Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio
presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Now, here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio,
859-280-2287.
Text machine is 772-7524.
or we good text coming in here.
One person writes, Matt, regardless of whether you like it or not,
whether Stoops like it or not, whatever your opinion of Cal is,
we must now face the fact that UK is a basketball school.
No, we don't.
I mean, it is, it is a basketball school,
but what about, what do you say about Indiana right now?
Indiana is in the, in the, going to be in the playoff.
Are they a basketball school?
Well, maybe, but they're in the playoff.
Like, that's not, I don't think that's any longer the,
the excuse Mario, you're going to have to move.
You're blocking everyone.
I don't think that's no longer the excuse of just, well, you know, basketball school.
I understand why that upset Stoops.
I'm still on Stoops' side about that.
That was a mistake by Cal, in my opinion.
At the same time, if football was, if we were in the championship,
if we were in the playoff in football, this city would be just as wild as it was after Duke.
We've just never had that level of success.
We've seen the town go crazy when we win eight games in a season.
Can you imagine if we had a season where we actually were sniffing at the playoffs?
Yes.
This whole, not just town, this whole state would go crazy.
This state loves huge success.
Basketball just gives it to us more often.
But if we had it in football, people would lose their minds,
just like they do it in Indiana right now about football.
Yeah, I mean, it wouldn't even what a lot of college football teams achieved.
But I'm looking over that citrus bowl picture right there and how fun that was.
The state was on fire for that team.
That was just getting to a major bowl.
By the way, can I go ahead and say something about Indiana?
It's a great story.
Good for you, Indiana.
I hope you all have the most fun in the world.
You would be the eighth best team in the SEC.
I don't think that's even controversial.
There are seven teams I would pick over Indiana by at least a touchdown.
Right?
Yeah.
Alabama, Georgia, Texas.
Texas.
A&M, Old Miss, Tennessee.
I would pick LSU in South Carolina.
I would put all eight of them over Indiana,
maybe not a touchdown, but at least a field goal, all of them,
some of them are a touchdown or more.
I think they're about to get a rude awakening this weekend against Ohio State.
But I actually think they would do better against Ohio State.
They will than they would against the SEC schools because of style of play.
Like Big Ten plays a different style of play,
and when they play the SEC,
unless you're Ohio State or Michigan, where the town is so good,
you get absolutely run off the field.
And that is exactly what would happen to Indiana.
It's still a great story.
They still should make the playoffs.
They still should be very excited.
But I don't even want to hear this notion that like,
like when they lose to Ohio State,
they're going to drop below two loss SEC teams.
And they should because the two lost SEC teams drew are better.
Yeah, they're hard to figure out because they are killing everyone.
They've covered every spread but one.
but they haven't played a top 25 team.
Even the Michigan team they beat.
I don't think Michigan's very good at all.
They're not very good at all.
So this week we'll have a true test when they play Ohio State.
But to this point, they haven't really beat anybody.
That's what they haven't beat anybody.
I don't have they beaten one team with a winning record.
I don't think they have.
I don't think they've beaten one team with a winning record.
So if that's the case, like I can't, you know, it's nice,
but you somehow avoided Penn State, right?
You avoided you're going to play Ohio State.
Michigan isn't good this year.
I mean, they've gotten very fortunate in sort of how it's all gone for.
Yeah, you try to guarantee Nebraska would beat them and they killed Nebraska.
Nebraska sucks.
Didn't have to play Oregon.
You know, all the top kids.
Yeah, didn't have to play Oregon, too.
So, like, they missed.
And, you know, so they'll lose Ohio State.
And then they'll play in the Big Ten championship game probably and get destroyed.
Actually, if they lose Ohio State, they don't make the Big Ten championship game,
which is probably better for them because then they won't lose that game,
and it'll be, it'll be all right.
So they'll make the playoff, but you're not going to convince me that they're good.
Shannon, I knew you would like this, the bingles and the Cowboys.
Yeah.
That's a game scheduled for Monday Night Football.
Now they've done this thing in December where if a Monday Night Football game is going to stink,
they'll switch it out.
And they'll put another game instead of Monday Night Football,
which is like a way to make sure we don't have these money nights where the teams are terrible.
Yeah.
So you look at Bengals and Cowboys and you go, well, that's a game that could be switched.
out, but we can't.
And why can't we switch it out?
Why can't we?
Because that's the game that they're going to do the Simpsons broadcast.
Where the players are going to be Simpsons characters and all that.
Well, it turns out they've already done a lot of the animation for it.
They've already animated Joe Burrow and all these players, and they can't start over.
They can't make it a different two teams.
So we're going to have to watch the Cowboys and Bingles no matter what, because we also have to
watch the Simpsons version of it.
If it's the Simpsons version, though, I think it would be funnier if both teams did suck, right?
The worst, the football, the more funny the animation would be.
I agree.
But for those people who want to watch the football, they don't get to see a good game through because of the Simpsons.
I think you've got to call the Simpsons and say, look, call Homer.
One o'clock on Fox is the best we can do.
NFL sunny ticket version of the Simpsons.
That's going to be a terrible Monday night game.
It's going to be terrible.
Those two teams are shockingly bad.
But I actually think it makes me more likely to watch the Simpsons broadcast
because I won't care about the regular game.
So now it's like I'm not missing anything by watching Homer play against Mo.
I'm hoping that maybe at the Bengals Watch Party here,
we'll have a couple of the TVs on the Simpsons game.
No, it's the main viewing is going to be the Simpsons game.
Is there a fanning cast of the Simpsons?
That would be good.
That actually think would be good.
Who's up next?
Let's go to House.
House.
Go ahead, House.
the first time long time
who are what's up
I just was calling in
to give my take on the Mark stoops
I kind of feel like everybody's just
jumping the gun a little too
fast I mean we went from having two
win seasons to
you know 10 win seasons and I mean this year
ain't been too great but
I mean we did still play Georgia good
went in knocked off Ole Miss so
I kind of wish people would just pump the brakes
a little bit on okay so I'm totally
understand that opinion, but let me see how far
you would take it. Okay, so next
year we played all of these same
teams again on the schedule.
So basically everybody we play
this year, we play them again next
year. We're going to probably finish
this season either four and eight
or five and seven.
Coming back next year
with six, seven
starters lost on defense,
what do you think our record
will be next year playing all of these
exact same teams?
I'm hoping he can get more.
And ask you what you were hoping.
I'm not asking you what you're hoping.
Okay.
What do you think our record will be?
We all hope they go 12 and 0.
We'll take eight wins next year.
So I know we take it.
Do you think we will win eight games next year?
No, that's what my prediction is.
Eight wins next year.
Okay, eight wins.
Now, if you believe that Kentucky, and I appreciate the call,
if you believe that Kentucky is going to win eight games next year, Drew,
then I totally agree.
Let's all get behind stoops.
Let's worry less about this year.
Let's go win eight.
But let me just go over what it will take to win eight next year.
Let's assume we beat the three stinky teams.
Louisville next year's over there.
It's on the road.
That's going to be harder.
Our home schedule next year is Tennessee, Florida,
Old Miss, and Texas.
Which of those games do you feel?
confident we will win.
Florida's the only one.
You're confident we're going to beat Florida?
Sophomore DJ Lagway.
But I mean, I know we can.
Are you confident we're going to be?
Not confident.
Okay.
That would be the only one, though.
I'm not confident in any of the four.
Okay.
Then let's go to our four road games.
South Carolina, Auburn, Vandy, and Georgia.
Georgia.
Which of those are you confident we're going to win?
Can't say Vandy anymore.
I'll say Vandy.
But I'm just saying to get to 8 next year,
the most realistic pathway to 8 next year is probably win three,
beat Florida at home, that's 4,
beat Louisville on the road is 5,
beat Vandy on the road is 6,
then either win at South Carolina,
at Auburn or beat Tennessee, Texas, or Ole Miss at home.
That's tough.
That's really tough.
So I'm just saying, like, what's a little hard if you're Mark Stoops is to have the year next year where you win the fan base back, that's a really hard schedule.
This was the schedule to take advantage of.
This was the schedule where we played all the bad teams at home.
This was the schedule.
I remember what we said during their preseason.
You might not even be all that good and you could win seven, right?
Because you could have beaten Louisville at home, Auburn, Vandy, and South Carolina at home.
Well, now you got to play all those teams on the road.
And I just, I think the task ahead is pretty hard.
And so, like, Mark's got to be all in because we have.
a big hill to climb drew even next year yeah even this year i don't think alburn will ever be as low
as they are this year and you got them at home and we're laura was way down and you get killed there
next year's schedule so hard that he could absolutely win the off season go to the portal and find
linemen that we were saying don't exist i think there'll be some staff turnover regardless he could
make the perfect hires and do the get an absolute a plus in november december january
February and then next fall still not have a very good record because of what's in front of
we could be think about this we could be a lot better next year and win five games I mean we could
oh yes we could be a lot better and win five games because the schedule that schedule next year is
the kind of schedule you want if you've got a great team because you can maybe upset Texas at home
upset Tennessee at home, upset Ole Miss at home.
It's not the schedule you want if you're not sure what your team is, Brian.
Especially you're going to be missing a lot of players on this year's team
and won't be back for next year.
Yeah.
A lot of holes to fill.
Even like what I call a swing game with South Carolina and decide your season,
they got a lot of young players that are contributing on this team that's very good for them
that already kicked your butt in your own stadium.
And we have to go there.
They've got to go there next year and they're going to be good.
So it's not the rosiest.
path in the world. Who's up next? Let's go to Kevin. Kevin. Go ahead, Kevin,
859-2-80-2287. Kevin. Okay, let's try Justin. Justin. Justin, go ahead, Justin.
Hello, Matt. First time, a long time. Who are? What's going on?
You got a quick question for you. Did you ever consider doing a show down here in
Popville, Kentucky? I'll do a show wherever people go, but somebody has to bring us there. And we've
done many shows in Pipeville. We've probably
done what? Seven or eight over
the years in Pipeville, yes.
Okay, I was just curious.
I didn't know. But I would
love to come to Pipeville. We used to do it at that
Buffalo Wild Wings there, and we
did it on the stage in downtown
a couple times. Bank 5-2-3.
Bank 5-2-3, yeah, we have a long
history in Pipe. Ryan used to get in trouble
every time we went to Pikeville.
His ex-wife would be mad at him
every single time we went there.
Ladies' night at the Prohibition.
These night at the prohibition.
That's exactly right.
Well, y'all have a blessed day.
Thank you all for dancing.
Those were fun trips over the year.
Every summer we'd hit the three P's,
Pikeville, Preston, Paintsville.
Every year we'd hit all three of them.
Usually we did them in like a three days period.
We'd hit all the P's.
I think our last time there was we went to the football stadium.
Oh, that's right.
It was football Fridays.
In their field house.
One of the times I went to Pikeville,
I almost dropped Paul Patton down those steps.
No.
The steps up to the college?
The steps up to the college?
You were carrying Paul?
I wasn't carrying him.
That's what I took away from that.
But we were walking and he kind of, I say I dropped him,
but he kind of tripped it.
I thought he was going to tumble down the steps.
That's a lot of steps.
Yeah, that is a lot of steps.
Cornbread hemp.
How about cornbread hemp?
How about them?
They are, if you're looking for a little more holiday cheer,
how about cornbread hemp, the blueberry breeze product is a healthier way

From the WNBA standout, Kate Martin,

Like, I've never understood that.
Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you,

Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.

Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.

Back it is Kentucky Sports Radio.
859-28027.
Louisville, by the way, has lost more one-score games than any team in the country this year in football.
So they could use that and go, you know what, we could be 10-0.
because they're two and four in one score games.
Last year when they were flexing so much,
they won all their one score games.
Exactly right.
That stuff evens out over time.
You can't just rely on one score games.
It ends up catching up to you.
Well, when they were 19th going into this week,
people thought they still had an outside chance
to maybe make the playoffs.
Kind of ruined that with that loss to Stanford over the weekend.
Yeah, well, they weren't going to make it.
They could have made the ACC championship game.
They would have only made the playoffs if they won.
the ACC, if the ACC championship game.
One person writes, Matt, I thought you cursing yesterday was the most shocking moment
in media since J.R. was killed on Dallas.
Wow.
That was a long time.
But he wasn't killed.
He was shot, wasn't he wasn't killed?
Oh, yeah, he came back.
Yeah, I don't know where that came from.
I really don't.
I don't cuss that much.
And I wasn't even all that worked up about milk.
So I don't know why that happened.
And like people don't, I think people think it was a worst cuss word than it was.
I just want to be clear, it's not the word that everyone thinks.
It was a much tamer word, but it was a word that we can't say on the air.
The poopy word.
We can't say the poopy word.
I didn't need you to get.
I think people could have guessed.
I don't think they needed that level of detail.
But, but yes, it was.
You don't talk that way.
That's why we were, Drew and I were like kind of.
I don't know why it happened.
I don't know why I got so worked up about it.
Now, I have had a lot of people take pictures of themselves drinking milk, kind of like trying to
show me that milk is okay.
You guys are only hurting yourself by that.
You're not showing me anything, Drew.
You're only hurting yourself by drinking milk.
I think Billy on the pre-show confessed to being a milk drinker.
He did.
We'll have to watch our backs.
That's serial killer behavior, right?
Well, let's be honest.
If you were to hear one of the six of us was a serial killer, everyone would guess Billy, right?
I think I would.
I think if you were ranking chances of being.
a serial killer, Shannon Billy is certainly number one.
You know, you're throwing that little mustache to go along with it.
It kind of gives you that vibe, you know, your little milk in the mustache.
I am surprised how many people did reach out to me and say they did it.
I also had people reach out to me and show me pictures of movies where someone plays a psycho
and they are drinking milk.
It is in many movies.
Did we mention Hannibal Lecter yesterday?
Someone submitted that.
We did.
We did mention that one.
We mentioned that.
Anytime they want to make someone crazy.
that's a good prop.
And I think it's, it is 100% dead on.
Did you see Paul Skeens, the baseball player?
Did you see him win the rookie of the year yesterday?
Saw a clip of it.
So, you know, winning rookie of the year, you think would be a very exciting thing.
Absolutely.
They had him on TV and they said, you are the National League rookie of the year.
And it didn't even look like he cared one bit.
he didn't smile he didn't like he just went oh thank you yeah i've never seen anyone less happy
about an award in my life that guy he must have absolutely no emotion i guess sitting by liby
maybe some things aren't as important to you but i would have if i was presenting be like are we
bothering you here like do you need to leave it seems you're not present with us by the way
do you think it was weird they had his girlfriend there like the other guy that won his girlfriend
wasn't there yeah but she's livy yeah his girlfriend isn't that he is he is
I understand, but like, does that mean he has to everything that ever happens to him?
She has to be in the frame as well?
Yep, yep.
Because they don't do that.
By the way, they don't do that with her.
No.
Like when she wins an award, they don't make him sit there, too.
Well, he looks like a dork.
Everything I saw.
But he is National League rookie of year.
I mean, to be fair, she, I guess, is more attractive than him, but he is better at his sport than she is at hers.
That's true.
So, well, she is.
I mean, he is.
She's a very good gymnast.
He is one of the five best pitchers in baseball right now.
So, I mean, it is.
He's a finalist for most valuable player, not just rookie the year award.
Everything I've seen of him winning the award has included her, even if it's just like a social media graphic,
congratulating him.
She's made the damage.
Would you be okay with that?
Like if Drew, I mean, would you, again, this is.
Remember.
You're married.
I know.
I just make sure the question.
But, I mean, it's not, let me, let me be a little devil's advocate.
It's not his wife.
So there might come a day where they don't date.
anymore. Okay. I mean, this is a girl, you know, this is a girlfriend. This isn't a wife.
Do you think maybe one day he'll want to look back at the picture where he wins rookie the year?
Would you want? Yeah, we could crop her out. Oh, you could crop her out. No big deal. Come on.
We got technology for that now. I don't know. I can see a lot of people being that way,
but looking at how that man looked when he received the award, I don't think he cares what it'll be years from now.
I'm still not even sure he knows he won the award. He did. He, he's a, he is a really good pitcher.
The person writes, Matt, who do we think is going to be the leading score tonight?
I feel like every game you're just drawn it out of a hat, aren't you?
I mean, like, Ryan, it could be anyone, any game.
I'm going to say, I think you get a bounce back night from Jackson Robinson tonight.
I feel like Mark Pope is going to try to make it where he has a backs, you know, bounce back night.
That's exactly what I was going to say.
I expect a big game from him.
And then the team needs a big game from him.
They're going to need him if they're going to make a run.
I was surprised Andrew Carr became the offensive threat that he did against Duke.
You know, they were going to him, you know, late in the game.
and forget to get buckets.
I think Robinson's easy answer.
Pope might even, I won't say force it to him,
but really try to get him going.
Yeah.
Because he did play well outside of scoring.
It could be a way to reward him tonight to let him have a big night.
I think they need to get him just kind of get him going because he played well in the exhibition games,
but we really haven't had a ton of Robinson moments since the season started.
I think it would be nice to get that.
Along those lines, one person writes, Matt, do you think we need to get Noah?
Noah Perry and Chandler,
more minutes to be ready for the season.
I mean, he's playing 10 dudes already.
I mean, this is the season.
The answer to that question is honestly, no.
It would be nice.
I'd love to see those guys play more.
I think they will play.
I hope they do.
But let's be real.
How many people do you need?
Right?
It's one thing if Cal or if Pope was only playing six dudes
and you're like, we need to get our seventh, eighth,
man. He's playing
nine dudes, Chandler's
10, like they're 11 and 12.
Drew, they're only going to be used if
someone gets hurt. So
I think you play
you play the main guys right now.
I know there are fans out there
that want a second coming of
Reed Shepherd. It's not going to happen.
And honestly, I think if we get later in the year and those guys
are playing a lot, it makes me wonder what happened
because there's just so many pieces in front of them
with experience. And they're also... Jack Givens even
said on the show, Trent Noah is doing
everything right. He is working so hard, but there are a lot of good basketball players in front of him
that are much older, and that's just, that's life for him this year. Yeah, they're also four years
older than them. That's another thing. I mean, this is kind of how basketball used to be where
freshmen have to develop. They're four years older than those guys. Like, I mean, I don't, I don't
think you're going to see a moment where all of a sudden Travis Perry is taking Kirk Crease's minutes,
because Kirk Crease is much older and more experience. Yeah, we saw when, when Travis had to play point
guard in the blue white game because Kerr was out.
You know, Kerr is just more advanced and a better point guard at this point in the game.
Now, maybe there'll be a game later in a year where Travis has to come in because we can't
knock down his shots against his own.
Maybe.
You know, maybe throw him in there and maybe just try to knock down a few shots.
But, I mean, how many people, look, those guys, I think are both going to have good futures
here.
And I think there's going to be a year in the future where they're playing in those moments.
But how many people watch that Duke game and said, I think we need to get those guys minutes?
We were playing the guys who were ready for that game.
True.
And I think that's going to be the case for the rest of the year outside of games where we have a big lead, at least to me.

Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio.
859-8-280 2287.
We are here at KS. Bar and Grill.
Remember the game today?
We will have 4.30 p.m. will be the pregame show right here from KS. Bar.
Should be a lot of fun today.
Our former coach, Drew, Cal Perry, is on a master class of Calisms at Arkansas.
Last night they played Pacific, who was Owen 16 in their conference last year.
They're 358th in the Ken Palm.
and he did a post-game press conference
where he brought out the greatest hits.
He brought out the greatest hits and it's only game four.
And I can't tell if the Arkansas media like him or not.
I think, I mean, like some of the fan guys on Twitter do,
but can you tell if the real media do?
Because he's talking down to them in a way.
I have a hard time feeling like anyone in that room would enjoy being talking.
to like that. I mean, he's talking down to them now in game four and five like he did to us after
10 years. You know, we had a lot of goodwill built up over time. He's just meeting them.
He's just meeting these people. Still a little too comfortable too early, don't you think?
He's pretty comfortable for a guy that struggled with Pacific and Lipscomb earlier in the year.
Here's what he had to say. You know, we got a ways to go. Now, I'll just leave you with this.
The one thing I was really happy with, what was I angry about last game?
You don't even know.
Does anybody listen to what I'm saying?
Say it?
So one of you listens.
The rest of you either don't know basketball or you're not listening to me at all.
And I'm okay with both.
It's fine.
My wife doesn't listen to me.
If I call my dog, he runs the other way.
So I'm fine.
You don't have to listen to me.
So like, I mean,
it's so classic child.
I mean, it's so, it's so, like, dismissive.
And again, like, there's a part of it that I,
I think he thinks he's being playful.
But he just looks at these people and he's like,
y'all don't know anything and you don't listen to me.
Yeah, like you said,
it was one thing when he was doing a little bit of that to us when,
like last year,
it was my 15th year of going to his press conferences.
I could do his press conferences before he said down.
He is just meeting the people in Arkansas.
These are first impressions.
Do you all even watch basketball?
Yeah.
Are you listening?
He acts like he just hates all of them.
And then, I mean, now they apparently had a storm during the day yesterday.
like a rainstorm, but their crowd last night was awful.
I mean, like just awful.
And he apparently, I saw a clip on the postgame radio show.
He asked the fans to give their tickets away.
He basically sounded like me talking about how you can give tickets to me.
And he was like, give them back to school.
We'll give them to people.
He was, you know, their attendance is kind of shockingly small.
You know what I mean?
And I think they expected it to be sellouts the minute that man walked on the floor into that arena, you know?
Cal's coming to Bud Walton Arena.
It's going to be packed.
We're so excited Caliardin here.
And then we see the result right now.
I had two take.
I didn't watch the game, but I saw the clip we just played.
And then I saw the clip where he's asking for tickets.
I couldn't believe that.
That was like Pat Kelsey Energy.
Like, we play tomorrow.
Please get out here.
For it to be Arkansas and John Caliperia, and he's saying, just give your tickets back to the school.
That was pretty shocking.
Yeah.
I mean, you know, they, I think everyone involved thought there would be a spark there
that has not happened yet.
Now, I'm not going to, you know, I'm not going to dismiss him and say it's never going to happen.
They're going to have a moment this year.
I mean, honestly, can I just predict for you their season?
Go ahead.
I'm just going to go ahead.
This is going to be their season.
I don't know who they play left in the non-conference.
but they'll get one good win.
They got Illinois on Thanksgiving.
And then who else?
Who else?
I think they have Illinois, Miami.
I only know the Illinois game.
Maybe somebody else.
They'll win like one of those.
They'll lose the other two.
Then they'll get to conference play.
They'll get a big win.
Oh, yeah.
They'll either knock off Alabama in Fayetteville or they'll win a road game at Auburn.
Hopefully it's not here.
But then they're going to end up finishing the conference.
18 games.
They'll be, you know, 11 and 7.
right they'll get in the SEC tournament they'll losing the quarterfinals they'll make the NCAA
tournament as like a six or seven seed I'm going to say he puts it together and he wins one game
and then they'll lose in the second were you doing the last four years of Kentucky basketball
no that's it I've read that story before he is going to have the year that we had two years ago
where we lost to Kansas State you remember that season
where like we didn't really think at any point we were a contender,
but we were just good enough that we're like, well, I guess we'll see.
And then we squeaked out that win against Providence,
and then Kansas State beat us by 12 or whatever in the second round,
and we were never really in that game.
That's going to be the season he has this year.
And I felt like that would be the season.
If he stayed here, we would see the identical run that you just said here again.
See, I actually think it might have been worse.
Worse than that.
I think it might have been worse.
if he stays here, we're relying on freshmen big time.
We probably our fans are, like, they're still kind of like moderately excited about it,
even if they're not showing up.
Our fans would have been, you know, our fans would not have been interested at all.
And the negativity, just I think honestly, Drew, we would have had a worse version of that season here.
We were heading for that.
That's why a lot of people were ready for it to change.
I mean, Jaden Quaintens was going to be the star.
I mean, he's fine at Arizona State right now.
He's 17 years old.
And remember, Adieu was going to leave.
A do might be his best player this year.
And Adieu was not going to play for him here.
Yeah, he left before Cal left.
To be fair, Boogie Flan looks awesome.
But other than that, it would be Billy Richmond, Carter Knox, Jaden Quaintens.
The other freshman.
There was no money to go to the portal.
Exactly what we get.
That's another thing.
They at least brought in all this money for NIL.
we didn't have any money for NIL.
The donors were done on the NIL thing for basketball.
So it would have been much worse if he was here.
Who's next?
Terry.
Terry, what's up, Terry?
Hey, guys, I got a gambling nugget for you and a football take on the gambling.
A lot of people say, well, it's hard to make money on Kentucky
when they play these games like Bucknell and tonight.
That's where you make the money because Pope believes in
these games of blowing teams out.
So like, say Kentucky's, say Kentucky's total points is 82.
You go to the alternate and as much as you want to tolerate, 87, 90, 92, you get a better
rate if you take the more points.
And that's how you make, how you make your money on these games.
To your first point, Terry, Pope, for two reasons.
One, he's like, this team hasn't played together a lot, so I want to keep playing the best
guys.
But number two is, and he has said this, the way they do the NCAA tournament now,
because they consider offensive and defensive efficiency, every possession matters.
You know, you can't just have four possessions of turnovers.
It will hurt your efficiency, which could hurt your seed in the tournament.
And he believes, Ryan, I mean, that frustrates people why he doesn't put Noah and Perry in until the end.
But, like, his belief is you've got to keep getting your efficiency up.
That's the whole point, man.
You try to get it up so you can get a better ranking, a better seed in the tournament.
That's what it's all about, and he understands that.
So I think that will continue, Terry.
I think you're right.
But go ahead.
Okay, on football, what I don't understand is, now this game went ahead against Murray,
I would say you had a handful of players that had they been playing somebody good
that they would have played.
He set him out as precaution to get him rest.
Barion, Dionne Walker, those guys.
would have played if it had been a real game, yes.
So what I don't understand, he said,
Brock did not get cleared till late Friday afternoon.
Why take the chance?
He should have just played Bowley the whole game.
There was no reason to play Brock in that game,
and those two-lane ducks that he threw might have been an indication
that he really wasn't ready.
And my last thing is, Drew, tonight on your rapid reaction,
based on the theme of yesterday's show,
you all can just take on all the blue coaches they come out of the building.
Thanks.
You should.
You should.
I appreciate the call.
He's right about the quarterback situation.
I mean, early in the year, it's Brock's the guy, but Gavin's going to get a couple
series.
It's like, okay, well, is Gavin the guy?
It looks like they wanted to get Gavin.
Then suddenly, Gavin, you go sit at the end of the bench.
Cutter's going to get a few looks.
Brock can't play.
He's hurt.
Oh, no, Brock's going to play.
We're going to throw two deep balls.
Now Brock's the guy at Texas.
Stoops defeated him.
But in his show last night, he's like, Cutter might still get in there a little bit.
So it's like, what are you, do you all have a plan at quarterback?
Are they not playing Gavin anymore?
Exactly my point.
You know, at one point when Brock was fine and healthy, they're still shoving Gavin in a few series here and there,
which helped me with the game.
But there's one he came in and didn't need to and threw off Brock's rhythm a little bit.
And now Brock's our guy at Texas, he helped us win at Ole Miss.
But Cutter will be ready in case he's needed.
It's just like, do you all even have a plan for all these quarterbacks?
That's a good point that both you and Terry make about the Brock situation.
I think ultimately, Ryan, it may be that he was burned a few years ago in that Austin P game.
I mean, I think that was embarrassing to them when they put in Luke Wright and were down 10-0,
and it was actually a game going into halftime, and I think maybe he just wanted to avoid that again.
I think that's a lot of it.
And I think they wanted to sit Gavin out with these other guys, Barion and Dion and JJ,
we were to kind of let him heal up a little bit.
So when they got Brock got cleared to play, like, okay, let's get him, let's get three touchdowns on the board.
we can hand everything over to cutter.
Yeah, and then, you know, it wasn't necessarily the easiest with Brock at the beginning.
I mean, he.
Drew said it.
I mean, here we are.
We got two games left, and we're still uncertain about the quarterback position.
And we've not had really good quarterback play, you know, all year.
And we've still don't know if he's going to be the quarterback next year.
Yeah.
I mean, you know, that's a whole other thing that the next two games may be a big part of deciding that.

It's time to make our picks for today from Draft Kings.
If you go to Draft Kings, download the app.
You can bet on the games tonight.
Remember, if you come to the bar, you get 100% profit boost, but you can do it at home
where we will not have a KSR parlay tonight, but there's right now, again,
And Draft King's promo code KSR bet, bet five.
You get 150 in bonus bets.
Lipscomb and Kentucky, Kentucky's a 21-point favorite.
We'll pick for the pregame show, but let me give you some over-under on points.
Otega O'A, 15, over-under.
I'll go under.
Even though he's been awesome, I feel like it'll be more of a balanced effort.
A lot of guys scoring around 10 to 12.
I may go under as well.
That's, I thought that was a little higher than I thought.
What about you?
It is higher than I thought, but he's.
my favorite play right now so I'm going over.
Andrew Carr 13.
I'm leaning under again.
I think it's going to be a big Robinson game.
I go under.
I'm going to go over.
Why not?
And then Jackson Robinson, if you like Jackson Robinson, have a big game.
13 is the number.
Over.
That's my pick.
13 is the number.
I think it's going to be mostly a balanced game, but he will lead him in scoring with about
19 or 10.
So you like the Jackson, right?
Is that your Drew Franklin bring it on down to the twist and shout lock of the week?
That's exactly what I was going to call it.
It's like you're reading my brain.
I'm not going to put Billy and Mario's salary on it like you've done with some plays,
but I like Jackson having a big game.
And I have Kentucky cover and already bet it.
Okay, gotcha.
If you can, let's see, what else?
They do the correct scores.
So Jackson 3s on there?
Terry said, remember Terry said about getting by a certain margin, the winning victory.
I think since Terry said it, they've taken that off.
Oh, they did.
They were listening.
They had it by like you could win by a certain amount,
and then they just took it off because Terry has a lot of power.
It's amazing.
Draft Kings probably hates the way we do that.
Who's up next?
Let's go to Kevin.
Kevin, go ahead, Kevin.
It's good to hear from you again.
I love John Rothstein calls John Calipari the last Corleone,
and to me he's afraid of for sure if he's the last Corleone.
I wanted to drop the status.
on you. Pacific had one made field goal in the last 11 minutes, 30 seconds of that game.
And that happened with one minute to go. And they, Arfussoff still didn't cover 21 and a half
points. They're firing on all cylinders down there in table.
Wow, that's amazing. By the way, I appreciate the call. Our over under is 90.5.
I mean, it's, I think it's been 90 something every game outside of Duke. It was low for Duke.
Duke was 80. 90.5 is, that's an unbelievable amount.
They scored 100 against Bucknell.
Speaking of unbelievable, they just released a stat for the first two weeks of the G League.
And they ranked the players by their P.E.R.
That's basically how good are you playing in the G League?
Out of 336 players, Brani was 33rd.
Oh, my goodness.
In the G League.
Oh, my goodness.
Not in the NBA.
in the G-Lean.
Wow.
I'm not trying to pick on the kid.
I want the kid to be good.
He is Mario's favorite player.
I want the kid to be good.
But they have done him no favors.
Picking him in the draft when you are 33rd out of 336 is clearly for his dad.
That doesn't help him.
Putting him in the NBA when he's not ready on the biggest stage with the most marketable team,
that doesn't help him.
and then doing this thing where he won't play road games.
It's almost like if you were to do a plan of how you would make that kid successful,
they have done the wrong thing at every step of the way.
Jeff Goodman said, and he took a lot of criticism for this,
but I'm going to take up for Jeff.
I think he's right.
He said, Brony's a nice player.
If he had come back and stayed,
he could have been first or second team all conference by his senior year.
I think that's a completely reasonable.
statement, but it also shows how ridiculous it was, Drew, that they went and got him picked.
Yeah, and when you're, Bronny picked 50th, whatever, in the second round, you're not supposed
to be on the radar.
If you get into the game, no one's really supposed to notice you're even in there.
Guys are waiting for LeBron to check in, or Brony to check in because they want to shut him down,
they want to put an elbow in his chest, they want to dunk on him.
He's already having an uphill battle just based on where he's picked.
And you know, that you've got a target on.
That's what I mean.
You have a target on him where guys are actively going.
going out to try to put him away.
It's probably happening more so in the G league than the guys in the NBA probably
out of respect LeBron won't want to hurt Brony.
But you're right.
In the G league, they're probably going after him hard.
They see it as their chance to say, wait a minute, that should have been me.
Should have been me.
That was drafted.
I just, I can't, when I saw that stat, I was just thinking you couldn't have handled this
worse for that kid.
Makes me almost still sorry for him.
I mean, I don't.
Look, he's got a great life.
I'm sure.
It's not like anybody's weeping for him.
but if he cares about being an NBA player,
I don't think they could have done this worse.
He'd have been better off playing in Utah, right,
if you were going to draft him.
Because nobody would have put him with the Lakers.
It's like you couldn't have done that any worse.
Who's next?
Tanner.
Tanner.
Tanner.
Hey, Matt, first time, long time.
Who up?
Hey, I got a quick question for you,
because I know this was kind of contentious at the end of Cal's time,
but what is the relationship like with Pope and some of like the top donors at UK?
And then my other question is with Mitch Barnhart's,
I guess he signed a new contract this summer,
but who would be your all's pick for the next athletic director after Mitch?
Yeah, well, first of your first question about Pope.
Everything I've heard is that Pope's relationship with the donors
has been like his relationship with everybody.
It's been great.
I mean, I know he has a good relationship with the crafts.
There are people donating for basketball now who have not donated for basketball
probably since Rick Petino, to be honest with you.
I think he brought in a lot of the old Rick Petino guys are back.
I think Rick has sent some of his guys who aren't even Kentucky guys.
I mean, I think there's been, you know, from what I understand,
the club blue thing has gone really, really well.
So I think it's been like with everything with Pope so far Ryan a slam dunk as far as I've heard in that regard
It's not a coincidence that the crafts have been sitting there on courtside every single game and it's not a coincidence
There's a guy that sits behind the bench that has not been there during the entire Caliperia era
He was there every game when Patino was here he's back sitting behind who's that?
Look out the blue glasses Seth Hancock Claiborne Farm
Oh
Okay, look at Scoop lemon dropping days over here
He knows all the rich people.
He drops the news in the last minute of the show.
He's over here ID and billionaires.
He's like, oh, yeah, that's good.
You know why?
Because they're at that club he goes to.
