This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

Starting point is 00:02:37 Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live Friday, February the 7th at Kentucky branded out next to Fayette Mall for what we've been coming out here for 10 years. Probably one of the best day of deals I think they've ever had. You can give us a shout on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line 859-280-2287, A-Vision Auto Glass Text Machine, 777.7, 770. 7274-5254. And this edition is sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office, you call T.J. He'll make them pay. Guys, we've been doing shows at Kentucky Branded since it first opened. I think we were at maybe their grand opening.
Starting point is 00:03:14 I don't think they've ever done what they're doing here today. They have buy one, get one free t-shirts and hoodies. So start with that. So, I mean, there's UK gear, there's KSR gear, there's player gear, buy one, get one free. Then 20% off the entire store. like I can't do the math, but you do the buy one, get one free, and the 20% off. That's like 93% off, I believe, by the numbers. It's an unbelievable deal all day here at their other stores, and then online, for those of you
Starting point is 00:03:43 that live elsewhere, Kentucky branded.com. And then we're just handing out gift cards the entire time. We just gave one for 25, but we're giving one for like 200 at the end. Drew, I've never seen the deals, and I, you know, I'm not a big shopper, but I just gave a ton of clothes away to charity, and I think I'm going to replace them with UK clothes from here. Every time we come here, I and many others end up leaving with a big bag full of stuff because of the deals are so good. And even though we've had this NIL era a while you look up, and I'm still getting used to like Travis Perry hoodie on a mannequin and a Trent Noah T-shirt,
Starting point is 00:04:15 but it's good for those players that they get to have that, and they have a lot of it here. And we have a brand-new stock ride of KSR gear. I said, let's update our selection a little bit. So now they have really nice hoodies. Nike hats, they're a little expensive, but they're worth it. My Nike KSR hat, I've had for a decade. So nice to see new KSR gear as well. With Valentine's a day a week away. Nothing says love.
Starting point is 00:04:38 You think that's what you're like? Nothing says love than like a KSR T-shirt. I mean, what more you want to score points with your money. I don't think I've ever dated someone that that's what I think they would have wanted. But I do think there's some people listening that that's what they would have wanted. but I would take it as a gift for me. Yeah, to each their own. But, I mean, that, and you've also got Nashville coming up with the SEC tournament.
Starting point is 00:04:59 That's true. You may need to get some update to your wardrobe. This is a great place to do it. All right, so it's nice to see you guys. Sorry I missed yesterday. I was otherwise detained with the colonoscopy 2025. Got a clean bill of health. They said, I don't have to come back for 10 years.
Starting point is 00:05:16 Oh, wow. He said normally they give five-year. uh, tickets, he said, but occasionally if we go in and it's a hundred percent clean, we give a 10 year golden ticket. And Ryan, they gave me a 10 year. I felt like I had won. I was like cheering my colon on when I got home. I was like, well done.
Starting point is 00:05:35 That's what I, that's what I'd been hoping. Well, I, I can tell you this now. What do you mean now? When I went back to get you, I was secretly was getting ready to videotape you because I thought you'd be out of it on your, you know, anesthesia. Yeah, you wanted to make, yeah, because they called you back. It's real. When they go, who's with you and you say,
Starting point is 00:05:51 Ryan and they go, how's he related to you? And I said, not at all. And then you came back and you were going to tape me. I was going to tape you. I go back there and you're a little druggie, but you're very, you know, alert and awake. More coherent than you are telling the story. No doubt about it. Did you reward your colon with the cheeseburger?
Starting point is 00:06:11 I knew he was fine when, like, he started bragging on himself. 10 years. I don't have to come back for 10 years. I'm a very competitive person, Shannon. They said they only give the 10-year one to like 3 to 5% of the people. I was like, that's right, Colin, me and you. I can't wait for the next Ambien show. My colon is cleaner than yours.
Starting point is 00:06:31 That would be a good bragging point for it. So I do want to say to people, first of all, you should do it. It's really easy. Like, it's, I mean, the prep is not the most fun thing in the world. But, like, I actually think people talked it up a little more. Like, I was expecting it. Ryan, you've done this, so I'll talk to you. I was expecting it to be awful.
Starting point is 00:06:54 I mean, it's not the greatest, but it's not awful, you know? I mean, the only part, I had to take those pills. Taking 12 pills in 15 minutes when they're big horse pills, that's actually kind of a, by the 10th one, you're gagging a little bit. But besides that, I didn't think it was that bad. It's not really that bad. You just don't want to stray far away from your restaurant. Yeah, that's why I didn't come to the show, is I thought, you know what?
Starting point is 00:07:17 This is, I don't know that everybody needs to be part of this part of. Mario would have some really good content of you running down the hall into the restroom every five minutes. I don't know if everybody wants to see that. Now, when I went to the place, I was the youngest person in the building by 30 years probably. No, I mean, Ryan, you were there. I was the second youngest person. It was not. So when I saw that, my thought was, you know, we do need to tell people, like if you're 45 to 50 years old, you need to do it, right?
Starting point is 00:07:48 because it doesn't seem like to me maybe a lot of people are doing it just by the thing that was there. But you should. You know, I had some of you write me. I had like three or four of you write me and say that you wish you had done it earlier because like they waited until they were in their 50s and then they caught something that was more advanced. And if they had done it earlier, they might have caught it. So I'm just here to say like everybody acts like, Drew, it's the worst thing in the world. First of all, you get your best 20 minutes of sleep of your life.
Starting point is 00:08:18 give you this thing called, what's it called? Propopal or something like that. They give you that, and I said to the woman that was doing it, she goes, all right, we're going to give you the anesthesia in just a second. And I said, you know, sometimes it's really hard for me to fall asleep. And she said, I'm undefeated. And the next thing I remember is waking up in a different room. So she is undefeated.
Starting point is 00:08:42 And then you wake up, and it's like the best 20 minutes of sleep you ever have. I'm actually looking forward to mine. I'll probably have one before the year's over. but did you take yours and put it on the fridge, just have like a sticker that says like a N8 plus? When it's over, when it's over, they give you a picture. A picture?
Starting point is 00:08:57 Actually, they give you 10 pictures. They give you your colon from every angle. And, you know, you don't really see that part of you a lot. At least I don't. Maybe other people do. I've seen your butt cheeks. Yeah. Well, here's what I was going to say.
Starting point is 00:09:10 I've got a, you can't embarrass me with the butt cheeks picture anymore. I got a whole other level of it. Can I get an autograph copy? If you want, I will notice, though, when you, other people aren't as excited to see that about you as you are. I don't know what, as I was looking at him, I was like, well, it looks good. It feels like that's what it's most. It's me. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:32 I recognize that. I can tell who I am in that one. But, but, yeah, so I do highly recommend it. And I do want to thank Ryan because that was actually very nice. You know, Ryan comes in, he's got the smiling little face. He took me to get something to eat when it was over. It was very nice if you thank you very much for your help. You asked if you got a cheeseburger, went to the cookout drive-thru.
Starting point is 00:09:52 Uh-huh. Cheeseburger. Yep. Yeah. Actually, why does everybody like that place so much? I mean, it's okay. It's cheap for a reason. Yeah, I feel like that was, I should have picked a different place for my first thing.
Starting point is 00:10:05 But anyway, glad to get that done. Thank you to the doctors there, and it was worth it. There was one more thing when you were going under your anesthesia, you told the lady, it's not working. And he goes, you're almost, you know, when you said something, I just told that story. No, you did. You left out the part where she said, you're almost done.
Starting point is 00:10:22 You're almost there. I'm not asleep yet. And she said, I'm almost there. And that's when you went out. Do you remember Todd telling that story? I just told the story of what happened. Well, you didn't throw that next line. But you weren't back there with me.
Starting point is 00:10:34 No, you were telling me when I came to get you. Oh, okay. Well, I don't remember that part. Oh, really? I had to be there a moment. Yeah, 859-280-2287. Thanks to all of you who wrote me nice notes going into it. And tomorrow, if we lose, it might be a postgame show worse than the colonoscopy was for PrEP as we play South Carolina at home, who is not won a game yet in the SEC.
Starting point is 00:11:01 They're like 0 and 8, 0 and 9. I'm not sure which. O and 9. They come in here. I haven't seen. Have you seen a spread yet? That'll come out probably right after the show. Yeah, usually the afternoon.
Starting point is 00:11:10 I have not seen a spread, but I'm going to guess what? Kentucky by 11, 12, probably. 10 and a half. Yeah. So, I mean, it's probably going to be somewhere around there. You and I've been pretty good at guessing these. This is a, Ryan, this is a can't lose game. I mean, there's, you know, like next week we play home, Tennessee, road, Texas.
Starting point is 00:11:30 You know, you could say, well, I hope we win, but it's not the worst thing. You've got to win this one. There's no scenario where you go into the rest of the season, at least for me, with confidence if you lose this game. You've lost what? Your last two home games. You've lost four your last five. You have to beat this team. the team that comes in limping in are the worst than the SEC,
Starting point is 00:11:49 and if you don't take care of business at home, well, then you've got to get more issues than we think. Drew, I also look at it as, look, right now, teams 14, 15, and 16 in the SEC. At least Arkansas, Arkansas moved up, but they were 14, 15, and 60. They were the only three teams in the air, 16, 17, 8, whatever it is.
Starting point is 00:12:08 The bottom, I forget how many teams are in the conference now. The bottom three teams, the three teams that are projected to not go to the NCAA tournament. You have this weird schedule where you play them all at home. We've already lost to one of them. We can't lose to a second one. You just can't. I mean, you can't.
Starting point is 00:12:23 Saturday is the must-win game of all must-win games. And they've dropped the ball in this game the last two years. Kentucky was a 19-and-a-half-point favorite in South Carolina came in a interrupt two years ago and beat them. That's still my, I think, most embarrassing loss we've had. I really do. It was two years ago. Last year, a double-digit favorite there. Lamont Paris is actually 2-0 against Kentucky, which is outrageous.
Starting point is 00:12:43 And this team, I'm not trying to hype them up too much. They're dead last in offense, which is very good. The defensive struggles. But five of their non-losses to rank teams were by a margin of three points. I mean, they took Auburn to the wire. They had a game. They should have won the game against Auburn. They had a game in overtime.
Starting point is 00:12:59 They took Alabama to the wire. Florida was one-point game. Yeah, even though they've lost every game, they've been in all of them but a few. So, I mean, they're bad, but maybe not as bad as the record shows. Yeah, but no excuse. We got to win. I don't care how bad. an 0-9 team cannot come in here to rub and win if you're wanting to do something.
Starting point is 00:13:20 You know, I think Kentucky probably makes the tournament, even if they only win their three home games against LSU, South Carolina, and Vandy. I don't want to make the tournament that way, but I actually think we would. But if you lose tomorrow, now the possibility of not making the tournament is a real possibility, and we just can't happen. Tomorrow is one of those games where they have to get off to a great start and not fall behind. If they get out to a good lead at halftime and just push down the gas in the second half, Kentucky, I think, can win in a blowout. But you don't want to leave South Carolina any chance to hang around because, as we just talked about, they can fight.
Starting point is 00:13:54 And we can't stop anybody. So part of the thing is I don't want to get down into a one possession game here or there because we can't stop anybody. And we've got to have a big enough lead. It doesn't matter. There's also the fact right, it's a noon start. Now, we've played pretty well in these noon games. in these noon games, but it is a noon start. You know, I think losing the Arkansas game has taken a little bit of the wind out of the
Starting point is 00:14:20 sales of this fan base a little bit. I don't get the sense the fan base is angry, but I also don't get the sense that the excitement is what it was a week ago. So I kind of think, Ryan, you got to win this to get it amped up again. Then Tennessee comes in Tuesday. People will be excited for that because it's Tennessee. but not if we lose today. Like you've got to win.
Starting point is 00:14:42 I totally agree with you. Arkansas did kind of take the wind out of our fan base of sales. And then not just that they lost the night, it's how they lost the other night down in Ole Miss. It's like those two losses combined does kind of seem to have affected our fan base and our attitude and our expectations.
Starting point is 00:14:55 That's why you have to win tomorrow. Now, with all that said, I feel good about it. I mean, I do feel like you mentioned South Carolina's last in offense. I mean, we pick a number we need to score. We score 76 we win this game. I mean, I do think if you play anywhere near your potential, I think we can have a bad offensive game and still win this game if we do well. Yeah, I'm always afraid of my jinx since I'm on this historically cold streak right now,
Starting point is 00:15:21 but they're not a good three-point shooting team. No. contact practice yesterday. That's a good news. I don't think he will play Saturday. I kind of don't think he'll play against Tennessee just because of the physicality. But I think you might seem that next Saturday at Texas as the game that he might get back. So that's good. I don't think he goes back to practice, Ryan, unless he was going to play eventually. So I was glad to hear that. Yeah, you're hearing these little things come out little by little. You know, he worked out during the shoot-around, just horny's conditioning, run up and down the floor. He's at non-contact drills yesterday. So these baby steps to get him ready when we really need him when March starts. Their point guard just came back from an injury.
Starting point is 00:16:13 He's only played four or five games, but he averaged like 17 in those games back. So there's still not a good offensive threat, but at least he's a guy that can go. Got to win. Got to win. Got to win. That crowd tomorrow, I know it's not the most exciting, but if you go in that stadium, arena, do not let them lose. Because this is one of those.
Starting point is 00:16:33 I don't care if it's about one point or 25 points. We've got to win tomorrow. You cannot lose this one. Or for the first time all season, making the tournament becomes a little shaky to happen. 859-280-2287. We are here at Kentucky Brandon. We're going to talk about,
Starting point is 00:16:51 I'm sure you all talked about yesterday, but we've got to talk about Mark Pope breaking things. There's a lot of stuff to get into. We'll be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
Starting point is 00:17:08 That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves. Their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context and ask the questions everybody wants answered.
Starting point is 00:17:36 SportsSlice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to SportsSlice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Sliced Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. What's up, fam, this Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
Starting point is 00:18:04 His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall.
Starting point is 00:18:24 And then he has to give us every. everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get to fly. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah,
Starting point is 00:18:43 you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the Fourth. And on my podcast, The Clifford Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee.
Starting point is 00:19:03 We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Miss Parker.
Starting point is 00:19:27 Listen to the Clifford Show on the IHeart Radio. app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, I'm Jared Adano. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet. Help! Somebody! Please! But there's so much more to me than that.
Starting point is 00:19:42 I'm an actor. I'm a comedian. And recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike! I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified.
Starting point is 00:19:59 to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff rant and recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man. If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone,
Starting point is 00:20:11 let it ring twice. One ring is too scary. Cream a chicken suit. Hey, cream. Cream a chicken suit. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know.
Starting point is 00:20:24 Listen to Help from Hypocrite as part of the Mike Coutura podcast network available on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio, 859, 280, 2287. A couple things tomorrow. The bar will open at 9 a.m. for breakfast.
Starting point is 00:20:44 We're serving breakfast before South Carolina. They're making it up today. I'm a huge fan of our breakfast. We only do it a handful of times a year, but we're doing it tomorrow. We'll open up at 9 a.m. Our pregame show starts at 9.30. So if you want to come on your way to the game
Starting point is 00:20:59 or just come by and then you can watch the game, there starting at noon, but we'll open up the bar at nine. So a couple hours early tomorrow. If we win the game, which that we better win the game. If we win the game, I'll do the post-game show from the bar as well. I'm, you know, that's got to happen. Like if we don't, then be looking for me somewhere else with a picture of my colon rolling around being upset. You brought this up a couple of times. Are you legit concerned that that might be a possibility that they lose this game tomorrow? I'm only concerned to the extent that, you know, we just don't have a dude that make sure we don't lose games like this.
Starting point is 00:21:41 Like I felt like on the last 15 years, our great teams, there was a guy that I could say, okay, well, even if we stink, this dude's going to make sure we don't lose this game. We just don't have that guy. I mean, Jackson Robinson is about 80% that guy, but he's not 100% that guy. And I'm not sure, you know, O-Way driving to the basket to force us to get a layup. I just don't know that that's the thing. And we can't stop people. So whenever you can't stop people, that hurts you too because you can't get that. I mean, even at Old Miss, we cut it to 11.
Starting point is 00:22:17 You get a couple stops. Maybe it's a game. We just can't get the stop, you know? The defense is like 90% of the worry for me. I wasn't even down on the team after the Arkansas lost. I mean, I was down that they lost that game because of what was on the other side. I still wasn't that disappointed in the basketball team. It's just they shot it well.
Starting point is 00:22:34 That first half against Ole Miss, I was just like, what the hell is this? People weren't even trying, and if they keep doing that, anybody can beat them. Yes. Tonight, by the way, St. John's and Yukon tonight at 8 o'clock on Fox, there are very few non-SECC games that I really look forward to. I think tonight will be pretty awesome. I mean, Rip Petino, if Patino wins tonight, Ryan, they could win the Big East, which is crazy.
Starting point is 00:23:00 I mean, they probably need to win the night. But if they win the night, now he's on the road at Yukon, that's going to be a crazy environment there. This will kind of be the best of college basketball tonight with St. John's and Yukon. I think you want to watch this game just because of the potential of the fireworks with Danny Hurley kind of been mouthing the whole season, and Rick bringing St. John's into Yukon, I think this could really be an exciting game to watch. I'd like to see.
Starting point is 00:23:22 You think Rick might punch Danny Hurley at some point? I'd like to see that, actually. Just a little 71-year-old cross-check there for Rip. Rick still looks like he's in great shape. He could probably do that. Who would you take in a fight? Rick or Dan Hurley. Hurley is, though, he would just mall early.
Starting point is 00:23:37 Danny's got 25 years on him. Yeah, and I bet Danny, you know, you got a mouth like Danny Hurley. You have to have been hit in the face at some point in your life. I thought he with Patino, though, he's going to fight dirty. He's going to give you a low blow, and he won't even give you a chance to get a... Here's the problem to fight Patino. Yeah. I've been to a St. John's game since he's been there.
Starting point is 00:23:58 There's some shady characters. around Rick. But, you know, like the whole, I don't want to say he hangs out with the mafia, but there are dudes that look like they could have been extras in the Sopranos and all those St. John's games. I'd be very careful messing with Rick. They're donors. Yeah, donors are the Bada Bing.
Starting point is 00:24:17 They're right. I wouldn't want to trace where the cash is coming from for their NIL. Tonight I'm actually going to root for Rick. It's the rare occasion where I hate the other team a whole lot more than anything he has. Oh, I root for Rick. Oh, absolutely. I despise you guys. It's a good defense-vers offense matchup, too. It should just be a good game overall.
Starting point is 00:24:33 It should. 859-280-2287. Here's my question for the fans. Are you still confident? You still feel that confidence about the team. Are you still like, not about Pope. I think 97% of people still are caught, but about this particular team, do you still have confidence?
Starting point is 00:24:52 Who's up first? Got John up first. Go ahead, John. Rick's taking his time. Don't you worry about it. Rick works at his own pace. Go ahead, John. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:06 Hey, I'm glad to hear you talk about the, I've got a reverb back there, it's bottom of me. I'm glad to hear that y'all are talking about this, potentially a tough game. I looked it up, South Carolina, 16 points away from being 5 and 4 in the conference with wins over Auburn and a number of other ranked teams and possibly being ranked themselves. So I hope the BBN shows up. We just bought our tickets, and we'll see y'all in the morning before the game.
Starting point is 00:25:43 Yeah, well, please come by. And yes, you do have to be careful, but I also want to say this. I appreciate the call. If you're going to be good and you're going to do anything in the tournament, you've got to beat the O and 9 team. I mean, yes, they were 16 points. They could be 5 and 4, but guess what? They haven't won any of them.
Starting point is 00:25:58 So you've got to make sure you're not the first one they get. The same thing with Arkansas last week. Yeah, you know, they lost close games, but you can't be the one to get them going hot. Looks like we've done that. Like we can't be the one to get South Carolina to turn around. Yeah, especially when it's just the style of play in the matchup you won. They don't score a lot of points. They've got a big guy who's first in the SEC and field goal percentage.
Starting point is 00:26:20 They have two guys that can go out and get double doubles, but really just overall. They're probably a little better than their record, but they're still just not a good team. So if you want Kentucky to be what Kentucky should be, this should absolutely be a win. It should be a big win, really. You can't come out like you did against Ole Miss. You do that. You're not going to beat anybody.
Starting point is 00:26:36 Man, they got to get on it from the beginning of the game. They can't wait until – Why do you think this team has struggled starting so much all year? Because they really have. I mean, even when we were winning games, I mean, we fell behind against Duke. We fell behind against Gonzaga. We fell behind Florida. We fell behind a lot of these games.
Starting point is 00:26:53 Like, why do you think we've done that? It's because the data hasn't been collected at that. point. Yeah, but you got to wait until half time. Collect it the night before. You know what? We got a lot of data. There's a lot of data out there. Well, let's talk about Pope for a second. He was bleeding from his hand in his post-game press conference, and then he said he broke a lot of furniture, clearly broke enough to cut his wrist or the side of his hand. What do you think of that? Glad to hear it honestly. I mean, we love that he's so nice and does this stuff after games, and we compare him to Ted Lassow. But when you're taking him,
Starting point is 00:27:27 Seems not playing well, and it's an effort, toughness issue. They need someone to get up in them like that. Sorry, Ole Miss, to your furniture, but that had to happen, and it's good to know Pope has that in him when it gets to that point. He said in his radio show, when he got back, like, you know, this isn't how I do it all the time, but sometimes you've got to run white-hot to let them know and get a point across. There was a couple people from BYU who made a statement this week, Ryan, that he has a secret temper that doesn't come out a lot, but when it does, it can be very, very strong. Did you ever see that in your days following him and working with him?
Starting point is 00:27:59 Never. Not one time that ever think he had that any. He's always the happy-go-lucky, fun-loving guy on the court. But like I said yesterday, he's like a parent. You've got to pick and choose when you do it. You can't do it all the time. It won't have its value effect. You've got to do it in the right moment, and I think they needed it that night.
Starting point is 00:28:14 And it probably comes with he just wants it so bad here. He does. I mean, you just know how bad he wants it. And to play like that and drop the ball. He knows how bad they look. I will say after the loss to Arkansas, there was a part of me that one, to go up to him and go, hey, man, it's going to be all right. You're good.
Starting point is 00:28:29 Like everyone said, I'm not even his friend, and I was, there was a part of me going, hey, man, you know what? It's going to be all right. We'll be okay. So you cannot say he doesn't care. I'm not sure I've seen a coach who cares more than he does. We'll take a break. 859-280-2287 here at Kentucky Branden's KSR.
Starting point is 00:28:52 Watermark, it is Kentucky Sports Radio here live. All right, listen, if we're going to do this tomorrow, Part of it is an energy thing, and you all need to give it like the team. Let's try that again. Welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio. There we go. We need more of that. I just feel like a little bit, and this happens in February a lot.
Starting point is 00:29:13 This is a normal thing because season's long. I feel like a little bit of like malaise coming over the fan base and a little bit of partially nervousness, etc. I mean, part of it was we were running so white-hot on Saturday. I hope the, I mean, this is such a. big game tomorrow and I and we in it we can't lose it I mean we've got you a lot of these other games you've got some flexibility that you can't lose tomorrow Drew we just we can't and that that worries me a little bit yeah I'm wondering about that crowd we've done it twice this year but it was for two top five opponents Florida was fifth Alabama fourth of course you can get up for those games at
Starting point is 00:29:47 11 and 12 you've also I'm sure a lot of people have a big Sunday plan with the Super Bowl so I know it's not the logo that I'll get you out of bed and get you fired up tomorrow but the team's going to need it if you're going to rub we do one person says Matt I I have confidence, but I need to see Pope substitute better to think we can make a run. I'm not, well, not to question the coach, but you know what? People are not emperors. You should be able to question them. You know, they ask Pope about, you may be playing your subs too much.
Starting point is 00:30:18 And Shannon, he said the opposite. He goes, I actually want to play them more. I didn't like that answer. I didn't either. I'm saying, let's get the starters more minutes. Yeah, he said, you know, it's a thing you go back and forth on, but he's like, we survive on energy. And he seemed to suggest we were going to see even more of those guys. Ryan, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:30:40 I mean, maybe he sees something I don't, but I don't know. I know he's trying to save some minutes to keep the fatigue away. But it's February. I mean, we're a month away from March Madness start. I mean, it's time to go through your best guys. They're in condition. They're in shape. They don't need, I think, those extra minutes.
Starting point is 00:30:57 One person said, Matt, what is a percentage chance? We don't make the tournament. I mean, I'd put it at less than 10, but it's not zero, right? It's not, I mean, it's not zero. The question is, I think you make it if you just win South Carolina, LSU Vaney at home. You don't go in excited. You're probably a 9, 10, 11 seed. Like, it's not great, but you're in.
Starting point is 00:31:23 But you lose one of those games, and then it's a conversation at that point. Then you start thinking, oh, no, we got to win a couple of these road games. We've got to pull one off in the SEC tournament. Like, you know, to me, that's the mindset. Yeah, looking at it with some recency bias, we're all very disappointed. But if you just put down all the resumes on the table, Kentucky still has one of the best resumes right now. Now, if you drop the game on Saturday, talking on Sunday, and then that resume took a big hit. But, I mean, there's still third in Quad 1 wins.
Starting point is 00:31:48 I know we hated to lose Arkansas. And they look tough. Well, Mardi still has us as a four seat. Yeah, I mean, Oxford sucked, but you're still a four seed after that game. You're four and five right now. If they go four and five again over the next time again, you're eight and ten. You're eight and ten. You're eight and ten is in, and seven to eleven probably is in.
Starting point is 00:32:07 As crazy as that sounds because of how good the league is this year. I will say if we're like a four seed, y'all better get ready to get in that car again because guess where we'll end up if we're a four seat. Seattle. San Francisco. Oh, close. So. Yeah, I'm pretty sure they have flights to San Francisco.
Starting point is 00:32:23 I'm pretty sure you can pull out that. wallet of yours and pay for them if you want a trip to san francisco from kentucky on four days notice ain't the cheapest thing in the world housing housing's like the most expensive place on yeah so i mean we're going to spend the money on the hotel room you're just go you get you get buy your flight if you want who's um who's up next taco is up next taco how are you taco hey buddy i'm good uh what's going on i got a different take i guess i agree with what folks said the only thing I, you're four and you've lost probably last five. Do you think there was an opportunity miss?
Starting point is 00:33:01 The opportunity missed. As far as maybe he should have started. Go ahead. As far as maybe if he starts Perry as soon as Butler's out and just let him play through, if your four and five was Perry at the point, everybody else is in their position, I think you're looking better coming out of this stretch. Yeah, but I don't know if we'd even be four and five. I mean, I, you know, you think we win at Tennessee,
Starting point is 00:33:23 with Travis Perry playing 30 minutes at point guard? I mean, I think it makes everybody else, they stay in their position so they're stronger in their own position. Yeah, I mean, I actually think Jackson Robinson has played the point pretty well. I mean, I think Jackson Robinson's done a pretty good job. He's scored over 20, I think, in every game since Butler's been out. I think the problem for me has been Kobe Brea can't make a shot, and when we go to our bench, we crash.
Starting point is 00:33:56 I mean, remember, we have starters. I appreciate the call. Take the Arkansas game. Our best players had a plus number. Amari, we lost by Arkansas to 10. Amari Williams was plus four. Otega was, well, Otegis was a little low. But Robinson was like plus one or plus two.
Starting point is 00:34:15 And who am I missing? Amari. Amari had plus. Amari was the highest. My point is our best players numbers were up. The problem was Garrison was minus 16. And those guys, like, it's when we went to the bench that we collapsed in that game. It really wasn't the top guys.
Starting point is 00:34:33 Yeah, I tried to close the book on that game completely, but it still haunts me a little bit of what could have been when they were up 18, 12, and he took those guys out because they were rolling. They were hot. And that's just everything fell off at that moment. You can't go back in time. But I do wonder if he had just stuck with his starters longer. Play your best players if that 18 to 12 could have turned it to 20-something to 12.
Starting point is 00:34:53 Let me flip for a second because in the second hour we're going to be doing basketball. and I'm sure the Super Bowl. Mike Hartline was hired by Mark Stoops yesterday to be an offensive quality control assistant. For people who don't know, his brother has done an amazing job at Ohio State and is now the new offensive coordinator at Ohio State. Ryan, do you like the Mike Hartline hire?
Starting point is 00:35:15 I love it. I've always been a big Mike Hartline fan. His senior year at Kentucky, he had a monster year. His numbers were as good as Jared and Andre Woodson. I mean, he really had a great season, but people don't remember it because he got suspended for the bowl game. It kind of ended badly. Mike Hartline is definitely an example of somebody who suffers from the bias of comparison.
Starting point is 00:35:34 Because, you know, he came after Tim Couch, Jared Lorenzen, Andre Woodson, these guys, even Dusty Bonner, that put up huge numbers. Then in your income's heartline, he has a better season statistically than we've had since. But he gets compared to all the guys prior, and he almost just looked like as a guy who was kind of a failure. And he got suspended for the bowl game, which is the last thing people remember. But he was really good here. Really good.
Starting point is 00:36:02 And if in the last two years we had had him as quarterback, we would have been good. And so I actually am glad. And then it's clear, at least with his brother, his brother is shown to be a great offensive mind. If you're getting a third of that with Mike, I think it's a great high. Oh, it's great. He's been on a good path in his own career coaching. Also, I'm glad he landed here. And he's definitely one that history forgets a little bit how good he was.
Starting point is 00:36:25 That throw to Randall Cobb to beat South Carolina is one of my favorite UK memories. We were losing our minds for that upset, and that's one of a few big wins he had in that spot with really me, I had Cobb, but other than that wasn't some great pieces around him that he was still playing well a quarterback. And I think it's nice to have, you know, you don't have to have 10 of them, Ryan, but it's nice to have one or two guys that are connected to the fabric of this program in it. You know, Shlarman was for a long time. I think there's some value in having a guy who has a connection. here, you know, he didn't play for Stoops. He played before Stoops to get brought in. I think that's, I really was excited to see. I mean, does it make a huge impact? I don't know,
Starting point is 00:37:06 but I think having him around and having a young talent like that is good. I agree with you. You know, Drake Jackson has been on the staff. I think when these recruits come in, they can't connect with them a little better because they played here. They lived it. They know what it means put on that jersey. So I think it definitely a great hire about Coach Stubes. Who's next? Ed is up next. Ed. Go ahead, Ed. Hey, Matt. I've got two here for you.
Starting point is 00:37:32 Go for it. I think it's not just, I think it's, it is important to win South Carolina, but also the way we win. Yeah, I don't care. I don't. At this point, you just need a win. I mean, I think it would be nice to win going away or whatever, but like, we just got to win. If we win by one point on a shot at the buzzer, like, we just need. those numbers to add up, at least in my opinion.
Starting point is 00:38:00 Why do you think it matters how we win? Well, because if we win easily and convincingly, we're on the right track. Yeah, I just want to win. I mean, I appreciate the call. Convincingly it would be nice, but then, like, if we win convincingly, everybody's just going to go, well, they stink. You know, for me, it's just about us getting the W. Because we're what, 15 and 7, like it's time to go 16.
Starting point is 00:38:27 We need that number to move from 15 to one higher at some point. I don't think you're going to get extra credit if you beat South Carolina by one or 15. No. Yeah. I mean the numbers for us, the analytic numbers are going to be what they are, which is we're top five offense. We're a horrible defense analytically, and we got one of the hardest strength of schedules in the country.
Starting point is 00:38:49 And Drew, nothing's going to change that probably for the rest of the year. And if tomorrow ends up being a two-point win, just remember, as we said, Auburn, Alabama. There's a lot of teams that were happy to get out of that South Carolina game with a victory. Auburn should have lost to it. South Carolina was up. South Carolina should have won that game. Starting point is 00:40:31 Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows, without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
Starting point is 00:40:58 He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get to fly. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
Starting point is 00:41:24 So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out.
Starting point is 00:41:48 Look. Quarterback on office. 42. Hey, Red. My mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at? Hey, Ms. Parker.
Starting point is 00:42:02 Listen to the Cliverts show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, I'm Jared Adano. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet. Help! Somebody! Please!
Starting point is 00:42:16 But there's so much more to me than that. I'm an actor. I'm a comedian. And recently, I've become quite the helper. myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hippocrat, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful

Starting point is 00:42:52 Cream of chicken suit. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hypocrite as part of the Mike Coutura Podcast Network available on the I-Fart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live at the Kentucky Branden. Buy one, get one free all day here. Great crowd at Kentucky Branded as always. All right, Shannon, I don't know what made me think this, but this feels.
Starting point is 00:43:26 like a U topic. Hit me with it. Did you see the NFL had their awards last night and Josh Allen was named MVP? That was like one of the first times the MVP was kind of like who's going to win? Normally you know last night you weren't sure, but Josh Allen won. But the only thing anybody talked about was Bill Belichick and his girlfriend. So Bill Belichick is 71 years old. His girlfriend is 25.
Starting point is 00:43:52 Is that right? Mid-20s, yeah. Yeah, 25. They came on the red carpet to walk down the red carpet, and she looked, she was beautiful. She was wearing, like, this crazy, beautiful dress. Not much. And then he was Bill Belichick. He was flexing with his Super Bowl rings on his hand, and he gave her one to wear.
Starting point is 00:44:14 So he had, like, five on his hand, and then she had one on. And then Snoop Dog made a joke. Snoop Dog was like, I'm so old. I can remember when. and he said like the cowboys were good and he said something else and then he goes and before Bill Belichick's girlfriend was even bored and everybody laughed
Starting point is 00:44:36 ha ha ha two things first of all like if you're Belichick like what do you think about that like you just like because he's everyone just makes fun of him constantly about this but they probably also are like nice job Bill Belichick but also it's a little strange what do you think they're all secretly jealous let me tell you if I'm 71 and I can date a 25 year
Starting point is 00:45:02 old I don't care you can make all the jokes that you want because I'm the one who gets the last laugh when I get to take her home at the end of the night so Sarah know that's how you feel I don't know what wait till I get the 71 I'm still I mean she knows how she knows she knows she knows how you feel right now like in general would that be something you would want like would you say that to Sarah we're just talking hypothetically this is in theory I will never coach the Patriots. I will never have, what, nine Super Bowl rings. Yeah. So I don't think we'll ever have to worry about that.
Starting point is 00:45:32 Well, he's got one, he had one on every finger. Well, there were all those other rings. But I don't know. Oh, maybe, oh, you see when he was the Giants defensive coordinator. Regardless, yes, we're all talking hypothetical here. So that will never happen. So we don't have to worry about that. But great for Bill Belichick. My man is living his best life.
Starting point is 00:45:47 So let me ask you a different question. Yes. Let's say you're that woman's dad. There's a decent chance Bill Belichick is older than you. Right? No, I mean, there's a really good chance. I don't know how old her dad is,
Starting point is 00:46:01 but my guess is he's younger than Bill Belichette. Yeah. Ryan, you don't have a daughter, but you have sons. Let's say you had a daughter and she brings home a 71-year-old man, but he's a very successful like your daughter
Starting point is 00:46:17 could at some point inherit that very soon. Do you, are you good? Okay, if we're going to play this out for real, you got to have a sit down with your daughter and say what are you happy does he make you happy is he good because let's just assume she says of course why would i be with this 71 year old man unless he made me happy money makes her very happy and if i get that if i get that for my daughter i'm you're going to be good with i think you have to be it's your daughter's life she's 25 years old
Starting point is 00:46:45 she's so you think you'd just be like what up i i think if he's good to her and she feels happy and So what are you saying to Bill Belichick? Good for you, like literally she's day. That's your daughter. That's your daughter. Oh, I'm still dad. Yes. Oh, my goodness.
Starting point is 00:47:02 I thought I was just a regular guy. You can't look, it's your daughter. You can't look at him and go good job like you have. I think every. Okay, I wouldn't, but think about this for a minute. How were you, like, how old is Gavin? He's 27. Okay, so you're what?
Starting point is 00:47:18 58. Okay, so you are 50. 56 years old. Yeah. And your daughter brings somebody my mom's age home. You're not going to be like, you're just going to be like, what up, Bill? Let's talk about Super Bowl 44? No, I think there's some serious conversations that have to go on.
Starting point is 00:47:40 So let's hear that conversation. Let's act like I'm your daughter. All right. All right. So tell me. I'll be Bill. I'm just here. Dad, I'm dating this man right here.
Starting point is 00:47:52 I just want to make sure you're good with it. Yeah. Bill, can I talk to my daughter alone for a second? Get your hands off my daughter. Okay. All right, dad. He's wonderful. He's 71.
Starting point is 00:48:05 He's going to die soon. And then I'll have, like, all the money. He can still hear that. What is your attraction to him? That's the first thing I want to know. He's so kind to me, and he treats me better than anyone has. Yes, he's old, but no one has ever been nicer. Well, have you thought about that?
Starting point is 00:48:22 If this progresses as he gets older, you will be his caretaker. You'll be taking care of like your grandpa. We'll hire somebody. I'm not wiping up him after it's over. We'll hire someone. And he said he will do that. Well, I want you to look me in the eye. I am.
Starting point is 00:48:37 Does he make you happy? Yes. Do you love him? I mean, kind of, yeah. Well, I would tread lightly then until you feel like you really love him. And if you love him, I support you. I believe in you. I trust you.
Starting point is 00:48:50 to make the right decision. All right, well, there you go. Is that what... And think about this, you're going to be Bill Belichick's father-in-law. Because... Yeah, all right. Well, I mean, I don't have a kid, so I can't say one way or the other. And, like, you know, it's just...
Starting point is 00:49:05 It's an interesting visual, and the person I always think about is, will their dad be... Would their dad be okay? Now, I think I... Here's why I would have a problem. If she was 18 and he was 60. Maybe while she's still at my house, I think I might still have a problem then. That would be an interesting. How would he date her if she was at your house?
Starting point is 00:49:23 Well, she's a senior in high school. Well, yeah, she's a senior in high school. Do we know that she has a father in her life? Because I'm saying, like, maybe he's the father figure. Maybe that's part of the alert. Apparently, she's dated older guys in the past. Like, that's just kind of her thing. Well, I just think it would be weird if you're sitting, like, if you're sitting there
Starting point is 00:49:41 and Snoop Dog is on stage making jokes, I think that has to obviously be strange, you know. I feel the same way about what's the name of the guy, that dates Selena Gomez and at every ward show they just talk about how ugly he is. Oh, yeah. What's his name? Benny Blanco. Benny Blanco, yeah. So I feel the same way for that guy.
Starting point is 00:50:01 Like, he sits next to Selena Gomez and at these shows, they're always like, man, Benny Blanco, you're ugly and you got a hot woman for somebody so ugly. And I'm like, man, that's a little harsh on that guy, isn't it? We a little bit, but again. But he's still dating Selena Gomez. You can say what you want. the end of the day, you're still dating Selena Gomez. I think Ryan skipped one important part of that conversation with his daughter.
