesome. That is very cool. So, you know, this team,
you know this. You're a long-time fan. Very different team than what Kentucky's had the last few years,
right? I mean, transfers, you got a team full of shooters. You know what Kentucky basketball has been
like. You know what this team is like. Tell fans who are like, what am I going to see this year?
What are they going to see with this basketball team? I think you're going to see a lot. I mean,
Obviously, the shooting is high caliber.
I mean, our three-point contest tonight, there's six guys in it, and it could go anyway.
Like, everybody can shoot.
It could go off and not miss a shot.
So that's something I think is really exciting.
Going to play fast, shoot a lot of threes.
The main thing I love about our team is how competitive we are.
Like, every day in practice, whether we're doing five-on-oh for whatever it is or five-on-five.
Like, it's so competitive.
And it gets salty at times, and that's something that you need.
Like, we really go hard.
We have intense practices, but the competitiveness is something that is on a whole other level of anything I've been a part of.
When Drew and I were there for Pro Day, it struck me that, all right, so you got 12 scholarship guys.
So you got a 1 through 12.
And I could see any of you guys playing.
And I know that, like, well, everybody said that.
But I really believe that's true.
I mean, I don't think the drop off from 1 to 12 is huge.
and I feel like all of you guys have a shot to play.
Do you agree with that when you watch practice and play practice?
I would definitely agree with that.
I think it's kind of a unique dynamic that we have.
Obviously, like the transfer portal has made it so different.
So all the maybe the nine guys that we got from the transfer portal were one, two, or three on their last team.
So they've led in that role.
And then our freshmen have learned to lead under them.
So I think we have a solid 12 guys that can come in and do different roles.
I think Coach Pope did a great job of assembling.
team that has common strengths but also can cover up each other's weaknesses.
So I think that's something that will really be evident on the floor that when I
line up.
When I hear Mark talk, he is relentlessly positive.
I mean, like, I feel like the guy's like you can't be that happy all the time.
But when the door is shut and practice is happening, what's he like?
Probably more positive than he is whenever he's on the radio.
It's honestly crazy how.
positive, energetic.
Like, it's crazy.
I've never seen anything like it.
Every day he comes in, whether it's 5.30 a.m., 8 p.m., whatever it is.
He's going to be positive.
He's going to be ready to have a good day.
And I think that kind of carries over for our team.
I think it's something to have energy every single day
and to come in joy and be excited to get better every day.
And he really instills that in us.
You know, you were the first guy to kind of commit to Coach Pope
when you recommitted to Kentucky.
When they were searching for the new coach,
what was your mindset?
Were you worried maybe the new coach?
wouldn't want you to come back,
and what was your first conversation with Coach Pope like?
Yeah, obviously, there's a lot of different things going through your mind.
Like, just so much uncertainty there.
You don't know who they're going to hire.
Like you said, you don't know if they're going to –
if the way that I played –
I heard the ovation you got.
If they were going back –
There was no way after that press conference you were coming.
Yeah, yeah, but you never know, like, whatever coach they can hire.
Obviously, I'm very glad they hired Coach Pope.
And then the first conversation I had with him,
I remember I was driving, and he's big on FaceTime.
He always FaceTime.
he never calls and had it connected to my car, was listening to some music, and he just starts
screaming, like, so loud. I had to turn the volume down to, like, so low, so I could just
even have a manageable conversation. But from the first conversation, he was exactly how he is,
energetic, excited to be here, and excited for what's to come. I find an interesting, Andrew Carr
being one of the leaders of the team, one of the older guys, you two kind of look like twins,
maybe a big brother there. But in talking earlier this week, you talked about how he'll just
step in with regular things in life, and he's like the dad on the team.
Let our listeners know a little bit about what he's doing behind the scenes.
He is. He does a lot.
You know, from the beginning, he's kind of, you know,
he's played college basketball for a long time,
but he has also done life for a long time, a lot longer than we have.
So I joke with him about that, that he's closer in age our coaches than I am to him.
But really, we get to, I do everything with him.
Like, he takes me to church all the time.
We go play golf together.
We have meetings with the coaches about finances all the time,
and he's talked to me about investing, like trying to,
to help me with that. So really anything there is to know about life, school, whatever it is,
he's there to kind of lead on. That's all you are doing investing. On the core, you all were going
at it in that pro day. You and Andrew back and forth. I don't think either of you missed.
We were. We actually talked about that the other day. Like I told him after it, I was like,
dude, like, I felt like I was shooting it pretty good, but I just couldn't miss because you had,
you were making. I saw you two. I tweeted this. You two went for four minutes back and forth,
and neither of you missed. I mean, it was, it was, it was. It was. It was. It was. It was.
unbelievable to behold. I mean, is that normal?
It really is.
We've got some guys that can shoot.
It's fun to watch.
Yes, sir.
So last year in the state finals, I love the state tournament last year. To me, it was what
Kentucky basketball is about, right? I mean, and then the state finals, you get Drew's
region. Yeah.
The second region against my region, the 13th region, in the finals, now the second region.
one, but whatever. But you all, you played against Trent Noah. And now you guys are on the same
team. What's that like? It's awesome. I mean, that's kind of like a storybook thing that I don't think
really anybody in the world gets to experience. You know, at the time of the state tournament,
we didn't really know it was going to happen. But, you know, he's been a guy that I've followed,
been friends with forever. And obviously the way that he came to Kentucky High School basketball,
he's such a great player and was. So it's exciting to be able to live out that dream with him, come,
have similar experiences, go through the same struggles, and have the same amount of fun with him up here.
I've said all year, like, it's hard.
I have no idea, honestly, like, how good you guys are going to be.
It's, like, hard to know.
I know you're going to be good, but it's hard for me to picture.
I know the goal in that locker room is win the national championship.
That's always the goal.
But in your heart, where do you feel this team is starting the season?
I think we're in a very good spot.
You know, obviously, for me, it's hard as well to know, like, how good we.
are compared to other college basketball teams just not having been a part of one before
but just the vibe that we kind of have the togetherness that we have I feel like that's
something that really translates to the court it'll be good to kind of get to test
against teams that are ourselves but I feel like we were very connected we have like I
said a lot of guys that have great strengths but also we have guys that strengths
cover up each other's weaknesses and I think that's big for us we're gonna have a lot
of depth and a lot of different lineups that we could go to so I think it's gonna be
a lot of fun and I think will be very successful.
All right, a lot of people know you, a lot of people
know Trent. We on this show have talked
a lot about Jackson, Robinson, Carr, and Brea.
So I'm going to get you to quickly tell me about some of the guys
that maybe people don't know as well. Tell me about
Otega A-O-A. Otega is
one of the best defenders I've ever played against.
Like, Lamont is an amazing defender. Everybody talks about his defense.
Otega can defend at the highest level as well.
Like, he's a match-up problem. And then
he was on my team all week this week
and just getting downhill. Like, he'll drive
and hit somebody with a shoulder and they'll just fall
down and he'll go up and dunk it. He's such a great player, but a great leader as well, a great teammate.
Brandon Garrison. Brandon's amazing. He's kind of a younger guy, was a McDonald's All-American,
so he can really play. But he's got a great motor, and I think that's something.
Good shot blocker, it seems like. Very great shot-blocker, very athletic, and I think that would be
important for us, him coming in and having a high motor, high energy. Amari Williams. Amari's a great
shot-blocker as well. He can really play. He can pass. He's a great pastor. That's something that's
important for our system, having Biggs that can pass him and Brandon can both pass the ball very well.
And he's just so physical, just a huge presence inside.
And then finally, and then I'll put you off the hook, Ansley-Almanor.
Anzley's an amazing shooter.
Like, he's knocked down.
He's in there getting 600 shots up every day at least.
Like, he really works hard and knows what it takes to be a great shooter.
And he really does that.
Part of that team that beat Purdue couple of years, right?
Part of that team.
Yeah, Fairley-Digginson team.
Travis, I said this to you when you won the, the, the state.
tournament. I came up to you and said, you know, you've had a spotlight on you since eighth grade,
right, in a small place in Kentucky with the whole state rooting for you. You know, we have our friend
Jamie Daniel who's from there. And so you've been in the bar over the years when you've played
and all that. And watching you hit all, like see all those expectations, meet them,
handle yourself the way you did, break the state scoring record, win the state.
championship and then get to play for Kentucky.
I'm not sure there's a better story in Kentucky basketball, period.
And now that you're going to get to do this, I'm immensely proud of you.
I know Big Blue Nation's proud of you, and I wish you nothing but the best of luck starting
tonight.
Yes, sir.
Thank you.
Thank you very much.

And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.

It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin.
And Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the
lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got to.

I'm Rick.
Ryan.
Whatever.
All right.
By the way, before you all leave, if you can, go out.
there and give blood.
And remember, for those of you driving around, they will be out here in front of Kentucky
branded.
You're able to give blood until 2 o'clock today.
Okay, so I told you about the blue-white game experience where you get to do all the
stuff.
You get to go to the pregame practice.
You get to meet the team.
You get to do the handshake.
You get to sit on the bench.
It's all this stuff.
We had one finalist yesterday.
I drew three names out of here.
The three names, I think all three of them didn't want to play themselves.
So they nominated somebody.
What's your name, sir?
Josh.
Josh, let's get this microphone here.
Josh, where are you from?
Somerset.
Somerset.
Speak up, Josh.
You're from Somerset.
Your friend picked you because he wasn't even supposed to be here,
so he couldn't be on the radio.
That's right.
He's working right now.
He's working.
That's okay.
I understand.
He's, quote, unquote, working.
All right.
You're from Somerset.
Do you feel confident about winning this prize?
No, I do not.
You do not.
Okay.
It's all right.
Josh from Somerset.
You're a bribe jumper or a maroon?
Maroon.
You're a maroon.
Okay, what's your name, sir?
Tim.
Tim, where are you from?
Originally East Bernstadt, now I live in Greenville, South Carolina.
Oh, so you're in town for the thing.
Okay, I love Greenville, South Carolina.
You miss East Bernstadt?
Yes, sir.
We rode by on the way up yesterday.
It was memories.
Now, you could get to come back here next week, if you get this.
Wouldn't that be exciting?
Well, if the road through North Carolina will allow it, yeah, I'll be back.
All right, sounds good.
Well, first you have to win.
We'll see.
All right.
What about you, sir?
I'm Garrett from Mount Washington.
Garrett from Bullitt County.
Here we go.
Now, your wife, girlfriend?
Wife.
Wife got picked, but she picked you to do it.
She was sitting out in the car, and I made her come in.
So she could be here.
Why was she in the car?
Hopefully she was listening to KSR.
Okay, that's what we'll hope.
I mean, she could have been here seeing it in person, but that's okay.
So give me it.
Tim.
Josh.
Josh, Tim, Garrett.
All right, here we go.
Here's the contest.
It is for the Blue White game.
presumably you all are big UK basketball fans.
The schedule with the times came out yesterday.
All you have to do is tell me the name of a team we play this year.
That's it.
Exhibition or regular season.
If you repeat one, somebody already said, you're out.
If you can't answer, you're out, or if you pick a team we don't play, you're out.
Let's get going.
Josh.
Louisville.
Louisville.
Tim.
Duke.
Duke.
Garrett.
Arkansas.
Arkansas.
Josh.
Ohio State.
Ohio State, Tim.
Clemson.
Clemson, Garrett.
Auburn.
Auburn. Josh.
Georgia.
Georgia, Tim.
Florida.
Florida, Garrett.
Alabama.
Alabama.
Josh.
Tennessee.
Tennessee.
Tim.
South Carolina.
South Carolina, Garrett.
North Carolina.
North Carolina?
No.
We do not play North Carolina this year.
Michaela, you should have played.
No, Garrett, you did a good job.
Did a good job.
All right.
Hang tight.
So, now that's Josh.
Tim. One of you two has a chance to have a dream experience with UK fans or at least be a finalist for it.
All the names have been said. Can't be said again. Josh.
Oklahoma. Oklahoma, yes. Kentucky Wesleyan.
Kentucky Wesleyan. Well done. Josh. Josh. Oh, gosh. LSU. LSU.
LSU, Tim. Gonzaga.
Gonzaga, here these guys are playing.
Josh, three, two, one.
Tim, if you can name one, you win.
Texas A&M.
Texas A&M and Tim.
We'll move on to the finals.
Tim, congratulations.
Be careful, I don't want to wear my wrist.
Josh, thank you very much.
Garrett, thank you very much.
Tim, give your information to Billy,
and congratulations you will be in the finals
and might have to drive back up here from Greenville.
again next week. There you go. Give these guys a round of applause. They did a good job.
It's one of the better performances, Ryan, that I've seen in one of these sort of on-the-spot
trivia. Because we see so many times you get these headsets on and your brain just freezes.
Your mouth freezes, your brain freezes, and you know the answer, you just can't think of it.
In that moment, those guys did a great job. My strategy would have been go right down the SEC
because you know you play all those teams, but then you figure out the non-conference after that.
But those guys overall did well. Overall, that was very well. Kentucky Wesleyan got thrown.
All kinds of stuff.
All kinds of stuff.
All right.
Quickly, who's up next?
Faith is up next.
Faith.
Go ahead, Faith.
First time, long time.
Who are?
What's up?
I'm just wondering, do you think that with Calipari gone that Doug shows is going to show us a little bit more mercy this year?
You had Doug Shows, you mean?
Yeah, Doug Shows.
It'd be interesting.
It'd be interesting to see, Drew, how we're treated by officials when our coach isn't screaming.
Does it make it better?
Does it make it worse?
I don't know what will happen.
Yeah, Mark, I'm sure we'll be out there complimenting them,
asking how their family's doing.
It would be a whole new experience.
You know, it would be interesting if he were maybe officiating the Kentucky Arkansas game.
Oh.
That would be interesting.
That's too late at night for him going to be by here.
All right, we're going to make our picks.
But first, Cornbread hemp,
