Starting point is 00:02:51 where we didn't think we'd be here today, but we are. So you can come out and join us, have a little lunch. Give us a shout on the Clark's Pump and Shop phone. Actually, you know what? No Clark Pub and Shop phone line, Shannon. We're going to go. We're going to just talk for a while. We might do the phones a little later, okay? A-Vision Auto Glass text machine is 772-7-4-5-254.
Starting point is 00:03:11 I would like you to do that. 772-7-7-4. And this edition is sponsored by the T.J. Smithlaw, office. You call T.J. O'May, I'll make them pay. By the way, I've been giving out the A-Vision Auto Glass text machine on ESPN during my Sundays with Matt Myron. Yeah. And so sometimes I get those people. And that's really neat because it's not like the normal.
Starting point is 00:03:29 group. So that's cool. A new avenue for them to contact you during your national show. Yeah, exactly. And you get random people. So a lot of stuff to talk about. Kentucky played. There's been a lot just going on like stuff I've done. Annoguration was yesterday, etc. So there's a lot going on. I'll start with, let's just go over the most important thing today. Today's my mom's birthday. Yay. Happy birthday to my mom. How about that? Happy birthday to my mom. She probably wouldn't want me to to tell the age, but I'm going to go ahead and do it. She's 71 years old, so happy birthday to my mom. And looks amazing for 71.
Starting point is 00:04:07 You would not think my mom was 71 if you saw her. I mentioned that to you last night. Both of your parents, Larry and Karen, they both look remarkably young for their age. Yeah. And I think I look generally young for my age, so I think we've kind of gotten that passed out. That gene pool pretty well. But mom's 71, so, you know, I would say, say happy birthday to her. but she's not reachable by social media by anyone,
Starting point is 00:04:32 so you can just do it at your home and wave. I hope Larry takes her out to what do they think they'll go tonight? McDonald's. Cracker Barrel, the Middustboro Cracker Barrel. This is birthday, you know, in that area, probably gondolier. That's the go-to. Yeah, probably gondolier. I think that'll be the birthday meal.
Starting point is 00:04:51 We'll see. But 71. So happy birthday to Mom. The last night. We'll talk about it a little later. We gave away $4,000 from Country Roads Spirits, and what an exciting night, wasn't it? I mean, we'll talk about it later. But wasn't that fun bar was full?
Starting point is 00:05:10 People were yelling, and it was energetic, and at the end, very tense. It was packed, and there was a lot of energy in here, and we started the game all the way through the whole first half. But then when it got whittled down, it did get really tense in here. It got very tense. We'll talk about what happened, but it was tense in here. I loved it, and somebody walked away quite a bit of months. $4,000. $4,000.
Starting point is 00:05:31 So, yes. Before we get started, though, I want to go up some stuff last Friday. Okay, so you may remember I was going to speak to the Kentucky Young Farmers Association. That's right. And I asked you all, what do you think? You know, I got this cowboy hat. People seem to like the cowboy hat. Big investment for you.
Starting point is 00:05:51 I think it looks good. Yeah. So, you know, I'm going to Young Farmers Association. Perfect time. Feels like I should bring out the hat. I think so, too. You, Shannon, you, Drew's gone, by the way, today. You said, Shannon, wear the hat, right?
Starting point is 00:06:03 Ryan said wear the hat. Yeah. Drew said, wear the hat. So I said, all right, I'll wear it. Then I got to two or three hours before, and I got a little scared. Oh. Because here was my mindset. What, I don't want them to think I'm making fun of.
Starting point is 00:06:18 Yeah. No, I did. I didn't want to think I was making fun of them. Right? And so I was like, well, maybe don't wear that. And then, and whoever wrote this, this is on you. Somebody wrote the text machine and said, hey, I'm part of the Young Farmers Association. I can't be there tonight.
Starting point is 00:06:40 But don't worry if you want to wear the hat, there'll be a bunch of people in hats. And I went. All right. Then I took a shower, and I need a haircut. Like, I'm getting haircut tomorrow. So my hair was kind of, it's too long right now. and because I don't have as much hair on top as I used to, like when it grows on the sides,
Starting point is 00:07:04 it grows quicker than the top, and that doesn't look good. Yeah. So the hair didn't look great. So I was like, all right, Shannon, we'll wear the hat. Yeah, right. Yeah, go for it.
Starting point is 00:07:14 So put the hat on, ready to go. I'm like, I'm, the key is on it. You know what I mean? The key is on it. Confidence. Confidence. I kind of looked in the middle. I was like, maybe I'm giving off Shannon JBL vibes.
Starting point is 00:07:30 You know what I mean? Because I had a sports coat on. Do you wear your boots? Wore my boots, new boots. Oh, no. Or the boots. So I did feel like I look like a million bucks. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:42 I did feel like it. And I think I actually did objectively look pretty good. But the moment I walked into the Hilton, I saw, I'm going to be the only person in a cowboy hat. Nobody? One guy. One guy. One guy. There was only one other person in a room of 300 plus people that had a cowboy hat on.
Starting point is 00:08:06 So, now, luckily, a lot of people in the room are listeners to the show. And they would come up to me and go, glad you wore the cowboy. Nice. Nice. And to those people, thank you. Uh-huh. Because I was questioning the decision at first. Because you are 6'4 and you got a cowboy hat on.
Starting point is 00:08:23 And, yeah. And probably the only person with like a jacket on. You know, they're dressed like they're going farming, right? Okay. So I owned it, said, you know what? I'm just a cowboy. I can't help it. They're not as cowboy as me, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:08:38 You know what I mean? Yeah. Right? Yeah. So I went with it, got up and spoke. It was a great group. It was very nice. It was cool.
Starting point is 00:08:46 People came up to me were great. I think they liked my message, which is one about Kentucky and unity and br-b-b-b-b-b-b-br-b. But I will say, when you're not used to wearing a cowboy hat, and it's just you and one other person in a room of 300, it can be a little, you know, I mean, you can be a little like, did I make the right decision? Did you and the other dude have a moment? He, I like this guy. He was from Fulton County, which is, you know, far into the state,
Starting point is 00:09:17 he came and set at my table. I think Shannon, because we were cowboys. A brotherly bond. There was a hat bond there. Yeah. Yeah. I could see that. You probably didn't have any overalls that you could have worn. No, this group wasn't wearing overalls.
Starting point is 00:09:32 This was young farmers. They were basically trucker hats. Oh, I got you. I can tell the current farmer vibe is trucker hat like bubble vest. Uh-huh. Right. So like bro country singer almost. It is a little bit bro country.
Starting point is 00:09:46 Brian. But that's what I did. So then that was over, Ryan. I walked over to Manchester. City Music Hall and went to the music concert for my friend, Byron Roberts. You want to talk about good vibes. I mean, this is a guy, people in Eastern Kentucky who like music in Eastern Kentucky. If you like, like Tyler Childers kind of music, you probably know who Byron Roberts is.
Starting point is 00:10:08 He's the one that created that kicking it on the creek that I went to. But he's part, if you've been to a concert of somebody that is from Eastern Kentucky, he was there. Okay. Right. They did this concert for him at Manchester Music Hall. I bought tickets because, like, I love that guy, and he's battling cancer, and I wanted to go support him. But I didn't know how many people would be there.
Starting point is 00:10:30 Place was packed. Wow, really. All people there to help that guy. All the musicians donated their time. Yeah. I mean, you want to talk about good vibes in a place. I mean, you know, imagine what life you've lived, Shannon, where a thousand people would come to honor you to help you raise money to fight your disease. Very touching.
Starting point is 00:10:52 I mean, that's pretty amazing. I went up to him and gave him a hug and he was crying. I mean, he just had a line of people. You know, great music from almost all the artists from this area, not all of them, but most of them. So it was a great night all the way around. I'm sure every artist said something nice to him. I'm sure he cried the whole night. He was cried the whole night.
Starting point is 00:11:12 Which I would too. I would too. I would too. And a lot of listeners to this show. So it was just a good vibes weekend. Then, of course, we got to Saturday and played Alabama, scored 97 points, which normally, Ryan, you think would be enough. 97 at home, that's a win. You think that's win, but Alabama also good.
Starting point is 00:11:35 And they also scored a lot of points. They scored 102, and we lost. What were your thoughts on the game? Really, first of all, a really fun game to watch. I mean, it was really entertaining. That was two really good teams playing at a really high level. But, you know, going to the season, we all thought Alabama was going to be the team to beat in the SEC. They returned a lot of guys from their final four team.
Starting point is 00:11:53 They haven't played that way, but then we saw Saturday how good Alabama can really be. That's a really, really good team. But I really, I thought Kentucky played really, really well. Yeah, I thought Kentucky played really well in offense. Yeah. I told you in the game who I was worried about, and that was Grant Nelson. And in the first half, he was the LeBron in the first half. If he's not there, I think we win the game because we get a lead in the first half.
Starting point is 00:12:17 we probably keep, but we didn't because we couldn't stop him. And in the second half, Sears, I mean, they basically, you know, Jay Billis always says if two teams are pretty even, give me the team with the two, best players, they had the two best players. I mean, Sears and Nelson are probably better than anybody we have. I think our next five are probably better than some of the guys they have, but like they got the top two guys. They both performed and they won.
Starting point is 00:12:40 And when I watched at the end, I didn't feel like bad about it, but I just felt like, look, they were better. That doesn't mean if we played them again, they won't be better, or that we wouldn't be better, but they were better. And we were not able to guard them at all. And I heard Rob Doster on the field of 68 say, and I think he's right about this. Kentucky plays a way to where our defense is not good. So when we play a good team, like we don't have a margin for error. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:13:18 We have to be good the whole game. Because if we're not good for the whole game against a good team, we're going to lose. So a perfect scenario to me is games tied at 81. We've gotten to the point where we're equal to them. And then we have a run of three, two minutes that we screw up. And then it's over right there. Yeah. The run where Butler misses the pass.
Starting point is 00:13:39 Amari blocks a shot. They get the own rebound, kick it out for three. We come down. Allmanor misses the three. Butler makes kind of a weird shot. Like, we had a two-minute stress that lost us the game because our margin for error is so small because our defense is not good. Yeah, our lack of defense in times allows other teams to go on big runs, too, like 8-0-9-0. They had four runs that were 9-0 or more.
Starting point is 00:14:03 See? You're just not going to win a lot of games where you give four-9-0 runs, right? Who was it? We played the other night and had 3-10-0 runs. Well, we're going to win when that happens most of the time. They had four nine-old runs. And, you know, I've said all year. I don't think our defense, like, I don't expect it to get a lot better.
Starting point is 00:14:22 I still don't expect it to get a lot better. I think it's gotten a little better. But we had no answer for Grant Nelson. We had no answer for Grant Nelson. Carr can't guard him. And then if you listen after the game, I actually thought that the analysis Nate Oates gave of the game. I really like Mark Pope and Nate Oates because they tell you what they did. You know what I mean? Nate Oates
Starting point is 00:14:46 said, we decided that there were certain people on Kentucky that were seals. Now, he didn't call him out, but he's talking about Travis Perry, Kobe Brea, and to some extent Jackson Robinson, but really Perry and Brea. And he
Starting point is 00:15:02 said we saw seals on the court. And when we did, we were going to make sure to get our whales, and he was talking about Sears, Nelson, and then the other guy, I can't remember. Get our whales on their seals and they would run action and there was somebody online who broke this down they would run action to where their whales got one-on-one with our seals and they ate took it right at him
Starting point is 00:15:27 and took it right at them yep and i think he's mostly talking about peri braya maybe car there were one or two plays with robinson but really i think he was talking about peri and braya and he was like we were going to take them they did too and and he said our whales take their seals and i thought, you know what, I don't think that's disrespectful. He's just being honest about what they did. I think probably Carr is somebody he's also talking about because every time Nelson got one-on-one with Carr, he was going right to the basket. They really abused Travis.
Starting point is 00:15:57 And I don't blame him, but, I mean, like, what's he going to do? He's just not, Sears is better than him. Yep. And then they would switch Nelson, took him. He's got no chance with that. Same with Bray. I mean, he just can't guard those guys. And so it was very smart.
Starting point is 00:16:11 They went looking for their matchup. They kept moving the ball around until they got their matchup. And then once they got their matchup, that guy either scored or he found an open shooter and that was that. I want to ask you this because the guy sent me some stats saying, well, maybe one reason our defense's numbers are so bad. We've played the best offensive teams in the country. I think that's certainly part of it for sure. No doubt. But that's who we're going to play.
Starting point is 00:16:38 Yeah. And we still got some more coming. We still got some more coming. We still got Auburn coming. Alabama again. Alabama again. So, you know, that's just how it is. But I still thought it was a good game.
Starting point is 00:16:50 I'm not down about the game. I thought we could lose. We beat, what, A&M before, and so I don't think it made as big a difference. But they're better than us, and that's the way it is. Does the loss change the way you think about this team even a little bit? No. I mean either. No, because I think.
Starting point is 00:17:10 think we are, I think there's four, maybe three elite teams, probably three. I think Duke, Auburn, and Alabama are elite. I had Tennessee, but I don't know now. I don't think they can score now. Shannon's Vandy knocked them off. So I kind of think Tennessee is now in a second tier group that includes us, Marquette, Iowa State, probably some other teams I can't think of right this minute, Michigan State. And those two tier teams can beat a one-tier team, but you better play perfect.
Starting point is 00:17:39 Yeah. And we didn't play perfect. Yeah. 8.5, 9, 2. Well, no, not yet. We're not going to open. I got a lot more to talk about. We'll talk more about the whales and the seals.
Starting point is 00:17:47 Then Pope, I thought, had something fascinating to say last night, which I want to bring up. And then all the other events of a weekend, there were a lot of things going on. This is KSR. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending. Opinions are flying. And nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
Starting point is 00:18:06 That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode we're cutting through the noise. Starting point is 00:19:49 Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapulted Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee,
Starting point is 00:20:12 and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met, Levant, this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody?
Starting point is 00:20:34 coming after me. Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer them? On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges
Starting point is 00:21:03 that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. from the WMBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't belong.
Starting point is 00:21:20 Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeke. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. at our level at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything.
Starting point is 00:21:41 I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHart Women's Sports. Is this key? Yeah, I mean, after yesterday, I don't know that we needed to play Kid Rock. Well, you don't like Kid Rock?
Starting point is 00:22:06 I mean, he's fine. You know my view. I'm not going to not like singers because they're political views. The people mad at Carrie Underwood, get over it. Like, she's allowed to do that. I got no problem with that. Kid Rock, I think, is a goober, but I'm not going to act like I don't like this song, shit. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:24 I mean, if this song plays or Ba With the Ba, or the song he sang with Cheryl, those are still bangers. Yeah, absolutely. And he's coming into the Yom Center. He's coming into Ashland, too. I won't go to that. No, Ashley, it's got Mark Chestnut coming with King Rock. Now, Ashland, I would consider, because, yeah, isn't he coming with some other, like,
Starting point is 00:22:42 Hank Jr., Tracy Lawrence? Okay, so that's one I would consider. If I get Mark Chestnut, Tracy Lawrence, and Hank Jr. Shinn and Doha. Oh, it's got Shinn and Doha. Yeah. Oh, two dozen roses? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:55 And it'll change my mind? Let's go. You're in. You just changed my mind right there. You're in. Don't be Shinnandoah. It didn't even take two dozen roses. It didn't even take two dozen roses.
Starting point is 00:23:03 doesn't row. I would go to that. When is that? That sounds like a good group. That's coming up, I think, maybe in the summer. Okay. Now, that's one I could see myself going. A kid rock by himself, I probably wouldn't.
Starting point is 00:23:13 We've been to a kid rock concert. Yeah, at the Republican Governor's Convention. And Matt Bevin was hanging out. And Matt Bevin stood by himself wearing a denim on denim outfit. Banging his head, looking as awkward as a person could look. And you remember who we head banged with during that song? The Florida governor, Rick Scott? No.
Starting point is 00:23:36 No. First of all, he's not the Florida governor, and he wasn't even there. Scott Walker. Scott Walker. Not Rick Scott Walker. Got it. One verse says, Matt, my sister was at that speech. She said, you look great, and the speech was great.
Starting point is 00:23:53 But no, you did not fit into the fashion. Well, that's probably fair. I tried, though. Because how many times you can get to wear that? That's what I was getting ready to say. When am I going to wear that? You got to pick and choose when to wear it? That was the right time to wear it.
Starting point is 00:24:07 When's the rodeo here, right? And only a certain kind of concert. Like you wouldn't wear that to Tyler. It'd have to be the kind of concert that I don't even go to. Like Luke Combs. So at the concert at Manchester Music Hall, there are a lot of cowboy hats there? None.
Starting point is 00:24:24 You were the only one there? Yeah, but that kind of country, they don't do that. I knew there'd be no cowboy hats there. Oh, okay. Yeah, no, that's the real, Appalachian country is not a cowboy hat country. Right? Morgan Wallin's cowboy hat country now.
Starting point is 00:24:39 I know that seems weird, but that's just George Strait. Yeah, for sure. I just looked up that show. So Sammy Kirshall is going to be there too. Sam and Sammy Kirshall? Dude, we got to go. Dude, let's go. This is Ashley 11th and 12th.
Starting point is 00:24:53 Yeah, we're going. Me and you will go, Shannon. You want to go? Let's do it. We'll go. I think that sounds like a fun show. Brodate. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:00 Kentucky headhunters? Dina Carter If they hadn't put Kid Rock on there That's my lineup That's literally like Like you couldn't have Hold on There's more Afro-Man's gonna be there
Starting point is 00:25:14 No Afro-Man is not there Yes he is Well he's gonna just sing because I got hiding And get off stage Right he's not gonna sing anything else And the Ying Yang Twins The Ying-Jang twins That is quite a mix
Starting point is 00:25:25 Mark Chess not an Afro-Man Why are the Ying-yang twins there? Why not? Let's go Let's do it. Wow. Now, that is quite a lot up there going. Well, no, I keep wanting to do that. That's not what I...
Starting point is 00:25:38 All right, so back to the thing. Pope says last night on his radio show, but they have spent the weekend studying the officiating from their first five games. Yes. And they said, we have realized that there is something we can do to draw more files. And then they asked him, what is that? And he said, I ain't saying. Yeah, he didn't want to tip everybody off.
Starting point is 00:26:03 So what do you think it is? I don't know. I know. Oh, you do know. Yeah. He's going to tell them to fall down. Oh. No, he's going to tell him, and he's right, he's going to tell them when they shoot threes and a guy lands in their landing area, fall down.
Starting point is 00:26:15 When you go up for a shot and you're getting into contact on layups fall down. That's, I, let's watch the next game. Yeah. Shannon, I guarantee you our guys fall down more, which they should. Yep. I'll tell you what Vandy does, too. They just steamroll guys. They just running guys over.
Starting point is 00:26:33 They get the call, though. Yes. It's not flopping, although there are guys out there that flop. But if the difference is between you falling down and not falling down, if you got hit, you got to fall down. I remember Cal would teach his guys to scream. No, when they would go up, they go, ah! I think you got to teach him to fall. Ansley Almanor.
Starting point is 00:26:58 He had a dude in that landing circle thing where you shoot a three. There was a guy in his landing circle, but he didn't fall down. And I think if he'd fall down, he had gotten a call. So you think, like, they've, well, I can use Mark Pope's word. They collect the data and look like there's probably some fouls we could have gotten if we had fallen down. Mark Pope's team at BYU was 275th in the country and fouls drawn. Okay? I don't know where we are, but we're at least in the SEC.
Starting point is 00:27:28 not as good at it. Yeah. I think that part of it is because the way he plays, you shoot a lot of jump shots. But part of it is you might have to adjust, and when these games get called physically, you have to take advantage and get some free throws on
Starting point is 00:27:42 your own. You know, you look at just, yeah, the amount of free throw shot, our opponent has been shooting much more free throws than we've been shooting in SEC play. Yes. So do you like the idea of, Shannon, if I'm correct, and it is fall down, do you like
Starting point is 00:27:58 that? Whatever's going to get them to the free throw line more often. Yeah, go for it. I mean, other teams are going to do it. I agree. You got to play that game. You can sit there and whine about the way it's called all you want. But if it's going to be called like that, you've got to take advantage of it.
Starting point is 00:28:14 You've got to play to that, right? Yep. You know, I think Otega may be the only guy that really, I think, you know, takes the contact and falls down. I'm trying to think, I don't remember any of our big guys ever. Well, we've talked about this. Most of our guys fade away. on those layups.
Starting point is 00:28:30 Butler does it. Robinson does it. Amari does it. Carr usually doesn't try to shoot over people, but to the extent he does, the only person that takes it is Oway. There's Oway. And I don't know if somebody could look and see.
Starting point is 00:28:43 I bet he leads our team in free throw. Oh, I bet he does too. You know? Yeah, I bet he does. It's either him or Amari that probably draw the most foul. Yeah. I do feel like Amari gets a bad whistle. Amari gets that shack whistle where it's hard for him.
Starting point is 00:28:56 Well, he's learning how to play in the physical SEC every game out. He is. But I don't know what it was. He told him, but he told him something, and I think he probably told him to fall down. We'll take a break and be right back. You can guess what the next one is. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J., he'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. So what is the name of this song? This is me more cowboy than you. Here it is. Brutty brothers. So apparently this has gone viral on TikTok.
Starting point is 00:29:36 Me more cowboy than you. Is that what you were thinking when you walked into that? No, I wasn't thinking. I just thought, you know, that I looked good. That was really good. You look more cowboy than you. Yeah. I mean, you just look at, you know.
Starting point is 00:29:51 But if I were to go to, like, New York and wear it, I'm more cowboy than they are. Yes. You could be the naked cowboy. You could put him out of a job. That's right. But if you're in Texas, then no. I would not be. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:04 Also, people are starting to wear it because of that show, Leia Man, which you like a lot, right? I just finished it. It's very, very good. You really like that one. Billy Bob Thornton is really good in this movie, in this series. Really good. By the way, we're 251st in fouls drawn per game.
Starting point is 00:30:20 And that kind of piggybacks what you said, what his teams were at VYU. Yeah. So you got, I mean, that's now. There's a negative to falling down. You don't get the call. It's harder to get back on defense. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:30 Yeah. Right. It also might mess with the rhythm of your shooting. Sure. So I guess you probably do have to balance that, right? It'll be curious to see this next game. Now that we know potentially what the secret is, how many times against Vandy they fall down after they take contact.
Starting point is 00:30:47 You know, the Vandy game looks harder. They beat Tennessee on the road and were up the whole game. I mean, that was a pretty thorough beating of Tennessee. At one point, they were up by 16 and could have run them out of the gym. I think they got a little tight down the stretch with Tennessee came back. But they still want, so, I mean, that Vandy game is not a gimmie. No. But not this gimmie.
Starting point is 00:31:05 But yet Tennessee looks a little more vulnerable. You know, they had, what, 46 points against Florida? They had trouble scoring against Vandy. So maybe they're not as strong as we thought they were. One person writes, Matt, you shouldn't let callers call in because you talk all the time. The show would be better if you talk less. Well, I mean, good luck, man. Listen to Paul Fondbaum, if you like a horse like that.
Starting point is 00:31:26 I'm just saying, if you're waiting for me to talk less, it's probably going to be a negative. probably going to be a negative experience for you i think the uh the ratings back up your formula on how to do this show so i think we're okay uh by the way you didn't tell me nickelback was at that concert too i didn't know that you cared so much about nickel back i like the hey william junior did i said him yeah you did say him i've been to nickelback concert before i bet you have that doesn't surprise me by the way my mom's going to knoxville for for for so so larry's taking her to knoxford so this is going to be fancy All the nice restaurants in Knoxville, be ready at 4.30.
Starting point is 00:32:06 There's a couple that's going to be walking in, I bet. Do they think they're going to Olive Garden? Oh, no, no. They'll do better than that. I know where they're probably going. I'm not going to say it, but I just kind of have to say it. I think I know where they're going. All right, we've got to talk a second about Cal Perry.
Starting point is 00:32:22 Oh, and five. Oh, and five. Oh, and five. Blown out. Yeah. Down 18 to 2 at one point. feels like you also have hit a tipping point of the national media going this might be it
Starting point is 00:32:37 it seemed like everybody wrote an anti-cow story this weekend everybody yeah the biggest one to me is goodman who granted is dancing right now sure okay not a cow supporter not a cow supporter he's dancing he anonymously quoted SEC coaches that basically said he's cooked. It's over. The offense is ancient. It's over. They basically said,
Starting point is 00:33:08 bye. Shannon, I'll tell you what I know about Cal. He'll know those articles got written. He'll know Goodman said that. If they can't flip it now, it ain't happen. The competitive juice that he has, he wants to be doubted. If it doesn't happen now, Shannon, it ain't happening. With Jeff Goodman dancing on his grave, if he can't flip that, then it's not happening because there's nothing that will motivate him more. Nothing in the world could motivate John Caliperi more than Jeff Goodman writing a negative piece about him.
Starting point is 00:33:48 I know him. I know how much he dislikes Jeff Goodman. You think he dislikes me? He dislikes him more. nothing could get him more motivated. If that doesn't do it, Shannon, it ain't happened. We've talked about how he's at his best when he has an opposite, you know, a person that's been critical of him or somebody he doesn't like it.
Starting point is 00:34:06 For years it was Petino, Kevin Stallings, I guess maybe you for the last couple of years, you know. Nobody is on Goodman's left. He has to have somebody that's an enemy, and that's when he's at his best. So we'll see if he can turn this thing around. When I would say to you in terms of if you were to rank the people that drive Cal the crazy, number one is Jeff Goodman probably Pat 40's number two but number one is Jeff Goodman and so when I saw that article I thought who do they play next they play Georgia at home if they can't win that game Ryan it's over because he will be as motivated to win that game
Starting point is 00:34:42 as he was the national championship in 2012 he will Georgia is who they play tonight it's either tonight or tomorrow I don't it's they play them in tonight or tomorrow okay I think I saw Alabama's coming up, too. They're in danger of going on. They play Georgia, and then on Saturday or whatever. They play someone they can beat. I can't remember who is. Oklahoma.
Starting point is 00:35:03 And then, of course, they play us. I think they have a buy, and then they play us. He's in danger of also losing his locker room. I mean, O' and five, getting blown out. You know, he's treading some very desperate waters, I think, coming up over there. I mean, they were down to 18 to 2. Yeah. It's like the guys that, you know, I'm not.
Starting point is 00:35:23 And a Boogie Flan may be out, by the way. That's right. Boogie Flan has hurt his hand, and they said maybe out for a few games, so he might miss our game. Dude, and he is like their main offensive threat. He's like him and a do are their only offensive threats in most games. And we said this before. What about when you wore a blue jacket?
Starting point is 00:35:40 He did wear a blue jacket at the game. What did you think about that? I got to admit I kind of liked him wearing a blue jacket. Okay, so we talked about this a couple weeks ago. Is there any part of you that feels sorry for him? because I'm starting to sense our fan base, I think almost nobody felt sorry for it. And I'm starting to hear some people kind of feeling sorry for him. Kind of, I've talked to one person that was one of the most anti-Cal people I knew.
Starting point is 00:36:08 And he was like, well, it's kind of sad. It's ending like this. Are you in that train yet? I was in that train when you asked this question last time. I said, I'm starting to feel a little sorry for the guy. Here is a Hall of Fame coach, one of the best college coaches in the history of the game, and his legacy is about to be tarnished because they're awful right now at Arkansas. Shannon, feeling sorry for him?
Starting point is 00:36:29 No, you guys, you guys feel sorry for him. I think it's hilarious. I'm laughing every time I see the score and they're down about 20 points. I think it's great. I mean, some of these quotes, too, I mean, these coaches are laying into them. Basically saying that I, here's the quote. Read one of those quotes, here's the quote. There's just no fear now when I see them on the other sideline.
Starting point is 00:36:50 No fear. There's another quote that says, I don't think Calipari and his staff can adapt. None of our pieces fit, none of them. These are the quills. I saw an Arkansas, let me tell you how deep the Arkansas media is into this. I saw an Arkansas, like, for whatever reason on my algorithm, there's like three or four things that are popping up, and one of them is Arkansas basketball shows and stuff. And one of them that pops up, there was these two guys from Arkansas, and they said,
Starting point is 00:37:18 they had researched, and they pointed out John Robic and Dwayne Peevy not being with them. him as part of the problem. They'd gone that far into the hole to know Robic. By the way, they're right. But clearly they must have researched a lot to get maybe from this show to get to that point to realize that those were the thing. I think we've, you know, you've pointed it out for years. You can point to that moment in his career when things kind of started going south. And one of the guys on the show goes, they wanted to not blame Cal. They said he's got the worst staff in the country. I just want to say, not trying to be rude, but he might have the worst staff in the country.
Starting point is 00:37:58 I don't know that he has a staff that works less hard. Do you think there's a staff that does game planning worse than his? If there is, I don't know of them. You got guys in your staff that didn't even log in one time to your equipment here in Lexington when trying to help your players out. He didn't even log into it one time during the season. You even heard Willie when he was on say he's just complacent. See, I thought that was really important.
Starting point is 00:38:24 It was. I mean, here's why I thought that what Willie said was important is Willie's not trying to crush him, right? Willie likes him, right? Willie credits him for helping him turn his life for him. He developed, helped develop Willie. Right. So Willie is someone that's a fan of his. And when a fan of yours says he kind of got soft and complacent,
Starting point is 00:38:47 resonate. How you're not going to listen to that? Yep. You know? I think probably if you poll all of his former players, they would all probably agree with what Willie said. I bet they would too. Willie might be the only one that would say it,
Starting point is 00:39:01 but they probably agree with it. Start the new year and a brand new home from Bluegrass Home Center. Don't wait. Make 2025 the year to unlock the door to a new beginning. Starting point is 00:44:06 All right, like I said, you don't get that complaint here. If you don't want to hear this part, just come back at 11 o'clock. Sure. We've got to talk about yesterday. First of all, to me, winner. of the day, Carrie Underwood. They get up there, she's going to sing for inauguration. Music doesn't work.
Starting point is 00:44:24 Just goes, I got it. No music. And sings. That's a professional. Crushes it. Yep. Let me just say, I didn't watch any of the ceremony, but you know, Shannon, I see what comes up on Twitter and TikTok, etc. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:36 I saw her mouth and I got it. Can you imagine knowing the world's watching you, Shannon just going, I got it? She was amazing. and then everybody. That's kind of amazed. Everybody kind of started singing along with her. It was a really cool moment, actually. That is, that was for me the highlight of what I saw yesterday.
Starting point is 00:44:54 Like I said, I didn't see speeches and stuff. I saw Melania's hat, and your joke was funny shit and said, there's Carmen San Diego or whatever. Yeah, she did look like Carmen's in Diego. Yeah, that was quite a look. But Malanya, you know, she does a thing, whatever. Barron is 10 feet tall. Yes, he's a big man. When did he get so tall?
Starting point is 00:45:13 Was he like 6-7, 6-8? I don't know. And I think because he's so skinny, it makes it even like more. Yeah. I love the video of George W. Bush with his. Did you see the video where it looks like he's like looking around like a little child or a puppy? Did you see that video? I don't know if I've seen that one.
Starting point is 00:45:30 There's a video. People are using it as a meme. They're like when the edible kicks in and you're with your parents or whatever. But like you need to see George Bush is just looking around like. Hey, I remember this place. I'm watching it right now. I'm going to go ahead and tell you, there are no two big losers, bigger losers in the world than Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg. How did we get to where those people are sitting on the front row?
Starting point is 00:45:55 Front row. Those are the two biggest losers that I've ever seen. Now, Jeff Bezos was also on the front row. Did you see what his wife was wearing? You told me, and I'm going to Google it later. It looks to me, Shannon, like she wore braw only with jacket. I don't know how I missed that. there was an episode of Seinfeld about a woman that did this once that's what it looked like to me and there's another meme of Mark Zuckerberg looking at her have you seen that one no you need to see that one I got it now yep yeah Zuckerberg snuck a peek and then he like smiled like a little child
Starting point is 00:46:29 he was kind of strange um so I didn't like I did not watch any of it I intentionally didn't watch any of it. But I'm just going to tell you yesterday made me sad. Not because Trump's president. I've long accepted that. That's fine. But there were three things that happened back to back, Ryan, that make me sad. Okay.
Starting point is 00:46:56 I'm not mad. I think a lot of Trump people want liberals to be mad. That's why they go, you cry, lib. You know, they want you to be mad. I'm not mad. I was mad the first. 2016 during that time, I'd get mad. I'm not bad anymore.
Starting point is 00:47:11 Like, the thing about it is people know who Trump is. They wanted him, right? They voted for him. They wanted him. So we're going to get what people wanted. I get it. Three things made me sad, and it's going to be three different things, only one of which has to do with Trump.
Starting point is 00:47:26 First thing that made me sad. Joe Biden pardoning his family. Yeah. I understand why he pardoned his son. I don't necessarily agree with it, but I get it. Plus, he had been charged with the crime. But pardoning his family preemptively is bad. First of all, though a lot of people now who will think they did something, whether they did or not.
Starting point is 00:47:51 I understand. People go, why they pardon him if he didn't do anything? You know, he pardoned his sister who's like 80 years old. What could she have even done? She's like a, but either way, a preemptive pardon is bad. because it's going to like it'll now Trump will do that with his kids right he'll do that with his family and you're basically telling future presidents you can do this and then when you're president their family your family will know they can do whatever they want because they're going to get pardoned
Starting point is 00:48:25 because they're going to get pardon at the end pre i don't know maybe somebody can tell me i don't know that there have been preemptive pardons ever in american history maybe there have but i don't know of it. That's a terrible precedent. So when I saw that Joe Biden did that, I was very disappointed. Because a lot of, you know, I know it's easy to hate on him, but I've liked some of what he's done, not all but some, and I like him. But that was a huge mistake.
Starting point is 00:48:52 And if he was sitting right here, I'd go, that was a terrible decision. I get it. You don't want him to go after your family, but like there are things bigger than you, right? Yeah. Second, there was a preacher that gave like a little thing at the inauguration. see it, but I heard it was good. Okay? He gave like a rousing, whatever.
Starting point is 00:49:13 That's fine. I'm like, do your thing. Praise, you know, I'm all for praising God on that stage. But then the moment it was over, my man gets a cell phone out, creates a crypto coin, Shannon. What? Yes. I didn't see this.
Starting point is 00:49:28 Creates, says, I just walked off the inauguration. I've created a crypto coin. God, praise God, be the glory. Martin Luther King and then just creates crypto coin basically tries to scam everybody. Good grief. Is that where we are now that preachers are going to create scam coins? That's awful.
Starting point is 00:49:52 That's awful. You had this moment where like everyone saw you praising God and you used it to create a scam coin. I'm telling you the worst thing that has happened to Christianity. in the last 15 years is the way it is tied up in politics. That is the worst thing that can happen. God is not a Democrat. God is not a Republican. God doesn't care about human politics.
Starting point is 00:50:19 And to tie up that you have to be this party to believe in God. And then to take the stage, I'm fine with people praying at the inauguration. They should. But then to use that to try to make yourself money is shameful. It's shameful. Try to hawk a product right there. It's shameful.
Starting point is 00:50:35 Yep. And then third. The January 6th pardons. Some of them, I'm not like, you know, there were some people that it got wrapped up in that, got charged, that I, you know, I met a person once. I'm not going to say who, but I met a person who ended up in there, got charged and was like, I didn't even know what was going on. I just followed a group in. I'm sure that happened. But Trump pardoned some people yesterday who hit officers.
Starting point is 00:51:04 Like they're on video beating officers, and he just pardoned them. How? How do we accept that? There are people right now who like Trump who will defend that. Why? I'm not going to defend Biden's pardons. We can't just get to the point that we're fighting each other so much Republican and Democrat that we will defend things we know we're wrong just so the other side will eat it. And that's where we are right now with some people. We so want our side to win that will defend behavior we know is wrong and just go,
Starting point is 00:51:38 Cause it's my side. And then if you say, why did you do that, they'll go, well, what about what your guy did? And I want to be clear, when you start the whatabouts, which by the way I've done, you're just asking for terrible behavior. Because if I justify everything a Democrat does by what a Republican does, we're going to be in the pits doing terrible things to each other. Yeah. You know? Yep. So my guy did preemptive pardons that I think are shamedic.
Starting point is 00:52:08 But the other guy pardoned people who beat up officers just cause. I remember when that happened, people told me that they were Antifa. Well, then I guess he pardoned Antifa. But either way, like yesterday, to me, the behavior that everyone is accepting really depressing. And that's the last I'll say about it. We'll get to stuff that's much more fun after this on hour number two. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Starting point is 00:52:43 Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
