Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones. Welcome back hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, here at KS. Barn Grill, just open we have Wings Day dollar wings got some folks in here where are you guys from at the bar right here in lexington all right good nice to see you all um the uh you were just telling me
Starting point is 00:04:15 the person that got in before tony delke what was his name again well i'm reading uh you know big blue history with all the stats they have all this stuff so they have the full list and in 2001 during the auburn game looks like burgess carey was honored who is Burgess Carey? The second ever All-American at Kentucky. See, I've never heard of Burgess Carey. He played in 1926, a little before our time. I will say this.
Starting point is 00:04:41 There was a little period of time where we got a little, I don't know, we got a little loose with our standards. You were around back then. Why did we let all those people in for a while? Well, I'm going to say something that it's not earth-shattering, but a lot of the guys were just buddies and former teammates of C.M. Newton. And so a lot of the jerseys up there are guys that he played with in that era. And they got a lot.
Starting point is 00:05:07 It's pretty full up there. So. But what era are we talking about? 95 to 2002 looks like we were pretty busy honoring people. Who all did we honor in 95 to 2002? Let's see. How about says Kenny Walker? Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:21 That's good. Cal Macy, Rick Robey, Jack Givens, Kevin Grevy. Okay, okay. Pat Riley, Vernon Hatton, Johnny Cox, Bob Burrow. This is all according to this table I'm looking at. I assume it's accurate. Look before that era. Yeah, I'm okay with all those names.
Starting point is 00:05:40 It's the names before. I think you're right, the names before that. We're talking like early 90s, late 80s, early 90s. And it's such a good tradition. We just saw we've done it three times since 2001. But that's what I don't want. I feel like the modern guys are kind of, They're sort of, the standard isn't the same.
Starting point is 00:05:58 There's no way. There's, like, even the Patino guys, Tony Delk should not be, Tony Delk and Mashburn shouldn't be the only ones, right? If you're going to. And they are, and they're probably going to be the only ones. They'll probably, like the other one would be, what would be next? Antoine Walker probably. Probably.
Starting point is 00:06:14 And they probably won't do it. The rules were written where if you leave early, you weren't in it, you were ineligible at that time. Like Mercer and Walker, those guys were not eligible. Yeah, that's ridiculous. You got to change that too. Who's up next, Shannon? All right.
Starting point is 00:06:26 Let's go to Reese. Reese. How are you, Reese? I'm doing good. It's November 6th. So naturally, I want to talk about our national championship chances. Okay. And I think with BYU last year, I wanted to make this point in the summer, but we're a better team than BYU on offense and on defense.
Starting point is 00:06:46 Correct. And Ken Palm, BYU ranked in offense number 14 and defense number 60. I think a good goal for our team not to win. the national championship, but to get in that top 35, top 35, I think it's very feasible. Right now, we're 23rd in offense and like 57th in defense. I don't think those numbers are very good right now because we've only played three games together. But I feel like that's a feasible goal.
Starting point is 00:07:11 Our defense is going to, so our Kim, Palm rating is going to be interesting this year because, and I appreciate the call, because of how we play, Ryan, our defensive efficiency is probably not going to be great because we're. we're going to play a style where we're going to give away a lot of points. But if we score a lot of points, it'll be like, Kim Palm is very useful, but I wonder how useful it is with this style, because we're going to give up a lot of points. I mean, if we're 57th in defense, I feel like we played pretty good defense against Wright State. We only let them score 62. So for 57th in defense, I don't really know how much that's going to be helping.
Starting point is 00:07:50 I'll be honest, for the first 30 minutes of the game, we kind of locked them up. But with about 10 minutes left kind of slacked off and right state went on kind of a run there where they put up a lot of points but when we were playing our our best defense we were kind of locking those guys down yeah and with ken palm this early i don't mean we talked about this today i don't know how they do anything when there's such a small sample size all these new teams but look at it last year like the caller was noting b yu was ranked ahead of kentucky at the end of the year i mean their offensive rating was much higher than their defenses but they were still around 50th defensively yeah our defensive rating was what was it last year like 150th i mean it wasn't
Starting point is 00:08:24 in the top 100. It was not. It was not good at all. They released the bracket projection, Ryan, for the college football playoff yesterday. They have Oregon is the one, Georgia the two, Miami the three, then BYU, four SEC teams, four Big Ten teams, all the other conferences just get one. I think this is just how it's going to be. And I think the, if you're in the SEC, you can kind of figure four teams in the playoff most years is going to be the way the way it ends up going. Do you think out of those four SEC teams are going to be any movement? Yeah, I mean, I think right now they've got Georgia, Texas, Alabama, and Tennessee. I think if Texas A&M beats Texas, they would pass them, right?
Starting point is 00:09:12 LSU only has one loss. So if LSU were to beat Alabama, I think they would then go. Tennessee is in a pretty good place. I mean, Tennessee plays Georgia. so Tennessee could end up losing that Georgia game, but there are, I mean, if you've got LSU, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Texas, Texas, A&M, it's almost like those are almost three playoff games, Drew, to get in the playoff. It's almost like a playoff for a playoff.
Starting point is 00:09:35 Yep, and I didn't have strong thoughts about the rankings last night, but just seeing that projected bracket, I love the new format. Anyone who hates the 12-team format get out here. Like you have Tennessee playing Indiana, winter goes to Oregon. What was it, like Penn State, Notre Dame? So let's look. These games would be on campuses. So you would have Boise State, go to Ohio State.
Starting point is 00:09:59 That would be cool to see if that running back, like how legit is he against, because he might win the Heisman. How legit is he? With the winner going to BYU of all points. Well, you wouldn't go to BYU. They were just playing a ball. Yeah, not that. Indiana plays at Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:10:16 Tennessee, who would you root for in that game? Oh, Indiana. Almost if I'd root for Indiana. You'd root for Indiana? Yeah, I guess I would too. Alabama and Texas. How about a playoff game that's Alabama and Texas? I mean, they already played, but let's say you've got that one.
Starting point is 00:10:31 That could be in Austin, right? Yes. Yeah, that could be a national championship game right there, and they're playing in the brackets. And then Notre Dame would go to Penn State. That'd be a great. I mean, just thinking about those atmospheres in December. When they go to Penn State and it's December 21st and it's cold and it's snowy,
Starting point is 00:10:49 and you put the Notre Dame runs out. Like that would be awesome, wouldn't it? Just those four home games you talked about. Ohio State, Tennessee, Penn State, and Texas. Those are four great environments to begin with. Now you make the playoff game, it's just going to double it. And what's interesting about the playoff is, like, because they're given the four conference winners buys, like BYU doesn't even feel like they should be in this,
Starting point is 00:11:17 and they get a buy, which goes back to the thing. said a long time ago the seed you want to be is the five the five seed is great look at ohio state open with boise state and then you play b yu you basically go to the semifinals by beating boise state and b yu i think there's a strong argument the five seed is the best seed you can get that's a perfect seed if you're ohio state you got a home game then you got a the next round you think about this would you rather play have to beat boise and b yu to go to the semi-fifference you or would you rather be one seed Oregon and have to beat Tennessee? Give me Boise State and BYUu every day.
Starting point is 00:11:56 I think I'd rather play Boise State and BYUu. It's two games, but they're going to be easier games probably. Yeah, I see your point. I'd probably still want to buy week at that point in the year, but it makes an easier path for teams that maybe don't deserve it. I think the five seed, and by the way, it was Chris Fowler said that Saturday, but just for the record, I said that a month ago. I think the five seed is where you want to be if you can't, you know, be the one.
Starting point is 00:12:19 Who's next? Jay Rock. Jay Rock. How are you? 859, 2807. Hey, what's going on, y'all? I'm sorry if I'm not at the top of my game this morning. I kind of feel like garbage.
Starting point is 00:12:31 But I got you, Joe. I'm surprised the call. We're trying. I got your joke, Tony. You're my guy, Matthew. I'm surprised none of the colleges are calling and asking why they ain't playing the Kentucky boys. and one thing you should bring back from old U.K. basketball, according to J-Roc, should be probation.
Starting point is 00:12:55 And then what is the three things you want Dr. Ryan Lemon to explain about the brain surgery before we leave? I appreciate the call. He brought all kinds of things right there. More people giving things they want to bring back from the 90s. The toilet flush. What do they mean by that? When we'd shoot a free throw, everybody would hold their hand up, and the ball would go through the the net, we'd all go, whoosh.
Starting point is 00:13:21 I remember that. I never heard it called the toilet flush. I've never heard it called the toilet flush, but we would be the, whoosh. It's called, and that's called a toilet flush. According to that one person. You put your hands up during a free throw and wait for it to go in, then you put your hands out. One person says, what about the Ryan Lemoned
Starting point is 00:13:36 halftime? We should definitely bring that back. Wild cat. Wild cat. Wild cat. We should bring that back. Honestly, Kentucky basketball changed for the negative when they stopped doing that. I mean, the timeline is the timeline is kind of there. Ryan Lemon shooting, Ryan Lemon having them shoot from half court was kind of awesome. People wouldn't leave their seat at halftime when Ron Lemon was the halftime show.
Starting point is 00:14:01 I have no comment. What do you mean you have no comment? I kind of messed up. You didn't mess up. You said squirt to the ceiling. Why is that bad? That was in the news. It was in the news.
Starting point is 00:14:11 Katina Powell said it. That guy looked at me like you've never heard that phrase before. Do you remember when Katina Powell said it? that. Okay, good. There's done the wrong with quoting a prostitute on a live microphone in front of 20,000 people. Come on. You did say it the day it happened, so it was a little fresh, I think.
Starting point is 00:14:29 You know, we can talk about it now. You know, Dwaym Peevy called me and he said, hey, we're not going to need you these last three home games. We have other stuff already set up. It's not because of what happened, but we had other stuff already set up. They had like the firefighter versus police officer basketball game. So he said it wasn't because of that. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:14:45 Well, because of that. We already had stuff already plans. We don't need you the last three games. Did you believe them? No, and then I never got a call the next year. They had stuff set up for the next several years. One person says, what about the guy on the stilts? Which is something I didn't even know what happened until we talked about it a few weeks ago.
Starting point is 00:15:00 I forgot about that guy. But didn't somebody say about what about dancing guy? They've been playing Moni, moni, and I feel like they should let him come back. I mean, there should be a rule. Please don't pick anyone up. He's at the games, and they're playing the music. He's just not getting that moment. Is he getting up and dancing at all?
Starting point is 00:15:17 I look for him. I've seen him in the concourse, but during mony-monmonic. I think we should. I think we should do that. What's next? Jimmy. Jimmy. Go ahead, Jimmy.
Starting point is 00:15:27 Hey, Matt. I'm going to kind of take a left-hand turn here. I'm talking about football. I'm going to the game in Texas. Is there an update on the start time yet? No, they'll decide that next Monday. So the Texas game is either, it will, it's, it's, it's, It's definitely night, right?
Starting point is 00:15:47 Between six and eight. So you can assume it's a night game, but it could be anywhere from six to eight o'clock. Okay, awesome, awesome. And one thing I'd love to see bring back back from the 90s, as far as UK basketball is concerned, and I know some people are probably split on this, the denim jerseys and shorts. Do you think they would sell? I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:16:11 You think they would sell well if they brought back the denim? Because it's not about the denim. It's what's in them. I think they would sell more today than they did in 90s. I think they would be a huge hit. I think that would go viral. I think it would be, if you're just looking at what would be a huge hit, I mean, like if I could find a denim hoodie.
Starting point is 00:16:29 It's coming back. Just get ready. You say that like you know. Do you know? It's coming back. Just get ready. That's all I'm saying. It's all I'm allowed to say.
Starting point is 00:16:38 Interesting. Do you think they do it for that? You don't do that a lot. Like what's, uh, they're just telling you it's coming back. You've been sworn to. secrecy or something? It seems like he's got some info, Shannon. Drew doesn't usually talk like this. I've been pro-denum even before Pope came back. I wanted the denim to come back under Cal.
Starting point is 00:16:55 When you say that, like this year? Probably. I could see them saving it for a reunion game or something, but it is in the works. It would be cool for the reunion game or the Calipari game. Yeah, I don't know when they're doing it, but I'm pretty confident. I don't think you do it for the Calgary game. The Cal Perry game has to be focused on. winning that game. I would do it from like, well, I would do it for like two or three games, right? Because you don't want to just bring it out for the first one or for like a huge one.
Starting point is 00:17:25 Would you play it one in the regular season and then bring it out at the SEC tournament? No. I would just do a regular season game. First of all, I would do the icicles this year too. We need the icicles. The icicles are cool. Well, we were on a path where they did the, I guess, 30 years for 92, 93 just a couple years ago. Yeah. the 96 next year let's just whatever they were wearing 30 years ago let's throw it on because that's something it was changing about every year tell me about stock to mortgage stock to mortgage you know uh it's football season right now and stock to mortgage is your great i forgot how that was worded something about football season i knew shannon when he started
Starting point is 00:18:02 and he didn't scramble to pull up the script i knew he wasn't going to do a good job i could just tell it was weird because you always scrambled usually drop your phone hit yourself in the face You just set back like you had it. I got it now. Okay. This will be a lot better. Well, because you're reading it. Yeah, this will be a lot better.
Starting point is 00:18:20 All right. If you're looking for a place to call home during football season, who was football season? It is football season. Working with Stockton Mortgage gives you the home field advantage. Oh, okay. That's what they did. All right.

Starting point is 00:20:04 that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?

We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back.
Starting point is 00:21:00 Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levan this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know.
Starting point is 00:21:28 Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you. you get your podcast. Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer them? On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness,
Starting point is 00:21:53 professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WMBA standout, Kate Martin, and rising hockey star, Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like. you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel on. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.
Starting point is 00:22:16 An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeki. The ability to show gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world, like, I can do anything. I can, like, I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports.
Starting point is 00:22:53 Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:23:24 Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at the KS Bar and Grill. It is Wings Day, Dollar Wings all day and night. Tomorrow the Bengals play the Ravens at 8 o'clock. We got a Bengals watch party. I'm going to come out here and watch the Bengals tomorrow night. Rude them on. They struggled this year, but I'm feeling like if they can win tomorrow night, they kind of get back on track.
Starting point is 00:23:47 What are they now? Four and five. Is that the record? Four and four and four and four. Four and four. Four and five. I think they're four and five. Okay. Well, then they're four and five. So we went one more. Then it's five and five. Look out. And the last time I checked that was even. So that would be, that would be good. The, the FC's tough. The NFC, nobody's good except Detroit. But Zadarius just got traded to Detroit, so Zadarius is on a Super Bowl contender again. One of the best teams going, yeah, right now. The Bengals, what, Burl threw five touchdowns last weekend, so maybe they finally found themselves a little bit. The Titans added Mike Edwards today, so pray for Mike Edwards. Yeah. Mike Gundy. Yeah, your friend.
Starting point is 00:24:31 Mike Gundy, your guy. He's a man, and I'm just going to say he's your guy. He apologized. Did you see what he apologized for? No. He, he, he, he, he, he apologized because he said that most of the people that were complaining about the fact he was 0 and 6 in conference were losers. He said, they point the finger and blame other people. You see it happen in everyday life.
Starting point is 00:24:58 In most cases, the people that are negative in voicing their opinion are ones that can't even pay their own bills. They can't take care of themselves. They can't take care of their own family. They don't even have a job. but they think they can speak out and complain because it makes them feel better, but then they go to bed at night and they're the same failure they were before they said anything negative about anybody else. Wow. What a promo.
Starting point is 00:25:22 My goodness. I think he needs a PR person. So he said, in the DUI this summer, he's like, oh, sometimes you drink a few beers and drive around, you know. Yeah. So he's 0 and 6. He's 0 in conference. They're like 2 and 1 and 7 overall. and he comes out and goes, by the way, you guys are all failures and losers.
Starting point is 00:25:44 He apologized, though, and said, his apology said, I'm apologized to those who I offended. My intent was not to offend any of our fans that have supported this program. What was your intent? Well, exactly. I like he calls everybody losers, but he's 0 and 6. I know. He's the one that is, by definition, a loser.
Starting point is 00:26:01 They are losing all of their games. But I just, I mean, I love coming out and going, whoa, that's loud. I love coming out and going, you're a failure, all of you. I don't understand you're the head coach, and if you turn it around, you start, you want those fans and support you. But by saying something like that, you're just pushing them away. What was it? Billy Napier said something about the people in Florida fans that live in Central Florida or something,
Starting point is 00:26:25 and now they started winning and they're not coming back. Because you pushed them away a couple months ago. By his standards, I guess we are losers because we're not getting paid millions of dollars to coach a football team. Yeah. I do love that he goes, you can't even support. your family. That was like, I mean, it's a strong comment for somebody, you know, who's 0 and 6 in the thing. I will, I've never been a Mike Gundy fan. I think he's kind of a complete goober. But I will say this, once you start complaining about your fans, it is almost over.
Starting point is 00:26:58 Yeah. The moment you look at your fans and you say it is your fault, you are headed for defeat. Yeah. It's like you just are. Like those fans are your customers you are headed for defeat. Who's up next? Jamie. Jamie, go ahead, Jamie. Yes, I've got a question.
Starting point is 00:27:22 I enjoy your all's program. You all do an excellent job. Thank you. I'm big on tradition. I know that Trent Noah came out in high school, so you'll never leave hard on alive, brought tears to my eyes at Big Blue Madness. why do they play it before football players come out?
Starting point is 00:27:42 I don't like it. I'm with you. You're saying they shouldn't play it before football games? No, I don't mind. I just wonder why they picked that song. I don't really know. I mean, I have to tell you, I think we are pretty awful at everything that sets an atmosphere.
Starting point is 00:28:04 We pick the wrong songs. I mean, you'll never. believe Harlan alive is cool, but is that really what you want to play before you run out to the football game? I mean, this doesn't really, I love that song. I think it's beautiful, but it's like, I don't think that's a pregame football song, especially it just doesn't have the vibe. And I feel like Drew, I would encourage people to go to other stadiums and see kind of how bad we are at you know what I mean yeah I like it at football it kind of came natural like Grove Street where they played it one time and the crowd reacted well and now they do it where it goes
Starting point is 00:28:48 dark and it leads into something a little more just don't think it works do you I like it I like it I like it a lot and one of the baseball you do think it works that you'll never really play well it came kind of work I don't remember the first time they played it but I remember being there and the crowd really got into it and I was like oh they might have something there and the way they do it it's not the team doesn't run out to it they play it and then it goes dark and then I think Waka-Flocka comes on. And I think a baseball player, I like the addition of it. I wish we had a Western Kentucky song.
Starting point is 00:29:14 I don't know if you can do Paradise or something, but I enjoy it. I'm with Drew, and it started, it was, you know, after the bad floods they had in the mountains in eastern Kentucky, and they had the benefit concert and Patty Lovelace came and sang the song. It was the next home game. They played it. Nobody knew it was coming. And it was kind of a cool moment there.
Starting point is 00:29:33 And I think now they're just trying to capture it. Now it's like an intro into something bigger. Yeah, it is. They kind of, you know, now the lights, they can turn the lights off and it gets dark. I thought it was awesome with Trent. All right. And I love the song. I mean, I was playing you that song before you even knew what the song was.
Starting point is 00:29:49 Oh, yeah. Maybe I just don't know if it works in that environment. If you, here's the thing, if you go watch these other teams and you hear when they come out what it does from a noise perspective, I don't know that playing a slow song has the same. My question is, what is the Duma Walker? We are doing that every game every year. Yeah. It's terrible. It's terrible.
Starting point is 00:30:13 The moment we win, let's all go. I love Duma's Walker, again, is a song, but that is not a song for a football game. Like, it's just not. I love Slawburgers and a bottle of ski. I went to the six years of it after every game. I went to the place four weeks ago. It was great. I love it.
Starting point is 00:30:30 But like, not for this. Yeah. We've got to walka flaka was the perfect example. It happened. It's happened. And now it's kind of a thing. I just. The moment the game is over.
Starting point is 00:30:43 They play this. Yeah. Come on, UK. Just get a little better at the atmosphere. We'll be right back. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Starting point is 00:30:55 Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. That's really good. It's awesome. It really is. Like, I mean, she's good. Brad Paisley has a good version of it, too. And it mentions Pineville.
Starting point is 00:31:10 I just don't know if I would do it at the game. But it mentions Pineville, mentions Harlan. Is Harlan like the most Kentucky town? Yeah. Like, if you're saying, what is the most like? It goes right into that. If you're saying what's the most, it's either, first of all, if you're going to have the most, people are going to get mad about this,
Starting point is 00:31:31 and that's all right. But if it's, if you're going to have the most, I think it kind of needs to be in the mountains because our culture, no offense to Western Kentucky, but our culture is kind of mountain-based. Don't be swimming in our lakes. I like your lakes, I'm just saying. Then when you're thinking about what is the most like, what feels like Kentucky, I would think it's got to be Harlan, maybe Hazard. It's Harlan or Hazard.
Starting point is 00:31:58 That's the answer. Maybe Pacville. Pacville. But I think it's, I think you. You're probably looking at Harlan or Hazard that sort of best embodies what it means. You know what I mean? Yeah. Well, you know, the heart and soul of our state goes back to the coal mines of eastern Kentucky,
Starting point is 00:32:15 which centered in Harlan, Kentucky, you know? When I first moved here, Ira Combs, God rest his soul, he told me, he goes, you're going to learn. In Kentucky, you're either from Hazard or you're from this side of hazard or you're from that side of hazard. Well, he said that because he's from Hazard. But, I mean, it's, well, I mean, also remember, there was a time Harlan had, what was it? 50,000 people? Like, I mean, there's probably no town.
Starting point is 00:32:38 I mean, there was a time I want to say in like 1920 or 1930 or something where Harlan's population was bigger than Lexington's. Then they have like a Cadillac dealership or something in the town. I don't know about that. They had it in Ashland. There was a Cadillac dealership in Ashland. Yeah. Well, like I said, the center of the coal industry was in Harlan, Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:32:59 There's no doubt. All right. So forgive me. I'm going to answer one question because I like this. question. One person writes, Matt, you're the only Democrat my dad will listen to, including me. You should listen to your son. What do you think with Trump winning is the best thing that could happen and the worst?
Starting point is 00:33:21 Oh, that's a loaded question. All right. So I'll be do the worst first, so I end positively. All right. The thing I'm the most worried about, this is the one thing I'm the most, like, he'll have policies that I don't like, that's okay. We have disagreements. Life will go on. That happens with every president, policies you disagree with. Here's the thing that worries me and that I hope he doesn't do, because this is the thing that I think is hard for America to come back from. Our entire system
Starting point is 00:33:50 of government is based on separation of powers, right? The president has power, the judiciary has power, the legislature has power. There's been some talk around the people around Trump that if the Supreme Court comes and says, Trump, you can't do this, that he'll just say, I'm doing it anyway. What are you going to do about it? That would be hard to come back from him. So if he makes an order and the Supreme Court says, that's unconstitutional, and he goes, I don't care. I don't know how you come back from that. And that's what I, that is the one thing I'm working for 225 years, courts have struck down what government does and government always accepts it. They don't like it, but they accept it.
Starting point is 00:34:35 What if he doesn't? That worries me. That's the thing that for everything else in four years will be a new president. But that worries me. Now, what can he do well? There's a group of people out there that are working class who I think have been forgotten by the government for 75 years. They really like Trump. The Democrats' policies and Trump, they could come together and help. those people. They could. I thought he was going to do it last time. And he almost did, but they ended up just giving tax cuts to rich people. I'd love to see that happen because the people
Starting point is 00:35:14 who go out here and work every day deserve to have an easier life than they have. And there's this opportunity because he has a unique type of republicanism that kind of coincides with the unions. I hope they do that. That's my positive. So that's my worry. And then that's my positive. That was good. Did a good job with that. You folks can sit down. Just go ahead and pick your spot. 859-280-2287. Who's up next?
Starting point is 00:35:40 Gerald. Gerald. Go ahead, Gerald. Hey, man. I can't. Your phone's breaking up, Gerald. Are you on Bluetooth or something? No, I just don't know.
Starting point is 00:35:54 Yeah, I can't hear you. I'm sorry, sir. I appreciate the call. I can't, we can't hear you. I do have a question while I was talking about Trump. Yeah. Are there still criminal charges pending against him? Yeah, I'm sure he'll pardon himself from all of them,
Starting point is 00:36:08 but there's that one in New York he can't because it's a state charge. So I don't know what happens with that. So is there a chance he could still get arrested? I mean, in theory, but I don't know how that works. He'll pardon himself from the federal ones, but I don't know what happens with the state one, to be honest with him. Who's next? Let's go to Sam.
Starting point is 00:36:28 Sam, go ahead, Sam. Crutch. Crutch. It's funny how you talk about Hadard because I'm from Hatt. I'm not going to. But my question, but my question for you is, considering how we've been playing these last few games and considering the first half of that one game
Starting point is 00:36:49 and they made a couple of turnovers, how do you think we'll go up against Duke and Gonzaga and Arkansas as the season progresses? Well, I mean, we'll see. you know, Drew, I don't know. I mean, I think, first of all, I wouldn't put Arkansas in that same group yet. Oh, they're losing to Lipscomb tonight. Yeah, I mean, I think –
Starting point is 00:37:12 Libscom plus 15. David Lipscomb. I think the teams that are the best right now in college basketball that we play are going to be Alabama Duke and – I'll put Gonzagin there after watching them. They're the ones that I'm concerned. I'm not as concerned necessarily about Arkansas, although we've got to beat them because of the Cal Factor, but they're not going to be one of the best teams we play.
Starting point is 00:37:34 Yeah, my opinion of Gonzaga changed a little bit, watching them destroy Baylor. And they look very good. A lot of experience, a lot of names we know that feel like they've been there a long time going there. That one's going to be a lot tougher than I originally thought. Yes. Shadyrays. If you need sunglasses, where can you go get them? I would go to Shadyrays. Shaddyraise.com.
Starting point is 00:37:50 They got a Lexing store. They got a Louisville store. You can use the promo code KSR. They've got great guarantees. You got refunds. It's all kinds of stuff. It's Shady Rays. Premium polarized sunglasses at a price you can afford.

I was like, well, you can come back different days so that you don't always have to take them when they're the cheapest price. seven days a week if you want yeah I mean that's a lot of wings if you eat seven days week but they're so good you want to eat them seven days a week you think you could eat anything seven days a week and you wouldn't get tired of it Mexican food yes chocolate chip cookies maybe a little variety I want to get on the menu yeah I could eat Mexican for every meal
Starting point is 00:43:15 859-280 2287 Mario come up here really quick I want you to quickly tell I want you to quickly tell talk about what happened with you in Owen County couple days ago. So you went, I just sent you on a tour of the state where this is going to be Mario goes to the counties and you went to Owen County, right? Tell me what happened when you got there. It was incredible. I arrived at Owen County High School at first and I met the athletic director, T.J. Wesselman. He kind of welcomed me with open arms. I met the broadcasting in media class. It was very cool. Took some pictures with them. We even did a TikTok in the Janasium. And also we they gave me a swag bag.
Starting point is 00:44:01 When I walked in there, I got a swag bag, t-shirt, hoodie, hat, everything. And none of this was playing, by the way. We just randomly picked the place. Didn't they, like, have you have a thing up on the scoreboard? Matt, I walk into the gym, and there's a graphic created for, that says welcomes KSR by Own County High School on the scoreboard. And we had just, we had just figured it out this morning. Just figured it out.
Starting point is 00:44:23 I wasn't sure when I first came to the school. I was like, are they going to sneak me in? Like, I'm not sure. Like, what, what's, I don't know how the logistics of it was going to work, but it was awesome, man. And so they made you feel welcome. Very welcome, very welcome. Did you go to the suit store? I did.
Starting point is 00:44:38 I didn't do much shopping in the suit store, but I got a chance to meet Larry Tackett, and we talked about Joe B. Hall a little bit. That was a lot of fun. It was a lot more talking than me just actually shopping. And then what else did you see in Owen County? I went to Elk Creek, got a chance to shoot a shotgun, which is really cool for me. Did you ever shot a shotgun? I never did it. Never did.
Starting point is 00:45:00 I was nervous. The kickback? Yes, the kickback. But it was a good feeling once I got it done. So you did it kick back hard? Not as hard as I thought it was. So you think you might start hunting? Probably not.
Starting point is 00:45:14 Probably not. Maybe visit a shooting range every now and then. Okay. All right. When he was there, I texted him at like 7 p.m. Do you live there now? This was supposed to be a quick one hour trip. You stayed there a while.
Starting point is 00:45:25 All day for a while. You seemed to like it. I did, you know, I went to the Dollar General. Got a chance to see the Gatorade's at Dollar General. It's a lot of them, right? Yeah, yeah, it was kind of scattered throughout the... How was the Gatorade? It was good, you know, scattered throughout the store.
Starting point is 00:45:41 It got a chance to pick up a few on my way back, but cool experience from me. Well, good. So you went to the school, you went to a shooting range, you had all the Gatorade a man could drink. Did you eat? I went to Poole Hall. That was very fun. Very vintage vibe they got in there. I know you guys said that, you know, they used to smoke in that place.
Starting point is 00:46:00 Didn't smell like cigarettes or anything like that. Okay. But it was cool. It was a lot of kids in there playing pool. You know, I just... Did you challenge any of them? I didn't. I didn't want to...
Starting point is 00:46:10 The one to let them have their moment. Okay. So overall, how would you grade your Owen County trip? You know, Drew, you know I'm a big fan of Lebanon. Oh, yeah. You wear the shirt four days a week. I don't know. Owen County might be my new favorite.
Starting point is 00:46:22 Uh-oh. He loves hard. Owens these small towns and falls in love. All right, so in a couple weeks, we may send you to another one. If people want to have Mario visit their town, have you made your video yet? I'm working on a video. Video's coming up by the end of this week. All right, a little Mario meets Owen County.
Starting point is 00:46:39 Well, good. I'm glad you had a good time. Mario did too. I had a great time. All right, there you go. Mario visits the state as he will produce his Owen County video this week, Drew. I really wondered if he was coming home. That was supposed to be.
Starting point is 00:46:51 Just go check it out, take a few pictures. Come on home. He did everything. I'll tell you what, though. There was a little drama with Mario Monday night. I'm just telling you, don't mess with him. That's all I'm going to say. Did you mess with him?
Starting point is 00:47:04 You mess with all of us. That's right. I got frustrated, but it all worked itself out. I'm just telling you, you got to be careful. He's one of us now. That's right. Who's up next? Jacob.
Starting point is 00:47:15 Jacob. Jacob. Do well, Matt. How are you? Doing good. Good. Well, just to talk about the atmosphere and whatnot, the caller brought up for Coverfield and also Rupp Arena, I went to the Vanderbilt Texas football game a few weeks ago.
Starting point is 00:47:40 My dad's a big Texas fan. He grew up in Texas, and I had season tickets, and he would come to the U.K. games with me, so I told him I would go to that one with him. and with the renovations that they're doing at Vandy and just some of the improvements that they've made, I would say that their atmosphere, I don't know if I would say it's better, but it was certainly a lot more lively.
Starting point is 00:48:07 Yeah, I think I do wonder if that's a one-time thing, though. I think they're good this year, so they're able to do it. I don't know if that'll be consistent. We'll see. Maybe it will be. Sure. Yeah, and I was going to ask,
Starting point is 00:48:20 Do you think that team success, how big do you think team success builds into that? Because, oh, it's huge. You know, Kentucky's not been good. Well, I think it's not been good at home. I mean, well, at home, yes. But, I mean, we've been, again, I don't know what people's standards are for Kentucky football for being good. But they've been good for a long time until this year, at least by our standard. But yes, I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:48:45 Look, when you are Kentucky basketball, you're going to have a great atmosphere no matter what. But if you are Georgia basketball, you need to be good to have a great atmosphere. I think with Kentucky football, we have an okay atmosphere. And then when we're great or really good, we have a great atmosphere. But I can't really blame the fans for atmosphere this year. Look, we had four opportunities, three of which were at night, great crowds, excited in the SEC, and we lost every game. I don't know what else you can ask our fan base to do, Ryan, when they showed up to all
Starting point is 00:49:20 those games and they just got let down. Our fan base was on point this year. The performance on the field didn't happen for us, you know, didn't get the Ws, but our fans were there. That atmosphere for Georgia was great. It was great. The atmosphere for South Carolina was great. The atmosphere for Auburn was great.
Starting point is 00:49:36 The atmosphere for Vandy was great. We just lost all those games, Drew, and at some point your fans are going to say we've lost 11 of 13 games here in the SEC. It's going to hurt. I think the fans did even more than they should have this year. I was surprised that there were as many. as we were at the Auburn game. There are a lot of Auburn fans, but Kentucky fans still showed up or excited after seeing nothing but losses this year.
Starting point is 00:49:57 You can go back to sitting through the rain delay in the first game. Heck, yeah. One a.m. hoping they'll come back out and play football. And for that, to make that commitment. I forgot about that. Because it is a big commitment to go to UK football. And a lot of the fans doing it are spending more money than they probably should. To make that commitment, and then you get no wins at home, it'll be hard to keep up and do that. And let's be real. It has become harder and harder. and harder to go to UK football games.
Starting point is 00:50:23 The tailgating atmosphere is significantly worse than it was 10 years ago, and UK made the decision to do that. They're changing it again now, too. And they're changing it again, and it's going to get worse. And that, by the way, you are messing that up, UK. You are taking an act, you have killed a lot of the tailgating atmosphere, which was 10 years ago when we stunk was still pretty good. They've killed it.
Starting point is 00:50:48 All right, that may be a financial decision, but you'll live with the ramifications of that decision. I think the in-game atmosphere is better than it was, but it costs more. Fans are asked to pay on the NIL and all that stuff. So it has become harder and harder and harder to be a UK football fan. And yet our fan base keeps showing up. Yes, sir.
Starting point is 00:51:11 And our fan base keeps being loud. And so you're not going to hear me criticize UK football fans. basketball fans, we should be louder than we are. And hopefully this year it'll be. But for football, Ryan, I think our fan base does more than it's fair. No excuses whatsoever from our fan base. Absolutely. They've showed up every single game.
Starting point is 00:51:31 And I suspect they'll probably show up for the Louisville game. Even though the way the season's gone, they'll show up and be loud and proud for the Louisville game. What about the Murray game? That's a sick day. Yeah. We get a sick day. It's going to. It's a comp day for the fan base.
Starting point is 00:51:43 I also remind everybody, put on your calendars Tuesday night for the Duke game. We're going to try to make this a welcome back Pope era here in this bar. We're all watching the games. Listen, it's one night. Stay up. You probably stayed up last night for something that's a lot less fun. So stay up tonight and, or excuse me, Tuesday night for the Kentucky Duke thing. We're not taking reservations.
Starting point is 00:52:06 It'll just be first come first. If you can't stay up for Mark Pope's first big game against Duke, burn your UK gear. Yeah, seriously. Get a little caffeine in you. You'll be fine. Wednesday at work. This is UK Duke. They got the number one pick, and that guard might be a top five pick
Starting point is 00:52:22 playing against our guys, Mark Pope. If you can't get excited about that, why do you watch sports? Who's next? Scott. Scott, what's up, Scott? Hello. Hello. Hello.
Starting point is 00:52:37 Okay, Scott. Yes, I can hear you, Scott. Go ahead. Sorry. I just want to say that Earl Cones would be, sorry, would be an excellent choice for doing the Y at the UK ballgame. And I think if you have any connections with Mitch Barnhart, that I ought to try to get it done this year.
Starting point is 00:53:15 And if you won't. I can't get it done, but they listen to this show. And I'm with you. Oscar should be brought, and I appreciate the call, sir. Oscar should be brought out. There would not be a Kentucky Sports Radio without Oscar Combs. With Mark Pope back, Oscar loved Mark as a player. I think he was one of his favorite players.
Starting point is 00:53:40 There's a whole generation of fans that came up reading the Cats' Paws. That was the way people found out about the team. One of the things our school needs to do, is they need to keep the connection to the fans. Pope's done great for a whole generation. Me and older, that was Oscar.
