Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

I'm Timbo, and every episode we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue 42. A rep, my mama want you to wave at her.
Starting point is 00:01:30 What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Cliverts show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. The story I've told myself can then shape my behavior, and that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection. This Mental Health Awareness Month,

Stockton Mortgage, NMLS-8259 Equal Housing Lender, NMLS Consumer Access.org. Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287. Got some open lines. Slow on the phone this morning.
Starting point is 00:03:56 Give us a shout. Are you excited about this basketball season? I hope you are because I certainly am. Court, physical therapy, this is a sponsor of this segment. No reason to be in pain. So go to court. If you had tickets to the game tonight, you certainly wouldn't not use them. So go to court physical therapy because you might still have health benefits until the end of the year.
Starting point is 00:04:14 Go check it out. It's court physical therapy. Stay in the best health before the holidays with court rehab, K-O-R-T.com. Kentucky and Auburn Saturday. The vibes are not great. How do you feel? Auburn's the worst team in the SEC. Mississippi State is, but they're probably second.
Starting point is 00:04:34 Yeah, if you can't take care of business at home against this team, then there's some bigger issues than we hadn't even talked about. But they've got to take care of this. They've got to win this one. Yeah, I'm thinking bigger picture. You would have lost every home SEC game when you had a very manageable home SEC schedule outside of Georgia. Yeah, I mean, you would have had Auburn, South Carolina, and Vandy,
Starting point is 00:04:56 all three of which were projected to be three of the worst six. teams in the conference at home and you'd have lost all of them. Auburn's lost five in a row. Vandy's preseason win total was three, even though they've been much better than that South Carolina. We know all about it, but these were three that when we're coming up with our preseason predictions, I mean, you're writing these in Sharpie almost as wins and could go 0 and 3. Can't do it, man. They need to show up. We need to see some fight and you need to show and you need to get the ball in the end zone. They won't lose to Murray, but I worry if they
Starting point is 00:05:26 look bad again. It's just, they're broken. Well, not just that. I'm just saying the players will have, well, I would assume we'll start checking out if they haven't already. If they just look so sloppy for a third consecutive game. I think the combination of the basketball team starting Wednesday, the regular season starting soon after, remember we have a buy after the Tennessee game. Yeah. Yeah. I think the fans will be, they'll be out, right?
Starting point is 00:05:52 Because you lose to Auburn, your chance of making a bowl gone. I think the fans will be done. And for people who think that doesn't matter, Jared Lorenzen, on this show, he's the one that told us all, like, oh, yeah, we know it, we feel it. If we're football players, we know it when the fan base checks out
Starting point is 00:06:09 and jumps on basketball. I mean, I can't imagine how empty it would be for that Murray game. A noon start, right? Yeah. Like a noon start in November. If you're coming off a couple bad performances. I mean, and that's also, like, that'll be awful.
Starting point is 00:06:25 People will still care about the Louisville game, because they just do. Yeah. But that game could be like, well, I mean, that could be a game that sort of is symbolic like the game was with Vandy. I don't think we'll lose. Apparently Murray is just awful, awful. But it could be a really bad look. Oh, definitely.
Starting point is 00:06:47 They'll be fine against Murray. They're that bad. I mean, you could sleepwalk out there and beat Murray. But they have to win this Auburn game and look good. Or it's just going to add to the bigger picture around Stoops and all the complaints. and people wondering, you know, if there's any life left in that regime. What is the level of discontent today with Mark Stoops? I mean, now that the settle, now it's settled from Saturday,
Starting point is 00:07:14 everybody's got their emotions out. They've had a day or two to process it. I still get the sense that the online part is different than the radio part and the sort of regular fan part. but you're out and about, Ryan. Where do you think the level of fan is? I don't think it's as bad as it is online. People are still disappointed and they're upset with way it has happened.
Starting point is 00:07:36 But yet I think those people are still out there. They're like, man, just beat Auburn, beat Murray, and beat Louisville and get us to a ball. I think there are a lot of people still hanging on to that. It's interesting how much we feel like we can beat Louisville that people still, I mean, like, you know, they were projected top 15. And we still feel like, well, at least we're going to beat Louisville. I mean, I do think there's, there are people out there who probably think we got a better shot against Louisville than Auburn, right? I am probably one of those people, to be honest. Really? You are?
Starting point is 00:08:04 Well, Stoops just finds a way to get them fired up. There is a hatred for Louisville in that locker room. We see it every year. It doesn't matter their record. Kentucky shows up for that game. I also think Louisville's defense is horrible. I watched that whole Miami game last week. They couldn't stop anybody.
Starting point is 00:08:19 I know Kentucky's offense isn't Miami's offense or even close to it. But I'm oddly confident in Louisville. And they've had a very disappointing season for them. too. I mean, they already have three losses. Probably should have, it could have four or five. Could have lost to Georgia Tech, could have lost to Virginia. So they they have struggled. And so
Starting point is 00:08:38 you know, I think we know how it's going to play out, man. That's going to come down. Kentucky's on five wins. So you think we're going to beat Auburn? I hope that's right. All right. So we have Mario, your phone says you're from Roncota, Toma, New York. Is that right?
Starting point is 00:08:56 Yes, I'm not sure where that is, though, but that's where it says I'm front. Wait a minute. You don't know where it is, where it says you're from? No, I do not know where Wama, Toka, New York is. I don't know where that is. On this phone, it says like R-O-N-T-O-K-O-A. Yeah, I don't know where that is. Ronko-T-O-A-N-O-Y-R.
Starting point is 00:09:25 I think they just made that up. All right. Well, all right. So you have two tickets from T.J. Smith. And I told you to pick a place that would be a little unique that wouldn't necessarily be where our audience think it would be. And the first person that comes gets, first person that comes gets two tickets to the game from T.J. Smith. So tell me, where did you pick? Get this. I'm at Solid Core, which is a Pilates place here at the summit at Fritz Farm. somewhere that a lot of people wouldn't expect me to be at. That's fair.
Starting point is 00:10:00 You're at the solid core Pilates place in the summit? I am. Are you trying to be like a housewife? Like, what are you doing? I'm not. At this time of day, that's who's there. Are women, like, getting in shape? Like, that's who's there.
Starting point is 00:10:20 Is that why you're there? No, well, I thought you said to put. some, pick somewhere random. And I said, that's as random as it gets. You know, a Pilates place, I feel like a Pilates place, you find a Pilates place in every city. And I thought this is a perfect opportunity to kind of learn a little bit more about it. So I'm hearing. Oh, you're trying to learn a little bit more about it.
Starting point is 00:10:42 Okay. Well, I understand, Mario. Hey, I can't hate on you. He wants to learn a little bit more, Drew, about the whole Pilates thing. He's right. When he said random, could they give any place more random? I agree. All right.
Starting point is 00:10:53 So you're going to be at Solid Core Pilates. You turn your camera on there, and then you hang on hold. Text me when you get somebody. First person that comes in, we'll give them tickets and we'll talk to him, okay? All right. Just stay on hold and wait for, and so first person, put him on hold there, Rick. So the first person that gets in to Ron Concoma, New York's own Mario will get two tickets in the eighth row for tonight's game. Maybe all you got to do is happen to be close to solid core Pilates.
Starting point is 00:11:24 I'm totally throwing the flag on Mario to show up at a Pilates place in the middle of the day knowing what clientele's coming in he ain't stupid he knows what he's doing it doesn't feel as weird though is when you went to Victoria's Secret I mean it feels like I don't know why it just doesn't feel quiet as weird
Starting point is 00:11:40 was the Botox spa not available I mean it feels like that's the that's the clientele he would have liked for him to go to a boat talk about his lady may go why did you do you do solid core Pilates is the choice opposite into town. He made a trip from down here and let down town. He did make a trip. All right. We'll see who ends up being the one to get the tickets. Let's go to Charlotte. What's up Charlotte?
Starting point is 00:12:05 Do you know if Coach Pope will do his post-game show Courtside? I'm going to suspect that not only does he do it courtside, I'll be shocked if he missed one all year. I think he will do it. And whereas I think in the last few years, that's not necessarily been the most fun thing. I think he's going to embrace it. People always ask me, can I get autographs? Can I do this? I'm not saying for sure because I have no idea. But I'm going to bet you especially this year,
Starting point is 00:12:36 Drew, Mark Pope, doing that post-game radio will be like a thing. Oh, yeah. And he'll probably stay out there and keep talking. You know, he loves getting in front of the fan base, being new, putting that excitement in. It wouldn't shock me at all if he's like an Oscar Sheboy where they're like, Mark, come on, we got to go. We've got to give you to the back. So I would, Charlotte,
Starting point is 00:12:54 answer your question, I think he almost certainly will be there. And I think it will be, especially tonight, I think tonight has a chance to be kind of a special experience with that because it'll be the first time he's done it. He played here when Rick, who kind of started that whole thing, when Rick was doing it, I think it'll be really neat, Charlotte. Thank you. Appreciate the call. Yeah, I hadn't thought about that, Ryan, but I think, I think that's going to be kind of a special thing with him doing it. I think we all probably agree. Not only would he do every one,
Starting point is 00:13:31 he won't be mean to the fans, he won't talk down to the fans, he'll sign all your balls, he'll do every single thing as gracious as he possibly can't. I mean, this was true of Cal and it was true of Rick. The first years they did that, they loved doing it. I mean, Cal loved doing it.
Starting point is 00:13:44 He sure did. He loved it. You know, he complained about having to sign the dimpled balls. But otherwise, I mean, he ate it up. Sure. He would often stay after. And I think, you know, when this is still new and this is still fresh,
Starting point is 00:13:57 I think people, uh, people, people, people do really enjoy doing it. Let's go to Chris. What's up, Chris? Uh,
Starting point is 00:14:04 nothing much. Nothing much. I know we got, uh, basketball going on tonight, but I saw something last night about Maryon Brown breaking the, uh, the record for most kick returns.
Starting point is 00:14:16 I don't know if it was just me. Or if it even happened at all, but it looked like after Florida scored one of their touchdowns. And, uh, kicker got. down to the end zone where Berion was, it looked like to me that Berion was kind of telling him, like, kick me the ball next time, and let me show you what can happen.
Starting point is 00:14:34 But I know we got basketball tonight. I'm excited to see what, uh, that was a special kick return. I mean, it got, it gets lost in the shuffle of the fact we were down three touchdowns. But that was one of the more impressive kick returns. And I appreciate the call. That was one of the more impressive kick returns, Drew, I've ever seen. I mean, like, he broke tackles. He had bursts of speed.
Starting point is 00:14:55 but he stopped. I mean, that was a heck of a return. Yeah, he almost came to a complete stop when he did that stiff arm kind of stepped back and found a new lane. I think that might, we've had some fun, Barry on Brown moments. That might be his single best play.
Starting point is 00:15:08 I mean, at Louisville was more impactful on the game, but just as far as him showing off his talent and how impressive it was, I think that was his best play we've seen. Kind of like the James Young dunk against Yukon. It's going to get lost in the fact that we lost. But that was impressive. trying to think what are some other
Starting point is 00:15:26 moments that happened in a loss that we forget that were really cool well Isaac Comfrey shot against North Carolina and Isaac Comfrey's against Texas A&M I mean Isaac Comfries had two amazing
Starting point is 00:15:43 moments that both got overshadowed in losses those are good ones both of those are really good yeah Isaac Comfrey what else I'm trying to think of a football one I had to think for a minute yeah because again you you just forget them.
Starting point is 00:15:58 Yeah. When you lose the game. Well, I mean, Sean Woods is obviously one. Yeah. The Sean Wood shot before the Leitner shot. Oh, I got one. Patrick Sparks, ball bouncing on the rim. Michigan State.
Starting point is 00:16:13 Against Michigan State. I mean, that's an amazing play that unfortunately kind of goes into the history book says, well, we still lost in overtime. I always feel bad too. Ramele Bradley hit a shot in the SEC tournament in the tornado game that would have won. would have beat Georgia and then that Zach, whatever his name is.
Starting point is 00:16:29 The little guy. He hit the game winner. I'm looking ahead to Auburn. That Cam Newton Randall Cobb game, Randall Cobb did some unbelievable things to think Kentucky in that. It was just you're playing Cam and Cam was Cam that night. Jared Lorenzen against Matt Jones. Yeah. The seven overtime game. I mean like Jared had several.
Starting point is 00:16:49 Jared had some unbelievable plays during that and we just ended up losing. All right, Bourbon, A reminder of the drawing for the next ultimate bourbon collection from Commonwealth Causes is November 7th. $20,000 in bourbon is up for grabs. Wow, that's amazing. Pappy Van Winkle, six bottles. W. L. Weller, six bottles.
Starting point is 00:17:10 Blanton single barrel, eight bottles. Wow. How do they get all this? I don't know. Like, this stuff's supposed to be hard. How are they getting all this? I don't know, but us regular folk, we need to win these to get them. Tickets are limited in the drawing is November 7th.
Starting point is 00:17:25 So go to commonwealthcauses.org. Remember, a part of this helps fund NIL at UK for basketball. Commonwealth Causes.org before November 7th, the $20,000 bourbon raffle. I mean, I don't, those are like the big ones, right? $30,000 worth of bourbon. They're raffling at all. I don't even know if I had $30,000 worth of a bar. Like, would you feel like you could drink it?
Starting point is 00:17:48 No. Do you just look at it? I don't think you feel like you can drink that. I'm drinking it. I'm drinking it. I'm not just on a random night watching TV. but it's getting open for a celebration. You get $30,000 of Dr. Pepper Zero.
Starting point is 00:17:59 I'm doing it. All right, Mario has a winner. We'll tell it so you don't have to go to the Pilate store unless you just want to hang out with Mario and like, quote, learn what this is. Mario and his winner will be right back. This is KSR. Last night, a blown call changed a game.
Starting point is 00:18:15 This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context and ask the questions everybody wants answered.
Starting point is 00:18:50 Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slic Life 12 and the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking. Trip Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
Starting point is 00:19:30 And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross. Because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Starting point is 00:19:46 Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
Starting point is 00:20:07 And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:20:30 I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash will get that thing.
Starting point is 00:20:51 That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Oh, yeah. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
Starting point is 00:21:04 So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the Fourth. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game.
Starting point is 00:21:20 This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker.
Starting point is 00:21:42 Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, I'm Jared Adano. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet. Help! Somebody! Please! But there's so much more to me than me. I'm an actor. I'm a comedian. And recently, I've become quite the helper myself.
Starting point is 00:22:04 And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike! I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff rant recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man. If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary.
Starting point is 00:22:30 Oh, cream of chicken suit. Hey, cream. Cream a chicken suit. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hypocrat as part of the Mike Coutura podcast network available on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:22:48 Welcome back to Tegu Sports Radio. Andre Woodson had five touchdowns, 430 yards passing against Tebow in the Game Day game we lost. Oh, goodness. I was trying to think during the break about great plays we forget about than a loss.
Starting point is 00:23:05 Billy Jack Haskins when he had he separated soldiers. The run against Tennessee? Yeah. Oh, what a run. Yeah. That's an all-timer. For you young fans that haven't seen it, you got to look up Billy Jack's run.
Starting point is 00:23:16 against Tennessee. We lost that game, but that's one for the ages. The other thing was nominated for an SPee that year. Yes, it was unbelievable. One person writes, the Will Levis pass on 4th and 24 against Tennessee. That was a great play. And then they came and scored the final touchdown. That was an amazing play. Well, just, I was there two years ago at Ole Miss where it's not really specific play, but going the length of the field, hitting Dane Kee for a touchdown,
Starting point is 00:23:43 just to have it taken away from you. I mean, we felt it and it happened, but still. end up with a loss. Kelden Johnson's half-court shot against Seton Hall. And yeah, that's completely forget about that. That one, I mean, that's one of the best. Is that the best half-court shot? When else has a shot been hit from that?
Starting point is 00:24:00 That was that important. That was that important. We lost in overtime, but we were down three. He said a, he had a half-court shot to send it to overtime. Didn't Vern Hatton. The one. The nail, right? The nail on the court at Memorial Coliseum.
Starting point is 00:24:12 Yeah. I mean, that's not on television, is it? I don't think I've ever seen it. Jim Master, last second shot tied the game against Illinois in 83. Do you remember that one? I don't remember that one. No. I don't really remember that one either.
Starting point is 00:24:29 A lot of people say Boom Williams had a touchdown run against Florida in 2014 that was awesome. But I don't remember that one either. The boom touchdown run and they took off the board from the play clock expiring in that one game. Is that what he's talking about? That might be what they're talking about. Yeah, oh, the play clock. That still makes me mad at that road game against Florida. I mean, that would have made us, what, maybe three straight road wins at Florida, something like that?
Starting point is 00:24:53 Yes, that is the most annoying. All right, Mario is there at Pilates. Mario, you have a winner. Yes, I do. I have a winner. Right here, his name is Michael. He literally came maybe one or two minutes right as soon as we announced. He's the first one.
Starting point is 00:25:08 All right. So did you have to tell other people no? Yes. I just told my fifth person who came, no. Okay, all right. He's pretty sad about it. All right, let's go to my, let me have Michael there for a second. Michael, how are you?
Starting point is 00:25:25 I'm good, sir. How are you doing, Matt? Good. Were you just hanging out at the Pilates place? Were you getting work out? How did you get in there quickly? You know, actually was over for work at the local office here and just happened to you hop in the car as you guys get the location out.
Starting point is 00:25:38 And I've had a quick sprint over here to meet Mario and just lucked out, man. So I appreciate you guys. Well, congratulations. Who are you going to take to the game tonight? I don't know yet. Maybe the wife, maybe a friend will see out. Maybe someone at the Pilates Studio. You better be careful. I understand. Well, congrats, Michael. Give your phone number and email to Mario there, okay? We'll do. Appreciate it, Matt. All right. Let me have Mario. Mario? So since what did you learn about Pilates while you were there? solid core
Starting point is 00:26:14 I didn't get to learn too much about it because I've been setting up my camera but I learned that at the store there's a lot of I would say it's not small store it looks like inside I haven't been able to learn too much and I got some weird looks
Starting point is 00:26:30 I'm getting weird books I'm shocked I thank you Mario appreciate it we got some words of advice for Michael you don't want to publicly say I may take my wife while you're standing out in front of a
Starting point is 00:26:43 Pilate Studio. Be very careful, Michael. By the way, I love that Mario chose the Pilate Studio. He is training to be a young Ryan Leonard. And he's just getting started. Let's go to Brian. What's up, Brian? Hey, man.
Starting point is 00:27:02 How you doing? Doing good. Jared Lorenzen is behind the back pass against Georgia. Oh, yeah. That's a good one. That's a really good one. Go ahead. I just, what do y'all think?
Starting point is 00:27:14 With Mark Pope here, and I know he went through it when he played for Rick and all that, but do you think they'll ever, which I'm probably already already know the answer, but I just want to see what you guys say. Do you think they'll ever breaking the camp out back? No, I don't. I think the combination of there's not an obvious place to do it. And then I just think there's a liability part of it, which is you have all these people sort of under your control. I wish they would. But remember, I mean, the notion of that, it was kind of a natural thing that was created to literally stand in line and you can't do it anymore.
Starting point is 00:27:50 They don't even sell tickets that way anymore. So I just think it's unlikely they do. Right. Okay. I kind of knew the answer, but I just wanted to get your off. Yeah. I appreciate it, man. I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:28:03 I mean, I wish they would. I think it's like, you know, I mean, I am someone that sort of naturally wants to see events that celebrates the average Kentucky man. And that is harder and harder to do. I mean, we've talked about. The SEC tournament was like that for a long time, but now it's gotten so expensive.
Starting point is 00:28:25 I think it's hard. You know, we just don't have a lot of those. Big Blue Madness can be like that. But camp out was that. But I just, I don't know, Ryan. I just don't think it's going to probably come back. Yoga Girl went with me to the Blue White game, and she hadn't been down there in years.
Starting point is 00:28:41 And when we walked around the corner, she goes, oh, this is where we used to camp out. And she's like, it's kind of sad now. Gone. I mean, there's nowhere to go. All those memories in there is nowhere to have it now down here. Yeah, I wish they'd figure out something. I ran into one of the guys at the football game last weekend.
Starting point is 00:28:56 He camped out every year, went to every madness, and he just got on Ticketmaster, didn't get anything. I wish they could find a way to at least give people the opportunity that camped out for so many years to be able to go to Madness because that was the first one he's ever missed, just because he didn't win the Ticketmaster draw. Rob Dillingham against LSU last year. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:13 Remember he got insanely hot in the last minute and we were down like eight or ten, tied it, and then they hit the shot to win at the end. the more we think about it, there's going to be these games where we had these heartbreaking losses. Like as soon as you said that, I thought about Will, about Jamal Murray had like 32 in the second half against Ohio State. Oh, that's right.
Starting point is 00:29:33 Boy, he was unbelievable in that game. He had like 32 in the second half. In Madison Square Garden. Yeah, that was that. So the Jim Master, by the way, was in the original dream game. Okay. Against Louisville. Okay.
Starting point is 00:29:45 In the NCAA tournament. He hit a shot to tie it. You know, he was one of the guys that walked by when you interviewing Rick Petino and he kind of stopped and watched a little bit of the interview. Yeah, that's interesting. Liggins jumper in the corner. Well, that was to win. I'm talking about ones we forget.
Starting point is 00:30:02 There's a lot of great shots. So the older folks, a lot of people saying Jim Master, that's got to be one. Must be. That's got to be one that hits people. Wasn't it? Yeah, the Dillingham. People forget what a run that was against LSU. He was amazing for like a minute.
Starting point is 00:30:18 And then I scored late. and then LSU just responded in the game. What about Kellyn Grady's 3 to put Kentucky on top of St. Peter's right before overtime? That was a good one. I'm kind of mocking that game. But you're right. That was a big shot. We forget about it.
Starting point is 00:30:33 And we forget about it. That would have been a shot. It was kind of like Brandon Knight against Princeton. If he misses it, you know, we would have lost. Well, we went ahead and lost anyway in overtime, but it would have been worse. 859-280-2287. Take a break. Be right back, KSA.
Starting point is 00:30:51 Welcome back. Tucky Sports Radio. Tucky Chamber of Commerce knows you got to have child care if you want to be able to have a working family. And that's why they're leading the charge through the employer child care assistance program. You can learn more at KYchamber.com slash child care. Investing in child care helps invest in your business and your future. KYchamber.com slash child care. Yes, you do. What'd you do?
Starting point is 00:31:19 Did you like watch over the kiddos when they were young? A helicopter parent? I wasn't the first one. With Gavin, I was a helicopter parent. What does that mean? It means you kind of hover over them the whole time to make sure they're safe. I would have thought it meant you like get in and out. Helicopter parent means you hover.
Starting point is 00:31:34 Yes. So you hovered over your first. Yeah, hover the first one. What about the second one? About half. Third one, Josiah, never. You're on your own kid. But aren't you like always trying to keep him from bringing women home and stuff?
Starting point is 00:31:46 Well, he's got a serious girlfriend now. But you don't want to leave them like together. No, of course you can't. But that's helicopter. I think that's just good parenting. I'm not in the room with them. I'm not hovering over him the whole time. You're just hoping your presence in the building.
Starting point is 00:32:04 We'll distract, yes, things from happening that shouldn't happen. You think that works? Do you, like, walk by the room and make a loud noise so that I know you're not far by? Maybe a little cough that you didn't even have to cough. Drew's making fun, but I do. I walk past his room and pound, and I walk up the stairs and make a lot. You walk past his room and do what? like hit the floor like stomp on the floor like I'm walking. What do you think that's going to do?
Starting point is 00:32:25 Just so they know I'm there. Just a reminder, hey, dad's here. At any moment. At any moment. That's right. Do you, do, would you open the door without knocking? Or do you like consider there's a level of privacy? I don't. Even when he's in there by himself, I knock before I come in. I think that's good. Yeah. I think you got to have boundaries. I think so too. Yeah. But you still sort of, but you know, I mean, he's going to college next year. That's true. Like you're not going to be able to like he's going to. Like, he's going to be able to, like, he's going to. to be what he's going to be at that point. Yeah, until I move and live right beside him on campus.
Starting point is 00:32:55 You know that's a terrible idea, right? Like, you know. Is he getting a little two-bedroom dorm? There was a time I thought you were very serious about that. I'm hoping that's going away. Yeah, because I think he'll be close enough where I can still get to him if I need to. We need to get to it. Like, you know, my car broke down.
Starting point is 00:33:12 I got to. If his car breaks down in Owensboro, you're going to go pick him up? May have to. Yeah, you never know. Some other memorable moments. in losses. Malik Monk, the threes he hit, the two threes he hit to tie the game against Carolina in that same 2017 tournament, the one we mentioned with Isaac Humphreys. One of those was a crazy three.
Starting point is 00:33:38 That was the game winner. That one he hit should have won the game. But then Luke May came down and spoiled the fart, but the party. Yes. You had the Humphrey shot to give us the lead. Then we lost the lead, right? Yeah, I mean, Monk's shot is the one that put him. up, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:55 Mugshot, we were down two. We hit a three and we land. And that should have been the game winner. And then we ended up losing. Tim's Tebow being sacked by Taylor Windham. I still remember that. I still remember that when he got hit, immediately he went down. That was a huge story because people thought like he was like done.
Starting point is 00:34:14 It was an obvious, serious concussion he had as they were carting him off the field. That stadium was silent. And the Florida fans in the corner obviously were even more concerned. But when he laid there, no one really knew anything. anything. Tebow was the biggest name in the sport at that time. Yeah. Anthony Epps three-pointer in the 97 title. Oh, I should have thought of that. Yes, no doubt. That's a got, see, I forgot. That's a moment, a huge shot that we forget in a loss.
Starting point is 00:34:38 I'll tell you one that no one would mention, but a big shout out to 502, 403 for coming for. I'd forgotten this. When we lost to Yukon in the second round in 08, Bobby Pookech. Perry went off in that game. Yeah, he had over 20 points. I think maybe he had like 25 points. And like 23 in the second half. Like he went on the Yukon team that was projected to win the national title. They ended up losing to George Mason. Yeah, they were a one scene. But they were like considered by far the best team. And we were in it until the very end largely because of Bobby Perry. That's right. Probably his breakout biggest game was his last, I think it was his last game. I think he was a senior that day, that night. Yeah, 859-2807. One person writes, this will be my
Starting point is 00:35:27 whiskey thief, text of day. If you set up a camera outside of Pilate Studio, I guarantee you you're going to get weird looks. I didn't think of that through with the camera part. You know, but he's so innocent. Like he just, you know, people kind of. He looks good the day. He's dressed up. He's nice. Yeah, I need to put out that jacket. 859-280-2-2-87. Noah. Go ahead, Noah. How's it going, Matt? Doing good. very excited for this new team, new look, and it's hard to make comparisons, but what would you compare this team to in terms of Cal's teams?
Starting point is 00:36:04 Oh. No, nothing. I mean, there is no comparison. Yeah, then there's really no comparison because you had to pick one. Yeah, I mean, I guess you'd have to pick one that on paper was the least talented but played the hardest. No, no. I'm not talking.
Starting point is 00:36:21 I'm just talking about how to. pieces fit together because it kind of reminds me. Go ahead. Who are you going to say? I was going to say it reminds me of the 2019 team lost in the lead date, just the defensive point guards and kind of Mari Williams, Nick Richards, some shooters in there, Hero, Kelden. Yeah, I mean, that's not a horrible, I mean, it's not a horrible comparison.
Starting point is 00:36:46 Those guys probably weren't as good as shooters as this group, but they probably were a little better off the dribble. I appreciate the call. I mean, you know, there's really no good example, honestly. Maybe that's the best one. I think the team, I'm sticking with Rick's second team, 991, where they won the SEC but were not eligible for the tournament, played fast, shot a lot.
Starting point is 00:37:13 They had a mashburn. We don't really have a mashburn. But, Ryan, that's the one that sticks out to me the most. Yeah, guys, the pieces just fit the formula. And I think that's kind of what Pope has right now. You know, he recruited guys to fit what style he wants to play. I like your analogy of Rick's second team. That's a very unmemorable team.
Starting point is 00:37:33 Yeah. To be honest with you, because it wasn't on television. But it was essentially the Unforgettables and Reggie Hans. Yeah. No, that was the team, right? Kind of a rag-tagged bunch of people that they put it with Rick put together and made it work. It was the unforgettable's, Reggie Hansen, a freshman, Jamal Mashburn.
Starting point is 00:37:53 Yeah, because Travis wasn't there yet. Travis Ford was not there yet. Yeah, that's what I would say. Yeah, the cow, I think it's oil and water trying to put a Cal team with this team. You know, Cal's starting a lineup. They play about 30-something minutes a game, all of them. Pope will go 9, 10 deep.
Starting point is 00:38:09 All guys, no one getting 30 minutes a game. And then, of course, just the philosophy and shooting, I think it's going to be completely different in so many ways. You know, the guy's comparison of the 2019 is not bad. It's not terrible. Ashton Hagen's Lamont Butler. Of the Cal teams, that's probably the best one. That's probably the best one.
Starting point is 00:38:26 I wanted to tell you this because I felt like this would affect you more than anybody. Do you ever fly Sprint or Frontier? Yes. Yeah. Because it's cheap. Because it's cheaper. Frontier flies out of Cincinnati. They fly to Tampa.
Starting point is 00:38:38 They fly to Denver, places I've had to go. So they're talking about merging. Okay. And if they merge, the theory is they will raise their prices and become like a normal airline. Would that make you set? Yeah, I wouldn't do it. I'd go back to Allegiant, all my Allegiant flights. That's what I mean, Allegiant is also cheap. Yeah. So I'd check there first, and if I don't have the flight, then I'd immediately go to Frontier out of Cincinnati. So you will only fly the little cheaper the better. Really? So you don't worry about comfort. No,
Starting point is 00:39:11 I'm a little guy. I know it affects you guys a lot more than it does me. Safety. Well, you know, their, Allegiant was never safer than after the report came out of their safety violations. But you were on it before their safety. Yeah, but I feel like even better after the report came out. They cleaned their act up. They got called out. Yes. Clean your act up.
Starting point is 00:39:31 But I mean, that was foreseeable, right, that the airline that cost $29 to fly to Tokyo might not be a business model that completely. But I believe they've made it a business model that is now safe. Well, that's why they're having to merge. So Sprint and Frontier. going to merge. Well, I mean, they're trying to. They're trying to merge to become like a power airline. I don't like that. I want them to stay cheap. So you would like to have more cheap airlines. Rinky dink, like get the planes from their buddy stand. You would like to have more of those airlines. Yes. Okay. More affordable way of flying. I'm a very highfalutin
Starting point is 00:40:10 traveler. I just won't fly if those are my options. Or I'll take one of the other ones and have stops or pay more. I can't. I took Allegiant one time and we had a delay so we missed our connection and they're like, we only have like three planes. We had to stay overnight just so another Allegiant plane could show up and I thought I'm never dealing with this operation again. I just, it just makes me nervous. I mean, I'm sure the safety difference is tiny. Who knows, somebody will probably send me a stat that they're safer, but there's just something about when I get on one of those planes and I see bolts coming out and they've got duct tape on it. They are the older planes that the other airlines have been done with.
Starting point is 00:40:48 Yeah. So some, you know, old things not necessarily mean they're bad. Look at me. I just wouldn't want to be 30,000 feet in the air when one of my old things decided it was done working. Tell me about Stockton mortgage. Stockton mortgage, you know, you hear me say how they're growing and they're all across the state. Well, I read that text message I got last week from a person in Murray, Kentucky, who used Stockton Mortgage to refinance their house. And it worked for a prefer, he was just bragging on him how they got him to the closing table.
Starting point is 00:41:13 and there were no issues whatsoever. So they can work from you. It's not just in Lexington and Louisville. They're all across the state. And if you live outside of Kentucky, they can also handle your refinance needs, your new construction loan leads, or your home loan needs. So give them a call.
Starting point is 00:41:25 Stockton.com, M&LS, 8259, Equal Housing Lender. Well, I'll get Corey with a good one. Emmanuel quickly against South Carolina. They hit a three-pointer at the buzzer that beat us, but he had like a crazy good game. You know, I feel like we're going to kind of forget over time. Emmanuel Quickly's last season here was he was... He was great.
Starting point is 00:41:43 He was a SEC player of the year. And we don't, well, I don't. I forget how good he really was that year. Best floater in UK basketball history that year. He felt like he made it every time. Every time he made it. When he would get down there five feet in. Every single time.
Starting point is 00:41:58 We'll take a break. Be right back. KSR. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in.
Starting point is 00:42:11 I'm Timbo. Every episode we're cutting through the noise. Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves. Their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. Starting point is 00:43:13 that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person
Starting point is 00:43:29 while you hear on earth or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Keir Gaines as we have real conversations

Starting point is 00:43:53 What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win
Starting point is 00:44:04 no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
Starting point is 00:44:15 We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
Starting point is 00:44:32 And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. Hey, that man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:48 Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the Fourth. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes,
Starting point is 00:45:11 Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app,
Starting point is 00:45:33 Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. If you're watching the latest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, you already know. That's a lot to break down. Norsha accusing Kelly of sleeping with a merry man. They holding Kay Michelle back from fighting Drew. Pinky has financial issues. I like the bougie style of Housewives show.
Starting point is 00:45:53 I think it looks like it's going to be interesting. On the podcast, Reality with the King, I, Carlos King, recap the biggest moments from your favorite reality shows, including the Real Housewives franchise, the drama, the alliances, and the team everybody's talking about. As an executive producer in reality television, I'm not just watching it. I understand the game. As somebody who creates shows, I'll even say this.
Starting point is 00:46:18 At the end of the day, when people are at home, they want entertainment. To hear this and more, listen to Reality with the King on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back, final segment, Kentucky Sports Radio. Clean up a couple things here. Pre-game shows at 4.30 if you're coming to the game, come by the bar, Dollar Wings, perfect. You get the game and the Dollar Wing Wings Day coming at the same time.
Starting point is 00:46:46 It'll be like that all day. We'll be out there, hopefully, assuming we get the equipment working, we will be out there for the pregame show. If not, we might have to be back out in studio, but I hope we will have the equipment working this afternoon. We will definitely have the game on. Definitely have the game on, be on all the televisions, trying to make it work on the big screen,
Starting point is 00:47:04 because there's something about playing off the computer on the big screen, but they are working on that today. Efforting to get going. You know what, look. It's always something. Nobody said this was a high flutant operation where everything works. We have the Allegiant version of our audio visual. We are a little bit like the Allegiant.
Starting point is 00:47:22 Frankie Munez. Do you know Frankie Munez? I know that name. Is that Malcolm in the middle? Malcolm in the middle. Yeah. I got a question. Do you know what he's doing now?
Starting point is 00:47:32 He's a gambler. He's a poker player. It's actually not a bad guess. he's a gay You said that was such like he's a gay boy No would you like to know I'm going to say he is a bodybuilder he has signed a contract
Starting point is 00:47:50 to next year full-time drive in the NASCAR truck series No really Frankie Munis who's 38 years old Wow and is only driven in a handful of races in his life as a hobby
Starting point is 00:48:05 has been signed full time. No kidding. To be in a NASCAR truck team. And you know what they're calling them the name of the team? What is it? Malcolm in the truck. Wow. I was all bored until that.
Starting point is 00:48:21 I feel like there's potential. They just went straight to Malcolm in the truck. Malcolm in the truck. All right. Do you like it? I like the whole part of the story and tell all the name. All right. So you would scrap Malcolm in the truck.
Starting point is 00:48:31 I would scrap that. Yes. Why? That's just. Obviously, If I just said it was Frankie Munez, would you know for sure who it is? No, not he said it was. But if I said he was Malcolm in the truck.
Starting point is 00:48:43 Does he still look like he's 12? He seems like someone that would never get old. Haven't seen him. Don't know what he looks like. He's Agent Cody Banks, I think. So once a race, the announcer is going to have to drop that. Malcolm is in the middle of the race. Malcolm in the truck's right in the middle.
Starting point is 00:49:01 When he's like halfway through the fact, they'll say Malcolm is in the middle. Every single race. I think there should be like a horn and stuff go off anytime he's in the middle. What do you think of the idea of this is like a mid-level to bad team that's doing it? This idea of, look, how do we get attention? Yeah. We hire Malcolm in the middle to drive the truck. Do you like that?
Starting point is 00:49:22 Yes. When else we're going to be talking about just NASCAR truck racing on this show? But it got us to talking about it, got us to notify this team. Now, if I ever, ever, ever turn in a truck race, I'm looking for him. First of all, are you ever, do you ever? even know where a truck race would be? No. I'm trying to say Northern Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:49:43 They don't even rush rush. No, I meant like what channel? Speed channel. There's not. There hasn't been a speed channel in years. I think that was a lot. FS1. I think that's actually where it may be.
Starting point is 00:49:54 Is FS1 or FS2 or something like that. You saw, you know the dude we talked about yesterday with the hair. Yes. The Conway 20 hair. Great video came out of him last night. which is him at the game as he starts to realize he's going viral. Have you seen this video? He's sitting with his friends and he's on his phone and it's getting blown up with people going,
Starting point is 00:50:20 you're going viral. And he's looking panicked. And then he goes, my high school Spanish chat has it. Like that's the moment. He turns around and he's like, my high school Spanish chat has it. And it's great because it's a great moment of you forget like he's just a dude and a
Starting point is 00:50:44 game. Uh-huh. He doesn't even know he's going to be on television. And then next thing you know, he's Conway Twitty all over the country. And the video is so great of him like realizing what is happening to me right now. That moment where, of course, every kid his age wants to go viral. He got that chance because of his hair. He got viral by having a 70s perm at the age of like 19 on a college camp.
Starting point is 00:51:13 Now, he can't cut it. He has to lean into it now, right? Oh, he was already leaning into that thing. You don't wear that to a game with a little preparation. That wasn't just bedhead or anything. That thing was picked out. My grandmother went to the JC Penny salon for a long time to look like that. Do you think he had the thing over his head?
Starting point is 00:51:30 He definitely had the thing over his head. The astronaut helmet? The astronaut helmet? You know, Ryan's done this. You had the surrender Cobra in that game where you went viral. Did you look down? I mean, you were already famous, but was your phone blowing up? Was that Tennessee or what was that?
Starting point is 00:51:44 Tennessee game two years ago, yeah. Yeah, and I ended up showing the people sitting beside me. I'm like, uh-oh. Look at this. Yeah. Back to the JC Penny thing. Do they still do that with women? Oh, yes.
Starting point is 00:51:57 They still put the helmets on them? Well, I know the old school beauty salons is it because my mom, she had one at our house, and they all, yeah, they sit underneath. that but in two thousand twenty four they still i think they still use them in for perms so you had one in your house oh yeah i had like man we just had one in your house mom's beauty shop was connected to our house so all the old ladies you had old women beauty shop in your house every day and it smelled awful so you had like that hair spray yes old woman jacie penny you had that in your house growing up every day i never heard this yeah
Starting point is 00:52:34 Did you get all their gossip? Did you just sit down there and listen? Did you hover over them? No, I stayed away. Stayed far, far away. Wow. Yeah, mom had a... I mean, there is a distinct J.C. Penny Salon.
