This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now, here's Matt Jones. All right, welcome in, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, grandpas, and grandmas, aunts and uncles.
Starting point is 00:02:45 This is Kentucky Sports Radio on Tuesday, April 15th. It is tax day. Although if you're in Kentucky, you really, you may not know this, but you've gotten until November to turn your taxes in this year. I'm waiting. Yeah. They gave us Kentucky an example. because of all the flooding, but they didn't really report it. I don't think they wanted people to wait.
Starting point is 00:03:04 Wanted people to go ahead and try to do it today? But you got an exemption today. That voice you heard was Drew Franklin. I'm Ryan Lemon. We got Shannon T-Dood over in Louisville. As always, Connecticut Sports Radio, sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office called T. T.J., what happened, Shannon? He'll make them pay.
Starting point is 00:03:16 By the end of the day, we hope to announce our whiskey thief call of the day that will be calling in on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line, which is 859-280-2-287. And the A-Vision Glass Tech Machine already buzzing this morning, my cell phone. because there may or may not be some stuff shaking in the UK basketball roster today, Drew. We got a little tip that maybe things are about to happen, but no confirmation yet. It's got to be Lamar Wilkinson, right? Well, I didn't get a tip. You got to tell me what you know.
Starting point is 00:03:43 I don't know anything. I'm like everyone else waiting for something, but no one has given me a tip. Now, what's like he announced he narrowed his choice to two? Down to your Indiana Hoosiers and my Kentucky Wildcats. Okay, that's an easy choice. That's an easy, easy choice. I don't even know what he's got to think about on that one. Do we want to go ahead and announce it now?
Starting point is 00:04:02 He's coming to Kentucky? Well, let's just wait. Maybe by the end of the show, we'll get a little more, a better confirmation on it. But I think some things are shaking. Things are moving right now. And we may or may not have some news about Lamar Wilkerson by the end of the day or hopefully soon. And if we talked about yesterday, Drew, he could be the missing piece, you know, the shooter that kind of this roster really needs. Yeah, he canceled his Auburn visit, which is big.
Starting point is 00:04:27 Bruce hold another L. Bruce holding a lot of Ls this portal season. I guess he's going to go home and think about it. Jack Pilgrim reported that on our board last night. Pray on a little bit, talk with family, but he is down to the Hoosiers and cats. And as you said, man, if I'm looking at a table in front of me, and one paper says Bloomington and one says Lexington, and I just went to Keenland and pranced around with a winning horse in the winter circle and had a great day like that surrounded by Kentucky fans screaming at me to go to UK.
Starting point is 00:04:56 I don't think I have to do much praying or thank you. I would have made the call before I left town, but that's what we're waiting to pop, whatever he decides there. That'd be a good pull. He's considered the best shooter in the portal. Last year you got Kobe Brea, who was considered the best shooter in the portal. We saw what happened with Brea, which, by the way, Kobe Brea showed up on an NBA draft board last night. He did. He's in the 50-ish range, 54th.
Starting point is 00:05:19 Maybe I don't have that one off top of my head. It was in the 50s. Yeah, it's the first time we've seen a cat in the projections for June. So I'm sure Pope can say, look what we did for Kobe Brea. He was not going to be drafted until he came here. Now he's going to possibly get drafted in the second round. We can do the same for you. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:05:38 I just feel like I like Pope's chances in this. If it's coming down between Kentucky and Indiana, he was here all weekend, I just feel good about it. I feel pretty good too. I'd like for it to happen sooner than later. I don't want him to get home and sit around and let the newness of the Kentucky visit wear off and let him take more calls.
Starting point is 00:05:56 I'd wish you'd go ahead and get it done, but it seems Kentucky's all about him, and all in on him is the shooting role, whereas Indiana yesterday even reached out to another guard, so if you're reading tea leaves, maybe Indiana is panicking and going to a second option. But hopefully he gets it done by the end of today. Let's go ahead and knock this out. What are we waiting for? That's not a good look, Shannon. When your team you're considering is going out and looking for another one already,
Starting point is 00:06:21 maybe they're thinking that they're not going to get him. Yeah, I mean, if it were Kentucky and Auburn, you know, a team that's a team that just went to the final four, I would go, well, you know, maybe there's a chance that we don't get this player. But Kentucky and Indiana, I mean, could you make it more obvious? Like, why? Why would you go to Indiana? If he goes to Indiana, I will be absolutely shocked. They must have some really good NIL money if he's going to Indiana over Kentucky. I just don't know why he would. You know, you get a factor that in, new coach over there at Indiana. Kentucky's got a new coach. Yeah, Kentucky has proven success with its coach.
Starting point is 00:06:52 That's right. We had one year of good coaching. They got a new coach coming in. of hadn't been good since you were going to Bob Knight's camp. I mean, what's there to go see in Bloomington? Maybe they can offer a little bit more money, but you're going to disappear, not playing the tournament. They had plenty of guys making lots of money last year, and look where that got him. So be smart, be the final piece in Kentucky's roster, be the shooter to go with all the other pieces Mark Popas and be a part of something special.
Starting point is 00:07:17 So let's play the game. Let's play the game that Kentucky gets Wickersen today. What's our starting lineup? Let's go ahead and start debating it. You got low at point. Wilkerson and Otega. Yeah. Both of those guys.
Starting point is 00:07:31 Yeah. Aline Diabate, just because I don't think he would have left Alabama to go off the bench again somewhere else. Maybe the big Croatian steals it from him or over time, you know, takes it from him. But I think he will start at the four and then Garrison. Garrison at the five. I think that's your five if Wilkerson commits. And if Jaden Quaitens gets healthy. Yeah, he could.
Starting point is 00:07:55 he can make his way into the line. He'll need a little while coming off the ACL, even if he's up and running by September like he wants to be. I still think he might take a little while getting acquainted with college basketball again. But he will probably overtake Garrison, depending how Garrison makes a jump. But a lot of depth in the front court. You could throw those in a hat and mix them up and do pretty well with the pieces of Popaz. But I think Lowe-Wilkerson, if he commits and O-Way are slotted in there.
Starting point is 00:08:23 Is Wilkerson our potential leading score? No, Owey's your guy I mean, he's your shooter He'll step out there and make shots But when Owey have double figures in every game But like two last year I mean Oway will be one of the best players in college basketball O'way will be your leading score again
Starting point is 00:08:39 But obviously he doesn't shoot it as well Loaded and have a great percentage last year So Wilkerson will be needed to make shots If Otega can improve his three-point shot He'll get drafted next year Yeah, he's got to fix that little hitch He's got going on It's a slow release
Starting point is 00:08:53 It's not pretty Michael Kid Gilchrist, he was second pick in the draft years ago. Game was a little different then, but his shot was pretty broken too. So maybe someone would take a flyer on him, but he will need to work on that this offseason. So we wait on the Lamar Wilkerson decision and, of course, the NBA draft a year from now with those guys. We did have a cat get drafted last night. How about Georgia Amor, Shannon? Going to the Mystics.
Starting point is 00:09:17 Going to the Washington Mix six pick overall. We talked about yesterday. Some projections had her maybe going 10. Was a little bit of surprise she got picked so high at six? I think it was. She was kind of a fringe top ten player in the mock drafts, and you hear her go six to the Washington Mystics. I guess we're on Mystics fans.
Starting point is 00:09:34 Actually, yesterday, about two hours before the draft, I booked a flight to Washington, D.C. for something else. It just so happens. I land at 3 o'clock on the day of the Mystics' home opener. I don't think I could go to the game, but I will definitely pop in the Mystic store and see if I can get some Amor rookie gear on her debut day. A little bit of a coincidence for me there that I just happen to be landing a few hours before she plays their first game in Washington.
Starting point is 00:10:00 You know, I'm a big Mystics fan now. We are Misty fan. By far, my favorite WNBA team. They had, I think, Shane, like three of the first six picks Mystics had. Yeah. And so they were just loading up. So maybe they're a good young team that we all can kind of adopt and watch them grow. They're going to be my adopted team.
Starting point is 00:10:16 You know, I think about how much she meant to this Kentucky team last year and how she just will them to a win there in the first round of the NCAA tournament that we watched. in the Milwaukee food court on my phone that day. But, yeah, I'm really happy for her. I also wanted to ask Drew, you know, your boy, Russell Westbrook was there with her. You know, didn't you have some beef with him? We were talking on the pre-show. I was trying to remember the beef. But I think weren't we in like Oklahoma City?
Starting point is 00:10:41 And he was like after the game and he was taking a picture. And he kept trying to get the right shot. And you tweeted out that he was standing there for 20 minutes trying to get a show. Tell me the story because I'm trying to remember it. I don't know if I'd call it beef. It was slightly. It was more like ground turkey. We weren't all the way into beef.
Starting point is 00:10:57 The light version. Yeah, we were all sitting around. We had done the postgame show in the Thunder's Arena. And he and his friend were having a full-on photo shoot, but he was doing those photos where he was looking away, pretended to not know that there were pictures being taken of him. Yeah, cool guy. Yeah, and then he would get the phone, and you could see him.
Starting point is 00:11:17 He'd shrug, and then he'd step back and he'd do it again. He'd look up, and then he'd take the phone from his friend. Oh, I didn't like that one. Let's do it one more time. And it just happened over and over and over again. I just said something to you all, like, how many pictures this man going to take? So then I didn't even tweet about it or anything at that point. I just thought it was bizarre.
Starting point is 00:11:33 I mean, it probably took 100 photos. Man, you just played a game. You can go on home, but just one after another. And then in our car ride in Texas, you know, we're out there with the tumbleweeds blowing around. And I'm just scrolling Twitter, and he had posted the picture. And I just kind of commented, like, you know, took a few tries or a thousandth to take or something like that. and he fired back of me. He was not happy. I forgot exactly what he said, but he was looking for trouble, or I guess trying to give me trouble. But I was just commenting on how long it took to perfect that photo he pretended that wasn't being taken. So we had a little bit of back and forth. I think I replied, you're not mad at me, you're mad at Kevin Durant because Durant had just left the thunder at that point. Might have the bear a little bit. Yeah, it was a fun little back and forth that day. We were bored on a KSR road trip. I'm in the back seat. I had to have a little back and forth with Russ. It entertained us all for a little while.
Starting point is 00:12:22 You're going back in front with Russell Westbrook. I didn't mean to. I was just noting that it took several tries to get the photo that he pretended he wasn't posing for. I did like, I'm not anti-Westbrook. That was years ago. I did like that he styled Georgia more last night because that was a big part of the broadcast. She got a lot of attention last night, not just for that, but she was a big part of it. Even Holly Roe mentioned being taller than Georgia.
Starting point is 00:12:46 Like, what are we taking shots at her height? She's got pick six, and you're talking about being taller than her. love that and someone else on the set mentioned what's better a three or a floater and georgia's like too soon coming off the floater she had just missed so there was a few parts of the broadcast where they needed her a little bit but i like the uh the westbrook thing that was cool did you like the outfit she had on shannon that russell westbrook designed for her oh yeah you know i'm the fashion expert here so i think she was uh she was fashionably dressed for the for the draft i really liked it i mean could you see yourself maybe wearing something like that ryan uh you know no i don't know
Starting point is 00:13:19 I don't know if I can pull that off, but like Drew said, it was a big part of the broadcast. They made a bit, on the red carpet, they made a big deal about her wearing Russell Westbrook design clothes. He was there. He was there. I got a picture with her on the red carpet and stuff. So it was kind of a big deal last night.
Starting point is 00:13:33 If it's not free, you're not going to wear it. We already know that, right? Yeah, free as me. Big for recruiting, too. Kenny Brooks was there, you know, for many years. Cal, that was a huge recruiting tool. He'd make sure he was in the green room every time and got seen on TV.
Starting point is 00:13:46 Kenny Brooks got to do that last night, so I'm sure he will use those photos and their experience on the recruiting trail. And her parents were there from Australia. She talked about how she hadn't seen her family in so long, and they came in for her senior days. I obviously stuck around for the draft night, so very happy for Georgia anymore getting draft six overall last night
Starting point is 00:14:03 by the Washington Miscuits. MISKs. Miscuits. Go Mystics. I have a lot to learn about the mystics. I knew they existed. That's about all I could tell you. We'll get it figured out, though.
Starting point is 00:14:13 When I was watching the broadcast, they'd say who has the next pick. I was trying to know if I knew their nicknames. Most of them I don't. Well, I knew the L.A. Sparks. That's where she was projected to go. We thought she might be heading to L.A. And the new team is the Valky's, Golden State Valky's. Look at you.
Starting point is 00:14:30 What's the Atlanta team? Oh, crap. I just wrote this in the morning because she plays Ron Howard in the opener. Ryan Howard plays them. Dream. The Atlanta Dream. Yeah. The Indiana.
Starting point is 00:14:41 Fever. Fever. Georgia actually opens her career at Indiana playing Caitlin Clark. Her home opener is. the one against Ron Howard. So two marquee matchups to open her WMBA season. Here you go, Ryan. I've got the entire WNBA team list. You want to see if you can name the mascot to go along with the team? So you already said Atlanta, right? We've done Atlanta, we've done L.A. and we've done Washington. I think I've done all the ones that I know. I don't know
Starting point is 00:15:05 any other way. How about Ryan or Drew? Chicago. Oh, that's Scott. That's Angel Reese. Haley Van Liff is going to Scott. That's correct. She was a big deal last night. How about Connecticut? There's some others you'll get. There you go. There you go. You already said Indiana. New York. Did we say that one?
Starting point is 00:15:21 Liberty. There you go. I said Washington Mystic. Dallas. This one's kind of tough. Cowboys. Wings. Wings.
Starting point is 00:15:29 The wings. The wings got them all. I think I could do the whole league. You already said Golden State. Las Vegas. I do that one. We already said L.A. Sparks. How about Minnesota?
Starting point is 00:15:40 This is a tough one. The links? There you go. How about that? All right. Two more. Phoenix. Mercury.
Starting point is 00:15:45 Yes. Seattle? Storm Yes We got them all Listen we're basically A WNBA show I will say
Starting point is 00:15:55 I couldn't have done half of that two years ago They've come a long way Kail and Clark's a big part of that But I could not have done The WNBA teams a few years There's one more future team coming
Starting point is 00:16:05 That I don't think anybody will get Toronto Who I don't know that one No idea Tempo They're wrapped hers That's a good one That's what they should be
Starting point is 00:16:14 They should have called me I've said it's front of the show There's a guy in Lexington that had at one time the naming rights if they ever came to Lexington. Like he had the, bought the rights to name the WMA team in Lexington. I don't know if he still has it, but I know he did at one time. We'll bring a team. That'd be fun.
Starting point is 00:16:29 It would be fun. I'm still a Mystics fan, though. What size of shirts? Do I need to get you all shirts when I get to D.C.? Maybe some foam fingers? I want whatever Georgia Amor's number is. I want with her number on the shirt. I'll load it up for everyone.
Starting point is 00:16:44 All right. Well, we'll take your calls, 859-2802-287. at the Clark's Pump and Shop phone number. Ryan, Drew and Shannon here, so lining them up. We'll get to them as soon as we can here on Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying,

Starting point is 00:17:46 And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42.
Starting point is 00:18:07 Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Cliverts. on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, it's Edwin Castro, also known as Castro 1021. And I'm Kunky, his best friend, and business manager.

If you're watching the latest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, you already know there's a lot to break down. Gorsha accusing Kelly of sleeping with a merry man.
Starting point is 00:19:08 They holding Kay Michelle back from fighting Drew. Pinky has financial issues. I like the bougie style of Housewives show. I think it looks like to be interesting. On the podcast, Reality with the King, I. Carlos King recap the biggest moments from your favorite reality shows, including the Real House Wise franchise, the drama, the alliances, and the T, everybody's talking about. As an executive producer in reality television, I'm not just watching it. I understand the game. As somebody who creates

To hear this and more, listen to Reality with the King on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcast or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan, Drew, and Shannon. Matt's still in Amsterdam for a couple more days. Coming back this weekend, he'll be back in the big chair on Monday for KSR. Phone lines are open.
Starting point is 00:20:06 We still got some lines open. You want to call and get on, and we'll get you on as soon as we can. 859-280-2287. That's the Clark's Pump and Shop phone number. Did get some good text on the A-Vision Glass Tech Machine, though. This one has two of them got me really excited. Okay. So that's where we're going to go right to them.
Starting point is 00:20:19 This is for scoop slash breaking news. A new Long John Silvers is being built on Nicholasville Road next to Scooter's coffee. Is this true? I did see rumblings of a new Long John's coming to Lexington. As of right now, there's not one, I don't believe. Nope. I know Freddie had to, when Freddie would get it, he had to go to Paris, maybe, Mount Sterling, somewhere a little bit outside of Lexington to get it.
Starting point is 00:20:46 So, yeah, this will be the first one in Lexington in a while. Shannon, how many Long John Silver's are still up in Louisville? A few. I don't know the exact number, but they're few and far between. Not a whole lot of them still around here. You're a big fan, apparently, right? Well, growing up in Indiana, the only two fast food restaurants close to Otwell, Indiana, were Jasper at a McDonald's and a Long John Silvers.
Starting point is 00:21:08 And that was it, until they got a Druthers. But Long John Silvers was huge back in the day. Big City getting in Druthers. In Madisonville, we had a Long John and a Captain Dees. Kind of feel like there's a divide. You like one or the other. Do you prefer Long John since you had it not well? Or you got a strong opinion of the war?
Starting point is 00:21:27 There are some things I like in both. Seriously. Like, first of all, you go to Long John Silverers, you have to get what do they call them, the crunchies? You can just order crunchies, right? It's healthy. That's good stuff right there. Yeah, that's on the food pyramid. Fried crust.
Starting point is 00:21:40 That's what that is. It's just all there. The grease and everything in it. Help us clean out our friar by eating these random pieces that got held back. So that's one text on the aviation glass text machine. Here's the other one. This is from your part of the world, Drew. Webster County High School.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Jackson Edens broke the state all-time stolen base record last night with 167 career steals. I mean, if you play four years of high school baseball, that's over 40 a year. I'm just taking this person at its word. They just sent this to us on the text machine. Could be totally false. But 167 stolen baseball. bases in your high school career is amazing. That's impressive. That's impressive. Happy for my neighbor there. They had some good baseball teams when I was in high school. Nothing like still in that
Starting point is 00:22:28 many bases in four seasons. That sounds like a young Ryan Lemon there. How many did you have Ryan? In high school, I probably only had 60. This dude had a hundred more than me in high school. You better hope he doesn't go to Wesleyan. That records in jeopardy. I don't think about that. You better get in between him and any Wesleyan scholarship if you want to protect your history and your legacy. And here's the other one. Congratulations. Congratulations to your Webster County guy.
Starting point is 00:22:52 If that really happened or if someone on the text machine made it up. And there's the other one on the invasion glass text machine. Tell Shannon thanks. I just pictured Ryan in a Georgia outfit in the Georgia outfit. I can see that. We could do a reenactment with Ryan and the, which were those like leather? What exactly was that that she was wearing? I don't know, but she said on the interview that she helped him kind of decide what kind of look she wanted.
Starting point is 00:23:17 And then he just went with the material and kind of picked it out and put it together for her. Yeah, I don't know how you would describe that. I don't think you could pull that off. It was kind of, I really don't know. It was kind of like a leather jacket. And I don't know. I'd love to see you in it, but I don't know what you would call it. Russell, he's known as a fashion guy around the NBA.
Starting point is 00:23:34 So that was a good collab for her. Help further her brand and marketing value there if she gets into the league. It's become such a big deal for the NBA draft and now the WMBA draft, what you wear to walk up to get your jersey. and get your photo taking with the commissioner. Well, not just the draft. The NBA is basically half of its fashion now. You know, they take pictures of them walking in.
Starting point is 00:23:57 That's a big part of basketball culture these days. It's amazing to go back to, like, was it the 2003 NBA draft? Everybody's wearing, like, the oversized suits. Oh, yeah. And to look at what, you know, now are the kids. Dwayne Wade. Yeah. Karee.
Starting point is 00:24:11 No, not Kari. LeBron. They all had the big, yeah. Carmel. They look like kids wearing their dad. seat. It's like the little rascal's going to rob a bank or something. Shoulder pads in their shoulders.
Starting point is 00:24:22 Yeah, well, I have a feeling a lot of the fashion we see now. It will get made fun of in 10 to 20 years also. So speaking of the NBA, the NBA playing tournament starts tonight. There's two games tonight, two games tomorrow, and if I understand they just play one game, you win, you're in, you lose, you're out. So if there's two games tonight, we've got to pick our games for our drafting segment. Do you have the odds pulled up? I do not have the odds, but I have the games.
Starting point is 00:24:48 Well, okay, I can get the odds while you read the games. First game is the Hawks and the Magic. All right, quick Googling here. It looks like the Magic are a five-and-a-half-point favorite. I don't know if I can name you one magic player. Well, we hate the Hawks right now. I don't know if you saw, you know, Terrence Mann is. I've heard that name.
Starting point is 00:25:07 He plays for the Hawks, and he talked trash about Tyler Ulyss on Twitter this weekend. And he got so much backlash. He deleted the tweet. Arkansas fans and Kentucky fans came together to defend Tyler Ullis against Terrence Mans. What was he against Tyler? He became like a GM of his alma mater, and he had been critical about players want a lot of money when they only average seven points. And Tyler tweeted like, this dude averages seven points. What's he talking about?
Starting point is 00:25:37 And then he replied, you could never make it in the NBA anyway, something like that. So once he went at Tyler Ullis, I think he had some regrets. because that tweet got deleted pretty quickly. So that's my long way of saying, out on the Hawks. Terrence, man, you got to go home. We're all with the Orlando Magic tonight, Shane, who you got? I got the Hawks. Give me the Hawks.
Starting point is 00:25:57 What do you mean? We're all with the magic. You didn't ask me. You didn't even ask what I thought. Well, I thought you'd take up for your boy Tyler Ullis and go anti-Hawks like the rest of us. Well, I'm just, look, it's not about Ullis. It's about who I think it's going to win the game. I think the Hawks will win tonight.
Starting point is 00:26:10 That's it. Jacob Topin scored 17 points for the Hawks in the regular season finale. So he checked in to remind everyone he's still out there. Well, I watched the Pelicans game Saturday night, and not only was Antonio Reeves playing, so was Keon Brooks. Keon's had a few big games. How about that? This point in the year, I mean, good for them that they get called up and get those minutes, but it's kind of like the G-League at this point in the season.
Starting point is 00:26:34 A lot of guys who don't get that call in the rest of the year. That last week they get in and get some runs. But, I mean, they both took advantage of it. That's a big game, not trying to trash them there. It could help him moving forward for next season. Because Oscar, I think, had a couple big games when he finally got to play for the jazz, right? He's playing for the jazz. Oscar's rebounding numbers are just as insane as they were at Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:26:55 It's crazy what he's able to do in the NBA. One team not find a spot for a guy that's got that skill set. I think he has, like, four or five G-League games with 25 rebounds or more. 20 rebounds or more. Incredible. The other game tonight, the Grizzlies and the Warriors. I'm surprised the Golden State Warriors are in the playing game. Yeah, I got to go with the Warriors here.
Starting point is 00:27:12 Spread seven and a half, though. That's a big spread. I'll actually say Grizzlies cover the spread, but Warriors have to advance. We need them in the playoffs. Shannon? I agree with Drew on this one. Give me Golden State. Yeah, Golden State, they cover.
Starting point is 00:27:24 I can't believe they're in the playing game. Do we know anybody on the Grizzlies? John Morand? Yeah. There's no cats on the Grizzlies, but I mean, he's their leader. You got Kevin Knox with the Warriors. So there's a cat playing tonight. See, I didn't know he was with the Warriors.
Starting point is 00:27:37 Is Michael Mulder still with the Warriors? Is not. Michael Mulder is not. I'm still friends with his dad on Facebook, so I get a shout out to Randy. I get to see lots of Michael Mulder updates, but he is no longer in Golden State. So there's your Draft King segment, the playing game start tonight, and tomorrow night. Two more games tomorrow night. We'll take our break, come back.
Starting point is 00:27:55 Phone lines are open. 859-280-2287. Ryan Drew and Shannon. We're right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Starting point is 00:28:09 Here's Matt Jones. This is obviously Bruce Springsteen and his buddy that he wrote this song about just passed away like in the past week or two. Did you see that, Shannon? I just saw something on social media where his high school friend that was the pitcher that could throw a speedball by you had just passed away. Yeah, I didn't know that that was an actual true story, you know, the song Glory Days. But yeah, I've sad to hear that. Yeah. Although I don't really know what a speedball is.
Starting point is 00:28:34 Fastball, you know. Have you ever heard it called a speedball ever other than this song? No, I don't think I have. Me neither. Must be easier to sing, I don't know. 859-280-2-287. We've got some people on hold. We want to get to you as soon as that possible.
Starting point is 00:28:47 But we're talking about baseball. We've got a watch party here today at KS Bar and Grill, Drew. UK baseball plays at Miami of Ohio at 7 o'clock. It's on the road, so we'll have it on TV here if you want to come, watch the game. We have a little UK baseball watch party tonight. That's exciting. I didn't know it was away. I just assumed it was home, so that's breaking news to me.
Starting point is 00:29:06 But it's nice to see them playing a team that's not ranked. in the top 15. I think they've played like seven straight, you know, ranked opponents, really good teams lately, which is part of why the record is what it needs to be. So nice to step out to non-conference and play someone that's not dominating right now. And they've got Tennessee coming in this weekend, so it doesn't get easier. It's at Tennessee. It's at Tennessee. I considered going to that one, had my head of all friend invite me in.
Starting point is 00:29:32 I committed. And then after committing to it, a couple days passed. And I thought, no, I don't want to go to Knoxville. So I had to back out on that. But I will be watching them play the balls from afar this. weekend. All right, let's get to our phone calls. 859-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:29:44 Who's first, Shannon? We'll start with Freebird. Freebird. Go ahead, Freebird. Hey, guys. Welcome back to everybody. And Drew, dude, you did an outstanding job last week, my friend. Yes, he did.
Starting point is 00:29:56 Thank you very much. Thanks for listening for the compliment. And Billy was asking you some questions when you all give away those concert tickets about, I guess, a balcony on a hotel. So my question is, who would be the first one on the KSR crew to stand on a balcony of a hotel, and the person on the bottom balcony below you is Danny Hurley? Which one is the first one to take a leak on Danny Hurley? All right. Thank you for you, Bird.
Starting point is 00:30:28 Interesting questions starting to show off with today. Which one of us would pee on Danny Hurley? Probably Ryan. Just so you all know when you were gone, Billy did the Which is Most Likely Two Game, where he gives me a scenario. I didn't know them. it was like who would bail you out of jail
Starting point is 00:30:42 I think I said you Ryan you were a lot of the answers Oh I don't know if that's good or bad Did you all hear this? I know you didn't admit you didn't hear that Yeah it was like one was who would bail you out of jail Who would get out and fix a flat tire Who would die first in a horror movie
Starting point is 00:30:56 A lot of scenarios like that and I had to answer So that's how this came about Ryan was the answer to all the three of those He was too lot You were actually I said you Shannon first to die in the horror movie Because all of us you would walk towards the danger you're out of curiosity. That's true.
Starting point is 00:31:11 That's why I picked you on that one. That's probably right. So who's peeing on Hurley? Ryan. Ryan's doing it just because. Ryan doesn't even know that Danny Hurley is underneath that. But he's just doing it because it's a balcony and he's got to go to the bathroom. Definitely not Shannon.
Starting point is 00:31:24 Shannon has kind of the fear of heights. He wouldn't get close to the edge of the balcony. I think it's Ryan. I'd say if we had, let's say Billy gave me eight questions. I think, Ryan, you're the answer five of them. Wow. What an honor. Appreciate that.
Starting point is 00:31:37 They weren't bad, though. I mean, most of them were positive things. Like you're going out of your way to help someone. Oh, okay. Like the flat tire, I said you. I mean, that's a compliment. You don't want to be the guy that just sits in the car and watches someone, changes the flat tire.
Starting point is 00:31:48 Peeing on Danny Hurley, though, maybe not be the best compliment. Let's just say he's not on the balcony beneath you. You're definitely the most likely to pee off the balcony. Oh, yeah. There's no way to be on. We need to bring that game back, though. That was fun. I think you all played it on the pre-show before Shannon.
Starting point is 00:32:04 Yeah, yeah, we have. And maybe Ryan can come up with some other ones for later on Let's do that. Let's have a show. Later on this week. Okay, no, we've got to do one then. Brilliant. Shannon kind of did this morning.
Starting point is 00:32:16 The spaceship thing that Jeff Bezos shot up in the air with Katie Perry and his wife and who else was on there? Gail King. Gail King. What are we doing? What are we doing as a country? They shot them up for like, what was it? Four minutes? Why did they do that?
Starting point is 00:32:31 I thought we're going to space to, you know, learn things, broaden our horizons. Why are we just sending Katie Perry up there? Aren't there women at NASA that could have gone up there and they could have gotten creative? It's all about women. How about we just recognize the people that already work at NASA? Why do we need Katie Perry in space? Because she sang. When they were up there, she sang a song.
Starting point is 00:32:49 Waste of money. We got bigger problems than putting Katie Perry in space. That's my hot take on yesterday's event. So who goes and who doesn't go in the space shuttle up in the sky? All right, now that I said it's dumb for Katie Perry to go, I would actually love to go. I'm also not doing anything for the world, but if it is put in front of me, I would hop in. I 100% would hop in. I would knock Katie Perry over to get in.
Starting point is 00:33:11 Did you see it? The landing? It was not a smooth landing. No, it wasn't. They kind of bounced off the ground, and even Jeff, you see him running. He falls in a ditch trying to run to the door to check on him. I don't think they did any interviews about the landing, but that couldn't have been comfortable. They hit hard.
Starting point is 00:33:28 Shannon, are you in or out? A hundred percent out. You know me, I don't even like flying in a regular plane. There's no way I would want to go to space. But we were talking on the pre-show, you know, like in the future, eventually, this is going to become more and more common and probably drive down the cost to where, you know, your average citizen could possibly buy a trip into space. So let's say, like I was telling Billy, for instance, let's say like there's the equivalent of Allegiant airline that's going to take you into outer space. Ryan, would you, would you be willing to pay? Let's say it was $5,000 to go to space.
Starting point is 00:34:03 but it's like the equivalent of Allegiant Airlines taking you into the outer space, would you be willing to do it? So it's $32.99 for me to go take the Allegiant Space Shuttle. You got to pay for your bags. Let's say like $5,000. You doing it? I would almost want to do it just to say I was able to do something like that. You got to pay for your carry-on.
Starting point is 00:34:28 You got to, you know, that's Allegiant. My barf bag. Yeah. It's going to be really. uncomfortable. I'm doing it. If I got a chance to do it, I'm going to do it. On Allegiant? Yes. I'm going if it's someone that knows what they're doing. I don't, I won't take Allegiant to Panama. I actually want to go on a trip soon. The only option's Allegiant. I'm just not going to go. So I'm certainly not going Allegiant to space. Well, they had the, uh, the submarine where they had people on. They
Starting point is 00:34:55 paid to go down to the bottom of the ocean. That was the equivalent of Allegiance. It was a guy controlling a submarine with an Xbox controller. That's right. That was like a home-made. thing. So if Bezos called me, even though I was just very critical of the operation, which was really dumb, I would hop in. Absolutely, you'd hop in. Matt and Shannon would not. You and I would do it.
Starting point is 00:35:14 I think that's safe to say. All right, 859-280-2287. Who we got, Shannon? What's our next call? Drew. Drew, go ahead, Drew. You're on with Drew. Hello, Drew.
Starting point is 00:35:23 Hey, hey, Drew and Ryan, Shannon. So we've got a generational talent down here in Corbyn, Kate Elam. Now, here's a deal. He could have played. pretty much anywhere he wanted to as a quarterback coming out of high school. But he's an incredible baseball player. There's scouts at every one of our games on the road at home. And so a lot of people in Florida, of course, only think about football.
Starting point is 00:35:44 And be like, man, why doesn't he go play football? But I want to get your else take and even maybe some inside knowledge if you've got it, about which would you choose. Let's say you love them equally, but you're talking about like upward mobility, the opportunity to be a professional, because Cade will very likely get drafted out of high school, it's just a matter of how high. So maybe the difference between being a quarterback versus going and trying to make it the pros in baseball.
Starting point is 00:36:10 That's all I got. Drew, don't hang up. I got a question for you. Don't hang up. Okay. So that's my question. This Kate Eland kid is a superstar baseball player, but he's really good at football. If I'm his parents, baseball is a much safer route to go, and I think he's got more talent
Starting point is 00:36:25 in baseball. If he gets drafted, I'm telling him to go for it, man. That's where I land. Where you land on that? I don't know his overall potential, but if it's enough that I think he would make it in baseball, even though I like the sport of football much better than would rather play that, I would follow the path that's most likely to give me a career. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:47 Football shelf life is maybe two or three years. Baseball shelf life could be 10. Yeah, so if I'm seriously in the mix for drafted and actually believe there's a path for me to make a pro career out of it, I would say goodbye to the gridiron. Shannon, what about you? Yeah, if it were pro, I would say baseball. If it were just college and pro wasn't almost guaranteed, I would say go to college and make that NIL money right now.
Starting point is 00:37:10 I'm sure the football players are making a ton of more money NIL than what college baseball players are. For sure. You've got the chance to go to the majors, I would take baseball. Here's what I've got to ask you a question. Who's this Malachi Brown kid down at Corbyn? He already has an offer from Tennessee in football, and he's only a sophomore.
Starting point is 00:37:27 He just got offered to get started. as well yesterday. The kid is amazing. Yeah, he burst on the scene last year. He only played a few games because he wasn't eligible. It's funny to see how kids get eligible in the KHSAA. You know, a lot of it is who you know, just to be honest with you. Well, he comes in kind of as a foreigner to our parts, and also our new coach,
Starting point is 00:37:47 Coach Salmons, came in from West Virginia. So we had, you know, we were looking at a few guys that would come in from the outside. Malachi was one of them. And he absolutely just on his first game. you remember the Smith brothers this guy's got the potential to be better he's got the potential to be better and those guys were the best two athletes I've seen
Starting point is 00:38:05 come through Corbyn football in all my years I'm 44 of course I've watched a lot, played a lot, got boys that have played and one that's still playing Silas you know Silas right those guys I'm telling you Malachi I can't wait because you know Silas gonna be playing right next to him
Starting point is 00:38:21 this year and I cannot wait to see those guys because Malachi's huge he's fast he's got a lot I mean just a ton of potential. So, you know, Tennessee and Kentucky are just really the first two. They're going to be, he's going to get offers from anywhere he wants to go. He's incredible. Be on the lookout for him. Thank you, Drew. Thanks that info. Drew was some breaking news right there.
Starting point is 00:38:39 Kentucky offered Malachi Brown. Where's the Wani-N-N-N-N-A-N-A-N-A-Shan. Yeah. I have breaking news. Yes. The baseball games at home today. I thought that was the case. I thought it was at Miami of Ohio.
Starting point is 00:38:50 No. They wouldn't travel to Miami-O-O-Hio, Kentucky Proud Park. I was going to correct you, but I'm like, well, am I wrong? No. I've looked it up. I'm glad you looked it up. And Tennessee's away. I think you just had them flipped.
Starting point is 00:39:01 Had them flipped. Miami's here. Tennessee's away. So if you're not going to the game, you can come here and watch our watch party. We'll have it on the big screen for you. There you go. Or if you're going, come out pregame or post game. Pregame or post game here, exactly.
Starting point is 00:39:13 All right, we'll take our break. Come back. Go back to the phone lines. 859-280-287. That's 859-280. Catch. Ryan Drew and Shannon. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

And on my podcast, The Cliverts show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker.
Starting point is 00:40:24 This linebacker. wops up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, ref, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Ms. Parker.
Starting point is 00:40:45 Listen to the Cliverts show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. If you're watching the latest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, you already know, that's a lot to break down. Georgia accusing Kelly of sleeping with a married man. They holding Kay Michelle back from fighting Drew. Pinky has financial issues. I like the bougie style of Housewives show. I think it looks like it's going to be interesting. On the podcast, Reality with the King, I, Carlos King,

Starting point is 00:42:30 With a bounce. Breaking news that we just found out the Kentucky baseball team is in Lexington tonight. The game is in Lexington. You tried to ship them off to Miami. We've got Langston and Emmett here from North Carolina, and Dad's raising them the right way, raising them Kentucky fans that came in. It's one of the things they have grandpa and grandma live here in Lexington. But one thing they wanted them to do, they were here to come to KS Bar and Grill,
Starting point is 00:42:52 check it out, have some lunch, watch the show. So look, he's got his Kentucky hat on, he's living down there in North Carolina. Trophecta, they got to go to a soccer match. the UK baseball game on Sunday, and now they can see Ron Lemon in person. It's like a UK fan's dream. What a deal. Our friends from St. Louis are here also.
Starting point is 00:43:09 They come over here a lot and hang out with us. Louisville. I don't know. You just keep sending people to different cities. Have you all even been to St. Louisville? I thought you were from St. Louisville. You know, he's from Louisville. St. Louisville.
Starting point is 00:43:23 I'm aware, Ryan. He comes to a lot of our shows. That's my friend, J.D. He sent me a text last night, him doing the L's Down. Well, that's a good thing to do. The double barrel is down. Yeah. Front of the program.
Starting point is 00:43:34 859-280-2287. Who we got, Shannon? Let's go to over 70. Over 70. Go ahead, over 70. Hey, guys. I know facts are optional. A couple of things, the NBA play in.
Starting point is 00:43:51 Orlando and Atlanta, the losers out. The winner plays the loser of the Warriors' Grizzlies game. Ah, okay. All right. So the winner of the Warriors' Disney's game is in, then the loser plays whoever won the first game. Gotcha.
Starting point is 00:44:12 And one other link, one other link with Golden State besides Kevin Knox, you probably remember, Kalina Azabuki does their TV. Oh, yes. He does. He does. He's been doing that for a long time,
Starting point is 00:44:26 and Matt just had him on his ESPN show not long ago talking about the Warriors. Yeah, he does a good job. It was a good job. Yeah. All right. I appreciate it. Anything else?
Starting point is 00:44:37 Yeah. Hey, you know, I'm kind of in the dark with regard to this, but Drew, how did you come in contact with Matt? How did you get started with him? There you go. All right. That's a great question. I was writing on the Internet on a different website about non-UK things, and he and some other KSR people read it. then learned that I lived in Lexington and was a UK fan and I read KSR at the times it was like
Starting point is 00:45:05 hey why don't you just move over here and so I did it was in 2009 16 years ago I took my 16th anniversary this summer I always like to say it's because of what you did at the legends ballpark with your star of styrofoam cups I got to start into the fans put me on the map we had a we had a fun Thursday at a legends game that helped draw attention and I think that's how Matt first found the site I mentioned this on Friday You know, BTI retired, Brian the intern. The world's longest running intern on Friday was his last post. I didn't know that.
Starting point is 00:45:37 Yeah, but BTI used to mention me before I even worked for KSR in his posts. So BTI helped put me on the map many, many, many years ago. What's he retiring for? What's he going to do? I guess you can only be an intern for so long. And, you know, 18 years, it's a long internship. He's spreading his wings. He's going to fly and go be in the real world.
Starting point is 00:45:57 BTI. That's kind of sad. It's a legend. And, Chan, we saw Drew the intern up in Indianapolis. That's right, yeah. If you're a long-time listener, you might remember Drew the intern. He was there and had his kid with him. He's all grown up now.
Starting point is 00:46:11 It was Milwaukee. It was in Milwaukee. He was there. Yeah. I've seen, I saw Drew in a football game, too. He asked if I could break a bill so he could catch the bus over here with his daughters. I think he had a 20 and you got to have ones to get on. I was like, I can do you want better hop in the car.
Starting point is 00:46:25 So I drove Drew. Drew and Drew went over to a UK football game. And we see Tabor once in a while. Sabre. A couple of our shows. Another intern. Maria's blossomed into a superstar. Oh, Maria basically runs on three.
Starting point is 00:46:36 Yes, she does. Yeah. All right, 859-2-2-287. Who's next, Shannon? Natty. Natty. Natty. Go ahead, Natty. Hey, guys.
Starting point is 00:46:45 Good morning. First time, a long time. I just wanted to see what role you predict having Garrison next season after the new additions to the roster. That's a great question, Natty. And I think that's going about, like Drew said. That's where they're loaded. Once Jaden Quaitens gets healthy, you've got him, Garrison, Mia Bonte, Heabante,
Starting point is 00:47:08 Maya Bonte. We got to get you on these names. You were still calling Kobe Brea, Bobby Abrae, after the season, and did Lamar Butler. I'm going to challenge you this year to learn the names. It's Habante. Hyabante. No. Diabonte.
Starting point is 00:47:25 Dibonte. Mohamed Diabante. Diabonte. And Malachi Marino. So you got like four big guys down there. You can bounce around. Yeah, to answer a question, Garrison will be starting early. Hopefully he makes a big jump.
Starting point is 00:47:37 You know, he knocked down some threes last year. Maybe Pope will give him a more of a green light on that. He showed he can pass it. We'll have to reel him in a little bit. You know, he can be inconsistent, maybe a little emotional in certain games against Oklahoma. So there's a few things to fine-tune with Garrison. But, you know, for years wanted players to stay and get better. I've seen people complaining that Garrison's getting back.
Starting point is 00:47:58 Like, how about we wait and see if he gets better? Let's see if he and the others make a jump from this year to next year, but he will be starting right away, and then when Quentin gets healthy, we'll see how that shapes out. But Pope doesn't play guys that much anyway, so we'll see all of them often. The fourth spot is Diabante and the Croatian sensation, and his last name is. We're still working on that one.
Starting point is 00:48:17 I'll give you a little time on that one, because I don't know that one myself. I think the last name's like Yellovich. That's, I mean, that's what we said yesterday. We have not confirmed. That's how you say it. Okay. Yeah, I will give you credit. You got the hard one somehow and couldn't get some.
