We've got some folks here this morning watching.
You can give us a shout on the Clark's Pump and Shop phone line.
By this point, you know what it is.
859-280-20287.
A-Vision Autoglass Text Machine, 772-745254.
And this edition is sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office.
You call T.J. I'll make them pay.
Remember, we're still looking all day and night for you to text Drew, nicknames for Travis Perry.
Okay.
And pictures of your belly button if you want.
So we got that going on.
And, yeah, tomorrow is Valentine's Day.
Do you guys have big plans for your various ladies or different ones for each one?
I may or may not have already made it Valentine delivery this morning before the show this morning.
What was it?
Well, she doesn't teach on Fridays, Valentine Day tomorrow, so I took her some roses dropped off at her school this morning.
I thought she was a yoga teacher.
Well, she teaches yoga and art for preschool students at a school.
Oh, I've always assumed she taught yoga for adults.
She teaches preschool yoga?
Yeah.
Preschool kids can do yoga?
They do.
Two through five.
Do they need to be that flexible at that age?
Well, not that flexible is just, you know, the movement just kind of keeps them behavioral, keeps them calm.
So she teaches preschool yoga.
Yeah.
If she ever needs a substitute teacher, I'm sure Matt would be great for that.
Yeah, I would be terrible at it.
I do yoga, but not the – well, that was interesting.
So was she happy when she got a rose?
She was.
Yeah, I got some good texts, and then we're going to Rodney's tomorrow and I for dinner.
I'm going to guess that, Rodney's.
That was minus 800 on draft.
Last of the big spenders, because I'm sure you have a gift card, and it will be free.
So, all right, well, that's nice.
What about you, Drew?
I'm pretty prepared.
I've already got a gift ready.
Got a dinner reservation for tomorrow.
Rodney's?
No, I'm going to do a little Jeff Rubies.
I probably need to find a card at some point.
Yeah, I'm pretty set.
Looking forward to it.
It's nice that it's on a Friday.
How about you?
See, I think I may go to Texas to go to the game.
So I may be flying tomorrow.
Yeah, Kentucky plays there Saturday.
They play there Saturday night.
Did you know that?
That's where the University of Texas is.
Going back to Austin.
For Valentine's Day.
You've got to stop that.
I haven't been there in like a year.
You're going to have to stop all your nonsense.
You've rekindled an old flame.
There is no reason.
That's where Kentucky plays.
They play Saturday night in Austin.
It's the first time.
I think it's the first time they've played Texas there in my life.
They played that regional there one time, the one where Patrick Sparks,
the ball bounced around the rim.
That was in Austin.
I was down there.
I was there for that game.
But I don't, I can't think of in my lifetime them playing at Texas.
Do you?
No basketball, no football, of course, was just down there for basketball.
I don't know of any other games.
We've played them twice ever.
Once was just fairly recently in the SEC Big 12 and then played them in Maui.
I think we were supposed to play them in Austin the COVID year and it got canceled.
I think that was our big 12 game that year was at Texas,
and I believe it got canceled due to COVID.
It makes sense.
It probably had a home-and-home that came here.
They just canceled the one that was there.
We'll have fun down in Austin.
Well, hopefully we win.
That'll make it a lot more fun.
But, yeah, otherwise, you know, it's one of those.
It's a Friday night.
So I think for people, you know, it's like the restaurants,
probably all the nice restaurants that were going to be hard to get into, right?
It's what you've got to get on early.
Like right after New Year's Eve, boom, you got to get on those Valentine's Day reservations.
See, who thinks about that?
I'm a big reservation guy.
I already have New Year's Eve reservations.
For next year?
Yeah.
That's pretty impressive.
Well, I got tired of not having them, so I just get out in front of it.
See, I'm the day up.
And if it's not there, then it wasn't meant to be.
That can be tough.
Locally, after Thanksgiving, you better get on the New Year's reservations right then as soon as they open up.
How do you all like going out so much to, like, restaurants?
I mean, I eat it out, I guess.
What are you cooking?
Yeah, I mean, I guess I'm just saying you all like having like event restaurants.
Yeah, we'd make the day special or the moment special for your significant other.
Okay.
Well, let me tell you the other thing.
So I did two things last night that I think are very important.
By the way, we're going to make this an Ask Anything Thursday just because, again, we're kind of in between games.
And we didn't get to take a lot of questions last time because of a lot of stuff going on.
So we'll make it an Ask Anything Thursday, 859-2-80-22-87.
You can ask whatever we want.
Old UK questions.
KSR questions or, you know, some good news, potentially coming, like, starting here
some good vibes about this Nate Amen guy that was here Tuesday.
So we can talk about any of those.
But before we do, two things.
One, last night I watched the best college basketball game I've seen in a long time.
And I wouldn't have cared.
It was Texas Tech and Arizona State.
Really?
Double overtime madness.
Yeah.
Absolute madness.
I'm sure none of you all watched it.
you all have families and things to do.
But like, last 12 seconds of the game, tie game, guy gets a steal, runs, looks like he
has a wide open layup.
Dude comes out of nowhere, blocks it.
Everybody falls down.
You know, there's screaming.
A murder took place.
Like it was, they go into double overtime.
The crowd in Lubbock is crazy.
One of the best games I've seen.
I'm not sure if anybody was watching it but me because it was on the CBS Sports Network.
But that was exciting.
I wish I would have seen it.
I watched Patino lose.
then I watched Cala Perry win back to back.
I didn't even know this game was going on.
And then the second thing is I'm getting way too in to like ship culture.
No, I'm serious.
So I'm reading this book, The Wager.
It's about this shipwreck, you know, in the 1700s.
And it's a great book.
And it's a true story.
Yeah.
You know, people who like nonfiction, like you got to read this book.
It's called The Wager.
It came out last year.
It got a lot of awards.
Like, I'm not the first person to discover.
But it's about this ship, and we talked about all the phrases that came from.
I found another one.
Okay.
The phrase under the weather.
Yes.
When people would get typhus, that's a thing, right?
Like typhoid?
Typhoid fever.
Yeah.
They would get sick, and the weather would hurt them so they'd go under the boat so that they could be under the weather to try to recover.
That's where that came from.
That's where that came from.
I'll be dang.
But, okay, so they were trying to sail from England.
down, so Panama Canal is not there yet, right?
Yeah.
So they're trying to go under South America to get to the, like, Asia, right?
But apparently, and see, I didn't know this,
the area under South America, that's Cape Horn, I believe is the name of it,
is the most deadly seas in the world.
Do you want to know why?
Tell me why.
See, maybe you won't care about this as much as I did, but I care.
If you think about the globe, there's land that blocks water,
everywhere, right?
But if you think about the southernmost part of the globe, it's the only part of the globe
where there's no land to break the ocean and slow it down.
So the ocean picks up speed because there's no land.
Like Europe's not there, etc.
So apparently you get down close to Antarctica, the water's then the way South America
goes and Antarctica comes up, it creates like a narrow path.
Like think of like when you're on a river, how it kind of.
Yeah.
So then it like narrows in, which makes it go even faster.
And then for reasons I don't understand, like the most harsh weather in the world is down there anyway because of winds.
So all these things happen to where when you try to go under South America, it's the deadliest water.
Even today.
Like ships are very scared to go there.
I can see why.
Cruise ships have to do it a certain way.
They can only go some seasons and stuff like that.
So I'm reading about all this.
And the guy's such a good writer.
I feel like I'm on the ship, right?
Like climbing up the mast or whatever to do the sails.
And then like disease breaks out.
And then there's like they fight each other.
And I just, it's a great book.
And I realized I would have been terrible at it.
Like everything, did you ever see Master and Commander that movie with Russell Crow?
That's kind of what this is.
I'm now basically a shipment.
Is that why people use the now America Canal so much?
to cut through where they don't have to go down to the bottom.
No, that's why the Panama Canal was built,
was to get ships from one side of the other
without making them go all the way under South America
because, A, it's farther, but B, it's dangerous.
I mean, they say over the years,
hundreds of ships crashed down there.
It's Cape Horn.
It's got some nickname like the River of Death or something like that.
Well, now I feel like I'm invested.
Do they make it through the troubled waters?
Well, I mean, if it was a safe,
easy journey, I think the book would not have been written.
Like, if it was just a normal, like they just say, and I think they would have gone,
that's not a very good book if they were just saying.
And then we sailed and then we got there.
So I'm going to assume there was danger.
I haven't finished the book yet.
Oh, okay, gotcha.
I know why you like it, because when we went out on a boat, you took a book with you
and read on the boat.
So it's like combining your two worlds.
That's right.
Apparently 60 minutes went down there and rode the water last year, like Anderson Cooper.
And I haven't seen it yet.
I'm going to wait for the books finished and showed how crazy it.
I don't know if I'd wanted to even do that.
How about Anderson Cooper?
Like, he's probably, he doesn't need to be doing that, you know?
He's a pioneer.
So do I give you, does this give you any incentive to want to read it?
A little bit.
So you're not going to read it.
Okay.
Drew, do you have any incentive?
Of course.
Well, I just bought tomorrow, tomorrow, and tomorrow, it gets here today.
That's fiction, though.
I know, but, I mean, I've already taken one book recommendation this week.
I just, I can't get two behind.
But, yeah, I'll add in some of my list.
To your point, my sister actually got stuck at the bottom tip of South America because of the weather.
They had a plane down there, and the wind was,
bad it shattered the windshield
and they were down there for a long time. She wasn't on the
water, but to your winds is the point of the bad
weather, she was down there for a while. If you read this
book, you would think it's
like, Herman Melville,
you know, do you know who Herman Melville is? He wrote
Moby Dick. Yeah. He called
it hell on earth.
That little stretch of water. Yes.
So, do they call it the wager? Because they're
kind of gambling? No, that was the name of the ship.
The name of the ship was the wager. I think
that's where they got it. So anyway,
if you hear me like
start going,
our matey.
It's because I'm become a shipment.
859-280-2287.
Kentucky basketball,
we're still sort of happy about the win.
Mark Pope, I was thinking about this yesterday.
I did that segment where we talked about
why the fans had embraced Mark Pope so much.
Now that we have our team,
and you go look back when Pope got here
and how he built that roster in a month,
What would you grade the way he built the roster that we have,
considering the time he had, etc?
You've got to give the guy an A.
Maybe not an A-plus, but I would give him definitely a solid A
for pulling that pieces together.
Like he brought him to fit his system,
and the guys that were available,
he went and found, which appears to be like,
maybe the perfect guys to fit his system how he wants to play.
What about you, Drew?
Yeah, it's hard to not give him an A.
You've got to think he didn't have many relationships.
relationships established. He played against some of these guys and knew them.
But normally in recruiting, you spend a year or two trying to build this up.
He got the Kentucky job just started calling him up.
And he had like five and five days in a stretch.
He got them real quick.
He grew it together on the fly.
Who was the first, now in hindsight, I'm trying to remember.
Who were the first people to commit?
I thought it was really cool.
Travis Perry, when he called him out at his press conference, that set the tone early about bringing Kentucky kids.
But what about the transfers?
Was Amari the first one?
And the Mont Butler was pretty quick.
behind him showing the importance for defense.
Who's the one he flew to the Nashville airport and drove him here?
Was that Andrew Carr?
Andrew Carr.
Yeah.
And let's think about just looking back who he didn't get.
He didn't get Chas Lanier.
It'd be nice to have him for depth, but I don't think, like, I mean, if I told you,
it was probably going to be Chas Lanier or Jackson Robinson.
It'd been pretty close, wouldn't you say?
I'd have to take Robinson.
Yeah.
And then he didn't get Great Osabor, but Great Osibor, but Great Osibor,
I've watched him a couple times.
I don't know how great.
I think Amari probably has been as good, if not better,
than great, than great Osabor.
There's one I watched last night.
Ryan, you watched the Villanova St. John's game,
that Wuga Poplar was high on Kentucky's list.
They went kind of down to the wire.
He ended up at Villanova.
He had a great game last night.
They tried to get the kid,
two kids that went to Yukon,
Liam McNeely out of high school.
You know, that was a high school.
player and he's he's really good but it's interesting the kid from st mary's that we wanted so much
mahony i watched yucon play a couple nights he doesn't play he doesn't even get in so like we were
we were all in on him and he doesn't even get in the game so it's interesting how like in the
moment of these recruitments on transfers you get so into wanting a guy and i remember people tell me
that's the one we have to get and he doesn't even play for you come you know i i've said this we may
look back in history that Mark Pope's best recruiting class, maybe this first one he just did
was able to do it, the way he was able to do it.
Got him a top 10 team.
That may be the most important recruiting class.
Well, Mont Butler was huge.
You know, Kobe Bray had picked us over Duke and Yukon.
I mean, he could have gone anywhere, and he ends up picking here.
Otega O'A, I remember when he committed, like, no one said anything.
We didn't know anything about the guy, and he's our leading score.
Yeah, and I liked a lot of stuff was Pope.
he had played against him.
Brandon Garrison's career high before playing Tennessee the other night was against Pope and
BYU.
Oh, I didn't know that.
He had been recruiting Kirkreisa year after year.
Lamont Butler, he saw all the time.
So a lot of it was he got his butt-willed by some of these guys.
He went and called him.
It would be interesting to see this year because he'll probably go get four or five guys
in the portal this year how he decides to get.
It'll be interesting.
Do we just go get the guys we played?
Like, can we go get that guy from Clemson?
I feel like that dude killed us.
Josh Hubbard, Mississippi State.
Come on over.
Oh, dude, I love Josh Hubbard.
I mean, he's been, he's destroyed us every time.
859-28027.
Is Ask Anything Thursday, you got a Commodore, Matt Jones.
That's the leader of the entire group.
On the ship?
Captain Ryan Lemon and Navy midshipman.
Thank you.
Drew Franklin.
We'll take a break.
We'll be right back.
It's KSR.

that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross.
Because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth.
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different.
levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person.

Hey, I'm Jared Adano.
You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the.
the internet.
Who?
Somebody!
Please!
But there's so much more to me than that.
I'm an actor.
I'm a comedian.
And recently, I've become quite the helper myself.
And on my new podcast, hope from a hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people
in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions.
Sike!
I'm a comedian.
I'm not qualified to give good advice.

Hey, cream, cream a chicken suit.
This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know.

This is Gordon Lightfoot, right?
The wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
The Wreck of the Edmonds Fitzgerald.
This is his only song I know besides Sundown.
This is a true story also.
Is it?
Yeah.
The wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
It's a true story.
Oh, well, how about that?
That's good to know.
By the way, you made a good point during the break to me.
YouTube TV.
I don't know how many of you have YouTube TV.
I have it.
You have it?
Oh, I love it.
And you have it, right?
Yes.
CBS is off the air start tomorrow.
They're like in contract negotiations.
So, you know, I'm okay with that now.
whatever, but if by March they don't have it, that's the end to me.
Oh, my.
Got to work something out before then.
Yeah, got to get it worked out.
Because that game last night was on the CBS Sportsnet.
I don't care YouTube TV, get it fixed.
I don't watch much cable TV at all, but CBS is my channel.
It's a YMT, isn't that CBS?
I watch that news.
OVWs on CBS.
My Jane Polly on Sunday mornings.
How am I going to hear the trumpets?
You're the only reason I know Jane Polly is still alive,
is you.
All right,
so I'm asking anything questions.
You ready?
Every time I say we're going to do this,
this one guy asked the exact same question.
So we'll just go for it.
Can you ask Ryan what happened with Mickey DeBoss at Kentucky?
Now, remember, be careful.
We've all heard stories.
I want you to say it in a way that will not get a suit.
Let's just say.
You personally.
I absolve all responsibility.
I don't even know the story.
Yeah.
I'll just say there's a less.
Allegedly.
No, I'll be careful.
Allegedly.
She may have done some things that were not in accordance with what the U.K.
women's head coach should be doing.
Well, that's very vague.
That's about as far as I'm going to go.
Yeah.
I'll put it like this.
I used to live over at Grand Reserve off Tates Creek and Man o' War.
Yeah.
Good pool over there.
It is.
There was a Ramsey's in that shopping center.
That was for many years when Kentucky women won a big game.
The party was at Rams.
Okay.
I don't know why they went there, but they did.
And it was quite a scene.
It's a different time in the UK women's basketball era, I'll just say.
Just a different time.
Different time.
Okay.
And I think the ultimate, I don't think Mickey DeMoss did anything like bad.
but maybe some stuff happened in those situations that led to dismissals.
And then there may be friendships, you know.
But that's all I'm going to say.
Yeah. I feel like that's enough.
It is one of those legends that people always wonder about.
And it's like with Billy Gillespie, like you don't know what's real and what's not,
And that's what makes it hard.
But she won here.
I mean, she was a good coach here.
Yeah, she turned our program around and got them where they were competitive.
But, you know, she went and said she was tired of coaching.
You want to step away from coaching.
What does she do now?
Well, I think she's probably still in coaching.
She went right back to coaching like a year later.
Okay.
After she said she wanted to step away and tired of coaching.
Yeah.
Well, I mean, she did a great job here.
And I actually never heard that she was anything but a good person.
I think she was really well-liked by everybody at UK.
Yeah.
One person writes, Matt, is this?
the expression where around the horn comes from. Correct. It is. That's how you go around the horn.
You're going around Cape Horn. See, I don't think we realized how much stuff we say comes from these things.
You've already given us like seven or eight just from what you go to this book. Our whole vocabulary, and that's just from this one one book.
Trent Noah, Jacob Polichick at KSR Plus did a story that Trent Noah's Harlan County High School has not moved.
anything from his locker.
It is still the way he left it.
And if you go on KSR Plus, you can see the picture.
He has two shoes, which look to be mismatched.
One shoe from two different pairs.
He's got like his jersey, some T-shirts.
It's like messy.
And Harlan High School, County, has decided to leave it the way he left it
as a tribute to what he did for the program.
I think that's actually amazingly cool,
and the picture to me is iconic.
Yeah, it's really cool.
It's got some shoes, a little ankle brace, some wotted up shirts.
I love that they did it,
but I'm wondering if they're hitting that with some febrees every so often
because I wonder how that will smell.
It looks dirty.
Yeah, I mean, it looks like he just got a workout in,
took off his wet t-shirt and threw it down,
but the gesture's awesome, very neat.
I hope it's there forever.
It's a great story from Jacob.
And by the way, this gives me a good chance.
to say. It's on KSR Plus.
Every time we put one of those stories, people
will go, oh, Matt, how's it?
First of all, I don't run that anymore. It's not my
decision. But to take up for them,
the economics of the
internet have changed substantially
in the last three years. Like when I ran the internet,
well, I didn't run the internet, but when I ran
Kentucky Sports Radio, you could put up
free stories, and Google
ads paid
a lot, and you could keep a website
going free.
Completely has changed. Thanks
to AI and different things, those Google ads don't pay what they once did, which is why you're
seeing these major news sources all go to subscriptions.
So I've been committed to keeping and pushing on three to keep most of KSR free, and it still is.
But if you're wondering why those articles exist, you know, don't blame me.
Blame the economy because it's changed.
That's why you see free sites all going away.
But think about how many blogs existed 15 years ago.
You can't make the money anymore, which is why.
But we still keep 90 plus percent of our stuff free, but that's why that article's up there.
I want to go back to the trench locker.
I love this.
I love this story so much.
And you can probably understand what I'm about to say.
You know, a lot of these kids who grow up in Harlan, man, it's a tough life.
You know, they don't have a lot of revenue in a way to kind of pull themselves out of this life.
And there's a guy right there.
They walk the hallway with.
They sat in a classroom with that has done it.
It means a lot to not just that community, but those kids that go to that school and see his locker every day.
I genuinely believe that there is no county in the, in, certainly in Kentucky, maybe in the United States, but I don't know the whole United States, but there is no county in Kentucky that has changed more than Harlan County in the last 50 years.
50 years ago, Harlan County was an economic monster due to coal.
Lynch, where Freddie comes from, Harlan, Cumberland.
There was a time like in 1920 where as many people lived in Harlan as they did in Lexington.
And then the town has, the county has had to go through so many struggles.
No place in America has seen the loss of coal hurt it more than Harlem.
And to have that kid come from there, I just think it is so not, it's just such a great story for this state.
Because if you've never been to Harlan, we go there with the Polk Salad Festival.
It's wonderful people, but have had a very difficult time.
You know that scene in Netflix in the wrestler show is during.
that and they tell that story. For that kid to come from that county and have success,
I just can't think of anything more Kentucky basketball than that. I really can't,
and that's what I love. We'll take a break. Take your questions right for this.
KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back. Techie Sports Radio. 859-2-80-2287. Couple things. UK baseball season starts
tomorrow gets David Lipscomb.
David Lipscomb.
Yeah.
Kentucky's picked 15th out of 16 teams in the SEC.
No respect.
With the 2-season in the World Series last year,
picked 15th out of 16th.
I think it's about what they were predicted last year.
Look what happened.
They had the great year.
I will say this, though.
I maybe saw Nick Mingeoan back in October, November.
I think I saw him at Chapo-Lay.
Said, hey, man, had an awesome time falling.
You missed.
Sorry, I was in Europe during the World Series.
Hey, did I miss it?
Looking forward to it.
We're going to go back again this year, right?
He goes,
a little bit of a rebuilding year.
So I think maybe
going to be drew a little bit of a rebuilding.
That's all right.
Maybe they'll surprise us again.
I had to, unfortunately, completely overhaul the roster,
but I'm looking forward to it.
Their opening day over here is Tuesday.
I'll be at that one.
Who they play Tuesday?
Morehead?
Okay, good.
Might be going with a little Freddie Maggard.
Freddy bought season.
Yeah, big baseball guy.
They've only got two guys back, two regular back.
Well, I mean, they basically loaded up for a huge run last year,
and I think they're kind of like in year one of two trying to do that again,
so we'll see what happens.
I also wanted to read you, can I give you Alabama's basketball schedule for the rest of the year?
To give you a sense of the SEC.
Here's Alabama's schedule for the rest of the year.
Auburn ranked one.
At Missouri, ranked 21.
Kentucky, 15.
Mississippi State, 22.
at Tennessee, five, Florida, three, at Auburn, one.
My goodness.
They play seven straight games to finish the season, all of which are against ranked teams.
Wow, that's amazing.
I didn't realize that.
Alabama, a team we all think is one of the best teams in the country.
That's a hell of a gauntlet for any team to go through.
Seven ranked teams in seven games.
That's got to be, if that's not a record, I'd like to know what is.
I mean, they could go four and three and be proud of that.
They could be really good and go four and three in those games.
All right, who's up first?
We'll start with Adam.
Adam, go ahead, Adam.
Hey guys, got a scenario for you on Ask Anything.
So the scenario is each of you has a million dollars with the stipulation.
You have to bet it today.
Kentucky is fully healthy minus Creesa.
Where does the season end in the NCAA tournament?
Million dollar bet.
We're going to take a fully healthy Kentucky team minus Creasa.
Where do we say they go?
I appreciate the call.
If I had to do that and let's say I had to get the round of the NCAA tournament
it right. Not what I hope happens, but what actually would happen with a million dollars on the line.
I'd have to see the odds, but I would say Sweet 16. If that was the bet I was going to make,
Sweet 16 with a fully healthy roster, that's where I would go. What about you?
Yeah, I'm saying, I don't know if they win the Sweet 16, but to get to that game.
Well, that's what I mean. That's where we would lose.
Yeah, I think that's the smart money.
that's where I would go also.
I think if you tell me either Robinson or Butler is banged up,
and I'm going in like a little, not 100%, then I might go round two.
But I think if you tell me they're all healthy minus Creasa, I'm going to go Sweet 16.
Yeah, I want to be different just for the conversation, but that's what I was thinking too.
Right now they're a three seed.
You'd run into a good team in the Sweet 16.
You know, the Kentucky fan of me is like, heck, yeah, let's win that one.
But if I have a million on the line, that's a different conversation.
So I'm going to say Sweet 16 also.
I also think it's going to be interesting with the SEC tournament.
I was looking at the standings.
I think there's a very good chance that unless something crazy happens,
we're either going to be the seven, the eight,
if things didn't go well, the nine or the ten,
we're going to end up having to play Auburn or Alabama
in the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament.
Could be either one of them,
depending on how their games against each other go.
So that Friday at the SEC tournament,
which, by the way, the game will either be at one or seven.
That's going to be a game for Kentucky.
I mean, it's going to be all of our crowd.
I mean, that's like a national championship level game in the quarter finals of the SEC tournament.
You either will see probably Auburn or Alabama against maybe Kentucky.
Going into the season, my head in my head, I want to see him get to the weekend of the SEC tournament.
Now we see how tough the SEC is.
I kind of got to tweak that a little bit.
I think if we beat in Arkansas, we could get up to like a six or a five,
at which point then we could avoid those teams until the semifinal.
If you just look at the standings, I think that's going to be hard to do unless we go on a huge run here at the end.
Yeah, I was talking with a friend last night.
We just got to change our brains about the SEC tournament.
We were so spoiled.
We had that noon game on Friday for many years.
But now Wednesday could have like three tournament teams in it.
It's just a different beast.
It's a very different beast, yes.
You guys already gone?
You just got here.
Well, you can't talk to me.
I'm on the air.
How could you talk to me if I was on the air?
All right.
Good to see you.
Call in right now, yeah.
How did they think they were going to talk to me if I was on the air?
What did that one dude do that just walked in and went in that corner over there?
Did he just go over there and just pee?
I don't know what he did.
He just walked in the farthest corner of the restaurant and then turned right back around and left.
It's really no reason to go over there.
What's going on?
How did he think we were all going to talk?
He knows we're on the air.
Anyone who would want to come see me here would know we were on the air.
Because we don't have Mario here to play security.
All right.
Who's up next?
Tyler.
Tyler.
go ahead Tyler.
Hey, what's going on, Matt?
First time, long time.
Who are?
What's up?
I was actually going to touch on that Texas Tech, Arizona State game.
I actually stayed up last night as well and finished that.
I was kind of curious, do you think maybe that Pope would be interested in that topping kid?
Well, he should be.
J.T. Topping is great.
I think they looked at him last year.
I don't know how far.
Is that Jacobs?
No, I don't think there's a.
connection. I don't think Jay, he had 40 last night and he's a junior, I think. So he's got like
another year. That would be my, and again, I don't watch all the teams, but my can we go steal him
would be J.T. Topping. Now, the thing is, Texas Tech has some alum that's spending a ton of money on
football and basketball. So they're able to kind of punch above their weight getting players,
but I watch that kid. I appreciate the call. He's my random team star. He had 40 last night,
J.T. Topping.
Knowing what we know the roster's probably going to look like, what do they need to get?
Okay, so that's a great question.
Let's look at the roster next year.
Let's assume we get O.A. and Garrison back.
I hope we get Kerr back.
We'll see.
But let's assume O.A. and Garrison come back.
Let's assume we have Noah Perry back.
Chandler?
Probably Chandler, yes.
Then we got the four freshmen, so now we're at nine.
I think you've got to go get three or four guys.
One of things you have to do is I think you have to get a point guard.
we're going to have Jasper Johnson, but you need another option.
Would you agree with that?
Yes.
We can't just trust the freshman.
We're going to have to go get a big of some sort.
And then I think this is the thing this team needs the most next year,
a big-time wing score.
We've got to go get a Jackson-Robinson.
I think those are the three things, if I'm Pope,
assuming the roster that we're talking about, well, I'll be here.
Now, some of these guys could leave, you never know.
But assuming the roster we have now,
I think you need a point guard, a big-time wing score,
and a big man of some sort.
Yeah, I have mentioned this the day you're out,
but Danny Wolf at Michigan, the center, he's perfect for Pope.
I'm a little worried, though, the new draft boards have him up.
He's first round now.
I don't know that he'll be available, but he was high on my wish list earlier in the season
because he just looks like a guy that would fit right in with the Pope's system.
He's seven foot, can hit threes, can pass.
He's high at my wish.
If Kirk Creasa comes back, Kirk Creasa might be that point guard, right?
because Jasper Johnson's going to play point guard.
And I just think you need another option there to give you some grace
in case his learning curve is a little bit.
With Pope's a little bit of lack of defense,
I hope they find more of a butler type that can guard on the perimeter.
Oh, way back is huge if you get.
But you need a shooter, right?
Like you need the Kobe Braille.
You need to go find somebody that's like that.
And the reality is, I mean, he's going to have to look at like Colin Chandler
and say, do I think this guy can become a player, right?
He does, I believe, believe that, but he needs to next year
because Eric's going to need him, I think.
I think Travis and Trent will fill in role players again, but
I think they'll step up.
I mean, maybe Trent Noah is Kobe Bray.
I mean, maybe that's who it ends up being.
Yeah, I think they're counting on a big jump from him.
Also, I just wonder, you know, we've heard former Kentucky players talk about how jealous
they are at Pope's system.
I wonder what all these other kids in college that have eligibility left,
if they're looking at Kentucky, like, wow, that looks like a lot of fun,
and maybe it will be what a destination
a lot of people want to go to.
I've said this year, I thought we needed one star.
I still look at next year and be like,
we need one college star.
Hopefully Jasper, Malachi, you know,
Caden Lewis become,
but we need one college star.
Do you agree with that?
Yeah, a transfer.
Chas Lanier, Kai, Jackson Robinson.
Somebody that can go get us 20 on a night when we need to.

It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live.
Text machine 772-745-254.
One person writes, Matt,
can you tell me what the schedule will be like
at the SEC tournament for KSR?
Well, it'll depend on what the schedule is for UK.
It looks almost certain that UK will play on Thursday.
I will make a game-time decision on whether or not
I think we're definitely going to win.
If I don't think we're definitely going to win,
If I think it's close, then we'll do our big show on Thursday and then just do a regular show Friday.
If I think we're going to win, then we'll wait and do it Friday.
Also, if the game's at 1 o'clock, we won't even have a full show because we'll get cut off for the official pregame.
So we'll only have like an hour and a half.
So we kind of have to wait and see what the schedule is.
But chances are we'll probably do our big show on Thursday.
and then on Friday do a smaller show somewhere else.
That's just my initial thinking because I don't want to wait,
do our big show Friday, we lose Thursday,
and then everybody's like, well, why did we come here to stand and look at you
if we're already out of the tournament?
So I guess I got to ask this.
What if they end up playing on Wednesday?
What would we do?
I mean, we could end up playing on Wednesday.
Yeah.
I mean, we're definitely going to play on Thursday.
Like, I mean, unless something crazy happens,
Kentucky fans got to know this
We're playing Thursday
We'd have to come in fourth
And we're not going to pass Auburn and Alabama
And we're probably not going to pass Florida
So really our only chance is to get to fourth
So we're probably playing Thursday
And then, you know, there's a chance we can play Friday
If we drop to our Wednesday
If we drop to 9th, we're playing Wednesday
And that's noon on Wednesday
Yeah, I mean if we're in ninth place
In the 8th, right now we're in 8th
If we finish 9th, we're playing 1 o'clock on Wednesday
which is crazy.
There's never even been a one o'clock game on Wednesday,
and we might be in the first one.
So I guess we'd have to go Tuesday night.
We'll go Tuesday night.
We're also, if people are out there,
we would like to find a place on the way
to do a show,
assuming we don't play Wednesday,
we'll do it Wednesday.
So if you'd like to host us
and just like some random place down there
along the interstate,
we'd do it Wednesday on the way to,
Nashville. Yeah, we did what, five broke sisters that one day off the interstate. We did one in Franklin.
I sure was the football stadium. The football stadium, that's right. Yes, one person writes,
Matt, I've only been listening for a year, so this may be a stupid question. That's what I ask
anything. Sure, there are no stupid questions. Who is Larry that you refer to? I could see how you
might say that. So Larry is my stepdad, but I, you know, I consider him my dad, and he's the most
wonderful person I know, and you all all know him as well.
But I do refer to him as Larry, so like some people might not realize that.
He plays a mean base.
He's 87 years old.
He goes, do do do do on a stand-up base, and no more content, happy person on the planet.
What a great, great man.
We should all aspire to be more like Larry Blondale.
Larry Blondell, think about this.
Don't think he's ever had a drink of alcohol, never smoked a cigarette.
at, I've never heard him use a cuss word in my entire life.
He's a saint.
Think about that for a minute.
How many people you think that applies to?
Not many.
Ron's got all that this morning.
He did it on the drive here.
So I don't think that'll have all.
Also good friends with World Wide West.
Yes, World Wide West and he are big buddies.
One person writes, Matt, I was looking at the NCAA tournament sites.
I would like to hear each of you say what your thought would be if Kentucky got a sign to these towns.
I like this game. I'm excited.
So Lexington has a site.
They do.
And we can't play there.
So that gives us seven possibilities.
Now, because we're not one of the top seeds, we could go to any of these.
We literally could go to any of these.
So give me a quick thought on each of these towns.
Let's start with you, Shannon.
Raleigh, North Carolina.
I think we've been there before, have we not?
We went to Greensboro.
We were in Greensboro.
Raleigh's okay.
I'll be all right with that.
It's unlikely to me we get to Raleigh because I think Duke will be there.
So I'd say Raleigh would be a surprise, but I lived in Raleigh.
I would like that.
What about you?
Raleigh's kind of a cool little town now, especially with the hockey team,
and the Durham Bulls right next door, so it's kind of a cool little town.
And the Carolina Hurricanes play at home the night before the turn,
so I actually would love to do that.
But go ahead.
I was going to be a no.
You just talked me into that.
I want to see some live hockey, so go Raleigh.
Milwaukee, Shannon.
No, we have been there.
Nothing in Milwaukee interest me, so.
I actually really enjoy Milwaukee.
I don't want to go there.
It'd be a little cold, but what do you think about Milwaukee?
Yeah, the weather in March scares me a little bit about a trip to Milwaukee.
Milwaukee might be number one on my list.
I made my first Milwaukee trip a year or two ago and was surprised by how much fun I had.
I've always had fun in Milwaukee every time I've been.
It's beer and cheese.
It is.
Denver.
Shannon, we've been there many times.
You always have quite a run when we go there.
I have a lot of fun in Denver.
Let's run it back.
I think that might be my top choice out of these.
I love Denver.
The problem is we have to drive there and it's a long drive, but that's okay.
I love Denver.
Denver is cool town.
We need to go back to the witch house and we broke the curse.
We broke the curse.
I would happily go to Denver.
I don't care about the drive.
I love Denver.
Got a brother-in-law there.
Always had a good time in Denver.
Closest one.
Cleveland, would you like to spend four days in Cleveland, Shannon?
I've never been to Cleveland.
That would be another top choice of mine.
Cleveland stinks.
The only thing that would be good about Cleveland is that it's close.
But otherwise, it stinks.
You go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and then it's just like go visit.
But we were there when we, I know.
2015 we end up going to the final four after we won in Cleveland.
That's the famous story where you're doing your postgame show and Ashley Judd danced on the table.
Almost knocked the table over and all of our equipment and drinks and everything.
That casino there was good to me.
That casino's fun.
Every night we were there I was winning.
Let's go back to Cleveland.
Wichita Kansas, Shannon.
How about that?
The worst of the worst.
If we go to Wichita, you guys go, I'm staying home.
No, you're going.
You have to.
It's part of the contract.
Wichita.
Yeah, this is the bottom of the eight.
This is number eight on my book.
for sure.
No, even though they told us it's the best Sunday in America or whatever.
What would they say?
We're the best town on Sundays.
Whatever that Uber driver told us.
No thank you on Kansas.
I love things like Wichita.
Like it's random.
We'd have to make our fun.
We'd find a way to do it.
I'm pro-witchat.
Seattle, that's the one we don't want.
No, that's the one we're not driving back out there again, are we?
Picking up the wet sage from the Airbnb.
We won't drive.
Then I'll have to talk eye-hard into flying us out there.
And it's not a short flight, and we've just been there.
So I kind of hope we don't get Seattle, you know.
Dead last for me, no thank you.
That's probably why we're going to end up there because we were just there.
And then finally, Providence, Rhode Island.
I've never been.
Never been.
I don't have strong thoughts one way or another about Providence.
Never been there before.
We'd have fun.
I like the others a lot more, but it's high above Seattle.
I think it would be like one of our trips like Des Moines,
where we don't know anything about the city,
and we end up just kind of having fun because what else is there to do there?
We don't know anything about this place.
I kind of feel like that would be oddly a lot of fun,
just like we had in Des Moines that one year.
So I was looking at it, I was looking at the breakdown.
The one I think is most likely is Denver.
If you're just looking at where we are,
I think Denver is probably the one that's most likely.
Who's up next?
It's good to Bruce.
Bruce, go ahead, Bruce.
Hey, guys, I appreciate you taking my call.
I'm originally from Lessington,
but spent 20 years in the Army,
and have settled in L.A.
That's not Los Angeles.
That's Lower Alabama.
And I greatly appreciate to show it.
It keeps me up with a cats.
Got a couple of things.
I want to just mention.
I love Mountain Mamba for Trent.
But I don't call him Trent.
I call him Trench with a C.H.
Because, man, he is not afraid to get in there and go for them rebounds.
That's true.
I love that.
So I call him Trench, you know.
I like that.
He does get in the trenches and fight.
I saw Kentucky branded.
has a Mountain Mamba t-shirt coming out this weekend.
Smart.
So that was what they needed to do, and they made it happen.
Everybody jumping on board.
The Kentucky basketball official accounts been calling him that.
Tom Leach, it's his name.
No changing it now.
Yeah, I think that's his name.
I hope he enjoys it because that's what it's going to be the entire year.
I still have your Sweet Mountain Angel Baby T-shirt, though, that I'm going to get to you soon.
I'm not calling a grown man, sweet Mountain Angel Bay.
I'm just not going to do it.
It's not acceptable.
It's in my car.
I'll get it during the break.
I mean, I think, you know, people that are his mother's age, they can call him Sweet Mountain Angel Baby.
And really, they have to be women.
