Welcome back hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio here live at KS Bar and Grill. We are open for lunch.
Come join us. And how about everybody, a big round of applause for some 2012 national champions here.
Duran Lamb and Marcus T.
Guys, I was trying to think, Marcus, I don't think you've ever been on KSR.
Jerome, were you on when your season ended?
I don't think so.
I don't remember.
I can't remember being on the show.
I don't know.
So maybe you haven't.
So I'm welcome to your debut.
Guys, first of all, congrats on new podcast.
Marcus, tell me what the name of it is.
The backcourt connection.
We just started it, you know.
There you go.
We just started it.
We felt like it just made sense, you know, being back court champions in 2012.
I'm going to have to get you right in the middle between those two.
Yeah, there you go.
All right.
Yeah, there you go.
So your national champions, 2012 national title.
What made you guys, I know Marks' brothers been in podcast, Ron, what made you want to do it?
I mean, like he said, it makes sense.
We're the back court.
I won a national championship here.
So we're going to talk about old sports.
Our main topic is college basketball.
We're going to have special guests for y'all.
NBA, college, everything.
So we need y'all support.
BBM, do y'all support, like, subscribe, and just show love.
We got plenty of stories from that year that we're going to be talking about.
Yeah, well, you've done some of them.
We're going to talk about a couple of them here.
Backcourt Connection.
Guys, I listened to the first episode.
If you are a Kentucky fan, you want to subscribe.
Now, I may have to work with these guys a little bit on the language part of it,
but it was very, it's very interesting back court connection.
congratulations on it so let's talk just a little bit let's go over to Ron what
what what tell everybody what you've been up to you told me you're like a world
traveler yeah right now I've been on playing overseas for like nine years now I'm
going on my 13th year I'm going to Sansoon so I'm just waiting on that give me
an exact tell everybody the countries you've played in Turkey Portland Greece
Italy Africa do you do Venezuela
Yeah, I was in Venezuela last, this summer, it just passed.
You were in Venezuela.
So do you do like, who up Poland?
Is that?
I didn't do that, but I had a great time there.
It was a war going on when I was out there in Venezuela,
so it had us in like a hotel resort.
So they kept us safe, though.
So I had a great time.
There was a war going on.
It was a war going on.
Did that make you nervous?
A little bit.
My mom was calling me every day, worrying about me, though.
But I wasn't okay, though, in a hotel resort, so I was safe.
All right, Marcus, what about you?
where all of you been i've been all around russia korea israel uh germany
wait man russia and israel like are you looking for war zones is that what's
i was there a little bit before the wars i was fine but uh i've been everywhere uh china i've been all
over i mean listen i know that's a lot on your body and the travel but is it cool getting to go to
all those places and experience all those cultures yeah of course um taking pictures on videos
fly my parents out so they can experience that too and um it's a great experience for me too the culture
um different foods different languages what's your favorite country probably italy i was there for three
years yeah did you start to like the italian food it's great food yeah i can't eat pasta every day though
it's too much positive what about you marcus favorite country i actually like korea a lot it was
kind of like new york city it had like a city bob to it was a lot different than i expected
Food was pretty good.
And it was just good culture there.
It was a good coach.
Now, you guys, I love listening to you talk about your time when you were here.
Tell me each of you.
What did, what does Kentucky basketball and having played in this program?
What does it mean to you?
It means a lot.
It's one of my best two years here.
For me to bring my best friend here with me, too,
so he could experience the whole thing I went through was great too.
Playing with Marcus, Brennan Knight, two talented playing guards.
I backed them up and started beside them.
He played with great players, Anthony Davis, Terrence Jones, Gilchrist, Liggins, Darius Miller.
Jorts?
Jords.
I could keep going.
I just can't do he didn't play, but, no.
So, but I had a great experience, a great experience, two Final Fours, national champion,
SEC champion, thousand points.
I listened to him, man.
So I had a great two years here, man.
All right, I got some questions that I know these guys, too.
Let's start with you, Marcus.
You, did you initially commit to Louisville?
No, I did not.
Everybody thought you were going to go to Louisville.
That's not true.
They thought I was going to go there because my father played for Rick Petino,
so they had a good relationship.
But as far as committing there, no, I never did it.
Was it always going to be Kentucky?
I can't say that because Calcut came on to me later.
Yeah.
But I was kind of more interested in Cincinnati at first,
and then when Cal called immediately was Kentucky.
It was immediately Kentucky.
All right.
So when did you know that, like, you had a national chance?
championship level team.
Day one, our first open gym.
I knew Anthony Davis and Mike Gilchers from AAU,
but as soon as I got a chance to actually see Duran,
Darius Miller, T. Jones, I said,
oh, yeah, we got something special here.
Yeah, now, I got to ask you about a legend I've heard.
Now, you tell me if this is true,
but I've been told this was true,
and I've repeated this story,
so if it's not true, I almost don't want you to tell me,
but you can tell me.
There was a lockout, the summer before you guys
played your season. And the Thunder, I believe,
Naze Mohamed, brought the Thunder to Lexington,
am I right? True. And the story
I've always heard is that you guys
scrimmaged against the Thunder. Is that
correct? I'm not going to say it was fully
the Thunder. It was kind of mixed guys.
Sometimes they had Eric Bledso, Rhondo,
but most of the Thunder players. So it was mostly
pros and the Thunder. And I'm
told that in the first, one of the
first games you played, you
all beat them. We won.
They had, actually, they had
LeBron James playing, KD, all those guys.
Wait a minute, hang on.
This is true.
You had LeBron James and Katie?
It was all playing.
Everybody was there.
And who was on the Kentucky team?
Obviously, me, DeRon, Anthony Davis, Terrence Jones, Mike Kid Gilchris.
Did D.Mill play that day?
He's played, Bob.
So, DeMill.
It's like our top six.
Okay.
And I'm told you all won, and maybe you said a line that was something like,
we is Kentucky, we, I know, we may not be able to say.
We're going to blank some of it out.
But yeah, that story.
So tell me, without saying the word, what did you say after you won?
I said, we Kentucky, we don't give an F, all that.
Team.
Team no F.
And that became Team NF, Duran, and that kind of became how you guys were known.
That's a fact.
You're right.
I mean, we were the great team.
That lockout year was crazy.
A lot of NBA players coming in, James Hardin,
Josh Smith, Rondo.
So we got a chance of playing.
as NBA played before the NBA season started.
So it gave us a, like a, you know.
It set the tone.
What made you guys, though, think you had the Cajonais to talk.
You hadn't even played a college game yet,
to talk trash to LeBron and Durant?
We thought we were an NBA already.
Because we was big-time players in high school.
So in our mind, we could compete against anybody.
So it didn't really matter to us.
Even though you came in, confident,
and you'd already played a year here.
And those are NBA guys.
What did that actually do when you got to the college games?
Because in your back your mind,
you had a thing and I charge giving buckets to Kevin Durant now I'm playing someone from you
know name a college school I mean did that add your confidence or it sounds like you all might
have already had it I gave us big confidence knowing that we're all great players we all know
our roles stuff like that so it gave us a lot of confidence going in the season and it made it
made it easy for us too so I probably want to change if I recall there was some some hanging out
with those guys off the court too I'm hanging out I listen I was at the party I don't I mean
I'm not going to say but I'm going to say whoever playing
the party did a great job too you can't talk about that all right so all right so you you start
that season then margus tell me what was the what's the game you remember the most i think you're
probably going to say in blooming too yeah i was about to say it isn't a good game it was definitely
boom it's i still got to do with that till this day because i live in indiana so every time i walk in a bar
there's a picture of christian wafer hitting a shot it's like i can't get away from that shot but
that's definitely the most what's wrong with them we beat them deron like like we care about
We say that every time we beat y'all when it counted.
They don't care.
Like we beat them when it counted.
Why don't they realize, and we didn't just beat them?
You all crushed them.
Exactly.
We scored like 100 points on it.
Something like that, yeah.
When we seen, we could play them, we were so happy.
When we went to the Cal House, we like, we got to kill them.
Is that what you said when they were in your bracket?
Yeah, we could live the plan.
They were scared, though.
I think they were scared a little bit.
I could tell.
They were scared.
Yeah, they were.
What was it like when those fans went on the floor?
That was tough.
That was a bad feeling.
That was touching us.
Saying crazy things to us.
Yeah, that was a bad feeling.
It was like a sea of red just coming down.
You can see them rushing on the floor.
It was crazy.
I was there that day, and it felt like that.
I've said, I've been to college games for 20 years.
I thought that was the nastiest crowd I'd ever been in.
Do you agree with it?
It was loud.
I couldn't even hear Moot calling the plays.
We had to write it down on the board so you can read it on the board.
It was loud.
That was actually a really fun game, though.
But it was a nasty environment.
Now, which one of you was?
was supposed to be on Wadford.
I think it was Darius.
Yeah, D. Mills, I got, I got called a full court ball screen, and I didn't sprint back.
So kind of, on film, I was getting killed about it.
I kind of jogged, and then when I seen he was open, I sprinted it.
But I think D. Mills was actually guarding him.
And, Marcus, that year, if I remember, you struggled a little bit at the beginning of the year.
And then things kind of turned around for you as the year went on.
Why was that?
I was trying to adjust my game.
Like, coming out of high school, I scored a lot of points.
So I played on teams where mostly it was.
was just about me.
So coming into a team where I have guys like him, Terrence Jones, Andy Davis,
I got to figure out how to feed all these guys and still get myself going.
So I kind of struggled adjusting to that.
But, you know, they stayed with me and that's the season when the long.
Everything changed.
You were there in 2011 with the Brandon Knight team.
That team lost a ton of close games.
And then in the tournament turned it on.
What changed that season around?
We just couldn't close games.
Like, Coach Cowell was real big on us closing games.
So in practice, we would play a lot of, like,
four minutes, like last four minutes of the game, stuff like that,
and try to win games, stuff like that.
So we get used to winning close games.
And we was a young team at the time.
Me and Brad Knight in the back court, we was young.
We really wasn't strong enough, really couldn't get open like that.
So it took his time.
But when we got used to it and got used to college basketball,
we figured it out.
Was it true that Brandon Knight read Shakespeare?
People would say that.
That's hard for me to see a college kid reading Shakespeare.
You know B-night.
That's believable.
B-night with a good kid, always in the gym.
in the gym the most out of all of us.
I'm always in the school,
always in his books,
always studying, doing homework, stuff like that.
So he was a good kid,
working hard in the weight room and everything.
When did you realize, Marcus,
Anthony Davis was Anthony Davis?
Early, it kind of,
I honestly thought Terrence Jones,
well, T. Jones was really good.
But I thought he was our best player
after our blue and white scrimmage.
But after our first game...
Oh, didn't he have like a crazy amount of points in that game?
Yeah, yeah.
50 points.
But after the first couple games,
I'm like, no way.
Anthony Davis is the guy.
He can control the game without scoring.
His defense of president.
He was getting four or five blocks a game.
It was just crazy how he dominated.
So after our first, like, game or two, I knew what time it was.
You, we played Louisville in the final four.
Yeah, easy game.
Easy work.
What made it eat?
Did you, I mean, they weren't great that year.
Did you feel confident going into that one?
They couldn't, they couldn't match up with us.
Yeah, the press wasn't going to work against us.
We played so well in transition.
We actually made them get out of the press.
We just running down and getting dunks.
I'm like, y'all can't press us.
And then in the championship game.
Easy game.
Easy.
We beat them early in that season.
We was confident in that game.
Yeah, we were calling back in school,
setting up parties and stuff like that.
But I mean, you were setting up parties before the championship.
There was no way we losing.
We were sending up a party before.
We actually, we thought if we played Ohio State,
that probably would have been a better game.
I would have, I think, against Selinger.
So you scored, how mean you have in the championship?
22.
22.
I remember the three that kind of put it away.
Yeah, the back to back, the last one.
The last one, I was so nervous.
I was watching it in the garage of the arena.
And that was when I decided to run back in.
What does it feel like when you hit the shot that you know is going to get the title?
Man, it was amazing.
I knew all our last games playing with each other.
So before the game, I told everybody, like, it was our last game.
So just go hard and just play hard, yeah, and enjoy.
joy so that shot would man a lot to me I was like the best shot of my career for a
I've heard a lot of people say that like yeah you make more money afterwards but like
nothing is more fun yeah than that year in college do you agree with that yeah the college
experience is amazing you're all kids having fun like we play basketball but the stuff we did
off the court we remember a lot of that more than anything just being brothers the kind of chemistry
we built and the bond we built we all still friends till this day
There's nothing like college.
You guys all stay in contact, the group?
We all do.
For the most part, yet.
That's good.
Well, they're going to bring you back at some point as a group and, like, you know,
bring you to a game.
Are you looking forward to that?
Yeah, I can't wait.
I want to see the new team.
I want to meet the new team.
You're going to practice today, right?
Yeah, this all go, so I want to see them live.
Did you watch the Duke game?
I watched it.
It was a great game.
They came back, fought back.
I like, what's the guy number zero, double zero?
Otega Oway.
Yeah, I like him a lot.
You like him, a little bit of you?
I like the, um, you were more of a shooter. You weren't the defender like that.
I play a little defense. I ain't going to let nobody. I think little's the key word there.
I'm not going to let nobody score with me though, but we had any days behind me. So.
Yeah, sometimes we play OLAid defense. We know Anthony behind us. You were like, we got us.
All right, we're going to take it. 859, 280, 27, 27, 27, 27, 87, 87, 8787.
You guys stick around for a bit. All right. We're going to talk a little more. We got
Marcus T. Doran Lamb. If you have questions, text machine, 772, 775, 254. The National Champs are

On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness,

and the mindset that keeps them going.
From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards.

Like, I've never understood that.
Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't

Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.

Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
All right.
So Shannon, without me saying, it plays, teach me about Kentucky.
But I have a question on the text machine.
859-280-2287.
Text machine 772-7-47-45-25-4.
Ask the guys if they really like Teach Me About Kentucky and think it's good
See there's been a long time fight on this show I kind of like it
Shannon you hate yeah right now I don't like it you don't like it so what about you all
T. Jones my brother but that song is terrible
Thank you thank you after all these years I'm a big fed of that song
Boy why don't you like it it's terrible lyrics is this baby lyrics
I don't like you I don't know right you had to write him in the locker room when you guys heard it right
He did that on his own.
He came up to us and like,
I got a song.
We didn't even know he was even doing that.
It was weird.
But right now he's about to get lucky.
The real T. Jones is going to teach you about Kentucky.
You're not liking that.
I don't feel the verse.
I don't like it.
I didn't like the verse.
That's too bad.
One person writes, Matt,
ask Marcus,
how hard did Cal hit him on the butt after he hit those free throws in the championship day?
He had me real hard.
We was all excited.
It was fun.
Another person writes,
does Duran know that when he moved out of his apartment,
Drew Franklin took over his mattress.
You moved out and I moved in.
Oh, for real?
Yeah.
It's a little weird.
There's a furnace department, you know.
That's great.
I didn't even know that.
Yes.
Yeah, I was moving in there like,
Duran Lamb moved out two days ago.
It's like, oh, very cool.
Was it clean?
No.
He left me a billionaire boys t-shirt.
I think I took it.
You still got it?
Yeah, no, I'll still have it,
but I think I might have it for a while.
You left him a billionaire boy's t-shirt.
He can have that.
Yes.
859-280-2287.
Let me ask you guys about Cal.
So, you know, the end of the Cal era was tough here for a lot of reasons, but I know you guys love him.
So give me, what did you think seeing that from afar, kind of knowing what it was like?
And then sort of what do you think about him being at Arkansas?
Like, what's that like for you guys?
I felt like it was a weird situation.
I got so accustomed to him being at Kentucky.
and I know at the towards the end, things got a little rocky.
And to be honest, to see him in Arkansas,
still kind of weird for me to see right now.
It's taking some adjusting.
But, you know, I hope the best for them.
Like we said, we'll still go down and support him
because that's our coach.
That's what we played for.
But like we announced already, we still Big Blue Nation forever.
Yeah, like he said, man, it's real weird.
We're going to see him in that red.
Like, I always see him in blue,
but we still keep in contact.
We always go support him.
And I hope you have the great season.
Is there a connection?
Like, I assume there is.
But when you were in the league or even you're overseas
and you run into a Kentucky guy,
even if they didn't play with you.
Is there a connection there?
No, that's a brotherhood.
Like you said, it's guys that I've never met my life,
but we see each other, we greet each other,
and we talk about playing at the school
and are you watching the games?
It's like a brotherhood.
Even when I'm overseas, when I play against the twins
and Willie and stuff like that,
when I see them, I meet them, I go out, have fun.
See, I love that.
That's cool.
Like guys like the twins and Willie, that you would have that connection.
Yeah.
I always keep in contact with everybody.
Even the younger guys always hit them up, talk to them, giving them advice, stuff like that.
So like when Kentucky's playing Duke the other night, like, are you guys, like, yelling at the TV like I am?
Yeah, we're like that.
We fans now.
So, you know, we big time Kentucky fans, and we hope that they win every game.
Yeah.
Give me a good cow story.
Ooh.
Oh, man, good cow story.
Oh, man.
Good cow story.
I remember my freshman year we were scrimmaging and I was I was like going at
bernan night like I was doing my thing versus brian night this one practice he said he said
to ral strickland he said they I didn't know he was that good like wow like I didn't know he
was that good and I'm like what like you're the one that brought me here like it was just it was
just weird to me though but that was a one of the crazy story that had my my crazy well this is
kind of KP and Cal.
But anytime we run in offense, anything, any mistake, any turnover with scrimmaging,
and you get beat on the back door, we have this treadmill.
It sits next to the court.
Speed at full speed.
Stop's practice.
Everybody got to watch you.
You run to the treadmill.
Almost fall because it's full speed.
You run on it for however long.
Throw you right back in practice.
You've got, you know, after treadmill.
Yeah, you get those legs.
You can't play.
Mess up again.
He threw you right back on the treadmill.
And he goes crazy on you.
So my big.
biggest thing from playing with Calvin practice was that treadmill.
I can't forget it.
When you went to the NBA, what was your welcome to the league moment?
Both of you guys were in there.
What was the moment where you're like, oh, no?
Ben Gordon.
Oh, my God.
He scored four times in a row.
I mean, that never happened in my life.
Like, four in a row, like, boom, boom, boom.
It was crazy.
Like four different three points in my face, stepbacks.
I'm like, oh, nah, this is crazy.
They call the timeout.
My veterans, like, yo, don't worry about a rookie.
It would be okay.
Don't worry about it.
See, you called Ben Gordon.
I call it.
So when you play rondo, he might not score the ball,
but he's going to dominate the game in so many ways.
Rebound and assisting, picking a fool.
It's like, golly, I can't keep up with him.
He's all over the court.
He talks a lot of trash, too, doesn't he?
He didn't talk to me because he knew.
He was Kentucky, yeah.
But I got through in the middle of the game
because Nate Robinson got ejected.
I wasn't going to play the game.
Nate Robinson got ejected in the third quarter.
I'm not thinking I'm playing at all.
My shoes night at all.
Herve at all my shoes, tip like,
hurry, what are you doing, Root?
I run in, I got Rondo.
I'm on the court, like, star struck.
I'm playing Rondo, first off, and he starts doing all this stuff, picking me apart,
being so smart.
That was my welcome to the NBA, man.
Do you, uh, did you actually, like, never sleep?
No.
I was, I was real big on Team No, sleep.
You know?
He never slept.
I was real.
And if you sleep around me, I'll wet you.
The water on your head.
I'll put lotion on your face.
Oh, really?
And that was my thing.
Without my team.
So when did, do you never sleep?
Or you sleep during the day?
What are you?
I take, like, little naps, man, there.
but I'll be up all night.
Like, I'll be up all night.
Wake up, 5 in the morning, stay up, practice at 8,
I'm going to practice.
Like, every conversation that has about who the best pure shooter is at Kentucky,
it'll be like you, Booker, Reeves last year, like, guys like that,
you know, maybe even you go, who may as Braya might get in the list this year.
Where do you think you are on the list?
All right, let me be real with y'all, BVN.
Tell the truth.
Be real.
I feel like I'm the best shooter because.
I only took, I only shot four attempts from three point line.
Like, I only, I mean, I average two makes.
Nowadays, I see the guys showing eight attempts, ten attempts.
Like, if I shot ten attempts, three-pointers, I'll make at least five or six easily, if I was saying.
So I wasn't even shooting, I only shot eight, nine shots.
Yeah.
I'd be seeing Tyler Hero.
I was looking at this, like, eight, nine threes.
I'm like, damn, eight, nine threes.
So you put yourself first.
I got to put my, and I shot 50% from the three-point line.
And I play with.
You play with some good dudes.
I got to make my shots.
If I missed, I got two points.
Yeah.
He took the fourth most shots.
I did.
No, that's what Cal always would say about to Anthony Davis.
Listen, I loved you.
You guys were part of not only the national champion, but really during our growth.
It's great to see you both here.
I wish you the best.
It's the back court connection on YouTube.
Go to YouTube and watch it.
Please.
You guys are going to have a lot of the of the, you know, those coming out in the next few weeks, right?
Yeah, a lot of guests.
A lot of Kentucky guys that y'all don't like to see.
Back court connection.
It's on YouTube.
Yes, sir.
Hey, listen, great to see you all.
Appreciate it.
Thank you for having you guys.
We'll see you later.
We'll take a break.
Be right back.
It's KSA.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J.
He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
I thought though it was great.
Didn't you guys?
It was awesome.
It's one of those interviews you wish would not stop
and keep going, get into some stories,
but I guess that's what their podcast is all about.
That's exactly what their podcast is about.
I like.
They both, I'm glad it's always neat.
I think it continues to be cool to see the guys who still are connected here,
even though their coach is gone, Drew,
and Durant seemed to not know that you haven't had his mattress for a lot.
It's a weird thing to bring up.
I could understand why he'd not have it or not understand that.
But it is fun with them and really all of them when they've gone on
because when they're here and you interview,
review them. It's rained in a little bit.
Like, calling Louisville an easy game.
They never would have said that when they're here,
but now they get a little past it, you get these stories
and what they really thought while they were around.
I love their stories about when they see somebody
that's a Kentucky guy, even though they're playing
against them. They go out to eat before the game
or after game. It's that brotherhood,
that deep bond
they've got because they played here. Yeah, they're
signing stuff for folks now. So
if you, if you can, it's a
pouring rainstorm, but you would have to get
in here. If you can get through the
They're being very generous with their time and going around and talks.
It's cool.
They're going to practice, too.
Yeah.
That's a, I bet, I bet Lamb will love watching the way they play and shoot.
As he said, if he could have gotten the attempts.
I should have asked you about that.
He would have, can you imagine how he would have shot in this, uh, in this environment?
Well, he kind of hinted to it, you know, I see guys shooting eight or nine threes.
I shot four.
I made two of four.
What if I got to shoot eight or nine?
I'd make four or five a game.
Yeah, his percentage is still, uh, absolutely awesome.
859, 2,80, 22, 87.
Who's up next?
Adam. Go ahead, Adam.
Hey, Matt.
First time, a long time.
Who are?
So this sounds like it's going to come out of left field a little bit,
but I just kind of wanted to call and give a perspective outside of basketball,
you know, what Mark Pope is doing for the fan base here.
My dad passed away back in August, and, you know, we bonded over UK basketball, UK sports,
and this year with football being down,
it kind of was indicative of what the past five or six months has been like,
just been terrible.
But, you know, Mark Pope comes in,
and he kind of gives this hope,
and he wins his first three games and beats Duke,
and it kind of just, you know,
it's really hard to put into words kind of what he is doing for the fan base
and kind of the joy that he can bring to us even outside of basketball.
And I just kind of wanted to share that and say that I'm really thankful that he's here,
and I really appreciate what he's doing for BBN.
Totally agree with you on that.
I don't think there's any.
I appreciate the call.
There is, you know, basketball, let's be honest,
for most of us is much more than just like, you know,
just something we just kind of watch and do.
It can have a greater impact.
And it's good to feel that again, Drew,
within this kind of UK sports community.
Oh, yeah.
We all know this fan base.
You lose a Tuesday night game you shouldn't lose,
and it ruins your entire week.
you're at work on Thursday thinking about what went wrong and how can we fix it in the next game.
It's more than just that two hours they're playing.
It matters much more to everyone around in this audience.
You've said for years the psyche of our entire state largely depends on how some 18, 19, 20-year-olds play basketball on a weekend.
Pope gets it, man.
He gets it.
That's why he wants to win these games every single game as much as we want them to win.
So what happens like after this, you know, there's so much positivity right now.
They're going to lose at some point.
Yeah? I mean, but they're probably going to lose that week that we're on the road sometime.
What do you think everybody's going to be like? Does the Duke game give him like a long leash for a while?
Yes. I think it definitely gives him a pass. The honeymoon has been extended a little farther because they beat Duke the other night.
I don't think there's any, I think there's any doubt about that. I think it gives them like a long period of time where people just can be like, well, it's all right. We beat Duke.
I'll even go on to say, let's just say they happen to lose Clemson and Gonzaga both.
We're still on board.
We're not jumping ship.
I think that's true.
I don't think people would be jumping ship.
I think a lot of it's about how you play in those games.
I don't think all losses are created equal,
especially in college basketball, where there are so many games.
There's a difference between losing by one on the road at Clemson versus like you're not competitive in a game.
Yeah, and I was kidding about 40-0.
They'll lose a game, but the fan base won't care when they do at this point.
You can't have a better start than beating a Duke team.
when you're a six-point-hundred dog with the number one overall pick
at the Champions Classic where you hadn't won in five years,
that's how you're starting your game with your career with your first signature win?
Yeah, I think that he's got a lot of goodwill moving forward.
What about the story about Brony James?
He's playing on the G-League team, but he will play no road games.
He will stay in Los Angeles and only play the home game
so that he can continue working out at the facility.
You got to talk about some locker room issues.
That alone sets him up for,
some locker room issues, not want to travel with the team because you don't want to fly commercial?
I mean, how are you?
To be fair, they didn't say because he didn't want to fly commercial.
That was like what the rider kind of added in there, but they said just because he wanted
to work out at the thing.
I don't buy it.
I think that's a horrible, horrible look by him.
He's already got so much against him.
Just participate like you're a normal person.
You can't play half the season and think that's going to work like that.
We already know the treatment you're getting.
at least pretend you're like everyone else on the roster.
Yeah, I don't, I don't, they're not doing him any favors, right?
Like you're not, like, if you want to make that kid a marketable, whatever, like, you can't,
I mean, who is, I don't want to say people are rooting against him because he seems like a good kid.
Like, but I just don't, like, why do you think that benefits?
You know what I mean?
Like, how does that benefit?
It doesn't at all.
Yeah, there's not one benefit from that.
you're causing your teammates not to like you,
not want to be on the team,
not to be one of your teammates.
I just,
that,
I don't know who made that decision,
but I think that's a really terrible decision in doing it.
And if it goes the other way,
goes, flies with the team,
driving a bus or whatever.
I think he'll be more respected.
You know,
they'll want him.
Yes, no doubt about it.
Who's up next?
Nathan.
Nathan.
Go ahead, Nathan.
Yes, sir.
I just,
Just kind of piggybacking off of what the past guy said,
Kentucky basketball bonds me and my father together greatly.
That's one thing that we look forward to.
Whenever we first hired Pope,
I think we kind of had the same thoughts and same feelings as you guys.
We weren't crazy about to hire, but two or three games into the season, we're loving.
Kentucky basketball's back.
Those guys are playing for the name on the front of the jersey
and not the name on the back.
Well, there's no doubt about that.
I mean, there's no doubt about the sort of loving the idea of playing for Kentucky.
This group has certainly embraced it.
Yes, sir.
And they never quit, and that's what's got me hyped up about this season.
You hear them talk about it in their interviews.
They're crazy about playing in Kentucky, and it was a dream for them.
Yeah.
That's something that Cal had built for them.
but one thing that I want to add is what was your thoughts on the testicular fortitude of coach folks
with the inbound play thrown from Braia?
Listen, man, I mean, just giving, having the guts to throw that pass and like to get,
not just to throw it.
I mean, he said Brea made the decision, but to give him the opportunity, Ryan.
I mean, you know, not a lot of coaches would say throw that pass.
It can be a smart thing to do.
You got 50% of the court down there that's open, but it is, you have to have.
to have a lot of trust in your player to let him throw it right there and again maybe that's the
the fifth year senior in him he knew he could make the play otega he could trust in him to he's going to
make the catch so that was about that was one of those what we said was the rick-rick play from when
coach paul used to use it all the time i saw i don't know if pope pulled this up maybe he did but
i saw on social media yesterday last season duke was in that same spot in miami through over
the top and it worked perfectly i wonder if pope had seen a little that last year knew
that was an opportunity and told bray like hey if that's there
It'll work.
Yeah.

Duran and Marcus is over there eating the wings.
I said, are they good? He was like,
Mark's like, yeah.
Best wings in town.
That is a crazy story. I just tweeted out.
We have a new server here named Mason,
and they just sent me a picture.
Mason at our remote 10 years ago this month.
And he's a little kid, and now he's working here.
And I'm still the same.
And it's kind of crazy to see him in that photo with you 10 years ago.
Now he's here working.
Just former Hanover College football player also.
Yeah.
So there you go.
Hanover football.
You're a big fan of that program.
I like that program.
Any updates?
We're going to Mount St. Joseph this weekend.
For your recruiting visit?
Yeah.
All right.
Well, good luck.
Good luck on that.

Ryan, I don't want you to be sad, but Spirit Airlines has declared bankruptcy.
And I think if anyone could have seen that coming, shockingly, $50 for a flight to China does not work economically.
Are you sad that it's gone?
Well, I'm a big fan.
Not gone yet, but that it's in bankruptcy.
Allegiant and Frontier are my first.
two choices. When I want to fly, I want to fly a Legion or Frontier. Spirit, though,
in the rotation. Those are your first two choices, like, regardless of cost. Oh, yeah.
Oh, you pick Allegiant over Delta, even if it's the same price. Oh, yeah. I mean, Delta,
I know they give you that nice warm chocolate chip cookie and I like that, but nothing compares to
getting a $50 thing. I don't give you a one. I was just on the Delta two days ago.
When have you been on a warm, gotten a warm chocolate chip cookie? Oh, I just made that up. I tell you
how long I've been flying on a Delta flight. Well, you're going to fly one back from Seattle.
Is it Delta? It's either Delta or
But you're going to be out flying on the Monday morning flight back.
I'm excited.
You're going to think it's like the lap of luxury, by the way.
That is true.
Out of all of our trips, I think we've only flown one time.
We went to Boise, then we flew to Boise.
We flew to Boise.
You all flew back from Vegas.
Like, we've flown so.
Oh, yeah.
You don't, you know, we have flown a little bit.
We flew to Boston because Matt backed into my car on the way there,
and then you came straight to.
back as soon as we got there.
That's right.
Flew to Boston and your house burned.
So, by the way, your, your ad for alarm.com is on, like, national podcast.
Are you feeling famous?
Like, it's on, people tell me they're listening to, like, you know, Joe Rogan, and here
comes Ryan going, hello, this is Ryan Lippin for Alarm.com.
I told them I will do whatever they want because that system definitely saved my house and
save my dogs that day.
So you want me to do a commercial that you're going to run on Joe Rogan?
I'm doing the commercial that's going to run on Joe Rogan.
All right, that's good.
All right.
So tonight, let's do our Draft King's pick of the night.
It's Thursday night football.
You go to Draft King's promo code KSR.
You can pick the game.
The commanders and the Eagles.
The Eagles are a four-point favorite at home.
Draft Kings bet responsibly and go there.
I've been doing pretty well on Draft Kings.
We're tap and fade this this weekend.
What do you got, Ron?
If I had to pick one for our parlay,
it's a Saquan Barkley touchdown.
The dude is just bad.
So minus four Eagles you're taking instead.
Saquine Barkley touchdown.
That's the safest bet for me.
All right.
That wasn't the question, but that's okay.
Drew, who you picking?
You know, I'll take the commanders to cover here.
I thought the might even on this show pick Eagles to be my Super Bowl pick.
They've been a little disappointing, even though they just destroyed the Cowboys.
I'll take the commanders.
Yeah, I'm going to take the commanders.
If you're giving me four, Shannon.
I don't know if they're going to win.
the win, but if you're giving me four, I think I got to take the commanders. I think it's going to be a
good game. A couple of seven-win teams, but on the road for Washington, I think I'm at the lean
Philadelphia here. Okay, so one for Philadelphia, two for Washington, one for Sequin Barclay. Touchdown.
That was not one of the questions. Was that like minus 250 for a Saquan Berkeley touchdown?
All right. Listen, whatever works for you. What is next year? Josh. Josh. Go ahead, Josh.
Matt, gentlemen, good morning. First, Matt, I hope your bears are ready for
another 30 point beatout
at the hand of the Packers
for the 11th victory in a row
for my Packers?
Yes.
Secondly, living in Indiana,
what Marcus said of this shot
being the crowning achievement of Indiana
basketball over the last three decades
is unbelievably accurate.
Whenever I say I'm a Kentucky fan,
without question, an IU fan
will bring up that December Saturday in 2011.
It is unbelievable.
how far that program has fallen.
And we beat them in the tournament.
I mean, like, yes, we lost the regular season game,
but that doesn't matter as much as the tournament,
and we beat them in the tournament,
and they still point to the regular season game.
They don't care.
And that's the craziest thing is that,
but if you remember,
that team was supposed to be a year away,
that Hansborough Oladipo group was supposed to be the crowned national champion in 2013,
and then they claim out in the Sweet 16 then, too.
It is unbelievable what these people think about a meaningless December game in 2011.
Well, they were a year away from being a year away because they still haven't gotten to that year that year that they were supposed to be.
But I appreciate the call.
It is amazing.
There is no sadder statement about the fate of Indiana basketball than the way, Drew, they hang on to that regular season win.
I would be embarrassed if I were them at this point because it's been over 10 years.
and you're still hanging on to that?
Like, have they been past the first weekend of the tournament?
I mean, they were in the Sweet 16 the year they beat Kentucky of all teams with Ulyss and Murray.
That's probably the last time they've been to the second week.
If I were them, I would focus on that more than the-
You didn't even bring that game up.
They beat us in the NCAA tournament.
They beat us the last time we played them, and you're right.
They don't even mention that.
They only mention that game against the 2012 title team.
This shows how far they fall in that.
They're just hanging on to that.
What they always say, I mean,
I deal with them my entire life.
Now Cal was scared to play us.
That game made it that where Cal was scared to play.
No, that's because you were jerks.
Hey, Duran, how many threes would you make in Pope's system, by the way?
10.
There you go.
I think that might be right.
They would take so many threes in the system they're playing now.
Who's next?
Po.
How are you, Poe?
I'm okay.
I hope you guys are, too.
Thank you.
I just wanted, yes, sir, I just wanted to say something that I remember,
Hope saying the quote, it was either after the blue-white game or madness,
before Banner Week.
But he said we might not be the most athletic, or I hate to use the word talented,
because there's a lot of things that goes into talent, knowledge,
basketball knowledge experience.
Also goes with it, not just running and jumping.
Yeah.
But he did say, we might not be the most talented team,
but we're going to be the best condition team for sure.
Well, they certainly were the, yeah,
they certainly were the best condition at the end of that Duke game.
I mean, I appreciate to call.
If you go back and watch the last four minutes of that Duke game,
it's clear Duke was tired.
You know, they, if you go back, they only played like seven guys,
significant minutes.
Two of them kind of got hurt or cramped during the game.
They were very tired.
And I think even if you look at Cooper Flag's turnovers, Ryan,
I think you could see how tired they were.
No doubt.
They're like the eight-minute TV mark.
You could tell they had run out of gas.
They were tired.
Pope's going to play looks like 10 guys.
You know, he's got guys he can run in and out of there.
And Cibble, he looked tired, honestly.
He had 14 points early and then really didn't score much after that.
I rewatched the whole game yesterday because it was awesome.
and here at the bar.
I didn't really get to hear as well and see everything.
Watching it back and kind of looking for certain things,
they were very tired.
And it's like Kentucky knew because Andrew Carr is attacking right at them.
Kentucky started pushing, pushing, pushing as they have their hands on their knees and dealing with cramps.
8-5-9.
Well, no, wait a minute.
We got to finish the show.
If you go to Clark's Pump and Shop, it is your best place to get everything you need in terms of gas.
They got crispy, crunchy chicken.
They've got fast food madness, hangar 54 pizza.
It's all there.
It's a one-stop shop.
They have a new Clark's reward app that you should check.
They got that you use it.
You can get mobile coupons and more.
Get fresh food and go into store or the drive-through.
It's Clark's pumping shop all around the state.
Return, refresh, refuel with Clark's pumping shop.
Tomorrow we are at Whiskey Thief in Louisville.
Love to see the folks in Louisville come down to New Lou and see us.
It's a good chance.
We only get to do show about once every two months there.
Be at Whiskey Thief tomorrow, Ryan.
Yeah, Drew's already seen it, so it's an awesome place, awesome facility, so I'm excited to see it for the first time.
Yeah, and then Saturday game is at 1.30. Pre-game show will start at 9.30. We're opening the restaurant. Are we opening it at 9 or 10?
It was still being worked out last time. We're either opening it at 9 or 10, but either way, the doors will be open at one of those times. I think it's, I want to say it's at 9. I could be wrong about that. And then, of course, Jake Paul, or Logan, Frank.
Frank Paul, yeah.
Rand Paul.
No, he already fought too much.
I'm watching that one.
Rand Paul and Mike Tyson will be fighting on Friday night as well.
Nice to see you guys.
Will and his sons here from Lexington.
Appreciate you making the trip.
Thanks to Duran Lamb and Marcus Teague.
Thanks to you two as well for coming out.

Last night, a blown call changed a game.
This morning, the internet lost its mind.
Nobody's telling you exactly what happened.

breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline.
And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves,
