Welcome, everyone on Kentucky Sports Radio Tuesday, November 5th. I'm Matt Jones. It is Election Day here in America, not just. just in Kentucky, and we are at the KS Bar and Grill. Got a great young man here from Paducah joining us, and it's Election Day, and we'd love for you to come out.
Starting point is 00:03:43 You're off school, right? No school. 9-280-2287 on the clock's puppet shop phone line, A Vision Auto Glass text machine 772-744-25-254. This edition is sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office, you call T.J. He'll make them pay. It is Election Day. Monique, our wonderful manager, sitting over there. Wave to everybody, Monique, even though it's the radio. Monique said, she was like, it's election day.
Starting point is 00:04:07 She was like, maybe we shouldn't, you know, maybe we should take the day off for the election because people vote. And I was like, no, this is a good day to be open because people are out of school, right? So, like, they can come. Now you all have to actually come today so that Monique doesn't kill me. Because Monique, she's shaking her head over there. Because, like, if we have a slow day after I said, because I thought with people being out of school, this is the perfect time to come for lunch or whatever. Because you don't have school. A lot of parents have to take the day off to be home for their kids.
Starting point is 00:04:39 And, like, the kids are going to vote at least five or six times each. So, Drew, it feels like this would be what you would want to do. And what a great place to celebrate your vote after you, you know, do your service to your country. Did you get a sticker? Did you get a sticker? I've been yet. Are you going to go? Yeah, I'll go.
Starting point is 00:04:54 I feel like you're going to skip. I always go. Do you? I went by this morning where I go at Central Center Point Christian Church, parking lot was pat. Yes. In Louisville, they had some problems this morning, apparently. They did where I was because it took an hour for 20 people to go through a line. Yeah, were the machines down?
Starting point is 00:05:10 Was that the problem where you were? I'm not sure exactly what the issue was, but it took way too long. Yeah, I guess the machines were down in part, but they say it's fixed now. Wow. And, you know, hopefully it all goes smoothly. And then tonight, I'll be at the movie theater. You can call each other when the country birds down. You said you're going to stay off your phone.
Starting point is 00:05:30 We'll be able to do it. I've already know. There's a movie at 7. Then there's a movie at 945. You go see them both? I think so. Yeah. I'm going to check in between just to get like an update.
Starting point is 00:05:43 Yeah. And then back off. And then hopefully when I'm done by midnight, I still don't think we'll know. Like they still don't think they'll have declared it. But I think you'll have a pretty good sense by like midnight. That's my guess. I'm the opposite. I haven't read or seen anything in the last year.
Starting point is 00:05:59 But I'll watch everything tonight. You will? Yeah. This is how I will learn about the candidates today. You've never heard of them? There's two of them. There's two of them. Donald Trump.
Starting point is 00:06:09 It used to be a businessman. And then Kamala Harris, she was a senator. Well, she was national advisor. I have to bring something up. I do this every election day. I get up and I try to do my research on all these other races. Yeah, you can't do. Judges.
Starting point is 00:06:24 There's nothing to do. There's nothing. We have two candidates in my house. I won't say their names. We're calling one of them Fire Lady because I kept getting this pop-up video of a burning building on her site. I'm like, I can't even read it. about her because this burning video keeps showing up.
Starting point is 00:06:37 And the other person, we just call her flyer lady because we have a pamphlet for every day. That's the only thing I know about them is a pop-up ad on a site and all this mail. So how do you choose between mail and fire? When I left the house, we were still sitting there. You don't know where to go mail or fire? You can't find anything about some of these other people. Like you go to their website and it's like, well, her husband has a small business and she went to this school. I don't care what her husband does.
Starting point is 00:07:01 What are these people about? There's my complaint election. I think that's a fair to find. So Fire Lady and Pamplet Lady is going down in the wire. So you haven't voted yet either. No. Shannon, you have. I have.
Starting point is 00:07:09 I didn't see Kristen Powers on my ballot, unfortunately. I don't think she's running this time. Mario, have you voted? Are you going to? He thinks so. He's got things going on. You understand? Like, he's got to make me.
Starting point is 00:07:24 He's got videos to make. He thinks so, Ryan, we'll see. Well, I heard of one of these national guys on the radio this morning. He said there's a scenario where it could. end up deadlocked. There is. I think that's unlikely. I think that the scenario, there is a scenario where it ends up, I mean, I'll do all this
Starting point is 00:07:43 in the second hour, but there's a scenario where Harris would get Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and there's a district in Nebraska that gets its own vote. Really? Yes. And it'll probably go Harris. But if it went Trump, then it could end up tied. Wow. And what happens?
Starting point is 00:08:00 They fight at WrestleMania. They do. That would be great. Why not OVW? Well, we tried. They outbid us. They fight at WrestleMania, and then that's who gets to be president. I think next should be whoever sent the most pamphlets.
Starting point is 00:08:12 But 2609-269 is a definite possibility. I heard that guy said this morning. It's unlikely, but it's theoretic. It's what I'm saying. Yeah, there is a possibility. All right, we'll do all that later. Let's talk about the basketball game. Kentucky opened the season last night against Wright State,
Starting point is 00:08:28 and it was a lot of fun. Cats led from the opening. Tip played well. I mean only made 113s but scored 103 points layups, steals, passing, just a fun, just a fun style of basketball, good crowd, excited atmosphere. Ryan, I'm not sure the start of the Pope era and a 41 point victory, which is the exact number, of course, of the number he wore in college. I'm not sure you could have had a better start to all things Mark Pope. It's just amazing how it's so much fun. And that's It's so enjoyable to watch them play.
Starting point is 00:09:05 Running plays coming out of a timeout. You know, putting on three-quarter full court press. Just think basketball things that they're doing now. But it was good to kind of see them play so well and whether they didn't have to rely on a three-point ball so much. No, I mean, you made 11-3s. O-A and Brea were seven of those 11 threes. They were seven for seven together.
Starting point is 00:09:25 They were seven for seven. The two dudes were like, well, who's going to start? They're both like, well, you're going to make them? I might have to make them. And they both did great. Two leading scores on the team. That bray look away three. I mean, come on, what are we doing?
Starting point is 00:09:37 The screenshot where the ball's not even to the backboard yet, and he's turned around looking at. Oh, is there a picture like that? I just paused the shot from the gang and tweeted it. Yeah, I mean, the ball's not even to the goal yet. He's turned around looking at the guy behind him. That was the highlight of the night. But just of all the fun, they did this a little bit in exhibitions,
Starting point is 00:09:54 but 30 assists on what was like 39 baskets, I think. They just passed the ball so much to get the best shot. And they get their hands. They get the steals. Six guys in double figures. You know, you expected, I mean, you held a team that averaged 81 points a game. You held them to 63. I mean, I just don't know how it could have gone much better.
Starting point is 00:10:16 Then you just have the vibes of the environment. Really good crowd. Not full, but Drew, I think, for a note. It was close. It was close. We sit up there at the top of the end zone now, so I have a pretty good feel because, you know, it's the worst section. Use that end zone's pretty empty. It was completely empty, both exhibitions.
Starting point is 00:10:32 It was almost all the way full in the end zone up there, too. So great crowd, people into it. I want to say, for those of you that don't go, that give me the tickets to give away, that's such a cool thing. Yeah. Because, so like I was at the sauna. You know, I go to the sauna on revived sauna. Okay.
Starting point is 00:10:52 And I was like, I had four tickets, and I said, first people to get here. Had to come in the sauna again from you? Well, I was sitting on the porch. No, they didn't have to come see me in the sauna. I wasn't like you have to walk in. All sweaty. Oh, sweaty. And like, come on.
Starting point is 00:11:08 I have a little bit of taste. This was when I was done. I was sitting on the porch. Tickets are all soft from the porch. But the point is they come like, like two different people come running up. Yeah. One girl was late, like she was third. And then while I was standing there, somebody sent me more tickets.
Starting point is 00:11:24 And I was able to give her the tickets. Then an hour later, I had more tickets. And so I gave away it on social media. I didn't have given away 14. tickets last night. 14. And people sit me pictures of themselves. That's a great.
Starting point is 00:11:36 It's a very cool thing to do rather than it be empty, right? Have people give away the ticket. Yeah, I asked our friend here from Medooka, Kevin. He said that was almost full and people stayed to the end and even stayed for the Mark Pope press conference when he even talked to Tom Leach afterwards. That was, you could tell listening on the radio that there were people there. Yeah. Let me tell you something about Mark Pope after these press conference, after these Tom Leach interviews.
Starting point is 00:11:58 They stay and like talk to people. Now, I'm going to tell you this story, and I want everybody to, A, think it's sweet, and B, not expect you're going to be next, okay? So I'm being serious. I want to say this because I think it gives you a sense of who our coach is, but don't let go, okay, can I be the next ones? Yeah, right? This guy from Martin County, Kentucky. Do you remember Martin County? Very rural.
Starting point is 00:12:24 That's where they had the water crisis, deep in the mountains, Inez. We did a show from there. I did a TV special on it. We got nominated for an Emmy for the thing we did. That was where the guy lied and told me he was a different person than he was, if you remember, on camera. We were in Martin County a lot during that time. Really nice people, very isolated. A guy was here from Martin County with like three kids.
Starting point is 00:12:47 They stayed after they just hoped to meet a player. After the game, they said something like seven of the ten players they ended up getting her, seven of the 12 getting autographs from. Mark Pope came over, heard where they. were from, talked to him for a minute, and ended up taking them in the back and showing them the locker room. Wow. No kidding. These four people from Mark County ended up in the locker room. Just regular fans. Yep. That's not donor fans, just regular fans. And like the person wrote me and said, this was the coolest night for my kids of their life. That's the guy we have coaching, Ryan. And obviously we got to win, but winning and having stuff like that happened. I think that's
Starting point is 00:13:30 why people are so excited because he gets what it means, what basketball means to this state. What being a UK basketball player and UK coach means to people in this state. We put you on a very high pedestal, and Pope gets that. He understands it. There's probably so many of those stories we'll never know of him doing things like that already. I know after an exhibition, a woman who listened to the show, she had been on the Italy trip in 1996. Oh, really?
Starting point is 00:13:53 That's neat. And she had a bunch of pictures in her hand, and I guess somehow Pope found out, and he had told her to go stand in the corner, and he wanted to talk to her about Italy and all the fun they had for a little bit. This is after coaching a game and it's time to go home. He sought her out. I mean, he probably does this so many times. We'll never know how many times. That's exactly right. This person just happened to write me, but it probably happens all the time and we don't even know. He said in the post game it was one of the most special moments of his life last night, getting to coach that game and come out and have that applause. That's really cool.
Starting point is 00:14:23 Yeah, Jimmy Dykes asked him after the game, you know, what was it like for you to come out of that tunnel? And then, of course, they gave him the bourbon barrel head. That was awesome. That was awesome. That was a cool thing to bring, give the bourbon barrel head. Mitch Barnhart handing Mark Pope of bourbon barrel head, though, is a little funny. Probably don't have huge bourbon collections at home. Probably neither of them drinks it.
Starting point is 00:14:42 You know, and they're like, neither of them did it, but that was a little ironic. Yeah, that is a little ironic. And the team, you know, celebrating with him like they just won a championship, you know, and rubbing his head. It is so interesting with these guys. And in saying this, I don't want to disparage the kind of guys we've had in the last 13 or 14 years, watching their talent of these years. young dudes was awesome. Watching guys become players over the course of a year was very, very cool.
Starting point is 00:15:07 But there's awesome, so something neat and refreshing about seeing 22 and 23-year-old people who are becoming adults or are adults who play. And as a caller said on the post-game show, most of the players on the team, maybe all of the players on the team, but certainly most of them, this is not a stop to an end. this is a destination, right? Yeah. This is a destination. Jackson Robinson might play in the NBA.
Starting point is 00:15:36 Maybe Garrison plays in the NBA, maybe. But for the rest of them, they'll have a pro career if they want to have it, but it might probably won't be in the NBA. And this is a destination, and it's cool watching them because it feels like they all really do appreciate it. Yeah, I think that it is. They understand. They're mature enough and old enough to understand how appreciative it is to put on that
Starting point is 00:15:56 uniform where maybe the guys in the past are so talented they've been babyed and coddled and playing the high profile it's just it's a step for them yeah they've been playing these high profile summer league teams get all the swag you know for four or five years in high school for these guys man it is they are appreciating what it means to put on that Kentucky jersey yeah i've mentioned how like in the past not that they didn't appreciate being here or you know i'm not trying to change the narrative how it was for the last 15 years but Kentucky was just a step on their ladder and they were happy to be on that step for a year, but they got here thinking NBA,
Starting point is 00:16:29 left here thinking NBA. It's just not the case with these. And a lot of times they had a better time here than they thought they would. You know what I mean? I think a lot of them ended up enjoying it more than they ever thought they would. But for these guys, you can just see them appreciating.
Starting point is 00:16:42 You know, last night we had six guys in double figures and one of them was not Jackson Robinson. Yeah. He is actually one of the ones who didn't score double figures. So, I mean, really, you can't help but be excited. and I feel like these are just going to be steps and really watching a team that I think is going to be really, really fun to get behind.
Starting point is 00:17:01 If you think the same thing, or what do you think of the game if you went? 859-280-2287? Where are you all from? Richmond. Richmond, Paducah, and a former KS. Bar and boy, Michael. All right here in the morning. We will take a break and be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio.

Starting point is 00:18:15 And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations. with so many incredible guests. I'm talking. Trip Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it.
Starting point is 00:18:36 And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross. Because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Starting point is 00:18:51 Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back.
Starting point is 00:19:27 Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levant this plant to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life.
Starting point is 00:20:00 Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer them? On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness. athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going from the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't.
Starting point is 00:20:33 Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel like you don't feel like. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeki. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile. that means the world to me, and that's what motivates me to win more gold medals.
Starting point is 00:20:55 At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
Starting point is 00:21:23 It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app,
Starting point is 00:21:45 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I've never heard this song. This is clearly Willie, what's it called? Vote them out. Vote them out. I've never heard this. I haven't either. Do you know Willie has something like 113 albums?
Starting point is 00:22:09 That's crazy. Puts one out every week. No, I mean, I'm serious. He puts out, I think I heard that on Willie's Roadhouse the other day. They were like, my dad, because Willie's daughter's on there, no offense to her. I don't enjoy listening to her on Willie's Roadhouse. Not her music. Just her.
Starting point is 00:22:24 her DJ. But she was talking about her dad, and she was like, my dad's 100 and something album is coming out next week. Is he got high and forget he made an album? I don't know. I think he just Shane, I just think he's like hanging out and he's like, let's move an album. We got a few hours. Why not? Yeah. One for every year. Good for him. 90 years old and still kicking. 859-28027. One person writes, Matt, is it still a law that you can't serve alcohol before the polls clubs? That used to be a law, but I think they changed it a few years ago. Used to be. like you couldn't buy alcohol from today until like 6 o'clock when the polls club was about. I think that's changed.
Starting point is 00:22:59 I think now you can't. Was that a just a Kentucky law or was that in a nationwide? It was a Kentucky law. I think they were worried about bootlegging, you know, and getting hammered before he what did you say? Indiana had the same law. Okay. Yeah, I think, you know, my mom ran for office once.
Starting point is 00:23:17 Have I ever told you that, I mean, she ran a few times, but the first time. So she ran in 1987 and she lost by 57 votes. and then she ran in 1993 and she won by tons and then kept the job until she retired a few years ago. But in 1987, a man came up to her in, I want to say it was in like RJ and said and had like a bottle of whiskey. Okay. And was probably a little drunk and said, I voted against you today four times, blank. What? True story.
Starting point is 00:23:54 said that to her. That's when she knew maybe it wasn't going to work out for. Yeah, they're passionate. So, you know, things can happen on election. So in RJ, you can vote four times? Well, I think, you know, in the mountains, it used to be. I don't think it's as much like this anymore. But it used to be kind of whoever got that machine.
Starting point is 00:24:15 There's a famous mountain politician whose name a lot of people in the state would know. I'm not going to say who it. But the allegation was, was that they'd wait to see the totals, and then they'd see how many they needed, and then fix the dial. Magically, they would. They're just a little knob in the back. They would be like, well, because you remember those old machines were like, you press the lever, and it would like, it was like old school, and I think they'd just keep pressing the lever a few times. But I think most of that's gone now.
Starting point is 00:24:44 That guy that voted four times. That's why we don't have stickers anymore. He took all the stickers. I want to go down to RJ. There's stuff going down in RJ. No, you don't. Not at night. You better know somebody. buddy. 859-2802-2-87. One person writes, Matt, the thing I like about the team, they just go about their business. They miss a shot, they get to keep playing. They make a turnover, they get to keep playing.
Starting point is 00:25:06 Last night was the sloppiest of the three games, but Pope didn't just pull people. He let them play through their mistakes. That's something to be said about that. Yeah, you know, these guys had never played together until April. They get on campus in April and May. And so had, you know, they're such a good passing team. You know, they're looking for each other. Amari Williams is going to be one of our team leaders in assist.
Starting point is 00:25:26 The guy is amazing with what he can do in the high post. So it will be just a fun team to watch all season. Yeah, this goes back to the exhibition. But when they went two for 11 from three in the first half, Pope said afterwards, like, yeah, it happens. It wasn't like, you don't want that to happen. But he's like, when you play the way we do, you're going to have stretches where you go two for 11.
Starting point is 00:25:44 We're just looking forward to the next shot. It's just like such a positive outlook, even when they're in a funk. They are, they, he is relentlessly positive. It feels like, and it seems to work. And I'm telling you, when these dudes are open, I just feel like it's going in. How many guys, when they're open, you're like it's in? Oh, wow. I'm definitely that way.
Starting point is 00:26:03 I'm definitely that way for Brea. I'm definitely that way for Oway. I'm definitely that way for Jackson Robinson. I'm getting that way. Well, Lamont Butler, for the most part, unless it's a layup. My man missed two layups. One was a dunk. One was a dunk.
Starting point is 00:26:22 He jumped a little early on the dunk. I like that right after that, Marry Williams and Ottega O'A both had breakaway dunks and kind of looked at him like, that's how you finished. Yeah. I love the back-to-back dunks in the first half. Love you, Marri Williams. Just take, just, you know, I need to dribble from the top of the key every time. He was filled himself. I mean, you know, five turnover.
Starting point is 00:26:41 When we have 11 turnovers, he had five of them or something? Like, like, you know, just. As good as a passer is, he gambles a lot, too. Yeah. He tries to make the tough pass, and one of them ended in the eruption zone. I think you're just going to have that balance. I like the key, and I think he's really good. I think he's really good.
Starting point is 00:26:54 But, you know, when you can only dribble with your left hand, maybe don't try to cross people up at the front of the court, but otherwise, very little sloppiness. It's my favorite player you're talking about. Be careful. Is he your favorite? Well, I claimed him a month ago, but I've stamped it after seeing two exhibitions in one game. Everybody else can pick somebody else.
Starting point is 00:27:11 Jackson Robinson is my favorite, but I will say, Oway. He's mine. You like, oh, you want to take Oway? Dude, he does everything. Just, you know, defense, steals, deflections, rebounds, drive to the, But who's the last guy we've had that could drive to the basket like that, take contact and finish? It's been a while. When we've talked to, there's not a lot of guys that are good at.
Starting point is 00:27:32 To me, Bogan's and Crawford were the two best at that ability to take a hit and finish. O.A's kind of like that. You're right. Having been there last night, however many people were in his fan club before the game started, when the game ended, it was twice as many. You heard so many, always my favorite. You're doing the rapid reaction talking to people. who they like there is a lot of new
Starting point is 00:27:54 otago away fans after last night my mom said she won two thirds of the precinct she lost by less than half of one percent two weeks after larry had a heart attack that's right larry had a heart attack right before the election really yeah so she was so she really didn't get to campaign the last couple weeks but
Starting point is 00:28:10 the next time crushed it crushed everybody that's right bill hayes who's up next danny Danny how are you Danny hey guys I'm doing well on the day I'm not going to try to be divisive on this day. But my buddies and I were talking last night during the game, and the definition of a win-win,
Starting point is 00:28:30 we were kind of bantering about how many games you think Pope would win with the Arkansas lineup, how many games you think Cal would win with this Kentucky lineup? We kind of put the over-under-it-12 games for Cal here, and then Pope wouldn't be a successful there with the lineup that Cal has. I think that's a very fair point. I think this roster, Cal would not be good with. this roster. But then again, Pope probably wouldn't be good with the roster that Arkansas has.
Starting point is 00:28:57 I mean, I do think they both have rosters fit Drew to what they do, right? I mean, you give Pope a bunch of guys that can't shoot and go to the basket. That's not going to be good for him. And Cal has already shown that given a bunch of shooters, he ain't going to let him do it anyway, although he did more last year, to his credit. But yes, I think they got the right lineups for their team. Oh, definitely. They're both better off where they are. I mean, if you gave Pope, the other one, just because he's a better in-game coach. But, you know, Cal, Pope can't build the roster that Cal has been able to build for so many years. They both have a better skill in all this.
Starting point is 00:29:31 The all-time, if you switch the rosters, the coaches would have been better, is the Zion team would have been better with Cal. And as much as we love, the Tyler, Hero, PJ, Washington, Richards, that team would probably been better with Kay. I think if you flip those two teams, both of those teams would have been better. if you did it. Yeah, that season, in that same way, the rosters had magically switched in the middle of year. I think they both ended up with each other's roster somehow, and that was the year.
Starting point is 00:30:02 If they had split rosters, I think those two teams played for the national championship. They ended up both losing on the same day. Outer late 8 if you remember. 859-2802287. We are here at KS. Bar and Grill, open up at 11. Come see us. We're going to take a break. Beautiful day.
Starting point is 00:30:18 Could not ask for better weather on election. today. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. So first of all, how about Corey Price? That's awesome. Coming through with the newspaper
Starting point is 00:30:37 in 1993, when my mom was elected Commonwealth Attorney, she joined two other women as the first female Commonwealth attorneys in the history of Kentucky, one of which is Anna Deskins, Melbourne. I think I told you we were at lunch one day the other day and ran into her. Parsons, right? Yes, at Carson's, my mom beat Bill Hayes.
Starting point is 00:31:01 And look at my mom in 1993 right there. Doing it. How great is that? You're a very proud little son right now. No, I mean, look, 1990. Think about 1993, 1993, opposed to woman had never been elected to two of the three women, one in the mountains of eastern Kentucky. right my mom was in bell county and anna deskins melvin was in paintsful and they went in one how cool is that very cool very cool makes me so yes i am proud of it 85928027 the women won as well last night the women came out also pounded them by the way absolutely destroyed south carolina upstate one of my favorite names for a school i used to always say they should also have south carolina down yonder but south carolina upstate beat them look great yeah i've watched as much as i could here at the bar during pregame and I didn't get to see the second half doesn't look like I
Starting point is 00:31:54 needed to but they almost got 100 hit 98 uh clara clara i got to figure out which is which there's a clarke yeah she had 22 points george amore she's she is what she is she looks so good i mean as much confidence as i have in the men's team i'm right there with the women's and i'm going to go home and watch the replay of what i missed if if there been any other circumstances than a double header last night my butt would have been a historic memorial car they play Thursday By the way, they are totally Shannon calling it historic Memorial Colise. As they should. You got to lean into it.
Starting point is 00:32:25 Which means I'm happy for them, but they stole that from Historic Davis Arena. Let's be honest. They are now only calling it Historic Memorial Coliseum. Even Kenny Brooks had a shirt on that said historic Memorial Colise. Listen, the state of Kentucky is big enough to have two historic arenas, okay? One's in a little. They should show some respect for historic Davis Arena, which was their first. Which was?
Starting point is 00:32:46 I think they were there first. But this was a kitchen warehouse before it became historic Davis Arena. But nevertheless. There's just a little bit of difference between Memorial Coliseum and Historic Davis Stadium now. Excuse me. Yes, Cliff Hagen and Cottonash and Pat Riley played at Historic Memorial Coliseum. But oh, excuse me, John Sina, Brock Lesner, Shannon the dude. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:33:12 Thank you. Cash flow. Cash flow. How many people that played in Memorial have gone on to be in a Silver The Sallone's sitcom called Tulsa King. Probably none. Probably none. C.M. Punk.
Starting point is 00:33:24 Cody Rhodes. Those, yeah, those other guys are on it. Rock Lesnarred. Randy Orton. Michael Bennett. Hollywood. Haley J. Michael Bennett.
Starting point is 00:33:33 Rust and peace. Yes. Kenny Brooks got a bourbon barrel head last night too. Which Barnhart greeted both coaches to commemorating. It would have been bad if they lost those games. Those would have been. And then they had the bourbon barrel just sitting there. These two folks are from EKU.
Starting point is 00:33:50 The young woman is on the EKU dance team. And her dad said to tell them hello. And we're going to say their dad, they need to stop pounding so many beers. It's election day. And they need to be careful before we keep going. Yeah, the dad said they're here. We'll give them a hard time. So we immediately ordered up shots and beers for them.
Starting point is 00:34:08 The colonels had a big win last night. Almost got 100 points. They did. By the way, around college basketball real quick, only two or three big losses. Only two or three upset losses. Oh, thank you. These are like historic game tickets there. Two or three big losses.
Starting point is 00:34:25 You had South Carolina loses to North Florida. Bad for the SEC. It is bad. Texas A&M loses to Central Florida. Another bad loss for the SEC. And then Texas kind of gets handled by Ohio State, who we play in New York, and Missouri loses to Memphis.
Starting point is 00:34:42 So the only power for conference schools in the country to lose four of them, and it was all our SEC schools. Texas and Texas and Indiana didn't surprise me because I said yesterday, they're supposed to be two of the top teams of the SEC, then right out of the gate, they get waxed. What happened to Baylor last night? They got destroyed. They lost by like 40.
Starting point is 00:35:02 I mean, I thought that would be close. Yeah, our pick of the day. Tough start. Fade it. Gugza might be a problem. I watched that whole game. They destroyed them, and they looked so good. However, at the end of the game, did you see Mark Few's son check in?
Starting point is 00:35:20 No. VJ. Edgecombe, the five-star, dunked on him so hard. I don't think Mark Few can bring his son to him anymore. I don't know if he's a walk-on or if he earned that spot, but they put him in in mop-up minutes. And I don't know if Edgecombe sought him out, but it was a murder at the rim. Interesting. On Mark Fuse, boy, you got to look up the highlight.
Starting point is 00:35:38 Well, I mean, that Gonzaga team might be pretty good. I mean, to beat Baylor by 40. With their Nimhards and the Hickmans. How are they still in school? Who's next, Shant? Let's go to Bluegrass. Bluegrass. How are you?
Starting point is 00:35:51 Oh, boy, we're excited up this way, Matt. Good. When we were talking about the connective tissue, you heard Pope talk about that. I just assumed that with the offense. Oh, nice to see the defense working together. Wasn't that nice? Yeah. Are you surprised how good the defense has been, Bluegrass?
Starting point is 00:36:10 Really surprised. Really surprised. And then on the other end, when they have to play defense, if you're going to fight over those screens and keep those threes from flying, then the lane is wide open. Oh, what a clarity I had. Oh, my goodness. And I can't get enough of post. Like, I listened to him on the TV interview. I switched over to eye heart and listened to him.
Starting point is 00:36:32 I mean, I listen to, I mean, geez, though. That guy's just smart. The way he just breaks down the game, I can't get enough, man. Well, I'm with you. It's nice. It's cool to hear. I appreciate the call on the post game. He talks basketball.
Starting point is 00:36:46 He doesn't just say like he talks basketball. He talks about the plays they run. He talks about how they, I mean, the Tom Leach interviews are actually really informative. And, you know, Tom Leach has always tried, but Mark Pope answers the questions and they're interesting. And our defense is good. Yeah. Well, actually, they actually have taught defense. You know, you've heard Cal say this time of year, we haven't even put any defensive sets in yet.
Starting point is 00:37:11 We won't do that until December. Haven't worked on it yet. Haven't worked on it yet. They only give us so many days. Well, they've worked on it for ours. I mean, I'm impressed with how many dudes can really guard the ball, Drew, on this team. They got a lot of guys who can stay in front of their man. Yeah, and the O-Way Butler combo, that's a nasty defensive back court.
Starting point is 00:37:33 They each had three stills last night. I think at the end of the year, Butler is going to be chasing the school record for a season. But O'way, the way he jumped at a passing lane, end to end and turned, you know, a steal into two points right away. I think we're going to be seeing a lot of that from those two. I will say, I said this on the post game show. I messed up saying to Mario during Pro Day that I didn't think Almanor was, I mean, I just didn't know if he was a great player. And now every, every time he scores, Mario sends me a text. Like every single point he scores, Mario's like, there's your boy. There's your boy. There's your boy. And he had 11 last night.
Starting point is 00:38:11 In 13 minutes. I know. He was very efficient. I said this after one of the exhibition games. He's a lot better than I thought, a better shooter than I thought. Yeah. My only worry with him is quickness, but he's doing pretty good. In that corner three, I think every time he's been open, he's made it this year.
Starting point is 00:38:27 That's his shot. Yeah. He's confident in that, too, with the quick trigger. I mean, that's a guy comfortable taking that. And as we've seen through two exhibitions in this game, he is taking it. He makes it. He makes it. He makes it.
Starting point is 00:38:36 Who's up next? Jeremy. Jeremy. Jeremy. Go ahead, Jeremy. Jeremy. I need valid to help. And this is going to sound like a joke, but I promised it the real question.
Starting point is 00:38:48 I'm outside my polling place. Okay. And having a question on Amendment 1. Okay. Section 3. Yeah, so you're reading the part. I've gotten this a lot. It's the part that says something about idiots, right?
Starting point is 00:39:02 Yeah, is that a legal definition? Yeah. So here's the thing. That goes back 200 some years, basically, keeping. I don't know. why they used that language 200 years ago about it. I would have thought when they were going to amend Amendment 1, they'd go ahead to amend that part as well.
Starting point is 00:39:21 But it's not new language. It's just they're giving you what the whole amendment says, and that is part of the amendment. So I would say to you, whatever you decide to vote on that, I wouldn't make that part C or whatever it is. I wouldn't make that have an effect, because that's always been in the Constitution. Gotcha. Does that answer your question?
Starting point is 00:39:45 They're not adding that language so they can in the future ban people they don't think are smart. That language has always been there. They probably should have used this as an opportunity to change it. But they did not. Whatever you decide to do on that, I don't think that should really affect it. That's what I figured. Thank you for the help, sir. No problem.
Starting point is 00:40:08 There you go. See, we're here answering your amendment questions. It is weird, though, that there's a part of our Constitution that talks about idiots. If you're going to amend it, why don't just take that out? Feels like they should. I mean, I'm, you know, feels like that's what amendments are for. Let's go ahead and get rid of this part where we say. But anyway, that's the amendment, I will say this about our folks in Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:40:33 I've had more of you ask me about the language of these. That gives me some hope that folks are reading it. Want to get it right? And care and want to get it right? Like the amount of people who've written me and saying, okay, amendment two, tell me exactly what it's saying. And then that's encouraging, right? Well, that's why I asked you yesterday.
Starting point is 00:40:51 I want to make sure, are you trying to prohibit it? Are you trying to allow it? How is it worded to knowing how I'm going to vote? No, if you don't want money to go to private schools. Yes, if you'd like to give the, that's the basics of it. In reading in my research this morning, it felt like they tried to make number one as confused. confusing as possible. Oh, no doubt. I had to read it like five times.
Starting point is 00:41:12 You want to hear one that's confusing. There's one in Ohio that's about redistricting that I have to read it five times and I'm still not sure what's but what side is what. And they do that on purpose. I think they're trying to confuse you so that people don't really know what they're voting on. Starting point is 00:46:37 Great atmosphere in here before the game. game as well. Nice to see everybody kind of getting pumped, getting ready for this season. I really like it. Some questions coming in on the text machine. All right. Let's go. One person writes, Matt, why are you going to a movie tonight? Do you really care this much about who wins? Yeah, I care, but the reason I go, you know, I don't like waiting. The waiting is the hardest part. Said Tom Petty.
Starting point is 00:47:05 Yeah, that's Tom Petty. Like whoever wins, like I'm going to get up tomorrow and do this. show and it'll like life goes on the people who tell you the world is going to end that's just not true yeah like i came in in 2016 and i did the show came in in 2020 and did the show we'll do the same thing tomorrow it's just i don't like the waiting it's the same thing the 30 minutes before a final four game start when my team is playing i don't like that i don't like the nerves once once it starts whether we win or lose it's fine i just don't like the waiting right it's right it's right and I can't describe it. That waiting is awful.
Starting point is 00:47:43 And there's a chance it could drag out a day or two. It could be even worse on you. No, I think we'll know. I think we will know. I mean, they will not call the election tonight, but I think by the time we get up tomorrow morning, we're going to have a pretty good idea who's won. Not certain, but probably.
Starting point is 00:48:00 It was clear when we came in 2020, even though they didn't call it until like Saturday. It was clear Biden had warned. I think it's going to be like that tomorrow. If it's not, then it's not. But the waiting, I just hate the way. I can't imagine, can you imagine being one of those two people? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:19 And you just have to sit there all day. Yeah. What movie you're going to see, though? What's the distracting? There's a few choices. You got Conclave. Do you know that movie? Never heard of it.
Starting point is 00:48:30 That's about like all the bishops that get, you know how the, when a pope dies? Yeah. The bishops get together and they choose the pope. It's a movie about. like that process. Because there's all this like backstabbing and intrigue and all that. Then they do white smoke out of the chimney or something when they put on. I think that's right.
Starting point is 00:48:47 I think they do. Then the movie Saturday Night, which was about the first cast of Saturday Night Live. And then there's a movie called Anora, which is like supposed to be the best movie, like going to win the Oscar for Best Picture. So those are my three choices. I'm not sure which one I'm going to pick.
Starting point is 00:49:02 Saturday Night Live movie. That sounds like a good one. Well, I know that's the one you would pick. Yeah. But the other two are like supposed to be two of the best movies of the year. You're just not interested in that? No, I'm going with Saturday Night Live. You don't like things that are good.
Starting point is 00:49:12 Yeah, just. You would go, let me ask you a serious question. All right. It's those three or a chance to go watch Elf again. What are you doing? Well, the Sinat Live movie, I think I would definitely want to go see that one. So you would pick that over Elf again? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:25 But you really like Elf would be second. Over Nora and. Anora. A Nora. What if Elf and you get a commemorative popcorn? Oh. And I get a little elf-stuffed doll, maybe as you leave? I love that movie.
Starting point is 00:49:40 I know you do. You bring it up every year. Shannon, he loves elf so much. And I can see why. It's almost like you are elf. I think the elf musicals come into the opera house. Elf musical.
Starting point is 00:49:51 I'm on. I may go down and see it. They're doing an elf musical. I think so. Is Wolf Farrell in it? You're going to go to the elf musical. If I can get tickets. I bet you can.
Starting point is 00:50:01 I bet you'll be able to find a way to the elf musical. You want to go with me? No, I don't. can get credentialed. Elf musical is going to Lexington Children's Theater. Elxington Children's Theater. And you're going to go without children. Well, you know.
Starting point is 00:50:18 I think it would be really enjoyable. It's not the Opera House as the Children's Theater? That's where I mean, the Opera House might have an adult's version, but I'm looking at one at the children's theater. I think you definitely should go to Elf at the Children's Theater, just you. I bet you could get a role in Elf the musical if you applied yourself. I could see you playing Elf. we're being really honest.
Starting point is 00:50:39 You could be the tad or elf. You know, they've got like deleted scenes and behind the scenes stuff. Deleted scenes? Yeah. You like to watch the elf deleted scenes? I absolutely do, yeah. Okay. There's one when they play hockey and he's knocking everybody all the little elves off the ice.
Starting point is 00:50:55 And they didn't make it to the movie. I wonder why. Okay. Well, all right. You were absolutely ridiculous. What did you think about the Louisville basketball crowd last night? Didn't look great. I've been surprised by the.
Starting point is 00:51:08 that. Me too. To their version of madness, whatever they call it, card night, whatever it is. You know, he went out, and to give him credit, I feel like he's doing what he needs to be doing. It was a little corny going around campus and begging people, but you know what? Man's trying, and then no one showed up for that. Exhibition game didn't have a good turnout.
Starting point is 00:51:27 Last night I expected better. That's why I wonder, is Louisville just permanently broken? Will they ever have? I mean, there was nobody. Like, they were taken up for, like, I made a tweet about it, and it was not. I promise you Louisville fans. I actually was not trolling. I don't understand why you're not there.
Starting point is 00:51:44 There was a time you all had the third best attendance in college basketball behind Kentucky and Syracuse. And now you don't go. That was the first game. The upper level was empty. Against a Kentucky school. Yeah. I mean, I don't know if you saw his interview after the game,
Starting point is 00:52:03 but he was all but begging people to come to the Tennessee game set. You know, they played Tennessee Saturday. And he was like, you know, Josh Hurd, the AD told me this place was going to be rocking and packed. Don't make Josh Hurd a liar. But he was like, essentially, there was in his voice a little bit like, where are you people? Is it still just the Kenny hangover? I guess. But like, I would have thought that would have made them more likely to go.
Starting point is 00:52:32 Yeah. They were so bad. and now they've brought in this guy who I don't know if he's going to be great but he seems like he's doing a good job they won by a lot like they're they look like they're a lot better and you can like they didn't and people go well it's downtown man it's a money night but it's always downtown and it's always a Monday night like it's not like this is different than in other years that and you throw in they're having these big football games with Brom who they don't go to that people are like well there's a concert across town or my kids kids got this. It's like, what? They literally were like the St. James Art Fair, which I do wonder, is that fan base like, are they just broken? I think it's permanent.
Starting point is 00:53:17 I mean, you just. It really is. It would be sad to me if they're just broken. Football, you just beat Clemson at Clemson. Yeah. I mean, you should be very excited about your football program and go support them. I was really, really surprised to see that crowd last night. And then I was even more surprised to see the fans online taking up for that being the amount of people there.
Starting point is 00:53:39 Like if we had had that crowd last night, I'd have been like, what is going on? Yeah. Why aren't you all at this game? Because he seems to be a guy like Pope. He's very positive, very energetic. He seems very similar to Pope. Yeah. In a lot of ways.
Starting point is 00:53:56 So, I mean, I bet they will get a good. I can say that. What do you have to talk about? I can say that. You are little. That's why I can say it. We'll take a break. Come back.
