Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-28027 here at the KSports. Bar and Grill. We are now open for lunch. Tonight, Kentucky Women play Texas here at Historic Memorial Coliseum. If you are going to the game, come here and join us before. We'll have it on as well. Top 10 matchup first time. It's been a top 10 UK women's game in Lexington in nine years.
Starting point is 00:03:53 You get it tonight. And a big game for Kentucky, big chance to kind of make up for the loss the other night. national television. We'll be open here before the game, and you can come watch the game here. I'm going to try. I have to go to Louisville, but then I'm going to try to come back and actually go to the game because I think it should be a great environment. It will be an absolutely fantastic environment. Texas is number three for a reason.
Starting point is 00:04:17 They just beat, you know, the King of the Hill, South Carolina. I mean, that's a really good team. So it's a good chance for Kentucky to stand up and say, hey, we are for real. How do you think we're going to do tonight? Oh, we're winning. Absolutely winning, especially with them having the big win that they just got, Kentucky losing one that they had in the bag for most of the game.
Starting point is 00:04:32 It's just, it's a situational play for me, Matt, as our boy Phil still used to say. Situational play. All right, I like that. Well, I think I was told this morning there's like 50 tickets, literally. Wow. So if you want to go, you got to get on your phone right now. I think there's like 50 tickets for tonight.
Starting point is 00:04:50 And if you've never been to the new historic Memorial Coliseum, it's amazing. Like, we've gone from maybe having the worst women's arena in the SEC to one of the best, I would argue. I said this during the blue-white game. You sit there and you look around and you think you're in one of these new NBA arenas. It's kind of got that new, that feel to it. And it blows my mind where we were just a year ago with that place.
Starting point is 00:05:13 One person writes, Matt, what two teams that are good do you think end up in Lexington for the NCAA tournament? I have tickets to the first round. Auburn and Alabama, probably. They're the closest. I think you'll definitely get Auburn, and you'll probably get them. They'll probably be both Auburn and Alabama here. Some of my friends were hoping Purdue was going to end up here.
Starting point is 00:05:35 I think Purdue gets Cleveland probably. I think Purdue is probably a little closer to Cleveland, although they could end up here. But Auburn and Alabama are ranked higher, so they'll get the first priority. So I would say Tennessee, if I'm guessing Tennessee and Duke get placed in Raleigh, and then Michigan State gets placed in Milwaukee. You just kind of do the math.
Starting point is 00:05:57 Iowa State gets placed in Wichita. Houston gets placed in Wichita. And that's why I think we end up in Denver is there no good teams out on the West Coast and we end up out there. Can I tell you that our chances are going to Seattle just went up? Because according to Tom Leach, he said Kentucky can only play in either Raleigh, Milwaukee, Cleveland, or Seattle because Rupp Arena is a Thursday-Saturday host site and host teams don't play on the same days they host. Oh, is that right?
Starting point is 00:06:23 So Denver's out. Oh, so I didn't think about that. So what are the game? So Lexington is Thursday or Friday? Do you know? He said Rupp is Thursday, Saturday. So Lexington is Thursday. So that means we can only go to the Friday sites.
Starting point is 00:06:38 Right. Interesting. So that is Raleigh, what else? Milwaukee, Cleveland, or Seattle. Those are four pretty good ones. Oh, man. That sounds like we're going to Seattle. At least Wichita is out, though.
Starting point is 00:06:52 Well, so is Providence. Yeah. So I guess that means we got to hope it's Milwaukee or Cleveland. I mean, we could have fun and walk. I just don't want to go back to Seattle. Plus, like, having to fight for us to get plane tickets out there with our, with I heart, will be, man, I didn't, I didn't run. So that means we're playing on Friday. So unlike a couple of these tournaments, we won't be out the first day of the tournament.
Starting point is 00:07:15 Yeah, that's nice. Well, we were out first day of the tournament against Oakland. Oh, gosh, last year still haunts me. We had such a big Friday plan. So at least we can't, at least we won't be out the first day of the tournament. That would be good. I didn't know that was a rule that the whole... He's right.
Starting point is 00:07:29 I forgot that was a rule. So now we know it will either be Milwaukee, Cleveland. But see, it's not going to be Riley because Duke and Tennessee are going to end up there. So I would go down to say it's either going to be Milwaukee, Cleveland, or Denver. Well, not Denver. Or, see, Seattle. The problem is no good. There are no good teams in the West.
Starting point is 00:07:50 Now, if we drop to a five seed, then we're along for the ride with whoever, whoever, the seat is, but Shannon's right, we can still only go play in those places. It's kind of crazy. Lexington hosts, we never get to go because we're always on the road with Kentucky, wherever they're playing. I think we're going to end up. So now I'm going to guess. I'm kind of feeling like we're going to end up in Cleveland.
Starting point is 00:08:14 That would be the best for us, right? I think we could get a big crowd if we were in Cleveland. Good drive, as I said, great casino there. It's not the best city of all the options, but when you have Seattle in the conversation, I'll take anything to not make that Seattle. If we just went all the way to Seattle and then we can go right back again, that would stink. At least it was a good game out there, had a good turnout. From a basketball standpoint.
Starting point is 00:08:35 It's just far away. Max has already left, so he can't even go see. No, he's got to meet us there if it's Seattle. He can't even go see his lady. One person writes, Matt, if you have to give up one thing between KSR, ESPN, and OVW, which would you give away? Well, OVW, I don't do a ton with. So, I mean, that would, you know, I mean, I don't consider. or I don't have to give that up because I don't do a ton with it.
Starting point is 00:08:58 I mean, KSR is going to be last because it's like my main, you know. That's your baby. Yeah. ESPN, I mean, I'm going to keep doing ESPN for like another year or so probably. And then if I don't, they don't give me like a bigger, like any daily gig, I'll probably say that was fun. I enjoy it, but like I'm not going to, I can't keep getting up every Sunday morning. Like, that's my day off and I end up doing three hours on topics I know nothing about. at some point it has to lead to something where I won't keep going.
Starting point is 00:09:27 So you're looking to maybe do a daily show in the afternoon or the evening, which do you prefer? Well, I couldn't do the morning because I don't get up that early. Obviously, can't do this time. So it would have to, but I don't want to spend every evening. Ideally would be like 12 to 3.
Starting point is 00:09:45 The ideally thing for me would be like the moment this is over, go do that. Just knock it all out. Just knock it all out and be done. That would be the... Let me go home and sit in silence because you've been talking for five hours straight. Who's up next, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:09:58 Mark. Mark, go ahead, Mark. Hey, Matt, how's we going? First time? Who are? So I was going to ask about Marie Williams and Lamont Butler, if we lost one of them at the beginning of the season, which one are we winning more games?
Starting point is 00:10:19 Boy, that's a great. I think we would win more games losing Amari than Butler, although I think Amari is hugely important, but like you could play car at the five. You could go small. I mean, obviously Garrison struggles defensively, but I just think without Butler, we really, really struggle, like really struggle to play defense against good teams. I just don't think we can do it. I like that.
Starting point is 00:10:49 I mean, I want to give some love out to us, Williams, because without him, the last couple of games, We are not women. No, Amari's, I appreciate the call, Amari's like benefit to the team is obvious. And I appreciate the call. His plus minus, the best plus minus the entire season over the course of the year is Amari Williams. He's really developed into a really solid five in this league.
Starting point is 00:11:17 You know, he's learned how to play physical, learn how to take contact and finish. He's, you know, he hits most of his free throws with that ugly form. but you're right when he's when he's out of the lineup we're okay what do you think about butler's out of the lineup we struggle i will never figure out his free throw form he takes the ball he holds it with one hand then he brings his second hand on and then he shoots it with one hand yeah it's a bizarre and he looks like when he shoots it he has the biggest hands on the
Starting point is 00:11:46 planet he looks like he's shooting a tennis ball and it looks like it's barely getting over the rim every time like it's still kind of on it's well up just to get over it, but he has been so good. He's still top five in, like, defensive rebounding percentage. Pope even complimented him on one of the recent speaking things he does about how he quit trying to make the crazy plays that were turnovers. Remember early in the year, three times a game, the ball would end up in the stands. He's really dialed that back to him.
Starting point is 00:12:10 I went back and watched the second half against Tennessee. He had a huge A&1 in that game. Like, he took him off the dribble and he missed the free throw, but he hit a shot that would have been a no, no, no yes for me and got fouled. and it was a big play in the game. Speaking of watch the game, because I was there up on my mountaintop. I watched the TV replay yesterday. That was so much fun rewatching it.
Starting point is 00:12:30 I agree. And I was just, I don't watch many of them on TV, but that was just the whole experience. The mics, I hear you all talk about all the time. The Go Big Blues coming through. I had so much fun rewatching it. Yeah. Who's next, Shannon? John.
Starting point is 00:12:42 John. Go ahead, John. Hey, originally from Harlan County, Kentucky. And Coach Noah, which is Trent's Daddy, was my, teacher. Okay. High school, and I live in Knoxville. So these Tennessee wins, I'm loving it.
Starting point is 00:13:02 Yeah, they got to hit home for you. From Harlan and live in Knoxville, I'm not sure you could enjoy these Tennessee wins more. I aggravated. Everybody I knew, I said, you know one song that hasn't been played at the final four? And they said, what? I said, Rocky Top. Well, somebody had that sign in the crowd, too.
Starting point is 00:13:22 Yeah. Yeah, I've seen that, yes. That's what made me say it. All right. Well, I appreciate the call. Yes, if you were from Harlan. First of all, if you live in Knoxville, what a terrible existence to begin with. I mean, Knoxville, what a city.
Starting point is 00:13:42 At least you got a cool mayor. He's not even the mayor of Knoxville. He's the mayor of Knox County. He's the mayor of Knox County. He's not even the mayor of Knoxville. Even he doesn't like Knoxville. Yeah, he's like even. He wants to live out in halls, you know.
Starting point is 00:13:55 I think I'm going to Kentucky at Tennessee baseball this year. I've never done that, so I'm going to be jumping in the orange. I bet that's a good crowd. Non-bassball thing for a second. Do you know, Ryan, who Pete Davidson is? Yes. So give me, like if I were to say, give me two facts about Pete Davidson. What would you say?
Starting point is 00:14:12 Start on Saturday Night Live, dated Kim Kardashian, made a movie about his dad that died in 9-11. Okay, that's good. Yeah. I thought you were going to say, you know, he has all. all these tattoos. Oh, yeah. He's got tattoos. Have you seen?
Starting point is 00:14:25 I don't know if you saw he was on some talk show. He is removing all of his tattoos. All of them. He said, like, he wants to be an actor, and he has a hard time getting jobs because of all the tattoos. So he is going through the process of getting all of his tattoos. And you need to go find a picture of him when he was, like, when he was at his tattoo-e-ist, he is getting all of them taken away. Drew's acting like he can find it, but he can't.
Starting point is 00:14:56 I was just showing it. I mean, he's already done it. Like, how do they even do that? So he said it was the most painful process that you can imagine. Because he has to go multiple times for each one. And I wish somebody had a before and after. His whole body was covered in his arms, and he is going one arm at a time and his chest,
Starting point is 00:15:18 and he is getting them all taken off. Because he feels like that I help him get other acting gigs. Well, if you have all that on you, you're not going to be able to play like a preacher. Like there's going to be some jobs you just can't have if you have all those tattoos. And yeah, you see the picture of him there. Think about Shannon how hard that must have been to get all of those tattoos taken off. Yeah, I don't have any tattoos, but I've always heard to get it removed. It hurts a lot more than getting the tattoo itself.
Starting point is 00:15:45 Did you see how much money he spent getting that removed? How much? $200,000. $200,000 to get removed. Well, I mean, he said it's taking him like basically six months of doing nothing else except getting his tattoos removed. I didn't know they could do it like that. I knew they could take them off, but I thought it would show some scars or something. I mean, his were all, his had like multiple colors.
Starting point is 00:16:11 Like they're not just like that. Yeah, yeah, look at that. So he got. Oh, my goodness. Is that not amazing? I did not know they could do that. Oh, my goodness. To get all of those taken off.
Starting point is 00:16:23 And look, it's not like his skin doesn't even look burned or anything. Yeah, I thought it would show almost like he'd been in a fire or something. How do they do it? So, man. So before you get in. Patino, you're next, bud. Get in line, get the chair. Take it right off.
Starting point is 00:16:37 I like that. Who's next, Shannon? Jane. Jane. Jane. Hi, how are you? Good. What's up?
Starting point is 00:16:44 You can hear me? Yes. Okay, hey, I had a question. I hope it's not a stupid one. So when you have to declare a, a player ineligible for the game for the night. Can you not make a choice to be a game time decision or like maybe or whatever? If the SEC feels like you lied on the pregame report, they can find you.
Starting point is 00:17:03 Now, of course, I mean, I'm sure there's some games and ship that's going on in those injury reports, but because the gambling piece of it, the SEC says if they think that you put questionable but you knew he wasn't playing, like they basically, basically say you cannot lie. Now, Jane, do I think teams do it? Probably yes. But I think, you know, the threat of fine, I think it's a little more serious than it used to be. Okay, so it's fine. It's not about stats or anything. Because I was like, well, what about just saying maybe for Jackson Robinson? And then in the last minute, we really need him for something. Because I think if it was, if it was proven that like he hadn't practiced, they had never
Starting point is 00:17:44 intended him to play, I think it's, you know, the risk is probably not worth whatever little gamesmanship it might be to say maybe. Okay. That's my guess. But it's not like a rule. Yeah. Well, it is a rule. I mean, I would say maybe every time.
Starting point is 00:18:00 But I just said to you, if they think you're saying maybe and they, and you know it's out, they'll find you. Okay. Yeah. I appreciate the call. I mean, if they were to sit and put everyone, maybe every game, at some point the SEC and the NCAA would be like stop doing that. And, you know, it feels like what they've put on the thing has been correct this year, right?
Starting point is 00:18:21 Yeah, I've only seen Kentucky and their opponents, and everything's been pretty accurate. I don't know that the SEC sends a doctor to look at every player, but it's like you're saying, it's not something you want to get caught messing with. The NFL and the NBA, the NFL does it to where you have to declare specifically, and like, they will find you. They have fine teams for line. Yeah, Rich Brooks, when he was here, he would even, it was, had nothing to to do that he would still go through the injury report before every news conference.
Starting point is 00:18:46 Yeah. I did hear that Jackson's wrist may be, may keep him out a little longer than we thought. I don't expect to see him until the SEC term. Yeah, I may be right. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns,
Starting point is 00:21:00 Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
Starting point is 00:21:36 And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
Starting point is 00:21:54 because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing.
Starting point is 00:22:12 That man, hell get the first. mind. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, after you go through a training camp with that, I said, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart
Starting point is 00:22:27 Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker. This linebacker.
Starting point is 00:22:42 This linebacker whops up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Quarterback on office blue of 42. Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Clippers show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back.
Starting point is 00:23:12 It is Kentucky Sports Radio 8592-802287. One person that just wrote me and asked if I wanted to walk in the Reds opening day parade. That would be fun. Yes, you do. That would be fun. Is that during the show, though? It's usually in the morning. Well, maybe we could do it, do the show from the parade.
Starting point is 00:23:30 I've always wanted to go to opening day. Wouldn't that be fun to do the show? You can throw us candy as you come by? No, but I mean, like, we could do the show while walking in the parade. Oh, okay. You're going to trust this equipment on opening day. in downtown Cincinnati Don't kill my vibe
Starting point is 00:23:48 No I'm saying you do it And we'll watch and you throw us candy And we'll be set up somewhere Yeah we could do that Yeah that would be That would be a lot of fun I don't know if anybody in Cincinnati Would know who I am
Starting point is 00:23:59 But that's okay You're one of six people with season of tickets I would never Shannon argue with Tom Leach Okay Yeah But somebody just sent me the official NFL rule We can still play on Thursday Okay
Starting point is 00:24:10 I said NFL College basketball rule So the rule is we can't play in Lexington, but we can still play on Thursday. Now, maybe they try to not make you on Thursday. Yeah. Is this somebody you trust more than Tom Leach? Well, they sent me the rule. Oh. Like the actual, like printed rule. Okay. So they think. Far bit for me, I don't want to disagree with Tom Leach. I'm just so. They may try to have a courtesy do that, but it's not a written rule that they don't do it. Yeah, I think that's probably the thing. Can we talk just a second about Mark Stoops'
Starting point is 00:24:40 his comments on Sports Center the other day. We didn't get to get to it. Mark Stoops was on SportsCenter, said we did not have enough discipline last year on and off the field. It's the first time I've heard him say that off the field. He said it on on the field, but I hadn't heard him say it off the field. He said we intentionally tried to get guys that will make that happen. He did say, however, last year was a blip, we'll be back to what we were.
Starting point is 00:25:07 Do you think last year, Ryan, was a blip? I love it when he's got that attitude. That's what I want to hear my coach say. But do you think it's true? I think they'll definitely reset, hit the reset button and bring the culture of the back the way it was when he first got here. I really believe that is going to happen. But do you think it's a blip the performance last year?
Starting point is 00:25:30 Like what do you think is more likely? If I say to you next year, what's more likely? We have a season where put the record aside, though we're competitive every game and we're out and it looks like the Stoops teams of the first eight or nine years or it looks like the team last year and to some extent the year before
Starting point is 00:25:51 although they did play better the year before what's more likely I would say more likely the Stoops of old do you believe that? I can see your face you don't look like I think they'll go they will be competitive they'll be terrible schedule
Starting point is 00:26:08 that's why I'm hesitating what to say because I don't think the wins are going to be there but I think there will be a better stoops-like team yeah I think that they know that they've messed up I don't know about calling it a blip because it's been a few years it seems I think we'll see less of the issues
Starting point is 00:26:26 we won't hear as much about stuff but I just don't know that that will translate too much of a season yeah see I look at that schedule and I say we could be significantly better and finish five and seven. Yes. Like, we could be significantly better and finish five and seven.
Starting point is 00:26:45 And I don't see a world where we can finish nine and three. Like, I think we could be, he might have the best team he's ever had, and we can't finish nine and three. Now, we could finish eight and four, seven, and five, but like the year where, we went two years where we finished nine and three, I don't think there's any world we could finish. finish 9 and 3 just because of their schedule. You'd need Calzada to show up and be Johnny Amanzel or have like a pavia
Starting point is 00:27:12 like jump. And we need these other teams to really stink. Yeah. Like they would need to all take a huge step back, Ryan, from where they've been the last few years. And they've all done their due diligence in recruiting and the transfer portal. They're going to get better. I think we're on the same
Starting point is 00:27:28 page. We think this team could be good. It just may not translate into wins. I mean, we're going to play four teams that were in the playoff last year. That's tough for anybody. And Louisville was almost in the playoffs. And South Carolina could have been in the playoff. I mean... That's tough for even our best team to have to go through that schedule.
Starting point is 00:27:44 And several of these teams have... It's some of the best quarterbacks in the country. These are guys that are going to be in the NFL. You've got Arch Manning. You got Lagway down at Florida. You got Tennessee with Nico. I wasn't even count in Florida. I mean, these teams have some stars on their team.
Starting point is 00:27:57 Yeah. On their rosters. So there you go. Who's up next? Cynthia. Cynthia. How are you, Cynthia? Hey, I'm good.
Starting point is 00:28:07 I'm actually calling from a. a cruise ship that's sailing around South America. And we just sailed around the tip of Argentina through the Drake's Passage around Cape Horn. And I'm confirming that the waters are rough. So wait me, you just went through Cape Horn and Drake's Pass. How random is that? You're on the, you're on the ship right now? Yep, we're on the ship right now. It left from Valparaiso Chile on the 1st of February. It goes all the way until the 18th of February. and ends in Buenos Aires, Argentina. So how rough was the passage?
Starting point is 00:28:50 I don't know how to, I mean, 20 plus foot seas and rough, like banging, like the ship is just, I don't know, banging. It sounded like banging on the water. It sounds like at times the whole ships is going to fall apart. I mean, I've never been through anything like it, and it was awful. Wow. Scared me. How random is this?
Starting point is 00:29:12 that you're listening. I wish I had more time to have you on, but thank you for calling. I'm glad you got through Drake's passage. Appreciate it. Sir Francis, that's for Sir Francis Drake. It scares me. Wow. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Can't believe the woman called from the... That was pretty cool. Although there's some people on the text machine don't believe it, Shannon. Oh, really? Skeptical of it, huh?
Starting point is 00:29:47 I believe her. She called the phrase, yeah, why would you lie about that? Why would you call and lie about that? What does that accomplish? I think she was on it. She used a phrase Drake's passage. I didn't even say that. So she had to come up with that, like, unless she looked it up,
Starting point is 00:30:00 that wasn't even one of the things I called it. I forgot that it was called Drake Passage. It sounded like she was having a delay on her phone, which makes me think she was on the cruise ship. That's another thing. That's another thing. Doesn't it cost, like, a lot of money to call in from a cruise ship? Not now.
Starting point is 00:30:14 Because if you're close to the shore, and just pick it up the thing on the shore. It used to be. It cost a zillion dollars to do it, but now it wouldn't. Maybe the most KSR call of all time of just the randomness and hard to believe. I believe it. So you don't believe? No, I do.
Starting point is 00:30:28 But the fact that someone was actually south of South America on a boat when we're talking about that is one of our more ridiculous calls. ESPN is talking about the Jets just announced they're not going to bring back Aaron Rogers. The story about this is amazing. So apparently the Jets met with Aaron Rogers a week ago and said, all right, Aaron. for us to consider bringing you back, you've got to agree to two things. You have to come to every practice. Which seems to be a pretty good requirement for your quarterback. And you can't be on the Pat McAfee show.
Starting point is 00:30:56 That's what they said. Those are their two requirements. You have to come to every practice, and you can't be on the Pat McAfee show. And he just said no. And they were like, well, all right, then we're going a different direction. I feel like those are reasonable requirements. I think so. I feel like the first one isn't even a requirement.
Starting point is 00:31:15 Like, it is the job. Come to every practice. And the fact that that was something that was even had to be said tells me he was awful last year. Like, if you're not even coming to every practice, then there's that. And then the McAfee show, like, man, it's an hour a week. Like, just don't do it. You come off as a freak show on it anyway. Just don't do it.
Starting point is 00:31:36 So if I'm the Jets, and he stunk, it's not like he was good. No, he was like it. If I'm the Jets, Ryan, I think that's a perfectly reasonable request, and I think they should be glad they got rid of it. I think you would want your starting quarterback to come to all the practices to work on game prep for that weekend. I think that would probably be a fair request. Just come to every practice.
Starting point is 00:31:56 That seems like that's the least requirement you could make, and I guess it was too much for him. Yeah, but this one's hitting home for me because Titans are considered a destination for him next year, and I can't. I can't do that. Even if it's one year, I can't have Aaron Rogers as my quarterback. You're going to end up in Nashville. He's going to be your quarterback.
Starting point is 00:32:15 I think he already has a house there. Yes, he'll be like instead of Macafee, he'll go on like Ben Shapiro every week. Like, you're getting him. I don't want him. I'd rather have Will Levis back, but it's the Steelers and Titans are teams that might do it. Well, why would they want him to know he was bad? Why does anybody want him? And he's, what, 40?
Starting point is 00:32:35 He's 71 years old. Like, he's, I mean, it's a wonderful. age, my mother is 71, but I don't want my mother playing quarterback for the Jets. Do you want her on the Pat McAfee show? My mom would smack Pac-McChy in the face. Like, seriously, like, my mom would not enjoy just she wouldn't like the whole vibe of it. That's mean, she wouldn't smack Pat McIx. Well, he's talked about Max.
Starting point is 00:32:59 They'd actually probably like her. Yeah, no, she wouldn't like that. She would defend Max. That's right. Who's up next? Let's go to Jim. Jim, go ahead, Jim. Yeah, Matt.
Starting point is 00:33:09 First time, Kyle. Who are? What's up? I want to van a little bit about the football ticket situation. Okay, so you were to talk about football tickets. By the way, before you do it, the amount of messages I've gotten about football tickets, I almost want to give access to the text machine to the UK football, to the sports people, because y'all have no idea how mad people are about the football tickets.
Starting point is 00:33:32 I just want to say that. But go ahead, sir, give your opinion. Well, I'm mad. First off, I want to say my mother and daddy, had tickets in Commonwealth Stadium the first year it opened. We have always had tickets. We've never missed a year. My dad passed away in 2005,
Starting point is 00:33:52 and from the time Commonwealth Stadium I opened until he passed away, he probably didn't miss a handful of games. That's just what he did. When he passed away, me and my little brother, we started going, and we've had a motorhome pass, probably as long as they've had a motor home lot. So my motorhome has been at Commonwealth Stadium since 2005, every game but won. Wow.
Starting point is 00:34:19 And the game we missed, I gave it the pass away. I went to the RV club and said, I don't get to come next week. Here's my Pice to give it to somebody. And so, well, you can sell that. I said, no, I don't want to sell it. I won't give it away. Yeah. And last year, with eight games, with our Pice and six tickets, our package,
Starting point is 00:34:38 cost me $522 a week. This year, if I get my package and I'm 90% sure I'm not going to, it's going to be over $750 a week. Wow. So let me go back a second. Go back to your dad. What year did your family start going to games?
Starting point is 00:35:03 Well, it was before Commonwealth Stadium opened. So like, give me like 19, what, 70, So what do you think? What do you think? Well, I mean, I'm almost 64 years old, and he went when I was a little boy. Okay, so we're talking at least 50, 50, 60 years. And you're going to give it up because, and just quickly, besides, I mean, that's a very expensive number. But if you were to just articulate why you're going to give it up, what is it?
Starting point is 00:35:30 Well, I'm going to give it up. I was basically told yesterday, and I thought, if I'm not mistaken, I first talked to the ticket office, when I just called to renew them, and they told me how much it was, and it kind of floored me because I had what I paid last year. And it's like $1,200, $1,200, $1,200 more with one last game. Yeah. So then I got on with the K-fund Club, and I think I talked to the head person, and he basically told me, you know, because the motorhome thing went up a whole lot.
Starting point is 00:36:05 and he basically told me, well, we can do that because we can. We can, you know, they've got a waiting list for motorhome passes. And he basically said, we can do that because we can. And I said, well, you know, you guys want the fans to be loyal, but you're not loyal to us. And he swore, our motorhome people are most loyal fans. And I said, well, I disagree with that because I'm in the motorhome lot every weekend. And the guy that parked next to me last year was at one game.
Starting point is 00:36:30 And the rest of the time, he sold his pack. Well, first of all, I appreciate. like you. I appreciate you articulating your thoughts and the issue and appreciate your call, sir. What he just said, I'm hearing a version of multiple times every day. And, you know, you lose, there's a soul of fan bases. And if you lose that and it becomes something else, you know, you'll miss it.
Starting point is 00:37:01 And with basketball, again, there's 24,000 seats. you have to sell almost three times that many for football, and you just can't take people for granted. And I don't know that the head of the K fund said, we can do it because we can. But if they did, that's a horrible answer. You know, we can raise it because we can, is a horrible answer,
Starting point is 00:37:28 especially to a person like that who's been had a family going Ryan for 60 years. And it seems like the RV and the motorhome people are the ones that are really the most upset about it, increasing the prices that much for people that have been coming for years and years and years and years and showing their support for the team. We've gotten a ton of messages about people upset, but we've now had two callers. One that I was put on hold and no one ever picked up on the other end. They just left me. And now this guy's bringing up a serious concern, someone that's been a season ticket holder for a long time,
Starting point is 00:37:59 and you're saying, nope, too bad, we'll go to the next in line. Sounds like the PR is just as bad as the price increase. One more thing. I want to bring up an issue. So the state of Alabama is trying to pass a law right now, and my guess it may pass, that would exempt NIL earnings by players from taxes. Basically, any money gotten by players for taxes would be exempt from,
Starting point is 00:38:25 or excuse me, any money gotten for NIL would be exempt from state tax. I have strong thoughts about this. All right. I'm more pro-NIL money than anybody. I've been saying kids should be paid for 15 years, and I think they should be paid. But if the state of Kentucky were to do that, I will say it's a shame.
Starting point is 00:38:48 All right, I want these kids to make money, and I will grant you that a state having a tax on it might make a minor difference for a kid trying to decide between, like, Florida that doesn't have a state tax or whatever. but I don't care. There's a point to this. And I refuse, as much as I want kids to make money, and I do.
Starting point is 00:39:09 I refuse to say a system where a person that goes and works construction or in a restaurant or whatever, or a gas station, that they should be taxed and a kid that plays football or basketball should not. It's ridiculous. States can decide how to tax people. Everybody's got a different system. Some states have a highest tax. Some states don't let the state decide.
Starting point is 00:39:33 But the idea of exempting only college athletes is a terrible way to run a society. And I want to win as much as anybody, but you don't go say, hey, all of you, hey, school teachers, nurses, we're taxing you. But hey, basketball player who's going to be here one year and then go move somewhere else, we're not going to tax you. I just don't believe in that. And if it hurts our team a little bit, well, then it hurts our team a little bit. Well, it hurts their team a little bit.
Starting point is 00:40:01 Do you know what I mean? Yeah. Will Kentucky make a move on this? I don't know. We'll see if Alabama and Georgia do it. But if they do, I think it's wrong. I mean, they're going to do a lot of stuff in Frank Friday, I think is wrong, so they may not care. But I'm just saying, like, I just think that would be, it's a terrible precedent about what our priorities are in the state.
Starting point is 00:40:22 Yeah, that's outrageous. And these kids, they need to learn to pay their taxes on their NIA. Yeah, I agree. I mean, it's the real world now. You're getting a check. Yeah, not all that goes to you. I can't even believe they consider this. I don't know it's Alabama and you want the competitive advantage.
Starting point is 00:40:36 At some point, you got to draw a line on that. You do have to draw a line. At some point, you do have to, like, you got to stand for something. And as much as I want to win in sports, you know, let's cut schools so we can give more money to, to, I'm just, as much as I love sports, I'm not going there. That's the one that I'll, that's where I personally would draw the line. breadhemp.com, full-spectrum flour-only hemp, CBD gummies. Let's say you want to rest? You like resting.
Starting point is 00:41:05 I love the rest. Do you like to relax? Do you sometimes have a lot of stress, and you feel the need to kind of come down and come back to normal? After I work with you on this show, I do sometimes, yeah. That was a joke. That was just a joke just for you. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:41:22 Now you should do cornbreadthympt.com. I'm going to need it after that one. promo code KSR. buy two get one free during the what's the what's the code i don't have the sweet deal real sweet deal that's it sweet deal but through tomorrow through valentine's day buy two get one free code is sweet deal cornbread hemp uh com we'll take a break ryan may or may not be here uh after that line this kentucky sports radio last night a blown call changed a game this morning the internet lost its mind highlights are trending opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.

Starting point is 00:42:55 Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses.
Starting point is 00:43:14 Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Starting point is 00:43:42 What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what? He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reed. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by like Quentin Richardson,
Starting point is 00:44:23 we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash will get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court,
Starting point is 00:44:39 and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the Fourth. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game.
Starting point is 00:44:57 This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me, he goes, Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Quarterback on office blue of 42. Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio app,
Starting point is 00:45:22 Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. For something, I'll... Welcome back. Tughey Sports Radio. 859-280-2287. Text machine is 772-774-5254. One person writes, Matt, you are a steekin-liberal. We shouldn't have a state income tax.
Starting point is 00:45:44 That's fine. Then, like, get the legislature to pass that. I mean, some states can do it. Other states can't. I don't think we can do it because we don't have enough tourism. But if they can do it and fund the schools and all that, I'm for it. Listen, you know, I'll just say this. For me personally, Matthew Harper-Jones, Republican tax policies help me. All right. The question is,
Starting point is 00:46:10 what's best for everybody else? Like, for me, every cut and tax helps me. But the question is, for everybody else, I just think whatever system you have, you can't then just say, but these college athletes don't have to do it. They should be the same, Drew, as everybody else. at least my opinion. Whatever the system is, just make it the system. Why does someone have to be asked to give their post-tax dollars to a college kid? To a college kid. Who doesn't have to pay taxes?
Starting point is 00:46:36 Why should the person that, yeah, that goes to UK and works at KS. Bar, why should they have to pay taxes? But the kid that plays basketball does not. I just don't believe that. It doesn't seem to be a very fair system. No, it doesn't. The woman on the ship, she wrote me and said, I am here, and she resented the person.
Starting point is 00:46:57 who said they didn't. And then a different person on the text machine found Shannon the ship she is on and the itinerary, and it followed exactly what she said. I have a caller that's saying the same thing, so it may be the caller. All right, let's put them on. Let's put them on. Joe. Joe, what's, Joe, are you the one that found the itinerary?
Starting point is 00:47:17 I did. I did. I mean, everything's available online and vessel finder. You can find practically a live picture of that boat. It curves the horn. it's uh you know called malibu peach or something i you don't have all the data right there so anyone who doesn't believe this woman they got a i don't know find god or something they got to go to church or they're okay the malibu peach all right well there you go
Starting point is 00:47:40 no it's called one second it's called pacific world and it's it just as she said left belparaiso i thought she was drunk i thought she was talking about indiana i guess that's a tough sound from balparezo indiana yeah And then it arrives the 18th. You guys have a good day. Go cast. Thank you. How about that? Went ahead and looked it up. I did doubt her story. And now we have facts. Let me ask you a question.
Starting point is 00:48:06 This is becoming an issue because, you know, the Elon, he's now in charge of, apparently, the whole world. And he's in charge of the FAA. He's like in there. And he's saying he doesn't think Americans should have access to the private flights, to, like, private planes. You know how you can look up and see when people. private planes are flying in and out. Do you think Americans should have access? You don't necessarily know who owns them, but when planes are coming in and out,
Starting point is 00:48:35 do you think they should have access to that? I can kind of be swayed to say no. You know, what is it your business where Brad Pitt's flying around? It doesn't sound very profit to me if everybody can find it. Well, no, the plane is probably. I know it. I know what it means, but I'm just saying. See, I think everybody's going to.
Starting point is 00:48:57 one-day regret. You know, on paper, I can see why people think that. But then what about when something happens? Don't you think people should have access to when there is a crash and being able to know what happens? And don't you think you should have access to how much our airports are being used? And because, you know, when people land a plane, there are taxes, shouldn't you have access to how much people, you know, I feel like, look, you can go look up right now.
Starting point is 00:49:27 everybody who owns a car in Kentucky, why shouldn't you be able to look up everybody that owns a plane? Why do we only exempt rich people and not the everyday citizen? You can go look up everybody that owns a house. Why should a plane be different? Why should we make different rules just because somebody has wealth? I'm for it. I've even used the plane tracker quite often.
Starting point is 00:49:49 How do you think we're going to know when Scott Drew flies here? Exactly. I've never said this, but back when I was covered recruiting, I found out Caliperi's tail number. And I learned who he was visiting because of flight tracker. I would trace, well, why is he in this random city in Kansas? Oh, that player is 20 minutes away. I mean, you're a realtor.
Starting point is 00:50:06 Don't you want to have access to the houses and who buys what? I can be swayed into having access to who owns them. But I don't know. We need to know where they're flying to and from. Yeah, we don't have a tracker on people's cars. I mean, it's a little bit different about who owns a plane and where that plane's going. True, but you also don't get it. Like, the government doesn't get attacks based.
Starting point is 00:50:27 on where you drive. When you drive somewhere, we're not using, like, you know, people who run airports like the, what do you call it? Where you say, you leave, you go. Air traffic control. Yeah, those are public officials, right?
Starting point is 00:50:43 And you're using public airports. It's not the same when you drive from your house to my house. I get it. You know, I'm just, I don't think I need to know where. The hard thing about you is,
Starting point is 00:50:56 you just don't really want to ever take a position on anything. I'm Switzerland. But you want to run for mayor. Well, when I run for mayor, that'll be my position. That's when you're going to decide what your positions are. What if this comes up in your debate? Some of these things are going to come up. Well, that's what I'll tell them.
Starting point is 00:51:14 I've got great people working with me that can help me figure out what's the best answer. But you don't have any people. I'll have all kinds of great people then. What people? You're going to be on my cabinet. I need someone who believes something. I believe you. I'm your Elon.
Starting point is 00:51:29 You're just going to let me run everything? That's perfect. All right. Sounds good. It's love at first drive. It's love at first drive at Don Franklin. That's nice. The tools and the experience to help you find your perfect vehicle to fit your budget and lifestyle.
Starting point is 00:51:44 Over 5,000 vehicles, 27 dealerships all across the state. There's one near you at Don Franklin. Great selection. 2025 models are in now as well. Go to Don Franklin Auto.com. or find a Don Franklin dealership near you. Ryan, tomorrow will be with the police doing the show. It is not open to the public, but it will be a police remote.
Starting point is 00:52:05 We did one at the firehouse here in Lexington not long ago, so now we're going to do one with the police department. Now we get to be with the police tomorrow, so that should be excited. Very excited. Never been in a police department. Ever? Wink? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:52:15 Yeah, you've never been on the good side of a police department. Maybe I haven't. You've been on the other side a few times. The women tonight play at seven. A guy right here bought a ticket while are you sitting here. Go to the game. Come watch it here at the bar. Thank you all very much. It's been Kentucky Sports Radio. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy.
Starting point is 00:52:34 Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me.
Starting point is 00:52:55 with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Last night, a blown call changed a game.
