Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Starting point is 00:03:33 Now, here's Matt Jones. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. Hour number two, Ryan Drew and Shannon, working on getting our celebrity hotline going with DeAndre Liggins are going to join us. I'm going to make you feel really old. Okay, make me feel old. I already do, but go ahead.
Starting point is 00:03:47 He's 37 years old. Andrew Liggins is 37 years old? Yes. Still getting buckets out there too. That is crazy. Yeah, good for him. More power to him, man. Still playing that lockdown D, I assume.
Starting point is 00:03:58 Well, and he had an offensive game. Yeah. But they didn't need that for me most time. He said, hey, man, just go lock that guy up and we're going to win the game. He would go do it. One of the best wing defenders I can even remember. One of the best to do it. Looking forward to hearing from him.
Starting point is 00:04:11 So we're working on getting him back on the show. They keep showing all the Lee Corso stuff since the news just came out. He's going to be 90 years old in August. He could still do the whole season probably if you wanted to. 90 years old, more power to him. Yeah, good for him. It's going to be so weird not seeing him on there. But game day's been really good, the football version lately.
Starting point is 00:04:28 He'll be missed. But adding Sabin and even McAfee, who I don't really care for on his show, it's been must-watch TV in the last year. Kind of adds to it. So the TBT tournament was a huge success last year with a lot of the former Kentucky guys all joining together. And now they've added some more familiar names to the roster. One of them is D'Andre Liggins, who joins us now, I think for the first time ever here on Kentucky Sports Radio. Hello, DeAndre.
Starting point is 00:04:51 How you doing, man? How you doing, man? I'm doing well. So we just looked it up. You're 37 years old, but still getting buckets, man. That's pretty good deal right there. Yeah, I'm still kind of young, man. You know, I've got to keep young.
Starting point is 00:05:07 Even though I'm kind of old, I've got to keep young, for sure. Where are you playing these days? What have you been up to? And I know you've been bouncing around overseas. Do you have a favorite place you've been so far? Yeah, I've been playing in Saudi Arabia for the past two years. This year I played in Iraq for a little bit. but now I'm like back home so I'm just happy to be able to come back and let the fans see my face again.
Starting point is 00:05:34 I know they tried to work it out with you last year to join this TBT team. Did you kind of see how much fun they were having and something you really want to be a part of this year? Yeah, I wanted to play last year, but my grandma was sick and unfortunately she passed away last summer, so it was kind of hard for me to join the team. We're glad you're going to be a part of it this year. It's going to be over at Memorial Coliseum, not Rupp, which is connected to a building you're in probably every day for three years. Are you excited to get back over to the Joe Craft Center and be a part of basketball in Lexington again? For sure.
Starting point is 00:06:09 I mean, I'm familiar with that place. Going to Wildcat Lodge, going to my tutors, San Michael Stone. It was like a second home being in the Memorial College. A lot of practice, hard practices. I'm very excited. Well, you know, when the TBT started, I don't know if they realized how competitive it was going to be, but once it started, man, the competitive juices started flowing, and it wouldn't end up being some good basketball they were playing out there last summer.
Starting point is 00:06:39 Yeah, it's some great competition. A lot of guys from overseas play, a lot of young guys play. It's a lot of teams that's being put together. It's a very competitive tournament, and I'm a competitive person, so I look forward to playing and competing for sure. I want to ask you a little bit about your time at Kentucky because you were part of some special teams. And since you mentioned practicing over there at Joe Kraft, I got to know you had to deal up both John Wall and Brandon Knight in practices. Who was the tougher guard for you behind the scenes?
Starting point is 00:07:11 I would say John Wall because John was kind of, he was fast, very fast to keep up with to guard for me. very knowledgeable as the best football player at a young age. Brandon was good, too, but John was, he had a lot to him. Very quick point bar. I'm blessed with all in practice. Our practices were blessed on John Wall, but very fast-faced. Well, when someone says DeAndre Liggin's name, when they say your name, everyone, everyone in Big Blue Nation
Starting point is 00:07:46 thinks about the corner three in the North Carolina. one of the biggest shots in Kentucky's NCAA tournament history. You made it. Take us back to that moment. What was it like hitting that shot and getting the big hug from John Calipari? Another moment we all remember over there after you made it. It was a great feeling. Before that, I had to get a big block shot on Kendall Marshall.
Starting point is 00:08:08 So I just wanted to come down and make a play. It was a broken play. You're supposed to be going to play winner, but the play was broken. and I just kind of like spaced out and hit the corner three wide open. And it was a great feeling. You know, every time I see that highlight, like I get chills through my body to this day. So it was a great moment for the Kentucky fan base for our team. It was a very underrated team that year because we didn't have a lot of talent.
Starting point is 00:08:41 We had a lot of guys who knew their role, a lot of upper class for me and Darius Miller. It was that was a great year. You were here during that era where you played for Billy and then you saw the transition when it came over for Cal. It's almost, for us, the fan base, it was amazing. But for you as a player, how different was that transition? And you got to see those first two years where Kentucky basketball kind of pounded his chest against like,
Starting point is 00:09:09 hey, we're back and you were a big part of that. Yeah, it was a tough transition. Me coming in as a freshman and not playing so much. with Gillespie made a lot of mistakes as a freshman in me personally. Then when Coach Cal came, we brought in a lot of talent, John Wall, Eric Blesso, still had Patrick Patterson, the Marcus Cousins. And my thing is like I had to find a role like what was I going to do on the course to play minutes.
Starting point is 00:09:37 And that was playing defense, doing whatever it takes to get on Coach Cowell Goodtide as far as being showcased and playing minutes. So from Billy Gillespie to Coach Cowell, it was a great change. We remember the excitement around Cal's arrival. And, you know, you'd just been on a team that didn't have much success. Just basketball aside, what was just the energy like in the building? And I know you felt it around the fan base, too, especially that first Big Blue Madness when everyone was introduced.
Starting point is 00:10:11 Yeah, you know, Coach Cowell coming, Coach Cowell is a household name. So he was successful at Memphis. He was a great coach. For him coming to Kentucky, it just overpower everything. Everyone was excited. He was bringing in John Wall, all these guys, top guys. It was a very exciting spark to the Kentucky fans and the fan base. The fan base in the program just went through another coaching transition.
Starting point is 00:10:44 as Cal moved on and they hired Mark Pope. Were you able to keep up with the team last season? And what did you think of how it's gone so far if you were? Yeah, I watched Pope a lot in this team. Very guys who know they role. Not so much a lot of talent, but guys who know they roll. Great transfer quarter. His first year, he got guys from scratch.
Starting point is 00:11:11 When he first came, he didn't have no guys. Then he started building, building, building. And they had a great year. They lost in the Sweet 16, but they had a great year. They even got a better team coming in next year. And it's just a great continuation for Coach Cowell left off to Mark Pope. It's only going to get greater. Well, you'll be back in Lexington this summer for the TBT tournament.
Starting point is 00:11:38 I know they've already announced Willie and Duran Lamb, but I'm sure there's going to be a lot of more familiar names that are going to join you guys this summer. It ended up being a huge hit. We had the whole team here on the restaurant and interviewed the entire team on the radio show one day. So we look forward to getting back into town and catching up and watching to play ball again.
Starting point is 00:11:55 Thank you, man. I appreciate it, y'all. Can't wait to see you. All right, that is DeAndre Liggins. Former Kat going to join the TBT team, 37 years old and still getting buckets. Yeah, they could have used him. Talking about Pope.
Starting point is 00:12:07 Could he used his defense on this last team? I hope he brings that defense to TBT. I'm excited to see him. and it was really good to hear from him. I liked him saying he still gets chills watching the highlight of the UNC game because I know probably a lot of Kentucky fans still get chills too. It's a moment he'll never forget. It's good to hear him talk about that.
Starting point is 00:12:22 And it goes to show you. He's been away from this program for over 10 years, yet he still knew exactly what's going on, what Coach Pope's doing, the transfer portal. I mean, they still keep up with it, even when they're playing in Israel or Beirut or wherever they are. Yeah, it's one thing to sit on the couch and watch like we are. I mean, he and several others are overseas and been able to keep up. with all this while they're still playing basketball so uh very neat very cool i like to hearing him talk about the transition from uh gillespie to cow too i had that on my notes and you know you got to
Starting point is 00:12:50 ask you but i wanted to make sure we we heard from him on that situation because we never really never really got to interview him about it and he's just one of the few guys that actually lived that you know right him perry stevenson i mean cow ran off pretty much everyone everybody okay let's think who who made the transition dandre parry stevenson ray romone harris patrick paterson uh darius darius miller yeah i think i think i think i think of that's the transition i think of other than that. That might be it. Everybody else,
Starting point is 00:13:14 Sianara, goodbye. And like DeAndre said, he kind of had to find his place. Cowell, I think, almost immediately signed Wall and Cousins, two of the best prospects that have ever been signed here. And I'm sure Liggins and those guys are thinking, oh, what's my status going to be here? And as we all know, he found a role and made the most of it. It was good to hear him say that.
Starting point is 00:13:31 I knew for me to get minutes I had to find a role, so I became a defensive stopper. Was not necessarily a defensive stopper maybe before that. No, he embraced that. He also went out there fighting. or anything, but he wasn't afraid to get up in somebody's face and let him know. He brought a toughness and an attitude that some of the other freshmen didn't have. You know, Wall was more flashy.
Starting point is 00:13:50 They had all this swagger, but Liggins was a dog on that team. That was a no-nonsense guy going against people. I remember it might have been the SEC tournament, but there was like something in the tunnel. And, you know, he was, I don't remember the team, but I remember Liggins wanted all the smoke, and you needed that attitude on the team. I think somebody asked John Wall one, John Wall, John Hood. They're about the same. John Hood, John Wood.
Starting point is 00:14:10 Yeah, similar. Who is the best trash talker on the team? And he said DeAndre Liggins, by far, the best trash talker. Or the most trash talker. Yeah, we love last year's team with Pope. Full of nice guys. You need DeAndre Liggins on your team, and that's why they had a lot of success when he was a cat. So thanks to John Liggins for joining us for joining us for joining us.
Starting point is 00:14:27 We hope to still get Duran Lamb, your boy on at some point. He couldn't make it today. He ain't up? Well, he's practicing. Okay, practicing. He didn't know if he was watching Martin or practicing. Liggins and Lamb were teammates, so that's got to be cool for them to link back up. They were part of a big run the following.
Starting point is 00:14:40 year too. So would DeAndre be the oldest guy on the team? I guess Eric Bledso was last year, and he's, DeAndre's older than Eric. He would have to be. I mean, it's impressive. He's still been playing. I don't know many cats that would be older him that are still out there. He's on that Nazi Muhammad pro career.
Starting point is 00:14:56 Just going to play forever. All right, well, take our break. Go back to the phone lines. We've got some phone lines open on the Clark's Pump and Shop phone number 859-2-80-2-287. Ryan Drew and Shannon, we're right back on Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
Starting point is 00:15:15 That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise. Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you controversy. and ask the questions everybody wants answered.

Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Sliced Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. What's up guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker.
Starting point is 00:16:09 Hey, you know these kids. Walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue of 42. Hey, ref, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Ms. Parker.
Starting point is 00:16:30 Listen to the Clippers show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs. without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
Starting point is 00:16:50 His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
Starting point is 00:17:09 He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers
Starting point is 00:17:25 why he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that, I said. You figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. American soccer is about to explode.
Starting point is 00:17:44 The World Cup is coming. Ramos sending on to Ernie Stewart. I'm Tab Ramos. I'm Tom Boe. On our podcast, Inside American Soccer, you'll get the real storylines. I'm not worried about Policic. I'm not worried about Balligan. I'm not worried about McKinney.
Starting point is 00:18:06 My only concern is what happens in the back. The biggest decisions. If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team. And the truth about the U.S. national team. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals. The World Cup is almost here.
Starting point is 00:18:27 Experience it all with us. Listen to Inside American Soccer with Tom Bogart and Tabramos on the iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, wherever you get your podcast. Starting point is 00:19:23 sources see dkNG.co slash audio welcome back Ryan Drew and Shannon here Kentucky Sports Radio phone lines are open got a couple lines available if you want to get on board 859-2802287 got a question for you know the leading score in March Madness this year was Walter Clayton Jr. Kind of obvious last year it was Zach Eaddy kind of guys got to make it to the final four over the there's a graphic that came out over the last listing the leading score in March Madness over the last 10 years there's a a former cat on the list. I will be so impressed if you can tell me
Starting point is 00:19:57 who the former cat is that one year led all of March Madness and scoring. Duran Lamb. No, 10 years. Oh, 10 years. Yeah, so from 2015, where it was Frank Kaminsky in 2015?
Starting point is 00:20:10 It's going to have to be a team that made a long run. Yep. Wait, what did you just say about 2015? That's where this list started. It started in 2015, and it was Frank Kaminsky. Ooh. We said it surprised me. Not Malik Monk?
Starting point is 00:20:26 No. Deering Fox? No. I don't have it. Shannon, you got a guess? No. I don't even, I don't know. I'm trying to think of who.
Starting point is 00:20:32 The year was 2021. Johnny Juzang. There's no. You've got to give me 100 guesses. Me too. We wouldn't have got that. When he played for UCLA. I thought we were doing Kentucky players.
Starting point is 00:20:44 That was a true question. I said former Kentucky players. Okay. Yeah. I feel like, Shane, I feel like we got thrown a He said former. I mean, that would be just about every player that ever in the last 10 years. So, I mean, that could be somebody.
Starting point is 00:20:57 So he didn't do it with Kentucky. Yeah, did it with UCLA in 2021, Johnny Juzing, a guy that we completely forget about that was here at Kentucky's roster for one year and then kind of didn't get any playing time and left and ended up being a superstar at UCLA. Now it was with the Utah Jazz, another former Cat in the League. I just feel like I was tricked there. I think I was pretty clear in my instructions. Okay.
Starting point is 00:21:19 I guess so. Maybe it's on me. I'm bad. I'm bad at that game. 859, 2802, 2, 28. We've got any calls yet, Shannon? Let's go to Dave. Dave, go ahead, Dave. So, long time, first time.
Starting point is 00:21:31 Appreciate you calling. And I was told by a friend Corey that you are talking to some engineers tonight. Is that right? I'm talking to some engineers in about an hour. In an hour. Okay, so this is quick. So I actually am an engineering professor over at UK and thought you might be interested. and maybe some tips on how to talk to some people like that.
Starting point is 00:21:55 Okay. He needs all the help he can get. I need all the help. Yep. Let me have it. So I think he sent you some jokes that I sent through Corey. A couple of those probably will help you out. But I would probably lower my bar in terms of audience engagement.
Starting point is 00:22:12 Probably not going to get a lot of that with my fellow engineers. But what I would say, wait, how long is the talk? 30 minutes. Just quick 30 minutes. 30 minutes. Easy breezy. That's, that might be tough. But anything with equations, do you have any equations you can show and talk about?
Starting point is 00:22:35 No. No, I don't know. The pictures of Bridges. No, okay, so I want to say the joke, I think you sent Corey. I'm going to try it out on Drew and Shannon, see if they think I could tell this one. All right? Okay. Three graduate engineers were discussing.
Starting point is 00:22:52 who might have been responsible for the design of the human body? Okay. The first engineer said, well, think of all the joints in the body. So it must have been a mechanical engineer. All right. The second one said, no, no, no, no. What about all the electrical impulses and nerves
Starting point is 00:23:07 must have been an electrical engineer? Third says, no, you're both wrong. The human body was designed by a civil engineer. Who else would run a waste pipe through a recreational area? This is going to be a different. Neither one is this is going to be a disaster. I mean, you should use them, but I just want you to know it's going to be very uncomfortable. Well, the caller said that audience, though, might think it's hilarious.
Starting point is 00:23:32 Okay, maybe Shannon and I just aren't the right audience. No one's ever accused me in Shannon. The engineer on the phone didn't laugh either, so. Well, I think you're the guy that sent me the joke, aren't you? Yeah, but that's the reaction you're probably going to get. But they will enjoy it, I promise that. They may not react. They will enjoy it.
Starting point is 00:23:54 Appreciate the phone call. I was not worried about this at all until this, how this is playing out here today. Let me ask you, and you say 30 minutes. Is this like a paid appearance, like where you have to go 30 minutes, or is it like a volunteer? I'm just Ryan. I'm a nice guy. I'm going to come up and show up and talk for a few minutes. Oh, yeah, that's volunteer.
Starting point is 00:24:10 I can cut it short in 10 minutes. There you go. Then you're not like wedded to 30 minutes if it starts to go south, which I imagine it would based on the jokes that you've told us so. far you could just bell out in five minutes if you need to it does kind of scare me that he said you won't be much interactive i was planning on a lot of question answer during this segment i don't sounds like it may not happen you go any questions and nobody's going to raise their hand yeah you're at the wall take the walk of shame well there's 30 minutes left in the show
Starting point is 00:24:36 shannon and i just left yeah what would happen and you and you even get commercial breaks would you would you about do 30 minutes just sitting here well like i said you can do five 10 minutes on football five 10 minutes on basketball and that kind of takes up a lot of time you can kind of you know go through every single player on the basketball roster. You can show off that you know the roster and the names. I think that's impressive. Well, let's see. We've got four more minutes here, Ryan.
Starting point is 00:24:59 Like, Drew and I will just sit here and be quiet. You just talk for the next four minutes. Well, that's going to be really bad radio. Well, really bad radio. What do you think is going to be the speech is going to be killer? What's the longest speech you've ever given? You've done 30 minutes speeches before, right? Probably 30.
Starting point is 00:25:13 It's probably the longest I've ever been. Do you have notes? Are you going to have a sheet up there with you? Nope. I'm winging it. Dude, you got to, you got it. I'm just talking about Drew and how over-prepared I expect Drew to be for this play, and you're under-prepared.
Starting point is 00:25:26 You're not prepared at all. Well, on my drive-in today, I'm going to go over my head, some mental notes. I'm going to talk about on this. Did you not work on it last night? No. Oh, my gosh. I watched Tyler Hero and Anthony Davis last night. This is going to be great.
Starting point is 00:25:39 I want to go. Yeah, will anybody be live streaming this by chance so I can just watch this? Well, let's hope not. Let's hope that doesn't happen. You said it's at NBC Suites? I may or may not have said that. What time does it start? I don't remember.
Starting point is 00:25:53 I'm just going to follow you there just so you know. I'll be in the background with my sweatpants. You guys do not make me feel any better about this. We believe in you. We're just trying to make sure you're ready. We're trying to press you now so you'll get focused and realize what you have in front of you. Should I lead with the John Caliperi joke? Maybe no jokes.
Starting point is 00:26:10 I don't know. I feel like I'm as prepared to speak to engineers as Ryan is, and I didn't even have an engagement. Well, I think that's what will make it work. I am in a room with a bunch of smart people, and obviously I don't belong there, so I can kind of play off that. There you go.
Starting point is 00:26:28 Lead with that. You can do a couple minutes on why am I here. That's a great question. That's actually exactly what I was going to do. How did I get myself in this situation? I just went from talking to Drew Franklin and Shannon the dude to hear talking to a room full of smart people. How's that for an opening line?
Starting point is 00:26:43 There you go, and that hotel is famous. They have the free beer and food for like happy hour. You could play up an NBC sweets joke. I just came for the free food. I like that. Kind of lean into being out of your comfort zone. I got you 100%. Well, I'll have a full report for you tomorrow then.
Starting point is 00:26:59 See how it goes. We're excited. I'm not kidding about showing up. I really think I'm just going to follow you over there and watch. I'll get up on one of the balconies and film it for everyone. 859-2-8027. Help me, Shannon. Who we got?
Starting point is 00:27:10 Glenn and Pennsylvania. Glenn and Pennsylvania. How are you, Glenn? Hey, what's going on, guys? Excuse me. Hey, back during the SEC run there in the conference play, one of the commentators made a comment about Travis Perry went to the basket. He got fouled, and one of the commentators made a comment that he hadn't earned the respect in the SEC yet to get that call. I didn't like that because, to me, if it's a foul against one guy, it's a foul against another guy.
Starting point is 00:27:43 What's your all's opinion on that? how you feel about it. I'll hang up and listen, and you guys have a good day. Appreciate it. I think there may be a little truth to that. Like Travis Perry may not get a call that maybe. Mark Sears. Yeah, Mark Sears is going to get.
Starting point is 00:27:58 Yes. Well, I remember that game, it's like a sequence. Travis Perry got absolutely hammered at the rim, falls on his back. They didn't call it. And then Sears does that little head bob move where he acts like he got hit and then he got it. So even though it shouldn't be that way,
Starting point is 00:28:14 unfortunately that was the case, especially when you're playing against Sears, he gets a Michael Jordan whistle. I just saw on the Internet that Chad Baker-Mazara has entered the transfer portal from Auburn. I thought he was- Also 37 years old. I don't know. I think wouldn't he like 27 years old this past season? How does that dude still have any eligibility left at all? Get a job, man.
Starting point is 00:28:34 I don't know. He's on the move. I mean, he's a good player. Somebody will get him, but holy cow. I mean, I don't even know what rule or a loophole he could use to keep playing. And why wouldn't you want to stay at Auburn? We were to start one of the best teams in the country all season long. Got to get off his parents' insurance and find a new job somewhere, I guess.
Starting point is 00:28:51 We do have a quarterback that's in his seventh year, though. So we also have a little bit of Chad Baker here in Lexington, but it is crazy that he's allowed to be back for another year of basketball. Got a mortgage and two kids. He's got to take care of him. He's trying to get some more NIO money, I guess. So, all right, well, take our break, come back, Ryan, Drew and Shannon. Don't forget our Tyler Childers pre-party will be here Saturday before the concert.
Starting point is 00:29:11 After party, you can park in our parking lot. if you come visit one of our local restaurants. And then that we are just one of our neighbors. We want you to do that if you're going to park here. We'll be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Starting point is 00:29:25 Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. So, San, you say I should lead with this, the bond that bridge, so to speak, line, because they're engineers there. Well, I was just saying you should work it in. I'm not telling you, like, word for word, what to say. But, you know, you always say bond that bridge. That's what you're known for. Bill Bridges.
Starting point is 00:29:45 You bond them, they build them. I like that. I like that. Who's this segment sponsored by, Drew? The KSR Bowling League. It's back. You're going to participate? Well, I think we're going to go to take turns this year.
Starting point is 00:29:55 Okay. Like you'll go on a Wednesday night. I'll go on the next Wednesday night. Shannon's butt will come over here one Wednesday night. There we go. Well, it starts April 23rd at Southam Lanes. Every Wednesday night at 7 o'clock, as the Reed says, Ryan will be there, I'll be there.
Starting point is 00:30:07 Matt will be there. Maybe Shannon will be there. And if you think you has what it takes to beat us, The 12-week-long league is open now. Go to KSR bowling.com. You can save $50 total if you pay up front for the entire 12 weeks. There's a meeting. Well, the meeting was last night.
Starting point is 00:30:22 But you can still get in, show up in person at Southam Lane's to review the rules, pick up additional players. And it all starts on April 23rd. That's KSR bowling league.com. We have a lot of fun at these. We didn't bowl last year, but you and I went quite often just to hang out, a few celebrity shots. But it's always a great crowd.
Starting point is 00:30:39 A lot of people that like KSR. and like the cats, just bowling, having fun over to Southland, eating some of the best pizza in Lexington. It is a lot of fun. Everybody that goes, you don't have to be a good bowler. I mean, they have some serious good teams, but they have just some teams that are there for fun. The Betty Boops. Oh, I love the Betty Boops. That have been there every single year. They're just there to have fun.
Starting point is 00:30:56 There's a big party to wrap it up at the end of the year. It's a good time. Yeah. All right, 859-2802-287. That's our phone number. You said you kind of were trying to help me here. Yeah, okay. I went to chat at GPT.
Starting point is 00:31:07 This might be the most I've been freaked out by the robots. They are very thorough in their suggestions for you. First of all, I'm just going to tell you what I typed in there. All right. Ryan Lemon from KSR is speaking to a group of engineers. He has to speak for 30 minutes. What are some jokes or things he should say to play to the crowd? Perfect.
Starting point is 00:31:24 That's what I typed in there. Its response says, oh man, Ryan Lemon in a room full of engineers, that's a sitcom waiting to happen. He'll want to lean into his charm, self-deprecating style. He's the lovable every man who's in way over his head, but having a blast. way. Then it says, here's some jokes. Oh, good. I don't think Matt's going to like this one, but I'm going to read it anyway. It's the robots. It's not me, Matt, if you hear this. It suggests
Starting point is 00:31:49 that you say, if anyone here wants to build a robot version of Matt Jones that doesn't interrupt people or dominate the mic, I will fund the Kickstarter myself. How do the robots know that? That's great. Yeah. Wow. Another one says, I told Matt, I was
Starting point is 00:32:05 speaking to a group of engineers today, and he said, good, maybe they can come fix the Wi-Fi at KSpar. Another, how did they know that? This spit this out in like seconds. How does it know that? We're in trouble. There's like 30 suggestions. I haven't read them all, but that's two where the robots already know this show way too much.
Starting point is 00:32:20 My goodness. I'm a little blown away. I'll email you this. There's 30 minutes right here. Just read this. I can just read the whole thing as a speech. How about all jokes aside, the world needs engineers. Without you, we wouldn't have bridges, satellites, smartphones, or most importantly, replay technology
Starting point is 00:32:38 so Kentucky fans can yell at the referees with actual. data to back it up. Dude, just read that. Just go there and read what he's saying. Let the robots do it. That's crazy. That freaks me out for a little bit. It does.
Starting point is 00:32:49 It just tells you we're all going to be without a job in a couple of years. I did not expect it to do that. It's going to do our radio show. Once they can mimic our voices and now they know what we're going to say, we'll get fired. They'll just do it all that way. When I heard I was speaking to, when I heard I was speaking to engineers, I wore my best button-down shirt.
Starting point is 00:33:07 My girlfriend said it was the only one that made me look like I know math. I don't know if that one's a hit. That's another example. It knows you're wearing a button-down shirt. It's my best one. Oh, that's why I read that one. Jokes kind of iffy there, but how does it even know your wardrobe? Okay, somebody just told us that it's the Mead County and Wayne County
Starting point is 00:33:23 Archery High School State Tournament going on today erupts. So the Mead County teams here and the Wayne County team's here for the state archery tournament. Is that right? Oh, good luck to both. That's who we're pulling for. They come here to KS. Bar and Grill. We're here for Wayne County and Mead County. You any good at archery?
Starting point is 00:33:39 Awful. You've tried it? Oh yeah, I've shot Bowen Arrow. I'm awful. I did it at Boy Scout camp like years ago. I don't think I was very good either. Archery's blown up around the state. It is.
Starting point is 00:33:49 I think Madisonville has a good team. Well, some of the, like, I think it may be Plasky Somerset. They win like national tournaments and things. Shank, are you any good at it? Hang on a second. I was talking to Gene Mitchell again. He called me back. He said he's got a tape that he wants to try to play over the air.
Starting point is 00:34:05 Oh, yeah. Absolutely. What were you asking me? Was it more important than Gene Mitchell? No. Absolutely not. You work on getting that song up for Gene Mitchell, because we want to hear it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:34:13 Let's get a phone call then. 859-2-80-2287. Who we got? Well, it's Gene Mitchell. Oh, he's going to play it right now. You're going to play it now? Play it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:34:23 Yeah. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Oh, that we go. Yeah. It was good. It was very good, Gene.
Starting point is 00:34:30 Thank you very much. What a crooner. Was that you playing the piano, Gene? No, I don't know. I had a company's there. Okay. I used singing a holiday and jazz. Jasper, Indiana, and she was not coming.
Starting point is 00:34:41 Oh, my gosh. Yeah. Dude, that's where I'm from. I've probably seen you sing up there. I mean, Bright was her last name. She used to play up there, and I sang there for a couple of weeks or so. Well, very good. Well, thank you for doing that.
Starting point is 00:34:55 That was quite a joy. We got to hear your crooning there for a little bit. So thank you. Thank you. Bye-bye. A holiday inn in Jasper, Indiana. That just sets you in a nutshell. It's your favorite joke, the holiday inn.
Starting point is 00:35:05 It's your home area. That's winter. It's a birthday party. You're a swim party. You'd always go to the holiday inn and Jasper. There's a non-zero chance that you were at the holiday inn. And heard a little Gene play. I like that.
Starting point is 00:35:16 That was very good. 859-2-802-8-7. Did you like it, Shannon? Yeah, it was great. What are you talking about? It was great. It wasn't as good as Gene Mitchell in Panama City, but it was right there with him. We've got to get Gene and Panama City to come on.
Starting point is 00:35:29 I think that's the next step. I like before the show, Shannon revealed to us, if you don't mind me, telling our audience that you were trying to follow in Gene Mitchell's footsteps down there in Pennhamll. Oh, yeah. I'm not even joking. Like when I retire, I'm going down to Panama City, and I'm going to take over for Gene. I'm just going to sit there with the guitar, a margarita, and get paid to do that. I mean, what a great gig. Can't you see Shannon doing that?
Starting point is 00:35:51 I mean, for real, I can for real see him doing that. No, he's very serious. I now expect it. And I expect you to be there dancing as he's playing. Now, Shannon, apparently we've been kicked off WKRD. Oh. Yeah, we were supposed to have mentioned. I told you that an hour ago.
Starting point is 00:36:04 It's going to happen. We forgot about now people were texting me. You guys are kicked off WKRD. for Louisville Bats baseball. So, man, everybody got to hear Gene just now in Louisville? Nobody heard Gene. Man, wow. Maybe we should play it again.
Starting point is 00:36:16 I think that was enough. The bats interrupted Drew Palooza last week, too. I guess we're just second to the bats these days. That's never happened before, ever. Have we been kicked off with the bat? It's happened twice in two weeks. Must be something new. But I guess if you're listening, there's no reason we tell you have to go somewhere else.
Starting point is 00:36:34 WLAP. Hopefully you found it on WLAP or the Somerset Station. Let's take another phone call, Shannon. Who we got? J-Rock. J-Rock. Go ahead, Jay-Rock. Hey, what's going on, y'all?
Starting point is 00:36:45 I just got a comment on that Gene Mitchell dude. He's sound like Kentucky Joe in a Hawaiian shirt. He sucks. Whoa, whoa, whoa. No Gene Mitchell's slander on these airwaves. I would rank Gene Mitchell above Kentucky Joe. Which one are we talking about? Both of them.
Starting point is 00:37:03 Both of them. Okay, all right. I thought that this last Gene Mitchell, I thought he actually was, I'm sure he was very successful as a crooner. That just sounds like it's what you hear when you go to the holiday inn in in Jasper. Is that guy right there? We're putting Jayrock and time out for that comment. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:17 You can make fun of Darrell, but not Gene Mitchell. That's where we draw the line. There we go to J-Rock jokes. Let's get another phone call then. Who we got. Joe. Joe, go ahead, Joe. Hey, quick one question and one comment question.
Starting point is 00:37:31 Is Mario going to this performance in front of the engineers to document all this? I purposely didn't ask him about that. Please tell me he's going to be there to get some video. No, I didn't want to ask him to do that. I'm sure he's a busy man. He's got a lot going on, so probably I'll be there by myself. I'm going to ask him. Mario can ride with me.
Starting point is 00:37:49 We might stop and grab lunch and be over there. We'll have multiple angles. I'll do the aerial view from the balcony in there, and he can maybe get front row. Well, if he misses out, if you miss out, Drew, this sounds like it could be some quality entertainment. But I'll say my sister's an engineer, lovely person. person, all these things people are telling you, Ryan, the engineers might be a tough crowd, all that stuff. Just like Cal Perry would say, it's clutter, it's noise, you've got to just wipe it out.
Starting point is 00:38:21 That said, it's absolutely true, and this will likely go awful. Have a good day. Love you guys. I just thank you, Joe. I love the fact that everybody was cheering for me to fail. I think that's a big part of it. What will make it good is the failure of it. Don't get it wrong.
Starting point is 00:38:35 We're not cheering for you to fail. We're just telling you you're going to fail. We don't necessarily want it to happen. We're just letting you know what's a hit. I don't want you to fail. It would be very uncomfortable if you bomb up there. I'll tell you something else is coming ahead. Netflix, you know, they did the wrestlers.
Starting point is 00:38:49 They've done Last Chance You. They're doing one now on horse racing, and they've shot a lot of it in Lexington called Race for the Crown. I just saw the trailer last night. They shot a lot of it like Kentucky Derby. There's a lot of familiar faces in it. It's all Kenny McPeek, Bob Bafford. So it's kind of like, Shannon, like wrestlers only for horse racing.
Starting point is 00:39:06 No, I'm sure there's a lot of drama behind the scenes in horse racing. Oh, yes. We know some of it, but I'm sure this is going to kind of shine a light on all the other things that goes on behind the scenes that we have no idea about. So even though I'm not really a horse racing fan, I will definitely watch that. 100% I'm going to watch it. Have you heard anything when you think about it? Oh, yeah, I'm very excited for it. It's about the same team that did the F1 series that blew up was so popular.
Starting point is 00:39:30 So it's going to be a lot like that. It comes out next week, I'll say like Monday or Tuesday. 22nd. I think it's April 22nd. I saw it's coming out. Yeah, they're the Keenland and Churchill Downs are heavily featured. You know, Churchill, obviously, with the Triple Crown, but it looks like they spend a lot of time at Keenland, too. So I'm going to love just seeing the behind the scenes at Keenland.
Starting point is 00:39:47 So we'll definitely be seeing some people. You'll probably see a lot of familiar faces in it that we know or have seen on TV, whatever, but I think it's going to be really cool. And not even just the people they're featuring. I think just in the background. Exactly. Might see some buddies out there at Keenland, because from the trailer, it looks like they cover a lot of ground.
Starting point is 00:40:02 They're on a busy day. It's not just all like back in the same. stables there. They're out and amongst them. So heck, one of us might pop up in there. Who knows? So it's called Race for the Crown coming on on Netflix on April 22nd. All right, we'll take our final break. Come back, our last segment. You can call, get on board.
Starting point is 00:40:15 859-280287. Ryan Drew and Shannon here on Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. This is Clever Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous
Starting point is 00:41:18 referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Come on. Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, ref, my mom, I want to you to wave at her. What?
Starting point is 00:41:37 Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've
Starting point is 00:42:05 never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca, and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us
Starting point is 00:42:25 on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He run up the court, licking his fines. is why he got the ball like, after you go through a training camp with that, I said,
Starting point is 00:42:42 you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. American Soccer is about to explode. The World Cup is coming. Ramers sending on to Ernie.
Starting point is 00:43:00 Score at the chip. Score! I'm Tab Ramos. I'm Tom Boe. On our podcast, Inside American Soccer, you'll get the real storylines. I'm not worried about Policicic. I'm not worried about Balagan.
Starting point is 00:43:17 I'm not worried about McKinney. My only concern is what happens in the back. The biggest decisions. If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team. And the truth about the U.S. national team. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals
Starting point is 00:43:35 or potentially a great run into the semifinals. The World Cup is almost here. Experience it all with us. Listen, Inside American Soccer with Tom Bogart and Tab Ramos on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, wherever you get your podcast. Little hootie in the blowfish. Appreciate that, Shannon. On our last segment, waited all day to play that, but I appreciate that.
Starting point is 00:44:00 Ryan Drew and Shannon here. Our final segment for today's show, who's our sponsor, Shannon? Yeah, the Kentucky State Chamber with storms continuing to hit Kentucky, the Kentucky Chamber is continuing with their flood relief efforts and needs the help of KSR listeners. For those affected by the recent storms in Kentucky, the Kentucky Chamber has compared. piled a comprehensive list of community resources to assist in recovery.
Starting point is 00:44:20 Individuals and families can find information on disaster assistance programs, including guidance on applying for FEMA aid and other support services as well. And the website also provides details on local shelters, food banks, and organizations offering immediate relief to those in need. So for those looking to contribute to recovery efforts, the site offers information on reputable organizations accepting donations and coordinate and volunteer opportunities.
Starting point is 00:44:48 You can stay informed and access these vital resources by visiting KYchamber.com slash 2025 storm relief. Let me say that one more time. KYchamber.com slash 2025 storm relief. Thank you, Mr. Dude. Got a guy who texted in on the aviation glass text machine. Should Mark Pope look at taking Chad Baker-Mazara? Now that hits a little different now, doesn't it?
Starting point is 00:45:14 No, not that different. He's still too old to be in college basketball. I mean, he's good. good. I don't know that that would be a good fit. He talks a lot of smack. He's got a lot of technicals this past season, but he's good. Very old. I don't know. Maybe he'll give him a call, but I think that'd be unlikely. Shannon, would you call him? Said, okay, I've got something else going on over here.
Starting point is 00:45:33 Okay. Did I call who? Chad Baker-Mazara, if you were Mark Pope, the dude from Auburn and just went in the transfer port. Yeah, give him a call. The Kelly just called in and said his brother-in-law is at, I'll just let Kelly. tell you here Kelly go ahead tell me what you just told Ryan yeah my brother-in-law just texting me back and he said that you must be running late because they're waiting on you to get there right now no I don't go right now 1230 1230 to 1 is my time slot you sure yeah I told that I told him that you'd be there in about 30
Starting point is 00:46:10 minutes yeah not till 1230 I've got yeah I got plenty time to get up there to Embassy sweets. You're sure, though? I'm positive. You sure it's not 1130? No, I'm positive because we said it to, I said, I got to do the show to 12. So he said it from 1230 to 1. I believe it.
Starting point is 00:46:26 They wouldn't book you from 10 to 12. All right. Good love, brother. Appreciate it, Kelly. Appreciate that. Okay, I heard that. I just want to make sure I thought maybe you were late. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:46:34 I mean, is there any chance, any at all? One percent chance you're supposed to be there right now? No, because I told them I couldn't do it. I couldn't be there until 1230 at the earliest. Okay, I believe you. They're all there expecting you to start to walk up in and minute and start talking. They're all just sitting there with nothing going on.
Starting point is 00:46:48 And you're still on the radio. That anticipation, they're probably doing like Ryan, Ryan. And they think you're... Hit him with the joke. Oh, man, this is going to be great. I can't wait to get there. Our boy, Andy, he's got a good text there on the aviation glass text machine. I guess they gave, I guess if they can give Eric Wolford a second chance at UK football,
Starting point is 00:47:08 they can give Harley Gilmore a second chance. A little different circumstances. But, yeah, sure. I mean, Wolford actually did a great job. I know we all criticize him for leaving in the middle of the night for Alabama, and he only had the one year at Alabama where the line wasn't great, but we got to give him credit for what he did in the portal. They've built up that offensive line.
Starting point is 00:47:28 He gets all the credit. And when Stoops was on the show, he was very defensive saying he's never gotten more phone calls about a coach ever as he did Wilford. So even though it looked bad of him leaving and coming back, I guess he's getting the job done. Yeah. I do want to say the safest bet on Draft Kings right now is to bet your Atlanta Braves to lose.
Starting point is 00:47:46 We don't play today, so we can't lose today. But they lost again last night. Yeah, well, five and 13 is not great. The best bets this week, Shannon, have been Braves lose, Reds win. Reds won like six or seven. I think they lost though last night to Seattle. But if you're going on Draft King, you're looking to make a baseball bet, Braves lose automatic win.
Starting point is 00:48:04 The Reds have the Seattle today right after the show. Yeah. Is that your pick of the day? Well, I predict that the Reds will win that game today. Minutes 1.30? Yes. They're playing really well. I hate to admit it.
Starting point is 00:48:15 My dad even called me and said, you're not turning into a Reds fan, are you? No, but there are a lot of Reds fans that listen to this show, and so we try to at least keep up with it a little bit. So is your Draft Kings pick? That's my draft Kings pick. The Braves played 18 games. Only three of them have been at home.
Starting point is 00:48:27 So we're a home team, you know? And this next series is coming up is home games. So the next six games are all at home. So maybe you should bet on the Braves. Yeah, they tanked early to drive the odds. Now we bet them to win the whole thing, get better odds. and then when they get home, boom, flip the switch.
Starting point is 00:48:46 You could bet, do you have $750 in your account? $7.50? Yes. You could bet $750 to win $5 on the Reds today. As a matter of fact, I want to do that. There's a Ron Lemon, draft team. That's our draft king's the day. The crown is yours.
Starting point is 00:48:59 I heard Billy made his pick of the day that, who the number one pick was going to be in the NFL draft. And it's like a minus, what do you say was, like minus 70,000 or something. Like, it's pretty obvious. 20. It's going to be. The Titans were in Lexington yesterday. Not necessarily the whole team, but the,
Starting point is 00:49:13 Tennessee Titans bus was parked at Fayette Mall. What was that about? I have no idea. Maybe they just wanted to come check out Moletta, the Italian restaurant over there. But that was a bizarre sight. I don't know why they would be parked at Fayette Mall. I saw your picture that the bus was out there at the mall. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:27 I thought about driving over there, but, I mean, they can't win a game, so I'm not going to go out of my way to see them. Starting point is 00:49:53 He had a great combine. Yep. We mentioned it at the time, but Eli Cox, he's not invited to the draft team, but he had a huge combine too. And DeAndre, oh, not DeAndre. Dionne Walker. There you go. He's kind of fell down the draft board.
Starting point is 00:50:06 He was at the spring showcase last Saturday. Big Dion was back to check out the team. What a massive human being. our Dion Walker this year on the UK football team. You mean just like the star? Yeah, on the defensive line. There's a lot of new faces on the defensive line. I don't know who will be the big breakout performer. I don't know that
Starting point is 00:50:23 they'll have like a high draft pick like they will this year. They'll have some guys in the mix, but I don't know who will be the main one. All right, I'm off to talk to a bunch of smart people. 30 minutes late. I'm sure this is going to be perfect. It'll go smoothly. You want my QB wristband? Yes. I hope those are jokes land for you.
