Now, here's Matt Jones.
Welcome, everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio.
Thursday, January the 23rd.
I'm Matt Jones on like our 25th consecutive frigid day here in Kentucky.
It's, I think, supposed to get a little bit warmer over the next couple days.
but it's a little, you know, I think I'm over it now.
You know, I enjoyed the snow, enjoyed the ice, but, like, there comes a point.
That's enough.
Heatway right now, we've gone from 1 to 21.
I mean, it's a big jump.
It snowed, uh, it's snowed nine inches in New Orleans.
That has to feel, like, so that can't be right.

You call T.
T.J. He'll make them pay.
We'll be taking your calls all day.
Shannon, I want to thank you yesterday.
Got a lot of compliments about you and that co-host row.
You were rocking and rolling there.
Well, that was a lot of fun.
But, you know, your interview with Jay, I think, just was the best part about it, no doubt.
The entertainment.
Well, it was certainly the most talked about part about it.
But you, I thought you did great.
I went back.
I don't usually go back and listen to show, but I had to drive to Louisville, so I did.
And I thought you did a great job.
and we missed you too, who are back.
Ryan was on a campus visit to Hanover.
Did you feel like you were back in college?
We ate in the college cafeteria.
I was in there with all the students eating lunch.
It's so much better than when we were in school.
They had buffets.
They had a salad bar.
I can't remember the last time I even saw a salad bar.
Oh, dear, I love a good salad bar.
I know.
What's the place over here, Jason's deli?
He's like the last place I think of where you can get at.
Since COVID, they were all gone.
Yeah, the, when I sometimes, you know,
You know, Georgetown, my class was at 1.30.
It's got moved up to 1, so it's hard for me to get there now to eat.
But when it was at 1.30, I'd go in their cafeteria and eat, and it's crazy how good it is.
These kids today, they have it so good, and they don't even know it.
Yeah, and all the different choices, different lines to get in.
It was amazing.
So thank you.
Drew, you were in Nashville.
Everything solid with the On 3 World.
Saw lots of PowerPoints, lots of spreadsheets.
Met people from other fan sites.
You know, I've been doing this job over 15 years, but we never interact.
So I actually felt like I was part of a big, bigger company.
But were you like, you were kind of the king, though, because like KSR just, we dwarf all of them.
I mean, I just looked down on all of them.
Yeah.
No, no, it was really fun.
We had lots of fun, but it was a lot of, like, being a part of a business.
Look at this presentation.
Session three, we're going to talk about this.
Yeah, when I owned it, it wasn't part of it.
We didn't do it in spreadsheets.
When I owned it, it was like, hey, the site has crashed again.
can we call them again and see if we can fix it?
So we got in here, we're at KS. Bar and Grill, we got Letcher County, we got Barberville, and we got
Aversville, look at this.
How about that?
This is Eastern Kentucky in the house here.
And we're supposed to get more Eastern Kentucky people here later this morning.
Yeah, the South Laurel KSR Club is coming, which we'll see.
Are they big KSR fans, or did they just want out of up?
Look, the bus just pulled up.
Oh, there it is.
Or did they just want out of school?
Hello there, Laurel County.
It's a big bus for this show.
That is a big bus.
I think it would be funny if they had that big bus in like three kids.
But nevertheless, we're excited to have them here.
As Shannon mentioned, yesterday had Jay Williams.
That seemed to be the talk of the Internet yesterday.
Well, first of all, you guys weren't here.
What was your take on it from afar?
I really like Jason Williams start with because.
It goes by Jeff.
Jay, yeah.
Yeah, Jason was, he hasn't been that in 20 years.
There were too many of those in basketball.
Yeah, there was too many, and one of them got charged with murder.
So I think he changed his name.
I think he changed his name to Jay after that.
I've always liked him since he found my wallet at Rupp Arena and gave it to you at the
Cal Camp like five or six years ago.
Oh, I forgot about that.
Yeah.
That's right.
He did, he did find your wallet.
Yeah.
So I respect him because he knew coming on, M.J was going to do M.J.
And M.J. was going to come after him.
People seem to be really focused on him calling me M.
I've never heard anybody call you M.
But you guys are boys.
You're boys, so you're MJ.
He had to know you're going to come out there.
And there were times like I felt like he was a suspect on the witness stand
and you were giving him a cross-examination.
That's where I debt 100% would have been underneath this table
if I was sitting here beside you.
Yes.
And for him, he acted like I felt like he was kind of, Shannon said this,
talking in circles, try to defend himself,
but never really were saying the right things.
But the way it ended made me feel pretty good about it.
Yeah, I thought he did himself like a five.
It seemed like people's reaction for the most part,
was positive towards him at the end.
I think he did himself a favor.
He did.
Coming on.
You know,
he's used to this whole, like, first take world.
So, like, he loved it when it was over.
He was sending me, like, fire emojis.
Like, that was great.
Like, he, I mean, I think he's just kind of used to that whole thing.
And so he was, he was loving it.
What did you think about it, Drew?
Yeah, here they come.
Boy, no, there's a lot of them.
Wow, this is quite a group.
Okay.
This is a big group.
How are you all?
Yes.
just have a seat wherever you got you all can take those yeah there's all those tables over there
yeah but go ahead i'm with ryan not to take away from the content i couldn't believe how many times
he called you in j i even texted someone i was like i can't pay attention because he just keeps saying
mj yeah i guess that's just what he does but that was throwing me off i'm with uh i saw most of the
online reaction i think everyone kind of on the same page it was good he did if i have a jubb jw complaint
He acted like he wasn't insinuating that Kentucky was in a bad spot when Cal left.
He was definitely on that.
He was definitely insinuated.
No, I was just saying who.
Yeah, he was definitely insinuating that part.
He was twisting his words a little bit.
We weren't falling for it.
We all know he was saying who you're going to get like Cal's leaving.
And then yesterday he was like, no, I was just asking, who's the list?
I was just saying who could it possibly?
That was, I didn't fall for that.
Yeah, I mean, it's just that's not true.
But with that said, I wanted to, you know, I went back and listened.
And when I went back and listened, I was like, yeah, I wish I had not interrupted him as much as I did.
Because, like, you're right.
I kind of had him on the witness stand.
But, you know, that was probably slightly too much.
I do want to thank the 900 of you who felt like you needed to write me to say something like that.
I don't understand the people who are fans of this show who think it's somehow productive to tell me when you, like, think something was.
really like i i i get it i stood out of a tweet that i thought i was a little but it is amazing
how people who claim to like the the show can be so like nasty in their responses and then go
hey but hey man still love you yeah i'm gonna go to their job and go you know what the way you
the way you did that plumbing was just but you know what still love you still a fan of your pipes
still a huge fan of uh of all your pipes so but thank you very much my other big takeaway and until
later, I thought this was Shannon, the heavily edited clip that had like dramatic music behind
it when you played Jay's back through them. Yeah, that wasn't us. At first I thought Shannon
spiced that out. That was awkward because it did look like Shannon had made that somebody online.
It was the first time I had heard that clip too. Yeah, it was a little, it was a little
much. Good, good, good, good. Got Shannon had cut an OVW promo for him. But it was, I really enjoyed
having him again he he and i go way back but we really haven't spent a lot of time together in
recent years um so it was nice to to talk with him and i thought like i said i think in the long run
he actually did himself i do too a service with the uk fans i think people were more positive
about him after than they were before well i think it's because how they ended it you know he finally
like hey man look i probably shouldn't have said that i'm sorry but i'm on live tv for four hours i'm
say some things that aren't right sometimes.
I get that.
I do too.
Anybody whose job it is to sit and talk all the time,
you're going to say something that people are going to disagree with.
Like you just are.
My overall point in that conversation, though, still is the same,
which is these dudes that have close relationships with coaches,
they're just, even like yesterday,
he was like, well, I'm not going to say he can't turn it around.
I mean, I get that, but then you guys are fine.
He said, I criticize Mick Cronin.
Well, you're not friends with Mick Cronin, right?
Like, it's easy to criticize people you're not friends with.
I just think that makes it tough.
I also think, you know, I watched the Cal game last night.
They came back and won.
He had a little bit of a flurry.
But I just wish people, here's the bottom line, is that caller called and said after.
If Kentucky stunk this year and Arkansas was good,
all those guys would be throwing it in our fight.
Sure they would.
All of them.
Sure they would.
I don't know why they get angry or whatever if you do the opposite back.
And they're just, they're low, they're not going to say Cal, you know, they're not going to criticize now.
And so that's it.
That's that.
Yeah, I mean, game day is about to ramp up now that football is over.
It starts this weekend.
And if Pope had their record, there would be a graphic with a Pope with a frown on his face.
And it would say, O and 5, B, being in trouble.
should they have split ways with Cal, and that would be the number one segment.
So since it's the other way, we're allowed to have that segment on our show.
So let's say that I think they're going to Auburn, Tennessee this weekend for game day.
If you look at the schedule, the smart thing for them to do probably next week would be going to Kentucky Arkansas.
Sure it is.
I mean, that's the smart thing to do.
They haven't announced it.
If they came in, what do you think the reaction would be to at least the Seth and Jay part of it?
Well, first of all, you know, the last few times they've come to Rupp,
we haven't really gotten great crowds for that.
Do you think people would come for this one?
Because the game's not to nine, and that shows at 11 a.m.
I think we've seen how our fan base is around this team and around Pope.
I think they absolutely would show up for it and feel it.
I think Jay Williams would probably get applause.
I think Seth Greenberg probably won't get applause.
You think Seth would get booed?
I think there's part of the people that will be there that will definitely boo him.
I think he would get angry if he'd get booed.
I think unlike some of those people who would play along with the crowd,
Seth might try to argue with everyone in the crowd about why he's getting booed.
Seth would definitely get booed.
It would be Digger Phelps all over again.
He'd then try to tell the crowd why they shouldn't boo him
because he's right about this and then he would get further booed.
We have a hiccup, though.
That's Duke, North Carolina, and that game's on ESPN.
Oh, that's Duke, North Carolina?
So, yeah, they'll go to that one.
They'll go to that one.
It's at Duke, 6 o'clock on ESPN.
Never mind.
I thought that game.
We needed Arkansas to be a little better for it to come here.
Yeah, they're going to Duke, North Carolina then.
So, I mean, I'm trying to think, is there a game where we will get game day?
We play Tennessee on a Tuesday.
I guess that Auburn game, if we were good going into that Auburn game, then maybe it would happen.
Yeah, unless Big Blue History tells me I'm wrong, we were looking through this.
I don't think game day's been here since before COVID.
Has it been that long?
2019 was the last year.
We've been at Kansas and Game Day was there and at another SEC school, but they haven't brought
the production to Lexington. Yeah, that Auburn game is probably our chance to have it,
because it's a Saturday. They could be number one or two in the country at the time.
Ryan, if we're going to do it, that would probably be the time.
And I think they would want to do that.
Kentucky's such a hot-button topic on the success that Mark Pope's having his first year.
I think they'd want to come and capitalize on that.
All right, so let's talk about just real quick.
Arkansas got their first win. Did you watch the game?
I watched almost every second of it.
I'll tell you this.
The Arkansas games are a brutal watch, man.
I mean, they're just a brutal watch.
But they got hot in the second half.
They get a win.
Be honest, Drew, were you pulling for them in the last couple minutes?
Well, I didn't watch it.
That was my thing.
I've done this three times now.
I watched the whole first half, and I said,
I cannot keep giving my weekday nights to bad basketball in John Calipari,
and I turned it off and watch Severance.
Get text that Adu's at the free throw line and catch the last second.
But I was in, and it was just so hard to watch.
I quit watching, and then I missed their comeback.
Well, they had Addu played well.
I turned it off the minute Big Z hit the buzzer beer-beater to go into halftime,
and I was like, that'll be a good inning.
I'm going to watch something else.
Big Z made a couple shots.
You know, they just, they, Georgia was brutal down the stretch.
I mean, just like three, you know, you saw it, throwing the ball out of bounds.
Just they were, why couldn't they have done that against us down the stretch?
But they got the win.
It was nice to see a do and Z happy.
You know, they've lost Boogie Flan.
Maybe that'll make them better.
I didn't want them coming in here, O and 7, though, because the,
idea that they would be 0 and 7 and then maybe get a win with something that was worrying me a little
bit. If you're asking to be honest, I absolutely was pulling for them at the end of the game. I don't
know why, but I found myself wanting that moment for those guys, and I guess for Cal, that's to say,
after the game, I stayed just to see Cal on what he was going to say. He was, Cal was being Cal,
you know, we hung around, you know, doing stuff like that. Is that your person?
Is this a new guy now? Yeah. I don't know that that really sounds like Cala Perry, Shannon. Does
Does that sound like Cal?
No, not really.
I'll work.
I think he's just stick with it.
I think he's going to have to work on that one over time.
I have a Georgia question about the ending.
And I had money on Arkansas at minus one, so I'm not mad about it.
But on that due free throw, not that they would have won at the end, why did they just
watch him get it and lay it in?
I don't know.
I honestly, I have no idea what Georgia was doing at the end of any of that game.
Like everything they did at the end of the game, the last five minutes of the game,
they looked like they had never played basketball before.
It was crazy for a team that's pretty good, just how they just completely collapsed down the stretch.
I saw a clip where I was catching up.
Mike White was losing his mind.
They dribbled it down and just passed it straight to Arkansas.
Almost like they got their jerseys confused.
I thought Mike White was going to, like, go insane.
So 859-280-2287.
South Laurel is in the house.
Nice to see all of you folks.
There's a lot of you.
Hello to South Laurel.
So we will take a break and be right back.

What's up, guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th.
And on my podcast, The Cliverts show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff.
being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me, he goes,
hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue 42.
Hey, ref, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Where's she at?
Hey, Miss Parker.
Listen to the Cliverts show on the I-Hart Radio app,
Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through life one hot flash and hormonal crying jag at a time.
You ladies know what I mean.
I'll bet you a perimenopausal chin here you do.
So let's talk about it.
Join me on my new podcast.
How hard can it be with Deanna Maria Riva, where I call on my Gen X squads from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate Midlife's most fantastic BS.
All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own.
I was like, what the hell is that?
I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that Ness was going to be.
Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive.
Wait, what sex?
Dating at 45.
How can it be getting naked at 50 with the new guy?
That one's kind of hard, you know?
Well, that's lighting.
They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try.
So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter, and dive into it, unfiltered and unbothered and ask, how hard can it be?
I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud in public.
Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Diana Maria Riva
as part of My Cultura Podcast Network available on the Iheart Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nasree.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night bases on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He run up the court, licking his fingers,
why he got the ball like after you go through a training camp with that i said you figure it out real
quick get your ass up and down the court and you're going to get the ball so listen to point game
on the iHeart radio app apple podcast or wherever you get your podcasts welcome back it is kentucky
sports radio so uh south laurel is here there's a guy here on the uh basketball team and you said
who who's the favorites in the 13th region and he said we are that's colton rawlins man he's been around a long
time. He's a good player. He's been a long time. He's in high school. It's not like he's
28. But he's been playing varsity, I think, since he was a freshman. I mean, he's a good player.
Gotcha. Well, good. Nice to see all these young kids here from the 13th region. 13th region people.
Yeah. We had to ask him, how's the Middlesbril doing? Apparently it's a rebuilding year.
You know what? It's been a rebuilding year for a while, but we're going to turn it back around one day.
I'm not worried about it. Speaking of that, you know what? I'll go ahead and do this now. I was going to save it,
but I like playing this game. Today is the
The All-A classic starts today.
All the first-round game, Shannon, are today.
I don't know anything about any of these teams.
So, of course, that means we should pick the game.
Of course.
I don't know anything about it.
These are small schools around the state.
And it's in Owensboro this year.
And it's in Owensboro.
So let's go quick.
Lyon County, Martin County.
Who you got?
Oh, Lyon County.
I mean, that's Travis Perry, but he's not there anymore.
I saw him play in the Lexington Tournament.
They're still pretty good.
I'll go Lyon County.
They've loaded up.
Yeah, I'll go Lyon County.
I think they're paying players.
Justin, there you got.
Give me Martin County.
You're taking Martin County, all right?
That's good.
Bishop Brossert against Pineville.
I'll go Pineville here.
Sorry, Northern Kentucky.
Sawyer Thompson.
Russ Thompson's kid plays for Pineville.
Pineville's been keeping the rock out of the town so they could play basketball.
There we go.
What's their name?
Sawyer Thompson.
Oh, Sawyer Thompson.
Have you ever seen Sawyer Thompson play basketball?
You've seen his crossover?
Give me Sawyer-Tompson.
Well, that's Pfeville.
So we're all picking Piveville.
Owensboro Catholic against Beachwood.
That sounds like a football game that would be big.
What do you got?
Owensboro is going to have the home crowd.
The slight edge there.
Yeah, I think the fact that it's at the Sports Center.
We've got to give it to Owensboro Catholic.
Yeah, Owensboro Catholic has there.
It's a home.
That's not fair.
It's right across the street.
I'll take Owensboro Catholic.
What do you got you?
Give me the Catholics.
Louisville Holy Cross against Sayre.
Two more private schools going at it.
Who you got?
I'm a little worried.
I saw Sarah had a team dinner at mood light, so that's all sitting heavy on their
comments this morning, but I'm still going to take the Spartans.
Sarah's really good.
They got a couple really good players.
They got a great head coach.
They do have a really good head coach.
Rob Goodman, so I'm going to go with Sarah.
Yeah, I'm going to go with Sarah.
Josh Hopkins got a new part in the second season of shrinking, so that's going to make
Sarah play better.
I'll take Sarah.
Who you got, Shib?
Give me Holy Cross.
Hazard plays Green County down by the Green River where Paradise lay.
What do you got?
Give me a Slawburger for All right.
a bottle of ski. I'll go Green County. Yeah, I know nothing about either one, so since you
stick Green County, I'll go hazard. Generally, I would go with Easter, Kentucky, and pick
hazard, but Green County does have that burger place that I like to stop at all the way down there,
so I'm going to take Green County. Where you got? It's going to be a hazard for Green County. I'm
going to go with hazard. Clinton County against Whitefield Academy. I didn't even know there was
a school called Whitefield Academy. No clue where it is. It could be literally anywhere in the state.
I'm going to take Clinton County. Clinton County 20 and 0, by the way, this year.
I'm going to take Whitefield. Clearly, we've all been sleeping on them since we were unaware of this.
So you're going to take 8 and 13 Whitefield over 20 and O Clinton County.
Breakout high school of the year in Kentucky.
I'm with you. I've never heard of Whitefield Academy ever until you just said it.
Clinton County, though, is good. We did a show down there, and they were telling us they were going to have a good year this year.
Clinton County has more churches per capita than any school or any.
any county in America. In America.
So they're going to pray their way to a victory today. Who you got?
Clinton County is going to send Whitefield Academy back into obscurity.
We're never going to talk about it again.
Danville Christian Academy. Didn't know Danville had a Christian Academy.
They play Elliott County, Rocky Adkins Territory.
Let's put it like that, Elliott County.
Danville Christian Academy is good. They won the 11th region last year.
Oh, did that?
Not just All-A, 11th Region.
We're playing this year.
I'll have to take them now that you've talked me into it.
Who you got, Shed?
Give me the Danville.
Larry Votz.
Finally, Ballard Memorial that hit a half-court shot at the buzzer to get out of the
semi-finals of the region.
They ended up winning the finals.
They play Walton Verona, who you got, Drew?
It's just Walton Verona.
It's the two for one.
You get to the exit.
You get both Walton or Verona.
It's a mismatch.
I'm going Walton Verona.
I'm going to Ballard County Bombers.
They're on a roll after hitting that half-court shot.
Yeah, they hit a half-court shot.
Three-quarter, really.
I mean, like, if he hit a half-court shot, you know, you've got the karma on your side.
So I'm going to take Ballard Memorial, the first region all the way out at the farthest end of the state.
859-280-2-807.
Kentucky and Vandy are Saturday.
How you feel it about the game on the road in Nashville?
Tickets, by the way, are insane.
If you go look at Stubhubh, these are the most expensive Kentucky Vandy tickets I've seen in forever.
heard Mark Pope saying that they're practicing this week with him just standing on the baseline.
You know, just another thing he's trying to do to kind of get his team ready for the game
because it's kind of a quirky place to play for the first time you guys ever played there.
He does realize you can go on the sideline now, right?
He doesn't have to stand the baseline.
But you know what?
Don't tell him.
He's cooking, shared.
Don't worry about it.
How do you feel about the game, Drew?
They just beat Tennessee on their home court by like 10.
I actually think that helps us a little bit.
They got their big win out of the way, those emotions.
Having just been in Nashville, I think Kentucky fans are already there.
for Saturday's game. It's going to be a blue crowd. I like Kentucky to win. Yeah, I mean,
I'm amazed at the ticket situation. Not only is it sold out, like, you go try to find tickets
right now. The prices are crazy. I have to think that's Kentucky fans in Western Kentucky going,
don't you think? That, and we very, very rarely go to Nashville on a Saturday. No, we know. You're
right. And it's at 2.30. So, I mean, if you like Nashville, that's a Friday night, a Saturday night with a
Kentucky basketball game for lunch on Saturday.
That's pretty perfect.
I was thinking about that.
We are never at Vandy on a Saturday.
It's always midweek, 9 o'clock.
Like, you know, the arena's dark.
It feels like they're vampires in there.
This time to get it on a Saturday,
I think it's going to be a huge Kentucky contingent.
But I'll say this.
I was looking at the tickets.
Just like, hey, maybe I'll go down there and watch.
Like, you've got to want it.
which is no doubt.
Like you said, it's Kentucky people.
They're trying to, you know, going to fill up that place.
But yet, Vandy, you know, their student body will be right there.
They'll pack that.
You know, it'll be a rowdy crowd both ways, I think.
You know Vandy better than anybody, Shannon.
Do they have any chance of pulling off the upset?
They cannot match Kentucky's shot for shot.
They can run with them, but they're going to have to create turnovers if Vandy has any shot.
Yeah, we, Vandy's one of those teams.
Arkansas will be like this as well.
That if we're playing well, they just can't score enough.
Yeah.
Right.
Like the reason they beat Tennessee is Tennessee's offense is not great, and Tennessee wasn't hitting shots.
If we're hitting shots, they just, there's no way they can score enough.
Now, if we're cold like we were at Georgia or Clemson, then Drew, that's how it ends up being a game.
And that is a funky place for shooters.
We don't know how that'll turn out.
And even the setup, you know, Pope's first time down there, you can walk around a little bit now.
But any time playing there the first time, that has to be a little bit of a judgment.
It feels like when we've played Vandy in recent years, we've either like,
at Vandy. We've either blown them out or it comes down to the final
position. Like, it's like, we've run them off the court a few times in recent years,
but then we also have had these games that are grinded out down to the last play.
I think that's the magic of that building sometimes, man.
It's just, you know, they'll end up pulling off an upset.
They've already got Tennessee. I'm sure they're probably thinking they can pull this one off.
Jordan Burke's had the big game.
We're going to take your call.
859-280-2287. We are here at KS. Bar-Grill. It's Kentucky Sports Radio.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio here at KS. Bar and Grill. You know, when I was in high school,
if I'd gotten to travel to go to a sports radio show at a sports bar and eat lunch there,
like, that's the best that, like, what else could you do that would be better on a school day than that?
Rather than sit inside a building, you get to go, like, that would be the best.
Oh, yeah.
I mean, we went to a coal camp, and I thought that was great.
And that was just walking around a cold camp.
I would have absolutely signed up for the KSR Club.
I might go back to school and try to join the.
You should, yes.
I still want to know exactly what they do at the KSR Club.
They just break down each show.
They listen to a show and break it down.
They talk about how I shouldn't interrupt Jay Williams so much.
They talk about how you are inconsistent, how Shannon hangs up on people too quickly,
There's a lot of things that I think they probably do.
I will admit this.
There is a 100% chance I definitely would have been under the table when you and Jay started
going back and forth yesterday.
Oh, that's why I was good with Shannon.
I looked at Shannon through the little monitor.
He was just smiling the whole time.
Like he had on the monitor, Shannon just had a look on his face like, keep going.
Just keep going.
That's what you're going.
Yes, that's exactly right.
Caleb Wilson is going to make his college basketball decision tonight.
This is a top 10 kid, one of the best players.
in America. He's going to decide between Kentucky and North Carolina tonight after the Lakers Celtics
game, which means it'll be announced at like 1230 at night on inside the NBA with Barclay Shack
and Kenny Smith. Now, on the one hand, that's cool for that kid. That'll be a highly watched
show with the Lakers and Celtics having just ended, and then you get this high school commitment,
so he's going to get a lot of attention. On the other hand, I'm going to be in bed. I don't
know if other people are.
It's looking like the internet
buzz seem to suggest he may go
to Carolina. What do you
think's going to happen tonight? And will you stay up
to watch it? Unfortunately, I don't
have a chance staying up that late to watch it.
But you know, there are some people, I think, still
here in town that think that they've got a real good shot
at him. They're in a good position with him. Have you talked to them
like recently? No.
Okay. Well, there has been
some changes. There have been some changes
in the last couple days. Yeah, I think so.
Do you want to text your
sources before the end of the show? Yeah, let's do that. Let's just see if there's any upcoming
news. Why don't you, all right? Get to it. Yes, go for it. Get to it. A few weeks ago,
I was very confident, but the tides have seen to turn. Any name in recruiting is picking North
Carolina now. I would have bet money on Kentucky just a few weeks ago, but now I've completely
flipped. Just following the news. I don't know anything myself, but I mean, you've got Joe Tipton
from On 3, Trilly Donovan, all the big names that cover this are picking UNC. Here's the thing. This is
a good lesson for the future. Whenever a recruit, whenever we hear people say about a recruit,
he's definitely coming to Kentucky. He's definitely coming to Kentucky, definitely coming,
and then he just keeps putting off his announcement, that makes me skeptical. Like, if you're
definitely coming, then why aren't you coming? Like, why are we going, okay, the announcement
will be in November? Now it's in December. Now it's in January. Like, when that happens, that means
to me the definitely is not so definitely.
So I think he goes to North Carolina.
It's a bummer.
I wish Pope had gotten him, assuming we don't get him.
But I also think, you know, nowadays with the portal, you missing on somebody is not the end of the world.
I mean, you could even argue this year, this year there's been a rebirth through a freshman, right?
Like Cooper Flagg's been really good.
The kid at Illinois is really good.
The two kids at Rutgers are good.
Like freshmen have kind of reemerged.
But last year in the final four of the 20 starters, only one of them was a freshman.
Like there is a sense in which getting those freshmen is not quite what it was a while back.
Yeah, that's why not to try to change the narrative here.
I really wanted Caleb Wilson.
I think it would have been a good good for Pope to get someone outside of Kentucky that's a top 10 player.
So I'm bummed that it's looking like it's going to be Carolina.
But at the same time, it is different.
And we're still training our brains on so many things that are different from how it was for so long.
and in this scenario, he was going to command a lot of money.
They were willing to pay it, and that's good.
We wanted him.
But I now also trust Pope to take that money that they were going to spend
and go to the portal and find maybe more than one piece.
That is also going to be very good.
So it is a loss, and it stinks, but it's not like crap.
That was our one target.
It's like, okay, well, let's go find something a little older and fill that hole.
Yeah, I kind of agree with you about that.
Who's up first, Shannon?
Dan.
Dan, go ahead, Dan.
Sorry, I was working.
Matt, long time, first time.
Who are?
What's up?
Not much, but I had two quick points.
I don't want to take as long in the first one because I want to talk to you more on the second one.
But the first of the officiating at Georgia, it just seems like they're not quite a good on the road, are they?
They got a lot of good home cooking going on.
They're at home, and I understand.
I mean, look, in the SEC this year, you're going to get teams that can beat anybody at home and lose to anybody on the road.
We might be one of those teams.
Like, I think that's just kind of how the SEC is this year.
I mean, South Carolina shoulda beat Florida the other.
night. They lost it at the last second. So, I mean, it happens.
I'm just saying, though, that it's not so much than the number of fails, because I know
they only call it, like, five more fouls on them. And look, if we'd shot better, if we've made
more free throws, we don't want. So I'm not blaming the rest. But the timing of the
fails, the fact that they were in the bonus a lot earlier in each half than us, the timing of
the foul affects the flow of the game. Remember, Georgia and Arkansas play physically. They're going to go
to the line more than we do.
That's just how it's going to be
unless we do the things
Pope is talking about doing. What's your second
thing? Yeah, we've got to get
more aggressive, taking it to the hole and trying to
get those foul. On my second point,
I'm
a Trump supporter. I always listen to
your show. I think people should
be able to have discussions
civilly and just agree and disagree.
And there's nothing wrong with that, right? Like you and Jay
Williams. So the only
issue I have with what you said about the pardons.
I don't know. We're not talking about, look, I gave my opinion on that, but I hope you
understand if I let you go back on it, then the whole show becomes people arguing back and
forth. So it's not that I don't want to hear your position, but if I get your position on
pardons, then somebody's going to counter you. That's why I don't sort of open the pardon.
Open the political stuff up for discussion. I don't have a position on pardons. All I was going to say
is that you had mentioned that he pardoned somebody that had hit a policeman.
I don't appreciate it.
Sir, I just, I'm telling you.
I don't want to do that.
I appreciate the call.
I'm not trying to be rude to you.
It's not that I don't think you have a valid opinion, but I don't, when I, it's probably
not fair, but, you know, if you want to hear people take the opposite view than me on
politics, is a show that comes on right after this, and you'll get three straight hours
of it, and they'll give the opposite position, and you can get everything you want there.
Yeah, we got lots of, a lot more fun van.
Andy takes ahead. We've talked about the pile of coats that Ron always get so excited about when we go to Nashville.
We can't let the whole show. Tell people what your pile of coats thing is. You always bring that up when we go to Nashville.
Well, I think they've changed, but the people that used to sit in the end zone at Memorial Coliseum, there's no coat rack. There's no place to, you know, really sit on your coat.
So they would pile them. They would stack them in a pile right behind the basketball goal in the end zone. And it would be like three feet, four feet high. That's pile of coats.
You always say you don't think, no, if they do it anymore, but I've watched 10 games since the last.
time you've brought it this and I've never seen any coats. Is this like something from the 60s that
you're still continuing to bring up? I know they were doing it when I was still at Channel 18 because we
shot some video of it. I couldn't believe. I've never seen this happen. I couldn't believe. I've been to a
lot of games there. I've never seen it. I think the pile of coats is something that is in your,
in your imagination that you have created out of nowhere. Why would everyone just put a pile of
coats on the floor? Because when the game is over, that would be a madhouse. Yeah, you got to go find your
coat. Yeah, maybe it was part of the fun, part of the game. Part of the fun is throwing your coat
in a pile with a hundred of other people's coats. You know, watching Vanderbilt basketball a lot of
time is pretty tough and struggling. You struggle to watch it. So now you've got a chance to have
some fun. Go find your coat at the end of the game. I'm throwing the challenge flag on that. I just,
I don't believe that's true. I don't believe that's true. Who's next? Let's go to Kentucky Surveyor.
Kentucky Surveyor. How are you?
Hey, guys. Good. How are y'all doing? Good. What's up?
Oh, not much.
I just had a couple quick comments.
So I liked the back and forth with Jay Williams yesterday,
and I really liked Jay Williams.
But he was absolutely backpedaling from the comments that he made
and just didn't want to own up to it, I don't think.
And then the other thing is I've always hated Coach Kay.
And now knowing that just because Jay was hard on him and his handling of what's his name,
dude, I can't stand that guy.
Grace it out.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I appreciate the call.
That was a piece of news yesterday, Drew.
I don't think it's ever been told.
Jay Williams saying that he got kicked out of Duke practices for criticizing the Grayson Allen thing.
I don't know that that's ever been news.
You guys need to write that story up on KSR so maybe we could get some traction on it
because I don't know that I've ever heard that before.
He kind of just tucked that one in there.
I mean, we were obviously listening to the interview for other reasons, but you think about that.
That's not just a former player.
That's a Duke legend there that is the biggest mouthpiece for Duke on.
TV outside of Jay Billis and he wasn't allowed to go to practice?
Yeah, that's probably one of
Mike Shoshowski's top
three players he's ever had.
I mean, it's probably like Leitner.
I mean, I would put him second to Leitner.
I mean, if you look at Coach Kay's best players,
it's probably Leitner, Danny Ferry,
Bobby Hurley, Grant Hill,
Reddick, him, and Zion.
I mean, there's not in Elton Brand.
But, like, I might put,
I might put Jason Williams second.
He said yesterday his jersey hangs in that arena, and yet he was forbidden to come to practice.
That was kind of shocking news when he said that yesterday.
I thought the other thing was he's definitely got something with Rashad Karuth.
He didn't want to talk about Rashad Karuth yesterday.
That's true he didn't, which is weird.
Like, why would he care about Rashad Karut?
I don't know.

Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are
trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's
where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking
down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight
to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff
nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments,
that never make the highlight real.
From viral moments to historic games,
from buzzer beaters to controversial calls,
we break it down,
give you context, and ask the questions
everybody wants answered.
Sports Slice brings you closer to the action
with stories told by the people who live them.

What's up, guys?
This is CliverTaylor the 4th.
And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show,
I'm bringing you conversations
about all kinds of stuff.
Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me, he goes,
hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue 42.
Hey, ref, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Hey, Miss Parker.
Listen to the Cliverts show on the I Heart Radio app,
Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy
in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get to fly.
He running up the court licking his fingers why he got the ball.
Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
How hard can it be with Deanna Maria Riva, where I call on my GenX squads from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate midlife's most fantastic BS.
All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening.
on my own.
So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter, and dive into it, unfiltered and unbothered and ask,
How hard can it be?
I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud in public.
Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Diana Maria Riva as part of my Cultura podcast network available on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at KS Bar.
I was just talking to these kids here.
I was like, how long do you all think you could go without being on your phone?
And one of them looked at me with pride, Brian, and goes, I think I could do two hours.
Wow, two hours
I mean that's not that long
But like he was like two hours
And then the teacher's like nope
No you can't
It's amazing now how much
Like if you look at the great span of human history
We humans have acted the same way
For like thousands of years
And then starting 15 years ago
Now we spend half of our time
looking at a screen.
Yep.
And like it was never like that the rest of the time.
And I'm guilty as anybody.
Don't get me wrong.
I'm not trying, but it's amazing how that's changed.
I don't know what the rules are at South Laurel,
but I know a lot of schools now are giving it up to the teachers
that they can, like, implement, put your phones away as soon as you walk in the classroom.
Kentucky legislature has a bill this session to ban the use of cell phones in class.
Ban them.
It's Republicans are for it, but on this one, I'll make it bipartisan.
Listen, ban it.
Like, I do it in my class at Georgetown.
No, you can't be on your phone.
They don't like it, but, like, you can't have their attention.
Otherwise, if they have a phone, you know they're not paying attention totally.
That, and I genuinely don't know this.
Ryan, you can answer.
How do kids just not look up everything on their phone?
That's it.
When I was in high school, I had to type the entire periodic table into a Ti-83 calculator.
It took like six nights to get it all in there so I could cheat on the test.
My final exam, I make them turn their phones off.
no internet, they can bring in anything they want from out.
They can bring in their notes, they can bring in their books, they can bring in whatever.
But they have no electronic thing.
And to me, that's the only way you can do it.
Because if you give them access to the internet, forget it.
Like, they're going to have AI and it's going to be whatever.
I know there was one class that the teachers was okay with them looking it up on their phone
because even by doing that, they're learning it.
No, I agree with that, but you can't do it on a test.
And then they're just regurgitating what they saw.
I have something that a story that I think is going to be a big story in the next 24 hours,
but that I don't think people know yet, and I will give it here.
Okay?
Do it.
Shannon, I feel like this is going to involve you a lot.
Did you see what happened last night with Bill Burr and Billy Corgan?
No.
Bill Burr is a comedian.
Billy Corgan is the lead singer of the Smashing Pumpkins.
All right?
Howie Mandel, I just keep throwing names,
Howie Mandel has a podcast.
He decides to have those two guys on.
Now, here's something I didn't know.
Bill Burr, the comedian, and Billy Corgan, the singer, have the same father.
What?
They have the same father with two different mothers.
I think the father was not involved in either of the kid's life.
And apparently Bill Burr and Billy Corrigan are not that far off in age.
and the dad named both kids Bill.
Weird.
But here's the crazy part.
Bill Burr and Billy Corgan had never talked to each other about it.
They were aware, but had never talked to each other about it.
And for Bill Burr, at least, it was kind of a sore subject.
He didn't like his dad, and he didn't really want to talk about this kid, etc.
Howie Mandel makes the decision to invest.
invite them both on to reunite, but doesn't tell Bill Burr.
So Bill Burr is on the show as a guest, and he brings Billy Corgan out.
He had told Billy Corgan that Bill Burr was cool with it.
He wasn't.
And he sits down and says, here you go.
And the video is as cringe-worthy thing as you'll ever see.
Burr is clearly mad.
Like not kind of mad, really mad.
He even says, can we cut this out of the podcast?
And then they're sitting there, and the tension is so awkward.
He's not mad at Billy Corrigan, but he also really doesn't want to talk to him because
he doesn't want to think about his dad.
Billy Corrigan thought Bill Burr was going to be cool with it and now realizes it's not.
And the two of them are sitting there, it's awful to watch.
It's like 10 minutes.
I'm telling you, look it up later.
It's the worst thing I've ever seen.
And then at the end, they almost kind of unify in thinking Howie is a jerk for having done this.
They're both kind of like, I can't believe you did this to us.
Yeah, Howie Mandel's at fault here.
He ambushed him.
But is that not wild?
This has got to be a huge story today because once people see the video, these are two very famous people.
Once people see the video, it's awful.
And the dad named them both Bill.
The Billy Corgan wasn't upset about it as Bill Burr was.
Well, Billy Corgan had been told that Bill Burr wanted to unify.
Like, wanted to unite.
Wow.
And then Bill Burr looked at Billy Corgan and said,
hey, in interviews, you said you were my stepbrother.
I wish you hadn't done that.
You didn't ask me if that was okay.
So it was like, that's stuff that doesn't need to be talked about on the public airwaves.
I mean, it is as tense a thing as you will ever see.
I felt really sorry for Bill Burr.
Yeah.
I also felt sorry for Billy Corby.
Howie Mandel, who I thought always seemed like everybody thought he was like a nice guy,
kind of comes off right.
Drew is a huge jerk in the whole thing.
Heck, yeah.
I get Howie having this idea, and it would be good.
You cannot surprise someone.
You have to ask them.
You can't just surprise them.
I mean, Bill Burr's got to be in his fist.
50s, and that's probably something that he's dealt with his whole life, something in the back of his head,
and you're just going to throw a microphone and say, let's talk about this for the first time.
So then Hallie Mandel looks at Bill Byron and goes, so what do you think about him?
Me and Billy Corrigan, he was like, well, I wish you hadn't said that we were brothers without asking me.
And I mean, your music's good, I guess.
And that was their beautiful moment of reconciliation.
So was the dad a no name?
I mean, what kind of person just a random guy?
Just spawns two superstars like that.
A random guy just had two kids, and then they both end up being huge superstars in completely different fields.
Wow. That is. Isn't that crazy?
Incredible. I'm telling you, when you watch this video, it is hard to watch.
Like, it is really hard to watch. We'll take a break and be right back.
Kentucky Sports Radio.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and headwriter, Streeter Seidel,
help an acapella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Last night, a blown call changed a game.
This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
That's where Sports Slice comes in.
I'm Timbo.
In every episode, we're cutting through the noise,
breaking down the biggest moments in sports
and giving you the real story behind the headline.
And we're going straight to the source,
the athletes themselves,
their locker room stories,
their reactions in the moment,
and the stuff nobody gets to hear.

Soccer Mom.
So I'm Leanne.
Yeah.
This is my best friend, Janet.
Hey.
And we have been joined at the hips since high school.
Absolutely.
A redacted amount of years later, we're still joined at the hip.
Just a little bit bigger hips.
This is a podcast.
We're recording it as we tailgate our youth soccer games in the back of my Honda Odyssey.
With all the snacks and drinks.
Why did you get hard seltzer instead of beer?
Oh, they hit a bogo.
Well, then you got it.
