I knew they were a little dressed up for the KS Bar general sort of folks. Usually Mario's the best dressed person here, and I knew they had to be doing something. Yeah, Mario has totally been overdressing for our show so far. Yeah, I don't like it. When I first met you were wearing T-shirts. Now you're making all this money. You're buying designer clothes.

First of all, if you haven't read it yet, go on Kentucky Sports Radio, read Tyler Thompson's piece with Mark Pope's wife. It's really, really good.

Gives you a sense of the first lady of Kentucky basketball. She spent the day with Leanne Pope. It's really good. It's on the website. Secondly, my man Drew, he started a year or two ago. He started doing these rapid reactions where as soon as the game's over, they go live on YouTube and they,

and like they talk about the game. So let me give you a little behind the scenes. You know, I'm not going to say I'm petty, but sometimes I'm a little bit petty. So I get a call at the beginning of the year. Well, I get a call a few weeks ago from somebody I really like at UK who says to me, hey, Matt, the rapid reaction videos, y'all can't do those on the field or on the court anymore. That's official JMI after the game property. which I'm like, whatever.

Okay. So I didn't like that, but I said, you know, you let the TV stations go live on the field. You let the TV stations go live on the court. Why can't we do it? You can't. I didn't like that. So I said, all right, let's figure something else out. And I was like, hey, Drew, why don't you guys go outside and be with the fans?

They had already done that sometimes, but I was like, forget about being on the court. When you do it on the court, nobody's there anyway. They don't own the sidewalk. Yes, and they don't own the sidewalk. I read in the First Amendment that you can be on the sidewalk. So now they do it on the sidewalk, and it's become a thing. As people leave Rupp Arena, they wait for them. They get on there.

The other night, Jeff Shepard just popped in off of it. They get special guests. It's right outside of Rupp. Last night, they had more views than the official stream of the post-game press conference, which is what I wanted, because they were being petty. and they were being stupid, and so we just did our own thing, and we beat them anyway. And by we, I mean, Drew, so congratulations, and I just wanted to say that. Thank you for saying that.

And Stephen, Jack, Zach, Adam, Nick, everyone that does some football, basketball. We have a lot of fun. They're very off the cuff. You know, we don't have the stats in front of us. It's a live video, stand on a sidewalk, but it's been a blast. And since going outside, the numbers have exploded. Exactly. I don't care if it's going to be snowing in December.

We're going outside. I would love to see anyone outside Rupp Arena. Give the, ultimately, the best way to get people to care about your product is to less talk about trying to hog it, but give people what they want. And the vision of KSR has always been give the fans what they want, and Drew and Jack and Jacob and all those guys, Stephen. They've been doing that, and I'm glad it was nice to see 14,000 people watched it right as it came on live. I'd like to see what other videos get that. So, Ryan, I was happy. The last one's that approaching 50,000.

50,000 people. That is grassroots TV right there. You're out there amongst them, so to speak. Yeah, kick us out. We'll beat you from the outside. Well, thanks for the shout-out. Love it. And if anyone's going to games, football or basketball, find us outside as soon as it ends.

I mean, I loved Mark Pope as a player. I was not on board the Pope train when he first was hired, but I was converted pretty quickly after a year-all's call with Mitch and then after attending the press conference at Rupp. But at least for me until last night, everything kind of felt like a question mark in terms of execution. But, you know, right now, I mean, I feel like I'm in Cloud 9. It's like I feel like we could be watching the emergence of something great

because, you know, I really feel like Mark, Mark, Pope may be reinventing college basketball. Oh, wow. What exhibition gave it? He's reinventing college basketball. We don't. Could be. I mean, we don't have any megastars, but if I had to describe Mark Pope, it would be like

if Billy Bean and Ted Lassow had a baby. Oh, you know what? That's actually not a bad combination. You know, Billy Bean and Ted Lassow together, you know, I'm kind of in the midst of finishing season three of Ted Lassow. And the Mark poke Ted Lassow, that's not a terrible comparison. Can't you see Mark going to Mitch Barthard every morning with a biscuit and saying good morning? Yes, I can.

Dude, that's a really, I appreciate the call. That's going to be my whiskey thief comparison of the day. That is a really good call. Have you watched Ted Lassow? Oh, yeah. And there is that innocence that they both have and yet that insightful analytical mind they both have. I can see a very strong comparison. Dude, all he needs is a mustache.

He seems too happy. Ted Lassel has a tinge of sadness under him because of his wife and he misses his wife. And he doesn't really know anything about soccer, but there's the Billy Bean part of Mark Pope. I really like that. Mark Pope and Ted Lassow. Someone should take Ted Lassow's mustache and face and put it on Pope. Do that meld. I like that.

I'm eating lunch after the show. Give me about an hour. It'll be up this afternoon. I do. I actually really like that. Ryan, the biggest upset in college football in a number of years by Vegas spreads took place last night. Well, actually, Alabama Bandy was a little more, but I'm going to argue this one was even bigger. Do you know what happened?

Was it the Jacksonville State game? No. That's the only one I saw it was on. Kennesaw State. Kennesaw State. Kenesaw State has been in FBS for this is their third year. Okay. They've existed as a football program, or no, they've existed long of this,

but they have basically for eight years played FCS, or what, FBS. I never know what we're in. Division one. They've played Division I teams for eight years. Okay. For six of those years, they also played FCS. In eight years, never won a game against an FBS team, okay? They went O-FER in their conference the last two years.

This year, they played. they play last night. They've won a game, but it was against an FCSD. They play Liberty. Liberty went undefeated last year. Liberty made the Fiesta Bowl last year. Lost to Oregon 60 to 3, but you know what? We're not going to talk about that.

They made it. This year, some people thought they were a dark horse for the playoff. Remember their president had a pool boy and a wife and all that. So that's a whole different story. It has nothing to do with this game. But anyway, they played last night. Liberty was a 29-point favorite. and Kennesaw State beat them.

Did they? They got their first ever FBS win in the history of the program last night against Liberty. Nice. I don't know anything about Kennesaw State, but I'm excited they got the big win over Liberty. But that's why they play the games, Drew. You never know what's going to happen. That's exactly why. I thought you were going to derail with Fade this when you were describing Liberty.

That's more of a conversation we have on our podcast. Now, listen, Liberty scandal. I don't think he's still the president, is he? I don't know. It's Jerry Falwell's kid. Yes. You know about what happened, Mario? There was a pool boy.

She's the delight. She's the first lady in Kentucky now. Got a little advice for her to do something that my wife does. Before I go out in public, my wife kind of checked my clothing out. She might want to check the coaches' clothing out. He had a little malfunction there at the luncheon, tip off luncheon. Go back and check the video there. What's what happened?

But my trip. Pope split his pants at the luncheon. Oh, he did. Pope split his pants. I didn't know that. But see, again, that's very Ted Lassau-like. Ted Lassau would split his pants at the lunch. Early in the event, kind of used his hands to cover it the whole time.

I like that. My trivia question, you guys, and I'll jump off here, what is the number one spoken word by callers on your KSR calling show? Do you know the answer or are you asking me the answer? I know the answer, but I'll see what you guys think. Well, I mean, the number one spoken word. Are we talking about recently or like of all time? Of all times.

It's not a word, but one of the phrases is appreciate the call. Did you say that after a call? That's what I say, though. That's not what the caller say. Well, I don't know. Give me the answer. That's it. Uh-oh.

The pause. The pause. I appreciate the call. You know, so I have a friend that says one of his favorite things about the show is that when I say, hey, man, got 15 seconds or I got 30 seconds, he was like, you find a way people get slower when you say that to him. He was like, as soon as you tell them a time frame, he was like, they freeze up, and he said they get slower, and it makes me laugh every single time.

And I've started to notice he's right about that. If I say 30 seconds, the person takes 10 seconds. 10 seconds to even then get going. I can get it being intimidating, though. You know, we wake up and do this every morning. It feels like we're just sitting on a couch talking by now. But, you know, if you're calling in and you're not used to doing this and then you get put on a clock, I could see how that would startle you a little bit.

Get you thrown off. Yeah. Especially when Shannon's got the buzzer right around the corner. Oh, the buzzer. Nobody's fast with the buzzer. The buzzer days, people are slower than normal days, to be honest with you. Who's next? Gabe is next.

Gabe. Go ahead, Gabe. So it feels like for the past 10 to 12 years, the question around this point of this season has been, has Cal found his lineup? Has Cal found his lineup? Do you think with the Pope era, the new question is, has Pope found his rotation? Because it feels like he has so many guys who can shoot now that we don't have to worry about that part of it. So it feels like he can have a wider range of people that he can rotate in and out situationally,

as opposed to just the five best guys. Yeah, I think what's going to happen with the team. I said this last night on the postgame show, and you tell me if you guys agree or disagree. I appreciate the call. I think there's six guys that are playing every game, no matter what, that are in the rotation all year. I think that's Butler, O.A., Brayette, Robinson, Carr, Williams.

I mean, those six, every game. Then I think the second group, which includes Kerr, Perry, Noah, Chandler, Almanor, Garrison, whom I'm missing? I feel like I always miss one. Well, whatever. That group, two or three of them will be in, depending on the game, and depending on how they're playing,

and those dudes are fighting for playing time all year. Ryan, do you agree with that? Yeah, you know, he didn't make a sub until almost the second TV timeout. It was like a little over 12 minutes where he finally subbed in somebody. So I wondered if it was one question I was going to try to find out when he was at BYU in Utah State did he kind of just go with a short rotation six seven guys or did he try to play a bunch of guys usually? I mean they brought in though.

I mean they brought in 10 dudes who expect to play. And then you throw in Perry and Noah that's 12. So I you know I think a lot of dudes are getting minutes. I mean they're not 12 are not going to play all the time but I think you're going to see 9 and 10 play regularly. I'm going to add Kirkreeza to that top group. He started for three years, nearly every game. That dude's going to play a lot of minutes, backing up Butler, I think, play a little bit beside him too. But if you just go back to any of Pope's teams, pick one, BYU, Utah Valley, whatever, a lot of dudes play like 20 to 30 minutes. You don't have a guy

that's playing 33, 34, 35. He uses his whole roster. And Jackson Robinson was a sixth man last year. And their leading score. So, I mean, like, everybody has a different role. Who will become crown king of the court? Let me tell you what they're doing. Tell me all about it. Every night, a draft king, they take the player with the most points, rebounds, and assist together. Okay.

And if you put a bet on that person and they win, you split a million dollars in bonus bet. My goodness. So the first night, everyone that bet Anthony Davis got $93. Wow. I bet on Carl and lost. I don't know who won last night. But if you bet an obscure player and fewer and fewer

people pick them, you might win bigger and bigger money. So every night and the fewer games, usually a night where you could win the most is the most games, but you pick the right person. I think the Vikings went on the road. It's in an upset. The Rams take them. The Rams are at home. They got a lot of people. Got Matthew Stafford. They got, yeah, flipper Williams. They got all these guys.

They got all these guys, and they're going to be really good. Plus, I'm going to be on the air during the game, so I hope it's at least entertaining. All that try, you're doing the show tonight during the game. Yeah, I'm doing the show during the game tonight. A little 2-2-Atwell? 2-2-at-well, played at Louisville, right? Speaking of Louisville, wide receivers, one of them quit. Do you see that?

In the middle of the season? Well, he didn't quit. He might end up coming back to Louisville, but he was hurt at the beginning of the year. He's played the last four games, and now if he wants to keep his last year of eligibility, he has to sit out the rest of the year, and he has decided to sit out the rest of the year.

He's their best player. He ran a kickback against Miami. He's had really good games, best wide receiver. He now is not playing, which will help. Kentucky when the two teams play at the end of the year. Yeah, I didn't know he was that good of a player that was one of their stars that's going to just step out now for the rest of the season when they still have a chance to win a lot of game to get a good bowl game.

Yeah, I don't know if he plans on staying at Louisville or not. He didn't say, but he does plan on playing another year. So he basically's like, look, I got one more year eligibility. I'm not 100% healthy. I'd like to wait. You don't see that a lot, but I can kind of understand it now that Louisville's not really playing for anything, you know? Yeah, and these guys that aren't going to play professional.

You got a small window. He came from a small school. I understand if he wants to give it another year where he can have a full season. Also, this is some sad news on a lot of happiness. We did mention Mark Stoop's mother passed away yesterday. Mark and Mike, who's brother, who's on the staff, passed away, I think, at 91 years old.

You know, obviously very sad, lived a great life. Think about how proud she has to be to have sons. all of whom have had success in the same field where they followed their father. But that's got to be tough for Mark right in the middle of a game week with this happening. And Mike, that's got to be a hard thing. Yeah, that's your mom. Even if you're expected, that's still a hard emotional thing to have to go through. I think what, four of her boys ended up being major college football coaches.

I mean, think about that. Four of her, and then I think there's a daughter, and I think she's very successful at whatever she does as well. What a football mom. Yeah, really, from Youngstown, Ohio. to have that level of success with all of your sons. That's just a really neat thing. That's a great life for Phil. I was trying to remember.

Vince on this show talked about her. She said something like, take care of Mark down there. I remember just Vince telling stories about her and how close they were, too. Just the timing of this, I feel awful for them with so much they have going on. You know, something like that.

You want to just disappear for a little bit, but he's in the middle of a football season. Yeah. Who's up next? Nate is up next. Nate, go ahead. Hey, guys. So this is first time, a long time.

Who? I met you guys down in Nashville for the SEC tournament last year. And they say never meet your heroes, but I got to meet mine. And I just want to let you guys know that you guys are so many most humble, genuine people I've ever met my life. Well, that's very nice of you. Thank you. You guys do so much. You guys do so much for not only the state, but just for people in general.

Every single day you guys wake up, you make a difference in people's lives. And that's something that tip your hat to. That's very nice of you to say. That means a lot. Thank you very much. Yes, sir. By the way, I'm Drew's beer buddy. I know.

I owe you one. I was about to bring that up. I think I'm still down one on that count. No, I just, I wanted to switch subjects here. I've been trying to get a hold of you guys for a while, but I really want you guys to know that you guys are very special to not just me, but to everyone in the state. I appreciate it.

You got something on the game real quick? I do have a question for you. So with the benching of Brock last game, Do you think we're going to start seeing more Bowley? I don't think he was being binged. I think it was just, it was a long game. There was one series left.

Let's just put him in. No, I don't think you were going to see more bully either way. But if you were going to see more bully, going 0 for 6 and throwing the interception probably didn't help that happen. But I really don't think that was going to happen either way. So then what do you think about Gavin? because with the offensive line being so bad right now, Gavin does give us that option to kind of do, you know, rollouts.

Whereas Brock, he seems like every time he rolls out, he just makes the wrong read every time. Yeah, I would say, I appreciate the call. I do think, I mean, there's a world where you see more from Gavin, but I still think Brock's the main guy. Do you agree with that? Yeah, Brock's still the quarterback, And they put Cutter Bowley in kind of a tough situation,

but at least they tried to get him some reps at some point this season. It was just kind of a tough situation to put him in right there. But I think they're still used Gavin Wimson in those packages, especially in the red zone when they kind of just, because he is what has been one of our best runners all season. I didn't like him going to him so early when they were rotating. I guess there was two weeks ago. But I just, it's crazy that on October 24th with a team we're so excited about,

we're talking about Bowley or Wimson, it just shows how disappointing the opposite is. No, it's been very disappointed. No doubt about that, been very disappointing. Quarterback play hasn't been great this year. I mean, it's been good, but it hasn't been great. Can we talk about that injury report last night because it had Demi and Chip? That's not good for business.

And, you know, we are in a happy frame of mind with UK basketball. but to the point the guy made earlier about, well, could you make the case for the other side, told you'd be hard, I just got to send an article to give you an example. All right.

First of all, you know, Arkansas plays an exhibition game tomorrow against Kansas. They had their pregame press conference this morning. Guess who did it? Kenny Payne. Cal skipped his first ever games pregame press conference and sent an assistant, and they're playing Kansas the projected number one team in the nation. So start with that. Now, this is from Sports Illustrated. I'm not going to read all of it, but I'm going to read more than I would normally read. John Calipery's been saying for a while now, but it's reached a higher level of reality.

Arkansas fans may want to tamp down expectations. The first major warning sign came from a comment by a recruit in practice who came to a practice this week. Abduru Turei said he was impressed by how Cali Perry ran practice, but noticed it was heavenly. heavily limited. Quote, it was great to see the exposure, but they only have five players right now that are active. Five. Word has trickled out that Arkansas may get Trayvon Brazil back, which would make six, but that would only be six players to play against Kansas. This was a major concern for fans when Cal Perry voiced his philosophy of keeping his scholarships down to maximize NIL money and not wasting on others. Cal said, quote, I think I'm only going to have eight or nine

guys. I'll fill out the roster with walk-ons and maybe GAs who still know how to play. Walk-ons would be useful right now, especially one that plays for Arkansas. But Lawson Blake decided to get into the promotion business rather than come back and play for this season. Wow. Lawson Blake got into the promotion business. Now here are the two paragraphs that are the given. Oh, that wasn't the story. That's not the story that Lawson Blake quit to go into the promotion business. That was it. By the way, you got to put this up on the website, KSR, just so you know.

If everyone could get healthy in time for the first game against Lipscomb, that would be good. There's also a game against Baylor early in the season. It's not that big a deal, but there are missed opportunities for team chemistry. However, if this ends up biting Calipari in the backside, as he has to run players into the ground, then what happens in the NCAA tournament run? And Lawson Blake quit to go into the promotion. business. So thank you to whoever sent me that, but this is an unbelievable article. That makes me think when the team's got their first weeks of practices in June, July, whenever that was, when we were seeing clips of Kentucky, they look so advanced. They're already, you know, working on plays, not meeting to learn how to huddle. And then Cal at that time said, we can't practice. They had three people in a boot in one photo. I didn't know it would linger all the way until a week before the season starts. That sounds like a disaster.

How have you not practiced? The seasons are brown the corner. And he says he changed stuff fast. How many times in November did we hear him say something like, we hadn't even talked about defense yet. We haven't even put in all of our sets. We haven't even done this. We haven't even done that.

It sounds like they're getting a lot of that and more now in Arkansas. So there you go. Promotions. Promotions business. Wow. Sometimes you've got to promote things, right? The Kenny Payne doing the press conference thing. Not everyone cares about press conference.

It's my job. But that is so wrong in your first one to see that. He's me or meeting you for the first time. They're probably so excited to be there, and they're going to say, why the hell is this guy up there? Dude, it's low class. Like, we had, you know, well, let's just use the example of this team. I appreciate the call. Think about practice.

I don't know if you heard, was it, was it Oway? No, it was Butler? Who was it? No, it was O'Way said they asked him about playing against other players last night. And he goes, I was just so excited to have someone besides Lamont Butler guard me. Well, what that does to show you is in practice, they're playing against Gregor. guys. I remember Cal said in 2015, he was like our practices are better than our games. If you're Andrew Harrison and Aaron Harrison and you're having to practice against

it's Tyler Ulyss and Devin Booker every day, there ain't anybody you can play against it's better than that. This team is getting a version of that in getting to play rather than playing against GAs who might be in the promotions business. Kirk Creeza and Travis Perry are becoming better defenders because they have to battle Lamont, Butler, and Otega, Allway every day in practice. this. So anyway, unbelievable.

What do you think the line will be for Kentucky Duke? One of my first thoughts when the game ended last night was, if I'm going to bet these championship odds, I better get on it quick. And then I want a Duke line before they play a couple games, too, because I want to get as many points in that one as –

possible when I hammer that money line with it. I'm just, this is just a total guess. I'm going to guess Duke is favored. I'm going to guess Duke is favored by three and a half. Exactly the number I was about to say. Just a complete guess. That's just a complete guess because, I mean, I don't know how you, I'll tell you what. I mean, we always talk about setting college football lines early.

How in the world do you set college basketball lines in the first few weeks of the season? I mean, most of these rosters are completely different. How in the world do you, if you're Vegas, how do you set a Kentucky Duke line? I have no idea. Duke probably will end up, yeah, being a small favorite just because of the players that they've got coming in. Kentucky was such an unknown until basically last night. You really don't know how good this team's going to be yet. I actually really would be fascinated at how Vegas is setting lines in college basketball in the first two or three weeks the year.

I mean, that has just got to be just a crap shoot, right? Yeah, I mean, last year, I did very well betting Reed Shepard props before he blew up because Vegas hadn't really adjusted to what Reed was doing in Lexington. It just was so many. But let's say Kentucky played Louisville in game one. How would you have any idea how to set that line? Both teams completely new, both coaches completely knew. You would just be guessing, wouldn't you?

And have to move a lot for them to try to keep the money on either side. There'd be no way to do that. So do you make the odds so small that it's not going to matter? and to see which way the money line money i don't know i mean i'd actually that's actually something uh i'd like to you know ask somebody and figure out because that that is really really uh i don't know but i would just say let's just guess uh duke uh duke three and a half you know what's scary where you don't know where your meat comes from you've been seeing all the stuff about mcdonalds and all that you know you let that guy in a suit that doesn't have a hair net in

You're getting something. Good luck with that, Arkansas. Sounds exciting. But Kansas is going to Arkansas. They probably thought they were going to have a game. Actually, that's not true. AIS gives them a base setting, but there have been versions of that for years, programs, but it is still a human being that sits there and says, okay, like a perfect example is the Cowboys. They take the spread, and then they add a point or a point and a half because they know so many people bet the Cowboys. So the humans still adjusts for what they think

the human betting factor is. There have been computer programs that set the initial things for 20 years, but they still have a human element because the goal is not to predict what's actually going to happen, but how to get money equally on either side. And there's situational things. The robots can't know injuries, you know, status and teams that they kind of factor into. Yeah.

The robots don't know everything yet. Getting close. I mean, it's going to happen, but it hasn't happened yet. Who's up next? Elijah is next. Elijah. How are you, Eli? Laja.

I'm good. I was 10 years old when we won the 96 championship, and that made me a lifelong die-hard Kentucky fan. And watching that game last night, man, it just felt like, I know it was an exhibition game, but, man, it felt good. It just felt like good basketball, and it made me really excited. Yeah, I got a couple of comments. I didn't, it was pleasantly surprised. surprising at how fast Lamont Butler is. He gets up and down the floor. Yes, he does. He's not like John Walfast, but he's fast. He's fast. I mean, he's that next tier.
