This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out.
Starting point is 00:01:25 Quarterback on office blue 42. A rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Cliverts show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. The story I've told myself can then shape my behavior,

Starting point is 00:03:24 I am here in studio in Lexington. If those of you that were going to come see us today at the bar, you should still go to the bar because it's Wingsday. dollar wings, but our equipment messed up this morning. So we got here into the studio so that we could actually be on the air. I apologize to anyone who maybe came to watch. I'm sorry, it's just the way the technology here works. Clark's puppet shop phone line is 859-280-2287. A-Vision Autoglass Text Machine is 772-745-254 in this edition sponsored by the T.J.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Smith Law of us. If you call T.J., he'll make them pay. So we got Ryan and we got Drew. And so here's the thing, Ryan. I have two tickets on the eighth row for the UK. UK basketball starts tonight. Are you excited? I got my purple on.
Starting point is 00:04:12 I'm very excited. Are you excited? I'm very excited. I could not be more excited. By the way, that was not the reaction. You've got your purple on. Kentucky is playing.
Starting point is 00:04:22 I'm glad that you can, but you act like that's what the people here are excited about. We're excited about Kentucky. So today, part of what I want to do is here, those of you who call 859-2-80-22-87, What are you, are you excited about the season? How do you expect it to go, et cetera? But I have these two tickets that are on the eighth row behind the bit.
Starting point is 00:04:43 That's nice. From T.J. Smith. What a great way to start the season. So I created, Drew, my game for how to do it. I like your games. We've done these before. We've done these before. It's been a while.
Starting point is 00:04:57 Usually, Ryan, was the person I may do this. Okay. Not today. Today we have a newer person. Oh, no. we have Mario looking good in this sweater by the way Mario you're way too fashionable to be on this show
Starting point is 00:05:10 that is a UK sweater that's a nice sweater let me take a picture the back of it has the big wildcat on it the back's even better for a second stand up for a second I'm going to do what you would do and do the fashion thing now you got to look at the camera
Starting point is 00:05:22 turn around look at the camera there you go bam now take the other side there you go there you go okay so that's a nice jacket did you get that made no I didn't
Starting point is 00:05:32 no I got it from Vintage therapy. Vintage therapy. All right. But so here's what we're going to do today. You are going to go pull the microphone up to your mouth. There you go. There you go.
Starting point is 00:05:44 You're going to go around town somewhere. Okay. And you're going to stand and wait for someone to come get the tickets from you. Okay. All right. You can pick anywhere in town. All right. And you're going to drive around for the first hour, see what feels right.
Starting point is 00:06:02 stop, then call into the show and say where you are. Whoever's the first person to come there, you film them and give them the tickets. That works. Does that sound exciting? Very exciting. Now, you need to think for a second about where you may go. Now, Billy, I wanted to put him on the microphone, Drew, to talk about it.
Starting point is 00:06:22 Billy said to me, he has to sit on this microphone over here, and not this one. And I said, why? and he goes, this is a female-only microphone. That was for the ladies. It's got pink tape around it. It has pink tape around it. Now, I did not know that microphones had gender. I didn't either.
Starting point is 00:06:42 I did not know that microphones were gender-specific. Did you know that? Only because one time I got yelled at for sitting there. But before that, no, this is brand new. I've been in radio now 15 years. Didn't know. Did you know? Never heard this before.
Starting point is 00:06:58 You've done radio longer than me. Yep. Never heard. Never heard it. Now, Billy, as your boss, I would like for you to get on to the female microphone and talk so we can see what a female microphone is like. Well, this is my normal voice. And if it is working correctly, it's not picking up my voice very well, if at all. It's not picking up your voice very well at all.
Starting point is 00:07:24 What does that mean? Get up there next to it. Check one, two. here I am talking to it. And normally, if we have a male sit at this microphone, it's much, much harder to hear them than a female. How does it know? I'm not the engineer, but they tell me that I guess maybe because of the higher frequency
Starting point is 00:07:41 of a female's voice, it's easier to pick up. So wait a minute, you're saying that, so I don't know. Only the people at home can hear this. People at home, when Billy talks right here, go ahead. Can you hear him? Hello, Ronnie James is a fraud. Send him to the G League. Okay, you are in a mood today.
Starting point is 00:07:57 I'm going to need you to bring it down a notch. So, Ryan, is he suggesting people at home? It's like a dog whistle. He's not able to hear it. Because to us, he sounds exactly the same. You and our headsets, I think he sounds the same. He does sound the same. Yes.
Starting point is 00:08:12 If I talked like this. Okay, don't do that. I'm going to get you off the microphone. So, so you know, Billy came in here angry. He was on fire. He's just lashing out at people this morning. I need you to just calm down. He might need a wellness walk around downtown.
Starting point is 00:08:25 I think, I'll tell you what. Just a lap. Just maybe just take a walk, Billy. Take a deep breath and come back. So this microphone is the female microphone. Yes. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:08:37 Get out of here. He's had a rough day at the equipment. Yeah. Fresh air for Bill in this morning. Let's go. Okay. So, all right. Do you know where you're going to go?
Starting point is 00:08:44 Yes. I have a few ideas. All right. So you go around. You figure it out. The goal is to get a place maybe with some people around it or to just go somewhere. But don't just go like, don't be like Ryan. Ryan would just go to like,
Starting point is 00:08:57 like Rupp Arena. I want you to go somewhere unique and somewhere different, okay? Absolutely. All right. You text me when you get where you want to be. Probably maybe the beginning of the second hour. Okay. And then we'll get the time. All right, let's do it. All right, go.
Starting point is 00:09:13 Good luck. Where your seatbelt? I remember the first time you sent me? Do you remember I went the very first time? I think you went somewhere like Rupp Arena. I went to Victoria Secrets. At the mall. I don't remember that. I don't remember that at all. I would have bet anything Georgetown. You went to Victoria's at the mall. Yeah, I stood outside Victoria Secrets at the mall. I was the first time we did
Starting point is 00:09:31 something like this. I might regret asking this, but what was, what went through the noggin to pick that place? We were at the studio, there on Nicholasville Road pretty close to the mall. A little nearby, I understand. So I was trying to take somewhere where there be people walking around and, you know, Victoria Secrets seems to be an attractive place for me to go. No, it doesn't. Don't do that. No person wants a guy just looking outside of Victoria Secret looking in. Don't do that. I've seen guys at the mall doing that before. Don't do that. It's just a piece of advice. You're getting the age that don't do that. I think that wouldn't be good.
Starting point is 00:10:00 What was wrong with Billy? I don't know. He had a rough morning. I mean, I understand there were technical difficulties during the pre-show. But he was in here just ranting about people, like, just, he was just going off about various human beings. What was that? What was up there?
Starting point is 00:10:17 Yeah, you mentioned the topic, and he just kind of snapped a little bit, gave his thoughts about it, very unexpected, especially this early in the morning. You know, we're just greeting each other. Our salutations. You see Billy to do that. day. Just tell him, send him a tweet. He's got a long day today, too. We got a long day. We got pregame show.
Starting point is 00:10:33 We got the game. We got the postgame show. Can you imagine how grumpy he's going to be tonight at when we talk about the Wesleyan game? I mean, he's got to deal with Tom Leach a little bit. Oh, Tom, Diva, Tom. Tom's first game of the Mark Pope era and he's going to have Billy in the air. Jack Givens out there doing Jack Givens things. Imagine if he had to do a cow. That would be different.
Starting point is 00:10:55 859-9-2-80-22. So I want you to call in and let me know what you think about the basketball team this year. Specifically, are you excited? I get the feeling tonight. It's going to be a fun night, Ryan, at Rupp Arena. I think there's going to be kind of a celebration that comes out much more excitement than you would normally have in an exhibition. 100%. People are just excited.
Starting point is 00:11:17 They want to be there for Mark Pope's first game. I mean, you know, I was trying to get tickets for the game tonight. It was kind of hard because people don't want to give them up. They want to be there and see the debut of Mark Pope and what he's going to bring to the table. This is the hardest preseason ticket I've seen in a long time. I mean, TJ's not feeling well, and I hope he feels better. That's why he's giving these away. But I had a couple friends sort of do the, you know, hey, Matt.
Starting point is 00:11:40 How you been? I know we haven't talked since 2022. Got a ticket? First of all, I love those texts. All right. So somebody will go, hey, Matt. And it's like a number that I forgot I knew. You're like, how you been?
Starting point is 00:11:55 you know it's 8.15 in the morning. Now, you know, I'll be good. Hey, you bit. Oh, I'm good. By the way, would you happen to have, like, tickets for the game tonight? And I just want to go,
Starting point is 00:12:12 I look, and like the last time I talked to you, you asked me for tickets then too. Do you get that? Oh, yeah. Hey, Hey, Drew, COVID was rough.
Starting point is 00:12:21 I haven't talked to you in a while. But we play football. tomorrow and, you know, families in and just thought I'd catch up with you, even though you're doing a pregame show. If you have tickets? Yeah. Just out of curious, lead to the UK Arkansas game February 1st? Would you know a guy?
Starting point is 00:12:38 Also, I love, you know, we get to do cool things, but like we don't get tickets, I don't get tickets for me. You all don't get tickets for you. Occasionally a listener sends them, but UK doesn't just come up to us and say, hey, KSR, would you all like plenty of seats? Yeah, I have zero seats. Last year I got given a lot of seats, but that was more of a testament to the where the program was than anything else. But for this one, you know, I thought about going myself. I was like,
Starting point is 00:13:01 you know what? I may, because, you know, I don't go to a lot of home games anymore. They've made it to where for the media, it's not as easy to, like, it's just not as fun as it used to be to quick or right, Frank. So now I really only want to go if I sit in the crowd. And I thought to myself, maybe I'll go. I'd like to be in the atmosphere. And besides T.J.'s tickets, which I'm given away, I haven't seen any. It is, I think it's going to be cool tonight. Because I think that we've talked about so much, we feel like we've got to be. our program back and we want to be, we're a part of it again. We want to be there to witness Are you going? Oh yeah. So you are going. Yeah. Well, how did you get ticket? Worldwide Todd Harris.
Starting point is 00:13:36 Remember if we learned yesterday, Wesleyan wouldn't help him. Yeah. Oh, that's right. That's right. So you're going in the Wesleyan's, that's right. Wesleyan fans, I mean, KSR fans have sent me some tickets. I got enough for Josiah and his girlfriend. I got enough for Yogi girl. So I'm good. What about me? I got two extra if you want to go. Seriously. Decent seats? I think so. All right. If they're Todd's, I know there. Lower and zone. I might go. I'm going to sit in Todd.
Starting point is 00:13:58 You can sit. I'm sorry. I don't want to take yours. I wouldn't want to get in the way of your seats. I think I've got two more. All right. Well, let me know. They move the media seating into the crowd if you want to sit with us.
Starting point is 00:14:08 We're like up top corner now. Oh, that's awful. 859-280-2287. What do you expect to see tonight? I mean, they didn't look great during the blue white. They played exciting. Didn't make a lot of shots you think they play well this evening. I do.
Starting point is 00:14:22 I'm mostly just ready to answer a lot of questions. we've been speculating about just being a whole new everything. I mean, we don't even know the starting five. We have a pretty good idea. Do we think it's, uh, if you, you got to make a guess. Lamont Butler, Andrew Carr, Jackson Robinson, and Amari Williams in my brain are locked in. Four locks. You can maybe be surprised by that.
Starting point is 00:14:42 You know, you hear a lot of good things about Brandon Garrison. I don't know how they're going to split time, but I think Amari Williams is going to play a lot in that spot. It's the two that I don't know. O-A. Is it, I mean, that's got to be. It's got to be O-A or Bray. Right.
Starting point is 00:14:56 I don't think Chandler's going to start it, too. I also wonder if Kerr Kreezer will play tonight. He missed the blue-white last Friday with it, Tweeted Hamstream. Yeah, he might not play. I see him more as backing up Butler. So I have four and then that shooting guard spot, I'll guess go we bring up? I really, that could be anything. But it could be either one of them.
Starting point is 00:15:13 I think that's one of those situations where either guy wouldn't be a shock if he ends up being the one that starts. I think it's going to be interesting for a lot of our fans. This first time you've, I mean, this first time you've ever seen you. Yeah. I mean, most of you have never seen these guys play outside the three-point contest or something like that, ever. Because you didn't get to see the blue-white game, right? Probably didn't watch them in college. So this is going to be tonight, Ryan, a hello, here's who these people are.
Starting point is 00:15:41 That's why we didn't get in the weeds too much after the blue-white game. But I was impressed. I didn't think we were going to have much of an inside game at all. Amari Williams is a big dude, and he can bully people around in there. And Anzley Alvador is a better player than I thought. I mean, he missed a lot of shots, but he's pretty active. I want to watch people see Amari Williams shoot a jump shot. You're going to think he's purposely shooting with the wrong hand.
Starting point is 00:16:02 You are. Like, it's the ugliest jump shot in UK history. Let's, who has that record? The early Jamal Martinez jumpers. The Chuck Hayes free throw. Chuck Hayes free throws were, but that happened more in the NBA. Wayne Turner had a bad shot. Wayne Turner had an ugly shot.
Starting point is 00:16:21 Amari's free throws. I think he only took. or three in that blue white, but they barely get over the rim. I mean, there's just no loft on his wrist. I'm just going to warn here, everybody. Amari Williams' jump shot is an adventure. It is like the old choose-your-own adventures when you're a kid. You don't know what's going to happen.
Starting point is 00:16:37 Mike, go right in. But he is an incredible passer for his size. He made two no-look passes to cutting players and just that brief scrimmage we saw. I think there's a chance. He could be like second or third and assist as a big man, also having the defensive presence in the SEC. see, he can just really share the ball. 859-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:16:55 One person said, Matt, Billy sounded weird as ever. There was no difference. We will take your calls. Get ready. At some point, Mario's going to be somewhere in town. Hopefully, Billy calms down and stops trying to stab people. And we will preview the game and more. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:17:14 Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending. Opinions are flying. and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise.
Starting point is 00:17:28 Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves. Their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games,
Starting point is 00:17:45 from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants. answer. Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to SportsSlice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slic Life 12 and the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kier Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own
Starting point is 00:18:15 experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking. Trip Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses.
Starting point is 00:18:39 Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way. Open your free iHeartRadio app.
Starting point is 00:19:04 Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
Starting point is 00:19:23 And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
Starting point is 00:19:45 And when IT's friends stop by like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash will get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.
Starting point is 00:20:02 Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the Fourth. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff.
Starting point is 00:20:17 Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her. What?
Starting point is 00:20:37 Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Cliverts show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, I'm Jared Adano. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet. Help!
Starting point is 00:20:55 Somebody! Please! But there's so much more to me than that. I'm an actor. I'm a comedian. And recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite,
Starting point is 00:21:07 I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike! I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff, rant, recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man.
Starting point is 00:21:24 If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary. Cream a chicken suit. Hey, cream. Cream a chicken suit. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hypocrite as part of the MyCultura podcast network available on the I-HartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back.
Starting point is 00:21:51 It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-280-2287. Matt Jones, Ryan Lemon, and Drew Franklin, dealing with a technical issue Wednesday. A lot of things going on. So the game tonight is on the computer. It is on SEC and ESPN Plus. Now, Drew, you're the expert on this,
Starting point is 00:22:12 because there's going to be a lot of people who don't know this. We haven't had our football game yet that was on SEC. plus. So tell people how do you watch it? Well, on the computer is one option. You have to have a SEC network on your TV, but the game won't be on the TV. But as long as you have subscription to SEC network and you normally watch it, then you can find the game on a streaming app or on your computer. If you're, if you are someone who wherever, however you watch TV, you have the SEC network, then you have access to this. game. You just have to get on the computer to watch it. They're just not sending it to your
Starting point is 00:22:54 television. Yeah, they're not going to like call you up and say it's on Channel 5. You have to find your way to a computer to make it happen. Now that you got to have a login and you have to know Tom Hart's middle name and there's like all these other things you have to do. But you do in theory have access if you have the SEC network. So if you go to, I think it's watch ESPN.com. it'll ask you like are you spectrum are you YouTube TV are you whatever and whatever you would log in to pay your bill put that in you'll find the game and if you're like me and you never remember what your password is that's where you encounter a problem we will also have the game at the bar tonight yes and it'll be easy because you don't have to log in you can just come in and we will be serving dollar wings and you can watch the watch the game how good is Kentucky Wesleyan they've got some new a lot of new players, a lot of transfers, I think, so I'm not really for sure. So you have no idea? No idea.
Starting point is 00:23:49 So you did? They got one guy, I think that's really, really good. What does that mean? Like, how good? Like, I think he's like a Division I transfer guy that's pretty good. Okay. So one guy that's good. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:59 So you're saying we should win. Should win, yes. By an easy amount. Should win. But, you know, like I pointed out, they beat Louisville last year at this time. So there's not just, you know, Louisville won six games last year. We should win more than six. I think if they beat us, that's going to be a worse situation.
Starting point is 00:24:15 I don't want to contradict a scouting report, but most of their team is back. Six of the top eight scorers are back. So, wait a minute. How did you come up with? They had a lot of transfers. I talked to my Wesleyan guy yesterday. They said, man, they got a lot of new guys. They got one guy that's really, really good at the Division I guy.
Starting point is 00:24:33 And you're saying they have six of their top eight are back. They did lose their leading score. Okay. Passed him. I think the next five leading scores, leading rebounder. Most of the starters that beat Louisville, they're all back. There we go. I didn't report.
Starting point is 00:24:47 As opposed to my friend, obviously, nobody he was talking about. This morning, I asked him for any Wesleyan fun facts, and they beat Louisville last year. Yeah. All right. So Ryan is on the phone here, a different Ryan,
Starting point is 00:24:59 hopefully one that knows more about the team than you, who is from Kentucky Wesleyan. Ryan, how are you? I'm doing well, Matt. How are you? Ryan, what, when it says you're from Kentucky Wesleyan, and what does that mean?
Starting point is 00:25:14 Well, I'm a K-Double, I'm 34 years old now. Okay, so you don't really know the team either. No, frankly, my scouting report was going to be more like Ryan, so that's pretty much I know. Okay, so the key is don't ask people who went to Kentucky Wesley. What do you got? So I have a game etiquette question for both you and Ryan. So my wife and I are both alums from K-dub and we're taking my son with us tonight and going to watch the game.
Starting point is 00:25:41 But I'm a UK fan. My son's a big UK fan as well. so we're also sitting in the Ked Up section. How do we go about cheering for Wesleyan and the Wildcaps? I think if you're in the Kentucky Wesleyan section, I appreciate the call it. You're expected to cheer for Kentucky Wesleyan. And I think also, I don't think the people in the Wesleyan section feel like that Wesleyan's going to win.
Starting point is 00:26:03 So I feel like you can cheer for Kentucky as well. Now, if the game is close at the end and you're pulling for Kentucky, I think that Drew would make them mad. Yeah, we've had this a lot because, you know, we've played a lot of the smaller Kentucky schools lately. You wore the transit gear. It's a friendly, you know, people allow you to cheer for your team. We're expecting it to be a pretty big blowout. We like having our neighbors from around the Commonwealth come in wearing their other colors.
Starting point is 00:26:27 Yes, but I think if you're in the Wesleyan section, Ryan, it's perfectly reasonable that you would cheer for Wesley. I will cheer for both teams tonight. But yeah, if it gets tight, you got to be careful what you're doing. you know, if Wesleyan as a lead late in the game, I can't be up, standing up, going crazy that they're ahead of Kentucky. Now, what you can't do, I can tell you, is you better not if Wesleyan, like, is winning and could win, like, be celebrated. Yeah, that's where you've got to be careful right there.
Starting point is 00:26:54 I don't think fans would do that. Now, I also think we have bigger problems than Ryan if that happens. But I don't expect that to happen. I mean, I expect to see today a fun team that wins by 20, to 30. What do you think? Yeah, the last time we, two times we played Wesleyan, one was with Tubby, but one was just a couple years ago with Cal. Both games, I think, were 24-point deficits. I know these are different teams. That just kind of shows how it's been traditionally. I think I said yesterday, 32 was my
Starting point is 00:27:22 spread. I'll leave it to that. I mean, we're guessing here. As long as Kentucky shoots the ball well, I don't think this is going to be very close. I think what's interesting about the way this team is going to play is that they could shoot themselves in and out of games, meaning like, if they're not shooting well, this could be close for a while. There's not give the ball to Anthony Davis and you're guaranteed to get points mode that this team, I think, can go in. Yeah, I mean, if they really try to shoot 35-3s a game, there's going to be a game where they hit maybe 20 out of 35. But there may also be a game that they hit 5 out of 35, you know, you just want to have one of those nights. Now, Billy mentioned LeBron and Brody.
Starting point is 00:27:56 So they played. They did play. They checked in together. Yes. And Brani played a minute. He didn't play long. They got the photo op, though. They got the photo op.
Starting point is 00:28:06 The Griffies were there. That was kind of nice. They are now the only two players to play on the same team, the Griffies and Father's Son and the Jameses. What did you think about him playing one minute? I was watching live. They won the game. So whatever since it was like a gimmick didn't really end up mattering
Starting point is 00:28:30 because they won the game. I never was really passionate in my opinion either way. Whatever. It doesn't matter. But then when he checked it, then I immediately turned into a hater and I did not expect it. I yelled miss it when LeBron took that first shot. He did.
Starting point is 00:28:44 He yelled miss it. And Julius Randall gets the ball and I said, go at him, yelling at my TV. Abby's looking at me like, where did this come from? In like an instant, I became a hater and was so thrilled to see them like kind of welcome to the league a little bit. That's what he needed. LeBron Bray. LeBron Brick two shots.
Starting point is 00:29:02 And then LeBronny gave up the first bucket to the wolves and I loved every second of it because we all know what this is. and I liked him kind of getting his welcome to the league. So you didn't think it was sweet at all? No. But I didn't expect to feel that feeling. But the moment he checked in, I just started yelling for the wolves. Did you think it was sweet?
Starting point is 00:29:16 I did. Just to have that moment. It wasn't long, just a couple minutes. I went to see Josiah last night. The first thing he told me, he goes, hey, Bronny and LeBron play together. That's what he was excited about. That's interesting.
Starting point is 00:29:26 Like, I mean, he's gone now. But Mario and I fought for a year about Brody. He's convinced he's going to be good. I think I think dudes young guys they want Brony to succeed. They want him to succeed. And older guys like old man Franklin here don't want him to succeed. No, I'm never. No, you just said you were a hater.
Starting point is 00:29:48 You know, I actually like Brian. I'm saying I was surprised. I wanted just that you wanted to be a hater. I wanted everyone to turn up their intensity and say, all right, you want to be in the league, come get some of this. And that's kind of what they did to him. Well, I bet he's gone to the G League. Maybe today.
Starting point is 00:30:00 Maybe this afternoon. Maybe. Yeah. We'll take a break. Be right back. KS. So Mario is driving around Lexington trying to figure out where he's going to stop. I told him he can't go to like one of his buddy's house.
Starting point is 00:30:15 I know how his mind works now. He was like going to go to his buddy's house or like a friend of his that owns a t-shirt shop. I was like, you can't do that. You got to go somewhere random. I think one other time I went to Chuckie Cheese. I stood outside of Chuck E cheese. Also weird. Like you found a way to go.
Starting point is 00:30:30 You found a way. Both of those I'd call the cops. Why is your brain register that the two places to go are Victoria's Secret and Chuckie cheese. I mean, I honestly can't think of two weirder places for you to go unless you went to like a daycare center. Like, why would you go those places? It may have been, you know, the weird coffee I had that morning. No, it's just your brain. You literally think, you know, it'd be funny if I stand out here and gawk at a Victoria Secret. Those are two places where if a middle age man is just loitering, they need to call someone. Don't water. You should never,
Starting point is 00:31:03 I would argue one of those places you shouldn't be in unless you're with your kids and then Chucky cheese no I'm just kidding that was that was good
Starting point is 00:31:16 859-28027 one person writes Drew turned into a boomer the moment Bronte checked in I guess so a little bit how about Dillingham didn't play D&P
Starting point is 00:31:30 I thought Dillingham was going to get significant minutes did not play. He's in such a weird spot because the eighth pick, you're usually going to a team that's not that good and they need you and there's an expectation, but he went straight to a title contender and as we saw last night, I don't think this will continue, but they don't really go straight to, don't really need them right away. Obviously with a good roster. I mean, there'll probably be injuries and stuff as it goes that will make him do it. But it is really, really strange, you know, that that happened. One person writes, Matt, I want to see us blow this team out tonight
Starting point is 00:32:02 towards the end of the Calera, some of these exhibition games would stay close for a while. We need to beat them by 40. We all want that, but they came out of the gate, the blue white game, didn't shoot the ball that well.
Starting point is 00:32:14 I think they'll sit well today. I just kind of feel that they'll, I think the shooting will be good this evening. And really the blue white shooting was only two people. Brian Almanor went like two, six or seven from three. Carr and Chandler and a couple of others shot it pretty well.
Starting point is 00:32:30 I had somebody tell me, around the team. Matt Carr will be our leading score. You all keep saying Jackson, but he was like, Jackson's a better player, but Carr will score more because he'll play more minutes and he gets to the free throw line, etc. Well, in May, on this show several times, I started calling him SEC tournament MVP, Andrew Carr, and that remains. I expect him to be the best player on this team,
Starting point is 00:32:50 at least with Perdot. I think Lamont Butler with his defense, but as far as getting some accolades and scoring a lot of points, I think it's going to be Andrew Carr. One person writes, my wife, Matt, wanted me to ask you what you think of Brianna chicken fry. What is this? Brianna chicken fry? The number one thing is I'm sad that I know what that is.
Starting point is 00:33:11 Like those were words if you had told me six months ago, I would have had, like, what was your reaction to those words? I first of what you said Brianna thought it was a name, but her last name can't be chicken fry. It is chicken fry. That's her last name? Well, I mean, I don't know if it's a real last name, but it's like, I'm sure I'm going to get this wrong.
Starting point is 00:33:31 But it's like someone that's on TikTok. They're like TikTok famous. Okay. They dated the singer Zach Brunt. Okay. You know who that is? Yes. I guess, Drew, you clear this up for me if it's true.
Starting point is 00:33:43 I guess he cheated on her by having a Raya profile while they were dating, which seems like a bad decision on his part. Yeah, there's been some cheating Reddit threads. Seems that he might have stepped out. a couple times. But then she yesterday put out a video, I guess he announced the breakup without telling her. And she found out by logging on and seeing it on his Instagram. That's not cool. Now, normally that would make you sad.
Starting point is 00:34:14 But these people that live TikTok lives, they just live their sadness in front of everybody. So she turns on a video of her crying talking about. And I have no opinion about the two of them dating. But I don't understand people's desires to live out their sadness online. I mean, like, for instance, when I go on Facebook, friends of mine or people that I'm on Facebook who will write about their breakups or that I don't get that. I don't either. Do you? No.
Starting point is 00:34:50 I don't get. I mean, I live a life that's pretty online, but I would never do that. You put in your worst moments out there for other people, man. That's kind of private. And then I also worry sometimes I'll see people put like, I'm, you know, I'll see people put like cryptic messages that makes me worry about them. Yeah. You know, and I don't, I don't understand the desire to do that. I watched hers to defend her a little bit.
Starting point is 00:35:14 She made the video because she was saying this wasn't supposed to be public. I want to not do this. I want to be in bed and cry for a week. But because he's done that, I, she's like, my phone's blowing up. People were calling for comment. So she just felt like I should do. So she's, she's, her video. was saying, I can't believe he did this to me.
Starting point is 00:35:30 I want to just lay on my bathroom floor. He deserves criticism for breaking up with her on Instagram. I mean, like, imagine like Mick Jagger in the back in the deck. Because he's huge, isn't he? Oh, yeah. The whole thing is odd to me. The thing that is the least, I am online much more than I want to be, but like young people's entire lives are online.
Starting point is 00:35:55 And Ryan, not only do I not think it's healthy, I also just think it's odd. We're losing that human decency, compassion element that we were born with. We're losing it because now everything has to be online. I just can't imagine you break up with someone on Instagram. That's sad. It is sad. Even for famous people, it's sad.
Starting point is 00:36:14 Let's go to Jacob. What's up, Jay, or excuse me, Little John. What's up, Little John? Hey, Matt. Hey, everybody. Love the show. Thanks, ma'am. Hey, this is first time, long time.
Starting point is 00:36:27 Who are? Yeah, I've been to a few of the live shows, the first time calling in. Anyway, I tried to call yesterday. Can I tell you a quick fan heckler story from my past free? Very quickly, yes. Okay, so me and my best buddy, when the Yom Center first opened up, I was like, you know, I got tickets for us to go to see Louisville and Georgetown. And he goes, why the hell would you get tickets for that?
Starting point is 00:36:51 And I was like, well, let's go there. That was Georgetown won, didn't they? And didn't they win that game? Yeah, they did. I said, well, cheer for Georgetown, even though. we're not Holyos fans and we'll wear all our UK gear and just annoy all the Louisville fans and we were just in there having a great time annoying on them all and at one point I even called the score operator who runs the big screen of the Louisville and I was saying there's a technical
Starting point is 00:37:15 issue I looked up the phone number there's a technical issue they got this crappy Louisville game on the screen can y'all put the Kentucky game on please and everybody around the crowd just hated us but we were having such a good time seeing Georgetown beat them and we even saw New Orleans Noel that night and my friend spotting them out because I guess he had a recruiting visit there. He said, don't go to Louisville. Come to Kentucky. Well, I appreciate to call.
Starting point is 00:37:39 Call the score operator to tell them to put a different game on. During the game. That's a different level. That's a boss move. That's a different level of taunting. I've never heard of calling the score operator in the middle of the game and going, where you put the Kentucky game on. I wouldn't do it, but I respect it. I like it.
Starting point is 00:37:56 Yeah. That's something else. Let's go to Jacob. up, Jacob. Hey, Matt, how are you doing today? Bring the excitement, as always, Jacob. Billy is right about the female microphone. He did sound different on there. Oh, okay. Well, thanks for letting me know. And I'm wanting to know, I'm wanting to know if I can hear the game tonight on the, on the app I have. Yes, the game will still be on the eye, all the eye heart. channels 840, 630, 9801, your app.
Starting point is 00:38:38 The radio call of the game is the same. It's just television you have to have it on your computer. I appreciate your time, Matt. Appreciate you, Jake. Thank you, sir. Thank you very much. He just appreciated your call. I just, I like Jacob.
Starting point is 00:38:58 If you remember, this, Jacob does that a couple times of years. He just acts in and asks me what channel it's on. I like that. He doesn't have Google. He doesn't have Google. That's okay. 859-280-2287. The NBA is finally back. Tonight, Reid Shepherd plays his first game. Okay. Antonio Reeves plays his first game. And a new season means you should get involved.
Starting point is 00:39:20 Well, actually, that's not what I want to do. Never mind. I'll tell you what. This got a lot going on. Let's take a break. We'll be right back. This is Kansas. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses.
Starting point is 00:40:52 Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on Earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy
Starting point is 00:41:50 in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reed. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers while he got the ball.
Starting point is 00:42:10 Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the Fourth.

Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. story I've told myself about love or relationships can then shape my behavior and that can lead me

Starting point is 00:43:59 or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back. Sports Radio, one of my favorite things is the fact that after all these years, people still don't get why I say it's on the computer. They still will write me. I've now been doing that for seven or eight years. People will still write me and go, you know, it's not just on the computer. I do. But I like to say that.
Starting point is 00:44:27 It's a bit. It's a bit. It's like when I say text machine, it's not an actual machine. It's an act. but I say the game is on the computer and you know it's kind of like a salute to the people that have been listening for a long time
Starting point is 00:44:41 and it's factual because it is on the computer it is I mean there are other ways tablets TVs but there are other ways 59280 2287 Fernando Valenzuela died I knew you'd want to talk about that Ryan that feels like one of your era heroes yeah I believe it was 1981 he broke into the big leagues
Starting point is 00:45:00 and just this chubby Hispanic dude that looked up in the sky before he delivered the ball. He was just a phenomenon. And Fernando Mania kind of not just took over the Dodgers in Los Angeles, took over all of America in baseball. He was just unbelievable because he didn't, he looked like somebody that just walked down the street, didn't look like an athlete at all,
Starting point is 00:45:18 yet he was really, really good. Yeah. I mean, he was like, he was good for a while, but he was a one year like Fina, his rookie year. Like people don't, it's hard to talk about how famous he was for a year. It was crazy. Because baseball doesn't really. really get that anymore where everybody
Starting point is 00:45:35 just all decides to revolve around. But for one year, I think in 1980, was it 80? I think it was 1980. He was the biggest sports celebrity there was for a year. And I think people liked it because before he would pitch, as he was lined up, he'd look up at the sky. Be like in the middle of your golf swing, just look it out into the distance.
Starting point is 00:46:00 And then he would put his eyes down and throw it. and he had some injuries. He did throw a no-hitter. There's a famous story that he walked out. He was about to pitch in like a random day. And he looked at a guy and goes, today I'm throwing a no-hitter. And then he did.
Starting point is 00:46:14 He did. Whoa, I didn't know that part. Yeah, he called his shot. Apparently never said that any other game. But he walked out and he looked at whoever the first basement was for the Dodgers and said, I'm going to throw a no-hitter today. And then he did. 30-for-30 did a thing on him.
Starting point is 00:46:30 And it was, I don't know, maybe five years ago. but he would still, when he'd walk around Dodger Stadium, he was just still revered like some God because he just, people loved him. They fell in love with him for that short time. Mark Pope threw his wife under the bus yesterday said it was not him that ran out of gas. It was her that ran out.
Starting point is 00:46:48 Be careful, Mark. Be careful. Nick Roushrode at KSR was his first big mistake as coach. Yep. He said it wasn't he. It wasn't me. It was her. Now, Tyler Thompson, by the way,
Starting point is 00:47:00 has a great profile of Mark. Pope's wife on KSR this morning. Really awesome. Probably the best look at the family since they've been here. You used to check it out. But what did you think, Drew, of Mark saying, it wasn't me, it was my wife. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:47:16 I think you just got to eat that one, Mark. I mean, everyone thought it was you. So just stick with it. Everyone was laughing. It was all in fun. No harm, no foul. I would have just taken that one with me and I would have been the guy that run out of gas
Starting point is 00:47:26 and she could have kept living her life. Does he look like a better husband? Wife runs out of gas? Leads his meeting. I mean, he said he was in a meeting, left his meeting, took his staff to go pick his wife up and get her gas. Maybe he looks sweeter doing that. He looks more endearing, but you got to take, like Drew said, you got to take one for the team. Even if it was her, you still let people blink, it was you.
Starting point is 00:47:50 Be the better husband because that was, I was embarrassed for him when he said that. Really? Yeah. I'm like, dude, you got to eat that one. You got to like, everybody thinks it's you right now anyway. yeah, you came to a rescue, but protect your wife. How does nobody have a video of that? That's what I couldn't believe.
Starting point is 00:48:05 I don't understand. He said multiple people on Broadway honked, like pulled and said hi. How did no one take a video? I mean, if it wasn't for the woman on Twitter, how did no one take a video? I waited all afternoon for something to pop up, someone to send it to us, it'd be on a website or message board, no evidence. Next time you see Mark Pope in the wild. rescuing, I don't mean just filming him anywhere, but rescuing his wife with a gas can.
Starting point is 00:48:36 I think we got a, we got to have video, right? It was in a tough area down there where it happened. I guess when people came up on it, they didn't have time to get their phone out, their camera out and shoot it. Where was it? It was right down here on Broadway, close to downtown, wasn't it? The tweet didn't say where it just said Broadway. Yeah, it just said Broadway.
Starting point is 00:48:52 So I almost boomed Cody Feger with my car a few days ago downtown. Oh, really? Yeah. right in front of my hood. He's standing there. I almost rolled down the window and said, hey, but I'm not going to say he was jaywalking. I'm not going to say it wasn't either. But yeah, I locked up the brakes and looked up,
Starting point is 00:49:07 and there's a guy right in front of me, Cody Figer. Yeah, that's interesting. And the amount of sightings are good. A couple people on the Georgetown College basketball team told me they worked out here in Lexington. And the coach, I guess, took them to our bar. and this is like on 3.30 on a Tuesday. And then like three UK players walked in.
Starting point is 00:49:32 And he said they were almost kind of staring at each other, even though neither of them knew who was what? Like, what are you doing? What are you doing? They're like the only people that was in the place. I like the 3.30 p.m. basketball stair down between Kentucky and Georgetown College. I did have a guy told me that the football team, I mean, the basketball team, they're kind of anonymous right now.
Starting point is 00:49:56 They can go to places and people really don't know who they are. It's about to change when they start playing. How many people, how many players right now do you think are even recognized? I mean, outside of Travis Perry and Trent Noah? I bet Trent Noah is not recognized. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:10 I bet you. Trent Noah went by me on a scooter on campus recently. Trent Noah, if you haven't paid attention, Trent Noah just looks like any other kid. Yeah. I bet you really only only Travis Perry.
Starting point is 00:50:24 I mean, I guess if you're Garrison, Williams, or Carr, you're so tall that you would stand out for that reason. But I'm sure these other guys are walking around campus almost like they're unknown. Yeah, that's what the guy told me. He goes, you're anonymous right now. Nobody knows who they are. How many, what percent of our fans do you think would know who Kobe Bray is? If they saw him. Just passing on the street?
Starting point is 00:50:52 I think very few. He's pretty tall. I think that helps a little. He's like 6.3. No, he's taller in that. He's about 6.6. Is he that big? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:01 I think all these heights are exaggerated. But let's just, I mean, I don't think, you know, a dude that 611 stands out. Yes. But I don't know. How many people you even think know what Jackson Robinson looks like? Probably very few. I saw Jackson Robinson on campus walk right past him and he was wearing an NBA draft Combine participant T-shirt.
Starting point is 00:51:22 And still nobody's talking. That was a pretty big giveaway. I think only one person on campus has those right now. I just, I think, I mean, we're wrapped up in it. But I think this is the most anonymous. A UK basketball team has ever been. There will, if you just put some of these players in the student section tonight, I think a lot of our fans wouldn't even know.
