It might be like $1.20 Wings Day.

I'll make them pay.
Usually you don't mess up when you got that.
Well, I got distracted.
I was thinking about the dollar wings because I,
I can't eat them because of this.
It's a big event.
You can't eat anything right now.
Yeah, they let me, the doctor said I could have one more Diet Coke before noon.
Noon and then cut it off.
And then it's all water, water, juice, like, but only clear, everything has to be clear.
Yeah.
Right, like you can get, I can have gate rate zero, but it's got to be frost.
You know, it has to, everything has to be clear.
Is your stomach yelling at you yet?
Because it's going to be talking to you for a while.
I don't start taking the stuff until like three or four.
Is that going to, no, right?
No, it'll be fine.
You know what?
Just Billy, last night, just opened the show.
Like, you're so skinny.
I don't even see you anymore.
And I was like, well, that's nice.
And he made some little snye comments.
Like, I'm like, but you needed it.
That wasn't exactly what he said.
But it was something like that.
And I was like, you know what, Billy?
Shut up.
So, yeah, that'll, I'm going to have to get a new.
Yeah, you're going to lose weight the next 24 hours.
There's no doubt.
So, yeah, I didn't feel like eating last night after watching that game.
I think the first half was one of the worst U.K. halves in a long time.
I mean, I don't know.
I can't remember a game where we were out of it quicker with no chance to come back.
You know, we were done.
There was no – two minutes left in the first half game was over.
over.
It was the most we were down at half time since the game after
Nerville's Noel got hurt in 2013.
And I remember that game distinctly watching it and going,
we're done.
Like, this is no shot.
Now, you know, they did play better in the second half,
cut it to 11 at one point.
I wish they could have gotten it to single digits just to see if everybody
would have, you know, but didn't come to that.
And we ended up losing by, what was it?
17. 14. I don't know what you say. Total breakdown, defensively a disaster,
offensively pretty much in the first half, everyone but a Mario disaster. Second half,
Robinson and Oway played really well, but still just not a great effort, right?
It was an embarrassing. On the offensive end, that first half, how many two-footers did they miss?
Two-footer after two-footer after two-footer. I think they missed seven shots within two feet in the first
But I will say it wasn't like they just rimmed.
I mean, some of them were bad shots.
Back to the basket garrison shots on three out of four plays.
O'A. trying to make a layup with four guys on him.
I mean, there's a little bit of that.
Yeah, they were close, but it wasn't like they were great shots to begin with.
First half, a lot of really bad turnovers.
But, of course, we're going to get into, I know.
But the defensive end in the first half, I mean, we were leaving those guys wide open.
And when the guy can sit, doesn't even jump, the set shoot a shot guy just kills.
us wide open. He shot like the oldest man at the YMCA. Like foot, I mean, didn't he, but we didn't
even like go out on him. Didn't even go out on him. We left Amari and Garrison left three bigs,
like just looking at him. Like how you doing out there, man? I mean, there's one thing to give people
shots. It's another thing to not even fathom contesting it. Like to just go, here you go. I mean,
you leave somebody out of open. A lot of people can make it. Yeah, it looked like Ole Miss was
in an open gym, just the five of them
taking turns, getting shots up.
I mean, there was no defense whatsoever.
They weren't even having to work at all
to get open looks. It's like they were just
out there having funlings. So they were out the Hamburg
Wilde this morning, just getting some shots up before work.
A UK did nothing. Even when they
would, like, half-ass close out,
they were closing out on threes without putting their hands up.
I've never even seen that. It's like, well, what are you even
doing? Like, he's screaming
at him as they went by. Absolutely, no effort
defensively in that first time. It was awful.
It was awful. And it's
kind of
unexplainable to me
why it would be that bad.
I mean,
I can understand,
okay,
you're guarding a guy,
he's faster than you,
he gets to the basket.
But I've never seen people
look more out of swords.
And I mean,
there were some historic things
that happened last night.
But,
I mean,
think about this.
There were three things
that if you saw one of these
in a game,
you would go,
wow.
Amari had the fourth
triple double in UK history.
Yep.
Good for him.
I don't know that it will be one people love.
I mean, yeah.
Fourth triple double in UK history in a loss.
Yeah.
Right?
He joins Chris Mills, De Aaron Fox, and Isaiah Briscoe.
Throw Amari Williams in that.
What a bizarre list of humans, that is.
That happens.
We get, Ole Miss only has one turnover.
Yes.
Only the second time in 25 years in SEC team.
has done that in a game, in an SEC game.
Ansley-Alignor and Trent Noah do something that has not happened at Kentucky since 2009,
and they both do it in the same game, which is play more than 10 minutes and not register
a statistic.
None.
Nothing.
No anything.
Not even a foul.
Not even a foul.
Almanor for 15 minutes, Noah for 13 minutes.
We haven't had a player play more than seven minutes and do that since 1991.
And we've only had one guy play nine minutes.
That was Perry Stevenson in 2009.
As far as the numbers go, no one can ever find it happening for someone that played over 10 minutes.
And we had two guys do it last night.
Drew, that's insane.
On a night there was a triple double of the fours in history.
they somehow found a harder stat to pull off.
To have those two do that in the same game,
I mean, the numbers are there.
That's never happened before.
I thought Amari doing the fourth time ever was wild.
You have two guys registered $28 trillion playing $15 and $13 million.
You have two guys who did something that we can't find any Kentucky player doing ever,
and they did it in the same game.
That's amazing.
It is, and yet, you know, Jackson Robinson shot up.
over 50% from the field.
He played well.
08 had a deep, pretty,
a really good second half.
But it's a bad loss.
And, you know, after the game,
the Mark Pope radio press
conference, or Mark, excuse me, radio
interview with Tom Leach was just
odd.
He
almost acknowledged he didn't really know
what to do.
I mean, I give him, I really give him a lot of
credit. I think he's
unbelievably honest in terms
of like he's not going to just BS.
He's just, he, and he basically said, we got to figure something out.
I don't know what it is, but we got to figure something out.
Yeah, he said, I think he used the phrase, we're hemorrhaging right now.
You know, and he said, we've got to find out how to fix it now.
I liked his honesty, but at the same time, it's like, all right, let's get some answers.
Because he said in the press conference, it was almost his answer to every question.
I've done a poor job.
I've failed them.
I don't have the answers right now.
And I like that he looks in the camera and admits that and he's being authentic.
But right, now we need some answers.
soon.
I like the honesty.
I've always, like when I watch politicians, I've always said, I wonder why politicians
don't just sometimes say, I don't know, but we're going to figure it out.
And I've always, because I thought I would respect that, because they always act like they
know everything.
Nobody knows everything.
And most people don't know anything, right?
So I've always been like, I wonder if you would, if what happened if you would get up
and go, you know, I'm not sure.
Let me check and we'll get back with it.
Yeah.
Right.
I thought that would be in spite.
But then Mark did that, and part of me was like, well, lie to me.
Make me feel better.
You know, which I don't think I believe that, but it was interesting to hear somebody go, yeah, I don't know.
And you're like, oh, well, I was hoping you knew.
Is it as simple as they just don't, Lamont Butler's best valuable to the team?
I think that's, obviously that's a big part of it.
but they did beat Gonzaga and Tennessee without him.
And I'm not saying that that means they should win.
But Lamont Butler or not, you shouldn't give up 98.
Yeah.
On the heels of letting Arkansas score 89, right?
I think there's a bit of an overreaction to all this because they've lost two-point guards,
and I think that hurt them against Arkansas, Vandy and Alabama.
Last night, I don't have the Butler excuse.
That's the first game of the Butler drought
where I don't think you can just say it was him.
I don't think he would have been much help
because it was just pure effort.
Now, unless he's out there yelling at everyone
and he's a leader that gets it out of him,
maybe that would have helped.
But Butler wasn't the issue last night.
You don't think they had effort last night.
No, that's honestly the first time,
maybe in my life, I've wanted to change the channel
and do something else.
Because I just, when it's defense
and you're just watching guys shoot threes,
that's different than getting beat,
maybe your shots aren't going in.
Last night was different for me.
It was just pure.
That first half was guys just taking open shots for 20 minutes.
Well, in the second half, I actually thought we played pretty good defense,
and then they hit contested shots.
I mean, to some extent in the second half,
some of that was that they were good.
But in the first half, I think if you go back and watch,
I said this during the post game show,
and then as I was a fall in asleep, I went back and looked at the play.
Don't watch the play where they went zone.
And if that doesn't look like a team that was baffled,
go watch that play where
because we know we've all said let's play
one three one presumably they worked on it because of the
Arkansas game
go watch that play
when they get in the one three one zone
all five guys are looking at each other
and not exactly sure where to go
they're talking and they're pointing
and it's like not one of the five
seemed to think they were in the right place
car got all the way turned around
car
car
car
that play was facing in the weirdest direction.
No, I mean it.
Like, okay, so act like you're, for those of you on radio,
act like you're playing defense, you would face the middle court line.
Yeah, right?
Right.
Carr is on the right wing of the one three one.
If you're in that position, your body should either be facing the mid court line
or open to your right to chase that side of the goal, right?
Yeah.
He was open to the left.
Okay, think about that.
He was faced towards the other side of the court
and didn't know anyone was behind him.
And there was a guy behind him who drilled a three with cars back.
I honestly was like, does he realize the play is happening right now?
And then, of course, the guy ends up wide open and hits a three.
That play said, and by the way, Pope did not go back to it one play.
Probably that's why.
because they were baffled.
You know, after the Alabama game, he did say he wished he would take more risk defensively.
Don't do that.
Maybe this was one thing he thought he could try, but after you tried it, obviously it didn't work.
I mean, the guy was like there wasn't anybody near him when he shot that.
You're right, they did hit some contested shots in the second half.
But it was over.
It was way over.
Game was over at halftime.
I know we made the little run, but the game was over at halftime.
Offensively, they played well in the second half.
They just could not get a single stop for it to really matter.
I mean, they had a big run where they were.
score and just one after another, but they were giving it up on the other end, so it wasn't really
doing much damage on the scoreboard.
So now what?
Got to beat South Carolina on Saturday.
You have to.
But just in general, like, how much confidence do you have for the rest of the year?
I mean, it's definitely taking a hit, you know?
I'm thinking now they're going to struggle to even have a winning record in the SEC.
They may have a losing record in the SEC.
May?
Yeah.
I just, for what I see is the problem, it's like intensity.
and toughness, and I don't know how you flip that switch on February 5th.
But didn't you, I felt like that was something they had in abundance.
I thought so too, but I mean, there's guys just not even trying defensively, and if they are trying
it, they're just awful at it because it's not looking like it.
Jimmy Dykes, for all the people, like, I thought he said it at the end of the first
half.
Towards the end of the first half when we were just getting rocked.
He said, this is not an elite athletic team.
You have to win with execution and effort.
he's right yeah and we're not executing or playing with a hundred percent effort and we're not
talented enough to just wish ourselves through it right and if we do that i mean i i hope that's not
i hope we don't have more of those but do we know that we won't no i think the answer is we don't
know at this point and we're still without butler for a couple more weeks i mean they've i don't know
what the answer is i'm really surprised i'm really surprised at the last two games
Yeah.
Every game up until now, I felt like I at least understand why it happened.
You went to Georgia, we couldn't hit a shot, right?
Went to Vandy, couldn't get a stop down the stretch.
Alabama is just better than us.
Okay.
But the last two games, I feel like I'm watching a different team than I watched in the first, however many, 20.
And that I don't really understand.
And I don't know.
I mean, I'm not giving up.
The good thing is they can still get hot.
I mean, for all our talk, they did score 51 points in the second half.
Like, they can still put it up.
But I don't know.
859-280-2287.
We'll take a break.
Take your calls.
We'll talk about this.
I'm going to talk about some other stuff because I can't just be bummed all day.
It's Wings Day.
We'll be right back.
KSA.

And on my podcast, The Cliverts show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff.
Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This lineback coach is.
This linebacker walks up to me, he goes,
Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue of 42.
Hey, rep, my mama wants you to wave at her.
What?
Where's she at?
Hey, Miss Parker.

American soccer is about to explode.
The World Cup is coming.
Ramers sending on.
I'm Tad Ramos.
I'm Tom Boe.
On our podcast, Inside American Soccer, you'll get the real storylines.
I'm not worried about Policic.
I'm not worried about Balagan.
I'm not worried about McKinney.
My only concern is what happens in the back.
The biggest decisions.
If you're going to look at stats and numbers,
he has no shot at making this World Cup team.
And the truth about the U.S. national team.
It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the
the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals.
The World Cup is almost here.
Experience it all with us.

What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball.
Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah.
You figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
859-280-2287.
One person writes, uh, on the text machine, 7-7-2-7-7-4-5-25,
for Matt, there was no hustle.
That's about work ethic.
This is the first game they haven't put forth any effort at all.
I don't say there was no effort.
I don't necessarily believe that.
But I do think I pointed out of play on the post-game show, Ryan,
and I thought Jackson Robinson actually played really well,
but I'm just using it as an example.
It was towards the end of the first half.
The ball kind of pops out and it's at the top of the key,
and he reaches for the ball,
but like almost sees that he's about to get hit
and backs away
and the Ole Miss guy comes in full steam
gets it, comes down the court layup
and if he had, there would have been a collision
if Robinson came in, but the old miss guy was willing
to risk and get the collision and Jackson Robinson stood back
and guess what the old miss guy gets the ball?
You know, that's something, you know, that wanted you
used to call it, you know, you got to want to go get the basketball
I think has affected him in rebound.
You got to want to rebound, you don't want to go get the ball.
We saw some couple times last night we're in the post
one guy just stepped in front of Andrew Carr.
Didn't even, you know, Andrew Carr wasn't even trying to block him.
The guy just kind of just stepped in front of him.
So a lot of it is just effort.
What do you think about Jimmy Dyke saying he thought they looked lackluster in the walkthrough and earlier in the day?
Yeah, he did say that.
Yeah, I mean, I could believe it with how that first half started.
I don't know what Pope's doing or not doing to be such bad starts.
I mean, even in the big wins, they were second half comebacks.
I mean, it seems most games they get off to a slow.
start.
Yeah.
Yeah, I don't know.
One person says, Matt, your first caller on the postgame show was right.
You guys are not being critical enough of Pope.
I thought you were too critical to Cal.
Now you're not critical enough of Pope.
That doesn't make sense.
I mean, okay, let me counter that with this one.
Next comment.
Matt, you all are way too negative.
It's one game.
It's one game.
Pope got this.
This is why it's hard.
to play here, everybody questions the coach too much.
Well, so first of all, I mean, I don't know how you answer both those questions.
I am very positive about the overall direction of the program.
I still think everything is positive.
I think these last two games, though, have been terrible, and I don't know how we can
say otherwise.
I mean, the day you're okay with Kentucky losing to a one-and-six SEC team at home,
right?
and then being down 23 at halftime for the first time since 2013 on the road,
there is a part of me that says what Mark Pope said to me in his office.
This isn't Kentucky if you think that's cool, Drew.
I mean, it's not.
Like, if you think a losing team coming into Rupp and beating you and leading pretty much the whole game
and then you're following that up with the biggest halftime deficit in 12 years is fine,
then it's not Kentucky.
Then it's, you know, whatever, Oklahoma.
Yeah, throw in it's what, been four out of five.
Yeah, four out of five.
It's only the second time we've lost four out of five since 2009.
I mean, you know, that's not good.
They very well and were expected to lose last night.
They were an underdog.
And if they had gone down there and you get beat on a buzzer-beater or lose by three,
okay, you'd swallow that pill and come home.
But Ole Miss averages like 76 points a game.
at 98 points.
And as crazy as the triple double and the 28 trillion are,
I think 24 assists to one turnover is crazy as though if the four of us went to a gym and just passed it around,
we would dribble it off our knee out of bounds and find turnovers with no defense.
Like, how do you not have two turnovers in a single basketball game,
played 40 minutes with one turnover?
That is just you're not being guarded.
Their one turnover was the dude just kind of lost the handle out on top the key?
That was it.
It was not even like it was a full.
force turn, I mean, you know, he just kind of just lost the handle of it.
So is it fixable?
Let me answer that two questions.
I think we would all agree if Butler comes back, this is better.
Yes.
Fair enough?
Yeah.
Let's say he doesn't.
Then what?
I'm like you.
We've seen how they can play without him.
How did they win at Tennessee without him?
They found some kind of way to play well at Tennessee.
They won Gonzaga without him.
He's that good without him.
They found a way and played really well.
It had that good second half come back.
So it's in them.
And even at Vandy, we lost, but we were in it.
I mean, it was not a...
I don't know what's happened these last two games.
He is obviously a big hit.
Any team in the country that lost two-point guards would be losing a bunch of games.
But that has not explained how Kobe Braia seemed to disappear.
How, I mean, a lot of guys have regressed.
I mean, Brandon Garrison doesn't seem to be playing as well as he was earlier in the year.
the three-point shooting isn't nearly what it's supposed to be.
The percentage is actually good.
They're not getting the attempts.
And they should be taken even more right now.
See, if I had one question for Pope, I would say, you said at the beginning of the year, 30 to 35-3s,
his words were, we have to shoot 30 to 35-3s or we're not going to be good.
That was exactly what he said.
We've only done that in three of the nine games.
and in six of the nine games the other team has taken more than us.
How?
Like, how?
We're not good, let me say, we're not good enough to beat people with twos.
There are teams that are good enough to do it.
We're not one of them, right?
Right.
We're not good enough to beat teams with twos.
I don't understand why we're not taking these.
I mean, again, we shot 48% last night from three.
We can hit them.
We've got to take them.
He's got to change his office.
a little bit to get guys open because what was working against Bucknell and Georgia State against
defenses like that is not working now. His dribble handoff and the backdoor cut, they got to start
setting some screens for Brea because when you see him, he gets the ball, he dribbles, he's trying
so hard to get a shot off, but he just can't create for himself. They're not getting, they're not getting
the looks that they were getting at one time, and they're not going to get those anymore because
this is the SEC and they're getting up in their face. And it may be that the offensive
style that you play. So like the Big 12 is a great conference. Probably was the best
conference in basketball last year.
But the totality of the conference is not as athletic as this one.
This conference, even the bad players, are great athletes.
Yeah.
Right.
We are the most unathletic team in the conference.
I don't even think that's a debate.
Now, we're better than a lot of teams, but we're the most unathletic.
And we have to play a style to counter these athletes.
We cannot out-athlete these guys.
Because it's bothering us.
These guys coming up in our grill are bothering us.
Ole Miss and Arkansas are an example of what I'm talking about.
I mean, Arkansas has great athletes, but not great skill,
but we can't get shots off against these teams.
And yet we still score 84, which says to me if we could just get some open shots,
we'll win these games.
Even some of the threes they were making, it wasn't good offense.
I mean, Jackson Robbins would pull up from like 30 feet.
He made it, but I mean, you can't count on that to one.
You can.
You can.
All right.
We will take your calls.

presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
859-280-2287.
I'm going to read this.
And just so you know, Mario,
this is a text on the text machine.
This is me.
Is it me?
although I might agree with the sentiment
but I'm deflecting it for me
okay it's not you yes
one person writes Matt when I saw Kentucky go zone
it was at the same time Trump said we were going to go to Gaza
and take it over I couldn't decide which was a worse idea
at least we got out of the zone quickly
no comment

bucks trade Chris Middleton
to the Wizards for Kyle Coosma
I don't even think that's worth a breaking
I just wanted to let you know that that was happening.
Thank you for that.
ESPN went away from the AD Luca trade?
It's all they've been talking about for 48 hours.
They actually did something else?
See, I thought that texter was going to have the hottest take of this segment.
And now Ryan living with a hotter take.
Who's up first, Shannon?
Let's go to Justin.
Justin. Go ahead, Justin.
Yes, I have two things.
The first thing is effort.
When it comes to effort, we have no effort on defense.
And then when it comes to offense,
we have actual ball pressure applied to our offense, they don't fight through screens.
They don't fight through the ball pressure.
Well, we don't set a ton of screens.
I think, I think Drew's right.
We need to set more.
I think, I think, I think.
Well, I'm also talking about when the other team.
Yeah, that's defense.
Go ahead.
You said on offense, on offense, I think it's like it's more scheme than effort.
Defense, I'll agree with you.
I think some of it's effort.
But go ahead.
My second thing is, if we don't win three more games, if we don't get to 18, does that keep us out of the tournament?
I think so.
That could be a very real possibility.
Yeah, I mean, we'd have to be bad for that to happen.
So let's talk about the tournament because we are 15 and 7.
But we're 15 and 7 with great wins.
True.
And the best conference by far.
So let's talk about what we have to do to get to the tournament.
We got nine games left.
20, you're in safe.
19.
You're probably in pretty safe.
And 18, I still think you're in.
You're in reeling, but you're in.
I think you get lower than 18,
and then it starts to get hairy.
We get to 18 simply by beating South Carolina,
Vandy and LSU at home.
And you should.
We're going to do that, right?
Yes.
Right, Shannon?
Like, we're going to do that.
that.
I mean, you're going to get at least two of those.
There's always a chance.
We better be bandy.
Vandy's getting killed on the road everywhere they play.
They played Florida tough last night.
For a while.
Yeah, that's true.
If we can't win those three, that's different.
But then I think we've got to win one of these road games.
This Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Alabama.
What's the other one?
Auburn's at home.
I know.
That's why I didn't say them.
Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Alabama.
actually yeah we only play four road games then we also play
Auburn and Tennessee at home how many wins are we going to get in these last
nine I'm going to say four so you have us finished in eight and ten yeah the three
home games you mentioned South Carolina LSU bandy and I think they can get that one
maybe at Oklahoma if I got to pick one that's the four I'm going with I'm going to
say five I think we're going to win those three we'll steal either at Oklahoma
at Texas or maybe even at Missouri
and we win one of Tennessee,
Auburn at home.
That's going to be our finishing signature thing.
So I'm going to say five and four to finish nine and nine in conference.
What about you?
I was still in a good place before tip off yesterday.
Even Arkansas, I got over it pretty quickly.
I genuinely thought that they would lose last night and win the next four.
But how bad last night was has kind of got me worried even about Saturday.
If we lose Saturday
I mean, South Carolina hasn't won a game all year in conference
You really think we could lose that game?
After last night, I think they could lose to anyone
If they don't fix that defense.
But I genuinely thought until last night they lost by
We're down 27.
I thought they would beat South Carolina, Tennessee,
what is it, Vandy.
And then one more.
I thought they'd win the next four
and we'd all just say, all right, that's fine, we're good,
and then hope to win some others.
Now, I think they win for the rest of the year.
I don't know which.
but the good thing is
they only drop four places in the net
they're still top 25 here
Lenardi just put out as Bracketology
they're a four seed
and we're acting like the skies fall
and they're a four seed after that game
they are.
Now they don't look good
and they need to win some games moving forward
but teams will keep beating each other
and if they can just
I mean we might play on Wednesday
in the SEC tournament
just that's a
I'm kind of ready for that
yeah but here's what's interesting
about okay let me just say
let's just say you play on Wednesday
and you let's say we're that
I think if we finish
8 and 10 like you all do. We might be the
nine seed in the SEC tournament.
So what would that mean? You'd play on Wednesday
and we might literally
open the tournament up. The nine
seed will play at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
What if it was against Arkansas? It'll probably be
against South Carolina. So you'd play
South Carolina. Then
you'd play the next day, maybe against
Vandy or Mississippi State.
And then you might win that. And then
you'd probably play Auburn and that's not great.
But you could end up getting two wins
in the SEC tournament that way. Helps your
made it.
And you might then go into the NCAA with like 21.
20 wins, you know.
So.
And I'm looking for something positive here, okay?
Well, I'm as down as anyone.
But if they beat Tennessee and Rupp two games from now, would anyone be surprised?
I mean, we just saw what they did Tennessee in Knoxville.
So if they could do that, I mean, we'd be very confused because this year has been a roller coaster.
But, I mean, they're still capable of it, even though they looked so bad.
I think Saturday is a huge game.
I mean, it should be a no, no big thing.
But we cannot lose.
No.
No.
Then you worry about it, just unraveling with people's, you know, where their headspace is and just the locker
room.
I think it's not just the fact they lost last night.
It's how they lost.
I mean, it was 14, but it felt like it should have been like a 40-point game.
I felt like Kentucky was never even in it.
Yeah.
Who's up next, Shannon?
Let's go to Richard.
Richard.
I'd be surprised if Kerr plays.
I appreciate the call.
I think I'm targeting.
This is just a prediction.
Saturday, the 22nd at Alabama for my.
for my Butler return.
But I'd be surprised if you see Kerr.
Even if he gets cleared, that's an injury that needs a bit of a time to come back with conditioning,
everything else.
It's been so long since he's played.
I hope we see him, but I don't even think you're going to get the best Kerr,
even if that foot gets back to 100%.
Jimmy Dyck said last night, Butler was at least jogging during the shoot-around just to kind
to keep his conditioning in line.
Kerr's had that boot on forever, man.
He's going to take him along.
Even when now the boots off, he's going to take him a long.
time to get back in plane shape.
Yeah, I would say hope for Butler,
let's get Butler back.
If Kerr happens, it's a bonus.
I like to what they said what Ryan just noted.
On the broadcast, they said he was a participant in shoot around.
He didn't do everything, but it's more than he's been doing.
So it sounds like he's getting closer and closer.
Who's next?
Darren.
859-28027, Darren.
Hey, guys, what's up?
What's going on?
This is a technical comment.
I guess, about what's going on with the cats.
Everybody says, oh, we got to shoot the ball a little better on the easy bunny shots in the lane,
or we've got to play better defense.
And I'd love to hear your take on how we accomplished that.
I watched the play last night sitting there with my wife,
and I'm seeing guys that don't close out even.
I'm seeing guys that leave their feet on shot fakes.
I'm seeing guys that don't keep their butt to the baseline.
I'm seeing guys that allow cutters to cross their face.
I see no connection defensively when the five are on the floor working together.
And you've got to be able to have that communication defensively and have a flow
and know that your guy is going to be there if you get beat.
And I think that's part of the problem.
We have guys that get beat off the bounce, and they're depending on help to be there.
The help's not there.
Then they just all turn around and look at each other and hold their palms up, which you saw that.
No, there's a lot of that.
There's a lot of that.
So I sit on the post game.
I appreciate the call.
I think defense is a,
our problems are 50%.
We just ain't athletic enough.
And that part's not going to change.
Yeah.
Okay.
So some of it, to me, is like,
we're giving up 80 to almost everybody.
The difference between 80 and 98, though,
are the things we can fix.
Like closing out on shooters,
like cutting off baseline, like rotating over, like sticking your arms in the air when people shoot.
Trying to get a steal.
So I don't think there's going to be anything we can do that keeps us from giving up 80 on nights like that.
But we still could have won with 80 if we don't give up 98.
And I think the difference between 80 and 98, Drew, is the fixable part.
Yeah, and there's guys on the roster that are just never going to be good defenders.
That's how they're built.
but there were early possessions in the game
where I'm looking at the TV and I'm like they're not even in a defensive stance.
Yeah.
They don't even, are they even, do they know they're on defense?
It was just like standing up stiff as a board kind of looking around.
It's like at least bend your knees and act like you're going to attempt to play defense.
On the other end, they're up in our grill, man.
Their effort was outstanding last night.
Yeah.
But I will say when I watched that, they will miss wore themselves out in the second half.
So part of it is withstand that first half per day.
They cannot play that kind of defense the whole game.
Right, they just can't, but we also, we have to handle it better.

Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker, this linebacker whops up to me.
He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue of 42.
Hey, Brett, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Where's she at?
Hey, Miss Parker.

I'm not worried about Balligan.

My only concern is what happens in the back.
The biggest decisions.
If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team.
And the truth about the U.S. national team.
It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals.
The World Cup is almost here. Experience it all with us.

What's up, fam?
It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast,
Point game is about defying the odds.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reed.
He has to guard Julius.
Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He run up the court,
licking his fingers, why he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah,
you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
859-280-2287.
You just told me something that I find absolutely amazing that you have to say
because we might as well have a little bit of fun.
So Kentucky has a commitment from a kid named Acadon Lewis.
So that's the first part.
Now give me the part you just said.
So I follow his dad on Twitter,
and he put out a flyer yesterday that says,
This Saturday, after Kentucky, South Carolina, Akaden's mom will be DJing in Lexington.
Turns out she's...
Stop right just a second.
Akaden Lewis, who's coming to Kentucky as a freshman next year.
Big time freshman.
His mom is a DJ.
Yes.
Okay.
Start with that.
That's an interesting story to me.
Yes, it is.
Because I'd like to think of, like, my mom is a DJ.
Like, let's go back when you went to college, all of you.
And I want you to think about, like, I'm about to go to Transylvania University.
at that point my mom would have been 42 right I think that's right yeah 42 and I'm about to go to
trancy and she is a DJ okay can you imagine like her on the ones and twos right and funny you say
that in the tweet it says a Caden's mom will be on the ones and twos I don't even know here's what's
interesting I don't even know what that means ones and two I don't either like I always hear people say
that it's on the ones and twos, Shannon, what does it mean to be on the ones and two?
I don't know exactly, but I think, you know, you got two records in front of you.
There's one and two.
The ones and twos.
Is that what it is?
I think that's what it is.
Okay, so I, you know, Karen would be on, she would be MC Karen, and MC Karen on the ones and twos.
So a Caden Lewis mom is coming to Lexington.
She's going to be on the ones and twos.
Tell me more.
The party is called Throwing shade.
I think that's one.
Shane.
I think that's what her events are called.
But the best part of all this, because we all love a good puns, some creativity.
Love puns.
Her DJ name is Farah Flossett.
Stop it.
I love it.
Stop it.
I'm going, by the way.
I'm absolutely going.
I will 1,000.
The name is Farah Flosset.
Yes, DJ Farah Flosset.
Come on.
Wow.
She's throwing shade February 8th from 3 to 7 after the game.
I'm there.
You're telling me DJ Flahera Flaher Flossett is going to be on the ones and twos.
Yes.
Saturday night.
Yes.
And it's a Caden, Louis.
this is mom. Yes. We've had some fun. I'm going. Where is this place?
It's right over here at the Manchester. It's at the Los Palms. Loss Palm on the roof.
On the roof. Right, you can walk from your front door. Actually, can I park at your house?
Yes, you can park in my house. Here's a thing. We've had several players come through that have fun parents.
There's several that if I pass them on the street. Who are the best parents in UK history?
My two favorites just off top of my head are Carl's dad, Carl's mom, rest of peace.
and BAM's mom, loved Bams' mom.
Great calls. Carl's parents, Bams' parents, the Patterson's, Tawanna, and I forget his dad's name.
Buster. Buster. That's exactly.
Willie's grandparents who have said.
Quickly's mom.
Yes.
Remember Quigley's mom and aunt? They would sit there.
Eric Daniel's mom. She came to every game wore his jersey.
Ah, twins' dad. They always showed him in the crowds, right?
I like this. Farah Fossett is right there.
That's my point.
I think we might be welcoming in a new set of parents and to our fan favorites.
Now, the question is, what would my mom's DJ name be?
If that's Fair Flossett, you know what you know about.
All right, so our fans are creative in the text machine.
772-744.
Here would be the information you need to know.
Mom's name's Karen.
She likes to sing gospel music.
Okay.
She can play the piano.
So she can be a DJ that can play the piano.
My mom's got an amazing.
Boys. Would you agree with that? She does. She really does. Amazing voice. She was a prosecutor, right?
She went to seminary. That's all you need to figure out what's the name you can give that can compete with DJ Farrah Flossett.
See, I'm still picturing her with her ray bands on, sleeves rolled up, and they're scratching the music.
Yes. Can Larry be playing the bass behind her?
Larry would play the bass. It's a package deal. You don't get. You don't get. Larry is got. Larry is
the base. Larry, we can picture Larry in the glasses. We could set this up at KS.
I'm trying to think of a hymn. Make it a little just as I am. But
Wiki, wiki, wiki. Are you boss? Wiki, wiki. In the blood.
Wiki, wiki, wiki. You need the horns in the background?
In the soul cleansing blood of the lamb. All right, who's up next? Mark.
Mark. Mark. Go ahead, Mark.
Fair of flosset
Hi guys
What's up?
I have to admit I
I have to admit
I was deciding all day yesterday
Whether to watch the game
Listen to the game
Or go to a high school girls game
And I decided to go to a high school girls basketball game
And I get there and I find out that
The visiting team I'm talking to this lady sitting next to me
She said we haven't won a game all year
We're zero and 14
And we scored each team.
points in our last game.
Well, they're now zero and 15, but they doubled their point total from the previous
game.
Well, that's good.
Why didn't you want to watch the Kentucky game?
What was your, what was, like, you, I assume you're a fan.
Why not, why did you want to skip it?
After Saturday, I, I just, it was so, such a downer.
And I just didn't know what to do about it because I, I didn't have a high expectation
of what was going to happen.
Yeah, well, turns out you were right.
I wanted to watch it, and yet I did want to watch it.
But the reason I really wanted to call it, I heard, because I didn't miss your show.
I will listen to your show after the game, the call-in show, every time.
It's like the sanity hour.
It keeps me sane.
But I heard you talking about what you have for tomorrow.
Yeah.
And I had an experience with, I was scheduled for a colonoscopy.
and you have to drink the salt water stuff, right?
Well, it's pills now.
Well, anyway, I didn't realize they have the sweetener to go with it, and I didn't find it.
And so I was drinking the salt water without the sweetener.
Oh, yeah, don't we have to do that.
That sounds gross.
I'm sorry I might have to go to break, but that sounds like an awful thing.
I'm sorry you had to do that.
I appreciate the call.
Yeah, I start this afternoon with the stuff.
I'll make you see how that goes because I've not had been on the pills.
I've always had to drink that stuff also.
So tomorrow, you have to do it in two phases.
Phase one is tonight.
Phase one, I have to get up early tomorrow and do.
And then come to the show, I might still be going through phase two on the air tomorrow.
He says he's going to walk to the show tomorrow after he takes this pill.
Turtle walk to the show tomorrow.
You got everything you need, got your books, got your paper.
Well, I have to walk so he can take me to the thing.
I can't have my car.
That's true.
I can come pick you up.
I can pick you up or Ryan.
So you want me to have that in your car?
Well, at least I can get you maybe to the Hyatt bathroom faster than when you're walking at the sidewalk.
For your car.
Mario, get your camera ready tomorrow.
I'm going to have to spread out at some point.
All right, we'll take a break.
Yes, you are.
