I heard you went to the Transylvania game yesterday. I went to see your beloved Transylvania Pioneers last night. How did that go? Brian Lane had the pioneers playing Hanover, so Josiah and I wanted to go watch the Transylvania.

So is that where he's going to go, Josiah? I don't know. He hasn't decided yet. I talked to him during the U.K. game. Sounds like he's wavering. Yeah. How's he going to decide?

Well, we've got to take your visits, your campus visits. Tell everybody what you told me. I didn't know this was a thing, Shannon. This is, I guess, a new thing they do in colleges. Tell them about what you said. If he just takes an official campus visit to Hanover, he has awarded a scholarship that it gives you $4,000 a year. Just by making.

an official visit. Just by visiting. Just by visiting. And Mount St. Joseph does the same thing. If you come on campus and make a visit, you automatically get this scholarship. So I was shocked. Yeah, things have changed over the years, haven't they? When in the game

last night, did you catch him maybe rooting for Hanover? Did you give any tips? Any direction? Those are very different schools, though. I mean, Hanover's kind of out in the middle and nowhere. Mount St. Joseph is in Cincinnati. So, like, those are the two very different places. Very different. Yeah. So, but I'm telling you, like I said this about Dane,

it's not necessarily the campus, even the team. It's that coach that's recruiting you. And that makes that makes the huge difference with the with the recruiting world. But I'm going to go back to Trancy. Their starting center is one of my former baseball players when he was like five, six, seven years old. So he's a senior. Right. So you feel some, some, um, closeness. I feel the same way by the way about Georgetown. You know, four of my students are on that Georgetown team that is undefeated. Georgetown, number one in the country, 16 and 0, four of my sports law students, including, I think, the best player.

I mean, I don't is, well, I know the best player was in my, in my class. And so I'm going to go watch one of their games here coming up. Let's go. Why don't we do a PSR Georgetown game and a KSR Bexenter game? Let's do it. Let's pick a Georgetown game. I'd like to go and say hi to those, to those young, young, young fellows. they all passed my class, so that's good.

So I think they all, they all did well. Yeah, Georgetown's been number one in the country most of the season, right? They're like really, really good. I know one of the dudes in my class was like a D1 transfer from Jacksonville State. Okay. So I think they're, I think one of them maybe even played at Easter. So let me ask you, Ryan, let's talk about a couple other things. First of all, did you see Danny Hurley last night after Yukon lost?

Another loss for the defending two-time defending champ. That's what, loss number four? It's lost number four, but they have a guy named Caraband or something like that. So you need to see the final play. Yukon's down one. He drives to the basket. They call a foul. He did not get fouled.

You want to talk all ball. Their bodies didn't touch. He did not foul the game. It was a terrible call. So the guy gets two free throws. He's a senior at Yukon. He's never missed two free throws back to back. in his career.

81% shooter. 81% shooter, but has never in two free throws ever missed them back to back. Okay. They're down one. He misses both. So the game, they go off,

Villanova fans going crazy. He's like walking off looking like he's going to cry. I mean, his teammates are like kind of almost carrying him off. So, you know, I watched it. I was watching it live and I felt like, oh, well, kind of feel bad for that guy, right? like that stinks. They go to the post-game press conference. They asked Danny Hurley about that guy,

and they say, what do you think about it? What do you say to him when you lost? Did you see his comment? He goes, I'm going to say to him what I said to people who wondered if I was okay after the loss in Maui. I'm going to go home and take my two championship rings tonight and play with them. That's what I would tell him to do because he was on those teams. Go home, take your two championship rings off and just play with them. Do you like that response from a coach? I do not. Oh, you don't? I mean, it's kind of funny, but at the same time, you got to be, well, no, I'm going to flip.

I kind of thought, Shannon, I thought it was a great response. Oh, yeah, I like it. I thought it was like putting in its place. You're a national champion. Yeah, it's one game. Yeah, you lost this game, but you're a national champion. You've won back-to-back titles. Don't worry about it.

I thought Danny Hurley might be a jerk, but I actually thought that was a great answer. I didn't know if this was going to be in your book of topics, but I even wrote down my own notes and put this on our message board. I wrote about a rare Dan Hurley win because I thought that was awesome. I mean, you said it. He said, get your rings out, play with them, and get ready for Georgetown, basically saying, forget those two free throws. You've been at Yukon for two years and you've won two championships.

Move on. It's a good thing as coach was Hurley and not Mick Cronin after what he said the other night of UCLA losing. Yeah. But I just thought that, like, you talk about uplifting your guys, right? Because it was, they lost, if he makes those free throws, they win. And they were bricks. And they were, and he missed them, and so they lost.

I mean, the game was literally on him. And I thought you couldn't handle that better if you were a coach. I'm not totally saying I don't like it. It's a good response. I thought he would be more supportive of his guy, just in that public setting. But he was supportive. I thought he was like, man, he's a great guy. He's one of my favorite people of all time, you know, really talk him up.

That's what I thought he said. He wasn't one of his favorite people of all time. He was kind of saying he's saying he's a two-time champion in two years. Like what's, you know, one little bad night against. I loved it. And I thought, man, if you're that dude, you got to love that. And if I was him, I don't know what he means, Shannon, by playing with the rings. I don't know what that means, like just sort of putting it in your hands and just like.

Just roll it around in your hands and remember that you're a two-time, remember you're a two-time champion. I think that's his point. But I thought that was a good thing for Danny to say. Who's up first? Let's go to Richard. Richard, go ahead, Richard. Hey guys, this is Richard from down in Hopkinsville. Have a question, and I would love to hear your response to this.

Trent Noah, who is a player, obviously, on Kentucky's team, that seems to demonstrate a lot more physicality and ability to shoot than some of the kids that are on the floor. And I was just curious with him being a scholarship player, why he is not seeing the floor much more than he already is. And I would love to hear your comments. Well, I mean, again, though, like, don't you think, when you say he's a scholarship player, we've always had scholarship players that don't play.

Would you agree with that? I would. Yeah. So, I mean, he doesn't play because Mark doesn't think he's one of the best players to play. Now, he's played a little bit, but I think he believes that he's not as good. And I think the reason he believes that is because mostly defensively, but also, you know, he's just, he's a freshman. And I don't think he, the rest of these guys on this team are like 23 years old. And I just think he's not, he believes they're not quite as, he's not quite as advanced as they are.

Now, I would, I would agree with that when you're looking at your senior players and your graduates and those kind of guys that are playing. You've got Colin Candler and you got Travis Perry, who both are going to be great players, but they're a little weak defensively right now. And I just think Trent Noah is much more physical. He's a bigger kid. And I would just like to see him play more. No criticism of Coach Pope. I love Coach Pope.

But I appreciate you taking my call and appreciate your comment. Yeah. So, I mean, I do think Trent Noah. I mean, Travis Perry is a perfect example of a guy who has gotten significantly more comfortable and significantly better. And, like, will he be in the rotation? I think until Kirkreza comes back, he's going to get moments every game. Trent, there'll be games where he plays, but I just think that there's just an overall belief. This SEC is so physical.

And I'm not sure if he right now can take that physicality. Yeah, we're all rude for Trent. I think we all know this is the Kentucky fans won their boy. Every game in Rupp Arena, we're hearing put in Trent, and that's fun. But like I said, there's a reason he's so far down the rotation. Jack Given said he's doing everything right in practice. He's just behind guys that have so much more experience. Same with Travis Perry.

He's just gotten in recently because of the injury and they're thin at that position. They kind of lucked into an opportunity there. But as far as playing those guys significantly right now, I think they're playing just as much as they need to. I'm so happy. playing that much in the non-conference? Yes, I think they're playing. I agree with you. I mean, look, like Colin Chandler came in in that last game, and I thought he didn't look,

no offense to him, I thought he didn't look like he could be out there. He kind of got, he just kind of looked lost, and he played a couple minutes, and then that was that. When Travis Perry's come in, he looked like he can be out there some, and these other guys, they just have to have those moments. We're all super happy Trent Noah's on this team, and I think he's eventually at some point going to be a really good player here. Let him develop a little bit.

Let him go. I will say this, dude doesn't miss at Ruff Arena. When he's shooting at Ruff Arena, it's going down. Who's up next? Let's go to Boyce. Boyce. How are you, Boyce? 859-280-2287.

Ryan, I was wondering with our starting center, our backup center and the two forwards, they're going to have to, they're going to have to play great us to block shots. I think our defense haven't been that good, and we're going to have to be more aggressive

blocking shots. And I don't think we're having the same problem as what we did last year. I don't know. We've got to get more aggressive and more toughness to blocking, blocking shots. All right. So, Ryan, Libby, he asked you that. I appreciate the call. I know Boyce is big on our rim protectors and trying to get our bigs to play a little better.

Blocking shots is not our issue. It's rebounding. That's the issue with our bigs right now. I think since the Gonzaga game, I've actually think we've been pretty good at guarding the first shot. Right? I think in the – well, actually, since Ohio State, we didn't do a great job against Ohio State. But in the SEC play, at least in the Florida and the Georgia game, I thought we've guarded the first shot about as well as we can't. Where we've struggled is we just, we can't get the rebound.

And we, we cannot stop. I mean, Georgia took a lot of the shots we wanted them to take. We just, we bailed about with fouls, whether real or fake, and they got rebounds. And with the, with the blocks, I know we don't have Nerland's Noel out there, but considering what they lack a little bit athletically, I think they're like top 30 in blocks per game. It's not that bad. I mean, they don't have a true rim protector like we've seen many years of the Calera, I feel like they're doing all right.

You also wonder if Kobe Bray hits those three threes that rattle in and out, are we even having this conversation? Good point. And if they don't bank in. You know, if they, I mean, there, there is a part of basketball that is a little bit of, do you make shots or not?

Well, Pope actually gave a very great explanation last night on his show about assists because we're, and I'm guilty of it. I wrote a whole post about it about how that was only the second time they had more turnovers and assists. He said, we don't look at assists because, you know, sometimes shots sudden go in. Sometimes the guy's four assists and the shots the guys made were bad shots.

It's just random. He was talking about the opportunities to have an assist and that so much the reason they weren't getting assist at Georgia was just simply because the ball wasn't going in. They shot poorly. So we think so much and played up, you know, that they weren't sharing the ball. He's like, we were. We just weren't hitting shots. Yeah.

Then this last game, they just destroyed Georgia. I'm taking Notre Dame. See, it's bad because I'm, Drew, I think that James Franklin is too handsome. She, not James Franklin, the other guy. Not James Franklin. Sounds like a, so much keep yourself. Mario would you go? No, I don't think James Franklin, but the other guy's handsome.

Marcus Freeman. Marcus Freeman. Ladies. Women love Marcus Freeman. Like it's all Marcus Freeman all the time, and it makes me want to root against them because, of course, I think James Franklin is. You don't think James Franklin is handsome?

But what I don't understand about Notre Dame, they lost to Northern Illinois. It's not just like they lost to some random team. They lost to a team that didn't Northern Illinois finish like six and six? Like, they weren't even good, and now they have a chance to play for the national championship. It's crazy. But since that game, they've been whooping people.

I had them big to beat Georgia. I'm on them tonight. Win or lose, whoever wins this one, it's crazy to me that playing for the national championship can be a team that lost to an FCS team or James Franklin. The sport of college football having someone play for a championship like that is nuts. But I think Franklin won't get it done and Irish win. There's got to be part of us that also roots for Notre Dame because if there are two big 10 teams in the national championship, the SEC will like the fans will never recover.

that the fan bases of all the SEC teams, their heads will explode if it's Ohio State and Penn State in the championship game. Who hates that more, SEC or Michigan? But Michigan's always going to have, if Ohio State wins, Michigan's going to be able to say, but we beat you on your home field. I mean, I think there's a part of Michigan

that would almost wouldn't mind it necessarily. And they have their ring, recent rings, so they're all right. Yeah, so who you're taking? I mean, I think Notre Dame wins. I think Notre Dame wins. I'm going to pick Notre Dame. I thought the spread was surprisingly low. I got Notre Dame.

What about you? And a love touchdown. Yeah, I agree with you, Matt. I'm going Notre Dame. They're a one and a half-point favorite. James Franklin's not won a big-time game like ever. Even in the playoffs, he got Boise. Boise and SMU.

I mean, you know, it's Boise and SMU. Is that really a good draw? That's a pretty good draw. So I'm going to take Notre Dame. Who's next? Let's go to doing good. Doing good. How are you? Guys, I'm doing good. I hope you guys are doing well.

I'm doing well. Great. I got a quick fact check. Snowpec actually played, graduated in 89, not in the 90s. And I know because that Harrison County team was amazing. They beat the second best team in the state, which is who I played for, which was Montgomery County, in 88 and 89. and hats off to them. That was a great organization there. But anyway, I wanted to talk real quick about how strong the SEC is. I think your top four teams ranked at the end of the season

are going to be some form of like Duke, Iowa State, Marquette, and then probably Gonzaga, just because SEC is going to beat up on each other. I think 5 through 25 we're going to have 12 ranked SEC teams. I think we send 13 to the SEC tournament. which means, if I'm right, 40% of your first round NCAA games will involve an SEC team since they can't play each other. And then I think they'll screw somehow what we have to have two of our best teams play to get to the final four. I don't understand your math. Wait a minute. Do you think 40% of, if we have, there are 32 first round games. So you're saying 40% if we have 13 in. I got you. Okay, yeah. I guess I guess you're right about that.

You know, first of all, I don't think Gazag will be a one seed because they don't have any good wins, and they're not going to be able to get any good wins the rest of the years. I wasn't saying seed. I think the top four ranked AP teams because they'll go more about the. Yeah, you're right. They may be ranked. They may be ranked because they won't lose any games. I think the one seeds, if you were guessing the one seeds, I think Tennessee and Auburn and Duke are almost certain to be one seeds.

And then you might be right about Marquette. We'll see how they do. Maybe Iowa State. Yeah. But where do you think we finish as a C, by the way? Appreciate the call. As if you had to guess right now. If I had to guess right now, I'd say a three or a four.

I'm going to say three. You think we're saying a three? I won't go ahead and go three. I'm going to say, I think we're going to end up being a four, might even slip to a five, because I think we're going to take a bunch of losses just by the nature of how this goes. What about you?

Kind of the same. Lannardi had them as a two, just recently slid him down to three. We're going to lose SEC games, and I think that puts you at a four, maybe five, probably four. Is there any team? They did so good beating Duke and get that out of. The thing is, though, there's no team in the tournament I'm really scared of.

True. Right. That's not saying the hard teams, once we're playing in January and February, with at least the matchup and the physicality. I mean, if you look at the best teams out of the SEC, we've already beaten Duke. Whoa. What in the world was that? Ice or something.

Big piece of ice probably just fell onto the roof. That is, did that come through that roof? It fell on our metal roof out there. Wow. Hopefully it wasn't the guys that were on the roof. No, it came through the little thing. Yeah. Wow.

Man, that's a lot of ice. Yeah. But like you look at the best teams that are not in the SEC. We've beaten Duke, we've beaten Gonzaga. Not really scared Iowa State. Not really scared of Marquette. I mean, I feel like once you get through this SEC gauntlet, you're going to be ready for whoever you play, aren't you?

Yeah, I mean, they had a lot of draft picks recently, clearly, because they've been so bad and really a lot of those guys panned out Donovan and they're not just good. Guess what we voted for was one at one. One person writes, Matt, I believe Trent Noah will end up being the best player on this team before he leaves Kentucky. Do you agree with that? I think Trent Noah is going to be very, very good. The fact that he's going to be the best player, maybe a little bit of a stretch, just because he's just not as athletic as some of the guys that are coming in. But I do think he's going to be really, really good here. And Pope is recruiting the best players in the country. That's one of the things you've got to remember.

I mean, this is a unique group because of the situation of coming in. late and getting these guys. We're going to be recruiting the top of the top guys coming forward. So I don't, I don't agree with that. But I do think he can be a very important player over the course of this time. Yeah, he's going to play a lot of basketball in that uniform and we're going to be excited to watch all of it. But he will be recruited over every year as every player should be recruited over every year. You want to go out and get the best available. Now with the portal, I mean, there's so many options to go out and good guys. I think Pope will have every year adding someone. What do you think the SEC tournament is going to be like this year?

16, I mean, 16 teams, 15 games. You're going to have four games on Wednesday, four on Thursday, four on Friday, two on Saturday, one on Sunday. You're going to have teams that are really good playing on Wednesday. Yes. So like just look at right, let's just take the standings as they were now. So right now you got, let's just say Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, let's say, let's put us in that group in Florida. That means playing on

Wednesday would be like Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, you know, the Missouri team that beat Kansas. Yes, I mean, like, that would be great teams playing on Wednesday. And then you look at what Nashville,

I've got to think Texas, especially if they're decent, Their fans are going to come because it's the first one, and it's in Nashville. I believe the four best home fan bases in the SEC are Kentucky, Tennessee, Auburn, and Alabama, who may end up being the four best teams in the league. All those teams are very close to driving to Nashville. It's going to be an insane scene in Nashville for the SEC tournament. We should probably book our Airbnb today because the prices and the availability.

First of all, who's we? I'm the one that does it. You don't end up booking anything. I just kind of pat you on the back say, thanks, man. I appreciate you booking that for it. It's not act like you do any of that stuff. On that Wednesday you're talking about, there's going to be an NCAA tournament team playing on Wednesday in the NBCC tournament.

There's going to be multiple NCAA tournament teams playing on Wednesday. And then I think you could make an argument that those games on Thursday and Friday, especially Friday, you could make an argument that that Friday of games when the top teams are playing might be, like the best Friday of basketball ever in the SEC like in terms of all because I don't care who wins the games those are going to be competitive Friday games of course it's just we're so used to kind of laughing at the Wednesday game even though it got better in recent years but Wednesday's going to be a gone like are we going to go do a Wednesday show and just already be there because it starts in noon there's going to be good basketball you know I don't want to say but we might be in it

I mean, we might. It's not crazy. I mean, there's nothing crazy. Like, we could still be, we could still be a dangerous tournament team and playing on Wednesday in the SEC tournament tournament. Yeah. I think Drew said the other day, Kim Palm has Kentucky 9 and 9 to finish the SEC. That would put us probably on Wednesday. Probably right there on the border of playing on Wednesday.

I did this exercise earlier in the week. Now it's changed because there was games last night. But earlier in the week, just with the analytics, Kentucky was the seventh. seed playing the first Thursday night session against the Georgia LSU winner. That's just based on predicting the year out with Ken Palm's analytics. So that had Kentucky's the seven. Do you feel like that's where it ends up? No, and those numbers can be a little wonky.

That's why I hate referencing them so much. But I can just show you what's possible playing that Thursday night game as the seven seed. Then you go in, you got the two, and then it goes from there. there. But, but like, he walks in and it's like, it is such a funny discrepancy in, in size in the, in the wrestling locker room. I just wonder, has anyone managed more champions than me in wrestling history? You are Bobby the Brain. He did. Who's up next? I think that's pretty much it.

And I assume we go all across the south against that kind of crowd where the skill level of the players is about the same. I mean, it's going to be a rough season.

And until we can develop kind of an attitude that we can handle these guys, we'll have our hands full. I mean, like I said, I've never seen a crowd that enthusiastic for the entire game. Do we have, appreciate the call, Larry, do we have dog, like we talked about this over there's, do we have road dogs? Do we have dudes who will look at that road crowd and say, bring it on? I'm a road dog. Do you think we have that? If we do, they did not go to Clemson or Georgia. I'll say that much.

They need to dig deep and find their road dog. Even Andrew Carr said in that post game radio interview after the Georgia game, we got to start being nasty. So no, we don't have road dogs right now. You and I were at that game at Gonzaga. All three of us were. All four of us were. There were moments that crowd went crazy, and our guys stepped up. Now, that was a big arena, though.

Do you think we'll be able to do it in these smaller gyms? I think our one dog is sitting on the bench in a boot. I think he's the one guy that could help in situations like that. Do you think he's really not having him has hurt us? I think it definitely has hurt us. And our big guys don't, I just don't think they have it in them. Amari and Brandon and Jackson. car i just don't see them being the dog that we need them to be we were all excited for cur to be in

these road atmospheres so i don't know what it would mean for wins and losses probably nothing but from an entertainment standpoint we are being robbed if kirk recid did you see otega on the free throw line yeah it would have been better if we had won but otega's on the free throw line shooting a free throw and somebody's talking trash to him and otega looks at him and goes this is your super bowl which is was a cool thing to say now it's cooler if we win the game but but they I do think these guys have to understand like you don't get any plays off and you have to hit the shot and look at the crowd and tell them to shut up like you've got the best Kentucky teams over the years have had that guy they've had the guy who wants to

rip the heart out of the crowd and we just have to see if we I don't know if any of these guys are like that I think Lamont and Oteg have got a little bit in them especially you know they were trying to get some steals trying to get Kentucky back in it late but I don't know if there's another one on the team that can go be that person. Yeah. Right? When he slid on the floor. Yeah. Okay. So apparently the rule is you can slide, but you can't flip over. Now, I would argue if you watch the video, he flipped over. He does. He turns a little. He catches it, then falls on his back and flips. Walk. Yep. So I put up this video that just says, this is a walk. Fran Fashilla, who's supposed to be an ESPN colleague, Fran, Fran, I've had you on the air many times. I don't make fun of the fact that you always wear a suit that's too large for you. Like, I don't say any of that stuff. You would never say that.

I would never say such a thing. What are you laughing at, ma'am? Well, I mean, I used to wear bad suits. Like, I used to wear suits that were too large, too, and it's just, it happens. But Fran Fraschilla retweets it and says, I'm not trying to pick on that, but he needs to know the rules, blah, blah, blah, blah. Next thing I know, I'm getting community noted. and the Twitter official community note basically says this isn't a walk.

Well, first of all, who gets to decide that? Like, how did they get to decide that that's not a walk? I still think it's a walk. I don't care what that stupid note says. What I'm learning right now is Franf's got a lot of power on Twitter. So can I just, Shannon, every time somebody complains about a call, get them community noted? No, it was the wrong call.

It was the right call. Yeah, you should be able to call. Call Fran out for some of the stuff that he said in the past. I guarantee he's not correct in everything that he says. So just so you know, I don't even know how one does that, but the next time Fran Frasilla says something I don't like, community note. There you go.

Go for it. His last tweet, he says, Jason Kidd will be a head coach soon. I'm going to say, no, he's not. This is crap. Community note, no, he will not. Community note. No, he will not be a head coach.

Why are you lying on Twitter, Fran? Why are you lying, Fran? I have wondered that. How do you get the power? Because you'll see it on big tweets. And it's like, well, how do I know the community notes? Right. That's what got that one dude so working up at me as he goes, I said,

who's community noting this? And they were like, I was like, I made a joke. Like, Elon must be just community. And the guy was like, Elon does not participate in the community notes. And I go, how do you know? Like, and he said, because he said. And I'm like, did he community note a community note? There were a lot of community notes.

I just can't believe they would community note me saying the, Georgia guy walked because he walked that was a walk it thought it was obvious to everybody that did he not flip over he flipped over I thought it was a travel I did too who's next kb KB what's up hey man how y'all doing doing good what's up no I just got one comment one question first comment regarding your previous comments about cow and being sorry for him man I don't have a single iota simply for that dude like shannon said he made his bed he's got to sleep in it now so I'm not feeling bad for him at all and I was glad to see him go for sure

i do but um but yeah i mean people make i mean honestly we all make bad decisions at some point in our life but um his um i don't think it was uh uh the most terrible decision in the world um in the grand steward thing so i don't get a lot of money he's still getting a lot of money i appreciate the call i guess part of it is i know i know his ego and his egos when he's sitting there and seeing 20 people watch his post-game show that's got to eat at him. It does. It has to. When he see it, I mean, imagine what it's like when he sees the Mark Pope crowd. Maybe he doesn't need to have an ego.

Maybe he needs an attitude adjustment. Well, I don't. Shannon has no sympathy for anyone. Especially somebody with the teagotistic or like that. Listen, nobody's ever made a worse college basketball business decision than thinking, Kentucky was going to like fall to his demands because he did he thought Kentucky would come back and beg him to stay and they didn't and then he got stuck at Arkansas and that's where he is now so do you think after a couple maybe losing seasons at Arkansas it's going to humble him a

little bit no but would you be shocked if he quit after this year I've said me I don't think he's got If you set the line at three years, I'm under and put money on it. There's no way he goes beyond like next year. Maybe he thinks, right, I got to. Well, again, we'll see how they end up. Maybe they'll end up better. It's hard to see that, but maybe. But I don't, he's not got many years.
