Starting point is 00:03:56 sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office, you call T.J. O'Makeem Pay. We got some folks here from Charlotte here to watch today to help us, drown our sorrows before we get into what for me was a very depressing back-to-back game streak with Kentucky and then my bears losing on a Hail Mary. Did I hear, Ryan, that you drank so much during the post-game show, someone had to drive you home? That is inaccurate. Okay. All right, but you tweeted out that you had to be driven home. Yeah, Corey Price came and drove me home because I did it from here. I left the game early, did it from here. So you didn't have a car. But by the time my brother got here with his car, I rode with him, I thought I don't have time to leave.
Starting point is 00:04:38 So I just did it from here. Okay. All right, because I was worried about you. When I saw that, I thought I was going to listen to Postgame show and see if the end of it was you, like, drowning your sorrows of the entire weekend. I think most of you can't be able to understand if I did do that, for sure. It was a tough go of it Saturday night. We'll talk about it later. But I should not have to, Drew, lose that game Saturday night and then lose all.
Starting point is 00:05:03 on a Hail Mary in the late game on Sunday. I was not happy last night. Can't even imagine that pain. I had another 0-and-3 weekend. I'm to the point. I'm just ready to cancel football. Cowboys Titans, Kentucky, it's every weekend. Your Bears with a historic loss.
Starting point is 00:05:17 Historic loss. Let's just get rid of the sport completely. With the guy like taunting the crowd. Yeah, it was not a good look. And it's not a good look. That dude's got to be really mad at the random fan that was filming that from behind. That's true. The only reason people found out he was taunting is that one guy
Starting point is 00:05:33 the crowd was filming him or otherwise it may have not gotten out. But we'll talk about that more to a minute. I mean, the big story, of course, is Kentucky. A really masterfully terrible performance in the last three quarters of the game. Up 10-0 half at the end of the first quarter. Kind of reminded me, Ryan, of the Missouri game last year. You start out really good. You look like you're just driving down the field.
Starting point is 00:05:57 The Missouri game, that turned on a fake punt. I think the Auburn game kind of turned on. We had them third and long, and then a guy got behind his, the defensive back ends up getting like a 40-yard pass. And then I don't know that we had another good play the rest of the time. I think Dane made a pretty amazing catch on the sideline at one point. But otherwise, it was pretty bad. Defense completely annihilated. Could have been worse.
Starting point is 00:06:22 Auburn should have scored at the end of the first half and messed it up. It was a pretty low point. After the game seemed like the staff. had no answers whatsoever. I saw Vince is actually doing the Mark Stoop show tonight, which is, that's never, you know, I mean, well, I guess that's probably because of funerals today. Brad White's doing the press conference. Brad, funnels today.
Starting point is 00:06:46 That makes sense then. The funeral, that makes sense. And God bless the Stoop's family with the funeral today. But just an awful, awful night. I feel defeated. And I think that's even worse than being mad because I feel like, you know, we got maybe early indications of what this team was all about in that South Carolina game. It's come back the last couple of games and just no fight and questionable play calls
Starting point is 00:07:12 and not executing on offense and can't tackle on defense. I mean, there are so many issues going on with this team. It is hard to put your finger on one thing. What's going on what's wrong? Yeah, I mean, that was an all-systems failure after the first quarter. I mean, Brock didn't play particularly well. the receivers I thought were okay but you know Max was at the game and said and I think you'll talk about this on the football podcast
Starting point is 00:07:37 that's the first one he'd gone to where he set where he could see the whole field and not just TV and he was like dude there were receivers open they just don't throw it or don't have time offensive line was bad one of our offensive linemen uh graded a zero point zero on the zero point zero played the whole game grade a zero point zero we thought mincy was bad when he got like a 0.0. Cocks was the 5. Cocks was the 5. Yeah, Cox got a 5. This guy got a 0. And then on defense, just some miss tackles, no pressure on the quarterback. Drew, I'm not sure could have gone much worse, to be honest. And adding to it, it really felt good for a little bit. You had, Dane had the good catch. And right after Dane's catch, Patterson, who hadn't played much,
Starting point is 00:08:25 breaks off a 25-yard run. Will Cox punches it in. It's 10-0. Three plays later, you get an interception, you're back in scoring territory, and you're thinking, you could blow Auburn out right now. Auburn could quit if you can score one more time, but then you don't capitalize, and Auburn responds with 24 unanswered and you don't score again. I mean, it was like we thought we had something, even the crowd, which wasn't great, there was a lot of Auburn, but the crowd kind of started feeling something when you went up 10-0 and just completely vanished after that. I'll tell you the two or three things that stuck out to me the most about the loss.
Starting point is 00:08:54 Number one, they quit. They did. They quit. And that's really disappointing. I mean, because I would argue it might be the second or third game they've quit this year. Yes. I think they kind of quit against South Carolina. I think they kind of quit against Florida.
Starting point is 00:09:10 And I think they quit in this game. So you've had three games where I think at the end they quit. And that's not been something, even in poor performances, that's not been something Mark Stoop's teams have done over the years is quit. Secondly, I have no idea what we were doing at the quarterback position. I'm not saying Brock played well. I don't think he did. With that said, though, in those first three drives, four drives,
Starting point is 00:09:34 we were moving the ball, and then they would bring in Wim's it, and we would waste to play, and then that would be the end of the series. Every time they brought him in, that's when we had to punt. I don't think that's Wim's fault. It's just they don't ask him to do anything. So then you punish the quarterback who didn't succeed because you kept stopping his drives by bringing in somebody else and then play him. And he, no offense, didn't do.
Starting point is 00:09:57 anything. I have no idea. Why when he ran the ball five times in the first half and we got to combine six yards, did we think we should switch at halftime? It's so obvious when he comes in what they're doing. But why would you switch? The game was 10 to 10 when we switch quarterbacks. Why? Well, you know what? It was designed where he was supposed to come in for the third series. I don't care. I don't care if everyone is designed. I mean, if that wasn't right to put him in on third series, how do we play in the entire second half? And I think just because Brock did not play well the first half through a really bad interception.
Starting point is 00:10:29 But I don't say this to be rude. Gavin didn't play well at all at any point in the game. If you put cutter in, I still don't understand that either, but at least it would be something different. Wimson didn't play well the whole game. They throw Wimson out there, and then they kind of handcuff him. They made him throw some bunch of deep balls. That second series, Wilcox and Patterson didn't even touch the ball.
Starting point is 00:10:49 That was bizarre playoff. It was. To me. I mean, it was bizarre. And then the defense, I mean, I, you know, there comes a point where you do have to say, okay, you can't expect the defense to do everything, but they gave up 500 yards. Could not tackle. I mean, 500 yards, you're not going to beat anybody.
Starting point is 00:11:07 Honestly, they do this chart that says how bad you should have been beaten or whether or not you should have won. Oh, no. Like when Kentucky played Georgia, we were the team that should have won the most stats-wise but didn't win. Yeah. In this one, we were like the fourth worst team. We should have lost by 30 if you look at the stats and we just happen to lose by 14. Yeah, your defense that you've relied on all year, what did the hunter have nearly 300 yards?
Starting point is 00:11:33 You had a career day? 278 yard most ever at Proverfield. Kentucky football doesn't give up 278 rushing yards, not with the defenses they've had lately. That was the big tell. But they do if they've quit. Yeah, yeah, that's what I mean. That's my point. It looks like they've quit because that doesn't happen when they're locked in.
Starting point is 00:11:47 And I think that happened. And now you've got to go to Tennessee. I mean, what a great draw. go play in Knoxville on a primetime game. So, I mean, are we going to, well, all right, so are we going to win one more game? That's what I think. I think our season is all intents of purposes over. They're not going to be bow eligible.
Starting point is 00:12:09 They got one more win on the table. They'll beat Murray State. Everybody's like, oh, they could lose to Murray State. Murray State is horrific, all right, so we can play Mario and we'll beat Murray State. No offense, Mario. No, I mean, like, we can play Mario. He'll be our starting running back. I mean, I'm not going to start.
Starting point is 00:12:24 I just, but we can play him, and we beat, but we're not beating anybody else, unless something changes. Because it's, like you said, he's lost the team. I mean, Mark Stoops has not forgotten how to coach, but he's lost the team. The defense, making tackles takes effort, and man, they just didn't bring it. And that's not the first time that we've talked about this year. You know, it's kind of an ongoing issue that's been happening. What was the post-game show vibe? Defeated.
Starting point is 00:12:51 Like, people weren't necessarily. necessarily mad. They were more defeated and beat down. And like I said, I think that's even worse when you feel that way than when you're mad. Yeah, I mean, Auburn comes in here with four losses. You'd think, come on, guys, just get yourself together for one last SEC home game. Been disappointing season so far, but a bowl can still be a taintable if you win this one. And to just lay an egg like that, that was an embarrassing performance.
Starting point is 00:13:16 And, I mean, I'm someone that still thinks Louisville's beatable, but not if your team's completely quit. Yeah. By the time that game comes around, you're assuming you've added two more losses. I just don't know what version of Kentucky could even show up for that. Stoops has been so good for getting them fired up for that game. But this year feels a little different when they get to that point. So, like, is it over?
Starting point is 00:13:35 I think the season is done. No, no. Season's definitely done. Is the whole thing over? With Stoops? I don't think so. Like I said, the dude didn't forget how to coach. But do you think is the vibe?
Starting point is 00:13:48 Like, not? I agree with you. you he can still coach but like sometimes things in it does feel eerily similar to what we just went through with basketball doesn't it so do you think it's over i can see where some schools may make a change i don't think mitch barnhart will make a change right now i don't just don't miss barnhart's not going to fire no i mean but that still doesn't we'll stoop step down john calperry didn't get fired but he's also not the coach here so like is it over he definitely has some fans that aren't coming back. Like we saw towards the end of the Cal era, they have just, they're completely done with them.
Starting point is 00:14:24 Now, I don't know how big that group is, but those people exist. And as the season goes on, more will add to it. Just looking forward, I'm thinking about, I worry about Stoop's overall legacy, because it has been good here. It has not been good the last three years. Very disappointing. But if he comes back another year, we have Texas with Archmanning, Florida with sophomore DJ Lagway, sophomore Nico, these are coming to Lexington. You're at South Carolina, at all these other schools. you can have a good team next year. It is going to be hard to have a turnaround. So I worry about him having another bad year if he comes back again. And then we're really thinking, you know, is he leaving it any better than it was? Yeah. That's, I mean, I, go ahead,
Starting point is 00:15:03 Shannon. Oh, I didn't say anything. Oh, I thought you did. I mean, if you even need me to say something, I can. I'd love for you to say something. What do you have? Somehow, I feel like the defense has gotten worse as we've gone throughout the season. I don't know what's happened to our defense. And then we continue to be the worst team in the world inside, like the five years. yard line. Like, how can we not score inside the five yard line? It was very fitting that the game sort of ended with another first and go inside the five and we didn't score. I mean, that was a very fitting because it's three games in a row. Three games in a row we've been inside the five yard line and not score.
Starting point is 00:15:36 You're an SEC football team. Stoops wants to pound it, pound it, pound it, and you can't punch it in from the five yard line? Three times. Three times, three different times. Three different times. I said, I think, before the game. that I thought 40% chance he came back, I think that number is even low. I can't see him coming back. Yeah, really? Yeah, I mean, and again, that's not inside knowledge. I just don't, how do you pick yourself up and do this again?
Starting point is 00:16:03 How do you go look at the donors that they're going to need to bring in the players that they're going to need and say, let's run this back? I mean, you're going to lose guys. Like, we're going to lose guys this year. We are. You can see it on the frustration on their face. you can see it with, you know, let's say he did come back. What are you going to do with the O.C. position?
Starting point is 00:16:24 You're going to give the quarterback job to Brock? Like, I think it's just easier to go, you know what? Because, look, I like Mark a lot. I don't like him a little bit. I like him a lot. I think he's been a great coach. He's, like, you can see it. Like, he doesn't know what to do.
Starting point is 00:16:45 And how is that going to change? I don't if I'm in charge and I'm Mitch Barnhart I'm not making a change because both I can't and also what you said about at some point he deserves a chance but if I'm Mark everybody always tries to think about what they do if they're Mitch if you're Mark and your son's graduating high school and you've done this a long time and you've you kind of were tired anyway I don't know why you would do it Do you? No. And, you know, he said before the season he didn't like dealing with the, you know, the NIL and the boosters and all that. So maybe that's not going anywhere.
Starting point is 00:17:26 I know it's not going anywhere. So maybe it's just kind of worn him down. I do think he doesn't, he wouldn't want to step away in leaving it this way. But I put, yes, but like Drew said, there's no certainty it's going to be better. Next year's going to be hard. I mean, like, what do you, like, no, in theory, do I think he wants to leave it this way? In theory, do I think Cal wanted to leave it this way? No. But you know what?
Starting point is 00:17:53 That's not that we don't live in theory. We live in reality. And in reality, I don't know how that's certain to get better. Fans have done a good job responding to and to give them 11 losses in 13 home games. Eventually, people are going to say, I'm going to stop driving from Paduca and spending all this money to watch you lose on your home turf. And let's be really, he has no answers. When he's asked these questions, he has no. No answers.
Starting point is 00:18:19 Yeah. On the post game, he owned it up to it. Didn't not make any excuses. Yeah, but I mean, we've heard that for three straight weeks and they've gotten worse. We three weeks ago looked at Auburn, Vandy, and Florida and said they can win all these games and play a Tennessee game where it's one of the most important games in UK history. Instead, they lost them all. And now no one is excited about Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:18:41 I don't know how you keep doing that. Because we're not going to have three easier games in a row than we had here, probably again in the SEC and we blew it's possible they get blown out by Tennessee not possible it's likely i can't believe the spread is 14 and a half blown out by texas yes and then you're blown out by louisville i don't think they they could lose yep so 859 280 2287 text machine is 772 774 7754 we'll take a break be right back's ksr last night a blown call changed the game this morning the internet lost its mind Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in.
Starting point is 00:19:23 I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise. Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves. Their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context and ask the questions everybody wants answered.
Starting point is 00:19:49 Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slic Life 12 and the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kier Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations. with so many incredible guests.
Starting point is 00:20:17 I'm talking. Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch.
Starting point is 00:20:34 Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross. Because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person.
Starting point is 00:20:51 Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter. what? He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a
Starting point is 00:21:19 level that we've never seen before. And he knows, without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to
Starting point is 00:21:35 really guard guys like Nas Reed. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stopped by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash will get that thing. That man, hell get to fly.
Starting point is 00:21:51 He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball, like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:22:12 Hey, everyone, it's Ryder Strong, and Will Fidel from PodMeets World. And now the Pod Meets Twirled podcast. We're two men who were completely clueless to reality TV, who now have covered Dancing with the Stars, traitors, and we're gearing up for the season finale of Survivor. So yeah, now we're experts. I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners
Starting point is 00:22:31 by our severe lack of survivor knowledge. That is the point of the show. I'm just going to remind you. I have watched some Survivor. I obviously haven't watched enough. Did people not like it? Like what was just because we? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:46 We'll be recapping the big conclusion in the 50th season, from the final attempts at gameplay, to the desperate pleas of finalists to a bunch of ha, who, ha, ooh, ha, ooh, ha, ooh. Again, we are experts. So make sure to tune into Pod Meets Twirled for all our Survivor 50 takes. Listen to PodMeets Twirled on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:23:08 What's up, guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff, like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me, he goes, Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What?
Starting point is 00:23:27 Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Cliverts show on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:23:47 Welcome back, Tughey Sports Radio. 859-28027. One person writes, Matt, if you were Mark Stoops or Mitch Barnhart, you're trying to decide why this happened, what do you think the biggest reason is? I don't know. I think the biggest, I mean,
Starting point is 00:24:11 recruiting misses in terms of depth is part of it. Their star recruiting has actually done pretty well, but the depth is just terrible. The offensive line play, was ultimately the biggest thing. I mean, I, you know, I hate to mention, a guy got really mad at me online. I assume he's from Richmond.
Starting point is 00:24:30 He got really mad and has not stopped about me mentioning that Malachi Wood got a 0.0. But what are you supposed to do, man? Like, I mean, we all saw it. I watched it during the game. He never, he couldn't block anybody. If you wonder why Mincy and Cox are playing, there's the answer.
Starting point is 00:24:48 The backup was worse. I don't know what you're supposed to. say like like we just we got guys that aren't good and Ryan that's just a problem yeah there's there's no depth there at all and that was one thing that shlarman kind of when he built the big blue wall man they were not just good starters they had quality good depth and they rotated a lot of guys when Wolfer took over the job two years ago he stopped doing that you know he stopped rotating guys and I think we're seeing but I don't know that he could rotate him because the second string is not good that's why I hated the quarterback change Brock didn't look good
Starting point is 00:25:21 but he is not the problem with that offense. He's part of it, but it all starts with the line, and they just can't create any room for running backs. They can't get Brock anytime. As you said, as Max noticed, there's open receivers. But if you can't block anybody, your offense stands no chance. I'm not taking up for Rock. I don't think he played particularly well.
Starting point is 00:25:39 But he also had some big completions, made some big plays. And the problem in all those drives, we would waste it down. We would put Gavin Wimson in. We'd run for one yard. It would go from second and nine to third and nine, and then we were putting behind the chain. And then taking him out with the game tied, if it was 2410 and you took him out, I understand.
Starting point is 00:26:00 But it was 17. It was actually 1010. And Auburn scored and made it 1710 before Brock got the ball again. I just don't understand that, Ryan. I don't. I don't understand it either. And like I said, they kind of handcuffed him with the play calls. There was no sense of urgency.
Starting point is 00:26:13 They would run the play clock down to the final second before he snapped the ball. Those last couple series he came in the third quarter. When we were driving, to cut it to one score. We were like, I'm like, are we trying to win? We were rice. It was like we were milking the clock.
Starting point is 00:26:28 It did. It was so weird. You know, this may shock you have never played quarterback, but that has to mess with Brock's head when he's supposed to be your two-year-guide. He's a first-year start. He's trying to figure things out. But if you've got to run to the sidelines
Starting point is 00:26:42 so the other guy can come in over and we know that's not an answer, I just wonder what that does for his confidence, too. Yeah, I have no idea. One person writes, Matt, I don't think Stoops would leave. He's not going to leave $9 million a year on the table. Maybe I think that's part of it. But I would also say Mark's doing well. You know, Mark's got a lot of money.
Starting point is 00:27:03 Mark did well with his bourbon stuff. Mark's made a lot of money at this. The other reality is if he wants to coach somewhere, he'll get a job. I mean, he would get a head coaching job. So I don't think it's, you know, I mean, again, John Caliperi. think about it like this. Cal Perry basically went to Arkansas for free. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:24 I mean, he did. He basically went to Arkansas for free. He decided to coach Arkansas for free because he was going to get the same amount of money that he was going to get here. Mark might not get $9 million somewhere else, but he'd probably get $6 or $7. And so I think if he wants to coach more,
Starting point is 00:27:41 I think I could see him saying I'll sit out a year, be with my family or, you know, with my kids for a year and then go and coach somewhere else. I can see that, you know, watch your kid play college ball for a couple years, get the itch back, go back and coach maybe somewhere else. I still think he's a really good coach. Just he's kind of, has lost this team. You could be a really good boyfriend, but that relationship is open.
Starting point is 00:28:07 And I'm not saying we're there yet, but Drew, I think we're getting there, unfortunately. I mean, do you think all these people who've watched us lose 11 of the last 13 homes? home games are going to keep doing. Oh, that's my point. And as we hear from callers and fans, football is a different crowd, and they're spending a lot of money that means a lot to them. I mean, some people are stretched thin to have these season tickets and make these drives every weekend.
Starting point is 00:28:29 And if you just keep showing up to lose on your home field, they're not going to keep showing up. And even before we even saw this season fall apart, I mean, I thought it, but did anyone think Stoops had a lot left in the tank anyway? I mean, he tried to leave a year ago. I just thought this was always only had a year or two left to begin with. This just might speed it up. football a is a different crowd i think that's exactly right b it's three times as many people
Starting point is 00:28:55 you have to put in there than basketball i don't think we often think about that you only need to get 20 000 season ticket holders you need 60 you know that's different that's three times as many people that you have to please in order to get the crowd you want to get and these people are sacrificing entire weekends for football you can pop into a basketball game and head home Football is a whole event. And the other thing is, you can sell your basketball tickets for the most part. Harder always to get rid of the football tickets, especially for some games. I was really kind of worried about our crowd when we talked about on the pregame.
Starting point is 00:29:27 There was no traffic to get here. We had parking spots open in the parking lot. There was no traffic to get to the stadium. I go in there, and it's not full by any means. But by kickoff, it was a very late arriving crowd. By kickoff, it filled up, and they went like we said, we went up 10 to nothing. They were in it. Man, there was some energy and some buzz in there.
Starting point is 00:29:45 Yeah, I mean, we had our normal crowd at the bar, but I was like, there's a lot of Auburn people here. And I just went, and there was a lot of Auburn people to gain. Yes, there was. I mean, I think the Keenland weekend made Auburn people make the trip because they don't get to do that all the time. Where I scan into the parking garage, the guy scans me in, he said, I can't remember scanning this many away parking things. Yeah. Well, how many people do you think are going to make the trip to Knoxville next week? Not many.
Starting point is 00:30:12 Now it's a lot for that punishment. Parents and girlfriends. 745. They're doing the blackout. That's going to be a ridiculous environment. All right. So we're not going to spend all day being sad. I want to talk about a couple funny stories from Saturday night. Okay.
Starting point is 00:30:25 And we'll talk a little bit of basketball. We'll also take your calls about this football game. 859-280-2287. It's KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Starting point is 00:30:45 Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. Tech Techie Sports Radio here at the KS Bar and Grill. There's my guy Herm Edwards on TV. He's my favorite person on ESPN. He's on with me every Sunday. He makes me laugh as much as anybody. He's always got good energy.
Starting point is 00:31:02 He's hilarious because you don't know what he's going to say. He still thinks he could cover like Justin Jefferson today. He's like, you put me on Jamar Chase. He ain't scoring, except I don't think he's kidding. I think he means it. It's 70 years old. I think he thinks he can still cover him, Drew. Is that your boy that spins the thing on it?
Starting point is 00:31:19 No, that's not him. Never mind. I love, Herm's always good for quotes, even going back to when he was a coach. He's got all the classic lines. He's great. He calls me and Meyer and the two geniuses. Well, he knows you know your football. No, he's being sarcastic.
Starting point is 00:31:32 He does not believe we're geniuses at all. 859-2802287. One thing football that was a little less serious. I didn't know, Shannon, that there's a singer named Noah Kayan, Khan. Khan. Yeah. I didn't know that. He, somebody played a song for me of his.
Starting point is 00:31:50 I had heard the song. Okay. So what's his big song? Stick season. What'd you say? Stick season. Oh, I thought you said something else. You thought you said something else too, didn't you?
Starting point is 00:32:01 It sounded like, yeah. It sounded like, I was like, I don't think it's that season, at least in my house. But the stick season, I've heard that song. So I guess he was at LaGuardia Airport and someone stole his wallet. which you got to be careful. You got to be careful when you go out with your wallet. People will take it. And I guess when they took his wallet, obviously they took his credit cards.
Starting point is 00:32:23 Well, he checked his credit cards, and then that night, someone had bought 15 hot dogs at the UK football game. So, first of all, interesting way. You get a famous person's credit card. You're like, what am I going to do? Let's go get 15 hot dogs. By 15 hot dogs. 15 hot dogs.
Starting point is 00:32:41 I'm not going to go get like a, you know, a new television or a car. Not even team merch. Not even team merch. Fifteen hot dogs at the UK game. A lot of hot dogs. Okay? That's a lot. Maybe he was eating them all.
Starting point is 00:32:55 He, Noah Kahn, posts about it. And he said, and I thought it was a really great line. Hey, we have to work together on our spending habits or something, which I thought was a really funny line by him. What do you think about it? And I think it's hilarious. He gets his, I mean, I'm sorry, he got his wallet stolen, but then they go and, you know, use it to buy 15 hot dogs. Of all things, for somebody to get it and end up at the UK football game and buy 15,
Starting point is 00:33:21 what I heard, jumbo hot dogs? What are we doing with 15 jumbo hot dogs? We hand them out to like the section? How are you transporting 15 hot dogs? That's my question. Is he with 15 people? Did he just have five buddies and they each were like, let's get three jumbo hot dogs? Did he buy 15 himself?
Starting point is 00:33:39 I don't know, but I want to find out. I have two assumptions. I don't think he knew Noah Connwood. was a celebrity because I think he would have been a little more careful knowing that he might get called out for that. Yeah. And I assume if he's stolen the credit card, I have like this image of him in line, just buying for everybody. I'll get the whole line. Everybody behind me. Everybody won't my money. It's not my money. It's stick season. Not knowing he's got a Grammy nominated artist's credit card in his hand. Yeah. So if you, so here's by this reason I bring this up.
Starting point is 00:34:06 I'm not trying to catch a thief, okay? But somebody at Commonwealth Stadium saw someone buy 15 hot dog. Oh, yeah. Like, if you see somebody buy 15 hot cogs, you're thinking to yourself, what's up with that guy? How many times a year to someone buy 15 hot dogs? Exactly. How many times do you think somebody walked up to a counter at Kroberfield and said, give me 15 hot dogs?
Starting point is 00:34:30 I think it's one of one. So someone listening to this show knows the culprit. Yep. And my guess is, if you contact Noah Kahn, you'll get to go to the song here, uh, here, stick season in person. all you got to do is if you saw someone buy 15 hot dogs Shannon you can catch a criminal right now how about the person who sold him the 15 hours somebody was the person working at a good part if you worked at crogherfield i'm sure you didn't sell 15 hot dogs to multiple people
Starting point is 00:34:58 if you sold 15 hot dogs to somebody you know they're a thief and you know i i want to think he carried all of them like he in one big gulp and went out to the stand and just were handing them to the people in his row here you go about everybody you know hot dogs you think he was being like Robin Hood. Steak up from the singers and giving to the everybody else. I think he was moving them from the concession stand to his section, probably in his pocket. So you may have eaten somebody's pocket dog. Oh, we get a pocket dog.
Starting point is 00:35:23 A pocket dog, which is gross. That is gross. Well, I had to get there somehow. This could be half of no his fault. He just likes to play the victim. That's the line of the song. Okay, yeah. Since I don't know who he is, I didn't know his lines in the song.
Starting point is 00:35:38 But what a random thing to pop up on Sunday, though, when that went around. Yeah. Yeah. He won't even in Kentucky. Someone had to fly here with his card. Who's up next? Dave. Dave.
Starting point is 00:35:49 How are you, Dave? Good, good, good, dad. Thank y'all for taking my call. Listen, if y'all could just hear yourself talk. I mean, you're making comments like, you know, he's a good coach. He hasn't forgot how to coach, but still yet you're listed a laundry list of bizarre things that you don't understand, like the quarterback change, or like us running the clock out down in the fourth quarter or like the last play before the Georgia game.
Starting point is 00:36:15 Truth of the matter is, these things have been an issue for a long time. Well, I don't think those things are mutually exclusive, though. Because look, I mean, let's go back to last year in basketball. You would acknowledge John Calapier. He's a good coach, right? Not a good exas of those coaches. Okay, but he's a good coach. He won a national championship.
Starting point is 00:36:32 He went to four out of five Final Fours. He was a good coach. Unless you just think he's the luckiest man on earth, he's a good coach. That didn't mean there were not a mirror. of issues that made it seem like it was time for a parting. I don't think those two things are mutually exclusive to say he's a good coach, but also here are a ton of problems right now. I just look at back, I can think of a whole list of things that have been discussed
Starting point is 00:37:01 where the kind of the consensus was that possibly he cost us the game. I can't think of a single woman. They said, wow, he out-coached whoever, whoever. I can. What about Old Miss? Real quick. What about Old Miss this year? He out coached Lane Kimpin this year.
Starting point is 00:37:17 He did. He did. Listen, everybody has it. Okay, listen, everybody has it back. And last thing, I'm going to shut up and get out of here. Also, you combine that with the off-the-field things. The Pony Up comment. You know, he threw shade at Beamer about the shade that medium-day three years ago.
Starting point is 00:37:34 South Carolina's kicked our ass ever since. The dust-up with cow. I just think there's a lot of things of things. I appreciate the call. I mean, fair complaints. You're right, right. I feel like we're repeating the conversations we had last March. I don't think in order to say this program has slipped and he is making mistakes,
Starting point is 00:37:57 you then have to say, well, he's not a good coach at all. You don't have to live in the extremes. There is nothing on this planet that drives me more crazy than the way we do this with every subject now that everything has to be an extreme. You are either amazing and can do no wrong or you are the worst person on earth and there is nothing in the middle. And it drives me crazy. I feel the same way about this. Mark, like things are not good right now with the program. But that doesn't mean Mark Stoops has not done an unbelievable job at transforming this program to where we even have this conversation. Yes. You know, that was a, it was a fair phone call. And like he said, you know, there is a lot to
Starting point is 00:38:40 unpack there. But see, I'm signing more with you. What he's done here, we still, I think, should celebrate the man, even though it's not good right now. I'm not ready to guy, I'm not, I'm not the guy ready to open up the door and tell him to leave. No, of course not. I mean, you know, there's, I can't think of a politician I've liked less than Donald Trump. But there are some things when Trump was president that happened that were positive to me. I don't care what you think about Joe Biden, you think he's the worst person on earth? I bet he had a policy that if I asked you, you agreed with, you'd say yes.
Starting point is 00:39:16 Everybody is not great, and everybody is not awful. I didn't like the caller just dismissing Ole Miss. The list of problems is much longer than the list of things that have gone well. I am as disappointed Stoops as anyone, but you can't just act like Ole Miss didn't happen. Lane Kiffin reached out to
Starting point is 00:39:32 Ole Miss. Lane Kiffin reached out to Stoops after that game, kind of like Wow, Mark, wow, to compliment him. I mean, the opposing coach did that, and we're to sit here and act like that didn't happen. Now, that's just one good thing that happened this year and a lot of bad, but you can't just act like it didn't happen. I know people that I think are not people I want to be around, but there was a moment where maybe they did something really kind, and you can't act like it didn't happen. Yeah. You know, who's up next?
Starting point is 00:40:01 Glenn. Glenn. What's up, Glenn? Hey, a couple quick things. Number one, it's not just who you're losing to, but you're getting completely dominated in every aspect of the game. They did. You're playing $9 million a year for the privilege of that. I think at some point there needs to be a conversation about Mitch Barnhart. This is very similar to the John Caliparre situation.
Starting point is 00:40:27 Two coaches who brought in a, you know, much better talent than we traditionally had. Okay, totally agree. But let's talk about the Mitch Barnhart part of it. Hang on just a second. Let's talk about the Mitch Barthart part because I think what you're saying is fair. I think the criticism and the comparison to Cal contract is fair. But let's go back because I want you to not just say that in the abstract. I want you to put yourself in the seat.
Starting point is 00:40:54 All right, let's go back three years ago to when they gave Mark Stoops that extension. At the time, there were schools inquiring about him. He, at that point, we were coming off a 10-win season where we went and won the citrus bowl. All right. Ten wins. Will Levis is coming back for another year. This dude who's projected to be a first-round pick.
Starting point is 00:41:18 His agent comes and says, you give us this or we may go somewhere else? You're going to say go, coming off a 10-win season, and what are your fans going to say if you let him go to another school? I thought what was being asked for was not commensurate with what we had gotten out. Okay, but I'm asking you a question. Yes, he is. You're going to let him walk away. after a 10-win season, knowing the playoffs coming,
Starting point is 00:41:47 Levis is coming back, if you bring him back, you're going to tell him to walk? Well, so here's the other thing. You're not answering the question. Are you going to tell him to walk or not? Because that's the question Mitch had to answer. I wouldn't have agreed with writing that check. So you would have let him walk?
Starting point is 00:42:06 So you would have let him walk? For that amount of money, I'd have let him walk. Okay, so here's what I would have. would say when that happens, when that happens and you let him walk and he goes to another school, 75% of our fan base says we don't care about football. We just let the best coach that we've had since Bear Bryant leave to go to another school. We don't care about football. That's exactly, sir, what would happen.
Starting point is 00:42:36 Now, you may be okay with that. You may make that decision. but you cannot judge that contract today. You have to judge it when it was signed, and I think 90% of our fan base or more signs it that day. Well, my opinion at the time was I was good with, you know, if he stayed, he stayed if he went, he went, but he wasn't worth what he was asking for.
Starting point is 00:42:59 All right, I appreciate the call. I think if we did that, let's just, I mean, just wait. It'll happen again one day. Like, we're going to have a coach on one of our sports that's successful. and they're going to go ask for a raise, and they're probably going to ask for more than their worth, like Cal did, and like Stoops did. And let's see what happens when the AD says it's Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:43:19 You go ahead and leave. And people have wanting Kentucky to invest in football for years. When you have your best coach needing a little money, that's investing in football. Now it didn't turn out well, but in the moment you've got to do it. Mitch Barnhart could not let him walk in that moment. Could not. We would at that point have had two of the last four years, 10 wins,
Starting point is 00:43:37 when we hadn't had 10 wins in a non-cheating season since the 50s. That's why you just want you to think what that's like if he leaves and goes to Texas Tech or something like that. Let me ask you this, because this has come up, do you think the fact about that he really wanted to go to the A&M and he turned it down last year? That is like a pecking his heart. I think that's a fair question. Clayton and Kroom was founded on a simple idea. Leather goods should last a lifetime.
Starting point is 00:44:07 Do you agree with that? Drew? Absolutely. So everything from bags, belts, wallets, and more. They do it right here in Kentucky at Clayton and Kroom.com. C-R-U-M-E.com. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
Starting point is 00:47:01 And when IT's friends stop by like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash will get that thing. That man, hell get to fly. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball, like, after you go through a training camp with that, I said, you figure it out real quick.

We'll be recapping the big conclusion of the 50th season, from the final attempts at gameplay, to the desperate pleas of finalists to a bunch of ha-hoo. Ha-ha-hoo, ha-hoo, ha-hoo.
Starting point is 00:52:49 Again, we are experts. So make sure to tune into Pod Meets Twirled for all our Survivor 50 takes. Listen to PodMeets Twirled on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, guys? This is Clivert Taylor the Fourth. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me.
Starting point is 00:53:15 He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue of 42. Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:53:43 So this is Noah. who bought someone 15 hot dogs in Lexington. He was the victim of 15 hot dogs. 15 hot dogs. Somebody would ask Anthony Weirman said, what if he went and bought the hot dogs and then sold them out in the crowd? He was making a hot dog profit.
Starting point is 00:54:02 That's prison. Not only do you steal the hot dogs, you actually then also make money on the steel. We were talking on the pre-show. Is that a felony if you do that? Like if you take somebody's card and I thought it was. I mean, it's, well, the felony, it might be the amount of money. I'm not exactly sure how credit card thefts, but you can't just steal people's credit card. Right. So I could, I guess it depends on how much you go to jail.
Starting point is 00:54:28 Imagine you go to jail over 15 hot dogs. Yeah, that's true, though. If you're going to steal somebody's credit card, you can't just go to jail for hot dogs. I feel like they got to at least go for something else. Not just any hot dogs, Trouberfield hot dogs. I mean, that's my dinner a lot of Saturdays. I'm not spending a stealing money. I had a Crogerfield hot dog at halftime Saturday night. Just of all things. You know, they end up at Crogerfield and to buy jumbo hot dogs. It's just.
Starting point is 00:54:52 All right, make your point about A&M. Do you think that his flirtation with A&M last year, where some people think he actually accepted the job and then turned it down, negatively impacted the UK football program, like the culture. Like, did people feel hurt? Do you think that that's a lingering effect of him wanting to leave last year? No, not with the players and not with the people in the program. It might have been with some fans.
Starting point is 00:55:25 So I think fans are a little, some fans are a little less forgiving of that. I think in a world where coaches leave all the time, players can leave now. I don't think, Drew, that that had a major impact with the culture of the team. That's just me saying that, though, maybe there might be a player that would disagree, but I kind of don't think so. Doesn't feel that way. I mean, I don't know what everyone's thinking of that locker room, but a lot of the players were disappointed in. I kind of knew this year. A lot of the linemen were new.
Starting point is 00:55:53 I mean, that's been the biggest weakness. I doubt Brock was offended. Stoops tried to leave. So I doubt there might be a few that had been here a few years that didn't like that he stepped out, but I don't think overall it had that big impact. And most of the players are not hyper online. Remember that that whole thing went down in like six hours. Like his name got floated for the job, and then he announced he was staying from like 6 p.m. to midnight. That was late, right?
Starting point is 00:56:19 So that Saturday night, unless you were online, a lot of those players were out celebrating the Louisville game. And maybe they got a text that Stoops leaving, and then they're like, what? Is he leaving? And they're like, oh, he's staying, okay. And then they go right back to party. You know, so I don't know that, I just don't know, Drew, that it had much of an impact. Yeah, I mean, he went out and built the roster after that, so he committed it. convince the guys, a lot of guys to stay or come here.
Starting point is 00:56:43 Also, the players, they filled phone calls too when the season ends. They talk to other schools, so I'm sure they just, they get it. Yeah. Today, by the way, is the sports equinox. It's the only day of the year where all four major professional sports play on the same day. This is the only day. You got the World Series. You got an NFL game.
Starting point is 00:57:04 You got NBA and NHL. All four games play. It only happens one or two times a year. This year, it will only happen today. So tonight, you can stay at home and flip around and see one of everything. Yeah, the World Series is game three in New York. So that's where I'm my- Steelers Giants.
Starting point is 00:57:23 Steelers Giants. Sounds like a good day to parlor. Yes. Hurricanes play tonight. I know a lot of people are excited about that. And NBA. Got some NBA. Yeah, hurricanes are at Vancouver in case you were wondering.
Starting point is 00:57:34 I was wondering. I really didn't be going to set my VCR. So I will fall asleep to that tonight. hurricanes at the Canucks. Who's next, Shannon? Jerry. Jerry. Go ahead, Jerry. Hey, Matt. First off on Wimpset, students just had a fascination with him since he
Starting point is 00:57:50 was in high school. I didn't like him coming here, and this is why he's just finding some reason to play him. And as far as the season goes, after that South Carolina game, I had this vibe like I did with Bill Curry's
Starting point is 00:58:06 94 season. They had the bowl, they have the season before they go the bowl game. Everybody's sky high. They come out. They beat Louisville in the first game. Everybody's a good year. And it just collapses into that one in ten disaster. And Bill Curry never recovered. And I'm feeling that this, it's, the only thing it's missing this year is the 73 to seven just beat down. I'm afraid that's coming Saturday. And if that happens, if that happens, if that happens, I just, I don't see, I don't see him recovering. I just don't. Well, there's two of those potential moments. I appreciate
Starting point is 00:58:40 to call. I think you're right. I think an absolute smacking at Tennessee or Texas could be one of those moments or 15,000 people at the Murray State game. I worry about the Murray State game. I mean, that's a noon kickoff
Starting point is 00:58:54 after a bye week. I worry about that. What I do? I don't know, man. Right after we've played bad, like we're into basketball, I think the women's team debuts that day maybe. Yeah, I don't like it. We'll take a break. Come back. Hour number two.
