Your 20s can be so exciting, but they can also be really overwhelming, confusing, and honestly, just kind of lonely. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the psychology of your 20s is breaking down the science behind the biggest roadblocks we face. I was six years into my career, the 80-hour weeks, and just the first one in, the last one out, and I ended up burning out. There was a large chunk of my 20s that I like was just so wanting to like be out of that phase out of my skin. And I just like really regret not living in the present more. You don't need to have everything figured out right now.
Starting point is 00:02:08 You just need to understand yourself a little bit better. Listen to the psychology of your 20s on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Starting point is 00:02:46 This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones. Welcome, everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio Thursday, February the 20th. Jones here live at the KS Bar and Grill where it's a snowy Thursday, but you can come out and see us, have a little food. Tonight is trivia. The Matt Jones trivia night, you can come and play with your team, and I'm working on the questions. Got a lot to do today.
Starting point is 00:03:17 I've gotten very little done. So this afternoon is going to be question writing time in the Matt Jones household. You can give a shout to Clark's Pump and Shop phone line. 859-280-2287. A-Vision Auto Glass, Texas. machine is 772-744-5-254 in this edition, sponsored by the T.J. Smith-L-Alovis. If you call T.J. will make them pay. Cats win yesterday against Vanderbilt. This young man right here, it was his first game. He went to. Nice. Good game to see because Kentucky wins by
Starting point is 00:03:44 21, 82-61. Big night for Amari Williams. First player since Paul Gasol in 2010 in the NBA, in either college or the NBA, to have at least 15 points in a game, four blocks, not miss a field goal, not miss a free throw, and no turnovers. I don't know who comes up with those stats, but he did it. And Colin Chandler, what is it? Johnny Rocker, Roll Player of the game. Johnny Rocker, Roll Player, the game came up seven points and looked comfortable. It was a good performance for him, too.
Starting point is 00:04:17 You know, I'd like to say I had some inside knowledge that I knew he was going to do that, but I kind of just pulled that one out of my rear. And it worked. And it worked. Pull more things out of your rear, Drew. I think it will help the team if we get, You know, it was one-point game at halftime, and then kind of one of the better halves of the year for Kentucky in the second half, especially defensively. Yeah, Mari's perfect game was historically good, and O'Way had 20, but my takeaway is, hello, Colin Chandler.
Starting point is 00:04:44 If he can do that, you know, most games. Well, most. Just some. We can't even expect it all the time, but if he can continue to do that semi-regularly, he just brings an athleticism that the other freshmen don't have. It's just a little different element to the game. So that was my biggest takeaway in favorite moment, and I hope he had a little bit of a breakthrough there. I like the second half because a guy called in the postgame show with stats,
Starting point is 00:05:10 but basically I don't remember the exact numbers, but the overall theme was he played the best guys more. He didn't sub as much in the second half, and I think you saw it in terms of performance. He got a group in there that were rolling, just went with it. Didn't feel the need to just constantly change. for the sake of change and I thought it really really worked out well and you got to see Kentucky we won by 20 points in the second half held Vanderbilt to only 21 points in the second half I mean
Starting point is 00:05:41 the defense was really something we hadn't seen much this year and they really clamped down on Vandy so they get a win you know we if you have thoughts about the game 859-280 2287 but more importantly to me they're now seven and six they're in the conference they're going to go play Alabama, I don't expect that to go well. But who knows, but I'm not expecting it. But then I think that you're certainly in the tournament. I think it
Starting point is 00:06:07 can lose all the rest of the game, Brian, and still be in the tournament. I think they now are set up to get a buy in the SEC tournament if they can kind of do what they're supposed to do, and the fans get a little confidence after
Starting point is 00:06:23 the win. Yeah, your resume is strong. You're in. We said they needed to win that game last night, but they've got so many quad one wins. They're in. Okay, now it's built on what we saw, though, last night. You're still playing shorthanded, but it seemed to be playing better because, you know, with the Chandler playing point, Oteg had to stay at the two. Bray got to stay, you know, a lot of the three.
Starting point is 00:06:40 Both those guys played well last night. It is clear that for Mark Pope, there seems to be a definite desire to keep away at the two. I think they think, and, you know, when you go to Pete Point Guard 5, which is what they did last night, You clearly are wanting to keep Oway at the two, and I think that's probably a good decision, as long as Perry, Chandler, or Amari, if they're running the point, don't turn the ball over. Yeah, O'A, as good as he is, not a great ball handler, and he hasn't practiced point guard. I mean, they didn't think they'd have to get down to their fifth option. So Perry, even in June, was running point guard in practice.
Starting point is 00:07:17 That's why I think Pope went to him in the last game. That's kind of been his role. O'A, I mean, there was a game, the last game before this one, looked like you had Pam on a hands. You couldn't even hold on to the basketball, so I just don't know that he'll ever be the option there. Look at you with the Pam. You, Pam in your kitchen? I cooked breakfast this morning. I guess it's fresh on my mind. Do I use a lot of Pam? Yeah, like when you're cooking in the kitchen? I don't think that's anything I've ever purchased in any form. I'll get you a ball. I'll get you spray.
Starting point is 00:07:43 I mean, I know what it is. You spray it and it like. Yeah, a little nonstick. Yeah. A little slippery. I just, I don't think I've ever gotten it. But he doesn't look like a comfortable ball handler outside of my breakfast reference there. Andrew Carr became more and more like the car from the beginning of the year. I thought we'd been kind of at like 50% car. Maybe we got closer to 75%. Tom Pope clearly made a change in the second half, and he was like, we are getting the ball inside.
Starting point is 00:08:12 Because I think six of the first seven plays in the second half started with a post-up by either Williams or Carr, and that was clearly a good decision. No doubt. They went to that to second half, They take a size advantage that they had with Amari and Carr down there. You know, going to the season, Drew and I both thought Carl would maybe our MVP. I think this back injury is really setting back.
Starting point is 00:08:33 But you're right. We're seeing some signs and maybe he's getting closer and closer to being back to full strength. Yeah, I was very impressed with how he played. Yeah. I mean, I just, I thought, I love the switch to go into the post. I mean, that is not what they thought they would be doing. I can guarantee you in the early year they didn't think we're going to be posting teams up and going one on one in the post.
Starting point is 00:08:56 But you know what? It worked. One of the signs of a coach is you adjust to what your team needs in a given moment, and I think they were able to do that. Yeah, and still almost got their 33s. It was like we're either posting up or taking a good three. There was a moment in the second half, and I can't even remember what they got out of it. He might have gotten fouled, but Andrew Carr got triple teamed.
Starting point is 00:09:15 And I thought if they're triple teaming Andrew Carr, that's how we want to play, because that leaves open a lot of shooters around the perimeter. So that was a moment. I don't even remember. I think I got so excited that they even tripled teamed him. I don't even know what happened next. But if he's drawing that, that changes the offense. So we get the win.
Starting point is 00:09:30 There were some interesting things I think that happened. First of all, they had two babies directly behind the bench, almost as like a smack in your face. Not only did you say babies shouldn't go, they decided to put two on the front row. I am convinced, convinced that was either a plant or AI. Because I don't think of no way that would happen. I don't think I've ever been able to live.
Starting point is 00:09:52 I don't think I've ever seen two babies in the front row. And then of all the games, to have it then, I thought it was great. And not only two babies, perfectly well-behaved babies. Like, you know, the cameras saw them for a second. But the cameras caught them a lot. And every time you see them, they were just kind of just sitting there, like they were watching the game. So it had to be AI. They bought a ticket.
Starting point is 00:10:10 Hope they paid their $10. That's what I was going to say. Did they have to pay for the ticket? Because I didn't see empty seats next to them. Correct. So that says to me that maybe Shannon, if you're rich enough to sit in the front row, exception because I saw I saw people sitting on either
Starting point is 00:10:26 side of them so I kind of wonder if they had a ticket, Drew. I think we should have sent someone down there to make sure. Those are Pope seats. That's usually where Leanne sits, so I'm going to be careful. That could be a Pope relative. I don't want to answer Tom. I just want to know if we're going to do the ticket policy.
Starting point is 00:10:42 Well, I'm all in on they don't need a ticket. That's why Ryan, you acknowledge they were well behaved. Does that change your stance at all? Yeah, are you going to, with Mark Pope's presumably his family, do you want to say they're allowed into the game. I say my general thoughts are maybe you should not take your babies to the games. Get a babysitter.
Starting point is 00:10:59 Enjoy. Doubling down. Listen to this guy. He and Billy don't know when to stop, do they? They just keep going. And then they wonder why they have difficulties. They just double down, double down. I got a lot of support, though, on this hot take on social media.
Starting point is 00:11:16 Who? Oh, well, there you go. If it was on Twitter, we've seen that to be rational discussion. I think so, yeah. I'm waiting now for Elon to maybe make it a national thing. No, no, he's going to disagree. He lets his children go up his nose in the Oval Office, so I don't think he's going to agree with you.
Starting point is 00:11:33 We need a baby night. Let's go all the way in. Encourage bringing babies. Yeah, I won't be here the night we do that here. I'll let Brian handle that. Now, if UK ends up having, like, you know, sometimes they have a baby race at halftime when they get the babies, they line them up at halftime and see you.
Starting point is 00:11:47 Do you enjoy that? Do you like those? I think it's funny. But if they end up doing that, then we know that they're just rubbing it in my face. So Kentucky gets the victory. You got Alabama on Saturday. Alabama lost last night to Missouri. By the way, Missouri is 9 and 4 in conference,
Starting point is 00:12:01 and we're the only ranked team they still have left to play. Really? Like, they have a chance to go to finish like second in the SEC, which is, you know, no offense. Listen, I love Pope getting all his credit and Kelsey. There's a lot of people that deserve, but to me, Dennis Gates has got to be the coach of the year, right? He went 0 and 18 last year in the SEC. And they are with a lot of the same guys, they're 9 and 4.
Starting point is 00:12:28 And they ran Alabama last night. I watched that game after our game. They were up 12-0 in 2 minutes. Just like that. They got guys. They scored 110 points last night. They are really, really good. They're, you know, don't look now, but, yeah, Missouri may be the hottest team in the conference right now.
Starting point is 00:12:42 So, but we play Alabama. Now, they're coming off two double-digit losses in a row to Auburn and Missouri. do you give us any chance Saturday? Let's assume Butler and Robinson don't play. Oh, yeah. I haven't been nearly as down as like 90% of, I did not at one moment sweat the Vandy game. I was very confident Texas.
Starting point is 00:13:03 It fell apart at the end, but they should have won that one. I just think this is a very good team, even without the injuries. Now, Alabama will be favored, and I will pick Alabama to win, but I give Kentucky probably one out of three, 25% one out of four, that neighborhood.
Starting point is 00:13:17 Wow. That's, we won out of three. You think we play that game three times we won one? Yeah, I think so. Maybe 25 to 30 percent, isn't that ballpark? That's very, that's very optimistic. I like that. I just, I haven't, I know a lot of fans want to jump off.
Starting point is 00:13:33 Maybe I'm looking through blue glasses. I haven't been really down at any point. I recognize the roster, and I'm impressed by what they've been able to do with all those guys out. Would you go one out of three? No, I don't know if I'd go that high. I was thinking more closer to like 15 percent, because I think Alabama's going to be, red hot, mad. They lost to Auburn and then just lost on the road at Missouri.
Starting point is 00:13:52 They're going to come in back home. I mean, if we were to beat them, I think they fall to fifth in the SEC. Alabama? Alabama, a team that almost was right number one this week. I mean, so there's a, you know, it would be a huge win if we won. No, I wish they had won last night. I think coming off a loss makes it even harder. So maybe one out of four instead of about one out of three after losing.
Starting point is 00:14:13 What do you put them at? I don't know. Just because I think at Alabama, you have to score at least 90 points. You have to. You're not going to beat Alabama scoring less than 90. I just don't know if you add up our roster
Starting point is 00:14:27 how we get to 90 with the group we have. With the group we have. Because, I mean, I think to get to 90 when we were scoring 90, we had to have 10 to 15 from Butler and 20 from Robinson. So you take that out, where am I getting those other points? That's my only thing. When Alabama was here, Kentucky played really well that day. Alabama just a better team that day.
Starting point is 00:14:47 They are a better team overall. So, yeah, I think we're running into a Hornets Nest on Saturday. But also, I think tomorrow is the epitome of a free game. It is a free game. Saturday. If we win, that's great. But if we lose, it won't cost us in the seating. It won't hurt us in anything.
Starting point is 00:15:03 Like, it's really a free game. And then you end up with a four-game stretch to finish the year at Oklahoma, Auburn at home, LSU at home at Missouri. I think if you go two and two, you're great. If you could somehow go three and one, you're looking at a three-seed in the NCAA tournament. So, I mean, I, last night was so important. And now that they've won, Ryan, I feel better about it.
Starting point is 00:15:28 Yeah, I kind of was with you. I felt like these last six games to split them. Win three, lose three. Okay, you got the one win you should get, get these other wins, and you're still sitting pretty good. The one LSU coming here, that's the last. It won't knock you out of any tournaments, but that'll be a bad, bad loss. I do think Peter Burns should be punished.
Starting point is 00:15:45 No, he should. He needs an award. for bringing me up during the game. I think that was, you know, you can't bring people up when they don't have a chance, Shannon, to fight back, right? Here's your chance right now. So if you got something you want to say to Peter Burns. Yeah, but that was a national broadcast.
Starting point is 00:15:59 We're national. So a guy found the picture of me that we've seen before, which is me in like, I think I figured it was the fall of 2007, standing with Rob Godell, and I'm wearing a little, uh... Listen, button? Yeah, it's a little button that says beat bandy. I love that we had to. Have beat vandy buttons.
Starting point is 00:16:18 Like how great is that? How dorky? We had a beat vandy buttons. I had a beat vandy button, and I had it on. And the hair, I mean, I was overweight, cherubic. That was what I was described as cherubic. I had a mullet that was not good on many forms. And then Peter Burns made fun of it during the thing.
Starting point is 00:16:42 During the halftime show, we were all watching. He said Nebraska is playing as bad as Matt Jones's hair look 10 years ago first of all Peter that was 15 plus years ago more than 15 I don't think I knew you then and I've been with KSR 15 years it's going close to 20 sports mob with Matt Rob days that's how long I would have said something to you if it was 10 years ago would you have said something yes well didn't that look kind of change the course of your career yeah we well I'll mention a little bit what'd you say I said I have the clip if we need to hear it again yeah we'll play the clip in a minute and we'll take your calls 859 2802 20287 we're here at the

Starting point is 00:18:30 Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?
Starting point is 00:18:52 Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what.
Starting point is 00:19:27 He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted. this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
Starting point is 00:19:56 we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get to fly. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the bar like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the car. Get your ass up and down the car. And you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. There are times when the mind becomes a difficult place to live.
Starting point is 00:20:24 This is David Eagleman with the Inner Cosmos podcast. And for Mental Health Awareness Month, we're dedicating a series to understanding the mind when it struggles. I'm joined by doctors, researchers, and those with lived experience. We'll talk with singer-songwriter Jewel about anxiety. I started living in my car and then my car got stolen. I was shoplifting. I was having panic attacks.
Starting point is 00:20:47 I was agoraphobic. And making it through hardship. To be present is a learned skill. And it's hard to be present. We'll talk with John Nelson about clinical depression and the brain implant that saved his life. What I learned is that procedure made me happy because I'm disease-free.
Starting point is 00:21:06 And we'll talk with leading experts like Judd Brewer about anxiety. and John Hirschfield about obsessive-compulsive disorder and the science of how the brain can change. This is a month of deeply personal and honest conversations about what happens when the brain goes off course and what we can do about it. Listen to Inner Cosmos on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:21:36 Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 8.59-2802287. One person writes, Matt, don't you think, Kobe Bray is going to have to still take more shots, played 31 minutes, took six shots. Yes, but they were on him like glue. I mean, he maybe had one or two he could have taken that he didn't take, but they, I mean, they clearly, their game plan was Kobe Bray is not going to beat us. Like, we're not going to lose.
Starting point is 00:22:03 So if somebody else does, I mean, they probably didn't think Colin Chandler was going to do what he did. Probably don't think Amari Williams is going to score, what? 17. 17 and not miss a field goal. But they were not going to let Kobe Brea be. I love the fact that he came out and took the first shot. I mean, you know, he's got to do that. He's got to be a little selfish and can look for his shot.
Starting point is 00:22:22 And I really tried to watch him last night. You know, when he's coming off his screen, he's trying to get open. They're like hanging on him and pulling on him. They're on him. Like, they're not, they do not. They would sag off every other player, including all Menor, who was three for four, but they were not leaving Kobe Brea. Yeah, Pope mentioned that in a post-game show,
Starting point is 00:22:40 either after Texas or the one before that. Someone asked, you know, White and Kobe getting open, and he basically said they are not calling this stuff off the ball. I mean, they're holding, they're grabbing, they're doing everything they can to keep him from getting open. And one of the things again, this is good coaching by Pope. He would, when he got the ball on the block to Carr and Williams and isolate him, he would put Kobe Brea on that side, and then he would take everyone else to the offside. So the defender had a choice, either go one-on-one with Williams and Carr or double down from Brea,
Starting point is 00:23:10 but then leave Brea-wide-open, and they just let him go one-on-one. and then we were able to finish, so it worked out. And our guy, Jacob has a story up. Kentucky is 10 and 0 when Brea has 10 points, and they're 10 and 0 when he has 3-3s. So to the point we keep bringing up. No pressure, Kobe Brea, but if you'd like to score 10 points. We win or lose based on you.
Starting point is 00:23:29 All right, so this is the clip of Peter Burns being, you know, a jerk last night on the halftime show. Go ahead. Look back to SEC, halftime report. All these teams right now are on the bubble. SMU looking good. VCU. looking good. North Carolina looking good.
Starting point is 00:23:45 Nebraska right now, they're on the phone. They look worse than Matt Jones his hair style about 10 years ago. 70 to 40. He said, have you seen that thing? It's trending on Twitter right now. I don't think I want to it. It would be monstrous for all. Have you seen that thing? Have you seen
Starting point is 00:24:01 that thing? Like it's a weave or something. And like Patrick Young, Patrick Young and, was that Pat Bradley? What's his name? Yeah, Pat Bradley. Just sitting there laughing in the background. Patrick Young doesn't even know who. I've said nice things about those two guys. The one guy goes, I don't think I want to see it.
Starting point is 00:24:16 I don't think I want to see it. I was watching halftime, and I thought I heard it. I thought, did he just say Matt Jones had to rewind? Let's do again. He got you. Peter Burns you there. I was the one that posted it. Now, to your point, that was the hair I had when my mom saw me on ESPN and said, if you're
Starting point is 00:24:34 going to be on television, you need to get a haircut. And I didn't like, this was as I was walking out of my first ever ESPN appearance. I was so excited to call my mom and tell her, and that was her answer. And I got really frustrated at her. I was like, I was just on ESPN, that's what you're going to say? And she was like, I'm just trying to help. Mom, my boy's going to be mom. She was right.
Starting point is 00:24:57 And it took me a while. It took me a while. Did you immediately get it cut after that? I mean, I had some pride. I was going to keep it for a little while. But it's, you know, you start looking in the mirror and you go, that's the look. I remember when we first met when you started coming to the Tubby News conference.
Starting point is 00:25:12 conferences way back in the day. Hair, shirttail hanging out, stuff hanging out of your backpack, big floppy coat on. Yeah. Well, you know, we had a person text and text machine and say how many people can say they look better at 46 than they did at 29? True. That is true. Yeah. But it also isn't a good testament for 29 that that's the case. A lot of people, a lot of people peek too early in life. You're still climbing that hill, buddy. That's right. That's right. I did not peak too early. I think that picture was very close. Oh, you at 65. Look out. Yeah, you're going to be Clooney.
Starting point is 00:25:49 Be the hottest 65-year-old in the world. All right, so 859-280-2287. How was the crowd last night? It was good. It wasn't all the way, all the way full. Always looked at the two end zones to see if those get full. It wasn't all the way to the top. But I think there's something about these snow games. People that go, they feel like they earned it. So once they're inside and beat the weather,
Starting point is 00:26:11 and, you know, a lot of people are getting tickets that other people didn't want, getting them on the secondary market. It was a very excited crowd. Just I wouldn't say, it's not in the category of some of the others we've had this year, but still very good. I had a person trying to climb to the game,
Starting point is 00:26:24 fall down my yard and slide. Oh, no. I heard a, and I looked, and there was somebody at the bottom of the hill, and I could trace through the snow where they had slid. Some of these people, by the way, Don't cut through my yard. There are people who cut through my yard, and one of them ended up absolutely flying down the hill.
Starting point is 00:26:47 You know, maybe he should have known not to climb a hill covered with snow and wet snow and ice. You know, and it's 15 degrees outside. Did you see what happened at the North Carolina game? I don't think I saw this. So North Carolina had a snowstorm leading into the game. And so, you know, you think we don't handle snow well here. They really don't handle it well there. and it was North Carolina NC State.
Starting point is 00:27:11 So I guess a ton of people just weren't going to go. Plus, they've been having bad attendance this year. So they made the decision. They just opened up the building. And they said, if you can walk here, you can come in. They still, by the way, didn't even come close to filling the building. But what they ended up with was a game of pretty much all students. Uh-huh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:33 So, I mean, the court was surrounded by students. And then the president got on the mic and said, hey, thank you all very much for coming. Got some news for you. No class tomorrow. And the place just bust out. And they had probably their best atmosphere in a decade, beat NC State by 30 because of the way they did. We've talked about Chapel Hill, that is like it's not a good environment for college basketball. They need to do something like that.
Starting point is 00:27:59 They may have stumbled on something where they realize, hey, we can make this a special place to play by putting the students around the court. And even though they won big, where that was probably the loudest pop of the night was the no class. Yeah. So that was kind of, if you watch that, that's kind of a cool thing. Who's up first, Shannon? Let's go to David. David, go ahead, David. Hey, good morning, guys.
Starting point is 00:28:18 Thanks for thinking my call. I loved, I had to watch the game last night, but I loved how on the SEC network, you can actually hear the crowd a little bit better now. They even had a little segment on the environment, and I think they had Rupp Arena at Second, which was frustrating, but I'll take that, I guess. I think that's fair, though. I think if it was it where we second to Auburn? I think that's fair, to be honest, if you're just talking about in-game environment.
Starting point is 00:28:46 Sure. I was actually calling in. I've been wanting to call in for a while, and it usually can't because we're in school. We've got 30 seconds real quick. I was just going to say, Jay Williams, when he was speaking to you, asked if he thought you represented BBN, and you kind of dodged that. I think you should have answered yes, absolutely. How many weeks go by without multiple people calling saying first time, long time?
Starting point is 00:29:10 This is a show where BBN calls in constantly, and I think you can take heart in the quality of what you guys do, that yes, I think it is an accurate representation of who we are. Well, I appreciate the call. I think this show most certainly represents BBN. Does Matt Jones in particular on some things? I think it's true on other things. I probably don't, but the show without question.
Starting point is 00:29:36 T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Underappreciated Hate Jr. song here, Shannon, right? Charlie Daniels band, right? Okay, same thing, even more underappreciated. That's how underappreciated.
Starting point is 00:29:54 It's so underappreciated, I thought it was Hake Jr. You're trying to give it to somebody else. It was a Hank song. Charlie Daniels. knows devil went down to Georgia, but what other songs does he have? Long hair country boy. Well, you got this one, which I thought was Hank Williams Jr. So who else?
Starting point is 00:30:09 Anything else? I mean, if you get a devil went down to Georgia, you don't really need anything else. Like, that's a legendary song. I'm sure there's maybe one other one, but I can't think of it. I think he had one in like the 90s that became a hit, but I can't remember what it is. All right, let's talk about a couple things here. Hockey tonight. We don't talk a lot of hockey on this show unless I'm saying my Carolina Hurricanes.
Starting point is 00:30:30 But tonight, maybe the biggest hockey game, and who knows how long for people care. In USA and Canada, I'm not sure. When's the last time? I mean, first of all, are you going to watch? I want to watch just the beginning of it to see if they fight like they did the other day. But you don't want to know if we win? I mean, this is for the championship of whatever this thing is that we're playing in. Yeah, I want to see who won, but I don't think I want to sit there and watch the whole thing.
Starting point is 00:30:56 See, I bet you it's going to be a great crowd. I mean, it's in Boston, which is a hockey town. The Canada guys seem to be taking this unbelievably seriously. Like, they're taking this as a, you know, Trump wants us to be the 50 first state. We're going to show them we're better. The U.S. clearly wants to fight. We started three fights in the last game, so clearly we want to fight. Like, I think it's going to be awesome.
Starting point is 00:31:22 Are you going to watch it? I'm absolutely going to watch. And that's coming from someone who I couldn't tell you the last time I've watched hockey. Yeah. I've never sat down and turned my TV on and watch hockey, but tonight I'll make sure what, 8 o'clock, ABC, I think. 8 o'clock ESPN. 8 o'clock ESPN.
Starting point is 00:31:37 I think it's going to be great. I'm going to watch it. Go USA. You think we boo the Canadian national anthem? We should. I don't know we boo the anthem, but yeah. They booed us. They booed our anthem.
Starting point is 00:31:48 We can boo them. Hockey fans are a little different, so I bet they do. I'll be booing from my couch. I think you boo. You boo the anthem. I mean, they booed. Like, it's a song. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:58 Give it back to them. Give it back. I mean, it's fun. It's like sports hate is not the same. Like, if they were burying a Canadian soldier and you booed it, then you'd be awful. But it's a sporting event. And it's like wrestling. It's a sporting event.
Starting point is 00:32:15 When the Mountie came out with this Canadian flag, you boo. That doesn't mean you hate Canada. So I think it's all right. Especially since they booed first. You know, if we were the first to boo, maybe there's a debate. But we owe them a boo. I didn't even put syrup on my food. pancakes this morning all out on Canada today. I'm not getting rid of syrup. I'm not getting rid of
Starting point is 00:32:32 syrup. I think we can have whatever wars with maple syrup is good. It is good. It is really good. We're not getting rid of syrup. But yeah, I'm watching. I think it's going to be exciting. It's been good for the sport because when else do we, the country kind of pay attention to hockey? Not very often. Very rarely does the whole country care about an event like they're going to care tonight. So it's the four nations face off championship, which doesn't seem like a real thing, but we're going to do it. Now, let me give you the schedule in UK sports coming up the next four days. There's something every night, okay? So tonight, UK women play Missouri at 730. This is the last game against an unranked team Kentucky plays. They finish with Tennessee, LSU, and South
Starting point is 00:33:18 Carolina. That's tough. So they finish with quite a run. So they're going to play Missouri. Then Friday night, LSU women's gymnastics comes to Lexington. The return of Livy Dunn to Lexington at historic Memorial Coliseum. Last time she was here, they had to have security, and the line was out the door to get into that event. I would assume, that was at Rupp. I would assume it's going to be even more here this time, right, since it's at Memorial? She still does it, right?
Starting point is 00:33:46 I don't even know. Does she still? Yeah, she's still in it? Yeah. Okay. I mean, I'm not sitting down and watching LSU's matches, but I'm pretty sure, yeah. Yeah, and then Saturday, of course, we play Alabama in basketball. then Sunday, Kentucky plays, is it LSU?
Starting point is 00:34:00 Who do we play Sunday in basketball? LSU? I think the LSU is the first of the three biggies. Sunday is LSU here in Lexington. So in Lexington, you've got two, we've got the road game against Missouri women. We got Livy Dunn tomorrow and LSU gymnastics and on our team, Alabama Saturday, and LSU basketball with Kim Malky and whatever she decides to wear on Sunday. And if you want to fill in the spot set,
Starting point is 00:34:26 home baseball's away at Belmont and softball's also away but you can watch those too on SEC Network so a lot of stuff we're going to have just so you know the tribute and I at the bar we will have both the hockey and the women's basketball game on as well and then for those of you going to either the gymnastics or the women's basketball this weekend we'll have will be open here before and after I would suggest to you parking at Memorial has become absolutely impossible I mean like not just impossible Uber impossible. Just park in our lot.
Starting point is 00:34:59 I'm just telling you. Like it's a walk, but it's going to be better. You try to park somewhere else? You're just going to be walking just as far through neighborhoods. Yeah, after a game, you look, there are people walking blocks and blocks and blocks to get to the car because there is no parking around that arena. You might as well just park here. I mean, honestly, it's as easy as anything else. Who's up next?
Starting point is 00:35:15 Jordan. Jordan. Jordan. Hey, Matt. I just wanted to get your guys's thoughts on the roster maybe that we're looking at next year. So as far as, like, I'm thinking probably at Caden Lewis and Jasper is going to be our starting guards. But what do you think the chances of O.A. is back. And then also, do you think that our best bet is probably to go for two transfers as far as our bigs in the portal?
Starting point is 00:35:39 I would bet you a lot of money our starting guards are not too fresh. I'm just, you know, I think Jasper will start. I'd be very surprised if Caden Lewis starts. The way Mark Pope's system is and how hard it is to run, we're not. starting two freshmen in the back court. So, you know, I don't know what they'll do. If O-Way comes back, I'm certain he's starting. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:03 Right? And if Kirk comes back. I don't think, I don't know if he'll start, though. He didn't, I mean, I, maybe, maybe, but I would be, I could see Jasper and O-Way starting. Appreciate the call. If we get O-Way back, do you think Garrison is back? I actually wrote a little bit about this on the board last night.
Starting point is 00:36:26 I don't think, even though he has potential to make a big jump and can be the player of Pope wants him to be, I think it would be a little too risky to go in with just him and Marino. I don't think. Because if he doesn't make a jump, then I think you're in trouble. He's been disappointing, in my opinion. I think they have to go out and get a big and a point guard for sure. I don't think he's improved a lot during the year.
Starting point is 00:36:47 And I think the biggest drop-offs this team happens is when Amari's out and Garrison's in, which is unfortunate. But I think that he, I think that's, you know, I think that's, I think it's just true. I think the biggest drop off that takes place for our team is Amari and Garrison out. Garrison in Amarion. I think Garrison comes back next year and he's a big player. But I think Drew's right. I think they go get another big in the transfer portal, a big, you know, fifth year guy that can come in and maybe push people around a little bit because Malachi and Brandon is not that kind of guy.
Starting point is 00:37:17 There are some reports, by the way, that Nate Amit, that we may now have the largest, NIL offer, and so maybe you could end up with him. If you have four freshmen, maybe Pope's going to end up playing more freshmen than we think. And then we don't know, I assume Noah and Perry will be back. I kind of thought Chandler wouldn't, but then after last night, maybe he will. I don't know. Yeah, those three, I mean, you'd think the Kentucky boys would want to stay here. Who knows about Chandler?
Starting point is 00:37:42 But I still think he has to go out and get a guard with experience that can play a little defense. Definitely. I know we all like Kerr. I don't see a world. I don't know where you put Kerr. I don't know where he would go. I don't either. I don't expect him on the team next year.
Starting point is 00:37:54 I'll just say that. You know what? It's interesting you say that. I don't either. He's also a guy who has transferred three times since you've had NIL. He could probably go get a starting role somewhere. I was told to watch a former coach of ours with Kerr. Really?
Starting point is 00:38:11 Yeah. Joel Justice. I was told to watch the guy up in New York City. That's great because, you know, Pope has said many times he's tried to get Kerr like three times and finally got him. I think he'd like, I don't know, I think he'd like to hand it over to him next year.
Starting point is 00:38:26 But you need defense. Kerr's good with someone that can guard like a Lamont, and they don't have a Lamont with the freshmen. Just watch, just watch the Johnnies. Watch the Johnny's. Watch the Johnny's. Oh, the Johnny's.
Starting point is 00:38:37 What did you think? What other former coach of ours in New York did you think I was talking about? I didn't hear New York. She think I was talking about, like, the coach at Fairfield or something? Why not? Caliparie would not want Kirkry. No. Calipari would kill.
Starting point is 00:38:49 By the way, did you see what happened last, Well, with Z last night? Yeah, I did. What happened, Z? 0 for 10? He hits any of those. They might win the game. Let's hold on because I've got to talk about it.
Starting point is 00:38:59 There was a cow freaking out moment on Z that was, it took my memory back. The Richmond Road Vet Clinic, BBN Pets. I'm talking. Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it.
Starting point is 00:41:06 And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross. Because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro.

Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter. what? He's the smartest player
Starting point is 00:41:54 to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows, without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't
Starting point is 00:42:09 have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stopped by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing.
Starting point is 00:42:26 That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. I'm drinking my baby goodbye.
Starting point is 00:44:09 That's right. This is the one. I think he put this out. Maybe he put it out in the 70s too, but there was a version in the 90s, and I remember that. Nineties country, you know, that's my thing. Dude, I never doubt you. And you can come up with the most obscure artist of a... of a song I've ever heard of.
Starting point is 00:44:25 And it's so terrible now, and I loved it then. 8.59-280-2287. So real quick, Cal had Big Z. He went 0 for 10 from the field last night. O for 9 from 3s. My man missed nine threes, including he took the two shots at the end. They were down 3. He took the shot to tie, missed it.
Starting point is 00:44:45 Then they were down 6. He took a 3 and air balled it. Cal lost his mind at Big Z at one point when he did. and box out on a rebound. I mean, Cal called timeout. I thought he was going to explode. It was not Big Z's finest moment last night. And he's been so good for them lately. I think going into that game, he was like 11 for 17 in the three games before it, and he just kept missing after miss, after miss. And I got admit, I watched Cowell's press conference. I haven't done that much this year just to hear
Starting point is 00:45:17 if he'd say, I don't need you to make them all. You just can't miss them all. I thought it was coming, but he left me hanging there. I had a hundred-dollar. They almost won at Auburn. They lost. That won't hurt them, but they got a couple. They got a decently easy schedule coming up, but they're going to probably have to win like three of the five games to get in. Shannon, I just saw that Delta, all right, so this is an interesting question. Delta Airlines is offering every person that was on that flight that flipped over.
Starting point is 00:45:46 They're offering them $30,000, no questions asked. They don't even have to waive their rights to other lawsuits, which, you're offering. really surprises me. I mean, that's, it's kind of a, like, people are, people are crushing Delta online saying they're offering them a measly $30,000. If they're really not making them waive their right to other claims, I actually think it's kind of a nice thing to do as crazy as that sounds, because if you can, by the way, I don't think lawsuits against, I don't think it'll work for reasons that are beyond the,
Starting point is 00:46:23 But just off. I actually think offered the $30,000, if I'm correct, that it's no strings attached. It's not a bad thing. Not bad. It's kind of a, please don't sue us. Here's some money and take this and be happy with it. But you can still sue them if you wanted. Right, right.
Starting point is 00:46:37 But I think that's in their mind. Like if we give them $30,000, they'll be less likely to sue us because of that. So I'm sure those do have some lawsuits. Yeah. I don't think they'll win the lawsuits for, again, a variety of reasons that are too long for this show. But I actually see these headlines like, oh, Delta's meager 30,000. I mean, think about it. There were 190 people on the flight, right?
Starting point is 00:47:01 So that's going to be $3 million, what, $6 million that they're going to end up paying? I know that's not a ton of money, but they don't have to give them anything. So I don't know. Why wouldn't you go ahead and take it if you can still sue later? There are some people that are in the hospital. They got hurt, seriously hurt. I'm sure that's a different story. Well, now, they might be able to suit.
Starting point is 00:47:24 People who have actual damages, they actually might have a claim. I think it's going to be really hard for people that were just scared. I think that's just going to be a hard lawsuit. But the people in the hospital, that might be a little different. Go ahead. I'm going to need a little money for my lawsuit for throwing Billy's phone down the runway and breaking his nose as we're getting off the plane. That will cost me a little bit.
Starting point is 00:47:46 Drew, not one person in this bar last night was on Billy's side. I mean, people just kept coming up to me going, I would punch Billy right in his face. Like Billy had me the most unpopular take of all time yesterday. So would my $30,000 give me out of jail and cover those legal fees too? Because I'm going to need a lot of money for that also. I'd have a lot going on in that situation. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:07 Shannon, is Billy getting a little, I heard him barking at you today? Yeah. Like, what's happening with him? Does he need a break? Maybe so. I asked him a simple question. I said, how much money do you think you would need to have in your bank account to where you could just retire?
Starting point is 00:48:21 and go on vacation the rest of your life. He goes, and his answer was, well, you know, I'm a lot younger than you. You're a lot closer to Social Security than I am. You'll be dead before me. I'm going, good grief, dude. That wasn't the question. Wow. That seems like a unnecessary shot at you right there.
Starting point is 00:48:35 Okay, you're killing me off already. Damn. Yeah. Okay. And it's a good question, though. I like that topic. How much money, if I offered you a certain amount of money to never do anything again, what would that money be?
Starting point is 00:48:46 You can't ever work again. You just have to live off what I give you for the rest of your life. What would you take? I mean, a million sounds good. But a million is not what it used to be, man. It won't go that far. But I'm 58 years old. I've got 20 years left.
Starting point is 00:49:00 A million probably do me pretty good. You think you're going to die in 20 years? I mean, that's probably average. How much do you think? I like that guy right there and went, yeah, he probably is. That was, that was, I like that was a little harsh. Yeah, but, I mean, let's say you live 20 years. Divide 20 by a million.
Starting point is 00:49:15 Oh, I can't do long math. Long math? Yeah. That's not a phrase. long math is not a thing long division yeah long division long math it's 50,000 a year now of course you could invest and all that so i mean there's that but like 50,000 a year i can live on that easy yeah send her side of college and by the way 50,000 in 20 years is not going to be what it is today if you give me a million though i'm hanging it up like i'm good you're hanging it up i'm retiring i'm retiring you just done it's your buyout
Starting point is 00:49:47 He's done. He's done. Yeah. Interesting. Well, what about you? What did your amount? More than that. But I'm also, I'm 12 years younger than you are and might want a child or a person in my life at some point, a woman.
Starting point is 00:50:04 So, you know. Brian's also not helping himself when it comes to negotiating his salary. He says he's going 50 grand. Yeah. Now you just make more than that. That's right. Who's up next? Levi.
Starting point is 00:50:16 Levi, go ahead, Levi. Hey, Matt. I know you touched on it last night, but I just wanted to hear your thoughts about Amari Williams on the SEC now post game. Oh, that was great. Yeah, I'm glad you brought that up. So Amari Williams, you know, he doesn't say a lot,
Starting point is 00:50:36 but I think it's very cool that he went on the postgame with the SEC network and he brought up the flooding in eastern Kentucky. I mean, he's British, right? So, like, his connection here is not the strongest. He just got here a few months ago. But to have the forethought to do that, to talk about, you know, Heather from Pikeville called the show last night, and her house is flooded, and Darrell from Pikeville that calls that you all have heard
Starting point is 00:51:01 for many years, his house is flooded. I mean, we have a lot of people we know. And I thought Amari bringing that up, Drew, was just a really classy thing for a young man to think about in that scenario. Definitely. He just had one of his best games the year. I'm sure basketball is really on his mind at that point, but he still took the time to mention that.
Starting point is 00:51:20 I'm sure he's been to eastern Kentucky a couple times, but if anyone on the team might feel the least connection being from Nottingham, England. So it was very cool of him to say that and just shows that the team really is thinking and really cares about this state. He's on a heater. He got the triple double, hit a three-pointer,
Starting point is 00:51:36 had the perfect game last night, and for him to step up in that platform and recognize what's going on in our state for somebody that does, you know, He's not from here, as you guys said. It hasn't been here very long. I think it speaks very, very highly of his character. Yeah, I did too.
Starting point is 00:51:48 I'm glad you brought that up, sir. Levi, I appreciate it. Who's up next? Let's go to Sean. Sean, go ahead, Sean. Hey, Matt. Glad to see you got some Tony Randall aspirations about having children late in life. I thought about defense.
Starting point is 00:52:06 I'm not that late in life. You know, come on. It's not like I'm Robert De Niro having a kid at 83. Like I'm still, I'm still, it's still parking. I mean, we can still do it. Well, that's too much. I don't know if you understand. That's not what I meant.
Starting point is 00:52:21 I didn't mean. What did you mean? We don't need to know about your purse. Everybody. Go ahead. All right. So, when Pope first took the job, there was some talk about, you know, we might get to see some of that Petino era style defense.
Starting point is 00:52:35 My question is, do you think with his offensive style that it's going to be hard to find players that plays his offensive style and still be able to get that. Yeah, maybe. I mean, maybe. But it depends. I mean, I appreciate the call. So, like, if he gets elite athletes, Drew, then he can get elite athletes to play offense and defense like Patino did.
Starting point is 00:52:57 But let's go back to the early Patino teams. They weren't good defensively. We gave up huge amounts of points. We just had to score a lot of points. When he gets the athletes, I think he'll have guys who can do both. Yeah, and I think that's why he's got to get a good guard in the portal and another big guy that can defend because defense needs to be a priority. Yeah, we'll take a break.
