Two things stick out to me this morning.
Number one, Ryan, didn't you have that shirt on yesterday?
Yesterday, he said Kentucky Wesleyan alumni.
But it's the same shirt?
No, this one says Kentucky Wesleyan baseball.
Okay, so you're getting yourself ready for...
Yes.
Do you have another one for tomorrow?
Tomorrow.
Bar I'll wear my purple Kentucky Wesleyan.
Are you going to the game?
Yes.
Worldwide Todd Harris just sent me two tickets this morning.
Are you going to be cheering for Wesley?
I absolutely will be cheering for Wesleyan.
I feel like, Drew, that's not good.
Well, I was going to say, why is Worldwide Todd Harris giving you tickets?
Shouldn't Wesleyan be bringing you as part of them?
Yeah, why aren't you like on the bench or something?
My Wesleyan connections didn't come through this year like they did a couple years ago.
Wait a minute.
Did they say they couldn't fit you in?
Everybody wants to go to Mark Pope's first game.
So, like, they didn't have any.
extra tickets for hooligans like me.
Well, I'm sure.
Wesleyan is giving tickets to people who are just UK fans who want to go to Pope's game
and not the most famous alumni in Kentucky.
Yeah, last time Wesleyan came here, I got tickets right behind the Wesleyan bench,
and I was yelling and screaming for Wesleyan.
I think this is a shape.
Like the sort of sympathy I had for Wesleyan just went out the door.
What is that?
I don't know.
I thought I loved Wesleyan.
I did too.
there many times like Owensboro there's a great Mexican restaurant by Wesley and I'm slipping on the name
had many good nights there but at this point I feel like we got to run up to score.
I'm very upset. I'm upset at you Wesley and this dude loves you all more than anything and you can't
even get him in the building. So now you see you're with worldwide Todd Harris.
Yeah. I do want to mention, you know, there is a recruiting race for my son and Kentucky Wesley
it was wonderful. Oh, wait a minute. Wait a minute. Did they drop the ball on the Josiah Lippin
recruitment?
Wow. Well, I'm going to change my crystal ball pick.
Yeah, now the cat's by 34, not third.
What I wonder if you were, they don't set spreads for these games.
Where would you put it?
Well, actually, today I'm writing a Wesleyan preview.
I haven't really gotten into the roster, so ask me again tomorrow,
but I'll say right now I'll set the line at 32 and a half.
Okay.
I did notice Louisville opened their season last night.
I think they played a team called like Young Friends.
Young Harris.
I'm a big fan.
I thought it was a rapper.
Young Harris.
I was really pulling for him.
What is Young Harris?
I thought that was Worldwide Todd's kid.
I didn't watch the game because I can't be bothered to watch Louisville, but I did before
the game look up Young Harris's team photo.
It is in Georgia, Division II.
I think it's Georgia.
Yeah, it's Georgia.
Young Harris.
Their team photo, I don't know.
It's all need to see.
I don't know that they are.
Well, I mean, we saw Louisville's team photo, so it worked out.
They actually took a team photo in the exact same spot of Louisville's team photo.
in their practice gym.
They did a better team photo as far as just opening their eyes, ironing their clothes,
but not a lot of size on Young Harris.
I do love the name Young Harris for a school.
I did also say, and I didn't tweet about it because I want to make sure we have a good crowd
tomorrow.
But for the first game of the Pat Kelsey era, it was not the era's tour.
I can tell you that.
I was shocked how few people were there.
I mean, I understand it's an exhibition game, but we'll see.
see what happens with us tomorrow night. I think we're going to have a big crowd there,
don't you? I think so, because like I said, people want to be there for Mark Pope's debut.
Mark Pope's first game. Yes, there's so much excitement surrounding that. People want to go.
I want to go. I mean, I want to go. So we made the decision, by the way, we will do a pregame
show and a postgame show. It feels like every year that decision changes. This year, we are
doing a pregame and postgame. So we'll do the pregame here at the bar. 430. Postgame show will be
after the game. I'm going to do it. So I'm to stay up and do a post game.
game show after the first game. So that's the Wesleyan T-shirt first thing. Second thing,
we have a guest in attendance. Freddie Maggard is in the building. How about that? How are you doing,
Freddie? Freddie Wayne, in the house. Freddie you look good. It looks good. It's nice to see Freddie
in here. I haven't seen Freddie in a while, and so really nice to have. Now we have, we have royalty
in the building. We've talked to some football the last couple days, and, you know,
Freddie bleeds blue more than anybody. So, you know, we're all frustrated with what's going on right now.
Yeah, I bet Freddy's pretty. You frustrated? You're frustrated?
about, yeah, it's frustrating.
But at least we only play the biggest game against Auburn.
If you lose, you miss a bowl.
And for them, by the way, if they lose Saturday,
they may not win an SEC game.
They don't have another game that's an obvious win on their schedule.
Yeah, what are they lost?
Five straight now?
I mean, they're playing teams well.
Turnovers are hurting them, but they just cannot seem to win a game.
So, you know, I don't know what you say about that.
But Kentucky and Auburn,
So here's what my theory is.
If you want to call and talk about, if you have football program thoughts, I'd love to hear it, 859-2-80-22-87.
But basketball does start tomorrow.
So I do think we ought to kind of get ourselves into the basketball mode, into the framework,
and talk a little bit about the season.
We discussed yesterday all the players we saw, and we discussed yesterday kind of what the team look like.
But I think the season starts with, would you agree with me sort of, it's been a long time since I think the fan base has been this excited to watch the team play.
You know, I don't know what the beginning of the season is going to be like, but I just feel, and we'll find out tomorrow, but I just feel there's a lot of energy around this group and around Mark Pope.
Do you all agree with that?
I absolutely agree with that.
Yeah, I think we feel like for the last several years, our team kind of got hijacked from us.
And now we got our team back, and the guy's one of us.
So I think –
When you say hijacked, what do you mean?
I think, you know –
Because to be fair to Cal, he didn't recruit any differently the last few years beyond maybe the players weren't as good as he did the whole time he was here.
I think maybe it was just the talking down to the fans and kind of separating the fans from the program.
That's what I mean.
So you think that Mark has been a better job of, well, which he has, of kind of relating to fans.
Did you see the story from the girl on Twitter this morning?
I've seen it this morning.
A woman on Twitter, I say, girl, a woman on Twitter said she was driving down Broadway
and saw a person stuck on Broadway out of gas and like holding up traffic.
And the police had come to help the person get gas so they could get out of.
of the road in the middle of Broadway.
And so she was like, when she got to the front, she realized Mark Pope had run out of gas.
No way.
And he was outside on Broadway and the police were having to get him gas.
So first of all, I think that's kind of funny and kind of endearing that like he, like Mark
Pope's like me trying to like squeeze the last fume out before you have to pull over.
And I also would be like, what if you were driving down the road, Drew, and Mark
Pope was in the middle of the road out of gas.
Well, what was all this endless energy talk?
I thought my man didn't run out of energy.
He runs out of fuel.
Is this a metaphor?
Has Mark Pope gone too hard before the season?
I want to know how, though, how no one had stopped to help him but the police.
Like, I would feel like if people saw Mark Pope in the center of the road without gas,
like everyone would stop.
I would have pulled over, gotten the straw out of my cup, and siphoned my own gas into his car
and said, get over to the Joe Craft Center.
Maybe it's just, though, rush hour traffic in Lexington is so.
so bad that you won't even pull over for Mark Pope to get around it.
Well, I actually saw the tweet on my way here, and I have to drive Broadway, and I got on
Ways, and it had me going around a big pile on Broadway.
I might have missed the show because of Mark Pope.
So we think Mark Pope caused a major traffic jam this morning.
I have my route go that way every time, but when I'm cutting it close, I check ways to
be safe there's not problems.
And right over here by Rupp, I don't know if that's where it was.
there was a big red block and it had me detouring.
And I had just seen that tweet that was three minutes old.
So I thought, Mark, that's got to be pulled.
Well, there is an age old question I've had about gas, which is when does your light come on?
Like, when your light comes on, how much more gas do you have left?
I feel like I've pushed it.
I continue to push it because usually for me it happens on the drive from Lexington to Louisville, Louisville to Lexington.
And I know the rest stops, right?
I know, except 28 is Simpsonville, right?
Exit 32 is Shelbyville.
Exit 35 is Shelbyville.
Then 43, we got Wadi-Paitona with a good gas station there.
Then you get to 48, 53, 58, right, like I know.
And there are times that I'll sit there and see the light come on and go,
I think I can get five more miles.
So what is the answer?
How many miles, like how much of your tank is left,
when the light comes up.
I think, just based on my experience, each car is different.
I know, but like, percentage-wise.
My car right now, I know when it comes on, I've got about 40 miles left.
40 miles?
Yes.
I know that's got to be high for most cars, but I know when it comes on, I got 40 still to go.
How about you?
I've never really pushed it.
I kind of, I have a Clark's pumping shop.
I pass every day on Winchester Road.
So you don't push it.
If I'm under half a tank or quarter, I'll just pull in.
Do you remember Kai's Ramsey's advice about gas?
No.
This was one of my favorite.
Kai's, you know, for those of you that don't know Kai's Ramsey, just look it up, like that you
could spend all day watching old Kai's Ramsey videos.
I don't think I have this job without Kaij Ramsey.
I think that's probably.
Kai's Ramsey was one of, like, there's a handful of original OG Kentucky internet superstars,
right?
Oh, H. Napier.
O.H. Napier.
Kaj Ramsey, the, what was the rap kid's name?
Daniel, but what was this rap about Tubby?
You remember? Yeah, no, I'm lazy Tuesday.
Lazy Tuesday.
Yeah, lazy Tuesday.
Yeah, lazy to.
Leach, leach, leach, leech.
Like, those were awesome.
But Kaj was one of them.
And I remember one time, people were complaining that gas prices were too high.
And his advice was, if you want to save money on gas, don't wait until your tank is empty.
Just get gas when it's half full and it won't be as much.
which I love the logic of
it's not as much if you don't buy as much
Drew which I actually
that was his advice on how to save money on gas
I'm about a half tank guy when I fill up
I pay less than you when you fill up your full tank
Kaj's logic is correct I don't think you thought about
going more frequently I go
I go until the last
second oh we know I'll go
until like the light is on
and so my tank
I think it has 17 gallons
And if I, when I go, you know, if it goes to 16.6 or 16.7, I consider it a huge success.
I will never forget the day I was scared to death driving across the Ozarks and we're pulling in and you're already on fumes.
And somehow we still had to go over the Ozarks down.
That was a little dangerous.
You were scared of death because we voted who we were going to eat and all three of us voted you.
So you were going to be our...
Oh, wait a minute.
So maybe just sent me a link.
What do you think about this?
Okay.
High performing people who are aggressive.
tend to wait until their tank is on empty before they pull over.
Mark Pope?
Yeah.
Matt Jones?
Matt Jones?
So Drew, I'm not a high performer.
Drew, a low performer.
What about you?
Do you wait until it's a eat?
Oh, I wait until.
So you and I are high performers, right?
I can't believe you get 40 extra miles.
I know my car is a little high, but I've pulled in before,
and I know I have one mile left, and I pull into a guy.
You know when it's down to a mile.
Well, I look when it comes up.
comes on and I can look at my odometer and say, okay, I got 40 miles.
Really? You do it that much? Yes. Yeah.
Does it ever cross your mind to just be like, I should get gas now instead of driving 40 more miles?
No. Well, part of it for me, though, is let's go back to those exits. There's a different quality of gas stations on the exit.
That's true. Simpsonville is the best one. It's the, Simpsonville is the cheapest gas in the state.
Is it? I think so. Would you agree with that, Freddie? Simpsonville exit 28, cheapest gas in the state.
good info again now who should carry by five cents cheaper but for some reason that matters to people
simpsonville is the cheapest then waddy peatona yeah is cheaper than shelbyville you don't want to
stop in shelbyville more expensive gas i've told you versails has the most expensive gas in the
united states of america the versails gas mafia it's more expensive than it is in lexington or louisville
So you can't get stuck there.
And then I think then Frankfurt right off the exit 58's okay.
There's two new stations there, but I know where to go.
Simpsonville, you've got to be careful, though.
It can be very crowded.
Well, not that.
They are the official gas station of Tennessee Athletics now.
So every time you pump there, you're putting money into the balls.
I thought about that when they named it, pilot, whatever stadium.
See, I didn't know that.
I'm never stopping there again.
Plus, it's very crowded.
The Simpsonville one is very crowded.
Anyway, whoever helped Mark Pope get his gas this morning, congratulations.

Welcome back to Tegu Sports Radio.
I love this.
People are just texting the checks machine with where they think the cheapest gas is.
You're not going to convince me it's less than Simpsonville.
Simpsonville.
Now, Easter Kentucky has some cheaper gas.
Like when you get into like Pikeville and some of those places, you'll find some cheaper
gas. But if I'm talking about this part of the state, I'm fairly sure at Simpsonville. And I believe,
by the way, it's not company by company. Like, I'm a Clark's pumping shop person, but I don't think
it's about the company. I think it's about the town. I genuinely believe the towns get together
because the price varies by town. It does. It doesn't vary so much by station. It varies by town.
So why for sale is so high? I don't know. They're uppity. I think they're uppity.
They think they can charge their highfalutin.
They think they can charge whatever gas prices they want because they're in Versailles.
But they all got together and all decided we're all going to be illegal.
So I don't think they would admit that.
But I do think somehow like they talk to each other and like because everybody knows this listening.
The cities go up and down together.
Yeah.
Like they go up, they go down.
Simpsonville has like one station so you think they would raise it the most, but they don't.
And I don't know why that would be the case.
People are saying you'll burn your fuel pump if you do what we're doing, Ryan.
Oh.
Well, I don't know what a fuel pump is.
You just found out you had one.
Feels like mine's hung on pretty well.
Pretty good so far.
So I don't, I admit that I don't know anything about it.
One person writes, Matt, my wife and I are voting for different people for president.
My wife is voting for Harris.
I'm voting for Trump.
By the way, I think that's a common thing.
Like women tend to be supporting her.
a lot of men support Trump.
She got mad at me in last night and said that I wasn't open-minded and that I don't even have a liberal friend.
I said you were my liberal friend.
Does that count?
Yes.
I'll say it counts.
Yes.
I think that counts.
If they tune in, listen to the show?
You tune in and listen to this.
You're a friend.
As long as you don't send me nasty messages of how terrible I am, yes, I will be your one, you know, moderately liberal friend.
I'm not like way out there, but sort of in the, you know, whatever.
I misinterpreted that.
I thought he was telling his wife, since you're voting for Kamala, you are my liberal
friend.
No, I think she was mad that he didn't like, that's what it sounded to me like.
I don't care if you're what you are to be my friend.
You know, if my friend, no, if I don't care if you're Republican or Democrat.
That should be a T-shirt.
I like that.
Yeah.
Yeah, because you just want to be friends with everyone.
We'll be friends.
One person writes, Matt, has Ryan made any endorsement?
I know usually he tries to endorse someone who's nice to him.
Any endorsements in this race?
I do like Judge Goodwine.
I would publicly endorse her.
That's going to be your one endorsement?
It's my one endorsement, yeah.
Did you, like, read an ad for her?
Is that one of the...
I've known her for several years, and I think she does a quality work, so we're going to endorse her.
I have not...
You know, when it comes to local elections, like, where I vote in Louisville, no clue who's running for anything.
Like, none.
which I know is, it's weird because we all have the strongest opinions about the election that matters the least in terms of our vote, right?
Like, no one in Kentucky, your vote does not matter.
But it might matter for your local race.
And yet I don't even know who's running for any of them.
I couldn't tell you one person that will be on the ballot locally in Louisville except the presidential race.
So are you the person that if you don't know anything?
Anybody you skip it or do you vote your party or do you try to see vote?
Well, I probably, if I don't know, tend to vote the party, but a lot of local elections are nonpartisan.
So how are I've always said how are people's, I mean, do you skip those?
Sometimes I'm just like, that seems like a name of a nice person.
I saw their yard sign.
No, I don't do that.
But there might be somebody if I know the person's yard, I would go, well, that person and I,
tend to think alike.
If you're ever in front of me or behind me at the polls, I am Googling everything in that
five-minute window.
Are you really?
Reading the Harold Leader's primer.
I'm usually figuring it out on the fly.
That makes sense.
But at least do some form of free.
You do some ways.
I'm kind of like, O'Malley, be nice to have a good Irishman.
You know, I've heard the Irish support in a while.
Who's up next?
Luke.
Luke, go ahead, Luke.
What's going on, guys?
I think personally, Bucky's had the cheapest gas,
and just allegedly, I was there on opening days, Smithrose,
and I have one-season.
Yeah, we don't endorse other gas stations,
so this is the answer.
Shout out to Smith or the most of Smith-Roe.
Yeah, my second thought is,
with Mark Stoops being, like, a defensive-minded coach,
and, like, a lot of the Twitter fan-based
wanting John Sumerall.
I guess I just have the opinion of why are we going from like one defensive-minded
coach to another when it seems like...
Well, first of all, we're not going to anything.
I mean, just because people on Twitter want a coach doesn't mean they're coming.
I hope people, you know, we talked about this yesterday, but Twitter is not the real
world.
And just because you hear fans say, come on down, John Summoral, does not mean if Mark Stoombs left,
he would be the coach.
Now, I'd certainly think he'd be as strong.
tender. He might get the job. But, you know, I think there's a sense sometimes from people online
that, like, they decide this. And it's not, that's not true at all. As I said yesterday,
I think if it had been four weeks ago, I think Brad White would have been the most likely
hired. Now, as we continue to lose, that likelihood may be going down. But go ahead.
But why do you think we're going from, or once maybe another defensive-minded coach?
I mean, I don't think we, why do you think we're the only program that, I mean, I don't know all the programs' histories, but I think there are other programs that have hired defensive coaches.
Yes, but I mean, I guess that just thing in the offense, you know, kind of we've all, like y'all said earlier, like the magic number was just like 21 points on the board.
The defensive-minded coaches can still have good offenses if they get the right offensive coordinator and all that.
So I appreciate the call.
Do you believe what Mark Stoops said yesterday about play calling?
Said he doesn't get involved unless asked.
Because they asked him about play calling inside the 20.
And he said, I do not get involved unless asked.
What do you think of that?
I thought he contradicted himself pretty bad because 10 seconds later he said something like I told him to punch it in.
I mean, he literally said, I don't tell him what to do.
and I think in the same response
said I told him we're punching it in
or something like that so he contradicted himself in that answer
so I'm just as confused as I was before he said it
Drew's right I think the word he used was pound it
he goes yeah got in the headsoning
and pound it run the ball
yeah so I didn't hear that part
so he's so you're saying
I have the full quote give me
okay I'll tell you what
John I'd like for you to play the actual
audio is that audio online
I'm reading it but I'm sure we could dig it
All right, John, we'll find the audio, and we'll send it to you because I'd like for you to play it if that's okay.
That's fine.
Yeah, because I do want to hear it.
Yeah.
But I do think there's a sense of when the play calling is not what he wants.
He'll get on, he'll interrupt.
Inject his-
Which is fine.
He has a right to do that.
But then when I asked about the play calling, he'll say, I don't get into the play calling.
There is a sense.
I've always felt like it kind of was like that a little bit.
He did say whatever you're going to do, and Hamid said, I'm going to throw it.
I said, do it.
But, I mean, there was a part I'm still digging for it where he said pounded a lot.
All right, we'll find it.
John, we'll take a break.
Be right back.

UKFCU.org. One person writes, Matt, I was on Broadway, saw Mark Pope. He was standing outside,
waving at people, and they were honking at him while they went by. But were they stopping to help him?
I mean, I'm sure he appreciated the honks. There's something about him being so tall that just adds to this, too,
because you probably saw him from a little farther way than you would have seen anyone else.
Probably just a little bit more of a scene with gigantic Mark Pope in the middle of one of the busiest roads on a Tuesday morning.
Yeah, driving up you. I think, who is this tall?
monster out there just walking around the street. I'm going to call him a monster. It's like that big,
those things that go out in front of your business, then wave their arms up. Why are you acting
like he's like a freak? That's our basketball coach. He's not like the thing that's in front
of a gas station. He's a super tall one of those air things in front of a speedway or Clark's
pumping shop waving their arms. Well, now they shouldn't have given you tickets behind the bench.
This is his opening night and you're going to say that about it. Was he waving his arms?
Yeah. Matt said the person he's waving his arms at him.
I didn't know. I said people were waving at him and he was waving back.
I didn't say he was out there just throwing his arms and legs around.
Quite the traffic hazard.
859-2802287. By the way, Louisville shot 56 threes last night.
My goodness.
You know, when Kentucky and Louisville play, that could be a lot of things.
three's taking 56 threes last night against young friends.
Young friends.
I didn't see any of that.
I don't know how they're going to play.
Just seeing the competition they played and them taking 56 threes,
that sounds like a wild game.
I'm sure it was.
The tallest guy on their opponent's team was like 6'3.
Did it bother you or make you it all a little whatever that Liam Cohen?
I mean, I was watching, apparently Joe Buck and Troy Aitman were very pro Liam Cohen.
I was watching the mannings in Belichick.
and apparently did Joe Buck say that Liam Cohen told him about the second time back to Kentucky
that you can't go home again?
Yeah, yeah.
That's not good.
The opening drive, they praised Liam Cohen for about 10 minutes straight and told that story how Liam said he can't go back home again.
And then they go up 10 to nothing.
I'm thinking, oh, my goodness, this is going to be a Liam Cohen coming out party.
Well, then their wide receivers both got hurt.
Mike Evans and Godwin, which may be bad for him.
but a lot of Liam Cohen praise.
I mean, Peyton Manning said during, when I watched, he was like he's going to be a head coach in a few years.
Baker Mayfield said best offensive mind I've worked with.
I mean, there was, you're just sitting there and after watching us not be able to score more than 20 points,
just hearing them constantly praising Liam Cohen.
Drew, I mean, you can't help but have it sting a little.
Yeah, I mean, just last week I watched Good Morning Football NFL Network.
They did a whole bit about him, named him their coach of the week.
Normally it's a head coach.
They gave it to an assistant.
So I've already seen a lot of that.
Bucks fans and not just a few of them want to fire Todd Bowles and just slide Liam Cohen in.
Head coach.
I will tell you, the first time I talked to Liam Cohen, and this was his first time here,
I think I may have said to you guys, like, that dude's going to be good.
He's smart.
And, you know, to me, if you're smart, you got a head start on pretty much.
much everything and you could tell the first time you talked to him, he was smart. Now, I always
thought he was nice. I always liked him. I always thought he was smart. Towards the end,
I'm not sure that, like, he was always telling you the truth when he talked to you, but in
terms of being intelligent, I think he's that. All right, so we have the sound. Here's what Mark
Stoop said about play call. Criticism is fair, but, you know, I don't get involved in play call. And
But they did ask me on the one, on the three, when we had a person go on the three.
And I absolutely said pounded, like pound the rock.
And we did.
And we scored.
You know what I mean?
Like let's not get cute now.
We can be physical.
We can run it in here.
I told them they had four downs because it was first in goal.
So I said, let's not out think this.
You know, on the others, I didn't say word.
You know, I mean, I said, you know, call what you want to call.
I thought he made a great call on the four.
than two. You know, the weird discussion.
So, I mean, he, that's actually not inconsistent because what he said is I only tell
them if they ask, and he says in that comment that they asked. Now, it is a little like
the time we scored, I said it. Well, he did say I don't get involved and then said, I mean,
he was they asked. But he did say, they asked. But that's getting involved.
Yeah, but I mean, if your assistant coach asked you, you got to answer that. I'm not putting
that on him. I mean, if if the offense coordinator goes, what do you think, coach?
You're not going to go, I don't get involved. I mean, I'm okay with him doing that.
I actually, I didn't hear the quote until right then. I actually don't think that's
inconsistent, to be honest. And you know, when Cohen was here last year, he said that Stoops
was not involved play calling. Scangarillo, before that said Stoops was not involved
a play calling. But then you do wonder, why is it that these dudes have so much success when
they're not here? I mean, Skangarello was considered a quarterback savant.
and then we were awful offensively when he was here.
Like it's, it is what it is.
Who's up next?
John.
John.
John. Go ahead, John.
I'm on the other side of this, but I wanted to make a defense of Mark Stoops,
even if he goes three and nine this year.
Okay.
Okay.
So as Nick Saban once said, if you pay the wrong players, you're out of luck.
It seems that Mark Stubes may have gotten the wrong guys in,
and they've created a culture of undiscipline, allowing to store players,
get treatment, which has kind of led to an overall lack of production from quality talent.
But that's his call.
Ultimately, that is on him.
That's his call.
And first of all, I don't know if I totally agree with you on that.
I mean, the players that, like, which of the transfers that they brought in do you think,
which are the transfers do you think don't have a good attitude?
I mean, the captains on the offense and defense are transfers,
and we haven't heard anything negative about their attitudes.
Well, yeah, it's not been transfers because this problem comes from three years ago.
It seems to have come in when Barryham Brown and Dionne Walker coming into the program.
You can see it on the field, them taking plays off and other players looking at them like, hey, why are you doing this?
They seem not to be getting called out for or getting disappointed for it, and that seems to have transpired everywhere.
Those are our star players, and if they're not getting called out for this, then it's just kind of transpired for the whole team.
Okay, so let's go back.
I appreciate the call.
let's go back to Lynn Bowden.
Okay.
Lynn Bowden, there was a different set of rules for Lynn Bowden and everyone else.
Lynn Bowden literally parked in Mark Stoop's parking spot.
That says all you need to know right there.
Lynn Bowden would literally pull up and he would park in Mark Stoop's parking spot
and he would leave his car and all the players saw that.
But you know what?
They were really good.
I mean, Max has talked about it.
They knew Lynn drove him crazy.
They didn't think it was fair.
But they knew when Lynn got on the field, he was going to do Lynn Bowden things.
And they didn't question his toughness.
And he said, you know, basically they were like, oh, well.
Shows up on Saturday.
He shows up on Saturday.
Ultimately, even if what the whispers are about the way certain players,
are treated. If they came out and played, I think Ryan, people get over it.
Yeah. If you saw the two players that the caller mentioned not taking plays off,
they probably would be able to look past some of those concerns.
Well, that's true. I don't know if Lynn Bowden. I don't think anybody would say
took plays off. I don't either. So, but it's just interesting to see, like,
different treatment did not cause that team because, I mean, Lynn Bowden,
when I say he would come in and park and mark, I want you just think,
about that parking in the head coach's parking spot but because on the field he did what he did
people just kind of move past it so i do think drew it's more about the on field than it is even
like treatment off the feet yeah lynn was a unique case heard some interesting stories from that
but i mean he was a one-man offense pretty much in their winning game so what are you really going to
do about it he he he's unique in that i i think a part of the big problem is you know you hear stories
about some of these guys not giving it all in practice.
And that stuff over time, even going back to the spring, it just turns up in games.
Coaching the game is not just those couple hours on the field.
It's the preparation all week.
And if guys aren't 100% focused and listening to you and doing what they're supposed to do on Monday,
that might leak out on Saturday and you see some of the problems UK football has.
So I think the Stoops culture of, I'm not saying let people park in the spots,
but maybe not getting 110% from everybody every practice come Saturday.
If they haven't been putting in the preparation, they're just behind.
at that point.
Who's up next?
Tyler.
Tyler got about a minute.
Go ahead.
All right.
I'll try to make this quick.
I don't say this is any malice,
but I do not believe Mark Steve,
so he doesn't get involved in play calling,
and I've got some stats with previous offensive coordinators at UK to back it up.
So Shannon Dawson, when he was at West Virginia,
his team's passing yards per game, average 317.
At UK, it was 209.
This year at Miami, it's 400.
Bush Handen last year,
221 at Boise State this year so far 168.
Neil Brown, Texas Tech 355, his one year at UK, 231, when he went back to West Virginia, 277.
Even Eddie Grant, 2015 Cincinnati, 360 passing yards per game.
His highest he had at UK was 2017, 188.
It just is what it is.
Those are interesting.
I mean, those are pretty, that's interesting.
Those are pretty damning numbers.
You know, I don't think I'd ever heard them put out like that.
Assuming those numbers are correct, and Tyler, I don't have any reason to believe they're not.
I appreciate the call.
That's, yeah.
I mean, those numbers are what they are.
I'm a numbers guy.
They are what they are.
He may not say call this play in this moment, but there's no doubt he wants a certain kind of offense,
and he wants it done a certain kind of way.
And I've heard a couple people tell me the critical.
criticism of this team is he has built this team for his style and they can't do it and they can't do it
and that's why he needs to do something else and i would still say we looked the best last week when
they were like spread it out and thought i mean we did those drives i just don't know that this
team can pound the rock like mark stoop's would like i do believe he wants to play a certain way right
yeah when you got guys like bennie snell and chris rodriguez you can do that but we don't have
We don't have that guy.

Welcome back at East Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280, 2287.
Matt Jones, Ryan Lemon, Drew Franklin.
Got three questions here.
Let me read it.
All right, let's do it.
Ready?
Number one.
Matt, you've said what you said about Stoops, maybe not being here next year.
Give me the over, under, on years of Mark Pope being the coach in Kentucky.
Ooh.
Hmm.
Had put much thought of that yet, actually.
Well, let's just let me.
I'll set the over under.
You give the answer.
If I set it at five and a half.
Over.
Way over.
I'm going to go over.
I think I really think he's a guy that could be here over 10 years.
Okay.
To me, I think it's like it's an over if you think he's going to succeed here.
Yeah.
Because he's not going to, I don't think he's leaving.
You know what I mean?
Like, I don't think there's a, he's not going to call.
Yeah, there's not another job he's going to take.
I don't think he's going to be a pro coach.
So if you think he's going to succeed, then it's over.
If you don't think he's going to succeed, then it's under.
You know, so the question just becomes, it's really more, for me, a referendum on whether or not you think it's going to work.
Because if you think it's going to work, Ryan, he'll be here more than five and a half years.
So what was your thought process picking five and a half?
Because I think you're just trying to ask, is it going to work or not, right?
Yeah.
I mean, I honestly think it's a yes or no question.
Does it work?
Because if it doesn't work, they're not going to, he's not going to be here six years.
You know what I mean?
Like this program can't lose for five years.
Like it just can't.
So, like, this year, I think he has a grace that we have not seen a coach have since Rick's first year.
After probation with Eddie Sutton.
I'm serious.
I think he has a grace that Cal never had because Cal was a victim of the fact that he brought in Wall, cousins.
And so, like, people expected to win immediately.
Yep.
I think Billy, people kind of expected Tubby hadn't been great, but he'd been to the tournament every year,
so there was an assumption like you at least got to do that, Billy.
I think Tubby had a ton of expectations right off the bat and then won a national championship.
I think you have to go back to Rick's first year to find a time a coach will have been given as much grace as Pope will be given this year.
I like that argument.
I think you're dead on with that.
And then Rick and the guys that he ended up being very, very successful, people fell in love with that team.
That's what can happen with these guys, I think.
I really do.
I think we're going to fall in love with this team.
Do you think the fans, Drew, will be fine as long as they make the tournament?
Meaning like people will go in next year, still going, Pope's our guy, so long as they make the tournament.
That's kind of what I think.
Yeah.
I mean, he was putting a tough spot.
NIL and the transfer
transfer portal helped,
but to have to hire an entire staff
and go find 12 players
and what he'd be like a month and a half?
That's a big ask of anyone. I don't care.
Kentucky, whatever you're doing, how much money you have.
I mean, you can't go out and get high school kids
because you haven't been recruiting them for the last year. Most of them are gone.
He had to just pretty much do strictly portal,
find coaches, throw it all together on the fly.
So I think in year one, as long as it just doesn't
absolutely suck, a lot of people still be on board.
I agree with that.
The next question.
Matt, you said a couple weeks ago, 60-40 Harris.
Are you still there?
55-45.
Really?
Yeah.
I mean, I honestly, I think anybody that tells you they know what's going to happen, though, is wrong.
I think it's a complete and total toss-up.
I think there's, if you want to find signs that Harris is going to win, they're out there.
If you want to find signs that Trump's going to win, they're out there.
I think it's going to be no idea.
Two weeks from today.
I do think, though, whoever wins, it'll be like clear.
There are either a silent group of people that are going to go vote for Trump
or there's a silent group of women that are going to vote for Harris and we'll find out the day it happens.
I think it's decided, though.
Does that make sense?
Yes.
I think everybody's, I think it's decided.
It's just a matter of we have to wait two weeks to find out what it is.
So, I don't know.
Who's next?
Bluegrass.
Bluegrass, what's up?
I'll tell you what, Matt, up here in Eastern Kentucky, now we are excited for basketball.
Okay, so I want to hear that, Bluegrass.
Eastern Kentucky, I have heard that there is an excitement that there hasn't been in a while.
Is that right?
Well, you know, it's just, it's been our DNA here.
You know, we're kids taking rims off the box and putting them on trees and shooting on dirt court.
I mean, we're just.
But is it more now than it was three years ago?
Oh, Lord, yes.
Oh, for sure.
Well, you know, for a while, it's been like everywhere else.
They were wanting pals one-on-one to go away.
They really were.
But I'm telling you, what, the Blue White game, even though we didn't hit shots,
I mean, you've seen things you really wanted to see.
You wanted to see ball movement.
You wanted to see floor space.
Like, you wanted to see the floor space.
You wanted to see, like, that up-tempo.
It's going to work now.
I think they did everything right.
I think the Blue White did everything right, Ryan,
except make shots, which is still important, but like they didn't shoot particularly well,
but everything else, Bluegrass, I agree with you, was exciting.
Yes.
I grew up in that 96, 97, 98.
I was in college then, and, you know, that's why I've sort of kept in touch with Pope.
Like, I've watched him at BYU.
Well, remember Utah Valley?
He had Cal.
Yeah, he was good at Utah Valley, too.
Yeah.
All right, well, Blue Guys, I got to go.
We got to go to break.
But thank you.
859-2-802.
2287. I do.
There is a,
fans are just more excited.
But you got to win.
Guy said that, you know, they had the tip-off dinner last night down at Rupp.
Said maybe the largest crowd they've ever had in years.
The tip-off dinner at Rupp and in Louisville, that had kind of dissipated a little bit.
Not this year.
Nope.
They've gotten crowds like old school these last couple years.
We'll take a break.
