Welcome back. It is our number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, here live in Salt Lake City.
Look at all these people making friends here amongst the Kentucky community.
Mario is filming people.
Kentucky fans ask them questions.
I don't know what it is with these kids.
I was saying, like, you know, he's taking me into, like, learning a whole new world of types of people, Shannon.
Yeah.
And, you know, they put their camera right in your face.
That's right.
You know what I mean?
Got to be camera ready at all times.
Camera's always on.
They put it right in your nostrils.
Like, if you have nose hairs, the world's got.
I'm like, can you back that camera up just a little bit?
He's like, it's a vibe.
He goes, that's a vibe.
And I'm like, the vibe is showing every blemish on my skin.
I don't know if that's the vibe.
But that's the way he does.
My vibe is normally, you know, the further away you are, the better the vibe is.
The better you look, right?
Yeah, for me at least.
I don't know about you.
Yeah.
He likes it to be right up in your face, right?
Well, I guess when he's doing videos, you need to get close to get that audio.
You can hear the audio a little better.
I think we got a clip on Mike we can use.
Yeah.
I think you can just back up.
Just a hair.
859-280 2287.
All right, so Kentucky and Kentucky and Gonzaga play on Saturday.
The spread is not out yet.
That'll come out probably sometime.
afternoon. Gonzaga blew out Baylor by 40 looked like a juggernaut. Then they lost to
West Virginia and we're down 15 most of the game, which was kind of weird. Beat San Diego
State, pounded them at San Diego State. San Diego State then went and played well. So
they've looked great in every game except West Virginia. So maybe that was just a fluke.
How do you see it going on Saturday, Drew? I think it's going to just be a fun matchup because
Gonzaga is always at the top and points scored this year.
I think they're averaging 91.
I don't know the exact rankings at this moment,
but, you know, UK is right up there with them.
I think the two styles are going to be a lot of fun and make it a good high-scoring game.
You think it's going to be a ton of points?
I think so.
They play, Pope, we even said this.
They play a little like Clemson inside.
They're a little stronger, rebound well.
They got some dudes down low.
Not just an up and down.
And their dude, I feel like their whole team, we know them all.
I mean, we played Gonzaga last year.
You got Nimhart, you got Hickman.
Hickman, who was committed to you.
people forget that we're facing a former what's the big's name the grandma i think it's pronounced
e k but it's spelled like ike yes he killed us last year yeah then they added battle from arkansas
who played really well right kentucky last year all these guys average between like 11 and 13 points
the scoring's pretty spread out but a lot of familiar names that we've seen in games before
mark pope said ryan after the game said in his press conference yesterday i'm more confident
in this kentucky team after the clemson game than i was before
And his argument was they got down seven, they were getting outworked, out rebound, out everything, and yet they still came back, took the lead, and it was a one possession game with three minutes to go.
Do you agree with that attitude?
Are you more confident after the Clemson game?
I'm going to take the last two games, the Western Kentucky and the Clemson game, where they didn't have their best shooting night, so they had to find a different way to claw their way back into it.
They did it against Western when they weren't shooting very well, and they really did it against Clemson, you know, they didn't win the game.
I think Gonzaga is probably going to try to take a page out of Clemson's book and maybe try to be physical with Kentucky if they have the guys to do that.
Gonzaga also shoots a lot of three-point shots, so I think it's going down to whose shots are going down from behind the arc.
Yeah, Gonzaga, talk about being physical, bullied us last year in Ruff.
Now, granted, it was a completely, not one player is the same, but they bullied us in Ruff last year.
I mean, it was, that was probably Kentucky's outside of Oakland, worst,
performance of the year last year. And then we kind of got run against them two years ago up here.
We haven't played well against them yet in this series. Yeah, it's going to be interesting because
obviously you're going to have to see Mark Pope make some changes. And maybe he saw some things
and worked some things out in that Clemson game. Some guys we talked about maybe playing more minutes
than we expected. And it'll be interesting to see the changes he makes against Gonzaga to
combat, you know, getting beaten and rebounds, not being able to score efficiently. So it's going to be
good to see the changes. Lamont Butler, according to Pope, his ankle injury is, quote, a little bit
of a problem. He said he didn't have an update on whether he would play. You know, we always usually
have a conversation about who's the guy Kentucky can't lose. I'm kind of under the opinion after
watching this, it's Lamont Butler. I mean, I don't think they can lose him. If he doesn't play Saturday,
Can we win?
You can.
I mean, we know with how Kentucky plays.
They get hot and just start throwing them in.
They can beat anybody.
But I would think, Zach, it would be favored.
We clearly already seeing the effects of losing the ankle coach, too.
Yeah, because that matters.
That's a good point.
If we had the ankle guy, Shannon, none of this would be happening.
I feel like by this time last year, we already had at least a dozen turned ankles.
They came back.
They came back within minutes.
He's going to read now in Houston.
So who's our ankle guy this year?
We went.
He didn't get a good one.
There was only.
Hubby is our ankle guy.
That's right.
We don't need an ankle guy.
We'll be fine.
But yeah, to your point, without Lamont Butler, I don't feel good about their chances.
He's the guy that really put the team on his back against Clemson, even though they didn't win.
He was the guy that made it close.
I thought we were okay there at Point Guard with Kerr as the backup.
We saw he just didn't play well against Clipson.
I still think he's got some better basketball on him.
I think that was a one.
No, I don't think he's always going to be as bad as he was.
But if you told me, for instance, Lamont Butler was out for the year,
I would say we've got to find a way to turn Robinson or O way into a point guard.
Like, I don't think you could go into the season with courage your starting point guard
and expect to make a real run.
Just because he's too inconsistent and maybe most important, he just can't guard anybody.
I mean, he's not a good defender.
Williams would put his hand up to be able to, you know, he could dribble a little bit more.
I'm sure he'd be happy to go.
I don't want Williams really.
I want him dribbling less if possible.
All right, let's go.
Or Travis Perry moving forward.
Well, Mark Pope said you will see more Travis Perry if he doesn't play.
I mean, that's throwing him into the fire against Gonzaga on the road.
But there might be a chance that if Butler's out, you see some Travis Perry tomorrow.
Well, when Kerr was out in the preseason, Travis was the backup point guard and played a lot in some of the exhibition games.
All right, let's do our state football championships.
I'm going to go in order of the games.
Okay.
All right.
So it starts at noon today on these radio stations.
It will start right after we go off the air.
Raceland versus Sayer, private, public, rich, you know, mountain, all going at each other.
Raceland and Sayer.
Raceland was a lot of people be at the bar, but Sayer has a group of people we know really well.
This is like the two facets of KSR personality, Raceland or Sayer.
I think the Chad Pennington, his program that he has put on his back and turned into something special,
they finish the undefeated season and get the trophy.
Drew chooses rich.
This is a tough one for me.
I wear my Raceland Rams Gillingen hat, you know, like every day during the summer.
But Josiah played seven-on-seven with a lot of these kids on Sarah.
I know them well.
I'm going with Sarah also.
Who's the rich team again?
Sarah.
Yeah, they pay for all their players.
I'm going Sarah.
That's not nice.
What are you got?
Coming from a published high school myself where we, you know, we struggle to make it by each day.
I'm going to go with Raceland.
I'm going Raceland.
First of all, Raceland, how should you abandon them, Ryan?
They've given you T-shirts.
They've given you hats.
They've come to the bar.
How can you in this time of need?
How can you in this title?
How can you throw them away?
Because they're not coming to the restaurant this year.
I think the Sarah people will keep coming back.
That's what I'm going with Sarah.
There's been more money there.
It's been more money there.
Yeah, I'm going to take Raceland.
I think maybe the best game of the whole thing is the second game today.
Beachwood and Owensboro Catholic.
This should be a battle.
Max, I'll let you go first.
This is the division your team played in.
You lost to Beachwood in the semifinals.
who you got yeah it hurts that we're not there uh this one kind of brings a tear to my
we should be there right now instead of sitting here in salt lake but that's okay i think beachwood's
really really good me both these teams are good i think beachwood's so good they got four dudes
they can fly so i'm on beachwood yeah if beachwood's good enough to beat max how can you
not say they're going to be to winsboro catholic i got beachwood i've been saying i
i've been saying i're gonna roncatholic may have the best player in the state though brady
outwell their quarterback may be the best player in the state so i'm going onsbril catholic
that radio show, they're going to break the curse of going Owen 5 in Lexington at KS Bar this year.
I'm disappointed because Owensboro Catholic started to think KSR's bad vibes, and that's not true.
But they still, when they play, that's the best crowd we get at KSbar for a high school team.
So I got to go with Oldsboro Catholic Radio all bathees together.
Maybe they did, yes. Franklin County and Paducah Tilman.
Who you got?
Paducah Tilman.
Franklin County Sneaky Good.
I think they're undefeated.
I mean, they are really good.
Paduca Tilman got a lot of kids to transfer from Chattanooga.
You throw that in every time.
You have to throw in a shot at them about Chattanooga.
But one of their top kids has committed to the U.K.
I'm going to go Paduca Tilman.
There's a Chattanooga Paducahpillar pipeline to UK.
Paducah Tilman.
That Paducahirtilman might have spent more money in the portal than Kentucky this year.
So Paducah Tulman.
I'm going to take Tillman.
Union County, never been to the state finals ever before playing the Fighting Earl Joneses of Christian Academy of Louisville.
Who you got?
Christian Academy of Louisville got beaten by the better Christian Academy of Lexington this year.
So I don't know.
I'll take Union County in a big upset.
Give me Union County as well.
Man, Union County, they're a wrestling school.
They're not a football school.
I'm going Cal and Earl Jones.
Boo.
I'm going to have Travis Perry beating Gonzaga and Union County winning a title.
It's going to be great for my place.
How can you not love a school that's never been there?
It used to be awful at football, built themselves into a program.
I've picked against Earl Jones every round, and he writes me angry.
Girl, I'm picking against you again.
Union County takes the victory.
Trinity against Ryle.
I don't know what Ryle.
Is Ryle Public?
Yeah.
Okay, Trinity Ryle.
Going with Ryle.
I'm going with Trinity.
Yeah, give me the Louisville School.
Trinity.
Ryle's really good.
I'll take Ryle.
I wouldn't pick Trinity for anything.
I'm taking Ryle.
Well, you're going to lose.
If you go back in history, there's a common theme.
If there's a Louisville fan that's an awful, obnoxious person to me,
he went to Trinity, almost universally.
There's a lot of good people at Trinity.
I'm just saying y'all produce the ones that are the nastiest.
So I'll take Rob.
Cooper and Bowling Green.
Bowling Green for me.
Give me Bowling Green.
Two good quarterbacks, but Cooper's got a really good quarterback.
I go Cooper.
I'm going Bowling Green.
I'm going Cooper.
I think that quarterback's great, right?
Yeah.
His name is Cooper.
Cooper.
Hanging with Mr. Cooper.
So give me Cooper gets right.
I may end up getting every one of those games wrong, but that's okay.
Who's up next?
Mike.
Mike, go ahead, Mike.
All the games, by the way, will be on the big screen at KS Bar.
We cannot get them to work on any other television.
So if you come to watch the games, make sure you can't.
Listen, we do what we can.
We're not there.
I'm doing the best I can.
But they are, we'll be on the big screen at KS Bar for every game except when Kentucky plays Gonzaga Saturday night.
What's next?
Mike, you with us?
Oh, hey, guys.
Yeah, I'm here.
Yeah, you kind of stole my thunder with the Travis Perry.
thing. I've been having a hard time being convinced that Kirkreece is that much better than
Travis Perry. But anyway, Matt, as far as the SEC goes in basketball, it looks to me that the
SEC has just decided that they're just going to be good at everything. That's true.
I think they're about, yeah, they're by far the best basketball conference this year.
I don't think that's going to be an outlier. I think most of the years they're going to be.
a good conference.
And it's the best coaching I've seen probably ever top to bottom on these teams.
Totally agree.
They got the money to pay guys.
Anyway, that's all I wanted to say.
Appreciate the call.
I think you hit it.
The SEC has made the decision.
I can tell you there was an initiative by the conference commissioners,
or excuse by the conference ADs.
They said, we're going to take the four major sports,
which the way they look at it in college athletics is basketball.
football, women's basketball, and baseball.
And they said, we're going to make the SEC the best in all four sports.
And I think they've done it.
They've always been the best in football.
They've always been the best in baseball.
They have in recent years become the best in women's basketball.
The only thing left was men's basketball, and I think they're there.
I mean, you could make a strong argument that the SEC this year is the best it's ever been in basketball.
I don't say that.
there are 11 teams ranked right now 11 and one of them isn't even the school john caliperi coaches
right so throw them in there that's 12 you got 12 and then you got a team like vandy who's not
ranked and what 8 1 7 8 1 7 8 1 i mean i'm not sure any but south carolina is probably the only
team in the conference it's not very good and even they beat the acc team they were playing
Only one team in the conference has three losses.
Everybody else is...
At South Carolina?
Yeah, one or two.
I think this is, Ryan, the best it's ever been.
This year is a gauntlet.
I think every time you win a game on the road, you should throw a party.
Because I think this is going to be the hardest it has ever been in the SEC.
I think the SEC is going to get 11, maybe 12 teams in the tournament.
This is by far the best it's been from top to bottom, I think, since I've been around.
And there's going to be probably the winning team may have four losses in the conference.
The first place team have three or four losses.
This is, the SEC has decided.
We're going to be the best at everything.
Yep.
And they've done it.
We played a game in the car yesterday,
just messing around about where you'd want to go
if you were a five-star quarterback, whatever.
And we all said, you know,
if we were the best point guard in the world,
outside of Stanford, we're going to the SEC.
Outside of Stanford, that's exactly what you would do.
We'll take a break.
Be right back here in Salt Lake City.
This is KSR.

You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help!

Help!
Somebody!
Please!
But there's so much more to me than me.
I'm an actor.
I'm a comedian, and recently, I've become quite the helper myself.

Hey, cream a chicken suit.

Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva,
an actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through life one hot flash and hormonal crying
jag at a time.
You ladies know what I mean.
I'll bet you a paramedipausal chin here you do.
So let's talk about it.
Join me on my new podcast.
How Hard Can It Be with the Adamani Arriva, where I call on my Gen X squads from Ohio to Hollywood
as we navigate midlife's most fantastic BS.
All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own.
I was like, what the hell is that?
I was married when I had it.
so I didn't even consider how empty that nest was going to be.
Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive.
Wait, what sex?
Dating at 45. How high can it be getting naked at 50 with the new guy?
That one's kind of hard now.
Well, that's lighting.
They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try.
So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter,
and dive into it unfiltered and unbothered and ask,
how hard can it be?
I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud in public.
Listen to how hard can it be with Diana Maria Riva,

available on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano,
and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs
without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows.
Without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective
on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He run up the court, licking his fingers
why he got the ball, like,
after you go through a training camp with that I?
Ed, you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Video.
859-2802287.
The text machine is 772-774-525.
One person writes Matt, if he's on the phone, so much getting stuff done.
What about Max for GM of UK football?
If all we needed was Australians, I'd pick you.
Yeah, unfortunately, we need a few more.
I was going to nominate my good friend Miles Butler.
Masters in accounting, finance, you know, former player.
Would be good.
By the way, what the thing I want to say, well, because let me read this comment first.
The woman says, Matt, it looks like you might have been right.
You were the first person I heard say that the person who shot the health care CEO might have had a family member not have coverage.
Some are suggesting that's correct now.
To me, that was the only reason I could think of you would shoot.
the CEO of a health care company.
But I will say this.
I'm extremely, extremely disappointed in people that I otherwise think normally would agree with
on this idea that, like, there are a lot of people, Shannon, celebrating this dude getting killed.
That's crazy.
It's unbelievable to me.
No.
Like, have we just become so deranged about our beliefs that we're, like, going to root on?
Listen, the American healthcare industry has got a zillion problems.
The way, I mean, I could go off on American health care system for hours.
But none of that justifies killing a man in the street for walking in a building and being like, well, I don't like the U.S. health care system, so I'm going to start assassinating people.
That, I mean, people who claim to be, have good hearts and all that saying, I can't believe the people I see saying that.
I've seen a lot of people online saying the same stuff.
I have two celebrating this man being murdered.
And I don't know this guy.
I don't know what his morals were.
But either way, I don't want to ever celebrate somebody just getting shot down on the street here in our country.
If you, I'm going to be very careful I say this because I don't want to like, you know, there are things that are happening by that you know which side I generally tend to lean on.
There are teams that happening on the other side that very much disappoint me.
But when we then become doing the same stuff, then what in the world's the point?
Like, if this whole world is just going to be...
I don't like you.
I don't like you.
I don't like you.
So I'm going to kill you.
Like, we're just going to descend into madness.
The idea that you would celebrate a dude walking down the street and getting murdered to me, Ryan, is awful.
I don't care what his job is.
It's very sad to know that that's happening.
You know, violence is never the answer.
This dude was somebody's husband, somebody's dad, somebody's grandpa.
probably, you know. There's still, it's
people putting the other health care
CEOs putting their pictures up and where
they live like that. That's terrible.
Do I, health care CEOs
make too much money? Heck yeah,
they do. Do I think people get
like, you know, pay for insurance and get
screwed? Yes, you don't go shooting
people in the streets. Like, come on.
Yeah, I mean, just cold-blooded murder
right in the middle of New York City and
I'm with everyone here. The reaction's
been a little surprised. I've been amazed.
And otherwise,
seemingly normal people.
Like you're saying, well, I'm not going to mourn for him.
I'm going to mourn for the people who, like, you don't,
I feel like I'm in a Matrix world where people are celebrating murder on the streets.
It's shocking.
But a further point of that, though, if you walked around BYU's campus,
with some of the smiles that you see, it would be impossible to find a serial killer.
They've just all got serial killer smiles.
They all drink milk.
I saw them all.
They were all drinking milk.
All of them have just had this fake, weird smile.
where it's like you've definitely killed someone, you've killed someone, you've killed 10 people.
I don't know that we should say that about the entire game.
They were very nice to us.
I'm wearing a BY shoe shirt.
They were very nice.
Mario got invited to the winter ball.
Mario was walking around just getting invited to events.
I wonder if they thought he was a heathen or something.
Like they just kept inviting him to church prayer groups and all this.
And we did ask some serious questions.
Like the chick-fil-a, do they have Coca-Cola Pepsi?
They did.
They did.
Because I didn't know, yeah, I didn't know if Mormons could drink caffeine,
but apparently they can because they had it in the, in the Coke,
in the McDonald's and the Chick-fil-A.
The Diet Coke's like a gray area there, I think.
Diet Coke is a gray area?
Is it?
Well, they solve it.
So, well, I just did on-field reported.
It's the hot stuff, right?
Like brewed tea and brewed coffee.
Oh, wait a minute, you can drink cold caffeine but not hot caffeine.
Wow.
Interesting.
Interesting.
I didn't realize God cared with it was hot or cold.
But don't, hey, don't nuke it.
God will, God's watcher.
To not put it in the microwave, Max.
Don't do it.
Who's next?
Blandon.
Blandon. What's up, Blandon?
Hey, Matt.
Hello.
Happy safe travels to you guys.
And I got two really quick things.
Number one, one of you guys posted on social media, the big Y out there, BYU.
That was beautiful.
I think, you guys, Matt, should take that down.
and put a picture up thin and with the belt draped over his shoulder.
Oh, that's a great idea.
And then number two.
That was really beautiful, by the way.
The BYU up against the mountain right there.
I thought that was very, very cool.
But go ahead.
Well, I think it would look better with a picture of the only real world champion.
And number two, I wanted to ask Max if he thought Linda Kalsalsowski on Crocodile Dundee was hot or not, hot or not.
One of the things you don't know, and I appreciate the call, sir, you hate being asked
about Crocodile Dundee about more than anything.
Is that right?
That and Kangaroo Jack.
But you brought up Crocodile Dundee when we were talking about the hats.
Yeah.
Well, I knew that that's the only movie people associated in Australia, so it's the only way
can get your point across.
You've never really, never really liked that.
I want to give you just an example of sort of parts of this drive.
That drive from Vale to like, is it Green River, Colorado where we got off the interstate?
I think so.
That drive.
got to be one of the most beautiful drives in America.
Yep, I agree.
I mean, it is up there.
That drive from Vale to Green River
where you're going through the Rocky Mountains
and the mountains and the cliffs are around you is beautiful.
But we had a little time,
so I was looking, trying to figure out something we could see.
And I saw that somewhere through there
were the remnants of the 1970 Wichita State Football Team Crash.
Everybody knows the Marshall Team Crash,
but a lot of people don't know
that the Wichita State football team crash.
like 51 people, only 10 people survived, right?
The part of where the crash is is in an area that is so hard to get to
that they have basically left most of the remnants there.
Of the plane?
Like the pieces of the plane, the things that were on the plane,
and so you can go to it.
It's like an hour and a half hike.
I didn't really think this group was up for it, so we didn't do it.
I could have done it.
But apparently, it's one of the only...
maybe the only scene in the United States where a plane has crashed and it's kind of been left like it was.
So pieces of the plane are still all over the place.
And I was like, it is so odd in our society to think there are places in this country that are so hard to get to.
Only a handful of people have ever in the history been there.
And where that plane crash is one of them.
You know, we went through some really remote areas where it was hundreds and hundreds.
hundreds of miles of nothing but land.
And then we went hundreds and hundreds of miles of nothing but mountains.
But think about they just left the stuff there.
They were like it would be too hard to get all of this stuff out there.
They just left it.
I don't know what it was about that story,
but that was really crazy to me thinking about as we were driving through.
We'll take a break.
Be right back.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
859-2-2-80-2287.
One person says, Mack, I would call Max the Crock's.
Punter. What does he think about that?
Yeah, someone had made a graphic of that at some point.
Again, let's just leave the Australian jokes.
You just don't, but you just don't like it.
I just hear it all the time.
You do hear it all the time.
I've been around you a lot.
Every time you say Australian, somebody says kangaroo or a good day, mate,
and you get a little annoyed by it.
Yeah, it's not the greatest jokes of all that.
You said you had something you wanted to say,
oh, you said you got a text.
I got a text actually during the break.
It was from your beautiful mother, Karen.
She said, was just listening to the segment about the plane crash and how remnants are just left in places and never picked up.
My mom didn't say this.
Well, actually, that reminds me of Matt's place when I walked in at Thanksgiving.
I found 200 Diet Coke bottles that have just been left in places that apparently are just really hard to throw out.
So, Karen, thank you for that text.
My mom did not say that.
That is very rude on your part.
I was just saying a minute ago, there's a guy here from Preston'sburg.
And he brought his girlfriend.
And I guess she's from here in Utah.
And she's very beautiful.
And I said, Preston'sburg, Eastern Kentucky, spit in game everywhere, Ryan Lemon.
Once you get Preston'sburg out in the world, you can't stop it.
You don't.
There's something about the magic and the charm of the boys in the mountains.
That's right.
And he comes to Utah.
He's still got the Preston'sburg mustache.
Like he still, I love it.
You do that.
15th region all the way out here in Salt Lake City.
There you go.
Preston'sburg.
Pug and a person.
poke, right? Taking a poke at Prestonburg, yeah. That's exactly right. 859-2-80-22-87. Who's next?
Tori. Tori. Go Tori. Hey, good morning, fellas. How are you?
Doing good. Thanks for asking. So, Matt, I called a couple weeks ago after the Texas Longhorns
on the post-game show. I was pretty upset. I'm typically a podcast listener, and I was listening to
yesterday's show on the drive to Louisville right now. And I know I've called Stoops. I said he created a
culture of oops, like weaponized incompetence.
And I heard the story about the GA that supposedly, according to Max, the entire line
respected and liked.
And I know Stoops is a gut guy.
And it just seems like a gut check to bring that guy in and kind of keep that going
because it's hard to earn the respect of your O line.
And he at least did that.
But maybe Stoops is more of a liver guy.
And the GA just didn't fit in to Bourbonon rise much.
as Eric Wofford was.
I have to say, and I appreciate the call.
There is a, there's a trend online of a lot of people because they don't like Stoops'
coaching and don't think Stoop should be the coach for football reasons,
which I think while is a completely valid point, there is a trend now to try to destroy them
personally based on
the stuff. I think
that's a terrible trend.
I will say this and I've said it a lot.
These are human beings, okay?
Yeah, they're coaches. Yeah, they're paid a lot of money.
But like the way
people are talking about
especially Mark,
I just don't think it's fair to him.
You can totally believe
that Mark shouldn't be the coach at Kentucky.
I think that's a reasonable
opinion. I think it's a reasonable
opinion to think he should. But I
there's this trend to kind of like, let's just destroy him personally.
And I think that's a terrible trend, you know, and I, it's honestly, to me, not fair.
First of all, a lot of the stuff said is just false.
But secondly, like, what is your point?
What is your point?
You know, ultimately, he's going to be the coach at Kentucky.
and even if he were to leave, he's been the coach at Kentucky.
What are you trying to do?
So, Drew, that thing that is happening with the coaches,
do I think there were times in the past that those dudes have made mistakes?
Yes, I do.
Do I think that then just deciding, let's just ruin them,
that's the behavior that you don't want to get because this is,
you guys are, people are treating this.
This is sports.
This is not ruin people's lives.
Yeah, I know. I didn't talk about this with Max.
You just see it start to snowball.
Like I saw someone post a picture that was really old, but they tried to present it as current as if Stub.
Well, there's people posting pictures all the time that are from, you know, two years ago.
And people are like, this is what it was the night before the Louisville game.
Like that's not fair to them.
They're just trying to create a narrative to bring him even further down.
I mean, he's in enough hot water with how the football season win.
I don't feel like we have to make things up to just try to make it look worse.
99% of the time this Kentucky fan base is the best fan.
base in the world. But when they turn on you, they can also be the worst, especially if you're
the coach for, you know, football or basketball because you're under that magnifying glass.
It's not fair to them personally. It's not. I hate it when we do it to our politicians. We do it to
our actresses, our singers, man, you know, you like them or not. Is he a good coach or not? It's got
nothing to do what he does in his personal life. Yeah, I mean, we talked about it before with
the CEO. I mean, you comment all you want about his football coaching, whether you think he's good
about or whatever, but I just think, leave the personal stuff to the side and just be the better
person. Let's do some draft kings. You go to draft kings. You can bet five, win five,
$150. Let's do some college football big time game picks. All these games for the conference championships,
all of them are surprisingly really close spreads, at least a lot of the big ones. I'll go through
on the ones on Saturday. Iowa State, Arizona State. Arizona State's a point and a half favorite,
Big 12 title.
I'll go Iowa State.
I go Iowa State.
We just went through Iowa.
I feel very connected to the state of Iowa.
I'm going to Iowa State.
Let's hope if Arizona State their fans don't rush the field too early and let the game be done.
I'm going to say Iowa State as well.
Look at this.
Almost you take Arizona State.
All right.
So one for Arizona State.
Let's go Clemson, SMU, a two and a half point favorite.
We're just, are we doing the spread here?
I'll say Clemson covers that thing.
I'm going Clemson.
SMU.
SMU.
SMU.
I can't stand Clemson winning.
I can't stand Clemson either, but they're going to win.
I'm taking Clemson.
My pick of the year is Oregon over Penn State.
So give me Oregon's a three and a half point favorite.
I'll bet everything I got on Oregon.
Which means a bet Penn State.
I will not put money on James Franklin whatsoever.
Any team against Penn State.
Oregon money lines are better than that.
He never wins the big game.
This is a huge game.
Oregon.
I was about to say Oregon until you called it the lock of the century.
I'm going Penn State.
Okay.
Exactly the same as Shannon.
No, I think Oregon's not going to go through undefeated.
I think Penn State actually wins this one.
Three, four o'clock tomorrow, Georgia, Texas.
Texas is a two and a half-point favorite.
I like Georgia.
By the way, I'm doing a Clemson, Oregon, Georgia parley.
Who do you like?
I'll take Texas.
I can't bet against Georgia ever.
I've got to go Georgia.
SEC is so even.
It's so hot.
I mean, you can't beat a team twice to me, so Texas wins.
All right, there you go.
That's your Draft King's picks.
Who's next job?
Philip.
Who cares?
Go ahead.
No, I'm just kidding.
Western.
Yeah, Western plays tonight.
Go ahead.
I was kidding.
I was kidding.
I was kidding.
Who are?
If you guys leave Salt Lake, are you going across the lake,
or are you going to come up through southern Idaho here?
Yeah, we're coming up.
So that's a good question.
We were going to stop in Boise tonight,
but there was a group vote.
We're now going to a place called La Grande, Oregon.
Oregon.
It's big.
We're staying in La Grande, Oregon.
I don't know where that is.
I don't know one thing there.
Never heard of it.
If any of you know anything about La Grande, Oregon, let me tell us.
But to get to Seattle and time for the pregame feels like that's what we have to do.
So, no, we're going north across to La Grande Oregon, which means the big.
LaGrain, Oregon.
LaGrain?
I live in southern Idaho.
Yeah.
Okay, never mind.
So wait a minute.
You all pronounce Grande grained?
LaGrand.
Yeah, Legrine.
So they just decide to just take the E and not.
pronounce it that's a very organ thing to do yeah well we're Ksbar and grill with a
knee on our grill so it's true we're not grill a shut up go ahead go ahead sir
yeah there's a casino there I think that's about the only thing all right
right there the best Western what else do you need and now I know what we're
doing fair enough and there's a lot of construction between like Burr
and Jerome in Idaho and the Idaho State Police don't play games.
So Max keep an eye out.
We don't have to worry about that.
I'll try to keep it like 84 and below.
I'll try to keep it 84 and below.
All right.
Thank you for the advice, sir.
Yeah, thanks.
You'll see you later.
Appreciate it.
I appreciate the call.
Today is an exciting day for me, though, I will say.
When we cross the state line in Oregon, I will have been to 50 states today.
So I'm very excited.
We're going to pull over.
when we cross the state line, I'm going to take a picture.
This will be my 50th state.
The last state that I've ever
never been to,
we will cross it in today and get
to Oregon, and I will have been to all
50 states. I'm very excited about that.
We've got to celebrate. How many people have been
to all 50 states? Any of you all
been to all 50 states? You have?
Nobody. Anyone?
I don't know how many people in the country have done it, but
I will make that that will happen for me
today. Do you get like a certificate from the
Supreme Court? The Supreme Court?
You think the Supreme Court?
Chief Justice Roberts sends out, congrats.
It is here by the creed.
You've been to all 50 states.
You should get some sort of award.
You should.
I agree.
Why don't they give you one?
I don't know.
I think you need to get out and touch the ground.
Say you were, you know, set foot in Oregon.
And I think tonight at the casino, I think we're partying tonight.
This is a big party.
Reason to party.
I wish they had number 50 on the roulette table.
We could all put it down.
Yeah.
That's true.
If there's something 50, I'll do it.
Dinner's on that tonight.
Dinner spent on me the whole trip.
Has it been off in the state, I think dinner should be on that.
Thank you.
That's a good way.

Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive.
Wait, what sex?
Dating at 45.

Apparently, their clothing optional hot springs in Idaho on the way.
I'm in.
I'm in.
Should have brought our witch soap.
Oh, I need to hear.
Yeah, we take our soap.
If anybody sends which one, that would be a good final stop on the way there.
I think a good way to just put a bow on it.
Put a bow on it.
All the jump in there and naked.
Yeah.
Why not?
You can have your own hot spring.
Yeah, you need your cowboy hats.
Clothing optional hot spring and I don't just let us know which one.
One person writes, Matt, do you count flying through a city as having been in a state?
No.
No.
You have to have actually spent, I go even further.
You have to have spent some amount of time walking.
the city. I'm not going to say you have to spend the night, but you have to have been in the city,
kind of moved around, and then that's 50. And I would say I've been to 45 twice, but I haven't,
I've only been to Alaska twice. I've only been to why once. There may be one, maybe Montana
once, but I'm in, I'm in, and then Oregon will be once. But you have to, in my opinion,
have to have to have Shannon walked around and been there for it to count. Well, we're going to do
it tonight and best western you ready for it i've already booked it for us oh did you no
there's not a whole lot of places to stay in legris i mean we might need some company yeah we might
this casino will have rooms that's right uh 859 280 2287 who's up next ricky oh rickie
before we go real quick rickie let me say real quick tomorrow okay tomorrow for the pregame show
uh we have we have found a place for it and since i can't find it right now you go ahead and
talk, Ricky, and then I'll have it after the call.
As first time, caller.
Who are?
And I, there's a couple of days I'd like to say, first.
I want to keep it real for Kentucky basketball.
I've been taking fancy that I need high to a grasshopper.
I take the SEC, I think we finished fourth or fifth.
I think first and second is a tie with Auburn and Tennessee.
Alabama 3rd, Lutz and Florida, fourth and fifth, six and 16, pick your team.
And I got a question for you, Matt, which team do you think can go 8 and 12 or 9-11 in the SEC and win and get into the big dance?
Well, you play 18 games.
Yes, you could go 8 and 10 in the SEC and make the tournament, depending on who you beat and who beat you and what you did in the non-conference.
This is a year, Ryan, where you could have a losing record in the SEC and still make the NCAA tournament, yes.
It doesn't happen very often, but I think this year the SEC is so strong it could happen.
This is the one year.
Now, you'd have to get some wins.
against the good teams in order to do it, but Drew, I certainly think it's plausible.
I agree, and I'm looking forward to, you know, the SEC tournament matters again, had mattered
in a while of all the years to have the teams this year.
This would be the tournament is going to be awesome.
If you want to go to an SEC tournament, this is going to be the year.
They're going to be teams playing on Wednesday.
Multiple teams that are really good.
First of all, eight teams play on Wednesday this year.
Yeah.
Not just four.
There'll be 18th, ninth to 16th.
There will be multiple teams.
Shannon in the NCAA tournament playing on Wednesday of the SEC tournament.
This conference is just going to beat up on each other. I mean, that's going to be, like
you said, a lot of teams that are really good that have a lot of losses in the
conference. That's just the way it's going to be. And Cowboy Hat will be on, right?
Cowboy Hat all the whole time. I'll sleep in. Look out. Nashville's going to get a lot
of Cowboy Hat. I'm going to have my shoes by then. It's going to be ready to go.
All right. Buckleys is the name of the place. So for those of you in Seattle, Buckleys,
which is apparently two blocks from the arena.
Buckley's on First Avenue will be where we are doing the pregame show tomorrow.
It will start, for those of you listening, at 7.30 Eastern, but that will be 4.30 in Seattle.
And we are going to be in the upstairs area.
So there's an upstairs and the downstairs.
We will be upstairs at Buckley's in Seattle for the pregame show.
So come on by, and we might even be there for the postgame depending on the setup and all that.
All right, who's next?
Skyler, go ahead.
Skylar Dean Davis, shout out to Cole Bramer.
Hey, hey guys, he usually calling to the postgame show.
I had a friend bring up something.
The kind of the theme of your second hour has been the dehumanization
that we often see on display and culture,
and we have seen with the coaching staff.
I had a friend bring up a good point about what Stoops has walked through
in the past several years that might maybe ease some of the fan base.
I mean, he's lost John Schlarman.
He's dealt with relational turmoil, interpersonally, and he's lost his mom.
And I just wonder what the role of, totally wonder what the role is.
That's posed, what you just said, and I'm glad you said that, in four years, he's lost one of his best friends in Schlarman.
He's gotten a divorce.
His kids are on the other side of the country, and he just lost his mother.
That's tough.
That's a tough thing.
Now, that's not an excuse.
That doesn't mean you can't criticize the coaching,
but it also means I would say give the dude a break personally.
Just give him a break.
That's all I'm saying.
I think that the criticize every,
one of the things that happened with Cal is he took professional criticisms personally.
I thought there was no reason to do that.
But I was always very careful to never criticize him as a person.
I would always say he's a good guy.
And I generally think he is a good guy.
I would say to you, when it comes to Stoops, make all the criticisms professionally you want.
Make all the criticisms about culture and all that.
It's all valid.
And if you think you want him replace, also valid.
But he lost his mother.
He had a divorce.
I know the man misses his kids.
He lost a friend.
He's had a lot of stuff happen to him back to back in a few years.
Just give the dude a break personally.
I think that's not too much to ask.
And in reality, those things are more important than a football game anyway.
You know, we lose our mother.
It devastates you for a while.
Yeah, it is.
So, I mean, Max, you know him better than any of us.
I mean, the criticism would be water off the ducks back to him.
I mean, he kind of puts on a brave face, but I agree.
I mean, I don't know why you would only get personal with people.
It's sports.
I mean.
Yeah, it's a game.
It's SEC football.
Clayton and Kroom was founded on a simple idea, Shannon.
All-Lether Good.
should last a lifetime. They make everything from bags. You like bags, don't you?
Yeah. You like belts, don't you, Ryan? I love belts. You like wallets. I've got a wallet right now. And you
like much more, don't you, Max? I like much, much, much more. All the best they're doing right in Kentucky.

Clayton and Crum for our guys.
Yeah.
Quickly, favorite memory of our week so far.
Pizza Ranch.
Pizza Ranch, the very first place, okay?
No, I really enjoyed Vale.
More than one should, actually.
I'm still feeling it.
Veil, to me, is the highlight.
Just walking the streets of Vale that night was really cool.
I'd have to agree.
That's the best trip so far.
Best part of the trip so far is that night in Vell.
Last night I went for a little walk around.
I actually really enjoyed the piece of quiet,
watching people I skate, the Christmas lights around here.
It was beautiful.
I'm going to say the crowd that came to watch the game,
in Fort Collins, where we just had 45 people show up on Tuesday.
And then look at this in Salt Lake, this great crowd here today.
It's been awesome.
Thank you all very much.
You will hear from us next.
7.30 Eastern in Seattle, 430.
Plan to go watch the game at KS Bar Saturday night.
We'll see you later.
This has been Kentucky Sports Radio.
Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends, me and hilarious guests from Bob
Odin Kirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and
head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does
your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to
humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get
your podcasts. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind,
and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
That's where Sports Slice comes in.
I'm Timbo.
In every episode, we're cutting through the noise,
breaking down the biggest moments in sports
and giving you the real story behind the headline.
And we're going straight to the source,
the athletes themselves,
their locker room stories,
their reactions in the moment,
and the stuff nobody gets to hear.

Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Quarterback on office blue 42.
Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?

We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season.

If we didn't talk ever again, I was crying.
You just understood.
That's how personal it got.
Wow.
Then after that game 7, Marquis keep coming to you.
He's like, you know, I love you, dog.
You know, it's all love.

There are times when the mind becomes a difficult place to live.
This is David Eagleman with the Inner Cosmos podcast,
and for Mental Health Awareness Month,
we'll talk with singer-songwriter Jewel about anxiety.
I started living in my car, and then my car got stolen.
I was having panic attacks.
I was agoraphobic.
