Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Starting point is 00:03:58 Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Number two, 859-280-2287 here at the KS Bar and Grill. Got a lot of folks in from all over. This is the holidays. I always like it. You get people coming in from all over the place. School's starting to let out. I gave my Georgetown final exam yesterday.
Starting point is 00:04:17 Mario enforced the no-cheating rule, and he brought me all of them here, and I'm going to be grading papers over the next week or so. Make sure all my students passed. So he didn't. Nobody was cheating. He didn't catch any cheaters. He said no cheaters, right? No cheaters, that's good.
Starting point is 00:04:35 I got to congratulate. You know, I have, in my class, I've got handful of football players, handful basketball players, and the Georgetown College basketball team is now number one in America in the NAA. And one of the best players is in my class. Oh, he is? Yeah, I told him, nice job. Way to represent the G.C. Do you think part of your instruction has helped me from the Montrake?
Starting point is 00:04:56 There's no doubt. I mean, the coach hasn't thanked me yet, but I think. I think he probably thinks that I'm at least a small part of it. I was only a few steps into Rupp Arena last night when a blue coat ran up to me and said, I saw Professor Mario around here, so he's already known as Professor Mario. Professor Mario. He said, on the way in, I said, you're now a professor. He goes, I'm a TA, which I felt like that was good.
Starting point is 00:05:17 He didn't want to step too far to start. But now my semester is over, and now don't have to worry about teaching anymore until next year. So wouldn't you have to have this final graded in grade? It's flexible. They usually give me a date. I don't always get it in by then, but you know what, if they find a way to do it. I told you one time I had a dad yell at me.
Starting point is 00:05:39 Because you didn't have it submitted? It was mad that I didn't have the grade in yet. He was like, we pay this school, blah, blah, blah, so I graded that kid's paper really quick so that he would... Find it today, man. Just leave me alone. Like, Kentucky plays Louisville today. Just give me a break.
Starting point is 00:05:53 I'll grade your kid's paper. He did fine. Just chill out. Do you want Drew and Shannon and I to grade him? No. No. No. All right, I'll tell you what.
Starting point is 00:06:02 You want me to ask you one of the questions? Okay. All right. Here we go. Samson University is about to set up a women's soccer team for the first time. They already have a men's soccer team at the school, and they want to make sure they comply with all the Title IX requirements for equal treatment based on gender.
Starting point is 00:06:20 When determining the budgets and facilities for the women's soccer team, what do they need to do to ensure they are compliant with all the legal rules? Well, I would say go to title nine.com. Title IX.com. And you said I have my notes and I'd probably refer to everything I took. I took good notes in a class. Did you take good notes? Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:40 Is that title Roman numeral nine? Yeah. Your Roman numeral? Roman numeral? I'll give you an easier. There are six types of intentional torts that can come into play in the context of sports. Name four of them and give an example of how they would come into play in sports. Torz?
Starting point is 00:06:58 See again. You're set up to pass. Torts. But again, I go to Torch.com, and I took really good notes that day. I think my students will do better than you did on this one. Okay, so the UK football schedule came out. And if you're Mark Stoops, you already knew the teams you were going to play, but you probably couldn't have gotten a worse order of playing them.
Starting point is 00:07:25 I'm going to read you in order the schedule if you haven't heard at home. We start the season with Toledo at home. Then we have Old Miss at home week two, Eastern Michigan week three at home. Then we are open date after week three. Then away South Carolina, away Georgia, open date, home Texas, home Tennessee, at Auburn, home, Florida, home Louisiana Monroe, at Vandy. at Louisville. Here are the two things that stick out to me about it.
Starting point is 00:08:00 Number one, I mean, what a brutal SEC start. The five teams that are the hardest you play in the first five games. I mean, so like you have no chance to get a couple of, you know, we used to kind of play South Carolina sometimes at the beginning when they weren't good and early in the year you might get Florida or Vandy and you could steal it. Not this year. Two open dates in the first six weeks of the year. I don't like that.
Starting point is 00:08:25 I don't know why our open dates are so close. Why couldn't we get them spread out? That's kind of weird. We go a month without a home game. So our home games are bunched up at the beginning of the year and then in October and early November. But we go middle of September to middle of October with no home games. And just an old miss home week too.
Starting point is 00:08:46 I mean, that's a major game for them. You can't go get blown out in that one. and then you go to South Carolina, go to Georgia, Texas and Tennessee, home back to back. Couple positives if you want to find them. We finally get a November home game against Florida. We've always wanted to make them come up here when it's cold. We finally get to do that for the first time in 20 years, probably. But what I look at, Drew, is I look at this schedule and see home, old miss, away South Carolina, away Georgia, home Texas, home Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:09:22 and you sit there and go, if Mark starts 0 and 5 in SEC play, I don't know how he keeps this thing going and keeps this fan base in. He's going to have to pull a couple upsets early in the year. But you do have a chance if you want it, if you want to be optimistic, to go on a run to end the year. With away Auburn, home Florida, home Louisiana Monroe, away Vandy, away Louisville, you could make an argument that you could win all five of those games,
Starting point is 00:09:51 but hopefully you're not two and five going into those games. Yeah, that stretch is the easiest stretch on the schedule, but you just got to wonder the state of everything around you when you get to that point. Florida being so late in the year was one of my immediate takeaways. It's the latest it's been since 1990, but you could be two and six, and people could have already checked out when you finally get them on a cold day.
Starting point is 00:10:11 For sure. Another one that jumps out, Texas's first ever trip here is during a Keenland weekend. There might be more Texas people than Kentucky people at that game. They travel well. That's a good point. It's the Arch Manning era. They'll be fired up. They're hungry from just missing out on the SEC this year.
Starting point is 00:10:24 Oh, there's going to be. They will take over this town on October 18th. I didn't think about that. That is going to be Keenland weekend. There will be a good trillion people here that weekend. That's a good point. South Carolina, kind of a must-win game, if you want to do anything special, even though they're going to be very good.
Starting point is 00:10:40 It's after a by week. I don't even know why we bother playing football after by weeks at this point with Kentucky. It seems to always be a loss. Awful. It's just, I usually am the optimistic when we get making. fun of as the season goes on. This year, my prediction is going to stink when it comes time to that point. Well, maybe, I mean, we were very optimistic this year. Maybe we'll be pessimistic and it'll work out. But I think if you're Mark, and I mean, you already knew the teams you were
Starting point is 00:11:02 going to play, but I don't think they could have bunched them up much worse for you here, right? Do you? I think, just in my opinion, this is the hardest UK football schedule I've ever seen, just the way they're bunched up. Like Drew said, they don't play well after a buy. Don't play well. South Carolina's beat you the last two years. Vandy's beat you two of the last three years at home. I just don't think there's a lot of wins out there. Do you think I look at those first games. You know, take the two stinky teams out.
Starting point is 00:11:30 I look at Ole Miss at home at South Carolina. And I look at that and think, Ryan, you've got to win one of those two games. You have to. You got to win one of the two. You know, might be too much to ask you to win both, but you got to find a way to win one of those two games, right? You absolutely have to win one of those two games because what's coming up, that gauntlet they're going through in October is just brutal.
Starting point is 00:11:53 You get Georgia, Texas, Tennessee back to back. That's as brutal as any schedule in America. You get basically three playoff teams. Yeah. The SEC has three playoff teams, and you're playing them back to back to back. I don't want to be Sky's Falling guy, but week one, Toledo, they went to Mississippi State and won by 24 last year. Toledo is really good. I mean, you should beat Toledo.
Starting point is 00:12:17 Did they really? It's not a pushover in week one of your non-conference opponents. You used to have it in that spot. I mean, it's not crazy to say this team, there's records going to be worse next year than it was this year. Well, he can't survive that, though. Right? I mean, look, I'm for it.
Starting point is 00:12:37 I'm going to write a post on KSR Plus. Maybe today, it might be tomorrow. But I'm going to kind of write about where I hear things being, because I have had a couple long conversations with people around the program. And I am optimistic. Okay, so there were like three things I was worried about. Point one. Here's what I'm up.
Starting point is 00:13:00 I'm going to go from optimistic to I hope to pessimistic. Okay. Here's the optimistic point. I do think Mark is all in. There can be some complaints, and I have complaints about what happened this year. and maybe the all-inness or not this year, but I think he got awoken, and I think he's all in.
Starting point is 00:13:26 Now, whether that's going to work is a different point, but some of my worries of, what is he real, does he really want this? I don't feel that way as much today as maybe I did a couple weeks ago. I'm hoping they keep a lot of what they have together. I do think it's kind of hanging by thread. and so so far
Starting point is 00:13:47 Dainkey is the only part of the thread that's come off I'm hoping the rest of it stays I think they have the money in the portal to go do something but so do a lot of people so are you going to be able to go get the guys that you need the thing I'm more pessimistic about though is can you get talent can you put an offensive line together from the portal
Starting point is 00:14:12 it's basically what we're going to be basket. Can you go get five new offensive linemen and it work? I don't know. We haven't seen many teams to be able to do that, Drew. We'll see if we're one that can't. Yeah, he's got a lot of needs and we thought they did well in the portal a year ago, so whatever they
Starting point is 00:14:28 go out and get, I just don't know how you get people enthusiastic when they're staring at that schedule and a bunch of new pieces that many people aren't going to be expected. Well, how do you even know? I mean, like, so I was looking at Adam Luckett. He had listed the guys that are going to visit. I mean, the reality
Starting point is 00:14:44 I don't know if any of these guys are any, I mean, how do I know if they're good? Like, you show me we're going to get an offensive lineman from, like, Western Michigan. Is he good? I don't know. Maybe. Maybe not. How in the world would I know that? You know, I saw that we're looking at quarterbacks.
Starting point is 00:15:02 One of the guys that apparently we're looking at is the quarterback at Yale. I don't know. I mean, maybe. Maybe not. I didn't watch Yale play. I have no idea. I think we are going to get a commitment from a guy who started two straight years at Arkansas, an offensive guard.
Starting point is 00:15:22 I think he's going to be a commitment. Okay, that's good. He started two straight years at offensive guard. Looks like Arkansas fans really don't want to lose him. That's good. But I don't know. They weren't that good. So, like, it's hard.
Starting point is 00:15:38 I don't know what they can even do to make me feel more confident because these guys they're bringing in. Ryan, I'm not going to know who they're going to know who they're. they are, and I'm not going to know if they're going to be successful. They had had so much success in the transfer portal up until last year. Last year, they's had some misses. They have to hit a home run this year. I mean, they have to. But we won't know.
Starting point is 00:15:57 I know. I know. I mean, we're not going to, like, we're not going to know if these guys are good. You told me last year, Brock Van deGryff, not you, but just in general, top high school recruit came from Georgia. I thought, well, that'll work. Absolutely. And it didn't work.
Starting point is 00:16:13 Really? So, like, how am I, you know, maybe. Maybe the Yale guy's better, but there's no way to know. And what's scary is there's no way for Mark Stoops to know. That's true. They're really just going to have to hope, wish and pray that something pans out. They're going to, they're watching film. They're going to get what they think is the best option.
Starting point is 00:16:31 But until next September, no one's going to have any idea what it looks like. And for you to be a coach and have so much on the line in this one year, that's not the scenario you want where you're just hoping it works out. But I think that's where they're going to have to be putting all these pieces together from other schools. There's going to be a lot of hope. Right. We don't hope we wish. Two tackles, and so you just got to hope the two tackles they go out and get.
Starting point is 00:16:51 You got to hope. And then you got to say, man, we got to win one of those early games. Because if this fan, let's be real. If this fan base, if we're two and five and then basketball season starts, this fan base will, I mean, we know what they'll do. They'll go, well, this ain't working. If you're two and five, you're probably going two and seven with the game. that lined up after that by week.
Starting point is 00:17:17 I couldn't believe it when I saw that schedule unveiled yesterday. I'm like, oh, my goodness. Yeah. I mean, there is no, once you hit October, man, it's three playoff teams back to back to back. Ouch. Ouch, is right. But I'll tell you what. At least you have the Emirates NBA Cup.
Starting point is 00:17:36 Okay, tell me about it. It's going to the semifinals. Do you know who's in it? The Atlanta Hawks. Okay, who else? That's one. The Golden State Warriors They lost last night
Starting point is 00:17:47 The Los Angeles Lakers That didn't even make the playoffs Minnesota Timberwoods Boston Celtics All right so you're terrible at this But for everybody else it's exciting You have the Hawks Yeah the Hawks
Starting point is 00:18:00 And the Rockets Oh that I just saw that And then you have Milwaukee And Oklahoma City That's who's in it She's like on fire right now Yes you can bet five get 150 in bonus bets if your bet wins.
Starting point is 00:18:14 Score big with the Draft King Sportsbook. Code is KSR for new customers. 150 in bonus bets if your bet wins. Try it out. I won a good parlay last night on the Rockets game. You can too. And if you have a gambling problem, call 1-800 game where bonus bet expire 168 hours after issue.
Starting point is 00:18:31 It's C-DKNG.c-C-O-slash-B-ball. You know who's like the hottest trade piece in the NBA right now? Everybody's talking about. Your boy Nick Richards. Some contenders are going to go trade. for Nick Richards. He's like the hottest piece right now. One day everyone will learn. You just got to be a little more patient with him. It takes him a little while to find his rhythm, but he's rolling.
Starting point is 00:18:51 He's averaging like 12 and 9 this year. Yeah, we were ready for him to get on a better team. We were listening to that sports talk show in Denver driving through Denver. And the whole segment was about Nick Richards. We'll take a break. Be right back. It's KSR. Last night, a blown call changed the game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in.
Starting point is 00:19:13 I'm Timbo. Every episode we're cutting through the noise. Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves. Their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context and ask the questions everybody wants answered.
Starting point is 00:19:39 Sports slice brings you closer to the action. with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to SportsSlice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slic Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Hey, I'm Jared Adano. You might know me as that loud guy
Starting point is 00:19:56 who yells out, help on the internet. Help! Somebody! Please! But there's so much more to me than me. I'm an actor. I'm a comedian. And recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike, I'm a comedian! I'm not qualified to give good advice!
Starting point is 00:20:21 Join me and my comedian friends as we riff rant and recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man. If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary. Oh, cream of chicken soup, hey, cream. Cream a chicken suit. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hypocrite as part of the Mike Cultura podcast network available on the IHartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The story I've told myself about love or relationships can then shape my behavior, and that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection.
Starting point is 00:21:05 This Mental Health Awareness Month, tune into the podcast deeply well. with Debbie Brown and explore the journey of healing, self-discovery, and returning to yourself. We explore higher consciousness, emotional well-being, and the practices that help you find clarity, peace, and self-mastery in a world that can feel overwhelming. The world is becoming lonelier. We're not becoming more social and connected. We're becoming more individualized, but we actually meet people in connection. If you've been searching for a soft place to land while doing the work to become whole. This podcast is for you.
Starting point is 00:21:42 To hear more, listen to deeply well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through life one hot flash and hormonal crying jag at a time. You ladies know what I mean.
Starting point is 00:22:02 I'll bet you a paramedipausal chin here you do. So let's talk about it. Join me on my new podcast. How hard can it be with Deanna Maria Riva? where I call on my Gen X squads from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate midlife's most fantastic BS. All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own. I was like, what the hell is that?
Starting point is 00:22:23 I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that nest was going to be. Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive. Wait, what sex? Dating at 45. How can it be getting naked at 50 with a new guy? That one's kind of hard now. Well, that's lighting. They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try.
Starting point is 00:22:41 So let's get blunt with laughs, tears or tears of laughter, and dive into it, unfiltered and unbothered and ask, How Hard Can It Be? I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud in public. Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Diana Maria Riva as part of My Cultura Podcast Network available on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, fam?
Starting point is 00:23:03 It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about Define the Arts. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
Starting point is 00:23:24 We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
Starting point is 00:23:43 we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball. Like, after you go through a training camp with that, IZAD, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court,
Starting point is 00:23:59 and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back. It is Kentucky. Sports Radio here live at KS Bar and Grill. Nice crowd here for lunch. You can come on out and join us volleyball game.
Starting point is 00:24:18 We'll start playing at 1 o'clock. Kentucky Louisville, I have a lot of you asking about coming Saturday. Games at 5.15. What times our pregame show starts? 2.30 to 3.30. 2.30 to 3.30. So I would say, you know, anytime, like when we open at 11 to about 1 or 1.30, there'll be plenty of space.
Starting point is 00:24:37 We'll start getting crowded, probably 2-ish. That's just my guess. and then, of course, we play Louisville. That's going to be another one if we win. I'll probably do the postgame show here. If we lose, I'm going to go in hiding. But hopefully we get the victory. And what do you think the spread will be for that game, by the way?
Starting point is 00:24:54 I'm going to assume Butler's back in that they're setting with that. I will say 11 and a half. That's interesting. Yeah, I was going to say like 9 and a half. So what do you think it'll be? I was going to say 8. You guys are maybe a little more. optimistic than I am.
Starting point is 00:25:11 We'll see. I don't really know. Louis is hard to figure out. They have a couple of big wins, but then they've got annihilated against some teams as well. The two SEC teams they've played at home, they've just gotten destroyed. So I... Tennessee and Ole Miss.
Starting point is 00:25:25 Ole Miss. Both beat them pretty easily. Pat Kelsey's quote last time. Yeah, so let's look at Pat Kelsey's quote. I feel like this quote Shannon was made by Ryan Lemon. Let's hear it. They asked Pat Kelsey. They're like, you know, you just had to play, you just had to play Ole
Starting point is 00:25:39 You had to play Duke. You had to play Tennessee. And now you've got to play Kentucky this week. Do you consider that too stressful and difficult? And here was this quote. No. I mean, I get a bunch of free sneakers. I wear sweatsuits to work.
Starting point is 00:25:54 My kids are healthy and my wife is hot. I'm a great answer. I love that answer, actually. I love that answer. I kind of like that answer, too. He's like basically like it's not like I'm working in a salt mine. You know, I'm actually, I'm a basketball coach. So yeah, it's okay.
Starting point is 00:26:11 I kind of like that line. I do kind of like that line. You know, this is the first matchup, obviously, between Pope and Kelsey. I want to not like him. You know, I want to. I do, but I kind of like him. I'm the same way. I think he's because he's, I think it's because he's little.
Starting point is 00:26:25 Yeah. And he's got those black glasses. You just want to go up and give him like a little tickle. Yeah, you just want to, like, pitch his cheeks and give him a little nuggie and say, and like, just kind of lift him up. I don't know if any of you all read, but he kind of reminds me of what Owen means. looks like in the book of prayer for Owen Meaney. You could put him on your shoulder and walk him around.
Starting point is 00:26:44 I kind of, I mean, I'm sure at some point I'll hate him. I think I found it endearing when he walked around campus going, please come to the game, please. I just kind of thought that was, I've been part of trying to build a business. He's trying to build a team. I think it's kind of nice. As a big Louisville hater, I admit, when he had that comment last night, the little grinching me, my heart grew three sizes that day for Pat Kelsey. I actually feel bad for him.
Starting point is 00:27:08 what he's doing to get a crowd to those games, and they haven't been showing up for. They just don't show up for it. Now, I hope he lose by 50 on Saturday, and I'll continue to make jokes, but I did like his comment last night. I got a little sympathy for him not getting the support he probably deserves it. And I also, I like that he says,
Starting point is 00:27:23 I get to wear, I get free shoes, I get to wear sweatsuits to work. Salute, man. That's exactly why I got out of the law business. I got to do those exact two things. He said, what do he say, I have great kids, and my wife is high. I don't have a wife,
Starting point is 00:27:37 but otherwise, I'm, with him. So, I mean, I don't have kids either, just for the record. I wasn't saying I just don't So just the sneakers in the sweatpants. Yeah, so half of it. The other two aren't me, but anyway, who's next? Let's go to Joe. Joe, go ahead, Joe. Hey, guys, enjoy the show out here on the golf courts. Listen to you guys. On the golf course. Two comments. Yeah, it's 40 and sunny. Well, good luck. boy.
Starting point is 00:28:08 Anyway, hey, a couple of comments. We need Lamont Butler back for sure Saturday. But the other thing I wanted to talk about was Monday, you had a guest. He did a great job. But he played some music that is fantastic. It's called Harold Milven in the Blue Note. Yeah. I was it you came late 70s and early 80s.
Starting point is 00:28:32 And our fraternity tried to get him to them to come playing our formal because we love music, the music, Teddy Pentegras. But we weren't able to do that, but we did connect with the band in Nashville that kind of reminded us with Carol Helves, which is Jimmy Churchberry. But regardless of all this,
Starting point is 00:28:52 I think Mark Pope's got a great thing going here, so I think we should nickname the team Mark Pope in the blue notes. Oh, okay. I was wondering where you were going to make that connection. I appreciate it. I appreciate it. The call. I had no idea where that was going. I don't like to give nick.
Starting point is 00:29:11 Nicknames come naturally. You can't force them. The only only thing I know about Harold Melvin in the Blue Notes was the old Snoop Dogg song, Doggy Dog World. He says you're like Harold Melvin in the Blue Notes. You'll never go platinum. And that's all I know about them is that line from Doggy Dog World in like 1994. I know we want the nicknames to be organic, but a blue coat approached me with one last
Starting point is 00:29:35 night. I want to run the panel. It's not terrible. I don't like nicknames, but go ahead. The Remarkables. No. Mark? I mean, I get it. I'm just landed out there.
Starting point is 00:29:47 You want to call them the Remarkables? I didn't. I told him I would bring it up on the show. This is me bringing it up on the show. I'm a man of my word. Since Devastation Incorporated, I don't remember one that has really, really struck me. What if they capitalized the mark when it's really? There was a guy here during our pregame.
Starting point is 00:30:05 show that said he was going to do the away, away, away, away. Did he, did he hear anything? I've been hearing it. I mean, it's not catching on, but there are pockets of it trying their best. It should catch on. It gets a little louder and louder each game. You did it? I don't understand why. Here's what I, this is kind of the problem of Rupp Arena, because when we were in Fort Collins, Colorado, we were at a restaurant. I wasn't even the one that started it. Someone else did, and everyone did it, all 50 people. But it's like at Rupp, there are just people who are like, I refuse to have any fun. Do not make me have fun.
Starting point is 00:30:41 I paid these tickets, and I intentionally paid to not have fun, and so you're not going to make me do it. And that annoys me a little bit. I got the little opera binoculars. Yeah. They're wearing the Mr. Peanut hat, and they're like, you know what, this is not for excitement, and I don't enjoy that. Those famous pictures were some of the little ladies were crocheting during the game.
Starting point is 00:31:03 Oh, yeah. That stuff. By the way, somebody just sent me a picture. When that guy was standing up and cheering, if you look at the picture, one of the people side-eyeing him the worst is one of my best friends. Yes, it is. So I'm going to have to yell at him. Giving him the side-eye. The guy giving him the worst side-eye is literally one of my best friends, and I'm going to have to have a conversation with him.
Starting point is 00:31:24 Is he becoming an old man? Maybe he is. He's the culprit. He may be the culprit. We'll take a break. Be right back here at KSR. KS. Bar. It's Kentucky Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:31:36 T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. This might be my favorite Snoop song. This one is. Yeah, it's a little under the radar. And it's Harold Melvin without the blue notes, is what they say.
Starting point is 00:31:54 Do you know this song? I know this song, but I don't know who the blue notes are. Yeah, I don't either. I just know it from this song. That's the only one that I know. 859-280-2287. I want to play you something really quick. Last night, sometimes you forget when you're a Kentucky fan how cool it is for people
Starting point is 00:32:14 to play against Kentucky, especially these small teams. Colgate had a player named Parker Jones, right? Parker Jones, he was one of the guys with, like, hair everywhere. Like, he kind of had curly hair, and it was flopping, and he made some shots. And he, after the game, he was the Colgate player in the press conference. And I think it's cool to listen because we get so wrapped up. in the Kentucky basketball thing to listen what it's like for a dude that plays at Colgate to get to play in Rupp Arena. I thought this was a really cool, a really cool set of comments he made when he came in.
Starting point is 00:32:49 Go ahead and play it, Chip. First of all, this is pretty sick. I've never been in a press conference, so this is like just kind of high level for me. So I'm sorry if my answer isn't top level. But coming back in from halftime, I think we were all super ecstatic. Like, I mean, when you play a team like Kentucky, you kind of, at least personally, I dreamed of it in my backyard, like thinking about like Parker Jones subs in and he hits a three and then he comes down, like all this stuff that I think about in my head.
Starting point is 00:33:14 And I don't know, like being in this environment was really cool and just kind of surreal. That's really neat. That's awesome. I love that. I mean, he says he starts it by going, I've never been in a press conference before. Like I just see, I really like when people get to have moments like that. And that's what's really cool when these teams come in. And that's why I love it when they played Georgetown, a Kentucky West, or Transylvania to give these kids
Starting point is 00:33:37 that moment of playing in a big-time arena and a big-time atmosphere. I love it. Yeah, I was feeling it for all of them earlier in the game, but once they went up by two, any goodwill I had for Colgate, that went out the window pretty quickly. Y'all stopped making shots. But no, that is cool here. Another opponent came in other.
Starting point is 00:33:52 Yeah, that Parker dude hit a couple of the big shots last night. He hit two of the biggest ones. A couple of them was somebody in his face. Before I go back to phone, hey, Friday night, Shannon the dude wrestles in Georgetown at Country Boy, and then Saturday is our big pay-per-view show in Louisville. Try to come to one of them. Saturday's right after the UK Louisville game is over.
Starting point is 00:34:14 Friday night here at Country Boy, I'll be out there rooting Shannon on as he gets in the ring with his little tidy whiteies and gets beat up. Who am I wrestling, by the way? It doesn't matter. I'll beat him up regardless. You'll beat him up. But anybody in there, yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:27 But it's the return of Mr. Pectacular. Oh, cash flow certified. Like, they're all going to be there. All the big names are there. And for my purposes, we have an investor coming into town from Britain. So I hope it goes really well. Shannon, if you embarrass me, and then I'm on, you're going to have to answer to me. I'm going to make sure I tell them all about you, all the dirty details.
Starting point is 00:34:50 You better say, yeah, there's a lot to say. Who's next? Jason. Jason. Go ahead, Jason. Hi, Matt. Thanks for taking my call. I just have a comment and a question in regards to the Louisville football.
Starting point is 00:35:04 series. Basically, this is a mind-boggling fact, in my opinion. If you go back to 94 when the series got renewed, the home team is only 11 and 19. Is that right? Wow. So the road team has beaten the home one more than the home team in the UK of L series. I didn't realize that in football. 19 out of 30 times.
Starting point is 00:35:29 Yeah, the first four were in Lexington, if you remember, before their new stadium open. But Kentucky Kentucky won 8 out of 13 in Louisville, but only 6 out of 17 in Lexington. So maybe that offers a little hope for next year. But my question was about the series going forward and about all the talk that it might end. And I just wondered if you thought maybe
Starting point is 00:35:51 could they do that on a bi-yearly basis to it once every two years? I mean, they could. They could. So here, and I appreciate the call, here are the problems for the UK U of L series. First of all, as long as our season stays eight SEC games, we'll keep playing Louisville and football. I think that's fairly clear.
Starting point is 00:36:12 I think there was a big movement to go to nine, but I actually think Alabama not making the playoff has now made people back off from going to nine. Alabama was one of the teams, I believe, that was the biggest against going, and I think this will make it only bigger. So I think Alabama not making the playoff probably helps the Louisville series. Here's the other problem, though. I think there's a really good chance they're going to create an alliance with the Big Ten in the SEC where they play each other every year. They basically pair the teams off. I think if we play an eight-game SEC schedule, they could do that, Drew, and then we might still play Louisville.
Starting point is 00:36:56 If, however, they do that, and we have a nine-game SEC schedule, they could do that, and we have a nine-game season. schedule Louisville's gone. I mean that's just Louisville's gone at that point. So that's the thing to watch. I think an eight game schedule with the big 10 game, we might still play Louisville. But if it goes to nine and especially nine with the big 10 game, the Louisville series is done. Yeah. And any time Mitch Barnhart or Mark Stoops have been asked about it, which isn't often and hadn't even been that recent, but you can just tell by their tone that they feel like it should go away if SEC goes to a non-team schedule. It's just the way they've ever talked about it.
Starting point is 00:37:33 You kind of feel like they think it'll go away. The Alabama thing is interesting, because right now everybody's talking about how the strength of schedule doesn't seem to matter anymore. But I'm still in my back of my head, cherishing these last few governors' cups. I feel like it's on life support. I think the, you know,
Starting point is 00:37:50 I just don't see them wanting to make the schedule significantly harder, and I just don't think it's going to happen. I mean, you see what happens this year. If you add they don't play Louisville and they play somebody else, they might have had five wins and they think that looks better. I just, I think it's probably going to go away. I'm sure I'm like most fans.
Starting point is 00:38:10 I would hate it that they would lose that series, but I completely understand it. I mean, I get it why they would probably have to eliminate it if the schedule gets expanded like that. For my purposes, by the way, just for the record, I'm pro playing Louisville no matter what. I don't think this is a team that's ever going to consistently challenge for the playoff. We need to play games that fans care about. I think you play Louisville.
Starting point is 00:38:34 People care about, I mean, look at this year. Our team was a disaster, and we still went into that Louisville game with wanting to win, with a good crowd. If we were playing, you know, Moorhead that game, nobody's there, Drew. So I'm still pro-playing Louisville, but I think it's likely in trouble. Yeah, I'm in the same boat. It's where it is at the end of the year, as we saw a season ago, or this season. It can just change the way you look at things. Last year it definitely did. And we love having the bragging rights and being at the end of the year, you get those bragging rights until you play again.
Starting point is 00:39:07 Let me read you this question for the text machine. Matt, you're complaining about the Rup crowd. Why don't you rank Kentucky crowds, home away, neutral, etc.? Great question. Best Kentucky crowds, by far. SEC tournament. By far. By far.
Starting point is 00:39:25 Not even SEC tournament. the best. Second best, SEC road game where we take over the stadium for whatever reason. When you get a South Carolina or Georgia, and we get a huge block in there and then we win that second best. Third best, neutral site where our fans can drive. Atlanta, Indianapolis, Chicago.
Starting point is 00:39:53 I think then you get a great one. Fourth best. Something like we had last Saturday. Neutral site far away so that fans who live but don't get to come to a lot of games, they go. Worst. Rupp Arena. I mean, the problem is Rupp Arena is the worst U.K. fan environment.
Starting point is 00:40:18 I mean, does anybody disagree with that? Well, for a big game, I feel like Rup Arena can be the best arena in the country. You think a big game at Rupp is better. than the SEC tournament? No. But like when the North Carolina game, when Anthony Davis blocked this shot, you know, for a big game.
Starting point is 00:40:35 Okay. Florida came in number one. Yeah. The Tennessee game the last several years since they've been good. It has been on time. That's true. Yeah, the Auburn, like Alabama last year when we beat them by 30.
Starting point is 00:40:45 So for a big game, I think Rupp Arena is up there. But like for a game in November on a Tuesday night, it lacks some time. Now, we'll say this, though. The crowds this year, though, have been better. Been better than the last several years. So what do you think it'll be like, say, Saturday against Louisville? That's a game. It's weird.
Starting point is 00:41:04 That's a game where if that was in Nashville, I think we'd be insane. Will it be insane in Rupp? I still think it'll be insane. I mean, you have your regulars that have been going against for 50 years that just, they don't have as much energy and passion as the guy who's been twice and has been drinking all day. That's why it's not a fair fight comparing Rupp Arena to Nashville at the SEC tournament. Because it's a lot of people that don't go often. A lot of them are hammered.
Starting point is 00:41:28 It's a lose and go home situation. You just go in there with so much enthusiasm. You don't know if it's the last game of your weekend. That one's tough to top. But I also think, like, you were talking about that Georgia State game the day after Thanksgiving. I think the reason that crowd is so good is it's people who don't normally go. Yeah. Like they're home for Thanksgiving.
Starting point is 00:41:47 They get given the tickets or whatever, and you get a different set of people in there. I do think part – this is not – I'm not trying to criticize the people that go. They pay a lot of money and they deserve to have fun. but I think you get used to it and you sometimes don't appreciate how special it is to other people. I saw that with Mario the first time he had press credentials. He had never had them
Starting point is 00:42:07 and things I took for granted. He's like, whoa, and it makes you appreciate well, you know, I shouldn't take this for granted. I think sometimes that happens with the home fans. It's just natural. I totally agree with you. And I've already heard there's a big group of former players that are trying to get tickets
Starting point is 00:42:23 to the game Saturday. You know, like they know what this rivalry is all about. They want to come just be a part of it. You know, I got my, I got my sources. Were you got another one of these Lexington and speak-easies? Yeah. This was when you were hanging at one of the. Speak-Easies.
Starting point is 00:42:35 One of the dungeons in Lexington. Yeah. You're right that it's no one's fault, but as someone who goes to every game, even I get it. Okay, we're doing our brothers hunt camp. We're singing Duma's Walker. It's just a lot of, when you go every single night, there's not a lot of surprises. No more Dumis Walker. Just something else.
Starting point is 00:42:52 You don't like Duma's Walker? I love the song, but like, most of the song. Like our students weren't even born when that song came out. You know? When we win, it's Kentucky Headhangers. I get it. I went to the, to eat the sandwich, right? Yes, you did.
Starting point is 00:43:07 Slawburger. Slawburger. But, I don't know. Cotton I, Joe. Some of those things. That one should have been retired a long time ago. It has been. Moni's back, although they won't show dancing guys.
Starting point is 00:43:17 I'm actually going to go good with money. They need to show them on the screen. It's year-end savings at Don Franklin. Thousands of new and pre-owned vehicles. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
Starting point is 00:46:58 We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
Starting point is 00:47:14 And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the fly. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:31 Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Wait, what sex? Dating at 45. How high can it be getting naked at 50? with the new guy. That one's kind of hard. Well, that's lighting. They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try.
Starting point is 00:48:28 So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter, and dive into it, unfiltered and unbothered and ask, how hard can it be? Go to cornbread hemp.com promo code KSR. Rams and 49ers tonight is Thursday night football. What is our draft king's pick?
Starting point is 00:49:47 I'm on a roll here. I've won like five of these in a row. So let's do it again. 49ers are a three-point favorite. Who you got? I like the Rams cover that. What the 49ers lost like three of four. Rams just beat Buffalo.
Starting point is 00:50:00 Might be a little of a hangover, but I think they'll cover the three, whether they win or lose. 49ers just, you know, their snake bit this year, man, the injuries and they can't, they lose close games. So, yeah, I'm going with the Rams to cover.
Starting point is 00:50:11 Rams are my sneaky, sneaky, sneaky Super Bowl pick. Yeah. You got a bad pick. We've got to be really sneaky because it's unlikely, but if you were going to do like some crazy pick, they would be mine. So I'm going to take the Rams. Be your sneaky pick.
Starting point is 00:50:24 Be my sneaky pick. By the way, the Golden Globe nominations came out. I was sitting there looking at him. I am certain you have seen none, not one of the shows that is on the list. And I would venture to say you haven't even heard of most of them. Let's try it, because I probably am going to agree with you.
Starting point is 00:50:44 Well, you know, that's the one they do movies and television. Okay. All right. So let me go best motion picture. Which of these have you seen? All right. The Brutalist. Nope.
Starting point is 00:50:55 Complete unknown. Nope. Conclave. Yes. You saw one? I saw Conclave. Dune Part 2. No.
Starting point is 00:51:02 Nickel Boys. No. September 5th. No. All right. Best comedy. Okay. I've not even heard of those.
Starting point is 00:51:09 Those ones I said no? Not even heard of them. I haven't heard of a couple of them. We'll go to comedy or musical. Anora. No. Challengers. No.
Starting point is 00:51:17 Amelia Perez. No. A real pain. No. The substance. No. Wicked. I've heard of it, but no.
Starting point is 00:51:25 I'm not heard of the other ones. Not even heard of them. You didn't hear of challengers? It's about the tennis players, and it has Zinn Zinnata. No. Haven't heard that? Nothing about it. I'm all for 10 on this myself.
Starting point is 00:51:36 I saw a real pain. That's good. It's got the dude from Succession, the Culkin kid. Oh, okay. He's good. What's his name on Succession? You got Kendall. Karen Culkin in real life.
Starting point is 00:51:50 Yeah, but what's his name on the show? You got Kendall, Shiv. Oh, my goodness. I almost said Norman, but that's not it. Nice job. What is his name? Roman. Roman.
Starting point is 00:51:59 Roman, there you go. Roman. And then let me pull up. I want to get you the TV shows. Drew and I are old for two. I'm one for ten. I won for nine. You haven't seen.
Starting point is 00:52:07 All right, TV series. Day of the Jackal. Nope. I started that last night. Diplomat. Nope. Mr. Mrs. Smith. Nope.
Starting point is 00:52:15 Show gun. Nope. Slow horses. Nope. Squid game season two. I will watch it, but I've not seen it. All right. Abbott Elementary.
Starting point is 00:52:23 Nope. Bear. Yes. Watched all that. All right. So you've seen. I've seen all the bear. The gentleman.
Starting point is 00:52:28 No. Hacks. No. Nobody wants this. No. Murders in the building. I know that show, but I've not watched it. Shannon, he's not up to date on what's cool.
Starting point is 00:52:38 Well, is it Squig Game Season 2 even out? No, but they went ahead and nominated it even though it's not out. I mean, it's not out. It is weird that you would nominate Squid Game Season 2 when it's not even out yet. Based off of the first season, I guess. I guess. They think it'll be good. Who's up next?
Starting point is 00:52:53 Dennis. Dennis. Dennis. Go ahead, Dennis. Hey guys, how we doing? Doing good. A hypothetical question here. Yes, Mark Stoves hadn't been through five coordinators, five years, which Liam Cohen is a big part of that happening.
Starting point is 00:53:12 Yes. Do you think Bush Hamden would have been let go this year, and if he had a been, do you think you'd have went after Neil Brown? No and no. I don't think he would have been let out because I think Mark really believes. leaves him Bush Hamden. He thinks the problem was the offensive line and not Bush, and he didn't think there was a lot Bush could do. So no, I don't think he would have let him go. I also don't think he would have hired Neil Brown. I think he likes Neil Brown, but those are two very strong personalities, and I would have been surprised if he hired Neil Brown.
Starting point is 00:53:47 I don't think there's any ill will there. I just think I would have been surprised if that happened again. I think, you know, he brought Liam back twice, kind of worked. kind of didn't, and I think he would have been hesitant to do that again. All right. One last thing I'll get off here. I'm like you, Matt. I hate it when people do nicknames that don't come naturally. For example, the unforgettables of 1992.
Starting point is 00:54:15 I mean, they try to nickname that basketball team when you had like Ruff's Runs and the fill in five that came naturally. And every time I hear, every time I hear somebody say the unforgettable, I'm like, it did not come natural. It's a stupid nickname. Wow. There's a hot take. You should have saved that for the summer.
Starting point is 00:54:36 I appreciate the call. You should have saved that for unpopular opinion day. Doesn't like the name unforgettable. An unforgettable text to me two minutes ago. He's not going to like to hear about. He's not going to like that. What about the marksman for this team? Okay, you got to stop.
Starting point is 00:54:48 You got to stop. All these mark puns. Who's next? Chase. Chase. How are you, Chase? Doing great. How are you?
Starting point is 00:54:56 Good. Got like 30 seconds. Okay. Sticking with the nickname trend, I think it's important that we do name this team. It's going to be a historic team no matter what, win-lose-or-draw. It's Mark Pope's first year. I vote Island of Misfit Toys. Okay, see again, I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:55:14 Stop with the name. We're not, we're not calling the Island of Misfit Toys. That's not even nice. Like, that would be a mean thing to call them, the Island of Misfit Toys. Like, I don't think they want to be called Misfit Toys. That's not a thing. even like we're not it's not even nice right i think we need to do this segment even more i'd be like calling you like the fighting hair plugs like we can't we can't do that i would have miss fit
Starting point is 00:55:42 toys and of course the fact you like it makes me even less likely for it to want to be well like drew's too the marksman remarkable it's pretty good yeah i think we just need to pick between one of those two and call today what is wrong with you all right tomorrow beer nose in in New Albany. Come see us. Get there early for a seat. It tends to get crowded. Always something fun that happens there.
