Okay. Running a nah! Steph Curry announces he is going to take on the role while he plays for Golden State as the assistant GM for Davidson basketball. And he will also be donating over $10 million to NIL for Davidson over the next 10 years. Wow. Or over the next five years, excuse me. And will be assistant GM to help. in the targeting and recruiting of players.

How about that? Wow, at a place like Davidson, that's huge for somebody. I mean, you got to think of, I mean, how many schools in Davidson's league? I guess they're in the A-10 now, but I mean, I'd still say, even if he gives a million dollars a year, Drew, he's going to, I mean, they're going to have more NIL funds than most of the teams they play against. And then you have Steph Curry as your GM? Like, that's pretty big for Davidson basketball, don't you think? Heck, yeah, I mean, say kids down to three schools.

All right, Steph, pick up the phone, make one call. I'd say he could have a lot of influence on that. And helping with NIL, you know, he's got his own shoe. There's several ways he can give them a big bump. Yeah, I hope that keeps coming, Shannon. I think we have some players that played. Yeah, the NBA. Yeah.

You know, Shay, the G and Gilges stands for general manager, Alexander, or something, you know. I'm going to be interested to see as a completely side note. As we get into the offseason, how Pope is managing this roster. And a lot of schools are hiring official GMs, and we don't really have that. We have kind of some people sharing that role, but it's not really their title. I'm going to be really interested to see what happens. I was talking to someone this weekend that's kind of familiar with the NIL thing that basically said, look, we've got the funds to be as competitive as anyone in the country.

The thing we don't know, Drew, is what the market is. Like, you know, the price for freshmen went up by a decent amount this year over last. Does it happen again with transfers and what does that mean? So I think it's going to be interesting to see. I think one of the things that maybe heard them with Caleb Wilson, we'll see what happens with Nate A. is that the price for these kids kind of went up in a way that people didn't foresee. it'll be interesting to see if that happens for transfers in college.

I don't see Drew why it wouldn't, to be honest with you. Yeah, and there's just so much more pressure to make sure you're hitting on the right guy. If you're writing it's checks as big as some of these guys are going to command. And then when it's coming down to the dollar, you're going to need something a little bit to give you separation. If everybody's just writing checks and the suggestion you just made about following Curry's footsteps, if we have Devin Booker helping out throwing in some shoes and making phone calls or Shea, you got to have something that set you apart

in addition to having the bank account. We can't Shannon have Reed Shepard calling and go, well, I'm kind of torn. Arkansas and Kentucky. I played in Kentucky, but I've got a really good former coach at Arkansas, so you do what you want to do. So what happens if one of our former players does that

for Calipari at Arkansas? I mean, it'll be bad. You saw what happened with Reed. It'll be worse, right? I mean, that's just, you know, guys, like these dudes that played here, You have guys like Willie who is like, I'm Kentucky, period. You're going to have other guys who do like Reed,

who sort of kind of tries long as Cal is the coach to walk the line. But what I would say to all these guys, just as a friendly thing, and obviously I'm biased because I'm a Kentucky person, but you've got a long life ahead of you. And John Cal Perry is not going to coach forever, right? and you got to be Kentucky first. Like, I'm not saying you don't help out your coach, but, like, you know, in 30 years, Arkansas is not bringing you in

if you didn't play there. They're just not. Whereas Kentucky is, Ryan, and so I just, you know, I get it. I get you love your coach. I don't even mind you going and visiting all that. But at the end of the day, you have one home, right? you have one home, and I hope they remember that because that really is ultimately the final thing. Yeah, it is interesting.

Some of these players, they do feel that. I think, like you said, Willie, other guys, I'm not so sure. You know, I don't know. I'm just going to throw him out there. I don't know if Emmanuel quickly has ever been back. You know, guys like that, some guys never come back, but other guys come back all the time. But life's long, right? Maybe they do when they're 45, you know?

I mean, there's life's like, you know, everybody's different. But I do think yes, to answer somebody's question, I remember if it was Drew or Shannon, if somebody came in and one of them became the assistant GM for Arkansas, I don't think our people would forget that. Although we did forget, like I think Drew, nobody's mad at Tyler Ullis, right? No, that's a guy trying to start a career and going to the best opportunity for him as assistant coach. I don't know whatever other offers he had, but in that case, following Cal to be a part of,

you know, Cal's got this big coaching tree out there. To be a part of that, I could see why he would have to follow him. I want to go out. I want to do a couple of little sports controversies and get your all's takeout. Let's start with this one. Shannon, LeBron confronted Stephen A on the sidelines before a Lakers game and basically said, keep my kid's name out your mouth and essentially said, stop.

He was mad that he was criticizing LeBron for his son. being in the league and all that stuff and he confronted him on the sideline. Fair or foul? I'm going foul on LeBron's part. Look, I'm not a fan of Stephen A. Smith, but LeBron, your son is in the NBA. It's not like he's picking on your kid who's in high school. He's now an NBA player. He's on the same playing field as everybody else in the NBA. So if he can be critical of LeBron, he can be critical of LeBron's son. Drew? Yeah, LeBron's way in the wrong. And this plays out exactly how we all expected when a year ago he's saying my son's better than half the league I'm going to do anything to play with my son he's set him up for this criticism where he's now in

the G league and he's doing all right in the G league but you're going to get talked about especially when LeBron built him up as much as he did without even having to do that so I think LeBron's absolutely the wrong. Brian he's a grown man he's going to have to live with people being critical of him for the rest of his career you don't have to call him out and get face to face like that Ryan you're a dad I know I think you guys may think that I may be taking LeBron's side, but I'm foul, just because, one, where it was on the sideline at a game, come on, man, you don't where Stephen A. Smith is. If you've got a problem with him, you can contact him some other way than doing it on the sideline of a game. And two, like Drew said,

Bronny's a grown man now. He put him, he chose to play in the NBA. He chose this route. And so you've got to be open for the criticism that comes along with it sometimes. Yeah, I agree with all of you. I mean, Stephen A, a lot of his comments, I think, go across the line about players. I think he's gotten way full of himself. With that said, You put your kid in the NBA, this is what's going to happen? Like, he wasn't ready. Not only was he not ready, you got him drafted to your team with the biggest spotlight. And this is exact.

This was so predictable. Like, this was so predictable. You cannot get angry for what you caused to happen. All right, let's go to the next one. Draymond, Shannon, and Carl Towns. Carl Towns missed a game against Golden State. Draymond goes on a podcast and says, I heard he's not coming because he's scared of Jimmy Butler.

because they had some difficulties when they both played in Minnesota. Turns out he was at a funeral, Carl Towns for a family friend. When Draymond's asked about it, he basically goes, oh, I didn't know that. Well, the Draymond and Baron Davis podcast will go on, right? Doesn't even, he says he's sorry that he had to go to the funeral, but did not apologize for saying it. I have strong feelings about this, but I will not spoil the pot.

Shannon, I'll let you go first. Yeah, Draymond's an idiot. He opened his mouth and put his foot right in there. I mean, you've got to know what you're talking about before you come on a podcast and just start ripping into somebody for missing a game. I think it's a horrible look on his part, and he should apologize. He's wrong. True?

One, this is big. I didn't know Baron Davis was on the podcast, so I'll learn that for this. It's going to go on. You mean Bart Oatmeal. That's his rap name, Bart Oatmeal, which I learned too. So I guess it's going to go on now that I know about it. But Draymond had a chance to give a good apology there. He sent some condolences, but then just blowing past it, not really taking it back and saying the show will go on.

Jerk moved by him. He could have handled that much better and shown a little more sympathy to the situation and admitted being wrong. Ryan? From somebody that says stupid stuff regularly and that stuff come out of their mouth that is really wrong sometimes. He, like Drew said, he had the chance to apologize and make good on it, especially since Carl's family friend who was a female, died young of. cancer i mean come on man show some compassion be a human being don't be such a jerk yeah uh you know he made the little comment whatever the worst thing that could happen is you get a you know something like that is why i missed i would shannon feel amazingly bad if i were draymond right

like if i made a joke and then it turned out so i would like follow over myself to apologize right i'd be like so sorry i'd call carl i'd like send flowers to the funeral i would feel really bad The idea that he just goes, well, I'm sorry. I hate that that happened, but then promotes his podcast at the end of it. That's one of the-sincere at all. That apology. And when you promote the show will go on, what a jerk. That is one of the biggest jerk moves I've ever seen.

And Draymond thinks he's Charles Barkley, right? Like that's what he thinks. But the thing about Charles Barkley is he can say stuff, but he's got a heart, he's empathetic, he's kind, and that's why people like it. Draymond is a jerk. And I thought that was, if I was Carl Towns, I would punch that dude in the face, right? Like, I mean, to me, that was an all-timer. You know, you make jokes sometimes.

They don't work, but you have to apologize. And to not apologize and then double down, I just thought was hideous. Last thing, Michigan State, it's senior day. I don't know if you saw this, Shannon. Michigan State beats Michigan. They have this thing at the end of senior day, whereas they walk the court, their players kiss the logo as they walk. It's like a tradition under Tom Izzo.

They're winning the game. They have the foul to do that. They walk off to kiss the court. Michigan players are standing on the logo, refused to move while they kiss the court. Then one of the other players comes for Michigan State and basically pushes the Michigan guys to get them off the logo in a fight ensues.

Who's at fault? The Michigan guys for standing on the logo or the Michigan State people for thinking people need to get off the logo while they kiss the floor. Michigan's wrong. You got your butt kicked. Get off the floor. I mean, I guess with Michigan players standing there, if Michigan State came up to kiss the logo, it would be like they were kissing their feet. Well, Michigan players say this is where we stand every free throw. Why do we have to move because it's senior day? Does that change your mind at all? I think you should, well, I think you should probably respect that tradition. But I understand, though, I do get it. You know, Michigan.

being contrary about the whole situation. What about you, Drew? I mean, they shouldn't have done it. This one doesn't bother me as much as our other two examples in this are you a jerk game? I mean, it's a rivalry. That's some good rivaling there. But what they lose by like 20?

I think it just makes them look worse that the outcome was what it was. I would have moved, but it doesn't upset me too much that they did it because that's part of being rivals. Ryan? Yeah, that's what I was going to say, man. You just got your ass whooped. You were getting down by 20 points. respect your opponent, man.

I said this about when the Auburn kids pulled the belt out. You got a level of respect you need to show your opponent a little bit. You don't be doing that on their home floor. No. I was actually okay with the Auburn thing. This one to me is different because the game's

going on and like you said, Drew, they're getting crushed. You know, they're down 20. It makes them just look petty. If they had won the game, I don't know, maybe it wouldn't have bothered me as much, but you're losing by 20 points. Like, you can just scoot off the logo it's okay now that one dude who just comes and like just chucks him shannon

i'm not sure that's okay either but uh but i i think you probably just get off the logo let them have their senior day moment we let the kid from missouri have his Shannon didn't cry but everybody else liked it yeah so uh i think it would have been okay who's next feral feral go ahead feral hey what's up uh first of all jaymond talks nobody likes him uh i know yesterday you were looking for people to comment on S-I-U-E. I'm from Central Illinois, and when we were growing up, that was known as, like,

Yes. But when we're wrong, we apologize. That's right. The only difference is we apologize. That's a big difference, right? You have to be a apologize. I'm going to say that's a huge difference. Joking about something you find out it's a funeral.

think whatever you thought you stop everything like you said and go out of your way. I think it's a little different circumstances. At that point. One person writes, Danny Hurley says last night on 60 minutes that half of his players would get the portal after this year. He was using his example, say what's wrong with college basketball. Well, get over it, Danny Hurley. Like, you know, that's the sport now. And if you don't like it, you don't have to do it.

Shannon, I know I've said this a lot. I am so tired of these coaches whining about the portal. It really drives me crazy. Nobody's making you do this, dude. Right. Go do something else. It's all the old school coaches. And, you know, to Rick Petino's credit, he seems like the one that has made it work.

You know, go look at the top teams in America this year. You have two different groups of people. Okay, you got the young guys who are new, who are making things happen. John Shire, Nate Oates, Mark Pope, etc. And then you got some old guys who've learned to kind of adjust. to the system. Rick Petino, Tom Izzo,

Bruce Pearl. So, like, you can make it work or you can just whine. But, like, the whining is so useless. It's not going to change. And, you know,

Jay Billis had a great point, I thought, in an interview, Ryan, he said, you know, these coaches all say it's the Wild, Wild West that people

can go do what they want. He goes, you know what else is the Wild Wild West? Life. Okay. That's true. You know,

life. That's what the market is. The market, for better or worse, the free market is the Wild Wild West. And like if that now it's happening with college basketball. And you, you know, there's a lot of different ways to do it. You know the two teams that spent the most money on NIL this year, Drew, Arkansas and Kansas. And they've both had disappointing years.

So it's not just about spending money. It's also Drew about how you spend it. And with Hurley, is he not the best bleeping coach in the, game, don't turn your back on me? Didn't he just say that a few weeks ago? He just said that. Hasn't he won two championships since the portal era started? Like, maybe you're just whining because you haven't figured it out this year. So you seem to like it up until this point. I get some of the frustrations with football coaches because they got to deal with like 85 people. But Shannon, you got a roster of 12 dudes. Like if you can't keep up with 12 dudes and

that's on you, man. Like how many, you know, it ain't that many guys. So like either handle it or don't. But the whining is just incessant to me. It drives me crazy. He's the whiningness whiner that ever whined, too. I mean, he is just obnoxious at this point. It would have been fascinating to see what would have happened here because our fans would have loved the winning, but they would have been like, dude shut up. It would have soured pretty fast, wouldn't it?

Yeah. All right, let's see who's made the tournament so far. High Point, Ryan, Tubby Smith's school, made the tournament for the first time in their history. Does that make you excited? It does, yeah, the fighting Tubby Smith, you know, they've been here in up recently when Tubby was there. So I kind of, I don't know, maybe feel a little fondness for a high point because that's tubby's old school.

Yeah, me too. And they'd never made it until that Lipscomb, who I feel like Drew makes it almost every year. They pulled an upset, but your North Alabama whatever's that I have the sweatshirt of. And now they're in the tournament as well. I think it's only their second time, though. Weren't they at another level? I mean, they've been a pretty good program.

That's right. They were at a different level. Yeah, they almost, they went to like the final four of the NIT, didn't they? a couple years ago maybe. I've got a little soft spot for Lipskin be in Nashville. We have friends that went there. I thought that was pretty cool for them to win. And then I saw their players break down crying at the end about going to the big dance.

I thought that was a cool moment. Drake is actually, they're in the tournament now winning the Missouri Valley, and they're really good. Like really good. They're going to end up being like an 11 seed, and you do not want to be the 6 that catches them. And as a 3 seed, if there are 11 seed, Mark Pope's probably going to have to play for them because they may end up being the team you play in the second round. They are really good. Omaha Shannon.

Yeah. The Outrunner's School. That's right. The beating up the trash cans. They make the tournament. I'm going to be pulling for them big. When the game was over, the A.D., the coach, and the school president beat up the trash can. The school president did a full frog splash on the trash can after the game.

And Omaha is in the tournament for the first time ever. They have become one of the most lovable teams in college basketball, all thanks to some OVW guys. So maybe they need to bring them on the road for their first game. How about the outrunners making Omaha America's favorite team? And then finally, on Friday, nothing blew my mind more than Ryan Lemon knowing Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. And they win the OBC after he gives them the bum. They make it first time they've ever made the tournament. as well, Ryan, are you excited about your whatever the name of that team is?

They're the cougars, the fighting cougars. Yeah, absolutely. How about that? Shannon and I talked about this after I pulled that out of my rear. We used to play them in baseball. They used to be Division 2. So we used to, Kentucky West and used to play them. Bellman used to play them. So I'm a little familiar with them. And then they used to be, they were in the OV for a while. They've been in the OVC conference like 15 years, I think, but I had no idea they were good. Well, they were good for the first time. We had their coach on my ESPN show. yesterday. He was a nice guy.

And we went through their famous alumni. They don't have many. The only one they had, Drew, was Catherine Madigan, who was on Last Comic Standing. And I don't even know who that is. But that was the only person of any note that went to that school. Sounds like Ryan Lemon might be one of their famous fans then. I like the story with the scissors with their coach. I don't know if that came up on your show.

We had him hanging in the locker room for six years. For six years, he had scissors hanging in the locker and said, we're going to use these one day. He got to use them Saturday night in the OBC files. That is cool. Who's up next? I do want to update you to on high points record. They're now 30 and 5, Matt, just so you know.

I just want to shout out my dad, Mike. He's listening to you guys for six or seven years. And I remember you talking about, like, a week or two ago about how, like, new people or new, like, younger audiences. And I'm a student at Kentucky. And the reason why the younger people are listening is honestly because of our parents. Because we're in the cars that our parents were young, listening to you guys. And then now that we're driving, I'd rather turn on the podcast instead of listening to music.

So I just want to shout out you guys and shout out my dad, Mike. Thank you very much. I think that is a big part of it. people, we now have listeners who grew up literally since they were little kids listening, which is crazy to me, that those people are now old enough to be in college or older, but I really, really appreciate it. 8-9-280-2287. Okay, so now the egg prices are the highest in history. Does that affect you at all? Yes, because I love, I love eggs. I love eggs. I'm on a hard-boiled egg kick lately. I don't know why, but I like hard-boiled eggs. And I think I'm going to go get a hen and have my own eggs in the backyard. I did see somebody on TV or like somebody with the government was like,

what should you tell people about egg prices? They're like, get eggs, get like chickens and hens in your yard. That's what we should buy stock in the house. I was like, I don't feel like that's a good advice, though. I don't need chickens in my yard. Does it affect you all, Drew, Ryan? See, I don't really eat eggs, so it doesn't affect me. Does it affect you all?

I had a lot of eggs. I went to Whole Food yesterday, bought some eggs, and, you know, had to make a little bit of a business decision there. I had to think about what was in the bank account. How much gas is in the car? Like, how much is an egg caught? Like how much are eggs now? What's the cost?

I got the Whole Foods brand yesterday. I think it was about six bucks for, for 12. For 12? So it's 50 cents an egg. Yeah. So 50 cents an egg now. That does seem like a lot for an egg. A lot of stores now have like signs up limit two cartons of eggs.

That's all you can take. Oh, they'll only let you buy two cartons? Who can afford more than that? So what do you have to do? I get kids outside to go in there with them. Well, you know what? I'm going to go in with three and say, well, you're going to stop me for getting three cartons of eggs? Yeah, I mean, you're going to be scanning yourself out anyway.

Who's counting the eggs? So what were they like, what were they like 10 years ago? Like, what was it like for 12 eggs like 10 years ago? Like $3, $2? Yeah, $3 and something. Even less if you get them on sale. Yeah, like the generic egg. Yeah.

I know people who live in like downtown Lexington, not really downtown, but inside New Circle that have chickens in their backyard. Yeah. Yeah, I've heard that. I don't understand why. Well, I mean, maybe this is why. They're way in front of this. Do they stink? I would think they stink.

I think the noise in the morning is the only inconvenience. Otherwise, just go get your fresh eggs whenever they're ready. Yeah. All right. Well, the Girl Suite 16. Ryan, let's quickly go through. You're going to make some picks, all right? It starts Wednesday.

Two teams from Western Kentucky coming up here. You know, I grew up as a Henderson rival, but their girls team has been good for a while. I'm going to pick them here, and their boys are knocking on the door after not been in Lexington from several years. So watch out for both Henderson's this season. Danville Christian and Davis County. I didn't know Danville Christian was a school. So you're going to pick them right?

Yes. They have won the 12th region the last two years in a row. They've got a really tall girl. She's like 6' 4 or 6.5. She's really huge. They're both boys and girls' teams have got some transfers from like Africa, and that's really changed their program completely. All right.

I went in Lexington a while back, and even with an appointment, it was way behind when I got there. So I thought I'd be kind of in and out, but it took a big chunk of the afternoon. If you have a passport, it's easier to get the passport. Why wouldn't you just keep your passport and not get the real ID?

Yeah, because I feel like I'm going to lose it. But I'll just do the passport. I mean, I'm going to. Like, it's a lot easier to get the passport than it is the real ID. You already have the passport, so I'll just forget the real ID. So, like, in the future, when you go get your driver's license renewed, will it be a real ID or do you still have to do something different? That's a great question.

I don't know the answer to that. Go to the website. See, these are the kind of things that the government should teach us, right, at some point. or maybe just listen to the ads and go to that website, they said. Drew, I made a mistake yesterday on the Sunday morning show. We have this guy on, this former NBA player. Do you remember Quentin Richardson? Of course.

He was part of the Clippers back in the day of the fun team. Yes, he was a lot of fun. He's a newly hired full-time NBA analyst at ESPN, but we've had him on our show over the years, and I've always liked him. I think he's really good. I think he's going to be, this is my prediction. So I'm pretty good at picking guys who are going to be stars on ESPN. I did it with Dan Orlovsky.

I said this dude's going to be huge. And he did. This is my next one. Quentin Richardson in two years is going to be big on ESPN. You mark my words. But yesterday I made a mistake. He had done a really good interview. And at the end, I was trying to pump him up.

Drew, like, I was trying to be nice, you know. And I said, hey, Charles Barkley. Hey, Shaq. get ready. Q-tip is coming. And then I realized no one calls him Q-Tip. Like, I don't know. His name is Quentin.

I just called him Q-Tip. And then Myron was like, that's not his name. And I said, I thought it was. And he was like, it's not. And then Quentin Richardson was like, well, you can call me whatever you want. But it was clear that his name was not Q-Tip. And I just called him Q-Tip. And Drew, I'm not sure why I called him Q-Tip, but it was clearly not his name.

You're halfway there. He was Q for the longest time. I've never heard Q-Tip either. Where did I get the tip? I know the tribe called Quest guy was Q-Tip, but did I think, Shannon, that that was Quentin Richardson? Why did I call him Q-Til?

I have no idea why you would call him that. I said it with confidence, though. That's the main thing, though. You said it with confidence. You should have said, get your Q-tips, clean out your ears because Quentin Richardson is about to be talking basketball with the best of it.

now that you know our route, play the winner of Oklahoma and Georgia, then play Alabama, then we would probably play, what is it, or no, excuse me, then play, yeah, then play Alabama, then play Florida. What chances do you give us of making that run? The whole run winning four straight against, that would include beating three of the top NCAA tournament seats. I think that's unlikely, but I'm not surrendering any games to Alabama. just the comparable styles of play, the team that makes the most threes, I think will win that one.

Whatever you get out of the first round, I feel pretty good about that. And then I do think they're capable of winning Friday, and if you get into the weekend, I think we'll all be happy and just hope for the best. But with cars back and being so limited to win four straight, I think's asking a lot. Yeah, I think, I don't know what, Ryan,

I feel like if we were, play in Alabama for a third time, hard to beat a team three times in row. I kind of feel like if we get to this, that game, I give us a shot. I really do. I think I'll probably end up picking Kentucky against Alabama. I know they just won at Auburn, but I feel like if we're going to play a good team, let's give it a run and we'll have fun. We'll see where we are going into Mark to the tournament. Kentucky Wildcats have not won an SEC tournament game in Nashville in six years. It's 2019.

So first beat Oklahoma or Georgia. Is that what you mean? They won in 2020, didn't they? They won the first game, I think. In Florida. They won one game. It was in Tampa. Florida. They haven't won in Nashville. Florida. They haven't won in Nashville since 2019. So the momentum, the people are chomping at the bit, I think that's going to carry Kentucky for a couple games. There's no doubt about it, just the excitement that we've been

starving for some success down there. Well, that stat also makes me realize let's at least win the first one.
