It is Kentucky Sports Radio Wednesday, January 8th on a snowy day here in Lexi did in Kentucky. Got another inch of snow, and so things are back to a little hazardous, but we're here at the KS Bar and Grill. It's Wings Day. You know what?
Starting point is 00:03:42 I mean, if you're going to leave your house, you might as well get wings and see us. We're here. It's just us today right now, you know? Because people are scared of snow in this state. Why are they so scared? Just get out and get in it. I don't know if that's official advice.
Starting point is 00:03:58 Yeah, that's probably not the best advice. Why don't you shut up? Clark's Pubb and Shop phone line, take five, nine. 280-2287. I'm just kidding. Text machine, A-Vision Glass, 772-7-7-4-7-4 in this edition, sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office, you call T.J. He'll make them pay. Guys, it's, you know, we woke up. More snow.
Starting point is 00:04:17 It's supposed to be negative 41 degrees here tomorrow, scientifically. And then Friday and Saturday, more snow. Yeah, we got, I didn't know if we're supposed to have more snow last night. I woke up. There's another inch of snow here. Georgetown had like two inches of snow. They're talking like another eight inches maybe on Friday. Whoa, what?
Starting point is 00:04:38 I think you're exactly. Jim Caldwell put out a map this morning, and you know Larry loves Jim Caldwell. Yeah. Again, he said three to eight inches. But why are you believe in Jim Caldwell? Because Larry does. Okay, but that was when he was in Hazard. He's moved to Lexington.
Starting point is 00:04:53 Now he's big time. Yeah, but he got the promotion to the big leagues. He had better technology in hazard. Oh, he did. WIMT had more Doppler. I just went to Jim's profile. Oh, why am I blocked by Jim WKYD? Oh, you're blocked by Jim.
Starting point is 00:05:05 Oh, I'm blocked for a bottle and I'm blocked. Jim. I'm blocked by Meteor-Mobile. Wow, you're getting blocked. I was going to see this map or model, Ron, was talking about. Jim Caldwell, why are you blocking Drew? Yeah. Well, you probably deserved it.
Starting point is 00:05:16 I can't think of anything I could have done to Jim Caldwell. You probably made a smart, and you know what? Larry's not going to like you anymore because he liked Jim Caldwell. How am I going to know the forecast? I don't know. So you're saying eight inches. Yeah. Well, first of all, three to eight.
Starting point is 00:05:29 Yeah. You're just airing on the side of eight. Yeah. I've got the map here if you want me to read it. How do you read a map? This is what he posted right here. I'm interested to see how he read. Okay, so he posted a paragraph.
Starting point is 00:05:41 He said, I'm just going to read it. Snow showers are cranking out some decent totals. I'm going to be very real with y'all here. This is one of the roughest wintery periods in years. I'm talking about significant events. These snow showers today, the system can bring us our region anywhere from three to eight inches. There you go. And then another one may come Monday and Tuesday.
Starting point is 00:06:01 with a few more inches. Can you believe that? This is crazy. This is wild. Look at Mario. He looks like the end of times are coming. You know what, though? I like it.
Starting point is 00:06:10 If you're going to have snow, just have it. I'd rather have the snow than the ice. Our roads, I think, in Lexington, were worse today than they were yesterday. It's all right. It's fine. It's all a mentality. Which means you could have come to work yesterday then. Yes, because he's here today.
Starting point is 00:06:23 That's exactly right. If it was worse today than yesterday, why weren't you here yesterday? When we did the show yesterday, I hadn't got out of my house yet. By the way, his neighbor was here at the house. the bar yesterday, Shannon? Yeah. And he said that when he was listening to Ryan complain, he was cackling. He said, you know Ryan's driveway is like three inches long.
Starting point is 00:06:40 He said he could have got, he was like he could have gotten out so easy. Yeah. But when I was listening, I almost wrote that on KS board because I also know Ryan's drive. Is your driveway even the length of your car? You're kind of like on the sidewalk. You said you couldn't get out of your driveway. It's like you don't have a driveway. Well, you know, it's a driveway, a typical driveway going into a two-car garage.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Yeah, about the, you know. But it's not like this big avenue. It's not like my driveway where you have to go up on top of that hill. There's no way I can get up your driveway. Yeah, well, either way, 859-28027, Kentucky loses last night to Georgia. Ryan and I watched a lot of the game here. It was, you know, similar, not as bad as the Ohio State game, but similar in the sense that got behind, kind of stayed behind.
Starting point is 00:07:31 the whole time, one time cut it to five in the second half, but really stayed down nine to 13 most of the most of the game. And, you know, my take, I think there's, there are two kinds of Kentucky fans, in my opinion. The fans that watch that game and say, we got out tuffed, we got out-physicaled, we didn't deserve to win, and then the kind who say we got cheated, the officials were terrible. I think, you know, there were some officials. errors. But I also think we just got beat and we got out physicaled and out tuffed. And it's a little worrisome because it's about the third or fourth time that's happened.
Starting point is 00:08:13 Yeah. The third time. It's the second true road game at Clemson, at Georgia. And I felt like in both games, man, the defense of the opposing team just took us out of rhythm. You know, like you said, you and I watched the first half here. That was hard to watch. A lot of turnovers. The second half was worse with all the foul calls.
Starting point is 00:08:28 I mean, that second half went like an hour. It took forever. But, you know, they had six turnovers the whole Florida game. I think they had like seven in the first half. How many two footers do they miss in the first half? I mean, it was getting to give Georgia credit. They definitely took Kentucky completely out of rhythm and took them away with what they wanted to do.
Starting point is 00:08:45 In the first half, Lamont Butler played well, or we might not have scored. You're right. And then in the second half, you know, it was just a sloppy fest. And we, again, offensive rebounds killed us. Like, I mean, we gave up, we've given up 15. offensive rebounds a game for two straight games you're just not going to win like that no and your thing about physical or the refs i'm down to talk about those refs forever i mean they were horrible but kentucky lost that game because they were bad at basketball not because the refs yeah
Starting point is 00:09:14 i mean Andrew car he has had some critical buckets for this team he's a good player but he wanted no part of somtile they were battling inside at one point instead of blocking out he would turn and like just face guard them and use both hands just to try to keep that was doing something so you brought that up and again you're right i mean this team wouldn't be good without andrew car so none of this is to say he's not he's not a good player but we've talked about and i talked about this on the show when you play basketball mario uh i think you played once or twice you know they teach you as a big guy finger elbow butt yeah right that's how you that's how you uh rebound yep you finger you elbow and you butt like that okay i just rammed into ryan for those of you
Starting point is 00:09:57 on the radio. But you had to demonstrate what to do. It looks like Andrew Carr only got the finger part, because he just pushes the person. And, of course, one time it ended up in that melee that got on the floor. But, like, we don't box out. I mean, we do not box out. And then when the other team is more aggressive and we don't box out, they get the rebounds. And Amari Williams and Andrew Carr are two of the worst people I've ever seen it boxing out.
Starting point is 00:10:23 Oway and some of those guys will box out, but then guys can jump over them because they're little. I don't, our bigs do not box out. And Mario Williams is the one to puzzle me. I mean, he's a big, strong dude, man. He could be able to clear a lot of space down there, but I don't know unless maybe the fundamentals he was taught growing up, he just is this not ingrained in him when he gets out there. It was odd. You think they don't teach box it out in London? Maybe they
Starting point is 00:10:45 don't. Yeah, maybe so. I bet they do. That's elementary stuff. Okay. I bet they teach it there. Yeah, also one thing that I think, I don't I don't want this to come off as a complaint about officiating, but it seemed like on one in you know, Georgia was allowed to wrestle, and if Amari did anything, he was getting called. Not that Amari was playing great. That sounds like you're complaining about a fissue.
Starting point is 00:11:04 No, when he was backing up the guard, that was pretty horrible. We can at least call that. Amari was being physical in that instance. The guard fell down. He got called for that tiki-tack foul. It went right the other way, and Somto, to his credit, he's getting away with it and playing well, Sompto was just beating people up. You're, you're complaining about officiating. I'm genuinely talking about Sompto-owned Kentucky. That's why they lost. But to give Mari one little bounce of credit. The one time I did show him show some fight, he got caught. But that was a foul. What Amari did was a foul. He ran that guy out of bounds. You're not allowed to do that. You're allowed to establish position. You're not allowed to put. I'm not, listen, don't get me wrong.
Starting point is 00:11:40 There are a lot of calls that I think were wrong, and I think Georgia got more calls in Kentucky. But on that one, that's a foul. He ran that guy out of bounds. You can't do that. You can establish position, but you can't back somebody up. Most of the time, Somto, got the ball. He just out-muscled him. I mean, he just, and we didn't box them out. So I can't really, I can't really complain. Now, I will complain
Starting point is 00:12:06 about the fact that they got some calls on shots that we didn't get, which led them to shoot more free throws. But for people who were acting like the game was just ridiculous, they called only, they only called five more fouls on us than them. In total. The difference was
Starting point is 00:12:22 there's were shooting fouls often. And part of that is, our guys, don't want contact when they go to the basket they don't they move like when they shoot layups they move away from the contact right yeah Georgia jumps into it and when you get referees like that you're gonna go to the foul line right I want to talk oh so did new all and so I mean like you're they want the contact and when you get trigger happy refs then you're gonna go to the line I'm gonna ask you this then because since we're talking about Jack Givens had something on the show
Starting point is 00:12:54 that he's getting a lot of play where he says say that if you're the more physical team, a lot of times that'll lead you to get more calls. Yes, he is 100% right about that. When you get officials that have decided to call it close, and you don't know that until the game starts, the more physical team is going to get the calls. They just are because they put themselves into the contact. Jack's, I listen to the end of the game, and Jack knows more basketball than all of us combined. Jack said, we're not going to get calls if we avoid contact.
Starting point is 00:13:25 And we avoid All of our guys, except maybe O-A, avoid contact. They do not want to get hit, all of them. And in a game like that, you're going to get hurt by that. I think you're right. I think O'A is the only guy that's not afraid to take contact and still go ahead and try to finish.
Starting point is 00:13:42 But yet it seemed like last night when the offense got out of sink, ball got in his hands. He was taking it straight to the hoop, you know. I think a rhythm. I think a combination, though, Drew, of all of what we're talking about, including your thing about the calls, was in that little sequence that I think lost us again. The game had been cut to five, right?
Starting point is 00:14:00 They have the ball. They come down, they miss a shot. Carr does not box out Sompto. Sompto gets the rebound. Carr then they call the flagrant foul. I don't know if it was a flagrant. It probably wasn't a play on the ball. Sompto still scores.
Starting point is 00:14:17 My man, if you're going to get a flagrant, you can't let him score. True. Right, you can't get an and one on a flagrant. Sompto misses the free throw, right? But then they get the ball, but then they miss the shot. So actually it didn't cost us any points. We come down to court, Oway has a wide open three in the corner. If he hits that, Ryan, I think it cuts it to four.
Starting point is 00:14:40 First of all, if car boxes out or if Oway hits it, Oway misses it, then they call that flop on the offside rebound, which was not a foul. The Jackson Robinson, right, when Blue Cane goes flying and acts like, he gets that would have been a highlight of the game we'd won we could make fun of that that was hilarious that was hilarious but it was also a big call because then blue cane comes and makes the free throws and it's a nine point game and we never really after that drew had a shot oh not at all on the marie thing I was I'm not complaining about the ref even though I think you're trying to put that on me I'm saying that's the one time I saw a mari fight and that's what we got out of it
Starting point is 00:15:12 it's like he looked up and thought he had a chance to get physical because he had a mismatch and it didn't turn out to anything otherwise all the guys were getting shoved around Brandon Garrison even came in with some energy. He actually thought he played pretty well. He's such a, I actually yelled, well, I can't say it on the radio, a little heck yeah, but that three-pointer he took that hit the glass. That was ridiculous. And then did a dud, Adam Stratton on the website compared it to a cornhole bag,
Starting point is 00:15:38 getting the board just kind of sliding in. He had so many moments where I'm yelling, what are you doing? But then he had 13 points, 5 of 8 from the field, had a 3. But he's another one. He was trying in there, but they just, the whole team was no match. where he ended up dribbling coast to coast, and it looked like it went off six of his body parts. But then he made the layup, and so you were like, okay.
Starting point is 00:15:56 He looked at Lamont Butler twice, though. Lamont wide open, calling for the ball, and he just shook him off, and he dribbled and turned it over. So it's like he will give such a good thing, and then the very next possession, turns it over, it turns it over, something takes it away. I want to tell the story about that Brandon Garrison three-pointer.
Starting point is 00:16:11 It hit the back and went, thud. You put your head down, and then you didn't even know. I didn't know it went in. You looked up, like, what happened? When I saw it thud, I was like, well, He missed. I looked down on my phone. And it went in and everybody's clapping.
Starting point is 00:16:23 You're like, what happened? Did that go in? No way that went in. Well, it did. I don't know how. One more thing that I just, this goes to the aggression of not wanting to contact. These guys don't take layups under the goal if they're going to be contested. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:40 They get the ball under the goal and kick out. The only guy that takes it up is Oway. And he got blocked twice for doing that on dunks. But at least he's taking it up. In the first half, they had three or four layups where they saw someone coming and they passed it out. They do not like to take contact. And Ryan, I think that frustrates me, especially in a game like that where you're going to get to go to the line if you'll take contact. You're right.
Starting point is 00:17:07 There was at least four times, I think, in the first half where they had the ball in the lane. Instead of maybe your muscle and try to take the contact and get a bucket, they kick it out. But it's not kicking out for a better shot. it's kicking out because you don't want to get fouled. There's a long list of things that went wrong. We've hit a lot of them. But the moment I knew the game was over was in the first half, Jackson Robinson threw it to Travis Perry in the corner when I think Jackson could have
Starting point is 00:17:29 dunked it. He was under the round. He was already 0 for 3 from that point. When I saw he didn't want to layup, I thought we were not getting anything from Jackson Robinson tonight if he's not taking open layups. Yeah, and we did. There's a lot more to get to on it. We'll take your calls.
Starting point is 00:17:44 859-280-20-287. Frustrating game, but this is going to be. be the road in the SEC. Do you think, well, think about this. Do you think these guys can win a tough road game? That's one of the things I think we have to figure out because we've got a bunch of them coming up. We'll take a break and be right back.

First of all, a big shout-up to Meg Suttles, who sent me, I guess this is for Christmas, but I just got it, KSR playing cards.
Starting point is 00:22:46 They're really cool. Shannon, you would like it. You are the queen, by the way. way in your uh in your uh dorothy outfit in your dorothy outfit the joker Ryan is uh he's the king be proud of who you sell yeah I'm the ace with the picture of me as a kid but then they also have two mimosas yes right three candles uh four white swim tags these people know what I mean five sister jeans six toilet stores seven Kentucky Joe phrases eight calculators which is Ryan working on his hopefully nine banners and then 10 cracker barrels versus outbacks.
Starting point is 00:23:25 So a big shout out to Meg, like a lot of show references in there. They were very cool. I like the Joker to at the end, too. You got a picture of Joker Phillips. Yeah, Joker Phillips. So that was nice of Meg. Thank you to Meg. Very cool.
Starting point is 00:23:37 To Meg. Of course. There's no hiding that she's a long time listener with those references. There are some deep cuts. Those are some deep cuts. So one person writes, Matt, you are completely wrong. We win that game if the officials call it fair. people want Kentucky to lose.
Starting point is 00:23:52 I mean, okay, if that's what you want to say, we lost by 13. I don't think that's the officiating. But, I mean, look, Georgia got the calls, but you're going to get calls at home. You just are. And I agree with Jack. When you initiate physicality, you're going to get more calls. So there's only two games in UK history, or I said this last night, that I think we lost because of the officiating.
Starting point is 00:24:17 One is a game that got you and I soon. Yes. We lost that game because of the officiate. We should have been the national champs at you. And the second is when they called the technical on Isaac Humphreys for slamming the ball. Because that wasn't a technical, and it was the end of the game, and he didn't need to call it, and we would have won without it. Beyond that, there calls that bother me, but like, when you lose by double digits, you lost by double digits.
Starting point is 00:24:41 Yeah. No, last night the officials were horrible, but when I'm listing the reasons Kentucky lost, they're not in my top five. I might start with Jackson Robinson. Kobe Bray hit 1-3. You got out rebound. So does that worry about Jackson-Rob? Yes, very much so.
Starting point is 00:24:53 Like, we've focused on the officials. And again, I got 10 more examples how bad they were. But that is a very, very tiny issue from last night. Kentucky wouldn't have won that game if there weren't officials in the arena. Kentucky was bad at basketball last night. Both those things can be true. But are you worried about Jackson-Robbins? Yes, very much so.
Starting point is 00:25:08 I mean, that's Twight. Clemson, he played a little better, didn't shoot it well. But when games get tight, somebody puts a little forearm on him, and it's getting physical. He completely shies away, it seems, and we have a couple examples, but it's enough that I'm worried moving forward because there's no easy games left. That's going to be every game. He's got to play better.
Starting point is 00:25:27 I mean, we won't be great without him playing better. I mean, we just won't. This roster is built around him being the star, and if he's not the star, we just don't have enough, Ryan, to beat good teams without him playing. At least he doesn't have to pay great every game, but he's got to play well. Agreed.
Starting point is 00:25:48 If you want to be the guy or if you're supposed to be the guy, when games like last night, you need to be the guy. Remember, you know, we saw this first game, second year of Duke. He just disappeared in big game.
Starting point is 00:25:58 He's only played really well in one big game, and that was Gonzaga. He played really well against Gonzaga. But besides that, against these good teams, he has struggled this year. If not for saving him against Gonzaga,
Starting point is 00:26:11 because he did save him, that was when they were thin, he moved to point guard. The marquee games, he's almost best. a complete no-show across the board and all of them. And he missed those three. He had three open threes at the beginning, and the last one was an air ball.
Starting point is 00:26:24 And that's when you were like, uh-oh. Uh-oh. I mean, when he shot that air ball, that really was an uh-oh to me. I don't get it, man. You know, it's not like he's a rookie. He's an experienced player, played a lot of minutes. And when you, like I said, when you're supposed to be the guy, teams just, you know, need you to do something.
Starting point is 00:26:41 And like he regresses, like, is a non-factor. Now, I said when Pope Kay, that if you look at his history, this is what he has, which is he'll beat great teams and then he'll sometimes throw up a dud. Is that just what this year is going to be like? We're going to beat some great teams and then we're going to just throw up duds. It's seeming that way. And honestly, if we go back to October, I mean, this is kind of what we knew all along.
Starting point is 00:27:08 I think we all just got so excited about Duke and Clemson that we just thought, well, we've got to beat Georgia, but we knew physical teams in the SEC we're going to give them a problem. We didn't know Georgia was going to be this good before the year, but that's the team they played last night is what we knew would be an issue. So, yes, it's a concern, but also didn't we all kind of know this is what we were going to get this season? Yeah, but now, I mean, you know, it doesn't make it feel any better. I feel like I did after the Clemson game, which is, all right, but if you could go beat Gonzaga, it'll be all right. So if you can go beat Mississippi State, it'll be all right.
Starting point is 00:27:40 I don't know if we will, but then again, I didn't think we'd beat Gonzaga and we did. Yeah, I agree. I'm telling you, I watched some of Mississippi State in Vanderbilt last night. Mississippi State is good. I mean, they're really good, and it's going to be tough. But you could say we're really good. I mean, Florida just beat Tennessee by 30, and we beat them. How about Tennessee only scored 46 points, and we scored over 50 in each half against Florida?
Starting point is 00:28:02 I didn't obviously watch any of that game because we were playing, but that's crazy. Couldn't they have like 15 and halftime? 15 and halftime. Yeah, I mean, that's, they're the number. It's the third worst loss for a number one team in the country ever. That's going to say, when's the last time? the number one team got beat that bad. It's the third loss ever, ever.
Starting point is 00:28:18 Third worst lost by the number one team ever. Can we talk just a second about the broadcast? Yes. I mean, so first of all, we were in here, and the sound, I thought something was wrong with this bar. Because I was like, it's not loud. I can't get any, I turned it up as loud as it could be, and there just wasn't any atmosphere.
Starting point is 00:28:41 And then people were riding me and saying, it's like that everywhere. It sounded like the announcers were announcing through a 10 cup in a closet in Nevada. And then the sound would get loud, soft, loud, soft. That was like a high school production of that game last night. Am I wrong? You nailed it. There was a dunk in the first half.
Starting point is 00:29:05 I turned Abby and said, as soon as he dunked, it sounded like they cut to a high school feed because it just got so much louder. The guy screaming had like the, the, the, muffled noise where you're too close to the mic, and then it went soft again, and then there'd be a big play, and it's like someone's in a lab to turn it up the volume and then turning it back. So I think what's happening is I think that the SEC and ESPN, the games that are on ESPN are being broadcast by an ESPN crew, but the SEC network games, as I understand it, are being
Starting point is 00:29:34 broadcast by local student things at the school where you are. So I think we got like a Georgia student production. The announcers are from ESPN, but everything else, and you can tell. It sounds awful during the game. Yeah, each school's got their own broadcasting department and the broadcasting that does all their events. And I think they do. They use that homeschool broadcasting. I watch random games like Seattle versus, you know, UC Irvine.
Starting point is 00:30:04 And they sound better than that game did last night. Like, they got to do something. That was awful. sounded like it sounded like a high school game and that had to be the stream because the commercials were loud no problem with the commercials it was it had to be the thing you can't let a bunch of college kids produce a nationally televised SEC game we'll be right back's KsR welcome back it is Kentucky Sports Radio 859-28027 what is that what is that Alan color why does he tag me in all of his tweets for his show I don't know he just wrote no filter no one sorry
Starting point is 00:30:47 KY Sports Radio. Ha ha ha. It's not even English. What does that mean, Shannon? No filter, no one. Sorry, KY, sports radio, ha, ha.
Starting point is 00:30:59 What that means is please retweet me so people will see you. Yeah, I'm not doing it, Alan. I guess I did mention it here. But, I mean, that's not even English. I like Alan, but like, you don't have to tag me on all your show, on all your show tweets. I love Alan,
Starting point is 00:31:13 and we'll go to my grave, calling him a good friend, but he does tag me like every day where he's real promo. And it's all no filter! Well, we learned that you can remove the tag, right? No filter! Are there people accusing him of having a filter? All right, I'm done.
Starting point is 00:31:30 I just don't, you know. Just do what Mark Weinberg did to you. Take the tag off, right? Yeah, he takes the tag off every time. Yeah. He tweeted the tweet. Now it's on there twice. What?
Starting point is 00:31:41 He retweeted his tweet. He retweeted his own tweet? Yeah, it's on their tweet. Now you're up there twice. Alan Cutter. Retweeted it on color. But he just tweeted it. I know.
Starting point is 00:31:48 So he retweeted, he's emphasizing it. He retweeted twice the tweet he just tweeted. All right, whatever. No filter. No. He's just emphasizing that there's no filter. One person writes, Matt, do you think, you say Jackson Robinson, hey guys, guys, how about Kobe Brea?
Starting point is 00:32:07 Is he the reason we win or lose based on making threes? He's only made four in our three losses. I think that's a combination to both of them not playing well in big games. Kobe Brea had, you know, the two road games that combined three, three-pointers at Clemson and Georgia. You're not winning that way. I can give Kobe Brea a pass for last night. If he was sick and they weren't even sure he was going to play. That's true.
Starting point is 00:32:28 I can give him a pass. And I think Jack or Tom, one of them kind of hinted that maybe there were a couple other guys were a little under the weather too. It might be like a bug going around. Well, maybe that's the case, but there's, it was very obvious. Like the only guys that showed up to play last night to really show up to play was Lamont Bueller. O'Away. It's a lot of the other guys didn't even show up. See, I think Otega played hard, but I think he played poorly.
Starting point is 00:32:52 Yes. I think Lamont played hard. I think Brandon Garrison played hard. And I don't want to say, I don't think any of the guys didn't play hard. I just don't think they were in it. Like they weren't physical enough in the game. I don't think anybody was, like, dogging it. I just don't think, you know, it's just not physical.
Starting point is 00:33:09 Just had a bad game. There are two stats that really, I think, that standout showed how bad it was, not just because they were getting beat up if you watch the game, but they had more turnovers than assist for the second time all season. They were number one in the country going in the game. The other time was at Clemson. So both times, both road games. And then you hit six total three-pointers.
Starting point is 00:33:29 One of them was Brandon Garrison, and one of them was Ansley Almanor. When you get four threes from everyone else, you're not winning games. I will say Kobe Brea had three go in and out. I mean, he had three go in and out. And it might be a different game if those three go in instead of in and out. And like the Clemson game, on the other end, they went and banked in some crap. We've got guys rattling in and out. Dude, the bank three.
Starting point is 00:33:52 I mean, that drives me crazy. And that, by the way, there were two swings like that were big. Into the first half, Kobe Brea gets an open look that could have cut it to seven, in and out. They come down, hit a three. We're down 13. That could have been a seven-point game and since it's 13. Then, in the one you're talking about, they bank in a three. We come down, Brea, in and out.
Starting point is 00:34:15 Both of them. You just sit there and go, well, maybe they're sitting in your night when that happens. Who's up first? Roger. Roger. Roger. Thanks for taking my call. Begin with the way they played last night was pathetic.
Starting point is 00:34:31 And the referees didn't help us, but that wasn't the reason we lost the ball game. When is this team going to get in the gym and learn how to rebound? Fifth year seniors. And another thing I like to say, Kobe Bray, I should. be starting over Robinson. At least he will shoot the ball and make a lot more than Robinson never think about making.
Starting point is 00:34:53 Yeah, I think the reason he doesn't start is on the defense van. I appreciate the call because he's not. But, you know, if Robinson's not going to score then you're going to, you know, Robinson came off the bench at BYU and was their leading score. So maybe, you know, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:35:08 I mean, the starting lineup to me, I mean, we were ahead the first 10 minutes of game. So I don't think it was the starting lineup, necessarily that was the issue. A lot of times when you bench a guy at this point, you worry about his confidence. Especially a guy like that, though. But with Robinson, he's at least done it. So if you're going to try it, that's one guy.
Starting point is 00:35:27 I think that would be able to accept the coaching well. I'm not saying they should do it. But across the board, his stats were better last year at BYU, everything you look at as a six man. Maybe he'd be open to it. I don't know if it'd work, but if there's one guy that might be willing to try it, it's a guy who's six a year. That's a good point. I mean, he's done it before.
Starting point is 00:35:42 That's a fair point. You know, Lamont Butler did everything he possibly could last night to help it. He's the heart and soul of this team, man. But he did have, I do have to say, we have a tendency when we get down in the second half, we try to go one-on-one, which is not this team's strength. Nope. And Butler had three straight possessions. He tried to get to the rim, missed a layup and got blocked twice.
Starting point is 00:36:08 Like, it was three straight possessions where he tried to just take a guy, and I'm not, I get it. He's trying to make something happen, but I don't think, Drew, that's what we're good at. No, and that just showed how bad the offense was gotten to that point. I thought what Butler did best last night, not that it mattered because they lost by so much. But defensively, he had four steals, and they were pretty impressive steals. I mean, he went in there and just took those away all four times. It was some of the best defense he's played.
Starting point is 00:36:34 Yeah, he didn't play good defense. Just didn't pan out in the end. You're right. Who's up next? Joseph. Joseph. How are you, Joseph? Morning, guys.
Starting point is 00:36:42 I'm tired this morning. A long game last night. It was two hours and 35 minutes, by the way. Oh, the reviews. Let me say this. They got to stop with these reviews anytime it might have been a foul to the face. Like, there were like eight reviews. That's what in the second half.
Starting point is 00:37:00 That's way too many. The only foul, in my opinion, that should have been reviewed was the car pulling him down. I understand why you review that one. But all the rest of them were he might have gotten touched in the face. Like, you got to stop. They reviewed an out of bounds. I think they got it right after reviewing it. Yeah, I mean, you got to stop that.
Starting point is 00:37:16 Go ahead, man. Anyway, the point of the call is... Sorry, Shannon. I'm sorry, sir, your phone, I don't know, must have been in the snow or something. We got to, it couldn't. It was breaking up. And there were a couple times, like, Kentucky were trying to get back in it, and then the review would, like, kill all the momentum, you know?
Starting point is 00:37:35 The reviews were just, it's too many. And then they get in this habit, I think, when they do it, then they feel like, the coach is like, well, why don't you review this? Why don't you review this? And then they feel like they have to review everything, which takes forever. Yeah, oh, Doug Schaels, an apology.
Starting point is 00:37:47 I've made fun of him forever for being the review guy. But that crew last night was at the monitor, most of the game. Yeah, a little bit of a change real quick. But have you been watching these fires in California? I saw an image today. I didn't know it was that bad until this morning. Yeah, they said 80-mile-per-hour gust of winds have made it. And, like, they don't know which direction it's going to go.
Starting point is 00:38:07 The Los Angeles Fire Department asked for, like, if you're a fireman in the cities around and you're not doing anything, will you come home? help. That's a little worrisome because it's like, oh no, if you don't even have, it looks, it looks off. I mean, it looks scary. It looks like something out of a movie. I saw a picture from a flight coming into LAX and it looked like Armageddon out their window out towards wherever the fires are, whatever direction that would be. And then Steve Gutenberg's out on the road trying to help people. It's like Steve Gutenberg are official spokesman for the fires. I mean, I, you know, he was, but they said people got
Starting point is 00:38:40 so scared and you understand this, they got so scared that they just jumped out of their car. and went running and left their car in the street. But then the problem was people can't get out because you've blocked the roads with your car. So they were taking bulldozers. Did you see this? And just because Gutenberg was like, if you're going to leave your car, at least leave the keys in it. They weren't doing that. They took bulldozers and just bulldoze the cars off the road.
Starting point is 00:39:08 So like all these, just like there's piles of cars on the side of the road because people just had gotten up. But imagine how terrified you have to be. to jump out of your car and start running on the interstate. Yeah, they said they're moving so fast. It's three football fields a minute are being burned up. Three football fields a minute. I mean, that is crazy. It is crazy because those strong winds are just,
Starting point is 00:39:30 there's no way you can't even drop the fire stuff on the flame because the winds just blow the stuff everywhere. You know what I mean? Yeah, man, fire. Scary. Yeah, because these are like neighborhoods. This is not like out in the, Canadian wilderness. This is like neighborhoods.
Starting point is 00:39:48 You're helpless just really relying on the weather to throw you something. What would you do? I saw a thing that there was a guy, Shannon, that said he had to, they told him you have five minutes to get out of your house. Yeah. What would you take? He said, like, like they said, grab some stuff. You got five minutes to get out of your house. So you had five minutes to get out of your house, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:40:08 What are you taking? Pictures and myself. That's it. That's it? That's it. Pictures and yourself. What about you? What are you taking?
Starting point is 00:40:15 I think when you said the first thing, I could probably mind to get grabbed my medicine, my financials, and maybe my hard drive. And I'm walking out with that. Your hard drive. Yeah, on my computer. What's on your hard drive? All my business stuff and personal stuff. So, yeah, I'm taking that. You don't have the cloud?
Starting point is 00:40:29 I'm taking the hard drive. Are you just taking only the hard drive? Yeah, just a hard drive. What about you? They say you got five minutes. Where are you going? I'm going to get my wife, make sure she's out. That's a good start.
Starting point is 00:40:42 You just leaving your dogs in there? Oh, I forgot about my dogs. Yeah, cowboy hat. You just, you, you're going to take the cowboy hat. Yeah, you know, we just bought, it costs a lot of money. That's true. It costs a lot of money. I don't know, I'm not a big items, guys.
Starting point is 00:40:56 Me either. So, I mean, if I saw something on the way out, but nothing comes on my mind, I'd run and make sure I had it. I don't know if this is sad, but like, I don't know if I'd take anything. Like, I've got pictures on my phone now of everyone. But, like, old family photos from. Yeah, I don't know. That's what I'm talking. I think I'd just leave.
Starting point is 00:41:18 I don't know what, I mean, there's stuff I would want to take, but I can't take. I would look stupid carrying a bag of shoes or like, you know, I would look. No, you get to take what you want. It doesn't matter if you look stupid. I know, but I would feel your escape. Yeah, your house is burning. I think I'd just be like, if I'm alive, then I'm okay. Because like, I do sort of live in existence where at any moment I could just get up and go,
Starting point is 00:41:42 and I think it'd be all right. You'd probably want to grab your medicine. Yeah, I would need to get my seizure medication. I would assume, though, if I lost that, someone would give it. Like, I don't feel like if I didn't have my seizure medication, the world would just be like, all right, dude, you're on your own now. I think, yeah, you'd grab that, and your laptop. You know, you'd walk out? We run these PSAs all the time on this show.
Starting point is 00:42:03 You're supposed to have a go bag? You have a go bag? No. Who has a go bag? Well, I think that's what the PSA clearly is working. What is the PSA say? It says, like, if we need to get out in case of a family and brain. emergency, you need to have a bag that has all of the essential stuff. So they want us to have a bag,
Starting point is 00:42:18 like at all times ready to go? It's called your go bag. Does anyone do that? I don't. You have a go bag? What's in the go bag? Shoes? Just an extra pair of clothes? Wow, I didn't even think about having a go bag. Maybe I need a go bag. I need a go bag. It's a little like doomsday, though, if you're like, but then I guess for those people, they probably wish they had a go bag. bad. All right. All right.

Starting point is 00:47:33 No need to be in pain. What's your name, young man? James, you don't need to be in pain. There's no reason to be in pain. I don't think you need to go to court physical therapy. Maybe your dad does. He can be in pain. Court.com.
Starting point is 00:47:46 That's K-O-R-T.com over 70 locations around the state with court.com. Apparently, they call them bugout bags. I guess because you're bugging out because you're scared. Is that what it? But they're called bug out bags. I guess maybe if it was in my area, I might go ahead and put one together to throw my car just in case, but I don't have one like normally.
Starting point is 00:48:07 Apparently they say you need one. One person writes, Matt, I don't think you would need a bag. because don't isn't half of what you owned in the back seat of your car already great point it's a really good point we should change the question for you what if you had five minutes to get out of your car oh then I'm in trouble yeah then I'm really in trouble possessions are you getting then there's a lot of stuff might you know my medical records although they're long gone golf clubs the WrestleMania chair
Starting point is 00:48:31 yeah the WrestleMania chair it's gonna be tough but jar of pickles for Pittsburgh you know the the key to the Somerset key to Somerset speaking of towns did you see what happened in you know in London they had a school a city council meeting it's trend it's it's viral all over the country it's uh people very upset about the shooting yeah and they get up and they you know they have public comment people just used it as a chance to uh they were going at them one guy was looked at the mayor and he's like do you even live here is this something we can watch on it on tic-tok you can like it's like six parts and in one of the one of the parts the guy just looks at the mayor and goes i don't think you live here he was like i do
Starting point is 00:49:16 live here and he was like no you don't and i was like this is this because you know it's one of these things that people are understandably upset about the guy getting shot in his house but now they're like bringing up all the grievances oh that they might have and uh it was quite a quite a scene speaking their piece like uh they definitely are speaking their piece but like where was the old speaker piece you used to that was whitesberg electric county i i do you know i mean i understand why those people upset we talked about it and now it turns out it was city police going into the county which technically they're maybe not even supposed to do and so it's just it's a lot well still you know we've talked about it the fact they did it on middle of the night or late at night when you really you could
Starting point is 00:49:58 have waited until the next morning for a weed eater all this stemmed over a stolen alleged weed eater that they already had captured the guy who did that guy was already in jail that's that's what's crazy who's next shannon let's go to madison Madison how are you you? How you doing, Matt? I'm good. Hope you got enough snow. I got more than I bargained for, I hope you know.
Starting point is 00:50:20 Okay. I got a couple things. You said, I think I read correctly, you said on the post-game show, if we go 12 and 6 in the conference in 8 and 10, we get in the tournament, what seed would you all see us getting? and two, who would we need to root for in the Alabama-South Carolina game? Well, we're getting a little ahead of person. We're off by 13. There's still a lot of games left. I think in general, appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:50:53 I mean, I'm going to be rooting against all the good teams because we want to have a chance to move on. Auburn's winning the SEC, by the way. Last night confirmed it. Yeah. I mean, Auburn's winning the SEC. They may only lose a couple. Like, Auburn's the best team in the country, in my opinion.
Starting point is 00:51:10 opinion. Do you agree with that? Yeah, I caught the tail in last night where Texas tried to find some magic. Auburn won it, but the two full games I've seen at Auburn, they were a little earlier in the year. I mean, it was just unbelievable. Broom is so good. Broome would block a shot, go the other way, dunk on someone, come back, block a shot. He's amazing. And did you see, perfect example of referees doing too much? Broom gets smacked in the face with like a minute and a half to go. Did you see that? He gets smacked in the face. He looks at the referee and is like, Like, he smacked me in the face.
Starting point is 00:51:42 He doesn't call it. So the dude just hits a 14-foot fadeaway jumper. On the way down the court goes, he smacked me in the face, and they gave Broom a technical. Yeah, get him a technical. I mean, that was like, I mean, I'm not taking up for Auburn, but that was like, I hate when referees make a mistake and then punish the player for their mistake. And they showed the replay. Broome didn't cuss him or anything.
Starting point is 00:52:02 He just said he hit me in the face. And he did hit him in the face. He hit him right in the face. Who's next? Mark Anthony. Mark Anthony. How are you? Hey, fellas, good morning.
Starting point is 00:52:12 Matthew, I have to agree with you about the sound, though, yet at the end, but it's been that way forever. If I'm trying to watch Dari Noca and them in the studio, you've got to crank it way up, and then a commercial comes on and blow your head off. They need to fix the damn thing. They got my money, so they need to fix it. I understand. I kind of don't understand how the fouls were 25 to 20,
Starting point is 00:52:36 and yet the free throws were 38 to 19. Yeah, it's aggression. It's our free throws or our fouls were often like, you know, going after loose balls or like getting, you know, getting bumped out on the top of the key. Their fouls were when they went up to shoot, they went into the defender. And like, you know, when referees call that, you have to do it. I encourage you to go back and look if you watch and see on layups how we move away from conduct. and they move towards contact?
Starting point is 00:53:13 Well, it's probably so. And rebounding, we have got to fix. We've just, although the rebounding wasn't, it was like seven rebounds apart, which is not outrageous, but it's just, I mean, when you need to have one, like when we got it down to five
Starting point is 00:53:27 and just could not close it any further because we just couldn't get a rebound. No, you're right. Pope mentioned that on the end. Pope said in big plays, couldn't get the rebound. Appreciate the call. Did you think it was a wall?
Starting point is 00:53:39 Drew, when he slid down the court? Yes. You know, I get you give him a little bit of room to slide. He went half the lane to the court. I mean, there has to become. That was one of the ones where I'm thinking, what are these guys doing tonight? So the rule says you can slide, but you can't flip over.
Starting point is 00:53:57 I thought it looked like he flipped. But still, there has to be like a reasonableness. Like, if you slide from one end of the court like it's a slip and slide, at some point it's got to be a walk, right? And you could see Coach Pope on the sideline was losing his stuff. during that moment. I thought that might get his first technical, but it didn't come. It didn't come. You think he'll get one this year? No. No. Yeah. Mormons don't get technicals. We will take a break. Come back. Hour number two,
