It is Tuesday, October 15th.
Ryan Lim and Drew Franklin and Shannon the dude here for Kentucky Sports Radio.
We'll be joining us here momentarily.
He's got the injured wrist, so he had to get his wrist checked out this morning,
but he'll be with us soon.
As always, Kentucky Sports Radio, sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office,

Yep.
Whiskey Thief call of the day.
The Whiskey Thief Call of the Day.
And the tweet of the day.
The Don Franklin Otto tweet of the day.
There we go.
The Don Franklin Otto tweeted the day.
I told you guys last night, I was trying to find some show topics.
I was struggling to find new, updated show topics kind of like we do in the summer.
They're a little rusty.
Because everything I want to talk about we've already talked about yesterday.
We talk about some more.
It's okay.
We're going to have to.
So here's what I'm going to start with this.
This is the exact midpoint of the season.
Three and three.
Most people probably had us, I think, probably at four and two.
So it's not that much off.
But the fact that two of your three losses were at home to South Carolina and Vanderbilt,
and you stunk in both of those games,
that's why it seems like three and three is a lot worse than three and three should be.
When you played only 12 games in the season, only one game makes the world of a difference.
So I feel like that's kind of where we're at right now.
I mean, I had it at 4-2 at this point.
I believe I did, too.
Shannon, do you remember?
Yeah, 4-2 is what I believe I had.
I think we all had 4-2 at this point.
Losing Ole Miss in Georgia.
Okay, so now what's our record after the next six games in?
Oh, boy.
Because it's Kentucky football, I fully expect them to win in Gainesville.
Yes.
Like, I'm...
Yes.
I know I was confident they'd beat Vandy.
It's a little different.
But just because that's exactly what they do, right when we've decided what they are,
they go and doing the exact opposite.
We know how well they play on the road.
They seem to play well in Gainesville here lately.
They've had Florida's number.
I actually expect them to win Saturday, even though I'm about as down on stooping
and Kentucky football as I've been in many years.
I think they're going to win.
So then go ahead.
Are you just doing my schedule?
Play out your next six games.
So I want to see what our record is these next six games.
I don't want to sound like I'm a sunshine pumper here because it's pretty bad right now, but Auburn kind of sucks.
Yes.
So I think they'll win that one too.
I'll just say they'll lose to Texas and Tennessee.
I'm sticking with my original predictions.
My confidence levels just way down.
So you say they're four and two.
That way they would finish seven and five.
They'll beat Florida. They'll beat Auburn.
They'll beat Murray State.
And just because it's Kentucky, they'll beat Louisville like they did last year.
to put a little lipstick on an ugly, ugly year.
So would you be okay with that?
Losing to South Carolina and Vandy is a double-digit home favorites.
That's a tough pill to swallow.
And, you know, we've been over the numbers.
Two and ten in the last 12 home games, whatever it is out of by weeks.
You know, there's bigger problems than just a one-off losing to Vandy.
So I would still be disappointed with that.
But I do think they're going to respond this week, right?
When everybody's throwing them aside,
wonder if they'll make a bowl game or win another SEC
game. I expect to see the pictures we saw two years ago of maybe Dane in the crowd, Mark Stoops,
the never back down video walking out at Gainesville. It's going to happen again because that's how it
works. Shannon, what about you? Yeah, I agree with Drew. I mean, I can see Kentucky bouncing back and
beating Florida. They're three and three like Kentucky is. Auburn's terrible this year. I originally
had, before we start the season, Kentucky beating Tennessee. I don't think that's going to happen now.
and I think that you probably lose to Texas.
Still feel like Kentucky can be lovable, though.
I don't know if that's me just being biased,
but I still feel like Kentucky can get the seven wins.
I just don't think that's good enough for the fans at this point,
especially when eight looked like it was very doable going into last weekend.
I'm with you guys, the fact I think they'll finish four and two.
But for me, I will be happy with that.
When I started thinking about this topic,
and I'm thinking to myself, if they win four, their next six,
I'm going to be excited.
I mean, I'm back on board thinking
that we're not in as much trouble
as we perceive to be as of right now
after losing the home to Vanderbilt.
Like you said, at Florida, they've had good success down there.
Florida's not playing very good.
It's a train wreck.
Auburn coming up here.
That's the thing is you can't lose another home SEC game.
You can't.
You have to meet Auburn.
Getting the Ole Miss win was huge.
It was huge.
You know, that's the difference, I think,
in maybe getting the seven and six.
or if we only get to six, that's the difference in being bowl eligible.
So that win was huge.
Now, what about the Tennessee game?
Tennessee hasn't scored a point in the first half their last two games.
There's different-looking Tennessee.
They've had to grind it out.
Yes.
They've got a phenomenal running back.
He's one of the best in the country.
What game do we play the best, Kentucky?
I grind it out.
I hear you.
I feel like you woke up on the right side of the bed today.
You're back on board.
You got us beaten Tennessee.
I feel like I need a little more time before I match your enthusiasm.
Like I said, I think they'll bounce back to Texas and Tennessee, I don't know about.
But I think they're just lucky that Florida and Auburn are down as bad as they are.
Yes. Florida's starting quarterback, Graham Mertz, is out for the season, although some Florida fans were ready to make a change.
So you're going to be facing DJ Lagway.
I think it's his second start.
He started a game earlier this year.
So you have Florida and Auburn in a good spot.
You're just not in a good spot going into those games.
I'm not as excited as you.
I'm still hurt.
Shannon, like I said, the more I thought about this, the more
excited I got about what still is yet to come. What if I say, like what we just laid out,
and then we say, okay, yeah, Vandy's just a lot better than we all thought. That's true.
And I think that's true. Vandy, believe it or not, it's only a couple of plays away from being
undefeated. Vandy should have beat Missouri. And then I don't know, they lost about four points
to the Georgia State. I don't know what happened there. But it came down to like a last play.
So, I mean, that's, yeah, they are a lot better. Nobody's giving them credit for that, but they are.
If Vandy beat number one Alabama and Missouri was like what,
sixth or seventh when they had them beat.
Right.
So what if Missouri, we just didn't give Vandy enough credit?
Then we go out and win four more next X and including that win over Louisville
in the last game of the year, I go into the offseason like I did last.
Like you said, putting lipstick on a bad season.
That's exactly how I'm going to feel this year.
I'm not ready to give Vandy much credit.
I mean, there were 12 penalties.
We had a guy that couldn't keep his shoes on that I'm sure we'll get to.
We got Stoops just awful out of bow.
weeks. That's a bigger problem than just whatever is happening this week and next week. I'm very
disappointed in the way they played Saturday. I don't know. Yeah, I mean, Vandy's fine, but Kentucky
should have won that game. They outgained them. They had so many opportunities, as Matt said on his
postgame show, if you just clean it up and don't shoot yourself in the foot, that game should have
been a win. A lot of fans right now, you see it on social media, they are, they have us at five and
seven, not even being bowl eligible. Well, fans, we overreact, overreact.
act a little bit.
Well, usually for 24 hours, but we wouldn't put yourself that 24-hour rule.
I mean, when they beat Ole Miss, I think people were not think, people were saying the
playoffs.
Talking playoffs.
Not much has changed since then, except you've had a bad game against Vandy.
Now it's back to Will they make a bowl game.
Back to make a ball game, they still have seven wins out there, I think.
And if you get back to seven, it's just enough to keep fans hanging on for the next season, right?
And I'm right there.
I think I am right there hanging one of those fans right there for sure.
You know, if we were to get to, you know, eight or nine, which isn't going to happen.
But, you know, if we did before the season, we would be talking, oh, let's build the statue.
Then if we get to, like, five or six, it's, oh, let's fire stoops.
But seven is right there in the middle just enough to get us, you know, still on board for next season.
Now, we want to hear from you.
What do you think?
How do you think they're going to finish these next six games?
859-280-287.
You did mention the shoe gate story that broke yesterday.
It's the biggest headline in Kentucky right now.
Jamarion Wilcox, red shirt freshman running back.
Every time he touches the ball, seems to pick up a first down.
Very explosive.
A guy that has become number two behind Demi Sumo Carme.
Stoops kind of threw him under the bus yesterday.
He had said, somebody asking, why is he on the field more?
And Stoops said, well, learn how to tie your shoes.
Tie your shoe and you can stay on the field more.
It was a blunt, honest answer.
I don't really think they threw him under the bus.
It was just an honest answer.
There's a lot more to Stoop saying.
that than just a tied shoe. The fact that Stoops is comfortable enough to say in a press conference,
Wilcox didn't tie his shoes, just tell you how bad it is behind the scenes with him.
He's called him out saying he needs to mature. I just think the kid's not doing what he needs
to be doing on the sideline. When he gets the ball in the game, we've seen it.
I mean, he's been great, but there's a reason he's not getting many looks, and I think everything
else, meetings, practice, keeping your shoes on, he's just not doing it. And it's gotten to the point
because you don't normally call a kid out like that.
I think Stoops had seen enough that the shoe was the last straw.
So even though that's a big quote,
and that's one I think we'll talk about with Kentucky football for a long time.
Occasionally things happen where you're like,
yeah, that's going to get reference for a decade.
I think he can't tie his shoes is one that's going to linger.
But it's more about the shoe.
It's a lot of just Wilcox not doing what he needs to be doing
to earn more playing time.
I've never heard a coach ever one time say,
tie your shoe, learn how to tie your shoe.
And if he's trying to play SEC,
football and he's not tied his shoes what is wrong with him and it was a big part in the game
that's the end of the half where they gave up the touchdown i mean he breaks a 15-yard run
has to go out because the shoe comes off i mean then they three straight in completions and have to
punt it was a it seems like it's a big deal the way stoop's made it out to be but it's an even
bigger deal that it's to the point that he can call him out does it go i mean i've heard that
they willcox will get in the huddle and i just absolutely does not know the play and they're
kind of having to hold his hand with little things he's just he's just
He's just not doing what he needs to be doing.
And the shoe was a last straw.
Now, with him, he's the number two guy.
They could have some success.
They need him.
They could use him.
Yeah, he's averaging five or six yards of carry.
But that's, you got to do the little things.
I mean, that's the littlest thing.
We learn that in kindergarten.
I know it.
And I know, you know, it's a cool, hip thing for the young kids.
My uncle probably back itself.
They don't, they don't tie their shoe a lot of time.
The shoes are designed where you don't tie your shoe.
Yeah, but he's not walking around campus.
These are cleats.
That's the thing, man.
Tape it up.
Yeah.
Don't they wrap their shoes anyway?
How's the shoe come off?
That's the thing.
Go see the trainer.
Off the field, do whatever you want.
You don't have to wear shoes if you don't want to.
I wouldn't even care what kind of shoes you wear.
But on the field, you've got to tie your shoes.
Does it all go back to the lack of discipline?
Yes.
Yes.
Yes, it does.
Stoops has never called out players as much as he has this week.
He was at a loss for words on Saturday.
as to what goes wrong out of buy weeks and at home.
He even wondered out loud, like, are the families asking for too many tickets?
He was that far down the list of what could be distracted.
It's clear he doesn't have any answers.
So things like little mistakes like that, he's kind of telling us, look, I am trying to prepare these guys.
And the most basic things you would expect them to do on their own without me holding their hand,
some of them aren't doing it.
859-2-8-7.
That's Clark Publishop phone number one.
Take your call.
How do you think they'll finish the next six games?
We also got to talk about a snake that showed up in the Major League Baseball playoffs last night.
I got a lot to talk about.
So stick around.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth,

Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.

American soccer is about to explode.
The World Cup is coming.
Ramos sending on to Ernie Stewart.
I'm Tad Ramos.
I'm Tom Boe.
On our podcast, inside American soccer, you'll get the real storylines.
I'm not worried about Policic.
I'm not worried about Balligan.
I'm not worried about McKinney.
My only concern is what happens in the back.
The biggest decisions.
If you're going to look at stats and numbers,
he has no shot at making this World Cup team.
and the truth about the U.S. national team.
It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals
or potentially a great run into the semifinals.
The World Cup is almost here.

on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, wherever you get your podcast.
What's up, fam, it's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast, Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs,
without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows.
Without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis
on offense.
And when IT's friends stopped by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get to flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers,
why he got the ball.
Like, you go through a training camp with that, I said,
you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app,

Hey, everyone.
It's Ryder Strong and Will Ferdell from PodMeet

I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners by our severe lack of survivor knowledge.
That is the point of the show.
I'm just going to remind you.
I have watched some Survivor.
I obviously haven't watched enough.
Did people not like it?
Like what was just because we?
Yeah.
We'll be recapping the big conclusion in the 50th season from the final attempts at gameplay

Again, we are experts.

All right, welcome back.
Kentucky Sports Radio.
Ryan Drew Shannon, joined now by Billy R. Sports, wearing his new Western
Kentucky Hill Topper shirt with the big eyeballs on the back.
Hey, Ryan.
The topper googly eyes are on the back of the hoodie.
That's really why I'm here is just to show you this new hoodie I got.
It's good hoodie.
I had to donate to the Western NIL fund to get this hoodie.
And it was everywhere.
Those big red eyes was on college game day.
Absolutely they were.
That helmet was everywhere.
So it's taken over.
You give it like Patino money?
What are we talking?
Oh, no, not Patino money.
Not on this two-mamosas salary here.
But you know what?
It was a healthy chunk, and I'd like to see Kentucky, you know, kind of mix it up and throw things out there like Western has.
They have some denim shorts or some denim jerseys?
Exactly, yeah.
People get behind that.
They'll pay for stuff like that.
Our topic this morning to start with was, what do you think Kentucky's record will be in their next, the last six games?
Yeah, and I was listening, and I was surprised that all of you guys picked Kentucky to win a home SEC game in Auburn.
I mean, I just can't do that right now, so I think I'm looking at three and three.
Are you?
I've kind of changed my opinion a little bit on the Louisville game.
because I originally picked Louisville to win that one, but they look bad.
I mean, their defense looks really bad.
So I think Kentucky will be motivated for that one.
We could pull that out, but I can't pick Kentucky to win a home SEC game moving forward until they start to winning them.
Okay, there's on the A Vision Glass Text Machine.
You guys answer this question.
What's the most likely scenario?
We went out losing only to Texas or we only win against Murray State in Louisville.
Wow.
Hmm.
What's the most likely?
likely scenario.
So 5 and 1 or 2 and 4?
Five.
You know, I hate to say 5 and 1 after all the mistakes they made.
Tennessee's not the same beast that I thought that they were.
I was trying to tell that to Drew.
They haven't scored a point in the first half their last two games.
So much of last Saturday was just Kentucky doing it to themselves, beating themselves up.
If they can clean it up, I can't believe I'm talking myself into this.
It's going to turn around.
In that scenario, you presented, I think, I think five of the first.
one's more likely, but I don't like where we're going with it.
I want to still be mad a little bit longer.
I need to be grumpy just a few more days, but I will say five and one.
Shannon?
You're turning me here.
Yeah, I hate to be the pessimist, but I think two and four is more likely than five
and one.
But I think four and two is more likely than all of them.
So if you're giving me one or the other, though.
You're saying the two wins are just the last two games, Murray State and Louisville.
If you're giving me this scenario, I mean, again, the most likely to me is four and two.
So, but if you're saying 5 in 1 or 2 and 4, I'd probably have to go 2 and 4.
Yeah, really?
Yeah, I'd probably go 2 and 4.
It's funny how fickle a fan base can be.
I mean, you had the program-changing win at Ole Miss,
maybe the best of Stoop's tenure, and now it's back to, you know, what are we doing here?
859-2-802-287.
Who's our first caller, Shannon?
Let's go to Parker.
Parker.
Parker.
Hey, my question for you, Matt, or Matt's not on the show right now,
but what do you think about the quarterback situation?
And what do you think about playing both these guys right now?
Good question, Parker.
Thank you.
Appreciate the phone call.
I'm starting to hear a lot of that, you know.
Wimson comes in basically just to run the Wildcat and try to pick up three, four,
five yards a carry.
He did chuck one down the field against Vanity the other night.
What's your feeling about the two quarterbacks they're using right now?
You know, Wimson made that good throw, and I'd like see him in the red zone where they struggle,
but I did not like how they were going to him so early.
It just kind of felt like, what are we trying?
We're just trying everything.
You know, you want Vandergriff to get a little bit of rhythm,
and here it is first quarter,
and we've got Wimson taking so many snaps.
It just, I don't know, they would know better than me either in the moment,
but I feel like that was just throwing off Kentucky's rhythm
in a game when they never really got going.
I would have just let Vandigriff be the quarterback
until you really needed Gavin in a package.
I mean, I like the change of pace every now and then,
but they're running the ball fine with their backs, right?
I mean, even without Gavin Wimpsett,
Jamirian Wilcox, when he ties his shoes, has been great.
I mean, Demi Sumo Carme is another guy that I think has exceeded expectations of some early on.
So, you know, why not give it to your backs more often?
I think we've been yearning for that.
But, you know, occasionally I do like a little change of pace.
And Gavin has shown that he deserves some playing time.
I think obviously he's talented enough to be thrown in there.
I like to see him at the 10-yard line when they're trying to score.
I just thought they went to him a little too early.
I didn't really know what the objective was there.
Because the ball made a good throw.
It was like at midfield and they ran it out there.
Usually they do save him until they get in the red zone a little bit.
And I just wonder what that does for Vandergriff's confidence,
where he's trying to take another step forward and you're subbing out for your backup to come in and run a few times.
Now the fact that they did roll, whims it out, and he chucked one down the field.
That looks all right. That's probably what they need to do more of it.
They're going to utilize him because every time he comes in, defense says no, it's just this is Lynn Bowden back there.
It's going to run the wildcat and he's going to run it.
It was good that they showed he'll throw it.
So now teams moving forward that watch the tape know that that's a possibility that they put that out there.
I mean, it's mostly going to be runs, but he made a good play on that.
And they'll have to respect that moving play.
I agree.
859-2-8-7.
Who's next, Shannon?
Dave.
Dave.
Dave, go ahead, Dave.
Hey, guys.
How y'all doing?
All right, how are you, Dave?
I'm doing, all right.
I got a simple solution for the football team.
All right, go ahead.
You're cutting out a little bit.
Go ahead.
All right.
I said I have a simple solution for the football team.
All right.
Quit playing home games.
Appreciate your fun.
phone call. That's why I think this Auburn game coming up in two weeks is huge. You can't
lose three SEC home games in a season and when really you probably, you were a double-digit
favorite in the first two. They'll probably be favorite against Auburn. You're right about
double-digit favorite and tip of the cap to Vandy because they're having a great year and they
beat Alabama, but you lose to Hugh Freeze. A struggling team. Like Vandy is probably better than we
all thought. South Carolina maybe is better than we thought going into the season, but Auburn is
really struggling. I mean, it's stupid. It's obvious.
He doesn't have the answers, so I mean, we can't give the answers if he doesn't know.
But he has to figure out why they're so bad and so undisciplined at home.
He brings up maybe they're playing too free.
They're too loose.
Got friends in town, home crowd.
They might be trying to show a lot a little bit, do a little too much and not stick into their assignments.
I mean, he's throwing out every possible thing.
But he has to figure it out because it is spanning years of coming out of bi weeks and now playing at home
where they just look like a completely different football team.
Maybe it's when they're on the road.
we've talked about before.
He's so good at getting his team, getting that mentality, us against everybody here.
You know, they love being the road team.
We've seen him win so many games.
That doesn't mean you can look so bad at home.
He has to figure out what's off there, and it's in the preparation because we saw it right away with penalties and mistakes on that first drive.
That's why I feel good about the game at Florida.
I mean, I know yesterday everybody was down and I was still mad about the vandy loss,
but yet now Florida coming up, they're on the road.
Florida is struggling.
I feel good about it.
Yeah, Kentucky's had some success against Florida over these last.
few years, especially in the swamp.
You know, former players have called out a void of leadership on the players recently.
And, you know, Dumae Johnson was talking about how I'm just not used to this, right?
He's just not used to.
We've got to figure this out quick because we didn't do that at Georgia very much.
So, yeah, I mean, it's head scratching.
Like Drew said, this is not just this last year.
It would be out of buy weeks, home games over the last few years.
It's, there's been the common denominator has been stoop.
To his credit, they respond well usually when they have a horrible performance.
They really do.
And you're going to Florida.
You've won, what, three in a row against Florida?
I think so.
It's crazy to say out loud.
And two out of three in Gainesville.
You know, they're not going to be too intimidated by this atmosphere.
They know how bad they looked at home in a perfect atmosphere.
Coverfield's never looked better for a Vandy game.
They know they dropped the ball.
So I actually do expect them to respond well, even though there are some serious issues with the program.
Got a couple lines open.
859-2802-287.
You want to call and get on board.
Shannon, we've got to talk baseball for Matt gets here because I don't know if we'll talk about it once he gets here.
Okay.
But are you watching the playoffs?
Yeah, yeah.
I'm kind of in a weird way.
I'm not really a Yankees or a Mets fan,
and I'm kind of rooting for a Subway Series.
Well, right now, Dodgers Mets are 1-1,
and the Yankees are ahead of the Guardians 1-0.
So it's just getting started.
But last night at the Dodgers game,
Shannon, you played.
We've seen cats run on the field, rabbits, squirrels.
I think even if there was a game of skunk got on the field.
There was a raccoon, I think.
A raccoon.
Maybe at a football game.
I was at Monday night football when a cat ran out.
It ran like the length of the field.
I went crazy.
Oh, yeah.
I've seen that video like, he hit the 10, the 5.
Cound Boys Giants.
They did that with a squirrel, too, at a Louisville game.
Yeah.
Last night, a snake was on the field.
A snake?
Well, it was in the dugout.
In the dugout.
In the dugout.
In the dugout.
A snake.
Shannon, how does that happen?
I don't know.
I guess snakes are just hanging out at the stadium.
Somebody should have told the Diamondbacks.
they're already out of the playoffs.
I don't know.
That's crazy.
But I'm telling you, out of all the animals we just talked about that have run on the field,
that would be the one I would be least likely to remove myself.
I would rather go after a squirrel, a rabbit, a raccoon, before I would pick up a snake.
Oh, it depends on the snake.
I mean, if you know your snakes, you're fine.
I don't know my snakes.
I don't know if it's dangerous.
Yeah, there's some harmless garden snakes.
You just go and pick up.
This is playoff baseball, too.
I think you set the tone in the dugout.
That's right.
down and grab it and throw it.
Well, I saw it.
They'll just fling it at the crowd.
I was reading some stuff online where they think
somebody brought that snake into the stadium.
Like, what do you do? Do you hide it in your pocket?
Yeah, how do you get that? That person's crazy.
It's like the hockey fans that bring in an octopus?
Yes. A catfish. They've got to sneak it in somehow.
Well, I've never seen that. A snake ended up in the dugout last night.
And then it kind of jinx the Dodgers.
Met's one last night.
I was pretty excited in the Yankees game.
A video of Taylor Swift went viral.
And friend of the program, Adam Lefko, sitting right in front of her.
Oh, I didn't get that.
booth. So everybody's focus on Travis and Taylor, I just looked right next to them. That's our friend
Adam. No kidding. I thought that was while. I went, of course, with Taylor, went viral, but he was the
main star in the video. Adam Lefcoe, former KSR host, I think, one time, wasn't he? Hanging with
celebs. All right, well, take our break. Come back, 859-2802-287. This is KSR.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T. TJ. He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Shannon doing Matt Dirty playing that song while he's not here yet.
It's okay.
A little Tom T. Hall.
Welcome back.
Ryan, Drew, Shannon, and Billy R. Sports here, Kentucky Sports Radio.
Before we go to the phone line, SEC basketball media day today, right?
We're going to hear from Mark Pope.
Big day down at SEC Media Days.
You know, they came out with the media poll yesterday.
Kentucky was picked eighth.
What are all these idiots in the conference doing voting?
What's eighth, guys?
Eighth?
We all kind of went through it the other day.
there's like four or five really good teams.
I'm all right with fifth, six.
Yes.
I think that's probably more right.
Fourth, fifth, six, somewhere in there.
Yeah.
Jackson Robinson got some all-SCC recognition.
But, yeah, today they'll be doing their interviews.
If anyone cares, Cal will be speaking.
You know he'll be asked a lot about Kentucky, so we'll keep an eye on that.
But it's talking season for basketball right before they get it started here in a couple weeks.
Eighth in the poll, but nine teams are in the top 25 in the SEC, I think.
So, I mean, that's just maybe indicative of how deep the conference is.
Yeah.
And not knowing what to expect with what Kentucky's going to have.
So what Kentucky was preseason 23 in the AP preseason poll came out yesterday, right?
That seems about maybe about right, maybe a little low, but somewhere in there.
Yeah, I said this before, and I don't want to sound like a loser mentality.
I would prefer to be ranked in the top five.
But it will be refreshing to try to climb for once instead of starting the year at one or two
and just watching ourselves fall.
I don't want to do this every year.
I would rather be number one.
But it will be a nice experience to see,
hey, let's see if we can win a few earlier in the year
and see what ranking we can get to.
Well, you're climbing if you're in the Ken Palm
because they were 42nd in that ranking, Ryan.
So while we're talking basketball,
the Acad and Lewis visit apparently went very well
while he was here over the weekend for madness.
Had a gigantic birthday cake.
That thing was massive.
Did you see that picture?
The cake game has improved from that cookie
that someone wrote UK with their opposite hand
a year or two ago and now
I don't know if that was a Jeff
Rubies or a brandy project
but that cake was massive and had to have helped
and all indications were
that everything went very well, Billy,
with his visit. Well, we laugh but I bet
you that stuff means a lot to these kids
in the NIL era. What are you going to give me?
And if a cookie cake like that is
that what's to come,
maybe you're not, you don't belong in Kentucky
if that's what you care about but I bet you
it does matter to 17 year olds.
And he got to, he was the only visitor, you
A lot of times they're sharing the spotlight.
Yes, that's a good point.
Have all these conversations.
Give them all their one-on-one time.
It was all about him all weekend.
He was at madness.
He even recorded a pretty cool video of him just at Rupp and in UK gear.
And then I assume he did the football game.
I haven't seen that.
But by all reports, it went very well, and he was already leaning UK's way anyway.
It makes a difference.
You're the only guy there that can focus all their attention on you and your family and talk to you.
Probably got to meet Rick Petino.
Probably did.
859-2802-287.
That's our Clark's Publish.
I have phone number. So who we got next, Shannon?
Double J. Double J. Go ahead, Double J.
Hey, guys. Two things. First,
grew up in the Patino area, listening to him, watching him and everything.
Seeing him go to Louisville, like, rip my heart out and everything.
But March Madness, with him coming out, how emotionally he got,
like, it does make me have that whole hero mentality and respect him and everything.
second of all I'm a you know season ticket holder for football and this whole pony up thing with
stooops like we are ponying up we are out there standing until we watch the other team leave
the field with their head hell high while we're over there wondering what's going on and I think
you know whoever it is that's out there causing these penalties and everything there needs to be
some accountability like we need to have a coach that's going to be able to say I know you're
playmaker we need you out there but you can't keep doing what you're doing and causing us
yards after yards we need to have you sit down for a couple of plays and get your head right
and then get back out there appreciate it appreciate the phone call I mean I went something we
talked about a lot yesterday the just a lot of the penalties too were awful times when you're on
the four inch line and you get a penalty after barion breaks this big return and you get another
penalty that brings it back 35 yards whatever it was and danes penalty of course that was a bad one
There's just things that have happened throughout that game that, well, not just that game, most of the season.
Makes you scratch your head.
Like, where's your head at?
You know, we were just talking during the break with a listener here.
Like, you can tell right away, Barry on the opening kickoff, kind of getting an extra shot in and jawing after the play.
There was just so much of that, and it looked like Vandy was baiting them into it.
It's kind of how Dane got caught.
That guy was jaunt with Dane and he pops them in the back of the head.
You got to keep your cool there because those are so costly, and they found a way to do them at the most inopportune times against Vander.
built. We'll never know how many yards it truly cost them, but it's a lot more than the
106 or whatever the box score said. And losses and lack of discipline, I think, resonate more
in the NIL era when fans are actually paying players to a degree, right? So maybe I think,
tell me if I'm wrong, Ryan, maybe fans think even more so now that they should play better
and have even less patience if you're actually contributing to a fund that's paying these guys.
I think there's a little truth to that. You know, you're more invested in the team because you're more
invested financially in the program, I think there's a little true to that.
Yeah, even if you're not giving money, you can, at least people feel they can be a little more
critical because these are professionals.
Now, they're getting paid to play the game.
And if I were a booster that was given a lot of money, yeah, I'd really feel entitled
for them to play well because it's coming out of my pocket.
859-2-287.
Who's next, Shannon?
Poppy.
Poppy.
Go ahead, Poppy.
Hi, guys.
How you doing?
Good.
How are you, Poppy?
Good.
doing great. Listen, I'm Poppy the Granddad, not Poppy, the restaurant owner.
We love poppies on the show. Yeah, I got to get down to Lexington and eat there.
Two quick things. Years ago, I was a volunteer coach on a freshman basketball team,
and I learned from the head coach there that back in the day, John Wooden, the great John Wooden,
the very first thing he did every year with his new team is sat him in the locker room
and taught them how to tie their shoes.
Yep.
Put on their socks and they can tie their shoes.
That's true.
Yeah.
Okay, so that is true.
Yeah, I had always heard that.
And then the other thing I just learned in life,
haven't been a granddad,
eight grandkids, three sons,
all turned out to be good people.
Young people tend to live up or down to your expectations
as long as you hold them accountable.
If they have rewards,
when they do well,
they keep doing well.
If you hold them accountable and there are consequences, you know, if they don't do things right,
they tend to correct those things then.
So what do you think of that?
And then I'll listen off here.
Okay, Poppy, appreciate the phone call.
What do you think, Drew?
Well, you're the expert.
I don't have any young ones.
Yeah, how did you discipline your children, Rand?
Well, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't work.
You know, a little Josiah just got in trouble a couple weeks ago, and I told him.
I said, look, everybody makes mistakes.
You just got to learn from your mistakes, mistakes, and not make the same mistake again.
Because, you know, we all make mistakes growing up when we're young.
I have one son, obviously, who made some really bad, big mistakes, and he's paying for it.
So there has to be consequences, whether it's mistakes at home, mistakes at school, or mistakes on the football field.
Yeah, and as we said, Stoops with this last one, I've never heard him put it as much on the players.
I mean, he's still taking the blame, but he said in these meetings, I said everything.
I could think of to get these guys prepared.
Knowing my history with by weeks and how poorly we've been at home lately,
he said, I did everything I could think of to drill it into their heads before the game,
and they still just came out and looked the way he did.
So, I mean, basically, I mean, calling them out without, you can't directly call them out when you're in his shoes,
but that's the closest he's been to calling them out.
They're just not doing what they're supposed to be doing.
Yeah.
I mean, they're at practice every day.
Maybe they don't have the depth, and they know that.
And a lot of these guys have to stay on the field because they don't have SEC caliber
players at other positions. You know, I'm just curious, Ryan, at what age did you learn to tie your shoes?
It seems to me like that was a kindergarten thing, right? I think it's about a kindergarten thing.
I was thinking like six years old. Yeah, that's about right. Kindergarten, first grade, somewhere in there,
and you tie your shoes every single day, especially if you're going out to play a football game or a baseball game,
you're going to tie her shoes. I think Wilcox has NIL opportunities out of this. I know now's not the
time to be talking about NIL when he's made a mistake like that, but he's a big talking about. He's a big talking
point around college football in Kentucky right now.
I think there's a Velcro shoe deal out there waiting for him.
Foot lockers got to hear this and jump.
I like him.
I like his game and with, you know, Chip chain him out and then Patterson got hurt.
I mean, we're kind of that running back room is kind of thin, so, you know, they need him.
I really want more of him, and a lot of that's on him, as we've learned, and what he needs to do off the field.
But, I mean, going into that game on our football podcast, Luckett and Rouse, we were all
talking about how this is an opportunity for Wilcox, and it took him a little while.
to get a look against Vandy, but he looked great.
And then the shoe comes off and he's getting called out on Monday.
Let's get one more call on, Shannon from we take a break.
Who we got?
Patrick.
Patrick, go ahead, Patrick.
Hey, good morning, guys.
I just got two quick things when basketball won football.
The other guy mentioned Patina a little bit.
I'm 29 years old, so, you know, my former years of Kentucky basketball really started
when Cal came aboard.
I remember, you know, a little bit before him, but when Cal came aboard, I really started
to love Kentucky basketball, sorry.
you know, really started to enjoy it, which meant I hated Petino.
But it was very, very cool to see him get his moment and rub, and the fans love him.
And I recognize the history he has with Kentucky basketball.
So it was very cool to see him at that moment.
I was proud of him for that.
So that's the first thing.
And the second thing is the football.
Matt mentioned Chip and Max
Well, Harrison, they're not going to play anymore this year.
And I was just curious if you guys knew why that was
and could give insight to that at all if you're able to.
So I'll hang up and listen.
I appreciate it.
Well, I know with Chip, it's got that broken wrist.
There's a bone in his wrist, and it's just not healthy enough
where they feel confident with him hanging on to the football
and they get their strength back then and then they're rich.
Harrison is a shoulder, right?
Is it a shoulder?
Yeah, train him.
They keep telling us he's close.
It may have even re-agravated it recently,
but I think Stoops even said this week.
getting closer and closer.
Hopefully he's not too far away.
Harrison, I don't know anything specific,
but just seems like the overall tone is not too positive
about how quickly he'll be back,
that it's going to be a longer issue.
Drew is right, though.
Stoves keeps hinting at Chip Train and possibly making a return.
He did it again last night and said that he's hopeful
that he gets on the field this week in practice,
and then we'll see where he's at.
Look, you mean.
Yeah, this is a broken hand.
I think he might be aggravated it.
Yeah.
You may be shocked.
I'm not a doctor, but I know there's that bone in your,
connects your wrist to your hand, aphoid bone, aphoid bone.
Okay.
That takes like a year to heal.
Like it's like really slow healing.
A year would be a long time.
That looks exactly where Matt's got his stitches.
Matt's at that bone doctor right now.
Should we just call them in?
No, but Harrison, it doesn't sound positive.
It doesn't sound positive.
Whatever's going on there.
859-2802-287.
Before we take a break, a little shout out to Brian Hudson,
former Scott County Cardinal, played his college football at Virginia Tech.
and then ended up at Louisville.
Big UK recruit for a long time.
Just signed to the New England Patriots Practice Squad.
So he's getting a chance in the NFL.
So I want to give him a shout out one of our local guys.
All right, well, take our break.
Come back, 859-280-2287.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped.
up in the chase, that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you
hear on earth.
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

What's up, fam?
It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast, Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin.
And Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the
lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got it.
at the bar like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real
quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your

I'm not worried about Policicic, I'm not worried about Balagan, I'm not worried about McKinney.
My only concern is what happens in the back.
The biggest decisions.
If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team.
And the truth about the U.S. national team.
It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals.
The World Cup is almost here.
Experience it all with us.

We're two men who were completely clueless to reality TV,
who now have covered Dancing with the Stars, traitors,
and we're gearing up for the season finale of Survivor.
So yeah, now we're experts.
I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners by our severe lack of Survivor
knowledge. That is the point of the show. I'm just going to remind you. I have watched some
Survivor. I obviously haven't watched enough. Did people not like it? Like what was just because we?
Yeah. We'll be recapping the big conclusion in the 50th season from the final attempts at gameplay
to the desperate pleas of finalists to a bunch of ha who. Again, we are experts. So make sure to
tune into Pod Meets Twirled for all our Survivor 50 takes. Listen to Pod Meets Twirled on the
I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
All right, welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio.
Ryan, Drew Shannon, and Billy are Sports.
We had a doctor chime in on our not aphoid bone.
What is it, Drew?
He says it is a scaphoid bump, and it doesn't take a year to hill,
but it's at risk to not hill properly if a fracture is missed.
I knew that.
It takes a long time.
I'd say you're about 75% there.
We had a, from the Aviation Glass Text Machine from a guy by the name of Freddie
Maggard.
Have you heard of Freddy?
I'm a big fan of Freddie Maggard.
Freddie broke the scaphoid bone.
You know how many times he broke his scaphoid bone?
How many times?
Take a guess.
Three.
Take a guess.
Four.
Shannon?
16.
Seven.
Wow.
Broke his scaphoid bone seven times.
I heard him talk about it.
Like one time they taped an aspirin to it during a game.
That'll move, yeah.
Put an aspirin on it and taped it up.
What?
What does it do?
Seep into your skin?
How does that work?
What they, I guess they thought it was.
So, yeah.
So that's a good reminder.
All these guys are playing hurt one way or another, right?
I mean, most of the time, it's not if but when.
Also, from the aviation glass tech machine from Britt,
I've broken both wrists.
They take forever to heal and are never the same.
So I guess maybe he's got an NFL future.
Maybe he's wanting to, they're trying to make sure it's healed properly
so it doesn't hinder him in the future.
And I don't think there's been a big urgency because Demi's really stepped up.
I mean, he's looked like a good back.
I mean, you want to train him back.
You need a lot more depth there, but it wasn't the weakness of my thought it'd be when training first went down.
859-2-287.
Who we got next, Shannon?
Let's go to Peanut.
Peanut.
How's going, guys?
How are you, Peanut?
Peanut.
Oh, Peanut.
Hello, Peanut.
All right.
Well, thanks for the call, Peanut.
Good contribution.
Let's get a Trevor.
Good hearing from you, Peanut.
That is our Don Franklin not call of the day from Peanut there.
859-2-287.
We're going to Don Franklin soon, right?
Somerset, Chevy.
Don Franklin, Chevy, and Somerset on Friday.
Look at you.
And it is the Chevy one, right?
Because there's like 16 Don Franklin down there.
I'll double check, but that's what's on the schedule.
It's on Mario's graphic, and he wouldn't lie.
Who's next, Shannon?
Trevor.
Trevor, go ahead, Trevor.
Hey, guys, how are you doing this corner?
How are you, Trevor?
You know, I don't know what to think about this offense,
but I do know if we were able to give Brock some more time and establish a pocket,
he probably could do a little bit more than what he's done.
Yeah, I appreciate the phone call me.
Our tackles are not the greatest, unfortunately, and I know you're close to one of them,
but, you know, all the defensive line's got to do is run one stunt
and these Jaggers blown up every play.
he plays guard yeah he's the left guard all right appreciate him man
appreciate the phone call
the new the defensive line has definitely been
an issue they've been very disappointing
I mean when Cox came back you're thinking
there's a guy that's played a lot of football but you know Matt
mentioned he's playing through a lot of pain right now yesterday
but he's he's been disappointing at left tackle the caller's right
I mean maybe Van degriff looks a lot better with a little more time
he also scrambles out of the pocket pretty quickly
He's not staying in there.
He loses his composure pretty quickly,
so it's on both parties,
but it has been very disappointing that line play.
I'd even say a couple holding calls came
because Brock was holding on to the ball a little too long,
and those guys can only block for so long, right?
He rolls out.
You've got a scheme to help those weaknesses that you have,
whether it be chips or maybe bringing a tight end to help block,
but there is a real correlation between the offensive line issues
and the lack of explosive plays by this team.
They do a lot of stuff.
sets that, you know, two tight ends, I think for that reason to give them an extra blocker out there.
Tight ends.
What?
Yeah.
We do have tight ends on the football team.
Oh, yeah.
I would like to see more Willie Rodriguez.
I'm a big Josh Kat.
We think there's a lot of depth at that position, but of all of them, I think Willie's kind of been coming in with a big mean streak, looking good as a freshman at that big hit against Ole Miss starting right away.
I'd like to see a lot more from all of the tight ends, but I want more of him, too.
Didn't a tight end go to Louisville?
Isaiah Cummings?
Yeah.
I guess they're going to play him this year or did he graduate?
I don't keep up with them too much.
I don't either.
A few days ago, I thought they were playing Miami.
We've been all asking the same thing from these tight ends.
When they do throw to a tight end, it seems to be Jordan Dingles, the only guy that they threw to.
Big catch has had a touchdown this year.
Caddus, Camari Anderson, a big frame.
That's a name we heard a lot in the fall.
I haven't seen much of.
Now, former cat.
They've all kind of had to become blockers, unfortunately, making it out for the line play.
Want to mention our former cat that starred last night, Ray Davis.
What a big game he had for the bills last night.
Yeah, they have a Pro Bowl running back go down, so Davis knew he'd get some increased carries,
but he went in the game as the second back, and he ended up being the MVP of the whole thing.
He did the on-the-field interview with Van Pelt.
Yeah.
He was the first rookie to lead the bills in rushing and receiving in the same game since, like, 1986.
Really?
Yeah.
We had 20 carries for 97 yards.
I wanted to get 100 yards.
Could have gotten a lot of money on draft?
Kings for that. Well, I bet you could have got a good odds on him last night on

to start saying that they're all talking about Ray Davis like what what am I missing what's going
on I didn't even I had no idea he looks really good I mean James Cook when he's healthy he's the
guy there pro bowler but Ray Davis is going to make some money in the NFL I think he's
going to play a lot even if it's not in Buffalo there was a
to play. Josh Allen's scrambling, has his back to the end zone and throws it down to the 50-yard line.
There's Ray Davis down there making a catch deep down the field. They end up scoring on that drive,
and then, you know, getting 20 carries. He proved his worth and got these celebration afterwards.
She didn't run around with a cowboy hat on. Yeah, I did.
Josh talked about how proud he was of him after the game, Josh Allen, the Bill's quarterback,
and I'm not going to bet against that guy for as much adversity as he's overcome.
He was at the Vandy game Saturday. How did he pull that off?
Was he?
Yeah.
All right. Well, we'll take our break. Come back. Matt's expected to possibly join us here sometime in the next hour.
