Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42.
Starting point is 00:01:58 A rep. My mama want you to wave at her. Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Clipper Show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. A-Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-7-745-24.
Starting point is 00:03:42 And this is sponsored by the T.J. Smith-L. It's called DJL Make-M Pay. We are here at the KS Bar and Grill. We'll be here today. We'll also be here at the pregame show from 4 to 5. Remember, Kentucky plays Western in the championship of the historic BBN Invitational. You've been following the tournament for a number of weeks. It all comes down to this.
Starting point is 00:04:02 Kentucky and Western to decide who. gets to be the BBN tonight at the BBN invitational, but the game is at 630. It is on the SEC network. It's a little earlier than usual. It's at 6.30, and that is tonight. Tomorrow, by the way, we were supposed to be in Glasgow, but that's now gotten changed. We will be in studio in Lexington, so we will not be in Glasgow. We will make that up, and we will go at some point probably in December to Glasgow.
Starting point is 00:04:30 But we will be here tomorrow. I've got Ryan. I got Shannon, got Drew. Guys, we have a couple here. I just met. How long you guys have been married? 37 years. They're from Marshall County, Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:04:44 They're in town. They're going to the Kentucky game tonight against Western. First UK basketball game for both of them. They said it was a bucket list night tonight against Western. How neat is that? Great. We love seeing people like that that come in. You're doing it right.
Starting point is 00:04:57 Come to the show first, go to the game tonight. They know our friend Harold. Rest in peace. They knew him from down to Marshall County. How about that 37 years? and they're getting to come see Kentucky and Western tonight. Had to be there for the finals of the BBN Invitation. Well, you all knew that.
Starting point is 00:05:11 You couldn't miss that. That historic tournament. So that's neat. I hope you guys have a fun evening tonight in your first trip. It's very cool. I'm sure they will have a fun evening and talk to them. It sounds like all of us have a perfect bracket in the BBN invitation. So far, we all had,
Starting point is 00:05:26 by the way, Jackson State and Lipskin are playing tonight for third place. All they are. They're playing. So for those of you that also care about your conference, consolation games in the BB in tournament. They're playing for third place tonight. I almost wish it was in Rup Arena, have a double header. I don't.
Starting point is 00:05:42 I feel like they're good. I feel like wherever they're playing. It's a good place for them to be tonight. You know, I'm all right with that. The women are in the Music City Classic at, what's that, Treveca Nazarene? Yeah. So the women play tonight at 4.30. So for those of you that come to KS. Barr, for the pregame,
Starting point is 00:06:00 we'll have the women's game on the computer on our screens during the pregame show. They play somebody, Arizona State. And then they'll play tomorrow against Illinois at 8 o'clock. So a little back-to-back Thanksgiving women's treat. Yeah, I didn't realize the women are playing back-to-back
Starting point is 00:06:19 days here Tuesday. In Nashville. In Nashville, both those games. At some point, we'll talk about the whole holiday tournament thing is changing. Like, enjoy the Maui Invitational and the Bahamas tournament this year.
Starting point is 00:06:35 while they're going to exist, it's all going to be existing in a different form. The days of eight teams going to one place and playing three games, I think, are about to end. Well, you're going to see a lot of tournaments like the women's team is playing in right now, where they take, they go to a neutral site, play two games, and then the third game of the tournament is just on your home floor. Guarantees you a game at your home, and then you play two games somewhere else. So, for instance, Duke is playing Kansas in Vegas tonight. Then they're playing somebody else like St. Louis or something in the next game.
Starting point is 00:07:12 And then one of the games is at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The whole tournament is set up just to have Duke play Kansas. I think that's what you're going to start to see. Probably us as well. We'll play in a four-team tournament that basically is set up for you to play a marquee game on a neutral floor. And then the other games drew on your home court. Yeah, we're kind of doing that now without the marquee. We just don't have the marquee game.
Starting point is 00:07:35 These small round robins. I think that's not as good as the Maui Invitational, but it's better than the BBN Invitational. It's almost like a middle ground. But if you look at the Maui Invitational Field next year, much worse than the field this year. Is it really? I mean, this year they have a heck of a field. Yes, they do. They have Yukon, North Carolina, Michigan State, Auburn, and Iowa State.
Starting point is 00:07:57 That's a heck of a field. Yeah. Next year, the field doesn't look like that. I watched all those games yesterday, just a full set of basketball in the background. I love it. I was doing. That was some great basketball. So I want to talk about those games in a minute.
Starting point is 00:08:10 I don't want to go into them yet. But I think we should start with what is the biggest news in Big Blue Nation. And that is that we're leaving on our trip on Sunday. Five days. Yeah, so we leave Sunday. So first of all, we're going to be doing my ESPN pregame show in Cincinnati at Jefferson Social, which I guess is there on the streets on the banks, right? Do you know that place?
Starting point is 00:08:36 Not familiar? I know the banks a little bit and I know the area, but not familiar with that specific place. So it's like right across from Tenroof apparently. ESPN picked it. It's called Jefferson Social. So my first request is those of you in the northern Kentucky Cincinnati area, come say hi to us, even if it's just for a few minutes. On your way to the Bengals game, just like walking through town,
Starting point is 00:08:54 come say hi, meet Myron, show my ESPN boss that someone does like us. In Kentucky, you know, that would be nice, right? That would be very nice. Come see us. It'll be open. I'm sure there'll be people there for the game. For the game. But we will be there that's from 10 to 1.
Starting point is 00:09:12 You all are going to be there as well because you're going to drive up with me in the morning. You can hang out there. You all don't drink too much because we have a long drive ahead of us. I'm looking at you, Ryan. Don't look at me. What do you mean? You're always the one that drinks too much. Not in the middle of the day.
Starting point is 00:09:27 I'm not. It's that. Shannon, I don't know that I don't know that I have. the same memory of that. Do you? I don't know. You never know what Ryan's going to do. So, but then we will get in the car as soon as it's over, take off likely headed to Iowa City. Are you ready? Ready? So what do we do for the three hours then while you're doing your show if we can't drink?
Starting point is 00:09:47 We're going to sit there. I mean, you can't. I don't want you in my car at 1 o'clock drunk. I know the look on your face. I know exactly what happened. Make sure you get all your bathroom breaks out of the way because we're not stopping between here and Iowa City. Okay, well, I have something to say about that for a minute. Because I, you know, one of the things I don't like, Drew, is when we talk about this trip. What does this goober always say? We eat with Matt weeks, we drink with Matt drinks, and pee when Matt wants to pee.
Starting point is 00:10:10 I hate that. Yeah. First of all, it's not true. It is very true. Secondly, I don't like that he says it. So I'm going on record with something. Okay. Because I'm tired.
Starting point is 00:10:18 We have the same conversation everywhere we go. Because you all say, Matt always picks the meals. But then when I let you all pick the meals, nobody's ever able to pick one. And we just sit there, and then I have to pick one for someone's to go. So we're going to put assignments on. All right. Everybody's going to have a side. The meals are rotating.
Starting point is 00:10:36 Okay. So. What about P stops? That's not rotating. You're just going to have to, your bladder is going to have to work. And start a button. Anytime you need to stop. It's all about gas.
Starting point is 00:10:45 It's all about gas. We stop when there's gas. We do have a good system about gas. We take turns. Yes. We're going to do the same thing with meals. So when we get somewhere, we'll go by alphabetical order. This is a Drew meal.
Starting point is 00:10:58 Okay. this is a map meal this is a Mario meal this is a Ryan this is a Shannon meal got it got it it and it'll be up to you to in the town we go in there's one rule you're not taking me to a chain restaurant yeah those are right we do not drive to Denver and go to oh charlie's how about Fazolese no well Fazolese I'll do for you because it's you're obsessive about it but we're not doing chain meals drew can you agree with me on big on this rule too why would I go to a place never see again and eat food I can get anywhere. Yes.
Starting point is 00:11:31 Don't what do you. You always want to go to Wendy's when we're in Albuquerque. And it's like they have other things. So when we pick a town, you will be able to pick the place, but you can't pick a chain restaurant. Gotcha. So that way, I don't have to listen to all that. We're going to enjoy our trip with that caveat.
Starting point is 00:11:54 No hooters either, or maybe a one hooters. I'll give him a one hooters. Hooters a week. We'll give you a one hooters a week, but you don't get a hooters and a Twin Peaks. You get one of them. You get one of those establishments. That's it. So don't give me Platt, South Dakota.
Starting point is 00:12:13 I don't think there's a hooters. No, it just goes rotation. So Drew, I just, we're going to do it alphabetically. So Drew will get the first one, wherever we are somewhere. And then I guess it's Drew, then Mario, Matt, Ryan, Shannon. And then we flip it around and go again. So basically, I won't pick till we get to. Wyoming. So you guys are ready to eat at the green door.
Starting point is 00:12:34 You can blame your parents. Blame your parents on putting you. Do you like that system? You know, in years past, we've also played the elimination game when it comes to restaurants. I've even now incorporated that into my... The elimination game is a very good game, except you always end up at Long John Silver. That's the only problem with the eliminate... For those of you, this is a good game for those of you in your lives, okay? Let's say you have five of you and you want to go to a restaurant. Oh, where do we go? each person picks a restaurant, then you pick just a common one.
Starting point is 00:13:04 So now you have six restaurants, five people, everybody gets to eliminate one, whichever's left is where you go. So you usually don't get anybody's favorite, but then Drew, you also don't get one that everybody hates. That's how we ended up at Outback in Wisconsin. None of us wanted Outback. It wasn't even really in the conversation. That's how we ended up there.
Starting point is 00:13:22 And then we ended up crying at the Outback, and it gave us a great memory, didn't it? It did. No regrets. So there's the game for our trip. I mean, we're five days away. It is really snuck up on me really fast. It's coming. I mean, we're going to leave Sunday.
Starting point is 00:13:38 And the question is, are we going to be leaving coming off a Louisville victory or a loss? Mark Stoops yesterday said he's starting cutter bowling. I was a little surprised but not shocked. I've also heard some news that I'm going to wait. until after the Kentucky Louisville game to talk about, just because, you know, there's a few days left. But when you hear that news, I think you're also going to understand maybe a little more of why Cutter Bowley is going to start. I do think Brock is the backup if they need it for any reason. They're going with Cutter Bowley. First of all, do we like the decision?
Starting point is 00:14:19 Well, I think it speaks volumes of where they're going for the future. I mean, you don't start to – you don't start – you don't start Cutter unless you think, okay, he is our quarterback of the future. And I think they understand, too, this could mean we're going to lose Brock. I think if you're looking at just the game this last week, Cutter made decisions faster, got the ball of his hands faster. I think. Do you think he gives Drew them the best chance to win the game? I do.
Starting point is 00:14:43 Yeah. One, I just think he's looked a little better. His stats are pretty impressive, even a small sample size. And then I just think it, with the team looking the way it has for song, maybe it gives them new life and they rally around them. Maybe some of the younger guys step up because they want to perform a little. little better for him. I just think kind of announcing it and then injecting a little energy in the locker room, it will give them the best fight in this last game. So we're going to take Cutter
Starting point is 00:15:05 Bowley. It's going to be exciting for the future, right? I mean, this is a Kentucky kid. He gets his first real start against Louisville. I mean, that's like, you know, you can't ask for a better situation if you're a kid from Kentucky, then get to start your first game against Louisville. I think there's a lot on the line. I'm going to tell you, I sort of went back and fourth in my head. There's one thing, I got a lot of information yesterday. A lot of people decided to info dump on me yesterday. So with an info dump, you have to decide in your final dump, whether or not it makes sense to dump before the final game, because you don't want to add distractions. True. And this happens every year, by the way. This is not unique. This is the calm
Starting point is 00:15:49 before the storm that hits Saturday, and sometimes you get some pre-calm wins. Or, you know, you get some pre-storm wins. A couple of things, I just feel like it doesn't help the situation for me to say before the game, so I'm going to wait. One thing I think won't have an effect one way or the other on the game is sort of the conversation that is kind of rallying around stoops. You know, I think there's been this kind of like Kremlin-oogist view at UK of people trying to think about what does Mark Stoops think, right?
Starting point is 00:16:27 Because he's a guy who's been very open in most of his career, and he just hasn't been this year. And there are people that are very close to him that really had no idea what he was thinking about the future. A few weeks ago, those folks started turning to the view of, I don't know if he's going to be here anymore, that like maybe this is just coming to an end. I don't know what happened.
Starting point is 00:16:52 I don't know if it's like stubbornness or if it's like he got rejuvenated. Maybe he during the off by week went to Germany and got to like LeBron does and came back. But now the assumption everybody's working with is that that dude's coming back. And that the sort of, well, he'll get bought out or maybe he'll like the caller said, become a recruiter instead of like I. Everyone at UK is under the assumption that he is going to return. I think a lot of things are getting situated like he's going to return. Now, they could go get their tail whip Saturday, and it could all change. But whereas a few weeks ago, the general thought was, I don't know, Matt, but I have a hard time seeing him return.
Starting point is 00:17:39 Now I think the assumption is, I don't know, but I feel like he's coming back. How does that make you feel going into this game? Makes me feel a little better, a little bit of some stability there that he's going to come back. So do you want that? I'm still in the boat. I want that. I want him to come back. And I think, you know, with Cutter and Wilcox,
Starting point is 00:17:57 we saw Willie Rodriguez, there's a lot of good young talent that they've got already in camp there that they could build on. Just going off his comments, it's almost like there was a flip just in how he's presenting. I think it flipped during the biweek. I don't know what happened,
Starting point is 00:18:13 but I think it flipped during the by week. There was a lot of complaining. We all know about it. We've talked about it over and over. But now it's very detailed of what he's doing next. Even last night on his calling show, he's getting very specific. As soon as the Louis game ends, what he's doing on Sunday, who he's meeting with, who he's recruiting. He was giving out a very detailed plan of what the offseason will look that did not make it sound like a guy that has any intentions.
Starting point is 00:18:33 Now, I mean, things can happen. They could lose by 30. He could get a call about a job. I mean, like, things could happen. But I am now operating under the assumption that I think he's going to return. It's kind of how it's been leaning. But then yesterday, I think everyone at UK, is operating like Mark Stoops as the coach next year.
Starting point is 00:18:53 And then that leads to a whole, and I think that's why Cutter Bowley start. I think Cutter Bowley's starting because it's part of the process of Mark Stoops returning. And so I just think that's where everyone's mindset needs to be going into the game on Saturday. 859-280-2287. Let me know what you think about that.
Starting point is 00:19:14 We're going to take a break. We'll talk UK Western and our trip out west. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsClice comes in. I'm Timbo.
Starting point is 00:19:35 Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. SportsSlice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to SportsSlice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Sliced Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok.
Starting point is 00:20:15 Agency, the ability to know that we're the experts in our own body. On the podcast cultivating her space, Dr. Dom and Terry Lomax create a space where black women can show up fully and be heard. I wholeheartedly think, you know, you hit 30. You shouldn't have to share one with anybody. Mm-hmm. From navigating friendships and healing to setting boundaries and prioritizing your mental health. These are real honest conversations. We don't always get to have out loud.
Starting point is 00:20:44 Totally unreasonable with different parts of life, right? Like, oh, have all three meals and make sure you're mindful during all of them? Absolutely not. During one meal, I'm standing. I'm standing and handing my children food. Because healing, empowerment, and resilience aren't just ideas. They're practices. And this Mental Health Awareness Month, there's no better time to pour back into yourself.
Starting point is 00:21:07 Listen to cultivating her space on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, guys? this is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Clivert Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game.
Starting point is 00:21:26 This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me, he goes, A, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, ref, my mama want you to wave at her. What?
Starting point is 00:21:46 Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clivert show. on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, I'm Jared Adano. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet. Help! Somebody!
Starting point is 00:22:01 Please! But there's so much more to me than that. I'm an actor. I'm a comedian. And recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, hope from a hypocrite, I'll be changing lives,
Starting point is 00:22:13 helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike! I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff rant and recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man. If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone,
Starting point is 00:22:33 let it ring twice. One ring is too scary. Oh, cream of chicken suit. Hey, cream. Cream a chicken suit. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hypocrite as part of the Mike Coutura podcast network
Starting point is 00:22:48 available on the IHeartRour, radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The story I've told myself about love or relationships can then shape my behavior, and that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection. This Mental Health Awareness Month, tune into the podcast deeply well with Debbie Brown and explore the journey of healing, self-discovery, and returning to yourself. We explore higher consciousness, emotional well-being, and the practice. practices that help you find clarity, peace, and self-mastery in a world that can feel overwhelming.
Starting point is 00:23:26 The world is becoming lonelier. We're not becoming more social and connected. We're becoming more individualized, but we actually meet people in connection. If you've been searching for a soft place to land while doing the work to become whole, this podcast is for you to hear more. Listen to deeply well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the Iheart Radio app, Apple, Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back. Techie Sports Radio. We'll be going to all these everywhere in the place.
Starting point is 00:24:00 So real quick, in terms of explaining where shows are, the one we know that it's set is it's going to be in Iowa City on Monday morning. Where it's going to be, we'll let you know. All right, we don't have a place. We might even just do it in a hotel lobby. It's not clear yet, but we will be in Iowa City. We also know we'll be in Seattle. to do a pregame show.
Starting point is 00:24:22 I've given you where I think we'll be along the way, but I'm starting to see reports of snow in some places, and so things might, anywhere in the middle could get detoured. I feel good that we'll get to Iowa City, and we have to get in Seattle, but everything in between will be a to-be-determined on the way. Now, Mario's going to be filming stuff the whole way. I mean, this is the prime Mario's.
Starting point is 00:24:47 He's going to film where we go. he's going to do stuff, and so you're going to get more info than you've ever gotten on these trips. I'm going to do what I used to do with Periscope back in the day. I'm going to do on my TikTok, Matt Jones, KSR,
Starting point is 00:25:03 which you ought to follow if you don't follow it yet, or on Instagram. I'm not doing it on Twitter. I cannot deal with any more post-a-video because the moment you post a video, you're just getting porn in the comments. I mean, just be ready for it. And I can't do that.
Starting point is 00:25:20 So it's going to be either on Instagram or the TikTok, and then Mario will have videos that will be on Twitter and everywhere else. I did wonder about any detouring when I saw a photo of Montana yesterday. It looked like Armageddon. Yeah, we're not going to go to Montana. I mean, any thoughts of going to Montana? I think the road was actually closed already. I think they basically said, Montana, you're not allowed to be here.
Starting point is 00:25:40 So we're going to have to go different ways. But I know I'm fairly certain we can get to Iowa City. But even that first stop in South Dakota is now looking like, I don't know. So we may have to go south instead of north, but just we'll end up in Iowa City Sunday night. That I feel good about. I've never been to Iowa City,
Starting point is 00:25:56 so this will be a new experience for me. Yes. All the place we've been in Iowa, I've never been to Iowa City. One person says, Matt, it's hard for me to get excited about another year of stoops. Help sell me on another year of stoops. Great question.
Starting point is 00:26:09 Ryan, sell them. You got a great... Better than you sell Stockton Morton. You got a great quarterback who's going to be a, you know, have three years left. You got a great running back. He knows he's great. I think he's going to be great.
Starting point is 00:26:23 Okay. You got a really good run. You got two really good young running backs in Wilcox and Patterson. You got Willie Watson. I can't say that today. It is tough. Willie Rodriguez. Willie Rodriguez.
Starting point is 00:26:33 I think he's proven that he can be really tough. You heard Stoops talk yesterday about they've already got some, they're in on a couple big linemen, both on both sides of the ball. What if any of those four I mentioned didn't come back? Yeah, you're counting them here. Yeah, you're counting them here. I think there's at least one that that's not. certain about. I'm going to go ahead and say they're back.
Starting point is 00:26:52 You're going to put all four them back. My job is to try to get this guy excited about this year. But I'm asking you, is that scoop or scuttlebutt? Okay. Because I do think there's one that they're going to have to convince. I'm not saying they can't, but there's at least one that is looking at other opportunities of those four. As far as some of their big name guys, you've got just assume that a lot of those guys will not be here next year. So who? Dion. Dion's clearly gone. Dane. Dane. So should we just assume Dane's gone?
Starting point is 00:27:22 Well, I mean, if they're already saying he's a possible fourth-round draft pick, I mean, wouldn't you? But I didn't ask you, wouldn't I? I mean, I'm saying you are scoop scuttlebutt. I'm just saying if I was a fourth-round pick, I would go. So, Shannon, that means he's gone, right? It sounds like it to me. He's trying not to say anything.
Starting point is 00:27:41 What about Barry up? It may be tough to keep him, too. All right. So now I feel like we're, This is one that I would trust you over anybody. You kind of feel like we should just assume no Dion, no Dane, no Beron. I think you just assume that at this point. Okay.
Starting point is 00:28:00 No Max Harrison. Max Harrison another one. He's added him to the Senior Day list, and he's only a red shirt junior, so that kind of tells you that's... Yeah, and then you have a bunch that are seniors. Is there anybody else that could come back that you feel like has talent? I mean, one of the four you mentioned, I think there's a chance he could, one of them, did not come back. Is anybody else you know like that? No, not off my head, no.
Starting point is 00:28:23 Drew? I mean, there's a lot of young pieces. I hope they're able to retain, but of the guys we've been seeing a lot playing a lot of minutes, they have a lot to replace. I mean, a lot of the offensive line, a lot of the pass rush, you assume you're going to lose some people to the portal. They're going to have to go in and get a lot of positions of guys that need to contribute right away.
Starting point is 00:28:40 Yeah, I mean, they're going to have to eat the portal up. All right, let's start. To get the linemen, like they got to do better. Like Gerald Mincy was expensive. Let's talk coaches. Sounds like Bush Hamden's back. I mean, he all but said that, right? He did yesterday.
Starting point is 00:28:53 So let's just assume that. Do you think Brad White is back? You know, there were schools going after him the last couple of years. Sooner or later, somebody's going to lure him away. I don't know if it's going to be this year or now, but people are still going to be coming after him. If you were him and you wanted to ever make a move, wouldn't this be the year to make it probably?
Starting point is 00:29:11 Probably, yeah. Eventually he wants to be a head coach. He may get a head coaching opportunity somewhere. Yeah, I feel like I'm going to work under the assumption he's not going to be here. I hope he is here. But like I just kind of feel like, you know, you're going to have to replace your entire defense. If there were ever a time to do it, Drew, this would be it. And he's already turned down a lot.
Starting point is 00:29:33 That's a dude that genuinely loves Lexington. I don't know where his kids are in age, but that was a big part of why he's been here as long as he has. At some point, he's going to have to take one of those phone calls and go find another. Position coaches. Do you just. change the offensive line again. I mean, are you going to go back to year three of trying to make the Wolfer thing work? He's pretty defensive of him.
Starting point is 00:29:55 He even mentioned him last night what a good recruiter he is. Yeah, but who cares? I'm just telling you what the tea leaves. I mean, if you can recruit and no one can block, what difference does it make? There are those who argue our offensive line problem started when he was here two years ago because he didn't develop any depth then. So would you keep him? I don't know how you can. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:16 I'll say this. Mark Stoops can't just run it back with the same group and think everybody's going to be happy. True. He's going to have to make some changes. We'll be right back. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Starting point is 00:30:34 Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio. Got some folks here live in Taylor'sville now. Got some folks here from New York. New York City, Queens. What do you know about Queens? Well, why don't you tell me about Queens? But not you tell me.
Starting point is 00:30:50 I'm more interested in your, you're kind of a worldly man. I'll say exactly what you just said, because I don't know anything else. The U.S. tennis opens there, and you have to have to go to Flushing to watch the tennis tournament. Well, yeah, you got the U.S. tennis open. You got LaGuardia. It's in Queens. Yeah, the Mets. The Mets are in Queens.
Starting point is 00:31:07 Yeah. A lot of the hipsters are moving to Queens now. Like it's become, you know, kind of one of the places to be, right? You have to show the king of Queens. Well, in coming to America, Eddie Murphy found his wife in Queens. Okay. That's good to know. I think that's a good part of it.
Starting point is 00:31:24 So, yeah, there's a lot of stuff in Queens, a lot of good restaurants. Queens is a big area. I mean, people won't talk about it as much, but it's a huge area. Yeah, it's not forget Vinnie Chase from Entourage was from Queens. Oh, that's right. He was a king. Yeah. We've done many of Queens trips.
Starting point is 00:31:39 I bounce around Queens. He was, what was the movie? He was going to be an I am something, Queens Boulevard. I am Queens Boulevard. I am Queens Boulevard. Well, there's a good memory from the, for Montarosh. 859-280-2287. One person says, Matt, if we bring Stoops back,
Starting point is 00:31:56 I guess that means Kroger Field will be a ghost town next year. No, it won't. Disagree with that. No, it won't. I don't believe that. There are some people who've called and said, well, I may not renew my season tickets, and that might be some people,
Starting point is 00:32:08 but when the game start, people are coming. And then you look at that home schedule next year. You're not going to come when Texas comes here for the first time ever. Of course you are. going to come here for the Tennessee game. You're not going to come here for the Florida game. You're not going to come here for the Old Miss game. I just, you're going to be at the first game because people always go to the first game.
Starting point is 00:32:27 So like, yeah, there might be one or two games. The attendance is affected, but I don't, Ryan, that's hard for me to believe the people aren't going to be here. You know, this year was a disappointment, yes. But we just went, we had a stretch, we went to eight straight bowl games at Kentucky. You don't understand. These people don't realize we went years, eight years or more without. ever going to a bowl game and Stoops got us to eight bowl games in a row.
Starting point is 00:32:50 So yeah, this season was a little disappointment, but I have confidence he can get us back to where we're going to a bowl game again. So, yeah, those people are crazy. Wow, okay. What about you? He has a lot of work to do this offseason, but I agree. People will be butts in the seats. Season ticket numbers probably will go down.
Starting point is 00:33:05 They had a record. They did. They had a big year this year. They won't match that. But you won't want to watch Cutter Bowley versus Arch Manning in Lexington? Oh, yeah. Yeah, Archmanning's coming in town. You don't want to see Arts with Peyton and Eli?
Starting point is 00:33:17 Coler Polly versus Nico? Yeah, come on. DJ Lagway? You're going to go. You're going to go. Everybody, I mean, I agree. There may be some people that don't renew season tickets. That takes an effort.
Starting point is 00:33:27 I mean, the Reds guy, it calls me four times in the last three days. Like, I mean, it takes an effort to pull the trigger. When I see that bill and I go, oh, do I want to do that again? But at the end of the day, you're coming because it's Kentucky. It's like. It's a thing. Even when things were going south, our fans still showed up out there at Krogerfield. Even at the Murray State game last weekend, they were still a good crowd.
Starting point is 00:33:54 Who's up next? Larry. Larry, go ahead, Larry. Hey, good morning, guys. Longtime listener. Who are? I'm calling. I want to say something, and I want to ask you a question.
Starting point is 00:34:04 And it's about football. You know, I'm really good, I get tired of hearing you guys talking about that Stoops is a great coach at Kentucky. Or he's not even a good coach at Kentucky. Okay, well, let's compare that on. He's got a losing record at Kentucky. Let's comparing historically to the other Kentucky coaches. Well, that's easy for you to say because you're playing 12 games now. Hang on a second, sir.
Starting point is 00:34:27 Which ones of the coaches at Kentucky historically do you think have been better than Stoops? Well, it doesn't make no difference. If none of them were better than Stoops, Stoops is not that good of a coach. Okay, but look at its record, Matt. That's not the sentence you said. The sentence you said is that you were tired of. hearing us saying he was a great coach at Kentucky. If I'm saying to you outside of Bear Bryant, outside of Bear Bryant,
Starting point is 00:34:55 who finished coaching here in 1953 before we even had black players in the SEC, tell me a coach who's done better at Kentucky than him without cheating. Well, I think Frank Cursey was a good coach and Jerry Clayburn was a good coach. Who cheated? Jerry Clayburn's record significantly. And like I said, I'm not, you're comparing mediocre coaches and you're calling him a great coach. But you can't say he's a great coach. You can, if you just want to say, yeah, Kentucky, but it's, it's not, he's got a losing record of Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:35:30 He's got a losing record in Bowdo games. My answer has always been the same thing. He is a great coach for Kentucky. Now, is he a great coach historically? No. But I would say to you, it is very hard for Kentucky historically. to get a great coach because we haven't had one. Well, we've got to keep trying.
Starting point is 00:35:52 I mean, he's never played in a conference championship game since he's been there. And how many conference championship games has Kentucky played in in their history? But is that where we're all times judged back because we've never done it? We can never do it in the future. I didn't say we could never do it, but I think if you spend your life determining the success of our coaches by asking them to do things that have never been done here, and if they don't, do it. They're a failure. We will just be rotating failures of coaches from now on. Well, maybe that's true. Maybe we're like everybody in SEC, when we don't win, we replace a
Starting point is 00:36:28 coach and we keep doing it until we find something successful. The ninth highest paid coach in the country, you can't tell me that the 200 coaches behind him aren't as good or to win the same amount of games for less money. I appreciate the call. Is Mark Stoop's the ninth best coach in America. Is Mark Stoops a ninth best coach in America? No. But that's not the question. The question was, would you,
Starting point is 00:36:55 again, at the moment that contract was given, would you rather him have walked away or not? It's a very simple question. I mean, theoretically, the Mark Stoops debate is a good theoretical debate. Is he of the level we want at
Starting point is 00:37:11 Kentucky? And I have mixed emotions about that. But I like to live in the real world. Okay, I don't like to live in the fantasy world of is he the ninth best? The question is, when that contract was offered to him, would you have not given it to him and let him walk? Yes. You would have? I would not have let him walk.
Starting point is 00:37:33 I ought to get him the contract. So, no, you would not have let him walk. Correct. You said yes. The first question I heard of would, would you get him that contract? Yes. No, it's not what I said. I said, wouldn't you, would you have not given him that contract and let him walk?
Starting point is 00:37:50 No. Thank you. No, I'm confused. You couldn't have. You couldn't have let him coming off only the second 10th win season in 40 years let him walk off the door. No. You couldn't have. And if you say you could have, that's fine.
Starting point is 00:38:09 But you might not be the AD here anymore if you did that. So, Drew, I just, do I think Mark Sto, let me put it like this. This is a harsh statement whether you agree with it or not. Do I think Mark Stoops is the best person in America to lead us into this new NIL generation? No, I don't, actually, which makes me worried. But do I think Kentucky can get rid of him under these circumstances? No. So I need it to work out as it is.
Starting point is 00:38:40 Yeah, I'm kind of in the same boat with you. I think about the stoop's that was doing so well for a few years and how different things have been. I think we're all concerned when we were here talking about fundraising and things, but I also think, I mean, there has been a decline for two, three years, but this has been the one bad year. We can say this was not been a good year, and I feel like he's at least owed one shot to pull himself out of it.
Starting point is 00:39:03 I would slightly disagree with this. I don't think he's owed anything except that contract. Well, that too, but I mean, but I would say I need, I need him, to grow up and stop whining and complaining and be the Mark Stoopsie was the last eight years. I need to stop whining about NIL, stop whining that he has to spend too much money to fundraising. I have no sympathy for him when it comes to having to fundraise. Dude, you are the ninth highest paid coach in the country. So I have mixed emotions.
Starting point is 00:39:36 I think fans that want him gone are living in a fantasy world. They're living in a fantasy world where you can just see. snap your fingers and draw $44 million and pay a guy. But I also think that Mark Stoops needs to look in the mirror and do what he ask his players to do, which is grow up and stop complaining and work hard. That's what I need. And to his credit, his wording has changed in the last two or three weeks. But the whiny dude from the first eight months of eight weeks of the year, I was over that.
Starting point is 00:40:09 because that's not what he was for a long time. When we were winning, it's let's go knock down a door. What do I need to do to punch up and do this team? What do I need to do this? We haven't heard that stoop since these things have done. That's not the point I was trying to make is if the stoop's that's going to get another run, we need more of that fire that we had a little bit before all these changes, whether he likes it or not.
Starting point is 00:40:28 I mean, it is a fantasy world to act like we can get rid of it. We can't. He'll have to do it himself or there'll have to be a buyout. And I don't even know that UK has the money to give him a buyout. UK is broker right now than they'll be fine in a year or two. But there's this year. They're going to have to pay. Every school in America is in a weird situation.
Starting point is 00:40:51 They're going to have to pay this settlement out that's going to cost, I don't even know how much a school. $40 million a school. That money has to exist. They've got to now plan to give players $20 million a year over the next few years. years. This is a moment where there just ain't nobody's flush with cash today. Give it a few years. It'll be different. The new SEC TV contract just started. Give them a minute. But this is not the year to come asking for a bile, right? No, not at all. And you mentioned like he said, kind of whining about raising money. That's something I think he's been really, really good at.
Starting point is 00:41:30 He's been able to get these guys to invest in football that have never invested in football ever before until you got here. One quote I really like about, one quote I really like that Mark Stoops has made over the years, or excuse me, that John Calgary made. There's no crying on the yacht. Yeah. He used to say that all the time,
Starting point is 00:41:48 and then he became, you know, a Meg Ryan movie on the yacht. No crying on the yacht. You're the ninth highest paid coach in America. Nobody feels sorry for you that you have to go raise money. And if you don't want to do that, Drew, it's not a mandatory job, is it? No. And that's, I mean, that's what I was saying. The reasons we like Stoops is there wasn't any crying.
Starting point is 00:42:12 It was, where's my lunch pal, where's my boys, we're going to figure this out, and do things Kentucky football has never done. But we haven't really heard that attitude in a few years. It's been a slowly decline to this year of complaining and there's just too much going on. Cornbread-Hamp, if you need to rest and relax during the holiday, everybody needs that. Absolutely. Sometimes you'll be, you know, you got your family, and there's, like uncle, the uncle won't stop talking about politics, and then the aunt wants to tell you

So you go to cornbread hemp.com, promo code is KSR. He's shaking his head like, yep, my dad does that. Cornbread hemp, promo code KSR, full spectrum flower only hemp. Remember, if you come to the bar today right now or tonight, 100% profit boost from Draft Kings on all games. All games. any college basketball game tonight, 100% profit boost, only at the bar. It's the only place in America you can get 100% profit boost. They're very clear to me when they talk to me. They're like, you realize that's the only place in America. We do that. And I say, yes, thank you very much. I've tweeted a few winners and random people are like, wait, how are you able to do that
Starting point is 00:48:20 the way you are? All you got to do is have a meal here at KS. Bar. They're doing it this time. Anytime Kentucky basketball plays all year. Nice. That day you get to do it. That's very cool. The little placards are already on the tables.
Starting point is 00:48:33 do it right now. Come in for lunch and do it. That's exactly right. Yeah, you can do it. You can do it now. One person writes, Matt, I don't understand why you're so adamant about this. If Kentucky wants to make a change, they could, they don't want to. I mean, spoken like someone who's never had to balance a budget. I mean, you know, no, they can't. They can't do everything. And again, I've said this many times, the people that would give money like Mark Stoops. So where's this money coming from? That's what I'm saying. He's good at raising money.
Starting point is 00:49:06 He's got some of these boosters that have only been basketball boosters for years and years and years and years to donate to football. Yeah. It's kind of, you know, it's kind of ridiculous. I have, Shannon, something I wanted to tell you. I saw The Rock say, and I've decided the Rock is 100% correct about this. Okay. You know, there's a movie, I guess, came out. There's coming out.
Starting point is 00:49:29 Mowin' Two? Is that right? Yeah. Disney movie. Yeah. It's, uh, is it Moana? Moana, I think is. Moana.
Starting point is 00:49:39 Moana. So that comes out Wednesday, right? And apparently, like, there's a lot of singing in the movie, right? Yeah. And there are already debates because, you know, they did that Taylor Swift movie and like everybody just turned all the movies into a concert. And Taylor Swift said it said in the movie it said, singing is encouraged. So presumably if you went, You knew people were going to sing.
Starting point is 00:50:03 And there are videos of where the place just went crazy with little girls singing. Well, the Rock, there's worry that in Moana, too, the people, like everyone's going to sing. And The Rock said that he thinks in every movie with songs, the audience should be encouraged to sing the songs along with the movie. And, Shannon, I think the Rock should be arrested. Well, I don't think there's any chance you're going to go see Mulawks. I'm not going to worry about it. I'm not going to go see Moana too. And I don't really care about children's movies.
Starting point is 00:50:36 But his premise was all musicals, they should encourage the crowd to sing along. And Shannon, I think that's the worst idea I've ever heard. Yeah. If I'm going to the movie. Okay. If Taylor Swift says, come sing my movies. Then Shannon, I know if I go, I'm listening to people sing. If we go to a concert, it's a little bit different.
Starting point is 00:50:55 If you go to a concert and you want to sing, I'm okay with, I'm okay with that if you want to. But if you're in a movie theater, you shouldn't be singing. We don't need to hear you sing off key. Yeah, if you were to go see, like, I'm not a musical guy, but if you were to go see Chicago, right, there was a movie Chicago a few years ago. You can't go to the movie Chicago and get up and see. When I went to see straight out of Compton,
Starting point is 00:51:17 I did not want the guy sitting next to me in his accountant hat rapping straight out of Compton. I saw 8 Mile at the Madisonville movie theater in the mall. Not a lot of people rapping. Did you want people to rap with him and him? We have Wicked. coming out this week big big movie oh yeah don't you can't sing wicked either what you're gonna go see me to help arrest people he's just gonna have somebody there like if you go see wicked i'm not
Starting point is 00:51:43 gonna go see wicked either but if you're gonna go see wicked you let the wicked people sing you don't need to be the one singing you're right i'm paying a 10 dollars a ticket to hear ariana grande grand i don't want to hear the guy beside me sing i could hear the guys beside me sing on the subpoor right right right right right would be the guy who would be singing you What are you even talking? You know you would be singing. Yeah, of the forum is you would be most likely to sing at these things. If it was one of my favorite jams.
Starting point is 00:52:07 Okay, but that's the point. For all these people, it's their favorite jam. But we did not pay you to come sing. Agreed. I feel the same way about concerts as we've talked about for slow songs. Yeah. If you want to sing, oh, we're halfway there here. But when it's like Lady May, Tyler Childers, shut up.
Starting point is 00:52:26 Let him sing. That really bothered you when we were there. Still angry about it. Yeah. I can tell. Yeah. You're a little hot. She's been holding on to that way for a while.
Starting point is 00:52:34 I like The Rock, but I think the Rock needs to at least, you know, be arrested for a week for that take. Because there are going to be people who go seeing it, Wicked and Moana 2 because of the Rock. And I'm against it. Who's up next? Mike. Mike, go ahead, Mike. All right, good morning, Matt. Talking about Queens, George Costanza's mom and dad lived in Queens.
Starting point is 00:52:56 That's right. George Costanza's mom and dad live in Queens. There you go. there's two more people that's right the Kastans is living queens he's laughing at us yeah um so you're talking about uh people arguing about stoop's uh not being off for that contract or letting him go a couple years ago you absolutely could not have let him go because who are you going to who were you going to get you know like i look at this kentucky job and i think of the guy the hot guy right now what's it uh summer all down at two lane like
Starting point is 00:53:29 if you look at the conference, you could make an argument that Kentucky, I mean, Vanderbilt's always going to be at the bottom, and then maybe Mississippi State because you have to live in Starkville, but then it's Kentucky. You know, and that's, you know, how attractive is the job. Yeah, I mean, that's another thing. One of the things I think we have a delusional view, I agree, appreciate the call, about our attraction. We are attractive, but we. We are in a conference with bombshells, right? I mean, I think you could make an argument.
Starting point is 00:54:06 Seven, eight, nine of the top 14 or 15 jobs in America are in our conference and we aren't one of them. And like, we have to understand that. With that said, Mark Stoops has also got to get his attitude in gear if he's going to be here the next three or four years. And that's why I think this next week is so important. We'll take a break. Come right back. We'll do it on top basketballs. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
