Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt
Starting point is 00:03:59 Jones. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Hour number two, Matt Jones, Ryan Lemon, Shannon, the dude. For people who are asking, by the way, Drew is, in terms of equipment, I have something at my house. We have the official equipment, which Ryan has at his house, and Drew can't get to Ryan's house. So that's why Drew's not on. He's fine. Has anybody heard from Mario? You know, he's not letting the snow a lot. Is he good? He was texting me. Yeah, he was texting. So he must be all right, right? I have no idea where Max is. Max just disappeared for like two weeks. Is he like... He's still in the States, I think. But he just was like, yeah, I'm going to go away for a few weeks.
Starting point is 00:04:41 I thought he was staying with you for a while. No? Yeah, but he's not there now. So I don't know where he is. He just left. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know where he is. So...
Starting point is 00:04:50 I have an idea. Seattle? Yeah, Seattle. Could be in Seattle. We'll just leave that there. that was you just for the record max that was shannon that said that not me 859280 2287 uh on the text machine 7772 7754 what person writes matt my mom listens to this show she texted me that she may turn off the second hour because she gets so mad that you and shannon give ryan
Starting point is 00:05:23 a hard time she thinks you're too mean to him i'd like to know whether or not you and shannon think you're too mean and whether or not Ryan thinks he's too mean. I don't think we're too mean. Oh, I knew Shannon's answer right there. I mean, he gave the guy a hard time because he doesn't know what he drives. Yeah. I feel like that's not like, I feel like it's common knowledge. Everybody knows what they drive.
Starting point is 00:05:43 Ryan, do you think we're too hard on you? No, because I get it. We're like, like I said, many times. We're just brothers, man, and you just pick on each other all the time. So I'm not offended by it. Here's what I would say to people who say that. every i don't know about i don't know how women are with each other i think i think women give each other a hard time too about like you know but here's what i know about men you get any group of men together
Starting point is 00:06:08 that are good friends and you just put them and they're screwing with each other right right shan i mean they are they're making fun of each other but they do it out of love there's making fun to be mean and then there's making fun out of love and there's any group of male friends that happens the difference is we just do it in front of you all. And like, that's different and it's a little more vulnerable, but that's the thing we decided to do when we decide to be on the radio. You know, and like that's part of the tradeoff of doing this, is that you end up being more vulnerable, but then you also get to have a really cool job and you get to talk to people on the radio. So you guys are eavesdropping on a group of friends' conversations. But if you were to hear,
Starting point is 00:06:55 like I'd say to this mother, first of all, thank you for listening. But if you were to hear your husband and his friends, Ryan, chances are they doing the same things to each other too. Yeah, they just don't have a microphone in front of their face. They just don't have a microphone in front of them, right? My grandfather would go to the SEC tournament with his friends, and they were all like church-going people, Shannon, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:14 And then the moment we got to the SEC tournament, they started screwing around with each other. For me, it's like, you know, my way to show that I like you. If I don't make fun of you, I probably don't like you. probably don't like yeah have i ever told you the story real quick shannon about when we were uh when i was with my grandfather and his friends at the cc tournament and the stripper came out at applebees oh god no i want to hear this story have you never heard i don't think so i never remember that right so when i was a kid i would go to the cc tournament with my grandfather and his friends and the group included like the future like the mayor of middlesborough like the lead singer
Starting point is 00:07:52 at one of the churches, right? Like this was an outstanding. These were moral people, Shandh, right? Including my grandfather. And I was nervous around them, although they were always very nice to me. So it was like a bunch of 60 and 70-year-old men and me. And sometimes from like age 7 to like 12.
Starting point is 00:08:10 We went to Birmingham in 1992. I've talked about that tournament before. I still think the greatest SEC tournament of all time, right? 1992. A lot of people support your argument on that. We're in Birmingham. my grandfather at the time was kind of sick and we went to a dinner and we went to Applebee's in Burlesington. Why not?
Starting point is 00:08:31 Well, because when you're from Middlesbril shit and that's big time eating, right? Eating good in the neighborhood. Eating good in the neighborhood. And we're all having our dinners like eight people. And this is like the kind of, you know, this is the who's who of the Middlesboro business community, right? Leader of the church choir, shan. Big time.
Starting point is 00:08:47 And at the table next to us is a bachelor party. at Appleby's. This woman comes in and she starts stripping. Whoa. I'm not kidding you. She like comes in and does one of those like, hello boys.
Starting point is 00:09:03 You know, and we're sitting right next to them. And she gets down and she ends up like, you know, in provocative wear at the Applebee's in Birmingham. You got a free show. You didn't have to pay for that. Well, I'm 12.
Starting point is 00:09:17 Can you imagine this? I think that this is the greatest moment in my life. Who thought at the Birmingham Applebee's, I'd get to see that level of skin, Shannon. You just didn't think that was plausible. I've never seen that at Applebee's before. Of course. Now, the Middlesbril men, like, they don't, they're kind of, like, they're smiling more than I thought they would. You know.
Starting point is 00:09:38 There's still men at the end of the day. I know, and this doesn't happen in Middlesbrough. I don't think a lot either. Well, the manager comes over after like 30 or 45 seconds until. the woman, you can't be doing this at the Applebee's in Birmingham during the SEC tournament. Yeah. And it's like, it was like something in wrestling. Like he puts an overcoat over and takes her out the door.
Starting point is 00:10:00 Did your table stand up start? Yeah, it was like a big trench coat. Like, you're going to have to go. And I remember my grandfather and his friend, I won't say which one, because his family might be listening. They both looked at me and just said, don't tell your mother. And, of course, I didn't for a long time. I eventually told him. But, you know, you're 12 years old.
Starting point is 00:10:22 That's part of why, Ryan, I say the 1992 SEC tournament was the best one. Now we know the real reason. It wasn't just Jamal Mashburn, Shaquille O'Neill, Todd Day, Lee, LeMayberry, Oliver Miller, James Hollywood, Robertson, Robert Orie, LaTrells-Preewell. It was also the Appleby's in Birmingham. She was the real MVP that year. She was the real MVP. Couple things. Tonight, Ryan, the debut of the world indoor golf league.
Starting point is 00:10:53 Do you know about this? I do not know anything about this. Tiger Woods and Rory McElroy have created this thing. Like, you know, when you go play on a golf simulator, have you ever done that? Yeah, right. And you, like, hit the ball and it goes into the screen and it shows you what it does. I think there's a couple places in Lexington where you can do. this, right? They're doing a professional golf league of that. Wow. And it's going to have like all
Starting point is 00:11:21 these pro golfers, including Tiger and Roar. And it debuts tonight on ESPN, like Scott Van Pelt is the host. And it's going to be going for like the next six or eight weeks. Now, I haven't seen it. And it debuts tonight. It actually debuts during our, it debuts right after the Kentucky game. It sounds Ryan to me awful. Like I cannot imagine watching people do an indoor golf simulator on TV. But there are people who watch video games. I know Barstall has that guy Jerry who does this sometimes. But do you think this will catch on professional golfers playing indoor doors on a screen and watch people watching it on ESP? I surprisingly am going to say yes because the younger generation spends hours and hours watching
Starting point is 00:12:16 other people play video games. And the fact that Tiger Woods has his name attached to this, people will tune in just because of Tiger. So yeah, I think you could probably have some success. Well, you watch it. I knew nothing about it. That's what, why didn't they promote it a little bit? I mean, this is kind of a cool event.
Starting point is 00:12:32 I'm not seeing any promotion about it at all. And yet I'm going to tune in the night now that you just. told me about it. All right, Shannon, will you watch? I think they haven't promoted it because they realize it's going to suck. No, I mean, I'll watch it out of curiosity just to see what it looks like. Yeah. But, no, I don't think it's going to catch on at all.
Starting point is 00:12:47 Do you, I mean, I got just hitting a ball into a screen? But again, I mean, Ryan's right. Like, I kind of feel like this is probably an attempt to get younger people. It sounds awful to me. Like, I want to watch, first of all, one of the things I've learned about golf is if they're not playing for something that matters, it's not entertained. You know what I mean? Like, when they're playing.
Starting point is 00:13:06 playing against each other in these like the match and stuff. I actually find it really boring because it doesn't seem like it matters who wins. But the other thing is I just, I can't imagine wanting to watch a guy like hit it into a screen. And if it's not Tiger, I really don't think I would care. Like do you want to watch Xander Shoffley hit a ball into a screen, Shannon? No, I don't. Like I said, I'll tune in to watch it to see, like, you know, what the presentation is.
Starting point is 00:13:37 Maybe it's more than what we're talking about. But if it's a golf simulator, I mean, that's what it's always been when I've been to a golf simulator. Well, I'm going to be like you. I'm going to turn it on after the game tonight just before the pregame show, just to see what it looks like. But Ryan, I just have a hard time thinking this will be interesting. I think you're right. I think the generation they're trying to attract, not us.
Starting point is 00:13:59 I think all the young golfers of the world and the young people that have played a lot on a simulator, they're the ones that will probably tune in tonight, It feels like if you like that, wouldn't you just watch them play regular golf? Do they have like a, is it like a bracket? Like a 32 player bracket? I don't know. I'm not sure what the format is, but it's a league. I think there are teams or something, but I don't.
Starting point is 00:14:19 Zero chance this catch is on long term. I kind of feel like to say, wait. Then Louisville plays tonight. Now, far be it from me to make fun of Louisville. And granted, I'm going to grant you, the weather's bad. Okay, so that plays an impact in this. I get it. But Louisville plays Clemson at home tonight.
Starting point is 00:14:36 It's a big game for them, right? I mean, Louis has a chance to be the second, third, or fourth best team in the ACC. Clemson is probably the second best team next to Duke. It's a big game for them. They are giving, when I say they're giving away tickets, they're giving away tickets. Literally, this guy who I guess is one of the boosters of the, he, like, owns Planet Fitness. He got online and yesterday said, I will give 500 tickets to anybody who, writes me here. And of course, people wrote it. If you're a member at Planet Fitness,
Starting point is 00:15:14 Shannon, you get four free tickets to the game to know. Bring the entire family. Now, this is a game against the top 25 team. This is Louisville basketball, one of the greatest programs of all time. And they're giving away tickets if you have a membership at Planet Fitness. Isn't that insane? Yeah. When we made fun of them before, you at least had to go buy like a carton of milk and you got tickets. Remember that?
Starting point is 00:15:44 I just cannot believe. They have a good team, a team that could make the tournament. This is Louisville basketball. I know the weather's bad, but they were doing this before the weather got bad, just for the record. The idea that they have to give away tickets if you have a membership to Planet Fitness, Ryan,
Starting point is 00:16:04 did you ever think that would happen? Never ever, I think it would happen to a fan base that's been pretty solid over the years. Drew said it 100 times. They're broken. That fan base, they're broken. Jenny broke them. Kenny broke them. I'm not making fun of this, although I guess I am a little.
Starting point is 00:16:22 I'm just shocked. Yeah. I'm shocked that they have to give away tickets to play a top 25 team. That's amazing to me. But that's where they are right now, and that's what they're going to have to do. Who's up next? Clay. Clay, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:16:36 had Clay. Hey, Matt, this is Clay. I'm the, I'm the guy that had the baby that Kobe Bray held after the game on Saturday. Oh, okay. So you're the one that, here we go again. Here we go, how McCoy calls up right after. Tell me about that's not nose baby. All right, I tell you what, I have some questions for you about the baby. Can I, can I do my ad and take a break and then get you right after the break? Is that okay? Yeah, of course. Yeah. Okay, let's do that. Because I, I, I, I actually have more than 30 seconds of questions, but I got to take a break. So let's go to cornbread hemp.com.
Starting point is 00:17:15 During this snow, you know, you could get a little antsy. It's a little cold. Take cornbread hemp. You go right to sleep. That's what I do. Works all the time. It will work for you, cornbread hemp.com. promo code KSR, 30% off.
Starting point is 00:17:27 You know, this is a way to help you relax without the hangover and all the things of other items. Go to cornbread hemp. com. promo code KSR. Full Spectrum, Flower-only hemp, CBD gum. from Corbred Hip. When we come back, the guy who gave the baby to Brea and more, this is KSR.

And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
Starting point is 00:19:01 And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on Earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Starting point is 00:19:18 Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free, our heart radio app.
Starting point is 00:19:34 Search learn the hard way and listen now. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I'm ever come across. When Jacob met Levin this plant to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings
Starting point is 00:20:10 from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast. Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer them? On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them
Starting point is 00:20:52 and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't belong. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.
Starting point is 00:21:10 An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeki. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything.
Starting point is 00:21:30 because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHart Women's Sports. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Starting point is 00:21:56 Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all. embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Back, it is Kentucky Sports Radio. Channing the text of the day here. I think you'd like from 772-745254.
Starting point is 00:22:30 One person writes, Matt, they do that at every Applebee's. You just have to order the bottomless fries. I didn't know that. That's good. No, I'm eating lunch. He's eating good in the neighborhood, right? That's what they're doing. All right.
Starting point is 00:22:46 So we got the guy on your, what's your name again, sir? Yeah, my name is Clay. Clay, so you're the one that gave the baby to Kobe Brea. First of all, how did that end up happen? Yeah. Yeah, so I have a family member. I'm not going to say their name, but they work in media. and they got a stand on the floor right when the game was ending,
Starting point is 00:23:09 and we wanted to listen to the Pope's show. So, you know, they were all, Jackson came over and got a picture with him, and then Kobe did. And then Kobe went back in the locker room, and I guess he came back out. And Pope, he does, like, segments, so he did his first segment, and then he went over to one side of the crowd, and then he went to our side, and then he didn't make it all the way down. So I was like, you know, it's my son's first UK game,
Starting point is 00:23:33 and, you know, he's a little guy, and, you know, I just thought it'd be cool, you know, get a picture with Coach Pope. So Kobe was standing right next to me, and I said, hey, man, do you, where are the chances you could take my son Cade over and get a quick picture with Coach Pope? And he smiled at me. So he took the baby to get the picture with Pope. Okay, gotcha. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:53 Were you at all worried? It's not like I was just like, hey, man, here's my baby. I'm going to go to the bathroom and get a drink. You know, I didn't think that would be the case. So were you worried at all? I mean, like, you know, handing your baby to. to a college basketball player. Did that worry you at all?
Starting point is 00:24:12 Not really. I mean, I know my wife was in the background. I mean, she was probably embarrassed. I know she was. She actually, she messaged you last night. But yeah,
Starting point is 00:24:19 she was embarrassed. But I wasn't too worried because I asked first. I said, are you sure? Like, you feel comfortable doing this. And he's not, yeah,
Starting point is 00:24:26 I feel comfortable. And he's a good baby. He doesn't really cry or anything. He seems like he has a good handle, Shannon. So I think I feel like that would. All right. So now,
Starting point is 00:24:33 so you get the picture. That's now become like kind of a famous picture. Like he went everywhere. So that had to be cool. That had to be cool, right? Oh, yeah. It was the best dad moment ever because my dad used to take me to games. And I got a picture of a tubby.
Starting point is 00:24:49 And we went to the bar at your bar after the game. I was hoping you'd be doing the show there, but the weather was coming in and stuff. But there were people that would just come up to me. And they were like, hey, is that the baby that got a picture of Coach Polp? The most famous baby. We were leaving a guy put up in a truck. Right. So now here's the serious question.
Starting point is 00:25:06 Hey, is that a baby? Here's the most important question. Your baby wasn't sick, was it? I was about to bring that up. No, none of us are sick, and Dave is perfectly, he is not sick at all. So I saw some of that this morning. I was like, come on now. My baby's not sick.
Starting point is 00:25:21 All right, good. So it's not from the baby. That's what we are. Good. I'm glad. I just wanted to make sure because, you know, babies have a lot of snot. So I'm glad that your baby didn't have snot. And, well, listen, that's very cool.
Starting point is 00:25:32 Thank you for calling. And it'll be a great memory for you. Yeah. Thanks, Matt. Thank you guys. There you go. That's good. That's good to hear. So we're kind of reporters, Ryan. We can now report that Kobe Brea did not get sick from the baby. If he is definitely sick, it didn't come from baby Cade, so we can't blame baby Cade if that's the issue right now. So I'm glad to clear that. Imagine the baby was sick, though, and everybody blamed the baby. I can't blame a baby.
Starting point is 00:26:01 Yeah. Our fan base would. It's not the baby's fault. Yeah. I mean, I understand. So I again, talk about having reporters, Ryan. I have somebody who was at the final rehearsal for the golf league last night. Okay? In West Palm Beach, they were there. And they said to me, they sent me pictures and video of it. I mean, it looks cool, but I don't know if it'll be cool. The person wrote, I went to the final rehearsal last night.
Starting point is 00:26:31 It's like the NBA meets golf in a stadium with museums. or with music and a shot clock, the green moves and changes every hole. So does that sound good? I think it's worth a little. I'm going to check it out. I mean, I don't know if I'm going to watch it every week or every competition.
Starting point is 00:26:48 That's how good to you, say it out. No. No. No. Doesn't change it for me. We'll see. We'll watch it.
Starting point is 00:26:54 Comes on 9 o'clock tonight, so we'll find out. I do have an ask Matt questions since it's ask anything Tuesday. Okay. This is for you. Rory and Tiger were both very anti-Elive golf. How is it not hypocritical for them to start another league? It is a little bit.
Starting point is 00:27:10 I mean, all these golfers, okay, so you can be against live golf because of the Saudi Arabian thing. And I think that's principled. But I never felt like these dudes were, most of them were against it for that. They were just against it that they were getting all these money and they weren't. And they were, like, I think golf, the split has hurt golf a lot. I think golf outside of the majors now has become almost. unwatchable. And part of it is this split. So maybe this will make it better. I kind of doubt it will.
Starting point is 00:27:42 And I do think if people want to be able to say it's a little hypocritical, I think that's fair. But then again, if kids watch it, you know, golf has a problem with kids. Like kids are not into it as much anymore. So maybe it'll make it better. But I am a huge golf fan. And I have found I can't watch a golf tournament now unless it's one of the majors. And that's a shame because I used to watch them all the time. But it's just not interesting to me anymore. And, you know, for better or worse, that's just kind of how I feel about it. Who's next? Carol. Carol, go ahead, Carol. Hi, guys. I'm calling with a story concerning people that can't get out of their house. Okay. I'm a very senior citizen, and I had a medical appointment yesterday that I was
Starting point is 00:28:29 determined to keep. Thanks to two very special Uber drivers I got there yesterday morning. So I want to give a shout out to Shaq and Amos. They were both super considerate and they were concerned about my safety. They made sure I got in and out of the car, you know, carefully. And after I got back for my appointment, I was kind of reflecting on all of this, and I was reminded how upset I get when I hear plans to deport certain groups of people. Because one of these drivers immigrated here when he was 40 years old from South Africa. He speaks, writes, and reads five languages. There are many instances just like this where people don't take. the time to think. These people are working and they're helping people like me.
Starting point is 00:29:33 Well, first of all, that's very cool that they did that for you. Sheenek and Amos. Those are two great names, by the way, Sheneck and Amos. But I also think more, I do, when things like weather happen, it always reminds me that like it's easy to turn on TV and think the world is like everybody hates each other. But for the most part, I think 98% of people are good and 98% of people want to help people. And in a situation like that, helping you get to and from the doctor, I think that's very sweet. Thank you for telling us that story. And I'm glad your homes stay warm, okay?
Starting point is 00:30:13 All righty, thanks. Same to you all. All right, there you go. I like the name, Shaenek and Amos. When's the last time you heard of a person named Amos? I don't know. I don't know anybody named Amos. Amos.
Starting point is 00:30:25 I don't either. I mean, I don't know that I ever. Yeah, but that was a hundred years ago. And I don't think that I can't think of a, yeah, I can't think of a person. I don't know that I've ever known a person named Amos. I don't either. So, so a nice job by those folks.
Starting point is 00:30:47 And yeah, you know, I see, I saw somebody walking down the street on Bars Town Road, like helping an older person trying to get to the bus stop. you know, bad weather does bring out the best of people. And I wish we had more chances for people to show that side. We'll take a break. Be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Starting point is 00:31:11 Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Is this Jerry Lee? Jerry Reed. Jerry Reed. Yeah. Okay. I always hear this song on Willie's Roadhouse.
Starting point is 00:31:25 It comes on quite a bit. Probably the only place you're going to hear it. Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of it, but I do know it. It's called what Amos Moses? Amos Moses. Is that right? Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:31:36 859-28027, Ryan Reed Shepherd got sent to the G League yesterday. Probably a little bit of a surprise to probably a lot of people. It's kind of rare for top five picks to get sent to the G League. It happens, but it's kind of rare. You know, he hasn't, it's kind of a couple things. One, he's on a team that had the third pick, but has ended up good. So that's probably a little surprising is that they're actually pretty good. I think they're the two or three seed right now in the West.
Starting point is 00:32:13 And they also have a lot of guards. I mean, he's like the fifth or sixth guard on the team. And a lot of their guards have improved a lot and gotten really good. So part of it is he's on a team. that's probably better than they thought, and he's got guys ahead of him that have improved. The other part of it is he just hasn't really played well. When he comes in, and part of it is he's only playing like,
Starting point is 00:32:34 he'll only get to play like a handful of minutes here and there. He doesn't, his shots aren't going in. So the combination of that, I think they think he needs to go. He'll get regular minutes. He'll start in the G League and like hopefully get a rhythm. But a little disappointing for Reid. A lot of the guys, this draft has ended up being, I think, better than people thought. And, you know, he's not ended up having the year, I think, that a lot of people had hoped.
Starting point is 00:32:59 I was a little surprised when I saw that. I got to admit, but you said it, man, the rockets are guard heavy and it's better than playing two or three minutes a game. Get him some run. Get some minutes where he's not just sitting there on the bench not doing anything. I think it may end up being a, you know, a wise move on the Rockets part. I mean, it's been kind of, listen, I still think both these guys have a really bright future. but for Reed and Rob, it's for both of them been a little disappointed. I mean, they both, if you look at the top 10 picks, they're playing less minutes than almost
Starting point is 00:33:34 everybody and they just haven't had a lot of success, either one of them. You know, I still long-term think both of them can be good. But, you know, so a lot of people are now saying, well, Reed should have come back. If Reed had come back, he'd be playing here. I mean, Shannon, I just kind of think that's. stupid. He made $20 million guaranteed. I'd love to have had him back, but he made the right decision. He was the third pick. If he goes in the draft this year, he's not going to be higher than the third pick. That's it right there. That's why you go. You're not going to improve anymore, right?
Starting point is 00:34:07 I mean, you may go up one spot, but what's the difference really? Probably not, though. I mean, there's two Cooper flag and that, what's the kid's name at Rutgers, whatever's. There's two guys at Rutgers. I don't think he'd have been picked ahead of any of them. So, like, If he came back and was the fourth or fifth pick, Shannon, that wouldn't have done him any good. Right. And then you've got to wonder, like, who do we not have on this roster because of that? You know, you're going to lose somebody. Yeah, you probably wouldn't have.
Starting point is 00:34:32 Kobe, maybe, maybe Otega. I don't know. Yeah, maybe Kobe, maybe Otega, one of those guys. But he made the right decision, Ryan. And even if his, and I think his NBA career, I still think he's going to be good. But even if it never does, dude, you can't turn down $20 million of guaranteed money to come back and maybe be. be in the exact same or worse position than you would have been otherwise. Yeah, just let him just sit and improve, man.
Starting point is 00:34:57 I mean, he's just still, what, 19 years old, you know, let him get some run of the G League. There's been all these stories of guys that have done that. Go down, then come back and end up, you know, staying the rest of their career. Are you surprised, Shannon, that the best rookie, well, right now they do this thing where they rank the rookies, NBA ranks them.
Starting point is 00:35:16 Right now, the best rookie's a guy I'd never heard of that went to the Pelicans. and part of why he's the best is he plays a lot. But the second best rookie right now by stats is Zach Eadie. Can you believe why? No, I never thought that was going to happen. Who would have, I mean, I don't know that I thought he'd be a bus, but when you watch that dude play,
Starting point is 00:35:36 I saw something, he's the only player in the NBA that in his last 15 games, his plus minus has been a plus every game. Wow. I mean, I know he was good at Purdue. He was good for what they did. I just didn't know that that would train. as well as it has so far early in his career.
Starting point is 00:35:54 Would you have thought, Ryan, Zach Eadie would be a productive, I mean, went ninth in the draft, so, I mean, clearly somebody thought that. But the way the NBA game is now, it just didn't seem like it fit the way he plays, but he's proven his wrong. Yeah. I mean, give him credit, man. You watch that guy in his early career in Purdue. You would have never thought.
Starting point is 00:36:12 No. He can play in the NBA. And now he's not only playing. He's on a good team, and he's playing really well. Who's next? Tom. Tom. Go ahead, Tom.
Starting point is 00:36:21 Hey, I've got a hot basketball topic, maybe controversial. So I think we can all agree that basketball, once you get to the high school, college, or pro level, is in the entertainment industry. People pay to go watch this product on the court. So my idea is if we want to get women's basketball more entertaining, you can do a few things, lower the rim to nine foot, shorten the court. Before you do anything, why would you say any of this? Women's basketball is more popular now than it's ever been. I mean, literally, women's basketball, the college women's NCAA championship game last year out drew the men's. Now, I probably won't do that this year, but that's still, like, I don't think the sport has ever been more popular than it is right now.
Starting point is 00:37:13 Couldn't disagree. I mean, couldn't agree more. Absolutely. But it was because of one or two players, and people wanted to. to see them play and they made it exciting. That's going to die out, I think. I mean, it may. It's definitely clearly Caitlin Clark and to a lesser extent, Angel Reese,
Starting point is 00:37:32 but clearly Caitlin Clark was a huge personality that made a big difference. But, you know, getting it to nine feet, I mean, I just, I think there's an assumption there. Like, the women, it's never going to be as athletic as the men. but it's a different sport, but that's okay, right? Like, that's all right. It doesn't have to be the same. It doesn't have to be, but if you want to increase the crowd, if you want to make it more entertaining,
Starting point is 00:38:01 then why not lower the court? Why not lower them, let them go in and be able to, you know, jam? Yeah. And maybe even put in a go-tending line so that if you go inside, you have to go in strong. Yeah. Well, I think it probably, and I appreciate the call, that I don't think you elevate the sport by telling young women that they can't,
Starting point is 00:38:26 like they have to play with a different, I mean, I already play with a different ball, right? Going to nine feet, I don't think women's basketball to be entertaining has to duck. I mean, what made Caitlin Clark entertaining was her being able to shoot the way she did. And, you know, so I would disagree with that, right, although, you know, maybe I'm wrong. The women's game is exciting in its own way. It's just different. It's just different. You know, and the U.K. women are playing an exciting, different kind of basketball.
Starting point is 00:38:55 Yeah. You know, I like the women's game. They play four quarters. That's something I think the guys should maybe. The guys should do that. I think they should play four quarters. It just cuts down on the free throws, right? You don't, because it's five fouls each quarter,
Starting point is 00:39:09 you just don't have as many free throws. You don't spend as much time just standing there at the line towards the second half of each half, which I think makes it better. Who's next? Price. Price. Go ahead, Price. Hey, how's it going, guys?
Starting point is 00:39:24 There's a guy, you were talking about Amos. There's a guy that played running back for West Virginia. His name was Amos, their way. He played for West Virginia. Then he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1999, and he played for the Oakland Raiders in New England Patriots. There you go. I never heard that name.
Starting point is 00:39:45 Thank you, guys. Appreciate it. They also have those cookies. What are those cookies called? Famous Amos. Famous Amos. When I did my trivia question, when I did my trivia question just a few couple weeks ago, it's one of the five most popular cookies in America. Did you know that?
Starting point is 00:40:01 Really? That's why it's famous. Famous. It's like Oreos, then chips aoi, then like pepperage farm something, Nabisco, Nibisco, vanilla wafers, and then Famous Amos. Do you still know people who still eat vanilla wafers? I ate them as a kid and I loved them. I did too. But do you know, like when's the last time you've seen a vanilla wafer?
Starting point is 00:40:27 It's been probably 30 years. Me, I agree. But it was fourth on the amount. Some kids still eating them? I don't know. Can you buy them like in a gas station? Probably in a grocery store, yeah. I haven't seen a vanilla wafer since my grandparents died.
Starting point is 00:40:43 But somehow it's still number four. I'm like everybody's grandparents have vanilla waver because my grandparents had it too. Yeah. Why did they like them so much? Was that the only cookie they had for a long time? Maybe. I don't know. You need them to make banana pudding.
Starting point is 00:40:55 Maybe that's what it's keeping them alive. Oh, you do? Yeah, you stick them in there. Oh, okay. Yeah, maybe that's what it is. Hey, the NFL playoffs start Saturday. Starting point is 00:46:20 Fred Durst. What's he do now? He looks old, doesn't he? He's still in Limp Biscuit. He's got, that's got to be a wig he's wearing, right? He looks like the dude from the Big Lobowski. He looks like Jeff Ritches. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:31 He's got, they still, Limp Biscuit's still a thing? Oh, yeah. Yeah, they played louder than life a couple of years ago. Wow. He got mad and made him turn off the big scriments. screens on the side so nobody in the back can see why do you do that just because he's a jerk i guess because he can he's like we're not going to play till you turn off the screens did you hear uh did you watch the the first raw last night saw Hulk Hogan saw the highlight saw Hogan come out and get booed
Starting point is 00:46:58 by everybody ohgan just came out and got booed like got booed first of all Hogan can barely walk you want to feel old watch Hulk Hogan man wrestlers age tough except Jimmy Hart who looked amazing Yeah, Jimmy Hart did not deserve to get booed. 81 years old. Dude looks the exact same he did when he was 31. I don't get that one at all. I don't either. Do you know who Jimmy Hart is, Ryan, the mouth of the South?
Starting point is 00:47:24 Oh, yes. That's what I would watch with him and Tojo Yamamoto and Roddy Roddy Popper. Well, he still looks the same as he did back. There's no way. Yes. He looks the exact same now at 81 as he did then. But Hogan comes out and like, I guess he's selling. some beer now. It's called real American
Starting point is 00:47:44 beer, which is like ridiculous. He comes out and they just boo him. And it wasn't like, he wasn't trying to get booed. They were just like, get out. He was like, I love you guys. And they were like,
Starting point is 00:47:59 boo. Yeah, he goes, one of the things that has never changed is how much you love me and the whole crowd goes so why were they booing him? I mean, he's got a tough background like you just have to google some stuff he's done plus he was in l a la and he was just
Starting point is 00:48:18 he's in l a he was big but i mean part of it's probably like he you know he spoke for trump at the convention but you know the undertaker is a huge trump guy and he got cheered right i think it's just hogan like just i mean we don't need to go into all of it but you know before a guy was so beloved like the biggest most loved wrestler on the planet back in the eight 80s and 90s. Now everybody seems to hate him. I mean, and he did not see it coming, you could tell. Yeah, he was shaking. He was shaking. And that dude's been a performer for 50 years, and he was shaken. So now, of course, it's wrestling. They need to make him a bad guy, right? Like, they need
Starting point is 00:48:57 to have him, now he's got to go the other way. I don't think he could walk down the aisle. I mean, that's why I just kept him there. He just came through and stopped because it was clear like he couldn't walk. But I mean, probably shouldn't have had him debut in L.A. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Maybe in, like, I don't know, Texas. That's probably not, you know, if you're going to debut like Lizzo, maybe you don't put her in, maybe you don't put her in Mississippi or Alabama. I don't know if it was the best place to debut.
Starting point is 00:49:27 All right. So today, we're going to open. What is going on? What is going on? Is it a dog kennel? Are you torturing dogs? What has happened? They fell in the pool.
Starting point is 00:49:35 Something must be outside. They're going crazy. Do you need to go look at it? That sounds awful. It must be a road. I can go yell at him. Can you all hear that at home? They can hear it.
Starting point is 00:49:49 I mean, I know Shannon and I can hear it, but. What is that? I don't know. There's probably a dog out in my front yard or a cat. That sounds like about six dogs. That does not sound like they're seeing a dog. That sounds like something bad. Yeah, that's normal.
Starting point is 00:50:07 That's normal? Yeah. That's how you live? When another animal comes in our front yard. I will say this. I've been watching my cul-de-sac, and one of my neighbors whose car has not moved, got out and did not come back, so they must have made it. So I think I'm feeling a lot better about making it.
Starting point is 00:50:25 There you go. They cleared a path. Yeah, they did what we told you at the beginning. You should do that everybody got mad at Shannon and I about, which is why don't you get out of your house? Oh, I want to get out of my house. All right. So speaking to getting out of the house, the KS bar is opening at 3. The game is at 7.
Starting point is 00:50:42 Our pre-game is at 4.30. We need to make a decision. Are we going to do the pregame at the bar? Do you feel like you can get there or should we do it at home? Can I try it after the show is over here and let you know if I made it out? What do you mean try it? I mean, we need to like, we need to just say. Well, I think after seeing what my neighbor just did, I think I'm good.
Starting point is 00:51:01 Okay, so we're going to do the pregame show then at 430 at the bar. You're up for it. I'm up for it. Okay. Now the game is at seven. Here's what I'm going to say to all of you all. Like if you want to get out of your house and watch the game, I'm going to at least watch the first half there until I get nervous.
Starting point is 00:51:20 Then you go shower. And it probably, look, we probably won't have a ton of people because of the weather. But come out and watch it with us. It can be like a we're tired of being in our house. Come watch the game. Are you up for it, right? Yeah. If I make it to the pregame show, I'm not leaving.
Starting point is 00:51:37 Yeah. Okay, so you're just going to stay there. I'll probably just go to stay there. Do we need to call Amos and Chelek to send you home after the game? That's not a bad idea because I'm sure there's Uber drivers that have four-wheel drive. Okay, all right. So we'll be there at 430. You're in.
Starting point is 00:51:51 I'm in. Okay. All right. So let's talk about how we feel. Cats in Georgia. Looks like right now we're a one and a half point favorite. What do you think is going to happen tonight, Ryan? You think we get a victory?
Starting point is 00:52:04 I think it's a close game from start to finish. And I think it's a rock fight. It's going to be a tough battle. but I feel like Kentucky, they got to win one of these two, and I feel like this is the one they're going to get. Yeah, this is tough. I mean, you know, we're playing a top 10 pick here. We played a top 10 pick earlier this year with Cooper Flagg,
Starting point is 00:52:25 and he played really well against us until the last couple plays. This is another, like, can our bigs defend? They really have struggled defensively. I mean, especially against guys, you know, the Ohio State, Those guys owned us on the boards. Honestly, Ryan, Florida owned us on the boards, too. I mean, we won, but they owned us on the glass. Now you got this team that's got, with Ais and O'Neill,
Starting point is 00:52:51 you're talking about a dude who's going to be, he's 6-11, I think. He's going to be a superstar. We got to have Amari Williams. We got to have Andrew Carr. We got to have these guys. We got to have these guys, Ryan, play much better on the defensive end than they did in the last game. And that's what concerns, I think, all of us, is we've seen us, our post players, our fours and five,
Starting point is 00:53:13 not be the best defenders at times. Amari Williams can, but he can't guard two guys. But he's also got his get his hands up and rebound. Yeah. I mean, he, and he's actually averaging a decent amount of rebounds, but I feel like he lets other guys get rebounds on him all the time. They got to box out. You know, we go back to that free throw against Florida.
Starting point is 00:53:34 Again, it didn't cost us, but he just let that dude get the rebound on him. on the free throw. Yeah, and I think that's why I think Pope took him out and, like, you woke him up and hey, man, you've got to do this or you are not going to play. You like our chances tonight, Shannon, since you won't be on the pregame. Yeah, but, you know, with Kobe Brea being out, it does make me a little nervous. Georgia's going to try to slow the game down.
