Nice to see you, sir.
We got some folks here from Georgetown.
Where are you from, my man?
Harrensburg, Georgetown and Herdsburg in the house here.
Good Kentucky towns right there.
That's exactly right.
Good Kentucky.
Yes, they are.
That's exactly right.
At KYSports Radio.
One person writes, Matt, did you feel like Mark Stoops is getting frustrated?
Yesterday he said he couldn't talk as freely as normally because people take his quotes out of context.
I did see that.
I'm not sure what quotes he's talking about.
That's never a good sign when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when, when,
coaches are saying stuff like that.
You remember Cal used to say stuff like that.
Towards the end, everything was out of context.
You know, people can get taken out of context.
I don't know what we would have been saying.
I think he was upset about the shoes stuff, wasn't he?
Going super viral.
But I mean, if you're an SEC football team and you say you're running back,
can't tie his shoes, that's going to go viral.
I'm sorry, like saying that out loud.
People are going to notice that.
Right?
People are going to notice that, you know, when you say they don't talk to,
When you say that you can't tie shoes, people are going to notice you can't tie shoes.
I did notice.
I didn't hear all of his call-in show, but hearing the press conference and some of it and reading the recap.
A lot of similarities in the Calipari and just say he's not going to talk as much.
He's now doing, put it on me, not the players.
It's one of those things like, well, a lot of people are putting it on you.
Yeah.
There's a lot of similarities.
There is a little of that, isn't there?
Yeah.
All right, so Georgia and Texas, you know, the game, there was that really weird scenario at the end of the game where they threw stuff on the field, which led to a delay, which then led to the referees reversing the call.
Texas has said they are, the SEC fined them $250,000 and said, and said that they would.
Tell her that we got the game.
Okay.
I don't know what else I have to do that.
You can't throw stuff on the field.
Yeah.
And the SEC said, you all have to find out who these kids were that threw stuff on the field,
and then they have to be banned from the games.
Now, there was a report.
They were like fake text message that came out that acted like they had sent it.
They haven't yet.
Do you like banning those students from coming to games anymore?
If you can find out who they were, yes.
That just, just unacceptable.
You just do not do that.
It's going to be kind of hard to figure that out.
Because, you know, a big student section there, and it's coming all over the place.
You think they can pinpoint exactly the person?
Okay, you're in row 5, C2.
Who is in row 5 seat two?
Well, I mean, presumably if there are cameras, you can see their face.
I mean, I assume that's what they're going to do.
I don't know if they have cameras or not.
The SEC, though, was like, and if you do it again,
then you all could like it like be banned from having a game with fans or something like they seem
serious about it Matthew McConaughey wrote a letter when you got him getting involved
he called it a bogey move what does that mean just sounds like Matthew McConaughey
a bogey move he's calling it a bogey that they were throwing bottles that a phrase but the fact
that he had to tell students a guy that's you know not even that involved with texas he thinks it's
that bad I saw a Georgia dog nation your friends at dog nation
Oh, Dog Nation.
They were doing a little video on the field, which that's pretty cool.
Congrats to them.
They get to do that in Georgia.
But one of the bottles broke their actual camera.
It's in pieces.
So, I mean, they were doing some damage.
One of the bottles broke their camera.
Wow.
Those cameras aren't cheap.
That's interesting.
All right, so here's my question.
What's the worst thing you've ever done at a game?
Like, if you look back and you're honest about it, what's the worst thing you've done as a fan at a game?
I have Drew's answer if he can't remember.
I used to be a awful heckler.
I mean, I would just absolutely break guys down.
Baseball usually in the outfield.
Big heckler.
I can't think of any specific ones.
Probably couldn't say him on radio if I did,
but I was the obnoxious guy for a while.
Especially at a baseball game.
Haven't you been punched at a game twice?
One was a Yukon fan, and if I told you all why I got punched,
all of you would be in the same situation.
They called someone I was with a word we don't say to people.
But, yeah, that was a one-off.
But I was asked to leave a Reds game before for yelling at an outfielder.
You, like, you're the only person I know that's, you were asked for leave a Reds game for yelling at an outfielder?
Do you remember the outfielder?
Griffey, I think.
Oh, you were yelling at Griffey?
No, maybe it wasn't Griffey.
It was a whole group of us.
About six of us all left at once.
Okay, and then you were in a Blue Jays game and you got kicked out for drinking.
But you were there with me at that one.
I was.
And was anything inappropriate there?
No.
They even pointed at a bottle in our row that was eight seats down that didn't even belong to us.
Yeah.
But it's hard to get, it's hard to get kicked out of a pretty much empty baseball game for being too rowdy.
That's how empty it was.
They could see a bottle just on concrete and it had to be one of three people.
All right.
Ryan, what about you?
Have you ever had like some really rowdy thing?
Well, a guy broke my jaw after the South Carolina football game, getting into a little kerfuffle.
Yes, but you don't remember that, right?
No, I never even saw it.
When I came to, I was on the sidewalk.
But have you ever done something in a game that you were embarrassed, you did, in hindsight?
I can't remember a thing.
Now, when I was coaching my kids, I yelled at some umpires.
That probably was a little embarrassing.
Yeah, is it that?
Through the baseball that accidentally hit a little Morgan Matthews head.
You hit a child in the head, a little girl, actually, in the head with a baseball.
Little Morgan Matthews, yeah.
That covers it.
Okay.
About you?
Uh, you know, I mean, like in hindsight, if you think,
Think about the things you say to strangers.
I mean, I've pretty much told Doug Shows, I've given him the here and now on the court before.
I remember when I was a kid, I didn't know anyone in sports except John Clockerty.
And I'd be like, that John Clockerty and Don Rutledge, you know, those dudes are jerks.
I used to like, John Clockerty, poor man, I don't even know where he is now, but like he was a four-letter word to me and my grandfather.
Most of Kentucky.
John Clockerty, there was no ref that Kentucky fans dislike more.
How about some of your displays at the Transylvania basketball games when you were a student?
What do you mean displays?
What did I do?
You were the guys over there yelling and screaming and making.
I was keeping stats.
Oh, I thought you were one of the guys that were in the stands.
No, no, no, no.
Although, remember, people don't.
Transy got some crowds back into that.
Huge.
I mean, the Transy Georgetown game.
sold out was an underrated sporting event in the city in its prime no doubt those teams were both
nia ia ii powers trancy georgetown was a wild atmosphere you could not get a ticket it was sold out
no matter where it was it was Georgetown or trancy was so packed it was one of the best games of the year
yeah so i hate that that isn't there anymore but it but that used to be great who's up next
edie edie how are you eating great getting excited about basketball
I thought football was going to be a little better, but, you know, a little disappointment.
That's okay, Edy. What do you got?
I just got back from a tattoo convention.
Okay.
I got to see All seven inkmasters.
That's pretty sweet.
What does that mean all seven ink masters?
Yeah.
So, Inkmasters, you're not familiar with it.
No, that's why I asked you.
What is that meant?
But you say there's only seven.
Is it like a television show?
Not seven.
I'm sorry.
I didn't mean to say seven.
But all of the, each season's winner was there this year.
Oh, okay.
It was pretty cool.
EDI, do you have a lot of tattoos?
I have like six.
Six.
Okay.
All right.
Well, good.
Well, I'm glad you got to meet all the Inkmasters.
Did you feel like you were there with celebrities?
Actually, there was a few celebrities.
there and, you know, I actually got pulled over on the way home for somebody stole my temporary
tags off my car.
And so five minutes from the house, we get pulled over after like an eight-hour drive.
So you're saying at the tattoo convention, somebody stole your temporary license plate?
I can't say that it was at the convention because I didn't look when we were leaving the
convention. Like we packed the car, then we went back and hang out with all of our friends
because we go every year. And then we just got in the car and left.
I'm sorry that happened to you, Edy, but it's nice to hear from you, and I hope you're doing
well. Can I give a shout out to J.D. Adams? He listens to you guys every day.
Yeah, we don't like shoutouts, but I'll let that one have gone. I appreciate it, Ead. Thank you.
Thank you very much.
on on that phone call a lot
she did have a lot going
wow tattoo convention ink masters
by the way I watched the first two
episodes of secret lives
of Mormon wives
whoa those people are crazy
like how I didn't I had no idea
I haven't seen an episode but just
walking past the TV while Abby's watching
it while I'm doing something and catching 15
seconds of conversation that is a weird
thing I had no idea I had no idea
I had no idea that they're, forget about the Mormon part, that there were just people like that.
I had no, I had no clue.
Is this an Uncle Matt recommendation?
No, no, it's not good.
I'm not going to watch any more of it.
I will tell you a show that I do think is good.
It's on Hulu, and it's called Rivals.
Okay.
Just as like a British show, it's kind of funny, but a drama about like the 1980s.
It's not for everybody, but I bet, Drew, I bet you like it.
It's called Rivals.
just came out like last week.
I recently just finished all my shows, so I'm in the spot.
I think you like that.
And then slow horses, I've been saying over and over, but I'm a big fan of that.
Who's next?
David.
David, go ahead, David.
Yeah, yeah, good.
How you doing, guys?
Good.
What's up?
Yeah, man.
Hey, I want to come to Stoops.
I want to come to his side on this because Stoops is a good coach.
He's his best coach we've had here in my lifetime, and I'm 65, okay?
Not even close.
You said good for 60.
These people saying, listen, listen, he's, these coaches dad, that's how they look at him.
And when I was a boy, I played Little League baseball at South Lexington.
And in practice, I could hit it out of the dang park.
I can hit it a mile.
But then the game come, I come to bat, and my dad was at the game, and I get so nervous, I couldn't hit it.
I'd shake and shake and say, I want to do so good from my dad.
And then when I get to the play, I'd strike out.
I'll say, why am I striking out?
And I didn't know, but now I figured out because I was trying to prove much to my dad.
how good I was, that I can hit the ball out of the damn park.
And these guys are trying to play their best ball for Coach Stoops, because they look at him as a dad.
Okay, let's assume what you're saying is correct, though, but like, then your job as a coach is that they need to be loose because at the end of the day, ultimately we need to win.
Yeah, but they get nervous, man.
It changes my back couldn't hit the ball.
Okay, well, I'm sorry.
You weren't able to hit the ball, but like some of these.
teams were playing, they're probably nervous, but they're coming up and playing well.
That's actually true, but I mean, they're playing the best for the coach because they look
at him as dad. They say, dad put me in the game, whatever position you want me in a dad,
and I'm going to play my best ball for you if I mess up. I'm sorry. That's just a way it is
in ball, in sports, guys. It's the way it works.
I appreciate the call. Do you think the players are nervous? I actually think one of the
strong parts about stoops is that the players are usually kind of loose to me for better or
worse. I don't think they play tight very often.
I know what he's trying to say, but for this UK football team, I don't think, you know,
some guys maybe not giving the best effort at times has anything to do with being nervous
and playing for him and the guys that maybe are missing their assignments and taking plays
off. I don't think that has to do with them being nervous. I don't think, I don't know what
the there's wrong with this team when they can't bring the fight.
get punched. They don't punch back sometimes. I just, I don't know what the answer is. Do you get the
sense, I mean, again, you're around players more than I certainly am. Do you get the sense that
that the people on the team understand what's happening? Or are they as confused as anybody in terms of
why they're not having the success? And I haven't talked to anybody since the Florida game,
but I know after the Vandy game, I think nobody had an answer. Like nobody had a sense of what is wrong,
what's going on right now. So maybe that's,
Has it changed?
I don't know.
Yeah, that's what makes it kind of frustrating is it doesn't feel like anybody can really pinpoint why is this not working.
Even Freddie and I talked about it.
Even, you know, when Freddie has a hard time coming up with it, he knows football better than any of us.
It's just not working.
All right, on TV there.
Shams.
Do you know who Shams is?
Shams is the like, okay, he's right there.
He's the new Wojjj, all right, on ESPN.
He's the NBA guy.
Can I tell you what Shams does that drives me crazy?
What's that?
He reports news and then goes, like he'll go,
Ryan Lemon has signed a new deal with the L.A. Lakers.
It was negotiated by Blake Jenkins.
Who cares who it was negotiated by?
He always says that because he gets the scoops from them in exchange.
But that annoys, but that annoys me.
Jake Jenkins is not the news and he does that all the time and I don't like it, Drew.
I don't like that we've, that we, I should not know the agent's name.
He includes it just about every time and usually when I see it, I think, well,
that's where you got the story.
I got to dinner with him tonight.
I retweeted it and said, thank you for letting me know who the agent was and then I realized,
well, he's my coworker at ESPN.
I should probably take that down.
I have a different Shams take right now.
With our broadcast we just had on SEC Network, the cameras, I think,
ESPN has spent every penny they have on Pat McAvey, Shams, and maybe Stephen A, and there's just no one left to work for the company.
You better watch your back if Shams wants any more money.
Well, I'm not going to say that just let me know who Stephen A's agent is.
That's really what we all care about.
Hey, BBN, you wouldn't want to buy tickets to big game and then not go.

Welcome back to Eastports Radio.
All right, so you know, there's two kinds of country I like.
Yes.
I like old school.
Turned up a little bit, John.
I can't even hear it.
A little bit like Merle, Johnny Cash.
etc, which is now like the modern versions like Tyler Childers.
Yes.
And then I like 80s and 90s like George Strady country.
So this dude, he was at Manchester Music Hall like three or four weeks ago.
And remember I told you, I saw that crowd and I was like, who is this guy named Zach Top?
Never heard of him until that night.
And now he shows up on my TikTok.
And he sings, I mean, I'm sure he sings his own stuff.
But he sings these covers of 80s and 90s country songs.
And he sounds like a country singer from the 80s.
and 90s. He does. And I like it. Turned up a little bit right here. Doesn't that sound like an 80 or 90s country
singer? If you had not told the story, that's exactly what I would have said. That guy is from the 80s.
So he's singing this song that I really like from the 80s that nobody talks about. All that Glitters is and Not Gold from Dan Seals.
There's a name you haven't heard in a long time. But listen to the chorus and listen how he does his voice like a good 80s singer. Are you ready?
Right here you go. I mean, that's 80s country right there. And I love it. And he's a
young guy, I'm a fan now.
Didn't even know who he was until he was across the street from my house and I saw him
out the door.
Now I wish I'd gone.
Ryan, I think I have a new person I like.
What?
That's 80s country right there.
No doubt.
Anybody does that in the middle of the song, you know exactly what era they're singing in.
I've been listening to a little Zach Top.
He even has like the, I don't know what's the instrument.
Yeah, he's got that little thing.
And I don't know what you called.
The little slide.
And he's like John Anderson and Mark Chestnut.
And like, people don't sing like that anymore.
Nope.
That's kind of like Pass A.
And now there's this kid out there doing it.
And so I've decided I'm a fan.
And women seem to like him because, you know, he's handsome with the mullet and the mustache.
But like, I like the kind of old school thing there.
But he's a young guy.
Young guy.
But look up his cover of, I don't think he recorded, but everything that glitters isn't gold.
I think it's even better than Dan Seals version, which I didn't really.
I think was possible.
859-2-80-22-87.
Who's up next?
Chris.
Chris, go ahead, Chris.
Yeah, I got a story about fan misbehavior.
Okay.
When I was in, back in the 90s, I had a buddy who got married.
We had a guy in our friend group who could get great tickets to stuff through his employer.
So for the bachelor party, we went down to Atlanta.
We had fifth row center tickets for a hawks game.
they were playing the Lakers
and it was Kobe Bryant's
rookie year so he didn't even play that much
but we were pretty much rooting for the hawks
but every time one guy
touched the ball he were booing
our butts off
and the people around us started to get
kind of mad at us and they said
why are you booing the hawks
and we said well
we're from Kentucky
and it was Christian
Leightner
No, well, that's fine.
I think booing Christian Leitner every time would be completely acceptable.
And I would think the Hawks fans would want to boo him because everyone dislikes Christian Leitner.
He did not have a good game that day, and he looked kind of frustrated, and we like to think that it was because of it.
I think it was you.
Well, I appreciate the call.
I did that once where I just booed a player every time they touched it.
You know, I told you, I went to every Duke game.
when I was in law school and cheered against them every game.
But there was one game where they were playing Villanova,
and Michael Bradley was on Villanova.
And I didn't like Michael Bradley.
Yes.
From his time here where he had, like, kind of been rude to my friend,
I booed him every single time he got the ball,
and I think he scored like 34 points.
It had to be Michael Bradley's best game as a college player.
You know, remember he ended up getting drafted.
and playing in the NBA.
Yes, he did.
So I think he owes his NBA success from that game to you.
It was like the only great game he ever had,
and it was the one where I just sat there and booed him the whole time.
I want to show that guy sitting over there booing at me what I'm all about.
In 2007, my friends and I, we got Joe Kim Noah to flip us off
when we were in the middle of the eruption zone.
He's warming up, and I can't remember what we were yelling,
but it was nonstop.
I mean, the whole eruption zone was Joe Kim Noah.
Everybody hated him.
We got a little middle finger from him.
It felt like a little prize.
A guy who writes me about country music a lot,
And this is right.
He says, Zach Top is the real damn deal.
He used to play Bluegrass.
I think he's a little bit like Keith Whitley.
That's sacrilege to a lot of people.
But he kind of reminds me of Keith Whitley just a little bit.
Kentucky's own Keith Whitley.
Funny you say that because you brought him up, I was going to mention
after hearing Zach a lot, the first time I saw a picture of him,
I was so disappointed he didn't have a little curly wet mullet in Zach.
Yes.
Yeah, you're exactly right.
Speaking of hair, did you see the poor,
Texas students hair.
Oh, yeah.
Have you not seen it?
The Guardian.
He looks like there's a student in Texas who looks like Conway Twitty.
No.
No, I'm serious.
You didn't see this kid?
I mean, I'm not trying to be mean, but you're going to be a little mean.
Like, first of all, it's awesome.
He's not as a joke.
This is like his real hair.
He's just watching the game living his life.
I got to find his hair.
Where's his hair?
I got him right here.
Okay.
Look at that.
Oh, my goodness.
That's Conway Twitty.
That is Conway Twitty hair.
My great aunt boots is right now somewhere in heaven talking about how much she loves
caught.
Look at that hair.
Oh, that's some great hair right here.
People are saying he's butt head, but no, that's Conway Twitty's hair right there.
That's a lot of hair right there.
You can't put a hat on that.
You do not see people with that haircut anymore.
No, you don't.
My goodness.
Yeah, I love it.
Whoever you are, kid, be you.
Keep being you.
Be proud of who you self.
to Ryan Lemon. That's what you do. We will take a break.
859-280-2287. It's Kentucky Sports Radio.
John Anderson's another one like that.
Perfect.
Perfect.
This song, too, displays that.
Yeah.
That was also for the exact topic, if you're discovering him, he does two dozen roses.
A version of that Shinandoah song, If I had two, you know that one?
Yes.
He does a version of that. That's great, too.
Okay.
Look them up.
I'm looking up today.
You better. If you don't, I'm going to be very angry at you.
The NBA starts tonight.
Did you know that?
I did know that.
NBA starts tonight.
So two questions.
First of all, the late game, Lakers versus somebody.
Rob.
Lakers.
Yeah, so you get Lakers versus Dillingham.
Brony versus Rob.
All right, so here's my question.
There are people out there that think they're going to play Brony tonight for a minute or two,
so they have that moment and then send him to the G League.
They want to have the moment just in case he doesn't come back,
and then he's gone.
Do you think that happens?
Yep.
Middle of the second quarter, they'll put him in for just a little run,
just to get that.
Everybody's get their video, their shot, their camera shot at the LeBron and Brony together.
Then he maybe disappeared ground at the G-League.
That's exactly what's happening.
They already announced Ken Griffey, Jr. and senior are going to the game.
So they have to play, right?
They're going to make this a photo-op.
Bronn can have his moment, and then will you please just let the Lakers try to win basketball?
And then are you going to send him down, like right after the game?
I think they should send him down as soon as they take the picture.
Take the jersey off.
Before the end of the game?
We got your picture.
Take the jersey off.
Go sit by your mom.
All right, so you do get to see Dillingham on national TV tonight.
So everybody should turn it on.
He will play.
Do you think the Bronon-Libron-Brony thing is sweet?
I know you're a dad.
Do you think that's a sweet moment that's going to happen?
Be the first time it's ever happened in the NBA.
Yeah, I think it's a great moment.
You know, he probably doesn't deserve to be there.
But just for that moment, you don't have to keep him up there the whole season.
Let the two be on the floor at the same time.
Let him have that moment.
And then you can send him down.
And then get out.
Okay, all right. Now, NBA, we do this every year. Give me your NBA finals.
Who's going to play? I'm going to go, I'll go first, let you think about it.
I'm going to go Celtics, Thunder. I think Shea Alexander gets to the championship,
and I'm going to say Celtics and Thunder probably. I don't know who wins, probably the Celtics,
but that's going to be my pick. What about you?
The Celtics was the first team I thought of, but I'll try to pick somebody different.
So I'll go, I'll go 76ers.
I mean, you got Paul George, Maxie, yeah.
I go 76ers, and I'll go the T-Wolves.
T-Wol.
It's not a crazy pick, although don't have Carl anymore.
Remember that.
Carl's with the Knicks.
What about you?
I like the Thunder pick.
She's on MVP watch.
He's got third or fourth best odds, I think.
Yeah, I think Shay's, I think Shay is a definite MVP candidate, which, again, think about
the Kentucky dudes over the year while they were at Kentucky.
If I told you Shay Alexander would win the MVP, that's a good.
one of the craziest ones, but go ahead.
I want to say Celtics.
That's exactly what you just said.
I think those are the favorites.
You can say it.
Celtics and who?
Thunder.
So you want to do that?
So you're going to do the same thing I am.
So Celtics Thunder and you're taking Celtics.
Sixers, wolves.
Sixers wolves.
I like the wolves, though.
I'm excited.
I love Anthony.
Yeah.
I mean, I'm going to miss Carl been there.
Carl debuts tonight for the Knicks.
That's the other game.
We got a little Kentucky double header.
Yeah, it's going to be fun watching Rob.
Like, I'm excited because Rob's going to be playing in big games.
Rob's going to play.
Rob could be in the NBA finals in his first year.
I mean, like, you just don't see that a lot.
Rob's going to be in a big sleigh.
Reeves made the team.
Yes.
Reeves made the team, and we'll see if he gets to play when their season starts tomorrow.
Now, Julius Randall, does he start for the wolves now?
He'll start.
He'll start.
That's right.
Tonight you get Randall.
You can see Randall, get see Dillingham, and then Carl Towns in his new team with the Knicks.
So good night for former Kentucky guys.
Reed, by the way, supposed to likely be the six-man for Houston starting the season.
Did you see him getting yelled at by Adams, the big dude, for stealing his rebounds?
Oh, really?
Reed goes up and gets a rebound, offensive rebound, hustling, and Stephen Adams yells at him for stealing his rebounds.
Calls him a name.
It's like a series.
He's actually mad at him.
But that just shows you how hard reads.
Is Stephen Adams on that team?
Yeah.
shows you how hard Reed's working.
Are you taking rebounds from the center?
All right.
Who's up next?
Jordan.
Jordan.
Go ahead, Jordan.
Good to talk to you all.
You know, I grew up, I'm 26, so the first real season I watched start to finish
in football growing up were the Joker era and the beginning of the Stoops era.
And so I was introduced to suffering in Kentucky football.
And so even, like, I remember jumping up and down when Austin McGuinness beat Mississippi State
and that felt like we climbed a mountain.
So I don't forget where we came from, and I love stoops.
I'd hate to see these two crotches I grew up with,
and on poor notes with Kentucky between Cal and Stoops for their long ten years,
but at the same time, I'd hate to see us even more so go on a downslide
right when we really could take that opportunity to be good.
If Indiana can do it, we can do it.
No, listen, this is the time.
This is what worries me about us taking a slide now.
I said it the other day.
This is the time to make a move.
College football is more open today than it has been maybe ever.
I really mean, all you got to do is look at the top 20.
I mean, you got, you got Indiana, you got Missouri, you got Army and Navy.
You know, you've got Maryland just beat USC in a game.
You know, we saw Vandy is beaten Alabama.
I mean, there's just so much opportunity out there that this is not the time to, like, drop the bag.
Do you think, do you think a part of me still believes in Stoop's his ability to turn around,
mostly because he always gets the result you don't think he's going to get.
I kind of want him, I'd love for him to go and beat Tennessee.
If you beat Tennessee, and even if you go six and six or seven and five, a seven-and-five season,
beating Tennessee.
No, listen, there's a way for them to turn this around.
I appreciate the call.
You beat Auburn, say you were to upset Tennessee, beat Murray, beat Louisville,
you're 7 and 5.
I mean, I think everything's fine.
You know, you lose all those games and only beat Murray and you're 4 and 8, and it's not fine.
I mean, there's a way, Ryan, to still have a positive thing.
And that's not crazy to say, I know as bad as we all feel after what just happened
and they've added down in Florida.
That's not crazy to think you could still be bow eligible.
Now you're going to have to beat Louisville at the end of the season.
And if you want to 7 to 5, you're going to have to beat either Tennessee or Texas.
It's just tough because, like, think about how exciting it would be
to be going into this stretch in the middle of it.
Because so many teams in the SEC, I mean, the SEC, you talk about a convoluted tiebreaker.
Get ready for what it may be to get in the championship.
I mean, there's going to be.
they're like seven or eight teams with one loss or less.
Like it's going to be wild down the stretch.
And somebody, I feel like a coach just recently said no one's even talking about Texas A&M
and one lost teams.
That might be better than any of them, which I don't know that I agree with.
And has no conference loss.
That's what I'm saying.
Just the fact they're in the mix, too, with all these big names we think of usually.
I've enjoyed this season outside of Kentucky.
I like the 12 team playoff.
I like that we have Vandy Army and Navy in the top 25.
I don't like that Vandy beat us.
But I kind of like having something different than just.
copy paste seasons we had for several years. The 12-team playoff, anybody that was against it,
you just need to acknowledge you were wrong. It's made college football so much better.
Tennessee, Alabama, those teams still cared. Georgia, Texas, they still cared. But now all of these
teams, their seasons are still, they still matter. You know what I mean? And that, that was not how
it was. If you didn't have the playoff, there'd only be a handful of teams who seasons matter.
You know, Alabama probably would not make the playoff, the old playoff.
But people will be, they want Alabama in it.
So now they expand to 12, they're going to have a good chance to get back in it.
I mean, with this playoff, Navy plays Notre Dame this weekend, and it matters.
It matters.
It matters for both of them.
Like, both of them have a game.
I mean, if Navy wins, they're in, like, they got a shot to go to the playoff.
If Notre Dame wins, they're probably going to be in the playoff, right?
Yeah, I mean, a lot of people thought this would hurt the regular season.
I think it just added so much more and made so many more games meaningful.
And when we get to that playoff, I can't wait.
I saw a projection today that has our BYU Mormons at Ohio State.
I can't wait to see those home atmospheres, these random teams going in and upsetting these traditional powerhouses.
That first week of home games.
So like the home games in the playoff are going to be, I think they're like the December.
It's when we are in New York.
So it's that weekend we're in New York and play Ohio State.
It's the 21st.
The 21st.
That's the first weekend of the playoffs.
You're going to have Kentucky and Ohio State and football,
one game Friday night, three games Saturday.
That's going to be such an awesome day of sports.
And we'll all pay attention to it.
If it was a meaningless bowl game, I don't care of BYU playing Ohio State.
But if it's the playoffs, I'm watching it.
It's going to be awesome.
Who's next?
Randolph.
Randolph.
Go ahead, Randolph.
Hey, how you guys doing?
Hope you all having a good day today.
So you sparked my interest a little bit on this idea of, like, you know, bad fans and all this kind of stuff.
So I had to call in immediately when you started going down that road.
I mean, nothing is ever going to match the Tennessee game against Ole Miss a couple years ago.
But I got thrown off a chain game in a football game where my son was playing.
That's kind of a lot of thing.
I like this.
So you were one of the people holding the chains and you did something.
So bad they threw you out of the stadium?
They threw me off the chain game.
So I was, my son's playing, it's Pee-Wee football.
It's actually, well, it's middle school football.
And I'm on the chain gang because they used to ask to run the chains, right?
So I yelled at the rest so much during the game.
And one particular call where there was a pass interference.
And I had the largest, I had the last lead on the 10-yard marker.
And the play happened right in front of me.
and the ref didn't throw the flag.
And I ripped his butt left and right, and he threw me out of the game.
So, like, in hindsight, you seem like Randolph, like a grown man who's very smart and well-adjusted.
Do you look back and say it was embarrassing that I was thrown off a middle school football game field,
or do you consider it, like, do you have pride in it?
No, it was embarrassing because I embarrassed my son, I think.
And that's, as a dad, you're like, you don't ever want to get to that level.
But, you know, after I got home and we had, yeah, when we got home and had Pete's to that night, he agreed with me.
So I was right.
Well, I appreciate the call.
That's quite a story.
That's going to be my whiskey thief story of the day.
My friend texted me during one of the breaks.
Yeah, I remember one time your dad came to watch you and your son, you coach your son, and you got kicked out of that game while your dad was there.
Oh, yeah, I forgot about that.
Yeah, but you were the kid.
that respect. No, I was the coach. I was coaching my kid and my dad came to watch his grandpa.
Oh, so you were coaching your kid. Yeah. You got kicked out with your dad there to watch.
That's tough. Yeah. Three generations there. Yeah, that's three. That's right. Three generations of
embarrassment. Did you do it as like a motivator? Like Cal has one a year and it was one of those things?
I'll go with that. Yeah. That's what it was.

I call on my Gen X squads from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate Midlife's most fantastic BS.
All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own.
I was like, what the hell is that?
I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that nest was going to be.
Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive.
Wait, what sex?
Dating at 45.
How can it be getting naked at 50 with the new guy?
That one's kind of hard.
Well, that's lighting.
They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try.
So let's get blunt with laughs, tears or tears of laughter,

One person writes on the text machine, Matt,
my husband got the entire team kicked out of his church league.
I don't say what the story is, but whatever that is had to be quite a thing.
I wanted to know the story now.
How do you get a whole team kicked out of a church league?
I've told this story on here before,
but I kicked Tony Realli out of a game for acting, for being too rude,
the former, the guys around the Horn host.
What game was it?
DC City League.
And your referee is?
I think I've told you this before.
I moved to D.C.
And I didn't know anybody.
And so I was like trying to figure out,
and I worked with only two guys,
and they were nice, but we didn't have a lot in common.
So I was like trying to figure out,
how do you make friends?
So I was like, I'll join a basketball league.
But I was by myself.
so I didn't have a team
so they assigned me to a team
and they assigned me to a team
of like dudes from Anacostia
like all black dudes in D.C.
That were all buddies.
And they just decided like
they acted like I was their mascot.
Like I was the funniest thing in the world
that it couldn't have been nicer to me
but I was like the funniest thing in the world.
So I mean, we won the league
and it was not close and it was not because of me.
But I
So anything I did
Like anything they did
They'd invite me along
So I
Had to ref some games
Because I just
I don't know
I guess I just wanted to have something to do
And I read a lot
And I riffed the game
And Tony Realli
Who at the time was probably 21 years old
He was stat boy on ESPN
On pardon the interruption
He was playing
He started mouting at me
I said if you do that again
I'm kicking you out
He did it again
and I sent him out.
Raleigh gets in my face, and my teammates were there, and they were like, you want some?
And I was like, yeah, tell them about it.
Boys had your back.
They had my back.
Yeah.
And we won the league.
I still have the trophy.
Now you're ESPN colleagues.
That's right.
It was fun.
I've never heard that story.
Really?
No.
Yeah, those dudes, they were good.
I think I told you one week I was MVP because I hit like seven threes.
Well, we got to have video proof of this.
Well, it was just because they would, like, no one guarded me on that team.
Like, I was the dude doing I was out there.
And so they just set me up.
And it was like that day Preston LeMaster hit all those threes against Ole Miss,
where it was like, what is happening?
It was your Preston LeMaster moment.
That was my Preston LeMaster day.
Who's next?
Kyle.
Kyle, what's up, Kyle?
Hey, Matt, so contracts.
If you have success, you deserve a rarest extension,
and you do have the leverage with the university.
Soup's definitely earned that in 2022.
I won't argue that.
I won't argue that.
I won't argue that.
The root cause for this issue for Barnhart and why the university is stuck is he's guaranteeing new coaching hires,
75% minimum of their remaining contract value with the buyout clauses.
Stoops, when he was hired, it was 80%.
Cal Pope and Kenney Brooks.
Pope and Brooks haven't even started here.
He's guaranteeing them 75%.
I look this up, and college coaches today are getting between 50 to 75% of contract values guaranteed through their buyouts.
There's no reason the UK should be offering new high-out.
hire coaches, the top range of that.
But again, you're saying, you're taking people, you're taking examples in the general,
but you're not thinking about the specifics.
All right.
Cala Perry, when he was hired, was maybe the best hire in college basketball.
He demanded that.
Mitch doesn't have a choice in that moment.
Mark Stoops, by the time he resigns, you can't lose him at that point.
Who's Kentucky going to get at that moment?
that was better.
Kenny Brooks is probably the best women's coach that Kentucky could have gotten that's not
already aligned with another school.
Now, the Pope's situation is a little different.
Maybe you have a, but we're paying him like half what we paid Cal.
But the reason Mitch had to do that is because these dudes were really wanted.
It wasn't like we were hiring somebody who had never done anything before.
In all of those scenarios, you're hiring people.
that had other options.
Okay.
Yeah, I guess I understand that point.
I just think that we're starting these coaches when they're coming here way too high.
But we didn't do that.
We didn't do that for Cal and Kenny Brooks.
We're hiring people that probably could have gone to 10 different schools.
So that's why we did it.
For Mark Pope and Mark Stoops, when we first hired them, we weren't even paying them that much money.
So guaranteeing it is not that big a deal.
I mean, what's Mark Pope making?
Five million?
I believe.
Yeah, that's half of what we paid, Cal.
Yeah.
So even if you guarantee 75% of it, that's still less money than you were guaranteeing
Cal by a significant amount.
Right.
I'm just saying that I'll hang up and listen, but I was just saying that the 75% really just

Yeah, well, I appreciate the call.
Maybe.
