Welcome, everyone in Kentucky Sports Radio Thursday, November the 21st.
I'm Matt Jones here today at the Lexington Fire Department.
Lexington Fire Department out on Magnolia Drive, a special surprise appearance here
with our firefighters in Lexington on a snowy day here in the big city.
is the Shaughan the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line 859-280-2287.

In this edition, sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office, if you call T.J., he'll make them pay.
You know, Ryan, I knew this was coming up.
We had this scheduled a couple different times.
Once I had to leave, once was the day after election day, which I didn't think would be the perfect time to do this.
But this is a perfect day here at the Lexington Fire Department out in Masterson Station.
the newest fire department in the city of Lexington.
And what a cool place to visit.
It is a beautiful facility.
I mean, it's right here in the middle of the Masters and Station neighborhood area.
And, man, we're just talking, this is the station that saved my house.
This is the station.
I live just right over there.
This is the station that came to your house.
Yes.
When you left it to go to Boston and left it and it caught on fire, they came and kept you having a structure.
This station saved my house, saved my dog.
So have you thanked everybody?
Well, they said it was the second shift guys.
They're going to be here later today.
Yeah, I feel like they're still part of the team.
I can't think them enough because.
Well, I didn't hear you think of once.
Well, I am thinking them right now.
I mean, like I said before we-
He says he can't think them enough.
I literally didn't hear him think of one time.
They're buying us lunch.
I told Ryan before we started, he should be buying them lunch.
Yeah, no kidding.
Why are you eating fire department lunch?
You should be buying fire department lunch.
They did because they were there with my house within seconds.
After the call came in within seconds,
they were there and when they entered the house it was on fire josea's room was on fire all right so the
reason we're here is that the lexington fire department uh once you listening chananan specifically
okay right now those of you listening you think i'm talking to the other people i'm actually
talking to you specifically oh wow okay the person listening to this they want you to join their team
they offer excellent benefits uh you get paid while training at the academy and a 24 to 48 24 schedule
You get 24 hours on, 48 hours off at the Lexington Fire Department.
You can learn more on Twitter, LFD hiring or go to the Lexington Fire Department website.
So, Shannon, they showed me around.
You know, when you're a kid, like, everybody wants to be a firefighter.
Yeah.
I can see why.
First of all, they got these big trucks, right?
I saw where they sleep.
I saw, like, where they watch movies and, like, basketball games together.
Yeah.
goal they have a kitchen like if i wanted to learn to cook i can come do it here they have like a big
fire department kitchen yeah you know he said the guy that was showing me around said we kind of live
here for 24 hours and uh just kind of seems like a cool place i feel more manly being here yeah you
should i know right you know if you did learn to cook here and you did catch a fire i think
everything would be okay we could put it out quickly here i want to ask you guys the the firefighters
sit with here is the mustache required because i've had i've seen three people in here all of which
have a mustache. Not required.
Okay. I don't think I could pull one off.
That would be my biggest deterrent to
becoming a firefighter.
I think it's part of the uniform now. You have to have
that big, look at his mustache.
That's a good mustache.
It's mustache. Well, first of all,
that's kind of women like that
now. Yeah. All it's in.
Women, the mustache, when we, it's gone
through cycles. Like when we were kids,
mustaches were it.
Then it went through a period where it was like,
no, that's not good. And now it's
back I think she was magnum PI you know like when we were younger that I think that Tom
Selick was the reason that mustaches were in there now all these country singers yeah I feel like we
hang out here long enough like by the end of the day when we leave we all have mustaches so
thank you to the Lexton fire department for having us here this is a very cool situation and
you know you just you were able to walk here today weren't you well I was going to but the weather
kind of stunk today it's snowing right now see how he could Ryan can't walk in the snow
he couldn't be a firefight back at my home you don't think that they're going to have
to go fight a fire right now? Well, these guys are heroes. I'm a wussy. All right, let me,
that's that is true. That is true. All right, let me, can I tell you some facts I learned today,
Shand? Yeah. About firefighting. This was interesting to me. First of all, 24 hours on,
48 hours off. They showed me back there, the board where you can see all the calls coming in,
and you see who gets sent out, like right while we were here. There are five calls out somewhere.
Every firefighter is trained as an EMT because, you know, when you called 911 and an ambulance comes, maybe I should have known this.
I didn't know everybody that came that came through the fire department.
I mean, I knew I've seen fire trucks and stuff, but I didn't realize if you called 911 when an ambulance came, everything comes through the fire department.
Did you know that?
Yeah, I did.
You're smart.
I had family in the fire department.
I didn't know.
Now, this is the thing I learned that I want to see change.
how many ambulances do you think we have in the city of Lexington?
How many or how many do you think we should have?
We should have over 100.
Nice round number.
Now that's a lot of ambulances.
That is a lot.
All right.
So over a hundred, you say we should have over a hundred.
How many do you think we should have?
I'm going to say we probably have closer to half of that number.
I'm going to say around 50.
50.
Rick, how many ambulances do you think the city of Lexington has?
Well, I was going to say 50 before Shannon said it.
So I'm going to say 50.
So Rick was going to say 50 before you.
All right.
So you think over 100 and you think 50.
Rick thinks 50.
This blew my mind.
And I would argue this needs to be changed.
Do you know we only have 12?
That's insane.
That sounds like a problem.
12.
Because like even if I saw a wreck last night on Harrisburg Road, they were two there.
Okay.
So now you're down to 10.
Now you're down to 10 for the rest of the city.
You just said you had five out, right?
Well, yeah.
I mean, well, there's other stuff.
Yeah, sure.
12.
Wow.
Apparently of in America, the 40 busiest individual ambulances in America,
11 of the 40 were here in Lexington.
So it feels like we might be a little understaffed on ambulances.
You, once again, way off.
Well, I think, but I feel like I speak like, yeah, we definitely need more.
I mean, it would seem to me we need, we should get more than 12.
I mean, if we had a hundred.
When you get a flat tire, now you're down to 11th.
I mean, if we had 100, I don't think it would be crazy, you know.
No, I would have, if you had asked me, I would have said like 40.
Yeah.
And we have 12.
Well, so anyway, for what it's worth, it feels like that's something maybe we should work on.
Lieutenant Gavin said they're going to actually have an ambulance that's going to be stationed here very soon, right?
And that'll be 13.
Wow.
Maybe.
Well, no, it would be one of the 12.
We're going to move them.
What, 250,000 people and we have 12?
More than that.
I think we have now have like 350,000 people.
That sounds like a problem that needs to be addressed.
So, anyway, we are here at the fire to.
Thank you very much for having it. It is an ask anything Wednesday, which means you can ask anything.
Or excuse me, it's Thursday. So it's an ask anything Thursday that we're Wednesday that we move to Thursday.
Gotcha. Okay. Now, sometimes this happens. You know, I try to figure out what we're going to talk about.
Usually there's a big story. But then sometimes Shannon there are days where there's a lot of little stories, but there's nothing that sort of really coalesce.
So I've written down 12 topics, as you know I'm apt to do.
Yes. Drew is on his way to Austin, Texas.
So he's not here.
So with the 12 topics, I thought, rather than me try to guess before ask anything calls what it is that we want to talk about, let's just do the random.
Okay, I like this.
You're going to pick a number one through 12.
Okay.
And whatever you get is what I'm going to start to show on.
It might be something sports related or you might end up picking something random.
And if the listeners don't like it, it's your fault.
The same number of topics as we have ambulances in the life.
I was about to say that.
So in honor of the 12 ambulances that we have,
let's go number 12 to start off.
Number 12.
Okay.
This was not the one I would have selected,
but nevertheless,
it was the one you picked.
So you know how you'll have an election
and people will go,
my guy didn't win.
I'm leaving the country.
By the way, no one ever leaves them.
No, we heard that.
They always say that.
Everybody's like, I'm leaving the country.
What people realize, I went to Europe for a long time,
it was awesome.
You still would rather live here.
They got a lot more stuff here.
Like everybody always acts like America.
Like they're on one side and they'll go,
oh, the guy's president.
America stinks.
And then they'll do the same.
It's great.
All right.
It's always celebrities.
It's usually musicians.
It's usually, it's going to be celebrities, but.
And not to get all philosophical,
but in the grand course of human history,
those of us sitting here right now,
we live better lives than 99.9% of the humans that have ever walked this earth.
Amen to that.
That's honestly true.
We are like the luckiest group of people to really ever exist on the planet.
So with that said, but some people don't realize that.
So their person loses the election, they go, I'm leaving.
So a cruise company, okay, a cruise company decided to try to like take advantage of that.
Okay.
And they have said that for people who are mad about the person that won the presidency,
and they were doing this no matter who won.
They were going to offer a four-year cruise.
Oh, my goodness.
You could cruise around the world for four years.
And you could get, so basically it's four years.
You take two weeks off around Christmas so you can go remind your family you exist.
And then you get right back on.
It will go from North America all the way around the world.
You'll hit South America, Europe, Africa, Asia,
and then you come back, in theory, four years later, refreshed, and you've been everywhere.
And if you get to a place and you like it, they'll have ways that you could hop on in one place,
stay a couple weeks, hop back on.
So here's my question for you.
Obviously, the charge would be absurd.
So let's move the charge out of it.
Let's say money were no option.
If someone offered you that, would you want to do it?
Right.
No way.
I've been on several cruises, four day, five day.
I am so ready to get off that ship after four or five days.
Well, you could get out.
Like, they'll stop every couple days in a place,
and you can go visit twice.
You're not on the physical boat the whole time.
They're destinations and all of that.
I couldn't do it.
I would enjoy it for a while,
but there's no way I can do it for four years.
You couldn't do it for four years.
What if I told you you got to see the entire earth?
You would be, like, since, like, Magellan,
the person who had circumnavigated the world as much as anybody.
would be the most cultured person in your friend group.
If you can do it within a week, I'm in.
40 years.
If you can do the whole world within a week.
Around the world in one week.
I'm in.
Count me in.
How big do you think the world is?
That's a different novel than the one we read when we were a kid.
Around the world.
It's a small world.
Literally for Ryan.
That's why Ryan goes to Epcot.
He tries to get it done.
Why not?
He tries to get it done in seven days.
Like, I'm here.
I went to Germany, then Japan?
Okay.
Shannon, which would you want to do?
do that. I have never been on a cruise before. The idea of being on a ship stuck with people I don't know
sounds absolutely miserable. It sounds like hell. I can maybe tolerate it for two or three days,
but four years there is no way. I don't care where you stopped. I would not be able to do that.
Okay. What about you? Do you think you could do it? You've been on a cruise.
I had. Well, we went on the KSR cruise to Alaska, which was fun. I wouldn't want to be on the cruise part.
Okay. Yeah.
Leave aside.
I wouldn't want to leave like, I wouldn't want to not see my parents for that long,
but leave that part aside.
And if you could make it to where I could travel around the world and stay in nice hotels
and, like, drive.
Because I'm with you being on the boat.
It's rocky.
You know, people smell and, like, they're all packed up next to each other.
You're seasick.
You're seasick.
Take that out.
The idea of doing something like that, I think, would.
be the most fun thing in the world. I mean, yeah, the idea of seeing like the world. But I wouldn't want
to literally be on the boat for that long because I don't really like boats. What if they had
private jets and they'd fly you from port to port instead of... Yes. I mean, that's a completely different
scenario. I mean, that's a different trip. You're just basically saying would you want to live a life of
luxury for four years? Like a billionaire. I still don't know if I could be gone for four years.
So you're telling me I could give you a private jet that at your disposal, you could go anywhere
in the world, with the caveat you have to go everywhere in the world.
And the jet will fly you there every time.
You still wouldn't want to do that.
You'd want to stay so that you can go eat at Rodney's in Georgetown.
I think four years is a lot.
I don't know if I can go that long without seeing my kids, my parents.
Okay, let's just assume.
Your kids and your parents can come.
Oh, that's a lot.
I don't know if I want my kids alone.
And that's how Ryan retires from radio right there.
So you both don't want to go and leave your kids and parents, but you also don't want them to go with you.
No, they can come from one leg like we go from Italy to Germany.
They can bring along for that leg.
And then send them back home.
And then send them back.
Okay.
All right.
Well, there you go.
A very unique.
Ryan loves his family.
A little bit.
A little bit.
Sort of.

Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at the Lexington Fire Department.
Just, well, first of all, I got a couple comments.
One person writes, Matt, my son works at the St. Matthews Fire Department.
Thanks for highlighting all of our firefighters around the state today.
Yes, big shout out to the firefighters.
I didn't realize how much they did until, what, would,
your name again, sir?
Ricky told me today.
I didn't realize that they went out on all the medical runs, that they all were EMT train.
He's also a paramedic.
Like, I didn't realize that they did all that.
It was a good thing to learn.
And I didn't realize we only have 12 ambulances.
We need to fix that.
Dude, these guys are heroes.
I mean, they are.
They put their life on the line every single day.
Because people like you leave your things on.
Your house catches on fire.
But you know, you're right when you were kids and the firefighters would bring their truck to the elementary school
and you're all like wide-eyed.
I was trying my best.
I was trying my best, Shannon, to not ask if there was a pole.
Because I knew they probably get asked that all the time.
And I was like, I know that's a corny question.
So I was kind of looking around, hoping to see it.
And this new one that doesn't have a pole.
So.
Yeah, he's some of the older stations still have one.
But they don't have one.
But I wanted to ask.
Because we wanted to send Ryan down the pole.
They told me an interesting fact.
Here's another interesting fact about the firemen and mustache.
Yeah.
Why they have so many mustache.
He said in the late 1800s, you know, people back then would have the big mustache, right?
Oh, yeah.
And they learned that, like, they would take a mustache, they would wet it, okay?
Yeah.
Like, get water all on it.
Then pull, like, a bandana up and use it when they went in it as a way to kind of keep smoke out.
So the mustache would actually be wet so that you kept yourself from inhaling smoke.
And then it just became a thing associated with firefighters.
And he also said that it's generally considered all.
All firefighters will get mustaches, and if you don't get one, the assumption is your wife wouldn't let you.
Oh.
So it's an asset and a fashion statement, though, at the same time.
But it's also kind of like a scarlet letter if you don't get one, like he's split.
You know who wears the pants that family.
Exactly.
Well, now I'm going to look every single time and remember that story.
That's exactly right.
Next time you see a firefighter without.
All these guys check out.
That's exactly.
Next time you see a firefighter without a mustache.
What do we know, Shannon?
Hey, they're worse.
That's right.
What's that sound?
That's not the sound.
Yeah, I mean, you're whipped.
I think just the whips is good enough.
I don't know the cat sound was necessary.
We're off the rails already.
Good.
This is the kind of show.
Wait until we go to Seattle.
We're on the road and people are not,
we don't have an audience.
This is where we lose ourselves.
It happens every time.
I told Matt, I looked up the weather in Platt, South Dakota,
for the day we're supposed to be there.
Very cold, but no snow.
We've moved, by the way, from Burke, South Dakota to Platt, South Dakota.
For those of you...
What that's supposed to mean something to me?
Well, I'm just...
For people out there listening, we've moved, and we're doing the show off a ranch in...
In Platt, or, you know, between Platt and Burke, South Dakota.
You could drop me off anywhere in the Midwest.
It all looks the same.
We're also going to be given a tour of a Native American reservation, which I'm actually kind of excited about, because I've never...
been to anything like that. That would be cool.
Neither have I.
All right. Before we go, the phones, Shannon, we're down to 11 topics.
Okay.
One through 11.
Let's go number three.
Antonio Reeves last night.
Yeah.
How about that?
Antonio Reeves last night.
34 points, 14 of 25 shooting only made one three.
That's what's amazing to me.
34 points only made one three.
Now, the Pelicans, like their top four players were injured.
So they just were kind of playing, and they were playing the best team in the league.
So it was kind of like, we're not going to have a chance.
They gave him run, though.
And I watched some of the game.
The dude played amazing, like amazing.
He was smooth, got to the rim.
The announcers were going crazy.
They started calling him Huggy Bear for some reason that I didn't understand.
The announcer just goes, I like to give nicknames.
I'm calling him Huggy Bear.
And I bet Antonio Reeves was like, do I get a say in this?
I always believed it was ridiculous that dude went in the second round.
And then I found out the coach for the Pelicans in charge of working with rookies is Jody Meeks,
which means Antonio Reeves has been working with Jody Meeks, and it pays off with 34 points.
When I saw that he had scored 34 points, I just naturally assumed he hit seven or eight threes.
I couldn't believe he just hit one three.
So hopefully he's earned his striped and they'll keep him on the roster,
even when these guys come back.
You got to think he at least makes the roster, Shannon.
And I would say you got to think he makes the rotation, 34 points.
I cannot be happier for him.
We all knew he was going to get his opportunity at some point.
The question is, when you get that opportunity, do you shine or do you not?
And in this case, he was, I mean, he couldn't have been better than he was last night.
I just love to see he wasn't scared, right?
Clearly, like, I know it was a game they got destroyed and they're playing with a team that's, but he wasn't scared.
He got in and he looked like he was feeling it.
And I saw there have been four rookies get 30 points in a game.
One's Dalton Connect, who's been killing it with the Lakers.
One's Jared McLean, who's been killing it with the 76ers.
One is Risa Shea, who was the number one overall pick, and now Antonio Reeves.
And I feel like that's pretty good company to be in.
A guy who's like probably going to be the rookie of the year in Dalton Connect,
a guy McLean who's played great.
And then the number one pick, if I'm Antonio Reeves,
I'm the only dude not picked in the first round on that list.
I've got to be pretty happy.
And he's got to probably know that I, you know, play with a chip on my shoulder.
I've got to prove these people.
I deserve to be up here.
I deserve to be on the roster.
So hopefully he'll stay there now.
I think the NBA has got to realize, like, the bias against older players, why?
Those are the ones that are killing it this year, Sam.
Yeah, he's more mature.
And, I mean, that's an absolute steal to take him in the second round.
47.
All those teams that passed him by looking foolish after last night.
By the way, he had like 20 at halftime.
I mean, it really was an unbelievable performance.
Who's up first?
Steve is up first.
Steve, what's up, Steve?
I'd ask anything Thursday.
I think I called it like four different days in the last segment.
Yeah, it's the first time you got the day right.
I was making sure to check my calendar there for a minute.
But, yeah, first shout out to my brother Ricky there with a beautiful mustache.
Oh, Ricky was the one that gave me the tour, yes.
Yeah, yeah, he's a great guy, but appreciate all the firemen, Lexington, and around the state and throughout the country.
But on my way to Austin,
currently drinking beer and we're out right now.
I'm excited for the trip.
Is it in the car?
I think that's not a while.
Wow.
Look, I'll put your phone down.
Yeah.
And your beer done.
Yeah.
But my question is, you know, Matt, we know you can beat up
like 93-year-old ladies on cycling.
And you think you can put on some fire gear and do some of their tests.
There's very few jobs.
There's very few jobs that I would be worse at than this.
I actually think I would be a better police officer than this,
because at least you need to know the law.
Like, I might not be a guy you send on the tough runs,
but I could figure out, like, how do we collect evidence and stuff?
I don't think there's anything these people do that I would be good at.
You could drive, maybe.
You love to drive.
Okay, yes.
There's only one way to find out.
Honk at people.
Appreciate the call.
The idea that I, now you got me excited.
Yeah.
The idea that I could take one of these rigs, put the siren on, people got to get out of the way, and I can swerve in and out of lanes.
Now, you're right.
If I could drive only, once I get there, I leave.
Could you parallel park this big truck?
Yes.
You could?
I could.
Okay.
But when it comes to, like, going in the house, no.
Well, you know, they're hiring.
The blood, no.
But if it was driver only, Ryan, now I'm excited.
We just found your dream job, be able to get through traffic any way you want to.
Get out of my way.
Get out of the way.
That would be awesome.
We'll take a break.
Be right back here at the Lexington Fire Department.
It's Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio.

I'm just LFD hiring.
We've got folks writing in on the text machine.
It's Ask Anything Thursday.
I tell you what, you know, instead of me selecting them, Shannon, give me a one through nine.
Give me a number eight.
Number eight.
Does the fire station where you're at have a Dalmatian?
No Dalmatian.
They're ceramic.
Ceramic.
So that's a thing you see in like movies and stuff and they put the little hat on them and all that.
I don't know the origin of that, I guess, just from.
You do?
Tell me during the break.
Well, I will get the origin.
Yeah, do people have Dalmatians in real life?
My brother had two.
What a question.
Where do you think they all go?
But I've never seen one in someone's house.
Do you know someone with the Dalmatians?
No, but I mean.
Okay, I understand theoretically they exist.
I'm asking you, have you ever seen anyone who had a Dalmatian?
Yeah, my brother had two.
Okay, so that's the answer.
Why's everybody act like this?
So you've seen your brother had too.
Yeah.
Are they expensive?
Are they hard to get?
I don't think so, but they're pretty high-strung, some of them.
Are they?
Yeah.
Okay.
All right.
You pick one, one through nine.
Number four.
Number four.
Let's see.
Matt, you own a wrestling company, lawyer, radio personality.
How rich is Uncle Matt?
That's not a very nice question.
Yeah, people you don't talk about.
People who have, you don't talk about money.
No.
Like when somebody tells you how much money they have, that says to me they don't have money.
People who have money, they don't tell you how much money they have because that's not like, that's not cooth.
No.
So when I see, when I hear personalities like going, I got so much money, then I'm like, well, you don't have any money.
People who have money still have to pay their bills.
So they always need more money to know what you have.
Yeah.
Right?
That's right.
Yeah.
You've got bills to pay.
I just sent out that picture.
You look good with the helmet on there, Matt.
You look almost like a natural.
Show him.
No, I mean, it looks good.
I'm being serious.
Look.
Oh, yeah, that definitely looks.
I definitely looked quite quite.
Thank you.
He looks like he's 12.
Thank you for,
thank you for putting that out.
I appreciate that.
I was, I was hoping that would.
I was trying to give you a couple, man.
Yeah, I don't think you meant it.
Come on now.
That was just, that's terrible.
Why'd you have to do that?
All right.
Let's, one through, well, actually,
let's take a couple calls.
Who's up next?
Mike is up next.
Mike, go ahead, Mike.
Good morning, Matt.
I wanted to go back to, yeah, I wanted to go back to the kind of the Duke game.
Do you guys feel that you're, I still hate Duke, but is your hatred of Duke not as much?
Because mine was really seated in my hatred of Coach Kay.
The other one was the fact that they have, now that they have pretty much eliminated the charge and all that flopping, you know, you don't see
with Duke anymore and that's nice to see.
I think that's a really, by the way, for those of you hear
the sound, they're backing a fire truck in here.
I actually think that's a good
point. I appreciate the call. I don't
necessarily hate Duke as much
as I used to. I don't like them.
But there was the time
I like passionately wanted
them to lose every game.
And I don't think about it like that.
And probably as Coach Gay's gone,
they also get a different kind of player.
I always thought they had a player
for many years that to me was the most
annoying kind of player and now they're kind of recruiting top talent. So I disliked them,
but I don't know that I hate them like I did in the K era. Yeah, they don't have those
snotty dudes that were easy to dislike anymore. You know, I think even when they had Zion
and RJ Barrett, they were a fun team to watch that year, you know?
No, they definitely were. I wanted them to lose that year, too. Also, I think the fact, Shannon,
that they haven't been as dominant. Yeah. I mean, they're still very good, but they're not the
dominant program as they were for many years. That also helps. Cooper Flax seemed kind of snoddy to me.
I didn't like him. He is not. Watching him the other day. He's good. But to me, it's Duke,
and it always will be Duke and will always hate Duke. I mean, there's still my third biggest hated team.
Yeah. It's still Louisville, Tennessee, Duke. Although this year, honestly, it's probably Arkansas,
Louisville, Tennessee. That's interesting. Maybe Louisville, Arkansas, Tennessee.
Like, when Arkansas plays Tennessee, who are you going to be for?
Tennessee, probably.
I think I'm going to root for Tennessee.
I am, which is crazy, but I think I am.
If Arkansas played Louisville, I think I'd root for Louisville this year.
I don't think it'll be like that.
I honestly think I would, which is crazy for me to think about.
But if Arkansas was playing Louisville, I mean, Tennessee played Louisville a couple weeks ago.
And as I watched the game, I was pulling for Tennessee.
So it's clear to me I like, like I hate Louisville more than I hate.
Tennessee but I kind of think if Arkansas was playing them this year I think I
would cheer for Tennessee and Louisville Ryan I think you have to you have to want
Arkansas to lose especially if they're playing Louisville we're gonna beat Louisville
that you know they're not very good you want Louisville to upset and beat a good
Arkansas team but you want everybody on Arkansas to do well because of their former
players here you said it just a couple of weeks ago I said I found myself
pulling for him in that game for me though I've always hated
Arkansas going back to the 90s.
Nolan Richardson,
Colerriss Williams,
always hated Scotty Thurman,
hated all those guys.
So for me, it's nothing new.
I just hate them a little bit more
now that Calipari is the coach.
Yeah, it is interesting.
Who's next?
Bill is up next.
Bill, go ahead, Bill.
Good morning, guys.
I had just a quick point
and then a question, Matt,
about milk that I want you to answer.
First.
Okay.
I would argue yesterday,
Drew made the point of
or he asked where we were.
were adding the great, good drunk. I would argue that we probably went through all three phases
with cow. We were great at the beginning. We tapered off the good, and most of us had to be drunk
to watch the last few years. Oh, wow. Okay. All right. There you go. I like it. That's a good
whiskey thief call today. Go ahead. And then secondly, I have to know if I'm a psychopath or not.
I have a one-year-old that's about to turn two and she drinks milk at night. Sometimes she wakes up at two
in the morning, and I take a big couple chugs out of the jug. Am I a psychopath or not?
Because it's the middle of the night.
You're up.
You're just grabbing something.
I wouldn't put you in cycle path territory.
I wouldn't be watching you a little bit to make sure.
But if you, however, if it was 8 o'clock and you're like Kentucky's playing basketball, honey, pour me a glass of milk, then we're in the psychopath territory.
He said something.
I'm going to ask you.
Appreciate the call.
He said he took a couple swigs out of the jug.
Are you okay if you're, it's your own family?
If you take straight out of the jug and then put the jug back in the refrigerator,
or you want to have to pour it in a glass every time.
Also, milk that you drink as a baby is formula milk.
I would think that an adult is not drinking formula milk.
You may be psyched if you're doing that.
I'm okay with it.
Like, you know, I'm not married.
So if it was my house, then that's fine.
I have the jug, put the jug back.
Yeah, I'm fine with it.
All right, Shannon, 1 through 10.
All right.
Number one.
Number one.
Well, this is going to be a little bit of a longer conversation.
conversation. But Mark Stubes yesterday said that he wanted everyone to be clear that he, while he
doesn't love the new NIL era, he's ready for it and he's ready to figure out how to do it.
It felt like to me a response to, if not me, specifically, but people like me saying, dude,
are you ready for this era or not? He seemed to almost directly address that yesterday.
Very sort of direct comments like, I get this is what it is and it's time to go get it.
After the show yesterday, you know, I talked yesterday about boosters and the fact that if you give money, et cetera.
I had somebody tell me something that I did not know, but somebody that's involved in the NIL space for UK,
specifically on the football side more than the basketball, that said to me that Eddie Grant,
who kind of is heading up NIL efforts for UK, has secured, I guess, promises or, or,
contracts, I don't know specific phrase, but with companies to create a consistent company in I.L.
Like kind of what we thought NIO would be, where people did endorsements of up to $2 million a year of pledges,
that they don't think it's sustainable long term to go to individuals and ask for $100,000, $200,000,
but that companies could use it for advertising, et cetera, and they feel good that UK is doing that
so that it can go over a period of time.
I thought that sounded like really good news,
but also news that says Stoops probably ain't going anywhere
if he's securing corporate funding for the next few years.
Makes total sense, doesn't it?
When you think of it like that like that,
and yeah, it does seem like if they're going to make that effort
to try to secure that money,
that's pretty security for him to want to stay here and keep coaching.
And just leave Stoops out of it.
The corporate route is the route.
Because you can't just keep going to individuals and going,
Give me a million dollars.
I mean, there's going to come a point, especially when you go four and eight, where people are going to go,
I ain't going to continue to give you this money to beat Murray State.
That's not sustainable long term, but that's something that I needed to hear from Stoops,
that he is going to be in it for the long run because, you know, everything that we've been hearing
sounds like a tired, beaten down coach who just doesn't like the NIL situation.
It's not going anywhere, so you might as well adapt.
I was leaning a few weeks ago to I thought this would be his last year.
Unless he's just lying, all of his state.
are going in the other direction.
Yep.
So I now would say I lean towards him being back,
but I will say, man, for the fan base,
these next couple weeks are going to be big.
Just how they play.
I think beating Louisville is going to be huge.
If they lose to Louisville,
especially considering that Louisville has kind of not had the year
Louisville thought they would,
I don't think that'll be great.

Welcome back, Indianapolis, Kentucky Sports Radio, here at the Lexington Fire Department.
Lexington Fire Department has excellent benefits.
You get paid while training at the academy.
That's good.
And 24 hours on, 48 hours off schedule.
I think I would like the 24 hours on 48 hours.
You get to two days where you're not working.
And then during the 24 hours, Shannon, it's almost like a sleepover.
That's right, yeah.
I can have a lot of fun while you're just waiting in between calls here.
Yeah, just get a basketball game going here.
Somebody already bent that rim.
I would say somebody needs to fix the goal.
It's a little crooked.
But that's all right.
Otherwise, it would be fun.
Now, I see a guy over there, no mustache.
Uh-oh.
No mustache.
Are you married, sir?
Which.
No, sir.
Oh, so he's still scout.
I think he's got more options.
He's got what you just can't see.
He's got a Billy mustache.
He's got a Billy mustache.
That's all right.
You know what?
Don't let him pick on you, sir.
I couldn't grow a mustache either.
I wouldn't do that.
Let's go the text machine.
So to be fair, to people, let's go, Shannon, one through nine.
All right.
Number seven.
Number seven.
I would like to know from all of you, what is the amount of money you think makes someone rich?
It's interesting.
What do you think, Shannon?
I'm like, how much money would someone have to be worth for you to consider them rich?
$1 million.
You'd have to be a millionaire.
But I realize.
$1 million.
But I realize there are millions of millionaires that exist.
So it's not really as impressive.
Are there millions in America?
I don't know if there's millions in America.
Worldwide, I would say.
Worldwide, for sure there is.
So I don't know that being a millionaire means what it did, you know, 20, 30 years ago.
You would still say a million dollars.
Right.
Right.
Right.
Right.
That's the first number I thought of.
Then I got to thinking, you know, you could be, if you have,
half a million, and you're happy, you're rich to me.
Please.
But what makes them rich?
Well, I mean, there's people, though, who are happy who have no money.
Are they rich, too?
In their heart?
It reminds me of the woman in Middlesbrough, who I had a friend in Middlesbrough.
I'm not going to say anybody's name because some of that family listens to this show.
But I had a friend who one time he moved from Catholic private school to public school.
Okay.
And his family was a little worried, like, are the public school kids going to think he stuck up?
Yeah.
For being a private school.
So I was friends with him.
He got to the public school, which I'd been in the whole time.
And most people were very nice to him, but some of them were kind of picking at him.
And there was one dude in particular that was kind of bullying him a little bit and called him a rich boy.
Yeah.
He was like, hey, rich boy.
And, you know, in Middlesbrough, that was kind of put down.
You wanted to be a rich boy in Middlesbrough.
So after school, we were like in seventh grade.
And after school, we go to his house.
And they say, you know, his mom was like, why do you like Middlesboro Middle School?
And he was like, eh, it's all right.
He was like, this one kid calls me a rich boy.
His mom looked at him and said, the next time he says that to you, you say,
it doesn't matter whether I'm rich in money.
I'm rich in friendship, love, and happiness.
Oh, that'll get him beat up.
And my friend, Kevin, goes, yeah, don't say that.
That would get him beat up.
That would definitely have gotten him beat up.
But when we say a million, does that mean you've got to have a million dollars in your bank account or you have a net worth?
Well, that would mean you're liquid.
Yeah.
You have a million dollars, that would mean you're liquid.
But I think when they do worth, it's what you overall your worth.
Minus liabilities.
Minus liability.
So like the equity in your house.
And that kind of thing.
There you go.
All right.
Who's up next?
So a couple of millionaires sitting next to me right now.
Well, I mean, the fire department may have taken some of his.
But go ahead.
Sean from Austin is up next.
Sean, go ahead.
What are you talking about?
You own like six houses.
Shut up, Shannon.
Sean, go ahead.
Got a lot of debt.
Hey, guys.
Hey, I'm super excited to go to my first UK game this Saturday.
And I think I'm going to be wearing my cats gear out there.
I want to link up you guys.
just check in, say hi, where can I find you?
Well, Drew will be there Saturday.
We will not.
So we're staying here.
But Drew is in Austin, and I'm sure he'll send out where he is at some point, but he'll be down there.
Okay, right on, Drew, if you need to hook up, give me a shout.
All right, appreciate the call.
How about this?
So let's mention about the Texas game.
First of all, I got sent a picture from the Louisville Airport security line this morning.
I'd say half the people in line were wearing blue.
No kidding.
That's occurring.
So that says to me maybe a decent little crowd of people going to Austin.
But the craziest statistic of all, and this has even gone nationally,
is the game Saturday will be the farthest west Kentucky has ever played a football game in its history.
Never realized that.
Never played a game west of Austin.
That's crazy.
It is crazy.
Isn't that insane?
So what was the previous farm? Columbia, Missouri.
Austin.
They played there in 1951.
They did.
But besides that, they've never played farther west than Austin.
I think they played a couple of Pac-12 teams, but it was in Kentucky.
That's kind of amazing because there's a lot of country out there, and we've just never gone past Austin, Texas.
They think maybe even just in a bowl game.
But if you think about it, the SEC bowls are never out there.
No.
You know, now the SEC plays in the Las Vegas Bowl,
so potentially you could go to Las Vegas.
But for the most part, never been there.
We need to venture out a little bit more.
Well, we're venturing to Seattle on the...
That's true.
Basketball in a couple weeks.
Are you...
You know, we've never played Texas.
Are you excited to add that to our rotation?
Next year, of course, they're coming here.
Yeah, no doubt about it.
And I think that's why there's a lot of blue in line at the airport going,
because when that schedule came out and people saw they were going to Texas,
never been.
So I think people flooded, bought tickets right then
when soon as the schedule came out,
because they want to go,
you know, the first time we went to Texas A&M,
we had a big crowd.
You know, now we're the first time we're going to Texas,
they'll be a big crowd.
First time we go to Oklahoma,
they'll probably be a big crowd.
Do you think this is more of a reflection
of the location they're playing at?
Or do you think it's more of the fans
are still on board with this football team?
No, I think the first time we go to Oklahoma,
it'll be the same way.
I think there'll be a lot of people, you know,
I think especially for the football fans,
there's a lot of people who want to go to
every stadium as a football fan, right, in the SEC.
And, you know, they've had their lifetime to go to the other ones, and we've never done
this one.
So I think there's a big crowd that are going to this one.
And I think in a couple years when we play Oklahoma for the first time, you'll see a
big crowd go to Norman.
