Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel,

Now, here's Matt Jones.
Welcome, everyone.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio Wednesday.
January the 22nd, I'm Matt Jones, where it is six degrees outside.
I'm one of the coldest days that I can remember in a long time.
You can give a shout on Clark's Puppet Shop, Foll Line, 859-280, 2287.

I'm in studio, so I'll get to decide who gets on.
And then the, yeah, this edition sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office, you call T.J.
I'll make them pay.
We're going to take calls here through the first hour.
And then we'll take a little break.
We have a guest coming on and then do it after that.
So Ryan is on his campus visit for his son, which also may be like his campus visit,
since he's basically thinking he's going to college next year.
Drew is in Nashville for an on three conference.
So Shannon is just me and you.
Are you ready to rock?
I am.
And I can't wait to see Ryan's pictures where he puts on like the team jersey and the helmet
and embarrasses his son.
You know that's going to happen.
Well, I mean, that's going to happen when he's in college the whole time.
Why is he just going to walk around with a helmet and a jersey?
If you were to, yes, exactly.
If you were to look up living vicariously through your child,
It would be a picture of Ryan Lemon, and he's going to do that as well.
You know, he always threatened to move to wherever Josiah went to school.
I don't know if that will happen at Hanover because it's a drive, but I could see it.
He is, you know, between me and you, he's going to be pretty sad.
He's going to be empty nester.
I think that's going to be tough for him.
He'll be all right.
And the good thing is he'll be within driving distance if he has to go to a game, right?
Yeah, that's true.
It's not like he's moving off to California or something.
kids in his, like people, there are people listening to this who know. If you have like three kids,
you know, you could be used to having some little snotty-nosed rug rat in your house for like
25 to 30 years, right? And then all of a sudden they're gone. That's got to be quite a change, isn't it?
30 years living with your kid, though. Not with one kid, but if you have multiple kids and you
space them out and you stagger them out, it might be 30 years you got some little thing running around.
I think Ryan can adapt, though.
He's got dogs, you know.
They can fill the void of the kids.
You get yappy dogs.
They are just as yappy as he is.
So I'm here in this building in Lexington where the Lexington studios are.
And Shannon, you may not know this building.
Mario's in here.
And he does.
This has become like, there's a lot of, you know, the kind of big time folks in Lexington.
They live in this building.
So if you get to the top, there's apartments up there.
There are UK, you know, staff members.
members that live up there. You've got like a lot of really rich people in Lexington that live
at the top of this building. So when you pull into the parking lot, you drive around like the cars.
I mean, there are in this parking lot. There's like a Maserati.
Ooh. All right. Did you know there was a Maserati in Lexington? No. I figured Ryan had already
damaged every Mazurati. There's a Maserati. There's like a couple of Porsches because the front row is like the top
row is for the rich people.
There's a cyber truck, which
you know my opinion about cyber trucks.
The problem is I know who drives this one,
but I want to be like, come on, man.
Give me this thing. And then you got all this stuff.
So it is like, it's almost like
a car show when you pull
into the, what's the name of this building?
What is it? City Center.
I think it's called City Center. When you pull into this
building, that top row of the garage
is like who can bling out
their car the best. So that's like
the level of all the rich people. So I
I got to ask you, where did you park?
Because you belong right there at the top with the Mazurati and the Elon Moss car.
No, I actually did park on the top level.
I took some one.
There's like eight general spots and I just, one of them was open, which is rare.
You come to that building like twice a year and you're already taking liberties at the very top of the parking space.
Well, you know, I'll park in, there's a coach's spot right there.
You park wherever you want.
Just pull up on a sidewalk at Dunkin' Donuts.
That's true.
All right.
So today, oh, I have one question for you.
One, and this is also for the audience, 772, 774, 5254.
So one of my drains last night closed, okay?
Yeah.
Like a shower drain.
And normally a shower drain would close, you know, you might have like gunk or hair in it and it would close slowly over time.
Shannon, you know, the water would take.
And then this went from 100% fine to close.
like the next day.
And I'm not sure why.
I call the plumber.
The plumber comes.
I mean, they're up there.
I'm hearing like drilling.
Drill baby drill.
Nothing.
Nothing is breaking it.
So it's not clearly like hair or anything.
Like nothing is breaking.
They have to come back today.
But here's my question for you.
These were nice guys.
All right.
So let me be clear.
Because they might listen to the show.
I don't know shit.
Nice guys.
guys, but I want a, what's the word here?
A dealing with people piece of advice from you or the listeners.
Okay.
I, when they come in from the snow, their feet are really muddy, okay?
From having walked from the thing, right, going through the snow, their feet are money.
I have, what do you call it, a thing on the ground, a mat.
What do you call it? A mat.
You know, my name.
Yeah.
A mat.
Minus one T.
I have a mat.
And I guess they didn't use it.
Because when they step in, I have hardwood floors.
There's dirt everywhere.
And as they go up the step, Shannon, which are also hardwood, there's like footprints on each step.
So I'm like, oh, they've traped in all this much.
But I thought, you know what?
They're doing me a favor.
It's fine.
But then they said they had to go back out and get something.
Yeah.
So I went through my head.
Do I say to them, will you please wipe your feet coming in?
Now, they're coming in to clean up my thing, right?
They're doing me a service.
Right.
They are charging me for them.
Yeah, it's not free.
You're paying them to be there.
So do you?
do you think that I should say before they come back in, hey man, can you guys not track in all of this mud?
100%. I mean, that's on them. That's a common courtesy. When you go to somebody's house,
you should wipe your feet, especially if you're walking through mud. And if you're a company that's
coming over to do a service, absolutely. Presumably they're used to doing it, right? Right, right.
So I did, but Shannon and I felt bad.
Why did you feel bad?
Well, because I could just tell one of the two of them didn't love that I said it.
I mean, I would say, look, unless you're going to clean this up.
And then they did go outside.
They did.
Well, I had to clean it up.
I was on my knees, cleaned it up the steps all the way up the thing.
Yeah.
But so you think it's not rude to ask them even though they're coming to clean their feet?
No, they were the rude ones by coming in with muddy feet.
It's a good thing you didn't have carpet.
That would have been a completely different conversation.
That's true.
Wipe up on hardwood.
Yeah, I think that's a bad look on them.
So I would have done the same thing.
Hey, wipe your feet.
What are you doing?
I've got to clean up this mess.
Now, maybe they were planning on coming back after the fact and cleaning up their mess.
That happens sometimes.
Maybe.
But if they didn't offer, then, yeah, I would have said, take your shoes off.
All right.
I just wanted to make sure because I didn't want to feel bad.
I felt a little bit bad about it.
Now, what I don't feel a bad about is the fire store.
I seem to have set off yesterday with my comments about Seth Greenberg.
So if you watch the and Jay Williams.
So if you watch the,
or if you listen to the show yesterday or you watch the video that came out,
I sort of said, hey, we don't need Seth Greenberg and Jay Williams to tell us how to be fans.
Most of those comments were about Seth.
But Jay also seemed to not like it.
And two things happened.
One of which is Jay Williams wrote and went,
blanket, let me come on there and whatever.
And I didn't, I was surprised to see that.
I've always gotten along pretty well with Jay.
I haven't talked to him much in recent years.
But then he texted me and said, let me come on the show.
And I said, okay.
So that's happening at 11 o'clock.
But I don't know, Shinn, and if this is a hostile takeover of the show, or if he just
wants to come on and chat, he's been on here many times, a couple of
conversations have always been pleasant. We were in school at the same time at Duke. I was in law school when he was an
undergrad. So it's always been been pleasant, but there was a little bit of the of the tweet that made it seem like,
is it possible? This is a hostile? Like, is it possible Ryan in Hanover is going to have to crawl under the
table at 11 o'clock? Good show for Ryan not to be here today. And I know you better to know that you're not
going to let anybody take over the show. But it did feel very hostile when he tweeted blanket.
You know, like I don't see Jay throwing too many four-letter words on Twitter, but he did last night at you.
It was, that was surprising to me.
So I honestly have no idea what we're, what we're, now when he texted me, it was completely polite.
So I'm going to lean towards he's going to be like not in ready to punch.
I hope he is.
But you know, Shannon, I have to be ready though.
Like I can't be, you know, I can't be, I can't be not ready.
So even though I think this is going to be gentle, my mind's got to be ready with jab, right?
Left hook, that's right, uppercut.
I got to be ready just in case.
You can't go into a fight with your hands down.
That's exactly right.
You can't be blindsided.
I mean, I might have spent some time last night having clips in case he says something.
Exhibit A.
Yeah, I may have come with evidence to show the jury if need be, Shannon.
I'm just saying, I'm not.
Now, if it's friendly, we don't have to do that.
But if it's not, like, I got, as the kids would say, I got the receipt that they might need, if need be.
Well, Billy and I were hyping it up on the pre-show like this is about to be a heavyweight fight.
You know, Holy Phil Tyson.
Well, we'll see.
I don't know.
That's going to all be up to him, right?
Yeah.
We just got to see what.
So I think we'll know within two minutes what level of hostility.
Because I intentionally did not call him on the phone because I wanted to leave.
You know, I wanted to leave it for the air.
Because I thought if I called him, like, he'd get all of his stuff out then.
I'd rather just leave it for the air.
Well, I hope if he is hostile, it's legitimate and it's not fake hostility just for the radio.
No, no, no, I don't want that.
You know, if he's going to bring it, I want him to bring it.
We're not out here producing fake conflict.
No.
We got to, I have enough real conflict in my life, which gets me to the other guy.
Seth.
So, Seth, on the other hand, I put that out.
And in that comment, of course, I say something to the effect of that he sent, he has sent angry, hostile text to me in the past.
You have seen them, right, Shannon?
I have read them.
I was like, whoa.
Can't believe he texted that to you.
Not one, not two.
Yeah, several.
But three college basketball commentators retweeted my video and said, oh, I guess I'm not the only one that gets them from Seth.
I mean, Rob Doster, Jeff Goodman, and Sam Vassini, all three said the same thing.
And unbeknownst to me, Shannon, we created a college basketball commentator online conversation last night about Seth and his communications when he gets angry.
What did you think of that?
I just wonder, like, do you have anybody in your life other than, like, you know, your parents?
But like, do you have a friend in your life that you would be willing to go to bat so much for that you would be.
willing to text another person
the things that he texted at you.
Yeah.
I don't know that I do.
I mean,
I have many,
no,
no,
I have many people I would go to bat for.
But I mean,
but the things he sent to me.
That's what I'm saying.
I can't imagine sending to someone
even if they said something about me.
That's what I'm saying?
Like, man,
Seth really loves some cow.
And then I was shocked to see,
It was interesting to see that other people have said that.
Like he's done that to other people, not just me.
Multiple other people.
Over Cal or just other things in general.
I don't know what the others were about.
But it's like, you know, I would say to Seth, like, this is basketball.
Why are you getting so upset at people?
Not just me.
It's one thing to get upset at me, Shannon.
And if you're talking about getting upset at me, get in a lot.
That wouldn't make me feel so bad if I knew that other people were getting the same type of text that I were.
So last night I was like, I got Jay Williams coming on the show.
I went and hit the hard bag or the, what do you call it?
There's a soft bag and a hard bag.
Is that right?
Well, you got the speed bag.
Heavy bag.
Sorry, speed bag and the heavy bag.
Soft, hard, whatever.
It's being heavy.
And then we got, I'm not the only one that Seth comes about.
that made me feel better. 8.59-280-2-87. We're going to make this for me and Shannon and
ask anything Wednesday. No game this week. So we got a lot of openings of places to go.
Jay's going to be on at 11, but we'll talk about anything up until then. Got some other stuff
to get to. Nice to be with my man, STD. Appreciate that. Here's that. Yeah. Well,
very unfortunate initials. You're the only, you're the only STD I have and I'm not even going to get it
We'll take a break.
We're right back.

you conquer them. On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women

I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that

Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
You know, I hear the Louisville feed.
So for those of you all in Lexington, I don't get to hear the commercials you listen to.
I hear the Louisville one.
And I don't know who does it, Shannon.
But sometimes, I don't know if they're asleep.
They just run like seven straight of that voiceover guy going,
this is Kentucky's Boards Radio.
This is Kentucky's.
It's like he's trying different tones of voice over and over.
That's the spot where they probably had to run a PSA but didn't have one or something.
So they had to fill that in there for 15 seconds.
But like, why do we do that?
Why do we run that seven straight times?
What if I told you it was actually your fault?
Why do you think it was my fault?
Because there's a certain amount of exact time.
Like that last break, I think it was three minutes exactly.
and sometimes when
you record a spot for us
you might give us a minute and a half
you might give us 50 seconds
Oh you know what I'm busy right now
Don't know don't blame in this stuff
So when something comes up
You know ten second short
They got a thought of stuff
And that's what it is
I got some stuff here to do
Hey uh
I wouldn't
That was not supposed to turn around back on me
859
2807 people are telling me
There's and I didn't think about this
booties.
You're supposed to wear those.
You're supposed to wear foot, foot, foot, foot, booties into people's houses.
Why didn't they do that?
Well, that's what I was going to ask you.
I mean, I don't want to throw this company under the bus.
I'm not either.
I'm not going to say which one because the guys were nice and even though it's not fixed yet,
they're going to fix it, I think.
So I think it's like, but.
That should be a normal part of service, especially when it's muddy and wet outside.
It feels like it should have been.
What person writes, Matt?
only thing I'd be disappointed in is if you let Jay Williams win the conversation, you better
not back down just because you're boys.
Well, come on.
Have you ever known me to like?
No.
You know, I, the amount of people in media that I consider really my friends, like really
my friends, are the people on this show, Tony Vanetti and Terry Miners, Nick Coffey.
And that's probably it.
Like there's other people that I'm acquaintances with.
Right.
You know what I mean?
And I'm acquaintances with them.
But like the job is more important because I don't, it's not like they're at my house.
You know what I mean?
Besides that, like their acquaintances.
They're not friends.
Kind of like coaches.
I mean, you got to.
Yes.
You can't really be that close of friends with a coach because sometimes you've got to be
critical of them.
I've become friends.
I've said this many times with two people at UK, Dwayne Peevy and Vince Merrill.
I'll never become friends with another one.
not that I regret my friendships with Vince and Dwayne
but it does Shannon put you in a spot where you got to be
like it's hard because they're your friend
yeah it's good to be friendly it's good to have that connection
yes I'll never do it with another one
because Dwayne's gone so like obviously that's
fine but with Vince you know it is hard
Vince is my friend but pretty much everyone else
like I think I think Greg Doyle's advice to me a long time ago
don't be your friend because once you
become friends and we see this with Seth, you cannot be objective.
Seth Greenberg cannot be objective about Cal and that's just how it is.
You know, when you're in the media, you have a responsibility to be honest, to be real.
And you can't do that when you're criticizing somebody that's a good friend of yours.
It makes it almost impossible to do.
When you get in your 40s, do you want any new friends anyway?
No.
Like all of my friends, my friends that I have.
Yeah, why do you need new ones?
I've had for at least 20 years at this point.
When you start to meet people in your 40s, then they usually want something from you.
Yep.
You know what I mean?
You got to go with the people from, Mario, that's a good lesson for you, the day one people.
All right.
Before, when you become a big star, you just remember the day one people.
Kate, how are you, Kate?
Hey, I'm good.
Well, you answered the question about what are you doing?
Somebody's coming in your house with mud on your feet.
But I asked them to wear booties when I make the call.
So, would you mind having them make sure there's a pair of booties in the...
So let's say they get there.
and say they get there and they don't have their booty out,
would you tell them, like, would you say,
hey, I need you to put that on before you come in?
Put those out.
They say I don't have any.
And guess what?
I keep a pair.
I keep a box of them in the closet right by my front door.
See, I don't know that I, Shannon, I'll never be that prepared for life
that I will have a box of booties in my house next to the door for people who come in.
I'll never, I know me.
I'll never be that prepared.
That shouldn't be your responsibility.
Yeah.
It's just one step ahead of everybody, it sounds like.
Yeah, Kay, you're just, you're just better than us.
No, no, no.
But I have one other thing I wanted to go back to, but thank you for the compliment.
Last week, you were talking about Tyler Childers.
And you listen to song Charleston Girl, I do believe.
Yes.
Just so you, you probably are a step ahead of me on this, but just so you know, do you know who Charleston Girl is?
I do not.
No.
Sierra Farrell.
You know who that?
is? Yeah, she's like a country singer. Is that who it's about?
Yeah, that was his girlfriend, Charleston Girl. And she has a great song, Endering, go listen to it.
I mean, she's made it big now, but Sierra.
All right, well, there you go. I didn't know that. I appreciate the call.
She's also a country singer. Do you, I love Todd of Children's. I saw it. You know, it's April 19th is when he's there at Kroger Field.
Oh, really? Yeah. Is that already sold out?
There's an amazing, I don't think it is because there's an, on UK's campus,
you know, they got that building where Kennedy Bookstore used to be.
And now it's like this real fancy building.
And they put ads on the wall of the building like you're in like Times Square.
And there was a huge one last night of Tyler Childers.
It was like his face.
I thought, man, that doesn't look like something that would be in Lexington.
It was like right there on campus, just this huge on the building projection.
of Tyler Chilke's amazing how quickly he has shot up.
I've never even heard of the guy until you brought him up and he was playing little bars
and now he's playing.
I saw him in Amsterdam with 30 people just six years ago and now you got seven years ago.
Ed in Michigan.
What's up, Ed?
Hey, Matt.
Remember when you had Big Willie on a few days ago last week?
Yes.
Okay, and you played on the Willie Colleystein man's song?
Yes.
All right.
Well, they got it much better.
song you should have played him was called Big Willie and it's done by Scott Collins.
Y'all guys check it out.
I'm sure I'm sure you'll love it.
All right.
I appreciate the call.
But the point of playing that song for Willie was not because it was good.
The point of playing it was because it was bad.
That was why we were.
But he loved it though.
Yeah, I think Willie, I said this to him when it was over.
Willie's one of the first people that played for Cal that I think could.
do media, like for real.
You know, I think the standard for me for former players doing media is high.
I think there's a lot of former players that do it that aren't even necessarily very good at it.
I think for former UK players, Rex and Jack have been the best.
It might Pratt, of course, back in the day.
But I think Willie, if he applied himself, could do it because he's smart, he's personable,
he's good at storytelling.
I told him that after me.
If you ever really want to do this, I think you could.
We'll take a break.
859-2-80-2-807's KSR.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J.
He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Here we go.
Come on now.
Like, I don't, I tell you.
Turn on 98 Wonder Bowl.
Find me a better song than this.
Do they even play this stuff?
He doesn't even, first of all, no, never when they play this song.
Secondly, like it's just,
And well, and the writing, it's just great.
Charleston girl.
859-280-2287, you and I were cracking up during the break.
That dude's commercial.
I don't know how he, how did that pass?
Like, how do they put that out?
What's his name?
Is it Russ McDowell?
I should know his name.
I mean, he runs at every single break.
I think it's like Russ McDow.
The timeshare guy, right?
It's the timeshare guy.
Like a lot of you, I'm sure all of you who've listened have heard it.
But he's like this old guy.
And he was like, I'm not a lawyer.
I don't even want you to think I'm a lawyer.
If you think I'm a lawyer, I'll whip that tail.
If I sound like a lawyer, I apologize.
How did he make that commercial?
Who cleared that?
Well, I just want to know, like, who, you know, said that this guy was a lawyer to begin with?
Does he walk around if people go, I think he's a lawyer?
Who accused this guy being a lawyer?
lawyer like somebody.
I'm not a lawyer.
So during the break, I was doing my
impersonation of that
commercial and I got so
into it, I actually dropped
a bad word.
Shannon looked up quickly like, oh no,
did they go for the air?
I mean, it was entertaining.
Sometimes it shows more entertaining off the air than it is.
I completely agree with you.
One person, especially which is me and you.
One person writes, Matt, I think the
problem is BB Ed feels like they have to win all of the online conversations instead of allowing
others to have different opinions and that's why announcers don't like us. Maybe so, but
here's the thing. When these announcers go on TV, they're making an argument and what bothers
them is they say their argument in their little TV world and then when somebody goes, wait a minute,
I have a different opinion, it infuriates them. I like. I like.
when people disagree with me online so long as they don't like get personal and like cuss at me or something.
But I expect people to disagree.
But there's nothing worse than listening to two people who are not UK fans, tell UK fans what they should believe about their program.
That's so ridiculous.
And that was my point yesterday.
You know, I can have an opinion of what Republicans should do.
But at the end of the day, I'm not a Republican.
So like they get to decide.
Same thing with me.
Like I'm a Kentucky fan.
You are not.
And so when you tell me what, what bothered me about CESCOM, it was real Kentucky fans.
Yeah.
Like I'm a real Kentucky fan.
Seth is not.
He doesn't get to decide who a real Kentucky fan is because he ain't part of the group.
And we heard that you mentioned it yesterday, that same verbiage, real Kentucky fan.
It was the real that bothered.
Yeah, yeah.
Like Jay's comments I disagreed with, but they didn't bother me.
Cess bothered me because I'm, like, you don't get to say what real is because you ain't one of us.
And you're not going to win an online conversation or argument with our fan base.
I mean, Jay even said, we got the biggest fan base.
We do have the loudest microphone of anybody.
No doubt.
All right, I want to ask you a question.
Do you know who Shannon, Jack?
Schlosberg is.
No, I don't.
Should I?
Mario, do you know Jack Schlossberg?
He's kind of, he's online.
He is JFK's grandson, I believe.
Yes, he's JFK's grandson.
I don't know which of the kids he's, but like he, he's like in his 30s, women think he's
handsome and he's on TikTok a lot and he's always making like jokes and stuff.
So he's kind of online famous.
Okay.
He tweeted out.
He showed a picture.
of J.D. Vance's wife, right, who was at the inauguration, who is very, you know, this is beautiful.
She looked great at the inauguration. Jady Vance's wife and he said, who is hotter?
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis or J.D. Vance. And here's the problem.
Jacqueline Kennedy is his grandma.
That's a little weird. Okay. That was his grandma.
Yeah.
So he's basically saying, who's hotter, my grandma, or J.D. Vance's wife.
And of course, a lot of people on the internet were like, ugh, that's weird.
We're talking about grandma in our prime?
Why would you be asking people about how hot your grandma is?
It's like, that's not weird.
It was just a conversation.
Shannon, I'm going to say, that's really weird.
to me. Is it weird to you?
Absolutely it is. And again, we're talking
about grandma in our later years or grandma
when she was the same age as JD. I don't think
you should be talking about how hot your grandma
is to begin with. No, I agree.
I agree with you. It's just a weird
standard to begin with.
Who's tweeting?
Who's tweeting out, though, who's hot
or my grandma or this woman right
here? Who's asking that question?
Unless he's just trying to
trash J.D. Vance's wife.
I don't think he was.
though, because I think he complimented her in the tweet.
To me, there's a lot of weird stuff that goes out there.
But asking people to write your grandma in an attractiveness scale to me is one of the weirdest.
That just is one of the cringier things I can think of.
That's definitely strange.
Do we have a delay?
Are we on a delay here?
Maybe.
Well, I don't know.
We'll see.
Scott, go ahead, Scott.
Yeah, there is a delay.
Maybe you can figure it out during the break.
Got a quick question.
Nothing against Mark Pope.
I think he was a perfect pick for our team.
But why was, why is like Bruce Pearl now on the never talk to list?
Say that again.
For UK, why was Bruce Pearl on the never talked to list?
Yeah, yeah.
Why was he never considered?
Y'all may have answered it before, but I don't want to listen much as I like to.
I couldn't give you the exact reason because I wasn't in the,
the room. But I've talked about when
Mark Pope was hired, there were four coaches.
There was a list of eight.
There were three at the very top
that was Danny Hurley, Scott Drew, and Billy
Donovan. And then there was a list of probably
six that were in the next tier.
That list included Mark Pope.
It included Shaka Smart.
And then it included four people that all got
scratched by the hires up.
So I think these were some people that were on Mitch's
list. But then people hire
up. Now, I don't know if it was the president or the board. I'm not sure. But people hire
up said, we can't talk to him. It was Nate Oates. It was Bruce Pearl. It was Sean Miller. It was
Sean Miller. It was Sean Miller. There was Sean Miller. There were obviously personal
issues that I think everybody knows about. For Nate Oates, I think there's
was something like going on that made it hard for him to leave Alabama.
I don't really know a lot about that either.
And then for Bruce Pearl, it was his NCAA problems that he had had at Tennessee.
And for the higher-ups at Kentucky, that struck all four of those people off the list
so that the final decision was going to be between Mark Pope and Shaka Smart.
It might have been Mark Pope anyway, even if all those people had been on the list.
I don't know.
But that's what it was in the end.
Okay, okay.
I didn't know if it was something deeper than that, or it just needs a clarification.
Or like I said, I think, you know, Pope is the perfect pick for us.
What what he's doing?
And I just curiosity.
I appreciate it.
Yeah.
Appreciate the call.
I mean, you know, they focused initially, Shannon, on those top three candidates.
Yep.
They got two nose with Danny Hurley and Scott Drew.
And then Billy Donovan, they kept playing, right?
They kept playing.
So they ended up where they couldn't basically.
take the, you know, wait any longer, which got them to that second tier. And then it became a lot
easier because on that second tier, a lot of those guys got knocked off. I, along with a lot of people
really wanted Danny Hurley here, but after watching him this season, he's a loose cannon. I don't
know that that would have worked here at Kentucky. And maybe credit to Mitch. Well, I want to say that.
Let's talk about that in the next second. I want to talk about that because that is, that is,
him last night was a whole other thing. Right. Yeah. Like, I mean,
he's on one.
But we'll save that for just a minute.
It sounds like you got caught back up however you did that.
I don't know.

This is the song that Mario doesn't know.
It's too young.
This is old school.
Yeah.
Brand new flavor in your ear.
He didn't know it.
And he was like, what is this?
and I felt like, come on, man.
You're going to teach these youngsters.
Hang it out with Mario makes me feel old, man.
It makes me realize.
Like, he doesn't know anything from like.
He thinks Drake is the best rapper of all time.
It's like, come on, man.
Were you alive during Biggie and Tupac?
Like, do you remember that that existed?
So Mario's the one.
And he was.
And the answer is, I was not.
That's his answer.
Yeah.
859-280-2287.
Text machine, 772-7-7-7-4.
one person writes, Matt, what do you think about Danny Hurley's?
If he had come here, would it have worked?
Well, he would have won, but I think the rest of it would have been a lot.
So last night, he gets into it with a referee, Danny Hurley.
He gets into it with a referee, and the referee is talking to him and he's yelling at him.
So a referee does what a lot of referees do, Shannon, they walk away, right?
Yep.
It's like, I'm not going to deal with this.
he screams at him and then says something like,
how are you walking away from me?
I'm the best bleeping coach in college basketball.
Which is a...
I think he believes that.
Wow.
Well, no.
Of course he believes that.
I mean, I know he believes that.
And I'm not even...
He might be right, Shannon.
Let's be real.
He's won two straight titles.
At Connecticut, like, I think he deserves a lot of.
credit. But I can't believe he said that to a ref. And he got caught on camera. So after the
game, of course, the media is like, hey man, did you just yell this? And his answer was, yes,
but why don't you all put the cameras on the other coaches as much as you do me? Well, because
they're not the best bleeping coaching college basketball, Danny Hurley. Like who with whom
Much as given, much as expected.
He's the most arrogant coach in the country.
I'm not saying he can't be because they're winning,
but I couldn't believe he said that.
Yeah, the camera is always on him because he's over there screaming like a madman.
Loses it.
And, yeah, that's what I was going to ask you last segment.
Like, I don't, yes, he would have won here.
There's no doubt about that.
But he is not a Mitch Barnhart guy.
First of all, he and Mitch Barnhart would have killed each other.
If Danny Hurley and Mitch Barnhart were together, they would have killed each other.
I had someone who's very close to Mitch, and I will just leave it at that,
say to me that while Mitch felt like he had to go after him,
there was a deep breath when it was over because Mitch's thought was,
I'd have just been going from one of those guys to the other.
Yep.
It feels like he and John Calipari have a very similar.
Very similar.
Now, Cal, I don't think Cal is quite.
quite as arrogant, as strange as that sounds, or at least he expresses his arrogance differently.
But like, and then think about, if you think the spotlight is on you at Yukon dude,
what if he was doing that stuff here, Shane?
Like if he was doing that stuff here, he's leading PTI every day with it.
And I don't know if that dude could handle that scrutiny, Shannon, on a daily basis.
Yeah, I don't know that he could have either.
And again, it's just like Calipari.
when you're winning, you can get away with a lot.
We saw it. He's going to get away with it.
But when you lose and you're acting like a lunatic, it's not going to work out here for you.
He's a lunatic.
Luckily, though, for him, he wins.
And so he's able to do it.
Hard to be humble when you're, you know, back-to-back national champion.
It's hard to be humble when you're perfect in every way, right?
What does that guy's name that thing?
Will, go ahead, Will.
Hey, Matt, you know, my disdain for Seth Greenberg, I don't know if he's,
anybody remembers this, but when Tubby left,
he was on Sports Center, you know, that afternoon,
basically insinuating that we had ran Tubby off because of his race.
And, you know, not to take an account,
maybe Tubby's friends, like he has Cal's friends,
that the program was kind of dropping down,
and Tubby left on his own accord.
But that's really where my thing started.
I don't know if he might remember.
Yeah, I don't remember him specifically saying that,
But here's another message to announcers, because this happens every time.
Every time a coach leaves, people say to us, Kentucky basketball will never be great again if you lose this.
And they are all wrong, every one of them.
They were wrong when Rick Patino left.
They were wrong when Tubby Smith left.
They were wrong when John Caliperi left.
And they might be wrong one day if Mark Pope ever leaves.
Kentucky basketball is bigger than any one coach.
Part of what used to frustrate me about even some of our own younger fans,
like, what are we going to do if Cala Berry leaves is because this program,
look, Cal was great for a while here, but we'll find another coach.
Now, we'll get Dudd sometimes.
We had a Dudd with Billy Gillespie.
But you know what'll happen after the Dudd?
The next coach, we'll find a great one too.
And the program takes great, very good coaches and makes them great.
That's what Kentucky does.
Takes very good coaches and makes them great.
With the exception maybe of Cal,
we've never taken a coach, Shannon, that was already great.
They've all been guys who are really, really good,
and then we help take them to the next level.
Yep.
The brand is already established.
The brand is here.
And it always will be here.
That's exactly right.
That's another thing you talk about feeling sorry for Cal.
When you make comments like, hey, it's the same thing.
We're just moving it to a different.
different city, Cal University.
Yeah, and how that work out? How'd that work out? He's 0 and 5.
That's what tried to move the same thing to a different city is. And so these announcers,
they all believe that their guy leaves and this falls apart. And if there's one thing
we've seen over the years, it ain't going to fall apart because of one person, I don't
care who the person is. They can be replaced. The one thing that matters is that name on the
front of the jersey. Jordan.
What's up, Jordan?
Hey, Matt. First time, long time.
Who are? What's up?
Me and my best friend, also a huge UK fan, are at odds right now over hypothetical.
I'm hoping you could help us out with this.
Go for it.
So we had talked about the next five games are pretty crucial for us.
And we were talking about being four and one.
We would be thrilled.
Yeah.
So, Rita, it's what, at Vandy, at Tennessee,
Arkansas at home and then what are the next two?
Ole Miss. We have South Carolina and Old Miss.
South Carolina at home, Old Miss on the road, right?
Yes.
Four and one would be great.
Yes. Form one would be great because you're playing two games at Old Miss and at Tennessee
that I think you could easily lose either one, then you've got to hold serve and the other three.
For sure. So the hypothetical one with the one being Arkansas, or would you
go three and two.
Three and two and beat Arkansas.
Appreciate the call.
Three and two and beat Arkansas.
We can't, I mean, losing to Arkansas,
especially with the start they have,
and now, as we'll talk about Boogie Flan-Dow,
he can't lose to Arkansas.
No, that's the one game.
I mean, and three of those are very winnable games.
The other two would be tough.
You could lose at Tennessee and at Ole Miss.
Still be all right.
Yeah.
Still be all right for the tournament.
Because we're not going to win the SEC.
I don't think either way.
So we'd still be all right for the tournament.
We got some breaking news, but I just got like five seconds, right?
You got like a minute.
Oh, I got a minute.
Okay.
Breaking news.
Liam Cohen announces he will get, well, the Bucks announce a raise for Liam
Coleman.
He pulls himself out of all coaching searches and will stay with the Bucks as the offensive
coordinator.
Whoa.
That's surprising.
Because he was probably going to get, it looked like he was going to get the Jacksonville
job.
Yeah.
I mean, we've thought for the longest time, his goal was to be a head coach.
you would think he would take it.
Yeah, it's interesting.
I wonder why that is.
I don't know.
Money?
Is it possible that he got paid more to be an assistant coach?
Last night they reported that he was being hired by Jacksonville, so I texted Tony
Khan with Jacksonville said, congrats on Liam Cohen.
He's awesome.
Oops.
Has he read it yet?
Does the red receipt on there?
Can I get that?
Can I delete that?
Unsend.
Oh, no.
All right.
Well, when we come back.
