Now here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio.
859-2-80-2287 text machine 7-7-2-7-7-4 somebody wrote me and said this is the first time
board in Louisville Ryan has been closed since 9-11 wow is that amazing it is amazing I mean
that's I mean it's still it's still coming down like right now Shannon I guess you can't
see it right yeah in that building with no no windows no anything I think the
snow's going to stop, but then the temperature just drops the next couple days.
Well, it's still snowing right now.
Should I just take up permanent residence at 4th Street Live?
You may have to stay another night, yeah.
I mean, I, all right, so now I'm worried about the restaurant thing,
because if Ford is closed, and no one is writing me saying they know of a restaurant open-shed.
Yeah.
So do you think that woman has more vegetables?
I was going to ask you.
You know, usually when you make vegetable soup, you make a huge pot,
Maybe there's some leftovers you can warm up.
I think she gave me the excess the first time.
So I don't really know exactly what I'm going to do.
But, you know, that's all right.
Quickly is another guy that should have been on my shooter list.
Yes, yeah.
Well, there's been some great ones over the years,
but this guy may top every single one of them.
Got a chance.
All right, so a couple things here.
Let's start with on the postgame show,
did you hear Ryan Hal McCoy call in?
I heard every second of it.
I can't wait to talk to you about this.
All right.
So, you know, I saw Shannon at OVW Saturday and I told him about it.
It's such a me thing to have that.
It is.
Yep.
Yep.
Yep.
First of all, I blame Bob and James Town.
No, no, no.
There's no blaming Bob.
It's Bob and James Town.
No, it's not.
Because normally, like, it was the fact that he said it that made me give that reaction.
Bob's waiting on the line if you want to, like, hash it out with him right now.
All right.
Go ahead and put Bob on, but Bob don't start talking.
yet. Just go ahead and put Bob on.
So Bob comes on and he says there's all kinds of celebrities at the game.
And I ask him what celebrities?
And he says, Richie Farmer, who Shannon's at every game?
Right.
Okay.
He's still a celebrity.
He is, but he's at every game.
And then he says Hal McCoy.
Now, freely admit, I didn't know who how McCoy was.
And so I said who's Hal McCoy and Shannon, he goes he's a writer for the Dayton newspaper.
Yeah.
doesn't scream celebrity exactly and it was the second person bob said was how mccore
so i'm like how mccoy and you know what i mean those of you haven't heard it you know what i do
in that circumstance like i'm like how but coy and then the fact it was bob and jamesdown i was
like bob what are you talking about berber blah blah fast forward to the show we learned that he
has covered the reds for 50 some years and then i read on wikipedia that he had a stroke in like
2004 went blind and kept covering the team.
Now, you know me, Ryan, at that point, I think that's an awesome story.
That's a great story in itself.
That's a great story in and of itself.
So I was like, okay, that's a great story.
So even though I don't know that he's the second biggest celebrity, that's still a great
story.
So I'm like, that's cool.
And then 10 minutes later, Billy goes, how McCoy is on the fuck.
You know, are you kidding me?
Like, you're kidding me.
And apparently he was sitting in the car listening during the conversation.
Oops.
Because his friend took it.
Now, with that said, it's set up one of the cooler moments we've had on this show in a long time.
Yep.
Get to talk to the guy.
Shannon, he created the term big red machine.
How about that?
I never knew where that came from.
I had no idea.
What a cool thing.
He's in the baseball.
He's in the Hall of Fame.
Like he's in the Hall of Fame.
He still covers the team.
55 years covering the team.
All right, that's awesome.
So then I get his phone number.
I'm going to try to meet him at a game this year at a Reds game.
So it ends up being very cool.
But of course, stupid me sticks my foot in my mouth going,
Hal McCoy and how McCoy is listening to the show.
So I am going to apologize to Hal McQuay,
although I think Hal and I are good because we had a good conversation.
But I was mostly mad at Bob for just doing it.
No, no, no, no, no, not Bob's fault.
So Bob is on the phone.
So Bob, you, I want to blame you.
I mean, I don't know that there's a way to blame you,
but I do feel like it's your fault, Bob, that that happened.
Matt, I know all kinds of people.
Anyway.
See, here we go, Shannon.
This is what gets me.
He comes in.
I know all kinds of people.
He knows how.
Anyway, you remember that Twilight Zone?
He can't even stay on top of, Shannon.
You know what I mean?
Like, I'm giving him a chance to have like, like, something cool happened that he set up.
And, Shannon, he's talking about the Twilight Zone.
Go ahead, Bob.
Listen, we're right in the middle of a winter storm.
And this is what you need, Matt, MREs.
Have you ever had one meal ready to eat?
Army vehicles or Army, Army meals in my house.
Isn't that what?
that is? Oh, they're delicious.
They are, yeah, meals
ready to eat. They are delicious.
They're what you need. Anyway,
remember Sally Denton's
book, Bluegrass Conspiracy?
I mean, yes.
Okay, well, all that 40 years later, now,
Ben Bradley, one of the characters in that book,
his niece, has written
a book called... So see, this is
what I'm saying.
I appreciate to call, Mom. This is what
I'm saying. Like, this is
why the Hal McCoy thing happens.
You know, we just beat Florida.
I bring him on to talk about
Hal McCoy, and he's talking
about MREs
and Sally Bitt. You know what I mean, Shannon?
Like, you see, this is why that happened.
Bob just has a way of just getting you
riled up, and I think that's why you took it out on Hal McCoy.
I think that's what happened.
I didn't take it out of Hal McCoy.
I just didn't know who Hal McCoy was.
But he did create.
So I do thank Bob for that.
Ryan, he did create a cool moment on the show.
I was listening, and I now know what you feel like when I say something that I don't know who the Supreme Court justice is or whatever, and you're a little embarrassed.
I thought, I'm hanging my head.
But when you say you don't know who John Roberts is, he's not listening at that moment, shit.
He might be.
You never know who's listening.
That's what was so cool about it that when all this thing about Hal McCoy, next thing you know, he's on the line.
because Hal McCoy's a big deal.
And then he was on the show.
And then that led to a segment that I think was, like you said,
one of the best segments you've had on the post games during a long time.
And I didn't know who he was.
That's my fault.
But I'm a recent Reds fan.
I mean, I was a Braves fan for many, many years.
I didn't watch the Reds or listen to him.
So that's how I didn't know who he was.
All right, let's talk about Calaparian for just a second.
And the guy who doesn't like it, sorry.
Loses to Tennessee by, was the final score?
Was it 83 points?
Is that how much they lost by Shannon?
Something like that.
35 points, maybe something.
He does the post-game press conference.
And, of course, in classic Cal style, I mean, you all, it was the greatest hits.
You could have listened.
You could have heard of all.
You've heard everything he's ever said.
But he then said his biggest regret was he didn't do the shoot around because it was noon their time.
And he didn't think that was, he let, and he said he regretted.
So everyone around the country is like, what?
You didn't have a shooter.
around on the road against the number one team in America, like maybe, Shannon, you should do that.
You would think so, especially on the road.
On the road, maybe.
Then someone uncovers he did the same thing two years ago against Tennessee.
Yep.
The exact same thing.
And he gave the exact same post-game remarks saying, I don't know why I didn't have a
shoot-around.
It was two years ago.
Does anybody remember what that game was?
That was the I've got to go home and see my dog's game.
It was the SEC tournament in Tampa.
That was the I got to go home and see my dogs game.
He's checked out at that point.
Is he already checked out at Arkansas, though?
That's my question.
He's only 14 games in the season.
Is he already done?
Like, he was wearing a tablecloth as a jacket.
Like, Ryan, what did you think of that?
Is he, I mean, is he just already, is it over?
It's embarrassing.
It's coaching malpractice that you don't prepare your team to go on the road
and play the number one team in the country on their home floor.
That's just coaching malpractice.
That's just not doing your job.
And it was something about the back-to-back of us playing
and then them switching over to that.
And then, see, Tennessee just run them off the,
You had Mark Pope who scheduled practice early in the morning to get ready for that game
and shows the detail that he goes into versus Cal.
He changed practice.
Mark Pope on Thursday, or excuse me, on Wednesday and Thursday,
changed the time of practice so their bodies would be use to the game time on Saturday.
Cal was like, we got waffles to eat, no reason to go shoot around.
That's crazy.
It's absolutely crazy.
That's where his assistant coaches need to step up and tell him.
His assistant coaches, a lot of them are probably still in bad.
And they're afraid of him.
They're afraid of him.
Of course they are.
We scored Shannon more points in both halves than they scored in the game.
That is insane.
We scored more points in the first and second half than they scored in the game.
That's crazy.
What a stat.
unbelievable.
So, I mean, I'm not trying to, look,
we're trying to pick on the guy.
But that was outside of our win against Georgia,
the biggest story in college basketball Saturday
was that were those comments.
And he did it two years ago.
Against the same team.
Didn't learn his lesson in the first time, did he?
Absolutely crazy.
All right, who's next?
Let's go to Deanna.
Deanna, how are you, Deanna?
Hi, I am good.
I've never been on the show before.
I usually express my thoughts to myself in the car.
Well, no, I want your thoughts, Deanna.
I don't know.
I talk a lot.
But anyways, I'll keep it short.
You know, I live in Ohio now.
And I get so irritated because the crowd will be, like, dead quiet.
And then they want to go off on why the guys have had a bad game.
You know, the guys are going to have a good game or they're going to have a bad game.
but I think what helps determine what type of game and what type of energy they bring is based on the crowd.
It's what happened.
The crowd was pretty odd.
So two things.
One,
the crowd was awesome Saturday.
But the other thing is this.
I think you have to be very careful when judging the crowd because, and I, listen, the crowd in years past has been a major issue.
But I don't think we can hear on TV as loud as the crowd is in person.
I just don't think we can hear it.
true.
I think the way ESPN does their microphones, because back when we'd had games on CBS,
Ryan, you could hear it.
You could hear it.
And I just don't think they, for whatever reason, I just don't think it translates as well
when it's on ESPN, the SEC Network, etc.
I do get that.
But when they go, have you ever seen them go on a run, 16 and O and everything?
and the crowd, like, just be quiet?
They weren't quiet.
They weren't quiet Saturday.
They weren't quiet.
When the fans get wild, the players get wild, the back gets false.
Yeah, but it's also, it's sort of like saying a comedian,
if the crowd's laughing, it's better for the comedian, and that's true,
but it's also the comedian's job to make the crowd laugh, right?
So it's a two-way street.
The crowd can't be expected to scream when we're getting crushed.
True. But I feel like our energy does affect theirs.
Sure.
I see it both ways. I get that. I think I'm more jealous because I never get to make it to the games anymore.
So I have to be an inspirational coach to myself and sit in the front of the TV.
You can get that crowd going. Let's get you to a game. Nice. Thanks for listening. I appreciate it.
Thank you. Have a good day.

Text machine, 772-7-7-7-4-5-254-1 person writes, Matt.
Were you upset that your guy Ron DeSantis was at the game?
Well, no, not at all.
I mean, he's the governor of Florida.
We're playing Florida.
So, I mean, if Andy Bashir were to go to the game at Florida, he should.
You know, so if he wants, so no.
I mean, I was, I was okay with it.
I said, you know, he was sitting right next to the UK bid, shame.
And I don't know if I would have put him right there.
Yeah, you got really good seats.
Yeah, well, it's what happens when you're the governor, though.
When you're the governor, yeah, you probably get pretty good seats.
So, no, I mean, we should be, you know, we should be happy when people come to games.
Now, that doesn't mean I'm a fan of his, but like he's governor of Florida, we're playing Florida.
Now, here's my problem, though, with him.
And this is now also apparently, right, a problem I now have with any.
Bashir, why do these governors have to put their name on their jacket?
Okay.
That's your problem.
That's my problem.
All right.
They all wear jackets that say their name on the front.
So Ron DeSantis's jacket, if you look at the game, it says Ron DeSantis, governor of Florida.
Why?
Why are you doing that?
All right.
So then I made fun of it on the postgame show.
And then yesterday, during his snow report, Andy Besheed,
had a pullover on that said Andy Beshear governor of Kentucky.
Why are they doing that, Shannon?
Why?
Just so everybody knows who they are, I guess.
I don't need, why?
We don't, nobody else does that.
Like, why are you putting your name on your jacket?
Reminds me of like a high school letterman jacket or something that has your name on it.
You're the governor.
Like, clearly if I'm watching TV and Andy's given the snow report and the governor seals behind him,
I don't need him to have a jacket on that says I'm the governor.
Don't you think that's like?
And these, like, Des Santos did it and then Bashir did it.
So they're both doing it.
It's kind of like their jersey, you know?
But why?
Don't you think that's a little lame?
Like, if you walk around with something that says your name on it in like a monogram,
isn't that weird?
Do you think all the governors got together?
They got their own private little club, and they got these private little jackets they can go to?
I mean, I know Trump does that, but he's his own level of weird.
But you don't see, I mean, do you, does, maybe I'm.
wrong but does Joe Biden and George Bush did they walk around with shirts that said my name like you know
their name because that's who they are I'm not sure I doubt they did but it feels like yeah I've seen a
couple of governors that and they all have that Chris Christie did it we made fun of it many years ago
then someone made me a jacket that said Matt Jones radio host you didn't wear it but I thought
Chris Christie was the only one but is this just a thing when you become governor do they just send
you or something with your name on it yep you
get in the governor's club so you get a free jacket with your name on it i don't know i don't know why
bothers me so much shenan but why like no one else in life walks around with their name on their shirt
yeah well they're not a governor i mean i'll say the same thing to craig if i see craig walk around
says craig greenberg mayor of i'll bet you he's got one i bet he does too well don't wear it
he's your friend you tell him i just don't like it i don't know what it is and he i went on to
say it does it the next day.
Exact same thing.
I lost my call screener here.
I can't.
Damn stupid thing.
What do you mean you lost?
Like I was connected to the computer and it just disconnected on me.
So you can't just put somebody on.
I can't.
I can't even see who's on.
I don't even.
Who cares?
We'll just go.
I can't.
I got to be able to click the thing.
I don't have an actual phone here anymore.
Oh.
So you have no way of clicking on the phone.
No.
No, I don't.
Huh.
Well, that's good.
Glad to see.
Hang on.
I got it now.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Joe.
Joe, go ahead, Joe.
Hey, how are you guys doing?
You know, the whole Calipari thing and not prepping for the number one team in the nation,
I'm glad you all addressed it, but I want to be happy about where Kentucky is culture-wise
because I think that's the most important thing.
You got Jackson Robinson showing up at the end of the game to get more shots up.
after they just won a huge game.
Like, that's insane.
You got Tennessee players sleeping in not showing up for a walkaround or a non-scheduled walk around.
No, you're, listen, Jackson Robinson, people who don't know, when the game was over and Pope was still doing his post-game press conference, Jackson Robinson came out and was shooting with an assistant coach on the Rup floor.
Yes, sir.
And part of the reason he was doing it, they said later, is, you know, they don't get a ton of,
chances to shoot on that floor. They practice in a different gym. So he wanted to, uh, to shoot.
But you're exactly right. This team, the prep they put in, you know, we talked about back when
they used the different balls for the champions classic. And then, you know, they scheduled their
practices around an early morning game. The level of preparation this group does, you're exactly
right, sir. I mean, it's, it's kind of what's what you should do, but it's also awesome.
100% couldn't be happy about where we're at with our coach and glad to leave whatever we left in the rear view mirror so go big blue appreciate the call a lot of people ryan stayed after the game for that post game press conference i mean he you know he uh i can always tell when they have a big crowd for the post game because we get two waves at the bar we get the immediately wave and then the after post press conference wave and they had i mean they had that entire side of the lower arena full for that you know i
started it and it became an event no rick started it oh did i don't remember rick doing that with the crowd
yeah rig did rick did it with uh with kwood right i think i'm right about that you may be right
about it yeah i think ricks i think rick started it now there may have been a period of time that
it stopped i don't know but i i am i would bet somebody can tell me on the text machine if i'm right
but i'm pretty sure rick started that but go ahead and then it became warm an event with cow
it's even more so now with Pope, man.
People coming around after the game, they want to be a part of that.
And like you said, you've got to see Jackson Robinson shooting around.
You've got to see Kobe Brayle walking around carrying a baby.
I mean, you got to love to love going on.
How did he end up with a baby?
He was just walking around Shannon with a baby.
Whose baby was that?
Somebody, and I don't know if this is true.
Somebody said they thought it was a member of his family.
No, because someone wrote online and said, that's my baby.
Okay.
They tagged me in a picture that said, that's my baby.
So what, did he did hand the baby off?
to Kobe Brady to walk around?
Let me ask you a question.
Why do people,
Shannon want to hand strangers,
people are always trying to hand them.
They're like,
this thing's been crying all day.
You take care of it for a few minutes.
Give me a break.
I like people.
I'll take pictures with anybody.
I'll take pictures with you.
You know, I mean, I have people sometimes share,
and be like, here, take a picture with my wife.
And I always think that's kind of like an odd thing to say,
but I'll do it, right?
But when people want to hand me babies,
why do they want to do that?
Yeah, you don't know the baby wants the picture.
I'm sure it doesn't even, like you think the baby knows who.
No, baby doesn't care.
But also, like, I am proven to not know how to hold a baby, right?
So, like, they just hand, does somebody just walk up to Kobe Bray in and say,
here Kobe take my baby?
I don't know.
I'd like to know how that all played out.
It's just, is that not a strange thing to do?
It is.
It is.
It's a big responsibility, too.
If you drop the baby.
If I drop it, you ain't going to be happy with me.
No.
He walked the link to the court with.
it too. It's not like he just held it for a minute and he walked around with it.
Yeah. And so clearly he was fine with it. I just, I'll take, Chen, I just want to be,
I'll take a picture with your baby, but don't hand it to it. Yeah, you hold it. I don't, I don't know.
If I, I don't want to drop it and like, I don't know where I'm supposed to go with it. So just,
like, you hold it and then I'll get in the picture. But Kobe Braya was walking around like he was
He was burping it and changing his diaper.
I wonder if he was like being that if he was the adoptee or adopted.
The godfather.
Yeah.
So it just goes to show this is a very family atmosphere of a team.
We'll take a break.
Barry Beck's KSR.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Still snowing, Shannon.
Is it?
Well, yeah.
I mean, we got, it's tapering now a little bit, but it's still coming now.
Maybe we'll never get over this.
I'm not sure.
So people are sending me pictures.
I guess the presidents do it too.
And it looks like Craig one time had it on there.
He did do it one time?
He's not doing it right now, but somebody sent me a picture with him.
So they must just give it out, right?
Like they must just, you just get in and they put your,
the presidential seal, I think I like, right?
Like, I'd like to see Bashir with like the seal of Kentucky on it.
I just don't think he needs like monogrammed.
I'm Andy Bishier.
Look at me.
Maybe that seals on the back.
I don't know.
I haven't seen the entire jacket.
The seals I like.
Yeah.
Because, you know, the president of the United States seal
or the Kentucky seal I like.
But the name, it just looks like something you'd get,
you know, with Myrtle Beach or something.
WW Raw starts tonight on Netflix, Shannon.
I know no one cares but me and you.
Yeah.
But it's a new era.
Monday Night Raw live on Netflix.
They're bringing apparently everyone back tonight.
So like The Rock, Austin, Hogan, everyone's on it tonight.
Are you going to watch?
Yeah, you got a Netflix login I can use.
I don't have Netflix, but I will find a way to watch it.
You don't have Netflix?
I don't know if I ever had it.
Or I was probably using my buddy's login.
Well, you watched wrestlers clearly.
Yeah, that's right.
Yeah, yeah, I had my friend's login.
So you've never had Netflix?
No.
Ever?
No.
Really?
Don't need it unless wrestlers has a season two.
I know you watch Tiger King and some of that stuff because we talked about Squid Game.
Like, how do you watch it?
We don't need to talk about that.
Just accept to the fact that I'm not stealing anything.
It's there.
We mean it's there.
It's just on my TV.
It's there.
So Louisville Media Box is what you're talking about.
You said that, not me.
I like how you were once one of the, you were once the biggest.
advocate for this and now you act like it's a secret society.
Well, it kind of is.
But yeah, local media box has it.
So, yeah.
So you are going to watch it.
I will be watching.
I'm looking forward to it.
I don't know if they'll change, you know, the rating on it now that it's on Netflix.
But, you know, for the last, what, 32 years it's been on USA.
Yeah, it'd be interesting to see if it changes the popularity like, you know, now it's on all over the world.
But at the same time, it's not on regular television.
So there'll be a lot of people who won't be able to watch it.
Maybe for the first time ever.
Netflix is stepping up their game with the Tyson fight.
They had the NFL game on Christmas and now Raw every Monday night.
Let me also give a shout out to Shannon here.
We had our OV.
For those of you stuck in your house, the OVW Rumble was Saturday night.
Shannon was really good.
That was awesome.
Objectively, it was really good.
They put on a heck of a show.
And Ryan, it ended in the ring.
I don't want to give a spoiler for people who might want to watch,
but it ended in the ring with two former WWW legends.
and Shannon the dude
As the three of them left in the ring.
Three legends in the ring as we went off the air.
I want you to think about it.
If you see the picture,
two guys who wrestled the WWE for like probably 20 years,
one of which was the champ and Shannon the dude standing in the center of the ring.
As it should be,
should be the three guys that, you know,
three champions together.
Yeah, three champions together.
Unbelievable.
So, yeah, it's like, I think it's like eight or ten bucks if you want to watch it.
Shannon is ridiculous, I have to say.
I mean, he's absolutely.
It was fun.
Randy.
Randy, go ahead, Randy.
That's you.
That's you, Randy.
I will tell you, Saturday's crowd was phenomenal.
I set in section 22 row R.
And it was just the most electric atmosphere that I think I can probably remember since maybe the Kansas game.
and we lost, even the Gonzaga game and lost.
But the crowd was great.
And, you know, you look at our next, let's see, we got Alabama on a Saturday.
And the game was 11 o'clock.
I said, first time I've ever been to a game in referee at 11 o'clock.
Seeing them play late games like that before, but never at 11 in the morning.
And it was just a great win.
Yeah, let's talk about, I appreciate the call.
Let's talk about our Saturday home games.
All right, so we play Saturday, January 18th.
against Alabama. We play Saturday, February 1st against Arkansas. These are just the games at Ruff.
Then we play February 8th against South Carolina. That game is at home. Our Tennessee game this year is
actually during the week, unfortunately. Then we've got on the 22nd of February, that's a road game
at Alabama, and then the 29th is Auburn, or excuse me, March 1st is Auburn. So we will have
Alabama, Arkansas, and Auburn at home on a Saturday. The Tennessee game,
is during the week.
But that Alabama, Arkansas, and Auburn Saturday, Ryan,
I mean, think about how awesome they're going to be.
It's going to be like that Florida game,
except maybe even more intense.
Yeah, no disrespect to the caller I called earlier about the crowd at Rupp.
She didn't think it was energetically.
They went on the 16-and-nothing run.
I had those people tell me at KS. Barr,
it was as good a crowd that they've ever seen the way they were reacting to the game on
Saturday.
So, yeah, that juggernaut of games coming up on Saturday,
don't you expect the crowd,
the atmosphere to be exactly the same.
We have four Saturday home games left this year.
Three of them are going to be against top.
Two of them are against top five teams.
One of them is Arkansas with Cal and then one of them will be South Carolina,
which isn't quite the same, but still cool.
Let's talk about the next few games.
All right, so they play at Georgia tomorrow night.
That's tomorrow night.
Like it's not far away.
At Georgia, Georgia is probably one of the three or four worst teams in the conference.
They got run out of the gym in their first game.
This is one of those games.
that you need to you need to win you could still lose it on the road but you need to win
this one this is a road game that I think Kentucky needs to go steal and as of right now I just
check with Tom Leach there's no travel issues with Kentucky they're still scheduled you know
their their their flight is still scheduled on to be on time no issues so I was kind
of worried about day yeah trying to fly out today yeah it's hard to see how people fly out
right there I agree man that's why I was worried about it but I mean maybe in last
Lexington, it's not as bad as well. I just don't see how anybody can fly out in Louisville right now.
But I guess so. The women's team, by the way, still in Nashville. They haven't been able to come home yet.
And then the next, and then Saturday is at Mississippi State. Now, Ryan, that's a hard game.
Mississippi State's ranked set like 18th or something. That's a game. That's a game. Honestly, I think Kentucky could lose.
Mississippi State's physical. Like, that's a loseable game, which is why I think Tuesday is so important.
I think if you win Tuesday, if you win Saturday, that's even better.
But you really, I think Tuesday's a big game for them tomorrow because I think that
at Mississippi State game on a Saturday night at 830, that place is going to be wild.
This game Tuesday's big.
I think Mississippi State is really sneaky good.
Like maybe even one of the dark horses in the conference, we talk about all the powerhouses,
but this Mississippi State team is really, really good.
And like you said, they play a way that causes Kentucky problems.
And they're very well coached.
Very well coached.
It's a guy.
What is his name?
Chris,
uh,
Jans.
Is that right?
Yeah.
He's a,
Shannon the dentist.
Yeah.
The dentist.
He's a Chris Beard disciple.
Why do they call him the dentist?
Because playing his team is like going to the dentist.
How stupid.
That is the work.
Like of all the nicknames.
The dentist.
Could you imagine you want to be called the dentist?
Why do you hate that one?
It's stupid.
The dentist.
Who do you think gave him that name?
Who do you think was like we're going to call you the dentist?
I don't know.
I want some coach to be like,
call me.
the plumber.
Son of a plumber.
I will unclog your team.
You don't want to unclog your team.
You want to clog your team.
Well, then it's the opposite, I guess, of a plumber.
Dentist is a pretty terrible.
It is.
It is.
It's a pretty terrible.
I don't mind going to the dentist.
But we need, Georgia, I mean, that's tomorrow night.
It's right here.
And we need to get the victory.
They've got, by the way, Georgia's got a dude.
I think, Ryan, they got a dude is a top 10 projection.
projected pick. Did you know that?
Didn't know that. They have a freshman. I don't know his name, but he's
good. And he's projected top 10 in the draft. So, I mean, I think he's a big guy. So,
just something to watch. Who's next? Let's go to Curtis. Curtis. Go ahead, Curtis.
Yeah, um, hi, guys. This is my, um, my first time calling.
And I would have a game on Saturday.
And I like to all my thought it was the loudest crowd that I've seen in a long time.
I've went to nine games at a Rup, and they have never lost when I've been now.
Nine and Oh, well, we need to get you there for Arkansas.
1st. So the loudest crowd. Well, I appreciate it. I hope you had a good time, sir. Oh, yeah, I did. I got to meet
Travis Ford and I got an autograph from, um, Mocha, um, uh, Coke. Well, that's, I mean, listen,
Mark, and I appreciate the call. Mark Pope's going to be one of those people. I think everybody's
going to, like, he's got to be signing more autographs Ryan than anybody. I mean, I feel like he stays
after game and signs for everyone. He's so gracious, too.
You know, he makes conversation with you while, you know, he's asking about you and you're trying to get his autograph.
That just what makes him he's a special guy.
He does do that.
Like when I went to meet him, we talked for probably an hour and probably 45 minutes of it.
He was just talking, asking me about me, which, you know, Ryan, not a lot of coaches would do that.
You know what I mean?
They usually will talk about them or there.
And he's the opposite.
He's just a genuinely very good guy.
Stockton Mortgage.
Tell me about it.
Stockton Mortgage.
You know, if you're thinking about buying a house this spring or summer,
now's the time to go ahead and get that pre-approval letter.
Might as well go ahead and get started.
You know, the interest rates are still a little high,
but there's not much inventory,
but there's a couple reports that come out already to think 2025,
the housing market's going to turn around,
and me as a realtor, I sure hope so.
So go to Stockton Mortgage, Stockton.com, MLS, 8259, equal housing lender.
I was right about Patino starting the post game.
Yeah, I've been seeing a lot of those pictures and things.
You know, I remember that?
Like, it was a big thing, especially early.
be like 10 or 11, maybe like 10,000 people stay in those early years.
Cal and Pope, they've usually got one side full, but looks like that one picture of
Patino, man, half the lower bowl was full.
Yeah, that first year, he had everybody there.
All right, we'll take a break.
Come back.
Final segment.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
We get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on Earth.
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes,
coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that
keeps them going.
From the WMBA standout, Kate Martin,
and rising hockey star Layla Edwards.
If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't.
Like, I've never understood that.
Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you,
but don't ever feel like you don't feel on.
Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.
An Olympic champs, Gabby Thomas, and Katie Ledecki.
The ability to show a gold medal to someone
and have their face light up and smile,
that means the world to me.
And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals,
at our level at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world.
Like, I can do anything.
I can do anything.
Because resilience isn't just about winning.
It's about showing up, even when it's hard.

It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all,
embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

That's right.
Ice, Ice Baby.
That's where we got all over the place here today.
859-28027.
772-7-4-5-254 they call Chris Jans, the Dennis, Shannon, because he grinds out victories.
Still a terrible name.
Like, of all the dentist.
The dentist.
Stop it.
One piece of good news, Kentucky got a football commitment from the number two-ranked defensive
linemen in the portal.
That's pretty good, right?
Yeah, that kind of came out of nowhere.
From Washington State.
Washington State.
What's his name?
Gusto, Gus.
I can't read my own handwriting.
David's something.
But I'm not going to act like I watch Washington State play.
I think they play on the CW, which is not a station I watch for football a lot.
But he's number two ranked in the portal.
We need defensive linemen.
So, Ryan, I'll take it.
Absolutely.
Like we've talked about, a position of knees to get the edge rusher from USC.
And you get this guy from Washington State.
You got to think that's going to fill the Kishon Silver, Dionne Walker void that they left.
Well, we hope so.
I mean, we hope so.
It's going to be so hard with this football team.
Like, I mean, it's going to be like the basketball team this year.
We're not going to know who any of these guys are.
Like any of them.
I think it's going to be that just continue to be that way, man.
They have to go to the border to stay competitive.
So you've got to get guys going to hurt of.
Last year, we knew a lot of these dudes coming in.
On the defensive line, yeah.
And even like we knew our receivers and we knew our offensive lines.
I mean, we knew most of our guys' lives.
This is going to be a completely new team.
Yeah, it is.
Completely new.
So, you know, that's the way it goes.
Who's next?
Chase.
Chase, go ahead, Chase.
Hey, I was just annoyed that you cut off Bob and Jamestown.
I mean, he was, especially when he had a point about the bluegrass conspiracy.
What was his point?
Wait a minute, what was his point?
The topic was Hal McCoy, and he switched it to the bluegrass conspiracy.
It was something about Sally didn't.
I think he got it from AOL or something because I saw, I looked it up and there was something.
Yeah.
It was something about Aaron Chandler brought a new book out or something that details are bothered.
It's the problem.
Shannon, we can't have this show turn into where Bob's mind is every day, right?
It's all over the place.
Because it's all over the place.
I mean, that should have been Bob's moment in the sub.
He brought up how McCoy, how McCoy ends up on the show.
And instead, he's talking about the bluegrass conspiracy and whatever.
Like, you understand, I can't just every time we have him on,
just wherever his mind happens to be that day, sir.
Well, he's my favorite caller, so.
All right, I appreciate it.
That's one.
Do we think Bob has a huge fan club in the listening audience?
You know what?
As long as you can affect one life, that's all that matters.
I'm telling you, he had his one moment where he could kind of gloat a little bit about the Hal McCoy thing,
and he went to, you know, Sally Denton and the Bluegrass Conspiracy and the MREs.
I really am worried that nothing's open.
Oh, it's not.
But what, you wouldn't, nothing?
Your neighbor's kitchen's probably open.
I can't go knock on her door.
Oh.
Do you have more soup?
Like, I can't do that.
What do you care at this point?
At least you're in an area where you can't walk up and down the street and hopefully stumble upon something.
As soon as this is over, I'm going to put my jacket on, my toboggan,
and I'm going to walk up and down the street and go,
do any of you have anything?
Are any of you open?
This subway over here was open to late.
And between me and you, Shannon, Subway might be the last thing on earth I would ever want.
Former KSR food bracket winner.
That's right.
I know, which was when the bracket should have been retired,
was the fact that your all's pallets picked Subway.
a hell of a draw that year.
Stop.
Who's next?
Kelly.
Kelly, go ahead, Kelly.
Hey, in 2005 in Montgomery County,
over 500 people arrested for cockfighting.
Mount Sterling used to be the Super Bowl of cockfighting.
You're telling me there were 500 people arrested at once?
500 people.
Google it.
You did.
2005.
The Montgomery County Jail can't be big enough to hold 500 people, could it?
Well, but they were excited, excuse me.
They were all subsided.
Over 500 people, there is an arena here in the county.
It has stadium seating.
It has a cafeteria.
What are they serving chicken?
I say this every time, though, but if there is an arena,
they're serving chicken.
That's a good line.
If there's an arena with a cafeteria where they do it, then why don't they, like, how does that operate?
The police have to know that's happening.
What happened.
It was raided.
It was raided by the Kentucky State Police, and the Kentucky State Police did not inform the local sheriff's office exactly what was going on.
So it is assumed that the sheriff and everybody sort of knew what was going on out there, but they...
There's no way you could have...
500 people in an arena in a county like Montgomery County and I appreciate the call.
But the police not in hope.
Yeah. Right. I mean, they must have just, well, again, I don't know if it was 20 years ago.
I'm not sure. I just, I will say this.
When it comes to the state of Kentucky, I'm not saying I know everything. I don't.
But I've learned a lot over the years from this show, from the travels for the book.
Like, I feel like I know as much about this county as almost, or this state is almost anybody outside of,
of a handful of people.
The one thing that continues to shock is how much cockfighting is going on.
It's the one thing, Shannon, that when I read about in this state, I go, wow, I didn't realize
there was this much cockfighting.
We love our cockfighting in Kentucky.
He's right.
It was in 2005.
How many people?
More than 500 people were cited in an April raid and alleged cockfighting operation.
500 people.
Yep.
500 people.
Most of them pled guilty.
It's like historic Davis Arena, everybody getting arrested.
Wow.
No, that's bigger than historic Davis Arena.
That's a hundred more people than historic Davis Arena.
Wow.
That's insane.

I'm not sure.
But we will have the show.
And then Thursday and Friday, we're giving away money from Country Road spirits.

We'll talk more about that as we go.
Ryan, stay safe.
Shannon.
You do, man.
Stay safe.
And all of you that are out that have to be out, everybody be careful.
