Welcome everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio Friday.
October the 18th, I am Matt Jones here in Somerset, Kentucky,
at the Don Franklin Chevy right off here.
Is this Highway 27?
Highway 27.
Highway 27.
We have been to Don Franklin.
I think I've been to every Don Franklin in Somerset, and there's only 63 of them.
But we are at Don Franklin's Chevy right here in Pulaski County.
Love to have you come out.
Got a good group of folks here this morning.
859-280-2287.
Is the Clark's Pump and Shop phone line, but don't call in yet because we got a whole thing going on today.
A-Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-7-7-4-5-254.
this edition sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office called T.J. I'll make them pay.
First of all, to the people that are in Somerset, I have a surprise for you.
I have tickets to tonight's Blue White game to give away at this remote.
Get out in town. I didn't think I was going to have them, but I do. As a matter of fact,
I have two sets of two to give away here. So I'm going to do that at the end of the show.
So if you are in the Somerset area, you've got a pretty good crowd here, but there's a chance to win.
This is probably your best chance.
I mean, these are not cheap tickets.
Come on out.
This is not the experience.
You don't get to dapp everybody on this one.
This is just go to the game.
We'll do the drawing at the end of the show.
So come on out, Don Franklin Chevy.
You got an hour and 40 minutes to get here.
But I didn't know I was going to have that.
And I do for the blue white game tonight.
Good little get.
If you just come by and watch the show,
you got a chance to go to watch the blue white game.
I'm going tonight.
I'm excited.
I'm excited just to watch the team play tonight.
Yes.
And then at the end of the show,
I'm giving away the big package.
All of our finalists.
Well, I mean, the big package for the ticket.
Must be clear.
Yes.
I didn't say anything.
There's no party for that tonight, Chan.
And the people get to sit on the bench and all that.
We have finalists.
I'm getting one more finals.
We have seven.
We're going to have an eighth.
The TikTok people are final.
We got everything set up.
That'll be at the end of the show.
So there's a lot going on, Shannon.
And I'm excited because somebody at the end of this
is going to win a chance to have the UK fan experience of a lifetime.
And what an experience it is.
I mean, we've never had a contest quite like this.
I think this is better than the Alaskan cruise giveaway that we did many years ago.
I'm saying like, okay, so you look at the ones we, the things we've given away,
we gave away a trip to the Bahamas.
That was pretty good to watch UK basketball play.
We gave away a trip to Alaska once with us.
That was like those were big money trips.
I gave away a trip to the Champions Classic with tickets once.
And those are awesome, but this is also very unique.
None of those allowed you to sit on the bench and do all that stuff.
You don't have to go to the Bahamas to dab somebody up.
Whoever wins this has a VIP person to take them through the activities of the nights.
Isn't that crazy?
So it's exciting.
But you can win just tickets here while we are here today.
And then we got a lot going on.
But before we start any of this, Shannon, I want to start with you.
Okay.
We've got to talk about this guy standing next to me.
all right
Drew
No no no
you
as part of sort of the brotherhood
of Kentucky Sports Radio
it's like
it's like a much
lamer version of the armed forces
we leave no man behind
is that right?
That's true
That's exactly right
like we are all in this together
it's a lot dorkier
than the armed forces
but there's a brotherhood
and there's really
there's six of us
but there's four of us
that are on the front lines
right Billy and Mark
over there for re but there's four of us on the front lines and billy's gone he's got a bachelor party or
something like that so we're friday and you know the hardest thing in radio to do in my opinion is to
host a show by yourself would you agree with that yeah it's sink or swim it's sink or swim
talk show by yourself i think there's only one person in modern radio that does it well and that's
calling cowher nationally i'm always impressed at the way like nick coffee can do it in in louisville like i i think
It is.
It is hard.
It is very hard.
So we all make sure that we never leave anybody in that position, right?
Always make sure that we don't leave anybody out to drive.
So Billy's gone.
Shannon needs a co-host.
Hard enough to do it by yourself.
But as you know, Shannon, even harder on remote.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
When you're in a studio, it's not that difficult.
It's not that.
So every show, a little secret.
Friday's when we're on remote.
That's the hardest show we do of the week.
Because you've got to entertain the radio,
and you have to entertain all these beautiful people here.
You have to look at Bob and James Town.
Like there's a lot of stuff that's going on.
I'm just kidding you, Bob.
You're not winning these tickets tonight,
although we're not putting you on the bench.
But you just have a lot to do.
So this morning, you asked Ryan to host with you.
Yeah, I did.
I reminded them last night.
Hey, Ryan.
And then...
He said, I'll be there at 8.30.
What time does the show start?
9 o'clock.
He told you he'd be there at 8.30.
8.30.
What time did he show up to the pre-show?
I believe it was about 940.
940.
Yeah.
I got to call at 815 and said, I just woke up.
Just woke up?
Yeah.
Brian, you left Shannon on an island.
I did.
In Somerset at Don Franklin by himself in front of a crowd for 4.4.
40 minutes.
Explain yourself.
He's so talented and so good.
Don't put this on him.
Explain yourself.
I have no excuse.
Josiah got up at 515, and when I got up to make sure he was up,
somehow I turned off my alarm at 630.
Somehow you turned off your alarm.
I don't know.
My alarm went off at 515 to make sure he was up,
but somehow when I turned it off, I turned off the 630 alarm.
They were both turned off.
You went back asleep.
When you're up at 515, that,
felt like a good time to just stay awake and come on over have a good day no go back to sleep
catch another hour's sleep so you you need to first of all apologize i i apologize
uh whenever shannon calls i always want to be there for him but but you're but i let him down
i let him down today arguably on the hardest day yeah the hardest day so shannon yeah i'm giving
you something okay i'm giving you a present because i don't want people being mad at me and you
don't care if people are mad at you that's true you you are allowed you are giving being given the
permission to assign a punishment to him oh okay I will say I will back up any reasonable punishment
that you come up with care but you get to give him a punishment I'm going to give you the course
of the show to think about it but he deserves a punishment it was nice of him to agree to the
show was nice but at the same time had he said no you'd have found somebody else
That's right.
You'd have called Drew.
Yeah.
You'd have called Mario.
Yeah, anybody.
Would it call Bob and Jamestown.
Yeah.
Well, that would have allowed that.
You could have called me.
I would have said, no, but you could have at least tried.
Yeah, yeah.
So you got to think of the punishment.
And Ryan?
I got to do it.
You have to do it.
I love Ryan so much.
I hate to even punish them.
We're about to see Shannon's hard here.
I know.
I love Ryan.
No, but Shannon, you're the person who said, hey, guy, whose kid will cry if he doesn't
get to go to WrestleMania. Tell your kid to cry. That was in Somerset, by the way.
That was insane. You're giving me the switch to hit Ryan. Didn't he do that? He said,
cry kid. That's basically what you said. You're giving me the switch to hit Ryan and I don't want
to hit him. This is exactly right. You're like my grandmother when I was a kid who would make me
go get the switch for her to smack me with. Yeah. He already hit you this morning. Ryan's
going to hurt me more than to hurt you. It didn't really hurt. That's why this don't act like it wasn't
bad my granny was great she she she I would act like it hurt but it did but you you get to do that
and you get to pick the switch with which you get to smack you with Ryan I don't want to do that to
you buddy but you did leave me I left you hanging you all right so not yet just think about it
Ryan you have to do it that the punishment can be enacted today or it could be later it's up to
you so I'll let you think and the ad to Shannon's worry the signal dropped out my cell service
dropped out it rains it pours you are you're listening and it was a hard listen
We were driving as fast as we could to try to save it.
He's saying it's not the best of?
No, it's not.
Absolutely not.
To add to the morning, I left my house at 8 a.m. today.
Guess who I saw in traffic in Lexington.
Young Josiah Lemon out going where he needs to be in the morning.
Josiah was up around early, gave Josiah wave.
Nope.
So, all right.
So, Shannon, you can be bigger of that.
I'll be ready.
Tonight, so we got another big weekend.
Blue White game tonight, UK, Florida, tomorrow night.
By the way, I just got my note from my GM at the bar.
we will be serving fried gator all day tomorrow, which is a good tradition.
She does a good job with that at KS Bar.
So blue white tonight, here's what I've been told where we are.
It is kind of a mystery because it's the first time they've done it like this.
Their ticket sales were, I would say, much better than they slash we thought,
especially after the start.
I think it's probably going to be, I don't know, 70, 75 percent full,
considering what they were charging I think is a really positive amount I have a
sense of what they're gonna do I think it's gonna be awesome it's you can still
get tickets at club blue nil.com the $100 tickets are still available now there
is I don't know how this is gonna work they are streaming it but they're not
streaming it meaning from what I understand JMI is doing a show from the
event but they're not gonna show the event
I don't know what that means.
So we look over Dick Gabriel's shoulder.
Yeah, I assume it's going to be like Dick Gabriel and somebody else talking,
but you don't get to see what's happening.
I don't know how that's going to go.
So my suggestion is if you want to see something, you probably still want to go.
Okay, that's just going to be my suggestion.
With that said, I think it's going to be very cool tonight, right?
First time we're going to see these guys on the court together.
I'm told they're doing it.
The women start at six.
I think the men start at seven.
A real scrimmage.
where they're going up and down the court, keeping score all that stuff.
Yeah, there's a lot of guys going to fighting for playing time.
They want to get on the court.
Well, this is going to be, it's not like an NBA All-Star game.
These guys are out there going to be actually playing and trying to compete with each other.
So we're going to see, you know, Kobe Bray and Travis Perry and O'Rey and O'Reilly.
These guys all trying to fight for playing time to get on the court.
We're going to see that.
So I'm excited to see just what this team's made of.
Mark Pope said that, you know, their first exhibition game is Wednesday night.
Wednesday.
I'm not sure if people are like, we play basketball.
Wednesday night against Kentucky Wesley.
And Mark Pope said he has one or two final questions
about the starting lineup that he will decide based on the play tonight.
That's interesting.
I'm most excited to see we just, we've speculated what the offense looks like,
we've seen clips of BYU, we've heard experts talking about it.
But tonight Pope announced it on the show,
he's going to be miced up and explain exactly how they're going to play basketball.
And that's what I'm most excited to see.
And by the way, that's part of why it's not on TV.
he is going to while he's there, explain the offense,
which I guess he doesn't want everyone on television to see,
but I think that's looking most.
You know, Pro Day, we've seen these guys in drills.
It's amazing, but it's hard to get a real opinion of them,
just taking wide open shots.
He mentioned there might be blood on the court tonight.
They're going hard, and we're finally going to see what the team looks like.
They're going to be blood on the court.
They're going hard.
So it's, even though we've had madness and a few other things,
this is going to be the first time where we actually see how Kentucky is going to play,
I agree with you.
Now, Saturday, UK Florida, right.
Kentucky is now the favorite.
Florida started as a two and a half point favorite, and it is flipped, and now Kentucky is a one point favorite.
Do you up to two now keeps moving?
It's up.
So like the lines move four and a half points towards Kentucky, that does not, for people who don't gamble, that doesn't happen a lot.
Are you surprised that it seems like Kentucky is becoming kind of a consensus favorite?
Yeah, especially since coming off what we just saw.
against Vanderbilt. Maybe they're taking into case like almost all of Florida's
offense has hurt. Like their quarterbacks hurt, a lot of their offensive line. Yeah, they're
missing a lot of guys. They lost their quarterback, they're running back, two of their
offensive linemen and their second best receiver all in the last two games. Wow. So we
are seeing kind of their second best players. Now the one thing is their quarterback is the
guy a lot of people thought should be starting anyway. He's like a young guy that they were playing.
Yeah, he's got a couple of games on his belt already, but this is like they've
handed the keys to him now.
This is his team.
He was a player of the year coming out of Texas, I think, last year.
So the guy's obviously super talented.
But like Drew and I have said this week, it won't surprise me at all
if they come out on Saturday and play great on the road
after the stinker they threw it against Vandy last weekend.
I think that's the problem.
Like we're halfway through the season,
and I still don't really know what the identity of this team is.
Is it the team that's going to get blown out to South Carolina,
lose to Vandy or a team that's going to beat Ole Miss and play Georgia tough?
Billy Napier.
I don't know if his players like him or not, Drew.
But if they do, they're playing for his job.
Saturday. If he loses Saturday, he's done. There's no way. They might be done anyway,
but he's certainly done if he loses Saturday. This could be the last game they could even win.
They go, it's unbelievable. They play Georgia, Texas, Ole Miss, LSU, and then end with Florida
State, who's down. That's a rivalry game. So this is like their last, this is one we should win.
And he could go 0 and 3 against Kentucky. And I mean, if I were him, if he were to lose tomorrow,
I walk straight home and start putting things in boxes. Yeah. No, if he loses tomorrow, they're done.
So maybe you get one to win one for the Gipper attempt for Billy Napier.
But for Kentucky, big game.
I mean, making a bowl, to me, requires a win tomorrow.
So it is a huge game for both teams.
All right.
Open up the phones.
We're going to get our last finalist.
859-280-2287.
John's going to open up the phones.
First six people who get in will do one last finalist
and then we'll be able to play for the passes at,
the end, the chance to have a UK fan experience for a lifetime.
This is your last chance to get in.
859-28027.
And if you're here in Somerset, you can actually get tickets without ever having to call.
Yeah.
If you're here at this Don Freykel.
We'll take a break.
Barry back.
It's KSR.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped.
up in the chase, that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still
chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes
about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person
while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different
intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good

What's up, fam, it's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast, Point Game is about defining the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin.
And Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers,
why he got the ball like, after you go through a training camp with that Isaiah,
you figure it out real quick.
Oh, yeah.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
American soccer is about to explode.
The World Cup is coming.

I'm Tom Boe.
On our podcast, Inside American Soccer, you'll get the real storylines.
I'm not worried about Policicic.
I'm not worried about Balligan.
I'm not worried about McKinney.
My only concern is what happens in the back.
The biggest decisions.
If you're going to look at stats and numbers,
he has no shot at making this World Cup team.
And the truth about the U.S. national team.
It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals
or potentially a great run into the semifinals.
The World Cup is almost here.

Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through life one hot flash and hormonal crying jag at a time.
You ladies know what I mean. I'll bet you a perimenapausal chin here you do. So let's talk about it.
Join me on my new podcast. How hard can it be with Deanna Maria Riva, where I call on my Gen X squads from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate midlife's most fantastic BS.
All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own.
I was like, what the hell is that?
I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that nest was going to be.
Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive.
Wait, what sex?
Dating at 45.
How can it be getting naked at 50 with a new guy?
That one's kind of hard.
Well, that's lighting.
They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try.
So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter.
And dive into it, unfiltered and unbothered and ask, how hard can it be?
I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud in public.

I have some great news.
The great news is our phone lines don't seem to be working, which is an awesome day for
that to happen since we're trying to give away these things.
Today would be the perfect day for the phone lines not to work.
But if you are trying to call and wonder why it said that your phone lines are not in service,
that is why.
If it's not one thing, it is something else always on this show technology.
We're up against the deadline with this prize.
It's tonight.
This isn't something we can do another time.
There's no way for me to do this unless it's from 10 to 12 today.
Shannon is looking at it.
Shannon, what are you finding out here, sir?
Gus, our boss is going to be looking into it.
And we'll figure it out as soon as possible.
As soon as we do that, we will try to deal with it.
We'll go back to UK Florida, Brock Van de Griff.
halfway through the season.
Drew, do you think as we get into the second half here?
Do you think we will see a continued improvement of Brock Van de Griff
or is what we've seen in the last two or three games,
which has been good but not great?
Is that what we're going to see the rest of the year?
I think he will gradually continue to improve.
I'm not ready to label that this is just what he is.
I mean, that's a guy that when he came here,
probably a two-year guy, so I'm still hoping he has a long way to go.
but the offense as a whole has been very disappointing.
I mean, they move the ball against Vandy.
They outgained them, had better total offense,
but they just cannot punch it in the end zone to have four touchdowns
and four SEC games.
And two of those are a double-digit favorite and you lost.
I mean, I think it's just a it's an everyone issue.
Hamden, across the board the line, I think everyone could be better.
Last week, as we know, a lot of that was mistakes.
They're playing pretty well and would just hurt themselves with pilities.
That's it right there.
You just can't make bone-headed plays like they did it.
Bone-headed play after bone-headed.
play after boneheaded play and in some ways the worst times you could make them i mean the absolute
worst times you could make them you know we talked about you know the the dane throwing the ball the false
start uh just a lot of stuff ryan that is extremely extremely frustrated they finally did
score two touchdowns against vandy but they were inside the 30 three other times and did not get
it in the end zone i mean that just can't have two of those times didn't even get a point didn't
even get a point. When you're on the four-inch line and you walk away with zero points,
something's not right. Even when they did score, they're messing up the extra point. It was just so
sloppy. That's why I'm confident going into Florida. If they had to done that against Vanderbilt
and they win that game, they're a favorite at Florida. Well, they are now anyway, but I think
that line is moving to where it should have been before the Vandy game. Now, Chip Trey and him,
who I've assumed for quite some time, was not going to play the rest of the year. He did
give a statement yesterday that he said he is trying to play this year he didn't say win i mean
we're running out of time to be honest with you we only if he's not playing tomorrow now you're
just talking five games left do you ryan expect to see the running back that we've kind of
all waited for this year do you expect to see kind of the the scuttlebutt is he's going to
play tomorrow may not play a lot but i think he may get a couple touches tomorrow that's a
i mean that's i guess he just wants to go to the draft either way because i would have thought at this
point he just want to save his season and maybe get a year. But, you know, I don't think that
position has been our issue, honestly, Drew, but do you think if he does play a little bit,
it would make it a difference? I think so. If nothing else, just having the depth, especially with
what we heard on Monday about some guys needing some Velcro shoes, it'd be a great time to
put a guy in the back field to maybe show some leadership. The talk before he got hurt was that,
you know, he was much better than the other guys. And the other guys have played well. So
Maybe he comes in and pops off and has a great game.
They listed him as probable last night.
I don't know anything, but I'm expecting to see him tomorrow and looking forward to it.
Well, I mean, this is one of those that I'd be interested, the story behind the story,
because I can tell you the assumption was he wasn't going to play.
And now all of a sudden he's playing.
I'd be interested to see kind of what the chain of events were that led to that.
But it certainly won't hurt to have him.
Do you think it will be any sort of fundamental change to the way they call play?
I mean, I feel like, I feel like Demi has played well.
Wilcox had some good runs.
I don't really know that it'll make a huge amount of difference.
Do you?
I don't either.
I don't think I'll make a huge amount of difference because Demi Sumo Carmbay has really
played really well and run the ball well.
Wilcox, where his shoes are on, he plee runs the ball really well.
It's just like Drew said gives him some depth in that running back room.
Because it was just those two guys.
That's why I think Gavin Wimpsett was getting a lot of touches because they just needed some extra
legs out there.
If they thought he was that much better than those two,
I'm excited to see maybe he does take it up to.
another level they haven't hit yet. Yeah. Now Florida's defense has been so-so, but their
offense has been pretty putrid a lot of the year. Our defense, you know, we are one of,
I saw this stat, we are one of only 12 teams in the country defensively who have held every
team on our schedule to below their average yards. So that, I mean, think about that for a minute.
Every single team we've played, they've had a worse than average game against us offensively,
which is a great sign, Shannon, for our defense,
but I don't know how much longer the defense can sort of hold people like this.
I mean, you've got to think at some point they have one dud,
but they really haven't in any game this year.
I don't feel like it'll be tomorrow, you know, with Florida's backup quarterback,
I feel like they're going to get a lot of pressure on him
and try to shake him early in the game and sort of take him out of the game.
But, you know, it comes down to can Kentucky's offense get to 20, 21 points?
To me, that's the bigger concern.
I feel good about Kentucky's defense holding Florida to maybe 20 or less.
Can Kentucky's offense get there?
Can Kentucky score 21 points tomorrow?
I'm with you.
I think we score 21 we win.
I said the same thing in the Vandy game.
Problem was, we didn't score 21.
Do you think we can score 21 tomorrow?
I think we can.
I don't know we can.
I think we can.
Our predictions right on 21, and I have the defense helping with that.
I don't have much faith in this offense.
but I do think the defense will travel and that's why Kentucky will win the game.
They're going to put Lagway in some tough spots.
21 to me for most of the, until we play Texas, I think you look at the rest of the games.
For me, the magic number is 21.
I think when we score 21, we will be, if we score 21, we beat Georgia.
If we score 21, we beat Vanderbilt.
We beat Vanderbilt.
If we score 21 and don't hand them 10 points, we go to overtime against South Carolina.
Carolina. 21 to me is the number. I just wonder every game with the offense if they really can find a way to do it. Because so far this year, Drew, they have not.
I know. I mean, what a small thing to ask, too. 21 points when you have an elite defense. And as we thought coming in the year, enough talents at receiver and across the offense to score points. They're just not doing it.
I don't think it's too much to ask to put an offense out where you put that kind of investment in it and be able to get 21 points. But so far, it hasn't happened. We're going to take a break.
Hopefully get our phone lines fixed.
a little bit about big retirement yesterday.
This is KSR.
Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio, here live at Don Franklin and Somerset.
You know, we go to Somerset a lot, but still, we visit a town.
We have a tradition, Ryan.
Tell me a couple famous athletes from Somerset.
Right.
Reggie Hansen is always the first one that pops into my mind.
Integrated UK basketball, according to Billy.
According to Billy, yeah.
Josh Anderson, probably the best baseball player played out of her.
He ended up playing in the big leagues from out of EKU.
that's about it i can think of right now that's not bad it this is a huge city like what you mean
it's about it how rogers has spit more on that than athletes come on uh-huh we just had uh kai sharon
play quarterback kai sharon kai sharon is that really you all guys are those the only two
who mark copper hill father father gill
father gill what does he play
For who?
For Maryland.
Okay, there you go.
That's a good one.
That's a good one.
Reggie Hanson's the big one.
Reggie Hansen.
All right.
So 859-280.
Okay, excuse me, that's not the number.
All right.
Before I, we, we have an alternate number to pick our final finals.
Fancy number.
You know what?
It's better than the old one.
They're now, you call Sarah on the operator and she'll put you through and we'll be able to do it.
Here's what you got to do.
Shannon, since you had to do the first hour by yourself.
I'm going to let you pick our final finalist.
Here's what you have to do.
Four people.
We're only going to be able to have four because the Sarah operator line doesn't work as much.
You have to call in and you have to convince Shannon why you deserve to be a finalist.
Remember, what is what you're trying to think is what does Shannon like?
You know, we know when Ryan picks, people start talking about how their dog died and their sister wants to talk to them and all this stuff.
and their child is crying.
Like, we know what works with Ryan.
There's a sympathy vote works with Ryan.
I have no sympathy.
Shannon has no sympathy.
I think that's the wrong move here.
They call him no soul Shannon.
That's right.
Yeah.
So the question is, how do you get Shannon to pick you as the finalist?
Now, I can only take four.
So I'm giving you the alternate number.
Here's the alternate number.
502, 571, 790.
790.
5701-7-1-7-9-0.
The first four that come in, Shannon will pick our final finalists.
Are you ready?
I don't want to hear any sob stories.
I don't want you crying to me.
Don't beg.
None of that.
Just what works for you?
I just want to hear what you got to say.
Why they should pick you.
All right.
Did you watch the baseball game last night, right,
where the guy's name was like something Noel?
He hit a home run, and it looked like he hit it 1,000 feet for Cleveland.
and I found out that his nickname was Big Christmas, and I loved it.
Did you see Big Christmas hit that home run?
I loved the baseball last night, man.
That's what playoff baseball is about, hitting home runs, tying it up,
hitting bottom of the inning home runs.
I mean, it was exciting.
So yes, to answer your question, I saw it, and I loved it.
Big Christmas is a great nickname.
I mean, that is one of the most elite nicknames I've ever heard, Big Christmas.
I like that.
I saw it.
I didn't see the game.
I saw your tweet.
Is there an explanation behind the name?
His last name is Noel.
Oh, yeah.
Well, there we go.
That helps out.
Last name is Noel, and so he's this big massive guy.
Yep.
And Shannon, big Christmas.
We saw, like, a couple of Santa Claus's out in the stands.
They sang Felice Nabida on the Spanish-Announce call of that.
Okay, that's all that.
Yeah.
They sang Felice Navidavit.
Yeah.
Oh, you got to find that and sit that to John.
I want to hear it.
Yeah.
John, we have to play that when Shannon sends it to you, okay?
Okay.
All right.
Do you have your calls?
I do have the calls.
All right.
Here we go.
Now remember this, the goal, so if you didn't see the home run, we got here, we'll play
the police navidad call.
The goal is who will give the best story to Shannon?
Ready?
Let's go.
Who's up first?
Chad.
Chad, where are you from?
Bowling Green.
Chad from Boeing Green.
Now, can you get up here tonight in time?
Yes, I can.
Okay, I was about saying if you can't, then this isn't going to work.
All right.
Chad.
Tell Shannon why he should pick you.
Well, Shannon, first of all, this is my first time call.
Who are?
And I have been to UK one time in my life,
and I just think that this is going to be the best exciting season
that we can expect with the new Pope Air.
All right, there you go.
Now, no comment from you yet, Shane.
Okay.
He's been to UK one time in his life.
Do you mean to a game?
or even to the campus?
To a game.
One time to a game.
What year was that?
It was a year that we played Vanderbilt,
and we blew them out like 40 points.
That's a lot of years.
Any specificity?
I'm sorry.
Who was the coach when you win?
It was Tubby.
I'm sorry.
Tubby, okay.
Oh, you're talking about that was probably 03
when we beat them by like 60, I think,
Keep bringing that up.
That'll get you a lot of extra points.
And it's a Vandy fan.
Chad,
Chad, who would you take with you to the game or to the practice tonight?
My wife.
Your wife.
Okay, so Chad and his wife have only been once,
and now they would like to go tonight from Bowling Green.
All right, Chad.
Hang on.
Who's next?
Derek.
Derek, where are you from?
Henderson, Kentucky.
Henderson.
Now, do you?
have time to get here tonight?
I can do it if I leave now.
Well, you can't leave now.
You're going to have to win the contest in the second hour, but you'd have time after that, right?
Yep.
Okay.
Now, why should you get to go?
My boy got cut from JV last night, and this will make it up to him.
Boy got cut from the JV team last night.
So you would take your son, am I correct?
Yes, sir.
All right. So that's very nice. I appreciate it. Just hang on. Very nice.
Okay. You know, Ryan, you and I, I remember when the coach at Middlesbrough High School told me,
you can be a manager, son, you could be one of the best managers I've ever seen.
I broke my heart. It would have been nice to have someone take me to something like this,
and then I could show them by sitting on the bitch.
Wouldn't that make you feel better? It would make me feel amazing.
Yes, blue white game. Forget, I don't need your JV team, Drew.
I'm on the UK team.
I hear you, but I'm a little, I hope the son isn't listening.
Just knowing how Shannon asks in Somerset, I'm a little worried.
I'm stewing over here.
We don't know.
All right, who's our next one?
Michael.
Michael, where are you from?
Louisville, Kentucky.
Louisville.
All right, who would you take tonight?
I would take my daughter, and the reason is because we have a special handshake that we developed when she plays basketball.
And I thought we could teach it to whatever player we chose.
Oh, that's interesting.
So you have a handshake you would teach to the player.
Did you and your daughter learn it together?
She kind of made it up and, you know, I followed her.
Okay, can you do it?
Oh, yeah.
All right.
So you, but now you'd let your daughter do the handshake.
You wouldn't make her stay in the crowd while you did the handshake, right?
Right.
Well, unless three of us could do it at the same time somehow.
Yeah, you can.
There's only one person that.
don't get to do it. Well, yeah, I would be my daughter then, of course.
All right, so there you go. So he has a handshake. That would be nice.
Taught that can teach the player the handshake. That could be very excited.
All right. Last one. Who is this? Mike, where are you from?
Lexington.
Lexington. So we have Lexington, Louisville, Henderson, and Bowling Green. Where's my Eastern Kentucky, folks?
You didn't get through. All right, so who would you take tonight?
I'd be taking my fifth grade son.
Fifth grade son. All right. And why, why do you?
you think you should get the tickets.
Well, I feel like, Shannon, my son is about the same age as you are when your buddies wouldn't let you play as Kentucky when you were playing backyard basketball.
So I feel like this experience for him would set him up as a lifelong fan of Kentucky.
Okay, so you're bringing up one of Shannon's weak moments and saying, remember when you were not able to play as Kentucky, there you go.
All right, so hang on.
Now, remember, to the four of you, you don't win if this is this.
We'll bring you on at the end of the show to play for the finals.
So I will review, Shannon, with you.
And then you tell me.
One at a time, if you don't mind.
You give me your initial thoughts.
What about Chad from Bowling Green, who hasn't been to a game since Tubby Smith in 2003?
Kind of felt bad for him.
Then he brought up the fact that when he was there, he was at the game where they beat Vandy by 1,000.
That kind of brought up a sore spot, so I don't know about that one.
All right.
So then you have Derek.
Derek says his boy was cut from the JV basketball team.
What's your thought of that one?
Sounds like instead of going to the game, we need to go out to the backyard and get some shots up.
Maybe make the team next year.
I knew this was coming.
I knew it.
I mean, I think that's where you need to spend your time in the gym, not in Kentucky's gym.
But in theory, he could at the practice, like, see these good players and try to model his game after them.
Yeah, no.
What's next?
He's going to get cut twice in two days.
All right, Michael.
Michael is from Louisville, and what did he say?
Oh, his daughter knows the handshake.
His daughter has a handshake and she'll teach the player the handshake.
I'm not fully convinced that if he were to win,
that he would tell his daughter to go sit down,
he's going to go out there and do the handshake instead.
I'm not convinced because when you asked him, he's like, oh, yeah,
I'm going to let my daughter do it.
Yeah, I'm not convinced.
There was hesitation in there.
He did sound like there was a chance.
Well, first he replied, we're all going to do it.
And he's, I guess one, she can do it.
All right.
And then finally, Mike in Lexington, he says, I just wrote buddies.
Oh, he just said.
He brought up your trauma.
Oh, yeah.
His son, his buddies do not let him play as Kentucky during the event.
And that's kind of how I became a Vandy fan.
So I can relate to the fourth caller there.
So is it time to pick which one that I want?
Yes.
Chad, with the, and I hadn't been since 2006 or 2003, Derek's kid was cut from JV,
Michael's kid has the handshake, and then Mike wants to turn his fifth grader into a fan
because his friends are not fans yet.
What do you think?
All right, so caller one, the bowling green guy, you're out.
Who's date night?
He was taking the wife.
He's the guy that went to the top of the game.
He's out immediately.
If he didn't bring that game up, he would have had a chance, but you're out.
Number two, I hate the TV guy.
He got cut.
You're cut again.
You're out.
Oh, no.
Roodle.
Yeah, hit the gym.
There's something about Somerset and Shannon.
Well, he did get left by himself an hour was, true.
Yeah, a little grumpy.
Now it comes down to the guy with his daughter and the handshake
and the guy with his fifth grade son who wants to take him to his first Kentucky game.
Can I just give one little thought before you make a pick?
Sure, I won't take it into account, but go ahead.
I'm not telling you what to do.
Yeah.
Okay.
But the one kid, we're not certain that kid is even a fan yet.
Remember?
He's like wanting to turn his kid in.
do a fan yeah the other girl has a handshake but you're right there's always the chance he says get
out of the way kid i'm doing the handshake and that last guy is also from louisleville right uh no he's
he's from lewisks he's from louisks he's from lewiskson okay well there's still a chance that the guy
from lexington's kid could be a lovable fan if he doesn't get this experience so i'm going with
caller number four i'm going to hook him up with the finalist last spot all right mike come back on mike
are you there?
I'm here.
All right.
So first of all, do you want to thank Shannon?
He picked you.
Hey, Shannon.
Thanks, buddy.
We're going to be rooting for Fainabilt number two team.
Okay, there we go.
Now, you haven't won yet,
so we'll have to give your information.
We'll call you at the end of the show.
You have to promise me, though,
that your kid will be a Kentucky fan if he goes tonight.
If you remember, Matt,
he called the post-game show last year
when Justin Edwards had the big game.
I did not remember that, but I would, but I believe you.
He's a fan.
All right.
There you go.
Well, hang on, get your information.
We now have our final finalist, and Shannon was mean as always.
Maybe he should have taken cornbread hemp after he missed hour number one.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't
realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you

Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about
defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to
win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've
never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
Steve Nass would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers,
why he got the ball, like,
You go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.

I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that mess was going to be.
Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive.
Wait, what sex?
Dating at 45. How can it be getting naked at 50 with a new guy?
That one's kind of hard, no.
Well, that's lighting.
They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try.

Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio here.
And Don Franklin, remember if you're here by the end of the show,
we're going to do a contest.
I'm going to give two sets of two tickets away to people here in Somerset.
Looks like folks excited about the possibility to be going should be a fun night.
One person writes, Matt, I'm kind of upset about the blue-white game.
I don't think it's right that it costs so much and that fans won't be able to see it.
I totally get that opinion.
Like, I'm not, this is one of those I kind of understand both sides.
I understand why they're doing it.
I was told they're going to raise between $750,000 and a million dollars tonight for NIL.
You've got to have NIL in order to succeed.
I mean, most people think now these basketball programs to win a title probably need.
four to five million
in the NIL.
UK basketball can get it done
and get 25% of that
and one night.
I understand why they do it.
At the same time,
I can also understand why fans would say
how are you leaving us out?
Here's the reality, though.
The reality is, Drew, for many years,
the blue-white game, people had stopped caring about.
They were not going to it.
They were not watching it.
The attendance was low.
They had a heart,
and I think this is why they moved
that was because it was an event that people didn't seem to care about until and they thought
this was a way to spice it up. Yeah, we all talk about how UK has to come up with these clever ideas
to fundraise a little bit for an I.L. We compliment Tennessee for the things they do. This is
UK thinking out the box and trying to raise a bunch of money for the fan base. I'm with you. I completely
get it the people that are used to going and that's just beyond their means. But at the same time,
UK has to try these things. I'm hoping.
I'm hoping, I don't know if they'll try this every year, but this seems kind of unique where both coaches are new, both teams are brand new, both teams are brand new.
I don't know if it'll be a one-off year or if this will continue.
I think they're going to do this for a long time.
But I mean, this is the special year to do it and get the most out of it because you're not going to have this again where everything's brand new.
Yeah, I think they're going to do this every year.
I think they think, you know, Kentucky has some fundraising limitations for NIO.
The biggest of which is we talked about this, we don't have a lot of.
of mega donors at UK.
We only have a couple. Some schools have like 20.
We've got like three.
And so I think this is the way you try to make up for things like that.
Ryan, Tony Bennett, not the singer, but the coach, retired at 55 years old.
He's leaving Virginia.
He won a national championship.
He had a history of playing the most boring style of basketball that anyone's ever played.
But two weeks before the regular season retires, he says.
is it's not health related.
So I'm glad to know that because normally you'd hear something like that at this time.
You'd think, well, man, I hope he's okay.
Not health related.
He's doing a press conference actually here in five minutes to talk about why.
What do you think of Tony Bennett retiring right on the edge of the season?
I was shocked this close to tipping off.
They probably have an exhibition game maybe next week.
So here they are just a week away from maybe on the court.
He steps away.
I immediately, like you said, thought it had to be health issues.
You don't go this close to tipping off the season and then step away.
maybe he knew he didn't have that fire and he's trying to hand over to somebody to be an interim coach
and hopes that interim coach one of his guys can get it but see that's what that's what it is and i have to tell you
listen if the guy wants to step away i'm i'm four i'm that's fine man you've made a lot of money he's won a
national title i think it's a bad look drew two weeks before the season to step away and i
I continue to say, I am so done with the hypocrisy of people mad about players leaving and making money.
I said, I want you to imagine if Jackson Robinson quit the team right now.
I want you to imagine what everybody's reaction would be.
He'd be threatened.
Selfish, all this stuff.
But the coach leaves, and again, assuming it's not health, the coach leaves, and we are like,
It's no big thing.
I'm so tired of people acting like the world is ending because players make money
and then justify coaches who will leave no matter what whenever they can, including,
and if he wants to retire, retire, but a week before the season, I just, I like Tony Bennett.
He's a great coach.
And assume if it's health, that's different.
But assuming it's not health, I just kind of think that's late.
When the news came out, I immediately thought health or scandal.
It's like Tony Bennett, the scandal, that seems impossible.
Then they came out and said it's not health, so it's very fishy.
I watched a 15-minute interview with him because ACCC Media Day was like five days ago,
and he seems excited, talking about the team, what they're going to do.
So it's just very bizarre for it to drop like this right before they play their first game.
I'd also say this, Ryan, if coaches don't like the modern system, then I would say, get out.
Because there will be people who want to do it.
And if he didn't like it, he didn't like it.
in March. He didn't like it last March. Why didn't he retire then? It's selfish to do that.
And his roster is the same. How are you going to recruit a freshman and say, come play for me and
then leave right before they start? Is Virginia so slow that he tried to retire in March?
Just now getting to it. That's a good lie. Ryan's right, though. What he did is he waited
to now so that his guy could get the job. That's why he did. And I just, that's lame to me.
And Tony's always seemed like a classy guy. I just think it's a lame way to end. What was otherwise
a pretty amazing career. We'll take a break. Come back. Hour number two here in
Somerset, this is Kentucky Sports Radio.
