This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Starting point is 00:02:50 Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio Wednesday, February the 26. I am Matt Jones here on a beautiful but a little slightly chilly day in Lexington, Kentucky. We are at the KS Bar and Grill. It is Wings Day, dollar wings all day. Mario is not awake because he was out partying last night, but he's here, and we're getting ready. Cats and the Sooners, the first game of Kentucky against Oklahoma in Norman. I don't know, ever.
Starting point is 00:03:18 Is this an ever game? Have we ever been played in Norman before? I can't imagine we have. I don't know the game that played in Norman. I don't think so, but we're doing it tonight. 9 o'clock, the only midweek 9 p.m. game of the SEC schedule. You can give a shout at Clark's puppet shop phone line 859-280-2287. A-Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-745-254 in this edition, sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office.
Starting point is 00:03:42 You call T.J. will make them pay. Ryan, Kentucky, and Oklahoma, the big news of the morning. Lamont Butler and Jackson Robinson both listed as probable to play, which is they go from out. They don't even hit questionable. Go directly to probable. and tonight we will see, well, maybe both of them, maybe neither of them. I kind of think I did a little scuttling last night. Butler's playing.
Starting point is 00:04:10 Robinson, they likely to play, but not certain. But I feel pretty good about Butler playing. You know, we thought all along the plan was sit them for a couple weeks, get them ready, so they'd be ready to go in March. Well, now I guess they feel like they'd at least get them on the court a little bit, especially if Jackson plays just a little bit. that's nothing but positive before March. I sort of read this Drew in two ways.
Starting point is 00:04:32 One, I think they feel better, well, obviously, feel better about these two guys where they are and also want them to get some action before the tournament. I also think maybe they think this is a big game tonight. Like I think there is a, hey, you know, this might be one we need to win. If we want to get the buy in the SEC tournament, if we want to keep a top four seed in the NCAA tournament, this is what we may need to win and we need our full group. Definitely. I mean, of course, you want to beat Auburn and Missouri.
Starting point is 00:05:03 You don't want to surrender to anyone. But for your tournament standing, really all you need to do is beat Oklahoma and LSU at Rupp next week. So I think they see the significance in this game, where they are in the standings and how important it is to win this one. And maybe they play a few minutes. I'm of the belief, just me guessing that it's kind of going to be like, let's see how it's going. And if we need them, we'll put them out there. And if we're playing all right, we'll happily let them rest a little long. I mean, it's dangerous because what if one of them gets hurt again?
Starting point is 00:05:30 People will question the decision. But, I mean, you can't just have them debut in the SEC tournament, right? Like, they got to get some legs under them. This is, you know, if you look at the schedule, this is the most swingy game of them, right? Like, you're not supposed to beat Auburn. You're probably not even supposed to win at Missouri, although I think we could. You're supposed to beat LSU. So this is kind of the most swinging game left where it could go.
Starting point is 00:05:56 either way. Did the spread come out? Two and a half. Kentucky? You said one and a half. So I think that's so I think you put those dudes in and then now you say we're going to go win this game in Norman. They're not sold out. I think it's like two tickets for $25 so I don't think we're going to
Starting point is 00:06:12 get the crazy atmosphere we get sometimes in these other road games. So I do think it's a winnable game. It's a big game for both teams really so that's why I can see why Butler and Robinson just as a competitor they want to play. They've been sitting over there. They want to get back.
Starting point is 00:06:27 It's their last season of college basketball. They'd love to get in there. So ease them in a little bit. But you're right. You know, last time Butler re-injured it, just dove on the floor after a loose ball. But you can't help that. I mean, that could happen either way. That could happen in practice.
Starting point is 00:06:39 Oklahoma, you know, they were undefeated in the non-conference, including winning the game, winning the classic down in Bahamas, where they beat Louisville, West Virginia. I want to say they beat somebody else good. They won like three difficult games down there. I watched them a little bit during that, and I've watched a couple of conference games. They are feast or famine.
Starting point is 00:06:58 Their guards either go off or miss every shot. And we'll just assume they're going to go off because that's what seems to happen against us. But they are feast or famine. They can put a ton of points up or they can score 50. Yes, they beat Michigan, Arizona. They had some big wins. Michigan was the other one. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:17 Their guard fears, he's an NBA freshman. He kind of went through a little lull in SEC play, but he was awesome in their last game. had like 20-something and 11 assists. So he's turning it on at the right time. Even Pope raved about him. You don't usually hear him talking about another player by name, but he had quite a bit to say about him on the coaches show on Monday,
Starting point is 00:07:35 so he's the player that need to stop. Yeah, he was projected for a little while to be a top 15 pick. He did regress when they got to the SEC, but he played well last week. Mississippi State, by the way, has lost two straight games by a combined 67 points in there, which is a huge, huge drop. That was big for us. Yeah, big for us.
Starting point is 00:07:55 All right, so let's talk, you know, look, we could break down the game, but that's what the scientific pregame show tonight at 630s about. It was occurring to me, Shannon, that we're playing Oklahoma, okay? Yeah. And in Kentucky, we've not really done anything Oklahoma-E. When's the last time we played a school from Oklahoma in basketball or football? I mean, who's the other one? Oklahoma State?
Starting point is 00:08:21 Well, you got Tulsa. Tulsa. Didn't, when Tashon scored 41 in St. Louis. He scored against Tulsa. Against Tulsa. Yeah. But my point is, I don't think we, as a fan base, have spent enough time considering the state of Oklahoma. Okay.
Starting point is 00:08:36 Right? So I want it today. No, I mean, this is going to be like an educational thing for our fan base. Let's just learn or talk about Oklahoma. So before we do any Oklahoma talk, the text machine is 772-7525-254, you can add your Oklahoma thoughts. When I say Oklahoma, what comes to your mind, Ryan? Let's just some Oklahoma facts. I'd say really the first thing I think of is college sports with Oklahoma and Oklahoma State for sure. That's the first thing you think of. Probably. And then the second thing probably
Starting point is 00:09:08 would be the Oklahoma City bombing. Okay. That's what I think what a lot of people do. That was what, 1994 maybe, something like that? That sounds right. Do you remember who did it? Timothy. I know. I want to say Dalton, but I don't think that's right. No, no. McVeigh, yeah. Not Timothy McVeigh. Yeah. And he's still the only person I think that's been executed by the federal government in like 30 years. I don't think.
Starting point is 00:09:35 Maybe did the Unabomber get executed? I'm not sure. I know. I'm pretty sure McVeigh did. And I don't think the federal government, I could be wrong about that, but I don't think they've executed anybody else. Did they execute the other guy too or was just Timothy McVeigh? I want to say the other guy did not. But what's interesting is nobody ever.
Starting point is 00:09:52 remembers the other guys. Yeah. What was the other guys name? Terry. Something. All right. Don't say no. Was it Dalton?
Starting point is 00:10:01 No, he called Timothy Dalton. Oh, got it on Timothy Dalton. There were a lot of people that died in that, weren't there? Oh, yeah. I've been to the memorial. It's powerful because they have an empty chair for each person that died in the explosion, sitting in the ground where the building used to be. So, like, on the first floor, there may be five chairs.
Starting point is 00:10:20 Sixth floor, there may be 11 chairs. and they're stacked like in rolls where the building used to be. That is really powerful. It is very powerful. Okay, so then the other things that come to mind for me, Drew, Toby Keith. Okay. That's a good news from Oklahoma. Oh, yeah, maybe the most famous Oklahoma fan.
Starting point is 00:10:37 Toby Keith. Shannon, good old J.R. Jim Ross. That was going to be one of mine, the voice of wrestling. The voice of wrestling was a huge Oklahoma fan. That stupid song, boomer sooner, boomer soon. The only reason that gets in my brain is one time in Vegas, I was playing Blackjack, and there were two like, like those women on the White Lotus, you know, like. Buddies?
Starting point is 00:11:02 Yeah, mid, you know, 40-year-old, hey, the girls are out in town. And every time they would win a hand, they would go, boom, resounder, boom, or boom, or in Blackjack, you win a lot of hands, and I wanted to throw them all off the thing. So that's me. What about you? Zach Bryan comes to mind because he has a bunch of songs of Oklahoma in the title A couple personal experiences, the haunted hotel. That's probably the first thing that enters my brain. It's right.
Starting point is 00:11:31 Stervin the haunted hotel in Oklahoma City, you're right. And that same trip, Russell Westbrook and I had a little back and forth while we were driving through Oklahoma. So those two are associate with the state. You were mocking his thirst traps. He needed his thirst trap to be mocked. I've never seen a grown man take that many pictures by himself. Yeah, wow, that's a good memory. Shannon, what about you when you hear Oklahoma?
Starting point is 00:11:53 Well, you've already taken two of mine, the Skirvin and JR. I will add in. That was also the trip we were in Oklahoma at the Thunder Game. Remember when you had the TV show and we weren't allowed to be on it in the background, Ryan and I could not be on there. Yes, I do. They had to like Photoshop like things over top of our heads so that it wouldn't be us. So there's a great picture of Ryan and I at the Thunder game.
Starting point is 00:12:15 And I don't know who it was. Maybe Daniel the camera guy at the time. He put like a photoshopped head over Ryan and I at the Thunder game. That's right. You were not allowed. That was a really stupid eye heart rule where when I did, Hey, Kentucky, where you all, they let me be on it. Right.
Starting point is 00:12:31 They let Drew be on it. But Ryan and Shannon is where they drew the line. That's right. No Ryan, no Shannon. And I needed you to do something so they put a fake head on you. Like they couldn't show Ryan or Shannon's face on WLA. cartoon heads on us. Yeah, you had cartoon heads.
Starting point is 00:12:49 We were at the Buddy Holly Museum when you guys shot the show? That was in Texas. We did it outside in Oklahoma City in a little park. In a park. All right. So then also, when I think of Oklahoma, Tulsa, makes me think of Tubby, right? Tubby was at Tulsa. Is that correct?
Starting point is 00:13:05 A lot of people don't know this. Joe and Kelly Kraft are, like, they're really nice, like, craft compound is in Oklahoma. Oh, it is. Like, their house here in Lexington is very nice, but, like, it blends in the neighborhood. Like, they live not far from Cal where he lived. But they have a state, like, an estate. And it's in Oklahoma. I've never been there.
Starting point is 00:13:31 They actually, on that same trip, they offered us to stay there. And I was like, I'm not taking these guys into your house when you all learned. But you took it to the Canadian embassy when they were living up there. Well, that was, I felt like you, I mean, there were police to take care of you. That was Canada. That was just going to be, that was just going to be me and. and us. There's also the musical Oklahoma.
Starting point is 00:13:51 Yes. It's like kind of a country western musical. I've never seen it. What's that? Cowboys and Indian, not Indians, but cowboys and rodeo people singing and dancing. But what's the? What's the? Don't know.
Starting point is 00:14:03 Is there a plot, though? I've not seen it. Then you also, Oklahoma has a lot of like Native American reservations, right? I know there was a thing. If you ever want to go down a rabbit hole. of like interesting. There was a thing where there were Oklahoma
Starting point is 00:14:21 so you know, Native Americans on their their plant reservations, like they, there are some federal laws that don't apply to them. They're almost like their own little place. And, well, they're federalized to apply. State laws don't apply.
Starting point is 00:14:35 So if you were to have a Native American reservation in the middle of Lexington, they have to follow federal law, but there's some Kentucky state law that they would not have to follow. They're like sovereign, ground. Right. And I believe there was some Oklahoma law. I'm not sure. Maybe it had something to do with abortion or something. I don't know. Maybe DUI, something. Anyway, the Native Americans were like,
Starting point is 00:14:58 we're not following it. Sorry. No. And they took them to court, and it went all the way Supreme Court like a couple years ago, and the Native Americans won. And they were like, they do not have to follow your state law. So now Oklahoma, I think, maybe tried to take some of the land back. And it's still a fight. Like, because it's a big. swathling it's not just like a street yeah and it's in Oklahoma but it's like kind of not in Oklahoma so I just I've always found that little thing interesting yeah Indian reservations are usually massive many many many many many thousand makers like up in Montana and South Dakota are massive massive I think this is a smaller one but it's in
Starting point is 00:15:35 Oklahoma I'm sitting away we're thinking Blake Shelton he'll be here tomorrow night and he's from Oklahoma you think he came I think he may come to the show today so we need if we need to beat him then we we and the crown can taunt him tomorrow. During the show. During the show. Like his buses pulled up yesterday. Oh, uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:15:52 Which made me think, Shannon, that's got to be a heck of a set he has if the buses get there two days early. Yeah. Got a massive stage set up. Would you say? Talking to me. No, massive. It's got to be two days early, right? My son's on the crew helping set it up and break it down.
Starting point is 00:16:08 I know he had to report today. Your son's on the... Gavin. Wow. He sees, he does that stuff, break, set up stages. You're a big stuff for like WWE too, right? Yeah. He did the, what was it, the Super Slam, whatever it was, in Indianapolis?
Starting point is 00:16:20 Summer Slam. Summer Slam. Summer Slam. I think you mean the Royal Rumble. Royal Rumble. It's not called the Super Slam. Yeah. That was a sale they had at Walmart.
Starting point is 00:16:30 And it wouldn't be Summer Slam in February. It was in January, and no, it wouldn't. Yeah, a Kanye concert when Kanye was like living in an arena, right? When Kanye came out in the middle of the arena and had like some costume one, you couldn't see his face. Yeah, Gavin worked that one. Well, there you go. Also think about the movie Twister. Is that based in Oklahoma?
Starting point is 00:16:48 It is. Big tornado area. Okay. Well, if you have other facts, I want to use that ultimately this show is here to educate. Sure. And we should learn about the state of Oklahoma. Do you know, what is the capital? Oklahoma City.
Starting point is 00:16:59 That's right. Also, Ted Kaczynski was the Unabomber. No, I know that, but he wasn't the second person on the... Well, we couldn't get the Unabomber's name either. No, I knew that one. I actually did know. It's Timothy McVeigh. What's the other guy?
Starting point is 00:17:11 It's Terry something. Terry McAuliffe? No, he's the governor. Oh, I think it is maybe. But he was the governor of Virginia. I don't think he did it. We have to look it up. All right.
Starting point is 00:17:19 859-280-2287. What town is Oklahoma State in? Norman? No, that's Oklahoma. Oklahoma State. Not sure. Still water. Still water.
Starting point is 00:17:29 Still water. Still water. I don't really have any Sooner's thoughts. Like, we're all naming the state. Do you all have any? Well, they're good at. They're good at women's softball. They like win it every year.
Starting point is 00:17:42 That's true. They do. Baker Mayfield. Yeah, Barry Switzer. I always think of Barry Switzer. And then... Adrian Peterson. Barry Sanders played at Oklahoma State.
Starting point is 00:17:53 But, yeah, that's all I got. 8-9-2-80-22-8. Best Oklahoma basketball player? Blake Griffin. I got two that come to mind. Well, see, actually, I wasn't even going to say him. But Blake Griffin should be on there. Trey Young.
Starting point is 00:18:06 Trey Young. And then what about Waman Tisda? Oh, that's a great one. Wayman Tisday. He was as dominant as anybody during that era. 5-9-2-80-2287. We will take a break. Be right back.

And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience
Starting point is 00:19:21 in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it, and we don't know when we've done
Starting point is 00:19:39 enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on Earth, or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person.
Starting point is 00:19:58 Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose. On my new podcast, Learn the Hardway. Open your free, Our Heart Radio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back.
Starting point is 00:20:29 Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levant this went to a billion-dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life.
Starting point is 00:21:02 Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer them? On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't.
Starting point is 00:21:35 Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't don't belong. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeke. The ability to show gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world.
Starting point is 00:22:02 Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHart Women's Sports. Yeah, there you go. This is Kenny Rogers' version of the song that is maybe my favorite Tyler Childers live. When he plays Tulsa Turnaround Live, it's the best thing he does. Now, he doesn't have it recorded, but live, this is the song I enjoy the most.
Starting point is 00:22:44 It's one of the veins that his neck pop out and he gets into it so much. He said, you know, the funky butt gives me the Tulsa turnaround. That's right. This Kenny Rogers was originally, uh, Kenny Rogers when he was in that weird band. What was it called? In addition, right? Or first edition. Not new edition.
Starting point is 00:22:59 First edition. First edition. Yeah. People, I didn't know that until Tyler Children's that, that Kenny Rogers was in a band, like a funkadelic. Yeah. Like, you know, I think like a drug addled band called First Edition. edition how many people know that do you think not there can't be many well our parents all know it did you know it yeah I knew it you knew he was in first
Starting point is 00:23:23 edition yeah you knew he was in like a funk band yeah like they look really an LSD drug-induced type band huh it's some weird song well they have that song that's in Big Lobowski right just yeah condition by condition was in my condition my condition is that's a Kenny Rogers song too I didn't know about first edition but I I would love him to perform with new edition. That would be a great concert. Just walked in to see what condition my condition was in. Yeah, that's a great song, too.
Starting point is 00:23:51 All right, so some more things. The Dust Bowl, you know, you've heard about the Dust Bowl. That was in Oklahoma. They call them Oakey's. Oki's. Remember from an Oki from Muskogee. Terry Nichols was the other bomber. And then what you would do?
Starting point is 00:24:06 Tiger King. We forgot Tiger King. I'm ashamed of myself. I got a guy to send me a fun fact. You can actually get from Oklahoma. to Kentucky driving through one state. What state? Missouri.
Starting point is 00:24:21 So you go from Kentucky to, okay. I never would have thought that. Is that like a really fun fact? I thought it blew my mind. My mind exploded. I mean, I guess that's interesting, but you got really excited. I did. I couldn't believe it.
Starting point is 00:24:34 I had to look it up on the map. Where did you think Oklahoma was? We've been there a number of times. I thought there's no way only one state connects to two where Kentucky's located and where they're located. I'll be damn. Crazy how maps work. You know what? Oklahoma is shaped like a frying pan.
Starting point is 00:24:53 I remember that when I was a kid. Brian Bosworth. Yeah. I think Troy Aikman is actually from Oklahoma. He played there. Well, didn't he, he started there, and then he went to UCLA, right? Yeah. And then Johnny Bench is apparently from Oklahoma.
Starting point is 00:25:07 I didn't know that. So there you go. I'm sure there'll be other things that come. Garth Brooks? Garth? Wait a minute, Gar's from Oklahoma? Oh, yeah. So we pulled out Blake Shelton and all those guys.
Starting point is 00:25:18 And before we pulled out Garth? He's right where he needs to be. You don't like, you don't like Gar? I did. It's a little weird. What makes him weird? He's just, everything is so dramatic. Like I watched a special on him recently in his interview.
Starting point is 00:25:30 I had to turn it off. I was like, no one talks like this in conversation. So you're anti-Garth. I love a good Garth song. Garth, he creeps me out a little bit. He creeps you out. Oh, I'll sing Garth with anyone. It's probably one of my top 20 artists.
Starting point is 00:25:43 played each year. But Garth the person, he's a little creepy to me. Oh, man, who knew you had an anti-Garves? I mean, he can see. He's got some hits, several hits, but it's just different dude. Most people just hate Chris Gaines and then like Garth Brooks. Yeah. Garth was a weird. That is weird. Chris Gaines was weird. Gar's a pretty good Saturday Night Live host, actually. All right, so let's talk about we have Butler & Robbins. What are the minutes? What's the minutes like tonight? Who's playing, who's not playing, is there guys that have been getting run to get no
Starting point is 00:26:17 run? Does Mark Pope now only play Amari? 17 minutes a game? Like, what do we do? I'd say Lamar gets more minutes than Jackson, and so those minutes then get taken away from Travis. Lamont. I saw on him Lamar on the post game show the other night. Kobe Braves.
Starting point is 00:26:33 So I think Butler gets definitely some of Travis's minutes, because Travis played what? 29? 29 minutes? He's not going to put. So the biggest change will be Lamont taking his minutes. Is that fair? Yes. Then what do we think?
Starting point is 00:26:47 Jackson takes a lot of what, Colin Chandler minutes? Is that kind of how you think it goes? I'm still confused on Robinson. You know, I'm taking Pope for his word, but he was like, Jackson's just now getting back to skill work. He just said that a few days ago. So if he was just doing that, not even practicing fully, I just can't imagine him playing a lot.
Starting point is 00:27:06 I hope to see him. So if I set the over under on Butler minutes at 20, what do you think it is? Oh, that's a good number. I'd probably say over. Okay, what do you think? I've got them at 17 minutes. So I'll go under. All right.
Starting point is 00:27:20 What do you say? That's assuming the game's going well. I mean, yeah, so I'm going to say that that's really the thing for me. If we're winning under, if it's really close comes down to the end over. That's what I would say. All right, what about Robinson? I was going to set it at like 15. I'll go under.
Starting point is 00:27:38 So do you think there's a chance he doesn't play? I think there's a chance he doesn't play. Okay. I'll go under. Yeah. All right, so who starts? I think you stick with the group. I think you do too.
Starting point is 00:27:48 I think you stick with that group of starters. I think Perry has a chance. You're starting Perry? Yeah, but I mean, Fears is a point guard, and he's going to be a tough guard. He's not quite Mark Sears that Perry just had to face, but I think you stick with what you've had the last few games and work Butler. I disagree. I would go Butler.
Starting point is 00:28:06 I would bring Robinson off the bench, but I would go Butler, Oway, Brea, Carr, Williams. In my mind, they'll do one of those hot starts again. It'll be 9 to 2 or 12 to 2. Then they'll bring the other guys in. But then Butler's part of the second wave, get them off the bench. That's if I were Mark Pope, but I also have no business being a basketball coach. No, you don't. I really don't.
Starting point is 00:28:28 Yeah, if he's going to insist on bringing in a second wave, I almost wish he would leave Robinson and Butler for that second wave so we don't get. We didn't talk a whole lot. Car played really, really well. And Leonmonor didn't do anything. You almost had a trillion. And he only played like 10 minutes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:45 But I think, honestly, no offense to Anzley Almanor, that's how it should be. I think Carr should be the one getting the minutes. Almanor should come in and hopefully, you know, be able to hit some threes. And he's just, he's good at what he does, but I don't think you want him to be a starter. Correct. Carre looks to be back. Yeah. I didn't know you hated Garth.
Starting point is 00:29:06 He always says nice things about you. Garth the person, not his music. Wow. All right. We'll take a break. Very back. KS. personal injury attorney. Call T.J., he'll make them pay.
Starting point is 00:29:15 Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Don Williams underrated country singer right here. This is a great song. Yeah, it is. I don't even know what it means to live on Tulsa time, but I always like this song. Don Williams got a good voice. He's kind of forgotten by history, but in that little air of country music that I like, he put it to stuff out. Well, we mentioned Garth Brooks and Blake Shelton, guess who else is from Oklahoma? One of your favorites. Reba.
Starting point is 00:29:44 How about this? Garth Brooks, Reba McIntyre, Blake Shelton, and Carrie Underwood. Carrie Underwood. That's a pretty good... Those are four superstars. Those are not many states.
Starting point is 00:29:56 You get outside of what? Tennessee, Kentucky, maybe Texas. You're not going to have too many countries. I mean... Yeah. If you're talking country stars, I mean, you can make a strong argument that Garth's the biggest male country singer ever, and you can make a strong argument that Rebaugh is the biggest male country singer ever, and you can
Starting point is 00:30:09 make a strong argument that Revenue. Reba could be, if not the biggest, the second or third biggest female singer, and they're both from the same state. That's pretty big. That's huge. I was surprised. Also, my doppelganger, Brad Pitt, and he's from Oklahoma. It's a big star.
Starting point is 00:30:25 You think he's your doppelganger? I would just say we look different, a little different. I'm enjoying. Wait, man, that's not what doppelganger means, though. Dopplganger means what to say. I was just trying to hype myself up. Brad's not better looking than me. We just have different appearances.
Starting point is 00:30:38 Oh, so you think you're either. You're equal, but it's different. Okay. All right. That's interesting. I'll give you another little facts. Somebody reminded me. Do you know that in around the turn of early 1900s, did you know that Oklahoma was black Wall Street?
Starting point is 00:30:58 Do you know this? No. So Oklahoma City was basically during segregation, Wall Street, or, excuse me, Tulsa, was Wall Street for, excuse me, Tulsa, was Wall Street for black businesses. and if you read about the massacre of 1921, it's a, I mean, the movie The Watchman and the book The Watchman has a lot to do with it. You should read about it. It's actually one of the underreported things in human history, but basically, or in American history, basically the center of black business in America was in Tulsa,
Starting point is 00:31:37 and they called it Black Wall Street. I didn't know that. I didn't know about the Tulsa Massacre, though. That's a very powerful story you should not read and understand it. I can name some Kentucky basketball players from Oklahoma. One we mentioned yesterday. Who's that? Kalinaizabuki.
Starting point is 00:31:52 Oh, yeah. And then there's two on the current team, Brandon Garrison and Jackson Robinson are from Oklahoma. That's why. Jackson's from Oklahoma. And we can throw in Daniel Orton for fun. Daniel Orton's from Oklahoma. All right. Well, 859-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:32:07 I'm going to give you a quick before we go, phones. I'm going to give you some teams that our fans care about, and it's going to be buy sale. You ready? Got it. Buy sell. Duke is a national champion. Buying. They've won their last two games by a combined total of like 80.
Starting point is 00:32:24 I'm buying right now. I'm selling. One, he'll slip and fall in a close game. Two, they just haven't been tested in the ACC. Shannon? Selling. They'll get upset by somebody in probably the sweet 16 round. I'm going to say selling to win the title, because I think those freshmen, they'll drop one, somewhere, but buying to be maybe the second best team.
Starting point is 00:32:43 They've gotten a lot better as the year goes on, and I know they're not playing anybody, but still they're still playing really well. All right. Buy-Sell, Tennessee is a Final Four team. Oh, come on. Sell. Never made a Final Four. Never made a Final Four.
Starting point is 00:32:57 They do it this year. No. That's why when they play around to golf, they play 14 holes, they never play them Final Four. They've got a good reaction in here. That was a sympathy laugh. Brandon's holding his gutty's laughing so hard. That was a sympathy laugh. Where did you hear that joke?
Starting point is 00:33:15 Actually, Drew and Corbyn said that to me. I used it in a speaking engagement one time. Oh, you had a rider for a speaking engagement. Yeah, that one joke. You're right. Well, maybe you should get some better ones. No offense to Drew and Corbyn. All right, so buy herself, Tennessee, Final Four?
Starting point is 00:33:29 I'm selling, and just yesterday at the baseball game, we were talking about how they were in the Elite 8 last year and how nerve-wracking it was that the joke almost went away, but we get to keep saying no Final Four is a little longer. All right, Shannon. I'm selling. They're going to win. I'm going to sell as well.
Starting point is 00:33:43 I just don't think they have enough offense. Buy or sell Louisville is a second weekend team. I can buy that. I'm going to buy it. You're going to buy it, okay. I'll buy it. I don't love it, but I'll buy into that. Sell.
Starting point is 00:33:56 They're going to get to the second round, but they'll be playing somebody higher-seated than them, probably, when they get there. They just, I mean, they haven't played anybody. I hate to say it. I like that Hepburn guy. Oh, he's great. He's been great, but I'm still selling.
Starting point is 00:34:09 What about you, She said? So they have them, I think, around a six seed, is that right? They'd have to be in 11. It would be like a 6 probably. Could get up to a 5. So they'd have to knock off a 3 seed. You know what? Three or four.
Starting point is 00:34:20 I'm going to buy. I think they get to the 3 16th. You're going to buy. So three Louisville believers, St. John's elite 8 team by herself. You know what? I'm going to buy that because they play defense like nobody, and that's what wins you a little close, close games in the tournament. I'll buy.
Starting point is 00:34:39 I can't believe I just went by on Louisville and Petino back to back. But man, they're fun to watch, and he's got them playing so well right now. I'll buy them to the Elite 8. I think they lose at that point, but I could buy them in the right scenario to the Elite 8, Shannon. Yeah, they just can't shoot the balls. They cannot shoot. But they are great defensively, though. They are great defensively.
Starting point is 00:34:59 Yeah, and they're on a roll. I'm going to go buy. I'm going to go buy. Buy or sell Arkansas wins a game in the tournament. I am selling that. We've known Calipari's track record here in the first round of any tournament. Sell, sell, sell. Now, they could play in the first four.
Starting point is 00:35:15 That's what I was going to say. Does Dayton count? In the first four, that would be winning a game. Is that plausible? I'm buying for that reason. I was already thinking it. They win in Dayton, get to the tournament and lose. They'll lose.
Starting point is 00:35:26 I'm going to say bye. I think they'll win a game in Dayton and then they'll lose. Shannon? I'm not even convinced they're going to make the tournament. They've got Mississippi State. They've still got to go to Vandy, but they've got Texas. I'm going to say sell. I'm going to sell.
Starting point is 00:35:39 Sell. All right. So you're going to zero games. There you go. Those are good. Yeah. Who's up first? Rees.
Starting point is 00:35:45 Reese. Rees. Go ahead, Reese. Hey, Matt. I'm a couple of days behind on the podcast. I apologize if you guys already talked about this. But that fan stake account you guys mentioned, they're doing something that I think they're kind of underestimating Big Blue Nation.
Starting point is 00:36:01 I did it this morning. So let me just say I'm out on fan steak. Not because. It's no real money, though. Yeah, but I don't care. I mean, like, the idea of this fans, first of all, if nay, day, meant chooses to go to college based on fake money from a fake account, like, then, you know, was that really what you want?
Starting point is 00:36:24 Just this idea of, I don't believe the idea of promoting people to give money on a, like, auction basis for players. I just don't think that's a really great way. to go. Now, I know like it doesn't really cost you any money and Louisville has really gotten into it. And if he picks Louisville, everybody's going to say it's because of
Starting point is 00:36:46 that, but it's not. I mean, does Nate Amit, does like he have a stake in fan stake? No, but I'm serious. Like, I don't, what do you think, Drew? Am I... I don't really, I'm not a fan of it. Also,
Starting point is 00:37:02 hopefully someone rated as highly as him is considering real things for his college decision, not this fan stake. It's still so weird that you're bidding on a player anyway. ESPN released their first 2026 mock draft this morning, and he's like the projected fourth pick in the draft. And so my view is, if you're the projected fourth pick in the draft, you shouldn't be picking your college decision based on which fan base
Starting point is 00:37:26 gives you the most $20 donations that aren't even real donations. That's why I was going to say what Drew said. The dude can get millions of dollars in NIL endorsement deals real, money, a real million dollars. It's fake money. What's he going to do with that? So I know Louisville fans, sir, Reese, are like, look, we're giving so much more, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But I just, for me, that whole system doesn't pass the smell test.
Starting point is 00:37:52 And because of that, like, there's no reason. I mean, it is clear that everybody wants Kentucky fans to get involved, right? Like, I think the whole thing is trying to get Kentucky fans involved. and for me, Reese, I just don't think it's worth it. That's fair. My thing is it took like two seconds to do, and if this account that's like trying to get people to pay for players, if they have to stake a million dollars in a native mint,
Starting point is 00:38:20 if like 30,000 people put $25, like not real $25, you put in an email and a phone number, you don't put in a credit card, and you just put KASR. You realize those words you're saying is why none of us will ever have privacy. anymore because you're like, well, all they're doing is I'm giving away this, this, and this. That's what they want you to do, right? And then like, it's not going to stop with this one. If it works, it'll keep going.
Starting point is 00:38:47 They want us, and I appreciate the call, they want Kentucky fans to be part of this. And I just don't think it would be great for college sports to this, to become the way you recruit players is who can bid on the most money. And what percentage is fans taking home with them? Because that's, they're getting a cut of whatever's happening here. Yeah. So I just, I'm not, maybe this will be the future. And maybe this will be what we have to do.
Starting point is 00:39:13 For right now, it just doesn't for me, Ryan, pass the smell test that I'm going to say, hey, our fans, go give this thing, whatever. Could, could that be legal if they were using real money? Well, anything's legal now. I mean, you can, I mean, like, I mean, anything. Like, like, I don't think in recruiting there's going to be anything. thing that's against the rules now. So why wouldn't that be,
Starting point is 00:39:37 why wouldn't that start doing that? Because I still think in the long run, it's not real money. You heard what that guy just said. If 30,000 of us per, you know how hard it is to get 30,000 people to do anything? Yeah, if I were one to get invested
Starting point is 00:39:55 and recruit, I would stick with the local collectives and going directly with the school and events and doing it that way. Even though it's just weird times, period, that we're paying for recruits. Still getting used to that, but this one feels a little sloppier than the other methods. It doesn't, for me, feel like the kind of thing that I, you know, think is how you should do it.
Starting point is 00:40:14 I do think draft kings, though, is how you should place a bet. I mean, last night, there were a lot of big, if you were like me and you liked Alabama, that was a small spread. That was over quickly. I did Luca and Kari overs in the Lakers Mavs game. But he didn't hit it, though, right? Well, he had a triple double, like, plus 110. Yeah, Luca was.
Starting point is 00:40:33 He needed 30. I actually bet the under on Luca. He had a good game, but he didn't get the 30. But you could do it at Draft Kings. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levant this plant to a billion dollar fraud. From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't belong.
Starting point is 00:44:26 Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladecki. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything.
Starting point is 00:44:49 Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts for wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of I Heart Women's Sports. I agree. Dolly? No.
Starting point is 00:45:11 She's not from Oklahoma. No. No, it's not Dolly. It's Reba. Oh, well, no one that's here. No, you in Oklahoma is the song. Yeah, well, forget that. See, you can't even tell Dolly from Reva.
Starting point is 00:45:23 You say you hate Reba. I did think for a second it was Dolly. She's basically Dolly. No, she's not. Don't even, you. You said it yourself. Riba's not Dahlie. You need to stop yourself.
Starting point is 00:45:34 Let me hear. Well, that's not, wait a minute. Go back to the beginning. No. That was, no. Is she singing with Dali? No.
Starting point is 00:45:44 That was not Riba at the beginning. That's Riba. I know Riba's voice. That's Riba. Go back to him with the beginning. Go back to where you started playing. See, she's singing with somebody. That's Dali.
Starting point is 00:45:57 That's Dali. That actually sounds like Dali. That's Dali. You apologize to be. I will not. I knew that was Dolly. I will take responsibility. I will not apologize. You tried to say it was Reba. I knew that was Dolly. You owe me an apology.
Starting point is 00:46:12 I don't know you anything. It says Reba McIntyre right here. That's Dolly. Sounds like Dolly to me, but you're the expert. See? Shannon tried to pull one on me. And I still was able to figure it out. Reva song. If it's not Dolly, somebody sounds exactly like Dolly. If Dolly is willing to work with Reba, then can you acknowledge that Reeva's great?
Starting point is 00:46:30 But I will put a million dollars that that was Dolly Parton at the beginning. Let's turn up. Now that's Reba. All right, well, we'll stop it because I don't want to. We have to do it. People on the podcast don't even hear any of this. What are they talking about? Why is Matt screaming right now?
Starting point is 00:46:51 Terry says Garth Brooks is such a phony. I agree with Drew. He called himself Mr. Trisha Yearwood once. Please. Well, he might be a phony, but what's really? wrong with calling yourself Mr. Trisha Yearwood? Isn't that? Like, he's just being, he's just like being nice to his wife, right? Yeah, I didn't even know about that. I don't even know how to articulate it, but in interviews just the way talks, it's like so dramatic. Everything is just this. I don't,
Starting point is 00:47:14 I know what you mean. I can see what you're saying. But, like, I don't think he's, like, a phony because he is, like, pumping up his wife. No, I don't. I mean, I could see you saying, I'm Mr. Abby Franklin. Yeah, that's probably what I'm saved in as her phone. Yeah, Terry, don't be so, like, masculine. Like, you know. I thought during the commercial break. You're Mr. Yoga Girl. I'm, I'll take that.
Starting point is 00:47:38 You're Mr. Dolly. I'm enjoying. I'm enjoying watching Tulsa King. I've almost got the second season finished with. You know, I didn't think about that. It's different. I think the Tulsa, we've seen, Tulsa King's a little different than Tulsa in real life. Maybe so.
Starting point is 00:47:50 Shannon, what did you think of the Southwest Airlines pilot that was landing? Saw another plane coming around. thought he was going to hit it and then came right back and got up out of the air. What did you think about that shit? I think the guy's a hero that wasn't a crash there. But man, like, what is it going on with all these flights and planes crashing and landing up and down?
Starting point is 00:48:12 I don't want to fly anywhere. Are we, is it really more dangerous in the last month? Or is it just we are paying more attention to it? I mean, obviously the crash was more dangerous because we hadn't had one. however many years. But it does feel like every day there's a new something. Do we think it's more dangerous or like our attentions on it?
Starting point is 00:48:37 It does seem like the near misses are happening a lot more often than usually. They usually happen. So after the crash, they happen on the helicopter hit the airplane. I read this one story where said the air traffic controllers industry is so short-staffed. Like instead of doing two jobs, one guy's doing two jobs, instead of two guys in there, and they're in the tower. See, okay, not to get everybody all worked up. But, like, a lot of these jobs in the federal government are not the, like, most high,
Starting point is 00:49:11 like, exciting jobs to have. And we just get rid of a lot of people. You've got to make sure you're going to be able to replace them, right? So I do worry about that. But at the same time, again, maybe this happens all the time, and we just don't have the videos and everybody's paying attention. I just don't really know the answer. I don't think this happens all the time.
Starting point is 00:49:28 You don't think it happens all the time? I think we would definitely hear about it if so. The crash obviously doesn't happen all the time, but what about the near misses? It seems like there's a lot more. I'm the opposite of you and Shannon. I've not one time had any anxiety about flying, but I'm telling you right now,
Starting point is 00:49:42 I'm going to Cancun this summer, and I'm probably going to drive. I'm going to drive to Mexico. Yeah. This is the first time I've ever been like, do I really want to fly anytime soon? Because it just seems there's been more. The numbers might show different,
Starting point is 00:49:54 but I've seen a lot more video than I've seen in the past. Here's what I've thought in the last few months. I think there's a lot of things that we rely on the government to do that we just don't think about. We just like assume they're going to happen. And then all of a sudden when they don't happen, you're like, whoa. You know, the FAA is one of those. Like I've always just taken for granted this idea of like planes not hitting each other.
Starting point is 00:50:21 you know and maybe it's just been clear in the last little bit that they can if you're not careful so this latest one would have been awful if that pilot hadn't seen that and pulled up i mean that whoever that was deserved out to whoever that pilot was who's up next shanette bruce bruce go ahead bruce you guys can't forget good old jr from wbbf from oklahoma we started with him that's the thing you got to hear all of it but if you start later then you go ahead the uh i was going tell you guys, we've been here setting up the state wrestling tournament being you this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park is the girls and boys, Kentucky High School State Wrestling tournaments. We'd love to see everybody come out.
Starting point is 00:51:02 Wait, there's a, I didn't know this. Hang on just a second, Bruce. Just slow down. There's a girls' high school wrestling tournament? Yes, sir. This is the second year.
