Call 859-271 joke or visit Comedyoff Broadway.com. This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones. All right, good morning, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, grandpaws and grandmalls, aunts and uncles. Welcome to another wonderful edition of Kentucky Sports Radio. It is Friday, April 18th.
Starting point is 00:02:58 It is Good Friday. Easter Sunday coming up in a couple days. and we are happy to join us here. We've got some folks already here at KS Bar and Grill. A couple here from Taylor Mill going to the Tyler Childers concert tomorrow night. My buddy over here, Gary Johnson, is going to Keenland today. Folks, are you walked in from Cleveland? Also going to Tyler Childers.
Starting point is 00:03:14 Also going to Tyler Childers today. So big weekend in Lexington this weekend, and we're happy you've joined us to be a part of it. As always, Texport Radio, sponsored by the T. T.J. Smith Law Office called T. And what happened, Shannon? He'll make them pay. He'll make them pay. Clark's Publishout Phone line will be open.
Starting point is 00:03:29 859-2-287. We'll have our whiskey thief call of the day. Of course, Gene Mitchell was our call of the day yesterday, loud singer Gene Mitchell. And the A Vision Glass Text Machines my cell phone for a couple more days. As Matt is still off in Amsterdam. I believe he comes back to the United States today. Comes back to Kentucky tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:03:47 Have dinner with his parents on Sunday. And then boom, right back in the saddle on Monday to do the show. One more show without him. Then back to normal next week. mentioning Gene Mitchell, I think we need to apologize to podcast listeners. Shannon, that didn't make it in there, right? I know people didn't get to hear his music. I know it.
Starting point is 00:04:02 I hate that, but it was, I think it was probably the best part of the show yesterday, and the podcast listeners didn't even get to hear it. Rules or rules. That's right. The fact he was playing his own song off a cassette tape over the phone, and then played it for like 10 minutes, made the whole bit work. I had a lot of people message me. They were excited for that part of the show, then they couldn't hear it.
Starting point is 00:04:21 So it's the reason you got to tune in live. Well, what I understand, Shannon, it was GM Billy. GM Billy pulled the plug and said, you can't put that music on there. GM Billy was in Louis yesterday. He walked into the studio right as I was chopping up the podcast. He had his khakis on and his button-up shirt, and he looked down his nose at me and goes, we can't put that in the podcast. It's not worth it.
Starting point is 00:04:39 I said, okay. Whatever you say, Sir, Billy. So, yeah, blame Billy. Well, I almost texted you all. I'll pay the fun. They're not going to find us for Gene Mitchell playing it over a cassette. Both Gene Mitchells have got more publicity this week than ever before. Jim Mitchell and Panama City.
Starting point is 00:04:54 Yeah, they're the winners of the week. Amen. No doubt about it. So I went to my engineering speaking engagement after the show yesterday. I was about to hijack the show and make sure we led with this. I'm glad you're going to open up about it. And they booed me off the stage. They were throwing protractors and right angles and all their little engineering gadgets at me.
Starting point is 00:05:17 Muffins off their lunch plate. Muffins? Wow. Yeah. So, no, it went better than I even thought it would. I mean, I killed it yesterday, Drew. and the jokes, you guys told me not to use the jokes, I made a last minute decision. I used them, and they actually laughed.
Starting point is 00:05:33 It worked. All the jokes were. The John Caliperi room full of timeouts worked. John Caliperi taken early eggs, it worked, and the software engineer joke, they all three worked. I like it as a roast of John Caliperi there. You know, I have engineering sources, and I tweeted this yesterday.
Starting point is 00:05:50 Someone sent me a picture from the front row. I didn't know you were going to throw on a blazer. I mean, I saw you just with your button. up. I mean, you really dressed up for this looking sharp, but they said, Ryan did a great job. He was 100% Ryan. So I'm proud of you. I didn't get to make it out there. I didn't want to I didn't want to laugh in the back and snicker why it's very serious. I'm not an engineer. I didn't want to be there to interrupt. So I trust my
Starting point is 00:06:14 source here saying it was a great job. I wonder how you got the picture. I know people. You had somebody who was a little sneaky. I keep my ear to the streets in this town. But yeah, of course I started with the line that I told I was going to start with. I just got through talking to Drew Franklin, sitting by Drew Franklin and sharing the dude, now I'm here in a room with full of little smart people. They laughed at that. They laughed at that.
Starting point is 00:06:32 So I knew then I could go with the jokes. I knew I had them. You can use me as a punchline anytime. Did you full 30 minutes or 20? Oh, I think they wrapped me up about, I started like five minutes late, so about 25 minutes. Yeah, 25 minutes. I'm impressed. I am too.
Starting point is 00:06:49 Like maybe you should start speaking at everybody's engagements. No, I'm good at that, but I got my free t-shirt on. This is a middle school math competition they sponsored. Okay. So they gave me a free t-shirt. So, of course, I'm going to wear a free t-shirt. I like, you have a t-shirt on over a t-shirt. You're doing double T-T today.
Starting point is 00:07:08 Well, this one was out in the car, and I couldn't walk outside naked. Yeah, you're taking your shirt off. You'd never do that. Well, you're looking good. I'm very proud of you. Thank you. I was very nervous. That wasn't just part of the bit yesterday.
Starting point is 00:07:19 I was really wondering how you're going to do 30 minutes. So good job. Sometimes a crowd is, you know, they're not into it. We had a question and answer session. Got a question from a Louisville fan. We had to put him in his place a little bit. What do you ask? Give me an example of some questions you got.
Starting point is 00:07:34 Well, a couple, probably more football questions than basketball questions. Okay. But the question he asked was something like, you know, do you see Kentucky falling into mediocrity in the SEC with all the good SEC teams that are now kind of exploded? And then somebody yelled, he's a Louisville fan. Yeah, get him out there. Okay. Should have kicked him out of the room. Gotcha, gotcha.
Starting point is 00:07:56 Well, I'm glad you did well, and I'm most impressed by how you're dressed. I'm glad someone sent me a photo. Now we're back to flip-flops. Wow, you really are vacationed out today. It is Friday. So I got to tell you one other thing we did yesterday. You know, I have a buddy, Punk, works over in the UK Media Relations Department. He's in charge of the UK Media Relations Department.
Starting point is 00:08:13 I like Punk a lot. He's a fellow Titans fan. He took us on a tour of the brand-new UK studios that are at Rupp Arena. You know, all the renovations at Rupp Arena, they moved the entire video production department studios down at Rupp Arena. So he took Gary and I out for a tour. I'm telling you, it is better than any TV station in this state. I'm talking better than any TV station in Lexington, any TV station in Louisville. Their facilities are amazing.
Starting point is 00:08:44 And so that's where they'll do not just the basketball games, but the football games, the baseball games, the baseball games, all from these new studios down at Rupp Arena. Roperina, it blew me away. Wow. Looking at it. I knew they were putting one in. I haven't been able to see it. We're not even allowed to do any video in Roperina, so congratulations to them. Is it like UK athletics or is it also students in the journalism school?
Starting point is 00:09:06 Is it both? Yeah, it's both. Okay. Yeah, the, I guess it's a weekly, well, maybe it's a daily broadcast. UK does. The student broadcast, news broadcast, down there in the studio. But then the control room for all the sporting events, sorry, they have two control rooms. case they have two games at the same time.
Starting point is 00:09:23 If, like, baseball's playing, softball's playing. They've got two different control rooms. Top-notch equipment. It's unbelievable. And the studio is right to the corner of, what is that, Main Street, and as you're going up to Rupp Arena, and they've got the wind, it's up against the glass window. So it's like the Today Show.
Starting point is 00:09:41 Okay. If you want to, people that are walking down the sidewalk going to games, you can look in and see the broadcasts going on at that time. It's amazing. You and your friend Gary here, who you worked with, where you all just nerding out? This former news guys. Yeah, especially Gary.
Starting point is 00:09:54 Gary's into that stuff. You know, he shoots for NASCAR, he's into all the lighting and all the everything, the cameras. Has technology changed a little bit since you were in a newsroom? Oh, my gosh. Well, you know, we used to have tape-to-ta-ta-ta-pe editing. Now they edit electronically at their desk on their computer. It's totally different than when I am so outdated when it comes to that stuff.
Starting point is 00:10:13 But they've got all the new bells and whistles and everything. So if you're walking by down there to Rupp Arena, you'll see it. The big glass windows. Sometimes they do pull the curtains down. The sun's shining. Makes sense. It blows me away.
Starting point is 00:10:25 So I think you guys doing your rapid reaction now, you should do it down there in those studios. Yeah, I'm sure they'll happily let us inside to use all of their equipment to do video. No, I think they prefer that we stand in the rain or in the snow in December. But that does sound cool. I like punk a lot. I'm glad they have the resources to keep it going because they do put out great videos. It's amazing.
Starting point is 00:10:43 Sure, the students love it too. So he said, you know, every school in the SEC now has this own, their own studio, their own control room. because the SEC network now, basically, they'll just take their broadcast. Like, if Kentucky's playing, I think it was Vanderbilt this year, it was all-student-run broadcast that day. Didn't they have something at the baseball stadium, or did I dream that? Weren't they running it out of there and they move it? They still got like a control room out there at the baseball stadium also. I remember when that was put in, that was state-of-the-art, however long ago that was.
Starting point is 00:11:13 That studio alone's better than any TV station in this town right now, but it is totally blew me away. So after that was over then, we went and toured Memorial Call Sam. Kind of was walking around Memorial Call Sam. Historic. Historic Memorial Call Sam. And I didn't know this, but they took all the wooden bleachers, and the one end, it's got the VIP area. If you next time you go, look, it looks like there's wood up the side.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Those are the old bleachers. And you can still see the numbers on the bleachers that they kind of incorporated it into the redesign. I've been in there several times, not in the VIP area, but I didn't catch that. Next time I'm in there, I'll have to be on the lookout for that. It's neat. They preserved part of the historic. Historic Memorial Coliseum.
Starting point is 00:11:57 That place is so awesome. It is. I didn't get the tour. You did behind the scenes, but just going to events there. It is incredible. The war monuments are being erected now in front of Memorial Coliseum. All the names, they used to have, when you go in, all the names used to be listed there in the hallway.
Starting point is 00:12:11 They're putting them outside and liking some monuments, so it's really cool. So we kept walking around. Next thing I know, we look around, we're in the Joe Crafts Center. and we hear a bouncing ball. So we kind of go in, we're looking to, you know, peeking in. Who do you think is in there shooting baskets? I'm going to say Colin Chandler. Yes!
Starting point is 00:12:29 Hey, what a guess. How did you know that? I just, I'm sure he's been in the lab since the season ended, so it doesn't surprise me at all. He's in there. Well, it comes off the hills where he just made the announcement he's coming back. I guess he's got the juices flowing. Yeah. So he was in there shooting some baskets last night.
Starting point is 00:12:43 That was a complete guess. I'm glad I got it right. But more importantly, I'm glad he's in there working hard. I'm sure a lot of them have been in there recently. Yeah, that was a big announcement. I think we all expected it. There was never really much word that he was going to leave. Seems to like it here.
Starting point is 00:12:56 He committed to Pope with BYU, big Pope guy. But I'm glad he finally put it out there so you can officially stamp him in there. Jack Pilgrim put a little scoop on the board that Colin never even considered leaving and wasn't even going to put out an announcement. And some teammates were like, hey man, you're going to let people know. He's like, let people know what. I'm just here. I'm on the team.
Starting point is 00:13:14 Do I have to do something? They're like, well, it wouldn't hurt. So he just threw that up. I mean, he's been all in since the season ended. So when he's in there shooting baskets, who do you think is rebounding for him? Someone on the team, I assume, right? I'm going to see if you can guess this one too. Okay, I'm going to say Joe Kraft himself.
Starting point is 00:13:36 No, it wasn't Joe Kraft. His fiancé. I almost said that. I almost said his fiance. She'll let me guess. I should let Shannon guess. His fiance was in there rebounding balls for him. while he's shooting it on the day that he makes his big comeback announcement, it was just
Starting point is 00:13:50 kind of a cool scene. Heck, yeah, what a story of love and basketball. And when he put out the, the, Jiff or whatever he did yesterday, it kind of hit me with him getting married in just a month or two. How many married basketball players have ever been on the team? I googled it, and I really couldn't find any. I think maybe Michael Porter was. I mean, I couldn't find anything else before that, even going way back.
Starting point is 00:14:13 I'm sure there were some way back in the day, but there's not much out there about it. we'll have a married basketball player on the roster. It happens in football. I think even like Landon Young, I think, may have been married his last year. I know Dante, my buddy Dante, was married his senior year. Billy Gillespie was married to basketball when he was coaching. That was a big part of why we got excited about him. That may be a good question for Cory Price.
Starting point is 00:14:35 Who's the last married UK basketball player? Well, it was, if it wasn't 11 at night last night when I was thinking of this, just sitting around thinking about Colin Chandler getting married, you know, at 11 at night. I almost texted Corey, but I'm like, I won't bug you. him and put this homework on his plate. But it is, it's awesome. He's coming back. Like I said, we expected it.
Starting point is 00:14:52 But I think he's going to have a huge jump. And he's not afraid of what they're adding or the competition. He's got the attitude of bring it. Well, the fiancé kind of tipped off their plans when she posted something on social media like right after the season that she was moving to Lexington. Riding's on the wall. The wife's coming to Lexington. You're not leaving Lexington.
Starting point is 00:15:09 No, and I think he'll have a big role. I know they're still recruiting for the back court. But as I said, he's welcoming all challengers. He'll fight for minutes And he's not shying away from it We see a lot of guys That don't want to be a part of a crowded room Colin Chandler's saying bring it on
Starting point is 00:15:23 So that was the big news stories I think yesterday Colin Chandler announcing he's coming back The UK studio now is the best in the SEC And I got booed off the stage at the engineering luncheon And I think that was the free again When can we get kind of the UK upgrade to our equipment Remember yesterday we got people in here Just trying to unplug our equipment as we're on the air
Starting point is 00:15:42 Do you think the new UK studio Do you think while they're speaking and doing a show someone comes up and taps them on the shoulders like, hey, can I cut the internet real quick? I think the UK people would look at this and laugh hysterically at what we're doing our show with. It is the number one show in Kentucky. There's no doubt about it. Well, maybe one day we'll get to... Well, Shannon's sitting in like a new high-tech studio in Louisville.
Starting point is 00:16:01 Yeah. That's right. I mean, I mean, you guys act like you can't get in the studio. Like, you just did a show in the studio earlier this week. You guys choose to do it at KS Bar. That's true. That's true. That's fair.
Starting point is 00:16:12 But even when I'm in there, I don't know anything that's going on. You don't know. there's too many buttons. Maybe we just need to learn the equipment that we already have instead of complaining about it. There's a pink mic that only females are supposed to talk in. I mean, you could barely get in the parking garage on Wednesdays. So that shows where we are. All right.
Starting point is 00:16:27 Well, take our break. Come back. Go to the phone lines. 859-280-287. Ryan, Drew and Shannon. And we're going to let Drew, he wanted to do an alien segment last week during Drew Paloza. Didn't get around to it. We're doing an alien segment today.
Starting point is 00:16:40 There's aliens in the news. So, Drew, today's today we're doing your alien segment. Yeah, when you decide it to me, Shannon and I were both like, well, we don't really have anything to say. I can just be like, yeah, aliens, they're up there, they're coming, but there has been an update in the last week. So do you know it? Because I would like to read you the update and get your reaction. No, I want you to do it. And then if I've got a different alien story, we'll just make it a whole segment.
Starting point is 00:17:02 Okay, we'll work that in. Shannon's got alien news. Shout out to aliens. Shout out to aliens. All right, well, take our break. Come back. This is Connecticut Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed the game.

And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid?

Starting point is 00:19:35 Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. American soccer is about to explode. The World Cup is coming. Ramers sending on the only store. I'm Tab Ramos. I'm Tom Boe. On our podcast, Inside American Soccer, you'll get the real storylines.
Starting point is 00:20:01 I'm not worried about Policic. I'm not worried about Balagan. I'm not worried about McKinney. My only concern is what happens in the back. The biggest decisions. If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team. And the truth about the U.S. national team.
Starting point is 00:20:20 It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals. or potentially a great run into the semifinals. The World Cup is almost here. Experience it all with us. Listen, Inside American Soccer with Tom Bogart and Tabramos on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, wherever you get your podcast. All right, welcome back. It is Friday.
Starting point is 00:20:44 It is good Friday here at Kentucky Sports Radio, Ryan, Drew and Shannon. We just talked to a guy here from Pikeville. Dome. He calls himself the only Asian, him and his brother, the only Asian hillbillies in Pikeville. He's here in Lexington. Got a couple things going on, but guess where he just came from, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:21:01 Where's that? Stockton Mortgage. Aha. Uh-huh. What can he get at Stockton Mortgage? Well, you can get your home loan at Stockton Mortgage. He went out to Lexington Green, the office is here. Talk to my guy, Brian May.
Starting point is 00:21:13 He was nice to work with, wasn't he? You're getting ready to buy your first home. You're going to use Stockton Mortgage. They're easy to work with. The Dome's about to find out. And if you want to get to your closing table without any hassles, contact Stockton Mortgage. They're all across the state.
Starting point is 00:21:26 They're outside of Kentucky. to live in Kentucky to use Stockton Mortgage. Just go to their website, stockton.com, click the button, get started. You can apply online. It's an easy process. Dom can do it. I can do it. Anybody can do it.
Starting point is 00:21:39 Pike Bull Hillbillies can do it. I shouldn't say that. No, Asian Pike Bull Hillbillies. He's you and your brother. So we appreciate it using Stockton Morgan and appreciate you coming in today, Dom. Noam's got a good radio voice. He can have a good voice. He does have a good voice.
Starting point is 00:21:52 He does have a good radio voice. He's jealous. You got to tell that story you just told about your wife Abby. Oh, well, you were talking about how we might get goofy in the second hour. And one of you said, like, someone only listens to the second hour because that's usually goofy. Well, at home, in my own home, my wife will be like, or like last week, for example, Monday or Tuesday, I think one of my first days hosting the show. Drew Palooza?
Starting point is 00:22:14 Yeah, so we're at home having dinner. I'm like, how to do? Talk way too much about sports. She's like, I want to hear the goofy stuff. Way too much sports on today's show. So I think there's a lot of people who, like, when we get a little bit off. Off topic. Well, Shannon, I was yesterday at the convention and the engineer convention.
Starting point is 00:22:30 One of them came up to me and said, I only listened to the second hour, because that's usually when you guys go off the rails. It's when we do our newsy-type stuff and things that have nothing to do with sports. But, you know, on a show like this, it's Friday, we can do it for two hours if we want to. You can do whatever you want to do. That's right. Easter weekend, Keenland today, so why not who we want to do? Sports just getting away.
Starting point is 00:22:50 When we just knock out some sports, did you see the portal news? What's the new portal news? It's a busy day for the portal. You know, it's only got about a week left, and I know everybody panics when Kentucky whiffs, as the Internet, like to say. But yesterday, in a matter of 10 minutes, Baby Pasia Stoyakovich, Andre Stoyakovich went into the portal. And then P.J. Hagerty from Memphis, whose third leading score in the entire country went in right after him. So those were two huge fish to jump in yesterday right about the same time. Any school that has already overpaid and ran out of money, I think they're going to be regretting.
Starting point is 00:23:24 As the portal winds down here. And it could play into Pope's favor. Heck, yeah. They've got some money kind of when they've been chasing a couple shooters. Maybe they can go after one of these two guys. I want baby Paysia real bad. I want him the first time around. Heck, we've recruited him two different sessions.
Starting point is 00:23:37 Cal Perry recruited him. And then he went to Stanford. At the same time, Pope was recruiting him to BYU, Pope and Figer. And then he transferred to Cal last year. And once Pope was at Kentucky last year, he tried to get him before he went to Cal. So maybe third time's a charm. But I want him bad. He's good.
Starting point is 00:23:53 Former McDonald's All-American, average 18. points. I loved his dad with the Kings. He doesn't have, doesn't shoot quite the same percentage as Pesia, but just the idea of having Pesia sitting courtside and Rufferina. I hope Kentucky reaches out and can pull it off this time. Will you be surprised
Starting point is 00:24:09 if another person is added to the roster and it is a European player, a foreign player? No. I won't either. There was a name floating around yesterday. His name's Dame. We could have Dame time. Someone put out a graphic. It wasn't him. It was just like a, I don't know, some kind of
Starting point is 00:24:23 for an account. I don't even know who runs it. I don't know if it's a news outlet or what, but it said he's considering Kentucky College. And that's not exactly what we go by here, but whatever. If he wants to come to Kentucky College, he can come and call it whatever he wants. Maybe it was Kentucky Wesleyan College. They just forgot the Wesleyan. Oh, I don't know. This guy's a potential lottery pick. So, so, I think he was talking about UK, but we haven't heard it called Kentucky College very much. 859-2802-287. We've got some lines open. We'll get to you today on the Clark's Publishan phone number. Who's our first caller, Shannon? Nico. Nico. Go ahead, Nico.
Starting point is 00:24:59 Hey, it's Nico from North Carolina. I'm a little bit nervous. Long time, listener's first time caller. Awesome. Appreciate it. I just want to ask if you think, I'm going to ask if you think Cal could have done what he did this year with Kentucky's recruits that we had this year. Okay, we'll answer your question, but hang on, Nico. Are you calling from class? I'm sorry? Are you in class right now? Yes.
Starting point is 00:25:24 What class are you in right now? Oh, you hung up. Oh, you hung up? You're busted him out. Yeah, we're going to keep a secret. I was curious. You could hear the teacher in the background. You can tell you it was in a classroom setting.
Starting point is 00:25:36 Yeah. We won't tell anyone, Nico. I know I wasn't going to tell on him. I just wanted to find out where he was and whose class he was in and he hung up on us. Couldn't give too much information that he'd get caught. I suspect. Keep laying low. Nico's probably not his real name now, I'm downing everything he had to just said.
Starting point is 00:25:50 So his question was, what do you think Cal would have done with Pope's players that he had this year the UK team. Not much. Well, I agree with Shannon. Brandon Garrison would have played the four with Amari at the five, and then Andrew Carr at the three, and then O.A. would have been at the two. He would have crowded the paint as much as possible instead of spacing it out. It would not have been a good group for Cal.
Starting point is 00:26:14 Cal had the team he needed, even though they got off to a slow start in the SEC. He needs those athletic driver guys. He had the pieces he needed, even though it didn't work out that grade for him. I do not think he would have done well with what POPHed. I suspect. Kobe Braille would have missed one three and wouldn't have played again for two weeks. I get ready to say that. He would be the Jamal Baker guy.
Starting point is 00:26:35 You miss one shot, Johnny Juzang. We'd pull you out of the game. He wouldn't have played Travis Perry. He wouldn't have played Trent Noah. Probably wouldn't have played Colin. He didn't even call Trent Noah at high school. That's true. Probably wouldn't have played Colin much.
Starting point is 00:26:47 So at least he wouldn't probably play to Ansley. He'd gone with those six guys, but he would have pulled Kobe as soon as he missed a shot. He would have been big as possible. He'd have Kobe sitting in a corner, standing in a corner, like Kellyn Grady was talking about, and if you missed a shot, you got pulled out. Since the caller brought it up, Cald put out a video yesterday about his roster. I don't know if there's ever been a time Cala Perry has brought back as many players
Starting point is 00:27:07 retained him from the past year of the end this year. He's stacked up, but I don't know what Carter Knox will do. I don't think he was included, but, you know, DJ's back. Billy Richmond will be a big role. He got a couple portal editions. Those will be new pieces. Got a couple five-star freshmen, but I know people were wondering if Cal was ever going to do anything because it's been quiet in the portal season. He did put out something about
Starting point is 00:27:28 their roster and his excitement. Shannon, what do you think? What do you think Cali would have done with this roster? Like I said, not much. I mean, that would be a completely different style that he would have to play with those guys. And I don't think Calipari is that greater to adapting. I mean, he's used to guys that were super athletic. I don't think that it would have gone well at all with that roster last year with Calipari coaching. Like you said, he would have gotten that rotation down to six guys, and the rest of the guys wouldn't even played. He has two of the best freshman guards coming in. There's a chance he read and robs them with DJ again.
Starting point is 00:28:01 Because they have another crowded back court or ball-dominate guys who can't really shoot. I'm wondering if he's going to have another read-rob scenario down there. I didn't know that. That's your John Caliperi update. Well, DJ Ragnar becomes a rare third-year scholarship player under Cal. There haven't been many. A five-star McDonald's All-American third year. I can't think of any that he had to do that.
Starting point is 00:28:23 Well, was Alex? Alex Poitriss or? Yeah, Alex had an injury. Give him a little bit of... Willie, Willie stayed for three years. He wasn't a McDonald's All-American. Derek Willis, Dominique, but they weren't McDonald's All-American. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:35 All right, well, take our break. Come back. Go to the phone lines. 859-2-8027. Goodbye. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Starting point is 00:28:48 Here's Matt Jones. All right, welcome back. Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan, Drew and Shannon. Apparently, Rick Roby was married. Okay. We played for Kentucky. And I knew this when he forgot.
Starting point is 00:28:58 He's from Madisonville, Kentucky, not Frank Ramsey. Gary Gamble was on Rupp's Runtz from Erlington. He was pregnant. He was pregnant. He was pregnant. He was married. And he still played for Kentucky. His wife, Joanne, was pregnant with a guy.
Starting point is 00:29:15 He ended up playing with me at Kentucky Wesleyan baseball, Chris Gamble. How about that? Well, I'm familiar with Gary Gamble. I didn't consider him of, married players. I'm glad you had the answers. That's why I brought the question up. I knew someone would have the knowledge of this. I should have known that Oscar, well, we climb Oscar. I was Chet Lemon. He was Oscar Gamble was his dad was married. Okay, here's a good question on the aviation glass text machine. What would Pope have done with Cal's players?
Starting point is 00:29:41 Oh boy. Well, they weren't great shooters. So Pope's five out take 33's a game. He would have had to call an Omaha on that one and go to a different look. That's why like I said, It was just, they both had the rosters they need. That's why they built him that way. Pope probably would have made it work with drivers, but he loves the three ball and to kick it out. I mean, I know DJ shot it well in Rupp, but other than that, he was not a good shooter for Arkansas last season.
Starting point is 00:30:09 And I don't think Big Z or A-Doo could have done the five spot that he wanted, like Elmari ended up doing. Well, Big Z probably would have gotten more minutes. He would have got more minutes. He would have been the guy that would have flourished, I think, in Pope's system. Yeah, but Cal does the athlete you and Pope's more of, give me some shooters. There's also an avidatex machine.
Starting point is 00:30:29 Otega O'A would have probably come off the bench for Cal if Cal had this roster because Cal would have promised starting spots to Robinson, Butler, Carr, Garrison, and Williams. So you'd have Brea and Otega coming off the bench. That may be true, I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. It was hard to not play O'A after we saw what he became, but, you know, maybe that was more of Pope developing in his system. We'll never know. I know the excitement wouldn't have been near what it was if Cal were still here.
Starting point is 00:30:56 Our friend Pat says Dan Issel was married during when he played. What all these answers? So I think it was definitely more prevalent back in the day. It doesn't happen these days, not basketball anyway. No, it would be unique for Colin. He's part of the, like half the team got engaged last season, but the other guys were seniors to move on, Carr. Was there another one?
Starting point is 00:31:14 Maybe not another one, but yeah. Yeah, those two guys got engaged in New York. Yeah, like the same day, if I'm not mistaken. Like it was. All right, let's go to the phone lines. 559-2-80-2-287. Who we got, Shannon? Caden.
Starting point is 00:31:25 Caden. Go ahead, Caden. Hey, so I got a question about Nate A-Mint. I know he was supposed to commit before the McDonald's All-American Games, and he moved his commitment. So what do you guys think about him, and where do you think he's going to go?
Starting point is 00:31:44 Appreciate it, Caden. You know, there was a report yesterday that, like, Tennessee may be the leader now, and for Nate A-Ment, that Rick Barnes is pulling a magic trick and somehow getting him to go to Tennessee. What are you hearing? What an interesting recruitment.
Starting point is 00:31:55 I mean, he had that fan stake where people were donating money. Louisville thought they had him. Kentucky was in the mix for a while. Kentucky's moved on from that, moved on a long time ago. Arkansas was in a good position for a little bit. I can't remember a recruitment that has changed leaders so much. It's just been dragging on and on. I think my guy's really looking for a good paycheck,
Starting point is 00:32:14 because that seems to be what's driving his recruitment, especially doing the fan stake thing. There were crystal ball picks yesterday for Tennessee. Maybe Rick Barnes gets him. I don't know why. as someone of his caliber, five-star, we want to go to Rick Barnes. That's not something he's really done much with. I thought Rick Barnes was going to retire.
Starting point is 00:32:30 You know, that was a story during March Madness, that maybe this was going to be his last run, but apparently he's still hanging in there. Barnes was spotted at the Middlesbrough Cracker Barrel earlier this week recruiting Elijah Freeman, so he's still out there grinding. I was going to bring that up. But, Nate, I mean... Pictures surfaced of him in the Middlesboro Cracker Barrel.
Starting point is 00:32:45 Yeah. On Amen, I mean, I would have liked to have had him because I think Pope needs a good five-star if he'd committed weeks ago, but it's kind of been of a circus recruitment. Well, I think there was a moment where Kentucky thought they were in pretty good shape with him. Yeah, they had one of the biggest offers is reported. Yeah. But maybe he's getting more from other people.
Starting point is 00:33:02 I mean, Louisville talked so much trash like they were going to get him. And now, heck, I don't even know if he's considering any of those schools anymore. It's how Duke has been mentioned, Tennessee. Heck, it might be Kansas by tomorrow. Who knows? He feels like a lot of schools has led at different points in his recruitment. Well, and we've talked about, you know, schools are now casting a wide net, and they make their offer
Starting point is 00:33:22 and then now players are like negotiating against each other against these other schools trying a lot of them not necessarily recruiting wanting to go to a school they're just going for who's going to pay them the most money free agency it's what it all comes down to so they get this settled with the house settlement who's next Shannon
Starting point is 00:33:38 let's go to Jimmy Jimmy go ahead Jimmy hey guys Jimmy here I got a couple things first one is for Drew I think he can help me with this one so I'm trying to to teach Little Jimmy all about Kentucky basketball, obviously. And I'm looking for Lazy Tuesday.
Starting point is 00:33:59 It's been wiped from the Internet. Oh, man. Was that Daniel Salsman, if I'm not mistaken? The song? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah. That was one of the original viral videos in Big Blue Nation. That's a shame it's been wiped from the Internet.
Starting point is 00:34:13 You've given me a homework assignment. I'll have to dig that up. That was a big part of early days. PSR, we shared that one. Yeah, all of Big Blanche. It's just dying to see it. Tom, leach, leach, leach. Is that it right? And then how he does?
Starting point is 00:34:26 That's right. Okay, I'll go looking for it. Okay, and then second update on the cane's goose. So the original goose was removed, and yesterday little Jimmy saw a goose back again. So I got one question for Ryan. So if a goose eats chicken, is that cannibalism or just foul? I see what you did there. appreciate that.
Starting point is 00:34:54 Thanks for the phone call. I don't know what I think he's talking about. What goose is he talking about? Don't you remember when we were in Milwaukee? We had that story about the guy that beat up a goose in the parking lot with a pillow. Yes? Well, that's what he's talking about. The goose is back.
Starting point is 00:35:06 The goose is back. Okay. There's another goose. I got it. It was a good joke. Did you get the joke? Because it was foul. There you go.
Starting point is 00:35:15 Is he eat chicken or is it foul? There you go. I've got a fine, lazy Tuesday, though. It's Shannon that's been wiped off the internet. Who's next, Shannon? Steph. Steph, go ahead, Steph. Hey, guys.
Starting point is 00:35:26 Hey, Steph. Sorry, I've been trying to catch up listening to the show, and Drew, you did an awesome job. Thank you, Steph. I appreciate you listening and saying that. Yeah, I got my cast off. It's going to take another six weeks to heal, fully heal, and I got to go back and see the doctor in five weeks. Well, you got to get back on the court again. The team needs you.
Starting point is 00:35:57 Yeah, well, we're done with basketball, but softball's coming up. Okay, yeah, get back on the diamond and softball night. Well, good luck, Steph. We hope to see you again here at KS Bar again this summer. Yep, go catch. All right, bye, Steph. And tighten up, Steph. Oh, she's a Titan fan also?
Starting point is 00:36:12 She's a Titan fan. She goes through the misery with me. 859-280-2-287. Did you happen to see the story about Michael Jordan's Ferrari? I kind of caught the headline that I don't know the details Can you tell me about it? I remember this was a big deal in the 90s
Starting point is 00:36:26 Jordan had this unbelievably fancy Ferrari like it was a big news story that they made this Ferrari especially for him It was like Chicago Bulls Red And he drove it to the games For like a two or three Maybe more than that
Starting point is 00:36:40 He'd drive this Ferrari to Chicago To go to the games Well he ended up selling it His license plate I think said Like I AMJ or something And the guy who bought it. He had license plate said, I'm not MJ, but he could have him to drive it around Boston,
Starting point is 00:36:54 I mean, Chicago, and people thought it was Michael Jordan driving this around. Well, he ended up selling it at an auction, and then it disappeared. Like, nobody could find it. Like, for like 25 years, and nobody knew what happened was Ferrari. And I guess it just surfaced, like this week, it came out of
Starting point is 00:37:10 the hiding, the dude that owned it, had died, I guess, and so the family finally released it, and they're going to auction it again. But this it's been like one of the big stories, like, Where's Jimmy Hoffa? Where's Michael Jordan's Ferrari? Has it been chilling in someone's garage for several years?
Starting point is 00:37:26 Well, that'll probably go for a high amount of auction. Oh, my goodness, yes. Yeah. With the story around it. With the story around it, yeah. I'm more impressed by the guy that got it, got an, I'm not MJ license. I am not an MJ. I am not MJ.
Starting point is 00:37:38 Maybe Michael about it. He's got plenty of money. Can you buy it back? I believe Michael's got enough money. He could probably buy it back if he wants to buy it back. But I remember it was a big story there for a while, like whatever happened to this car. Well, when he got the car, it was a big deal back then. Do you have any cars you wonder about where they are?
Starting point is 00:37:52 You've had a lot of former vehicles. That's very true. I had a gold 1980 Ford Mustang with no air conditioning. And I had the lamb covered seats. Oh, my goodness. I can picture you. I had the Pioneer stereo, Shannon, 8-track and cassette, 8-track and cassette stereo, Pioneer speakers.
Starting point is 00:38:14 Oh, I put a sunroof in it. That was a bad car. Hair blowing in the wind. Oh, yes. Def Leopard coming out of those. Oh, my goodness. It was awesome. Where do you think it is right now? Junkyard, somewhere in Otwell, Indiana.
Starting point is 00:38:27 All right, we'll take our break. Come back, go back to the phone lines. 859-2-2-287. Got a couple lines open here on the Clark's Pubbyshop phone line, and we've got your AVision Glass tech machines rolling today. So give us a call. We'll be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Starting point is 00:39:43 I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, We get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on Earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Starting point is 00:40:09 Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Keir Gaines, is we have really. Real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free iHeartRadio app.

And on my podcast, The Cliverts show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What?
Starting point is 00:40:49 Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, Wreck, my mama want you to weigh better. What? Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Cliverts show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast, Point Game is about defying the odds.
Starting point is 00:41:15 Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
Starting point is 00:41:37 because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too Steve Nash will get that
Starting point is 00:41:54 thing, that man, hell get the flying, he running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball, like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the Iheart Radio
Starting point is 00:42:10 app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Oh, yeah. Oh, this takes me back in my gold Mustang. windows down because there's no air conditioning, got a little deaf leopard jamming on the Pioneer stereo system. Can't you feel it? You're proud of that Pioneer sound system. Well, it was top notch back then in the mid-80s.
Starting point is 00:42:33 My buddy Rick says Michael Jordan actually got a ticket on I-75 in that Ferrari. I don't know what he was doing down here, but I don't doubt it. Something like that. Might have been speeding a little bit? Yeah. Have you ever had any run-ins with any expensive vehicles? Oh, you're funny. You're really funny.
Starting point is 00:42:49 Any stories you want to tell us? not hit a Ferrari. I have not. Have you hit like a... Mazurati? Cadillac? I may have hit a Maserati. Yeah. On Lees Town Road.
Starting point is 00:43:00 And I rear-ended it, and the guy got out of the car and looked to me in the eye and said, you know this is a $130,000 car, right? If I were anywhere near a luxury car like that, I would be driving as slow as possible. You could fit 10 cars between mine and them in front of me. Of all the cars to hit, too. I know. You hit the one that's 130 grand. You couldn't hit the one that was already banged up.
Starting point is 00:43:20 And what's it doing on Lees Town Road? Well, probably just driving around like cars are supposed to do. What are you doing hitting it on Lees Town Road? I didn't know it was a Mazzarotti. I remember after I hit it. I didn't know it was a Mazzarotti, obviously, when I hit it and I look up, and as you see the name on the back of the trunk, Maserati, I'm like, oh, this is not going to be good. The bumper had replaced the bumper.
Starting point is 00:43:41 My insurance agent is, we happy to tell you, was $30,000. Just the bumper that I had to replace. So you didn't see, like, this very expensive car in front of you? No. Not at all. What are you looking at? Buckle up, put your phone down, Ryan. Well, there was like road constructions when they were redoing Leastown Road,
Starting point is 00:43:56 and there was this guy walking right along the side of the road, and I took my eyes off to look at him, and bam, hit the Mazurati in front of me. Wow, I can't even imagine the panic in that happening. That's great memory for me. I appreciate that. Apparently, Kansas transfer, Rylan Griffin has announced he's going to visit Kentucky this week. Yeah, that just popped as the show started. As we all know, Kansas' season did not go well when they had a really good roster,
Starting point is 00:44:19 but he's a great shooter, 40% shooter from three. Shoots a well off to pick and roll. He'd be a good addition if that's what they end up with. Yeah, so whether they get Baby Stojik or Rylan or Rilin-Oyakovich. Soilovic, you get one of those two guys, you've got to feel pretty good about that hole that you're trying to feel to be a shooter. Yeah, like I said, he shot it really well.
Starting point is 00:44:41 I mean, that's a lights-out, knock-down shooter. His career average is great, so that's kind of a piece they're looking for. Man, things just did not go well Kansas this year. No, he started most of the season for them. I mean, before the year, where were they ranked? Number one. They were number one, right? They were number one.
Starting point is 00:44:56 They were great roster. Looking at, changing from Griffin, the 100th century was a blessing in disguise. He just seems to take down wherever he goes. I know we wanted him when he was. Wanted him bad. Yeah, the night Cal got chicken tenders at Jeff Ruby's on his visit, and we were disappointed. He went to Kansas, but that turned out to be a good thing. Somebody found my gold Mustang.
Starting point is 00:45:17 Look at that. Oh, my goodness. Is that not a chick-man? magnet or what the ladies in otwell indiana were lining up to get in that car oh my goodness i can't imagine what that thing smells like i'll tweet it out shannon you won't believe no care yeah i got to see it i'll see this all right who's next we got to get you that back even for a day just let you drive around i would love it tom my car tom you're next tom go ahead hey guys thanks for taking my call uh getting me through to the weekend um the other day ryan
Starting point is 00:45:46 Billy and Shannon were talking about your prowess on the baseball field and throwing out some stats. And Billy said they're almost like Tony Gwynish numbers. So later that day, which I thought was a pretty big statement. So you got to be Billy some props for that. But yesterday, I interviewed John Smoltz popped up. I know Shannon and Drew are a Braves fan. And he said that one of the greatest seats in Major League Baseball. baseball ever was that
Starting point is 00:46:18 Smoltz, Maddox, Glamvin, and Pedro Martinez faced Tony Gwyn like 330 times and only struck him out three times. Yeah, that's amazing. He said that. Yeah, Glavin struck him out twice. It said that Pedro and Maddox never struck him out, and Smolts, he said he did once.
Starting point is 00:46:39 So that's pretty awesome. Yeah, I appreciate the phonecle. I've seen those stats Tony Gwyn is amazing. He'll strike out the entire season like 15 times. And the dude struck out 15 times of his first 18-knap batch this year, something like that. Yeah, I saw that pop up just a few weeks ago. And, I mean, that's going to get some legend pitchers there. Right.
Starting point is 00:46:57 Some of the best they ever play during that era. And he was just one of those guys. He just got the bat on the ball. He was not going to let you strike him out. So do you feel like you had some Tony Gwyn and you looking at those numbers? Absolutely not. No, not at all. That didn't close.
Starting point is 00:47:12 Apparently Michael Jordan was in town for the Kentucky Bluegrass Games. He was the Grand Marshal. Okay. So like it is, you think he drove that Ferrari from Chicago down to Lexington? Grand Marshal and just drove it back? Yeah. I found the Tony Gwynne tweet you brought up. He had 15 strikeouts in 577 plate appearances,
Starting point is 00:47:31 and this year, Rafael Dever struck out 15 times in 23 plate. Dude, that's unbelievable. 23 plate appearances he struck out 15 times. Gwen goes a whole season and only struck out 50 times. Almost 600 plate appearances and struck out 15 times. Shannon, the dude could have struck him out in his Bellarmine days. Oh, please. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:49 That would have been like the slowest pitch you'd ever seen. Maybe that would have thrown them off a little bit. This is on the aviation glass text machine. Also, my mom hit a Maserati. See, I'm not the only dufus in town, I guess, that hits Maserati's. Let's get another phone call before we get out of here, Shannon. Who we got? Stub.
Starting point is 00:48:03 Stub. Stub. Hey, guys. I had a quick question for you. You guys are all from different counties. I'll give Ryan Fayette because he's not from Kentucky. If you're going to eat at one place in your county between 10 and 25 bucks, Bullet Hopkins, and I've got Ryan Fayette, where would that be?
Starting point is 00:48:22 That's a great question. Appreciate that. Drew, you go first. Hopkins County. You know, people ask me a lot these days where to eat in Madisonville, but I've been removed 20 years now, and there's a lot of new places that haven't tried, so I'm bad at this game. I'll say Farrell's.
Starting point is 00:48:37 It's a little diner with burgers. That's what I miss a lot. You can definitely eat there for between $10 and $15. Or Taco Johns. I love Taco Johns also. Shout out Taco Johns. but I'm out of touch with the Madisonville restaurant scene. When I was there, it was mostly Mexican restaurants.
Starting point is 00:48:51 Maybe go to El Bracero. I'm sure it's still there. But I'll say Farrell's is my final answer. Shana, what about you for Bullitt County? We have so many just like chains, like every fast food place you can imagine. So I'm going to eliminate all of them. I'm not going to say like El Nopal or anything like that. But we have a really cool Italian restaurant, like right in the middle of Mount Washington,
Starting point is 00:49:11 called, I think it's like a Moray-Meo, Italian. And I went there for the first time, couple of weeks ago, really, really good. So I'm going to, I guess I'll say that one, because I can't think of any others. The rest of them are just chains. Well, if you're giving me Fayette County, the one restaurant I would definitely recommend above all others is a place called KS Bar and Grill. The food there is really, really good.
Starting point is 00:49:32 And especially if you're going to the Tyler Childers concert, my folks from Taylor Mill and Cleveland are going to the Tyler Childers concert. Come here first. We're having a Tyler Childers like pre-concert party here. It's going to be playing the music on the bootbox. I'll probably be the one in charge of the music. I bet you are the one in charge of the music. And the forecast has gotten a little better.
Starting point is 00:49:49 Early in the week, a little touch and go. You know, I'm going to knock on everything here, but it's opening up for us a little bit. I think so. I think so. You can park here in our parking lot, but you've got to eat at one of our local establishments here. Our friends, jalapinos or Sumo or Tilted Kild are one of us right here. You want to park in the parking lot. Don't park in that area in the Dairy Queen parking lot.
Starting point is 00:50:05 They don't like that very much. Don't get to go it over there. Don't do it. But we'll have plenty of partying going on here at KS Bar and Grill. I've got a bunch of family in for Easter, and we're going to come eat dinner here. and then most of them are going home, then me and Abby and her brother are going over with the concerts. We're going to have a big group in here pre-game.
Starting point is 00:50:21 Maybe Tyler will even come in. Probably not. I'm sure he's a little busy, but he's welcome to come on in if he wants to. But it's going to be a good time. I'm really looking forward to it. I didn't get to go to Stapleton a couple of years ago. So this will be my first Kroger Field concert.
Starting point is 00:50:31 I'm really looking forward to seeing how it looks in there. And apparently, you know, it's a Kroger Field. So there are seats everywhere. But there are some decent seats available, I think, still, if you're running and trying to go. So it's out there. Winona, I think, is the opening act. Wine owner?
Starting point is 00:50:45 You got a favorite wine owner song? I've been playing Tyler for two weeks getting getting ready for. They're all stuck in my head. Well, maybe Shannon will play some of that. If you can get away from playing Gene Mitchell for us in the next hour. And for our caller, we found lazy Tuesday. Shannon's definitely going to play Lazy Tuesday. We found it.
Starting point is 00:51:01 Corey Price found it. All right, we'll take our break. Come back hour number two, and we come back here on Kentucky Sports Radio.
