Wings Day, Dollar Wings, all day and night. If you come in throughout, can get them going. A lot of basketball games tonight.
Starting point is 00:03:40 Women play tomorrow against Texas. 859-280-2287 talking cats and balls. Let me do a couple other quick things here besides Cats and Balls, Ryan. All right. Carl Ravich made the mistake that it has to be a joke now people are trying to play on announcers because this is like the third announcer to do this. and at some point these announcers have to realize how stupid they sound, and poor Carl Ravich and his hairpiece did it last night with Jimmy Dykes.
Starting point is 00:04:06 It was during the Texas game, and he goes, the SEC is so balanced in conference play this year, they're 82 and 82. Yeah, no kidding. In conference play, they're playing each other. Somebody has to win, and someone has to lose. Like, they're always going to be – that's true of every conference. Every single conference has a 500 record against each year. When two teams play, one of them has to lose and one of them has to win.
Starting point is 00:04:31 And Carl Ravich said it, and the other night I saw somebody else say it, how stupid are people that they think that that's a stat? Of course they're even. They play each other. So who do you think slid it to Carl? Somebody sent him a message or was there a producer on site? People have been brightened on Twitter. They're like, man, the SEC is so balanced.
Starting point is 00:04:51 Every conference is balanced. Every conference is 82 and 82. They're playing each other. The best part is when people say it, it's like they're about to blow your mind. They're like, you know how good they were in the non-conference since January 500. I mean, come on. Archie Miller did it in a press conference. Yeah, Archie Miller did.
Starting point is 00:05:09 He said it so like I'm about to blow everyone's mind with this stat and then the room just laughs. Why are people so, like, it makes me sad. I mean, I'll be honest with you. There are two things that make me sad. Listening to color commentators in sports and reading my men. mentions on Twitter. Those two things make me sad about the future of humanity. But Carl Ravich is on television.
Starting point is 00:05:34 You've been doing this for 30 years. Like, 82 and 82 is not a surprise. Did Jimmy pick it up, pick up on it, or he just let it go? I think that's one of those things that you just let your guy get away with it unless you have a really good relationship. You know, like I would make fun of mire and for it, but if somebody else did it, I'd probably let it go. I think that's what it was.
Starting point is 00:05:52 Yeah, I only saw it was clipped off. Who knows, maybe Jimmy doubled down and agreed with it, But it is funny. It started as a, like, it just got being silly on Twitter, and it's gotten legs. All right. Now, for this, Ryan, I'm going to tell you something that I think you're going to enjoy, and I think it's going to make you happy. All right.
Starting point is 00:06:09 Because, like, I'm excited about this. I kind of know you. I kind of know the things that you enjoy. I'm reading a book, and by the way, if you all seem to enjoy the book recommendations, I'm going to give you another one. This one is really good, and it's a true story. It's called Wager. It came out last year.
Starting point is 00:06:26 It's about this like ship in Britain that tried to go around Cape Horn in South America. In the 1750s, they ended up like shipwrecked on an island and like Lord of the Flies kind of stuff happened. And it's a true story. And it's really, really good. But in the process of reading the book, they talked about how like ship culture was huge in the 1700s. Everybody was fascinated about what happened on ships. And so it became a part of our language. ship culture. And there's a lot of sayings that we use today that came from back in the day
Starting point is 00:07:02 when people would sail on ships. And so I have some of them. Okay. And I thought you might find these interesting. This was all in the book. Do you know what the phrase tow the line means? I've heard it. But how would you describe just in real life what it means to tow the line? Like you want to get up to the line. Don't cross it. You cross it. Bad stuff could happen. You tow the line. Get up to real close. But don't cross the line. line. That's not really what it means. I mean, it's kind of what it means, but it's not exactly. It means like following directions. Like you go up and you like, you toe the line, you do what people say. I guess it's a little bit of what you're saying. But that came from every day to make sure
Starting point is 00:07:42 no one had drowned and to make sure that everyone was following orders. Everyone would have to go on a ship and stand and there was a line drawn in the ship and you would have to stand with your toes on the line to receive the direction. Never heard that. Okay. What about the phrase pipe down? What does it mean to pipe down? Be quiet. Be quiet. Do you know where that comes from? I bet you're about to tell me.
Starting point is 00:08:06 That's exactly right. Every night, they would play a loud pipe on the ship, which was the sign that all of you had to go to bed. So that was what it meant to pipe down. You've heard the phrase piping hot. Do you know what that is?
Starting point is 00:08:22 That it's like a real, something really, really hot. Burn your mouth. That's exactly right. At a certain time of day, they would play a pipe to everyone, and that would say, hot food is now available for you to eat. It was like a signal that your meal was here. Piping hot.
Starting point is 00:08:38 How about that? So pipe down and pipe hot. How about another one? You've heard the phrase, turn a blind eye to. Have you heard that? Yes. What does that mean? It means kind of ignore it. Don't pay attention to it. Apparently, there was a famous British
Starting point is 00:08:52 General who was being told by his superior don't sail towards battle. And instead, he had one eye that didn't work, and he held his telescope up to the blind eye because he wanted to go into the battle, and he acted like he couldn't see the other way,
Starting point is 00:09:10 but he was actually intentionally holding his telescope to his blind eye. You like that one? Is that a real story? Real story. And then the final one, this is what made me think of you. A phrase you like to use and I like to use. Scuttlebutt.
Starting point is 00:09:26 Yes. Do you know where scuttlebutt comes from? I can't wait to hear this one. Huh? No. Scuttlebutt comes from, there's a part of the ship that was called the scuttlebutt
Starting point is 00:09:39 and that's where people would go to get water and to gossip about what's happening on the ship. So when we say, is it scoop or scuttlebutt, it comes from ships and people getting around the
Starting point is 00:09:51 scuttle butt. It was like the water cooler. of there to gossip with each other. The scuttle butt was the water cooler. So how about those things? Toad the line, pipe down, piping hot, blind eye, and scuttle butt. I really thought that was interesting, and I thought people might like that. My favorite one's the scuttle butt, because I have never heard that explain.
Starting point is 00:10:08 I think we mentioned once on the show, where does that come from, and we didn't really know. And now, Drew, thanks to this book that I read, we know. Another back-to-back history lessons and informative information here on KSY. But we say all these phrases all the time, and we don't, like, why do we say? that, now we at least know for those. I really think kids don't need to go to school. They just listen to our show. You're going to educate them enough. I think that was true until you talked about that commercial during the Super Bowl,
Starting point is 00:10:35 which, by the way, the repulsion. I've heard from women friends of mine. Drew, am I wrong? Even my friends are like Ryan. Ryan, I mean, every woman that listens to this show, the repulsion. I hope you learned your lesson. I did. You know what I didn't do?
Starting point is 00:10:52 I didn't tow the line. All right, I'll let you get one point back for doing that. Who's up next? Charlie. Charlie, go ahead, Charlie. Hey, Matt, first time, long time. Who are? What's up?
Starting point is 00:11:07 So I want to talk about the football season tickets he was talking about yesterday. I actually had season tickets for about 16 years. And so I called the University of Kentucky yesterday to ask them about the pricing of the season tickets going up and the parking issues because we have seven tickets and two parking passes. And at the end of the conversation, the guy says, let me transfer you over to our team to cancel your tickets. And that's the response that we get after having season tickets for 16 years. So did you cancel, did you cancel your tickets, your season tickets?
Starting point is 00:11:47 No. No, I didn't. He put me on hold. I don't know if he actually put me on hold or transfer. me, but nobody ever came on the phone. But I looked at it this way. If they're going to play that game that they play, I'm just going to sit here and hold on to them until the deadline
Starting point is 00:12:01 and not give them an opportunity to have three months to sell them. You know, I mean, I get what, so you're not planning on renewing your seven tickets because of the price increase. Absolutely not. And I have two tickets in a parker pass. I got two buddies that's got tickets in a park pass. It's a total seven tickets and two parking passes. But here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:12:24 We have a tailgate trailer. I actually live down here in your neck of the woods. I live in Claver County. And we pull a tailgate trailer up there. We park in the Purple Lot. And they have moved all these people from the Orange Lot over to the Purple Lot. We were at a game and then they're fussing at us about parking and with a tailgate trailer. Well, we started the tailgate trailer in 2018.
Starting point is 00:12:47 Oh, they were all about us coming up there. And now it's like we want more people in this purple lot. Yeah. No, I mean, that's what they want. That's what they want. Listen, I, and I appreciate the call. I've gotten a lot of feedback from people since we brought up the ticket thing. Here is what I understand has happened, and I think a lot of people are going to have the reaction that guy does.
Starting point is 00:13:08 In years past, when we had eight home games, they would sell the total to you per game based on the eight home games. And then if the next year there were seven home games, it would be a little less because there's one less home game. and the price per ticket would be based on the games. This year they decided, even though we had eight home games last year and seven this year, it would be the same price. So you're paying the same price, but you're getting one less game. So it's easy to kind of sell to people and go, oh, it's the same price, but it's not the same price.
Starting point is 00:13:44 It's actually significantly more expensive because you're getting one less game. And then for parking passes, it's $100 more. donation to the K fund for the parking passes. On the one hand, that may not seem like a ton, but on the other hand, that's a pretty significant rise. I think where it's really an issue is the increase for people who have trailers like that guy or who have RVs. I think there's been a significant increase for that.
Starting point is 00:14:12 And I mean, I get it, but I also think it's being very short-sighted to fans. Like, I think fans feel like they're trying to pull one on them. You're giving us the same price, but we're getting one less game. And I've heard a lot of feedback since we brought on the show of people like this guy who are not Ryan happy about. Yeah, the trailers and the RVs, you're exactly right. That's where the big hits coming from. But that guy says he's got seven tickets. That adds up when you have one less game and you think you're paying the same price, but you're not.
Starting point is 00:14:46 You're paying more because there's one less game. It adds up when you've got seven or eight tickets. And if I was UK, just I'm losing seven. fans, right? Like, I mean, the money's important, but I'm losing seven people that made it a priority to come to my games and help build that environment. I mean, that, that should matter to people. Like, if I'm UK and I hear that, I want to reach out to that guy and just try to win him back. But, like, you've got to, you got to show people that, you know? Yeah, put him on hold and not picking up again. That's not really inviting. And, you know, once the season starts, we're going to
Starting point is 00:15:19 hear from stoops. There's going to be promotions. Hey, fans. We need you. We got to have you. You're a big part of this. Why aren't you here? Well, it's because you increase prices and you haven't been winning at home lately. So, I mean, the fans have given a lot already. They showed up last year and were not rewarded with an SEC win, and the UK is going to get what they get for putting this in this situation. There's a lot about UK athletics that I think they do really well, okay? I mean, I think they've done a great job hiring coaches.
Starting point is 00:15:47 I think the in-game experience in basketball has gotten significantly better this year. Still not where it needs to be in football, but better than it was seven years ago, probably. And there's a lot of things they do that are right. Here's the thing they do that is wrong. UK athletics, and I'll, you know, die on the hill with this. They don't get the average fan. The athletics department does not understand the average fan. They don't.
Starting point is 00:16:13 And the problem is they don't, but they think they do, which is an even worse set of it. They don't interact with the average fan. I mean, I love Mitch, I think Mitch Barnhart's a great AD, but I would ask him, how often do you get, as my mom would say, amongst them, right? Like, how often do you, you know, hey Mitch, before a game, why don't you walk through this bar and see who's here? I know you're always in the club suite, but won't you come walk through here and talk to the people that are at this place. Go walk around the tailgate lot at the football games, right? Ask those people what they think. Not just Mitch, but the other people that write,
Starting point is 00:16:53 because I think the athletic department is as a whole pretty disconnected from the average fan out in the state. Mark Pope, I think, is pretty connected to him. I think for a lot of his career, Mark Stoops did a pretty good job of that. I think the athletic department, Ryan, if I'm being honest, I just don't think they do a good job of it. And I do think you're right, and I think it's primarily the common everyday football fan. I agree.
Starting point is 00:17:16 I think those are the people that feel the most. I agree. Like I said, people still aren't happy. They took away their tailgating in their seats several years ago. Now they're about ready to do it again. Some of those people have left and has still not come back. We just had that one caller. He's been a season taking over for 16 years.
Starting point is 00:17:30 He's not coming back. You know, the team went 4 and 8. Not much you can do about that. But if you're coming out of 4 and 8, you really need to make outreach to the fans the most important thing you do. And, you know, I don't think there's been a ton of that going on. It's the final week to donate to God's Pantry Food Bake and the KSR Donation Drive. Let's team up. Donate $41 to God's Pantry. Everybody out there, to your last chance, help give meals in Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:18:00 Over 44,000 meals have been bought just from this show. We can do even more. So go to godspantry.org slash KSR. Godspantry.org slash KSR. $41 for Mark Pope, or you can pick the number you want. I do it every time I read it. Hope you all will to godspantry.org slash KSR. I'm going to donate 51 today.
Starting point is 00:18:25 That's how many threes Tennessee missed in the two games against Kentucky. I feel like that's a good number. I'll donate. I like that. That's a good. That's good. The win was worth $51 to me. We'll take a break and be right back.
Starting point is 00:18:35 This is KSR. Last night, a blown call changed the game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Listen to Help from Hypocrite as part of the Mike Coutura Podcast Network available on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here. Wings Day, Dollar Wings. We just had a famous UK women's player walk in here and just walk right to the ball. She's saddled up, ready to go.
Starting point is 00:22:22 She's embarrassed her. I didn't embarrass her. No, she's just here because she's going to come on at 1130. 859-2-80-2287. I mean, quickly tell you about court physical therapy. If you're being healthier, saving more money in the new year, go to court physical therapy. Kentucky has leader in physical therapy for more than 30 years, whether you're a chronic resolution breaker or you need to make a lifestyle change towards better help. Court can help you pain free.
Starting point is 00:22:47 It's K-O-R-T-com. Begin your health goals today with court physical therapy. They're everywhere. They're all over the place. They are all over the place. One person writes, Matt, not worried about renewing the football tickets, I will, but I will say this year is going to mean a lot for what I do in the future. I think that's probably right for a lot of people.
Starting point is 00:23:09 Man, the crowds have been great, and they've just not got the Ws on the field. So if they have another season like that, you've got to think some fans will probably because it's not cheap to go to these games. It costs a lot of money, you know. You factor in your parking pass, your seat, tailgating, food, alcohol. It adds up, man. And now when you're trying to buy food, you could be behind a player. I mean, the way to get a hot dog has just gotten outrageous lately.
Starting point is 00:23:34 That's a good line. Two. That's a good line. That's a good line. You don't have to say that. Two things that are separate than the games. This is a sad story. Ben Chrisman was an offensive lineman for Kentucky the last two years.
Starting point is 00:23:54 Played a little on special teams occasionally. He transferred to UNLV during the offseason. He passed away tragically off campus at UNLV. I don't know that details have come out yet about it, but a tragic situation played here for two years. So our prayers to everyone in his family and the team that played with him is an awful, awful story out of Las Vegas. Second thing, a little bit of a different story.
Starting point is 00:24:24 Last night, I thought it was cool. Mark Pope's daughter, Layla, she is on the Utah Jazz dance team. And last night, I guess she learned a routine and did a dance with the UK dance. team wearing her dad's jersey as part of the dancing. They did a dance. The spotlight was on her, but the whole team knew about it and knew the dance. And Drew, it was very cool. Yeah, she got a loud pop, especially.
Starting point is 00:24:52 I don't think everyone really realized at first who it was. I mean, they announced her, but really when everyone caught on, I mean, that was one of the better moments of the night outside of the basketball. And, you know, we were just very critical of UK athletics. But the basketball experience this year has been very good with all the secondary stuff. Got a lot better, yeah. I don't know if you all have heard, but I like that. She was great last night.
Starting point is 00:25:11 But really, the Y has been brought back. It used to feel like it was an occasional, and it was just look around who's there. Last night it was Dwayne Casey. I don't know when he's been back. We've seen so many players that had disappeared for many years, and they've made that a big part. So who does everyone. It's nice that Dwayne Casey has done that as well. I think that's really good.
Starting point is 00:25:29 You guys can, if you, you guys, what, you could go ahead and sit down somewhere. You're good. You don't have to wait up here. 859-280-2287. Who's up next? Let's go to David. David, go ahead, David. Hey, Matt?
Starting point is 00:25:45 No, my goodness, Dave. Hello, how are you? Man, you always bring the volume. I'll say that about you, David. You're always ready. Go ahead. Thank you. I just want to say about what a year Mark Cope is having in his first year.
Starting point is 00:26:02 I mean, he's beating rivals this year. Who would have thought that after he got hired? Well, I mean, Duke, Louisville, Tennessee twice, and Florida, that's a pretty good run against our rivals. Yeah, and I just want to say about Tennessee, that sucks like a big fat orange. That's true. I agree, David. Thank you very much. David's excited, man, and everybody should be excited.
Starting point is 00:26:33 This has been a heck of a few weeks. Set a record last night. Most top 15 wins ever beat Tubby's O3 team. That's a pretty amazing record. In the history of Kentucky basketball, we have won more games against top 15 teams this year than ever before. Now, part of it is we play a lot more. I mean, the SEC is better, so we're playing a lot more.
Starting point is 00:26:54 But still, that's an amazing accomplishment, right? And the fact we beat Tennessee twice shorthanded. We beat Gonzaga short-handed. Some of these superior teams, we're beating them by our bench guys coming off and playing well. I never would have predicted that. And you've got two more opportunities on the schedule. I mean, you could really break that record. Yeah, you still have Alabama and Auburn, and there's a world where Missouri could be in the top 15.
Starting point is 00:27:17 Probably won't, but could be. So in the SEC tournament, you might have more chances. So, I mean, this team really is, I was on Cole Kublich and Greg McElroy's show this morning, and I said this is the best conference in the history of college basketball. And they scoffed a little bit, but I think it is. I mean, you know, there have been years where conferences had teams as good at the top as we have this year. But just think about Arkansas. Arkansas is the 13th best team in the SEC, and they got two first-round picks on their team.
Starting point is 00:27:53 Like, you know, Arkansas's the 13th best team in the SEC. Come on, like the league is crazy right now. Yeah, you know, everybody likes to point to that, what, the big east of 85. That's the only other, I think, one you can compare with. And that one was great. But that Big East only had like nine teams. Like, we have 16 teams doing this. It's amazing.
Starting point is 00:28:16 Yeah, I mean, Arkansas, I think you're being generous, calling them 13th. They could lose to LSU tonight and get really bad. But, I mean, you're talking about a team that had players that were on a good Kentucky team last year, a Hall of Fame coach, NBA draft picks, and they're at the bottom of the standings and can barely win SEC games. Just shows how hard it is. I mean, we are good. we have beat, we're one of only two teams to have beaten Duke, you know, we've beaten seven top 15 teams,
Starting point is 00:28:39 and we're in eighth place in the SEC. I mean, the league is just crazy right now. You know, the NCAA tournament, they try not to keep conference teams away from each other to what, the Sweet 16? That's what they want to try to do, but with us this year, it may make it to where the SEC, they can't do it.
Starting point is 00:28:55 I mean, the goal is to make it to where you don't play each other until the Sweet 16. I actually think that's a huge advantage for the SEC, because there's a chance. Like, for instance, let's say we're a seven or, let's just say we were a seven or eight seat. I'd much prefer to play the ones
Starting point is 00:29:11 or twos from the other conferences than the ones or twos from our conference. Would you rather play Marcette or Iowa State or Purdue? I certainly would. We'll take a break. George Aymour right after this. KS.R. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Starting point is 00:29:27 Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Welcome back, Techie Sports Radio. Hey, everybody in here. Join me and welcoming Georgia Amor from the UK women's basketball team. Listen, first of all, you played on Monday night. We're just going to act like that game didn't happen. Is that okay?
Starting point is 00:29:49 That's totally fine with you. Yeah, that game was, everybody cheated anyway. That game doesn't. I want to go back one game before that. Because I was sitting in a bar watching you all at, What is at Oklahoma? Is that right? I'm telling you something.
Starting point is 00:30:06 I've watched. There was the SEC tournament where we hit the shot at the buzzer to win it a few years back, right? Yeah, Drew Edwards. But I don't know that I've had more hooting and hollering in a bar than I did watching you against Oklahoma. It was in Louisville. I was the only person, like everybody's Louisville fans, and I'm in there, and you're sitting there crossing people up, step back three. You had me like going nuts.
Starting point is 00:30:32 That had to be, that was national player of the week. Like, how awesome was that? First of all, I need to know what bar that's at so I can go in and say, hey, show my face. You should, yes. I was losing it on the bar. People were looking at me like, what's wrong with you? No, it was a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:30:46 Obviously, it's always great to get in a way win, but, you know, with a performance I was lucky to have, obviously. You've got to feel good about it. Do you get in zones where you're like, they cannot stop me at this moment? Because it felt like in the second half of that game you were in it, whether it was shooting or passing, it felt like you were in total control. Yeah, I mean, definitely the zone is a real thing, the flow state, and I had a lot of fun. Obviously, it looks like that, but that's my job, you know, to create shots and pass other people as well.
Starting point is 00:31:13 And I think, you know, you can talk about the points, but I did put a good facilitating show on as well, and that's what I take most pride in. Yeah, I mean, you certainly did. And now you guys hit the part of the schedule where it gets real, right? you all play Texas tomorrow night here top 10 ranked you got LSU coming here you got Tennessee coming here you go to South Carolina I mean those are probably the four best teams in the conference along with you all and you got them all coming are you guys excited I mean the back end of the schedule got loaded are you ready for it yeah super excited I think the way that our schedule was set up it it was nice for us to kind of gain chemistry together and
Starting point is 00:31:51 get to know each other before we hit the ground running and it's the quintessential SEC caliber teams that you have to face at the end of the season, but super excited for it. It's exactly what we came here to do. And it's going to be a loud crowd. How many kids you say we're coming? He's bringing 17 kids on Sunday. Tomorrow night, I kind of feel like it's going to be a wild atmosphere in there. First time Texas has been in Rupp in like 40 years.
Starting point is 00:32:19 What's it like getting ready for that? I mean, this is what you came here for, right? Yeah, I mean, we just heard from marketing that we were. only have a couple hundred tickets left. So obviously it's going to be a good crowd. But, you know, you play against a team like Texas, and it's the first time here, first time playing against us in a regular season. There's a lot of stories and headlines, but it's going to be super exciting to say
Starting point is 00:32:38 the least. Yeah, so let's talk just schedule. You got Texas tomorrow. Then next Sunday is Georgia. Sunday after that is LSU, and then the Thursday after that is Tennessee. Four massive home games. A couple of those, I think, LSU and Georgia are sold out. Texas is still Tennessee have tickets
Starting point is 00:32:56 Tennessee's got a few tickets So there are tickets available for the weeknight games How good are we? We're like 20 and 3 But like are you feeling good about where this team is You've been to a final force So you know what it's like Yeah I mean definitely in a good position
Starting point is 00:33:10 Obviously you have a couple of disappointing losses on the year But honestly who doesn't You know if you're not losing you're not learning So we've learned a lot from that And I think the biggest lesson was just rebounding And for teams that we're playing You talk about the Texas and the Tennessee's you have to limit turnovers and rebound the crap out of the ball.
Starting point is 00:33:27 So that's what we're learning to do. And obviously, when the time comes to do it, we'll know exactly what to do. I want to talk about that moment in that Oklahoma game after you had those points and it was in the passes and all that. You and Kenny Brooks, it was like the sweetest mother-daughter hug. I feel like, or not mother-father-daughter hug. Whoops. Sorry about that. That's what it felt like.
Starting point is 00:33:50 Like he seemed so proud of you, and you all, it's after the water and all that stuff. And it really felt, that was a really kind of special moment. What was that like? Yeah, I mean, it was special because all those moves that I did, all the shots that I created, we work on those things. He sends me clips of NBA players and we work on those moves the next day. So I think it was just kind of a moment where we had to really take it in, how special it was. That whole day, you know, a game against Oklahoma, they ranked, what, 12th or 13th at the time
Starting point is 00:34:20 to beat them on the road by that much as well. You know, it was just special, and we've made an effort this year to enjoy every last day. Win or lose because it is, like, time's ticking for me. Like, I'm out of here soon. You're getting old. I mean, like, you're like social security here soon. I hope it's still available when you get it. Although I guess you're from Australia.
Starting point is 00:34:39 I don't know if you will be able to get it, unfortunately. All right, so since you came on last time, we got, Ryan, the amazing feedback. Everybody absolutely loved you when you were on last time. time. Are you starting to feel like a real connection with people from Kentucky? Yeah, and it's actually the coolest thing. I know I see that you have a country boy advertising here, and this is non-sponsored, but I went there, and it was the coolest thing to sit there, and the guy at the bar was just like, great game the other night. Like, it was kind of chill, but the recognition was cool. The fans here are great. You know, it's a very
Starting point is 00:35:13 respectable fan base, but the excitement is there, so it's cool to be out and about and around the mix with a bunch of people here. Amy, you're just letting her drop. She's just going to Country Boy doing her thing. 24. Almost 24. Yeah, that's you Aussies. You're able to do that.
Starting point is 00:35:31 All right. So since your last time, I had people write in and they had questions for you. Okay. So let's do this. One person writes, I'd like to know from Georgia the most American thing she thinks she's done since she's been here. Like what is the most quintessential American thing you've done? that when you were in Australia, you'd have been like, I would have never done that. My diet change.
Starting point is 00:35:56 But I would say, honestly, like, we went and played in Nashville in the tournament, in a Thanksgiving tournament. And I think just being on that street and going to those. Honky Tonks? Oh, my. I really wanted to buy a hat. I really want to buy a hat. We got a hat. We got a hat.
Starting point is 00:36:12 We bought a cowboy hat. You should get a cowboy. Let me know where they get them, and I will. Well, the ones we went to, that was out in Colorado. but we'll get you a cowboy hat. You like country music? Yeah. You know what I do?
Starting point is 00:36:25 I actually do. Who's your artist? You know what's crazy is when last year, this time last year, I got a huge Chris Stapleton kick. Had no idea he was from this area, right? Yeah, from Eastern Kentucky, yeah. Had no idea until like maybe four weeks ago. I found that out. Yeah, no, we got, we produce all the musicians here.
Starting point is 00:36:41 Do you guys have much of a relationship with the men's team? I mean, it's been exciting to watch both teams play really well. Yeah, I mean, you called me old before, so all the old heads hang out in the training room. So, you know, me and Drew Lamont is in there. But yeah, they're all nice guys. A couple of them are good a conversation. A couple of them I never see. But, you know, that's how it goes.
Starting point is 00:37:01 Yes. Well, that's all right. One person writes, Matt, do you think, does Georgia think when she's done here, she will come back and visit Kentucky? Like, well, this, you know, you were in Blacksburg a lot, too, but will you, you know, players have, like, their college home? Do you think you'll return to Lexington? Yeah, for sure. I mean, a lot of people might not know this, but I did grow up on a horse farm. So my mom, she's coming here actually on Friday,
Starting point is 00:37:25 and she's been to Keenland before. So the horse industry and the vibe of that is appealing. So I wouldn't be surprised if mom uses me as an excuse to go with her back here. Now, what does this team need to work on going into March? You've got not just the, you've got these four big games, then the tournament. What do you think are the things that you need to do to kind of take the next step up and go from a team that's got a chance to make the second weekend to a team that's got a chance to make the final four. Yeah, at this point, you know, scouts out and teams hit their shes.
Starting point is 00:37:54 And so at this point, it's just doing the little things to be successful. You know, it has to be the rebounding. It has to be the controlling of the ball, you know. It's not like we can come out here and magically turn me into a six-foot-five post or anything like that. So it's just the little things that's going to get us across the line. You were on Sports Center yesterday. You were shooting with Matt Barry. You got Matt Barry to rebound.
Starting point is 00:38:14 Yep. I've done ESPN shows with Matt Barry. Did you know he is a stand-up comedian? Didn't seem very funny to me. He's not. So he should go more into broadcasting? No, I'm not trying to be me. There's a reason he used to be a stand-up comedian, and now he's, but that had to be,
Starting point is 00:38:35 I mean, I don't know, you know what SportsCenter is. I mean, that had to be cool to be on there yesterday, right? Yeah, I know. He is a great guy, and he's very easy. To be quite honest, they put the mic on me, and they come. kind of just said roll. And I just went with the floor, but, you know, that's how it goes. And, yeah, it was a great conversation.
Starting point is 00:38:50 And to get Kentucky out there on SportsCenter from the women's basketball perspective, it was great. So give a message to the fans out here before the game tomorrow. And the game's coming up. Like you said, there's a couple hundred tickets left for Texas. There's some tickets left for Tennessee. On the secondary market, you could get tickets to any games. Why did they need to come watch what I think is maybe the best four-game streak of home games
Starting point is 00:39:13 that I can remember? Yeah, the best competition and time truly is ticking, you know. We're on a, you know, level up from probably this time last year, if I don't say so myself. I think you can say that. Yeah, we were bad last year. We're having fun and we're hungry and, you know, keep proving ourselves right. So it'll be a good watch. This is Old Kentucky Chocolates.
Starting point is 00:39:36 They're one of our sponsors. They have chocolate-covered grapes and strawberries. It is Valentine's Day. Would you like a chocolate-covered grape, or is that not an Australian thing? I've never heard of chocolate covered. Well, then I think you need to try it, right? Don't you think you could? That won't break her diet, will it, Cammy?
Starting point is 00:39:53 Yeah, I'm tracking my calories. It's okay. I'll try it for dessert. She doesn't want a chocolate-covered grape. They don't have these in Australia? No. You guys cover everything in chocolate and caramel and freeze-dry. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:06 But under it is a fruit. True. Under it is nutrition. That's like your salads. Like, I'm going to go get a salad. It's going to have a lettuce base, but I'm going to put bacon, ham, two boiled eggs. Like, that is not a salad. That's a deconstructed burger.
Starting point is 00:40:23 So you think we could use some help with the health? I'm not sure if it's the help with the health. I think it's just a reality check of the language. Don't call it a salad. What would you call it then? A deconstructed burger. A bowl. I like that.
Starting point is 00:40:37 I'm eating healthy. I want a deconstructed burger. I just want the burger without the bun. Yes. Well, I guess that is what it is. Georgia, I'll be at the game tomorrow night, looking forward to it. We'll probably talk to you again before March. This is a heck of a run.
Starting point is 00:40:53 Go out there and kick some tail. Appreciate it, guys. Thank you very much. Every year round of applause, Georgia, Amor, our favorite player coming in. We'll take a break. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Listen to Help from Hypocrite as part of the Mike Pulturra podcast network available on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Final segment.
Starting point is 00:44:40 Great stuff from Georgia there. She's men or women, probably one of the best I've seen at, uh, doing interviews while they're in school. I was trying to think, you know, we've had a lot of people that are really good when they get out of school. But if you're talking about during school, you know, Max was really good, but like her, he was older. I think who else?
Starting point is 00:45:01 DeMarcus was always really good. Ennis Cantor was pretty good. But who else do you think is on her level of being able to, they're not many, is it? I told you when that ended. I can't remember a better interview than Georgia. Even yesterday on Sports Center when they. show to O'Way and Williams, and they were fine, but you could tell they were nervous to be on SportsCenter.
Starting point is 00:45:20 They go to her, and it's like she's on sports center every day. She was just a natural cut it up with Matt Berry, who is apparently not funny. Yeah, I mean, I'm not trying to crush Matt Berry. I'm just saying I got introduced to me as you're doing this show and he's a comedian, and like he was doing jokes. And like I had to do the, you know, you got to laugh. Courtesy laugh. Like there's a courtesy laugh you have to do, and that's a little hard to do sometimes.
Starting point is 00:45:44 But he's a nice guy. He's a nice guy. Well, she's the best player on campus. I mean, she is a dynamite. She is, no doubt. She is the best player on campus right now. It's already February, but we have a ways to go for winter. But Cornbread Hemp can help you buy two, get one free for Valentine's Day at Cormbread Hemp.
Starting point is 00:46:02 I went to their facility a couple of days ago and watched how they make it. It was fascinating. We're going to be doing a remote there in a few weeks. It's an absolutely great place. Cornbreadhemp.com. But for the buy-to, get one free, use my promo code. Sweet deal to get you ready to rest, relax. After a big win last night, I had to take the cornbread hemp gummies, full spectrum, flower-only hemp
Starting point is 00:46:24 to kind of brought me down because I was so high from the game, it brought me down to a regular level. Cornbreadthemp.com promo code sweet deal, buy two, get one free. Any, like I understand, like anything they have. Do you buy two, you get anything for free? So before we go, I did have lunch with Jeff Goodman yesterday. How'd that go? It went great. A couple things about Jeff.
Starting point is 00:46:48 First of all, if you're Jeff, you need to learn to not talk quite as loud. He was talking about a lot of, like, really interesting behind-the-scenes stuff, but he has no volume control. So we're sitting in this restaurant, and he's just like, and then John Caliperi said, and I'm like, whoa, man, like, there's a lot of people around us. You know, you might want to just bring the volume down just a little bit. And then the other thing, while we were sitting there talking, his phone rang twice.
Starting point is 00:47:20 And I would say two of the 10 highest profile coaches in college basketball, he took the call while we were sitting there. He'd show me and he'd go, I got to get this. And I was like, okay, I understand. And it was all I could do not to grab the phone and be like, hey. Yes. What's up? It's Matt. How are you doing?
Starting point is 00:47:42 You doing good? Like, it was very, I wanted to, like, it was crazy, you know. I mean, he actually does talk to kind of those big names. Yeah, it's crazy. Hell froze over yesterday with you of meeting up with Goodman for lunch. I saw him, I got a selfie with Jeff Goodman at Rupp Arena when they were doing the field of 68 last night. Oh, really? Okay.
Starting point is 00:48:00 He's back in BB. I met him at this Starbucks right over here, and he wanted to go eat across the street at, is it like, DV8 kitchen? Yes, DV8. But I was parked at Starbucks, and it's not easy to, like, get out and get over there. So we just walked across Broadway, and he and I both got hit, almost got hit by a car. And I was thinking that'd be a great news stories. Matt Jones and Jeff Goodman run over by a car on Broadway trying to run across the street.
Starting point is 00:48:27 What kind of crazy world are we living in five years ago if you told me that you would have lunch with Jeff and then have Rick Patino on KSR and everything would go well? Bygones, be bygones, right? Like what's the point of holding a grudge? You should learn that lesson. I have learned it. You're the worst person I know about holding grudges. So, like, you've got to, might as well just move forward.
Starting point is 00:48:49 What do you think? You think you can do that? I think I can do that. I don't even know Jeff. But, yeah, he and I go away. It's not about Jeff. You have the people that you don't like. It's easy for you to forgive people that I had beef with.
Starting point is 00:49:01 The question is, can you forgive the people that you have beef with? Do you think a lot of... Now, you don't know, you didn't answer the question. Oh, I definitely, I'm still friendly to a lot of people that I don't really... But you secretly don't like them. Yeah. Why don't you secretly try to like them? I do secretly try.
Starting point is 00:49:18 But you secretly fail? I just don't want to really have anything to do with them. Well, that's not exactly getting over your beef. That's what I'm saying. Who's up next? Let's go to Chris. Chris, go ahead, Chris. Yes.
Starting point is 00:49:35 I'd like to go back to like the ship culture conversation. I've got a phrase to share if you'll allow that. Okay. Have you ever heard the phrase cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey? No, but I don't think that's quite as common as some of the words that I was using. Well, yeah, and it's, yeah, and it is a common phrase. Is it? It's not what you would think its meaning is, though.
Starting point is 00:50:06 Okay, what's its meaning? The meaning is, so back in the day on the ships, they would store cannon balls in a pyramid. I don't know if you've ever seen that on a platform called a brass monkey. So when it would get extremely cold, it would freeze, and the brass would shrink and the balls would fall off. So it would be cold enough to freeze the balls off of brass monkey. Well, first of all, that's interesting. I've never heard that phrase. I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:50:36 And have you all heard that phrase? I've heard it not often. Yeah, I've heard it. Didn't really know what. Shannon, did you heard of it? I have never heard of that until 30 seconds ago. I think he made that phrase up. I think he did.
Starting point is 00:50:48 I think he just wanted to, like, feel as part of it, and then they said they had heard it. I heard it. I didn't know where it came from. While we're talking about phrases, will you please undo the send Drew Travis Perry nicknames? Yeah, so. It's not going well. Travis one. I love you all, but I don't need anymore.
Starting point is 00:51:04 Drew needs more nicknames. No, I do not. At Drew Franklin, KSR, any nickname you have for Travis Perry. He would like you to send them actually throughout the evening if you would. so that he can get them all night long. Remember that time? I think you told people to send me their belly button on Snapchat, and I had like hundreds of snapschats of just random belly buttons.
Starting point is 00:51:22 This is reaching that level of Leave Me Alone. It's a matter of fact, if you'd like to send your belly button, though, to Drew, I'll set myself up for that. I think he also, in addition to Travis, actually, I walked right into that. Put your Travis Perry nickname on your belly button. Oh, God. And then send it.
Starting point is 00:51:41 And then send it to. True. I think he would really like that, right. What about Eddieville Munster? I mean, you can't call him that, but it's pretty good. The Lake Show? I like the Lake Show. I kind of like Eddieville Munster. I'm not going to agree. Even though it's probably not the nicest. Hey, thank you all very much for coming out here today. We appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:52:03 It's Dollar Wings all day and night. We'll be back here tomorrow. Then Friday, we're with the Kentucky State Police. So it's not an open show. It'll just be us and the armed, not the armed forces, the police forces on Friday. No crowd. No crowd. Thank you all very much.
Starting point is 00:52:21 We'll see you tomorrow. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
