Welcome everyone to Kentucky Sports Radio.
Our drive to Seattle, we are live in Iowa City, Iowa at the Pizza Ranch on Highway
1 with a wonderful set of Kentucky fans here in the party room at the Pizza Ranch on Highway 1,
ready to start our drive to Seattle.
You can give us the Charlotte Clark's Pubbit Shop phone line 859-2-80-2287.
A Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-7-745-254.
This edition sponsored by the T.J. Smith-Lavis.
You call T.J. I'll make them pay.
Look, there are a million things going on right now.
We played basketball on Friday.
We lost to Louisville on Saturday.
There are rumors.
There are all kinds of stuff going on.
We're going to go over as much of it as we can.
But we're also on a road trip where we're having fun,
and we'll try to balance it all as much as we can.
Rick, we're not going to answer the phone for a little while, okay?
It makes it easy for you.
Is that all right?
Sounds good to me.
Yeah, it sounds like you're already excited, Rick.
That's what I like to hear.
We are here in Iowa City.
Ryan Lemon, already four people here with us right now.
You got Matt, you got Austin, you got, give me your name again.
Anita.
Anita, and you got Devin, all who've made the trip from the Iowa City area.
And really, there's no better place to be in Iowa City than the party room at a pizza ranch.
Party room.
It is very party-tastic.
There is a lot of snow on the ground.
So big shout out to the four of these people that came.
You know, when I woke up this morning, I thought, Drew, I think we'll have people, but it's snowing a lot.
But it's Iowa.
These people are tough.
I'm impressed with the number four here.
I figured, you know, Devin over there, he usually makes our Iowa shows.
I was counting on him, but it's great to see three others.
And we'll call this a good crowd, given the circumstances outside.
Shannon, you love going on these trips every year.
I see the excitement in your face.
Are you glad to be in Iowa City?
I am.
I mean, of all the places in the world I could be right now,
Iowa City is the one place I want to be right now with all the snow.
And a pizza ranch.
Well, thank you to the pizza ranch for opening up early for us so that we could be here.
That was very nice of them.
Max, your second KSR road trip.
You were part of the drive yesterday from Kentucky to Iowa City.
How are you enjoying it?
I'm enjoying it a lot.
It's never too early to potty.
so I'm happy we're in the party room.
You know, there's Universal, there's, you know, Disney World, all that.
But this is where the kids want to come.
Pizza Ranch.
They've got the arcade.
I'm just worried about one thing.
Yeah.
If you look up there, it says maximum occupancy,
38 persons.
I've counted in here 72 seats.
I'm not sure that math works out.
And I don't know.
You know, I don't want to get them in trouble,
but that's 34 over the limit.
They're still social distancing.
Yeah, this is from the distancing.
Well, all right, so here's what we're going to do.
I want to talk about what's,
happened because we had a lot happened yesterday, but we also need to talk about the news.
So from 10 to 1030, we're going to talk about the game, the football situation.
Then at 1030, we're going to switch to a little bit of our trip.
I think we're going to have a guest at 11 o'clock.
I'm trying to get that worked out, but I'll let you know and then we'll do more.
Let's start with this.
I don't even want to talk about the UK of El game.
Who cares?
We lost.
You know, if you want to hear more of it, you can listen to the post game show on podcast.
We lost a U of L.
It stunk.
We'll not worry about that.
I think the story to talk about is what happened after the game,
which is Mark Stoop saying, not just saying he was going to return,
being very definitive about it.
Oh, look, we have number five.
All right.
Yeah.
Closer to 38, Max.
Yes.
But Stoop says he's going to stay,
and then yesterday a lot of stuff starts happening.
We lose two commitments.
Josh Katas' brother, decommits,
goes to Clemson. Our four-star running back, Marquise Davis, the commitment. That was a big
commit for Kentucky. Decommits is going to Missouri. Our recruiting class ranking went from 23 to 28.
Then yesterday, some reports that Vince Mero was considering going to Louisville. If you checked
your social media this morning, I was able to confirm this morning that, yes, that was true
that Louisville pursued him. This is the second time they've done it. And he has ended up
deciding to not go to Louisville.
A lot to digest. Let's start with number one. Mark Stoops is returning.
I'm going to go through all four of you. Thoughts. We'll start with you, Ryan.
I gave my thoughts on the postgame show.
And he was very definitive. Like, you know, hey, I'm going to be back at work tomorrow.
We'll be in my office tomorrow. We're going to work and build this up.
I needed to hear that because there was some uncertainty I think about his future we were going
to do. I want to hear that he wants to be here. He wants to be here.
I'm pretty worried of how it's going to look because his comments, didn't he say something like I know a lot of people want me out?
He said there's a lot of people who are rooting for me to, yeah, something or something like, sorry, it's not happening or something like that.
I'm worried it's like a spiteful return, you know.
We've talked a lot about how much he has a head and it got a lot harder yesterday losing two key pieces of his freshman recruiting class.
I'm just worried how it's going to look.
If he's truly committed, I mean, it's a huge.
huge task in front of him. I'm doubtful. It can be pulled off at all. I'll root for him. But I'm
just worried he's just coming back to just say, you don't want me here. I'm going to be here
just because you don't want me to. And it's kind of like the spite thing we're getting.
Shannon? I'm happy if he's coming back. Eight straight bowl games can't be ignored. I think
that's really good for Kentucky. That was broken, though, this year. It was. But I mean, does the
guy not get one bad year? I know it was really disappointing. He's had a lot of talent on this team.
So really underachieve considering the amount of talent. But I mean, if there's a guy that I want,
the team next year. For me, it's still Mark Stoops. I still believe. The three of you kind of
all over the spectrum. I mean, you're kind of happy he's coming back. I am. Yeah.
Ryan's kind of like, eh, but at least he's excited. And then Drew, you're kind of, I don't just,
I don't think it's going to work. This is a big rebuild. This is a multi-year rebuild.
I mean, he's already coached 12 years. He's not a coach here forever. So is he committed for a two,
three-year rebuild? With the portal being what it is, though, I mean, it's easier now to take a team from
nothing to a top 25 teams.
So I'm optimistic he can do it.
I think you're right that it is easier.
It's also easier for it to all fall apart.
You know what I mean?
I think it can go, I mean, look at yesterday.
There was a moment where we felt like the whole thing was going to fall apart.
I mean, I think if Vince had decided to go to Louisville, maybe it does fall apart.
And if he ends up staying here, that's a big movement going towards next year and keeping this together.
Max?
Yeah, I mean, he was never, you know, just going to walk away from this.
44 million. So, I mean, we all thought he'd definitely come back unless they came up with some
sort of offer, I guess, to try and bridge that gap. But I'm excited for him to be back. I'd love to
be in that coach's meeting yesterday. I mean, it's got to be a very harsh review of all positions,
including himself, obviously, but all coaches, all players, all staff members. And I think
we'll see some change over this week, I mean, at least in philosophy, but maybe in personnel.
I mean, he already talked about, we're going to have to have some conversation with some players
and say, hey, you've got to hit the road.
So I think it's going to be interesting to see what comes out this week,
what coaches have moved on, who leaves, who stays.
That review would have been pretty harsh.
I consider this almost like a two-part show.
I think if you want, I had a long review of the season
and where I think the program stands.
I kind of did all that on the post-game show,
so I would suggest to you listen to that.
I don't want to just repeat myself and spend this whole trip going into it.
I'm probably somewhere in between Ryan and Drew in the sense of like,
look, man, I don't think he deserved, like, I don't mind him having another shot,
but you got to show me, Mark, you're in.
Like, you got to show me, not only you're in, but like, are you going to,
are you going to bring some discipline to the program?
The program was a disaster in the last six to eight weeks of the season.
And that's why I thought I picked Louisville for the first time ever.
I thought Louisville was going to win.
The result did not surprise me at all.
I thought that was what was going to happen.
I think, in my opinion, the Vandy loss broke the team.
I was saying this to somebody yesterday.
I think they got shocked by the South.
I think they thought they were going to be really good.
They got shocked by the South Carolina game, and they were like, uh-oh.
And then everybody pressed, and then you got the good performance against George
in the win against Old Miss.
And then I think some arrogance creeped in.
The South Carolina, I think, was a fluke.
It's no big deal.
We had a buy week after Old Miss, if you remember.
I think those two weeks, I think things kind of broke down.
I think arrogance kind of creeped in.
I think a lot of stuff, some stuff happened with players, not getting in trouble,
but there were just some bad apples that I think spoiled the, it's not bad apples,
spoil the broth.
What is it?
It could be broth if you want.
You know, an apple's spoiled.
They still will spoil the broth.
Yeah.
Sure.
Bad apples will?
Spoil the pizza ranch.
One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch of girls.
That was Jackson 5.
One bad apple don't spoil the bunch of girls?
Don't spoil the whole bunch of girls.
That's not even English.
Yeah, Jackson, Michael Jackson.
He said that one bad apple doesn't spoil.
One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch of girls.
That's a song.
Okay.
I don't play that one next, Rick.
Rick will play that one.
Yeah.
All right.
But my point is there were some players, and I think the very,
bandy loss in some ways not only broke the season, but broke the morale the program.
Twice.
I think it hurt the fans, but I think it also hurt that.
And then I think it just starts slipping down.
I think everything kind of was a rolling train down.
I think at the by week, there was a lot of suggestion around the program.
Maybe a change needs to be made, which then made Mark Defiant, I think got him like,
I'm coming back.
I think he's been saying that for two or three weeks.
If you talk to people four or five weeks ago, they would have told you they thought
he was going to wait or it was going to end then i don't know he decided to be defiant i'm kind of with
drew defiance is really not always the way to make things work but he's a dude that whole youngstown
thing that maybe that's what does it i am told that the like meetings yesterday started early in the
morning and went like after i went to bed we'll just have to see i mean i he's coming back so
I'm like with Drew, I'm going to support him.
I don't like how this year went down.
And it culminates in that video of Gerald Mincy going to the concession stand during the game.
I mean, it's funny in some ways.
I laughed about it on the ESPN, but if you want a symbol of what was wrong with the year,
we had a player in his uniform walked to the concession stand during the Louisville game.
Now, granted, he was wearing sweatpants, but still, like, that to me was a symbol of the thing.
They brought in a lot of guys.
It hurt the culture.
Mark was not engaged enough to keep it going.
A couple of the coaches tried, but they didn't have his definitive head coach power,
and it slipped away, and then it got out of control.
They've got to turn that around, Ryan.
I know you're probably closer to the players than anyone amongst us.
You saw it coming.
You've been talking about it for weeks.
Do you think it can turn around?
I think it can turn around.
Everything you said, though, I agree with.
There was a disappointing end to a disappointing season,
and I think Mark did lose the locker room somewhere in the middle of the season
because some of the star players were not doing what was expected of them, you know?
And I think he did.
He kind of lost the locker room.
And if Vince had decided to leave, we talked about this in the car last night,
that would have been like, it's a sinking ship.
If Vince left, especially for Louisville, it's over.
Yeah.
I agree.
I mean, it's over.
You lost a third of the players at least.
I think the fan base would have been done.
So, I mean, and, you know, I know that there's people who like to joke around,
oh, the Vince job rumors happen all the time.
For me, I'll speak as much as I can speak.
There have been three times that I kind of thought he really considered it.
Once was the Michigan State time.
I think that was the closest one, right?
When the, or was it Michigan?
Michigan, the first one.
That was the closest one.
we've talked about that was a wild day
that's the closest one
now I think the Michigan state when he did seriously consider
and I don't know that I don't know how
but Louisville made I think a serious run at him here
and I don't know that it was decided
he was going to stay until this morning
that's huge
if we'd woken up this morning and he had taken
the Louisville job I didn't speak last night
because we all got to this hotel
and we sit there and looked at each other and we're like
if he leaves it's over
sinking ship.
But I do think if Mark was going to get this thing back going, that's a step one.
There are other steps, though.
I mean, there are other steps that we have to wait and see.
Yeah, just with the Vince Louisville thing, and the wind was blown at that direction last night,
I thought if that happened, A, the reaction to Vince is going to be more than he probably realizes.
I mean, he is beloved in Lexington.
I don't think that would have been the case moving forward if you just leave directly for a rival.
I mean, I was prepared to call him Little Dog.
I told you all this last.
I love Vince.
I was like, I'm going to call him little dog.
I'm going to have to start calling him little dog.
It will hurt me more than it will hurt him, but he will be the little dog if he does that.
Give the sound you were going to say.
Big dog's still here.
We don't have to get it.
It's going to hurt me more than him.
But I genuinely thought if he does go to Louisville, not just the reaction to Vince,
I thought it'd be the end of Stoops because I can't see Stoops starting this mountain he's got to climb without Vince beside him.
Because you assume if Vince left, you know, there's whispers about Brad White.
I just don't know how Stoops could walk in that room to having to rebuild everything and not having those guys around him.
I think, you know, well, there's a lot more parts of this, and I want to do one more segment on it.
Then I want to talk about yesterday just in general because it was a wild day.
And then we hope to have a guest on to start the second hour.
We are here in Iowa City.
We got five people.
What's your name?
Tim.
Tim.
Tim.
Five folks in Iowa City in a snowstorm at the Pizza Ranch.
That's why the BBA is the best.
We'll take a break.
Be right back.
This KSR.

What's up, fam, Ms. Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us every.
everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get to fly.
He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball.
Like, you go through a training camp with that Isaiah,
you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey everyone, it's Ryder Strong and Wilfredel from PodMeets World.
And now the Pod Meets Twirled podcast.
We're two men who were completely clueless to reality TV, who now have covered Dancing with the Stars, traitors, and we're gearing up for the season finale of Survivor.
So yeah, now we're experts.
I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners by our severe lack of survivor knowledge.
That is the point of this show.
I'm just going to remind you.
I have watched some Survivor.
I obviously haven't watched enough.
Did people not like it?
Like what was just because we?
Yeah.
We'll be recapping the big conclusion
of the 50th season
from the final attempts at gameplay
to the desperate pleas of finalists
to a bunch of ha, who.
Ha ha, who.
Again, we are experts.
So make sure to tune into PodMeets Twirled

There are times when the mind
becomes a difficult place to live.
This is David Eagleman with the Inner Cosmos podcast,
and for Mental Health Awareness Month,
we're dedicating a series to understanding the mind when it struggles.
I'm joined by doctors, researchers, and those with lived experience.
We'll talk with singer-songwriter Jewel about anxiety.
I started living in my car, and then my car got stolen.
I was shoplifting.
I was having panic attacks.
I was agoraphobic.
And making it through hardship.
To be present.
is a learned skill and it's hard to be present.
We'll talk with John Nelson about clinical depression
and the brain implant that saved his life.
What I learned is that procedure made me happy
because I'm disease-free.
And we'll talk with leading experts like Judd Brewer about anxiety
and John Hirschfield about obsessive-compulsive disorder
and the science of how the brain can change.
This is a month of deeply personal and honest conversations
about what happens when the brain goes off course and what we can do about it.
Listen to Inner Cosmos on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Agency, the ability to know that we're the experts in our own body.
On the podcast cultivating her space, Dr. Dom and Terry Lomax create a space where black women can show up fully and be heard.
I wholeheartedly think, you know, you hit 30, you shouldn't have to share one with anybody.
Mm-hmm.
From navigating friendships and healing to setting boundaries and prioritizing your mental health.
These are real, honest conversations.
We don't always get to have out loud.
Totally unreasonable with different parts of life, right?
Like, oh, have all three meals and make sure you're mindful during all of them?
Absolutely not.
During one meal, I'm standing.
I'm standing and handing my children food.
Because healing, empowerment, and resilience aren't just ideas.
their practices.
And this Mental Health Awareness Month,
there's no better time to pour back into yourself.
Listen to cultivating her space on the IHeart Radio app,

Welcome back.
It is the Kentucky Sports Radio here on the road trip.
Pizza Ranch at Iowa City.
By the way, I'm a huge pizza ranch person.
Can't wait for that buffet to open.
We're on central time here.
So as soon as this show opens at 11, the buffet opens, and we're going to go.
Plus, we have a member of the Iowa basketball managers.
Yes.
Iowa basketball managers here.
You can clap.
It's the party room.
Yeah, it's the party room.
We're not getting enough party.
The Iowa basketball managers is here, and he's going to take us to show us the Iowa
basketball facility when it's over.
I'm going to be shooting just like Caitlin Clark.
I'm going to be Luke Garza.
You're going to be Luke Garza.
I'm going to be BJ Armstrong.
Oh, I'm going to be one of the McCaffrey's.
Can we talk about what he said, the Caitlin Clark effect, what it's done for the Iowa.
with facilities and everything?
Well, he said the women's facility's been way upgraded, so they deserve it.
So, yeah, it's awesome.
All right, not surprisingly, Mack, Shannon, Ryan got the lyrics wrong.
I wondered if that was that.
First of all, it's the Osmond's and not the Jackson Five.
And what did you say it was?
One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch of girls.
That's what I said.
Not the lyrics.
One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch, girl.
Yeah, comma.
comma, girl.
He's talking to the girl.
It's not one bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch of girls.
It's one bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch, comma, girl.
Never underestimate the importance of a comma.
You left the comma out, and it's a completely different scenario, Max, without the comma.
Yeah, Skip Bayliss learned that this year with the comma.
I remember his tweet, but I was looking forward to the Jackson 5 from Rick,
and then he didn't play it, so Rick obviously picked up his mistake early.
Yeah.
And the Jackson 5 and the oddsman's not a lot.
like at all.
They were both really popular at the same time.
Yeah, but they don't do the same kind of music, and they're like, they're not the same.
I think once you hear the song, though, you'll really enjoy it.
Rick, see if you can find it, okay?
I will.
Our guy with the Ryanisms needs to add that line.
That was great.
One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch of girls.
I don't know why you would have thought that that was a bit.
Eight-year-old Ryan heard that as...
Well, you heard it wrong.
Okay, so back to what we were talking about in terms of the year.
Max, you were there.
when the culture was the best.
I know you're not there now.
But talk to me about the difference
of when the culture was the best
versus some of the stuff I've talked about
that happened this year.
To me,
and I bring this up all the time,
but you still can't discount the impact
of losing Coach Slaman.
Like, seriously, in that locker room,
in that whole facility,
how good he was at leading men.
Obviously Stoops is great.
But that O line is the power of that team.
Like, that big blue wall
used to be our identity.
All those guys,
were NFL draft picks or future NFL players,
and they led the locker room.
They would tell guys when to do things, how to do things.
They just led from the front.
Since then, that's falling off.
I mean, our old line's probably the worst group we have right now.
And if the big blue wall is crumbling,
then everyone around it crumbles.
And it's very hard for wide receivers to lead the pack.
And it's not just plain.
The offensive line probably should be your, like, best character guys.
Yes.
And I think you could make an argument that
couple of them were our worst character guys this year.
I mean, you saw Mincy at the concession stand.
You can't do that.
Like, I'm not trying to crush the kid, but he's at the concession stand.
He walks up in the gate.
It's not even halftime.
The game is going on.
It's in the middle of the third quarter.
Do they not have snacks in the locker room he could get?
There's so many as well.
Literally you do.
That's the bigger problem for me is the discipline.
I mean, you can, if you don't have discipline in your locker room,
you have lost the entire team.
And then once you lose the locker room, you can't get it back.
And we don't know the circumstances around it.
but also Walla's Instagram story about him being in Miami?
It's like, what are you doing?
Maybe that's a family situation.
I'm not trying to crush the kid.
But DJ Waller posts a picture of him at a party in Florida the night before.
So he wasn't even at the game.
It was during the game on Instagram.
It was like, where's the party tonight in Miami or something like that?
And those are two guys you went in the portal and probably paid good money for.
Mincy especially.
He was supposed to be one of the guys to come save the line and he's in line getting hot dogs.
Mency, you know, a lot of people focus on Barion and Dionne Walker.
I think those guys could have worked harder, Ryan, without question.
But I don't think they're the people that spoiled the locker room.
Do you?
No.
I think it was some of the other ones.
But again, I'm not going to just put it on those kids.
The coaches let them do that, Ryan, like they let them do that.
I think it's something that has been building over the last couple years.
And for whatever reason, this year, it just seemed to finally catch up to them.
I think they kind of let some of their superstars slide over the years.
I mean, we've talked about Lynn Bowden.
Bowden can do whatever he wanted and they kind of just let it go.
I've talked about this, Max, but why were you guys able to overlook when Lynn did that stuff?
I think you've mentioned it before.
Maybe Caliperi says you can have one.
And he was that one for us.
Like, we're fine with you doing whatever you want to do.
But if you go out there on Saturday and don't perform, then you're not going to be out.
He went out there and rushed for 240 a game, you know, four touchdowns, ran for six.
like if you want to do that, then we're happy because you're producing on the field.
But if you're not producing on the field, you can't just do whatever you want.
It wasn't out there getting hot dogs.
It was also leading really well.
And I don't know.
It's just, it's obviously slipped.
Stoop said it slipped.
Like he said it's my fault.
I let it slip.
That's why they did say that.
He did say that.
Do you think they could turn that around?
It's about I thought Macklin in the interview, a guy that came from another school, has been here one year.
His post game.
He even said, like, someone asked how does this change?
He's like, the leadership has to change.
and just hearing a player say that who had just gotten here.
I know he came from a mid-major,
but he probably seemed like he had an eye-opening experience
of just how out of control might have been behind the scenes.
Yeah, and then, you know, I mean a lot of the quarterback position,
I think Brock seems like a good guy.
But when you're getting beat up,
Shannon by offensive line, getting beat up in part because of offensive linemen
who are at the concession stand,
it's hard to feel really excited about it.
I mean, I will tell you, I don't know if this is true.
Brock will not be here next year.
I won't be shocked if he doesn't play football next year.
And that's a pretty sad statement for what some of the other folks let happen, to be honest with you.
I mean, I'm just being real.
I kind of feel bad for that kid.
I do.
Yeah, it didn't work out here.
And he's not coming back to be second string.
So if he goes somewhere else, he's going to have to be the starting quarterback wherever he ends up.
I think about that hit he took at Tennessee.
They let a top 15 draft pick go untouched.
Untouched.
And just crushed him.
Yeah, and he really wasn't the same sense.
Okay, so let's say Vince is staying.
What else has to happen to give you confidence next year?
Like what else, what are the other pieces that need to fall into place?
Just for me as a fan, I would think I want to see some staff changes.
I think he's got to at least give the impression and make the effort to improve the staff.
I think that'll go a long way for me.
You know, you're going to lose some of your superstar players this year.
Some of them are going to go to the NFL draft.
But I think you need to lock.
up though some of these guys are kind of on the friends what about willcox there's old miss boards
are saying they think will cox will go to old miss he's the one i was going to see you got to lock
him up you got to keep him here willie rodriguez is one i think you need to make sure you try to
keep him there's got to be changes at the offensive color polly you got to make sure you try to
i totally agree you're going to lose some of the other guys but those these younger stars you got to keep
them here um i'm told waller was not in florida that even though that said that okay so that's
still while we're posting during the game about yeah you shouldn't be posting during the game
yeah yeah no matter what but i mean that yes that's to your point you're
point. Whether or not he was there or not, he's posting during the game. You know, that's not
good. Yeah. I mean, some of these stories, and you just add them all together, it just shows,
like, how is there zero discipline? And we're mentioning a lot of the people that came in out of
the portal that we thought were good additions, and we don't have a lot of great things to say about
what they brought to the program, and they were probably very expensive.
All right. So we're going to talk about that. Now I want to talk a little bit about this trip.
We've had a lot of fun, and I've got to tell you about the ESPN show yesterday, which was insane.
take a break. We'll be right back. This is KSR.
That was clearly a comma.
No. One bad apple, don't spoil the whole bunch.
Girl, went right into it. There was no comment.
He was a whole bunch of girls.
You added a word of. You added the word of.
And made girl plural.
I think Donnie Osmond sang it that way a couple times.
I don't think he ever sang it.
8, 5, 9, well, we're not answering the phone right now.
Okay, so one kind of sad note, but I do want to note, since we have a guy here who's a manager
for the University of Iowa basketball, Austin.
He said, Matt, my friend Brett passed away this weekend.
He had a wife and two young kids.
He lived in Kentucky, but he was actually an Iowa fan.
All of his buddies were UK fans, but he loved Iowa basketball.
So I think it's cool you guys are in Iowa City and going to tour the Iowa facilities today.
That's kind of neat.
So for Brett, we will do it in his honor.
We will tour the facilities today.
I'm just worried when they go to practice this afternoon, the uniforms aren't going to be washed and dry,
ready, seeing as he's taking the day off to come listen to us.
Oh, that's not his job.
Austin says that's not his job.
He's climbed that ladder.
All right, let's talk about what happened yesterday.
We got up, left Lexington like 715 in the morning, got off towards Cincinnati.
I was doing ESPN Bingles pregame at Jefferson Social.
I got to say to you Bengals fans, and I know there's a lot of you that are also UK fans.
Y'all are the drunkest people I've ever seen in my life.
I mean, the Bengals play the Steelers.
there, Jefferson Social, well, first of all, when we get there at first, I asked the waitress.
I'm like, will there be a lot of people here today?
And she goes, oh, wait and see.
She was like starting about 11.30.
It's a club in here.
And I was like, oh, come on, it's 11.30 in the morning.
Stop it.
And, you know, I got to do a radio show.
And, you know, Shannon, a lot of times I don't even like people to talk during the radio.
I've heard, yeah.
Got another one.
Yeah, number six.
At least once a remote.
Keep it down back there.
Keep it down.
But I understood, okay, there's going to be a lot of things.
First of all, a ton of Kentucky fans came by.
Probably had 50 people come by, right?
Easy.
With the course of the thing.
So thank you all to all that did.
It was awesome to meet people, including thank you to the young woman who we had a John
daily life-size stand-up at our bar and it disappeared and we didn't know where it was.
She told me that she was there, partied so hard once time.
She woke up the next morning with the John Daily thing in her bed next to her.
I'm a big John Daily fan.
I would have loved to have seen it.
But she said, I looked up and I turned around and there was a John Daily life-sized figure.
That would be scary if you didn't know that.
We were really worried about someone stealing that and ended up in a frat house.
But I think that's the way our John Daily statute need to go out.
It went home with someone.
But I want to tell you right now, if you got some time today, go download the Sunday mornings with Matt Meyer and podcast.
If you haven't subscribed and downloaded it anyway, do that for me just because it's good.
ESPN likes our numbers.
But you need to listen, especially hour one's fun, but two and three.
How loud was it?
There for a while it turned into MTV Spring Break at Daytona Beach.
I mean, it was rocking in there.
And I was trying to do a radio show.
I couldn't hear anything.
I was two feet away from you and couldn't hear a word you and Myron and I couldn't.
I could barely hear Myron.
I could not hear my producers.
There's people dancing, grinding on each other.
Mario was drunk by 1155.
5 a.m.
Off half a fireball.
Mario, did you say he almost threw up on someone?
Oh, I can't tell on my guy, but I'm going to tell on it.
We met some friends at a big table.
We were hanging out with them.
KSR listeners.
They were like, hey, before you all go, let's do a little fireball for the road.
So we do a fireball together, and Mario's almost came back up.
But that, it happens.
It was early.
I can tell that Mario has a look when he's drunk, Shannon.
His eyes get a little happy, and he starts going, well, the fagels and the Steelers.
I'm like, it's not even noon, and we're driving to Iowa today.
Mario got a quick start.
He's got more fireballs, I think, in the back seat.
We need to, like, you know, slow the pace a little bit.
His day started, he couldn't even walk up your driveway at your house.
He slipped and fell down.
My man, it's not quit for snow.
He could not walk up my driveway.
He fell down multiple times trying to get up my driveway.
But I just want to go back to how loud it was on that bar.
When I walked in, I mean, it's going, bo-to-ch-bo-chut-bo-choo-to-bo-choo-and.
It's like the bass is rolling.
They've got the music turned up to 11.
And I'm going, how in the world?
old, are they doing a radio show right now? It was very loud. It didn't really come through the
mic. Now, my producer was terrified because they were not playing the radio mix.
Clean versions. The good thing was it didn't really, you couldn't really hear the words through
the mic. You could just hear the noise. So you couldn't really hear. But my producer is freaking out.
You can't tell. He's like, what's going on? Myron is, I mean, we can't hear each other. And then my
produce to be like, talk about the Jaguars. And I'm like, hey, Myra!
Like, it was, you need to listen to it. It was a circus.
We got out of there for a little bit because it was too loud for us, me and Drew, and then we
almost froze to death. But, no, it was an awesome experience. So then we drive, we drove last
night. This is one of the craziest things I've ever seen. We have this thing where who picks the
restaurant is going to rotate. Drew was up first. Night one. I got this. First, I thought we'd
to like Bloomington or normal Illinois.
But then I was making such a good time.
I made good time.
We made great time yesterday.
We got through there.
Then I was like Peoria and then we got through there.
And then I said to Drew, it looks like we're going to be around Galesburg, which I didn't
even know was a place.
Galesburg, Illinois, for dinner.
I said, pick us a place in Galesburg, Illinois.
He says nothing in Galesburg, but there's a barbecue place called Big Cats barbecue in Knoxville,
Illinois, right?
Yeah, I was excited about it.
We pulled in.
We pull in, and again, Ryan doesn't know his name a lot of the time.
And when we pull in, Ryan goes, we've been here before.
And you go, no, we haven't.
No, we haven't.
What are you talking about?
How have we been to Big Cats Barbecue in Illinois?
And then all of a sudden, I look and I go, wait a minute.
We have been here.
We have been here before.
I don't know how this happened, but many of you may remember our trip to the caucuses in Iowa.
Yes.
We did a post-game show in Knoxville, Illinois.
and a girl, only one person came.
We didn't know we were going to stop there.
We were like, hey, if you're close by, come.
A woman drove.
She got there.
We couldn't get service.
We had to do the show sitting in our van, and she got in the van.
She did.
Which they probably don't say you should do.
Don't get in a white van.
Don't get in a van with a bunch of guys.
But she did, and the four of us did the postgame show with her sitting in the van,
and that was at Big Cats Barbecue.
Big Cat's Park.
Yep, no doubt about it.
We ate, barbecue, went out in the parking lot to do the postgame show.
She said she left her husband at home and came to sit in with those two postgame show.
How in the world?
Like, what are the odds that you would end up in a tiny town?
We had to drive five miles off the interstate to find the restaurant,
and we would end up at the exact same restaurant, Drew, that we ended up at five years ago.
Listen, you want me to pick a restaurant?
I'm going to pick the best one for the road trip.
He's consistent at least, you know?
Even when I was looking at it had a picture, and I was like,
that looks like that place we were at that one time.
And I thought it was like New Mexico because you know we're everywhere.
And then Ryan spotted it.
That little nose perked up as soon as he stepped out of the van.
He's like, I've been here.
So you, what did you think?
You know, you're traveling across the country, Max.
What did you think of Illinois?
It was good.
It was obviously very cold.
I know a lot of people commented on Twitter that they thought it was strange.
We're all still wearing our snow jackets in the car.
Matt did keep the air conditioning down to 60 for some reason.
That's okay.
But no, it was great.
I know Drew thought there was possibly NyQuil in his beans.
I do feel like I was given something I didn't need it.
And then RIP to the staff member that passed away mid setting up the Christmas decorations in there.
There was Christmas decorations, but they were half done and all the boxes were left out.
You really, really, really, really like Christmas decorations.
Why is that?
I don't know.
I just really like Christmas.
I've always liked Christmas lights.
Do people do that in Australia?
Did they put up lights and stuff?
Oh, yeah, Christmas exists.
But why are you so you're enamored by it?
I don't know.
I just like it.
I guess whenever I was growing up, I just like.
Americans do Christmas lights better.
Well, you do it better because we don't get the snow and we don't get the cold.
We do it in the warm.
So, like, the sun never goes down, so you never really see the lights.
Like, over here, there's snow, there's darkness, there's lights, it's awesome.
Yeah.
So we, and then we got to Iowa City last night, and here we are.
Now, to those of you listening, I need your help.
The way this works, we're kind of in between places, all right?
There's no clear place to go.
We were going to go to my buddy's ranch tonight, but we can't because of the UK game on Tuesday, the timing doesn't work.
So we think we're going to stay tonight in Kearney, Nebraska.
Home of the Loak.
Kearney.
Kearney.
Kearney.
Kearney.
Carney.
Like a carnival.
Like a carnival ball.
So Kearney, Nebraska.
It looks like Kearney.
Why do they say Kearney?
It has an E.
Do they not know what E's are in Nebraska?
They have lots of weird people.
Okay, so Carney, Nebraska is where we're going to be, K-E-A-R-N-E-Y.
I'm a little worried because it's in the middle of nowhere, but we need a person.
I'm not worried about, like, I'll find a place to stay and eat.
I need something.
We need someone to continue this streak.
This streak's been going on for a decade.
Can you just follow us to the next?
That's a long way for you, though, isn't it?
Yeah, well, you're welcome to come.
There you go.
But if you are in Kearney, Nebraska, I would love to have you come so we can continue
the street. I don't know where it'll be. I'll tweet it out tonight. Probably be in the lobby
of whatever hotel we stay at. But, uh, Ryan, Carning, Nebraska, that one rural place in New Mexico
was where we thought the streak was going to end. And somebody called their dad and told him to
come and he came and he didn't even know who we were. I'm a little worried about Carning, Nebraska
tomorrow night. I've never heard of Carning, Nebraska. Don't even know where it is in Nebraska. So I got
to do my own research. You had a buddy that coached there, right? I was going to say, home of the
Lopez. Tristan Yom is my former long snapper was a coach there.
Former Kentucky Park.
Former Kentucky player.
So we do have maybe a get-out-out-Jafrey.
He said he might make a few calls if we get desperate.
I don't want people, though, who don't know who we are to feel like that.
Well, they know who Tristan is, and Tristan, by default, knows who I am.
So, you know, roundabout way.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, either way, tomorrow we will probably be in Cardi, Nebraska.
859-280-2287.
We're going to take a break, and we will be right back.
We are on the road here in...
Where are we?
I was sitting.
This is...
This is...
This is...
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Last night, a blown call changed a game.
This morning, the internet lost its mind.
Highlights are trending, opinions are flying,
and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
That's where Sports Slice comes in.
I'm Timbo.
Every episode, we're cutting through the noise,
breaking down the plays, the controversies,
and the stories behind the headlines.
We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves,
their locker room stories, their reactions,
the stuff nobody gets to hear.
The laughs, the drama, the triumphs,
the moments that never make the...
highlight reel. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls,
we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered.
Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them.

What's up, fam? This Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm CJ Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds.
Brian heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And then he has to give us everything he gives.
us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers
while he got the ball.
Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah,
you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app,

Hey, everyone.
It's Ryder Strong and Will Ferdell from Pod Meets World.
And now the Pod Meets Twirled podcast.
We're two men who were completely clueless to reality TV,
who now have covered Dancing with the Stars, traitors,
and we're gearing up for the season finale of Survivor.
So yeah, now we're experts.
I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners
by our severe lack of survivor knowledge.
That is the point of the show.
I'm just going to remind you.
I have watched some Survivor.
I obviously haven't watched enough.
Did people not like it?
Like what was...
Yeah.
Just because we...
Yeah.
We'll be recapping the big conclusion
at the 50th season
from the final attempts at gameplay
to the desperate pleas of finalists
to a bunch of...
Ha, who.
Ah, ha, ooh.
Again, we are experts.
So make sure to tune into PodMeets Twirled

There are times when the mind
becomes a difficult place to live.
This is David Eagleman with the Inner Cosmos podcast, and for Mental Health Awareness Month,
we're dedicating a series to understanding the mind when it struggles.
To be present is a learned skill.
and it's hard to be present.
This is a month of deeply personal and honest conversations
about what happens when the brain.
brain goes off course and what we can do about it.

On the podcast cultivating her space, Dr. Dom and Terry Lulmex create a space where black women can show up fully and be heard.
I wholeheartedly think, you know, you hit 30, you shouldn't have to share one with anybody.
Mm-hmm.
from navigating friendships and healing to setting boundaries and prioritizing your mental health.
These are real honest conversations.
We don't always get to have out loud.
Totally unreasonable with different parts of life, right?
Like, oh, have all three meals and make sure you're mindful during all of them?
Absolutely not.
During one meal, I'm standing.
I'm standing and handing my children food.
Because healing, empowerment, and resilience aren't just ideas, their practices.
and this mental health awareness month, there's no better time to pour back into yourself.

Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
859-2802287.
We are here in Iowa City.
Some Kearney Nebraska facts.
All right, let's go.
Sand Hill Crayin Capital of America.
corporate headquarters of the buckle
The buckle
I forgot my belt
Maybe we could run by there
Do you remember the buckle?
Yeah, you go to a mall and there's a buckle
The store?
That's right.
How about that?
I didn't know what that was
Now when you say that,
I'd store in the mall.
Is that still around?
I think so, yeah.
I think fair a mall still has a bucket.
Let's go get some skinny jeans.
Let's go.
I bet they have a good buckle there
if that's the capital.
I'm sure, yeah, better than all those other knockoffs.
Yeah, so we will be doing that.
Now, the snow, what do we think of the snow?
We didn't expect to encounter this snow since we got.
We didn't.
Who didn't?
You're going out in the Midwest in the middle of winter?
You didn't think there was no forecast for snow.
Well, I mean, there was.
If you checked it, there's always snow.
Most of us brought boots.
A couple of us didn't bring boots.
Look, who's got snow boots on?
I'm not worried about it.
These are Joe Fresh Good shoes.
They're going to be good.
They're going to be fine.
There's a moment yesterday we were driving and you were like,
Ryan, why don't you look up the weather?
And I kind of thought, is this our first time looking at the weather on this?
this trip? It looks like where we're going, it's going to be but cold, but no snow.
It's but cold here. It's 20 degrees right now. It is going to be very cold. What did you think,
guys? I'll start with you, Max, of this weekend, all the fights over the flags on the field.
It was crazy, wasn't it? I mean, there was four or five of them. It wasn't just one. I think
probably the first few teams did it, and then the other teams thought they'd get involved.
If I was to give my honest take, I don't see the point in, well, you've got to be gracious when you win, right?
just leave the flags away, leave them out of the logos.
Like, I know you won, but is that not good enough?
Like, I don't know.
I just think be gracious when you win.
Don't put the flag in there and don't start something.
If you beat us, you can plant your flag, but you've got to replace your divot.
It's just like golf.
But, yeah, I mean, if you don't like it, beat the team is what I always say.
So, I mean, there was pepper spray involved in one of the fights was at the Michigan, Ohio State.
First of all, I'm shocked at that reaction from you, Max.
Like, I love the flag planning.
If you don't like it, beat them.
If you don't like it, beat them.
Quit trying about it.
The people going around and pushing each other, beat them.
Beat them.
They're on your home field.
They beat you.
Now, it's kind of silly to plant a flag drew into artificial turf because you can't plan it.
Like, it doesn't really work.
But, like, I'm kind of with Michigan guy.
They got to learn how to lose.
I'm not anti-celebrating on the other team's field, but also, like, the Ohio State player that lost his mind trying to get the flag.
I can see why he would also take offense to it and lose his mind also.
I mean, I don't mind the fights.
I'm for it.
Let them go.
Now, the pepper spray.
I think the, like, it feels like they overreacted with the pepper spray, right?
Like, don't you think that's a little much?
Now, you guys may know the answer to this.
For what I thought, the only people that got pepper sprayed were the Michigan guys.
Like, the cops be not.
And Pat 40 got pepper sprayed.
Columbus Police, they know who there is.
The policeman seemed like he just closed his eyes and just held the button down.
Like, it was just going everywhere.
Yeah, he was pepper spraying everybody.
Like, it feels like there is, I don't know.
First of all, Gus Johnson way overreacted.
He way overreacted.
He was like going.
And then Gus Johnson's call.
He lost his voice.
He lost his voice in the middle of it.
That's worth playing.
That was, yeah, Rick, you got to find that.
It's on my Twitter account.
Rick, you think you could find that?
Gus Johnson calling the interception?
I'll do my best.
You'll get back a little bit, but you'll find it.
You'll find it.
It was on Saturday.
The Gus Johnson going,
he sounded like a boy going through puberty when Ohio State got that interception.
That was great.
Sound like Peter Brady when he lost his voice.
How embarrassing, like, was it for you, Drew, who likes to talk so much trash to Louisville
when we got just destroyed?
I wouldn't say embarrassing is the word because I was more just upset with Kentucky's own problems.
If it had been a one-off situation, Louisville just coming here and stolen one, I think that'd be embarrassing.
It was, we had other issues, like, as we said, a player getting a hot dog,
or what's the future of Kentucky?
So I'm not dodging the Louisville trash talk, but it's like, I got enough problems to worry
about Louisville celebrating.
I've never been less nervous or sad about a loss to Louisville.
Probably, Ryan, because I expected it for moment one.
I just expected it.
And then for me, it was all about what are we doing for the future.
I wanted to hear what Stoop said on the post game.
What about what did you think about what he said?
I mean, it was like, I know there's some people with wishful thinking wanting me gone.
Well, they're going to be disappointed.
My butts back to work.
It was very, he was, he took responsibility, but he was also very defiant as well.
Yeah, that's what, like I said earlier.
I wanted him to take a little responsibility.
But almost like he was like, just telling everyone else, he does pay attention to the noise.
He hears the noise.
You can't be doing that.
You're the head football coach.
We got to.
But what about, like, saying?
I know some of you want me gone, but I ain't going anyway.
He's kind of like Billy.
He's like, I'll take responsibility, but I'm not saying I'm sorry, okay?
Like, that's what happened, and here we are.
But you like that?
It's weird to say with such definitiveness, y'all going to be upset that want me gone.
I'm here.
It shows a commitment to me.
It's better than last year when he was flirting with Texas A&M.
I kind of like that because I want him back.
Now, if you don't want him back, you don't like that answer.
But for the people he do...
I know, but I can't articulate what I'm trying to say.
I mean, here's what I would...
Look, Stoops is coming back.
I want him to do well.
I will support him in his attempts to come back.
Stoops considered certainly and almost went and maybe even tried to go,
depending on who you talked to to Texas A&M last year.
And he did it, and if he had decided to do it,
he wouldn't care that he made a lot of people sad.
I think it is kind of wrong to sit there and go,
I know a lot of y'all want me gone, but I'm coming back.
Well, a lot of us wanted you to stay last year when you thought about leaving.
Right?
Like, I just thought that was a little much.
I think I said to somebody, I thought 80 to 90 percent of his postgame comments were dead on
and what you need to say.
But, Drew, I didn't love that one because I felt like it's just a little chesty for me.
Dude, you went four and eight.
Like, you went four and eight.
Now, he did say, I get why you all are up.
upset. I appreciate that. It wasn't like Cal who was always like, why are you getting upset?
But then he also, what's weird to me about Mark Stubes is he will say one thing that's exactly
right and then counter it with the exact opposite opinion. So he'll say, I understand why people
are upset. I feel like I let them down. I'm going to fix it. But by the way, I've done a bunch
of stuff here. Nobody else has. Well, I thought you said you understood why they were upset.
Like, do you understand? Because if you understand. Because if you understand.
understand you wouldn't say that second part i don't it's almost like he there's like two sides of him
at war and he ends up saying both of those things true yeah that's why i brought up right away in our
in the first hour of the conversation i didn't love the just i know you want me gone part it's
i mean these people are supposed to be supporting you and you're kind of like i'm coming back
anyway whatever you think and i just don't feel like that's a good way if you're really trying to
fix this and rally everyone behind you kind of just saying i'm doing this regardless didn't seem like
the greatest way to get everybody behind you.
When he said he was taking his butt back to work the next day,
I wanted a Mike Tyson-style video of him walking into work that day.
I wanted him to kind of have the butt cheeks out.
But I agree with you, though, Matt.
It kind of sounded like he was like almost, you know,
when you're fighting with your girlfriend or something,
you admit to it, but you're almost doing a billy.
You admit to it, but you don't fully admit to it.
Yeah, you don't always admit to it.
And yeah, it wasn't.
So that's why, I mean, it is embarrassing what happened against Louisville,
and we never want to see that again.
So there's got to be changes, and hopefully he makes a harsh review,
and make some changes.
There's just so much to do, including the offensive line.
And he said with a pretty detailed plan a week or two ago,
you know, Wolford's a great recruiter.
We're going to go out, we're going to fix this offensive line.
And then the first piece of news is an offensive line.
You're going the wrong way already.
And going to the concession stand.
All right.
We will take a break.
Come back.
