Those people are starving for banter.

And on my podcast, The Cliverts show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game.
Starting point is 00:02:17 This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, ref, Mom, I'm a woman. want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Miss Parker.
Starting point is 00:02:39 Listen to the Cliverts show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now, here's Matt Jones. Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio Monday, November the 11th. I am Matt Jones. I am in Chicago, Illinois. and Ryan is in Lexington. Shannon is in Louisville.
Starting point is 00:03:04 It's like an old school COVID show where we're all in different places. That's right. And you can give us a shout on the Clark's Pump and Shop phone line. 859-280-2287. A Vision auto glass text machine is 772-74525-254. This edition is sponsored by the TJ Smith Law Office. We call TJ. He'll make them pay.
Starting point is 00:03:23 So I'm here in Chicago. I did the Bears game yesterday for ESPN driving home after the show. show today, but as such, we're all over the place. Drew is in New York, actually, but not on the show, but getting ready for a big week. This is a big week, Ryan, I think, in the sort of Kentucky basketball sphere with the game against Duke on Tuesday. I was sitting here thinking yesterday, as I was checking the text machine, I didn't really have a ton of service at the game, and all of a sudden I got all these messages of people. after the game on Saturday.
Starting point is 00:04:03 And I can't think of a regular season game that Kentucky fans, especially pre-Christmas, have been this excited about, Ryan, in a long time. I mean, I wonder if you have to go back to the Zion game five or six years ago to find a time that the fans have been kind of this amped about a regular season game. I totally agree with you. Yeah, I think people right now are so excited.
Starting point is 00:04:29 we saw it Saturday at the restaurant. I sent you that text in Matt. This is like a college football game. It's like a UK Saturday for a football game because people were in line at 10, 15, and we don't even open to 11 for Bucknell. For Bucknell. Buck now.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that's what's amazing about it. And I'm just, I'm really, you know, I'm really happy. I mean, this fan base, when they get into something, it's as good as anywhere. Well, and for basketball, I think it's better than anywhere in the country, but even for football.
Starting point is 00:05:01 Like people just, the way they get excited is fun and it is contagious. I mean, I'll talk more a little later about what the Bears game was like yesterday and the amount of Kentucky fans that came. But there were probably over the course today, 25 to 30 KSR fans that came out there, probably another 20 fans just of the Sunday show. But the Kentucky fans all came, not only were they wearing UK gear. Ryan, they all wanted to talk about the game on Tuesday. I mean, that's what everybody.
Starting point is 00:05:28 wants to talk about is how we're going to do. But let's first start about the game on, well, first of all, Shannon is a little grumpy, Ryan, because Shannon now has to get up even earlier in the morning. Tell everybody and tell everybody what's happened, Shannon. Well, I'm sure a lot of you have probably read. There's been some company-wide layoffs, and because of that, now I have two more shows that I have to be a part of. You need to be on more shows.
Starting point is 00:05:55 I've always thought, Shannon's not on enough shows. So now I've got six shows that I have to be a part of every single day. So tell everybody what your six shows are. So, okay, we start things off bright and early with the Jerry Eve show. All right. So what time does that come on? Seven o'clock, which means I am now getting up. So you have to be in producing at 7 a.m.
Starting point is 00:06:16 Yeah. I mean, and I can't just roll in it exactly seven. You got to get her a little bit before, you know, get ready. So I'm in here by around 630, which means I'm up by 5.30 now every morning. All right? So then you got Eves. Then you got Leach. Then you got, of course, the pre-show, which I have to not only co-host, but also now produce, which is you should see me doing that, juggling that.
Starting point is 00:06:35 So that means you, like, have to be on the show, but also, like, answer the phone. Yeah, and time out the show and play the music for the show and do everything. Then, of course, this show, then, of course, my afternoon stuff, a QMF and double Q. So that's six shows, and I don't think that there's anybody else in this company that does that many shows. There's nobody in the world that does six shows a day every day. Six shows. But here we are. At the end of it, like, do you feel like when you go home, you've said enough over the course of the day?
Starting point is 00:07:01 Do you think there are other things you want to get off your chest? I just sit in silence for the rest of the day. Kind of like a singer that's been told, you know, you can't talk today. You're on, you know, vocal rest. Well, I mean, hopefully you'll get a little relief in that. But it's nice to know that you're the 7 a.m. Jerry Eves now has Shannon behind the, it's interesting, though. You kind of amp up as the day goes on. That's right.
Starting point is 00:07:26 You're not really on Jerry Eves. You're not really on Tom Leach. But now then you're kind of on pre-show, on KSR, and then you're by yourself on the music shows in the afternoon. That's right. So basically from 7 in the morning till 7 in the afternoon, 12 straight hours of me. Shannon, the dude. I'm tired of hearing myself talk by the end of the day. Well, the new schedule is, I hope it works out for you.
Starting point is 00:07:49 So Shannon's in a grumpy mood. But I do think we should talk about, I want to talk about the Bears. stuff. I want to talk about a lot of our kind of rivals had very eventful weekends. But we've got to start with Kentucky and what happened Saturday. You mentioned, Ryan, that, you know, it was our biggest at the bar, November basketball Saturday, like ever. The game, I obviously was not there because I was here, but people who went, did you go, Ryan? Did you go to the game? I didn't go. I did the pregame People at the restaurant and much at home. As good an atmosphere for a November game that they can remember in a decade.
Starting point is 00:08:30 And so that's awesome. And then, of course, we win 100 to 72. What I think is excited about it, Ryan, I didn't even think we played particularly great, but we still scored 100 points, one by 28, and was a very positive day, even though I'm not sure that I think it was our best effort in the world. Yeah, kind of struggled a little bit, but the one thing that Mark Pope talked about all week last week was rebounds and offensive rebounds.
Starting point is 00:08:58 Matt, they got 57 rebounds, 22 offensive rebounds. So I think he should be happy this week with what. And then the two stars were two guys that came off the bench in Brea and Kerr. They were the two stars of the game. Brea with 20 points, six for seven from three. He is now shooting 10 for 12 from three. He's shooting 82% from the three points. He's going to be a real problem for every team.
Starting point is 00:09:22 they play. Yeah, well, because, you know, you can't leave him. I was interesting after the game, Mark Pope said he's the best shooter in the country in stop. He didn't say like he's one of the best shooters. He said he's the best shooter in the country. And if you, I think that's got to be true, right? I mean, like, who could be better at this point? When he, when he shoots, you think it's in. His two misses were both contested. He's been open on those 10, probably seven of them. And It's like the net doesn't move. I used to think we weren't going to see a shooter that I, when open was more confident they'd hit than Reeves, I think I have it right now. I know it's two games, but when he's open, it's butter, right?
Starting point is 00:10:08 It's amazing. Now we see why he led the nation in 3.4% in his last year at Dayton when he shot like almost 50%. The guy's automatic and he's coming off the bench. So what kind of weapon does that give you, if you're bringing a guy like that off the bench that can just hit from anywhere at any time? Shannon, I feel like you really like Kerr, right? Like, he seems to me, like, if you, if he, if you were to have an Estonian Shannon the dude, I feel like it would be Kerr. Like, he's kind of a brat.
Starting point is 00:10:35 He kind of gets in your, in your, in your grill. He also is sharing. He had 12 assists. I mean, his comment after the game where he was about Cooper Flag, where he was like, so I guess he's the number one pick. So congrats for that. Like, like completely sarcastic. I just feel like he's you.
Starting point is 00:10:52 again, if you were Estonian, which I don't believe you are. I am not last time I checked. But yeah, he was making no look passes. And I can already foresee tomorrow night that somebody's going to get teed up and it's either going to be him or a Duke player as a result of him getting under their skin. Because he's just that type of player. If you could bet that on draft kings, what would you do? If you could bet either Kerr or a guy who gets mad at Kerr gets a technical,
Starting point is 00:11:15 you would take it, right? He is our Marshall Henderson and I love it. How many Marshall Henderson? types have we had, Ryan. I mean... Oh, haven't been many. McGlore. Yeah, definitely.
Starting point is 00:11:28 Well, let's just think about who have our dudes that their goal is to make you mad. Lance, where was one of those in recent years? Wouldn't you agree with that? Yeah. Yeah, do you put DeMarcus in that category, too? DeMarcus, though, was so good. It's almost like... But the Marcus is...
Starting point is 00:11:46 He is. DeMarcus, I guess, is on the list. McGlore is definitely on the list. The lower is the captain, I think. Has there been a guard like that? Have we had a guard who has been this kind of, you know, I want to make you mad, like get you fired up in a technical. I can't think of a guard that has been like that in recent years.
Starting point is 00:12:10 Can you? No, I haven't either. Somebody that talks smack like that all the time. If you can think of it, 772-74525. But I like it because he's like a little, he's like a little, but also a bug that can get 12 assists, Ryan, which I think is exciting. 12 assists. I don't know how many turnovers he had, but it wasn't many, if any, at all.
Starting point is 00:12:33 And I hate to say this, but they play faster when he's out there. And they had a lot of time when he was running the point and Lamont Butler was running the two. The team just seems to play faster when Kerr has the point. But they also give up more points during that period. I mean, it's just a different thing. I think when Lamont, when Lamont and O.A. are in, it's a little slow. But when we're talking about slow, compare it to two or three years ago, it's still warp speed, right? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:00 Like, this is, I mean, this team plays at such a pace. I was listening to the guys on the field of 68, Jeff Goodman's thing. And they said, and I think this is true, Kentucky will have the most entertaining games all season. just because, Ryan, of the pace and the way that a game with Kentucky is going to be this year, I think our games, even if you're just a neutral observer, are going to be the most fun games to watch all year. And I think that's the word that everybody used at the restaurant Saturdays. It's just fun again. There's so much fun.
Starting point is 00:13:33 This is going to be a fun season. I can't wait to watch them because they're fun to watch. I think that's it because of the way they play and they're able to back it up by putting a lot of points on the board. A hundred again. Yeah, I mean, so far this year, you've had two regular season games. are two leading scores O.A. and Brea, who I don't think we're in our predicted top three scores to start the season. Everyone puts the ball in the basket. No one, I mean, I'm not sure anyone, Ryan, has been a disappointment.
Starting point is 00:14:03 I mean, maybe you would say, well, I thought we'd see better games from Carr, but he's still averaging 10 points a game at this point. Do you think, again, it's two games, it's right state it's bucking out. I get that. But do you think anyone has even been a slight disappointment so far? No. Excuse me. Going into the Bucknell game, if I had to pick one guy, I would have a, well, we haven't seen Brea have a big breakout game yet. Boom.
Starting point is 00:14:27 Then we got it Saturday. Amari Williams, another double double. I mean, he may be one of those guys like Oscar. I mean, 13 and 14. Yeah. Like, I mean, that's a huge. You know, if Oscar hadn't spoiled us, that's the, that's like a Julius Randall game. Right?
Starting point is 00:14:42 Like, that's a Randall game. But those teams with Randall were based around Randall. Williams is getting it without even being a centerpiece of the offense. Yeah, he can do it all. You know, good passing from the high post when he comes up there. As long as he doesn't shoot any jumpers outside of three feet, we're going to be good with that guy. All right. So I have a friend who just wrote me this, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:15:05 Yeah. This is, I literally got this seconds ago. And this is a friend who wouldn't lie. I met Kirkreece after the game with my family. I went up to him and said, man, you're so fun to watch play. He just looked me straight in the eye and said, yeah, I know. See, I love it. I love that.
Starting point is 00:15:26 He's like, yeah, I am. What are you going to do about it? Shannon, again, that's something you would say. You don't like that? That's exactly what you would say. Tell me you don't love that response. Yeah, I am. I know that.
Starting point is 00:15:36 Yeah, I know. I love it. You got to have that type of. That's one of the great responses I've ever heard. Yeah? I know. I know. That is a confidence that you have to have.
Starting point is 00:15:45 He believes he's the best player out on the court every time he steps out there. Wow. Wow. I don't even know what to say about that. I did not see that. Yeah, I know. That's something I would say for sure. That is something you have to be if you're wearing number 77 and your first name in the back of the Jersey.
Starting point is 00:16:02 I mean, come on. He's wearing 77. Are you kidding me? And I like that Mark Pope is just kind of takes a view, hey man, be you. Right? Like be you. As long as you show up in Portland. be you.
Starting point is 00:16:16 This team is so much fun, and it's fun in a way that, like, you don't know what's next. Part of what's cool about this group is they're not sort of burdened by expectations. We have no idea whether or not they're going to be good. We have no idea where they rank in the nation. We'll know better on Tuesday. But right now, the joy of watching a fun team play
Starting point is 00:16:42 without any real expectation is exciting. And I think it's exactly what this fan base has needed. 859-2-80-2287. The text machine is 772-7-4-5-254. I want to talk more about the game, take your calls. What do you think? And then we've got to talk about Duke.
Starting point is 00:17:02 Are we going to win? The line opened up. I thought it was wrong. We'll talk about what it was and see if you all agree. That's next year on KSR. Last night, a blown call changed the game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.

From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards.
Starting point is 00:19:23 If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel like you don't feel on. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth.

Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levin this went to a billion-dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know.

Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all,
Starting point is 00:21:25 embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This is a great song, Shannon. This is one of the road trip songs I've taught you guys over the years, right? Mac Davis.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Mac Davis. Willie Nelson sings a version of this, too. It's hard to be humble. What's the word? To know me is to love me. There's one where he says something like, he uses a word and he says, I don't even know what that means, but I bet it means that I look good in my tight blue jeans or something like that, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:22:13 I think that's a great lie. Don't you think that's kind of Kirk Crease's mind? I can see Kirkreece. You know? Yeah, I can see Kirkrease is singing that. People are giving me some guards who like to talk trash. But that was like, I think that's a little different than what he does. Ramelle was a big trash talker.
Starting point is 00:22:29 Yeah. DeAndre Liggins, Ryan, was a huge trash talker. He may be the best as far as a in-your-face locked down and then talk smack to you. The one that kind of reminds me a little bit of him because of the way he was kind of a gnat was Patrick Sparks. though Sparks was also like one of the two best players on that team. But Patrick Sparks did sort of a country. You didn't see it. Ryan, he was talking trash the whole game.
Starting point is 00:22:57 Yes, that's, that may be the best we can come up with. I was trying to think during the break. The only one I came up with was Rondo just as far as trying to make the other team mad. Yeah, Rondo would definitely try to make you mad. Yeah, Ramelle was kind of like a joyous trash talker. But I love the kid and I love watching the team. team and then Mark Pope. Okay, so Mark Pope before and after the, I mean, so when my post game show starts, it's usually
Starting point is 00:23:26 about 20 minutes after his comments end. So usually Billy sends me a text and says, Pope just ended. I've been listening this year, but towards the end of the Calais, I didn't really listen. So I would get a little text. We have 20 minutes. So we do our pregame, so we do the come in, and then I do a mom. It's usually about 10 minutes. At the end of that monologue, we're now at 30 minutes after he's finished his comments.
Starting point is 00:23:55 And Ryan, I get a text that while I'm finishing that monologue that says Mark Pope is still on the court signing people's autograph. Wow. That's now a half an hour after he's finished the comments. Now, I don't expect him to do that all year. And also, the more people expect him to do it, Shannon, there's going to be more people there. Yeah, yeah. You have the whole stadium there. say just the fact that he does that, you know, I don't think it'll be like that forever.
Starting point is 00:24:22 But Ryan, what a way to get this fan base. I mean, I think he's got pretty much universal approval right now. But what a way to continue to build up the excitement. It's just another example of the way that we are all just falling in love with this guy, this coach, our leader now. And he's just the perfect fit at the perfect time. You know, the program needed somebody like him. and then he fell, thank you, BYU, fell right into our lap, and now here we are.
Starting point is 00:24:50 As far as the actual way they played, you know, Ryan, again, didn't really shoot great, but just constantly pushing the ball. I do, you know, my worry for this team, and we're going to find this out Tuesday night, is when you need a bucket in a big moment, do you have a guy who can go get it, right? Do you have a guy who can take his man and go get it? I don't know if we do or not. We'll find out Tuesday because we'll have those moments during the game. But in terms of hitting big shots and then getting rebounds,
Starting point is 00:25:21 how about him saying, I want us to go offensive rebound and they come up with 22? I just have to me listen to the radio in like midway through the first half. And Tom Leeds said, Mark Pope said they wanted to get about 22 offensive rebounds in the game. And at him halfway through the first half, they already had 11. I'm like, well, they heard the message. And he ended up with exactly 22. That's what they ended up with. Yeah, the team definitely took heart.
Starting point is 00:25:47 I want you to do this, folks, for the Duke game or for one of these games coming up. The Duke game's a little different because everybody's going to know the Duke team. But this is what impressed me the most. So I was driving up there to Chicago. I had to listen to the first half. But I also listened to a lot of the pregame show, especially I wanted to hear Pope. And I'll admit the last few years I haven't listened to that really at all. I listened to it.
Starting point is 00:26:11 and I think people should do this either in the Duke game or one of these games to come. Pope went through with Tom Leach player by player on Bucknell's roster. And he didn't just say, you know, Bucknell is a team that likes to get up and down the floor. Bucknell likes to do this. He went player by player and explained what each player, Ryan, does. He goes, 31 likes to get the ball. He tends to want to go left. We're going to want to push him right.
Starting point is 00:26:41 So not only did he know it, he said it to the fans. And I felt there listening, I was like, I feel like I am prepared to watch the game in a way that I wouldn't have been otherwise. It was so refreshing. And I just sat there and thought, this is a smart dude. I mean, this is a dude who we may win or lose games, but we are not going to be out prepared. Yeah, I heard that too. And I was just like, this guy is prepared like this is the NCAA tournament game. And it's Bucknell on a Saturday in November.
Starting point is 00:27:16 And he knows everything and every detail about every one of their players. All right. So Duke, Shannon, line comes out six and a half point favorite. I predicted five and a half. So I was off by point. Six and a half. I got to tell you that feels high to me. I was talking to Myron Metcalfe.
Starting point is 00:27:35 I think he'd be all right with me saying that yesterday. You know, he's ESPN's college basketball reporter. He picked Kentucky to win. He said, I don't understand why people don't think Kentucky can win. He said, you guys are good. Now, that's a national reporter saying that. Six and a half, Shannon, doesn't it feel a little high? You know, early on in the season, I don't know how they even go about nilling down what the spread should be.
Starting point is 00:27:59 How could you know? By the way, the spread ended up 28 and a half Saturday. We won by 28. That's what I'm saying. Somehow, like I even watched the first Arkansas game, it was like a point off. Somehow they're able to nail down what the score and what the spread should be. So if they say six and a half, then I don't have really enough to really judge it one way or the other. I guess I'm going to trust Vegas and say it's probably about right.
Starting point is 00:28:19 Right. I think it's high. I think it should. I think not only do I think we can win, I think this is going to be a battle Tuesday night. And why not? I hope it is. I hope it's a close game. You say you hope it is.
Starting point is 00:28:34 Wait a minute. You don't think it will be? Do you hope so or do you know so? No, I hope it's a really close, like, rock fight type game because I think that'll play in Kentucky's favor because they got all the experience and the guys down the stretch that won't, like, panic or kick it away or something. But are you worried that we might not stay in it? I mean, like, are you, no. Okay. I don't know if, you know, Duke may win, but it seems like Kentucky wouldn't probably cover if it stays at six and a half.
Starting point is 00:28:59 Kentucky scores too many points to get blown out. I don't think we score too many points. By the way, for people, I didn't know this. they've moved up the start of that first game. So, you know, Ryan, it used to be 7 and 930, which would turn into 10. Yes. Now the first game's at 6.30. So it says we'll start at 9.
Starting point is 00:29:20 It probably won't be 9, but it probably will be like 915 or 930. So they've moved the start of that first game up, right? So that's good. It may not be quite as late as it's been in past years. Yeah, when we think it was 930, we all knew that meant 10 o'clock tip-off. No doubt. So now I think actually it'll be about 30 minutes earlier. All right, we're going to take your calls.
Starting point is 00:29:41 A couple open lines. 859-28022 to 87. We got to talk about our rivals. They had quite a weekend, Auburn, Arkansas, and Louisville. That's next year on KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Starting point is 00:29:56 Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Shannon, this is you from now. This is me, chugging down coffee when I should have been sleeping. You're going to be chugging down coffee. trying to sleep because you've got to be in here so early that's right yeah i try to make the best of things though you know yeah you are you're a positive guy i speaking of positive yesterday i saw something i'd never seen in my life Shannon what's it at soldier field the only soft drink they
Starting point is 00:30:23 serve is rc wow it takes me back to my childhood like they serve like dr pepper but it's in terms of just like your base cola that doesn't have any flavoring or whatever yeah it's not coke it's not Pepsi, it's only RC in the fountain. And I also saw something I didn't know existed, which was RC Zero. So that's like what I drank yesterday was an RC zero. I didn't even know that RC was still a thing. I remember from my childhood. But if I had, and I'm not really a big Coke drinker, but if I had to rank him, I'd probably go Coke, RC, then Pepsi. I'm just not a Pepsi. I don't disagree with you. I don't disagree with you. But have you, can you think of any facility, right?
Starting point is 00:31:08 Any place on Earth where you can only get an RC. Soldier Field seems like the only place on the planet where your only choice is an RC. I'm with Shannon. I didn't even know they were still making RC. So no, I've never seen it. I remember there used to be like back in the 70s a vending machine for RC Cola only, but I haven't seen an RC or anything like that in years.
Starting point is 00:31:32 When I saw the RC fountain, I was like, well, do they also have tab? That was exactly why I wanted to ask you because, you know, Coke has their other related products. What's the related product for RC? So they said to me, someone said that Dr. Pepper now owns RC and that the bears have a contract with Dr. Pepper that includes RC. But I thought Dr. Pepper was owned by Pepsi, but I don't know. Apparently not. So either way, going up to get a drink and they were like, I said, Coke. and they go, would you like an RC?
Starting point is 00:32:09 And I was like, is this 1980? What are you talking about? Would I like an RC? But that's what they had. Wow. I have to tell you, I'm with you, Shannon. It's better than Pepsi. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:20 It's not Coke, but it's actually probably a better than Pepsi. Like, I want to go through the various teams and make fun of them real quick. Let's start with Louisville. Louisville gets the crowd they want after giving the tickets away, like, you know, buy a sausage McMuff. you get a ticket. They did that. They ended up with a big crowd,
Starting point is 00:32:40 but a complete dud, Ryan, complete dud. Down 10-0 to start the game, really never in it, except they made a quick run in the second half, and then it was over. Tough start to the Pat Kelsey
Starting point is 00:32:55 people coming to the games era. It seemed like it was a 20-point game from the minute it started, and they never got closer. A whole second half was 20 points or more. Yeah. I'll commend the little, fans.
Starting point is 00:33:07 They did show up, but the team didn't. Did not. And, like, here's the thing when you watch them. When you watch them, they're what we are if we didn't have, like, good players and abilities to do other stuff. Like, if they're not hitting threes, they're done. And Shannon, sometimes when I was watching them, they look like that team picture in terms of, like.
Starting point is 00:33:32 We better. I'm just telling you, I'm not, they just look like the team picture. Like, they look like a. Like one guy has hair like M&M, you know, one guy, like they all have their sort of unique thing. But if they're not hitting threes and Tennessee crew was like, you're going to have to beat us not hitting threes. They were just done. I know we still got a waste before we get to that Kentucky Louisville game. But just watching that game, I feel so much better about Kentucky's chances.
Starting point is 00:33:56 I do. I feel a lot better. And you're right. They kind of were. Like one guy kind of looked like he was playing stoned. One guy was half asleep out there with his eyes closed, taking no look shots. I do feel a little bad for Kelsey because he gets all those. people there and then they were never really in it at any point i mean they were they really weren't
Starting point is 00:34:11 they had one time that they kind of closed up and then a dude hit ziegler by the way did ziggler have 11 turnovers yeah i think ziggler had 11 turnovers and they still won uh so you give a guy it's like the lines last night you give a guy that many turnovers you think you'd win but louisville was not able to do it who's up first let's start with trent Trent go ahead trim on. Hey, Matt, I'm doing an EKU. And a couple of days ago, you all were talking about how much fun, EK used to be. I just want to say, I thought I got Rob a full-passed Wednesday. You did. Now, let me ask you, is it fun now, like living in Richmond? Not nearly as much. Most of it just go to UK for the weekend.
Starting point is 00:34:59 See, that used to be the opposite. I know that's weird for people at Eastern to realize, but it used to be the case, Ryan. I would make an argument if you were in college. It's a little bit different if you were older. But if you were in college, I would make an argument that there was a time in the 90s, Ryan, where Richmond was more fun than Lexington. Would you agree with that? On Thursday night, and the heck with me in college, I was all more than you. We were going to Richmond on Thursday nights also at a party. Wait a minute, you like L.EX went to Richmond, like Allen Culler and Mary Joe Marino and all those? Alan wouldn't make it, but we had a group of people would go down sometimes on a Thursday night.
Starting point is 00:35:35 Yeah. Nancy Cox? No, Nancy was not in the group. We need to know who was your group. Who you roll away down there. Did you go to whoop-ass Wednesdays, right? No, no, Thursdays. We were just down there on Thursday.
Starting point is 00:35:49 I didn't even know they had whoop-ass Wednesdays. All right, so the kid from Eastern, I'm not kidding you about this. Like, literally, Lexington would pile up and go to Richmond. And Richmond was the place to be the streets in that little downtown area would be packed with people and then the city of Richmond basically ran everyone off. So I'm sorry you missed that. Why'd they do it?
Starting point is 00:36:14 Because there was a lot of trouble that came with it. I mean, wouldn't you say the whole city ended up like a drunk fest every Thursday night? Yeah, there was definitely a movement to clean up the downtown area. So they closed all those. If I remember correctly, and I appreciate the call, there was like a city council election where there was a slate of candidates that ran under the clean-up Richmond moniker. And I think they all won, and then they cleaned up Richmond.
Starting point is 00:36:42 But there was a time where in Lexington, like, two keys was like the place and linas. But besides that, most people got in their cars and went to Richmond on Wednesday and Thursday nights. I know what trancy people did all the time. So who's next? Yeah, because Richmond had five or six bars together. And as you said, like, UK only had two and they were kind of spread out. And they were both kind of spread out. When I was in college, two keys and then Linas were like the only two big kind of college bars.
Starting point is 00:37:15 And then Richmond had a lot more. Who's next? Ed. Ed. Ed, go ahead, Ed. You're talking about more senior years. I do remember him. Yeah, I do.
Starting point is 00:37:39 Was he a big trash talker? I didn't remember that. I think this started. But he used to confront him. Well, he was a good defense. I mean, that was a guy. Oh, he was one of the best. Yeah, when he got hurt, I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:38:10 And that game against the Fab 5, Ryan, that was when the game changed. He turned his ankle, and we were winning in the NCAA tournament in 93 against the Fab 5. I think we were kind of on the precipice of beating him, and he got hurt. And then, like, all of a sudden, Jalen Rose and a couple of those guys, we just weren't able to stop him. It's funny when you tell that story. That's my only memory of Dale Brown is that.
Starting point is 00:38:34 that game and the fact that he got hurt. I didn't know he was a trash talker or anything. I didn't remember the trash talking, but he was a locked down defender. And, you know, everybody remembers that team for Mashburn and Travis Ford. But I think that that final four game turned when Dale Brown got hurt in the second half. Because Jalen Rose and what, Jimmy Jack.
Starting point is 00:38:57 Let's see, they had Jimmy King, Jackson, Howard, Weber, and Rose. Wasn't that the five? I think that's the five. And I think, I think Dale Brown was guarding Jalen Rose. And I think when he was kind of unable to go, the game sort of changed. Who's next? Seth. Seth.
Starting point is 00:39:14 Seth, go ahead, Seth. Good morning, guys. How are you all? Doing good. So typically I'm a podcast listener, but I got off for Veterans Day, so I figured I'd call in. Oh, by the way, I'm glad you said that. Real quick, happy Veterans Day to everybody. I should have led with that.
Starting point is 00:39:32 My fault. That thank you for everyone for their service. and I hope everyone honors their veterans today. I meant to lead with that and I don't have my book and I forgot it. So happy, happy Veterans Day, but go ahead. But I've been made to call in for a few weeks,
Starting point is 00:39:49 just having had a chance, but I need you guys to settle a dispute between me and my wife. Matt, she doesn't like you at all. And there was a time she liked you. And it was when, during the cow stuff because she's not a fan of cow, so she really agreed with what you said.
Starting point is 00:40:10 But we both leaned opposite of you, of course, in certain aspects of the lives. But you made a comment a few weeks ago, and she, it made her upset. And I'm trying to figure out the best way to bomb that bread. So does she not like me, does she not like me because of politics? Is that what it is?
Starting point is 00:40:33 Well, yes, sort of. It's not because you lean left. It's just you made a comment about President Trump and she didn't like it. Now, granted, I'm used to the comments that doesn't bother me at all. I love you. What I don't understand is, okay, forget about the comment, whatever it was. I would venture, you should tell your wife this. Is there someone that you like, sir, just like in life, an actor or someone that she doesn't like?
Starting point is 00:41:03 or is there someone in life that she likes that you don't like, or do you two just like the exact same people? We don't love everybody equally, I'm sure. Okay, so there you go. So, like, just because I might disagree with her about, you know, a president or an actor or whatever, I'm sure we would still get along. Like, why, I mean, I bet you she'll never meet President Trump.
Starting point is 00:41:31 Neither will I. So why should she and I disagree about a person that are not like each other about a person that will never meet. Beautifully said, sir. Beautifully said. I appreciate you. Appreciate the call. I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:41:48 I mean, like, I don't understand that. Why do we, you know, there's a lot of folks after the election kind of saying a lot of people don't lose your friendships. And then I have good friends of mine who are like, oh, you can unfriend me if you voted for blah, blah, blah. Like, we're never going to meet these people, Shannon. And in five years. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:42:08 You met Bill Clinton. I did. But for four seconds, am I going to dislike a lifelong friend or someone I enjoy because of someone I met for four seconds? I would hope not. Yeah. Of course not. Your relationships are a lot. Just think about this.
Starting point is 00:42:26 Think about how much people got angry with each other about Obama. Yeah. Do you ever think about Obama now, ever? No. really. Not really. So would it be worth losing a friendship over a person you're not going to think about again? No. No. Exactly. In five years or six years, we won't think about Trump anymore. So why would I lose a friend over that? At least that would be my view. For other people, they might disagree. Clayton and Kroom was founded on a simple idea. All leather goods should last a

Starting point is 00:47:51 or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back. It is Tegu Sports Radio. 859-2802287. Text machine is 772. 7754-5-254. Not surprisingly, Shannon, people have strong thoughts about the friends thing. Essentially on both sides. There are people on both sides don't want to be friends.
Starting point is 00:48:17 Listen, when you're on your deathbed, somebody's going to be standing there next to you, and I don't think you're going to care about who they voted for 35 years ago. Amen. Yep. At least that's just my view. At least that's just my view. Shannon, what did you think about what happened at Auburn?
Starting point is 00:48:34 So they get on the plane. They get on the plane to go to Houston and two guys getting a fight. And next thing you know, they turn the plane around and go back home. Now, the audio, the in-flight audio of the pilots is great because they're like, oh, there's a scuffle, maybe some blood. We're just going to turn around. You know, I don't know any details. Bruce Pearl wouldn't really talk about it.
Starting point is 00:49:01 But I would think there has to be, it had to be at least. least a little, like it had to be kind of bad for them to turn the plane around, right? Or am I wrong? No, absolutely. Yeah, I think they tried to say it was, quote, horseplay. You don't put a plane on the ground for horseplay. That had to be, there had to be like some sort of major physical altercation. Otherwise, you're not going to turn the plane around for that.
Starting point is 00:49:26 So what are the rules? Like, is it, if I, what are the rules where they turn the plane around, right? Do you know, like, how bad does it have to be? Like, if people just scream at each other, they don't turn the plane around. Like, what's the turn the plane around rule? Yeah, I think if there's any physical altercation, they have to put the plane down. And in that audio from the pilot, you know, he said there's blood, I think there's some torn clothes. And then didn't he also say, have the police there when we land.
Starting point is 00:49:53 So, like, if there's blood, let's just start with blood. If there's blood, Shannon, it's not horseplay. Right, there were some punches thrown. Yeah, no doubt about it. There had to be punches thrown if there's blood. Yep. Now, they left the two guys back in Auburn. That's right.
Starting point is 00:50:13 Just left them. Now, they were both reserve players. It would be interesting to see Shane if they would have left them if they were good. Yeah. They were both reserved guys. Then Auburn goes and actually wins the game. Yeah. They actually won after that.
Starting point is 00:50:29 Are you surprised? So I didn't see. Did Bruce Pearl say anything about it? Or is he just like we're not talking about it? I haven't seen a comment from him anywhere of you. I haven't. Can you just get away with not saying anything about it? I mean, it feels like a pretty big deal.
Starting point is 00:50:43 They turned a plane around. Yeah. Yeah. Well, you know, it happened with Tubby at UK, and they didn't say anything for years until it finally came out about what really happened on that plane. But they didn't turn the plane around, plane did they? Yeah, they landed in Knoxville. I think they were flying from maybe Georgia or Florida.
Starting point is 00:50:59 Wait, but they landed the plane. Oh, you know what? I never. So that was a fight between Gerald Fitch and Corey Sears, right? Correct. Yeah. But we didn't know for years kind of what it really happened on that flight that time. Did you know at the time that they landed the plane in Knoxville? Yeah. They knew they landed the plane and they just said it was, I think players getting into a fight, but we never knew the details or anything. It was a fight on the plane. So do you think, Shannon, if you find out your team gets in a fight in the plane, but then goes and wins.
Starting point is 00:51:31 Hey. What's your reaction? They were so ready to go. They were just fighting each other. They got a lot of fight in them, literally. Clearly. Yeah, I don't. My next question is, what do you think that was over? It had to be over. I don't know. I will say one of the two guys that got in a fight, there's a video online you should look up. Of him when Auburn's beaten Vermont by like 70 and other people are shooting and they won't give him the ball and he's pouting. Yeah. Like go look at the video. Like there's a video. that makes it seem like that dude may not have the best attitude in the world.
Starting point is 00:52:06 By the way, Auburn might be good. Yeah, they're good. They won that game at Houston. They beat Vermont by like 100, and Vermont went to the tournament last year, beat Yale in the tournament. Excuse me. No, Vermont. You have the audio.
Starting point is 00:52:17 Play the audio. Yes, sir. We have got an altercation on board. We talked to the player at emergency and land. We got a bunch of basketball players fighting. The flight deck is secure. The flat level. is contained for the moment, we just had, well, police on the ground.
Starting point is 00:52:42 And Center 206.81, it's kind of crazy. Well, we direct McGowan. There you go. So, yeah. One bloody player. One bloody player, and it's kind of crazy. Yeah. Close ripped.
Starting point is 00:52:54 So it had to be a real fight. That wasn't horseplay. Yeah. He said physical altercation, so whatever that means. Auburn basketball is unique this year for sure. Who's next? We've got just a little bit of time. Let's go to Jay.
Starting point is 00:53:08 Jake got 30 seconds. Go ahead. That's perfect. I only have one quick question. I know we talk about you mean having that guy to get, you know, a quick score and bucket, but the way we play and the way we run around and can shoot, do we really feel like we need that or is that like a hangover room cow? I'll hang up and listen.
Starting point is 00:53:26 Fair point, fair question. I still think there are moments you got to have one guy go get a bucket. But maybe I am just conditioned from Cal. But I still think that happens. I think there's a moment where they're on an 8-0 run and you've got to have a dude to stop it. We'll see, though. Well, we're going to learn Tuesday. It's a different team completely.
