Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Starting point is 00:03:57 Welcome back hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-2807. We're going to talk a little football this hour. Talk about the future of the program going into the Tennessee game. Got some comments here. First of all, one person writes, Matt, I'm in Ashland and may or may not be part of the Ashland group you're talking about. It does have its wild moments, but it's also a gathering place to watch games.
Starting point is 00:04:25 Okay, well. What kind of games they watch it? I think he meant sporting events. I don't think he. Still more, even more people with cities. You know, we talked about this back in the Norton Commons upside down, pineapple days. A lot of, a lot more going on in this state than I realized. When I was growing up, people like, oh, Kentucky's boring.
Starting point is 00:04:49 I don't know. I think there's a lot more happening. It just depends on who you know. Somebody told me Hopkins County's got, I didn't think we were even close to having any societies even Hopkins County's got one yeah I just think you know just just if you just knew where Ryan was you'd have a you'd have a good side do you think any of these societies they'll let us come or are we out just for having brought this up I think if you're an invited guest I know but I get that I understood that part but do you think you would
Starting point is 00:05:15 could get us invited to one of them to one of them yeah I want to know about the other one why can we get invited the other one it's kind of more exclusive oh well So I'm not good enough for the mower exclusive one? Not yet. What does he have to do to earn his badge? To get more in. I think you got to know the right people. Why don't you introduce me?
Starting point is 00:05:41 I know you. Well, I'm not one of the right people. I know a person. Interesting. Okay. So you're saying I don't know. So wait a minute. You're saying this place in Lexington has people that I don't know?
Starting point is 00:05:52 Like, I don't know anyone there. I'm sure they know you and they know the show, but you got to know them. know them. Sounds like you're getting to know. Sounds like there's a level that I don't want to know them. Maybe there's a level of knowing them that I'm not interested in knowing them. How well are you getting to know these people in these basements, Ryan? Well, sounds like the Ashman party is the party.
Starting point is 00:06:10 That's when they do that kind of stuff. I don't know. Sounds like that one maybe as well. All right. By the way, for the one quick note before we go to football. Tonight, I believe for the first time ever. Am I right? Is this the first time ever you've done this?
Starting point is 00:06:24 What are you talking about? Oh, yes, yes, yes. For the first time ever, Drew is hosting a post-game show. Yeah. He's never done that. And I wanted to give Drew a chance here with this pre-game show, kind of get him to be able to get some shots up. So tonight he'll do his rapid reaction, and he's going to do the post-game show.
Starting point is 00:06:44 So call in, support my man, Drew. Are you excited? This is not only your first post-game show. This is probably the first show you've kind of hosted on your own that I think can think of. I did a lot this summer. Media Day had to do without a... Ryan this summer. But first post game show for sure.
Starting point is 00:07:01 You know, I don't get to hear a lot of the post game shows because I'm at the stuff. So I'm interested. Like, I'm not going to know a lot of the familiar callers. So I hope a lot of people that usually call in, still call in for me, get to know them a little more because you do get different calls. Yeah, so you get in the morning. First segment, you just do like a little monologue on what you thought about the game. And then I say just open up the floodgates and have that.
Starting point is 00:07:19 I hope a lot of people will call in. Hopefully we have a fun win to talk about. But yeah, I'm going to do my. I still want people to meet me for the reaction outside. Rup Arena, then I'm just going to walk straight down and hop on the radio. So thank you to Drew for doing that. He's going to do the post game tonight. Secondly, you guys, he did my call, and I want to just take a second and thank you.
Starting point is 00:07:39 I asked you to subscribe to Sunday mornings with Matt Myron. As of this moment, we are the number four podcasts in sports podcast in America. That's pretty cool. The only three ahead of us, Bill Simmons, pardon my take, and Lebitard. and for just that's a huge like first of all I appreciate it that's a big deal to me but but like it made waves last night at ESPN the executives texted us and we're like what is this this is crazy and I didn't I was like I ain't going to say I told you so but I told you so um but it wouldn't happen unless this audience did it so uh Ryan I just wanted to thank everybody for
Starting point is 00:08:20 that now you got actually I'd like for you to listen to the show I appreciate you subscribing but I would actually like you to listen but thank you power ksr like I say we're one big happy family here big blue nation and we're always happy to help other people but number four that's awesome that's awesome because the other three are like massive massive stuff so 859280 2287 football remember at about this point in the season in basketball I so I asked you what percentage of the fan base did you think would want caliperie back at the end of the season by the end for the next year. By the end of the season, I think that number was extremely low.
Starting point is 00:08:58 But in like January or February, it was still kind of divided. I'll ask you that. As of right now, Ryan, what do you think are the percentage of fans that would say, not necessarily by firing, but there needs to be a change next year or not? What percentage do you think? I'd say it's probably 20, 25 percent keeping. You think it's that negative. It seems that way. I think the fan base is... I think that's a little...
Starting point is 00:09:29 To me, it's a little hot. I was actually going to say 60, 40 keep. You're saying 25, 75 keep. The feeling of the fan base, yeah, I think they're lost. So you think the majority of the fans would like to see a change. See, I don't get that vibe, but you do. I'm hearing just a lot of... You're at the games.
Starting point is 00:09:53 And it's not just, you know, this year's been bad, but people keep bringing up the last three years, how we've seen this kind of becoming a problem each season and just the lack of, everybody used the word culture, the lack of, like, the culture of the program is not what it used to be. There's not any fight and guys aren't getting any effort. Then you hear the stuff going on behind the scenes. They're like, oh, man, so maybe 20, 25. Are there any of the behind-the-scenes things you feel like you can talk about or no? Yeah, I think we talk about some of it because it's,
Starting point is 00:10:23 So you would know more than me. So what do you? I think, you know, the effort of some of the guys in practice, the effort of some of the guys in the weight room, the effort of some of the guys in the film study room, I think they've all got very lax in those areas, and the coaching staff has not stepped up and done anything about it. That's the kind of the feeling of a lot of people.
Starting point is 00:10:46 And you think that's a valid feeling? I think it's valid. Okay. What about you, Drew? What would the numbers you think be? If we're not saying firing, just a change, however it happens. I got it about 50-50. I mean, I call it my wellness walk.
Starting point is 00:11:00 At halftime, I leave the press box and do a full lap around Krogerfield just to get outside and mingle. There's a lot of people stopping me saying it's over this past weekend. When we're doing our football rapid reactions, we hear a lot of people yelling at us. Now, I know that's emotional people at the game that are in the moment. But I think the way it's gone, and plus I'll throw in with there being a, a candidate everyone really likes this year. I think that might even encourages more people with some raw. I'm not saying it's going to be him,
Starting point is 00:11:27 but a lot of people think that the timing on that is perfect. So I'd say I got about 50-50. I might even lean 60-40 the other way is 60 wanting it over. Yeah, I mean, that's interesting because, you know, with the Cal stuff, we all kind of were in the same ballpark of what we thought the fans were. you guys are much more thinking it's it's negative than I would have. But I'm not saying you're wrong.
Starting point is 00:11:55 And part of it's being there getting yelled at, you know, in the moment when they've just given up 24 points. People are angry. People tend to be more negative. Very true. It has not been like that, I would say, on the post game show. But that doesn't mean the post game show is necessarily entirely representative either. So either way, what's tough is it's hard to know what's going to change in these next week. Like, again, let's use a cow example.
Starting point is 00:12:17 Had they made a run in the tournament, Cal's probably still the coach here, right? Very true. I mean, ultimately, he still had a way to sort of dig himself out of the hole. It's like with this schedule, Ryan, it's hard to know how they can dig themselves out of the hole. I mean, how are you going to beat Tennessee or Texas on the road? It's hard to see that happen. I totally agree with you, yeah. I don't want to say this.
Starting point is 00:12:36 I thought, you know, Vince did the coaching show last night because Coach Stoops was at his mom's funeral. And I thought Vince did an awesome job relaying, you know, he said many times. Mark loves Kentucky. Mark loves this program. I think he was trying to emphasize to the fan base, hey man, your coach is not giving up on you. Well, I believe that, but... Okay.
Starting point is 00:13:00 No, I mean, like, again, I believe he does. I believe he cares about this place. I don't believe we have a sense yet that I think we had at the end of Cal where he was kind of done with us. I don't believe that's true. Soaps. With that said, I feel a little bit of... like Chris Rock with the, well, so he's supposed to love us.
Starting point is 00:13:21 You know what I mean? Like ultimately that you've got to, that's not enough, Ryan. Does that make sense? Yeah, it does. I don't know. It just made me feel a little better knowing that the coaches are, got as much fight as I want them to have. You know, they're still, they're not happy either.
Starting point is 00:13:37 I need to hear that. With the cow comparisons, I get a lot of them. There's a lot of similarities. But just with the sports, football doesn't give you. an ending like the tournament where you can lose to a 15 seed. That's true. I lost to Vandy several times, lost on senior night. People didn't want him gone because he was losing to Vandy.
Starting point is 00:13:55 He has St. Peters in Oakland that you just cannot look past. And football will never put stoops in that situation where he can have a loss that bad. When Cowell lost to Oakland. A blowout to Louisville in the last game this year would be one of those. But like Oakland, it was just everyone knew at that moment. No, I agree with you. Because just the difference in the sports. It makes it a little different to get to that exact.
Starting point is 00:14:15 point. Yeah, and that's why sometimes you need a definitive ending. So Oakland was a definitive ending. Oakland was a, okay, this ends. I hate to keep making analogies to the election, but I have this one desire for the election. Whoever wins, I hope it's definitive. You know what I mean? I hope like it's defendant, like you, like the best thing for this country is whoever wins, like it's clear and it's definitive. I feel the same way about this with Stoops. If he finishes four and eight, in some ways it's definitive. If we finish five and seven and beat Louisville in the last game, people are kind of going to be able to argue whatever they want.
Starting point is 00:14:55 You know what I mean? So there is a part that would almost wish there could be a definitive thing. Let's get to the second point. Quarterbacks, they're now saying that's an open job. I have to say, I'm shocked by that. Me too. I don't, I mean, I'm not saying Brock's been great. but what has Gavin Wimsett done to give that job to him?
Starting point is 00:15:22 And there's nothing against that kid. We were at that kid's high school during COVID. He seems like a great guy and might be a good. But he started at Rutgers for two years. They didn't really have any success. Like, why would you give him that job? I know they really like the way he fits into what Bush-Handon tries to do. And but when do I get to see that happen on the field?
Starting point is 00:15:48 I know. Yeah, I think you know. I mean, theoretically, okay, but when do I get? Let me ask you this. Mark said something after one of these games that he then kind of took back on. Do you get a sense that there's a view of we went and got Brock for Liam and he's not the right quarterback for Bush? Well, Vince, I think it was Vince. There was several interviews yesterday.
Starting point is 00:16:13 One of the coaches kind of alluded to that. all they said was we had our personnel in place before we got Bush Hamden. And that's basically all the comment was, but that made it sound like when Bush got here wasn't the personnel that maybe Bush won it because they did. They had Brock and the roster and added Bush late because of the Lamb's situation. So that one little comment made it sound that way. I do think that's a thing. And that's where, you know, I'd heard going into this game that we're going to put
Starting point is 00:16:37 Wimson in on the third series. It was already set, not just come in for a play, you know, a whole series. And I picked him to my player of the game. I thought, man, this may be the breakout moment he needs. He's going to get a chance. But part of me wonders if they were set on that and overlooked the fact that Brock played great in the first two drives. Yeah, well, that's why they didn't make the change.
Starting point is 00:16:55 They let Brock go ahead and stay on, but then they make the change at halftime when the scores at 10 to 10. I don't know if that was the right time to do it either. Yeah, I've gotten the sense, and I have no inside information, but I've gotten the sense that they feel like Brock is not the quarterback for Bush's system.
Starting point is 00:17:13 Which may or may not be true. But again, no offense to Gavin. I just don't know what he's done. I mean, we were awful in the second half offensively. Like, we were, we were certainly worse than we were in the first half, right? If he put Gavin in, and the poor guy felt like the play calling, they made him do just didn't work. He had with that second position, he was throwing three deep balls. Well, I don't understand why he's throwing three deep balls.
Starting point is 00:17:38 That's what Brock does. Like, if we're going to throw three deep balls, use Brock. You know, I don't get, I didn't get it. ran the ball and didn't even, Wilcox and Patterson didn't even touch it that one series. I don't get it. Clayton and Kroom was founded on a simple idea. What was it? All leather goods should last a lifetime. I love that simple idea.
Starting point is 00:17:57 I have four Clayton and Kroom things on me right now. Have they lasted a lifetime? Yes. Bags, belts, wallets, and more. It's Clayton and Kroom.com. My mom gets me Clayton and Kroom Christmas gifts. You got us all a Clayton and Kroom Christmas gift. Yes, right there.
Starting point is 00:18:09 C-R-U-M-E.com. Clayton and Kroom. If it's good enough for our gifts to each other, it's good enough for you. By the way, Shannon, Ryan takes Clayton and Krum Gifts to the Illuminati meeting so that he can get in them. CRUME.com. They have a store on Shelby Street in Louisville in New Lou, quality leather goods built to last. We'll take a break. Be right back.
Starting point is 00:18:30 Last night, a blown call changed the game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking. Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when
Starting point is 00:19:39 we're in the pursuit of the thing, We get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on Earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Starting point is 00:20:02 Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Keir Gaines, is we have really. Real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free iHeartRadio app.
Starting point is 00:20:20 Search Learn the hard way and listen now. What's up, fam, it's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows.
Starting point is 00:20:40 without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall.
Starting point is 00:20:57 And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. man, he running up the court, licking his fingers
Starting point is 00:21:11 why he got the ball, like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Oh, yeah. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:21:31 Hey, everyone, it's Ryder Strong, and Will Ferdell from PodMeets World. And now the PodMeets Twirled podcast. We're two men who were completely clueless to reality TV, who now have covered Dancing with the Stars, traders, and we're gearing up for the season finale of Survivor. So yeah, now we're experts. I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners by our severe lack of survivor knowledge.
Starting point is 00:21:54 That is the point of the show. I'm just going to remind you. I have watched some Survivor. I obviously haven't watched enough. Did people not like it? Yeah. Just because we? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:04 We'll be recapping the big conclusion in the 50th season. From the final attempts at gameplay to the desperate pleas of finalists to a bunch of Ha, ooh, ha, ha, ooh. Again, we are experts. So make sure to tune into Pod Meets Twirled for all our Survivor 50 takes. Listen to PodMeets Twirled on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th.
Starting point is 00:22:28 And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants. want you to wave at her. What? Come on. Quarterback on office blue of 42.
Starting point is 00:22:49 Hey, Rhett, Mom, I want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio, 859-2-80-2287. Text machine 772-7-7-7-4. One person writes, Matt, do we live?
Starting point is 00:23:16 lose Vince if Stoops leaves. Not necessarily. I think I don't care who the coach is. They're going to do whatever they can to keep him. There's probably nobody with more secure job status than Vince. I guess you could look at it if they make a change with the wrong hire. You could lose Vince, Brad White, a bunch of players. Well, you would want to keep Vince because I think you'd keep a lot of the roster that way. And a top recruiting class. I think if you lost Vince, you'd not only lose your coach you lose your roster and you're starting over. So, and that, that would be tough, especially in today's college football. 859-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:23:57 Remember, we're open here at KSbar for lunch. Pre-game shows at 430 here, so love to have you stop by on the way to the game. Shannon, I have a story that I thought you would like. Did you see the story about the Carolina Hurricanes and McDonald's? I don't think I did. I really like this story a lot. All right, so the Carolina Hurricanes, I stayed up last, like to 1 a.m. watching their game. They beat
Starting point is 00:24:17 Vancouver. But they're on, the way hockey works is all the teams, they do a West Coast road trip and they play all the teams in Canada on the West Coast in Seattle. And it's like a four or five game road trip. So Carolina's on their game now. They're playing in Seattle, and then they're supposed to take a plane to Vancouver. Problem is their plane breaks down. So they have to take a bus from Seattle to Vancouver. Games over in Seattle, they get on the bus. They haven't eaten yet because they're going to.
Starting point is 00:24:45 the game. They try to figure out where to go. Long story short, you know, you can't get a party for 100 or 50 or whatever. So they go, okay, let's go to McDonald's. They go to McDonald's in like a small suburb, a small, this is small town between Seattle and Vancouver. They pull off at a McDonald's. There's a random McDonald's. The doors are closed. It's drive-through only because it's too late at not. So they say, okay, so Brett Burns is like, you know what? I will, I'll just walk through the drive-thru because the bus will not fit through this small town drive-thead. So he walks and they say to him on the thing, sorry, we cannot serve you on foot. And he was like, but I'm ordering a hundred cheeseburgers from you. He ordered a hundred cheeseburgers for
Starting point is 00:25:41 They're like, we'll fix them for you, but we're not allowed by company policy to walk through the drive-thru. So he's ordered 100 cheeseburgers. They have them made. You got to get them. But how's he going to get him? He goes outside. He flags down a guy on the road.
Starting point is 00:25:59 Says, I'll give you $100 if I can get in your car with you and go through the drive-thru. No way. And get our cheeseburgers. He hands you $100, Shannon, gets in the car. they go through the drive-thru, hands of him 100 cheeseburgers, and then he gets on the bus and gives all the team the cheeseburger. Got to do what you got to do to get a cheeseburger sometimes. I don't understand why they couldn't just walk the food out to the parking lot.
Starting point is 00:26:22 Apparently, it is company policy. You cannot walk through a drive-thru, and you cannot walk it out to the thing. I can confirm you can't walk through a McDonald's drive-thru. So I love this. I just love the idea. First of all, what a team captain. Amen. What a team captain goes and flags down a guy on the side of the road and says,
Starting point is 00:26:38 can I get in your car? I want you to imagine you're that guy. Yes. You're in a small town. It's 11 o'clock at night. You're like, let's go to McDonald's. All of a sudden you do. First of all, look up Brett Burns.
Starting point is 00:26:50 He has no front teeth. No, I'm serious. Look him up. He has no front teeth. A guy comes up to you with no front teeth. Oh, yeah. I love that guy in. Can I get in your car?
Starting point is 00:27:01 Here's $100. Let's go pick up 100 cheeseburgers at McDonald's. I just love that story. I love the Carolina. of hurricanes. I love that story. If I'm that guy and some toothless dudes banging on my car wasn't me to get 100 cheeseburgers to the McDonald's drive-toe for him, I'm flooring it and getting out of there. And you would never think this hockey team is in your small town. Yeah. And this toothless guy. Oh, yeah, right. Your Carolina of hurricanes are in that
Starting point is 00:27:25 bus. Yeah, right. Who's going to look at somebody, Shane and go, I need 100 cheeseburgers. Take me through the drive. I think I'm just speeding off and leaving the guy there and figure it out on your own. Good luck. I love that story. Who's up next? Let's go to Joseph. Joseph, go ahead, Joseph. I appreciate you taking my call. I got a football point, but real fast. I used to drive Uber in Louisville, and I used to take people to some, like,
Starting point is 00:27:51 warehouse complex in the west end, in the dead end, and they'd get out of the car and go to some, like, abandoned-looking warehouse with a purple light over the door. And I never asked what that was. Yeah, don't ask. You don't ask. Yes. I'm not saying them all, but I continue to get towns where this happens.
Starting point is 00:28:12 And I have gotten probably five people that have written a text machine talking about the Ashland one. The Ashland one is clearly the legend. Amen. It must be. I want to know what's going down that Ashland one. We need inside video of whatever's happening. You know, I remember who told us, and I thought he was full of it. He was not. Go ahead, Joseph. Did Ryan into Ashland into the bottom of this? I'm going.
Starting point is 00:28:34 Joseph? Yeah. So with regards to football, I think everyone said last week that the team, it looked like everybody quit. And Ryan's comments earlier sounds like the team that's quit. I just want to point out, teams don't just quit on their own if the coach is still got fire in the belly. That just doesn't happen. I think we'll know a lot, Saturday. In all seriousness, I think we'll know, for whatever reason we've stunk at home.
Starting point is 00:29:03 But we're going to Tennessee. and if they don't show up against, whether they win or not, but if they don't show up at night against their rival with Tennessee, if they go lose by 40 and her lifeless, Joseph, I think that says it's been mailed in. That's right. I agree with you,
Starting point is 00:29:24 and it's just probably time for everybody just to move on. I appreciate that. I mean, whether they win or not, I am going to judge a lot based on what effort you get Saturday night. If they come out and roll over, then this is probably it. I'm with you. I've got to see that. You know, Vince Steven said last night, after they stunk it up against South Carolina,
Starting point is 00:29:44 stoop's rallyed, the troops got them ready for a good game against Georgia. You know, they came back really strong. I got to see that this weekend. I can't see a 40-point blowout and them, you know, can't tackle, can't block, can't run the routes. Well, you can tell, even when they lose, you can tell when they're in it. Yeah. You just can't.
Starting point is 00:30:03 Yeah. And you can tell when they're not. They were not in it in the second half against South Carolina. They were not in it in the second half against Florida. They just weren't. And they weren't in it the fourth quarter against Auburn. We'll find out Saturday. And the defense really needs to step up.
Starting point is 00:30:17 They've kind of lost, you know, one of their best. The defensive front is what was playing so well in kept them in games. They've played poorly lately. Poor. The offense, I just, I think they could take their A-plus game. Tennessee's got the number two defense in the country. They probably have the best defensive player in the country. I worry about even if Kentucky's defense shows up and they play with heart,
Starting point is 00:30:37 how they can score any points down there. New York Times just released an article, the colorful and cultish world of those that love nerds gummy clusters. That's you. That's you. I was early on that. Yes, you were. Just for the record.
Starting point is 00:30:52 We'll take a break. Be right back. There's an outbreak in Lexington. I'll tell you what it is next. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Starting point is 00:31:04 Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio. Have you heard about the problem that the health officials in Lexington are dealing with now? You scared me when you tease this story because I don't know what you're going to get ready to tell me. There have been in the last week eight skunks found in Lexington with rabies. No. They are worried that there is a rabies outbreak amongst the skunks in Lexington. So they're telling people, obviously, be careful yourself around skunks, but specifically your pets.
Starting point is 00:31:39 Yeah. Because the way they found this is they're not catching skunks. They're catching dogs who have been bitten by skunks. I didn't know skunks bit dogs, but apparently skunks will take a chunk out of a dog, and the dogs then have rabies. And so they are warning people of a potential skunk rabies outbreak, Ryan, in the Lexington. Something else for you to worry about. Yeah, I didn't know this. So now when I walk my dogs around the neighborhood, I'm going to be like, I got to take a stick. Watch out for the skunks. We have for the skunk. So does this worry you? It does. Yeah, definitely.
Starting point is 00:32:12 Because then if the dog gets rabies, then you could get rabies. Yeah. And you don't want that. I don't want that. Scunks apparently, I read this. I didn't know this. Scunks are scared of people, so they shoot their sin at you. But they're not scared of dogs. So they'll take a big chunk out of a dog if they want. Ryan, no more going up and petting skunks. We know you like to do that. Check out the neighborhood skunk. Can't be having that. No skunk petting, Shannon, which at least in Lexington.
Starting point is 00:32:38 I feel like in Louisville, you're still okay. Scums are okay. You're still okay to put, not pun a skunk. Putt a skunk. Don't even just kick a skunk, you know? Sometimes you just get in a mood to kick a skunk. So rabies, that's deadly, right? Like, if you get rabies.
Starting point is 00:32:53 If a human gets rabies, it's not good, is it? No. They give you like 20 shots in your belly button. Oh, God. What? Yeah, look it up. That's how they used to treat rabies. You'd get like 20 shots in your belly button.
Starting point is 00:33:05 Did you have it? No, I didn't. It's in your belly button. Yes. He's shaking his head. It's in your stomach. Yeah. How do you know?
Starting point is 00:33:13 The things you know. Like, you literally don't know the most basic things, and then you know that you get a needle in a belly button for a skunk. Somebody obviously said that when I was young and it scarred me for life. I remember it. When I was a kid, my grandma said, don't be on the phone during a lightning storm, or you'll get struck.
Starting point is 00:33:30 That didn't mean it was correct. I Googled it on the fly, just because, you know, when Ryan says something like that, you never know. It was actually 14 shots in the belly button. 14 shots and the belly button. But it says here that they stopped doing it in the 1980s.
Starting point is 00:33:42 Okay, so now they don't do 14 shots in the belly button? We've advanced in our skunk technology. Okay. The bears have not cut number 29. He apologized. I did see the apology. He said, I'm sorry. The coaches said not only.
Starting point is 00:33:57 did he screw up by not paying attention, he screwed up because he was supposed to be the guy that covered the tip guy. I saw a play diagram. That was his man. His man, he was supposed to be the guy, all the other players were supposed to jump, and he was supposed to stand back and make sure if what happened didn't happen. Not only did he not do that, he's the one that tipped it up in the air. So he could not have done a worse job. He, like they're showing it right now. Not only did he taunt everybody. Not only did he jump when he wasn't supposed to, but he was also supposed to get the guy behind him and he didn't. Would you have cut him? I think, I saw the apology. That's a good move on his part, but I think there's got to be some form of punishment or something. You can't let your
Starting point is 00:34:43 players get away with stuff like that. So I don't know if you suspend him for a game or a heavy fine. I mean, you're a Bears fan. What do you think they should do to him? Well, I mean, the amount that people hate him is probably punishment enough. Yeah. Like, I mean, even I know his name, Tyreek Stevens. I mean, do I know, I don't know most of the players in the, so that's going to live with him. Going to follow him with his career, yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:06 So I think that's probably drew as much punishment as anything, right? Yeah, there was probably some in-house stuff that wasn't fun for him. I looked him up because I never heard of him, but I mean, he's one of their better cornerbacks. But I love how there's four Bears players ready to bat it down like they teach you. swat it straight to the ground and he just jumps over all of them to punch it directly up into the air towards the guy he's supposed to be defending. Literally.
Starting point is 00:35:32 I think he had money on Noah to score a touchdown. The defensive coordinator for the Bears yesterday said we would have been better off if he wasn't even on the field. Ten men on the field. But his point was it wouldn't have gotten tipped up. That's true. Like if he had just not been on the field, they would have been better. So tough day for Tyreeks Stevenson.
Starting point is 00:35:54 Doing good. Doing good. How are you? Just, I'm always doing good, gentlemen. How about you? Great. I've got a conspiracy series that came out during the Auburn game on Saturday night. I made the, or a friend of mine made an observation that if, if that had been Ryan Lemon that it ran out of gas,
Starting point is 00:36:15 someone would have just given in their car and just told him calling back later, whereas Pope had to wait around and all that stuff. And then I had the revelation that, oh, my. my gosh, Ryan is actually a spy for some international conglomeration of intrigue or something like that. If you think about it, is there anybody else in the state that could get any door to open for him in the whole state of Kentucky, knows more stuff about more people that we have no idea even the depths of his connections, and that you at least suspect. I think he covers it up by throwing out some crazy stuff every now and then,
Starting point is 00:36:50 and then he lets it slip when he has these amazing observations. You know, at first I didn't know where you were going with this, but I would say there's a handful of people in this world. I appreciate the call. That I think I could call with almost anything, and they would know the person to call. Ryan Lemon is certainly on the list. The number one person of that is Rocky Adkins.
Starting point is 00:37:18 Rocky Adkins knows everyone. Johnny Bruce. but no one's quite like you. You know a person in every town. You could literally, he's right. You could get invited to any event. So for all the making fun of you, you are sort of like the connection to the state,
Starting point is 00:37:42 which is weird because you haven't even lived in this state your whole life. No. I've been here, what, now, 27 years? I've said this before. You are the mayor of Black Lexington. Yes. I don't know any white person that is, liked more by the black community in Lexington than you.
Starting point is 00:37:58 And I don't know how all of this happened. I don't know either. That sounds like something a spy would say. But Drew, am I, am I, true, am I wrong about any of this? Not at all. Not at all. I like the fact the guy thinks I'm a spy. Well, but just the way people in Lexington,
Starting point is 00:38:19 like more people talk to you than me. like more people like you're much more celebrated in a lot of ways I mean I was the sports guy for 12 years in this town I think that but you're a lot more love than Alan Cutler's like you know I mean people like you more than they like him no offense to Allen but it's true I you know I worked in Evansville so I got to know the second region third region that area over there then I work in here in Lexington so I know this central Kentucky area But you know everyone in the mountains, too.
Starting point is 00:38:53 That's a good point. I grew up watching Rying on TV. You know everyone in the mountains, too. Well, that's through you in this show. Yeah. Well, all right, who's next? Mike. Mike, it'd be Rocky Atkins than you. That'd be the two.
Starting point is 00:39:04 Mike, go ahead. Mike, go ahead. Hello? Hello? Yes. I had a football comment and a basketball question. Okay. The football comment is we're seeing the old adage, I believe,
Starting point is 00:39:21 but when you have two quarterbacks, you don't have one good one. Yeah. And basketball question is, what are the fans doing with their Calipari basketballs? Well, that's an interesting question. So if you have a Calip, I appreciate the call. You have a Calipari signed basketball. Do you still leave it up? I have one. It's on my shelf at home. So, yeah, you still leave it up. My office, I have a lot of UK memorabilia. It's right next to a ball signed by Bill Kightly. Do we have a picture of Cal in here? I assume we do.
Starting point is 00:39:51 There's one right behind you, you and him and Anthony Davis. So we've left that one up. We moved him back to here. We moved him back with Petino and Joe B in the back and made Pope a little more prominent by the door. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, he's still in here.
Starting point is 00:40:04 No, I mean, I think he still is. I think unless he does something, I want him to lose every game. But unless he does something where he talks bad about us, which I don't really think he's done yet, I don't think there's a reason to, like, hate him or anything. Correct? Too many good memories.
Starting point is 00:40:23 Yeah, I think we still celebrate. great what he did here. We don't forget about those great teams. So if you got a ball autographed by Calipari, yeah, you're still, I still surprised. But let's say Arkansas and Cal are playing a game. Tell me when you're rooting for Arkansas. Are you rooting for Arkansas against an SEC team like Missouri? Or are you rooting for Missouri? I'm rooting for Missouri. I'm rooting for Missouri. What are you doing? Missouri, however, when the season goes on, I don't care that it's Cal. I'm rooting for whatever's better for Kentucky. in the standings when we get to like February March.
Starting point is 00:40:57 Yeah, I'm rooting for Missouri, I think, no matter what. But if we need Arkansas to beat a Tennessee. Yeah, but that's a different point. I mean, obviously, I'm not going to let my hatred get in the way of what Kentucky needs. Obviously, if we need to win the SEC, that's a different point. I'm just saying in general, Arkansas's playing Missouri. Missouri.
Starting point is 00:41:10 Are Arkansas playing North Carolina? I'm taking North Carolina. I'm probably going to also root for North Carolina. What about you? Yeah, I hate to say root for North Carolina, but, uh, yeah. Let's see how far it goes. Arkansas, Indiana. I'm rooting for Indiana.
Starting point is 00:41:30 I'm rooting for Indiana. Yeah, Indiana. All right. Arkansas. Duke. I knew it was coming. Arkansas. I have limits.
Starting point is 00:41:40 I'm room for Duke. This year with Duke being so good, I probably will find myself rooting for Arkansas because that'd be the big upset. I'm room for Duke. Arkansas, Tennessee. This is where I really need to know the scenario, because I can't.
Starting point is 00:41:55 Just say, play first. game of the year, Arkansas, Tennessee. Top. NCAA tournament. Arkansas, Tennessee, first round. I know that can't happen, but what are you doing? I'm going Tennessee. I think I'm going Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:42:06 Yeah. I can't say that out loud. I think I'm going to Tennessee. You got to pick. You're going to Arkansas, Tennessee. And that's big for you. You grew up down in that area where the Tennessee hate is real. I think for right now, if it was not, if he's not.
Starting point is 00:42:18 Look, Arkansas played Duke in the tournament a few years ago. I ruled for Arkansas. But in this scenario, I'm running for Tennessee. Arkansas. Arkansas, Louisville. Arkansas, Louisville, winner goes to Final Four. Arkansas. Arkansas.
Starting point is 00:42:36 I'm going to root for Arkansas in that one situation. Yeah. Louisville is the only one. Louisville's the only one. I'm taking, because maybe this is petty. But we have to win the breakup. We have to win the breakup. There's a breakup.
Starting point is 00:42:58 Everybody knows when you break up with somebody, there's a winner and a loser. There just he is. We could justify. We're pulling for DJ, Big Z, Tyler Ullis, you know, everybody. You can justify it. Louisville is the only exception because we got to listen to those people all of the time. But we, I mean, maybe I'm the only one.
Starting point is 00:43:20 I mean, I want them to lose most games, but my view is. I got teams I hate and that ain't changing. Take Duke. Duke makes the final four all the time. Duke's good. Like, it's no shame to us if Duke makes the final four. But if our coach goes to another school and does better than he's done here in the last five years, that will annoy me. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:41 Oh, yeah. Yes. So that's why I'd rather root for Duke because I'm used to Duke making a Final Four. And, you know, that could be a scenario that plays out this year. I think Arkansas is going to be really good this year. I'm surprised you all would take Arkansas over Duke. Tennessee, I understand. I'm not going to have that much jealousy.
Starting point is 00:44:01 I said this when he left. He's going to be better there, and we're going to be better. But what if we're not better? What if we're not better? What if we're still going to be better than what was going to come back? So that's my thing. So you would rather, you would rather, Cal, win a title in Arkansas. He's playing Arkansas.
Starting point is 00:44:19 Just completely changed the argument. Arkansas Duke in the championship game. Oh, I mean, I don't want Duke winning one either or catching up with us. So you're picking Cal versus Duke's championship. I genuinely would not watch that game. Arkansas Duke's. But whatever Cal does has no impact on Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:44:37 I mean, we're going to be a little jealous. That's easy to say. We all know he's going to be better there. That's easy to say. Let us lose this game February 1st and see if people think it does that. I mean, his overall season, yeah, head-to-head, of course we want to win that. I'm just saying if Cal has some good wins. Arkansas-Dute title.
Starting point is 00:44:50 If it's a title game, I don't want Cal Perry to win. I'd probably have to go with Duke. Yeah. the only title game I'm picking Arkansas in is if they play Louisville. Then I would probably say, all right, Cal, you know. Go DJ. Let's go. Yeah, that would be for DJ and a do and Z.
Starting point is 00:45:08 Hey, Draft Kings, betting partner of the NBA, last night our Carl Towns did not get up to 20 points. No. But Sebastian Aho scored a goal. He did. So that worked. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch.
Starting point is 00:47:01 Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on Earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person.
Starting point is 00:47:17 Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast. Learn the Hardway. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the hard way and listen now. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the play.
Starting point is 00:47:55 I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get to flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball.
Starting point is 00:48:21 Like, you go through a training camp with that Isaiah, you figure it up. real quick. Oh, yeah. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, everyone. It's Ryder Strong and Will Ferdell from PodMeets World.
Starting point is 00:48:43 And now the PodMeets Twirled podcast. We're two men who were completely clueless to reality TV, who now have covered Dancing with the Stars, traitors, and we're gearing up for the season finale of Survivor. So, yeah, now we're experts. I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners by, um, our severe lack of survivor knowledge. That is the point of the show. I'm just going to remind you.
Starting point is 00:49:05 I have watched some Survivor. I obviously haven't watched enough. Did people not like it? Yeah. Just because we? Yeah. We'll be recapping the big conclusion at the 50th season
Starting point is 00:49:16 from the final attempts at gameplay to the desperate pleas of finalists to a bunch of ha, who. Ha, ha, who. Again, we are experts. So make sure to tune in a pod meets twirled for all our Survivor 50 takes. Listen to Pod Meets Tworrell on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:49:35 What's up, guys? This is Clivert Taylor the Fourth. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out.
Starting point is 00:49:55 Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, ref. My mom will want you to wave. better. What? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:50:17 It seems like most of the people on the text machine tend to agree with you all and not me. But I think you got... I want what topic? On the skunks. No, on the... on the rooting for rooting for Arkansas or not.
Starting point is 00:50:35 But let me give it more context real quick for my opinion. If Kentucky does not have as much success in these first couple years as Arkansas, if there's a big gap there,
Starting point is 00:50:51 that will hurt the Kentucky program. Duke having success doesn't really hurt the Kentucky program. Tennessee having success. even though I don't want them to win nearly every game, it doesn't really hurt us. Louisville's a little bit, but not.
Starting point is 00:51:08 I mean, that's more of a pride thing. But there are people out there who believe Kentucky basketball will not be the same once he leaves. And I think if you want Mark Pope to succeed, which we all do, he needs to be able to not have a big gap between him and the former coach. If there's a big gap in success, it will make it hard for Mark Pope. It will put pressure on Mark Pope. And then it'll make people go, well, what is Kentucky basketball without Caliper?
Starting point is 00:51:39 And that's partially my thing, is that Duke wins a title. That ain't changing anything for us. But the other thing actually, Ryan could. Yeah, Arkansas wins a title. That changes things. A lot different. That's different. And then all of a sudden he gets that recruiting rolling down there.
Starting point is 00:51:56 It's different. So like they, I actually think oddly have more of a direct impact on us right now than any other program. It'll just be for these couple years. Four or five years, even if he stays, Drew, I don't think that'll be true. But in these first couple years, I actually think it does. Yeah, I hear you. I mean, I don't want them to go 38 and 0 or 381 or anything crazy. But I just, I want Louisville, Tennessee, and Duke to lose every game.
Starting point is 00:52:23 It's pretty simple. I hate those teams. I wish they could lose every sport. Do you hate Duke as much now that Kay's not the coach? Oh, yeah, definitely. I mean, Duke's Duke. And there's still a couple titles behind, but we don't want them stacking more titles.
Starting point is 00:52:36 There's a really big recruiting battle going on right now between U.K. and Pope and Arkansas and Cal with that Caleb Wilson. Yeah, we're going to talk more about that later this week. Caden Lewis will make his decision. Tuesday, isn't it? It's November 2nd. So it's Saturday. It's Saturday.
Starting point is 00:52:54 And that's the top 25 player would be a Thursday. a great get for Kentucky. And then Caleb Wilson is probably deciding soon after, and it could be Kentucky and Arkansas that he comes down to. So it'd be nice for Pope's already won one recruiting battle against Arkansas. Be nice to get another. Who's next? Jake.
Starting point is 00:53:12 Jake, go ahead, Jake. Matt, it's been a really fun show. I enjoyed the politics, the gambling. I think we should talk about religion now to have our cultural lesson today.
